"For our best and worst of the weekend, Joker went for 35 20 and 11, his 27th triple double this season, but the nuggets lost to the nets and let's see James Harden. James Harden quietly has had a very good year. And he had 14 assists last night. So he said 31 games this season with at least ten assists in there. Quietly, had a good season there. Leading the league and assist. All right, fritzi just sent me a picture of Dylan dreyer. First submitted bracket in the celebrity bracket challenge Dylan dreyer first went in. What do you mean first one in? Of the celebrities that we invited to participate in filling out bracket sheets Dylan dreyer just in a little while. And she works NBC Today Show handles the weather does a number of other things, but mainly a meteorologist. You're very excited about it. I am actually very, very underrated and she's very sweet. It's very cool that she filled one out. How do you know she's sweet? I just get that impression. She gives up that vibe of being very common. No, she's a pretty woman. She's a professional professional broadcaster. Seems like she's a nice person. And she looks like she's sweet. And you know what? Maybe we're disparaging her right now, maybe she's probably. I've seen the people on it. I know, but Todd doesn't know she's sweet. I'm sure she's delightful. But there's people on air and reporters and stuff that give you that vibe of like I bet you that person up the air is a real pain there. Like who? I don't know because he wouldn't know some of these local people. But sometimes you see someone like, I don't know, I bet you that person is very difficult. Did you see Hugh Grant on the red carpet being interviewed? And first of all, I think they had one of those models Ashley Graham, she's a plus size model, swimsuit model, I guess. And she shouldn't be doing the interviews. Because it's difficult to be there and asking a couple of questions and trying to get in and out of this doing live TV. And he did not help her out at all. At all. And had an eye roll at the end of it. I'm like, come on, dude. You know? You can tell that she is nervous. She's struggling a little bit here. It could have helped her out a little bit. Let's see. Todd, best and worst of the weekend. All right, so the family started watching the beginning of the ACC title game between duke and Virginia Saturday night, went to a commercial. We flip around and we come across the 1982 movie tootsie with Dustin Hoffman. We end up my wife, my daughter and I end up watching it all the way through and had a lovely time watching it together. It was a nice Saturday night watching tootsie. I forgot what a cute movie that was. It's a great movie. That was my best of the weekend. Okay, and see how great my weekend was. And your worst. Friday night, the blazers had a 15 point lead in Philly. I watched almost all of this game. A nice road upset looks promising for game and company, wasted a 34 point effort by Anthony Simon's final score one 21 19 Philadelphia. See no Connor. I watched the movie with my it's not my best of the weekend though, but I watched a movie with my wife and son. Best in show. It's not my best on the weekend though, so sorry.

"Damian Lillard led the Trail Blazers to a one 22 one 12 comeback win over the grizzlies. Lillard pumped in 42 points to go with ten assists and 8 rebounds. The game was tied at one O 9 until Lillard hit a three pointer to spark an 8 O run. Anthony Simon's chipped in 26 points in Portland's fourth win in 5 games. We kind of play like we've been playing the last couple games. You know, playing together, playing hard, and live with the results. Jeremy grant provided 18 points in the first half before leaving with concussion symptoms. Grizzlies guard Ja Morant just missed a triple double with 32 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds. "You know, been trying to bounce back and just get consistency from that. This team, though, Zach, every game I go in, I know that they're going to battle. And that sounds like something very simple, but that's not something I could have told you each of the previous few years where you knew without a doubt like, I don't know if this is going to be a win or a loss or if guys are going to shoot well or if turnovers are going to be prevalent or what, but at the very least I know there's going to be some competition and that's been the case with this group. So because of that, like you hear Kenny Smith say this all the time on inside the NBA. He'll talk about how, if a team just plays hard, they got a chance to win. What a blazers are that team with some heavy offensive firepower as well with the name who's not available right now. But Anthony Simon, so I think he's gotten to a place where a lot in the NBA world, a lot of people have respected him and they realize like the kid can really play average in 23 points right now. And kind of plays a similar way his name. So even when Damon L and Anthony's plugged in, the team doesn't have to revamp their style of play. They have a lot of the same moves. He'll get downhill, he'll find guys. And so they have the differences, but also their similarities that allowed them to still be consistent. And so I think it's just too early to know really, with any type of true confidence, what it's going to look like in the win law standings, but you can have a confidence that this team is versatile. They're going to defend, they're going to play as hard as they can from start to finish. And the one thing I'm looking for Zach right now is for the team to kind of get back to some of the things they were doing in the first couple of weeks of the season, which is they were playing with such a high level of intellect. Like I bet those are some of the games you were watching and saying, oh, look, they did that. Oh, they started off in two three zone. Oh, they went three quarter press. They fall back. They go zone for the first ten seconds of the possession, then they close the last 14. And man, they're switching within a possession. Like they were doing so many things, but everybody was always locked in. And there's been a couple of games here over this last the last few games here and some of these losses where mentally they have not appeared as locked in as they were to start. And that's something I think they can and will get back. And then you'll see the wind start to pile up again. Yeah, I mentioned there are 13th in offense 11 and 11 the defense. I think they need to be better than 13th on offense and that they have the talent to do it. I mean, dame and Simon's are averaging 50 combined a game. And dame hasn't really had like a dame year quite yet. I mean, sneakily, I don't know how people have noticed they know the injuries. 