Mahomes to have surgery to fix turf toe

"Were talking about Patrick Mahomes undergoing surgery turf toe. And we started talking about this about three hours ago, and we were just going around the room going. Do we know exactly what a turf toe is? Because it gets it gets thrown around a lot and remember when dealing Sanders was with us at the Super Bowl when he took off his sock, and he showed us that toe That was turf toe that never healed whether he had surgery on it or nod Jack Lambert, the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, I think had turf toe and it stayed with him the rest of his career, so we thought You know what? Let's bring in somebody who knows what they're talking about. A former NFL offensive lineman won a Super Bowl with Washington a Harvard trained orthopedic doctor, mark addicts and good to have you back on here, Doc. So Do you want us to tell you what we think Turf toe is and then you could probably correct us on this. That'd be great. Let's see what you guys got. Let's see how good you are. All right. I'll start with you, Paulie. What do you think your toe is like a ligament sprain in the toe that hampers an athlete from pushing off like sprinting like running for two. You got a definition for church to one's toe was so severely sprained from the pounding on the torture that it does something. What kind of disconnects Tito from the other toes and needs to be surgically fix a snap back into place. All right, Seaton It is an injury that when, uh, say like wide receivers are going to get their second foot in and they drag it along the left their toes on the turf, and then it gets hurt like that. No, I did not. I did not even look at it that way. Yes, my club, So I thought it was a rug burn style injury from any time she goes on the worse when you're playing with your kids of rug burn, but I do believe it's out. Now ligament underneath your toe that connects to the foot. Okay, let's let's bring in. Doc and Doc. What exactly is Turf toe. Well, I think I think example one wins the ligament injury so it could be a ligament injury. Or it could be an injury to the planter plate, which is almost like a Cartlidge thing That's on the bottom of it, So it is the big toe joint. And it rarely. Is it an injury? There were quite a surgery. The bass majority of players don't require surgery in the NFL there have been about there was a study that was done that had about 30 guys with serfdom. Injuries that were pretty severe, and only about 10% ended up requiring some surgery. Deon Sanders did require surgery. Deon Sanders Strip toe injury did end his career. Essentially, he stuck around for a couple more years, but never really was the same. Antonio Gates had it had a pretty bad turf toe had surgery in 2000 and eight and played Many years was very productive after that injury in surgery, So generally speaking guys, too, Okay. I think John was as his foot with a test was an extreme case. Didn't Mahomes play the Super Bowl with a Tauron ligament? Certainly did. I mean, I In other words, when you have a tip toe injury there, three grades break one. Great, too Great three. It's the same for almost anything. Great one, just a few of the fibers or tourney. Great to a bunch more. Tauron. Great three. It's completely disrupted. So for someone to need surgery generally, there's got to be a little bone chip. It's in the joint or the toe has to be somewhat unstable, which would tell you that that ligament tear had to be pretty significant.

"Exactly Antonio Gates. Like Jason Witten better in Antonio Gates. I like Jason Witten. Better Antonio Gates. I like the fella Winslow Better than like Jason Witten. The bad thing about Antonio Gates is I just I'll always remember first turf tow turf, toe his turf toe like that. Unfortunately, they could just screwing in fantasy football because you just sit out again with his turf toe. It's all about the money. It's all about the weird thing. But when I think of Antonio Gates, I think of his His large backside. Okay, Carrie, I don't know why that I don't have profiles of many player backsides. But when I think of Antonio Gates and like that's number one and I had a large behind why, Why do I think of that? Someone argued that he stopped the best cowboy tiding of all time. Some people would say, J Noble Challenge took our Billy Joe do clean up here. All right? Yeah, well, I know I think my wrong numbers. He is. Don't get me wrong. I think he probably is the best. Yeah, that's cowboy tiding of all time, likely a future in coaching, right? I mean, it. Does he want to try it television again and bring out that terrible hair piece and hola. Rabbit out of his head was the thing that he It was so bad man. He was so bad. So bad. His heart was that one of the famous catch. Remember him saying And why pulled a rabbit out of his head about some quarterback who? Just the thought he was gonna be sacked today. He's like Joe. There he does it again, pulling a rabbit out of his head. And I'm like, Don't rabbit out of your head. It's pretty impressive. You could do that, But But probably, you know, winds up as a, you know, a good coach somewhere. In fact, here, I'll use this to transition. There was at least a moment where there was conversation. Could he be the next tell Tennessee volunteers head football coach? I thought for sure you were going to throw Alabama out there. I was, like, really? Really. Let me tell you what I think Some of the Tennessee faithful would weather have him that Josh Heiple, the former Oklahoma quarterback, find Mom called it safe and under what safe and underwhelming today. Uh, yeah. How Josh Heiple? Uh, it's Danny White is the new athletic director in Tennessee. He was the athletic director at central Florida. So this is now twice that he has hired Josh Heiple for the head coaching position there. You know, I don't know. I remember Josh Heiple on he was beating up on Texas back in the early two thousands there. Hey, would it wasn't in the offensive coordinator in Oklahoma for a little while? I feel like we're well, I feel like they weren't great when he was the offensive coordinator was they were when he was often we coordinator waiting. What do you see? Who will be Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2021

