"Brian. anthony. Davis tony is right next to me in the black and gold delorean as we go back to september of nineteen ninety two the day before labor day. That's when opening week was back in those days before it changed now tony. I'm pretty excited a talk about this game because it was built cowers first game and nobody really thought the steelers were. Don't do anything in this game or in that season whatsoever are right and you mentioned delorean just a second ago and what really first happens. Really a great ride. And i can't wait to see how the second half of the trip unfold in the third quarter. The steelers eight up six eighteen on the astrodome clock and got to the houston. Eight before settling four twenty five yard field goal which cut the houston lead to five. That was gary anderson once again with the three after a turnover on downs. The steelers got another field goal from anderson shack. Parties team led only by a score of twenty four to twenty two in the final quarter. Tony this is when things would finally get really interesting. Moon engineered a twelve play clock devouring drive down to the steelers. Four yard line bill. Cowards debut seemed about to be spoiled but on the thirteenth play of that drive moon was flushed out of the pocket by giral williams and threw up a dying quail that rod woodson that man again plucked from the air and returned fifty seven yards to the houston. Forty four wild tony. Rod woodson saves the day once again. He was the superman for that team for a lot of years in this being his sixth season. My gosh you. Can you see the red and yellow s coming through his white jersey with black numerals. He was my always my favorite player for techmo bowl. Whenever whenever i was steelers and he really was a one man. Show and a lotta games in. This game was another great example and warren moon. I mean this is fourth interception game and i realized one of them was tipped but the other three especially this when it was an absolutely horrible decision and and i guess he was proof positive that there is such thing as week one russ in the nfl because this was not a great day for the legendary passer. Then on first and goal from the nine yard line. O'donnell threaded the needle to rookie adrian cooper from oklahoma for a td cooper was replacing. Standout tight end. Eric green who ended up in a sling early in the first quarter with eight. Oh six remaining. Pittsburgh had its first lead of the game at twenty nine to twenty four. This is absolutely amazing. Fourteen straight points. They are making it happen. Tony few sure are and they had to be feeling pretty good. Everybody had to be feeling pretty. Good steeler nation. You're halfway through the fourth quarter. You're down fourteen nothing early and all of a sudden With just a half a quarter of the play. You're up by five men such. I remember being so excited watching the watching. The the the fourth quarter felt like us. You don't get that excited by for a week. One game but avid super into this game. I was too. And i'm gonna tell you a little bit about that. In just a few minutes moon though was not done and you always worry about this guy whether he was adamant in or whether he was in houston where if he had was in seattle or kansas city or minnesota. This guy was always dangerous when there were less than two minutes on the clock and he really tried to rally his team but his fifth and final interception sealed the game larry griffin again man larry griffin was having a great game. Do his second pick allow the steelers to steal a win in the astrodome and gave the steelers nation. A hope for life. After chuck knoll the jubilant steelers celebrated by administering a gatorade shower too their brand new coach. Man that mustache all tony. Sure did and i remember being so excited in are really that they went into the astrodome and win this game. The way the last two years were for the steelers chuck knoll. You felt like a malays super bowl malaysian seventies kind of carried into the early nineties. But bill bokhara came along with his enthusiasm and is hard nosed demeanor and exciting demeanor and he turned everything around and it was. It was so exciting to see him. Get gatorade bath. Could you imagine chuck norris gatorade bath and absolutely not it was especially for him and his folks at home and craft and really proud of their son. I think they were in. I know i was sitting there. And i was just in wonder awe of what i just saw. Because this was a different pittsburgh steelers team and it was a different philosophy that i was used to yummy tony. We grew up with one coach. I was in college at the time. I was in my senior year of college. And the funny thing about it. I was used to all business when it came to football. I was used to chuck noll's way and this guy was complete breath of fresh air. Now it's not to say that we want to check on but you know he's gonna retire. You knew it was a situation though that you had a capitalize and make sure that the next guy after knoll was a good in this guy ended up being a great choice that year. The steelers ended up eleven and five in fact they stumbled down the stretch a little bit. They ended up having a home playoff game against league. Defending afc champions the buffalo bills. They got killed twenty four to three in that game but it didn't matter you knew something was different tony. You knew this was going to be a very fresh team a new team. It was a new era football in the city of pittsburgh and was led by pittsburgh's owned.

"Welcome back to the steelers retro show. I am brian. Anthony davis tony is alongside me as always and we're talking about the steelers and the chargers nine thousand nine hundred eighty four to sixty six teams trying to get to the postseason. It's gonna be tough for both of them but this was pivotal in this game. After thanksgiving in week thirteen the score was seventeen to nothing and the chargers would get on the board though but not in the manner that they hope for charlie joiner who was chasing the. Nfl's all time reception record. Dropped a long bomb from fouts early in the drive but runs by passes to james. Eric cevers and bobby duckworth got the charges into position. But the defense with to pass defenses by jack. Lambert held the visitors to a twenty nine yard field goal by but nurse with six thirty one left in the half. The score is now seventeen to three steelers. Aided by facemask runs by the trio of ehrenberg abercrombie and pollard. Sounds like a law firm. Tony doesn't it does yeah. There is a great hope for in nineteen. Eighty-four is a rookie running back colgate. I love that guy. He he tough also pass the stallworth and pollard. Eighty two for thirty yard score in the left corner of the end zone. It was number eighty ninth touchdown of the year. The steelers lead now. Twenty four to three. So you have louis lips with nine touchdowns and now john stallworth with nine touchdowns. I gotta tell you tony. This wide receiver trio was absolutely fantastic. There were some great things in store for this offense in the middle of the way they were rolling at this point and with the young talent and lips and of course you have the the veteran john stallworth. It was really looking good for them. Moving forward in this game was a great example. The steelers defense would continue to make their presence known meriwether would achieve a triple crown of sorts with a sack to go with his fumble recovery and his interception. The sack was number thirteen and a half for number fifty. Seven fouts lost ten yards on the play and limped off with a hip and groin injury and was replaced by ed. Luther wasn't that's superman's nemesis. Tony i think so. I think you're right. Yeah maybe this is his son. I guess i'm thinking of lex luther. There you go. After a three and out and a punt by san diego the steelers merrer the visitors and had to punt as well but the results of then craig colquitt spont- we're more damaging as james took the punt all the way to the house on a fifty seven yard punt return with fifteen seconds in the half to make it twenty four to ten lionel little train james toney. He was fast and he would. He would curse the steelers for a couple of years in the latter end of the nineteen eighties. I don't have very fond memories of the little train but yeah this was a very very huge momentum. Momentum shift for this game for him to return this pen for a touchdown right before the half this huge because the steelers were in total control at this point the twenty four to three and then to have them score a touchdown there that had to be pretty devastating for the home team and home fans. And i gotta tell you they love those little guys in san diego lionel little train james. And don't forget about darren sproles in the two thousands who was a great returner for them. One of the reasons that the steelers did not have to play peyton manning and the colts in the afc playoffs in two thousand eight. Because darren sproles when crazy so Thank you so much. For scouting dudes san diego lionel. James fielded the kick to start the second half but it wasn't as successful as previous return that we just talked about ed. Luther would come out without sidelined and would capitalize with new life after a third down pass. Interference was levied on mike merriweather. Luther went up top to wes. Chandler on a sixty three yarder past dwayne woodruff. Donnie shell for the touchdown just like that. The steelers lead was a mere seven at twenty four to seventeen early in the third. Tony is this. The makings of a ballgame. This point i mean you talk about again a momentum shift. You're up twenty four to three and just like that ended the first half early second half they score two touchdowns three twenty four seventeen your seasons. Hang by a thread at this point. Wow this marks a retro. Show i for us to tony because every single game that we talk about. You're getting great results from wayne woodruff. The last one we had just a couple of weeks ago wayne would have had his first career interception as a rookie in the opening game against the new england patriots. Every time we talk about donnie. Shell he has a touchdown a key. Interception a big hit. He is absolutely amazing. This is the first time we can actually say that. Both of these guys struggled in a football game but the steelers offense would not go into hibernation thank goodness riding pollard. For multiple nine yard gains malone went to the air and lips for a gain of forty yards on a single play polar then took it the rest of the way into the end zone for the second touchdown of his afternoon in a thirty one to seventeen lead so the mark of a good team. Tony is to be able to a comeback when you surrender a little bit of a lead and that's exactly what the steelers did here to get back on top and they weren't supposed to be the great running game. It was supposed to be earnest jackson and the chargers but man between abercrombie and pollard. These guys were moving to be twenty four to three..

john stallworth James darren sproles nineteen donnie nine touchdowns wayne woodruff seventeen Donnie shell Chandler Tony second touchdown dwayne woodruff wayne brian Shell forty yards lex luther Lambert stallworth

