But you didn't add up he's howard. It's twenty five grand. I know there's some margin in there somewhere and you know. Just just sell the car. And he was saying twenty-five because back then that was about what a new car is now. It's about thirty three thousand five sixty but how does your how do all your customers buy a new car in less than five years. Thirteen times in a lifetime and then all your customers say who would is he insurance. Do i say well. You know. I i would to the after i had four kids i went to insurance and i wanted to me but my insurance will only pay for castration. So guess what i did. I paid my own money to keep my own ball. Do you think the insurance company gives a shit about you. The bottom line is what do you want. And then here's the other thing my boys to this day. Even the oldest one's thirty when neither highschool friends get a new car. They always drive up by my house. And you know and you gotta go out there and you gotta look all excited and all this and you know and they always get it and they always turn the radio on for you hundred percent of the time and it's like you deny all of your patients from ever just having a smile makeover the because you were sitting there staring at the insurance form and just keeping him to a minimum. I mean we're talking about. How do you live below your means. America's live below their means. Your government didn't liberal. I mean my god. There are twenty three trillion dollars in debt and as an mba vermeille assu. You don't even want to know what i'm most afraid of right now because this thing looks like it looks like a bubble. It's black monday. The stock market fell a quarter than the y2k thing. That wasn't pretty blaming wasn't pretty. I've seen this movie four times. Their bidding up prices housing more houses were bought with a the initial bid was above the asking price on one out of five homes. I mean i know my monkeys. They're crazy they're crazy monkeys. And we're talking about living below your means but my homies can't even sell dentistry to people who've lived their whole life above their means. And if they don't get the smile makeover they're going to get the mustang. So why don't you get the smile makeover. And they wanna have gum disease instead of the mustang. But i think so. My question to you is this specifically to amber amber. All your girlfriends have a wedding ring. Where the diamond is bigger than mount rushmore. Or whatever how. Laremy corporation a maker of inexpensive plastic toys and action figures and larry's aggressive advertising sold twenty seven million super soaker in the first three years of production and after that innovations like increasing water carrying capacity altering water. Direction lengthening the distance of the water stream. The toy's popularity and to date laramie corporation and now hasbro which owns it has sold about two hundred million super soaker. Nine thousand ninety hundred thirty years ago though. If you think. I know chef it's tough to deal with A little more a little a couple of decades earlier though you got twister in nineteen sixty four toy inventor guyer came up with a shoe polish promotion as a game with a mat on the floor and people serving as the playing pieces geyer artists in a toy designer charles fully neil ribbons to help him with the development of the basic idea and the three devised a game that they called pretzel. "The mainstream game. This we're getting away from because. Game have gotten so much more interesting. And mechanics are Lussier and game play is got so much more going on and we sort of dismiss these games. But but the interesting thing is always to me that this is this is the foundation in like this is the history of of where everything came from and why it's their leg. Before Clue AG monopoly came up before clue and. We talked about game life and stuff before that. It was all. Checkers and Chess and most of the time anything board game, it was like Wigley and. And Games where you roll the dice and you moving like Candy Land and you move forward and you did stuff. So whenever a game like a clue comes out where it sort of changes, what you're doing like entirely and and this was done by. What's her name's even have their names in front of me right now. I was thinking about. Maybe. It's Anthony Pratt, Anthony Pratt, and not in the credit is his wife Eva who they designed the game together. She she drew the original board. He was super into mystery books and stuff. And they were into. Parlor Games and and they worked on this game together and they put this game together. But. Of course the way. Things. Work. This seems to be left out. But they hit start started with his buddy. Had