"But we begin today with music that philip rivers is retiring after seventeen seasons in the nfl. Sixteen with the chargers and san diego and los angeles and this one season in indianapolis when he got to the playoffs rivers never got to the super bowl but he stands fifth all time in passing yards and touchdown passes and he started the final. Two hundred forty games of his career without interruption will now become a high school football coach in alabama. Like his dad. We'll how will you remember his career. Well tony we automatically in any sport. Now we began to group people right and we associate certain people with certain folks football. It's done by position you know in a way that is probably not in the other sports. But i think of warren moon and dan fouts guys who were prolific prolific players who had long runs and played almost every game and they had a piled up passing stats. Galore like rivers did but they didn't reach the super bowl and then about through no fault of their own. Their teams weren't good enough. They got close. Each of those three gentlemen got close. But didn't have the breakthrough to the super bowl and rivers the same way river sets himself apart because he ran his mouth a lot. Which i have done without and i tend to like trash talkers but i i am. I didn't take to that. But he was a prolific quarterback. Tony he will receive serious consideration for the hall of fame. You know. I mean fouts and moon that to me shapes the category. I don't know if you've got other names. You'd like to put in there as well. Get to the hall of fame in a second but in looking at philip rivers his career. I thought he was a very very good player. I will remember. Most is the way the way he delivered the ball where he wound up and threw it as far as he could. And most of the time you thought it wasn't even going to get there. But it got there especially with antonio gates and it ended up in the end zone a lot. You talked about grouping people. Well i'm gonna group them as well. I'm going to group them with his draft class and draft class ally manning ben rothlisberger. They both dot to multiple super bowls. They both won super bowls. I feel badly for philip rivers in this regard to me. It's like charles barkley. It's everything but the ring because the statistics are certainly there. And i thought it was a very good quarterback. I'll take the hall of fame issue. I'll add another name dan marino. Who never won a super bowl if the comparables to marino and to moon and to fouts are rare. Then he's going to get in. I don't think they hold it against you. If you haven't won a super bowl there are people who've won. Two super bowls aren't in the hall of fame. You not room for a long ten years. Yeah do you think he would get in.

"Take you back and get a win. I just took that as a slight. I don't know if Jared Goff is a guy by the way I I thought I've been saying this a couple of years and I got laughed out of the building when I first started saying in the rams. Were the team that I referred to because they had a quarterback on a rookie contract. They were able to build the super team super team. I mean you had studs from all over. Wade Phillips was running defense. Add like four or five first round draft picks in it. I mean the offense was loaded across the board. Then Ed Page Eric Gough. And then everything went downhill. Look to Seattle seahawks whenever Russell Wilson was on his rookie contract. Their pay up everybody around him. They obviously want to a cup soup. Bowls won a couple of super bowls. Or whatever then whenever they paid Russell Wilson. They went downhill. So I said the model is going to be you cheap quarterback and you build up a super team around him and then you recycle and restart in everybody's well. You can't do that because if you get a good good quarterback you have to pay you have to pay him. You have to pay him well. If that good quarterback isn't an elite quarterback is a quarterback that can win games all by himself without anybody else. Then you're basically just leveraging and hemorrhaging cash against yourself with paying that quarterback in your team has no chance I think golf is the test subject that for both sides of it. Whenever they had a super team they were very good very relevant golden circle now next year. They lose girlie one of the most. You know he's running back. Whatever happened last year with his degenerative knee and all that stuff. They lose him. Probably GONNA LOSE. Brandin cooks that team be able to survive in. I don't think they will be able to now. It's not just golf. There's other big contracts as well but that team with their new logo. New Stadium is about to have a very new normal. Which was the old normal. Which is I think they're gonNA stink. And I don't like it because I like Aaron Donald a lot and I like the couple but I think they're gonNA stink. I don't think they have enough to really feel too good team at this point and I think it's because of the way the contracts were set up that they want all in and then now you're you know Kinda fucked. Yeah they went all in. They didn't win. They got the super bowl name. They lost the barn burner with the Patriots. What was the final score? Thirteen to three ten three hundred thirteen three up. What a weird super bowl. That was so great. Are you worried about the chiefs then? Moving forward once they pay pat. Mahomes two hundred Mil. The chiefs only have like five hundred and fifty thousand dollars in cap space right now or something like that. They're like the least cap team in the League right now somehow and they're still conversation about them extending Patrick Mahomes and they don't have to until at least next year but if Patrick Mahomes is a guy by the way that I think I think he can I think Batman's a guy you keep in your in your facility and so you think so. You think he's coming home taking a stand there. I'll