"Welcome back to the steelers retro show. I am brian. Anthony davis tony daffy oh is here as well as we go back in time to the steelers the cardinals. It's danger in the desert. Tony absolutely and you mentioned three sacks by lake in the first half jake. Plumber resign eager for a break. F- after being sacked five times in the first thirty minutes of the game so after the steelers went three and out jake plumber of frank. Sanders hooked three times for forty five yards on the opening. Drive with a new half. The third connection was for a three yard. but the score was tied ten ten momentum. Look to be shifting towards the home team. I was getting worried here as i as you mentioned earlier in the show. The cardinals may have been three and nine but they were. They were in a lot of close games. In after pittsburgh went three and out they took advantage and got right back into. They were going to be there to fight the whole day. The steelers would roar right back though. The visitors drove eighty yards. Courtesy of runs by number thirty six. The boss and with two kordell stewart completions to charles johnson and one each. Emc thig penn courtney hawkins and running back george jones. No not the country singer. They had a guy named george jones. There was a rookie that year number. Forty three he wore. I believe tony. Yeah i forgot about him. But i've been become more acquainted with all these games doing from one thousand. Nine hundred seventy was really a nice role play for them in his rookie year. On second goal from the arizona's seven beddis barreled in for his second score. The steelers were up seventeen to ten now with four twenty to go in the third quarter. The next dry began with another sack by jim. Has let's defenders. Jim has lit of course was an nfl coach in this league but first he was the defensive coordinator of the pittsburgh steelers and he was quite good. Tony absolutely was. He had to replace both don capers. And then dick lebeau who were coordinators. Before him and he did a good job. This this was a really good Defense in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight lost a bunch of free agents over the years. He kept them pretty stout this one. This latest sack was perpetrated by earle. Homes the hitman again but the festival of scoring continued when plummer took to the air again with passes to more and sanders speaking of those two cardinals receivers the to connected on some gadgetry as sanders. A former auburn football player and outfielder. Yes he played baseball too. He played in the college world series. He threw a perfect strike. Two more for twenty six yards. Finally jake. The snake found chris gibney for a score from eleven yards out over. Levonne kirkland with only a minute left in the third. The score was deadlocked again. Tony at seventeen seventeen. The home team cardinals would not go away. Tony what were we going to do. I question i mean after a pretty good defensive performance in the first half pittsburgh for notre defendants in in the locker room. I guess but you have the they would actually make the playoffs and beat the cowboys noel card round. So i guess they were. They were coming team. If you just didn't know what by their record at the time this guy jake. The snake plummer. He was becoming a true quarterback in this game as the third bled into the fourth. The steelers look to take the lead once again to cordell. Completions charles johnson and five carries by bettas. Got the steelers down to the arizona twenty-seven but a third down pass to will blackwell another rookie. Left the steelers four yards short of the marker incomes norm johnson kicked another field goal from thirty eight yards out for three point lead with nine twelve left in the game not ready to bow out jake. Plumber caught on fire. In the second half and had something to prove number sixteen completed a passive eleven yards to johnny mcwilliams but was sacked for a loss by nolan harrison. The former raider another long pass of forty four to more gut zona inside the ten runs by plumber and mcilroy got the cards on the doorstep of victory with a third and goal at the steeler. One that man again nolan harrison combined with darren perry saved the game by stuffing larry centers for a loss of one for the steeler. Defense the streak of not allowing a rushing pd. Now reach twenty six quarters. The cards had to settle for a game tying field goal by nedney at the nineteen with four twenty left in the game. Tony they were on the verge of scoring and harrison and perry not deebo harrison nolan harrison. Said no soup for you and shut them down but they didn't go for it. They didn't go for the win because they knew how. Well i guess the steelers were running the ball. What do you think was the rationale for the cardinals. Not going on that fourth. And one they had. They had nothing to lose every three and nine and yet the steelers were pretty stout against run. And and as you said they had not given up a rushing touchdown for twenty six quarters but plummer was pretty hot. At this moment rob. War was was a handful frank. Sanders was a handful. I don't know why they didn't just go for it there. I mean if you don't get it the steelers ninety eight yards away and if you force them on the and you have great field position again. So i think they should've went forward but but you know that's probably why we don't. We don't remember that guy's name. Whoever their coach with i forget his name really remember mogens years later. Actually that's a really good point. Tony i like that. That's true that is why we don't remember his name. What could have been. The winning series was not though tony things. Got nerve wracking tackle. John jackson left with an injured knee on the series but number sixty five reentered the game a few plays later who the steelers converted a fourth down in their own territory at the thirty five with a bets run. Now there's the difference there at their own thirty five and they're going forward on a fourth and one and they're on the road that takes a lot of guts by bill cower. Doesn't it tony. Oh absolutely. I forgot all about that when i was watching this game last week. The steelers had pretty much everything that lose because the difference in winner loss in this game could have meant the difference between number one or number two seed or number five or number six seed as a wildcard so cowards showed great guts and it shows you how much he trusted drum better set to go forward and that deepened his territory. That late in the game and the tie game now it would not be of much consequence though because they really couldn't get past their own forty two and they punted to the cardinals pinning them deep at their own. Fifteen but jake. The snake was really finding himself with fifteen yard scramble and then he hit rob more twice again for total of fifty yards on the drive. Man he really owned that. Dr roy moore and i guess you can say plumber with twenty two seconds left and definitely in ned knees range nolan. Harrison came up huge with another sack of plummer nedney. Who won the previous week's game with a forty. Three yarder at the gun marched on lined up for the game winner but tony forty six yards out. What happens a shanked into the right..

george jones John jackson Anthony davis charles johnson dick lebeau Jim fifty yards harrison darren perry chris gibney twenty six yards five times johnny mcwilliams Harrison brian Tony Fifteen nolan harrison seventeen tony daffy

"To seven. Tony and this is a this is thorough dominance just methodical dominant performance by the steelers offense and defense you look at the stats after the first half. I was shocked. When i think it was nbc. The game was on it and they posted them at halftime. Three hundred eleven yards for the steelers and ninety five for the colts. Now this is the game. These are two teams where the culture supposed to be the better offense the steelers you know obviously argument greatest dynasty of all time and on offense and defense they really could and were they going to continue that dominance after halftime we are going to find out when we come back right after this on the steelers retro show. Welcome back to the steelers retro show. My name is brian. Anthony davis tony deputy was alongside with me and we are in a dany of a playoff game from nine thousand nine hundred seventy six. The steelers won two straight super bowls. The two seasons before they were trying to get the third one. And we're gonna see what happens so far. It's looking really good against the colts second year in a row. They're playing the colts and this time they are leading twenty seven to six. And it's feeling mighty fine tony. After halftime the colts and steelers they traded punts which was kinda rare in this game with the biggest news was franco's exit due to a rib injury after a gang sacked by ham. Lambert and green was the gated by defensive penalty. The colts moved in the steelers territory. But on the very next play jones through complete to light oh mitchell but the ball was jarred loose by ham and andy. Russell recovered it at their own. Twenty nine forty in the baltimore dr seemingly. But that didn't happen that was dedicated to tony. They blew the whistle. They said they said i guess. Forward momentum of stop. It didn't make any sense. I mean that's one area where they talking about that play with the oilers and steals years later in the afc championship game but this play where instant replay it would have been very valuable because it clearly is a mental wasn't stopped really was a fumble but whatever it was nineteen seventy-six what are you gonna do. You're right tony. I agree with you completely on that one but having russell they would team up to sack jones and force another baltimore punt but again. The colts kept the ball. When larry brown got called for a roughing the punter so the colts had chance after chance after chance but the defense held again by stopping the colts fourth down so all of that all of those second chances and the colts get nothing with reggie harrison. Now the lead back. The steelers were moving the chains on the ground after a long completion of swan. The steelers were closing in on the red zone at the end of the third. Quarter tony so one quarter to go. The steelers seemed to be in control. My man absolutely and you mentioned all the chances to coach had previous drive and it just goes to show you how great tech events where they they never blinked. They were always ready for the next play no matter they never let the previous play them and for them. Stuff the colts there and a turnover on downs. And give the buback pittsburgh. I think that was that was. That's when you knew the game was over in pittsburgh was gonna walsum with a playoff victory to start. The fourth harrison converted another third down then from the ten yard. Line the original twelve through a strike on a slant route and whilst into the end zone to increase the steelers lead to thirty three seven. Who was the man that caught that ball. It was his second touchdown of the game. Lynn swann tony so this one was much different than the first one. The first one. We didn't really talk about. It was a long ball where he was all alone. And this one was a slant the middle two different plays but equally great by number eighty eight and he was he was white up each one. It was you know slim swine. He was he was not just a a ballerina. You know with with those kind of moves. It can jump in controlling the air. He was also very tough not that he got hit on this play but he could do it long. He could do it short he can go inside. You can go over the middle and this is a great example on this little slant pass into the end zone and it was just at this point. Thirty three to seven early in the fourth quarter was it was an absolute clinic by the black and gold. It really was and they were going to try to keep this going in the fourth but jones was still trying to make things happen. He was not gonna give up know. Burke jones was one of those quarterbacks was the cream of the league especially that year and he showed it. He was a very good player. He had pinpoint throws to roger car again. And glenn doty and runs by mitchell and ultimately rose about leaks got in for the score contributing to the score now being thirty three to fourteen with ten forty four left in the contest. You think fans were getting nervous with the quick strike ability of the baltimore colts. After this score that they could come back tony. I'm thinking at that time. Probably because this is the same year where if you remember week. One against the raiders. One of us remember that we know that they blew thirty one. I think it was thirty. One seventeen lead in the last like three minutes in lost like in regulation so maybe they would still feeling the sting of that game and they were a little leery of the colts and she said their high powered offense bird. Jones is a really great quarterback for that era. So yeah there are probably getting a little. Bit nervous yeah. They had to resort to an onside. Kick being covered by bennie cunningham. At the fifty yard line bradshaw came out throwing after a whole set. Them back ukwa was featured on the ground with both his legs and his hands receiver as he gained. Fifty total yards on the drive to get the black and gold down to the ten. And i gotta tell ya. I told you the story. I have a chance to drive. Frenchie equa- couple years ago to an airport in virginia and i had some time in the car with them. Just what a fantastic guy. And i felt bad when i watched this game because frenchy did all the work then with ten yards out. They give the ball to reggie harrison and harrison wrapped up the drive with a ten yard score his second of the game to make the tally forty. Two fourteen in favor of the visiting pittsburgh steelers. So here comes. Roy jarallah but no. It's not roy. It's ray tony ray. Mansfield is now kicking. it was It was his last game and rela was was injured. It was thirty nine fourteen games wrapped up and check north room a little bit. A little bone in ray was perfect. If you if you look at the check no was. He showed her sir rare emotion laughing and seem to really be celebrating for and happy for raisman. Really great to see from there. The colts were engaging in an exercise of futility. Tony white white and joe green they sacked jones and then from there. Mike cruz came in but it was the mop up of the game. And that's exactly what they did. The steelers would end up triumphing in this game. Forty two fourteen then. They would go on the next week to the afc. Championship against the oakland raiders for a trip on the line to super bowl. Eleven but tony wasn't meant to be. You didn't have rocky bleier. No franco harris and not even road jarallah. Because ray mansfield was kicking in that game for the steelers as well. They fell twenty four to seven and failed to reach the third straight super bowl of their young playoff career. Tony yeah it was a tough blow for them. It's tough break. They have so much momentum going into this game would they went nine in a row the regular season and then they just thoroughly dominated the colts. In my opinion this is probably the greatest postseason game. In the history of the franchise. As far as dominance total dominance and to lose your your two top running backs two guys at one thousand yards for you in a regular season. I don't think you can overlook that and and yeah. The defense struggled against the raiders. But if you're the steelers going into this game you had to change your entire game plan and it just it just wasn't meant to be but but it was..