actually published a game before. His Buddy put a game together called buccaneer. buccaneer. Buccaneer like pirates. Yeah. I don't think is a direct translation of buccaneer. But. He got up game published by WADDINGTON's, which is the big. Mall store I don't know. Yeah. Well, worth sort of thing, right? They. They had their hand and everything that was in one thousand, nine thirty that he had that published in one, thousand, nine, hundred, forty, three, Anthony Pratt was. Working in factories that were just making tank parts I. Think he was in Britain. Terrible Time War Britain is sort of on A. Clamp down from air raids and. I guess he was just like board and trying to trying to find ways I. Guess. What book is as reading the book, it's all a gain, just a history of board games. By Tristian, Donovan. A really fun book very short. Histories of of games. Quick Way to get. Fun Reads. But he was saying. People were kind of jerks during the war and they would just let it slide because. Well, it's war. What do you expect so? People were rude people were in, which is understand. Well, it's a pretty cranky time, but he was trying to, what can I do to help read the gist of it and decided he played A buck near with his buddy and he decided well, maybe we can make a game too. So him and his wife who loved murder mysteries and Parlor Games took the concept of the parlor game. where it sort of social deduction game and people walk around and talk to each other, and then you get a tap on the shoulder, a poke and a signal that you're you're dead and they wanted to see if they could make that sort of vibe for a game and they came up with clue. and. His Buddy, Jeffrey Bull, who invented a near hooked him up with the WADDINGTON's people that he knew who had published his game and they they liked clue and they wanted to publish it and those guys were in a deal with brothers because they had the the British rights to publish monopoly. They thought the game was so good that they pitched it themselves to Parker brothers. And Parker Brothers said No. Because Parker brothers had a rule that they would never publish a game that had to do with murder. Wow. Yeah. And one of the high upset Barker Brothers was like this game is too good. We have to we have to do it anyway and they were able to convince the. Parker brother dudes that. Maybe. We should give this a try and they changed changed a bunch of stuff in the rules to be less mercury not not so much sort of they switched the dagger to a knife. They don't say murder in the right in the rules and the original rules. It's the act. Oh Wow but they changed the name of the of the victim to Mr Body. Which is you know? Comedy Guess. Yeah. Come on Mr Body, they changed the tutor. It was originally called the Tudor close and they changed it to the Tudor Mansion because Americans don't. We don't call houses, the clothes I don't. Know and and a good one. Reverend Green got changed Mr Green because they were. The Religious Pride set about reverend being involved in murder. Back like our newer version of clue has as Reverend Green really that eventually got switched back. Whatever that's that's big deal they released the game. They were still against the idea of the game even as they published it. So they swore they wouldn't advertise it at all didn't advertise it as got published. Within like a few years, it became one of their bestselling games like. Well. It sold nineteen thousand copies or something in the first couple years. But slowly and slowly. It came out huge huge aware I. Think I highlighted something in this book where? Nine nineteen ninety six, total sales surpassed one, hundred, fifty, million. And unfortunately. Husband wife duo that created it barely got anything they kinda got screwed up. Screwed out of the whole thing WADDINGTON's convinced him to sell. The rights to the game to them for outside of Britain for five thousand pounds. which was by in the book, it says equivalent of about one hundred, ninety, thousand dollars right? which sounds awesome but. By By the time there. What do you call it? The right along game rates raining. Yeah they were making they were making money off the royalties and then they're they're copyright rainy like sixty, seven or something. And no one. Even you know that was that was the end they got no money. So conduct but that's yeah that's Bertel originally called Cluedo to. Name in North America clue. Clue yes. I mean I'm just I'm just trying isn't it quick as I can because it's an interesting one because I owned a copy of clue ever. And You know I always had some of the other big ones like monopoly being probably the biggest one in my house and. A friend of mine had clue..

