His parrot started yelling at him in the middle of the night last night. And what could only be described as one of the creepier. Scarier things. Ever imagine being a woken in the middle of the night by a parrot screaming Anton Anton. Anton What? Anton Anton. What? Pants on Freaking nightmare. Right measure animals screaming at you only in a dream. Except this happened. And it turns out that that nightmare was actually when Anton rolled out of the rack because that bird woke Antawn up. Anton Anton Watch on and on. The reason the bird was screaming. Is Anton woke up and realized that there was smoke. It was smoke in the back of his home. There was smoke because the house was on fire. No man Anton runs downstairs. Grabs the bird gets the hell out of the house. This is not a dog barking. This is Anton talking, or I should say the bird talking. Anton Anton. Why? Smoke. I don't know. Maybe just screamed his name but apparently screamed his name Enoughto wake him up. Which is an amazing story. An amazing story because apparently the bird the bird is in fact, a smoke detector. The bird detected the smoke. Ah, minute before the smoke alarm. So not good news for the smoke alarm in industry, but great news for the parent community..

Its second to last season like you. I was a big fan of breaking bad. It was intrigued when they spun off. Better Call Saul but I kept my expectations. Low through four seasons now on fascinated by Jimmy MacGill's moral descent into Saul Goodman and find his character just as fascinating as Walter white thoughts. I feel the exact same way but I haven't watched it yet because I started watching it and then I miss a season so I fell behind. Now I'm just going to wait until it's done and been watched the whole thing but oh here's good things about I think yeah I think Jimmy McGill has surpassed Walter White terms of the complexity as a carrier. Yeah the what they've gone into Jimmy. It's it's fascinating man to see how natural his dissent has been into Seoul Goldman because coming into it. That's what I thought it was going to be Saul Goodman all the way then it was gonna be more comedic but now it's it's it's a bit more serious. It's a bit more dramatic and yes. I'm getting so annoyed seeing like previews and let let little skits on the Internet better call soul and scenic where they are but meet not knowing where they are and how they got there. I think after season for its invented itself. It's on the same level as breaking bad. You can debate which one is better. But it's it's in it's in the conversation without a doubt I want just catch up. I watched the first few seasons. Organza season two then. I stopped for a while so five to go back. I watch everything so I might do that. After the season it's worth yeah it's really worth. There's so many in breaking bad where you think. "Does a joke okay. There's no need to turn to your table and be like that's so true one time. Remember when you were at the store check no no no. Here's how comedy show works. Comedian onstage says joke. You Laugh at jokes then you shut up and listen for next Joe and listen for life. There is no thing where you turn back conversation that that that gets annoying The check drop is the most notorious thing in comedy that comedians. Hey we hate the check drop. That's that's when that's when the show is about ten fifteen minutes away from ending and The comedy club has to cash everybody out. So they put the Czechs down for all your drinks and food and then because then people are no longer paying attain. There must be a distract. Some clubs are great. There's this club called the stress S. factory in New Brunswick New Jersey and they don't do the backdrop until the end of the show. They wait a couple of clubs. Do that but Yeah when that happens because then you have conversations conversations. People turning like what two drinks is twenty five blocks not manager. You got that whole thing so I literally have a pardon my act. That's more story driven and long form and not bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-ba not rapid fire for the check. Drop so you can Dan tune out for a second interesting back in. I've literally put it in there and things like that. Like people don't realize the COMEDIANS are doing. I'm sure there's a million things in wrestling where we go like. Oh Shit fight in the crowd and no one's watching the Matt born rules just put somebody in a hold. Oh yes they're not watching awesome anyways the you'll always see like like Nassau Coliseum or something there's fights in the other all the time on TV. You're supposed to look in this way. Everyone's looking over there. Yeah I was wondering about that. 'cause I just watched a w fight for the fallen and There was I forget what match. There's something where the crowd was booing and and then cheering but not for like the pot the time when someone needs sense. Yeah it didn't make sense at all and I think even even the announcer Said something like they're not reacting to this crowd and I'm sitting there going what's happening in the crowd and shoot it. Yeah Yeah yes and then Obviously the wrestlers then become aware that they go all right headlines Ako wrestling headlock exactly. Yeah exactly unlock. Yeah do you guys when you hear. You're the crowd do something like that like you're conscious of it. You're only where was supposed to be in like when you're on stage and you know everything that's going on career. Obviously we were in the round but still I can tell what's going on I can tell the people are into the sides of paying attention if they're looking over here looking over there waiting for something else to go on. Yeah so oh you got to learn how to read. Your crowd is what you get with experience and that goes for comedy. It's crowded analysis. If people knew what I was thinking about during my my set it would boggle their minds. Because I'm thinking I'm not just thinking about what I'm saying I'm thinking about okay. Like all right wins the check drop. Is that person videotaping That person seems like their their their arms to the whole time. Let me let me try something else to get them in my cursing too much do they did. They say something I'm in about five minutes. I'm going to tell a joke to call it a black guy whereas a black guy you're orchestrating the whole gang's yes which I'm sure whether it be Iraq show wrestling show. You're probably doing something similar for let me