42%, 33% on threes. His turnovers are way up and I noticed that this morning and I watched almost all of them on film and I don't know what you've seen. There's like a lot of sloppy losing his handle in traffic. A lot of trying to make passes that aren't there. Like guys aren't open, got defenders are in passing lanes. That's a little strange. What have you made of that? It's been really weird. You're exactly right. I've commented on that a few times. And the best answer I can have for you is it almost feels like he's getting re acclimated in different ways. And here's what I mean by that. So he missed most of last season. He came back this year, this is his first time getting back in the games. Last season, his absence was the longest he's ever had in his career. He's never been injured like that. And so getting going, I don't know if it's just the new style of play where Chauncey trying to incorporate more passing, a little more ball movement. It just looked like he was trying to get that rhythm back. Then he has the cap strain a little while ago. He comes back in the game at Miami. That was one game that was very noticeable to me because I feel like in the first half of that game, he had like three turnovers where we go to commercial break and I look over at Kevin, I'd be like, man, what's up? What's going on with Dave? This isn't normal. This isn't like a normal turnover that he would commit. And that was him again, coming back, kind of reintegrating himself into the lineup at the time. So that's my best answer. I mean, we got to see what happens when he does come back again. But yeah, it is unlike him and what you pointed out is encouraging to me. The fact that this team has had a success they've had and dame hasn't even been what we know he's capable of being and that's saying a lot because he won what's the conference player of the week earlier on in the season. And didn't even have the kind of games we know he's capable of having. In addition to that, the team as a whole is turning the ball over at a rate that just doesn't make sense for them. 2024. 24th and turnover rate, which is you'd actually associate the opposite with the Damian Lillard team kind of a totally not predictable, but he knows how to run this offense in his sleep. High pick and roll winning pick and roll with decided the floor clear nurkic slips, hit him with the mount spaz. This should not be a high turnover tape, even with a young costar guard, even with, you know, trying to figure out the bench identity with Winslow running a little point and shade and sharpie and just the most delightful roller coaster the entire league. This can't be 24th turnovers. And one of the trickle down effects of that has been, they have the worst transition defense in the league on an efficiency basis. And if you boil that even further down, it's all off steals, according to cleaning the glass, like they're fine off rebounds. They're getting killed off live ball turnovers. That feels kind of just random to me, but they're not a team that's designed to play the turnover game. They're not going to force a huge amount of turnovers. They shouldn't commit this many turnovers. Definitely going to be committed as many and everything you just said is, again, an encouraging sign where those are things the team can't control. They have a lot of turnovers that the defense is not forcing them into. Some of that goes back to some of that ball moment, the team was trying to play faster at the start, it's not just dame high pick and roll the way it has been in years past. What Chauncey Bill is trying to do is try to get some movement first, get the defense shift to dangle high pick a roll. You know, maybe Hannah mismatch but go quick and get some movement. And the blazers actually just lost the game against who was it? I'm losing track now here, not San Antonio, Brooklyn, Brooklyn.

"Fast they got up and down the court and just how fast they were the pasty played within the half court. And it would seem to drive Nate McMillan crazy at times where it was like, okay, can we speak? And up here a little bit. But yeah, I mean, I think you nailed it in terms of the trade structure. It's pretty simple. I think Boston moved on from these myth at the right time. I can't imagine it's value is ever going to be higher. Not that it was terribly high in the first place, but in terms of relative to his contract, he was only two years in past two years of cost control left Indiana gets two years to evaluate what he is and if they want to keep him great, if not, and there's really nothing lost for them in terms of investment. Okay. Next up, big group of signings. We will call this discussion. Anthony Simon's four years. I've got my big got my big notepad here of signings that I'm literally just going to read from. Anthony simons, four years, 100 million Yusuf nurkic four year 70 million, let's go Gary Payton the second three years, 28 million. Let's just talk about Portland to start here. I think that both, I think the Simon's deal was always going to be the natural endpoint. I always thought this was going to be just like a large number. I saw people saying four 80 is an expectation. I mean, if the number was going to only going to be four 80 Detroit, absolutely unequivocally, should have used the cap space they had to try and do that. Use of nurkic at four 70. And look, I think a big part of this is that we don't have the details on a lot of these deals, oftentimes details come out a little bit later because agencies are the ones that end up giving these deals to reporters, they're often the most favorable looking for the player. I would imagine this is a pure speculation thing on my part. I have not seen a report on this. I'm guessing that there's probably some protection on the fourth year with use of narc itch where it's non guaranteed or it's a team option or something like that. And then apparently we do have reporting that the Gary Payton deal three or 28 million is fully guaranteed. So I think that these deals make sense for Portland. I think they're going to be way tougher to play next year. Anthony simons is a really good player. I think that getting someone like Gary Payton to pair with anfernee simons and Damian Lillard should put on the ball, maybe allow those guys to take a bit of a break sometimes off the ball..

