"Full seasons or two full calendar years I forget how much it worked how it works but anyway. And what's really what's interesting there is that if you put formula E cars here, it'd be one of the biggest tracks. I'm sure I'm there on my calendar. It's far too fast for them and their party slow as packages, but for Formula One cars, it is quite narrow. So a driver skilled in defense knowing where to place their car as Lewis Hamilton absolutely is. How about you Bottas as well to be fair? It's going to make overtaking a challenge because the breaking zones are really shallow, it's such a high speed track. And there's only really 6 corners. It's technical, it's twisty, it's blind, it's unsighted, but in terms of the actual challenging corners that the drivers need to worry about that's only 6. And those overtaking spots are small and very limited. So it could be very tricky for Max Verstappen. It'll be even harder if he starts 8th with the gearbox penalty. In fact, if he does start that, I think it Lewis Hamilton has won the race effectively already. That said there could be safety cars, crashes that shake things up, things like that. Let's now talk about our poster Lewis Hamilton in a little bit more detail. So we had him complaining about a lack of grip in Q two and then when we got into Q three, his push lap didn't go quite a plan, so he went again and then with his second push up he managed to get himself up there onto provisional poll, which obviously ultimately became the real deal. What were your thoughts on his performance today? Yeah, thought of very good from Louis. He tracked to the absolute maximum, I think, as I said earlier, things just went away from Mercedes, the conditions, potentially, potentially, it is now they just haven't nailed the tires that I alluded to. The problem that cost them out in Abu Dhabi last year when that absolutely amazing 2020 car lost at the final race to the Red Bull. But yeah, he was nailed it. He was on form, you know, it's really interesting. You know, he had that disastrous FP three session where, you know, he was in the immediate Nikita Mazepin. There was the yellow flag incident, which was absolutely baffling. He did nothing wrong there. I think the system was activating for a second, but he had no time to react. He didn't even see it, nothing came on for him. So that was absolutely fine, but what was really weird was that we spent quite a whole looking everything at all the camera angle was working out exactly what had happened because nobody had caused an incident worthy of double yellow flags because there was Yuki tso going a bit slowly. He then goes off into the runoff to let Lewis Hamilton buy. None of that is accidentally activated for a single second, but then he actually goes on again because the following Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas both come across yellow flags. It's double for Perry's single for Bottas. But the FIA says that so I went on for a second, then went off and then was actually put back on again because of the first activation. It's all very confusing and very difficult. But fortunately, anybody the sense prevailed really even though you could say by the letter of the law, Hamilton was guilty, but what could he do? If he's in front of him and he's passed it already in that split second, very, very harsh and to penalize him there. The masman thing, again, you could take the view of that absolutely black and white, but he just wasn't warned, I think the FIA are getting taken the view that with the blind corners, it really is on the teams to warn the drivers. They're also noble flags. If you do Hamilton's got no blue flags, how does he know that man's been? He's approaching. So you can sort of, it could have gone either way, but I think just in this instance, the reason why you know people are saying, oh yeah, but last time you were damning towards Max Verstappen for the missing wave flagging Qatar. Well, Max Verstappen could see there was a car stopped on his on his right hand side. And you know, he really should have really lifted off, so that's what the difference was there. But yeah, notice Hamilton had all of that to deal with, put it behind him, you know, there's been a lot of off track distractions, really if you think about the sponsorship controversy and the links with the firm that sponsoring Mercedes and the grenfell disaster managed for the all behind him and delivered and did accidentally heat nothing he can do about Max Verstappen, whether he's faster or slower. He just has to get the best out of the Mercedes and he absolutely did that. He did indeed do that. And you answer my next question because I was going to ask you to expand on that visit to the stewards for Lewis and saw him going and coming back and the media, of course, absolutely swarming him. But you've explained in puppet detail already, so we won't. We won't rehash that. Now, before we wrap things up, just a quick summary of other talking points from today. Charla Claire wound up P four ahead of checker and Pierre gasly, Lando Norris will line up P 7 tomorrow. He's the only driver in the top ten that we're starting on the soft with everyone else and the top ten on the mediums and the top ten is rounded out with Yuki scenario Esteban ocon and Antonio juvenile. And it was a tough day for Carlos Sainz. Can you just shed a little light on what went so wrong for Carlos? Because it was, yeah, not a good one, was it? Yeah, it was very unfortunate for Carlos. I'm just going to quickly make another point often do this. You asked me something and I'll give you an answer. That's something completely differently. But just on land, I know it's starting on those softs. I think it's not going to have the usual problem. The tires aren't wearing out because it's a very, very smooth track surface. He's just going to have the problem of getting those soft up to temperature because the temperature isn't really happening on the mediums or the hards. So he's going to be he's going to have the problem of, oh, what's going on with the tyres and the various corners of the car, getting into their working range at different points. That's going to be tricky for Norris, but that should