Three million He is thirty one years old. He becomes the highest payed left tackle in the League for now and Costanzo Who is guy has been very very steady for the colts They decide to stay in business and remember. This is despite a team that disappointed last year. One of the best. If not the best offensive line football they could turn it around very quickly with a good off-season big win for them. That they got him to not retire. He was going to be a free agent. He's someone if he actually went to free agency. He took a home done discount. You don't hear players taking hometown discount too often. But like there's no question he would have made considerably more money if he just decided to become a free agent. Yeah he was at the. I'm playing for the colts. Nobody stage of his career and have one of his best years last year. A little bit of time with the Faster Ed Russia's but still like you said very solid left Apple.

The rookie pro bowler and Morton Lewinsky at the guards Graydon Smith and Anthony Costanzo are the tackles chiefs up upfront with Chris Jones and Alan Bailey. Derek naughty is in the middle. Justin, Houston, Depor, Anthony Hitchens, Reggie Ragland of the linebackers. Steven Nelson KENDALL fuller the corners. And it's incomplete looking for Eric Hebron the tight end trying to make a diving catch just over the thirty. He couldn't hang on an idiot apples goes three and out. And that's a big three and out Ryan for this Kansas City defense when you consider the colts coming into this game or number one in the NFL in third down conversions Andrew luck had two receivers opened the two inside receivers just crossed underneath right at about five yards. This is caused some confusion, but the depth of the linebackers for Kansas City allowed them to get the first down just not able to hang onto that football though. And now they have to point Sanchez the putted away. Tyreek hill waiting Bill backing up on a high spiralling kick has it at the twenty yard line runs. Right. Slips and falls at the eighteen gets back to the speed running wide. Right. "Course, the questions about Andrew luck, buddy. Bob, Kravitz W T HR dot com. Indy. Joining us in. Let's get right to it statistically Angela off to a great quarter season so far, but Bob you saw before two thousand fifteen shoulder injury. You're watching him so far this year. Have we gotten to see the old Andrew lock is this the old guy? We we did this past week where he was what forty of sixty two for four hundred sixty four yards or something along those lines four touchdowns. No interceptions. I thought the first three games he was kinda feeling his way through it trying to integrate some of the the new, you know, the new things that he's learned about how to throw a football twice. He failed to be two hundred yards in passing and games too. And. Three. I didn't think you have a lot of zip on his ball, especially against Philadelphia, but man last week against Houston. He looked like the Andrew luck who absolutely carry this team to the playoffs. Two thousand twelve thirteen fourteen in the he looked special and is going to have to be special if they're going to have any chance against doing because right now, they don't have Marlin MAC. They don't have t y Hilton. They don't have Jack Doyle, they're really really thin at the skill position spot. Do we expect him to keep getting stronger, or is this kind of what he's going to be? I mean, what do we know medically in terms of that? Well, you know, he says the beginning of the season that it's gonna it's gonna be a long process, and we've seen that you know, the first first game against Cincinnati had good numbers. But I think it was around six yards per pass attempt, which is pretty miniscule and not at all like, you know, Andrew luck. Like, and you know, the second and third games. He was not terribly. Good. The fourth game. He was terrific. I just think it's it's just a matter of growing, you know, growing back into feel uncomfortable. With with the way, he's throwing now and and getting that arm strength back. And I thought we saw we saw what we needed to see I thought against Houston in a game that they they could have won and they should have tied and they should not have lost. But that's Frank Reich doing speaking of Frank Reich. Bob, it's been half a week since his controversial fourth-down calling overtime with what twenty seven or so seconds left. What's been the reaction of the fan base to that? They like him being aggressive or was that just plain stupid. Well, in my mind, it was just plain stupid. But you know, you know, how fans are fans want you to go for it on fourth and forty seven at your own ten yard line, right and love the idea of being aggressive. My question would be if you wanted to win the game and you wanted to be so aggressive. Why not go for it on fourth and two at the Houston. Twenty five six minutes left in overtime. That was the time to be aggressive and go for it rather than having Adam Viteri kick a field goal. I mean, their defense was absolutely gas. And it wasn't a zero sum game where if you fail to score there or fail to pick up that fourth down. You know, they weren't going to go ahead and win the game almost immediately. I thought it was a ridiculous call, and I know what Frank