"Once again, this is day 90. Judges four and 5, hired to give the disclaimer yesterday, but it is a violent book and it is all the things the judges do are not always great. They do fight for the people and they do make decisions that are their best judgment. And sometimes their best judgment, we would say, could be better. Ruth's story is going to continue as she and Naomi have gone back to Bethlehem. Her mother in law Naomi back to her mother in law's homeland. And here is Ruth and Naomi, destitute and hoping that the lord will care for them. But today, once again, starting with judges, chapter four, and chapter 5. The book of judges, chapter four. Deborah and Barak. And the sons of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the lord after Ehud died. And the lord sold them into the hand of jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in hazor, the commander of his army was Cicero, who dwelt then Hiroshi haku im. Then the sons of Israel cried to the lord for help for he had 900 chariots of iron, and they oppressed the sons of Israel cruelly for 20 years. Now, Deborah, Apophis, the wife of lapidot, was judging Israel at the time. She used to sit on the palm of Deborah between Rama and bethel in the hill country of ephraim, and the sons of Israel came up to her for judgment. She sent, and summoned Barack the son of abino ama from kadesh enough to leave and said to him. The lord, the God of Israel, commands you, go. Gather your men at mount tabor, taking 10,000 from the tribe of nafta Lee and the tribe of Zambian, and I will draw out cicera the general of jabin army to meet you by the river keyshawn with his chariots and his troops, and I will give him into your hand. The Rock said to her if you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go. And she said, I will surely go with you, nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory for the lord will sell cicera into the hand of a woman. Then Deborah arose, and went with Barack to kadesh. In Barack summoned zebulon enough to lead two kadesh and 10,000 men went up at his heels and Deborah went up with him.

"Kilometer size, that is like civilization will not have a good day. Right. That is a global catastrophe. So really anything bigger than about 50 meters across. We want to know their locations and trajectory future trajectories as far into the future as we can. And because anything above that size, as you say, you're taking out a city, bigger than that, you're taking out a continent. Or you're causing damage to a continent, and then even bigger than that, and you are causing there's an impact that is hitting the entire planet to some degree. What you may not get hit by the actual impact or the tsunami, you may very well have your crops fail because the skies are filled with smoke for 5 years. And this is where do you know where you're going to be in 2029 when a certain fascinatingly named object happens to pass near the planet? Home here. Watching the sky when it goes by. So sadly, where we are, we won't be able to see it when Apophis goes by in 2029, it's actually going to pass between us and your typical weather or communications satellite, up and synchronous orbit. And Australia and New Zealand have a really good view. So I'm thinking I may use this as an excuse to go down under if I can figure out the finances. Right. Give a few talks, watch an asteroid, fly past the earth. That would be kind of epic, wouldn't it be? Standing on a stage, giving a talk, and then everybody's stopping and watching this bright star fly across the sky. And then, yeah, that would be amazing. So you were starting to talk about various automated telescopes. There are networks of telescopes operating right now today that are tracking as many of these asteroids and comets as they can. Yeah, so for instance, if you've heard of any of a vast number of comet Atlas, comets, those are all getting found by the Atlas survey, which is run by the university of Arizona. There's neowise, which is using the wise telescope for a new purpose. And it's out there looking for cold things moving through this guy. All these different objects the Catalina sky survey. It's another university of Arizona project. Arizona is basically working very hard to keep us safe. But they have very crater. They know the consequences. That's a joke, people. So we have Catalina sky survey. We have all these different telescopes that are out there in a variety of different sizes, the zwicky transient facilities working out in California. And they are imaging regions of the sky that basically as much as they can, giving priority to the parts of the sky that are most likely to have asteroids and comets. So things near the disc of the galaxy are given priority. And they're looking for anything new that isn't already categorized and they are putting out alerts when new things are found. And coordinating through the minor planet center out in Boston, which is organized by the international astronomical union. And they're working to as quickly as they can refine the orbits that we have for these objects because we keep periodically finding things that when we get there initial orbit, we start by okay, we see it moving like this. Fit a circle to that, assume lots of error. And then figure out over time, what is within range of all that error. And as we get more and more observations that change in velocity across the sky that we see corresponds to our own motion and the asteroid's motion, and it gets to the point that only one orbit can fit the motion that we're seeing of that asteroid and the earth's orbit is well understood. And in the interim, though, between going from the approximating it with a circle to accurately well known orbit, occasionally we find things that look like they're going to hit the planet and these things are given a great deal of observational priority. I guess it's the best way to put it. Yeah, and actually there's one right now. And I forget the designation of it, but it was found on Valentine's Day. It's coming Valentine's Day. Oh, it's coming Valentine's Day. That's right. Yes. Yeah. In 2046. Let me pull up the information. Anyway. But this happens all the time, that astronomers find some object. They run their initial calculations and they go, uh oh. The future orbits of the asteroid, one of them crosses the earth. Or is within a certain error bar of crossing the earth. And then they go, uh oh, and then they call all the friends and say, could you double check my observations and keep tracking this asteroid so that we can all agree that this thing isn't going to be a danger. And this is what happened to Apophis. You are all familiar with Apophis because it was going to be making this close flyby in 2029. And then I think a few years later, we're going to come back around and had a chance. And now that chance has been dropped to zero, that enough observations have been made that we know for sure that this asteroid is not a threat to us in the foreseeable future. But it's amazing what we're capable of finding. So the current culprit in rising to the potentially dangerous asteroid list is 2023 DW. And on Valentine's Day, 2046, there is still in a one and I'm not finding the most accurate to the moment numbers, but as of last week, it was one in 607 chance of smacking us, which in the grand scheme of things is enough that we pay attention, it's 2046 that we have to worry, and we now know we can nudge these

