MTG: Why Last Friday's Deal Is a Win for Conservatives
"Congresswoman Greene, welcome to the program. So I want to ask you, you know, we've been receiving a lot of emails over the last over the weekend about this deal that was negotiated and the deal that was struck, I believe it's a good deal. I believe that our friends that were the holdouts, they pushed it to the limit, and then they realized that the moderates were getting ready to strike back and they still might strike back on the rules vote. Congresswoman tell us about this deal and tell us about how we are on pace to have the most conservative Congress of our lifetime. Well, you know, I've been up front all along. I always love a good fight in our conference. And I'm never afraid of one, but I always wanted to be for the right thing. So I am thankful to my friends and colleagues because there's a few things I like in the package. But to be honest with you, they were pretty much already there before last week before people saw what happened on the House floor. But for the American people to see it happen, I think that was helpful. It brought the dialog and the conversations and the agreements that we had made weeks and months before inside our conference meetings and it brought it out for the public view. So I think that was very helpful. And I'm very glad that happened. I'm excited that we're going to have 12 separate appropriation bills. I think that's a huge win. But that was, again, that was already there before the big fight happened. Now, the only change that truly happened with them holding out after 15 rounds was the motion to vacate, went from 5 members down to one member, but today we have Anthony Gonzalez from Texas saying that is a no go for him in the rules package. And that has him currently against the rules package tonight.

"At that point, had already won a Super Bowl hidden won three MVPs, paid men and got in his car twice a week, drove from Indianapolis to Columbus, Ohio, took the playbook with him, went over the playbook for an hour with Anthony Gonzalez through routes at their facility for an hour and drove back 8 hours a day on his own. We never asked him to do that. Twice a week on his own to help Anthony Gonzalez get ready. So when Aaron Rodgers says, oh, we've got these young receivers and now I'm ready, but oh, by the way, I wasn't there in the summer. I don't buy that. The NBA came out with awards and they named him after players, the MVP award is Michael Jordan. Even though Kareem has one more MVP than Mike does. But I was wondering if we did this with the NFL, how do you think Peyton would take this if I said the regular season MVP is the Peyton Manning award, the Super Bowl MVP is the Tom Brady award. I think that would make sense. You look at how many MVPs Peyton has won. You look at how many MVPs of super bowls, Brady is one. I think that would make sense. I do think we have a recency bias when we talk that way. You might want to go back to the autogram award or the Jim Brown award or the Sami ball award. We don't realize how great some of those guys were, but I could see what you're saying. I could go with that. Yeah, but I love that we don't forget those who played before because there is the recency bias. People don't remember Johnny Unitas and what he meant to that position. He was the first modern day quarterback with what he did, the two minute drill. I mean, and we forget. Paid and modeled his game after united and he was a throwback to that era. I can remember my day. The first game I ever went to in Detroit, my dad took me to a lion's brown's pre season game because he wanted me to see Jim Brown. And it just, that was my dad's era, and he wanted me to know that was a great one. Well, I try to tell people about Jim Brown. I still don't know how to describe what he did, how he did it when he did it, and that he got so bored that he went into acting. He just said, is there any other challenges here? Nope. I'm going to be an actor here. After 9 seasons. My coach chuck Knoll was a man of few words, but I rarely saw him speechless. He blocked for Jim Brown when I asked him about Jim Brown, he just, he couldn't even describe it. He said he was so far ahead of his time and so skilled and so good. He didn't want to downplay his own role, but he said he really didn't need blockers. I didn't know chuck Noel block for Jim Brown. He was the alternating garb messenger guard for Paul Brown. Yes. What are the cowboys getting with TY Hilton? I think they're getting a guy who can be explosive and can make some plays. They've got a great receiving core. CD lamb is going to get all the attention and they've got gallop and they've got tight end. So now when you bring TY Hilton in as the third receiver, maybe the fourth receiver in a four wide receiver said, well, he's going to get single cover.

