Edwards' lawyer: Assault charges baseless; chair was in way

"The attorney for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said his client will vigorously defend himself against misdemeanor third degree assault charges for allegedly swinging a folding chair in entering two Denver arena employees after the series ending loss to the nuggets. Harvey Steinberg, the attorney for Edwards issued a statement Thursday through the Timberwolves that criticized the Denver police department's decision to inexplicably charge Edwards after game 5. Steinberg says Anthony's exit from the court was partially obstructed by a chair, adding that video of the incident confirms that Edwards did not swing the chair at any one. I'm guessing cool ball.

"AP sports I'm David Schuster to NFL playoff games contested Saturday in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes played through an ankle injury throwing a pair of touchdown passes as the chiefs down Jacksonville 27 20, Kansas City coach Andy Reid crediting his defense. I thought from the DBs to the defensive line to the linebackers, I just, again, my head goes off to the guys for that. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, the eagles overwhelmed the Giants 38 to 7 with our Michael luongo in attendance. The eagle jumped to a 14 nothing for his quarterly on touchdown passes by a jail and hurts won the Dallas Goddard. The other devonta Smith first picked up a 5 yard touchdown run with 43 seconds to go in the first half, Boston Scott had a three yard touchdown one, maybe for the second quarter for the birds who were advanced to the NSA championship game for the first time since 2017. Coming up later Sunday, it will be Cincinnati at buffalo and Dallas at San Francisco. Lots of NBA action Saturday, Boston made it 9 straight wins, one O 6 one O four over Toronto, grant Williams scoring 25 points off the bench. As a role player in this league, you have to be prepared for any of those opportunities and you have to step up when the opportunity arises. And I feel like I try my best to do that and tonight shops went down and just continue to be aggressive. Evan mobley was aggressive scoring a career high 38 points as Cleveland defeated Milwaukee one 14 one O two, mobley's coach JB bickerstaff certainly impressed. You know, it's not just a particular quarter, but it's when winning matters the most. And I think he's got that gene when winning Mars is the most to rise to another level. And Minnesota coach Chris Finch had a bird's eye view, watching Anthony Edwards score 44 points as the T wolves defeated Houston one 13 one O four. Yeah, I mean, he was locked in all day. "One more thing on the NBA behaving badly beat here because we've had an owner and a coach and now a player Anthony Edwards Minnesota Timberwolves star was fined $40,000 this week. He made an anti gay comments, Chris about a group of people standing on a street and then posted it on Instagram, then he deleted the video. It was intolerant. It was indefensible. It was dumb. It was gross. There's nothing good here. Issued a statement I'll read it, quote what I said was immature hurtful and disrespectful and I'm incredibly sorry. It's unacceptable for me. To anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there's no excuse for it at all. I was raised better than that. Okay. I guess, but you shouldn't have done it. And I'm gonna guess if you're willing to be that casual about it and then post it, probably not the first time you've used that kind of language. I question whether 40 K is like a good enough penalty, there's no suspension here. I don't know. Not a great look for Anthony Edwards or the NBA yet again. No, it wasn't. And you know, the league, it's funny. Howard Beck wrote a story about finding players for language that the league feels as unbecoming. What have you, this was a different sort of slur. This was a slur. And the way he was talking about a group of people, which is really, really unfortunate. Yes, he's young. He's 21, that's not really an excuse, a valid excuse here. And again, I think what you pointed out is accurate. The idea that not just was he saying it, but that he felt it funny enough to post was a little bit sad too. And so I don't know, I think the league, I think they've got escalators as far as like first time offenses as far as what you say and how to deal with it. The best I can hope for someone like Anthony Edwards and granted this was a little bit different. This was a longer time ago when attitudes in this country were a little bit different toward it, but I'll lean on him just because he was inducted in the Hall of Fame recently. "To your point about whether or not the Celtics should signal will be back, I'm just reading the tea leaves here. It feels like they're in terms of litigation and taking certain steps and lining everything up. It feels like, especially in their statement that they're sort of lining it up to go the other way. Because the team's decision and announcement came after this is all according to after a closed door meeting Thursday that involved team owners and president Brad Stevens and lasted several hours and then earlier the same day Stevens in the front office met with players at the team facility. And the line that really jumped out at me in the Celtic statement was, quote, a decision about his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date. It feels like they're setting this up as suspension first. Soft push later. I mean, again, just reading between the tea leaves. It doesn't feel like they're setting him up to come back. That might be the case. And you know, from that standpoint, I'm not going to reference them too many more times, but again, I think that was the one point that Stephen a Smith made that might have been fair is that if you're going to let him go, then let him go. It serves as a distraction. It gives players the potentially false hope that he's going to come back. And it also leaves email DOCA in a spot which granted, I don't know that he deserves sympathy here, but I do think that there's something to be said for the fact that this could be fireable here, but that I don't think you want to torpedo the guy's career, if it's a violation of the Celtics rules, or if it was something that started as maybe not the rosiest sort of picture where it was a consensual relationship where people are maybe not being faithful to folks there with, but that's not against the law. It's not necessarily against the bylines for that to happen of an organization. If it started to step outside of those rules or if he started to make unwelcome comments, that's different. But I don't know, like I've struggled with that. And I think is actually said that a couple of times too, there have been people in our own mag that I've asked about, some of the details with this where we kind of all have different levels of sourcing, where I'm like, is this something where he's going to be blacklisted and like out of the leak forever and everybody keeps I keep talking to says no to that question. So if that's the case, you don't want to dismember him to where he can't work anymore. And it is strange for that simple. I will say this and I will reference him one more time here.

"If there's something going on with the power dynamic there, it's not okay for all sorts of reasons. Even if it starts consensually, at some point, it might not be at some point, the person might want to get promoted and then if they do get promoted, it will be a question of whether that happened because email DOCA is and the lead seat. So he is going to get punished for this differently than the woman would who you could make the argument should not be or will not be punished at all. And that's essentially what the Celtics said. It's different from that standpoint. In the same way that, you know, as much as I didn't love it, the same way that a week ago, Adam silver said that it's kind of different for Robert sarver being the owner of a team where it's kind of hard for the team to hold him accountable for it when he owns the team. And you know, although Adam silver would not say it out loud and I thought his statement when announced he was going to sell spoke volumes when it was a two sentence statement from Adam silver because while he kind of has the right to force a sale, it would be litigated until the end of time. And so he really wasn't going to be the one to force him to step aside. Now thank goodness that LeBron and draymond and Chris Paul spoke up and that sponsors spoke up, but power dynamics are such that sometimes the way you want to see things litigated, it doesn't really or adjudicated is not really going to be the way you want to see it. And I think we're finding that as much credit as a lot of us have wanted to give the NBA and patting them on the back for how forcefully they deal with racism and sexism. We've now seen several instances where they're just not going to handle it the way we would like to see it from a moral standpoint. And this one, the power dynamics are off. And I think email DOCA the frustration I would have if I'm a Celtics fan or a fan of you may you don't is the idea that don't leave them twisting in the wind. Let us know that he'll be back after this year. Maybe let us a little bit more inside the tent with maybe some detail. Did he sexually harass the woman or not? But beyond that, you know, I think that this is probably the way they should handle it. And then at that point it's up to email you don't go whether he wants to wait that out or whether he wants to go on with his career and try to go somewhere else and essentially announce himself as a free agent, which would be difficult to do, by the way. When you're just got done being investigated for something that we don't necessarily know the ins and outs of. Paralegals