is thinking he even pointed out to me that Doug Peterson did some crazy stuff his rookie year to try and change the culture and give give guys the idea that the coaches have complete faith in their ability to convert on those four pounds. I know what he's doing. I just think ties not as bad as the loss. And you know, if somehow they end up in a wildcard position and they finished a half game out. You know, don't come. Cry into me. I just thought that was a a silly move. I thought it was unnecessary aggressive. And you know, they had a they had about ten point four percent chance of winning that game by going for it. According to the analytic that that's not good. That's not good math, by the way. I look at it w t HR dot com columnist. Bob Kravitz make sure to follow Bob on Twitter at be Kravitz. Joining us here going deep. Dan schwartzman. NBC sports radio, of course at Foxborough Gillette stadium against the patriots. Coming off a massive win over the dolphins dominating performance for New England after the loss to Detroit as you mentioned coming in, you know, the culture very short handed the status of T Y Hilton who obviously you're gonna need to have if you're gonna try to win some games and have Angela continuous success. Is he is it just a bang-up thing is this something that can linger for a while. Well, you know with the chest. And I think I think it was a hamstring this team. It's like the year of a hamstring. Anthony Costanzo has been out all year the hamstring Marlin MAC has been out all year because of a hamstring. They have no skill position people, you know, they get Robert turban back after a four game suspension for performance enhancing drugs, and I think that will help a little bit. But I just think they're set up for for a beat down here in New England on Thursday. It's tough enough. You know, you you play on Sunday. And then you gotta travel for Thursday game. But they're so depleted and they played in an overtime game against Houston. Basically played five quarters. You know, I don't know how much they're going to have left to be honest. I just don't know how they're going to move the ball against against New England, which yeah, look they go to to every every year, and then they rip off nine or ten wins out of the next eleven or twelve games. So I think they're in a very very tough position coming in here on Thursday. Hey, Bob, real quick only about thirty seconds or so the offense of lines something the team has spent a lot of high draft picks on including quitting Nelson assess real quick their performance in the first four games. Well, I think the interior of the offensive line has been fine. The problem has been that Anthony Costanzo has been out the entire season. They don't have a right tackle that's been a revolving door. So the the problem has been the edge rushers. And it's been a lot of pressure on Andrew lock throughout this early portion of the season. There you have it. Bob, Kravitz WT HR dot com columnist AIn Foxborough Gillette stadium. Thursday night calls at the patriots. Bob, always appreciate the insight. My friend. Okay. Thank you. He's Bob Kravitz, by the way, not so popular in the Boston area because he's the one that broke the whole Deflategate story. I want to get a change your luck right here. And this is why angel is going to succeed, regardless of the fact, if that arm strength ever comes back to what it was pre shoulder injury in two thousand and fifteen reminds me Peyton Manning in this sense. He's a smart football player. Right. People talk about Andrew lock. And that he's a smart football player. He was a smart football player at Stanford. He was a smart football player advanced in high school. He was a smart football player when he got some bad throws as any rookie would make. But you saw the progression in his game. As the years went by when he kind of was bordering on being an elite player. So even if the arms shrink is not one hundred percent, he has succeeded, and here's why Peyton Manning Peyton never had great arm strength. The pay was able to kinda compromise. Because of the fact you was so he realized what he could do what he couldn't do. He understood the limitations in his game guys like Brett farve. Like once you goes down a little bit. They don't adjust. They still think they can throw the ball through a wall. Right. And he can't. Peyton Manning realize. I can't throw it like I used to. So how do I just it's like baseball players. It's pitchers. Tabatha used to throw ninety eight miles an hour people. Forgot CeCe was hurler fireballer cici's. Hit ninety ninety one eighty nine right now. But he is survived in baseball because you kind of become a jump ball pitcher. What you do you never the coroner's. You change speeds. And he go from the guy that can blow pitch by a guy to a guy. That's now nibbling corners and getting called third strikes. So Andrew luck is going to succeed regardless. Even if the skills have diminished a bit in the shoulder will never allow him to be that guy. He once was because he's smart enough to understand the limitations and he's able to adjust his game. That's why to me if you're a colts fan, you don't worry about angel moving forward. It's not going to be the worst contract in football history. Because angel is never going to