"The steelers hangover money. Brian anthony davis tony. Nfl the them over there. He's flexing he's like a look of a gun show. We're gonna have to change this to the gun show. I mean if you're checking us out on the podcast platform especially the ladies. You need to tune in next week to see. Tony's guns there. I mean this i'm not. I'm not sure the keyboard warrior. I'm a in person. Were anyway so let's talk about this. We we talked about the guys on the team already. You could bring back juju if the price is right you still have. You still have to spend some money on juju. Yeah but if you had your druthers are you bringing them back if you can get him for for a team friendly deal which seems unrealistic. But if you if that were to happen yeah bring a back. And he's to me. I think here's a guy that could be the face of the franchise after benn leave so you know people compare them to hines ward. I think people get too wrapped up and all the other stuff with the social media to me to me that's harmless. That's relatively harmless If you look at grant the big picture which you do. He's he's a hard worker. He's he's a team leader and great community and he's a great football player. So i if you could get him back. I bring it back. It's just a matter of what he'd be too expensive and he probably will be. Okay now. are you going to do that. Is that your pick or you're going to go elsewhere in the draft or you can go free agency. Let's say well if you're going into the draft for free agency that means that juju is definitely gone or your gm. Tony you bring up you bring him back to you if you can get that team friendly deal or you're going to stretch to get them or you just going to say hey. I don't think we can make it work. Let's go another route. They've set themselves up nicely in the receivers over the last few years in the draft. When you james washington diontae. Johnson chase claypool. So i think judy is gonna command. You said it earlier in the show. Fifteen sixty million a year. Probably and i don't think they can afford that At with their caps situation. So i think Unless he's willing to come down significantly which i don't think he is. You probably have to let them walk. I would i would go Free agent a cheaper free agent. Somebody a veteran that maybe can come in and sort of be a calming presence like a jericho. Khatri for example. Somebody like that. That's what i would do now. Devon logan is wrong he says. You're gonna say. Larry fitzgerald. I feel it i would love i like that. And that's the guy. Would i would bring in. Gero likes to the larry fits thing to you larry. Fritz comes to pittsburgh jump for joy. That would be awesome. We also have. We might have some more. Larry fitz's i'm not there Ala slicks golden tate situation. I really liked the golden tate idea too. I just think. Larry fits and golden tate might be a little bit expensive not too expensive. I think golden tate is still going to command a lot more than you think you would. I mean like eight to ten million. But i think golden tate and larry fitzgerald both would be great for the team. But the guy that i'm looking at someone has said it here and i've got to go and look at it but just for what they need and howa judy was used remember. You have ninety seven catches last year right and so i'm looking at the guy that they can get for four or five million dollars a year and i said somebody it and i can't find it you know. I don't multi task. Well so i'm just gonna come out and say it. Danny amendola is cheap. He caught over sixty balls last year. I think it was like sixty five balls. And that guy i mean. He's a super bowl champion. Yoko he is. He's healthy for a thirty five year old. He would bring some stability to that wide receiver room. He could be a mentor once again. I think those other guys. Golden tate larry fitzgerald would be great mentors to and if they could bring one of those guys in in the prices right. I would do it and you know. I think it was mule. Skinner who said it. I think meal said danny amendola. So i'm a. I'm saying dating ola to think that'd be a nice sign for this team. And i really think it could work. What's your thoughts on danny amendola. I it's fine. I mean if you're if you're talking about going the veteran route It has to be somebody who's willing to tape. It takes cheaper deal in my opinion and you mentioned people like golden tate are going to maybe command eight ten million a year. I think it's too expensive for a guy for a guy like him with their situation. So am danny model. I mean there's somebody who could be a a nice possession receiver somebody who's been in the league. He's one super bowls with patriots to me. It wouldn't be a bad deal for a year maybe two he can mentor. Young guy show somehow to be professionals. I you know again. I think that would be great joey. Junior says t. y. Hilton would be perfect. Game theory actually just does not think the t y is a good fit again. Check his home road splits. He clearly plays better indoors. That's something. I haven't checked like that. Good job game theory and he sounds like somebody that would be pretty expensive. I mean he's not he's a big name. I don't know how other teams think of him but he sound like you'd have to pay a pretty penny to to get. I don't think he's even realistic. Option honestly your portent us saying. Hey claypool was drafted for jujubes departure. Yeah he i mean he really was. That's the same reason. Highsmith was drafted. Highsmith was drafted for the departure of a guy like By debris so they look ahead on this so you know i think. I actually think they're going to let let him walk on. Thaddeus says sign martavis martavis bryant. I think he was reinstated. I'm really not going that route because you've got your tall guy but a tall guy that i was really interested in who was let go last week that i would have brought in right away with tyrel williams but Tyrel has signed on with the detroit lions and he signed right away with detroit in the thing about detroit. They're losing guys kenny. Golladay is a free agent. They probably gonna lose amendola so they had to bring somebody in. That's a pretty good player to bring in so that's going to be. That guy was another guy that i would have definitely taken a look at now. Another thing that the steelers can do and steeler chick says it right here. We draft wide receivers. Well draft a wide receivers. Yes i agree with you. But tony where do you draft a receiver. You don't really wanna draft a receiver in the first three rounds. Do you as i was gonna say i mean they. They've done that so often. Over the past what. How many drafts that. They've drafted receiver second or third round. So they set themselves up nicely. They don't need to do that this year..