"I've said this before to Michael, maybe it was Rohan, but I really do think there's something that needs to be considered going forward in the NBA. Teams are going to be weird about some of this stuff because how accountable can you hold someone for something that they did before they were in a certain position? I think that that was a relevant question with someone like Chauncey billups. It was a valid question for someone like Jason Kidd and now you have the person stepping in to replace someone that we don't even know. It could be, it could start to bleed into sexual harassment, even something that started consensually, but you're replacing that person with someone that has domestic violence in their history while you're also up there almost tearing up Brad Stevens about the idea of how difficult this has been to put the women in your organization through this. It is really, really complicated and really messy. It's really unfortunate. And I don't even necessarily know that when you look at that part of it that is being handled perfectly. I know the Celtics denied the leaks, which I think they have to do. I really hope that they didn't leak it. But who else would have had this information to have leaked out this stuff to the media a couple of days ago before the Celtics went public with their statements. So it is one of the messiest stories I can remember and particularly coming at a time where the league is already kind of had a little bit of a black eye with the way they handled this harbor thing. Yeah, it is, I think Messi is the right way to describe it and you mentioned assistant Joe Missoula who will be the interim coach he's 34 and we'll get into him and the basketball component of it, which is obviously less important than everything else that is happening here, but you mentioned sort of Stephen a and other people and how they responded to it in the immediate aftermath without knowing a lot about this, Steven a went on ESPN and wondered aloud why it's out there now. He said plenty of white folks doing their thing and he doesn't see information out there about them. And he said it's none of our damn business unless you fire him.

"Welcome to open floor, I'm John Gonzalez filling in for Rohan, who was filling in for Mike pina, but I'm joined by SI senior writer and Spike Lee's favorite author. Chris herrings here. What's up, Chris? Not much, John. It's good to be with you. Always good to see you, my friend. We have a lot to get into. I feel like the NBA was dark until this week and then the lights went on and there was just so much to discuss. Later in the show, Ben Simmons speaks he went on JJ Redick's podcast old man in the three and he had a lot to say, which is I'll say not typical of Ben Simmons. He's not the biggest talker, so we'll talk about that. Anthony Edwards got fined for being intolerant. Robert sarver is looking for buyers for the sons and the mercury after being suspended for a year and find $10 million for egregious workplace misconduct. We'll get into that as well. But first, I didn't think it was possible, Chris, for anyone or anything to knock sarver off the top of the news items this week. But late Thursday night, the Boston Celtics issued a statement that had but late Thursday night the Boston Celtics issued a statement that head coach eme udoka will be suspended for the season for violations of team policy. After a month's long investigation, udoka also issued a statement saying he wants to apologize to his players fans, the entire Celtics organization and his family for letting them down said he was sorry for putting the team through a difficult situation and he accepts the team's decision. This was all first reported Chris by woj Adrian wojnarowski of ESPN that this was coming according to woj the violation of team policy involved udoka role in a consensual relationship with a female staff member. Now, there's some pushback here, various reporting shams charney of the athletic, had different details. He said some members of the Celtics organization first became aware of the relationship in July. At the time, leadership was led to believe that both parties by both parties that it was consensual, but shams reported that the woman recently accused judoka of making unwanted comments towards her, leading the team to launch a set of internal interviews. A lot to unpack here, a lot we don't know, Chris, your thoughts on what we know so far. Yeah, I mean, I would just reiterate what you said that it doesn't cost anything to be quiet about things until you feel like there's firm enough reporting and kind of not just firm enough, but also kind of that one side is kind of said, this is accurate. This is the way it happened. This is why it happened the way it happened. The Celtics just had a press conference a couple hours ago that really didn't shed a whole lot of light on much. So it's murky. It's unfortunate. Steven a smith is obviously been the loudest voice on this. He had reactions right after the press conference was over. And it sounds like it potentially could have been fireable just anytime you look at something where someone's getting suspended for a year. Particularly not just at its for a year, but also that the Celtics are saying that they kind of reserve the right to reexamine the issue. A year from now. Yeah.

"The athletic today on the show. It's the second part of our NBA playoff deep dive into the early games of the playoffs here. We didn't really focus much on Boston in Brooklyn outside of the first couple of minutes of this episode. From then on, we talk mostly about the other games that we got to see. We spend it least a minute or two talking about each series, but a big portion of this is going to be focused on Anthony Edwards and Minnesota's growth, that fun Memphis series. With the Timberwolves that I think is poised to go for a long time here into the next couple of weeks. We moved forward, we talked a bit about the 76ers and raptors. We talked a bit about the bulls and bucks. We talked some about Chris Paul's incredible game one performance against the New Orleans pelicans. It was a nice little deep dive into all of the rest of the games outside of that incredible Brooklyn Boston series. So keep it locked here and you'll get to hear all sorts of fun stuff, all sorts of breakdowns of all of those series here and where they stand.

