I wanna tell I wanna know if you can tell if I'm singing or not. I want you to be able to tell if I if I'm blending in or not. Okay. So you want to ruin the Bank. So make sure we're all on the same page win the battle ruin their appearance. So we're going to get to the government shutdown here in just a moment, but we're still dealing with the fallout of General Mattis, leaving the White House. Now, a lot of people Niger pointing to a statement that Mattis made a few months ago about troops overseas to show that President Trump is one hundred percent wrong about wanting to pull the military out of Syria and Afghanistan, if we leave twenty odd of the most dangerous terrorist groups in the world centered in that region, and we walked out of there than we know what will happen. Our intelligence services are very specific that we will be under attack. In a number of number of years. I I wanna know. Okay. That's fine. But who who is Trump listening to now? Madison's gone. Who is he who's he getting his advice from Jared Kushner? Foreign policy expert that is Jared Kushner. Like, why did why didn't Trump bring Madison to begin with? He didn't see eye to eye with him on the foreign policy. Trump Mattis new Trump was in America, I can a non interventionist I want to bring the troops home. I want to reduce the size of military scope worldwide and build up here. I why why did he bring him on in the first place if they were going to butt heads? There was also some mixed signals though. Because at one point Donald Trump dropped the IMO AB bomb, the mother of all bombs that was as it was known as. Yeah. But I'm not sure the president of a really fully bought into that strategy in Syria. I mean at first it was just all about ISIS. It was about string ISIS getting in there getting out now like over this past year. It's become more about Iran and Turkey and Russia, so sort of a proxy war going on there against those. I I I don't know. I do want to know I would like to figure out who Trump's listening to now. Because all the guys that we, you know, we always say, well, at least Trump is surrounding himself. This guys. That have the know what to do in foreign policy wise on the world stage of negotiated stuff. Like madiba, Tillerson of McMaster of staff Kelly. They're all gone. It's Mattis was the one guy that the never Trumpers and the Trump train members. All kind of. Agreed. Yeah. That's the guy. That's the adult in the room. That's the guy. That knows this stuff isn't screwing around here. Even folks on the left, you know, they may hate Donald Trump with the passion of million fires. But they knew mad dog Mattis was the real deal. And now that he's on his way out the question becomes why? Because they just kind of feels like and again, this is coming from a Trump guy. I I'm all in. I'm on the Trump train, rob Kendall's the conductor. I've got a coach ticket. I'm on the Trump train, the Disney does it feels like the same mistake that Obama made when you leave too early and you allow what he called the JV squad develop into something bigger and stronger, which ultimately became ISIS. There. There's only two thousand some odd troops in Syria to begin with who mainly there for training purposes. Which many think about that one time there's a one hundred thousand soldiers in in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't know. I don't know how much of a difference two thousand troops who were mainly there for training purposes. Gonna make that you're sitting here with me. Going against what Mattis said, so what do I know somebody some of the possible names being rumored now retired army General Jack Kane now you see him on FOX quite a bit. He's one of the analysts. They bring on this is a very outspoken, dude. Kind of along the same lines of Mattis if I'm understanding things correctly. And also another name being talked about a Senator Tom cotton. He's part of the armed forces committee, the Intel committee that's another guy who could be in position to take that position of secretary of Deval, Donald Trump quoted another general this morning on Twitter, Anthony Tatum who's been on Fox News before who was a long time. He was an army ranger is Brigadier General. And now he's been retired for ten years. He writes fiction novels now, but Trump quoted him today saying I think the president is making the exact right move in Syria interests might be another name in the mix there. They see definitely I on that the other big story is the government shutdown, and if we're gonna talk about the government shutdown, we need the official government shutdown music..