"Welcome back to the steelers hangover on bts family podcast named Brian Anthony Davis Tony. Deputy was alongside with me the steelers are six in order for the first time since nineteen seventy eight after squeaking out a win. Against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday of this week if you're listening a few days in ranch I, don't want to say. Yesterday. But the steelers beat the titans twenty seven to twenty four, Tony. It's a good hangover my friend. Very, good hangover very good hangover as I said in the first half this. was. This proves that to me anyway that they're for real I mean and I thought they were real anyway I, mean, you don't mediocre teams don't go five hundred against other mediocre teams eight probably lose two or three of those games loan away. So the fact that five going into Sunday's game told me. It told me that they were for real but but if if I doubted it if anybody doubted it but they did to the titans winning that game even though they face a lot of adversity at the end, it tells me that this team is a legit super bowl contender and they put a nice down payment on some very special things. In January. So let's go ahead in the last ten minutes of the show. Let's have you get your questions ready where you're going to revisit the steelers QNA. So get those in and we will do our best to read all of them. Now as says this, I said it before. If Ben Throwing forty to fifty times a game it's GonNa. Be a long day Tony. Did he need to be throwing that much yesterday? I. To me it didn't bother me all that much I. Don't think that was the issue I think just. The titans are a good team and they adjusted and I think they would've tried to run it a lot in the second half. It's still at the the the offense would have probably struggle to the titans were the Juggernaut and it was their time to. To make a comeback in the second half and I don't think that's the issue Ben Thrown Forty plus times before I think he's done a couple of times this season that didn't it didn't bother them. So wh what it between thirty five and forty not much and that's pretty much what he averages every week. So I don't think that was the issue I. Think the titans are the titans made adjustments in the second half defense in the steelers could readjusted what they were doing. Michael Tool says last season's less season Bush's sideline to sideline speed instincts kept Lamar in check for most of the game now we don't have that speed in the middle and that worries me a bit. Yeah, we don't have that speed, but you're gonNA find. We gotta find a way to make it up in other ways I. GotTa. Tell you this. I think with Robert Spelane in there that there are a lot more dangerous against the run Tony and I. Still Think there's a possibility that you see the steelers make a call and give up a fourth round of fifth round pick for someone struggling with the jets not struggling. Somebody on a struggling team like the jets maybe the Broncos you see a team like the Jaguars anybody that's looking to sell off some talent. You might see that Tony Yeah I, mean anything's possible. They proved it last year if there if you're willing to go out and get a nickel fitzpatrick after Sean, Davis got injured then even with Ben out for the year when they could've easily packed and now that they're six and. If. They feel like that that there's a move out there to improve their chances of of of having a great regular season and postseason they're gonNA do it. But what I liked about Sunday's game is not just Roberts filleting but I like the fact that that you do three got a lot of time in there and and and I. Love I love the Way Cam Sutton played yesterday you know in in place of. Mike Helton that just shows me that there's so much. There's so many guys that they can utilize to replace them and Bush like I said on Saturday am I show it it's GonNa, take a village and and it looks like they have a lot of lot of decent parts to to to make up for that absence. So so you know I'm not as worried as I was going into Sunday about about Devin Bush I'm still worried I think he's a valuable player is going to be a big loss but I think more than ever that they might be able to make up for it. I've seen this team go deep into the Playoffs who Jerry Will Saf ski. In. Their at Middle Linebacker or inside linebacker at the time I've seen this team take some guys. They've lost some players. They lost Labor on Bell and next thing you know a guy who wasn't playing was playing a lot. It was the Angela Williams I seen next man works so many time for times for this team. So I'm just GonNa say this you know you don't WanNa lose any player but I feel pretty with Robert Spelane in they're definitely against the Ron it's You're playing another run heavy team again, but it's a different kind of run heavy team with Lamar Jackson. We'll just see how it goes, but I don't think it's one player that is going to lose this game for the steelers on defense because they are a defensive unit as a whole I think without Devin Bush. This is still one of the finest front sevens in the. League. So we'll go ahead and say that Dallas Quinn says this Tony, our special teams were special. Tony. Ray McLeod is not the only reason. This team is fantastic on special teams, but he's a big part of it. Sides Ray, Ray we'll talk about Ray Ray and talk about what else is so special about these special teams I like the fact that I think their their their coverage units or I mean obviously kickoffs. Kicked out end zone. That's not much of a factor. But yesterday they tried a lot of short short kickoffs a lot of Kickoff. Coca. Cola kind kickoffs and and they covered it they since they can come back and bite you with a thirty five or forty yard return. But yesterday they stopping the titans at the ten fifteen when letting them get letting him get to the twenty and of course, you know. Boswell spent lights out. As. Bad. As the funding has been through five, the first how about it was through the first? Why weeks with Dustin Colquitt It wasn't wasn't that much of a hindrance because of the the coverage units I mean guys like..

"My name is Brian Anthony Davis. Tony was alongside me and we are talking Pittsburgh steelers on the. Yes no game no game whatsoever yesterday because of covid nineteen on the Tennessee titans eighteen players and staff in all. You saw it also interesting news over the weekend with. The New England Patriots having the First Star player the first Big Star player to go down with covid nineteen and being Cam Newton. So Franchise quarterback went down they are playing tonight in the first time in nearly twenty years. The New England patriots are more than double digit underdogs. So, what do you think about that Tony? That's Well I think as far as the fact that they're playing tonight is encouraging from what we talked about in the first half of the show with with with with the NFL's you have to do after and the what their plans are as far as anymore Kobe cases because this came out on Saturday and and said last week with with the titans it's all about testing. So apparently, no other patriots tested positive. So they were able to to play on. Monday. Instead of a Sunday. So I think that's encouraging moving forward because. You know when I when I first saw that I thought well, they're gonNA THEY'RE GONNA cancel that game too. So I think they're the titans they just had too many players test positive and they just could not play that game under a in good conscience Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday five days Sunday six days in a row in positive tests. Today's the first day they did not have a positive test. With the fact, they would've played this game if test stopped right but they did it but we're seeing now the patriots that's why that didn't happen. So you've got a great double header tonight to go ahead and watch. So that's actually that's something fun. Now I. Did not get a chance to read it because I was. I was writing for the show I was trying to get this show ready and I saw it come across the wire that the NFL has updated their their protocol now for when this happens, but I have not had a chance to look at it because it came out right before five o'clock. So I don't know exactly what that entails that something I needed. Go ahead and take a look at. If you do happen to know feel free we love to learn from you our live chat as well speaking of our live chat. Tony Dave Shipley. Dave a man who's WHO'S GONNA A game in Florida one of these days let's body and. You know. I'll take super bowl tickets to their Dave just getting buddy but it's like when your kid follows you panic, they panic Tomlin practices. What he preaches he walks the walk. We were just talking about Mike Tomlin earlier, Dave gives us five dollars to tell us that and I appreciate that because that's exactly who might come is to me and I think year after year a lot of people are are jumping more on the. On the bandwagon as well the so. AS Roma's says I live in Atlanta. Please pray for the Falcons I can't stand said face who's forty around all day. we'll see what happens yesterday. Saying Jacksonville game is on I don't know if I can get there in time if I'm going to be allowed to get there. Was As with planes and all that but I'll see what I can do. That'd be awesome. Tony. What do you say we turn this into a question and answer show I. Love It. Let's do it. All right. So you get to challenge Toni. Let's throw some questions out to Tony in the last ten minutes of our show if you have any questions that you want to ask feel free to. But in the meantime we're going to go ahead and we're going to read some comments. DJ TO WHY t only I always want to call him DJ to totally. and. I. Now I now know it's DJ. Only. I'm wondering you think Dj to it is a is an actual DJ. He could be yeah, that's that's quite a I'm glad I don't have that as a password I would never remember that. Now, I was a dj but I was a top forty Dj when I was asked to do a wedding. I never mixed anything a when I did a dance. I. Would never do anything like that. In fact, I hated doing those like to be on the air that was my thing. He says steelers one hundred percent got screwed by the schedule change no denial the NFL gave the Ravens an advantage over us that previously did not exist. I hear you I agree with you however. The the thing about this show. The title will the steelers let the early buy? And having to play all these games in a row, affect their season. We all agree that they won't because they have the discipline and I think that's the thing they have the discipline Tony. Well I mean when you say got screwed I, mean a lot many people complain about. How they play coming off the bye they do. you know not having a by so I. The Raymond's aren't GonNa be preparing for the steelers and the the first week of the by they're going to be off. They're going to be off at home and doing this stuff it with their families and they can't travel. As you mentioned earlier, they're not going to be preparing for the steelers they're going to be resting. Then they're going to be preparing for the steelers in the second week of the by. So I I. Don't know if it's that much of a disadvantage I think the really really got screwed. They head to play seventeen games where they had to play fifteen games or something like that that that would have been a real screwed job and not this. This is to me like we talked about in the first episode show you can. You can. There have been times when teams had their buys and the first month of the season. So Nathanielsz? Harada. Says, do you think we will be able to afford Hilton or will resign Sutton That's an interesting question at the beginning of the season. Tony I was all four looking towards the future. For Sutton now I'm completely on the Mike Helton Bandwagon Eissa you do what you can to keep the sky. It's can be a tall order. But as I've said many times I think he's GonNa he's GonNa Command a some big money finally I.