ask you. It's especially like a rocket you mentioned the arms trust when you're especially as an opening band you get a lot of arms crossed so for us different ways to be saying to their face urge I contact always makes people very nervous to mother will open up. Yeah what what are your tricks. Comedian and try to get somebody to do that. I contact same thing like like a 'cause there's this illusion that a lot of audience members have that the performer cannot see them. It's this weird thing where it's like. Well I'm in an audience. It's like a movie theater and we can see you. We know we can see your reaction. We see when you cross your arms. We see you when you're turning and even if you're if we can't hear that you're you're talking to a friend. We see that you're doing it so yeah there are and So one thing that I've done one trick and I pass on to a couple of the COMEDIANS. Sometimes sometimes you'll have people talking like like I said like. Oh that's so true. Remember the time when like they'll have a conversation during your set and they're not realizing that they're being too loud or they're they're drunk. Whatever what I'll do is I'll quieter and I'll start talking very slowly and very quiet and not yelling because if I yell over for them? The audience then raises their voice to be heard themselves but if he's talking quiet and they're like and then become self aware and they're like Oh shit like I can hear me very very clearly. No one wants to be that guy at the club. Where like right before the music like the music drops out and that's when you're the one screaming so I got? Everyone fears everyone. Everyone doesn't want to be that person. So yeah the whole Jericho character in two thousand eight nine with a suit and tie guy that I used that element completely. I was watching no country for old men with the Anton Anton. Sugar Bronco Have Your and spoke very quietly and so when I started doing that I found that made. This was in the height. Eight of the what right talking quieter. I'm forcing people to have to shut up and listen to me. And then when they shut up and listen that's when they get into it right and then you then you hook them. Think about like Think similar things happen when you're watching a when you're watching. TV show when when they're having conversation win Game of thrones was did a couple of where they're like really dark and it was hard to see. I paid more attention because I was looking for a little detail. And then that's when I cassette. Because I'd I'd watch the show with all the lights on in the house and stuff going on a phone Zao but like now when it's dark episode and I can't see all lights are off. I'm watching it night. Phones done moans like now paying attention so there are little tricks like that that you can do that will make An audience pay an is pay attention whether rather be comedy a wrestling or yeah or twenty. Whatever I I have to compliment you because I've been watching A. W. O.? I'M A fan. Yes you have got me hooked it. It seems like that age W is for the marks and wwe is like it. You know it's it's like the difference between your kiss. FM Pop music where they're trying to like appealed to everyone they they want. They want People driving their mini vans to school not to be offended event. You have then you flip channels too like the death metal station where they're like we have our fans it is. It was like you said it's an alternative to what's now become the norm and it's nothing wrong with having people giving people a chance to have options absolutely genitive tentative. Great will like you. That are super interesting. Those creating a huge buzz through overselling out these buildings and five ten fifteen minutes. That was gonna stay like that for the next year. I don't know but at least you're giving people something different than you said something and I and say this. I love 'cause when because whenever we talk you asked me about about comedy and I and I and I got to you wrestling Uses a press conference where your promo at five for the fall and was the first time you've walked out there with no script no I I'm in twenty years because I worked for. WBZ So anytime you do not know how shows live events. Non Televised Charts the different thing. Yeah just grab the MIC talking but on TV it's always so very orchestrated in wwe. So this was the first time I didn't have to do that. And even to the point point were. I'm not even GONNA come up with an outline. I'm just GonNa have to things that I want to say in the rest of their. Just make it up as they go along and see if I can do it. Live without a net. Yeah I mean. Have you ever done any Improv. "This process was both very short and very long depending on how you look at it and who you are it could have been a six month process or one on your process or a four year process and now for some tips and tricks and chips and dips up's not really because chips and dips should not be consumed during audio recording unless you were actually recording someone eating chip as a sound effect which we did otherwise otherwise chips gives you mouth noise and dips give you flam which is not recommended for voice acting eat an apple and drink some water. Here are some random tips use for audio. Maker newbies like me some things. I learned some things I did well and some things I'd do differently tip number one record at least three three takes of each scene even when you don't feel like it and your ears are killing you. Three should be the minimum for us. The third take was almost always the best and you'll want several backups in case you need to Frankenstein missing together for master builder. I divided each longer seen into short singlets usually based on entrances and exits. We recorded three takes of each scene. Lit With coaching from me. In between at the end of the third take we recorded any extra sounds. We might need an isolation such as sipping coughing laughing sniffing group laughter group applause etc tip number two. It's a great idea to record all the actors making all those sounds so record all of them laughing in several ways breathing sighing gasping humming sniffing sleeping harrumphing eating drinking and crying. It's best if they do those during the scenes but it's good to have them record all of the effects again later later basically record all vocalisations with breath that the actors could possibly make it is odd how much you need those to