"I'm Johnny. How are you doing? I'm doing okay. I mean, I hadn't heard her audio yet. I didn't get a chance to watch it yesterday. So that was just, it's more heart wrenching just to listen to her speak. Yeah. And you know, we're stuck, you know, the House voted on some measures that were important. But you know, it's not going to go anywhere in the Senate. We know that it's not going to go anywhere in the Senate, which is a pathetic statement about our country. It's just freaking intolerable. I mean, of all the things that we end up talking about for the United States of America not to take care of our children and the other innocence. I mean, the buffalo massacre in a supermarket chosen because it was in a black neighborhood by a complete right-wing maniac and then the next week we get this school shooting and volley Texas, I don't know what the hell is wrong with us, but I'm not really, I hate to be even though I'm doctor doom. I hate to be totally pessimistic, but you wonder what, if anything, it's going to make us wake up and understand that you can't have assault rifles. Yeah, we need all the other background checks. But the fact that we have military rifles, which can decapitate a child, blow its head off. In circulation is beyond the pale. I don't get it, Jodi. Do you? I don't. And Jim Jordan was a chicken and didn't even stay for that testimony. Yesterday. He left the room. And it's like really dude. You can't even handle what you need to be handling. That's your job. I find that abhorrent. Though there were 5 Republicans, good for them, that did vote for the law. For the Bill, Brian Fitzpatrick, Anthony Gonzalez, Chris Jacobs Adam kinzinger, and Fred Upton all voted for the package, whereas Kurt Schrader, who is no longer going to be in Congress because he was primaried out. And Jared golden, who were Democrats, voted it down for some strange reason. So good for those 5 Republicans. It's just you're right about, I mean, did you see the great grandfather going to the memorial set up outside of rob elementary the other day?.

"Issues and financial hardship solutions that are fully paid for To try to justify their novo they are spreading lies about this bill They say the bill will cost long-term inflation Wrong That is a falsehood They say we'll add to the deficit wrong That is a falsehood Anything to delay solutions and distract the public from their government spending hypocrisy Secretary Yellen what are the real causes of inflation And how will policies that stop the spread of COVID-19 and support labor participation help to fight it Well to my mind the real causes of inflation reflect the impact the pandemic has had on the economy the programs that have supported income have kept demand at a solid pace and enabled our economy to grow the fastest of any economy to bring down unemployment toward more normal levels but because of the pandemic demand shifted massively away from services and toward goods that huge demand for goods is resulted in massive supply chain bottlenecks that are crippled or ports in transportation system and caused a shortage of semiconductors that have led to huge increases in the price of new and used vehicles and because of the pandemic substantial number of workers who have not returned to the labor force I believe because they are concerned about the health consequences of working in face to face type jobs and probably also because of child care concerns Secretary Yellen in the remaining time I have I do want to give you the floor to talk about the revenue raising provisions that will pay for the build bank federal investments How will they both make wealthy corporations I yield the general terms expired The gentleman from Ohio mister Gonzales is now recognized for 5 minutes Thank you madam Cher and thanks This is Republican Anthony Gonzalez of coverage of the House financial services committee on Bloomberg radio Secretary I don't want to start with you earlier You said I think you said it in different ways a few times When supply and demand get out of balance you can have inflation And the demand side has accelerated while we still have supply chain bottlenecks fair The demand has been strong demand is also shifted away from services in toward goods which is created huge problems more than the aggregate level of demand Yes ma'am And the American rescue plan which was a partisan bill That juiced supply or I'm sorry that increased demand which you testified to Did it do anything to alleviate supply issues It didn't have substantial impacts on supply So when we say that and this is my frustration for a year year plus we negotiated in good faith bipartisan legislation to be targeted and appropriate with respect with respect to our response to COVID-19 You all won the election to your prerogative to ignore Republican concerns But you went forward with American rescue plan which we warned would increase inflation specifically for the reasons the secretary just said it would increase demand and do nothing to alleviate supply chain bottlenecks That's exactly what happened You're set to repeat the exact same mistake with build back better Chairman Powell I want to commend you for retiring the term transitory as it relates to inflation My constituents have been complaining about it for over a year Two concerns One inflation is particularly hard on low and middle income Americans in particular those with fixed incomes We all know that It's been brutal for them Two and I think this is the new risk Risk accumulates over time the longer rates are at zero As anyone who invests money and discounts cash flows at a zero interest rate can justify virtually any investment As we've seen that in various asset bubbles have built