"Celtics blowing another big lead to the Miami last night and losing again, the Celtics were outscored by twenty points in. The third quarter and after the game that was shouting emanating from the Boston, Locker Room, it is being reported by the Athletic Jalen Brown and Marcus smart had to be separated after all that Brown said quote this series is far from over unquote we'll bond is it far from over? Well, not necessarily I, mean if you go three Oh down at three O up than it did essentially over citing the history of the League. I. Don't I think there's a long way to go potentially I think there will be a long way to go I now. Don't really think the Celtics will win. I. Think Miami will win but I still think it'll be a long and it's already been a fascinating series but Tony. I'm GONNA, attack a little bit or at least criticize my brethren, the people in our business we we used to cover a lot of games you and I for like forty years each and we heard screaming outside locker rooms all the time. Gary Washburn for the Boston Globe veteran sports writer and a damn good one and he made this observation in his piece. But I hear a lot of other people who'd never covered anything screaming about. All. This crazy and they were fighting and there you could hear sounds to me. If you lose these two games, Celtics loss, you oughta hear that anything less than that. They're not taking this. Seriously I throw clubs in scream lose to you a friendly golf match on a Saturday afternoon they damn better be angry and upset with themselves and each other and the say this is a big deal that part of it I don't get that Tony. So I'm GonNa leave that aside and I'm going to go back to the question. Does it feel like it's over? It feels right now like it's two games from over I like Boston and I've sat here in pick boss. Yeah and I look at Miami and they've got. They've got what it takes the. Quality Team Jimmy Butler makes big plays out of bio makes big plays gorge projects makes big plays Robinson. Hero make. Shots, you watch these you can lose you can play pretty well and losing four games if the other team plays better. You said this the other day that Miami's good from the top down and you're right pat. Riley and Eric, spol-, Straw and they got a team. Their coach plays a lot of different people and you know what? My they're ready to go in the game because they've played in all of these games. I still like Boston I'm not knocking Boston I, am saying to you that Miami Looks Better Right now business I tend to talk a friend. My friend is off the Ledge Celtics fanatic and I said Hey Denver was two games down towards the last three weeks they came back to force game sevens and one also Toronto was two nothing down to Boston they were within a possession within play single play from winning seven game series. So to nothing doesn't make a series over, you'd like you. Do but it doesn't mean anything definitively. Let me suggest this there's a lot more pressure on Boston. Then there is on Miami and what Miami looks very good at is understanding other than Jimmy, Butler everybody knows his role Jimmy. Butler can do everything because he's earned that if Boston presses and tries to win three games in one night, they could be autism Jimmy rule quickly Jimmy Butler scored fourteen points last night and to me was the best player on the floor I mean, Jeez drag it again had the points necessary but Jimmy Butler Tony plays in the made as you mentioned, he makes them all the time. It's great to watch him. He doesn't score forty to do it or shoot step back threes all night. The Western Conference finals tip off tonight. Lakers haven't played this eliminating the rockets last Saturday while the nuggets of fresh off their game seven. Win over the clippers on Tuesday. Lebron respect to the nuggets is quote out of this world close quote don't do you respect the nuggets enough to favor them in this series No I favor Lebron I've sat here on this show a lot of times and said, you don't go broke betting on Lebron. Okay their season series was three to one, l.. A. And the one game Denver Denver one Lebron did not play in that game I'm just GonNa say this to you Mike. We can talk about the basketball part of it. All you want. But I think that Lebron in the year the Kobe Bryant died I think Lebron has assumed the mantle of leadership of the Lakers of the franchise not just the team he's put that on his shoulders I. Think he's going to drive that team to win a championship like I really do. Look at this point is concerned mainly with legacy and I think that in it's occurred to me, it's occurred to him twenty times already. So I do like the position, the Lakers oriented there are basketball things we could talk about starting actually with Anthony Davis Tony, what it is, the his talent and size and hunger to be in a finals and win present. All of that should we can start we could start with the. Dovetail off what you said about. Lebron I mean the one thing the clippers didn't have as it turns out they got a leader in their coach, doc rivers. But in terms of players I mean guys who can galvanize a team guys who can challenge and team got some can threaten teammates for being lesser when he doesn't WanNa be lesser in that category of guys like Russell, and magic and bird and Jordan and cody. When you start talking that group Guys Lebron James is in that group and you. Know. Lebron. James been watching all of this. So closely and he's got things in his favor. He can point to Denver coming back twice is all you need but these other series Lebron can and will use it all. We've seen him do it time after time I just I am not going to underestimate denver anymore I don't want to get into a prediction about this series. What I do predict though is Lebron James will have the Lakers playing as well as they can play from tip off tonight. So I like Denver and you have to like Denver Denver was down three one and two series and they won and that's never been done before they've got the grit that Bruce Arians wishes Tom Brady hat and Yokich is wonderful and Mauri is wonderful. Anthony. Davis is really good. There's a quote..

He said I, don't Know Jeff. I don't know about this offensive line they're getting. A little old is what he said. And so I thought about it and I said, well, let's let's talk about this. I said maybe I'll talk about this on Wednesday so I did some digging. And I'll tell you what the the title of this episode should give away my take on it. Nonetheless, it is that. In Two, thousand twenty, the offensive line you should not be worried about. You should not be worried about the office of line in two, thousand and twenty. There's a lot of other areas of this team that you could be concerned about you could be concerned about the quarterback. Ben Rothlisberger hasn't played since week two last year he's coming off a season ending elbow injury. His the death on my Gosh Brew Tax Lynched Evelyn Hodges? That's it. You can be sued concerned about that. The running back position. James, Garner can stay healthy after that's very unproven. Denise no junior karat, White Anthony McFarland. Jalen. Samuels will even when he gets removed from the reserve covy list. You could talk about the linebacker and safety depth and I'm talking about inside linebacker in safety depth. You concerned about that Minka Fitzpatrick, it's hurt. Devin. Bush? Gets, hurt. Yeah, that's a concern that is. You could talk about the health of key players players that are known to have injury Issues Eric Ben Rothlisberger Vance McDonald James Connor Markey's penalty steph onto it..

Mark Kabali of the athletic who provide a lot of the stats for this program ambig- up to behind the curtains on Jeffrey benefit for providing some of the stats for this show as well so the name of this show is yeah, I, said it Steven Nelson had an elite season. But is he better? Than Joe Haden. Let me say that again. Steven Nelson had an elite season, but he's he better than Joe Haden. Now I want to break this down in a couple of ways. First thing I wanna do I wanNA. Prove that Steven. Nelson had an elite year. After that I wanna do a comparison, of Nelson, Verses Hayden. I WanNa do that two ways. Some of the stats that Marco Bali combined in his article on the athletic big up to the BOM CA boom. It's been a long time friend of the program. Also I wanNA compare Nelson, Hayden with the information that Jeffrey Benedict provided. I want to answer who is better in my opinion and last, but not least I want to tackle the question of who is the best tandem. Starting tandem of corners in the AFC I think it's only between the steelers and Ravens so I'm going to limit the conversation there. Thank you for the Super Chat. Let me jump in and thank you snowman for the birthday wishes, thank you for the five dollar. Super Chat which is appropriate because that is fifty. Thank you it's fifty times ten so hopefully. I will make it to five hundred, and hopefully I will be doing programs when I'm five hundred years of age watching the steelers, and hopefully by then the steelers will have fifty. Super Bowl. Championships now let me post this to the screen. I'M GONNA I'm GonNa get to your question bears, but I wanted to hold it there. Because, you might be jumping the gun a little bit, let me jump into the first part of it. I WANNA prove that, Nelson. Steven Nelson had elite year now. What could boom did and I thought it was outstanding boom. What he did was he created? A statistical spreadsheet. Of Corners. Who made all pro? And the corner who made the pro bowl? He did it and he did a based on a variety of metrics, and as I pulled up. I think it's a good. It's a good way to set a comparison of Steven. Ellison, an Hayden to how these elite corners performed over the course of the year now, the corners in his list are Stefan. Gilmore introduces white. WHO THE ALL PRO CORNERS! The pro bowl corners in which they were included as well were Stephen Gilmore Davis White Richard Sherman Marcus Peters Marlon, Humphrey Marshon lattimore. Darius slay in Jalen Ramsey and he broke it down to a variety of statistics he he looked at their snaps their targets. The number of times they were targeted the receptions yards td's. They gave and interceptions. I took those and I created some metrics of my own some percentages to kind of break those Dow. Now. When you look at snaps, all of those corners are pretty much have played. A significant amount of snaps over eight hundred snaps except for Jalen. Ramsey who played the fewest.

