NFL draft back to being all about QBs at the top

"Quarterbacks are back on top in the NFL Draft. A year after the first 19 picks were non QBs and Kenny Pickett was the only signal color selected in the first round. This draft class is loaded with potential franchise QBs. Bryce young and CJ Stroud have been the center of attention since before last year's draft even took place. They could become the 9th pair of QBs selected one two in the Super Bowl era. Anthony Richardson and will levis should make it four QBs in the top 15, which has happened only 5 times previously. If they all go in the top ten, it will be the second time ever. I'm get cool bar.

"Also there's a whiteboard in the room, and they're going to talk X's and O's. So they get up there. And Steve mariucci is drawing up a play that he used to run when he was coaching San Francisco forty-niners. He's like, all right, this guy over here, this is Jerry Rice, and this is TO. And this is JJ stokes. This was a zebra. You know what? I would be Jerry Rice. Ever heard Jerry Rice? Yeah, the best, okay? Zebra left. We put him in motion to a stack over here. He's got Steve Young, under center. It's got a 6 word cadence that I don't even remember because it was too long. So that is Tripp's right. Y deep. Zebra left 74 zebra bake. Got it? So then they sit down, continue the conversation, and then here comes the curve ball. And Steve says to Anthony, all right. You remember my play? No, get on that board. Show me. I'll get by this side of the defense. Or you want to run the sacral. As you would call it. Or is he going? We would call it as a divide, bro I know you better someone divide the field aim for the pilot. And you want to occupy this backside safety. This is the background as you would call it. You know, this has been this corner around Louisiana. And what's the protection? 70 four miles per max. Not bad. He draws up the formation, everything's perfect. He did mess up in one regard. He had Steve Young in the shotgun rather than under center because duh, it's 2023, and no one's under center. That's the kind of thing they do in those interviews. Not every team, but a lot of teams. So if he handled that the way he handled those meetings, then I have no doubt that he governed himself pretty well. Give me the before and after because heading into the combine. There are four names that every NFL fan is thinking about at the top of the draft when it comes to quarterbacks. And that's Bryce young out of Alabama. CJ strut out of Ohio State will levis out of Kentucky and Anthony Richardson. And so before the combine, what order did you have them? And after it, where do you think it stands now? So these things are always in the eye of the beholder, but I would say this. I think that most people would have had him forth, I think the question initially at the very end of the college season, the question was, okay, is he a first round pick? A ball face to keep it alive. He's got a man alone in the back of the end zone. Are you kidding me? And then it became, all right, well how far can he go? And that's where we are now. It's not a matter of is he a first round pick, or not even a matter of like, oh, will he make it past the middle of the first round? Now the question is like, all right, is this guy getting out of the top ten? And the answer very much is almost positively no. The fact of the matter is, he played on a Florida team that everyone you talked to agrees was not flush with talent on offense. What if you can get him in the right situation with the right supporting cast? Write coach. That is the tantalizing part for teams to consider. Look, there is so much need and there is so much I think in recent years, much more open mindedness as I talked about earlier for these dual threat quarterbacks because he is very much a dual threat, okay? A guy running a four, four, three, 40 yard dash. The perception and the view of those quarterbacks has undoubtedly changed. Lessons have been learned. Lamar Jackson barely made it into the first round. Jalen hurts did not make it into the first round. Where would they be drafted today? Maybe the number one overall pick?

Vivid seats. Life happens live. So Stephen holder, you were at the NFL combine this past weekend and you had unprecedented access to the quarterback prospect that everybody is obsessed with. Anthony Richardson and you spend time in and around his camp. So what was it like to see Richardson up close? Just the physical imposing nature of Anthony Richardson is just stunning. When you meet him, you shake his hand when you're in his presence. We're in the Indiana convention center. Now there's people milling around. There's some sort of construction safety conference going on down the hall, and then there's the NFL combine. It's a very weird scene, right? We're hanging out. We're talking doing a little bit of a casual interview for this story. And then this guy, this sort of bystander who was attending some other conference at the convention center, he realizes this guy is probably an athlete, and he says, what position do you play? Anthony decides to play a game with him. He says, well, what do you think I play? The guy says, ah, you gotta be a linebacker. Maybe your defensive end. He just laughs. Sir, I'm a quarterback. And you should see this guy's face. 6 four 244 pounds. Doesn't look like a quarterback. So he just defies convention. He is one of one, really. And so his physical presence is one enormous thing, but his talent, which is by pretty much all accounts. Very raw. That is another Steven. And so how have NFL teams and scouts have been reacting to that combination? Here's a great anecdote that tells you that people's wheels are turning. So we're sitting there watching myself and Richardson's camp is agents, his manager, and they're still throwing. They're almost done, but they're still throwing at this point. And his managers phone rings. He picks up the phone and he gets off and he says, that was team X, I am not going to name the team to protect the innocent. They were calling during the workout, okay? During the workout. To ask if they could carve out some private time at his pro day later this month in Gainesville. I mean, I don't know how often that happens. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that happens very often. I mean, they weren't even done. No, but it felt like suddenly he was, yeah, this is the prom king. Right. And I think it's a real indicator of how his stock is rising. Take me back to long before you got to Indianapolis, and you saw grown men fainting. Basically at this kid's arm and entire physical profile here, because I want to understand where he came from. Where does this start? To really understand him, you have to go back to his early childhood. He was born in Miami and times are tough. His mother, lashonda, she's working multiple jobs. He has a younger brother who comes along. They are moving from place to place, not really ever stable, and so eventually they move to Gainesville when Anthony is ten years old. They had a little more stability, but mom is still working multiple jobs. That then becomes a situation where he's trying to juggle football and taking care of his younger brother, who was an absolute priority for him. Corey, who is, I believe, 7 years younger, he would get out of school and Anthony would jump on his black mountain bike and race over to the elementary school, get him, stick him on the handlebars. Take him home and make sure he gets squared away. And embrace back to east side high for practice. It be late sometimes, right? But that's what he had to do. And somehow, in the midst of all of that, he managed to become an elite prospect and get a scholarship to the university of Florida. This idea that here is a kid who grew up in tough circumstances and is this raw talent and is this guy with lots of questions. I mean, the general assumption here is that he is unpolished. But when he is meeting with these NFL teams and so much of the combine is of course psychological investigation in ways that are both ridiculous and also fascinating to me. What was the reception that he got when he goes and meets with all of these talent evaluators in these settings? I'll start by saying, I think a lot of these meetings and evaluations, I think is about getting a better sense of who someone is, right? And a lot of what these teams perhaps thought about Anthony Richardson comes from incomplete information, right? All they know is that he's young that he's unpolished, as you said, they haven't seen a lot of him. So where's the bar? I don't know. Maybe it's not that high in that circumstance. Oh, do you think maybe I don't know football at a high level? Well, let me show you. Do you think that maybe you don't know how I got here? Well, let me tell you my story. And that was something that his agents and Anthony really talked about in advance of these interviews let them learn who you are. And it's interesting because Anthony is by nature a really quiet guy. He's very, very personable, but you do have to kind of have to drag things out of him, right? And so this was maybe not in his nature to be so expressive and to tell his life story. And to share this window into who he is. But this was really important. And it appears that he was able to sort of shed that and to go outside of his comfort zone and do this for something that was just critically important toward his future. Well, I also want to introduce the other aspect of convention here and caricature and stereotype, which is you're describing a young black dude in his 20s, who has again a lot of raw material to be shaped. And so the mental investigation that teams are attempting here, the questions of cognitive processing, a loaded term in NFL history when it comes to black quarterbacks. How did he grade out in that regard? So all indications are that he did very well. And certainly we aren't in these interviews and they don't give us a box score who in the rover with or anything, right? So you kind of have to go by what you're told. But I thought we did get a window into that and that's why this access was very helpful. So tagged along with him on Thursday to multiple places. One of those stops along the way was a sit down with NFL network. And so he is in this room with Steve mariucci, former NFL head coach, quarterback guru. And it's sort of this quarterback meeting setup. Come on in here, Anthony Richardson. For Gators. Yes, sir. How you doing? I'm good how about you? Thanks for doing this. They're doing an interview and they're talking back and forth about ball about him, but