I'll do take right now. I think Patrick Mahomes is one of those guys who want to gain by himself. But I do guys clip it hanging out soothe things. So it'll be interesting to see that team after they pay him and have to pay other people. What happens with it because that's the that's the tale of the NFL. You start having success. Everybody starts getting wanted in jobs. More money obviously teams that can withstand. That are impressive. Which takes us back to the Patriots. Being good for twenty years probably never happening again for anybody else. That's why it was cool for you to be a part of that connor in a positive light but now you've probably experienced what the Detroit lions fans have had to experience. We got stood on steady. Is The guy said? He was a white Cam. Newton Cam Newton Yeah. Why why does everything about rice? While you're right and Brian Hoyer off. That dude signed chance to start radars. Eighty five years old. We need the future. Here knows the offense veteran coach on the field stinks. Does he will be a great mentor. Force them league coach's Kid. He threw good ball last year. He just threw it to the other team. That was the thing when he played for the colts through a good ball. I liked his. You know his Moxie seem like he was ready to go to the other team all the time out. Why is this breakthrough run a ball the other team? You're right though. Pat That is definitely the motto especially now a win rookie. Contracts Are Kinda slotted. And you're not getting fifty mil guaranteed right off the bat if you're the number one overall pick if you can draft a quarterback. He can start his rookie year. Not at the very beginning. Let's say he's he steps in halfway through his rookie year. You have like a three year window where you can bring in some pieces around him and you. You hope that that quarterback is a franchise guy that he turns into a one hundred. Eighty million dollars quarterback that you have to pay a great problem to have but you have like this three year window when he's on his rookie deal when you came in and we need to hit it hard right now because there may be a couple years of struggle once we ended up paying this guy trying to figure everything else out. I think in the future. We're GONNA see teams break. Their quarterbacks hearts just like Jameis Winston has happened to James Winston with the Tampa Bay buccaneers. I think we'll see it a lot. More going forward where a player will get drafted. He'll play good football. Not Great football good football for his first contract in the team decided to move forward in that player will have to go play somewhere else. I think that's going to happen on a much more regular basis especially if the tides. Keep turning in this fashion. Where anytime you break off a quarterback it feels. The team doesn't have as much success as it did before. Absolutely and think about it if there's ever a team that's not gonNA have that won't have quarterback around for fifteen or twenty years again. It's the New England patriots. What how how would you have to play on a rookie deal as say you're still yeah? How great would you have to play for the next two or three years for them to give you one of these quarterback deals like never give you one of those deals Auto Denver so well keep to Lebron Rob Niche have told us that the way those go is? We don't care what you've done last year we just want to. We're betting on what you're going to do next year. What if Steph was just hitting his prime and they think the next year is going to be even better than it was before they can have to pay him moral bill belichick somehow and that conversation telling him he's lucky he's even getting offered a half of a half a million dollar contract which is basically what how? I think those conversations go. I mean we still could go in there. Play pretty well. He'd say. Hey coach arm in the open market. I can get five years hundred fifty mill and bills like okay. That's cool Well we are going to offer you two years seven million dollars with incentives and it could get up to seven point five. So that's how good you are. I wouldn't go out there. That offer will fall through whoever you think is giving it to you. That's where you are right now and he'll probably sign it. Every player for team was better. Fucking football don't you stay here have so much fun. You can't handle it and make a lot less money and we're just GONNA win. Find Your Brazilian supermodel. You can say if you win. You can do everyone though man. It's true I give the Patriots credit like you're winning. You can't really argue with the way they're going about it just not gonNA happen ever again. Never not can't happening. It's almost impossible. We'll see patriots fans man. It's it's there's always the chance of Bella check just spouts. Twelve wins such huge chance. Not that huge but it is a chance that it happens and that would be a shame but if next year they're seven and nine eight nine and seven and then the year after that again they're like nine and seven eight then the year after that somebody gets hurt. Maybe they're five an eleven. You know what happens if that's the Patriots Fan. We as a society are pump to watch if that does happen but also we have lived through a time where they have been nothing but successful for the last. What Twenty Years? So if their success continues. I guess we'll be able to manage as well but they're going to be louder than they've ever been if they go and win without Tom Brady. It'll be amazing to hear. I mean I can't write him off. I can't sit here and say the Patriots aren't going to be any good but also another quarterback I wanted to think about for the Patriots. Possibly drafting what about Jordan Law that a Utah state big tall athletic dudes alive arm? They probably would have to move up a little bit in the first round the game but I could see them getting a little excited about Jordan. What about Julian Adam? And then what about them? Join THEM IN. Live arm spirits athlete. Put Him a quarterback. He knows the offense. Those you offense. Yep Excuse me J.