"To the breakout success of riots. New Talent for stories like this and much more Dallas Be Apt to watch new episodes of speed run every weekday. We're GONNA open up the live chat now. We probably got about five minutes left in the show and once again this is an earlier show. I have some. I have some family responsibilities that take take care of today. So thank you to Tony for going to come in early so else floor as as how do you feel guys not getting mosques? The tight end Randy mosses son. Of course I'll tell you. Wet says right now so glad. We didn't take Fatma's went to the Washington redskins. That's a guy that who knows If he's healthy you can go into the redskins and maybe maybe a really make a move. I'm fine with with them not doing it. Maybe they offered him a contract and free agency. That's a possibility but with I was projecting. You know they could look at this guy in the seventh round but they picked a guy that could be full time at tight end with their overall top. Pick and Chase Global. He can be Just depends what packages he could play. As a tight end he can play wide receiver. You Still Vance McDonald and Eric Iran. So probably really not necessary to bring a guy in unless it's a free agent deal where you want to address the defensive tackle position in around seven. And that's what they did Tony. What do you think well I mean? That's you know that was one of the positions signed Ibran and free agency that was one of the positions that seemed like they were pretty set at. So you know you have to. You know when that's what free agency is for US trying to fill holes early on with with with guys and they did that with Hebron so that frees you up to to concentrate on other areas and you know down the road. Twenty one twenty two if they need help tight end in some of these draft picks at other positions They hit on when they can cut straight on Titan with Maybe a more premium draft pick because this next question. Donald NOLAN CONTRIBUTE OVER. Show a good contributor mentioned. This and I'm not sure how they even answer this Tony it's a great question. Which player sees more time on the field this year? Derek Watt were Eric Ibran Tony the different positions. So could they see equal time? Well I guess it all depends on. Are we going to be more conservative? Even though bench back and try to Nepal more We know how much Ben Likes to play In and now with the SIDECAR so I I'm GONNA I if it comes back the guy that twenty eight. I'm going to say it's going to be Eric. Hebron all right we do have a super chat year. And I'm trying to get up on the screen and I don't know why I'm having trouble getting it on the screen but I'M GONNA go ahead and there. It is big rush. Thank you too big rush. Four ninety nine. We appreciate that. And if you do want to support the show besides hitting like an subscribe which is really important to us you can go ahead and In throwing money in live chat and we'll get to the top of the queue with your question. Big Rush says good draft but not getting. Jk Dobbins will be a regret we could have got him in got the Charlotte linebacker with the next pick. J K will be an all pro running back. I think you really could be all pro running back Tony. What are your thoughts on that I mean? I think that's a resume I'M NOT GONNA. I'm not gonNA rippon. Jk Dobbins now. Because I really liked him coming out of college I really. I was really impressed. After people started talking about him. I think he can be a really great player. But you just never know and it's like I said earlier With that second round pick. It could've went in any different any number of directions and and no matter who they settled on. It wasn't going to be a universal positive reaction. Somebody was GONNA have a problem with it and that's how it is every year so chase. Klay poll could be you mentioned. Calvin Johnson could be an opera receiver. I'd level for next five ten years and I think would definitely take that it just depends I love what what you know. That was not what we know but what we really think. Play Pool can do and could really Boost that receiving core. I'm kind of torn on it. I'm still very thrilled with the Kopech hate to see him as a rapper. D- Yuck man I when I saw it I was like no and I 'cause I I fought the I thought maybe the dolphins we're GonNa get him and then I thought wait or the Patriots picking here. I was really confused with the whole thing because everything was fast and furious and when I saw was Baltimore's like you've gotta be kidding me but out really that's how I mean you can only pick one I in that situation and it's I mean I'm fine with it. I I hope Klay pull is equally successful. Because if you have a an all pro in clay pull an all pro dobbins than you're both winners. No yeah absolutely so so there. You Go Darren Dalton as does Paxton Lynch when the backup role this year. Tony I like that question. What do you think I think I think They really like Mason Rudolph they. They didn't really even address. The quarterback situation in the draft or free agency undrafted free agents after the draft. So they must really like. I mean they've obviously They've come out with a vote of confidence for him a long time ago and and and it didn't really do anything with the quarterback position in in in in the off season so. I think I think they must feel really comfortable. That he's made strides so. I think he's going to be back. I don't think Paxton Lynch I mean based on what you know. He didn't really do anything last year so he hasn't done anything since he's been drafted and I think it's Twenty fifteen so twenty sixteen so I I think it should be Mason. Well let's put it this way. I my opinion is Paxton. Lynch will will get every opportunity to supplant him and if he supplants. Mason Rudolph than. He's the better quarterback and I'll be perfectly fine with it. That will that will spell the end for Mason Rudolph and you have to pick the best based on where they were drafted in. And what have you? But when I'm saying as far as Paxton Lynch goes I'M GONNA disagree with you Tony. I very rarely disagree with you. The reason he didn't do anything last year he had no time in training camp. He came in Excuse me week three or four and so we see that a lot with with guys with the steelers result Vance McDonald coming in as a trade right right. Before the before the start of the season it takes a good year for anybody coming into. Pittsburgh most of the time to make an impact. That's why you didn't really see. Paxton have an opportunity to do it I think he can. I think Paxton will probably be the number three player on this team on on the depth chart as far as passing goes but we will see if he could supplant them. Maybe maybe he has a career renaissance here in Pittsburgh till that'd be awesome. I'm a Lotta doubt it but I think it would be awesome. So what I want is the best quarterback in one of them could really step up. It'll be great I also respect the fact that Mason Rudolph will send some competition from Paxton Lynch more than he had last year in training camp as well and that includes Dobbs being in training camp so a lot of people had Rudolph winning the job outright before they even started camp and so they might be having that again but it will be a definite competition with that being said Tony. I think we had a very lively show. I love the show. After the draft gives us a chance to talk about everybody Your last reactions of the draft. Tony as we wrap this thing up. Well I mean you know. People were talking about the Ravens winning draft while they were GonNa win the draft all along. They add ten picks. I think they had six in the first one. Oh six Pittsburgh had to in the first one O two so the steelers. Never GonNa win this draft as far as public perception. But you know you don't win drafts in April you when you win drafts. In January and December and January so I'm interested to see how this plays out and it's all about the big picture. We have one last question here that I did want to bring up before we need to go. What do you guys think about Winston? Rejecting the steelers contract it came out. The steelers offered him a little more that he wanted to stay in the division in the AFC the NFC south. In play for the saints. I'm just saying it's his loss. It really is his loss. I would gladly welcomed welcomed him in. I am not really. I don't care either way or less. I mean I mean really. I don't really love the quarterback. A really don't love him he's a name and I would have welcomed him in with no problem but if he's going to reject this year contract and I'm like you know your choice but here's the thing what I love about this report I actually. I hope it's true that he rejected the steelers contract. I love the fact. The steelers went after it. When everybody said they're not going to. They went after it didn't work. That's fine at least you made the effort and I'll take Tony Yeah. I didn't hear about this this morning. you know and and if it is true is like instead they there was a guy that became available and they gave it their best shot. There's only so much they can do with their cap space so I'm impressed that they were actually able to Make him an offer that was better at the saints gave him. But you know it. It's I think they're you know they're just GonNa roll now with Mason this far as your backup moving forward. You'll skinner says the best. Thirty INTERCEPTIONS IS NOT STEELER WORTHY. And you know not supposed to have favorites but I love the humor frank web lives. He's a comic genius in my mind. Go Kick Rocks Winston there. You Go Alex Florez ask what about Cam Newton. Hey they could offer one to them and I would welcome Cam Newton then. I could really not seek cam. Newton Cam Newton waiting waiting for June and getting waiting situation than and that could possibly happen. But we'll see but with all of that. Thanks so much we cannot. We've had close to one hundred and fifty in the live chat today at one point Really appreciate all of you. You know we can't do these shows without you. We usually do the show at five o'clock on Monday. We had started one thirty because of other situations. And you guys were all here come in droves we respect everything you do for us and we thank you so much so four Tony Adams Bryan. Anthony Davis Tony. Take us out.