"Early, I don't want to jinx it. He had some knee issues already in March, right? He wasn't all of a sudden, just shoot threes. But I've been there for a few of these now, where you can see some of the signs. Like Kobe was a good example in the late 90s. When, you know, and sometimes they're trying to force feed the next MJ thing. MJ was retiring. People really wanted the next MJ. And it wasn't really until that 2000 playoffs. And the comeback against Portland and game 7, but then when Shaq found out of that finals game in game four, when there was a serenity and a confidence to Kobe, where we all kind of looked at each other and we said, he's got it. This guy has it. You know, you go back to like Jordan against the 86 Celtics when he's just going toe to toe against what I think is still the best or the second best team of all time and he's just completely fearless and just a 100% confident and just carrying himself differently and beyond unafraid of the moment, like kind of like relishing it and soaking it in. See, think of that. The Edwards that we saw in the playing game and the game yesterday, it was, it was beyond alpha doggy. There was a swagger to him that's just really, really rare and really special. When you combine it with a ton of talent and then this athleticism that's pretty ridiculous. So look, super early, I don't want to jinx it, but if you're just talking about it, you just hit these little baby steps, he's hit a lot of the baby steps. All right, so fair question. Do you think Anthony Edwards is surpassed LeBron in the LeBron MJ conversation? Should it be MJ Anthony Evers? Is that a fair? Is that too early for that? Look, there is something about the way he carries himself that feels like, oh, this is what he's supposed to be doing. He's supposed to be taking over these games. And then just to listen to him afterwards, where he's so comfortable, he's man, I love playing here, like the kids tell you you suck and whatever. There's a calmness. Calmness is the right noun. There's something more, most like, yeah, this is what I'm supposed to be doing. What the fuck are you guys? What are you surprised? No, it's what I do. This is what I'm gonna do. I'm amazed this has happened sooner. Getting mad at us. What do you think? I feel like I'm a little late with this whole thing. This is better than your saquon Barclays the best running back of all time. Thing which was like, was it August before a second season? I forget. 'cause I don't like, I would rather be late than early, 'cause I think the misses are when you're too early on this stuff. But you and I both had a moment earlier in this regular season where we're texting each other being like, I have the Timberwolves as a featured event at the house because of this kid. And they were just better. They had a toughness to them. They're figuring things out. Finch has done a really good job. You know, I think we mentioned the kind of carry over from last year, but this is, this is the kind of stuff where you go, wait, did we get one of these guys? Did we get one of these guys? That's different. This is really important. That's the key point of this. This weekend was the first time where we all wondered that. Where we wonder like, wait, is this Edwards going to be like a guy? That just a really fun guy? Like ja, we did this early in the year, but it was more the sense of this guy so freaking exciting. Did we get another one of these mid 80s Dominique Jordan type of just super fun athletes where every game there's three things. The Edwards thinks different. Because I think he really thinks he's the best player in the league. We always talk about that so bad. Like if you asked them if you were like, you did the thing where you, what do you have to drug the person? What's the thing that true serum? What's the real life version of truth serum? Kyle probably knows. If we gave him that, I think deep down in the deep recesses of Seoul, he thinks he's the best part of the week. And you know, we saw. Which is a super dangerous thing for a lot of players, by the way. Well, that was what was interesting about yesterday. He never felt Kyle Mann made this point in the ring army shot. That was a good point. It never seemed like he was going, I'm hot, give me more because sometimes in the past Edwards would, if he's feeling it, he would always take that one jump or two more. Yeah. Yesterday was not like that. Yesterday was a guy who was just in control who every time they needed a bucket or a play he made it. And I don't considering that he's that 21 yet. I don't quite know what to make of this. And if I was a Timberwolves fan, I would be losing my fucking mind. 'cause I Tatum had moments like this in his rookie season, right? And that playoff run where he would go toe to toe with that calves team for like a quarter. I'd be like, oh my God, you see when he went toe to toe for a quarter. Tatum took this team that was the two seed and was the best guy on the floor. And it wasn't close, by the way. He was the best guy in that game, and it was like, if you never watch the basketball game before that, those.

"So the big reason, if you're think of Minnesota Memphis, is if there's an Edwards thing going on here that would be like kind of generational wouldn't just be like, oh man, remember that one. This would be something different would be going on. There's a chance that this guy is truly special. You go. Yeah, that's kind of what, wait, what if he really is this guy? Because he had this weird lull towards the end of the regular season, which I still, I'm just going to admit it. There are times where I feel like the D'angelo Russell combo with him, although this has been a better version of D'angelo Russell. Like my thing with the angel of Russell is this. He does the hard things well, and he does the really easy things poorly. And so it can still fuck you when he's going great scoring and dishing and his skill, but then it's like, why can't you do these other little things are a lot easier that can lead to losses. So I've always felt like even though I want a couple scoring options from the wing, I wondered if that ever got in the way of Anthony Edwards and when Edwards is like, all right, you know what? I just think I'm gonna take over here for a little while and then he started doing it again at the end of the regular season and then what he did in game one. This is not sort of more getting absurd here. But could we be on the cusp of all right, I don't even want to say this out loud because I feel like it's stupid. But my favorite example of like, oh, okay, so this is real. It's when LeBron got to that awful calves team to the NBA Finals. They beat Detroit that gets swept by the spurs. That team was not good. I always joked that the LeBron deserves a half a ring for that one. And then it's like, all right, well this is now it took the rest of it took a little bit longer than we thought. And I'm not saying Edwards now is going to carry the Timberwolves of the NBA Finals, but if this is as real as you and I think it could potentially be, then maybe this is what it's going to be. He's that special that I'd at least allow myself to have this thought where other 7 seeds. I'd be like, ah, whatever. You got the first one in Memphis is too good. They're going to figure this out. It turns 21 on August 5th. That's right, same birthday. It's.