"I'm like pretty interested in. If I was Detroit, I would chase Anthony simons a little bit, to be honest. If I was now in Portland, I have to make a decision I am pretty simons. He's going to cost $25 million a year, I think. Like almost unquestionably, given the way that he closed the season, given what his upside is, given his age, that's going to be a big money deal. Like we're talking about like people worrying about Jalen Brunson getting 25 million, like 30 million a year. I think people's eyes are going to fucking balloon out of their skull when they see three diamonds is going to get given how few people know really how good he is now as they pull up scorer and shot creator. They have to make a decision on picking up Josh hartsfield. They have to make a decision on re signing use of nurkic. I think that their moves now make more sense to be able to move forward with dame with nurkic with heart with Simon's. Now that they have Jeremy grant, and I think additionally, because they have acquired this very good player for a good asset, not like a crazy good asset. They didn't have to give up number 7, for instance. And while we're on it, just really quick Haynes, and this has been out there. Haines reported that Portland's going for OG with number 7. I'm sure they are. I don't know if that gets incredibly skeptical that they are able to do that. I think it would cost OG plus like other stuff. I think it would cost 7 plus other stuff for OG. It now allows them, I think, to take a swing at number 7, which from what I gather is what Joe cronin has always been like the big proponent of in the draft. They have obviously always. Been a team that goes for like crazy athletes. They take Anthony simons. They take someone like Greg Brown. Neil little shade throughout his past has been publicly on the record saying like when he was in charge there that we don't think there is any rookie who can come in and help us while we're a playoff team. So we are just going to take the best player available. And they're the highest upside available and go from there. They took Gary Trent, for instance, as a freshman. One and done. So I think they're going to take shade and sharp is where I'm at. It seems like the most logical landing spot for me when I think of where sharp goes. And it sounds like he's been, I don't think Detroit is, I think he's down the list for Detroit. And I don't see the pacers taking them. And so I thought it started his range. The pacers could. But it started, I think it started, it started at 7 for me with Twitch sharp. Yeah. And this isn't me having Intel on this. Don't aggregate this. This is me, this is me.

"Is very good. Basketball can be very hectic at times, especially this time of year, the trade deadline is coming up this week. There's a lot of moving pieces in the NBA, but you know there's nobody that I'd rather talk about any of this with, you know, there's nobody I'd rather talk about it more than with John sharks, John how you doing buddy? I'm good. I guess we'll just tell the truth. So we actually recorded a pod about tyrese Halliburton and the kings, this Tuesday morning, and then we're feeling good, love on the pod and then right before I was supposed to go out this trade comes down and we're like, well shoot. So now we're back. Yeah, before we launch into that, yeah, we were getting earlier, we talked a little bit about the CJ McCollum trade that took place, Portland sent CJ to the pelicans and we were talking as far as like young player adjacency goes there, Anthony simons may have motivated that. That's something that we talked about earlier. His sort of the way he's come on lately, maybe open the door for them to be more palatable situation a cheaper option for them too. A guy who has a lot of upside, somebody that we want to talk about more in the future, Anthony Simon, somebody that's showing a lot of promise. For sure, for sure. I mean, he's become like, I'm not the franchise player, but clearly they're making a lot of moves in Portland based around him now. Yeah, totally. And like I said, that's somebody that people have reached out to us about, and we're definitely putting a pin in that we're going to hit on them soon. But the Halliburton thing is king. I mean, it's dominated the conversation today. I was outpacing in my yard as I have to because I have a hyperactive dog and I had to go out in the yard and just walk around aimlessly. I checked my phone could not believe it. Could not believe that the kings traded tyrese Halliburton. So before we go into the why, what motivated this? Let's specify who all was in the trade. So the kings are sending tyrese Halliburton, buddy healed, Tristan Thompson, and a 2027 second rounder to the pacers for demons a bonus, Justin holiday, and Jeremy lamb. Lamb was listed twice initially in the initial wage tweet here and there. But what do you think motivated this I mean, it seems like the consensus among people is like hands in the air, why the hell with the kings do this? Because on the surface, Halliburton has really seemed to have won over the basketball public with over Fox. I don't know if it was clear in the beginning, but he's clearly cemented himself as an asset that everybody thought they were going to keep. Why would they do this? What type of a decision do you think this was? Well, there's a lot of factors that go into it. I'm also glad you actually gave the trade and you caught yourself because I was definitely gonna call you out on that for just launching into the Halliburton. I believe you. Without any presence. Where do you want to start with Sacramento? As I think they were in a position, to me, it all goes back to drafting tyrese Halliburton and Davy on Mitchell. When you already had deer and fox and consecutive drafts. So that leafs in this position where you have three young point guards who are all kind of eating into each other's minutes, eating into each other's touches, eating into each other's responsibility and role on the team. And it just felt, even from the start of the season, the Aaron Fox has like himself at all all season. And I just felt like there was too many cooks in the kitchen. They kind of had to make a trade. And I think the GM macman mcnair, he said after they drafted Mitchell, he said, oh, we just drafted best player available, but the logic of that breaks down pretty fast when, okay, yeah, we can make a trade later, but now everybody knows you want to make a trade, right? So you only have no leverage at that point. And then on top of that, all your assets are making each other worse because I think Mitchell has done a very good this year. Primarily because he's stuck on a very small role. Fox has really struggled sharing the balls that are two guys. And Halliburton has been the best player, which we can get into in a second, but Halliburton is by far of those three guards, the one who's most easily, he can fit into almost any situation. So he's thriving in the chaos of Sacramento while these other two guards are