"Ryan is that what you're trying to tell me teach them a couple tricks. Now to open a beer. Without getting little slobbery. How to make a gin and tonic how to make a o and seven Abby trick member. Alex from stroz spuds MacKenzie. Oh, my dog does not get the ladies is French. It's oh God. Nine. Oh, eight Garrett Lewis with you canines AM seven ninety Tucson's. Most stimulating talk. Thank you so much. Yeah. That's what it is. Yes. Should I bring 'em in bring them all? No, no, no three things. I think you need to know briefings. I think you need to know number one is President Trump apparently is a meeting right now, we're will meet shortly with Republicans from the Senate try to work out a game plan because Mitch McConnell has no idea. Do a trucker Mwanza to continue offering shame warrior and not any more money for the wall or. Nope. Not having in that way. Second thing. I think you need to know is the house the house passed a funding Bill to keep the government up and running and also five point seven billion dollars specifically for a wall for border security. It could be used away the president wants to use it. There are no strings attached. Awesome. Awesome. Third thing. I think you need to know is also the fact that President Trump is pushing Mitch McConnell to use the nuclear option, which he should which he should the nuclear option, which means fifty one votes instead of sixty he tweeted Mitch who's the nuclear option, we're counting on you. I love it three things. I think you need to know. And I'm looking at this other stuff more than the cake story in just a second. But I'm looking at is a democratic congressman John Garam Mindy. On CNN this morning said the loss of Madison is a very serious crisis for the country in the world. Again, didn't say a damn thing when Obama fired General Mattis. When he was the head of central command Centcom in two thousand thirteen when he fired him without even telling them that you're fired. Come on. Right. Give me a break. You just didn't want to work for the president. Wait and see. How is simple as that? Before I get to more about the cake story. There's a lot of stupid people writing things about Mattis. Getting can I mentioned in the last hour. Eric Erickson, a never-trumper? An alleged conservative never-trumper tweeted out yesterday, if we lived in a lesser country than our great nation today is the day we really would be talking about a military coup. Unbelievable because Mattis resigned soldiers down to the enlisted ranks are raising hell about the president Syria decision. He then tweeted about calling for a coup, I'm saying the number of officers and enlisted were venting to reporters is off the charts. I right now, and they all seem pretty pissed. Pretty pissed. Well, I got this. Now, they take it for what it's worth. A staff sergeant has written me an Email. Good morning Garrett. I heard you report that the enlisted were upset about us leaving Syria from what I know being enlisted currently and have been for years. I don't hear that from my troops. Here. They are sad because Mattis step down. But it's not because we are maybe leaving. We've been fighting a war in quotes. He writes soon after I joined we are still in that war. And now, I have young troops. That are joining that never saw the towers get hit because they were not alive. We want war we can win and my generation Syria is a non winner. We will just be there forever. Like Afghanistan, we need to do with the president says and win for once just my two cents. Thank you for your time and your reporting. Well, thank you for your service. Thank you very much. God bless we have a merry Christmas. And I hope you stay safe. That's a big deal. Right. I mean, it's a huge deal. So think about this again if people are upset how can we do this Syria? Russia's gonna take over China's gonna take over they do have a dictator. Well, they're going to do business with them. So so what do what do we do series the middle of a civil war right now where they have a dictator, and they have some people that want to fight for their freedom. They should fight for their freedom. We've helped them enough they should fight. They should do something. Right. Shouldn't they? What's the winning people wanna stay there? What's the wind is the wind just to make sure Russia doesn't have influenced is that is that the win. What's the wind? What what what is it called how much should we continue to risk lives of Americans and the cost to taxpayers billions of dollars and lives, which are much more important. For Syria to somehow solve their own problem of a civil war if Bouchara Assad takes regains control the country's a dictator. We keep an eye on them. If there's a threat to us. We do what needs to be done rights. But if he wants to do something and team up with a bad guy in enemy. That's his choice. And then they're going to be consequences for it, by the way. But we're not to be here to preemptively stop that. Make sure that bad things don't happen here, especially by the way, Democrats want. They're upset about this. We need to be there to protect Syrian Syrians. But we can't build the damn border wall to protect Americans. You gotta be freaking kidding me. So. I'm I'm over that. I think there are a lot of Americans that are over that. I think military sitting there going why are we even here in this aspect, and it's true? And again, this is not this is not something Trump is just thrown out there. He campaigned on this. And by the way. Yeah. This this is. Trump tweeted this out general Anthony, Tatum author of dark winter said, quote, I think the president is making the exact right move in Syria all the geniuses who are protesting the withdrawal of troops from Syria or the same geniuses who cooked the books on ISIS intelligence and gave rise to ISIS. I was gonna say just like people thought John McCain. Well, the media the John McCain was a military genius. And I was asked people what what did John McCain ever do that was actually correct? I'm still waiting what foreign.