"Flyby of earth, as you say, it's going to be coming within geostationary satellites. It should be visible with the unaided eye. You should be able to see across it'll kind of look like a satellite. You're going to see this giant tumbling rock. You're going to see something that's going to look like an like a satellite moving through the sky. But for very powerful earth based telescopes, this is going to be a wonderful opportunity. And so how does Osiris apex play a role in this I buy? It's going to be trying to so Apophis is going to fly by us in 2029. The mission is going to encounter Apophis in 2029. And it's going to be able to get those high resolution images that tell us what kind of a surface we're looking at. Is this something more like a co op that has a some rubbly surface, but mostly it looks like it's a solid ish object. Or are we looking at another rubble pile? And this radically changes the way we need to think about potential future deflection. If it turns out, every near earth object we look at is yet another rubble pile. Our ideas for deflecting it by, for instance, putting a rocket on an asteroid and pushing no, you're just going to push the rocket through the asteroid as we learn with Osiris Rex. Right. So getting an idea of the density of the solidity, the moment of inertia, all of these different physical parameters allows us to start to contemplate how do we actually deflect these things in the future. It was interesting with the dart mission how much of a change in the orbit of the asteroid actually happened. And when you sort of think about asteroids like Apophis, could we stop them? Could we solve something at the last minute? And what's going to be the best approach? Dart gave us a really good solid foundation. But being able to now take that knowledge and then compare it against another asteroid and another asteroid and keep doing this. I think the other thing that will be really interesting is when the path doesn't make its close flyby, will the tidal forces of getting that close to the earth. If it is a rubble pile, will it elongate will it start to start to change its shape, it would be interesting to see what happens. Things I hadn't thought of and now I need to run calculations on just to figure out well, I think the Roche limit of the earth is much, much closer, like a few tens of thousands of kilometers, but actually GPS satellites or the geostationary orbit is what? 50 ish thousand? I think what it is. 38,000 miles. I forget that I forget the actual geostationary orbit. But it's going to be very close to us. And it'll be interesting to see what happens to the asteroid as it passed. Very exciting. And just a great next use for Osiris Rex now Osiris apex. I love it. All right, so we talked about Osiris Rex and its future. I think that qualifies as an existing mission that is already in a tremendous amount of science. I think you have foiled my hopes to talk about completely upcoming missions. Let's try again. Give me another mission that you are excited about that is happening in the future. So we have Lucy has launched its on its way. It gets to Jupiter's L four in 2027. It gets to its L 5 and 2033. There's going to be an asteroid. We see in 2025. So basically we have a, if it's an odd year, awesome stuff happens in the future. Right. Now, why is Lucy going out to the Trojan regions of Jupiter? We just don't know what these outer objects are like. Are these entirely icy objects? We periodically see centaurs become active like comets become active. Are the Trojans basically the same where they went through some sort of a interaction they could suddenly flare out with activity. Are they rocky? Are they rubble piles? What's going on? We want to know. And so it's going to be able to explore multiple objects, and along the way, pick out an asteroid in the asteroid belt, and it's just amazing to see with all these different missions what kinds of chaos the solar system has created. We just keep finding moons of Jupiter and Saturn that are weirder and weirder and so this raises the question are these larger Trojans going to be more like Ganymede or more like cheery Geary? I want to know if we have more round things or more rubber duckies. And people don't know that and I love to bring up this fact that there are many objects in the Trojan belt as there are objects in the asteroid belt. These are busy places. Yeah. And so you're going to get this and by having all of these objects collected together, you're going to have this opportunity to fly past many different objects and take a really interesting sample of all of them. And as you say, in some cases, they could just be like main belt asteroids, but maybe they're like Kuiper belt objects. Maybe they're like captured comets that got snuffed out and held in Jupiter's gravity. And they've picked this variety of objects and they're part that I find really interesting as well. As they do more observations of these worlds, they keep discovering more moons of the objects, which then gives them more targets to go after. Interrupted 12 at this point. And when you find an object with a moon that moon allows you to get more accurate mass determination and figure out all sorts of other details you wouldn't be able to figure out. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. Now, but Lucy has had a bit of a problem with the solar panels. Yeah, they didn't quite want to lock into place. So they are deployed and I think it's fair to say that they are concerned but not panicked. Yeah, I don't think they're even concerned now. So originally like one locked into place. If you look at the solar panels, there are these giant discs and they unfold almost like an umbrella, but imagine a flat umbrella. And one of them unfolded perfectly. The other one unfolded, but didn't get all the way. And so then they tried pulling it back, putting it forward again, tried a couple of ideas. And in the end, they were able to sort of mess with the tension of the cable that pulls it out. And they were able to get to 90 7% or something. So very close. And based on that, they feel like it's got enough power to reach and handle its mission. The big problem with Jupiter is that it's so far away from the sun. Yes. Your solar panel is experienced. One 25th, the amount of energy that experience in Earth orbit. And so the Jupiter is the limit of where solar powered spacecraft can really flee to. And so they were worried that it wouldn't have enough power when it was actually at the out of the Trojan belt. But it looks like it's going to be fine. So at this point, it's not latched, but they're fine with it.