struggling. And I think the question is less, why did the kings trade Halliburton as much as if I'm the pacers, I would want Halliburton back in a trade, right? It's a two way street. I think Indiana said, okay, maybe I don't know. I can't say exactly how the trade negotiations went down. It would not shock me though if Indiana said, we don't want deer and fox on his massive contract underperforming this season, with much of that the younger point guard and Halliburton. So if you want a bonus, this is the trade you have to make. That's my initial suspicion at least. The thing that this all hinges on to me is that Fox assets that we had heard in the conversations about what Fox could bring back potentially to supplement Halliburton didn't seem as strong as what if they pivoted and wanted to say, okay, well, since Halliburton is more valuable. And the kings are lucky because Halliburton saved their ass twice now, even though they decided not to keep thank God that he wanted to push his way to the kings. I have no idea. I don't know about the genesis of that story. Why? Because I'd heard that he did say he singled out the kings and wanted to go to them. But now they're in this situation where this past rebuild didn't really work ostensibly. And you're seeing a situation where they pivoted and said, okay, we could keep Halliburton and see what Fox can get us. There's appetite for that seemed a lot lower. I have time for Halliburton around the league. I think people see a guy who's like insanely versed or we'll talk more about that if you're a pacers fan. I don't know if you're a pace of fan if you would have been listening to a show like ours. Good to have you if you're with us. But we'll talk more about what he is like as a player. You know, they've pivoted. And I think that it was just going to kind of prevent them from being in the desert, like the total desert for a little longer. But if I'm looking at this team on the king's side of it, I know these guys aren't, this isn't like the youngest player part of the conversation. But the kings now have swapped a guy who was a great playmaker, a guy who is malleable, contextually could play with a lot of different situations. Like you said, for a guy like sabonis, who is a really high value player, like he's one of the best screen setters, one of the best, like elbow creators in the game right now. Do you think there's a potential where he could balance? He's not going to cannibalize Fox as touches as much. He's somebody that could fit with him, like he's one of the better like dribble handoff, players in the world. To me, this doesn't really change the it doesn't loft them into like a serious competitive team. What do you think it does for the kings in the short term? Does it really change the situation for them? What do you think? Just quickly here..

"Because they were, you know, it was one of those games where the other team has cardi does cardio. It was just a hard team to watch. Let me ask you a question. mean, I like Anthony simons too, right? Yeah. And some of these players, let's take Anthony Simon's out of the equation. It's not even about Anthony simons, right? We talk about these teams and we need more and more talent on these teams. Do you know what I mean? We need people. Ten points a game, 9 points a game. Unless you're just a hell of a lockdown defender and you're supplementing with 9 points or ten points on limited shots. They become threes that stretch the floor like those pieces help you with championships. A ten 11 point of game score that's volume and don't play no D, that shit don't help you win championships in a lot of in a lot of instances. Do you understand what I'm saying? There's a difference in and so I like I like Anthony simons as a player, but you need more players that are going to come in and play a definitive role in terms of defending supplement and offensively keeping the floor space. You don't need guys that are just can get you a bucket to the tune of ten 1112 a game. I mean, they're good to have, but you got to have other pieces. Anthony simons is great. You need more. Yeah. And also like, you need what I've learned, you know, it's not all about scoring, man. You have to have people that help the helper and shit like that. You know, and guys that kill on the minimum guys, you know? And it's all encompassing. But did I say all that to say, man? There's another scenario and throw at you. And this is the story I'm going to tell you. And I know you are a hip hop head and you're going to appreciate this. Irv Gotti was that the game last night. You know, he was chopping it up with Mark Jackson before the game and things like that and damn comes over, you know, 'cause you know, legend, you know, hip hop legend, right? You know what I'm saying? You want to say what's up? And you know where Gotti or got he's going to sell something and irv Gotti was pushing hard to get dame to the Knicks. Hard. He had the tims in the air. Come to New York. What's up? What's popping? You know we need you in New York in the garden. Dame was you know doing the laugh off thing, you know, he didn't really do it, but I'm just saying. It was right there. We need you in the garden. Rob. We know you got all the affiliates in New York. We know you already know you plugged in. We already know you tapped in and all the boroughs. We already know. We already know what's up. Do you want to where would you want to see Dan? Would it be in New York or would it be? I would love to see damn in New York. Got to say, I would love to see David New York. I was on YouTube in the garden. Where would you want to see him? Would you want him to be, you know, or front row? You know, spike front row with the dame nicks Jersey on when you go to Madison Square Garden as a player. The energy in that building is like, it's unlike the energy in any other building. Now Staples has an energy of its own too, but it's different. It's not like it's not like the garden. When you go into the garden, you feel like you're on a stage, you know? Like, when you go to Staples, you feel like you're at an event, right? And you're in that bad boy and you're performed, but you don't really get the feel of being on a stage. Like, Madison Square, you're on a stage. Stages require stars. They need stars. And so if you ask me if I'd like to see dame little it in a New York next Jersey, fucking right, I would like to see him in a New York next Jersey. That's a star. That's a superstar. That is, that is the type of energy that a building like that deserves. Now, you know, it's a bigger conversation than just bringing game to the garden. Like, what are the Knicks have to give up? They got a really nice squad. I'm not squashing or trying to marginalize anything that any Nick has done. RJ Barrett. RJ Barrett shadow Opie toppin. We see you. We see blue sky. Like I'm not doing a great job. But there are also missing a piece. Yep. They're missing a piece. Let's just keep it a buck. Like they're good. They're really good, but