Towns, Edwards Stick up for Each Other After Timberwolves Loss to Heat

"While john. You're at the center of a pretty entertaining moment at a press conference. Recently after the timber wolves played against the heat and their former teammate. Jimmy butler can you tell us about the exchange you had with t. Wolves players anthony edwards. And karl anthony towns after that game. Yeah it was entertaining. And that's for sure. Tiffany as people may know. Carla anthony towns and the timber wolves in general have a little bit of a history with jimmy butler. He orchestrated his way out of minnesota. A couple of years ago there was no love. Lost so the timber wolves. Replaying the heat in miami. And it was a kind of renewal of the good tidings. If you might say between. Karl anthony towns jimmy butler kurlansky. Towns are really going at it. And they're gonna call technicals on jimmy. You picked up some of that. Otherwise people listen for themselves until after the game of course we have to ask our towns about that. Where where your emotions running high at that point where we're going through your head is that game came to an end there. It just so happens that he and anthony edwards doing a joint press conference and anthony edwards really kind of stepped in and took the reins mandate grown man. Let me just talking having a regular compensation gagged me me. Y'all come to see us compete. It's no competition. If we not six it was just a really illuminating kind of exchange tiffany because here's a nineteen year old rookie. Who understands that. The veteran right by his side has never been one that wants to engage in the public kind of mudslinging that jimmy butler let many players in the nba enjoy. Doing he always wants to stay above that. And anthony edwards understood. That and said i'm gonna make sure that squash this before it becomes a major thing and he did just that

"Obviously being a number one. Pick what i wanna ask you is how would you define kind of his time there in in minnesota. Because you know you look at his numbers. I don't think you can call him a bus. I think anybody that says. I think anybody that says that is just you now. You're reaching their hard but There was another level that i felt like it didn't hit so i was curious your perspective on that. Yeah i i i think. That's he's definitely not. I mean he when he was here. I think he topped scored forty points in a game like seven times. Or something like that He he had he had some monster nights here and there were games that he played where you saw. All of the natural ability harnessed and channeled in the right direction and he was legitimately great We didn't see enough of it obviously. Now here's the the big issue that he ran in minnesota and first of all there's no better person in the nba than andrew wiggins like his teammates. Absolutely love him. He is the coolest easygoing guy. He's a family die votes on his on his daughter. Just like in. Just the nicest kid ever So nothing bad to say about it that way on never griped complained about anything during his time here whether it was losing whether it was maybe treatment from fans what or anything like that just went to work and and went home But the problem that he faced here is that he was the number one overall pick he was traded for kevin love And he was being counted on to be a franchise savior to be the guy that night in and night out was the dynamic player that filled up on on offense that played great defense. That really changed the course of of a franchise and he got the maximum contracts. You got all of that stuff. Yeah you the rookie of the year. and really turns out that that just weekends was not that player. He's not your franchise player and and so he can be good players a good player here. He's a good player and golden state When he's around teammates that are more talented than him. He can be a great supporting role player on a team. And your number three or four option And really help you but if you need him to carry the load if you need him to be the guy that says follow me. I'm dragging this team to the playoffs. That's just not andrew wiggins that's not in this character. There's too many games where he would just be kind of it and he just doesn't have that killer instinct that that personality about him he's had a really good season golden state because they don't need him to be that guy they have steph curry and klay thompson back. They'll have him as well. Draymond green helps a lot with the leadership and all that So he's just a. He's a good player in this league. That's who he is. He's just not franchise multi time all star Guy that the timber wolves needed him to be nothing wrong with that overall. And i mean certainly appreciated your feedback on that. 'cause.

"See anthony towards in the rookie of the year. Race right now and Him as a person is is he. Just that is is he funny. Or is he serious sometimes when he talks and really believes. Some things like say about you know that he could have been a baseball player. And and not knowing a rod. Have you been able to gauge his personality at all. Yeah i mean. He's i mean he's making attic as a personality. I mean he made love them. I mean everyone fans who listen to him. Talk while there. You can't not smile when you're when you're having a conversation with him and he really kind of opens up and and gets me breath because he's he's totally honest he is like you did not know. Alex rodriguez At all and You know he does believe that he could have been a pro bowl. Caliber defensive back In in the nfl or he could have played baseball if he wanted You know whatever he has the supreme confidence of you know that is kind of infectious and he does believe that he's not just playing games. That way You just is like. He doesn't take any of this too seriously in terms of like the media portion of things he just he says what sounded mind. And and that's it and so you know some of it. Is you know funny. And and and and light hearted and all of that but then there are times you can see where the losing whereas on him or if you make the mistake defensively and and the team loses the game. He takes that hard. I mean. I think that the one thing that i've learned the most about anthony edwards. The season is as you know. Mike like he came into the draft and there were real questions about those. He loved the game you know. Does he takes this. Furiously is is going to put the work in and this guy. I mean. He absolutely loves to play basketball. And you talk to the coaches. He's in the gym. You want to get better. There's a hunger there that he has he. Is you know there was kind of the the lazy kind of comparison was is this. Andrew wiggins two point all in terms of another guy. That's just not that competitive doesn't really kind of take it seriously just here. Because he's super athletic and can and can do it. This is not andrew wiggins two point. Oh and this guy is going to be a monster in this league when he kinda figures things out and he's putting in the work He is blossoming over this sense. The all star break. I mean the other night Against memphis forty. Two point. Eight for nine from three going to the basket. He's got so many things bag from an offensive standpoint and shot making driving Playmaking for others like you. Just look at him. And he's nineteen years old of any and sky is the limit for this kid he can if the wolves do the right job of developing him if they get him the right coaching in the off season to work on his game and improve You know kind of continue to add to his body as well mean you're going to be looking at eventually. Have two years down the road. One of the very elite scores in this league and just an unbelievably difficult player to handle for them. It's definitely going to be interesting to see with him. You know. I gotta ask you before i let you go. You touched on wiggins for a second. And i was curious being around both wiggins as a player on a person and the fan base in minnesota the numbers that the guy put up like when he came in and people would throw out like tracy mcgrady comparisons i remember when he was like coming into the league and like it didn't pan out because you thought like he would be an all star given his athletic ability and.

"Like you know. Maybe we didn't click but that's the kind of coach maybe is needed to to get the most i. I'll say this. John from from from my perspective on the two of them i got together. I thought they. Karl anthony towns given his shot blocking ability in rebounding ability. Could one day contend for defensive player of the year type of award just because he has the tools to do it now. I know carries a huge weight on offense much more. So than a guy like a rudy. Gobert or you know miles. Turner for example but I just wondered if like that looking at it from minnesota's perspective from two things number one If they almost didn't realize how good they had it in a sense with tibbs on in some aspects given that he was able to make them competitive and and a playoff team and if calling towns may be has a different perspective on him Given that you said they didn't always see eye-to-eye not necessarily raqi. But not either i either. Yeah i mean. Look i think if you talked. A lot of the old bulls players like joke noah Like jimmy butler even Like several of the guys that played for him. They always said that i. They didn't really you know they didn't care too much for tips. And it wasn't until they kind of grew up and they'd be played for some other coaches and stuff that they really appreciated. What tips brought to the table In that regard so it's it's possible that that talent could feel that way no. There's no doubt about that. I think the biggest key for kids in new york vs minnesota. And you know. He's done a terrific job with the knicks. I mean he's been amazing and they'd been one of the best stories league but the big he has been that he's just the coach that he has so much help around him from a front office standpoint from you know to handle the day to day daily basketball operations things That he did not have here in minnesota. I mean you know we unrolls. Great trust relation trusting relationship with tibbs so tibbs. Trust him to do what needs to be done from a personnel standpoint Worldwide last years this charismatic dude that can relate to players that can That that has huge contacts with coaches and and with so many people around the league that is one of the longtime big time operators in the nba. And you know he's got scott perry's th there's all sorts of guys that are there to help kids do the things that he is. Not that are not strength for him. In minnesota scott layden was never the guy who was going to be a strong gm to tips as president and and so. That's what kind of stifled things here in minnesota is that there was just this kind of wait on everything all the time because it's really sort of just lorded over not only the coaching staff at tv. But the front office and so They have just the knicks. Have done such a better job of surrounding him with talent. That can help From you know from an executive standpoint the coaching staff All of that That he did not have here. And that's why it's working. You can just focus on being the coach on doing whatever it takes to win in that night's game and it's working beautifully. He had too much responsibility here in minnesota. It was. He was not capable of being a politician that you need to be when your title is president of basketball operations and he really really really mishandled the jimmy butler trade situation. And that's why he got fired and and so That's just that that's the nature of it. So does that change things for towns long term. I don't know I don't know how that works. But again i i just don't see any reason for towns to pull the plug on this thing on the wolves right now because he has teammates he likes. I think he's respects coach finch for the way that he's already kind of implementing things that maximize the team's ability to win. He has a trust with withrow sausage with the front office and like everything is going his direction here right now except for the wins and and i think he believes that those are going to start coming now that he ngelo. Russell are healthy playing together. You know it's you brought up some interesting points about tips. I now that fair to say on minimum that this guy is a strong coach of the year candidate.