"Weekly facts based journey through the cosmos where we help you understand not only what we know, but how we know what we know. I'm prisoner king. I'm the publisher of universe today. I've been a space astronomy journalist for over 20 years with me. Is doctor Pamela gate, a senior scientist for the planetary science institute, and the director of Cosmo quest. Hey, Pam, how are you doing? I am doing well. It is, as we record this December 5th and by the time this will go out to our podcast listeners, there will have been an occultation of Mars and I am deeply hoping I am able to see it and because I am me, I fully expect to be clouded out, but yeah, I'm going to be clouded out. Yeah. But I'm excited. And also another flyby of Artemis going past the moon. To earth. That is a current pretty much right now. Right now. Pretty much. Yeah, exactly. As we're recording, our making its flyby of earth and the whole thing is being broadcast live. It's an exciting week. Yeah, yeah. I don't know. It feels like the space news is ramping up and ramping up. But I think it's probably because we've got GWS T, just injecting a whole new enormous amount of space and astronomy news into this journey. So last week, we talked about the missions that we're saying goodbye to. This week, we're going to talk about some upcoming missions to say hello to. Some are brand new. Others are recycled. Now, has health frozen over, is that what's going on here? Are we about to talk about things that are going to happen in the future? So I find myself more than willing to talk about missions that are out there moving in our solar system but have not yet either gotten to the object they're aiming for or have sent back science data and yeah, I'm actually going to be willing to acknowledge some missions that almost launched and will be launching soon and then everyone is talking about that. I'll take it. You know what? You don't need justified anymore. I'll take it. Done. Sold. Let's do it. Whatever kitchen scraps I can scavenge here to share my enthusiasm for the future, I am a 100% on board. So pick a commission. What do you want to talk about? Oh, Cyrus RHex. The mission we watched launch together. Exactly. This mission has a sweet spot in my heart, not just because it's a mission I got to work on, but also because it's a mission that almost flew into literally flu itself into and asteroid. And the more we learn about its sample tag, the sillier, the entire situation, is because gravity was so low when they went to calculate the force of friction on the mission as it plunged its sample arm into the asteroid by accident. The friction was essentially zero. And I just love the fact that they plunge roughly half a meter into the asteroid, discovering it was the consistency of a ball pit with essentially zero friction going in. So what would that, I mean, what would be something with like zero friction going in. So you're seeing like a ball pit. Where they're being held together with almost no gravity. And so as you push the collector in, the material just shoves away very easily for it to be able to grab it sample. So the amount of frictional force an object experiences is a combination of the force between the object and the thing that is causing the friction. So it's the normal force, basically. And the normal force is very, very, very low. When a human being's force onto the object from gravity would be the equivalent of a sheet of paper on your hand on earth. So you have a very low normal force. And then that combination of low normal force and a not very high value of friction anyways just works out to essentially zero as it plunged into that ball pit of rocks that made out that rubble pile asteroid and it's going to bring us its sample of rocks that was basically shoved full of as it plunged down in September of 2023 and the mission has been approved to go on and I have to always look at how to say this. It is, it is becoming Osiris apex. As it goes off to explore the asteroid Apophis and it should see Apophis in 2029. Now, Apophis is a very interesting asteroid. This is the one that astronomers had tagged as one of the most potentially hazardous asteroids that we knew of, why is Apophis such an interesting target for Osiris to do after it delivers its samples. So this is an asteroid that is fairly large, which means that if it hit us, it would be devastating. And it's going to come between us and the geosynchronous satellites in a few years. And that's a little bit too close for comfort and not only is it coming to that close to earth, but if it had passed through a gravitational sweet spot called the keyhole is what it got named, if it had passed through this gravitational sweet spot, it meant that it was going to come back. And smack us directly in the farther out future, but still within our lifetimes, assuming we don't get hit by a car or something. Within our naturally expected lifetimes and they had run the math and figured out that if that impact occurred, it would occur in the Pacific Ocean and thus we were going to face essentially Lucifer's hammer kind of a future where

"And he also helped develop century two. He said, the fact that century couldn't automatically handle the arcasi effect was a limitation. Every time we came across a special case, like asteroids, Apophis, bennu, and 1950 DA, we had to do complex and time consuming manual analyses with century two, we don't have to do that anymore. So that's a key advantage to century two over century one. Okay, now century one couldn't calculate the orbital changes due to their cost effect. It also could not deal with asteroid orbits that got really close to the earth. When you have an asteroid that happens to get really, really close to the earth and is gravitationally affected much more than normally when it does is it creates all sorts of uncertainties in the future orbit of the asteroid. So it makes it much, much harder to predict what's going to happen after the gravitational interaction with the earth at such close range. You guys have probably heard of keyholes. So those are specific areas in space that if an asteroid went through the keyhole, it could because it went through that keyhole in that specific position, then its next orbit or a subsequent orbit will hit the earth because it went through that keyhole. So you'll often hear about an asteroid going through a keyhole. If it goes through that keyhole, we're kind of screwed in 20 years or 30 years or a hundred years, whatever it is, when it comes back, because that keyhole made it changed its orbit just enough so that next time it comes around, it gives us a whack. So that's kind of related to that. Now century one could not could not calculate that. If an asteroid was going to come really close to the earth, century one could not calculate in the future if it could hit the earth with high confidence, century two can do that. So that's another huge plus for century two. And century two is so exquisitely sensitive that it could tell you the odds of an impact, even if it's as low as three chances in 10 million. So it's very, very sensitive. And so I do feel a little safer now, but I won't be happy until we have that deflective beam obelisk from that classic episode. Yes. What was he called Paradise syndrome? That would be nice, but I don't think we're going to create a deflective beam obelisk in the ever actually ever. In the ever. Right. And so obviously there's a two pronged approach here. We need to detect the asteroids and we need to work on the technology to deflect them. Right. And the key is not to just detect it, but to detect it so far in the future. So time to deal with it..