"At jimbotalks. And we are delighted to be joined again by retired army Brigadier General, Anthony Tatum Tony has again, the written a wonderful good read which by virtue of his expertise. Also has heavy overtones of what might actually happen. This. What is called dark winter is Jake Mohegan novel. It's published by Kensington and Tony thanks for being back on the program. Great to be with you. Jim let's start with just a general outline here. It is a cyber warfare story. And it is a pretty attests without giving away too much. What takes place at the outset. You know, just the bottom line is a tech magnet. Bored with his life gained control of the world nuclear arsenals. So that he can impose his globalist agenda on the world. And in particular, the United States of America. So that's I would say the log line. You've got the protagonist is our our favorite hero. Jake. Megan native American from the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the former delta force, and he sort of works off the books with the joint special operations command commander, and he is called into action at the he's vacationing on Baldet island with his girlfriend and gets called into action to go go global everything so far in the series has been sort of the eastern United States area. And here we've got Jake in Iran and North Korea on your fighting Russians and so forth, and we we've not seen that before with Jake. And and so this is a very. Different type of thriller that I've gotten Jake involved in here, and he's up against a genius. Ian, gorham of a company called Mana Slough, which is one of the tougher mountains in the himalayans Manslu mountain as one of the practice melons for climbing Mount Everest, and so and Goram named his company after that mountain because he's a mountain climber, and he has overtaken Facebook, Amazon and Google and has the largest market cap and all of the tech industry, and and after last week's sell off that might not be so hard to do. And and then we've got Ian that wants to impose his agenda on the United States in particular. It's a fascinating prospect as I say side for being a great read the notion of Armageddon going private sector. I'd ever even thought of that before. Well, you know, think of think of the control that. Jack Twitter has he you know, if if he wants to silence, somebody just points a finger and says, hey, remove this supporter of President Trump from Twitter. Think of the number of people that have made threats against President Trump that are not removed from Twitter and same with Facebook or Google or Amazon the power that these CEO's have and their staffs their their bureaucracies are are are where a lot of this happens. And so you have a lot of people in the in the mid level management that have unbelievable power to just take somebody's Facebook page down. Even though it's you know, it runs their business so to speak, and that that these organizations are reflections of the personality and the beliefs of their CEO's, and if they lean in one direction, most of the people had organization, you know, the old saying that the organization takes on the personality of its leader while you can silence people you can hack into different weapons systems. And ultimately, I don't think it's a stretch that you could gain control of. Nuclear weapons. The that that that in itself is kind of scary. I think most of us would would say, well, theoretically, but that is a stretch. I mean, again from our our our lay experience and knowledge, I suppose, coupled with our most fervent hopes that it would be at least a stretch that it can't be that easy can it. Well, if a fifteen year old can hack into Whitehall, which is a British equivalent of the Pentagon and get inside their top secret database. I I don't think it'd be too hard for the geniuses at Google and Facebook or some fictional company named manslaughter to get into a nuclear databases. Everything is Hackel. That that's one of the things that I learned with all my research is that there is nothing that cannot be cracked. And and that is the scary part. And then when you think about. Artificial intelligence and machine learning there's a big element of that in this book as as weapons systems began, you know, if they're just a little bit off they learned from that. And then they're more accurate, and they keep moving they need. They know when they need to be refuelled. The the the fuel trucks are called forward at certain points. And and it automates it's called computer optimized warfare com. More in the book, you know, the the rank alliance Russia Iran North Korea against you know, the world and they have computer optimize warfare. Commodore. You have in the book dark winter. Hackers infiltrating the US military computers US missile strike the wrong targets defense systems fail. Power grids. Go down. Did you come up with with anything that that the surprised and frightened even you? Well, it all. Frightens me, quite frankly, when you think about the ability right now, our our cyber command four star command and Maryland and around the world, deployed, we we're we're a rope a dope, we're defense. There's all son, Suzanne, if you defend everywhere you defend nowhere. And