insert in the Post Production Chin dialogue gaps tip number three this tip is for the eating and drinking scenes for at least one take record the actors actually eating and drinking while saying their lines now your recording studio might have feelings about this so check with them. My experience was that if you retroactively add eating sounds inbetween between clean lines. It seems like some random person is in the room eating a snack and watching the show. It's really creepy tip number number four do not look as a director whatever you do don't look at the actors while they are recording the scene as a director. It's essential essential to only listen through your headphones. Allow yourself no visual feedback. The scene will sound completely different when you are watching and you'll be able to monitor for more nuanced tones of voice and identify confusing bits and inconsistencies in the script you might be surprised by how much information formation we receive through non verbal visual cues so an example of that would be a shrug if I can see you. Shrug is a pretty clear answer to a question Russian if I can't see you. Shrug sounds like nothing. Maybe a clothing shift mostly. It sounds like you didn't hear the question or you aren't answering the question at all. It's easier to catch those non verbal response gaps if you're listening without watching and if you want to add in a verbal shrug that could sound like I know that many audio dramas record remotely in the actors don't perform in the room together but for now at least I prefer my actress to be able to look at each other and that they come in with their scripts mostly memorized so they aren't reading that way. The text is there for reference in. It's not a crutch they can look up and connect with each other and that seems to make a big difference tip number five for recording time more is better with the exception -ception of two of my people the cast of masterbuilder had already rehearsed and performed this piece on stage so they were coming in strong and ready and we'd also had add two or three rehearsals prior to the recording days so we could move with a purpose when we really got in front of the Mike's even so. I wish I had scheduled more recording time. I scheduled eight hours and used ten hours. Thank you actors. Thank you chatterbox studio and in retrospect. I wish I'd actually scheduled twelve hours of recording time spread over three days with an extra day scheduled for pickups and some Foley work is scheduled no time for pickups yikes. Luckily my actors were really solid. We didn't need to go back and re record but that could have been a huge problem tip number six. Give everyone a break not not just the talent in my giant. Excel spreadsheet I scheduled breaks for the actors but no breaks myself my audio engineer or my. PA so by the end of each recording day I thought I was going to throw up from listening so intently for so many hours without a break. Do not do that to yourself. If you're the director and do not do that to your staff some other things that I would do differently from the beginning and these are things that I plan to do differently as I start working on my next audio drama number one create a floor plan. It turns out that despite being an oral medium you and your sound designer and your actors need to know the layout of the room or the place where the action is taking place. You need to know where the doors are. Where the people are you still need a set design and general blocking for the action in order order for it to make sense number two. I would build the sound world ahead of time and in tandem with preparing for the recording days. I think it would have been more proficient to run the process less linearity. I thought of it in terms of one step in the next in the next in other words. I had to hear the voices before before building the world. A better choice could have been to amass the sound world either ahead of time or simultaneously with the rehearsals recording days and to be working composers from the beginning to set the tone number three release the whole thing at once. If I could go back in time time I would release the entire masterbuilder audio drama at once rather than waiting a week in between episodes especially because they were only two. It's my hunch inch that people are really into the netflix model of binging on an entire season in a weekend so if there's a delay in the release dates you may lose listeners and they're listening momentum so today is September Eighteenth Twenty nineteen eighteen when I'm recording this episode and I can tell you that masterbuilder audio drama has been listened to all over the world and in most of the United States our download numbers creep up every day as a theater maker. It's been very difficult to be patient with listeners getting around to finding finding the time to sit down and listen when he's alive event like theater audience members feel a sense of urgency to show up on one night because if they don't they miss it with something evergreen and lasting like an audio drama that sense of urgency disappears so it feels like there's a constant need to stay in front of potential attention listeners and remind them and keep reminding them that the audio drama is waiting. I literally cannot say enough about our word delightful and talented sound designer edith snow who painted an awesome oral picture to support the narrative and who was very patient with me the actors and knocked the voice acting out of the Park Penny Miles wrote original music that lends mood and legitimacy due to the whole dramatic endeavor and is the music. You've been hearing throughout this episode. Our whole team was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better group of people. masterbuilder felt like an exhausting and exhilarating adventure in a brand new artistic medium like most things it was a lot got more work than I thought it would be. It took a lot more time than I thought it would take and it was a lot more fun than I ever imagined. Thanks for listening. Hey friends. I'm excited to announce that our second full length. Audio drama is in development. The New Colossus is an original adaptation of Anton Anton Chekhov's classic play the Seagull and it's GonNa be amazing. We have cast. We have a team. We have a script and recording days and we are rolling. I'm asking you to support in the audio. Drama and artists please.