you're missing that. You're missing that guy. And so to answer your question, yeah, I'd love to see dame in a neck Jersey on the brightest stage in the NBA. I don't give a damn what anybody says. Like, yes, the Knicks haven't won anything but garden is a production, but you were on a stage. And so Dan would be great on it, but if you had to, if you had to give up everything to get dame, you're back in another organization. It doesn't have a great track record of being able to find the pieces to put around you to help you get over to hump. I'm gonna just be real though. Oakland dudes don't like that much tension, man. I don't know. I don't think it's gonna I don't think it would happen. I don't think it would have him, bro. I wanted to happen, but I don't see a dog. I don't see it. Personality and fit is another conversation. You would know that better than me, right? But yeah. I know. I wanted, but I know what I wanted. I wanted him. He's a killer. I haven't seen him on a national TV game against a contemporary or a rival that he hasn't stepped up to the plate and performed personality before he hits three. Does the Paul George three? You remember when he waved goodbye? What if he did that at the garden? What if he did that at the garden, man? No, what was the card that they wanted? The Bing bong? Is that what it is? Is that what it is? It's not even that's a no brainer. It's a slam dunk, sorry. It was so corny, but I had to say it. It just makes sense, but, you know, I mean, yeah. This all goes with this all goes.

"I think the twenty percent from three point range around there maybe a little bit less right off the double. Check the stats. I've some thoughts on this as well. But give me your early read on portland which dropped back to back games and now sits a three and four to start the season. I'm not a loss on this to be honest. Like i know that the point of of a podcast is that we share threshing. Take take the blazers seriously. They've got me completely flummoxed. And i know there are some of the fan base out there. That's probably thinking. Now that the blazers have been struggling. They're struggling more and know the blazers kind of underachieve last year and head injuries again. My feeling about this team has simply been okay. They did not do enough to improve their not a contender in the west. But we know there's a certain baseline that they can always reach with lillard mccollum healthy and firing all cylinders and if merkich could stay healthy. Oliver ifs about their health issues have had over the last couple years. Well they're healthy right now. They're healthy anthony simon's after three four straight years of time is going to be the next big thing. Actually start is starting to break out playing pretty. Well it's good he. He's a bright spot with that team. He's got a little bit man's strength to him and some real politics game. He's he's looking good and mccollum's off to a strong start and yet damian lillard himself is the one who's now like if we were going to say as a as a theoretical exercise a month ago. Hey a few weeks into the season the blazers are going to be really messed up. What do you think you know on dame mind. We'd be like oh well. It was teams are failing him again. He's gonna wanna trade. He's the he's the only one failing right now dealers at a career low as we speak career low in points per game eighteen point six career field goal percentage at thirty five percent career-low three point percentage at twenty three. I mean he's in russell westbrook three point range career career-low free throw attempts per game. Three point nine his sister up at least passing the ball. Well but. I don't know what to make of this. Chris because there's no injury that we are aware of and the only other answer would be is that is a mental issue to do with his discontent with the blazers that he is some alvin papering over this whole time because he has said all the right things ever since the summer about i want to. I want to be here. I'm here to stay. I'm going to be the one to help you know. We're we're we're going to turn this thing around and i'm sticking it out i don't want to be traded. I'm not demanding a trade. i'm re- i'm rebutting. Every trade rumor and report out there about what i want and it's okay i believe him. I believed him then. I believe him now but when he's playing this poor that you have to wonder like what is on his mind that is causing one of the greatest offensive players in the league. One of the great clutch shooters in the league. One of the great three point shooters in the league to be.

"No and he didn't try to make that case either really he did. he didn't yeah. I mean he. He says he believes in who they have he. Actually even you know through in that big caveat about look. I didn't think we were going to go out and get kevin durant an expect. That was going to happen. But i think he appreciates. They made some attempts to replenish and to bolster themselves a little bit. Larry nance junior certainly will will help. Bring a little bit more of a defensive tenacity. There maybe maybe all they needed some good health i mean. I don't really buy that chris. i don't buy. This is a team that can make a run or multiple runs for the finals with the person they have. Now unless there's some crazy finally a breakout by somebody. Anthony simon's finally becomes the star. They thought he was going to be i. I one of the other young guys. But i like the fact that showed up on day one and basically said we could contrast this with ben simmons who is always tied to but he showed up and said look. I'm here. I want to win here. I'm not moving off that. I've always been about trying to win it all in portland and i'm going to. I'm still about that now. Could a ten game losing streak in november chain. That sure is the whole league especially philadelphia waiting for that to happen. Yes is leather himself. Bracing for that. I mean the guys got supreme belief in himself and his ability to lead this team somewhere meaningful and they have had a lot of bad injuries over the last few years. So that if they keep nurk healthy through a full season and mccullum healthy through a full season. Maybe they've got a shot to do something. I don't know what that something is like. What is that. Something i know. That's the thing right like are you good enough at your best. Whatever the blazers absolute hypothetical best is is it enough to knock off a lakers team at full strength or a nuggets team when they have jamal. Murray or clippers team when they have leonard. Are you better than the jazz. The better the sons team that we're always gonna keep leaving out of these conversations can ask you those you know all our harden. I mean there are some things to watch with portland. Like how does the lillard mccullum norm. Powell trio works together season of it. Yeah that's like three guys six four and under and powell's about six three like can they coexist defensively and that's what we talked about it..