"Leon rose the next president. Who was towns is former agent. Got the job and it was his first day at the garden on the job. And you know. I will say that to your point about other executives around the league keeping tabs on towns and obviously that makes a ton of sense but other executives around the league have always felt that the knicks would try to land a star in this league. That's with ca due to the ties. The leon rose has obviously working there previously before he took the job with the knicks. And i will say that as you mentioned. It's something you always can monitor and with the knicks for example They have the pieces to go out and try to get. It doesn't even have to be called. Towns could be another star that you know they've got mitch robinson. A young senator got j barrack. Who's a nice young player and they've got the draft picks if needed as well so for me if call towns at some point is on the trade black. I would definitely look at the new york. Knicks to be among several teams around the league will will make a pitch for him for sure. Yeah i mean. I i look at it as a of course that they should be interested in leon as a relationship with town he was talent. Agent was just holtz. And and so there's that you know Kenny pain is on his staff and they And kenny pain are very close from there. Kentucky days certainly worldwide west all. There's a lot of connections there. One interesting element to it would be the the time. Sydal factor You know you. He in towns didn't exactly see eye to eye when he was in minnesota. Excuse me it wasn't like they were at each other's throats or anything but they just never were on the same page and so it would just be interesting to see. How reunion like that would work. I do know that the knicks fandom in in the towns family is real. That's obvious But you know is that kind of like You know something that is absolutely what towns want. I don't know he's talked here in the last month. Or so about wanting to have a legacy in minnesota and wanting to be the guy that turns this around and and so i do think like he understands that he has an organization here that really values him and caters to him. And his power to be the leader the face of the franchise and he understands that he likes that responsibility and And going somewhere else. Is you know you never know. The grass is not always greener so Ultimately though mike what it comes down to is will the timber. Wolves put a winning team around. Karl anthony towns and if they don't eventually he will go if they do. I think he will stay for a long long time and so. I don't think that this summer is the be all and end all for. I think he's got one more year at least of of kind of really kind of seen how this is all going to work out and you know if they go into next season and if it just doesn't work if they're back in the lottery again back at the bottom of the western conference then i really could see you know kind of this whole thing coming to ahead I just think it's a little early for that right now But you're right if you know if he becomes available very via trade. I think you're you would see several teams lining. I don't think the knicks honestly have the assets to get him like i don't think rj barrett mitchell robinson and whatever pick set. They're going to have know sense. They're not going to be in. the lottery. is going to be good enough. For karl anthony towns. Who's one of the best defensive players in the league has three years left on his deal. I mean i would the team that i would watch golden state like that you know. That's the team that maybe you know. They need veterans around steph curry and not their young pieces and maybe you know lottery. Picks and things like that but again. I do not think that's going to happen. I don't think that that the wolves are going to trade. Karl anthony towns. I don't know. I haven't seen anything to say that towns wants to be traded so We'll have to see how it all plays out what But eventually the wolves will be on the clock with him and they know that and so it's kind of like a a put up or shut up time for for the wolves not immediately but certainly going into next season. I believe that's the time. I'm i'm linda i'm looking at. It's interesting that you brought up the warriors because obviously they have james weisman day potentially have another decent draft pick as well and you you look.

james weisman Karl anthony Leon rose minnesota j barrack Knicks mitch robinson new york three years knicks kenny pain last month first day one Kentucky rj barrett mitchell robinson golden state leon linda Kenny pain

This is also a significant fintech company that works with regulators in singapore and beyond if the fact john that it's not even profitable and isn't expected to be so until twenty twenty three even though it's a so called super app begs the question that i know we ask often here as can the gig economy ever be profitable and i'm talking not adjusted dot profitability net income. Not that lhasa. I don't care about profits with this not yet not yet. I mean in. You know this new job better than others we were. We were in singapore almost a couple years ago. I remember meeting with anthony tan more than five years ago over in new york and really what they are is so much. More than ride hailing food delivery. The really are that kind of almost china style app of everything in your pocket. Leading the way to more digital commerce and particularly post pandemic as more and more businesses especially local ones need to move digital and that links into the you know the tourism economy all of that carl opening up the possibility for fresh modes suspending grab has an opportunity certainly in southeast asia which is under penetrated when it comes to technology and commerce to really be a big part of the infrastructure there.

"Last night this up. Did you say it wasn't it was it was on the weekend because we had a. We had a food delivery problem last night the classic we ordered pizza and okay it gets placed. I go to walk the dog around the neighborhood. And when i come back there's a small bag out there that's food and pick it up. I'll say pizza. Bring in put that back. Put that back. They brought the wrong food. They dropped the wrong food off do you what is this. She's like it's like sushi. I put it back and she had talked the driver. I guess he dropped the wrong big off and never heard from him. Never saw him again. So you'd never picked up the show. I was like he's not coming back back. Because probably our pizzas at somebody's house and gun deconstructed pizza dough thought of that. So yeah anyway. Was the sushi worth then like the sushi today. We gotta find it all that. They're pretty they're pretty good at that. Like screw up or there's an era just something else completely was ordered. We didn't even ended up having pizza. Yeah sounds like number. At the starters office and delivery guy was the company just never showed up. I don't wanna. I don't wanna and it just never showed up and you're out there for hours. Yeah well yeah That happened a couple of times where i was. It wasn't fifty actually with someone else. Because i'm not gonna say who bad. Excuse me fifty. Because they said they cold and remember we not get good reception in the office there. So i didn't get the call and apparently they waited fifteen minutes at the front and i never showed up until after that so they took off and get the food and i called up and said like well. I haven't got my food. And i paid for it and i didn't get a refund and i would like you get fifty percent off your next order. I'm like well. What about this. What they were saying you pick up your phone. We called you well. Yeah i mean that was saying you called. And i'm like well i never had a call but i couldn't believe how they just said foods delivered on the app and i'm just like it's not delivered. Trust me. I don't have it. And i think peter's day good pizzas but driving. Youtube is like if they minutes on. The going can't wait around all day for you to get your room. You're in that you can get reception so you know you're there. Yeah yeah we started making you go down. Just wait student really anyway. I'll throw mine in here. Something ordinary that. I got that i'm excited about you. Know it's it's a compost bid. It's an indoor capo spin. It's my housewarming gift for my wife. Bamboo all one hundred percent. Bamboo even the blackburn. And it doesn't smell. So i mean bagging that then or no not at all it just cleaning could could but i haven't so far so far it's Not to stinky. I was just stuffing their own. That's not stinky.