They of courses interacting with listeners. Which you can do over on facebook and INSTAGRAM DOT com slash your brain on facts and twitter at Brennan Facts Pot. It makes my day when I get a message. One longtime mystery is why the British version of clue is called CLUEDO. Why would you ruin a perfectly descriptive word by turning it into a nonsense word? This isn't like pavement versus sidewalk. Lift verses elevator chip versus FRY. Both of which are equally good at describing their respective thing. Why would you change it to Cluedo? Well it turns out. Cluedo is the original name and it's justified. The classic whodunnit game was created in the early nineteen forties when a British musician and munitions factory worker. Anthony Pratt had some forced time on his hands who forced it looked FAFA. He and his wife. Elva began working on the game so that they could play while waiting out. The Air Rates. Pratt filed a patent on the game in nineteen forty four listing the weapons as the significantly more visceral acts cudgel small bomb rope. Dagger Revolver hypodermic needle poison and fireplace poker. The characters also different from what? We're familiar with Dr Black. Mr Brown mister gold. The Reverend Mr Green Miss Grey Professor Plum Miss Scarlet nurse White. Mrs Silver and Colonel. Yellow may have noticed. That was a lot to keep track of the original. Ten were whittled down to six. Colonel Yellow was changed to colonel mustard. So that one of Her Majesty's officers didn't sound like a coward Pratt. Sold Cluedo to game manufacturer WADDINGTON's though it wasn't released until nineteen forty eight due to material shortages from the war. The name Cluedo was a Portmanteau of clue and Ludo a nineteenth century game whose name was Latin for I play. When Parker brothers picked up the rights to the game in America in nineteen forty nine they shortened it to clue rightly. Suspecting that people wouldn't know about Ludo the game has gone on to spawn. World Championships abridged. Tv show a musical that invited audience. Participation played over five hundred shows and of course the classic movie initially though the movie wasn't a classic subtle in kids. I've got about a whole bonus paragraph here director Jonathan. Lynn thought it would be a keen idea to release three different versions to the theater. Each with one of the different endings but not to tell movie goers in advance which version they were buying a ticket for somewhere in his mind he thought people would just keep buying tickets and sitting through movies until they had seen all the index. The public didn't go for it and clue left theaters quickly. It found its way to home video when it was still a nascent market. The movie didn't do too well there either which resulted in copies being marked down for clearance that was a couple of years in and VCR's had become more popular than so more people have VCR's. This movie is cheap. Everyone bought it. Everyone watched it. Everyone loves it. You tell me you don't well. Just don't tell me in two thousand eight the. Us version got a makeover. The murder now takes place at a celebrity party Colonel Mustard morphed into a football player. Professor Plum has become a DOT COM billionaire. Some of the weapons have been swapped out and Mrs White originally a murderous housekeeper was replaced with Dr Orchid which is the first time since the game launched. That character has gotten the boot in the late nineties. After selling a hundred million clue games WADDINGTON tracked down Pratt. He'd fallen off the map after his on the game expired in the nineteen sixties which meant no more royalties. He also never got released for the international versions of the game. Having signed away. Those rights nineteen fifty three for five thousand pounds about one hundred and thirty five thousand dollars today. He didn't know that it was selling like hotcakes. Across the pond but Pratt didn't mind a great deal of fun went into it. He said in a nineteen ninety interview so why grumble the WADDINGTON company? Also did their bit to keep up the British end in World War Two. Did they repurpose machinery or supplies? The way companies hinted to help with the Cova nineteen crisis like distilleries making hand sanitizer. No they contributed games but not just to keep up the morale during the war a fair few RAF Jockey's second dicky's to the flaming onion to the kite and praying sausage side. Germany allowed humanitarian aid groups like the Red Cross to distribute care packages to the prisoners. One category of permissible item was games and pastimes so the allies took strategic advantage of the opportunity. Using made up charities. They sent care packages to their. Pow's that make most prison escape. Plans look like a file victim of cake. That's shaped like a file. The games they sent over were secret escape kits complete with compasses metal files money and most importantly maps wait. You say surely the would look at the care packages before giving them to prisoners. They could look all they wanted. The Games looked perfectly normal inside game of monopoly were compasses and files disguised as game pieces. French German Italian banknotes were hidden underneath the monopoly play money. The board concealed secret maps. That would lead them into freedom. Alerting them to hazards and safe houses. Along the way the game cartons were marked with secret codes that represented each German prison camp. So that Emma I nine. The British Secret Service Unit specializing in evasion and escape would know which particular set was to go to which prison camp based on their reconnaissance of the camp and the needs of an escaping prisoner. But why monopoly? The game hadn't been on England's pleasant pastures for even a decade. It was still thoroughly American. Except maybe for the Scottie Dog. I guess the game wasn't the first consideration. The manufacturer was Waddington's was the only company to have perfected printing on silk. This detail would be