"We can move to the portland. Trailblazers the blazers last year. Finish forty two thirty and pretty close to their differential differential of a forty six point. Eight win team roster is somewhat similar to last year. Remember they got. they swapped. Norman powell for got norm powell exchange for gary Way through the season they traded dirksen junior and some picks for For larry nance junior. Which i think is going to be a big help in there is still the uncertainty swirling around damian lillard but for me i'd be the basic here is that last year the blazers had the differential a forty six point win team when they had the second worst defense in the league including horrendous bench defense and not every part of that is fixed but the cantor mellow minutes oregon. And while that could lead to some reduction in their offensive efficacy. I think there's more ground to gain improving defense than there is ground to lose weakening on offense. Yeah i haven't totally finished. I won't do it until the very start of the season. We go through. All the team previews but i to me. This is a team that went damian. Lillard has been healthy has looked by guitar. Five offense and yet the bench offense may not be quite as good. But i think they're going to be firmly in that mix with some of the other top offenses You i don't think they made enough changes. Yeah they brought it up the nate one stat on that in the last eight years portland has had a top seven offense six times and i believe at least one of the two years. The didn't lillard missed significant time. So forty three and a half. I mean it seems like they're iran this range over year It seems like i always end up going the over on portland. I'm kind of leaning that way again. This year i was seduced a year ago by some of the defensive changes that they made those obviously did didn't work although worth noting that when they had merkich and covington out there they actually defended just fine. It was just the bench. That was terrible now though. I think Their bench defensive should be relatively adequate. Cody zeller i think is an underrated pickup. He's probably above average defensive center for us a backup getting nance junior in there as well Nor impala the three. You know they're one through three are still pretty miserable. As far as the starters but having nance's a sub i think is good. Now nansen covington merkich like those guys could miss time. And that's maybe where things kind of fall apart anthony. Anthony simon still really sucks on defense otis. Ben michael moore who they brought in. Tony snell is pretty blah there. He's probably gonna get two minutes as a backup so you know. I don't think they're going to be world beaters. But could they get into like the high teens. Low twenty s. I think that's realistic. And i think they're to be top five on up so that to me is going to get them to more than forty three and a half wins. I'm not. I'm not going towards the stratosphere with these guys and i also worry that lillard just can't continue to play quite this level you know we've said that the last two years leslie because he keeps getting better every year in the near like a wait a minute like he asked his targeting worse at some point but Shooting does age pretty well. Cj looked really bad in the playoffs. I thought he never really looked in great shape after coming back from that foot. A what kind of year he has. I think is going to be really important. But cj after that start healing played at four forty seven games last year and nurture only played thirty seven right the the wrist issue so I think though that because of the way they went out to denver in the playoffs and because of the negative with lillard and maybe thought that he could again ask for trade. Obviously if that happens then they're going to go under but they'll go under whatever the fuck their line is if he they would have already been going under his my kinda thought on it like i don't think i don't think the blazers are going to trade damian lillard if they're over five hundred and they're competing in the west like they might in the offseason but i don't think they would during the year. Well i mean i. It's really what's matter whether he asked for a traitor. And i mean they're five games over and they're just not happening for them. 'cause that's a thought on this right is that you're really gonna like what's going to be good enough for damian lillard at this point in time. Is it going to be good enough. Like i mean. Unless if they're not on peace for homecourt advantage then maybe he does ask for the trade and then so i. I'm not sure about that. Actually danny that you wouldn't ask for the trade unless it looked like they were going under anyway because i think finally his standards are a little bit higher. You know this just looks like yet another one of these same years that they've been having all these times then maybe it's a little different so so that is a risk here like this isn't going to be one of my best butts to go over but i think i don't wanna price in like him getting traded. I don't think that's a good way to do it. You just gotta try to make the decision based on who's of available in what you think that group is going to do so. I think that you know. I mean it's one thing if we're talking about philly where ben simmons like. I'm not even going to be in camp. But here i think i will go over. I'm going over as well. I think i'm a little more confident in it than you. But i'm also not sure i'm gonna put it one of my best bats. We'll see you all shake all that out when we actually get there. Instead we can go to the phoenix suns. The reigning western conference champions. The sons last year had the differential of a sorry they won. They went fifty one in twenty one day at the differential over an eighty two game season. A fifty six win team and they are gonna be without dario charge for the year. But they didn't have any what i would call high end departures. They lost a couple of smaller guys. brought javale mcgee peyton landry shamet in a trade and vegas is negative on negative on where they're going to go because drops all the way to fifty point five wins. I think part of that is because the sons were so incredibly healthy last year during the regular season bridges booker. Paul eytan all played sixty.