"Yes. Actually this is just cheered me up a little bit this dude, 'cause we seem to be making some progress in doing at least in doing our due diligence to find asteroids that could potentially be dangerous to us or to earth. This is a new impact in monitoring system. That's now online that could calculate deadly asteroid orbits better than the one that's been calculating for us for the past 20 years. There's a new study describing the system called century two, and it was published in the astronomical journal this past December 1st. So let's first talk about what century one had been doing ever since 2002. So the jet propulsion laboratory JPL, I developed the software almost 20 years ago. What it can do in less than 60 minutes basically, it could accurately tell you the orbit of a newly discovered asteroid for the next 100 years and of course whether it would hit the earth or not. Now, this wasn't a part time job for the software either because we've detected something like 28,000 near earth asteroids NEAs. 28,000 have been found and we find an average of 8 more every day, 3000 a year, every year, every day, 8 more, 8 more, 8 more. And how near is nearby in this context? There's different classes, but near earth is within, you know, relatively near within millions of miles, many millions of miles, which is actually kind of close. If you think about it. So to deal with this clearly scary situation, as I describe it, JPL manages the center for near earth object studies, CN EOS. So now it's their job to run the numbers on every orbit for every near earth asteroid that's discovered. And it does this to support an office, probably the coolest office name ever, NASA's planetary defense coordination office, and I think we've talked about that. Haven't we? I think we talked about that once. I just like my favorite office of all time, right? Planetary defense. It's like that. What's that company? General atomics. It's just such a, such a great 1950s ring to it. So what they do is they provide early detection for potentially hazardous objects. That's PHOs. And okay, so PHOs they're within 5 million miles. If you're within 5 million miles, that's a, which is a type of NEA. But they're clearly much more hazardous because you're only 5 miles 5 million miles away within that. So that means Evan that near earth asteroids, I think are farther than 5 million, obviously. There's planetary defense office also categorizes the PHOs as 30 to 50 meters because that because when you get to that size and that those speeds and the kinetic energy, you can do significant damage. They also this office also tracks and characterizes these PHOs and they issue warnings and stuff like that. So very, very cool. So the center for near earth object studies, they help the planetary defense coordination office and they use this sentry software to assess the asteroid orbits. And they were doing it for years. But the rate of discovery is going to be going up very, very soon. As new and much more powerful survey, telescopes, or as my niche used to call them skeletones. That was such an awesome mispronunciation. So these new powerful telescopes are going to start looking for near earth asteroids and they anticipate an influx of newly discovered asteroids, and they need to be able to keep up with that. And we need to also be even more accurate because it's going to be so many that the chances we could find something that could potentially be nasty. So they came out with century two, which is essentially an upgrade. It's an upgrade to the century software. So century two is obviously like number one in that it can accurately calculate orbits based on gravitational interactions. That's key. You might think that that's what orbits are all about, right? Gravitational interactions. And you'd be mostly right because the asteroid any given asteroid will interact gravitationally mainly with the sun, right? It's interacting with the sun gravitationally, but the orbit of the asteroid could also be impacted by other planets, right, and including the earth, of course, so that so that plays in too. But there are non gravitational interactions. That can happen to the orbit that can impact the orbit. They're not based on gravity at all. And century one could not handle them. And so what do you think that might be, guys? What would impact the orbit that's not gravitational? Solar web thing? Have you kind of it's called the yarkovsky effect. So now imagine an asteroid spinning, which they do. So as that happened, as it's spinning, the side that was heated by the sun eventually spins away from the sun and faces the opposite direction and it cools down. So that infrared energy is released as it cools, and that minute thermal energy acts as a force that that's a kind of like a little mini engine a little bit of thrust that over time can actually change the orbit of an asteroid. Now, day to day, of course, that is negligible. You could just completely discount it fully. But after decades or centuries, it could act your effect can actually make dramatic changes to an orbit, and they're very, very difficult to calculate. So difficult that century one, which had some very slick mathematical algorithms, it couldn't calculate it. But this is what century two will be able to do. Now, do you guys remember Apophis, right? That's probably one of 20 famous. Yeah, one of the most famous asteroids out there. And mainly because for a little while there, we actually weren't sure what if it was going to hit the earth at some point more around 2068 when it came back again after the 2029 was it? So we weren't really sure because we couldn't rule out that impact in 2068, and that's why so many people actually know about Apophis. Now the reason why we couldn't rule it out at that time was mainly because of this yarkovsky effect. They hadn't fully nailed down that what the impact is on the thermal energy that's hitting that asteroid. Of course we do know now we have fully fleshed out the yarkovsky effect on Apophis and we know that Apophis is not going to is not going to hit us for at least well over a hundred years. So don't really don't worry about Apophis. But that's yarkovsky effect right there. That's why people were so scared of a pop is because we hadn't really nailed it yet. So David for Nokia is a navigation engineer JPL..