meanwhile, you've got North Korea China Russia other countries that do defensive and offensive cyber. And so just imagine if you were in a fifteen round boxing match with Joe Frazier, and all you did was take punches, and you just took as many punches you could. And and you hung in there for fifteen rounds in never landed a punch. Well, that's how we are in the cyber domain. We there's a big debate on all right now about offensive cyber from from an American standpoint, and whether or not it's the legal moral ethical thing, are you. Are you kidding me? Serious a debate. With national survival at stake. There is a debate about that. Yeah. Well, you know, there are there. Many many of these people believe that the internet is supposed to be used for only good stuff. And and so Jim, it's it's one of these things where you get down into it. And obviously there's a very nefarious part of the internet that everybody knows about. And we just really don't wanna acknowledge it in sorrow. It is it is a huge point of discussion in policy about whether or not the United States should be conducting offensive cyber operations that that that is worthy of following up a bit here on the that that this kind of discussion might take place in some ivory tower isolating. What's happening now? I can understand that. But the actual the actual circles of power where decisions can be made. There are people this naive who are actually possessed authority. And you know, Jim, it's we're we're walking a fine line here. But the that that is that is a debate right now that's going on. And it's something that, you know, the United States needs to take a hard look at. And I think what the president has done is. Assigned some. Legislation and the law that allows us to better get after finding a attacking the networks, and that kind of thing finding the networks and then being able to do something about those networks at our attacking us. And and so I think we're moving in the right direction in that regard. I would certainly hope so I mean if you are in a conflict that involves the survival of the country and somebody introduces their junkyard dog. We better have a junkyard velociraptor. I mean, I. That that may be the most astounding thing we've learned tonight. Okay. Anthony, j tater our guest the book dark winter, and we're gonna come back and take a look at both the story the work of fiction without giving anything away. And also at the underlying sorted twenty-first-century truths that are behind this notion..

"Business flash Bloomberg. World headquarters I'm Charlie Pellett stocks. Are extending, their. Drop the dollar gaining. On the Turkey crisis right now the SNP down, twenty two down eight tenths of one percent the Dow near session lows down two. Hundred thirty five down nine tenths of one percent NASDAQ down fifty seven or dropped their of seven tenths of one percent tenure up seventeen thirty seconds the yield two point eight six percent. Gold down one tenth of one percent twelve eleven the ounce west Texas intermediate crude up one percent sixty seven forty. Eight for barrel of WTI I'm Charlie pelletan that is a Bloomberg business, flash all right Charlie thank you so much certainly one of the big stories of the day if. Not the big story is Turkey. Edging closer to a full blown financial meltdown, we did have a headline just cross, Turkey saying it will retaliate to the US raising tariffs this coming from the angelou agency so we're tracking that let's get into turkey because you've got a lot going on a lot going on in that nation peter cheers head of make a macro strategy at academy securities based in connecticut inner bloomberg eleven three s studio right here in new york city also with us retired brigadier general anthony tatum he's advisory board member also add academy and he's on the phone from alexandria virginia peter i want to start with you you don't own turkish debt but you have looked at emerging market debt in the past have owned it when you look at this situation how do you see it we've stayed outside of turkey for quite a while we had a very strong you on the geopolitical side that they were moving away from the west with moving away from nato so this is kind of taken on an extreme thing but you're seeing that affects move and what really concerns us is they have about sixty billion dollars worth of foreign debt so international debt that's problematic right that is a very large amount of debt it's starting now to impact other e._m. countries so you're seeing e._m.'s a whole sell off in the back of this there will be a buying opportunity we think not yet and definitely not turkey And so I want to bring you in here because you're one of the issues with Turkey seems to be that it wasn't that long ago that we were looking at a situation where Turkey was sort of coming along and seeming sort of progressive geopolitically what's. Changed here Yeah you're Jackie right they were moving toward your partnership with the EU they've been a long standing in. The waiting line to be full partner with the EU and, and recently after. The coup attempt I think, or did know who to trust plus if you recall. During the second Gulf war laid denied our passage through, Turkey