"And I was like, yeah, I know. It's an interesting dilemma, and it really is a dilemma. I think you have this really inexperienced quarterback. He only made 13 starts at Florida. Not really enough to really give you the whole picture. But I think the other side of that is he's 20 years old. He doesn't turn 21 until May. He has limitless upside. We know what kind of athlete he is, and the NFL has changed. There is an openness now to quarterbacks like Anthony Richardson that didn't exist at long ago. And you don't want to be the team who needed a quarterback and maybe we're afraid to make the move and end up being wrong and regretting

"So Stephen holder, you are at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. You were there. Watching the gold medalist in the underwear Olympics. Anthony Richardson, who calls himself what? As you wound up learning spending time with the guy. He's got a self given nickname that he started using and I think 11th grade back in high school, east side high in Gainesville, Florida. It's cam Jackson. What does that mean? It's a combination of his two favorite quarterbacks. The two guys he has patterned his game master. Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson, but Kim Newton, I don't know that he was this level of freak athlete. Boyd suppressor. Thought he's going to flip it out. Stays alive. Richardson. Leapfrogged the defender out of bounds. Give me a break. And Lamar Jackson, he is not as big as no. As Anthony Richardson, Richardson, fake the boot. He'll load it up and cut it loose with that big arm touchdown Gators. What's it like to watch this sort of a project reveal itself? What was the scene like on Saturday? So we're in Indianapolis. There's some buzz in the building. It's kind of cool. And over to the side, there's these random workouts set up. You know, the broad jump, the vertical jump. And they rarely really make news, right? Because what does a broad jump distance even mean in context? I have no idea or most fans don't know. But in this case, those were headlines because what Anthony Richardson did was so rare. He broke the all time record for broad jump and vertical jump for a quarterback at the NFL combine. And that's not something that anyone ever leaves the NFL combine talking about. So he goes out there, he runs the 40, he runs a four, four, four initially. And here he is running a 40 yard dash and oh my goodness. Moses Malone. Four four four. They adjusted to 4.43 seconds. The fastest in ten years by a quarterback. And then he threw the defaults and that is where you really get a sense of what kind of potential this guy has. Anthony Richardson here we go. Matt landers going deep. Look at that. Oh my goodness. He's through that from the 9 yard line and it landed on the 30. He turned that one over like a punt.

That's number one. Rich, how you doing? Great show as always. Thanks, pal. What's going on? We are what exit do you think, Chris? We're new to one 60 8. Two 80. We get it. Okay. Burger county. I was going to talk, Joe, I'll get to Jeff, but brockman's latte Larry got me a little distracted, red. I co host the number one Seinfeld podcast. If you know that. Okay. We'd love to have you on, rich. I know you're one of the top sci-fi guys. I would agree. What are your top three up before you come on our show, of course? What are your top three? Yada, yada, yada. What else is another top one? I guess Festivus is a great one. The parking garage. The parking garage is early. It's a little bit redundant. The Chinese restaurant is great. Of course, the contest is an all time classic. Puffy shirt. I saw the balance there. I saw the year to later years rich. Because I got to go a lot of Seinfeld reels sent in my algorithm. This baby loves the slop. Loves to slop. It's a great one. No, the one I saw the moment Elaine rips the wig off of Georgia's head and screams at him. I don't like this. This is what I'm gonna do with it. Throws it out the window. God, is that funny? But I'm sorry, Chris, so what's your point, sir? What else? What's your question, your football question or anything like that? What do you got? Well, after you come on this podcast, make me thirsty. Yeah, we do talk a lot of jets. I want Mike white back, rich. I don't know about you. I think he didn't get a fair shake. And I think he plays well with Garrett and everybody else. What do you think? Sure, why not? I mean, I guess that's the Bobby Cannavale drop that we have here. I don't know. It was great to see Mike white perform a couple of games. I just don't know if he's the answer. Is he going to be who would the copy for him? Somebody who's gets an opportunity and then takes it to the House for New York, like, I don't know. Why not? Because you can do better, I think. I don't think the jets are going to run it back with Zach and Mike white. That's just not going to do it, man. General manager and a coach feel an urgency to win a playoff game. This coming year. And I don't think they're going to go run it back with Zach and Mike white. They're just not going to. And Zach's going to be there. And maybe Mike white, does he want to come back as a third option for whatever veteran they add? Because that's what's going to happen. You want that? I think that's possible, unless he goes and he finds a backup gig somewhere else. I don't think another team's going to make Mike white their starter. But he did play some exciting football and I appreciate the call, Chris. Thank you. Congrats on your pod. Yeah, the jets aren't going to be like after all this. You know what? It's Zach and Mike white again. It's running back. Yeah, let's screw it. Let's see what Flacco is up to. You know, that ain't happening. Yeah, sure. Why not? There it is. You guys remember I did a grab bag of my top 5 Seinfeld episodes. Yeah, I do remember that. We forgot this ones you forgot the bris. That was my number one. That was the one that really solidified the fact that I'd like that show. They're always. So I was at the combine, and I got there, as you know, midnight Tuesday. Woke up the next day, and just went out and let me just make sure I got this right. I wound up having a sleep that I slept in. I did. Yeah. Slept in as long as I could. And just gutted it out and got to work on Wednesday. And got a nice little free meal going. You know, just grab the sandwiches or whatever that was there. Lunch, then Wednesday night. Agents of the stars, Jerry Silva bought me dinner. Nice guy. That nice. Thursday morning. Met Adam Schefter for breakfast. He picked up the check. Wow. He insisted. Wow, rich, you're already. We know what he makes. He should have. He insisted. It's all good. Then I went and I did Jason Kelsey's pod. Saw that. How was that? That was great. Just great. Delightful. What a delight Jason Kelsey is. Even though he hasn't been on this show. Yet. Oh, I gave him so much grief for that. It was great. And so then we got the most important Kelsey. We had his mom. Then I went from there from Jason Kelsey's pod. To immediately had to go to work. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. I went to work. Just grabbed a lunch there. And then they brought dinner during the broadcast. So now you're already. You haven't paid for any meals yet. I'm on a roll. Oh, this is going to be. Picked up on it immediately. Friday. Let's see. Jerry. Again, buys me breakfast. Friday, I had a lunch courtesy of the new DJ at NFL network. The new major domo of NFL network. Bought me lunch. Go to work. At dinner. Well,

"Whenever you have people on your side like that, you don't want them to always tell you the good things. You want them to tell you what you need to hear and not necessarily what you want to hear. I don't want to hear, oh, you're a great guy. You're going to go first now. I need to know what I need to get better at what I need to grow on what I'm doing. So when the time does come out and correct those things, just focus. Anthony Richardson here on the rich eisen show for a few minutes after dominating the combine over the weekend. That said, I mean, your phone must have blown up after your combine or in the middle of the combine. Practice, right? The drills? Did that happen? Yes sir. All right, can you tell me who's texting you? Who's hitting you up? Anthony Richardson. During that. Friends and high school family for Miami. Old coaches, pretty much everybody that's helped me get to this point. That's supported me. And showed me love. Everybody's reaching out and just congratulating me. a name? Give me a name. Somebody who do you got? Who's like the most famous person who hit you up when that happened? In most famous services. We got. I don't know, I don't know. Well, I'll get ready. Get ready. Get ready, Anthony Richardson. You get ready. Do you know cam at all? Because I know he's one of your if I'm not mistaken, he's one of your guys that you grew up emulating, right? Cam. I don't know if Kevin decided to meet him, though, soon. Okay. Who else would you grow up emulating? Who else is the guy that you're like? You monitor yourself after. Lamar Jackson was another guy when I was in high school. Okay. Is it true you called yourself cam Jackson? Yes sir, I did that for like a year or two. I'm always trying to limit count a little bit because of the comparison and then obviously seeing the more chicken everybody running around everybody. I'm like, but I think I can do that too. I started doing it a little bit. I'm like, I think I'm gonna say I might be Kansas. Cam Jackson. As Lamar, have you and Lamar ever connected? I was surprisingly, you