"It feels like it's the correct decision. So i'm really excited for what he can do. Here i think is efficiency. Numbers are going to be excellent. This year i mean i really do. Believe that he's gonna get a lot of really good. Looks with the type of gravity. The damian lillard and use of merkich create together. And then you're gonna bring in. Larry nance junior and potentially anthony simon's in that same type of action like i think he's in for for a really good year and i think he's gonna live up to that contract completely. Yeah i agree. I think i look at this with norm in terms of just talking about the shooting in general like even if you look at last year you can go up and down the roster and like obviously gary trent but like gary trank got traded for norm. You look at what the seam was an outside of dame and norman powell outside of damon. Cj and think robert covington to an extent depending on how hot is. because he's a very streaky. Shooter like okay. You look. Rodney hood was not very good from three. Last year i feel like teams really. Didn't guard him is really knocked. Party guarded out the three. You can look and say a lot of the bench unit. Outside of anthony simon's those guys are not getting guarded out to the line to an extent like even though carmelo was like you was a fine shooter last year. I mean good your last year like i never felt that he had the same poll. Because he's not somebody attacking off the catch like when you have a guy like norm who can attack off the catch. Like i think he's going to guard a lot differently and we're going to see that we already saw that last year so i agree. I'm very excited by that. I would also transitioned to like you. You're mentioning with chauncey. How are you getting a general feel for what is going to be like coaching style. Coming into this year. I think it's going to be a lot of taibu. I really do. There was an excellent article that came out and the athletic today from jason. Quick that really outlined how you know chauncey really committed from that front office oriented viewpoint of where he wanted to go with his career to getting into coaching. And a lot of to do tyler tyler who basically talk. There was a six weeks stretch during the pandemic. Where those guys taiwan over how to breakdown film go over everything how to really put xs and os on paper and on the on the white board and really go over. What they're seeing out there and i really think a lot of what the blazers have in place kind of aligns with what. Obviously you don't have choir. Paul george but as far as having a use of norwich and larry nance junior kind of filling those zubov roles and how how you attack the heart of a defense and how you create space and how you generate off your primary scorers and what they do as facilitators. I think there's a lot of stuff that's going to be in place here now. What i really do wonder on the defensive end because it's you know. Accountability accountability accountability. Is our here not a portland right now. and you know. That's fine coachspeak. But i really wanna know what happens. Like what are you gonna do. In damian lillard because damian lillard was like took a noticeably huge step back last year on the defensive and a lot has to do with what he has to do on offense but what happens if he's not putting forth the effort on defense. Are you really gonna bench damian lillard. What how's that conversation going to go. So i really i. I'm curious to see how he addresses the defense..

"Think tony snell. Just because he's so consistent. I mean he's not flashy. But i could see especially with what they're going to want to do with that second unit and if they're really gonna try to hand the keys to anthony simon's on offense. I see tony. Snell being the guy. But i think this is gonna gonna battle him. I think that's my for me. The most interesting battling camp is what's going to happen with tony style and the little and who can edge the other one out because with a new coach. I just think tony snell's not the guy is gonna go out there and make self inflicted mistakes were necessarily little. You know being a younger player trying to prove himself my back himself into a corner a little bit. But you know. Kevin pelton brought up a very interesting idea as far as you know rolling out a jumbo lineup. And maybe we see a little bit of larry nance junior at the small forward position in certain lineups. And you know. I just haven't seen it before but i you know it's an interesting thought exercise and i'm wondering if it's something that they will try to experiment with At least early in the season. Yeah i mean. Cleveland had some lynam slash year with With especially earlier in the season in love. And and larry nance so. I think it's entirely possible. Obviously i think this will be a little bit better. It'll just depend. How shakes out. But again like i agree like i totally see that and i agree as well on nas because he was a guy. One of the few gripes had with terry stotts last year and just in terms of rotations. Because i've never really had an issue with his rotations. I've always thought he's pretty good job of managing it last year. Though i wanted nas to play more and it didn't happen. I think this year's your that becomes a real rotation guy because you can look up and down the roster. Think they're eight eight. Pretty clearly solidified spots nine. I think if you're including tony. Snell if i can count correctly That's eight or nine. But point being nas unlocks like that last piece where you can say okay. He's playing ten twelve minutes a game. We need somebody else. who can. Maybe that doesn't like like a super size of like talking about or even downsizing you play him at the three rokos at the four. And you have larry at the five like you can do just a lot more..