"So a lot of yet. It's a ritual for a lot of photographers, I talked to because it's it's if you're on an adventure like that you'd back to back to the hotel room in care of all that stuff and then go out to dinner in me. Exactly. Right. Exactly. That's that's the flow. So, you know, that's amazing. You know, we were talking about that in the green room before we started the interview about how technology has allowed downsizing and doing a lot more in upping production quality with a lot less gear. Right. Karen? You're feeling it with the Fuji cameras and near Liz, Anton, you're feeling with small drones in meritless cameras in all that being able to go anywhere in. Actually, create the story when you guys came back. Karen, we'll start with you. When you guys came back to the US was what was your deliverable to each other? Can was it just, you know? Okay. I'm gonna post process all these amazing images and drop them on dropbox. And here's a script that Anton gave me read it. And then I'm done or was it more collaborative and you guys sitting in a room together sort of walking through the process. Well, so both because we get so this is how Anton does the voiceover part. Which is you know, this long interview. We did I think it was like ninety minutes wasn't it something like that out of that out of that? She this is this is it just blows my mind, how he pulled this thread that he'd put in the film out of all that Jaber Javer that we went through and he wrote up a script, and we made a little studio in closet. You know, I I did voiceovers professionally, you know, he's done a lot of this. We knew how to kinda pad. This thing up to sound is, you know, not so echoey in voice anyway, you have supervisor. Yeah. But you know, audio is the hardest thing to do. In the field. I think really good audio. That isn't like base loaded echoing you can't hear it. So. Yeah. So I was able to do that. And and, but we did it in we recorded it in this little space that we made. And then so he had that story and I had seen that. So I knew I knew what he was seeing. I knew in terms of the story line in the thread. So then there were two or three places on location that he'd say so talk about this. You know, and I knew when he said that I knew where in his story that would fit. So then it became alright if we had recorded by then, but I knew kind of the tone would be so I had to sort of match the tone in the field was tone recorded in the closet studio. So that the whole thing could be edited together later without a lot of fuss and muss in retakes. Anton. Anton, visit your recollection of the processes. Well. Absolutely. You know, that's my process. I'll interview the photographer Karen princes on Skype or Google hangouts or whatever a month before. And I'll take that ninety minute interview on I'll chop it up in a million pieces, and I'm basically write a script for them. But it's in their words, you know, it was in Cairns worms. I just kind of cleaned it up in may. I took it from ninety minutes to four minutes. You know? Yeah. We made a little sound studio in the closet of the Airbnb at lake bled. And she whipped through it super-quick. You know, that's her background. So she was mazing at it missile. Yeah. That part was produced particular Thome was so easy. And you know, I love that that was really fun because it was totally collaborative because it was a few things. He used my words. But I wouldn't have said it quite that way in that context..