critical. The material of the maps needed to be more resilient than paper not prone to tearing or subject to dissolving when wet but thin enough to be shoved in boot pocket cigarette pack etc at a second notice. Silk maps also. Don't make noise which is handy when you're trying to slip away into the night. Waddington's could print the cell and as it happened was the U K licensee for monopoly before going out on missions. Royal Airforce Airmen. Were told that if they were captured should look for monopoly games in their care packages. You would know if you had the escape Kit Version. If there was a small red dot on the free parking space which looked like nothing more than a tiny print error few copies of this lifesaving game exist today and for good reason. Soldiers were instructed to destroy the Games after that gotten all of the useful components out so the guards couldn't figure out how they'd escape which would endanger men at every other camp. The games were sent to monopoly. Games weren't the only vehicles used to conceal escape maps decks of cards snakes and ladders even pencils could conceal maps. British historians estimate that these special edition. Monopoly boards helped thousands of captured soldiers escaped from camps. A real get out of jail free card and that's where we run out of ideas at least for today believe it or not even in this highly technological age. The Celia uses specially designed board and CARD GAMES TO TRAIN. Its officers unlike other exercises that focus on the individual more games like these depend on teamwork. He's is the inventor of on for is that. Is that a husband or or not really in my mind he at least gets credit for the invention. Pal melo outta the lisbon portugal and <hes>. Do you think clear choices. I'm getting bigger and bigger. I mean how how do you think that businesses working out from what i can tell from friends that are associated with clear choice doing actually quite well so oh yes because they do market so much like you said it helps everybody because they do market but i think clear choices actually doing quite well yeah and and we're seeing clear choice copies popping up all over the place to yeah and they're doing quite well because what's the the reverse of that. The dentists aren't doing well on the average new car. Price in america is thirty three thousand five hundred sixty dollars according to two different sources kelley blue book and u._s._a. Today and on average the average american owned by thirteen new cars by age seventy six years old source anthony pratt poke director of forecasting thing yet ninety five percents dennis will never sell one case.

"Dollars car. And meanwhile, she's gotta ask for the patient to give it thirty five thousand dollars. The patient says, you know what? I'm not really. Sure, but I'd like to start on the right hand side, that he says. No, it's all or nothing if you're the dentist, you'd be more than happy to start on the right side. And so you have no way of doing that. So a whole bunch of treatment does not get accepted, because it gets handed off to somebody that hasn't been trained, and then it is up to revenue well in our case to go after it. So we have two different modules to be able to go out after that business. One of them is an actual treatment plan. Follow up module where you can set up a cadence, and you can say, anything you want, and that includes procedures teeth numbers and codes and it includes patient education videos from Casey to be able to continue what's going on in the practice. So I've never been to your practice, but Kathy bro. Delle says alot Kathy I love her is she in South Dakota. St. is so she's a great friend of mine, then we have very similar philosophy on how things work. And so if a patient says knows treatment a dental office rarely would make a phone call. And if they will, it's only on top cases, and when they make a phone call to have really nothing to show, and when they have nothing to show its visual people how you're gonna get your case done. So I've never been to your practice, but I'm sure you have a monitor in front of your patience. Right. Right. Where you might show digital x Ray intro Cameron design that for my office. She's a very smart lady. She's a, she's a genius. And she did that for me twenty years ago. But I would interject one thing when you said, presented thirty five thousand hundred plans, half my home you just lost the night. What is he talking about? He's in rich Miami. I'm in porcelain, Kansas. Hey, according to Kelley blue book value USA today, and Anthony, Pratt of the director of forecasting, the average. American will buy thirteen new cars before their seventy six years old with the mean median average price at thirty three thousand five hundred sixty so everyone. And so then I go look at my homeys and ninety five percent on practice or whole career without even doing one of these thirty three thousand dollars cases because they nobody has the money but all their patients will buy thirteen cars, and then buy aid seventy four twenty percent of Americans don't even have a single tooth, and it's the dentist are thinking with their brakes on, and they even the first to tell you man, I ate sales. I hate presenting treatment. I didn't go to school eight years to sell something is Alex salesman. Alex is salesman. Absolutely at Alex is sales that has the most successful customers and Alex knows that in order to be successful. You have to ask for it. And if you don't ask for it, you will never get it. And if you prequalify your customer, that is the number one mistake you'll ever make in the. The whole entire world. Because when I go out looking for a car, I will I by th WalMart, and I will buy myself a champion twenty two dollar sweatsuit and seven dollars. Nico is and I will walk in and I will walk out with the thirty five thousand dollar car. Maybe not a thirty five thousand but I will walk out with the three hundred dollar payment and thirty five thousand.