"Well i don't. I don't know i just think the blazers like it's all on ila shea and He seems to like be have enjoyed job security. Which i don't understand. I dunno like it. It seems like paul and died. And there's a power vacuum and he just felt it you know because he should have been fired usually go like i know we were always saying people should be fired but the thing what portland is like. They just haven't got it. Anyone naked soaked his way out of denver and they got a very good player for free with a pig that they blew but two thousand sixteen seventeen draft like twenty seventeen draft. They had like three picks and they got like that collins and like it's very possible to seem coulda had like. Oh gee and john collins and they do they're probably find like an assist they don't have talent and like Is very very good at basketball. But he's also surly undisciplined and you can't have followed a games like he's been doing and i mean i don't want to criticize them but he's he's naked so he's never going to be someone who's like ultra liable and they depend on him so and i don't know i just it's very strange like you know how dame has kind of operated you know speaking kris haines like They're just kinda stuck. And i think that you know they've clung cj and all that and it's like if you don't drop while you have to get lucky and they'd haven't really done that. But i do think that. Nance net covington dennis smith. They can be a little bit better on defense and w maintain but they're pricilla. I run out. So like even the norman powell thing like they're gonna pay three six two guards like ninety million dollars. You can't do that and that's what they are on track to do so. He's a good player but it's like they're locked it. They painted themselves into a corner in in yellow way. They could get out as with a traitor. You know the team gets blown up so but Yeah i just kind of feels weird with carlisle and go out and start to as an assistant that twenty seven team like end of an error because portland has been very stable in. Terry stotts was a big part of that. He got fired. So yeah it's like let's. Let's blame the coach. And i don't think he was a problem. Because you have kanter mellow and anthony simon's and you know on the bench in this like you know no wonder they struggled offensively..

"And he's getting older. And everything else i i. I was more interested in a row zero combination than than some others would but also that would have bought some theoretically. Some financial flexibility could have used that a couple of okay. Well that does it for. Ben simmons here traded to portland for. Cj mccollum anthony simon's who can fit right in with shake milton antares maxi all compete for backup guard minutes And the swap in twenty twenty two so Daryl morey can win the press conference and say that they they gotta i out of it as well potentially. Let's finish up Do the mock draft your quickly and we'll stop after the top six just because after that you don't necessarily who you draft isn't necessarily gonna affect your decision making in free agency but if you're drafting a guy in the top six maybe we can say that the third important enough player that you're not going that that's going to affect you're not gonna get another guy at that position whereas once you get below. That isn't necessarily the case but Detroit who you taken with the number one overall pick the detroit pistons take kate cunningham. Houston rockets are on the clock with the second pick in the draft. The houston rockets selects jalen green. Cavs i assume this is the only time we'll be hearing from you on this not necessarily picking the draft. If the cleveland cavaliers select evan mobile raptors the on the clock at four with the fourth pick in the draft the toronto raptors select jalen suggs our The magic the fifth pick the orlando magic. Select scotty barnes and the oklahoma city thunder with the six pick which the sex pick the oklahoma city. Thunder select jonathan. Kaminker thanks Jonathan gooney that was very helpful for us So it may be a time here at the draft. The warriors said that they are looking to make some moves potentially involving seven and fourteen and james. Wiseman this is the time to do it. Where if you trade the pick. The team can draft. Whoever they wanna have available. I don't want to spend too much time on this. But if you have any very specific offers that golden state things are going to just blow a team away for a veteran that they're trying to get in. I think we should probably talk about that now. The team we wanna talk to you. I don't. I don't know if we have to touch base with them because they could go and so many different directions raptors. How you feel about. Oh gee i don't think we're interested in making that deal for oj. Okay seven seven and fourteen would not be enough if it's pascal you're talking about. How would you feel about bringing home. Andrew wiggins as a part of some sort of transact. I mean if he's the matching salary. Sure i don't think we think of him as tremendous positive value but so something involving wiggins and those picks because he's our most likely salary filler in a deal like that you're you're not interested in that structure again for siaka more interested for come. We're not interested. So yeah oggi's the one that's most interested me. I mean bradley. The wizards already. Basically i mean how you feel about bradley. Beal wizards i mean. It's really up to his agent whether he's taking the extension But without any other clarity. Were keeping them. You'll you'll find out when you can offer me the extension. On the in october it would be improper to have any discussion of that beforehand. I see. I thought you're gonna tease the mock extension Podcast that's that's when people will find out the Do we do a mock veteran extensions gasping we should Okay any other offers that you ought to make golden state. There's no one else that really kind of that. We think of as theoretically movable of some if there is a star. I don't i don't think damian lillard is kind of in this. I mean porn. Ben simmons okay. Yeah i i mean. I think there's just breaking the fourth wall here for a second. There's just not enough reporting that. These guys are actually talked to talk about jaylen brown and a few other guys but like we haven't heard anything there okay. So warriors Can't come up with anything using those other. Any other trades that teams are are really trying to do here. This is probably a good time to try and figure out anything. Big there isn't there isn't a trade but i think there's one conversation that needs to happen before free agency start so i don't know if we want to do that now or if we want to do that after some of the trade all Let's see if there are any more trade. Okay so what else do we have to deal here. Before we get to the free agent frenzy bulls year. We'd like to have a conversation with mr zach levin. Because as i mentioned in the introduction we have a lot of options but we need to know where you are before figure that out you were not technically free agent. You are under contract for nineteen point five million next year but you are also eligible for a straight extension. We can build off the one thousand nine five or a renegotiation extension. We would have to clear some cap space but we can do that. We have so. The straight extension is a non-starter. That's like four years hundred million not interested in that only making nineteen point. Five so you just. You can't offer me enough. I think clearly. If i were free agent right now i i would be. Maybe the number two free agent on the board and have full max offers everywhere refreshment. Rebels have you.