NASA has tried using the deployment Motors on the rotors, which initially unfold the solar panels to in effect, shake the panels. But that hasn't done the trick. Now they seem to be succeeding by trickling a few bits of sand onto the panels. These large particles bounce off the paddles, taking smaller dust particles with them. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it seems to work and will apparently have to until we finally deploy in dust on future Mars missions. Mars Perseverance Rover. Having shown it can fly a helicopter up there is now kicking in its main science work, driving to a place called the Jet zero crater, looking for any signs of ancient microbial life. In pursuit of that, since the crater has all kinds of different geologic features. They've got a map with optional side routes, and so on. NASA's jet Propulsion Labs likens it to an old auto club type map, or maybe the type of Matt found in cruise missiles. NASA's trying to fight all the rocks out there, which could do a serious harm should they crash into Earth. And to that end, they're planning to launch the near Earth Objects. Surveyor Space Telescope. Presumably with a sense of urgency in five years. At least we have one such rock in space, which is no longer a reason for imminent worry Asteroid Apophis or more precisely, Asteroid 9994 to a Pappas It's friends Just call it. 99 was first discovered 70 years ago, and there were fears that the 1100 ft Diameter Rock might be headed our way and that could be very dangerous. 2029 was the first feared approach, followed by 2036, followed by 2068. But now more precise tracking of its orbit shows Asteroid 9994 to Apophis is no risk to earth or at least a century. Still, our advice start planning now. The off beat. I'm Jim Bohannon. America in.

I typed in the words of Apophis and it's actually Pothos places right? It's actually a pothos is the name of the elf is the the album It's the name of the name of the plant. So you've got you've got a couple of those or one of those or got a I got a couple of those I've got I have a snake plant. I have to snake plants. Actually. They are also would be very familiar to you or anyone listening if you're like what the what the hell is that? Like they're just kind of the tall leave. It's just kind of like Spike my friend described it when I bought one is like she was like, it looks like the hair of someone like a cartoon on Nickelodeon like, yep. Yep and their conversational plants because they kind of look like but they look like at all like a like a look like a bunch of snakes standing around. Yeah. They also are pretty hard to kill ice and can be and what you know, you don't need water them much right? And then I've got a pet. I I've got a pencil Cactus, okay. They're just it looks it looks like a lot of green pencils all glued together. They'll put in with their many. Yeah. Okay, many many many sticks. Okay, and it's another great plant that like as long as you got some sunlight you can forget to water it for. Yep. For weeks at a time and it'll just YouTube you guys because you're getting me holding the phone up and perfect. I won't set a bonsai tree. Have you ever thought of you ever done any reading cuz I haven't ever had one. I feel like I wanted one when I was young cuz I remember there was a bonsai kiosk in arm off like I want one of those and my mom would be like what your ten you can't I'm not buying you a plant. Like I think I was Thirty and I killed it in a week and yeah, they see him delegate Jewell. Yeah. Yes. I'm very and but very pretty it was it was gorgeous and sadly kind of like I feel like when I see them and maybe this is because I only associate them with the kiosk in the mall selling a very specific job. Laughter style but like it almost felt like they had a whole scene to them. Like well the pot like it looks like like that one side umbrella kind of situation where the world shirt where the truck is on one side and then they've they've they've curved it to make it look like sort of a shade or an audit. Yes, and I guess I don't know what kind of tree it was. All I know is the guy who made it home and he gifted it to me. I killed it immediately and I felt really bad about it. He was like, that's all right. I do I make a lot of them and I was like, okay right off. And.