"Bill russell someone iconic wilt chamberlain. I mean i think if you went through history who had the most like my opening lines box score. I'm going to guess it's wilt especially if you could accounted blocks and steals and stuff like that. Like i mean we're we're talking about games that he's putting up fifty s and thirty s and like pre has to be named after chamberlain. Now the wall to boys. But you'll get your leading right now over damien alert one last year. Remember no idea. I think james harden. Maybe yana so james think yeah. Yeah it was one of those two guys but then you like if you really had to like. It's tough right because it all depends a little bit to win. The wool boy is like when your team is. Playing games are on that. Yeah and you'd have to act like a human deep dive on the schedule. The find out like who's like actually benefiting from yeah like a lighter schedule that night yeah usually usually would be the teams at the top of the league. I would think so. Yeah you were a play on. The tnt. Thursday nights for the schedule is light. Yeah maybe that's the case. So last teams are people are saying. Whoa kitsch after chaffee leads. Yeah it'll be interesting. I think this should decide. Mvp by the way it should be all boys hands most wins mvp race. I mean yokich. Lillard embiid hardened. Even zach levine. Show to trey kerby curry james. They're all right. That's line of the night award. I mean it can't just be called line of the night and no that sucks lovely lovely. That's where it started right. Yeah okay next. One here watching the hornets kings game on monday night. I was entertained by the excitable. Play by play commentator. Eric called as much as i was entertained by the on court action. My question to you is. When was the last time you got way too excited about something fairly ordinary. That's from john. In newark of trent england. Jd got gone unanswered. This one well. I do and it is quite ordinary I we the other night We ought to chinese okay and Very ordinary and we We always get. I think this is an american invention. It's cantonese pan-fried noodles right. So i never eat them. Because they're a terrible thing to order because it's the crispy noodles right. They deep fry the noodles. And i put the the the awesome stuff on top. The kids love it. And i'm just like Not into this. Because it's when we eat in it's awesome because it's this christie's crisply show of soggy at the exactly they're completely drenched so anyways The cantonese pan-fried noodles arrived. And rachel was incensed because there wasn't enough noodles in it right and i'm like i don't care because i don but it was very stressful. Because because she's called to complain. I'm like oh boy here. We go. Because i'm not that i care that she's complaining. I'm just if they react badly to to her complaining. You know what. I mean if they hey whatever get over it. Yeah then that's it. That's the end of that restaurant for sure right. And i like this place and i don't want i don't wanna mess with it anyway. So she called they were very cool about it and they sent over some noodles just by themselves she said. Just send the news. We got lots of the stuff so they send these awesome and is right around the corner just down the road nuts and they were hot and crispy and allies. This is awesome so then take that. Take the filling and put it on top of these crispy crispy noodles and it was amazing and i was very very excited. But it's very ordinary. Wow so you know in the future or are you going to be allowed to order like that. Say hey. don't put the stuff on top of them on the side just send the crispy noodles. That's brilliant exempt. I've seen mo- verney unbox cantonese pan pan-fried noodles and the place that he ordered from it. I can't count san whatever. It's called in toronto. they always send it. I don't know if he requested. Now i'm just like i got a request. It noodles on the side filling on the side. And that's how we got to do it from now on. This is that i mean i i hate in the modifier agai api in the this substitute guy just like it doesn't work as delivery so just don't order it i. I'm eating meat in the singapore noodles. "But but i think the the only opinions that i heard other than this man was that it was a two week. Ramp up period. So i'm gonna say he's a little bit of a loon in fun word to say Yeah i i lean loon in this situation i think anthony davis will be back and we'll see the you know it's coming pretty soon that that two week evaluation. It's only nine days away now. So lewd guys think well. This is a great common here from. A person named leibel is waltz surname disney because this straight up phan-tien really likes that. Leibel this walt. Walt onto something. Here is the onto the lakers. What's going to come on. Yeah that's saying the nets are gonna win. I'm kevin durant had remember. He had a strained hamstring You know how long ago that a month ago maybe feels like anyway. A hamstring is something. I think he can come back from a little bit quicker. But if this is an achilles and i keep on thinking of kevin durant in the fauna klay thompson sat right now and i just hope for anthony. Davis is sake that it is just extra precautions taking right now because if he comes back too soon we know what can happen. So i think the lakers realized that they don't need him right now because they're going to obviously finish in the top four in the west and if they're all healthy then. The lake is still the favourite in my opinion to win the championship. So make sure when he does come back one hundred percent clear from this injury because anything else is not a risk worth taking. So we'll we'll find out. I guess soon. I guess who knows what exactly when he will be back on the court but i think the likes taking the wrong approach. If they'd just saying listen to keep matt has long as he needs to until he's completely over but this kind from alex you said a friend well. Speaking about the lake is always out for walk. La summa during the quarantine situation. And i always wearing a magic johnson t shirt and this guy stopped me any. Yeah no this guy here. His name was steve steven kala and he said to me because our magic johnson and i was like. Yeah he goes. I used to play basketball with magic johnson back in michigan we ej the dj and buck. And i it was a great guy. I sure prefer to said onto magic johnson but unfortunately never applied to it. So that's my world. did you look up. This guy's name. I he played a college obviously played at the pickup runs. Yeah i think. He's just a friend of evans back in the day. So yeah it was way you mentioned magic johnson to play. I know magic but unfortunately magic on instagram. And you know you don't have to really check those. He never did nor never spoke. Tweet the photo all right. I will also yells. The what is lewis. Yeah it'd be upset with your shirt. You sent him a dm well. I sent him a dm on instagram. Because you can't people on twitter. And i'd yeah all right i'll say wanna make it public publicize. I'm sure he'll tell you he's this guy said that magic went by ej the dj and blah blah. Before yeah yeah. Not the dj. So i've heard of that. All right. I'll tell a dj story. Yeah put a good idea here from the from the street team lee lee on the street make it happen. Net flicks. Early just wanders around. Hey are you selling those risks. Hey you know this guy. My shirt is used to play by. He stopped me. He stopped me understand. It doesn't mean you know being sincere. They'll be weird thing for him to say to you. I'll be honest. Yeah so anyway. 2021 Lottery NBA Mock Draft

"Tony. And i are going to do our first lottery. Mock draft of the year today. We're going to go back and forth. Selecting picks to put a draft order together. Midseason is really difficult. Especially if you've looked at the standings anytime lately and seen how bunch together so many of these teams are so i went to espn's basketball power index That list teams projected records to the season through a number of statistical factors. I think it's it's probably a better look. At where teams are going to be at the end of the season then necessarily their records right now and then based off of that we put together a draft order that obviously is going to change and obviously will be affected by the nba draft lottery where the top top three teams each have a fourteen percent chance of getting the top pick and so on as you know how the draft lottery works and so doing a mock draft. This time of season tough until really until the draft lotteries over. We don't really know the order but but we have some guesses now based off of where teams what teams have played. And what's going on right now and we're going to do our best to give you a are mock draft For the twenty twenty one season. First one we're just gonna cover the lottery and we're going to let tony how the first pick in the draft and based off of that. Espn bpi has the minnesota timberwolves projected to have the worst record in the league. Which is actually pretty good news for minnesota timberwolves fans because the timber wolves have to trade pick to the golden state warriors if this is pick four thirty and so the only way minnesota keeps this pick is if they fall into top three right now. If the season were tomorrow they'd have about a forty point. Seven percent chance of keeping this year's draft pick a falling the top three in the draft. So this is no guarantee from minnesota that they'll have the number one pick they all said the number one pick last year. Tony you're on the board. Who do you select if you're the timber. Wolves with the number one. Pick in the twenty twenty one nba draft. I select the I will not need three minutes to make the selection I'm selecting k. Cunningham six hundred seventy one hundred twenty point guard out of oklahoma state and so when you When you make your draft selections you do to you draft for two things you draft For value and you draft for need and this is both in pick antibi- you pick for for for the minnesota timberwolves number one. K cunningham is the best player draft You know. I think the gap is actually close Because you know. I think jonathan coachman gain in jalen green. You know both of those guys you look at them and they have some real special tools But that being said you know k. Cunningham is is still am. I is the most shore Most short superstar player in his draft. In and i think that's a compliment to how good distract is going to be especially in the top five But you know cunningham can score at all three levels. No he's sick. He's all seven all twenty. He's he's a natural point guard You know if you're minnesota you're trying to trace the ngelo russell Like as soon as possible In you know you put k. cunningham in the backcourt with anthony edwards who i think both of us can safely say it's better than we thought he would And i think that. That's obviously a backward for the future for the minnesota timberwolves in a really nice triumvirate with karl anthony towns so Definitely you know we all rights won't always talk about. We need some some of these number. One picks the go out east but you get the number one pick in another kind of generational prospect that comes to the western conference. I'm totaling till the agreement with you. Tony i think look. I don't think. I think there's five guys that can make a claim to the number one pick in this draft and so it's not like cunningham is a lock here but because of that i would put all of these players in the same tier and then when you look at what minnesota actually needs on their basketball team. Right now i think cunningham is just the right fit for this team as well and i i see him as a really nice compliment to karl anthony towns and to ant man right now and i think that this is this will be a huge boon for minnesota. If they get this pick and you know look everybody in minnesota has got gotta be crossing their fingers at this point Like you said if they fall out of the top three golden state gets this pick. And i think golden state already one that andrew wiggins dangelo russell trade as it is but if they end up getting you know the fourth or fifth pick in the draft does as as well. It's going to be an absolute massacre on that trade.

Wolves fire Saunders, hire Finch as new coach

"We've got a head coaching change in the nba. The timber wolves have fired head coach. Saunders but i. I had a game to play brian. Sanders was coaching against the guy. He replaced tom sibito of the new york knicks. Having a great season there is game. Went down to the wire. Karl anthony towns had shot in the post to try and take the lead with thirty seconds left over his former teammate. Taj gibson but it rimmed out on a rim in madison square garden. Where the ball. Just capterra women out on sunday and that was ryan saunders. Final quarter as head. Coach of the minnesota timberwolves took over for his late father. Flip saunders in twenty nineteen thirty four year old had a string of injuries to deal with and played many many close games and the timber wolves already have saunders replacement chris finch who was a raptors assistant coach. This season has been given a multi year deal by the minnesota timberwolves to coach them full time. It's a rare move to pluck an assistant from another team. Mid season to take over job just doesn't happen very often. Usually the team that fires a head coach just moves their assistant over for a while at the very least when the full job search can be done until the full job search can be done in the off season but they had been looking at chris finch for a long time in fact he interviewed in twenty nineteen when ryan saunders was eventually given the job and finch like his good friend raptors head coach. Nick nurse coached abroad for a longtime uk. Germany and belgium then moved to the g. league and then was assistant in the nba for a decade. And he's an offensive specialist who worked with james harden in zion. Now he'll have the chance to work with karl. Anthony towns anthony edwards.