go away after a few laps on the softs and then he should be able to have no problem with Thai liquidation. But anyway, sorry, that's Carlos science junior, yes. Very unfortunate for him because he was absolutely blindingly quick in Q one. He did mention that this car, this Ferrari car does seem to have a bit of a problem with sudden overstay, so that would charge the Claire. And that massive accident in FP three FB two yesterday. What a performance from the absolutely brilliant what a real excellent recovery I thought that was absolutely tremendous to 9 at fourth and disappointing again from Paris to be behind this lower car. To help his teammate. But anyway, with science, he basically said that when it came to putting on those crucial medium tyres for Q two to avoid the soft problem, as I said with land and ice there, we go see I linked it. He basically said that he didn't adjust the car balance as he should have done for going to that hard attire, and it just caught him out, especially when it came to that sudden snap overstay the Ferrari can sometimes suffer from. He thought he saved it. He basically did just brush the he said he couldn't feel that the rearing endplate that is he didn't feel that hit against the wall, but it did just enough damage that I didn't have time to change the wing that unsettled the car even more and there was nothing he could do from there. Not a good day, but I did speak to him in the evening as well for paddock club and yeah he said that tomorrow is where the focus is now and he is hoping of course that he'll be able to make up positions tomorrow and get a good result so let's keep an eye on that. Now Alex before I let you go, let's wrap it up with some qualifying predictions what do you think the podium will look like tomorrow? We saw that moment in the podium interviews afterward where Lewis went over to Valtteri, clearly so pleased with his performance. Do you think we will see a one two from Mercedes on the podium? What do you reckon? Yeah, I thought I thought you might ask me this question, Ariana. And he's so hard to predict because not only can I see Lewis Hamilton disappearing into the distance, especially if max was happen, struggles to get past Valtteri Bottas quickly or indeed has to take a gearbox penalty. I could equally see if Red Bull and Verstappen do have half a second on Mercedes or the best part of half a second..

So it seems like sabah's gonna give the new generation of a hard luck that maybe restores his fortunes of it and maybe restores some of the passion that certainly I felt some has been a little bit a wall in his in his game of late. "Like. I couldn't believe that he was that fast. Close taking that angle. It was like the bravest overtake of the whole day. They do this in the sprint. He did he held onto it for like half a lap and back unlike the straight i wanna say and then just like regained. It got the tow and it took a pack. Yeah it was like what is maybe. This podcast is going on. We kind of get into it right now but we should talk about at some stage bush in particular his his weirdness with cutting corners like this has happened a couple of times in races where he's not giving places like this seems pretty cut and dry overseas. The points team needs in a race in which to other drivers out. I will say there's not much you can do. Because this is the thing. "He made with the clutch. He lost two places. Botas got away well and finished in first. Although as we said he'll he'll start from the back. But he he tagged the back of ricardo into turn one and damaged his front wing which caused him to careen off at curva. Grendade just did not have the downforce to make the turn and gobbled him actually. It actually went under his car like he. He lost them. That's right so yeah because the car source find a command and he didn't know that wing was dangling and then what's gun car. It just like by by getting them off. Yeah so he will have to start the race from the pit lane due to a gearbox change Among other things as a result of damage from that crash tough lap for bits or watch as well because it was at sonoda spun him at the And then sonoda also had to pay for. I think front wing damage as well so that's like sprint races. Getting sent back to the back is just the worst because like you have no time to fix it. you know. there's no like strategy involved in getting against the front again you just kinda Well guess i'll finish this race. Danny do you want to kick it off. Sure all is on. I guess the fractured nature of the league championship leaders here. Because we've got a bunch of mclaren's a hanging out there in the middle of it It was interesting because earlier in the week. They were saying they've got good quality pace and they've got good short space. But you know even though landau and Dino rebel to hold off the mercedes during the sprint race. They were both pretty down the idea that they'd be able to do it for here. But maybe they have good star so it was kind of an interesting proposition for the start of this race especially the nature of the first corner which is a very sort of do-or-die type of Chicane the only really slow part of the entire circuit so off they went. And right away you tastic. Starch from was so both houses obviously never shuffled back to the back of the garage. So ricardo's second and landau starting behind for stopping What of loitering with intense behind them at ricardo just has a solid starch. Like it's he. By the time they get to the first hard he is definitely a heads and in a decent spot on the track to take it properly and verstappen racing at this age. as well. doesn't overly vitally protects well from landau in a way. I wonder if he actually prefers doing dot so he pushes landau and hamilton together. A little bit to force them to have a bit of a scuffle am but as they get around towards curva grande day. Generally you kind of notice what happens here because of the nature of claire just like quit the elbow out in twenty nineteen right like it's real easy to aggressively defend. Yes it's a you can aggressively defend as you're entering and push them really at wide sort of on the end before he gets turned and also in the apex.