I don't know what it's called, like their pa official Twitter. Thank you. Sure, hope, Apophis. How could I forget? Tweeted it out. I think it's run by like his granddaughter or his niece or something, because there's someone who gets those pictures. Um And they put that up it and someone else tweeted out and said, You know, all these people are dying from Cove it and I saw all the liberals going All the liberal saying he deserves time off. He has to let steam off, too just because he's the president and and someone said, That's not the rules we set up with Trump. I don't I didn't think you could do that. I didn't think Mario cart was allowed. Yeah, exactly. That was ah lot of it out there. People were like, I can't believe he's you know, I mean, the conservatives who are playing the same standards of Donald Trump. Donald Trump is golfing. Well, there have been seven Vietnam's worth of death on under covert under under Orange Man. And yet you know, Jack Pacific on Twitter was was a good follow. It kind of the turned it around, and obviously he's being a hyperbolic, But you know, we've had 26 full nine eleven's of covert dead since by it became president and he's playing Mario Kart, emphasizing the point that And When they say you know this. You're saying the left can't mean like they can't make means on the Internet. That or any good. They have no sense of humor and this completely Completely show that they have no sense of irony. They have no sense of humor and like you said, It's just everything blow up and it was fantastic. I noticed that a lot because a lot of people have been saying like Oh, since since Joe Biden's from president. You know, 60,000. I don't know. I haven't been watching the number have died from covert blood on his hands, and they're saying it like Jared said sarcastically. We're just doing it like they did for Donald Trump and the amount of people who don't understand that it's a joke. Is Frightening And I say this all the time, the scariest place In this country is the reply section of a tweet because You will see people I on that tweet. You're referring to Jared from the Oval Pappas. There was a woman who was like the second tweet down and she was seriously tweeting out. I'm paraphrasing here. She said. Like I'm so happy your family is running the country. It makes me so happy to know there's decency back. Such a cute photo love it so much, and I was like I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. "The surface of the planet Earth, we're going to just off the surface of the asteroid Bennu, where for many months The Probe of Cyrus Rex has been parked prior to its return to Earth. We're talking about fresh information about an asteroid that might Reach all the way back to the proto solar system. Bob Zimmerman. He keeps the website behind the back black and he is here to explain how Bennu Is a possible breakthrough. Just like Haya Busa and Rio. Go and how well Cyrus Rex is not done yet. Miles to go before it sleeps, Baba. Very good evening to you. First of all. Cyrus Rex is nearby. Bennu. I've been told not to say in orbit around because it yet okay, it's nearby. What is it? It has achieved? What else else is possible. All right. Well, as you know it back a few months ago is it grabbed Successfully grabbed a sample of material from the surface of Bennu. And because the special flap that was useful to close after they grabbed the sample couldn't close because there was so much sample there. They were unable to Do certain tests they wanted to do, and they were unable to fire the Rockets immediately to stop the spacecraft from its retreat from the new And so when they when they did this my first question I repeatedly emailed the science team was well, Are you guys going to go back to the new to take a look at the 19 glad Gail's sample grab spots. To see how the grab changed the surface because that's like fundamental science. You know, they knew what it looked like beforehand. They then ducked down and dipped their sample. Grab him into it. Grab the sample and then retreated, disturbing a lot of stuff and seeing how that surface changed is going to really tell you a lot about not only the surface of the spirit of the asteroid just rubble by last story was gonna tell you a lot about the interior because they got more than a foot. End. It's very You know, it's not it zah Rubble pile, you know, just like where you grew. These bender was the these two with the first rubble pile last words we have seen and we really know nothing really. Almost nothing about such things so going back to look would be really critical before they send Ben do to Earth to bring the sample back Well, there was a press release this week that finally announced that the science team of the service Rex has figured out a way. To make one last observation of venue and the Nightingale simpler Turn site before they head back to Earth. They've set the date for firing the engines to send the space craft back to Earth as maintenance and it's going to be one of the most powerful burns they've done. Um, but before then, to get into position for that burn, they have figured out how to send the spacecraft. To do a single slot. To do a single fly by off the of Bhanu. And that would include also a full rotation of Bhanu to get a high resolution images of the northern and southern hemispheres and equatorial regions and also to be able to look at Nightingale and to see how it changed. They're going to be able to get within two miles of the surface when they do that. That's a big deal because you'll really get to know what how. How this change, therefore, learn a lot about what the asteroids like and then the main tent they leave and in about two years that comes back. Yeah, says Rex gets close to earth. They dropped the sample capsule back to Earth. I think it's gonna land someplace in the South West us where they can recover the sample. And then what happens to Sarah's Rex except for its ability to grab samples? It's a working spacecraft. I should say that they were gonna use this fly by of Bennu as a test to see how all the instruments of functioning after that sample, grab and go. This is a lot of debris flying about and know everything seems right. They'll use that fly by contest. Still the instruments if everything is working fine when they drop off the sample, they could go someplace else and one of their prime candidate places to go. Is the asteroid Apophis. After that, Apophis is a potentially dangerous asteroid. Not much is known about it. Other than it's all rough orbit. It will do a close fly by of the Earth really close library the earth in 2029. And there is they have done them the calculations and they could send a Cirrus Rex into a rendezvous with a purpose at shortly after that, fly by and then stick with it for a period of time to study it. That's their prime goal that I think is