"I'm jeff the helmer and that's lands the hater. What's going on land? How you doing? I'm doing fantastic. You know I got my beanie on some in Sydney hater mood. The beanie makes me feel great. Little Tassell on top little pomp calm. I feel great with you. Got Your you've got your coaching shirt on. And everything you're ready to go just won't show you guys my hair underneath but Yes the Mitchell and ness You know I'm suffering with no haircut in like six weeks very good. Okay not like Geoff. I'm not like Jeff can't just reinvent itself you could. It's okay though. Let's let before we get into the brunt of the show I wanNA make a couple announcements About things coming up tomorrow Mondays. The big event that is the Brian. Anthony Davis Tony. Desio the community mock draft now. What this is last week they had west hitchcock longtime urine listener of the program on and they did basically the whole first round and then victim the steelers picking number forty nine. That was last week this week on the steelers. Qna's show. They are going to be doing. They actually did it on yesterday. A draw and assigns specific people or participants. A team that they're going to be drafting for in the upcoming mock draft. So that's going to be tomorrow at five o'clock I do WANNA mention that. I'm really excited about this Thursday. The first round of the draft we are going to do a live draft party viewing view. Whatever you WANNA call it I'm trying to think of the right word. Basically where if you WANNA watch the draft with us? We're going to be here the whole draft now. I do want to say that this is just GonNa be on Youtube. We're not GONNA put this on audio. We're GONNA DO A wrap up podcasts. At the very end and that will go to audio the next day but in the first round come and watch the draft with us up on. Youtube have US up turn the TV on us in watched it all unfold will give predictions will probably break news early. 'cause we'll be watching twitter It'll be a lot of fun and Lance might join us. He might not. We might have people coming in now so we might have. I know that Dave Brian and I will probably beyond the majority of the time. And then if let's say. Dave has to go do something. He'll bump out of the show. We'll get someone else. I think you might be joining us for a little bit. We make it lands on so there you go. What time does that starting to West Coast? West Coast would be five five. I hop. That'd be out of work so I'll be able to hop on. I saw comment in the live chat pertaining to haircuts. I'm jealous of Mike o'malley Michael Malley said. He broke now cut his own hair and gave himself a tight fade. I'm so jealous Mike AAC. Can you give me a virtual HAIRCUT GUSTS OF CLIPPERS? My hair lines for the back of my head is longer than the front because as I approached fifty I gotta bid balls spot. I'm looking like Lebron though it's pretty bad. I need help man. I need a virtual fade. Come on Mike semi so virtual clippers tight my lineup or something. Yeah and the last announcement is that on. Our Saturday show is the burning question. Next week will not have a burning question because that's going to be another draft. Obviously the draft is Thursday Friday Saturday. So we'll be back next Sunday for another homer hater to kind of recap everything but in terms of Thursday Friday Saturday. Like Lance gets a week off from. Yeah I said it unless he wants to do an extra show. That's really up to him Thursday Friday Saturday will be all stuff. Be there for all that but Saturday issues starting next week. Not that after the draft the week after that is gonNA be where Tony gets his own show. Now I was talking with Tony the other day. He's been doing a great job for us on Monday nights and I was trying to explain to them. Like hey you know. What do you want to call the show? He's just thinking like burning question. But Tony. I'm telling you can think of your own title. If you want to get doesn't have to be burned question. We can go in other avenues. That he's thinking about that Another thing Dave brought up days goldfields the live chat. He's Briscoe is GonNa stop by on the draft party show and he also said that the draft contest. We have a draft contests on the website. Right now good behind the steel curtain dot com. You can enter try to predict the STEELERS ARE GONNA pick in the second round if you do gotta go check out what you win. So that's on the website right now. I think that's all the announcers. Can I give a cheese on my thoughts of the steelers? Twenty twenty draft. Sure why not. I'M GONNA hate every pig. I'M GONNA hate every pick so make sure you chime in next Sunday to watch me. Hate every single draft. Pick that the steelers make after live up to my name. Eder also ended up for you out there. I'll say land so he pig stupid. Hated it and every go we're good. Lansac goes right hated. It picked a long snapper in the second round. Hated yeah so today's show as not just nothing but announcements I promise is basically titled Predicting The unpredictable and the steelers twenty twenty. Nfl draft the first and foremost you have. The draft is unpredictable nature. Everyone wants to predict it. Mock drafts are the most popular thing in recent memory since the Internet became a major player when it comes to content. But it's a crapshoot. It's a crapshoot the mock drafts. I can do a mock draft rate it up like I'm an expert and because I can read I'll be convincing to and that could be all wrong all wrong but you know what it's still does develop. A conversation develops a debate. And that's okay. That's okay but this is our last show before the draft on Thursday and I think it's important that we talk about everything from the predictions to the unpredictable nature of the draft. And especially the fact that this upcoming draft is virtual. So let's start there is something that really piqued my interest. This virtual draft. What do you think that means for teams that are sitting by a computer? There's No war room. There's no you know Roger Goodell on stage given Bro. Hug All these guys. A virtual draft. How does that change things for you lance from a visual medium perspective? I I think for younger fans. I think it's going to be very weird. I think Jeff. You're still of the age where I think. The draft hasn't always been a bit production in New York and all that type stuff. So you're still of the age where the draft was just a phone call a video of guys in his house? He cries he you know. He cries with his mom and his dad. And everybody's in the kitchen eating wings a having barbecue fried chicken and chips and some punch I mean. That's that's what I grew up with the draft. Look like I think for younger fans. It's going to be very different. Because they've grown up with the draft as the spectacle. I mean twenty four hours of coverage tickers all day. You know ten minutes between picks you know videos in Dion Sanders doing interviews like this big grandiose production guys in in the Green Room or guy sitting in the draft room sweating air rogers getting more pissed off every minute that he's not getting picked and finally goes almost last in the first round. That's what they're used to for me. Not really a draft guy. It'll be put for me a return to what makes sense. I mean these guys have not done anything yet. So I've never understood the grandiose level of how the draft is covered but I I think it was always smart for the NFL to just create more content and create a more of a top piece around the draft. Now in terms of drafting players. I think there will be less reaches in the draft because some of these pro days and all. That stuff has not happened. So you're GONNA HAVE TO DIG into game film You'RE NOT GONNA be able to be Lied to by a pro day or by an old guy with a bad thumb on a stop. Watch that messes up. A guys forty time any goes from four six two four four because the guy sneezed. Stop Watch so. I think it's going to be less reaches but I also think staffs new staff or going to suffer in the draft. Because how do they manage first of all? They're draft room. How are they going to draft as an organization and when you put this when you put this other hurdle in front of them how it's virtual and all this other stuff? I think a lot of new buildings are GONNA make bad. Picks SOLID ORGANIZATIONS ARE GONNA clean up in the draft. Because they know what they're doing. It's going to really be about game film in preparation doing that. And so I think teams like the steelers are GonNa do Great. I think teams like Tampa Tampa or new staff like Jonathan of a new staff a new head coach out there But I think new staffs aren't are GONNA struggle but I think from the Fan Perspective. I think fans are. You know new fans aren't GonNa really know how to take this. I'd can't disagree with anything that you said. I agree one hundred percent but I do have another question. Follow up how do you think this could possibly impact trades? That's my favorite part of the draft. By the way I love it when teams trade because it means at someone's moving up to get that one guy just like the steelers did in two thousand nineteen they move up ten spots a trade with Denver to get Devon Bush inside linebacker when you see it happen. Steelers trade with them. You're like oh boy. They're getting that. One Guy is going to be impacted by the fact that there is no war room. There is not that one line. I'm sure that they did a mock draft during a mock draft. I think tomorrow Monday To kind of iron out all the issues. But what do you think that to do with trades draft age rates? I think the trades will be. I don't think there's going to be a lot of trades due to the fact that you can't get reliable medical information I mean. I really think that team. This is trading picks. It's not just about players. Though trading picks I could see that I could see the movement of picks a lot more because I think with the virtual aspect of the trade with the draft. And the fact that you haven't had all of the typical things you could do get guys in your building. I think teams are going to need extra cracks at it so I think from a trade perspective if it doesn't involve players but I could see that being active where you just need a lot of cracks this because there is a lot of uncertainty in the draft. That typically hasn't been there and so you can mitigate that and minimize some of that by just having a boatload of picks. Yeah I mean the I want to say that the Miami Dolphins are the most picks in the draft. Fourteen draft picks who need them and he draft picks. I Dunno the steelers have six so I mean yeah I mean but for but but that's I hadn't fourteen right now. I mean your position really well I mean that's a lot of draft capital. I mean you know you just keep going. You know swinging mismanaged. Just you know you keep taking swings at it and you might hit a home. Run on one of those picks. I can't see they're going to draft fourteen of those picks but they've got ammunition and fourteen like steelers that have six steelers. I don't think you're GONNA be trading picks but there are teams. You know with all these offensive lineman these quarterbacks there's going to be teams where you can leverage those fourteen picks having a stockpile of picks is always a good thing that draft. It's good for it. Gives you a lot of draft capital at or It allows you to pick these guys and you just have room with trade zone so forth. So they're valuable you a bold prediction for me right now. I do my prediction from for the twenty twenty. Nfl draft the Pittsburgh. Susan. They will make one at least one trade during the selection process. Okay at least one trade. So I'm not saying they might move up. They might move back big thing. It might be up into the I. I don't think that's going to happen. But it might be. They traded a fifth round. Pick or maybe they go into twenty twenty one and Trade. One of those draft picks. I think they're gonNA make at least one trade during this draft process. So let me cheeses. Let's tease this. So if they do that. Trait is to acquire additional second round. Pick that's dad's I mean Maybe that would be ideal. I think they could get either another second or another third so vow the steelers I would be. I'd be okay. 'cause they did get a third round. Pick 'cause the cockpit for leave you on bell if I could get Stadi- say of trade one of our fifth round picks because they have two fifths. I believe this year. Trade one of the fifth round picks in the navy a six next year and packages. Together move up into the fourth or even the third round. I would do that because I think there's a lot of value still there a lot of positions this Jewish could really covet tackle wide receiver Couple other deep positions out there. You know we've talked about him at nauseam seeming on all of our shows so I think this is a draft today. I I think one at least one trade some trades. Aren't that significant that it on face value but when they traded up two spots with Seattle to get Mason Rudolph a couple of years ago then within a huge trade..

"Know that's that's the funny thing about this game. Yeah just just when you think you have all the answers. Thor's there's somebody else I'm going to steal from. Roddy Piper here. There's somebody else changing the questions and somebody's saying not so fast my friend. What about US Mike Wallace dropped that fourth-down pass Irish Killa says fourth-down. Pass that hit his face mask. That's why we lost the packers. We didn't get rid of San Antonio homes we would have one that super bowl. That's Nice thing saying how in twenty in hindsight but I mean Santoni homes was. He had a real serious problems going on there when when they traded them. So I mean it's easy to say that now but I mean he was yeah but Holmes was magic for the jets and he he was tough against the steelers. AFC Championship ship game. They were starting to come back young. wood-burning wants to know so eli has won two Super Bowls Aron A era you. Just you just messed up a run. You just messed up Arun. Both both future hall of Famers were does not get in air. Iraj does get in now. They both get in. Here's the difference Rogers a first ballot Home Hall of Famer to Me Ellen. Going to be a first ballot hall of Famer unless there's big competition there but I think Eli it gets in first ballot. I don't think Eli is a first ballot hall of Famer. But he's going to get in. You're right Oh you know what I'm saying. I would not put on the ballot but I'm putting him in You know just being the Patriots twice alone and the other people in that are in there throughout history. You can't can't take that away from ally manny now. If you want to know a guy who I do. Not Think is a hall of Famer. And it's Philip rivers really. I Yeah I mean I can see that because he has he never imagined a super bowl you know but I guess you can make the same argument that needed Dan fouts and show career so although I think fouts played in a bigger game so maybe maybe maybe you're right. Maybe you're right. I just don't think he's to to me I I'm I'm getting it on the live chat right now I I think he had a long career. He had a solid career. I just and this isn't about winning rings 'cause Jim Kelley Been Wondering Even though he was in four in a row. But but it's not about the winning rings thing Dan Marino Never Wanna right but but the thing about it is. I just thought he was a good quarterback of very good quarterback but not a great quarterback not an all time. Great I mean he might have the yardage because because we are in A. We're in a league now that relies on the past. I was telling you about watching Super Bowl. Nine the other day Fran Tarkenton was the leading passer with twenty five hundred ninety one yards leaving passer in the NFL that year. That's how the game has changed so I just don't find him to be there checked power. I love this by the way great name name. And if you're the Real Jack Bauer God bless you because I love twenty four but again Philip rivers is the modern day. Kenny Anderson. Ken Anderson is not on the hall of fame. I always loved Kenny Anderson though. But that's probably a really good comparison So I would probably say I say not Philip rivers so there you go but with that being said Tony Cause I can tell you were disagreeing with me. Can you make a case for well just fact just you know his numbers overall numbers. But you know to your point. I when you're when you were going over rivers career I I was trying to think of a of a breakout like one memorable moment from the guy and I really couldn't think of one you have with the helmet. Catch you know He. He had this part in that. How Mackenzie Story? He broke the You've got away from the sack and kept play alive. Something like that. You know ban any number of Ben. But you can't think of anything with Philip Rivers. I as far as a defining moment for his career there it is terrain. Good call because there's never time you're like man. If you see what Philip Rivers remers did it again. No we we that guy I mean. Sometimes it's longevity. Somebody asked in the in the live chat a long time before and it has really nothing to do with steelers and everything as those in Pittsburgh I asked if Dave Parker goes on the Should go in the hall of Fame Hall of Famer. He had a long long career. He and a really solid career. I think he's on a Fr- on the fringe blood. I think in the course of it. It's probably not a guy. Hi that you're saying all right right fantastic fantastic player a great player. But I don't know if he's an all time great right we have. We have no time left but things to look at coming up this week. Choi Paula. Malu Alan Fanta. Okay best wishes. Let's get a four pack in the hall of fame. Because I want to go to canton this year. I already put it on. The calendar told my wife and family. We're going Ohio in August. And so I've got to buy me Donnie. Shell Jersey as well and get ready to go for that. But I'd love to see troy in there. I think troy goes I think it might be tough for Fanta. Fanta 'cause going in Fana Kaz going right In the modern era in the next three years I I just don't think he's going in now but He does he D- deserves to be in there. So with that being said Tony. Thank you so much lots of great conversations I think we establish the chiefs as the next dealer. Great rival. Tony Thank you so much live chat. BBC family thanks so much. Tony take home a friend for Brian. Anthony Davis Tony. Actually you have just been hung over today. Good night we'll see you..