"I think? He slid into like a bronze medal in Brazil. We didn't win. We didn't win the Gulf now. Justin rose that. Where's he from England? All come on. That guy doesn't even know our table tennis team. It looks legendary by our table. Tennis team has shot unless they give front Kellyanne drew. They do have shut elaborate choice. They're all wearing the The dodgeball uniforms. You always have a shot. When we were dodgeball. Uniforms average joes. These are these are T. That's our that's our table tennis team. Yeah next year. They'll be playing table tennis against the rest of the world that might as well be a winter Olympic sport. I feel like it doesn't matter indoors. Tennis TABLE TENNIS TABLE INDOORS. I agree on site called Ping Pong. Yeah do you call corner bags in Ohio? It's absolutely cornhole one hundred percent. Okay Yeah you're right you're right. The bags are filled with corn. And they put him in a whole therefore it is cornhole easy. I don't know how to put with his bags. Microwaves squirrels you eat them. Yeah screw might. What does Shawn Watson Pat? He's liking tweets or something about bill. O'brien going into New England. Yeah I liked the tweet about going into England somebody joking tweet about bill. Belichick watching this all happened down there with the Texans and saying all he's coming here. He liked that tweet and then he also quoted emotionless by drake which is basically saying. You don't know yeah. I don't know how to make it out of here clean. Oh can't even keep track of who plays for the other team iconic duo's rippin split it seemed ha goodhearted men. Doing something is the next line being real mean. No no something though. The next line though says goodhearted Ben like making a bad decision of some sort. I forget how he words it and I think that's what he might have been referring to Billy Brian. Trade Deal Andrey options good art amendment. A bad situations think. That's what he was referred to. Yeah I mean it's weird weird like the fact that people we report on things that people read tweet and like on twitter and instagram. It's a weird time I think. Wow that's how you got to get to the bottom of storage these days and people won't tell the media anything YOU GOTTA. Watch what they're doing in private. What you do in dark will come to light. And if you're liking tweets in those those tweets are messaging from your brain that you can't say we're here to report it. That is our job at McAfee. Hawk sports talk. He liked the tweet by Tyler. Conway that says I'm just saying you could do better tell me. Have you heard that lately? Which is another drake quote and its Bill. Belichick on a phone on the sideline which is a legal but Shawn Watson liked the tweet which means the Shawn Watson found that comical. Does that mean to Shawn Watson wants to be a New England patriot. We'll never know at least for another year. But what is this Shawn Watson? Houston Texans look like going forward without his number one weapon imbroglios stage born and good luck. He's gotta be upset. The fact they brought Randall COBB. In which good what? David Johnson's the running back. Now heels revive his career they better hope that they can ground and pound as you say and then let let the sean uses athleticism and push the ball down the field and randall still as pointed an equal plenty of juice left. I feel like so you lose one of the most dynamic iconic receivers in the league though that you willingly traded away. That was for a bag of balls and doesn't understand the bill O'Brien Andrei Hopkins Saga. That's kind of gone on the what. They're the allegations that have been made Audrey Hopkins teammate. Speak and everybody else. Seems like he is like the model citizen like the model teammate. That raises everyone's level around him. He's a great dude. And you know in that Receiver Room Pat if you're number. One Stud player is onboard. He's a good influence. It has a gigantic impact on that team. Massive news massive news. I got a chance to watch. Reggie Wayne. Obviously with T. Y. Hilton Reggie had Marvin then. Ty became that guy that wide receiver. Rome is one where you need a guy that can lead by example in there. That is something you really need. Because wide receivers always very athletic always very talented have always kind of relied on their athleticism and in the NFL. It doesn't always work like that in the NFL. You have to be able to run good. Routes you have to put in the extra work with your quarterback you have to go to the judge machine you have to be able to read a Defence. You have to do a lot of things in in that position. It's not always something. That is a desire job so whenever you see you know who's very very good you see like okay. That's how this works. I gotta continue to do that. And I think that is a valuable resource to have on your team now. Granted the cardinals. Now have Larry Fitzgerald and Andrea Hopkins. I mean that is a wealth of riches for the Arizona Cardinals and Calamari and Cliff Kingsbury. But what the Texans. It's like. I don't know what the hell they do going forward. I have no idea what they do. Good Ted injured. I interviewed Ted. Ginn junior this morning and I am a euro teammates with him. I I would like Ted ginn junior to be on the colts. I would like Tekken junior to be on the packers. I was like Ted ginn Jenner to be on the Patriots Chat. Maybe the Texans I want to see Ted. Ginn have great success next year. That guy was awesome this morning. All those teams make a lot of sense but when you mentioned the Patriots I guess I didn't think about it until now they could get ted on a relatively cheap deal one or two years and the dude can still fly. We know that can still stretch the defense and open some things up but seems like a no brainer for the Patriots is go out there and kind of get a value signing and Ted Ginn. I agree and by the way Ted Ginn. I'm he said I'm not Jason Rings a much acing money I just want to play ball man us. WanNa Play Bull. GotTa respect your. He's been in fourteen years now. Thirteen next year. It'll be as fourteenth. He was an awesome interview. He was an awesome it. I've had to punt in before. He was a nightmare. A nightmare whenever. He's back there because he was just faster than everybody was now play with ten college. I watched him take plenty of kickoffs back and punt at anytime in the stadium. Would we when you have like an electric returner and the opposing team is putting in your team? Receiving the whole crowd like. There's this weird planner nervous anxious energy that builds up with the whole crowd. Like all right man. Give him give him a chance. They'll put it out of bounce in the dudes could make thirty people missing score. You should feel that what it's like to on the other side of that John. I played against Hester. I think my first game ever in my life I think has took the kickoff. For a touchdown he may have taken a punt back on us to jogging on the field. Though in the returners on right in the returner just does one of these to the crowd right. The whole crowd is like damn right now. It's fucking showtime pal. Get that Pun off in watches and go to work tyreek Hill Antonio Brown. There's another why would you ever punt to any of those guys? That's what I said and the other show. Was You punch out of bounds? When it's a guy like that who cares? We'll get up to ten or twelve yards middle linebacker. Just run through the offensive line and blow up every single run like. Why don't you guys do that? Because then they'll just hit a little pop password over the top in the middle. Oh is that right. No I'm about Troy Pall Mall reading the snap. Count blowing up the offensive line and tackling quarterback or the running back before the players and get started once..