To keep you busy Minnesota Vikings and the Saints tomorrow and then a Saturday off a handful of games and obviously Sunday as well. Some bowl games mixed in there. Also, we're gonna get to some of these bowl games in the five o'clock hour, five o'clock eastern. Two o'clock Pacific hour and some of the issues that we see happening with the college football playoff as well. We have Sean King, former NFL quarterback and assistant coach in college football, one of two lanes. Best is going to join us in our next segment to talk some college football, but Basketball is underway and we saw the opening night two nights ago with the Lakers and the Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets, destroying the Golden State Warriors. We had a full slate last night. There was a game that wasn't played, okay. See, did not play Houston. Because of covert issues are gonna get to that in just a second because I think it portends some some daunting challenges for the MBA ahead. But we have to start with, uh, Karl Anthony towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves as they took on The Detroit Pistons last night. All right, so there's this game was really ugly. It was It looked like two teams that you know we're still trying to find a way, but that's the man who cares what this What? That about that game. It's It's one of 72. They're still 71 more to go. They're both Either find define find who they are and define what they are not as the season goes on, but this story is more on call Anthony Towns You know so often We've looked at this The Corona virus pandemic and we see it affecting athletes on and mostly it. Zah tagline X Y Z player has tested positive for The Corona virus. He's going to be on you know some reserve list and be gone for a couple of days, and then they'll come back and then everything will be fine. Very rarely have we heard a lot of stories about how it's touched. Some of these athletes, But Karl Anthony towns is a story that kind of the story of this country with over 300,000 deaths so far, we we tend to. I think one lump them all together, and but when we get one pulled out And highlighted and especially when it's a a famous athlete and athlete that we have a lot of respect for. It really hits home and in touches you and in a way because you feel like you're you have a personal relationship with our with our athletes. Karl Anthony towns. Mother tested positive for the coronavirus back in early March, and on April 13th just six months ago or so she passed away. And Karl Anthony towns obviously is a young athlete didn't expect this. She was only 59 years old. No one. No one could expect their mom to pass away that early and just be taken with the snap of a finger as it seemed like it must have been without really getting a chance. Because of the protocols back then you couldn't go visit in the hospital. And it changed call Anthony towns on this game last night. Was a culmination of a lot of things for him. And it was really compelling to hear him talk about this. Remember, we met Karl Anthony towns, right? When he got drafted, he talked about wanting to be a doctor. So you could you knew that His his. His mind was more than just I'm an athlete. It was it was deeper than that. But obviously he is an athlete is a great athlete on basketball means so much to him. He scored 22 points last night at 11 rebounds on only 10 shots, so he's very effective, efficient. He was one of the bright spots for both of these teams last night, in fact, down the stretch, it was like he was Putting something some extra energy into his his need to win this first game of the season. Let's listen to Karl Anthony towns after the game last night. I don't even recognize most of my other games, and the years I played and how I felt those days. If I could be honest job for a second, I mean, I don't really recall are really cared. I don't know what happened from April 13th or because you may see me smiling and stuff, but that Carl died on April 13. He's never coming back. I don't remember that man. I don't know that man. I don't I don't know you. You talking to the physical me, but my soul has been killed off long time ago. So I want to really answer your question. I really do. But I only know how I feel from April. 13 Ball on to say it's been day by day is Early understatement. I think it's more moment by moment. Um I like again. I want to answer your question. But That that man you're talking about from April 13th before? I don't know him. I don't recall any parts of them. That's that's heartbreaking to think about. He's such a young man still and everything that he Puts into his game and who into his persona to his brand to who he is. It seems to have been washed away because of this big tragedy. Maybe it comes back in a year or two or or who knows who knows how long but Right now. It feels like Karl Anthony towns is somewhat of a broken soul on Thank you. I don't I don't know what the emotion is for him, um, of what he said. But I can imagine if I had lost my mom in the middle of my playing career. If I don't know how I could have gone forward. My mom was everything from she is everything I did to me and Call me every week before games and say, play proud. I'm sure it was the same for call Anthony towns and his mom, Jackie, until um you know, basketball just makes you realize the fragility of life when we see it in front of our faces, and we expect these athletes to stand and be Champions and heroes and examples and in and put their wares on the court, but not realizing that sometimes life those you a serious curveball and you don't have an answer for it, and it breaks you. And the mental toll is far greater than anyone can ever see or express. So you know this. This isn't about the Timberwolves in this game last night, it's Maura about think collectively. As we think about Karl Anthony towns and want to send him a blessing because he shared something that not a lot of people are willing to give access to He's says he feels broken, and I hope that that's not forever And I think in time he will find a way to find joy in what he does for a living, and hopefully past that joy onto other people as well. But I hope that I hope that it's not. Um I hope that this isn't lasting for quality in town because he really is a great kid, and he expressed that in a way that makes you feel it makes you really feel for him, especially In his first Christmas holiday.

"This vibrant unbelievably supportive. Mother is carl's room. Think we moved in here the year. Two thousand and four and he's just been writing quotes. His mother was the one who tethered him to this world. I mean she was the one he always called for. Pick me ups for encouragement. He leaned on her wholeheartedly and so he was very much lost so as the spring and the summer is going on the nba. Season eventually restarts without the timber. Wolves do you have a sense. During that time of what's happening with. Karl anthony towns. Yeah he's floating through life. You talk to people who are kind of connected with the team. They were certainly having regular contact as much as they could. The organization more than anything wanted to throw its arms around carl and they're not supposed to do that. You're right you can't be right next to each other and you can't be having that physical contact and so the limitations provided by the nature of the virus itself i think only exacerbated the sense of detachment for carl for the team for everyone around it and so this was a twenty four year old young man trying to figure out how best to grieve so last week town spoke on zoom call with the media new wrote that it was the first time he'd done so in nearly nine months. What did he say on that call. He sat down for the interview and my initial inclination. Was i think that he's gonna wanna just talk more about basketball. He may wanna turn the page at this point and try and get a little normalcy back but what was evident from the very first question. The very first response on was that this is still now five year old. Who is very much dealing with the grief and the struggle now as much as he ever has been and he's not ready to turn that page. Never been mentally good play since hospital today. He had kind of dropped sort of vague hints on social media through the offseason. That jackie towns was not the only loss that he had gone through and he did offer in the zoom meeting with local media that he had lost six other loved ones from covid nineteen related illnesses of seen a lot of coffins in the last seven months but eight months later. Have a lot of people who would have in my family. My family who have gotten. I'm the one looking for answers. Still trying to find out of keep them healthy whether those are exact family members or friends. He didn't specify on that end. Clear that ever since that loss. It's been a cascade of grief just raining down on him and just the night before he had given his zoom interview with us. He lost an uncle to covid and he does not believe and he told us that basketball is not going to be the therapy for him to get through this play this game more because i just i just love to watch. My family members seeming. Play a game that i was very successful. Good at and it was wrong. Smile to my mom always brought smile for me when i saw my mom at baseline in the stance and stuff and having a good time Watch me play so it's gonna be hard to play. It's gonna be difficult to say that this is therapy. His mother is so kind of ingrained in his basketball experience. And every time he's on the core and he looks into the stands and sees. Jackie like that's what brought him. Joy from basketball is seen the joy that put on his mother's face the the sense of pride that she had in all of his success and now she's not going to be there and so now basketball looks and feels completely different to him. I just thought it was very honest and very revealing of him to not take the easy way out and not give the cliche answers of. I'm going to have a refuge in the arena. John you talked about how. Karl anthony towns. His teammates and coaches wanted to be there for him earlier this year but they were somewhat limited in doing that because of the pandemic what role with a play going forward the timber wolves just through sheer bad luck and misfortune are actually probably the organization most well suited to help. Someone in towns is situation. Because ryan saunders is the head coach who lost his father. Flip saunders to cancer. When ryan was twenty nine years old you have ricky rubio just reacquired in a trade and ricky lost his mother to cancer when he was twenty five. You also have anthony edwards. The number one overall pick who lost his mother and his grandmother to cancer when he was fourteen years old. So you have this. Cocoon around karl anthony towns of people who have absolutely lived. What karl anthony. Towns is going through ricky. Rubio told me something that really resonated with me and he said you know they're going to be times when karl comes to the gym and he's showing frustration he snapping at people. And you can't figure out why and it's going to be ricky. It's going to be ryan who understand that. It has nothing to do with basketball. It has nothing to do with anything else other than he may have had. Just some sort of flash of memory of jackie towns and put him in a dark place and so we're others might say man. What is this guy's deal. There are several people in this organization. That say i know this is one of those days. And they're gonna put an arm around him and they're going to let them know that he's being heard right now and seen and understood in a.

NBA mock draft: Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball as top pick?