"That. When flip tragically passed away in Sam Mitchell took over sand did a great job actually with those young guys, he really connected with them. And then, you know, mister Taylor decided to bring in Tom thibodeau and tips that first year, you know, he goes 31 and 51, but during that season, Zach Levine tears his ACL. And it was in Detroit. It was just it's one of those things that was kind of a nothing play. And when Zach towards ACL, it kind of forces Tim's his hands because now when you go 31 and 51, you're brought in to get the team to the playoffs. Tips is going to do what he needs to do. And so when you're president of basketball operations and the coach, you know, I mean, you're willing to make some choices. And so I think, you know, when you trade Zach lavine, it's like, of those three Samuel and I would talk about this. Wiggins was probably one that was the most talented just in raw talent. Towns was probably the most skilled, but Zach lavine was the one that boy the way he was wired up, Ryan, like, and you can see what he's doing now in Chicago. The kid just loved the game. And he was so athletically gifted. And on a level that is very rare. And you have to agree that Zach lavine is from a physical standpoint. He was a freak of nature. So of the three, towns and Zach were the ones that I personally would have kept. And so when Tim shipped him out, I was a little bit disappointed because I knew what he was and when I think we kind of all knew what he was. But when you get to me butler back in that deal, I get it. Look, I get it, but the plan of trying to get and keep Jimmy long term just wasn't there. So then you're kind of in this pattern of like, all right, the Jimmy thing doesn't work out. You lose the asset in Levine and on top of some of the other pieces involved in that train, which would have been marketing, but you know, whatever. And then Anthony Edwards comes along. And I wasn't sure out of Georgia other than physically how special he was. It's funny because we had some guys at the top of that draft in general just in any of them shoot and then Anthony Edwards, this thing happened at least for me this year with him. We're beginning of the year I'm like, I am all in on this guide. It's not just the numbers. It's not just the dunks. It's that there's something even last night. There was a moment last night in Portland game. He goes for 40. And this is the stuff I noticed with him. He was back as Portland was taken free throws. And I think you only had two on the free throw rebound. And he liked he sees it and he turns to one of the teammates and yells to be like, wow, what are you doing? Like, get up there. And I went, I love this guy. So what is he? Because he seems to just be like, it's not a lot of guys get numbers, but this feels like the kind of talent and kind of personality you can actually think long-term about what your team is capable of. He's a killer. You know? He's a killer. He is. He thinks he can win any matchup. He thinks he no moment is too big for him. He's super confident. He wants to be great. He's coachable. He's like all the things you want to play to be from an intangible standpoint. That's what that's what he is. He's, you know, he was plug and play from a media standpoint. I mean like the guy would come in and win the press conference every single time he had people cracking up, which shows you a level of intelligence. You know what I mean? Like he's a high functioning kid. Like he's really smart. And he comes in and wins the press conference and has people cracking up and he just tells the truth and he's so raw. But then on the court, I mean, you've seen it for yourself. I mean, you've watched a lot of Anthony Edwards, so you know how no moments to big firm. He is very confident. He's learned a lot on the defensive end. He was not good last year as a rookie. Didn't have a lot of awareness, but he wants to be good. And then there have been players that have come in mentored him. Ricky Rubio last year, and then Patrick Beverly this year, Patrick Beverly's been I don't know nationally of people understand like how important bev has been to the culture and fabric of this team. But he's made everybody committed to the defensive end. And it's not just pat bev. It's also the way that pat bev is transformed Deangelo Russell. And the way that he's communicated. If you watch the game last night, Ryan, you saw Anthony Edwards go over to the bench and pat bev like in his ear like telling him talking to him. And so that's the way pat bev has been with him. And it's been great the way that Dave coalesced. But I just love Anthony Edwards because he wants to win and that's the main thing and so it's all about winning for him. And watching him at practice, watching him working up for the game. Like this kid wants to be great. And if you're a timbral span, you love him for that. What's the town's development been like? You've seen it as close as anyone. I think he comes in a league. Remember, there was the GM survey where it was like. It went from Anthony Davis to 51% of the GMs or whatever the number was, would start their franchise with Carl Anthony towns. So then it's like, wait, is he this guy? And then it doesn't look like he's that guy, and then it turns into all sorts of criticism, and yet he still is one of the most skilled big men we've ever seen, but it didn't necessarily give us a lot of losses too. So I don't know what's fair about what I think nationally we would say about towns. I think he gets a lot of criticism. Some of it is fair, but I think for the most part, Carl is up there with them bead and jokic in terms of the town level of three point shooting is there the low post game is there. Defensively, he's been criticized, but I would say that no one's been through more than Carl Anthony towns. I mean, Nicola jokic has had the same coaching step, or at least Mike Malone has been there the entire time when you think of Joel embiid. I mean, he had Brett Brown the entire time and then he gets Doc Rivers, another great coach who's going to be on Hall of Fame coach. So the stability that embiid and jokic have had and even really go bear. I mean, Rudy Gobert had quin Snyder, the entire time and had a system in place that really caters to what Rudy Gobert does. So when you talk about Ryan the top centers in the league, no one's been through more than Carl Anthony towns. When Carl's drafted flip Saunders passes away, Sam Mitchell takes over. Tom thibodeau comes in. The dust up between Jimmy Butler.

"So a player that's kind of on the other end of the developmental spectrum in terms of how he came to the league, I feel like Anthony Edwards is kind of opposite of lamella in a way. In terms of like feel, my coming into the league, I feel like Anthony over time has these immense physical tools and that's kind of what got him here, you know? And not that lamelo doesn't have those, but they're challenges are kind of different. Do you see what I'm saying? Like where I'm going with that? Where they came from to where they are and where they're going to be going. I feel like lamelo is really, really far ahead of Anthony in terms of feel. How do you feel about that statement? Yeah, I mean, they're very different players and they're very different pass ahead of them for sure. I think that's fair to say, yeah. I mean, lamelo is clearly the more in terms of basketball IQ and feel for the games. Anthony Edwards is much more just getting buckets. I'm bigger and faster than you and I can also shoot. And I can just score it will basically. That's kind of how it plays right now. Yeah. So over the course of the year last year, it was kind of an odd year for Minnesota in terms of they had a coaching chain, some of the numbers are a little weird if you go in there and you want to read into that and I know not everybody wants to do that. But I think that ants rookie year was good. He kind of picked up momentum as we went. I always have a hard time with people really one of the cornerstone like, well actually responses to any kind of work is when people do the after the all star break. Do you ever get that from people? They're like, well, actually, after the all star break, I'm always like, yeah, but after the all star break is also a time where it seems like start resting, they start, it's kind of like what we're seeing right now in the NBA in December where it's like there's a lot of guys coming up and getting chances. But Minnesota over the course of the year kind of started to put some momentum together ant started to kind of figure it out I know Chris Finch came in and started giving Carl a different role. Same kind of deal that we did with lamelo here. What were your early impressions of aunt? Did he succeed? Did he surpass them? What were your impressions of his first year coming up to where we are now? Well, I think you hit on the main thing as when Finch came in. And if you look at the numbers once Finch became the head coach, he really pushed ant to a bigger role because right now aunt needs the ball, and if he doesn't have just kind of out there sometimes, he needs to be engaged in the game. He needs to activate his scoring. He can't just be a spot up guy. And I think Finch recognizes that empowered him a bit and his numbers started going up pretty fast once Finch took over. And I think that is carried over into this new season. I think the first question with Edwards, he's a weird player in a lot of ways, because he's not a point guard. But he's not traditional to guard either because for me, when I think traditional two guard, I think Devin Booker Bradley Beal, a guy who can play on and off the ball who runs around screens, catches and shoots. But that's not really ants game. He's a ball dominant guard who's not a playmaker. So I think the first question for me is, what kind of player is aunt anyways? What kind of school to see fall under in terms of type of player? I think you're hitting on what the kind of developmental questions are going to be for him going forward. Who he is personally. The big challenge is for me when I was profiling him his rookie year and the problems for him have been kind of the same. They've remained the same. And it hasn't been that long, so these things haven't resolved themselves. But he's a pretty insistent ball dominant player like you said, but coming along with that is that's okay if you want to be bald dominant if you're like, and he's one of those I'm a tough shot maker type players. He really, that's his DNA as a player is like he really leans on tough shot making. And his separation obviously, we've seen all this stuff about his athleticism, his otherworldly. It's like off the charts. But he's not a super, this is something I brought up in my rookie report on him last year is that he was like a pretty historically bad dribble pull up shooter last year. 27.56% in 2021 and one of the higher volume players for his age. That was one of the lower numbers in quite some time. This year, it's up a little bit to 30% on those shots. So you've got a guy who ideally would be like getting to the rim with this athleticism drawn a lot of fouls, but he's on this track of he probably should be like a primary initiator with his skill set, but the passing and the stuff isn't totally there. And we're kind of seeing those things come along slowly. He's just very, very streaky. If you go and you look at, he'll have these eruptions. It's hard to argue with people about Anthony Edwards because he'll give you these insane performances where he'll score 48 points and go 7 for 13 from three because he's so streaky, but then you look at his box scores and it's like, there's a bunch of games where he goes like two for 8, two for 7. That kind of is more consistently who he is. I think the question that you asked is just kind of hovering in the air. I honestly don't know if can he be this type of player and get to where he wants to go. Which is going to come first. The playmaking or the efficient scoring, like or does he need both? I think what you're getting at is kind of the same thing at jaylen green has when you're that athletic and you can shoot that well, you can always get a shot. It's just hard to train yourself to not take bad shots when you.