know, I was sponsored by Lamar following me back on Instagram and we come and say that a little bit. I just told him, you know, I had a major love for, you know, I appreciate him, you know, and he said, the same thing back. Anthony Richardson, a few more minutes left with the buzziest draft prospect at the quarterback position from the combine, if not throughout this entire tenure, right here on the rich eisen show. I'm just going to jump into it. I do this with a lot of players. Don't worry, it's all good. So did you meet with all the teams in the top ten? Did you meet with Chicago? Anthony? Yes, sir. Okay, did you meet with Houston? Anthony? Yes, sir. Okay, did you meet with Indianapolis? I was meeting them in formal. Informal, just running to each other in the hallway, just saying hello at the craft services. Table? Yes. Okay. Interview process. So I'll talk about them for a bit. Okay. What about Seattle? Did you meet with the Seattle Seahawks Anthony Richardson? Yes, I did. When I see Carol my heart up like, wow, you want to see the down TV and I was in the same room and I felt different. I heard that he's a close talker that he talks real close to you. Does he do that? Did he do that with you or anything? He gave me my space. I gave him his space. You didn't take his shirt off like he did with Metcalf with DK, right? You didn't do that this time? I did it, but I think we would have went, you know, once a month. What about Vegas? You meet with Vegas? Yes, I did. Atlanta? Yes, sir. Carolina? Yes sir. All right. Did you meet with Minnesota? I did. He did meet with Minnesota, didn't you? Okay. What about Baltimore? Anthony, did you chat with the Baltimore Ravens? Yes, I did. Okay. It's a lot of people kicking tires here. What about the jets? Do you meet with the jets? Yes, sir. Okay. What about New England? You chat with New England? Yes, sir. Okay. New England. You met with most of the league. This is great. Do you mean what Dallas? The Dallas meet you? I don't think so. Okay. You'd remember meeting Jerry Jones. I think. You definitely, what about New Orleans? You meet with the saints? Yes, sir. Okay. Tennessee. You meet with them? Yes, sir. Okay. Washington? Yes, sir. Tampa? Yes, sir. Boy, you shook a lot of hands. You shook a lot of hands. What do these teams, what do they get if they draft you? What are they getting Anthony Richardson if they say we're going to draft you, Anthony Richardson? We're going to move up. We're going to talk. Or we're going to go, we're going to go hope that you drop. And we draft you. What are they getting Anthony Richardson? Who do they get? A lot of people said I have a lot of data to fix and work on and I wanted to do all that for anything. I think you know, I wonder if it was hard being an early morning late night whenever I need to be. Just to be the best version of myself so I can provide to the team in many ways they perform that I can. Anthony Richardson, I really, I'll be honest, I don't know if anybody told you maybe not. I'm sitting up there in the booth on NFL network. And I was outraged. You didn't get to throw more go deep balls. I wanted to see more. I'd be honest. It was so entertaining. You know? I want to see, you know? And I think at one point you stepped out there and they told you, we're going to look at somebody else. Didn't that happen? At one point, I thought you were getting out there. On the drill. The order was a little different for us. We went numerical order and then they were called different guys up. I thought I was on deck to go and then they called somebody up. I wasn't really complaining. Everybody got their side by that river. Sorry. I was complaining. Don't worry. I was the one complaining. I want to see more. And did you hit it off with Stroud and the other guys? Do you get to know these guys? The rest of their quarterbacks that were out there? Definitely. We pretty much known each other for a while. We see in our CJ Bryson and we went to different countries at a high school. So we've known each other for quite some time. Whenever we see each other, there's all smiles that at the end of the day we're still going to compete with each other. And that must blow your mind a little bit that you've known each other. Now you're here at a combine and you're going to go to the draft and you're going to get drafted and you're going to go to the NFL. What's that moment going to be like for you? If you envision that, if you allow yourself to envision that moment, Anthony? It's definitely different. You know, I think about all the time whenever I see guys and my family in the league, you know, like I was like, I was just playing with those guys in this exercise and listen to see what they're doing. And now it's my turn. I get to deal with the guys like for future games in the hospital. And I see that now we were just talking about that. The other day we were like, but we can do it for so long and live our dreams. And sometimes it doesn't feel real, but the times and we almost there. Congratulations in advance, Anthony. I really enjoyed watching you work out this weekend. You lit up the place. Absolutely lit up the place and then Twitter was lit. "8 four four two four rich is the number to dial here on the program. I had four great days of the combine and without question the most memorable moment of the combine is when this man stepped on the field. And ran his 40 and worked out and in the buzz that he created the combine was significant. Certainly, since I've been at this combine 18 years, he is up there in terms of quarterbacks that set the place buzz and things trending on Twitter from the university of Florida right here on the rich eisen show Anthony Richardson. How are you doing? Good, how about you? I'm great. What'd you think of the combine? What'd you think? It was great. I enjoyed every bit of it, you know, I was smiling at the air the whole time I was there. So I thought it was a great well, I saw you were smiling from year to year when you saw it was a four four four that you ran your 40. So I'll be honest, I wanted to see to run again. Was there any chance you were going to run that again after that? Anthony? Honestly, I don't know. I think I could have went again, but my goal time was for it. And I hate it. I just brought some more resource to make the house like that. Are you going to run at your pro day or you're just done? You're just going to rest on that. What do you think? I think I did pretty well. Right now. Okay. So Anthony Richardson, breaking news, you have run the last 40 yard dash of your life is basically what you're saying. You're not running another 40. Okay. Very good. So now let's just jump into it as well. Teams that you met with, how many teams did you meet with at the combine? And Anthony Richardson. Honestly, I might have met with about 20 22 things. Did they ask you the same thing over and over again? Or did one stand out for you? Pretty much asked the same thing. They were really just trying to get to know who I am as a person. So that was pretty much the general topic. It is where I am actually when it comes to the game of football. Okay, so who are you as a person then when they asked you that question? I'll give you the floor, not like I've got a grease board here or anything for a full interview, but this is kind of like an interview. Who are you as a person, Anthony Richardson? I'm on down love's family and loves football. I definitely love football just because it would have brought you for my family and not provide help me help my family know we're able to travel the world and see different things is able to provide for us in different ways and many people can think of. So I'm a family person and a football person. And so what do you say when you're readiness to play day one in the NFL is question, Anthony? What do you say? I'm just letting them know I've been playing football in my life, you know, the game only going to get quicker, faster, stronger, a little bit more mental. So I feel like I'm able to adapt whenever my name is called. So I feel like I'm ready. You know nobody should question who I am as a person of who I am on the field because I've only came a lot. I believe. So you think you could play start day one in the National Football League, Anthony? Definitely. Okay. And what do you say to teams that are wondering about your last year and why Florida didn't win as many games as say Georgia, Alabama, any other teams? What do you say to those teams asking you about your win loss record from your last year? A lot of people see that record and they think we are a good team, a lot of people exceed the record, they say, oh, that's a religious thing. You can't even go 500 and receive, but to that, I just say, they don't know that at the end of the game. They don't understand what we go through daily. Understand how hard we work. Sometimes they don't fall away that comes with the game. I feel like I stepped into a team last step on the team, but I'm there to contribute more and provide any way I can. I feel like I did that every game. What did you learn from this year then, Anthony? What did you learn from this one? Definitely control what I can control. It's not literally football in the world where I can just put it by everybody. I can't do this running around everybody. So I learned how to make it again. Especially as a quarterback. I can't try to make every big play. I just got to take with the game using the best a bit further. Who is in your inner circle? Who do you rely on? Football wise and just life wise to counsel you and and or keep your head on straight, anything like that, who's in your inner circle, Anthony Richardson. If you don't mind sharing. I definitely would love my family just to keep me grounded and just always remind me why I'm the person. When it comes to football, I talk to my agent and I talk to my mentor on their brow, they keep me focused on me and a lot of what I want to hear. So thank you for those guys on that part of my team. What do they tell you that you don't want to hear? Give me an example. You got one of them? For me?