be that player. Again. He will succeed. He's gonna put up big numbers. It's a Dink and dunk league. Anyway, right. I mean think about how many long passes is a quarterback truly making in the course of a game. Unless you have a tyreek hill on your team. Right or does. Shawn Jackson on your team. Most of the past is stay wire slot receivers. Getting one hundred catches a year. Eight nine ten yard routes and they get a couple more yards. The average eleven twelve yards. A catch. What football is today? So does Andrew luck had the capability of bombing a football down the field fifty sixty yards. Now if he's accurate from five to twenty five yards you can succeed for a long time in the NFL. So my whole point is this. It doesn't matter if angel luck is all the way back evangelistic adjusts his abilities to what he currently can do. He's going to have another ten years in his career and be successful. So I don't worry about angel moving forward. Regardless of the fact is the Armstrong Bank, backer. Now. That's the big question. Everybody seems to have. All right. Let's get into this game coming up at Foxboro are the patriots truly back after that dominant performance over the dolphins or shoe still worry about what we saw week before that against Detroit next Gandhi. "What was the the number one misstep for the culture yesterday near the colts lose the Super Bowl champs? Twenty two sixteen on the road. The number one reason the colts lost that game yesterday. Chain inefficient offense finishing off drives five trips in the red zone. And only came away with one touch down to you. To a great opportunities that your defense. Help you help really set up the offense some terrific field position. But I'd only come away with sixteen points when you have five guys in the red doubt that's not gonna lead to a win. And certainly not on the road against the defending super will change was certainly you've recovered two fumbles didn't commit any turnovers. And you still lose the game was was sort of inexplicable to me. You started your is after those two fumbled with the thirteen seventeen. You could not have asked for better field position. Now, you can call today. Great against Washington the week before they were perfectly read down. But if you look at the losses this year, you know, I know the defense was not great at all in week one. But they still bid enough thought for you to maybe when that game they certainly not yesterday. And that's the biggest surprise to me. We it's a wanted to football team. That's not too shocking. But the fact that the defense is done the heavy lifting and the offense held you back. That is a surprise to me Kevin hammer here. How do you feel Andrew luck is progressing three games into his comeback here? Now, I have a feeling the Andrew lucked the coal plants are going to see in November is going to be substantially different than the one. They've seen already. But a lot of people have a problem with the fact that he came out for the hail Mary attempt and Twitter was starting to explode with that. Does he have the juice in the arm to stretch out? The defense is right now. I don't have an issue with them being taken out to the hell Mary. But I do have an issue with just the inconsistency. We are seeing down the field throws. Frank writes in this new offense. It was going to be a lot more underneath stuff. And you weren't going to have maybe as many shots down the field, the sixteen in prior years, but you know, when those patches have been attempted in there haven't been many there just hasn't been the same sort of success rate that you've had in past years, the culture one of the worst teams right now in the NFL and finding chump poise via the past. I think the only five passes of more than twenty yards on. It's kind of crazy Carson elected Andrew lucked both had twenty five completions yesterday, but went through for ninety one more yard and to me. I'm not sitting here. Saying to be chuckling at forty fifty yards down the field. Even those throws just go fifteen or twenty yards down the field. I'm just not seen. What I what I what I need to be seeing out of walk in terms of maybe it's a little bit more on the block sneak scale or just honestly completing passes. A little bit deeper, and I can tell you that until you prove that defense. They're going to continue to cheat up and kinda give you maybe a couple of shots down the field until you can prove that you can hit all that. Kevin Bowen from ten seventy the fan joining us here on the hammer and Nigel show suitca be the Steelers. It sounds like they're making bell available. Now, a lot of people say the colts could be one of those teams willing to make a deal. What say you? Well, I I'd be shocked at the Steelers moved him to an AFC. You know, when you are going to make a trade of that. Daniel Ness, if you will. Moved to an AFC team. I if you're gonna move franchise side player you're trying to get him out of the top. And so I'll be surprised to Pittsburgh stating conference Nabokov have caps that really know their team. So I think that's why we're seeing some of the talk and obviously the running back to vision is a collision of need. But. You don't love it. I don't love investing that much money to them to a long term deal for a guy that has taken as