"But I understood why, but I personally thought that he was the most talented player in the draft and the more I watched it. It was kind of eye opening. I did two videos on him over the course of like ten months and yeah, it was super eye opening to really lean in and watch and be like, there's definitely something here. Okay, this is going to seem silly, but hopefully this makes sense. So I've been on a real wild west kick lately, reading a lot of books about the wild west. I read this surgery. Yeah, great, by the way, lonesome dove is awesome. So I read this book is called the Comanche empire, which is awesome too. And it's like breaking down the whole command to civilization. And there are just really long segment about like Comanche war bands. And what a command she wore bandages like they have their winter, they winter and village, then when the spring comes is like all the young guys, they get their horses. We're gonna go rip it and run. We're gonna go raid the west's raid Mexico raid the east. We're gonna have 5 or 6 guys on horses. We're gonna move as a team. We have one liter, and we just go. And I'm reading that, I'm like, this is what basketball ultimately is. Like basketball is like scratching this civilizational urge. You know, because the comanches were like Robin and killing. We don't want to do that anymore. But the same basic idea is the same where football is much more of like an industrialized mass communication, like a mask movement, mobilize big groups of people, like an assembly line. Basketball is way more fundamental. It's one more primitive. Let's get three or four guys. Let's rip and run. Let's just go. And it's like lamella to me is the ultimate leader of a war band. He makes everybody else involved. He's a great leader. And who wouldn't want to be on his team? We're going to make things happen. It's going to be fun. Let's go. This is galaxy brain charts is a wonderful thing that I don't feel like I've got to see enough. You just out meta galaxy brain metaphor. You blew my mind with that one. You're always teasing me about my metaphors. That was were you sitting here reading this and you just had this Eureka moment? Like, this is basketball. Wow. A 100%. A 100%. Is lamella the leader of that team, though? That's what I'm wondering is he more of a lead by example type, and somebody else leads the team. Sort of the way yo kitchen I don't know that he or Luca, you've always talked about Luca isn't necessarily the leader of that team. Is he from what you've observed? Do you think lamella is a leader? He's the leader on the court. I don't know. He's so young, off the court, maybe not. But definitely on the court. The thing goes to him. Before we go on to talk about Anthony Edwards, the ant man,.

I said, you deserve it. You've earned that right to do that to your opening act. I'll never forget that night for the two reasons. One of what he did there and also his nice compliment. So yeah, I think I was a little surprised. But both times I was surprised and both made me smile. The first time you watch a cut of this documentary oh yeah. What was that experience like? Because it's so weird to watch a film made about you. I know you've been in the spotlight for almost four decades at this point, but here's this carefully crafted film by somebody who's great at what she does. And it's about you. Yeah, yeah. So are you watching? Are you enjoying it? Are you nervous? What are your reactions? They're very nervous. Very nervous. Only in the sense that I know the world's going to see it. So I'm nervous about like, okay, what in there that I'm going to do that I'm not liking that I'm wishing that no one could ever see again. Like that. Like that thing I told her not to put in the movie where we would say what it is because it's super funny, but it's something some video that I did. Back in the week, you have to promise me, you won't put this in. Yeah. Yeah. But I was really nervous, but one thing about penny, she sent me an email prior to the link to letting me see it. And it said, hey, you may not like the first 12 and a half minutes of the video of the movie. Yeah. Because it's pretty harsh on you. But she's a don't worry you win in the ad. And I thought that was kind of her to say, so when I started watching it, I was smiling because I already knew what was going to be there. And I already seen all that and heard all of that for four decades. So everything she said, I just smile and didn't bother me at all. And I was touched that she cared enough to send me that email, she didn't need to, though, because I was completely fine with it. And yeah, when I watched it, I was just kind of thinking, okay, as I play my saxophone, am I going to like those licks that I'm playing? I know she's going to capture a lot of practicing. Shit, is she going to capture me practicing where I nailed it or is she going to get me practicing when I didn't nail it and I'm thinking, oh, I hope I'll be okay with that. And fortunately, she got all the good stuff. So I'm happy with that. Last question. Well, we should say, I'll do my last question after you have a new album coming out. We should mention. Yeah, please. Let's talk about it. Talk about the album. Okay, great. So new standards is an album about the sounds of the 50s and 60s. I love the traditional jazz ballads. I love the jazz masters. We're talking about Stan gets and Dexter Gordon and miles and Coltrane. And but I love that when they played their mellow jazz ballots. So these jazz ballots have these sophisticated jazz chords and they've got these melodies. Now, not necessarily do I like the whole arrangements that they did back then because a lot of times they did the beautiful melodies and then they started playing these solos that were just way too complicated for the song. It spoiled the song to me. Yeah, I know you can play, but it spoiled it for me. So I thought, can I do music like that? My way, but still have that sophisticated sound, but then my melodies and then do the solos the way I would want them to have been done not to say that they weren't great solos back then. I don't want to say that. So that was the premise for the album. And I think I did it, I think I did a really good job on it. I call it new standards because I'm not playing the old standards. I'm playing songs that sound similar in the vibe of the old standards, but I'm calling them new standards. So that's the album. I'm loving every minute of it. All right, good luck. Thank you. Before my last question, I've forgotten I have a second to last question. Great. The Spotify era of music where people can just take their 12 favorite songs of yours that they have and just throw them on a playlist. Yeah. Not the way you originally intended as you're reading album. You're trying to say stuff. Yeah. I know it's like, on the one hand, great that you're exposing that these playlists are exposing all these new people to your music. The other had not how you originally intended the music to be heard. How have you reconciled that in your head? I just had the reconcile, 'cause I didn't like it at first. I didn't like it at all. I like, I like having to drive down to the record store and get the record. I like it. It's a romantic moment. You go down there with someone with your friends or your loved ones or your significant other. Hey, let's go see what's new. And then you'd go and you ask a person. Hey, what's new music is out? Oh, here are the new records for the week. Oh, I didn't know Elton John had a new record. Yeah. What's that sound like? Well, hey, do you think we should get that? Let's take it home and let's listen to it with some wine or whatever. So that's.

