It didn't make any sense to me why Walmart would get involved here. Yeah I think that probably was a little bit of a shock to too many people but the thought about it kind of makes little sense. Chris. So just think about what Doug Macmillan. The CEO at Walmart has been doing in their e commerce business trying to have so much success even before the covid nineteen lockdowns and having that success partnering with for example, the likes to shop of five announced earlier on me well, more has a very large ecommerce presence when the larger sites out there they're ECOMMERCE businesses going gangbusters. Right now they generate a lot of profits and cash as Microsoft and so I think when Walmart is looking to expand their audience, maybe continue to compete with Amazon when it comes to third party sellers, they have four, hundred, fifty, thousand third party sellers, Walmart does that's a fraction of what Amazon does. So again, to expand its reach reach a different audience, take talk may not be so much of a stretch depending on what price they can get. Now there's there's big numbers being tossed out of thirty billion or so but that's I'd be surprised if tick tick talking get that but I see as a way for Walmart to really expand into different audience expanded advertising business and build out ECOMMERCE platform in a way that it hasn't it would be very tough to do on its own. Jason if you're a Microsoft shareholder, are you would you rather see Microsoft go all in on this or do you like the idea that a company like Walmart is helping to spread the risk around because they're going to pay for part of it? I mean mean I would rather see Microsoft just take this on its own I. Mean I think the bigger risk probably. is on Walmart side just given what the business does given given the history of the business kind of how it. Built itself up to this point and physical retail. So You know personally, I'd rather see one parties opposed to many but. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it it, it does seem like an odd combo. TIKTOK perspective I mean you you have to figure they tiktok or trying to figure out how to be more than just an ad play right? What we know about the business today, it's very little. We know they have a big network of people that use the platform. I mean, no, they don't make a heck of a lot of money and it's essentially just an advertising play and and that's a very tough space with plenty of incumbents that do really well already. But if you're not facebook or Alphabet, then you're just part of this sort of collective of mediocre businesses that are taking a little bit of what is a very. Big Hi there I mean twitter it's just kind of mediocre business snap. It's just kind of mediocre business in tick, Tock faces that same fate if they don't figure out how to become more than just an ad plays so so you've seen facebook with instagram trying to get into social commerce twitter's made some here and there with that with that as well as snap. Eligible that Walmart would view tiktok from that perspective and tiktok would be looking to do that. It's just going to be a very. Interesting situation if it is a consortium that ends up acquiring Tiktok, because you have more people trying to determine more companies trying to determine the fate, which typically can be a more difficult thing and a lot of speculation of Walmart might do with this but you gotta like the fact that Doug Macmillan is keeping his cards pretty close to the vest he's not. Really saying they're GONNA use it. He's not saying whether it's going to be part of the Walmart plus service that they're going to roll out later this year. Yeah. Not Surprising just the quality of management that Doug has been able to showcase in just the type of leader he is and will be very interesting on the pricing perspective how much they WANNA pay If the deal does go through there aren't very many platforms out there. I think they're reportedly eight, hundred, million users of TIKTOK. Imagine they're very active there they probably skew young. There aren't many platforms out there when you look at the acid base, this is one that that I think Walmart is one of the larger companies out there in the world is saying listen this is a place where we can maybe have some immediate impact in there and to to continue our our transformation too much more of a larger of a digital company.

"Big story. This week was a proposed ban. On the insanely popular Chinese APP Tiktok. TIKTOK. It's the APP where young people congregate to watch short funny videos of people, lip synching, and doing silly things. President trump says it's a national security risk because all the information, the data that's mine on Tiktok go straight to the Chinese government. But you know the the data that's mind on facebook go straight to the American government. It's that sort of thing. So for another follow up on the story decided, you know who I should speak to some kids. I spoke to a man named Ben Finer who's twenty seven years old his reaction. Is this really what you're worried about president trump kids making videos online aren't there any more pressing issues. Now. He likes Tiktok because the algorithm is different than on facebook and instagram in. If you do something there, lots of people can see it. It's not this weird algorithm that only some people will see your stuff. He told me he posted a video in one day got a hundred thousand views. That's a lot of us. Talk to other kids who just said it's just this time. Suck you. Once you turn it on from your quarantine, you are just entertained. There is so much fun stuff. This is a time when you can't go out and see your friends and but you can see him on Tiktok. What will people do if Tiktok is indeed bannon goes away which I don't think will ever happen. Well. They told me. They'll just moved to an APP called trailer, which is a tick tock clone. We'll have to see if take a good look at that instagram, which is owned by facebook also came out with their tiktok. Tock clone as well. This week it's called wheels and it lets you make funny short video set to music.