that prime choice and it's just a matter of giving the pools the mission extension from that, sir. And it would be a cheap, cheap way to get a gigantic payoff in science. Apophis. That's the one that's nicknamed every black Every bad Friday you've ever had that Apophis was the one when they first spotted it about almost a decade ago. They thought it was going to hit the Earth and 29. And with almost certain hit in 36. They did more. We calculate calculations. They didn't observations, and they realized Nope. Sunken in 29. It's not gonna his 36. It can hit it sometime later in the next century. At 150 years from now. Not not me and you problems. John may be enough for grandchildren. But ever since the pandemic every time they tell me nothing to worry about, that's when I circle the The problem and start worrying about it. All right, let's go to Mars, The Kasai Valley. Yeah. Yeah, I've written about the Kasai Valley. It's another one of my cool images. And this was a cool Kasai Valley is suspected to have been formed by a catastrophic flood sometime or a long time ago on Mars. And if you look at the image of the map of the Kasai Valley behind the black, you'll see why they think that it looks very much like the braided channels you'll see in the Southwest. Dry washes that periodically have flash floods, and they produced a similar kind of erosion. Now what I did in this post Jonah's I started out I started from a distance and work my way in Because I wanted a simulate the experience of scientists. So the map shows you what they initially saw when Mariner nine arrived, and it shows you the volcanic reasons Vallis Marineris, the lowland Northern Plains, and it shows six I valley with the suggestion of catastrophic floods. And then I came a context image from Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. This is an image that this is a camera that takes wider images and has basically mapped the entire planet. So it gives you wide images and you get you get the context of things to look at. And that image shows the maces in this part of inside Valley kind of weird. They all have moats around them. Depressions around the certain the Mesa itself. So that means you want to take a closer vision picture, and that's what my post is about This cool image off. The one of the maces that has on that is its slopes are covered with Slob streaks. Sub streets look like avalanches. At first glance, they I'm not. They do not change the topography. It all all they do is stain the surface slightly. You don't see any pile of material at the base because it's not an avalanche. It is a unique phenomenon. Tomorrow's they really do not understand. At this point they think it might have to do with drying percolating down the surface. Kind of like water drops on your windshield when it rains. That's a theory they don't really know. And this Mesa has this moat around it once again. Well, why all the masons He have slope speaks and Mason and moats and it's hard to say it might have to do with the catastrophic flood. Flood brought in a lot of lot of months and then over time, then that mode washes away or not blows away, and the erosion process tends to remove it from around the hard maces themselves that don't get eroded. Who knows? I don't really know. John. That's just cool. We go to the giant large cave pits of Mars. Why, Bob? Why are you fascinated with these holes in the crowd? Yeah, This is one of my fruit repeated posts about the pits on Mars, almost all of which are located in the volcanic sauces. Balitsch, where the giant volcanoes are and most of them surrounding RC Amman's The Southern most of the three in line and I know so I wanna make sure I can attain least a document on behind the black. Every pit that is that is seen and these pits tend to be between 100. 2 500 ft Across..

"When we look at that, and when we referenced Brandenburg, which talked about the intensive speech The imminent of lawlessness and a lot of lawlessness. Willie When you look at that test House, then the intent that day based on what preceded it. It appears basically that it could rise to that level. What about the double standard? What's acceptable to some is not acceptable to others. They were in large numbers of Democrats, including vice president to be Kamila Harris, who raised money. For those getting out on bond, who burned down Minneapolis and there were many times taking to the streets getting their face. I can recall Maxine Waters get in their face and restaurants and gasoline stations practically every Democrat. There's like 47 examples. I have of the Democrats telling people taking to the streets do what you got to do. We got to change the country. The idea the Democrats are held to a different standard than Republicans. And that's where the laws got to come in and make the differential. The law has got to mean something. And when Rudolph Giuliani said there must be trial by combat Trial by combat. That's another issue. Donald Trump Jr talked about fighting like hell. Don't let them do this. You had the president, raising his right hand and a fist like gestured. He used the word fighting or fight about seven or eight times. He wanted. A fight to take place is that I'll walk with you down Pennsylvania Avenue. Now the president would say that's freedom of speech on the president. I can do what I wanna do. And But the law on this area is a little iffy is between the 40 in the 40 yard line. It depends politically what side you fall on his toe. What the outcome might be. I contend that it would be a horrible thing for America to put a former United States president in jail. Normally that we've never locked up one of our former leaders. And so what would politics Austin playing in this a little bit, too? Willie Apophis plays into everything now from literally going online. Just trying, take a dog walk. And here Lee were bombarded by politics, but what we have to do it, take it one step at a time and recognized the fundamental distinction. Reference. A lot of these political people out there that are saying go to the streets take action under the wall, and that's the analysis. That dollar now is right now. It is essential imperative and failure to recognize the key word being imminent. There is a huge distinction. And you know what I'm thinking back to the day that was trying to pay attention to the law student, you know, hoping my professors don't hear this. But there was one example that I always remember and last time to back in con law with my teacher that There's a big difference between take to the street versus Take to the streets right now and go down March, Toe otr and burn the place down. That's different. The difference is that you can generally paint with a broad brush and even face him inflammatory things, but really legally what you cannot do, including the president, especially the president. Cannot go