"He is currently a free agent excited to see where he ends up at. The last three years he was with the saints he was with the Panthers at one point. The forty niners the cardinals dolphins where he was. The number nine overall pick story say he ran a four to two in college. Ladies and Gentlemen Ted Ginger was so hey we're reading through your resume it. There's no way this is accurate you've played the NFL as a wide receiver for thirteen years about to be fourteen. You'd never made a pro bowl. Never met a Probo Kanta sleeping on you know. I still got the better end of your longevity. I take it all day over You know going to a pro ball here near and be sitting at home on my couch. I say hundred percent. I just want to let you know. I don't like that. The people that disrespected you ted. I had to punt to you one time and I've never been more scared in my life. You and Tyreek Hill absolute nightmare staff the punt a ball to you because we know with the drop of a dime. You're from the ticks to the other side line. No problem at all. You're an absolute nightmare up. I didn't know you were a d. Back to at one point and your High School State Championship. He had like eight picks or something like five senior year. I did not know that. Yeah you know I was clearly here. four Number one deficit back in the country Automatic a game that that was like my my my heart my deal right there. I was a DB. You know As you can see throughout my career. We're my father pushed outlet but DVD's you know a winner while Shah added more Justin Hardy and the numbers go on you know and that's just like what we would we be. Would we believe but what I would hire. Stated you know with me being a quarterback my whole life and Being a playmaker that I was you know a phone myself. Just gravitated office aside. We'll have guys like your boaty. Dustin Fox said that's a winner. Ej Underwood at a time at Ohio. Stated Chris Chris Gamble has just left so A lot of good guys. So you know at that time. It was just off fits in I was supposed to go back over but I started making my name so I say I stayed put Ted you are. I mean. Thirteen years into this thing still one of the fastest dudes in the NFL. At what year or has it ever happened where you thought you couldn't get by like is there. Has that happened recently? If you had to change your game or do you still think you can float right by dudes if you have to still slow for sure I will never. I would never give any guy out there. The dog that I can't go past. Oh my God I that. Oh yeah you know. I'm getting up there but you know they'll be with with the game has changed. You know where you know. You have to use your speed when you can you know? As as I part of my years you know I just thought being a blazer was the deal in your narrow. Angie's run a bag is now porno triple into rows in different things like that and as I got older Got Around guys like Ricky Parole. Curtis Johnson and the walls. You know and you know my gain just has evolved last like five or six years just by being able just to settle down not really worrying about district. Gains Grinders playing football. It feels like that. Saints Offense Sean. Payton and drew brees if those two are together. It's always going to be successful. Obviously Michael Thomas a guy that you know very well kind of lit up the boards your down there as well. What is it about that offense that makes it so successful? When is Sean Payton and drew? Brees what did they bring to your game? That made you an even better play in a more elite player. I'm always gonNA call them or Google that one or two best. Tanos I ever been around. You know. Far cogen quarterback in the regular relationship has whether they put the time in to push that deal. I will never see it again. You know ups but You know you learn and you see Danes carrying on and it's a Brotherhood honors a different type of cultures the sanctuary down their medical. Do things in a way to do. You normally don't do things at in different areas you know that was my Fifteen Always on in you know. I felt like a rookie at sometime. You know I felt like a to a two year guy so tired. I would've never expected that answer from anybody that those two roles that it's kind of like a broad brushed it gets painted when wide receivers in returners. It's like hey there about the mount balls. They can get their about the amount of money they can get their about this type of thing Ted. You've played for thirteen years. "Did let's go ahead and move on from one old man to another the stock about tied in Antonio gates. I know Tom to Lesko came out and said that he thinks gates has more touchdowns in him. And I know people are clinging to that thinking gates is going to be back. But look look just look at the facts here this team decided last year that Intel new gates couldn't help them. And the only thing that brought him back was the fact that hundred Henry got hurt with Heinrich coming back this year and Virgil green being blocking tight end. This team is in a position where they need to find another young tight end because Henry's another guy who has not played a full season since he's been in the NFL and his contract is up after this year. So they need to make a decision on him. I expected to keep him. But I also expect them to look to bring in somebody through the draft. Maybe in the middle rounds who they can develop behind him as a blocker and receiver. So I think they're going to make the same decision. They made last off season. I think it's pretty clear watching gates. Oh, he said a career high for three games without a target this season. Had I think eleven games with three or fewer catches the season. He was largely invisible showed up against the chiefs. Of course who doesn't show up against the chiefs. And look good another spots. But I mean, he's old and he's slow and they just need to get younger at that position. And it's time to move on. All good things come to an end eventually and this will too. So it's just time to move on from the hall of Famer. And I think he probably winds up paying them up. I know he said he wanted to play one more season. But my guess is