"But I think it's a benefit, sure. Derek Carr in the saints that looks like that could be close to happening. Your thoughts about that? Yeah, I always felt like the news from this morning of the Derek Carr leaning towards the jets was a jets kind of gamesmanship thing. Hey Aaron, we need a decision here to get the ball rolling on this. I think Derek's a good player. Oh, you think the judge were playing they were trying to toy with Aaron Rodgers? Yeah, let's go. The time is of the essence here. Okay. That's what I thought it was. A gamesmanship play, 'cause it's just that scene that they were attached to Aaron forever. And I knew Derek, you know, wanted to get a decision done. The saints, I think of the last week, and it might be a little bit of a different number because I think they have reworked some contracts for $55 million over the cap. So while yes, I like Derek's fit there, what does the team look like? 'cause they're gonna have to get rid of somebody or move money around somehow to fit his deal under there. So I just wanna see what the makeup of the team is before sitting there and totally making a proclamation, but yes, the initial starting point is really good spot very young offensive line in some spots that is talented. A lobby is a superstar. So there is initially the like of that fit for sure. Yeah, I get it, and you're going to the NFC south where he's immediately the best quarterback in the NFC south. Totally. That's not saying too much. Will levis was talking to good game. He's got a cannon for an arm and he couldn't wait to show it off. Did you come away and pressed? I expected will to throat really well. The only thing that I get with will is this. And I like will, I talked to Willie's obviously a Connecticut kid. I'm rooting for him. You know, like, and I said this on the shows last week, I would play a couple specific clips of his game from last year. Like there's a clip where he misses some throws in my naked eye when you watch it. You're like, man, that's a bad miss. And I would want to play the play for him and just say, hey, tell me about what happened on this play. And I think you'll gather so much information from how does he see the field? What is he looking at? What is he being taught? How does he process information? Does he throw his receivers under the bus? Does he throw his coaching under the bus? 'cause they're some misses on tape where you go. That looks weird. And I want to know why that ended up looking that way. And then I think, you know, for a guy that he's a little bit different or like the contrast of the Anthony Richardson for me, because Anthony for 6 four two 40s loose. That's it's kind of Josh again, like for as muscular as he is. He's loose. Will's a little bit stiffer. He's a little bit stockier. And I think, you know, that messes with his lower half and upper half being connected and rhythmic. He's gonna have to work really hard to gain rhythm in his passing game. Super talented and can throw it with anybody, I just think you want to grow with the rhythm of the past. Always good to talk to you. Congratulations on the best sector. Thanks, man. I got it done. Played basketball the next morning. Oh, you did. Yeah. Just tough. Connecticut kids are tough, you know. I told Louis Riddick about you with your 40 yard dash. He did not know that you cheated to make yourself seem faster when you were recruited by Yukon. Lewis barely talked to me in indie last week at the combine, so that's probably gonna be. Well, his combine numbers, I think he ran a four 7 40. Louis? Yeah. At the combine. That's pretty good for a safety, right? I don't know, he's embarrassed by it. He was like, do not. Do not bring that up. Cut a leg off for four 7. But what did you run when you made it a 37 yard dash? That day I ran four 8. Combine, and then at the combine, they just did it this morning. I ran four 9. I said, I told green, I said green. That was like 12 years of wearing jump souls to school, ankle weights, running with a parachute on my back just to get to 4.9, so. Wait, you ran a four 9 in Lewis Riddick rent. We're in a four 7 two. Yeah, but Louis is like 25 years older than me. That's 25, maybe 15, sorry. Sorry, Lou. Yeah, but his time when he ran it, and when you ran it. I mean, it doesn't matter, you still ran a 40 yard. Basically what we're getting to is Lewis was not that fast, much faster than me. Man, that's not gonna fly with Louis that much. But you know what is so bizarre mean at times ran a four 6 four? There's no way. Unbelievable. Yeah, she bent past two 25, 13 times, and at a vertical 34. I mean we make fun of me all the time, 'cause she's like, guys, I was such a good bar, so you look soccer player and we're like, yeah. "Have a lot of kids. Oh, you did do a vasectomy. Yeah, yeah, funny story, Dan. So good morning, great to be with you. We have my wife and I have triplet sons. They're 11 right now. So we have three boys. We had the three boys. We had gotten to like, there were three and a half years old, just about, you could imagine having triplets, three and a half years, what that span of time was like, we had just like traveled with them and done it easily. They had just become out of diapers all that stuff and I was like, yo, we made it. And my wife and I had kind of agreed, all right, we're not gonna have another kid because our big fear was a fourth boy, and then you're always the boy of the triplets. You're the brother of the triplets. And I had a vasectomy planned. We went out a trip to Napa with friends ahead of a second. He planned for the week after on the playwright home. My wife's like, I don't feel good. I jokingly go like, oh, you're pregnant, you know? Long story short, she was pregnant. And so the vasectomy got delayed a year, but I finally got it done. A very potent Dan orlowski joining us. On the program. Speaking of which, Anthony Richardson certainly came away as the combined darling here. I always get nervous when we have these combined darlings here. We fall in love with numbers here. Yeah. Are you all in on Anthony Richardson? Yeah, I have been honestly since the first game of his that I called in college football, Dan. I called one of his first games in college football at Florida. And I just remember being on air going. Why is he not the starting quarterback? Yes. You know, and these coaches like Dan mull and I have a tremendous amount of respect for it with the transfer stuff that goes on in the end. It's such a delicate balance of trying to what quarterback. It's no longer just play the bet. I feel like they got a massage all these situations so much. So, but every game I called of his, I was just like, this kid is so super talented. And then the more you heard about him, how intelligent he is, how hard he works, the character, all that stuff. And I just think of kind of taking a quarterback in the draft we know is, you know, good luck. Roll the dice type of thing. If you're rolling the dice, if you're taking your chance, you're big, you're fast, you're strong, you're powerful, you're a natural thrower, you have great intelligence, you work really hard. You've got good leadership skills and good character. Where is the glaring? Oh my gosh, you might fail. And I would say this about him. Everyone talks about the completion percentage, right? 53%. If we broke it down, I did this for Josh Allen when he was coming out because I thought that was a crock of crap as well. This is like two more completions a game. He's at like 61% completion percentage. Two completions game, we're talking to throw away. We're talking to miss check down. We're not talking these glaring issues, at least I don't see. And while I understand the combine pause on the numbers, we can't take it for granted either. I mean, what he is is incredibly talented. Okay, but you say this and you're going to look at Josh Allen, but you're also using the same kind of comparison with Anthony Richardson. Anthony Richardson plays for Florida in the SEC and Josh Allen lost all of his receivers there that last year when he was at Wyoming. So I can't buy into those comparisons between the two. Florida had very little talent this year. I mean, they didn't have Wyoming talent. They had better talent than Wyoming did. Josh lost his receivers after his junior year there. It was, but I mean, this is a kid who won new coaching staff with Billy Napier. Two, so he's learning a new system too. Their number one receiver was, I think he was the transfer from Arizona state. He not going to go play in the NFL or unlikely. I mean, I don't think he has a single offensive. I don't think Anthony Richardson had a single offensive player skill wise