"Yeah I mean just over the past few hours on Friday morning all of this was breaking and. I think that. From the administration's point of view, all they care about is talk. which is hugely popular in the United States, and like you said, like all social media APPs collects a lot of data about you is not in the hands of a Chinese company I. Might I don't know this for sure my suspicion is they just don't like that it's that popular and in the hands of anonymous company and be a way to change that right to go. No go ahead. I I'll go a little further and his. Theory but know tick tock users made it made a splash at that at that was at Tulsa rally. That up yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Don't. Be some revenge things happening there. Maybe I'll think that has much to do with it. It might have something to do with the president being even more eager to do this. But there are plenty of policy reasons to do this from people who don't really care about that one way or the other, but don't like China. Having that. So I, I don't think it's wrong to bring it up certainly I. think it's overplayed how much of an effect that has on this if that had never happened I think it's still I think they would still be after. I. I worry about. Give Mrs, this is treading a political ground here a little bit but I I worry about the vilification of. A Asia and China in general we we we starting to get into some some dangerous territory here. Where is like just because something's from China's bad and I really have never liked that Dr Process my it's the most of us Shaina as long as it's not popular that seems to be the evidence right one plus which is a Chinese company can sell stuff all day long. "So when you say it's curious as to be taken are you are you saying basically that there could be some weakness and Tech Tech? That apple the strengthened apple is now masking. Well. No, it's not so much that. If, there is such thing as late and potential. You have potential earnings exploitation of potential after earnings you beat. Let's say as apple did as facebook dead, and now what meaning are you getting median follow through on Monday or Tuesday do you get the cues? We've expended a lot of energy. We've had fundamental results and still we set our high for the Nasdaq as far back as the thirteenth July now we're August one. It just seems curious that it couldn't make a new high all of the good news today. vk The one thing that we didn't touch on in regards to the stock split is the impact it would have on the Dow versus the S. and P. Five hundred, you split Apple, and of course, price weighted index like the Dow your then diluting the impact of apple you're only taking quarter right of the games that would be a positive for the Dow and the S&P five hundred. So that divergence we could actually see that grow as time goes on because of the split. Yeah I mean I think that's interesting. This split is going to be very important and I loved how Carter described as latent potential. There's been times in my life that I've been described as having I hope by. Hope. Exactly. Right. But I do think as crazy as it is it shocked me every time. But what a stock splits people seem to like it it goes up. There's nothing different about the company nothing's changed whatsoever except the price of the stock is lower human beings liked to buy a full share, a hundred shares they want to own one apple the. So it's crazy thing but given the fact that this market has a propensity to be retail. Driven actually think going into the end of the month that's going to be a catalyst for this stock. But as you say, you're talking about four or five companies that are I, do think they could be masking some weakness makes me a bit concerned. We saw the bond market. This morning was yields were a little bit higher that would not be good for this trait. So there's there's things on the horizon that I'm cautious about. Four like this I get extra cautious. But in terms of apple I think just going into that split it's it's you're going to have retail traders pile into it, hold on vk and we need bond yields or a little bit higher. By how much I think I? I must have missed. You must have missed it. So here's what was carries about it right is that when the stock markets were falling this morning, right you actually saw yields tech higher. And so if we're talking about negative real rates and they want to get too wonky but that's driving a lot of this market. That's the drumbeat. If that starts to reverse, then it's GonNa be then big tax going to be a problem. Bond when you're not worried, you stick with the tech trade. Absolutely I mean, I've been bullish was quite some time and listen there were some headwinds there. We've got the whole political risk we've got facebook has their own issues. We've got antitrust and things of that nature but I think a lot of the issue was leading up to see whether or not earnings justified the moves. Now we have clarity for me it's onto the next thing. And yes, we have seen a bit of decoupling from these particular names from the overall market. That's that's very healthy. You want to see some stock picking when it's a high tide raising all of the boats indiscriminately. That's what really starts to give me pause but the fiscal economic and political risk are still there i. still think there's a lot of uncertainty in terms of the overall economic picture but we do now have is very distinct succinct and clear data around the the market leaders and I think that bodes well for us going forward by the way we mentioned retail Traders Apple Robin Track tweeted that apple was the number one. And number one in terms of the top increases in the number of users holding a stock today on the Robin Hood. APP. So we did see that chase to apple today. Meantime we're following a developing story. TIKTOK Microsoft is in talks to buy the popular video sharing APP. Let's get to Julia. Boston's got the details Julia. That's right. Melissa Microsoft is in talks