"Com. Just like Anton did Anton Anton love the show belated, congratulations on five hundred episodes. Thanks as the year comes to a close and you start thinking about game of the year nominees. Do you consider excess ability to the game for the gaming community in your decision last breath? The wild one game of the year, and it's a conflicts -clusive. This year's contenders include red Deborah sin to God of war under tale CRC and Spiderman some of these are conflict schools or aren't available yet under tail shit. I don't know. I didn't come out this year. It came out on switch. Yes. For this year should the game of the year. Also be available to the most amount of gamers. Yeah. It's not part of our consideration. It is we try really really hard to make sure the staff gets access stole. Sure. But that's a different. So just be like that's a super eel. It's more of a concern around three or under a lot of time pressure. Like a game of three award often ends up being a mix of the game that the most people got a chance to sort of experience and the highest quality game of the year. We try really really hard. We understand what our game of the year nominees are to make sure that everyone gets time and exposure to all the nominees. Yeah. But no not. But we're not blinking. Well, this game is an exclusive and this one isn't. So the crossbar form game has prior higher priority. Like, no, you know, there are I think about like using human psychology. You could totally have a better chance of getting a game of the year nomination. If you put your game in the summer and press like a bunch of copies because so many more people play it and have memories with. I don't know like you shouldn't game the system that way. But and nobody. He does. Yeah. Like, it's possible. That's I mean, that's the real truth is does game of the year. Always go to the absolute best game released that year. Like, we do our best to play and have champions for everything. I'm gonna give you an example. I haven't played a thrown breaker yet. I'm going to because I love card games and love which is like, you know, I'm gonna find a free weekend dive into it. But like maybe that is absolutely the best game out this year. But like having like Tom shouted about it and convinced enough people to try it yet. And I and I'm willing that example out of my hat like you could find some other game that like, you know, maybe just we haven't gotten, you know, in the hands of dozens of people yet to really realize how amazing it is. I you know, when I ran game of the year that used to keep you up at night the root of that is that it's it's it's a vote, and we do it democratically. And obviously that waits it towards things that people played more. There's nothing like secretive or corrupt about that. That's like if more people play a game. That's always happens with racing right? Everybody plays. Mario kart. So we have to be really careful about choosing a racing game, democratically biting games, people play games or have you?.

"Yeah. Baby. So great piece in the American thinker this morning, again, people are catching onto this. Finally, I want to read to you some snippets about what's going on. And why this will impact your second amendment rights and why it's a template for moving forward. Folks. They are at tacking the electoral process in Florida at the top of the ticket, creating a big a big scene. We need recounts Broward County can't come up with their votes Palm Beach county. You've seen all the coverage. I'm not here to to to get what you can get on on the cable news channels. I'm here to provide to us some stuff you may not hear anywhere else. I want to applaud again FOX for finally for a lot of them covering this story. It's the Ag race. That's the big deal. It has already been stolen of the mad Caldwell. The Republican candidate was a big. Advocate for the second amendment. The democrat Niki freed ran openly against second the second amendment against the NRA. She was leveraging all of her political power to try and attack the second amendment in Florida. And it looks like Nikki freed may pull this thing out because of these eighty thousand votes that has Matt Caldwell acknowledged on FOX and friends this morning just magically appeared now from this piece in the American think of this morning, you may be asking now, although I explained a little bit to you earlier in the week, I'm gonna give you more detail. Now, why does the agriculture Commissioner's race matter? What does that do a lot of you may be confused Joe included because Joe in Maryland who controls it the state police control the second amendment issue? The issuance of what is it see Q ws or something that I h I forget what they're called in Maryland. But the state police controls it, and that's pretty common across the country state police or some licensing service division of. Icing. Not here in Florida. The agriculture Commissioner controls now let me read from the peace quote from the Sobieski PC American thing, which up at this show note read it send it to all your friends say heads up fellas. This is what this is really about. Ladies quote as the Tampa Bay times notes. Florida's unusual in that the Florida agricultural Commissioner. Anton Anton. sherline we rather than the courts or other law enforcement is the entity that regulates and controls things like concealed carry permits. They go on from the Tampa Bay times if it seems unusual for Florida's department of agriculture and consumer services to handle concealed weapon weapons permits. That's because it is unusual. Nearly every other state gives the job to the police or the courts the NRA had lawmakers quietly moved the division of licensing this is from the Tampa Bay times. I've just quoting now they say sound so nefarious quietly moved quietly move, the division of licensing which handles a concealed weapons permit program from the Florida Department of state to the States Department of agriculture in two thousand two so that the program was answerable to an elected official. Here's where it gets interesting freed this is the democrat candidate Joe who's now up in the votes when it looks like a very suspicious set of circumstances. Nikki freed in conjunction with Andrew gillum, the democrat candidate for governor and Sean Shaw the democrat candidate for. Attorney general are pushing the gun control trifecta the elimination of stand your ground banning quote assault weapons and targeting concealed weapons permits. Wow. Folks. What did I tell you? What did I tell you? Well, that is a sucker punch to the goats isn't always isn't it for you You need need that. that. Acitivity puzzlingly is and it hurts. The agriculture Commissioner the democrat now up who is an openly anti second amendment anti NRA disclosure. I work at enter ATV. I don't work for the NRA for the thousand time, but I don't want to create any potential conflicts into your head. Folks. This was always about the concealed weapons permits process. Now, you may say if the democrat Nikki freed, and this very suspicious set of electoral circumstances that she's now quote winning right? I have to put air quotes because who knows if she's winning or not when actual legal votes are counted. Right. If she gets an office, what can she actually do?.