"What did we miss in the documentary that we should had in there? No, no. I love that there was really nothing about my personal relationships in there. I think that's great. I really love that part because I think people don't need to know all that stuff, you know? They don't really need to know. And here's the thing, Bill, which is I think I have one of the greatest careers for this reason. People are attracted to me because of my sound and my music. Not as me as a man and as like a, you know, like an iconic guy, you know, like an actor, you might go, oh my God, then they just can't get enough of this. They just want him or her. They don't want me in the sense. They just something about my music touches them and they just want to connect with me. Sensitive guy. Yeah, and so for me, it's always been great that nobody really cares that much about what goes on in my private life, which is just fine by me, which allows me to go to whole foods and go shopping. I get to do my laundry. I get to do I get to go to Home Depot and buy stuff and I'm not attracting a huge crab by doing it. It's pretty awesome. And you were, for somebody who was so famous, even though you're dating different people, but it was pretty on the down low. Like it was never. You seem like you avoided you never dated like the Jennifer Aniston in year two of Friends. Like somebody who was like too famous where all of a sudden you're sucked into a tornado of like this a list celebrity relationship or now you're getting followed every year you go. So you thought you were strategic, how you handled it? Well, you know, I was married most of my life during my prime, so I really was now. Well, you had that too. Yeah, I wasn't out there doing stuff, so it was pretty easy for me to keep a low profile on that. And when did you get married? What year? Owen was married in 1990 two, 90 92. Yeah, so you had like four or 5 years there. I sure did. Yeah, I sure did. Yeah. Well, but also the good thing about those years that we didn't have cell phones. Right. So, you know, who knows what I did during those years? That's all. The phones, there's no way way harder now. Even Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, they go on like two dates and there's photos. Yeah, everywhere they go, and they go to a musical part. Yeah, you know, the thing that I really, here's what I don't like about our modern technology. What I do like is what you see in the movie where as you talked about earlier, I get to fine tune things and I have the ability to take a note and move it or fix this and that. That's fantastic with the technology. Here's what I don't like. I don't like the fact that if I'm playing a concert in, you know, Omaha Nebraska. And let's say it's just whatever it is, guys are filming it or girls or whatever, and then it's out there and the public can hear how we see the mystery's gone. Like, why do you even need to come to my concert if you can just go online and just see a whole bunch of live shows? You don't really need to see it. Comedy is common is like this too, right? Where you can, they're taping and a lot of the comedians are like, put your phones away. You don't get to tape this. I'm still working out my materials. That's right. And if it's not worked out very well, then somebody puts it out there. Somebody goes, oh, well, that guy's not so good. Or that guy's not so funny. But we don't have that chance to work it out like that anymore. It's everything's public. And I don't like that part of it, because I just always thought that when if people wanted to see me, come to my concert. If you want to hear me play, you gotta come see me play. You can't get it any other way, but now you can get it all other ways. And I don't like that. We hit your hair in the dock a little bit. Yeah. But the hair became a calling card for you. I'm gonna say late 80s. And at some point, that was it. You just kept it. But as the hair is growing, at what point are you like, I'm going with this. This is it. What year are we talking about here? We're talking about my junior year in high school. So I'm like 16, 17. And, you know, I've got the kind of hair that if it's short, it's still got a little curl, it kind of goes out of control. It was like, I can't do anything with it. I'm going to grow it long and just see what happens. I didn't know what it would look like longer. And it went through a really ugly stage where it was too long to be good short and too short to be good long and then finally it got longer and then the curls started to just kind of find their own spot. This is a lot easier. Now I don't have to think about it. And so it's just been this way forever. I don't put a lot of time into my hair. It's just is the way it is. And it's so great that I don't have to think about it. I already know, and I say this at my concert. So this is not a dig, but I know that if I cut my hair, my career will go right down the toilet just like Michael Bolton's. Well, yeah. When I say that at my show, I'm Michael and I am so he knows I say this joke, right? So I say that in the audience goes, oh no. And it's like, it's so funny because I guess Michael and I are really good friends and so I think that's a funny joke. That's a good one..