to acquire tiktok from his parent company Chinese bite dance this according to a source close to the situation, and this comes after President Trump said earlier today that he's considering banning Tiktok or considering taking other options around Tiktok, which could include forcing by dance to sell that company now, Tiktok, which is reportedly valued at about fifty billion dollars. That's about half of bite dances. Valuation has raised concerns with authorities about Chinese influence censorship, but also questions around the user privacy take talk telling us. It's confident in the long term success of the platform saying in quote while we do not comment on rumors or speculation, we are confident the long term success of Tiktok. And that they're motivated by the passion of the hundreds of millions of users and that it's quote committed to protecting their privacy and safety Bush's Dan is just issuing a note thing Microsoft acquiring Tiktok makes his strategic sense saying would resolve TIKTOK security issues and also give Microsoft and crown jewel the consumer social media front at a time that facebook and Google are under massive regulatory scrutiny. But for Microsoft, it would be a meaningful move away from its focus on the enterprise space. We didn't get a no comment for Microsoft tobacco. It is notable Julia. Of course you know this that the Tuxedo is the US CEO formerly from Disney. Why is it? Raises the possibility that this division of this company by dance could actually be spun out into a separate company given that the appetite these days for social media companies. Look. That's definitely one of the options here I. Think it's really notable as you mentioned the hiring Kevin Mayor he was very senior at Disney. He Ran Disney's streaming service.

And you as Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo says Washington's also considering banning Chinese social media applications including Tiktok over national security concerns. pompey's says people should use TIKTOK if they wanted their private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party in fact, India has now blocked access to fifty nine Chinese earned smartphone applications, including tiktok for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting use a data like many other apps. TIKTOK collects. Collects user data including details about you, your likes and dislikes your smartphone, your context, your work and geolocation concerns about the apple I raised back in January, following complaints over child safety when it was discovered that tiktok exploits vulnerability loophole in Apple's copy and paste program, although researchers admit they're not sure exactly what the companies up to then the following month, a new security report warned that data cupboard under. Under clipboards on IPHONES IPADS was being seen and access by the APP now then information much spill your shopping list, but it could also be your bank account details, passwords word ever and the log show that tiktok reading this content whenever it's opened. Even if they contents been deleted again, no one knows why it's reading it just that it is security. Experts claim it seems to be all part of. Of a Greater Chinese Communist Party Stars Eli Program to simply gather as much data on people as possible. However the Beijing based company Bite dance which earns tiktok says it doesn't send any day to do the Chinese government, but then again. China's 2017 National Intelligence Law compels individuals and companies to assist the Chinese Communist government by providing access cooperation and or support for any and all intelligence gathering activities. Scientist in the United States of debunked the well-known rule of poor that one Dougie is equivalent to seven human years instead it report in the Journal cell. The team studied one hundred and four Labrador retrievers spanning from few weeks, puppies sixteen year old timers. Now based on the new formula an eight week old puppy is about the same age as a nine month old human baby, and the average twelve year lifespan of Labrador retrievers corresponds to the worldwide life expectancy of humans of seventy years. And you study shows that communities on facebook that distrust establishment health advice are more effective getting their message across the undecided individuals than doctors in government health agencies, the research by George Washington University in reported in the journal Nature. Vexes on facebook than those is saw benefits vaccination. There were nearly three times more. Eddie Vex communities on facebook compared to pro vaccination communities to minimum from Australia. Skeptics says this allows aspects communities to become highly entangled with undecided communities. All pro vaccination communities remain mostly peripheral save that. There's actually ultimately a lot fewer people who say anti vaccination. People are projects. That I ninety five percent of kids vaccinated Sharia Islamic people who support thanks than done and the as the Anti Vexes very loud, especially on areas like facebook speech research is tracked a lot of conversations like that. That's a concern to me, but it's also because they've been classes and talked to each other that I have a great influence, and I should do especially considering the lack of expertise and their numbers. Like numbers. But that unfortunately, people believe that the voice the squeaky wheel etcetera. Mom has the infants apparently. Yeah Yeah City. But also people listening to them, which is the the sad thing? We especially dealing with climate change denial. They make a lot of noise, and they demand equal time well, let's have equal time based on scientific plausibility based on what the scientists say based on that. Then for every ninety nine people who believe in climate change, we should have one person who disagrees with climate change because that would represent the true proportions based on a scientific level here going all of it did that quite well on the with the.