"Anthony, Pratt poke Drucker a forecasting, and so when you look at the two hundred eleven thousand Americans have active license to practice dentistry today. Ninety five percent of them will never do one case that their patient base will spend on a new car. So so why wait a dentist even if he's in rural America, and he says, these farmers don't have any money and then. You go to the grocery store, and everybody's driving a forty thousand dollar f one fifty or sixty thousand dollar f to fifty I remember I was in Texas my daughter loss. Aw, an F three fifty truck for ninety thousand dollars in when she saw hall home is gone. That's the most beautiful. So why is it and be Ville, Texas that people spend forty sixty or one hundred thousand dollars on a Ford truck, and then that the dentist that treats them thinks that they'll never spend that on on their mouth. Mindset thing 'cause you go into any of these parts of the country. And I mean, unless you know, unless everyone living under a bridge, which is not the case, you're gonna find people spinning as much on their truck or more as you've already pointed out than they spend on their teeth. And most of that is then it's just not telling them what the options are. And of course, not advertising public about most of these services. So it's usually minds that problem is not it's not a problem with the customer. You know? So there's those people are buying those crazy trucks beverage destructive all kinds of class just as much as a mouthful dentistry. And I certainly wouldn't want to go to a doctor that didn't give me all my options. I mean, I saw this Dylan HBO where Cuba is the lead country on lung cancer and patience on the United States is running about a five percent five years of operating Huber's at a twenty five percent. And the doctors, you know, very few. Doctors name, by the way, have you would you think about just flying to Havana? I mean, I would leave the US healthcare system in a minute. If I thought I'd find times greater success rating, Cuba and clear toys, given there's two types of dentists that always live in fear and scarcity in the skies falling and then those that think hope growth in abundance, and I remember when clear choice, Phoenix, Arizona half the special like, oh, my not, you know, they're gonna they're gonna steal all business in the other half is like my God. They're on TV all day every day. Now, I'm having my routine. Patients say to me have you seen those commercials. Can you do that? And it's like my gosh, I was looking at Clare choice like a rising tide lifts all boats, and any of my homies that wanna come into the Phoenix market and do a million dollars a year and television advertising is my new best friend. Exactly, you know, you just add this debate. You know, we'd always hammer on the ADA. Let's have a national advertising plan for dentistry while blah, blah. Well, these guys have done far better job and implant awareness, anything we've done this profession. So in these markets where you have them advertising. This everybody does more cases, you know, it's beautiful. If you've got them in your market, you need to be running after the case was too because they're generating business where everybody really are. It was me goring Christian rich Matto of the matter report, and oh my gosh. Woody oakes. The problem is all went to the American dental sociation. We all met down there with the president other people tell them about this need for national advertising campaign. And you know, what they didn't. They said, okay. So they put together a committee. They put together a budget the Perry. Honest, three years later could not agree on the on the script of a sixty seven. Marshall and the eight people they don't want the executive actor doesn't wanna call out their homeys. But they're like these these guys could never agree on what a commercials should say. We're as free enterprise how long it takes clergy's to go from writing scripting, filming a commercial. A.