"Don't be closed off. Don't be scared, don't be scared of the spice, embrace the spice. Taste the gumbo, and it'll be good for you. He just has to come down and say, I want to learn from you guys. I want to learn from you guys. I want to learn. I want to, I want to be one of you, and they will make him one of us, as long. As he wins. Okay, you go out there, you lose the Aubrey you lose the floor to use. You can't handle dumbbell. I've been to Louisiana in 7 years, which is 7 years too long. The gumbo jambalaya they're in like my top 8, maybe even top 7. For going to a city and one in a sample, the delicacies of that city. I don't know which one I like more, but I think I have gumbo is a slight minus one 25 favorite over the jambalaya. But I love both. Because I can't get you can't but you can't get gumbo really anywhere. Like, if you see it on a menu, if you had a restaurant and they're like, our special today is gumbo. You'd be like, what? It feels like just this very region specific food that is just like a house was here right now. You'd be like, drew would be coming out of his mouth. You just can't get it anywhere else. So my mom comes out with my mom comes out, she makes gumbo, but the gumball that she makes, my mother makes the best gumbo in the world. And I'm not just saying that. I swear to God. I believe my mom makes the best meat sauce in the world. Yeah, so I'm not just saying that. She makes a good bone in the world. But when she makes it here, it's not as good. Because even to interesting. Even to she knows this, we talk about this. You can't even get what you need in LA to make gumbo. You can't even get the stuff that you need. So if you're not where you're supposed to be, it's just not going to be like it is. I like it should be. Chiang says that about LA, there's certain things that LA offers. Certain vegetable fruit situations that's just so superior to anywhere else. And it's like, if you want certain ingredients, always the place. Before we go, we've Kenny G coming on after you. Tell your Kenny gee, Thanksgiving story. So we had a trumpet player. I'm not going to say his name. He's going to know who he is when I say this story. We had a trumpet player that was at our House what time for Thanksgiving? Some years ago. This guy who with the high school with me, and it's one of the best trumpet players down there in Louisiana. He became a very, very, very, very prominent musician. Yeah. So we're all talking. And they're talking about jazz and stuff like that. Then I make a kidney Ji joke. I say something about Kenny G and this guy, the trumpet player goes, well, you know, people joke about those guys, but Kenny G is a fantastic musician. In his own right, you know, people make jokes about Kimi G or the guys who play other jazz instruments like women Tisdale or whoever those guys aren't you here on the smooth channel, whatever the channel is, it's always the smoothest jazz smooth jazz. They make jokes about these guys, but these guys are competitive musically with the other jazz greats in their own right. My uncle lost his fucking mind. When I say he lost his mind, he was like, young man, I don't even know you. But if you about to tell me that some goddamn Kenny G can't stand up next to Coltrane or Davis or Louis Armstrong or 80s people, you need to get your young ass up out of the house and my homie looks back up and goes, wow, wow, wow, why are you talking to me like this? And my dad is like, everybody calm down. And I'm like, no, don't calm down. You guys, please. Express all of the feelings that you have in the loudest way. And then he actually said that as far as musicianship, Kenny G is just as good as any of those guys, he just doesn't play the same style of jazz. And it was a Civil War. Wow. Well, that's why we did this Doc. One of the most polarizing musicians. And yet, one of the most successful musicians, and he totally gets the conversation. He's very aware of it, which is what makes him so interesting. All right, then we can hear you in higher learning. We can hear in the ringer verse. Any good marvel movies coming? What do we got? Oh, yeah. We got the hawkeye right now, which is a marvel Disney+ show that's on right now. We're covering that on the ring of earth. And then in a couple of weeks man, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Oh yeah. One of the biggest probably not one of the biggest the biggest marvel moments since endgame. So you guys, please, if you're happy at all, keep up with us. Pew pew. Hawkeye, what does B minus B? No, hey, all kinds of name. A yeah. Is renner back? Are we having a? Is there a renaissance? A renaissance. Yeah, we're just doing this thing. All guys definitely know. We love in hawkeye. All right, good to see you, van lathan. Congrats on your coach. Thank you..

"Like climbing the bars, he was the best at that. And just, oh, we're playing kickball. I'm in the best of this. And somehow he has pulled that over to basketball and he's playing in these games with the best players in the world. And you really, you think that he thinks he's the best player in the game. It could be like every time the other side, I'm still the best guy. Yeah, nobody can guard me. Attitude. I love it. And he's generally right. And, you know, last year, there was a game where I forget who called Anthony towns got into a tussle with. It was like a, you know, a brouhaha. And they asked him to the Edwards after the game. He's like, that was nothing. That's not bad. Yeah, yeah, but that was something. That's nothing. They gotta do that. That's right. I just love that. And especially next to a guy like talent, let's face it, hasn't exactly been some type of leader. He's not a leader of men that hasn't been told that he plays. You know, Jimmy Butler 80s freaking lunch for that very reason, right? And the fact that Anthony Edwards is like, no, I'm gonna step up and be the yank to this guy's Yang. It's beautiful to see it. I do share your enthusiasm for this team because I love watching Edwards and towns working pick and roll because again, but they never read. That sag into the middle shit you can't do that. We call it the talented jump shot. You have to actually commit to coming up on Edwards and once you do that, he's gonna put the jets on and go by you. It's a dangerous ass play. I don't know why, you know, did not run anymore. They have to get rid of Russell. They have to get him off the team. Due respect to him. They need him off the team. Because all I care about if I'm a Minnesota fan, if I run Minnesota from coaching Minnesota, if I own Minnesota, I just care about towns in Edwards. And that's it. And I like Vanderbilt too. I like a couple of their roll guys, but ultimately it's those two guys and anybody who interferes with that in any way. They'll have these games where Russell's like, I got this. I'm gonna do my James Harden impersonation. I would just be, I just want Edwards to get the reps, that you're not gonna win the title this year. Get the reps find out if Edwards and towns can play together. And as you said, towns is not a leader. He's a beta, that's fine. And maybe Edwards is like the perfect guy for him. Maybe this is like the perfect personality combo. You have one guy who, you know, he's a nice guy. You have another guy who, in every game, thinks he's the best athlete in the world. That's a nice combo. I like it. That's a good start, but they need to understand and it should be said, we should talk about Vanderbilt and McDaniels. What like the energy these guys played with? The way they, the way they fly around on the court is cool to watch. And it's like, Minnesota has something, right? I don't think they've harnessed all of the gifts that are collectively on the roster. I don't think they're playing to the talent level that they possess yet, but they got something, man. They were one of those teams that I could see them in a series if they sneak into the 8 seed against anybody in these possession by possession games like winning 101 matchups in games and giving a team a run for their money just given their talent level. They got talent. I think they're going to become a thing. I think it's going to become a basketball Internet, Twitter type of thing. But I think Edwards is so kind of captivating to watch. And all of their game, every game they're in is entertaining. Like I always enjoy for whatever reason they're just a good matchup with whoever they play. The games are always fun. The Philly game on Saturday was one of the most fun games I've watched all year. And I think Edwards is going to become a thing. Now how he handles that will be interesting. Sure. I think it'll bounce right off of them because I think his attitude would be. Of course. Yeah. I figured it out. I know. Yeah, we should tell me. I've been here. And you know another cool thing Bill when you watch their home games, the crowd every time he does anything. He's like, oh. Yeah..