if they move on he will also move on and not want to go somewhere else and start over with a new team. I mean, we went through this last off season. And again, I think it's time to move on from gates hunter Henry the starter, obviously. And to be honest, I think outside of green they have a true chance to get an impactful tied in the draft. Like, you mentioned I haven't gone in-depth on these guys yet. But just watching college football on Saturday. There should be a lot of good tight end prospects worth grabbing in the Strath especially in the middle rounds. So I would not resign gates. And again, I think like last year the team won't resign gates, and I think you're looking towards the draft when you're looking at. Another tight on this roster. Another young one who can play behind hundred Henry who has been injured quite often throughout his career. So you do need a backup plan and Virgil green in it. We saw Virgil green had his chance and proven to be nothing..

"Antonio gates has meant to the chargers or the tight end position in the NFL over the last fifteen years. It looked like it's hall of fame career was over at the end of last season. But with hunter Henry's injury. The chargers brought him back. Now, he'll try to help lead his team to a place. He's never been the Super Bowl. I asked him this week about the journey that's gotten him and his teammates here. I'm to here. So. All of the. Now, there's older razor. Out there. My last three years. So being in the postseason was always a goal of ours. That's just one step goes on the ship. And we're in the right direction. The right time to get that accomplished. You saw this team not very long ago, and they frustrated you guys offensively. What were they able to do? So effectively that took you as an offense off your game. Every time. Guys that they? All countries. Always. To me. That's always been the cornerstone. There's no different this year. Us. It's just a bottomless doing what was Bill football. On what they do. Just have to be efficient and determine what we do to try to get the changes when there's so much that you have accomplished. And I don't think there's anybody who doubts. The fact that one day you're going to be in canton, Ohio one of the things that you'd love to accomplish. I'm sure is to be able to advance get to the Super Bowl. How important is that to you emotionally now at this point in your life think my mom? My mom, cried lasting. Coming to you come into the undrafted were created. Door. Great thing. Triple commerce. Tumor commerce versus where I lack. Don. Opportunity to test. Happen to be able to be a little tabby. And it'd be a champion at any level to support a lot about our workers on that was my goal coming back. Really had opportunity that wasn't. Oh. Position goal is still. You and Philip rivers or hand in hand in chargers history in the minds of many football fans. I look at that relationship. The fact that you guys have been on the same page for so long. And you know, when there's a moment that he needs something, it seems like he's always looking your way. How is that relationship? Been for you over the years. What does it mean to you? As a junior. What you see? There's a lot of home commitment for one another holding each other to a high standard still being assessed with finishing solar things when I talk about. Things that correlates more sodium anything because we're so different in a way from different places different backgrounds. But I think we'll we you know, we we're saying that is those aspects of warned the beat a best Mckee. Ten about your teammates, caring about certain aspects of how we need to get this win. And I think that's what you've seen over the years. Two guys with a tough news of grit, most employer session to finish and win. That's what you see in over the years. More touchdown catches than any tight end in NFL history and those one hundred sixteen or more than any active player eighty nine of those touchdowns thrown by Philip rivers. Well, look, I'm offended by the phrasing of the question that Whitlock, obviously frightening. He let me look on us. As you say when you invite me, you invite mob behavior, and guess what? That is. I'm gonna let y'all know I don't know anybody else. So and helped me that has ever retired from the game top three by the numbers at their position. And was not a first ballot Vanisi football hall talk to you right down. So so guess what? I get it. "Five. So he's talked thirty all time. That's a pretty long career. Like, I said, he's probably a hall of Famer. I don't think I Bala go DJ thirteen years in the league. He was a twelve time pro bowler. That's pretty good. And he didn't. When you get all that free, publicity, not bad how plus he's going to have some Super Bowl rings. I would imagine if he played with Deb. No, no, no, no, no, no rings for champ. That's ironic. A guy named champ championships champ. Yeah. You know, boys? Definitely a hall of Famer, you know, there's no question there. Like, I'm questioning whether or not London Fletcher is even a hall of Famer, right? Yeah. And the question was puffing her passing on them as first ballot. But champ is kind of borderline for you. It's close now after reviewing it a little bit. I would say probably I I wouldn't have a problem if he was the first ballot all of him. I wouldn't have a problem if he wasn't either but Ed Reed because when you think of the safety position in the NFL during that era. Ed Reed was the cream of the crop might be the best safety in NFL history. I mean, that's how good he was as far as free safeties go he wrote the damn book on it. And then, you know, Tony, Gonzaga. I mean, seriously like Tony Gonzales what top three. Haydn's ever. Yeah. I mean, you might be hammering him gronk and Antonio gates. Maybe is that your top three sharp goes in, Shannon. Sharpe. Kellen Winslow was pretty damn good as well. Mike ditka. Hey dicko. Good. But especially that era. Yeah. Eight OJ Novacek in their brand Jones. Want to go way back. John mackey. Yeah. Good. Call. Good call. Yeah. I mean, you know, there's been some good ones. But you know, you can't say you can't