and reference with specificity. Bash Sean of Democracy, which is the capital Go down there. And take it back. So stop this deal is what he said. Stop the steel. They're stealing going on. And then there were counting the electoral ballots that which is the sacred constitutional duty, And that is what was to be disrupted. Now. Time is short. Austin a Puma. Let me ask you this about Twitter and Facebook and Google and all the rest parlor. I'm watching this morning Judge Jeannine Pirro that Tony Bender loves to watch, And she made the reference that our first Amendment rights are being evaporated and I'm looking at her saying. Man. Are you wrong? Explain why the first Amendment doesn't apply to Twitter, Facebook or power will. Amen. You know, Remember that movie back in like 2000 Erin Brockovich with Julia Roberts. Remember that? No. She went around and fought against toxic Cos I die aggressed. The reason I mentioned that is often were so guilty of this warriors are there's a quote in there that says Why you make things so complicated that are complicated. And you know what? In this specific area. It's not complicated, folks. Here's the reality. You're going to hear so many different talking at so many different things. But guess what? It's this simple. A private corporation is incapable of infringing on free speech. You know why? Because they're not the government and the First Amendment does not apply. Twitter Google Parlor. Olive garden. Whomever can go ahead and say, Hey, you can't say that in here. Hey, you can't do that in here. Hey, You can't tweet that from here That is the reality. It's that simple. Private businesses are not government entities. And so it Twitter confer. Any reason good reason. Bad reason along is not prohibited by law. What would you say? OK, let's say they say we're not gonna let black people on Twitter. Well, now you got a problem. That's the 1964 Civil Rights Act. However, they can say You know what we're going to. We're going to keep off individuals who are conservatives. Because conservatives are not covered by the 1964 Civil rights Act, etcetera and its progeny, and therefore, when I hear lawyers, including former judges talk about the First Amendment and Twitter, my eyes roll back in my head. Yeah, you and I, both my friend because there is a difference. It's about informing the American people off What the law actually is. We live in a society that values diversity in opinions and schools of thought, But what we cannot do it continued toe beaten to a bloody pulp. To complete fallacy and misinformation about the Constitution, which unfortunately is actually being desecrated in so many ways, you know, I guess I'm I'm catch. I'm a political observer. But for the last several months, the left him and talking about defunding the police when he'd less police And now they deplore the lack of police on the Capitol somewhat inconsistent and Kamila Harris and the summer help set up a fund to free on bond. Those who burned down Minneapolis there numerous quotes and cuts of practically every Democrat when the riots were going on, and not and Nancy Pelosi was asking July. Would you comment about this? She said. People do what people do. It's like no big deal. CNN commentators would say riots are the language is used by those not heard by the unheard. And so maybe the Trump supporters were paying attention to CNN. Numerous examples have existed of the double standard. Some violence is worse than other violence. How about the autonomous zone said happened in Seattle with the warlord Raz Simone and his armed thugs with absolute impunity took over a part of Seattle and also Portland, There were four shootings. Two deaths destroyed or vandalize thousands of state and federal public monuments all over the country, including some in Washington, D C. Surrounded the White House fences were put up. Washington D. C was burning. Hundreds of buildings were looted and the Democrats that their convention did nothing. No condemnation whatsoever. It ignored the ignored it because it fit a political purpose of the Democrats. That doesn't justify it all. I criticize it all those who walked into the capital and vandalize it should be prosecuted and those in Washington, D. C. Who burned a tried to burn down the Episcopal Church there and vandalized.

"Go ahead and terminate you if they did not like what they saw. Right now. What about the president himself last night? We debated this greatly and that is that Did the president incite a riot? Practically every Democrat said he did. A few Republicans said he did. And as you know, the The case that determines the outcome is one called Clarence Brandenburg vs the state of Ohio. Brandenburg vs Ohio Decided 1969. The Supreme Court held that the government cannot punish Inflammatory speech. Unless that speech is quote, directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite to produce such event. Quote unquote in your view. Did President Donald Trump commit a felony and signing a riot under the standards of Brandenburg vs Ohio In my view, Based on that case, all is well with what's called the progeny will be, which is a fancy legal would be like to talk around. It sounds smarter than we are when the case is applied after decided It rises to that level, and I have to explain why. Because inherently, you nailed it. Well, you live in such a divisive and polarizing time. But the reality is the law is the law and how it's applied to be objective. And based on the totality of the circumstances and what we're seeing a lot right now. Willie is A complexion between the private world of public world between parts and ship in the law. But here's the bottom line. And you just quoted that I don't want to get to bear in the woods. This isn't a Constitutional law symposium. But for the listeners to know that general in America, this is great. There's a huge presumption for free speech, right? That's a great thing. We love to have a marketplace of ideas, but you know what, Willie? There is a distinction between a marketplace of ideas and taking a match, throwing gasoline in the marketplace and then throwing that match in there, and that's when it rise the level off incendiary, quite literally incendiary speech. And there's one quote that I somewhat amusing to the linchpin, and I just thought Actually, When I scream the articles of impeachment, it was referenced directly. There's many quote they want the entire transcript of that speech that preceded Right? And one of them was and I quote, we fight like hell. And if you don't fight like count, you're not going to have a country anymore. And then this is couched between all the quotes about walking to the capital going to the capital. I'll be with you. When we look at that, and when we referenced Brandenburg, which talked about the intensive speech The imminent of lawlessness and a lot of lawlessness.