"What Brooklyn wouldn't play him for an entire playoffs when they didn't have a center. Like nearly, we should get Deandre. He'll help us. I don't get it. Wise, don't be surprised. If after next year when Lebrons Lakers contract is over, he finishes his career in Cleveland. I'm ready for it. I can't wait. I'm gonna be texting you the moment happens. Last thing, I have a league pass crush. It's a team that plays in Minnesota. They're kind of a train wreck at times. Yeah. They employed D'angelo Russell who I think would be the single least fun person to play basketball with. I feel bad for his teammates constantly. Sometimes he's good. But I'm fascinated by Anthony Edwards. Me too. I think and I don't think I've talked about on a pod yet. There's something going on with him, athletically. That is really different. And I don't want to throw out the Giannis LeBron kind of names, but I'm going to do it anyway. And I don't care. There's an athletic swagger to him. That is really unusual. And the best way I could, I was talking about it was somebody today. It's like watching in college when the football players come to play with the actual basketball team. And there's the one guy in the football team who's just such a great athlete. He can just walk right in and he's better than everybody in the basketball team and it's like, man, imagine that this guy played basketball. He'd be amazing. That's kind of what Anthony Edwards actually is because he was a football player, too. He's like 13. What he's doing is a power to guard, I don't even know who to compare him to. Because he's he's like, it's almost like watching a Bo Jackson was a two guard. He's so strong. He's so fast. He has really no idea what he's doing at his 20. He turned 20 in August. But the fiscal gifts it now makes sense to me why so many of these teams were so fascinated by him as the number one pick or why you kind of had to take the chance. To be honest, I'm delighted by it. He reminds me of a young Kobe, athletically. He doesn't have the feel and the IQ that Kobe had automatically where he was such a great playmaker like basically from the pace of series. He finally series like Kobe was a great freaking, you know, playmaker from the start. Like, 21. He was the Lakers. Point guard was Derek Fisher in name only. The primary playmaker was Kobe. Like, Anthony Edwards doesn't have that. However, nobody can stay in front of him. Yeah. And when he gets to the club, he's explosive. And that's what reminds me of a young Kobe. He shifted. He's explosive and he's big. Like Kobe was Kobe got jacked in at like 6 6 and then he grew to be like 6, 7 or something crazy like that. So like he's big, he's nimble, and he's explosive, so in a lot of ways he reminds me of Kobe and his shot looks way better than I thought it would this early in his career. I think his percentage is low because he's always taking really hard shots. He's always taking off the dribble, step back, plant and, you know, firing type of shots, but he reminds me of a young Kobe. People don't remember pre knee injury kopi, right? Like you got, well, that 99,000, 2001. Right. You got the knee injury and then by like, oh, four O 5. He was a little bit more ground bound, but before that, he was lightning quick and he was dunking on people's heads. And that's what Anthony Edwards reminds me of he reminds me of a young cope. Definitely the explosiveness, I'm with you. I think the difference between them is he's got to be 20 pounds thicker than Kobe was. And that's the part that's unusual to me because usually when these young athletes come into the league, like a 20 year old, they're not fully formed grown men yet, right? Like, look at somebody like Evan mobile. We know 5 years from now. He's going to have 25 extra pounds of muscle in the whole thing. And we know it's going to go. I don't know what Edwards is going to look like in 5 years. I don't because you figure just he's going to get older. You add weight as you get older. It's almost a little Zion. When he bounces off dudes, he wins the bounce. Yes. Like he'll go, he could go into it could be Deandre 8 and it could be whoever. And he goes into those guys, he's not going backwards after he bounces into the guys. And I don't know. I just think I see it with the other teams. They're really scared of him. They can't stay in front of him. He has the ball and they're all like everybody's like, oh, he's got the ball. He's got the ball. And I don't think even he realizes yet Minnesota doesn't realize it that didn't run pick a roles in them. I don't know why they don't pick and roll him in towns on the wall because they have their point guard that. Yeah, Russell. I got this. I got this. Look, I guess, look, but my thing about Anthony Edwards that also matters is, you know, another guy with freaky athleticism, that often comes up in these conversations is Wiggins, right? But he never had the Anthony Edwards vitality. This dude is a freaking pit bull. This dude wants to rip your freaking head off every single play. He has a motor. He just his temperament. I love his temperament. Even when he's having a bad night, he's ready to go next possession. He's not worried about it. He's not in his head about it. And he's like this sort of emotional leader of the team? Yeah. Because he's the coolest fucking guy in the team. He cares about he's 30. And it's already gotten to the point his postgame press conferences are great. He's had some really good quotes. But the stuff he says, it's just like, it's just clear at every point of his life. He's been the best athlete in whatever was happening. Like if he was on the playground.

"Yeah, I don't know how DeAngelo is going to play. I just kind of want to say a couple of things about Edwards for you get to that. I think the big thing that sucks is translated for him that we all expected to translate, but it's really important to see. It have translated is that when he does choose to drive, the way that he kind of changes explosiveness into power and power into explosiveness. He initiates contact and goes through guys. When he wants to wage It's not just like oh yeah like you know I'm going to I'm going to try and absorb a little bit of this contact here. Know he's like going into guys and going up through like real life in protectors and part of the problem is he hasn't really have any craft yet around the basket for drawing fouls but I think that that's the kind of stuff you can learn like it's really really hard. Kind of like you said at the table here to find guys that have this intersection of explosiveness and power that also have this level of body control and can decelerate, right? Like off all three of those things together make it so that if he ever does learn to shoot, it's going to be curtains. I think like it's going to be unbelievable if he really learns to shoot, but you're right. Like right now, he doesn't shoot it. Well, he's taken 321, pull up, jumpers this year and half court settings, he's made them at home. 28.3% clip like that's gross. Yeah, that's I went back. It is gross. I went back actually and went year-by-year looking at the players who who finished off that shooting volume 30% or below. And there were only like two or three examples of players climbing out of it was like John Wall climbed out of it and had a couple Seasons. This is I'm just trying to remember off top my head. I think Ricky Rubio usually if you shoot at that volume early in your career and at that bad and efficiency. You just basically just don't get to do it ever. Again, that's kind of the way it works. You're either like a topic that they really need your high out outcome to play out or you just don't get the opportunity to do it again, but I think you're absolutely right that. Like the the sort of template that he's shown in terms of like getting to the basket like his shot, allocation has really improved from from Georgia to to hear. Yep. To Minnesota and I think that the, the free-throw production is, I don't even know what cap I would put on it. Like, he could, he could become a major, major producer at the line, for sure. Yeah. But just kind of frankly, doesn't you know what I mean? Like, it's it's kind of maddening the way that he chooses to play the game, which, you know, is what it is. And it's always been a problem. Like, I was watching the NFL draft yesterday and I was watching The Bleacher Report coverage with Adam lefkoe and Kyle Rogers in Aqib Talib wage in one thing that they said, they kept saying it over and over again. Was, you are in college, you are in the pros. What you are in college. And I think that that's, like, not quite true with basketball because college players in football, get to the NFL at 21, 22 years old, oftentimes. Whereas in basketball, they're getting they're like, nineteen bucks. It was kind of interesting to think about it in the context of someone like Anthony Edwards, who basically has been the same guy that he was a Georgia last year..

Anthony Edwards Adam lefkoe Kyle Rogers DeAngelo John Wall Ricky Rubio 21 Aqib Talib nineteen bucks last year 28.3% two yesterday 30% 321 Georgia Edwards three three examples NFL