"Minnesota Timberwolves had these third worst record this season but won the lottery last night and we'll select first overall in the upcoming NDA draft. lamelo ball has been consistently ranked in the top three prospects. "Can improve The platform for our players for our organizations for fans for our partners throughout It's exciting you know it's it's it's not a very fun time right now but it's one of those things we have to look for creative opportunities to do to improve The game and we might be at one here now. Yeah it would be interesting because I think about things like this when you know whether it's changing just the lottery odds whether it's you know expanding all-star the all star break from a couple of days to a full week the things that Adam silver has obviously embraced because he is one whose who questions everything and says you know Just because we've always done it this way doesn't mean we should continue. Let's let's reexamine everything he was. You know his he. He said That the phrase fresh look so many times this first couple years as commissioner. I thought he was going to have to trade market. But you know this is a different one because this is this is this is adverse circumstances that go way beyond the NBA. That are that are pushing this discussion ahead and it's interesting. I would normally think the the NBA did something as dramatic as changing the League. The calendar by a couple of months not a small change the counter but a massive one. That would be something they would study for a while. You know you do it. During an era of a time of relative calm as opposed to amid a crisis. But maybe it's the crisis that accelerates this this whole thing and maybe you know maybe by the time this picks up again. We're already dealing with a new normal but it'd be interesting because I I do feel like this is something that normally. I wouldn't be surprised to the League to tackle this and even to adopt it but not you know not under under these these kinds of pressures. Where doing it this this fall in December or a winter would suddenly be the precedent for forever without more of a of a of a study time. I don't know it's it's interesting. I was at that. I was at the panel discussion. You're on with Steve Kuhn and Kevin Arnovitz but I had to duck out early so I never got to to hear the conclusion of what you guys came up with. But I had to leave early because your old boss Daryl Morey said Hey I'm finally available for your pod if you want to do it right now so when Darryl says he's got a minute especially at the Sloan Conference when he's very very busy you jump so I had to. I had to leave early but that was a fascinating discussion. Yeah nine and one thing you were referencing earlier but I do think Howard like the biggest challenge.

"Would be a welcome challenge in a welcome a problem for us to have we'd be we'd be playing again but it's something that I know. Every organization has taken seriously. Everybody is in constant contact with their players. And everybody's anxious to get their hands on their guys and get them back in to see where we're at talked to Steve Kerr a couple of days ago and when I brought up this this challenge of trying to get guys back in gear again. After a long lay-off his response was Seattle. I think we're playing again. I mean his his feelings seem to be that you know if and when the NBA gets gets going again that it's going to be straight to play offs and that a team like the warriors would not be would not be playing because the regular season would just be wiped out and part of me. That feels like again. You know as premature is it is it seems like the cleanest easiest way back to a season without having to impact next season too much would be lop off those last sixteen to. Nineteen Games teams have left on the schedule. And you know just call that the cost of of this of this crisis and move on jump straight into the playoffs. Maybe teams play a couple of exhibition games or something and that would be a huge time saver. Obviously if you're if you're not having to pack in that extra month plus of games do you have a suspicion about where that might go yourself or or or you still operating every day as if you know what we've got an I haven't looked up your number of games left. But we're we'RE WE'RE GONNA plan on those games being there until we're told otherwise. Yeah I'm not privy to any a hard facts there but I do think we've talked about it a little bit. There's a need for for games to ramp up and we've talked about. There's going to be a period of time where it's GonNa be rough.

"Of Aw site. Young AMERICA TREND COURTESY OF P. O. Rien miles how you doing. I'm the I'm the rose that grew from fourteen twelve was. Let's tell the people what's trending right now. One of the things. That's trending in Disneyland. Which is weird because I thought they were shut down. Yeah well so. Universal Studios recently came out and they're like you know. March twelfth was pretty much the day that like the theme parks like okay. I think we gotta we gotta shut this shit down. Universal was like yeah. I think we'll open up on April first and then on Tuesday. They're like you know what actually now we're going to at least be close to April Nineteenth. Disneyland it from everything I'm seeing here. Looks like Disneyland and world are still set to reopen on April first and we were like Really like as next week as in a week from today April for what was it Thursday. So I don't know I've a feeling they'll probably pushed back but as of right now a lot of people scratching their heads like come on like. Are you really believing? What the president's saying or are you also so hell bent on generating revenue near Park? They'll put the world at risk. Well they thought they thought the president's claim that we will be back open for business by Easter was incredibly pessimistic. Yeah right 'cause. Easter is a at least a week after April I. I don't know I'm a bad person who used to go to Christian school so I couldn't tell you when Easter is this year Easter twenty twenty quick Google April twelfth so they were like You're off by a couple of weeks and you're gotta get these people back on their rights. Yeah swap and spit look. Let's Talk Karl. Anthony towns trending For a depressing reason his mom is in a medically induced coma. Right now Be From Corona virus. Really hard to watch video of him. Just you know kind of breaking down and telling people to stay the fuck home awful man. That's really there's just so many people who are being affected by this right now. Yeah and it's just you know. We were saying this in the beginning of the outbreak. Like this is. One of those issues are global crises. That does it will touch you no matter where you live no matter what class. You're in it. Can it can touch you and I think yeah. Yeah when you see this especially for somebody you know we think of. We've already seen like oh well. Celebrities are getting access to test and things before this that like even in a situation like this. You're a millionaire basketball player. Your own mother comes down with it as having issue. It's just it's tragic but I think this is why we're starting to see the human toll a bit more. Because I think he was a little more abstract to people when the you know cases where like in the thousands and things like that and the and the deaths were you know and like the tens and now is that's increasing you know it's I think the issue in the severity of it is going to be even more vivid for people who maybe need that level of detail for them to act. Yeah waffle house is trending. Yeah 'cause they got the waffle house index man so the Waffle House Index. Yeah I know about that as as regards hurricanes right or preparation yen though. Like Monitor to So FEMA monitors how many waffle houses are open at any given time in a place. That's either been struck up Hurricane or about to be struck by hurricane to get a sense of basically like the preparedness and like how people are reacting and just how a region is doing because waffle houses if a waffle house can be open it will be open right Yeah but I haven't read anything about how waffle houses fairing in the corona virus quarantine or this. Dan Open would they they have. There are some that are open there some that are closed and did they say according to the Waffle House index an index red situation just because of the amount of closures there are they say like in a index yellow means waffle houses in certain locations. Have like a limited menu because that means no food. Supplies are no power or limited power. Or what have you but this is more like okay. We have places completely closed Trying to do as much as they can but an indication that yet. This is even though the once-mighty waffle house is also having to rethink staying open or not. Yeah Yeah I feel like I even really thought about that. Like 'cause I know McDonalds is like facing some pushback because they're not giving their employees paid sick leave or they. They're giving their employees at corporate stores. Paid sick leave but right chain restaurants like this. That don't have drive throughs like what? What are they planning? I mean take one I think. Yeah yeah that's the that's the most they can do. Yeah and Finally Rhino R. I N. O. I think that's how you pronounce. That is spending the president tweeted. All-Star Bam Adebayo Heats Up Miami