talk about the greatest tight ends in NFL history without talking about Tony Gonzales hall of Famer first ballot. No doubt on that. I show. All right. We'll move onto a guy who will end up in the baseball hall of fame someday. And that's Mike trout. Probably. In fact, not probably almost definitively the best player in the game today. And there was a report today from John Hayman over at CBS sports that the angels will reportedly try and sign Mike trout to a lifetime contract this off season. And you know, you can weigh in on whether trout is deserving or not are you puffing her passing on the idea of lifetime contracts in general from either from either position, whether it's your the team offering it or the athletes signing it and how does that work? Exactly. Is it just we're gonna pay you X amount of dollars per year for as long as you want to play the only other lifetime contract. I can think of isn't even with a. Team. It's LeBron James's lifetime contract with Nike. And and I would I guess it would be similar to that. With the angels acting as the Nike. That's the best idea. I can come up with. Yeah. I just I I wonder what the language of that contract would be because you know, how do you decide a you know, what he gets paid every year? Is there an annual increase? Does it go up five percent every year? How does that work when would the contract and now a lifetime contractor? You know, are you paying me after I retire? Do I decide when my career is over? Is it is it depending on me making the team like how does that work? And I don't think my trial be the kind of guy that will just continue to play just to cash a check. But I mean, you know, if you're paying a guy twenty million dollars a year, whatever trout's gonna make some ridiculous amount of money. Probably even more than that thirty million a year. I mean who knows? Boy, that's a lot of cheese for the angels. I think that the longer the contract. The more likelihood that it has an unhappy ending for the team that signs the player. I mean, it's it's a great deal for trout. I mean, if you want to be tied to the to the Anaheim angels for the rest of your life. So be.

"Moving along to a couple of other draft were the handcuffs or maybe not also Mettler backup in Los Angeles. And by the way they did wave Justin Jackson, their seventh round pick out of northwestern to make room running back for Antonio gates on the roster yesterday at gore seems to be the clear cut guy now to replace Melvin Gordon Matthew. If something were to happen there. Yeah, I mean, and at a guy that's going to be used regardless like, so if if you're a like, you know, we're all in a sixteen team league, the celebrity a fourteen team league. So in deeper PR leagues of which both those leagues are. You could see equa having some flex of some flexibile and standalone value even without Melvin Gordon, it's weird because you know they're certainly not similar players in terms of their build. Sure. But it does seem like that last year when Gordon was would miss time or would be banged up. They would go with that cler and I believe he he would get the majority of the work should something happen to Melvin Gordon. So I do think Austin actor is somebody that sort of, you know somebody that is definitely worth rostering, especially if you have Melvin Gordon another guy and field. I know in the league you and I are in or at least one of the league's we're into gather. You have Todd Gurley, and you also took John Kelly, which I completely agree with. Yeah, I agree right there. John Kelly as a player that like Austin, Ecuador, probably isn't the backup because of his ability. It's merely because the player in front of him, whereas the other running backs that our backups because they don't deserve true backups, not it's. They are just their second train or worse or. Lesser running backs, but John Kelly really impressive rookie out of Tennessee ran well during the preseason. And we talked about this. What happens? You know, we don't want an avenue Todd Gurley, but if that happens, John, John Kelly could just be in for massive upside. I just think it's so tough with a waiver wire in terms of trying to get certain players. And and so honestly, I am pro handcuff, right? If you've used an early round, pick on a guy and you think there's a, it's it's fairly clear who the guy would be if something were to happen to your starter so and you think there'd be reasonable chances. I think you have to have until we talked about James, and we talked about John Kelly mentioned Austin actor, mentioned, chase, Edmunds in Arizona, backing up David Johnson, I have Joe mixing and a lot of teams, and I've taken Giovanni Bernard in a bunch of them that when mixing was out last year. I mean, it's really just the two of them. Like I think Bernard would get the majority of work if something were to happen to Joe mixon and also add in this one, go back and forth. And I'm curious what you guys think. On this Chris ivory who's currently backing up with Shawn? McCoy news came out Leshan McCoy's gonna start week one as the investigation continues for him. Do you think Chris ivory would be successful behind that offensive line on that? I think he would be the guy if something were to happen the Leshan McCoy he was not able to play, but I don't know how much excess he would have because hint shady, I think it's not someone I would roster this point by point. Again, like that not every handcuff is created right. Every handcuff is a must roster. We why I feel as though Chris ivory is part of that don't need to draft them, pick him up if you need to later on in the season Matthews about being smart fan. Well, I just have to read about it the honest, you know me and tell us, listen, I'm half of that. I'm half of that. You know what we've got this cool thing going on now. So it's called smart as fan of the week, and it is brought to you by our friends at ZipRecruiter. So now, yes. What is the smartest fan of the weeks to find you? Tell me about it. Matthew. It's a simple. You see, I say, you asked me what's the smartest right of the week, and then you're supposed to say the week..