to attack into Iraq from the north and so there's always been some. Kind of tension with Turkey a NATO member but at the same time it's it's someone who's got the. Kurds in the west they've got the ISIS fighting along their border with Syria and they're on its three dimensional chess saw in Turkey out so to speak and now what we're seeing a drifting away as Peter said from the west and toward rusher quite frankly and I think what President Trump is doing here is watching Turkey move toward Russia with by buying missiles from Which is in violation of sanctions and. Plus they're holding captive your American pastor there and. There are some other issues and I. Think the president is leveraging economic power yeah and I think this ties in another reason Mark a little bit more. Spooked as they move towards Russia that's going to complicate our relationship with Russia which is already a difficult relationship well who helps them, or who, bells them out maybe, ultimately, or is that? What you see is that is that what you. See us going I think you know the risk is that they kind of you know get more and more embedded into Russia, we've missed, opportunity after opportunity I really thought. Say, Venezuela which was having a lot of trouble we it'd be the one to go in fix up their oilfields as. A general like to say you know business tends to follow, the flag and. Yet it was India that, went there in fixing it outright so I think we've. Lost our way on that we have too many things, going on so I think we run the real risk of pushing Turkey further. Away to the east and into Russia into China has the US lost its way or has the US. Beta choice that I ask that because you had President Trump tweeting today here you know turkeys coming undone the Era. Is tumbling and then you. Have President Trump, kind of, doubling down when it comes to tariffs. Peter, yeah I think a lot of this, would fit into the general been seeing kind of geopolitically, but we, have been stepping back from regions and general I want to bring you in here because to that. Exact point because it wasn't so long ago in. Fact it could be measured in weeks. Then President Trump was at a summit with Ladimir Putin and notably at a recent meeting was kind of hanging out. Tease the technical term with president Erta one so I mean this is a very complicated relationship to say the least where does it, go from, here in your, estimate Well you know I think the president is pretty savvy negotiator and what he puts. A, lot of trust faith and confidence and personal relationship at the same time this administration is, in one of the best I've ever seen that leveraging. The elements of national power which are diplomatic information military economic and you can pull each of those. Levers one, at a time or all at. A time to get whatever strategic affect you want it, what he's doing here is he's polling that economic lever for different reasons because diplomatically they're not backing away. From Russia they're, not handing over the captive and so forth and so. He's saying all right you wanna play that game I can I can, have a personal relationship with you but I'm still going to act in America first geopolitical Mr. so general data you don't, see that, president moves today as reckless you see them as strategic absolutely strategic I think the president and his national security team are very strategic they're. Taking every region you're looking at the number of fires he got handed and it's, not by coincidence that he's taken. The strong action against Turkey once we've kinda got. ISIS in the bag, you know, we kind of needed Turkey From? An intelligence standpoint at a military base standpoint to continue. The fight against, ISIS we kinda got that in the bag they're in Syria and now he's taken the strong stop where Turkey reprising against us it's, not as impactful in the ISIS so Peter what do. We do from an investor's perspective how do we read this in the financial markets I think I, you stay away, from Turkey as an investment I think there's too much risk that. This continues to evolve does it. Spread though I can donate vendor contagious contained, so I think you're gonna wanna start adding some, EM, in. The meantime I, think you wanna take some money out of high. Yield and actually put it, in d.. Because if the continues to get worse high yields kind of the. Next to go in. Line one thing that I found really. Interesting is that bitcoin is actually selling off during this whole week and to me you. Would have thought in a sort of emerging, markets crisis, bitcoin certainly whenever North Korea It had something going? On that rallied so I don't know whether that's completely. Lost its way, not that it's true investment necessarily but that's kind of caught my eye way from this the treasury rallies probably a little bit overdone, so I kinda take advantage of that take some profits. There I don't think this is going to hit the US economy at all I think the US, stock market reactions, about right now down one percentage that feels about right given the. Size of this right Yeah to be amazing to watch general Tatum I'm expecting that maybe this could be the basis for your new novel Bestselling author after all.