"That was the sound of Miami Heat Center Bam Outta Bio doing what he does best destroying souls the court now in its third year. Outta BIOS had a breakout season. Earning his first all star berth and leading the heat to a surprising start today. Espn Zach Lowe brings us the story of one of the NBA's rising superstars and tells us why not everyone saw this coming. I mean at times. It's Friday February fourteenth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Isak Meena thanks for doing this. Oh my pleasure. I like small third time. That means I'm not blowing it. Debbie's whatever the numbers say. I'm not blowing Zach Lowe is an NBA insider for ESPN. His latest piece is a profile of Miami Heat. All-star Bam Auto Bio Zach. We're coming up on the All Star game and one of the first timers this year is Bam Outta bio the Miami Heat Center. Who's in his third season has really emerged as a star? Why did you decide to write about him? I like to write one or two of these a year and I really top out at two. Because they're they're so time consuming and they take so under a port as you know but I like writing about people it's it's one of the easiest and hardest things to do right. I've come to find the sweet spot to really hit in the NBA for players is like between the fifteenth and fortieth best player in the league. Like the top fifteen guys. You're never you just don't get access to them unless you've known them for years and years and years and anything after thirty five or forty you run into like why am I reading about this guys. He that interesting for casual fans it has to be a player that I like is a player. I don't want to write about someone who's game. I just think is empty calories or whatever like I want to write about someone who I think is really good and maybe under appreciated. That's the kind of sweet spot of guy for me. So why do you like Bama's player? Big Guys who can pass are like my siren song. I I love big guys who can pass and when you watch this guy play defense even more than the defense into speed honestly is the rebounding Joe Harish for through and timed his. Jump Perfectly Blue Ray through the clouds for each verse defensive rebound in the afternoon he gets these rebounds where there's like four people under the rim jostling for position and they all jump and then from somewhere else flies in this gigantic guy with these hands that must be made of. I don't know whatever's the strongest possible material that you can make and the ball goes into this crowd of four guys and then this other guy. Just snatches it away like it's nothing. He makes the kind of place where they're winning. Plays and if they come at the right moment and a game. They're like a Gut Punch to the other team. So Zack you head down to Miami to spend time with Bam is friends and his family to get a sense of who he is. Where does history? Begin? It begins with his father leaving their family when his mother wanted to move to rule North Carolina and out of Newark New Jersey and they lived in a single wide trailer in the middle of nowhere in North Carolina and his mom as a cashier at like a meat. Grocery store kind of thing. Earning about twelve thousand dollars a year after taxes. And then all of a sudden she had a son who was twelve years old and six six and could dunk. What was it like for him? You know growing up in that trailer with his mom and no one else. You know when you're a kid you just don't think it's anything right like you don't think it's it's different or whatever. He had a sense that it was hard for his mom and that her schedule was crazy and that they didn't see each other much because their schedules didn't overlap the right way but he was happy at a lot of friends. You know it was fine but he did say by age thirteen or fourteen. You Begin to realize that this is a hard life that this adult like who you just kind of looked at. Is your mom like every other mom has a job and leaves the House. And all that that it's it's hard for her and that they don't have a lot and that she works really really hard for for what they have and that's what drove him. That's where he says he got his ambition and his anger and his desire to succeed was when he realized. My Mom's life is hard. She's tired a lot and I see that and I want to change that winded it. I become apparent to him and his family that playing basketball might be a viable career for him. Once he started playing organized basketball is not till like twelve thirteen fourteen. He picked things up really fast. And you had good natural instincts and good natural footwork by fourteen fifteen. He's on the map of all the big colleges and by the time he's junior mark godfried is helicoptering in to recruit to NC state in like Landon helicopter the field of their school. What was he like a high school player? A monster. An absolute monster have regular forty twenty games just like he was just huge. These teams in rural North Carolina. Couldn't do anything with six eight dude who could dunk? But he was incredibly unselfish. He loved playing point guard. He loved passing two people and keeping them involved. He didn't want to be the guy. Averaging Forty fifty game and putting up numbers there was a story about a guy on the end of the bench who finally got into game. All Bam did was get offensive rebounds and try to pass it in the week at score so Bam grows up in a trailer with a single mom and discovers. He's freakishly good basketball when it comes time to select a college. He chooses that. I'll take more time to University of Kentucky. How does that go first? So when you win big guys get to Kentucky and this was most famously done with Karl Anthony. Towns cal says this cool you can shoot threes like it's cool you can pass and like run the offense but like we have the Aaron Fox we have Maliki Monk. You don't get to do any of that here. My thing for him get and then. Let's really get you to play the way you're capable. You're going to set screens. You'RE GONNA post up. You'RE GONNA GET REBOUNDS YOU'RE GONNA play defense can do big man stuff because if you go to the NBA. You'RE GONNA have to that stuff well before you get to do the other stuff and so- Bam that's cool like you brought the ball up. You played point guard. Like you're not GonNa get to do that here. He would just say yeah. You know I'm just GonNa do my work like I trust cal. Cal has a record of getting these big guys drafted really hi? I'm working in practice behind. Closed doors on all the fancy stuff. Whatever it takes to win whatever cow says is good for me. I'm going to do and like I'm not going to get frustrated by it. So while he was doing all the big man's stuff and games he was working on his guard skills at practice. Yup in drills with Kenny Pain. Who's an assistant? Kentucky's very close to them. At night he would come back to the and do that. He would shoot jump shots which I. I don't know if you even shot a single three at Kentucky. I haven't checked. Even if scouts didn't see all of it to coaches and scouts would come visitor pick their brains about Bam and whether they should draft him. They would all tell them. Just be aware what you're seeing in. Games is not the full extent of what this kid can

Warriors deal Russell to Wolves, get back Wiggins

"For people that missed it. The warriors and Timber Wolves agreed on trade us in the Ngelo Russell Jacob Evans in Amari spelman to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins a a top three protected twenty twenty one first round pick and a twenty twenty two second round pick. I like to steal from Minnesota. I think Karl Anthony towns and de Ngelo. They're obviously good friends. And that's big because towns it's been very frustrated recently but again let's get back to what the warriors got back in return. I'm not a big Fan. I'm not a fan of that that contract but I guess when you're the warriors they're already a situation where a lot of their guys are locked up so I understand that for them. It doesn't matter as much for another team they just Trying to add a guy that can help them on both ends of the floor and the contract isn't as big of a deal for them. But I just think with twenty-three-year-old all-star which is what Russell was he. He was an all star last year. I just don't think that's enough to get back in return. I do like that. They got the draft pick again. Talk Re protected. Twenty twenty. One should be a much better draft twenty twenty based on what the experts are all saying so in top. You're protected. I mean this Minnesota team made it could finish between four and ten could end up being lottery picked so I do think that is very valuable. That's my favorite part of the acquisition here for the warriors I just feel like with wiggins. He's been so disappointing. Maybe maybe they feel like they can help him reach us well potential. We know they've done a very good job of developing guys. They have great leader as a strong culture which may really help someone like wiggins. This could be totally wrong around here. I will admit that maybe wiggins goes there and this is exactly what he needed to reach us and become a better player in guys like Steph and clay and dream on push push him. I just feel like how did they wait until the offseason because they couldn't afford to be patient here. There really wasn't a sense of urgency. I would like to see if there were different offers or different teams that kind of came to the table. I just don't think this is the kind of package that you pounce on when you have a great trade ship and again twenty-three-year-old all-star and no roe pressure to make a move now so but I it is newsday what you're saying. Though had Russell and curry not work together you think that Russell's trade value could have diminished. So I see what you're saying. I'm just not a big Fan. I think that's my problem here. Yeah and I think for Minnesota standpoint It's a very interesting gamble. Because of course they want him as a free agent right and it's always nice to be able to sign a young player like that. If you get the right opportunity comes along but they miss out. It's so let's remember that to make this deal happen. They basically had to ship out Jeff Teague for basically nothing it trade Covington to get some assets assets kinda like sweet things up and they have to wind up trading wiggins out. It's actually make this deal happen with golden state so I don't WANNA say Minnesota gutted their assets but they actually you. You know invest in quite a bit to get Russell. Now the upside to doing that is you're gonNA have a very exciting offensive oriented team where you've got your best players are both all three point shooters with Karl Anthony towns and Diangelo Russel and they should fit together. Great in pick and roll it could pop situations right so for a fan base. That's been through a lot here. Typical era the Jimmy Butler you know You know being upset a few years ago in the long losing streak this year. I think there are some genuine hope and optimism with that pairing between those two guys. But I think my concern is that they really have stripped out a lot of their other proven talent around them and I think that both those guys are just minus defenders and that part it makes me nervous right. Because you know if you're trying to picture these guys is like this inside outside duo right well you want at least one of them to be a plus defender. And I don't think that's it's ever GonNa Happen for either one of those guys and so now it creates some roster challenges where you have to go out and target some other perimeter defenders guys who can help cover up for Russell in towns so that you can at at least be you know average on the defensive end. If you WANNA be a winning team so I guess long story short I think they invested an awful lot of assets. Just make this Russell thing happened and I'm not totally extolled. That he's the right guy to pair with towns but big picture. They did the most important thing which is keep Karl Anthony towns happy. He's their franchise guy he's been disgruntled. You you know for for months now because of all this losing and so I think they do get a short term went out of that.