up over time So now I think the risk shifts now I believe the risk is that we have led inflation around too hot for too long and we're in need of a more sudden course correction which you suggested yesterday That being the case what are you most concerned with when considering the ramifications of the taper on the market and the economy at large What pockets of risk are you looking at as the taper beans Let me just say I think that the taper need not be a disruptive event in markets I don't expect that it will be It hasn't been so far We've telegraphed it I mean I think if you look at the state of the economy look at where we are Look at the most recent run of data You can see that the highly accommodative policy that we have even after the tapir is done there's really it's really appropriate that we taper And as I mentioned yesterday I agree with you It's appropriately that we consider at the next meeting tapering faster so that so that it wraps up a few months earlier I agree I guess I would encourage you and my concern again as we've seen asset bubbles accumulate over the course of the pandemic investors have done incredibly well I think we should be tapering I agree with van in a lot of ways on the monetary front But I suspect that there's risk building up and I just want to make sure that it's on the fed's radar I want to shift to the minute and 26 seconds to see if we get this out So in recent months Americans have unfortunately seen energy prices significantly increased especially at the pump Some people who talk on Twitter have claimed that this is due to greedy corporations and speculators driving up prices Do you believe that's the reason for increased gas prices So energy is a global market and there are many many factors at work there I would say it's a combination of very strong demand across.

"Republican representative anthony gonzalez from cleveland announced. That he will not be running for re election in twenty twenty two as i mentioned at the top. He's one of ten republicans in the house. Who voted to impeach president trump. After the january six attack on the capital he'd spoken out repeatedly against anti-democratic tendencies within the republican party. He said in a virtual forum in may quote. I think continuing to perpetuate falsehoods especially ones. That are dangerous. That led to the violence on january. Six is a recipe for disaster for the party. But it's also horribly irresponsible. He is the first of the ten republicans who voted for impeachment to retire. So let's talk about his experience in particular and then the broader dynamics of the party so first off. Why is gonzales retiring. Would it have been impossible for him to win in a republican primary. Why not make his case and see if voters within the party are willing to accept it. You think that there is a chance. Gonzalves could've won renomination but at the same time he had a challenging race ahead of for one thing. His congressional district was probably going to change a fair bit. Ohio is losing a district. And since i don't think it's also exactly one over a lot of republicans with his impeachment. Vote it's possible that he might have born the brunt in the redraw we don't really know what the district you're gonna look like yet but nonetheless he he couldn't count his district not being substantially changed. He also had in. Mac miller a significant opponent in that miller was a former trump aide had been endorsed by trump was fundraising a fair amount of money to take on dollars so there are some clear electoral pressures on gonzalez and it also sounds like from interview that there were a lot of not electoral but life pressures getting threats yet security with them all the time. He was worried about his family. And given the state of the republican party and support for trump and anger toward republicans who are rhinos. republicans in name only according to critics of them. It's i guess not a shock that someone would want to necessarily go through that. And i think it's particularly telling coming from a guy who just turned thirty seven years old and is only the second term in the house and probably one time would have been seen as a rising star in the party but now is exiting stage right instead. Yeah i mean. Jeffrey has a piece on this coming out later this week. But you know. I think it's really telling not just gonzales within the nine other house. Republicans that voted for impeachment after the january six attack at the capitol is kind of this larger question it poses for the future of the gop. What will it mean for these ten republicans who voted against trump essentially for their electoral future. If they either retire or not reelected one point. Jeffrey made in article using something from former five. Thirty eight or laura bronner now. Contributor was her metric that looked at which senators and representatives in congress. Vote most often in favor of democracy. In when she had found was that of these ten republicans they had some of the highest ratings on pro democracy electoral measures within congress in particular. Someone like kansallis. But then also liz cheney Shirt will talk about john. Capco and adam. Kim zinger in so those voices aren't still within the gop. We have a possibility that the gop is going to continue to shift further to the right. That's something to rake. Also written for the site looking at republicans who either retired or lost since twenty sixteen showing that while it hasn't been a huge shift to the right. It's still has been a steady progression where those getting elected to. Congress are more conservative. And our for trumpy and i think that's kind of the big question with these republicans moving forward..