many hits. And we'll be seven years old in February and the cult of invested a little bit in the running back group here in the past couple drafts. Three draft picks in the first five rounds so running back the need, but given the levian bell kind of ancient running style. This run game is not need patient runner that there aren't many holes. To choose from. There's no patient needed running back. If a guy that finds the personal and hopes you can get three or four yards. Then you move on to the next block. Also gotta remember circling around to the game yesterday. We're without. Anthony Costanzo you're up Jack Doyle, we're onto the third string running back still some injuries to deal with here as we wrap it up here k beef about thirty seconds. Yeah. And then Joe, hey went down starting right? Tackle concert conference. Call with Frank, right? Joe? Hey will be out a couple of weeks. So wonderful. Update. Where's Anthony Costanzo? Kevin. I didn't give any update. I would be a little bit surprised that we solved this John Doe on Sunday. I think given the multiple tweets I think he needs a week before week of practice before he comes back. I think he's more over return guy that has Kevin Bowen from ten seventy the fan. "Philadelphia is a lot high. Right. All right. Let's start with this. It was kind of ugly. But it was a weird. How'd you feel about the victory by the birds yesterday? That's pretty well. Describes it. It's no nobody's going to dispute. The fact that was ugly. Right. But I thought that Wentz look for his first game back wins. Look, really good. And the defense played the form, you know, when they're when they're playing at home. They're good, and they're really good keeping people out of the end zone. So in that respect, it was you know, it was it was kinda. Yeah. I think I think once was better was probably better than people thought he was going to be view and about the defense played good. And considering the fact that they're missing so many players on offense. I thought it was a, you know, again, it was not it was not a pretty win. But it was it was a necessary win and overall I think you're you're looking at a team, that's probably only gonna get better. You figure went is going to get better from this point. And you're going to start getting some players back and things will improve. But to be two and one at this point. I think they were pretty good shape. Absolutely now. Let me start with the red zone defense because that's probably the number one team in the game. They won the game on that red zone defense. We were Jacqueline last week Ray with the stat that the eagles have given up twenty seven points a game last two years on the on the road, but twelve at home, I'm watching it yesterday, and I'm going. Wow. The fans have a lot to do with that that lasts Dr real was there. She said the whole place was was saying. The fans are having an effect on those red zone defensive series, aren't they? No question. I mean, that's not all of it. But that's a big part of it is the the communication aspect when they're playing especially when they get down to that. And get down to around the ten yard line and the crowd. They're really at that closed end the field. It's it's really hard to hear it. It's really hard to hear free or or the offensive side. And it gives you a defensive lineman a jump. I mean, they're they're coming off the ball quicker than they offensive linemen are and it limits. The amount of time amount of plays that a quarterback can make in terms of audible audibly and changing the call and doing some things at the line of scrimmage. So it sorta handcuffs the offense and it gives the defense a decided advantage and the eagles the eagles. Take advantage of it all the time. Yeah. That's that's. And when when Schwartz met the press this week that subject came up because they they presented them. This the numbers, you know, the difference in points allowed at home versus points allowed on the road. And the first thing you said was, you know, the the crowd noise. And the advantage that we have at the link is is a big big part of it. I agree with them dark Bornet, right? We saw glimpses in his rookie year. We're seeing more of it. Now. Can he be rare? We talking here about a potential Pro Bowl. Oh, I think so. Yeah. Draft a guy in the first round. And he's by no means a sleeper. I mean, everybody knew who Derek Barnett was I mean, the expectation was he was going to come in to the NFL play right away. And in pretty short order be a guy that was either in a pro baller challenging for a Pro Bowl. And I think he's going to get there. Yeah. It and yesterday was his best yesterday was probably his most impactful game so far. But I kind of I kind of expected it, you know, he was going up against a backup tackle the normal guy out there Anthony Costanzo who's normally they're left tackle is out with an injury. So he was going up against the got anymore raven Clark who's a who's a backup. And I figured he would win that battle. And and and he did. And of course, he won the battle on the biggest play of the game. I was it was that the biggest play I want to offer you another biggest black. All right. We'll have a little debate about this. Because I think the biggest play was this one here. I have to get to.