"The ease and nineties win. It was all about the post game and getting it to the big men in the in the paint and getting lamps. dunks stuff like that and you. It is a little tougher back then. I want to do the whole kids. These days are soft. Think whatever but it was a little tougher back then you had to fight for your buckets and stuff like that these days. It's all about three pointer steph curry for example kind of changed the game with three pointers. Everybody's shooting threes now. Big Guys like Porzingis and stuff like that or shooting threes and of course that's in the college level. It's kind of been the college I love for a little longer. The main reason I bring that up is because I'm going to talk about some some the rule changes and how they've kind of impacted the college basketball season so far. We're in the middle of the of the basketball season right now Some teams are doing good. Some teams are not doing so good clawson. Sorry had mentioned that so over over the offseason. The men's basketball rules rules committee extended the three point line from twenty nine inches to twenty two feet. One three quarters inches which is very specific measurement demint but so they've extended the three point line and because of this Points per game have declined by two point five on average from this time last season three point percentage has dropped by point. Nine teams are attempting point seven fewer threes per game mm-hmm so extending the three point line. It has definitely made shooting a three much more difficult to do. Some players are just not used to what I suppose. The percentage drops people are missing it but people are also just attempting fewer three pointers throughout the whole season. So that's kind of made a major impact especially with more teams that are built for the three pointer built for three point game as opposed to just just playing the paint so it was kind of a huge factor in college basketball. There's another trend. That's kind of gone on on. Apparently referees in the men's basketball have been calling fewer fouls so the the number fell steadily. It went from seventeen point nine thousand per game in the opening week of the college basketball season and then went down to who sixteen point. Eight thousand during the week ending in December fifteenth. So that's about two weeks ago. So if that friend hand held it will be declined from seventeen point eight fouls per game that were called during the twenty eight twenty nine hundred season so referees are starting to call less fouls people are complaining about it. There's enough concern that. The Chairman of Men's Ends Basketball Committee distributed a memo to coaches commissioners officiating corners referees sending a message that the rules need to be enforced more strictly so basically. He kind of told referees that we need to call more fouls some some people might disagree with this. Some people are very big on the let the kids play or let let let them let the players play especially down down unstretched but fouls are important because they keep control of the basketball game it make sure that there is no chaos going on. It's Kinda like I don't want to equate it to a prison. But that is what I'm GONNA do. It's it's bad it's bad it's bad metaphor but we're going with it anyway so like I mean you can't you can't have much prisoners and then give them the have there'd be no rules because then there's going to be more more stabbings more deaths more gang violence and stuff like that inside of a prison now obviously nothing nothing. That extreme is going to happen in college basketball. 'cause that'd be absurd but however you need to establish The rules you need to keep the roles because now for the safety of the players is one thing because I mean there are some physical. Their basketball is a physical sport. People don't think it is people don't consider it. A physical sport has like football the basketball's pretty physical and there's no padding. There's no helmet to wear L. to the faces elbow to the face. I mean. Uh It's not fun to get elbowed in the face so they need to reduce the physicality and that's that's what the that's what the national coordinator officials. Jd Collins said officials had been hesitant to enforce physicality fouls on a consistent basis. And then he said they need to stay committed to so the progress. We have made in recent years to reduce reduce the physicality in the game of college basketball stays intact so oh jd collins in case you didn't know. He is the person most Francois for deciding referee assignments during the Ucla Tournament. So this this has been heard loud and clear so in the past week after this after. This has been illustrated the two referees. They've started calling it an average of eighteen miles per game so it went from sixty point seven to eighteen in about a week this progress however Kinda got short lived it only for like a week because in the following week calls for game dropped again to sixteen point seven zero kind of an empty there's an empty fulfilment of this. I wouldn't say the threat but this empty moment of whatever Collins said the memo that he sent so the average numbers of fouls called the season was seventeen point. I four down from eighteen point four last point last year at this point Collins mentioned that he's watched about a game person says he sees a notable the difference he said they the officials kind of need to reset. which I don't this? Is this an interesting one because nobody wants to see more house because fouls are obviously detrimental to either your team or they can be used as an excuse for why your team beat the other our team so fouls fowler. It's a tricky situation. We obviously don't want rest calling phantom fouls just to get them bring the numbers up because I would just make the game unwatchable especially during a season which I mentioned earlier players are having difficulty adjusting to the move back three point line so it's kind of important that there's consistency with this with these foul calls. You can't you just can't can't have phantom calls out of nowhere because I I'll just make people angry. MAKE PEOPLE NOT WANNA watch and make players frustrated which might lead to more fouls I mean it could just be the fact that players are playing cleaner. I mean probably not but you know it's it's fun to look at it that way but I'm very interested in what everybody else thinks about this. I mean you can let me know how you feel about this. How you feel about these This decrease in fouls if you watch college basketball and you haven't noticed that at all I mean I guess it's not that big of a deal. It's just an interesting stat that I found foul reading some articles on the athletic and I thought it was a very interesting fact. I I thought it was very interesting that they actually made a memo saying. Hey we need to call more fouls and then it worked for like a week and then when the fouls the fouled went down again the next week. So it's very interesting so I'm not sure if it's just rafts just being more lenient or players are playing better or I don't know I mean it could be any of those things but yeah so to continue on with the weird injury that I talked the last segment in the next segment. I'm GonNa talk about the history of weird sports injuries. So you got is mostly baseball There's a lot of baseball injuries like getting bit by a spider or like falling down stairs or stuff like that. I'll talk about some of the most subserve ones in the next and final segment so please stick around after this break for some injury rankings. I suppose does check out.

"So there is a rumor circling around it was tweeted by NBA Central. That Karl Anthony towns might be unhappy with the with the Minnesota Timberwolves which is understandable as the timber. Wolves had very high expectations nations. This year and they are ten and seventeen the twelfth of the twelfth in the League. kind of a disappointing year. So far the timber wolves and they might be able to turn around highly doubt it there. Anthony towns is that there are only good player. People have been tweeting. Free Cat all over the place place. So yeah and the reason that this rumor Kinda came up was because the the golden old say warriors are starting to look into Karl Anthony towns. They're looking to see if they They could probably jump in there and trade which makes sense as has the warriors are also going through a very down year but it's kind of a down year for a for a pretty good reasons. I mean you don't have steph curry. You don't have Klay Thompson. So they're kind of using this as a rebuild year and they really accumulated their assets and they are. They're they're young. Players are starting to improve and trade options are multiplying so he is so so the warriors they currently had they currently called up from the G.. League Alan Smile which I hope I said that correctly but I'm not sure his nicknamed Smiley highly. Some can call them from that from now on so if you get confused just remember smile. GIC is hard to say Smiley. It's pretty easy to say. So so so smiley you got caught up play in a recent game against the Dallas Mavericks and he had a pretty good showing when you play twenty minutes. He's been dominating in the G. League so it's a good prospect for the warriors. Have and then you have him include. Then you have Damian Lee who's twenty seven years old. He He's been scraped his way from the G. League. He's playing so so he's praying. He's playing pretty good for the warriors so far I mean as good as they can play I suppose then. Of course you have Diangelo Russel so Daniel Russell. There's some prey their trade opportunities there for Dangelo Russell. He's had a pretty solid year and there might be some. There might be some concerns about when Steph curry comes back. We'll de Ngelo Russell takeaway from Steph curry game. So I mean Diangelo Russel will probably probably get traded for some assets and the warriors words like using this as a pretty much rebuild year which is a smart mart. Move because the best opportunity to do it. Because your fans aren't down on you because they kinda understand that steph curry worry Klay Thompson you're out. You're playing with pretty much a G. League team at the moment caps may the cap situations not the best So getting Karl Anthony. Towns would definitely help that out especially they keep dream on green. So you have a potential starting rotation of Steph clay play Draymond and Karl Anthony towns which that's a pretty solid lineup. It's not as good as their lineup. With K B but it kind of adds onto getting the NBA talent that the warriors Kinda used to getting now. So they've been monitoring Karl Anthony towns with Minnesota. So Karl Anthony towns is still under contract. Twenty two twenty three twenty four season so that means they have trade for because he's there there for a little bit longer. Like I said earlier the Wolves Thirteenth Thirteen twelve or thirteenth in the western conference there only two spots ahead of the gap year warriors and like I said the warriors they kind of have a reason to be this bad but D- Timber Wolves do not so the T. wolves they there's a potential that the ngelo Russell could get traded or Russell could go to the wolves as he's good friends with townes it just really depends. I don't really know what a good trade between these teams would be. I don't really know enough about the T.. Wolves to be honest but the warriors the warriors the stories about the warriors rebuild in my opinion of the rebuilds having lights be they have much these. Are these young players that are very that are playing really well. They have these high high ceilings in my opinion. So if Karl Anthony towns there are other teams that could potentially get in here. I apologize there are other teams that could potentially getting here and get the New York Knicks. You got the Boston Celtics. Of course Danny Ainge is always down for a good trade. So I mean they could offer hayward probably not I wouldn't I wouldn't recommend that one but the T. Wolves are in shambles. The warriors are ready to get back up to the upper echelon of the NBA. This down year is definitely really not going to be is definitely not going to be a long term thing. I know a Lotta people want it to be. But Steve Kerr sue good coach. The warriors are just a very well run organization as when people are complaining about the warriors with K. D.. I was sitting here the whole time and I was just like. Why are you complaining? The warriors did did whatever organization is trying to do. They drafted players develop them to be all stars and then they signed another all star to Round out the team. I know people are angry because they already won a championship without Katie and then they signed Katie. But you can't tell me no other franchise wouldn't have done that so you can't heat the warriors for doing pretty much. What is expected of organizations especially good organizations to I do so like I said they drafted Steph clay and dream on? They develop them make them into fantastic players and then they picked up an all-star from they picked up a big free agent from another team. I mean that's what the Lakers did. They picked up Lebron James after they've cultivated olives house talent and then they traded that talent for another all star for. Anthony Davis the one team that I can The heat didn't do that. The Lakers old did that when they had Kobe Bryant and shack most teams do this. This is a hey. This is a pretty basic thing that most organizations do so. I don't understand hate for the warriors there. This is not this is not going to be a long term thing because because it's a very well run organization kind of goes back to the culture thing. I mean cultures. The thing and basketball's well you still have steph curry on the sidelines. All the time. You have Klay Thompson hanging hanging out there. I feel like he every time he gets asked whether or not he wants to go somewhere else. Who just like why would I so draymond dream on dream on? Everyone has different opinions on Draymond so mean he it depends how you feel about dream on but but the bottom line is Karl Anthony towns unhappy with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the warriors warriors looked into it so this is just a rumor possibly nothing could happen out of this. But the T.. Wolves do have a history of losing big stars they They lost Kevin Garnett way back when so I mean there. There's a history of losing these these big stars because they they just don't get anything done some fans of said that he deserves better which is true. T. Wolves just a disappointing season. You can't really get beyond how disappointing the season was there. Were supposed to be at least top six in the League in the in their conference and their thirteenth right. Now they're too like I said they're two spots above the warriors. Who are God awful? Why wouldn't say gobble? There's potential for the warriors but it's not going well for the T.. Wolves so it's Kinda understandable. That Karl Anthony towns has issues. I know he had issues with the organization beforehand. But like I said everything here speculative. It's just something I saw is the big news story of the NBA for the day. So some all of this could have could not be true but we'll find out so in the next segment like mint. I'm GonNa talk about a funny story that happened while funding depending on who you talk to but it was funny story that happened in the NBA. That I would like to talk about and I'll we'll be right after we get back..