"Part of that was Contrast. You know, the main prosecutor against Clinton was Kenneth Starr and he, you know, a TV presence. He he just He bothered America quite a bit. So you know Clinton won that comparing? Yes, I would say, you know, going back in time. Obviously, when Nixon resigned, you know the impeachment process just halted in its tracks. And then, of course. Gerald Ford issued a blanket pardon for Nixon so that you know that kind of pushed him off. You know, off the stage, but here's Here's the only counterpoint. I think a good argument could be made. Ah, lot of this is not really about Trump. You know, it's about the election. It's about saying we're gonna have elections and we're gonna respect elections and And that's where I think you might be right in that This helps Trump Trump. But, you know, the folks in the house may not really care about that. They may ultimately you know the bottom line today. We've got. We've got to stand up and say elections, elections for real things, and we count the votes and then and then we respect them. Win or lose. So I do think a savvy trump response here, you know, could lead him to an energized base and and it continued prominence for the next few years, But I don't think that's Really? That's the top priority of the Democrats who voted to impeach and, of course, the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach You know they're not worried about that. You know, I think they have a bigger, bigger picture idea here. Maybe I think they're I certainly understand what you're saying. But I think a lot of it is just, you know, they got their own base to play too. Right? What's there and they want Trump's head on a platter all the time. Let me ask you this. So here's a little bit representative Anthony Gonzalez, who's a rep just a little bit north of us here around Columbus. I played football in with the Colts for year. Great Do. He was one of the 10 who voted to impeach tried one of the 10 GOP members. I think this is Ah, big mistake on both ways, especially politically. I don't he his district Trump won by 15 points. Okay, so I think the play is it comes up for impeachment because he wants to make a run it Sherry Brown, which works out well in a general election, maybe But a in a prayer. There's gonna be primary focus lining up all the I mean all over the place, in my opinion, because they know the is much of people hate Trump. He's got a big base and the deplorables they're not going to come out for Anthony Gonzalez, especially in a primary. Do you agree or disagree? I think it's a risky move. I I agree with your basic analysis there. I think you know he's looking at the big picture that there's going to be a split that there's gonna be a moment where You know, Trump is not going to be able to hold the party and that the people who got on the front side of this they're gonna be advantage. So you know, I agree with you, the energy and the party is clearly pro Trump and You know, it's it's a real risk to take this position. I think he's imagining as you as you expand this out a few years that You know, the Trump will be out of the scene, and that's you know, that's a guess he's taken. The Trump will be off the scene and that, you know, being on the front side of this will be. You know, his claim that you know he can. He can offer himself as a new Republican, You know, new generation. And, you know, really try and rebuild things in that way, and I think you know here's why it's an opportunity for him. Nobody else did it. So you know it. Almost. It's almost the more valuable move on his his part because Nobody else is going along with him within the state so he could you know he could take that, you know, have kind of his personal mantle. And I think the one really interesting thing about the 10 who voted for impeachment is they don't actually have very much in common. You know, they're spread out all across the country. Some of them are in really, really strong Republican district. Some of them are in really, really, you know, dicey. Could go either way district. You know, I think they what they have in common is, you know they think you know that they had to condemn. You know the mob action and Trump's role in it. And that they think the Republican Party is going to be remade. You know, in somebody else's image that it's not really Trump's party. All right with that, David, we will let you go. Always a pleasure. My pleasure, boys. Good stuff, David. Thank you. David Nevin. Polly Sigh You see, like going on, man, we're gonna see a lot have that's the reason I ask about the 1st 100 days of Biden because there is gonna be a lot happening here in the next 2346 months. I just feel like he would want to like And he's the president. And no one's No one's talking about it, right? No one's even talking. Okay, what's gonna happen this and that? "TV. ANTONYA J. Powers from Fox News is seconds away. On something that has been unprecedented incident ID in our lifetime, And that was a letter that was sent out to the U. S military. We're going to get to that just a second regarding last week. So capital rights. Meanwhile, 10 Republicans in the U. S House voting to impeach the president that included Over wide receiver of the Buckeyes, Ohio