outside of ETN's little brother that is going to be an NFL player. Well, we know Josh Allen didn't have that. Correct. But Josh Allen wasn't playing against Tennessee and Alabama and Georgia and I mean, Josh Allen was playing against those guys either. So that's well, I understand that. We're talking, you know, like having very little help in the SEC conference. Okay. But you see that his player comp is Josh Allen. That's for me. Yes, because that's where I think the path is. And I think Josh, well, what I liked about Josh coming out of school was Joshua's a very loose thrower, like it wasn't tight. That's why I keep saying he's a very natural thrower. Like, you know, Daniel better watch a guy pick up a ball and throw. Yeah, he was born to do that. I think Anthony has that natural throwing motion. Okay, who takes him? Who should take him? If you were advising, you would say this team take him. Yeah, I'll give you three. I think indie, Houston and Carolina should very much so be entertaining, taking him. Dan, I said this this morning and get up. If you're an AFC team and you don't have a really, really, really good quarterback. What are your chances in the next 8 years? With Patrick Josh Joe, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence. I mean, what are your chances with those teams? Those are 5. I'm not even putting what two will become. Lamar? Bar situation. So if you're Indian, you're Houston, you're sitting there going. If we don't have a really good player that is physically talented and can go toe to toe, those guys, what are our chances, no matter what our roster is. And then Carolina just because I think I could put any of these quarterbacks in Carolina then. I just think it's a tremendous situation. It's the best situation for a rookie quarterback to go into. This year. So I could put any guy at that spot. Would you take Richardson over Bryce young? I wouldn't. If I was the general manager, I wouldn't. I think Bryce is a uniquely skilled player that has all the attributes that you look for. Like I think Bryce the only way Bryce doesn't become a very good pro is because he can't hold up. And that's a real thing for people, like they're going to, they're going to say, yes, we're okay with it. Or no, we're not. And I understand that. If you're in the know I'm not camp, if you're not okay with his size, then you probably take Anthony. If you're okay with this size, because his tape is the best and most impressive tape since Joe burrow's tape in college. He's the guy that does the most stuff you go. That's what it looks like since Joe. But are you a believer in product of your environment that you're going to hold up in Chicago or would he be better served playing half of his game indoors in Houston or Indy? I mean, I think any quarterback he's better served in indoors, you know? I think so I definitely would say that, yeah, that's probably the benefit. And here's the big challenge for you more than the weather Dan is, if you're an organization that you think you can draft and develop good offensive linemen, then you're in a good place. 'cause you're gonna keep them clean. And just I've said this, go watch his Texas game. Just go watch that game. Go watch the Tennessee game and watch how much he operates in like very small spaces and count the amount of big hits he takes in those games. I understand it's the different level in the NFL. I get all that. But just watch him move and it's almost a little more conversation a little bit at Lamar doesn't take massive shots because of his short space just feel and awareness. Bryce has got that as well. I don't think he has to play inside,

"To play for the jets. There it is. I like how there's a report that Derek Carr is leaning towards the jets. Like literally is a leaning or what's that mean he's leaning. And does Derek Carr get to make the choice here? Is it the jets who say, you know what? Hold on here. I'm leaning, leaning towards the jets over Carolina and the saints. Yes, time. I thought it was more of a jets other jets leaning toward him. I know he wants to make it sound like he's got his pick of the litter of Carolina, the same thing. But I think it's the phrase is that he's leaning towards the jets. Is that right? Yeah, that's what I heard, but it sounded weird to me too. Isn't it the Jess that I deciding whether they want to go all in on Derek Carr? But then there was another report that it basically the saints are ready to make an offer to bring in Derek Carr. And then you have the Carolina possibility here. Anthony Richardson is, is he done with his pro days and combine days? All the measurables are in. Tomorrow is hand sized Tuesday. So I can't spoil that, but Anthony Richardson, the Florida quarterback, measured 6 foot four even 244 pounds. Two 44 44. That's officially. He's like Dante culpepper, man. And 6 four two, that's probably Cam Newton measured at 6 foot four. I think cam may have been just a touch heavier but I got checked that. He ran a 4.43 40 yard dash, which would be good for a wide receiver or running back. And he crushed everyone in the vertical jump the broad jump and everything else. I don't know if those things mean anything. And he throws the ball so hard. I don't want my quarterback who throws it extremely hard. I want him to be extremely accurate and have a catchable ball. But he's got all the measurables, which still bring me back to didn't I think he completed like 58% of his passes. Then it is numbers were okay. I think 600 yards. What do you have like 16 touchdowns, 8 interceptions? Yeah. Yeah, as last year, Florida, anti Richardson, it was third year, but he's considered a sophomore. He was a 54% pass or 2500 yards, 17 touchdowns and 9 picks. They're okay. That doesn't jump out at me. But the highlight of the positive way. The highlights that were posted in September though are a lot of people remember. Yes. When he was, he won the Heisman in the September in September. September Heisman. Septem is what we called him, right, I think. But Anthony Richardson, and now it feels like it's Bryce young, then Anthony Richardson, then CJ Stroud, then will levis. But we got a lot of time before the draft. You're going to get and everybody's pro day, it's rare when somebody has a bad pro day. And I'm sure Anthony Richardson is going to have an incredible pro day where he rolls left throws back right for 60 yards, just like Zach Wilson did. But, you know, I love Dan Campbell the Lions. We grade on tape, game tape, not guys running in their pajamas. Yes, Marv. The upside is through the roof, Dan. Hot take. And here's Anthony Richardson, a quarterback at Florida, and that is a four four 9. All right, let me take a break. Play of the day is up next. Phone calls as well. We'll dive into the John morant story after this. "He waited. And it didn't go well for Will Smith. That's for sure. I don't know what the numbers are for Chris Rock. I know it was a two special $40 million. I believe for Chris Rock, on Netflix. So you got 20 million for that. So he should give will a cut of that. I mean, come on. Without that, we're not tuning in for a Saturday Night Live performance by Chris Rock. But Chris did not mince words. He came at Will Smith. He certainly hit will a lot harder than will hit him. I'm going to say that. Poll question for our two seat and I don't even know if I knew what poll question was in hour one. We had up there a very lopsided pole Dan. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson's record breaking combine performance means dot dot dot. I'd actually submitted this one. He's destined to be great or relatively nothing. Okay. 95% of the audience right now say relatively nothing. All it takes is one team. The Raiders to fall in love with him and he'll be a top ten draft pick perhaps. Go back to September and I reached out to a source and he said, give me your sense. And the response I got from my source was he's the reminds me of Roethlisberger in size and, you know, he can take on hits. But the ability to run at that height, you would say Cam Newton, but the comparison I got was Dante culpepper. And culpepper was probably two 65. Maybe 6 four 6 5 two 65. Him and he was, that's his large as anybody has ever been playing that quarterback. Playing that position. And doing it with athleticism. And then he blew out his knee, and then that was the end of Dante culpepper, but he played for the Vikings had a couple of really good years, but Anthony Richardson certainly had all the measurables. I don't care about the measurables. I just want to know, can you play football? Because the NFL has been littered with draft picks of man, that guy. Four, four, 40. That guy, vertical 38, that guy did X number on two 25. 