Also some NFL stuff because we have earlier storylines and maybe most compelling stories here in two thousand eighteen. And you ask the question, who is this year's Rams? And we've got a couple of candidates. Somebody actually hit me up on Twitter at Michalis. They said the Niners. I mean, that's a pretty good one solid pretty good one. A lot of people excited about the quarterback situation there with Jimmy Garoppolo and some of the things they've done the last couple of years. Did you bring up Jacksonville as a team out of nowhere from last year? I did. They were with the with the Rams. Yeah. Yes, they they were that team, so we need somebody that wasn't a team lashing. You also hit up mad on Twitter. As well at ma- very. But before we get to all that we want to go out to Indianapolis and talk a little bit more about Andrew luck. Mike wells are ESPN coach report has been hold on that beat for couple years actually used to cover the Pacers there in India's. Well, he joins us now here on the Stephen, a Smith show, Mike, what's up man, how you doing. What's going on as your guests. Like Mr. multi-diverse towel, superstar, man. You do a little of everything and you see my wife right? come on out kicking that covers there, but I'm not mad at Amen. Handbags shoes. I got paid for that boss, like doing. Very do double system. You've seen his wife. Ashley berries Instagram and see what we Blaine over. We'll go on her closet. You'll get anxiety. Closet is another bedroom. Story. Matt, you guys there, hey, Mike, appreciate you join us. Men. We're talking earlier about Andrew luck and even with Adam Schefter earlier and clearly what we saw last night a little bit of rust here or there, but some throws he made was the Andrew luck we've been accustomed to, but we did not see we're throws down the field twenty yards. And plus from the people that you've talked to within the organization may be Andrew luck himself. Is that all part of the process that they put in place for him to get him ready for that season opener. That is Mike Lynn, you know, talked about it after the first preseason game and Seattle on August ninth. He said he was not at the comfort level as far as you know, going deep down a field. He said he felt more comfortable with short and intermediate throws. So I asked him over the weekend if he was ready to take that next step, can't he make every store every throw possible and a game. And he says, I am totally comfortable making those throws, but Frank Reich, the new head coach, he's keeping everything very, very, very, very, very vanilla when it comes to what they're trying to do offense. They don't wanna show too much and you can't forget. They were without left tackle Anthony Costanzo. He's the veteran of that offense of line..

"Is in. The air Last, night what a, difference man Monday night football. Trueblue Monday night football back we had the dress rehearsal last week towards. The end of the week we. Got to see the booth we got to see Joe test the hitman Boettger, Whitten all those guys activated but something about seeing him, on, Homebase actual Monday night. Football colts ravens last. Night it just felt right it just felt like home And that's good that feeling was there because, boy oh boy that was bad ball that was sloppy preseason football last night turnover filled a of penalties some of which yes are the helmet penalties that everyone's. So enjoyed I think we had two last night, as we keep the running tally of those going, it really is Allie mentioned, it yesterday and? I, think it holds, true the NFL I wonder. If there's a small part of them visit least happy that people are. Mad at them about football stuff. This year and not about some misconstrued protest that's been bastardized along the way, throughout this process so you've actually got people mad about, football, again which may be. A step in the. Right direction but last night They had, reason to kind of be mad. In general because it. Really wasn't a. Great game overall last night now the. Best part of the game last night in our understanding that this is going to happen in the preseason and that you have a lot of let's say undercard performers on the table because. That's the problem in the preseason you've got starters that might be airing more on the side of caution t. Y Hilton nursing a little bit, of a, shoulder injury from this week Anthony Costanzo, the starting left tackle was out last night so. You had some different bodies in their rookie Brandon Smith starting on. The offensive line a bunch of things to factor into the colts that lead to not. The best ball but we did get, the return none other than Colonel Andrew luck. Yet again is second preseason game back now I, home game for Andrew luck and five hundred plus days saw the stat last night and it's just good to hear him again every time I hear Andrew luck. Again at this point I'm reminded why we missed, him so much because this guy has the ability. When I hear Think of a, lot of quarterbacks in the, NFL I think of guys that say nothing like I think of Russell Wilson and Tom, Brady these guys that literally sound. Like nothing when I. Hear them because. They're not giving us anything usually of. Any real value or interest Andrew luck not that much different content wise but just his voice alone brings me so much joy Andrew luck last night talking with our