"Today's episode. So the Tuesday edition we'll be talking about a little. NFL BE RECAP and this week in the NFL. Dog Mount the playoff matchups. And after that will head into Karl Anthony towns. My WanNA leave Minnesota. So we'll talk about that and other NBA news and then at the end and we'll have another fun segment. You know maybe right So let's let's get right into it. Let's just recap the NFL week. Seventeen the last the last week of the NFL season We'll just go down every single game. We'll talk about all of the all of the matchup said we'll I'll I'll give you the scores. We'll talk about something interesting about each matchup. So let's get right into it. We got the steelers. I of the Ravens This game didn't really mean anything. The steelers steelers needed to win to make the playoffs but the steelers also need the time to lose so the steelers were not in charge of their own destiny at all in this game but it didn't didn't matter. They play the Ravens team without Lamar Jackson without mark. Ingram and lost twenty ten. So the ravens they move onto a franchise is record. Fourteen win season fourteen to have first round by they have home field band out the play offs and the steelers will be sitting at home after a very interesting season season for the steelers. I don't WanNa say it was a disappointing season. Because after Ben Rothlisberger went down it could have been a lot worse. uh-huh they traded for meek offense. Patrick that went really well and the fact that they ended the season out. Eight is pretty impressive. On Mike Tomlin's part on the whole organizations part because it is the steelers they could have easily just tanked and try to get the number one pick or something like that. Aw but they kept fighting. They made a big trade Trade for top ten top ten draft prospect convince convinced Patrick and only lost I think pick nineteen in the first round so you know not too bad for the steelers. They'll definitely bounce back next year Next up we got another game that really matter that much get the bills and the jets. The bills lost to the jets. Thirteen six which is a little concerning. The bills have only been one playoff team this whole year. Now's the titans. And they lost the six thirteen six interesting factoid about the jets. Though they won the last six they won six out of the last eight games. They started the season I wanted. Seven ended seven and nine which is pretty solid turnaround. ICEE because they were not they were visible in the beginning of the year so the fact that they've really turned it around next up. We got the saints versus the Panthers. This gain Gain that the saints had a very slim chance at getting first rabbi but they ended up not getting it. They're actually they're actually going to be. I think second thirteen and three team the play in the wildcard round and they were the first team was the saints so not unfamiliar territory for the New Orleans Saints here. They've eleven games with thirty plus points this season most in the NFL. They won forty two ten. Because the panthers the panthers now turn earn their attention to looking for a new head coach and seeing if Cam Newton can become healthy and bounce back next up we got a game. That definitely doesn't matter adder. The browns Bengals browns. The browns lost thirty three twenty three. So the whole the whole Cleveland Brown one of the most disappointing seasons including Brown's history which is really saying something bengals however tied for tied to their worst record in franchise history with two and fourteen. They could've had it. They lost but they just weren't great enough or worse bad enough something like that next the NFC east battle which everybody loves redskins is three thirteen years. The cowboys cowboys one. Forty seven sixteen cowboys had the chance of making the playoffs win. This game started but a The Eagles put away the giants. which we'll talk about later so? The Eagles clinched in the middle of this game but the cowboys won forty seven sixteen. I mean pretty good showing they end the season an eight. which is I mean? It's all right but I mean Jason Garrett this is ten season or something like that with the cowboys and going a names probably not ideal but we'll see what happens there. I'll talk about in the next segment when I talk about the coaching changes and coaching carousel of the NFL l.. And so we'll we'll talk about later so next time we got the packers alliance packers needed to win this game to clinch a first round by in the NFC and they did did that in a closer than it should have been game They won twenty. Three twenty against the Lions They didn't the packers. Did Not look good at all in in this game but they pulled out the victory to clinch that first round by Next up had in my opinion one of the more one of the Games that I said that we need to keep track of during the years. The Tennessee titans whereas the Houston Texans. Towns need to win to clinch a playoff berth. Get a wildcard spot. And they did that in a not interesting fashion. They won thirty five fourteen. Texas had much to play for because they've already cliffs division so I can see how there's a little bit no motivation or anything like that move on to a gain that didn't matter colts Jaguars I know. The colts had a very off chance and making the playoffs. But it will probably wasn't going to happen so they lost thirty eight twenty garments shoes show shows promise ended his his season as a rookie card. Back then some of the other rookies that are around the league which is surprising because he's around six round pick so interesting fact toward here. Jaguars undefeated home in week. Seventeen Games they're seven and nine all time so maybe one day they'll play a game that matters and week seventeen. Who knows so? Then we move onto the chiefs for charters chiefs chiefs needed to patriots loss and then they needed to win to clinch the first round by. And that's exactly what happened cheese one thirty one. twenty-one insecure that first first round by bears versus Vikings game didn't really matter all that much because the bears couldn't make the playoffs and the Vikings I think already clench but the bears one. twenty-one Nineteen Ms Trubisky at three thousand yards passing yards two straight seasons which is Kinda shocking walking considered. He was not considered a great player throughout this year but he still got three thousand passing yards which might be more of a indication of where the NFL is how offenses are now in the current day NFL Patriots versus Dolphins Patriots needed to win the Clinton Rabbi but they did not lawsuit the dolphins who Kinda turn their season around not really I mean dolphins ended five and eleven which should after the first six or so games. I would not expect that. And I didn't expect them to beat the Patriots definitely so then being the patriots as probably the biggest upset of the week and the Patriots will be playing in the wildcard round for the first time since twenty eleven. So we'll see how that goes move onto eagles for his giants giants as I stated earlier ingles clinch their clothes their ticket to the playoff close to the NFC e the NFC East victory. Thirty four. Seventeen then he got a game that it doesn't Matter Falcons buccaneers twenty. Twenty two falcons. Then you got the raiders. Which I mentioned they? They needed a laundry list of things to happen for them to make the playoffs. But they didn't do do the first thing on that list which was win. And they lost to the broncos fifteen to sixteen cardinals versus Rams Neither team make the playoff round rand one thirty one twenty four and then the big game of big game of the week was the forty niners for the seahawks winner clinches the division and gets home field advantage. I think that was what it was. I think this is the home vange so pretty big game biggest game the week forty nine one. Clinton Division clinched homefield advantage throughout throughout the rest of the playoffs. Got The first round by they won. Twenty six twenty one so in case you need to know your the matchups for this week which I'll go more in depth and and in the next show on Thursday but you have the Texas versus the bills. That's the fourth thirty-five game on Saturday That should be an interesting match up the bills kind of stumbling into this. After losing the jets Patriots Titans Patriots of stumbling into this losing to the dolphins titans kind of have all the momentum going into this this but it is the Patriots so I wouldn't expect too much. I don't have too much confidence in Tennessee because they are going against the New England patriots in the playoffs. So we'll see how that goes then Sunday January fifth the NFC plays you've got saints. Vikings was kind of a rematch of the Minnesota Miracle That should be a good game. I believe then next you have the seahawks versus the eagles. This four forty game Sunday evening. that game like I said we'll go more in depth on it on Thursday but that game doesn't really interest me all that much. I feel like the Eagles Kinda struggled out the whole year and the only reason they're in the playoffs is because because they're in the NFC east so yeah so I mean those are the Games. It's a decent. It's a decent Batra around for a while around games but it could be better but when we get back from the break. We'll be talking about black Monday. Okay and the coaching changes. That have happened so far in the. NFL.

So you're trying to tell me that the Indian military. This is the military. You're trying to tell me that they're what just doing it for doing it for the yuks trying to get some retweets. Okay.