"Yeah yeah so it's a tough position group to fill yeah tight end said you're like an eight wins this is one of the worst graybeards oh far seeing shake you down we're gonna finish strong tight end antonio gates and julius thomas gates were kind of sneaking in there he'll probably end up on the chargers for one more year but he gives me a guy in the red zone that knows how to play the game antonio gates just gets open greg julius thomas used to get open gates is my favorite player on your team and he's the oldest and he's probably the only one that's actually going to be on a team and he's gonna fill the seats and san diego that's who you want that's a hollow eight antonio that might be the first guy to go into the hall of fame with graybeards helmet because he's loyal sandra go i did not even think of that he's going god he's going on the media guide yeah right on the cover and mark say i was there for the last the last game and professional football game in san diego and they were going crazy for antonio gates intimidating him breaking the all time touchdown that's right he brings the people out we have a lot of problems on the offense mike god i mean and you have to understand this is why this exercise is extremely difficult because i would say seventy percent of the teams in the nfl have crummy offensive limes line so you can only imagine what's going on on the free agent pile so i have a former number two overall pick greg robinson on the blindside loop jokiel the former number two overall pick.

"Philip rivers threw a touchdown pass the antonio gates melba gordon ran for a score the chargers keep their playoff hopes alive a fourteen to seven win over the jets on sunday in the metal lands here is the path jump in for you gregg give you a little blow give the motema blow place go give you the baby a great first lady to go take it up one goal low in your video games yeah exactly anyway the charges get in to get a win against the raiders and then they need wins by the jaguel jaguars over tennessee and then the ravens over the bank so to hattrick but not exactly a miracles are needed in any of those cases of the charges have a very clear path and my my thought about this game specifically as yes all those things need to happen but the charges really need to focus on themselves because i thought for the second straight week are they delivered a flat performance i didn't see any of counter the magic that we'd seen for about two months prior to that chiefs game and it makes you wonder if the chargers have peaked already of the season and there if they'll be able to take care of business next week i don't know we'll see so that was my thought on this game that they didn't really against the jets team that is a mediocre team in general or worse i think they've lost eight of nine now by the way the five and ten and playing without mo wilkerson and josh mccown embraced petty is one of the very worst quarterbacks in the league right now this should have been an easy win for a team a team that was desperate for victory and yet the jets are knocking on the door in the final couple minutes of the game with a chance to tie the game billy powell ran all over the charges.

"They were forced feeding antonio gates because they wanted to get him the touchdown record do you and there's the the talk of well we're going to use them a little bit less buds three tony win the numbers but we will bring him in four goalline red zone work d do still feel the same van antonio gates sat there sunday we said about when they tried to throwing the ball in zone he would catch it for a touchdown work like now in there after year look if there was a different quarterback at filbert wasn't a quarterback in los angeles i have far more concerns behind tony gates making actual contributions fantasy wise this year but it's hard teach an old rivers nutrients what what week did antonio gates get the the record tied at the last week of the season he really it he did i just think that he's at one of those undervalued players last year his adp was 9o six whereas he this year to add on is the undrafted brooks he's not see that in their deal he's undrafted undrafted in both standard and ppar leagues yo i love him in best ball i would say that's my favorite format him because they could see i could see a making contributions every third week but it might be to the tune of two or three touchdowns in a single game where just works out that way i like henry but the volume wasn't there from last we're not going to move completely away what you put the over on your on touchdowns for antonio gates acir who the over under i would put it at six and a half agassi said adding that if i give you the number seven what do you do right now tough if you give me seven said step i want to call for the push the.