Congressman Anthony Gonzalez releasing a statement overnight President Trump did not address any of the impeachment yesterday in a speech and will continue to dissect that and it looks like there's a possibility that those $2000 stimulus checks will be coming. Biden likely to unveil that plan later on today. What welcome Anton You J powers from Fox News this morning. Tanya. Good morning. Let's dive right into this because just a few days after the Capitol riots, the country's top military leaders took something that we haven't seen before, at least in our lifetime, and they took the step to call out last week's riots. They did. This is very, you know, it's like I said, it's on president and I feel that we use that word. Although I know yeah, but it doesn't mean it's not right. That is the right word to use. This was signed by all eight members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Um, it condemns the storming of the U. S. Capitol, they said they called it a direct assault on the Congress, the Capitol building and the Constitution. Um, it was noteworthy because the joint chiefs are generally you know, they're very a political. This is not something they get involved in which you know any kind of, you know anything that could even look like politics. That's that's something they generally stay away from. It also included a reminder to the service members that President elect Joe Biden will be their next commander in chief and warns them don't participate in anything to impede his inauguration. Of course, this is after news has surfaced that several military veterans were at the Capitol seizure. Um you know one of their attorneys, five people dead. One of those was a Capitol police officer. And he had previously served in the Air National Guard Tom DJ Powers from Fox News with us this morning, and he was ready of 16 W TV. Antonio I'm glad you brought that up because I've read different articles and I actually have friends. Who served in the military and very much deeply believe in some of these conspiracy, some really, really dark. So now is the investigation continues to unfold about the riots. Is this something that pushed our military leaders to feel like we have to send this letter out to these two are members. It looks like it looks like it did. I mean, there's been a least two veterans that have been arrested, you know, for their involvement in the capital riot. I mean, you had the Air Force veteran. Actually, Babbitt, who was Um, Trump supporter of Who was there? It was shot and killed by Capitol police there. Inside the Capitol. You've probably seen the video of the group She was with trying to break down the door and her trying to enter. Yeah, And that's when the officer fired a shot. There was also the arrest of a retired Air force reserve Lieutenant Colonel Larry Brock. Uh, brandishing zip ties during the tie handcuffs during the whole thing. There was pictures of him. There was a zip ties and he's in like the fool, you know, kind of technical best military kind of it looking outfit. Yeah, he was looking to play. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, there was another one. And maybe veterans who was the guy with the horns and the first Oh, yeah, he was arrested. Um, Is he going to wear that outfit in court? Do we know? I don't know. I mean, there was, you know, just winner so I'm not really sure. I'm sorry e point of who's gonna wear whatever these are Just two of the examples of you know the fact that there were some of these there is in the military veterans, um, involved. Yeah, they're the investigations are ongoing. Obviously in the FBI's compiling a giant amount of information on who was involved pictures. They're matching up with names and things like that. But we've also seen, you know. People from police forces on because it was a couple of minutes from Virginia, who were also making headlines for their involvement. Um No, there's no one at least some firefighters that we've seen that matched up with some of the pictures. You know, there's there's There's a whole lot of questions here. Like you said All right time. DJ Powers Fox News. Thanks for joining us this morning. Have a great rest of the week. Thank you. All right. It's 6 42 Radio 6 10. Tell the new TV end Sports. All right. Seeing, you know, Ohio State basketball player with no fans and college football with no fans and everything, but I'm used to it, but I'm not used to it. I really that atmosphere in nationwide arenas just special and it's one of the great fun environments and fun things to do. And Yeah, it's just gonna be. It's just give me a weird year. For example, last night, Tampa Bay, you know, won the Stanley Cup final and they had their big banner ceremony and everything and no one's there on. In fact, they didn't actually they unveiled their championship banner down in Tampa, but they didn't raise it. They're gonna wait for fans to get themselves not the same. And I know the Blue Jackets are asking the state now to allow fancy nationwide apparatus, so hopefully we'll hear something about that soon. Yeah, the NHL right now No one's. They're starting the year without fans and hopefully sooner rather than later. They had them because that would be a lot of fun.