20 reps. I don't care about that. I want to know, what did you do in a game? And when I sit down with you, are you healthy? And if we talk football, do you love the game? Do you want to be great? Those are the things that I would start out with. Yes. How much do you think coaches look at, say, a player like that and just see raw talent and think, I can, like, I can work with that. You know? We can make him into a great football player. I think every coach has to have that mindset of, oh, he didn't work out for that guy, or they didn't take advantage of that guy. I will. You know, Sean Payton with Russell Wilson. Hey, all proved that I can make that guy great. Or what's going to happen with Justin Fields with the bears or somebody's going to take Bryce young ago, see? I don't care how short he is. Small he is. He knows how to play football. You have to have that mindset of, I could make a difference with that guy. I could be the coach that unlocks that potential. I can't remember if it was Charles Davis or someone else. They were discussing Anthony Richardson of Florida saying, what team makes sense because they did want to use the word project prospect, all that kind of stuff upside, but they mentioned the Detroit Lions, Detroit Lions got that high draft pick out of nowhere from the rams. They don't need a quarterback this year to lead them. They have Jared Goff to lead them, at least in the near future under contract considered a good player, a guy like anti ridden this is what they were saying at the command, Anthony Richards can absolutely sit a year and would not need to play one down, and that could be a franchise that has been searching for quarterbacks for years, and they may have both. Well, I would suggest that he sat down for a little while, because he didn't do anything in Florida that was consistent enough for me to say he should be competing for a job. He had highlights. But this is where we get fooled when you go, oh my God, you see that? And then you realize, what did he do the rest of the time? I saw Kentucky play Florida. And if you would have said both of those guys are going in the top ten, I'd be like, nope. Nope. Don't see it. And they probably are. Both those quarterbacks. Now, you know, there's been reports now that well levis maybe played through injuries. This past season, a bad toe, turf toe, maybe something with shoulder. I get it. But watching them, I just didn't see anything where I went, okay. And you can talk on arm strength and that doesn't matter to me. Can you put the ball where you need to put it? And that position is so much about anticipation. It's not when you quarterback in college. And if you're really good, you're going to complete 60% of your passes and probably have 30 touchdowns. Anthony Richardson didn't even have 20 touchdowns and completed 54% of his passes. That to me is a concern. Now, it might be something where you tweak it, or you know what he was doing or not to, you know what? I'll save this because Dan orlowski is going to join us coming up a little bit. And I'll get his thoughts on all of this. Is Anthony Richardson going to be worth all of the hype that's attached to it. All right. Poll question for hour two seat in is what? We have another one here from Todd, actually. That's kind of a fun one. I would wear the franchise tag as a badge of a badge of honor or a scarlet letter. This can be taken both ways. Do I want? I don't want the franchise tag. It's a lot of money though. It is, but I want to get a big contract. By not getting that big contract now, they're saying, I don't know if you're worth that big contract there. So I would shy away from that. All right, we'll get phone calls coming up. John morant, we know the story. Led the Memphis Grizzlies number two seed in the west last year. He said all star and you could see maturity on the court, but certainly not off the court. And there had been there had been stories where it was alleged that he did something, or the guys, his boys around him did things. Now there's no alleging. We saw what happened, his Instagram account, where he's in a strip club in Denver, and he's showing that he has a gun. All he's got his shirt off. It's pretty clear there. There's no alleging anything there. He had a gun. And then the NBA got involved. Now the NBA is still investigating. The source just told me about 20 minutes ago. The grizzlies are not using the word suspend in their statement and that jaw is agreeing with Memphis to step away from the team for a couple of games. The NBA is still investigating. So there's no suspension. It's he said, I got to step away. So he's out indefinitely, says he has to get a better understanding of the situation. But you start to wonder about this and what is he 23 years of age, and he was a story that we rooted for. And I'm not using this platform to condemn him. Now, if this happens again or something else, then we're going to condemn him. This should be a footnote in three years. This should be cash. When we talk to him, and then you say, you know, who was that person three years ago? You know what? I was trying to be something that I'm not grew up, you know, my parents were there. I have a sister, I nobody wanted me out of high school. I proved them wrong. I'm here. I'm one of the best players. Like all of these things we should be talking positive about. But we don't with Memphis. And you're wondering, is there I wondered about this when we had all of those incidents on the floor? Who is that veteran who can grab those guys and say, listen to me? And I didn't know if it was Steven Adams, but you

"To take the guy number one. I would also say that it's going to be a lot made of the idea that they're going to trade that tick. Every team in my 20 years covering the league who had the number one pick and did not have an urgent quarterback need, wanted to trade it. Because in the old days, pre 2011, the contracts were so astronomical, you're given Sam Bradford 78 million or whatever guaranteed coming out of college when he hasn't played it down. Even now in the slotted system, you still would rather move back because, you know, you move back two spots, three spots. You're picking up a future first round pick. That's how valuable it is, according to every trade chart, but somebody is going to want to give it has to want to give you that pick. So the real question is, are any of these guys somebody that other teams below, whether it's the Texans at two, the polls for do any of them go, we have to get up to number one and take this guy. And to your point, Dan, I don't know, and we'll see the process always kind of has the stuff shake out. Is there going to be somebody that everybody's really comfortable with? Questions on brace young, we just covered it is just going to be the frame and the durability. You got CJ Stroud, obviously, highly productive password, Ohio State, but there have been a lot of highly productive passers at Ohio State. They all come in with some level of the same question to them. What do you call it an issue? Because it can be overcome, but the question is, can they read things the way that NFL quarterbacks do? Because they're just taught differently. They're taught what Ryan day does with them is just different than what they're asked to do in the NFL. With will levis, it's going to be, you know, can he just kind of put it all together? Does he have deploys? Last year was a rough year. I Kentucky. But he had nobody knew how hurt will levis was last year. He had a really serious turf toe injury that he kept re aggravating over and over with. Anybody who's ever had serious turf toe knows, I mean, you can barely walk much less go out there and play quarterback. And he had a non throwing shoulder injury. So that really impacted his mobility. He was having to shoot up the toe and the shoulder on a weekly basis. He didn't go to the senior bowl. He is going to throw here in Indianapolis, so you'll get a view on him. And then he got Anthony Richardson who is a traits player all the way. He's got the big arm, he's got the athletic ability, height weight speed, all that. But as one high ranking executive who I trust told me like, quarterback isn't a traits position. You normally don't draft a guy who's a one year starter at quarterback, who hasn't really had the productivity because you think you can just make him into something the next level. You don't drop that guy in the first. You might drop them in the fourth, but Anthony Richardson, people would be shocked within league. And he doesn't go in the first round. He's going to do everything out here.