"My name is Brian Anthony Davis Tony is with me once again and we are here to rehash the happenings and a half games in the second half Seattle Game I mean they've clearly not given up as a team and they clearly found found ways to to to put themselves in position when these games so you know unlike some other teams in the NFL the dolphins and the jets they don't look totally help us out there they look like that that just needs to finish game so the season still can't be salvaged I guess it all depends on what you mean by that you mean playoff eight nate I guess we'll have to wait and see but you know yesterday would have been a great game for them to win as far as you know playoffs are concerned but I guess we'll have to try to steal another game thank from from a team that you don't expect them to beat but if you look at the second half schedule and lightens up considerably I mean they had a dolphin suggest bengals again so there's in the cardinals so there's definitely a an opportunity for for them to have a a season that's that's much better than we it's going to be right now they just have to again find a way to come through and crucial moments which they haven't been able to do for quite a while you know what I I agree with you on that and in a hopefully that team that they don't expect to beat would be this the Los Angeles chargers who are who are actually struggling right now as well they lost who Denver yesterday and lost in decisive fashion as well so with that being said let's continue to talk about yesterday's game we about the the rough part with injury we let's talk about the good and the bad let's start with the good if we had go ahead and put the cap on somebody as Valedictorian for this game and say they would have went and won this football game who would have been the guy that we would have been talking about as the MVP who would you put that on who's your Valedictorian yesterday's game actually it's probably gonNA come out of left field but I really like how Vince volume played yesterday I I don't know about you but I really like he I thought he was a big difference for that defense no nine tackles he had a sack it a pass defense he looked really really good knee looked like he he was a great fit alongside Devin Bush oh you know had they won I think he would have been somebody would have been talking about more today but obviously you cannot say you know we we don't know how the game if they would have one maybe it's deaf and hard touchdown pass that I'll bet you off but but I I think I really liked how Vincent Williams played in my grades article AH I had put Vince Williams as the Valedictorian another guy that I'll throw a shout out to would be Minka fitzpatrick just because of how he is solidifying that defense and I know it seems like I have been I have been really up pushing him on everybody after the trade I just love what he's doing he has made it is made Terrell admins a much better player and he's kind of solidified that Defense and by the end of the season if things keep going in the direction that the defense is playing this is a top ten top five defense we do have to ahead and capitalize on some turnovers that that they're getting but he is definitely a a reason and one guy that we can't we really can't deny is TJ watt watt is is really becoming the heart of that defense and you could actually say that about a few guys when have we been in a position where we could reel off about four or five names being the guys on that Defense are really going to lead them into the future I could throw out I still throw out hayward into it I can throw out Bush I can throw out what Hayden and Fitzpatrick at this point and other guys we had we saw sutton step up we saw up Healton my gosh Hilton is one of those guys that that is really playing really playing well so that's you know I asked the Austin when my buddy Dennis Sheridan wrote many many years ago Brian and that's what the last time we say that I mean it's been a long time so I really love it I really love what they're doing this is one loss that as devastating as a loss that it was to me I feel real good about the team going forward I still think some tweaks needs to be made now we gotta go on the on the rough side of the ball if we got to and somebody to detention Tony who you sending the detention well I hate to say it but athlete Juju because I've been harping on for all all day you know I it's just it's just wears on you as a fan in the writer when you see these these guys in close game after close game and in somebody whether it's an offensive player or defensive player or coach somebody makes critical mistake at the wrong time and you saw yesterday I mean he holds onto that ball there and I realized Marlon Humphrey made a great play but you know Gosh Darn it judy is a pro player in his own right so I mean eventually you have to stop tipping your cap the other team and and and and and had them tip the cap the cap to you and if he catches up all their their at midfield and overtime and who knows what happen so it's gotta be Juju well you know what I saw very interesting tweet about Juju "But you're looking at the team with the best record in the east right now and ING the one need fulfilling the need that the walkie books have a round onto the Gumbo, which is more shooting tutor emeritus, man. And I know it's thirty eight percent thirty seven percent. It doesn't look like it's prolific. But he goes on just I mean, he goes on just binges where he can't miss. Shot. He's kind of guy Tony if he can get you a game in a series. It's a big deal and just provide that particular skill for that team. That's a big. So let's look at the top of the east the bucks, get miratec. Right. Mark assault. Lies in recent all-star allies in Gary Player, understand thirty four thirty five three bevy juvenile, right? We agree. That is a big time. Move me Tobias Harris went to Philadelphia the other day and the Celtics stay, Pat. And to me, I'm not sure the Celtics haven't been passed. I think truly I'm not sure I think because I don't think they have too much talent. I'm thinking about students. Nobody that's who is to. And I think that maybe Toronto I liked that movie twenty they kept Kyle Lowry liked Toronto. At the moment. I have a hard time separating the four. I mean, I think at any given time in Philadelphia's also made moves today that helped shore up a bench that was just there was no bench, and they added some depth. But Tony what do you want to deal with volts because they got rid of false, and they. Apparently got a first round pick and for fulls when they would have taken a bowl of soup because he did not fit in there. It's merciful that he's going to have a chance for moving here in the place. Where more kill fulls grew up and played. Yeah. I feel bad for him. And I know you do too. I do we both do because he's a nor do I know. And so I know I don't even want to deal with it because it's not they're out of the mix of what we're talking about today. And I hope he can just quietly underrate our find himself and a career but going back to this bigger theme of Toronto Milwaukee Boston. Will you got you got you got Boston University? Okay. All one line. I just say that's might go in Milwaukee to today was a disappointment to me because it was not no bombshell. There was no bombshell. This was all hat. No cattle to me today. I expected more. I why everybody everybody except me originally told you don't expect I expected more. The lakers. The trade deadline Tony to make a deal for sweets shooting. Seven footer who can go into the lineup instantly and play nicely off. Lebron Mike was scholar in Michael Beasley, boy, veep kazoo box out. Meanwhile, the Lakers in pelicans had nothing for one another as it regards. Anthony Davis, Tony what exactly does all that mean? I think it's a terrible failure for the Lakers. And now this may turn out to be a pyrrhic victory for New Orleans. They may never get anything close to what they might have gotten from the Lakers. I will concede. That's possible. I think it's a failure. For Magic Johnson. I think it's a failure for LeBron James. I think it's a failure for Rich Paul who all he did was take Anthony Davis out of New Orleans and now make him reviled in the war liens for as long as he has to stay there. I think they needed Davis. I think they needed to make that deal because they were so public about it. I think it's a failure. I don't think it's anywhere near that. Because the Los Angeles league. Weren't going to win the championship this year anyway with every Davis or without him. Now what they bite a minute run with Anthony Davis. The players Tony not this year. It'll train your whole team. And I would not as I've said he told you multiple times before today. So I'm not as supportive. I would not trade my whole team. Anthony Davis Love him as I do. I don't think he's such an answer that he alone propels the Lakers into some championship. I believe that's Joe. So, but I've got two questions right now. Do they do a reset and get rid of Luke Walton does that happen? And now Lonzo ball is there. So it's dad didn't talk in all doesn't he matter much longer..