"Does just mean more. For those who don't know, I host a SiriusXM show Monday through Friday. And I always take Tuesday and Thursdays off to play golf of my dad. Just use my best friend. We do that all the time. And he's getting a little bit older. And we spent probably three hours a day on the golf course talking nothing but LSU in Florida. And it's just so funny about like, I cherish those relationships and I cherish that, the fact that we get a chance to talk to him all the time, just reminded me that of John and talking about his dad over there. Tim is in Tennessee. What's up, Tim? Hi, buddy. How you doing? I'm doing great, bud. How are you? Oh, I'm fine. Thank you. Look here, I've been trying to get old y'all. Week to week to week, I appreciate you taking my call. I love all you doing a fantastic job. Thank you, Tim. I appreciate that. Paul is the goat. I'm just trying to keep the seat warm for him for a day. What are you doing good? I just want to talk about stuff. I got a question. I thought a football game football team amongst every player on the field. Brass and you know people saying if he don't play as Chancellor. If he does play, it's a sure deal. I need 11 maintain offense and defense. That's correct. You know, and I mean, I know, don't get me wrong. We ain't been able to beat Alabama for years. But we've got a chance to do that this year. We've got a great team. Wonderful thing. I just don't understand these people talking about ten of these ugly estates in the country. Apparently that dude in Alabama never denied all about them. You know? As far as Knox will go. But I'm just wondering why they think just because Brian is in there or bride is in there, they're going to be there. But if the aim in that, they can't be. It just don't make no sense. And Tennessee has got one of the best teams I've had ten years. So I'm not just trying to get your perspective on that. And see what you said, say about that. Tim, thank you for the phone call in the nice compliment earlier. I think the reason why people feel including myself feel that if Bryce young plays at Alabama has the upper hand. And the reason why I say that is that I'm a firm believer that Bryce young's not going to play unless he's a 100%. If he's 90%, I don't think I don't think he plays in this game because that means that he wouldn't have got the full green light and he can do the things needed that Bill O'Brien and Nick Saban want him to do on the field. So I say that if Bryce young can play, that means that they think Bryce young can do everything that he could normally do if he was a 100% healthy. And that's the big question mark. Because the big question mark is Tennessee's secondary right now about look at what Anthony Richardson was able to do, okay? May Anthony Richardson threw for 68 yards or something like that last week against what Missouri. He also threw for what almost 500 yards against this Tennessee secondary right now. So I think people, that's the reason why they feel that it's if Bryce plays, it's Alabama, if not, then it's a coin flip game. It might lean towards Tennessee. I think it's just a question on the secondary right now. And by the way, I said that the most important thing about this game is not Bryce young. It's not Jalen Miller, it's not hidden hooker. I think the key to this game on Saturday is Tennessee's defensive line. If they're able to stop either jaylen Miller or Bryce young and they're able to get some pressure on him and more importantly, stop jameer Gibbs, okay? Then that's the big distinguishing mark on who's going to win

"Instability. Talking to match stitch come about the weekend. Matt, let me get to Knoxville because the narrative is already in written in stone about where this series has been, but what are you looking for in terms of the keys to victory, especially for Florida with Anthony Richardson? Yeah, I think pressure is a big thing in this game. I think pressure has played a big role in Florida's performance and specifically Anthony Richardson's performance. I thought it was really telling to hear Dan Mullen kind of validate that perception that going into the game versus Utah, nobody thinks Florida is going to win. Utah is the favorite, top ten team, all the things. So it's kind of less pressure in that regard because the expectations might be lower, at least towards victory. And so you can play maybe looser. And since then, obviously, some would consider a breakout performance. The conference named Anthony Richardson offensive player of the week. That week, then struggles since then. And Tennessee, as we know, can school points has four points. That puts a lot of pressure on the opposing team, not just offensively, but in general, in fact, stadium is one of the most intimidating places to play. And you have to believe that this might be the most electric crowd that they've had in a long, long time. Certainly the most engaged one, how does Florida respond to that pressure? They got to keep that scoreboard under control. They need to string together drives. It's not just about the passing offense. They need to find a way to possess the football, get it into the red zone if for nothing else for field position purposes and an opportunity to get points on the board because otherwise, if you let it get away from you early, I don't know how this Florida team early in doing Napier's tenure is going to respond to that level of oppression.

"Kind of the short term, just by way of things are. But the way Billy is recruiting well in this 23 class, the way I think he closed well, all things considered in the 22 recruiting class, his pedigree, what he did at Bama. Now you had the facilities in there. 23, 24. Yeah, I think Florida could be pretty good. I don't know that it's going to show up immediately. And definitely not week one against Utah. Matt, I know gator fans are tough on people like you when you make honest evaluations. And so I'm curious, when you make a statement like that, you get reaction. And I know you're a professional and you can't be as concerned as some in the industry about what the negative nabobs of negativism are saying on Twitter, but what do you hear from fans when they say I know other than all the personal attacks? What is their response in terms of credible opinions about why the Gators are going to be 9 and three, ten and two, even 8 and four? So if I'm going to make that argument, the argument I've heard from fans. First of all, Utah is really good, but Utah is playing in the swamp in front of what should be a great crowd. In early September, the humidity is going to be a 1000% that doesn't that's a tough matchup for Utah. Just in terms of that. So if you're going to make the argument for why Florida should win that, those factors into it. But the other thing, like I said, dancing Richardson. Plain and simple. You know as well as I do, Paul, that in this sport, if you have a quarterback that's more than half the battle. And we have seen flashes of Anthony Richardson being the most talented quarterback Florida since Cam Newton, pivot. I mean, it's been a while since they've had somebody who can run like him and who can throw like him. So if Billy needer can unlock that. And if Anthony Richardson can take a step forward from being a guy who's shown flashes of it to doing it consistently weekend week out and making the right read, making the right decision to tuck and run, all that stuff, then yeah, Florida can be pretty darn good. I would not bet on that yet just because we haven't seen it. Anthony Richards got one start. I think it's 39 career completions. I don't have enough yet. I don't have a sample size big enough yet to make me really believe that it's going to happen. I need to see more first. So you mentioned Richardson. Give us a name on this football team, maybe on both sides of the ball that will have to play a critical role to elevate your rather pessimistic prediction. Wiki pierce all wide receiver transfer from Arizona is definitely. The receiving core, it hasn't wowed me. I think they have some good players, but I don't see a Trayvon Grimes. I don't see a kid Darius Tony. I don't see anybody like that. They've got size, but they don't have the explosiveness and Twitch Netflix. Ricky can do that. He showed flashes of it at Arizona state where he was one of their better receivers. And from what I've seen in this camp, he's got that explosiveness. He's also been limited by injuries. So again, that's kind of another reason why I'm a little pessimistic on the Gators. And I guess I'd probably say geron Dexter. Just because he's got a ton of talent. He's got the size. He's got the strings. He's got all that stuff. He was a 5 star recruit for a reason. But he hasn't quite put it together yet. He's still relatively new to football. He's not like he's been playing it his whole life. But if the Gators can continue to mold him and develop him into getting close to that potential, then they've got a very disruptive force on the D line, which you can never have enough good de alignment. Great stuff from Matt baker as the Gators get ready for Utah on week one. Many thanks. It's always great to hear from you. You too. Thanks, Paul. Great stuff. I always love a guy who covers a team. Given honest prediction, I mean, how rare is that in this world that we live in that someone lives in a tough state like Florida that's willing to say, I think 6 and 6, knowing your name is going to be roasted by gator fans. We'll take a short break. We're coming right back. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. "But what you said about Florida wasn't it's just a Florida fan. It was not revolutionary, but they were very mad because so what does that in 2020? You live down there. I mean, you live in you live in Gainesville. What should we expect from the Gators this year? So I think that really depends on how good Anthony Richardson is. Because an elite quarterback can make up for a lot. But Florida's roster is not really where it needs to be, receiver and linebacker, kind of the thinnest positions. And they got to find some guys there. But if Anthony Richardson is good, then I think it can make for a better season. I think the folks in Gainesville are resigned to a pretty average season. And the thing is, I said this on your show last time, this is the one that got tweeted out and blown up, which blew my mind because it just told me that people haven't actually been watching college football in the last few years. When I said that Florida has the toughest opening two games in America with Utah and Kentucky, that's still true. That hasn't changed. So if they can split those, I think you should be pretty happy, but also you look at what Billy Napier is doing behind the scenes, you look at the way he's organized the program. They are doing the things that need to be done to win in the SEC. Whether they will actually win in the SEC is another story. It's, you know, you've got to be able to do it on the field, you got to manage the games properly. But they are doing the things in recruiting and behind the scenes, staffing, that sort of thing, that it takes to win. So they've now paid the price of admission. And now we'll see if they can get it done. We're really late here, but it's my fault. One last question because we're talking about Florida, but can you explain to us what's going on with Dan Mullen? He took some weird high school gig the other day in Georgia. I could not. I thought he was coming to work with you guys. I thought he was going to be your co host, Paul. I just assumed he was going to co host the Paul fine bomb show for a year and then hop back in because listen Dan Mullen can still coach some ball. The guy's been very successful. I think you put Dan Mullen at the head of a group of 5 program or a program in a different power 5 conference. He can win you some games. So, you know, it's a good buyout life he's got going on right now and maybe he just wants to decompress for a little while and get back to the basics. But I just figured a year co hosting with Paul and it looked 20 hours of live radio a week is very difficult. So you'd have somebody to bounce, bounce stuff off. He said, I'll do the show, but the bald guy has to go. Paul, you could be living that by out life then. Glad you said it. Maybe somebody's watching. "By the way, Jim Harbaugh always struggles to beat Michigan state. It's always interesting and weird. Remember one time Michigan had the wind. They're punting the ball away and they messed up the punt. It got blocked or still whatever happened and it gave a Michigan state a touchdown. They lost that way. I like the final play of the game. So every year, Michigan has trouble with Michigan state, it should be fun. It should be interesting and I'm so pumped for that storyline. What's going to happen with Michigan Michigan state this year? I'm like, oh, can we please get them both 7 to go into that game? Now also this past weekend, LSU beat number 20, Florida, 49 to 42. Florida to four to two. Four to three, four interceptions between two different quarterbacks in this game. LSU led for most of the game like Florida, they were up 6 to nothing and then they couldn't score after that. Florida freshman quarterback Anthony Richardson played a decent amount this year, in this gaming it's LSU. He played the most he's played all year. In my opinion moving forward, Anthony Richardson should be the full time starting quarterback of Florida moving forward. And I bet a lot of angry Florida fans are calling for Dan Mullen's job, the afforded head coach. I would relax. I think you just gotta wait and let Florida has basically emery Jones who is not a very good quarterback. And they're basically waiting until Anthony Richardson can be the full time starting quarterback. He's a freshman, he's still developing, but once you figure out the quarterback situation, Florida is going to be just fine. And also, let's be honest, there's no, no matter who the coach is at Florida, they're not gonna dethrone Nick Saban and Alabama anytime soon. You got to let it happen naturally. Really what Florida needs to do is be patient. Stop calling for the coach's job. I don't know what coach can come into Florida. And beat Alabama quickly. I just don't like urban Meyers a pipe dream and nothing else even sounds feasible. So can we stop with the fire Dan Mullen thing? It's getting weird, and maybe Mario Cristobal comes from Oregon, but I don't know why he would leave organ. He's got a great thing. He's on top of the world. He commands that conference. So I don't know, man. Now, a weird note here is that LSU announced that they have fired their head coach.

ABC's good like another bell vo to all those groups were around that time to where all you guys just singing because hip hop stuff to just thinking and I was the wraparound the group so wait were you rapping I was like the the the but if from immature who are the sexy talking I did the sexist seven and eight I'm telling you you know all this time I've been playing around Oh yeah I've been playing with my gi Joe's and pogs girl and I've been thinking about you I know I'm nine man that is hilarious I know I'm in third grade girl but I'm drinking milk yeah so that's kind of how growing up I was I didn't how to confidence to sing so they will give me the parts while I was more like mellow talking Canada rapin Canada singing Adams found my singing voice until like fifteen sixteen so you're fifteen sixteen are you still in school yeah definitely graduate high school yet okay so you're singing all the way through high school all the we are you known as that kid the kid in high school like we're all noticed something I was nerd I was known as the singer Okay so you're singing all the way through and as you go through up until about twelve th grade at that point what is your biggest break before you graduate high school Aw I mean we met with a guy named Dr Massenburg he was over at motown and we were about to do a deal met him at the Intercontinental Embark Eh right by mall he looked me my brothers and my mother in the face a y'all have no words Mama they've been able to take care everything we won't sign wing you sat like two weeks later found out he was no longer with Motown town that was one of the moments that was like a huge moment and then do you think he lied to your do you think he got fired in the process of signing you on if you got fire of he just some happen where he just left but I just know the deal didn't happen right and after that outkast we don't want to deal with outkast you know it was you know at that term life they would just a dope group whose from Atlanta like Guy and I remember me with them and they wanted to sign my younger brother to a solo deal so he's going to do a solo deal and then you know me and my older brother like okay cool ooh that'd be fine once he gets all the way where he needs to be he he brings home and then that didn't go away we plan to either you know what I'm saying they're signing him he ended up signing to a whole another deal and he came up with a song or a few songs and yeah I mean what what what when you meet with outkast do you actually meet with Andrei Big Boy Yep like the guy show up and they're like all right this is the plant so they were doing things outside side of outcasts way early even before they blew up they were they will Purple Label and my dad actually just takes me that pitchy like two days ago and my phone like of us in the same room with them without shirts on taking pieces with them yeah so that didn't work out you graduate High School Yep and what's the plan then for you musically 'cause high school probably big deal to graduate high school what's for me where am I hold my whole life I was told you know stick to my art I went to school for art I got a Bachelor of fine arts in so we're not college though from high school to College Okay Okay so you then you decide to go to school where are you going to school where did you go to school I went to you okay and your thought when you go to college is Blank Finish College or learn music or make friends and my really my thought would college was be the person that went to college and if that don't work out just note that music is always number one either way I went down just you know pretty much as their are had degree and what did you study in school art so you study art but you're doing music yup okay so you're studying well what does it what does study aren't though what does that mean I mean I mean you go through all our theory in like paintings yet I sculptures like an op the not even music like you're a whole different track I I did I did all that like sculpturing and websites from dream we would Mac with three D. and do all that so even less than digital art stuff too yep and then if you were to have this let's just journey off a bit and let's say the music stub you end up getting an art degree if you were to pursue that what would you have done an art Oh man you know cartoon network or something yeah voice overs with some animations I could tell just Bella anything you can yeah a Squirrel Squirrel Squirrel pretty good duck one one one one more minute okay let's do more does it isn't an easy one how about a platypus because we have no idea what applaud sounds like I don't know okay maybe but earnestly XLII music was always the forefront but I didn't have confidence to do it I didn't have the confidence in myself so I just I just wanted to figure out how to be a part of it I started engineer straight out of college I started engineering so like the sound engineering so if you're listening right now what that is you had a computer and and you're basically adjusting the levels of everything to break it down like a five years old so your your engineering music and where