own Lisa Saulters on. "And if they had an a player on the edge of premier player on the edge that will kind of close the loop where they would have players at every level of the defense, they felt really good at whether it's the interior of the defensive line with Leonard Williams. The off ball linebacker. Darren Lee, a corner and Tremaine Johnson the safeties and Marcus may and Jamal Adams. So the jets will be one of those teams that I would keep an eye on to. But again, remember if you're one of those teams looking to pry Khalil Mack from Oakland. It's not just going to cost you. A draft picks us also gonna cost you a contract because he's only got one year left on his deal. And if you're willing to give up premium draft capital, get them, you're not doing that for just one year. And so the combination of draft picks and contract, it's just that I think is going to be it's it's an open question how much the raiders are going to be able to ask for if they were ever to get to the point where they were going to trade him because you're not just asking the other team to do one of those, although you only benefit from one of those your implicitly asking the team to do both those things. Okay. Question four. This is from Tom o. at tomah one to one who were the best rookie offensive lineman. You saw in your travels. Sometimes it's tough to judge that, but I would tell you that. I think that Quinton Nelson has a chance to be all pro as a rookie the same way. Another. Notre Dame guys. Zack Martin was for the Dallas Cowboys in two thousand fourteen. They feel like he is red. Ready to play out of the box than here's what's interesting about him. You can see where the where things are just going to be different French luck this year in the potential of their young offensive lineman. He's not the only rookie the only how you drafted rookie vying for playing time. There's also a high second rounder, Brandon Smith from Auburn in there who could play the guard or tackle think about this. If you are the colts you go from having an offensive line that was a as been a dumpster fire over the last few years. It's been really a problem right to potentially having four top forty picks starting for you. Anthony Costanzo at left tackle Brayden Smith guard or tackle Quinton Nelson at guard, and then Ryan Kelly at center. So you could potentially be looking at a much different offensive line or much different level of offense of on than you've had in the past. And it'd be really interesting to see how much better that makes. And. Luck because we've talked so much about their deficiency there when discussing luck over the last couple of years. Question number five from dean Osborne, why is the Commissioner being so quiet about the anthem issue, the new helmet rules and the gambling issue somewhere along the line over the last few years, the league made a conscious decision to put the Commissioner out there less. That's why he took so much criticism when he said he's available to the media every day, there was a PR decision made that we are going to limit the amount of times that he's available that we're going to put them up the podium. We're gonna limit what we do with him in a one on one setting. So you don't hear on talk a lot publicly in general, and I don't think that that relates to the anthem issue or the helmet rules are the gambling stuff. I just think it's the way that he's been managed the last couple of years. So we were plenty plenty critical of the Commissioner during the during during our new segment, I would tell you that I don't think that this is really breaking stride from what they were doing anyway..

"Think from Seattle side. Chris. Carson look good. Of course. He looks good always in the preseason, and we haven't talked about on this podcast, but he has been the starting running back throughout training camp over Rashad penny the first. Round pick. They're also playing Trey flowers, a rookie cornerback as a starter right now, he played the, there's another trae flowers and the leaders another trae flowers except no, why in the end of trae so they have, they have more starting jobs open, I think than any other team in the league right now running back wide receiver, a lot of their offense of lines, some of the defensive line that's Carol likes like cornerback he does and then the colts the colts. One quick thing is just that keeping they've lost their left tackle Anthony Costanzo. They're playing Matt Haig. Joe Haden, rather at left tackle, who's their backup center who was playing center. Most of the game left taco for part of it. They picked up jamarcus. Web luck got sacked when he blew a block and so that you do get a little worried that it's like same old coats. They also lost Marlin. MAC went down in Dion, Kane, left of the injury, just injuries to monitor when you say they lost Costanza it's at hamstring injuries. Not like they lost him for the season. No, but he missed almost the entire off season with that. Hamstring injury got activated, and then got hurt two days layers. So he has been coming back from that for about six months. And that's if I'm colts fan. That freaks me out because they don't really have a backup and Phillip Walker Edita, tenure touchdown, pass to Daryl Daniels early in the fourth quarter. They needed it Indianapolis held on for nineteen seventeen win. And that's a big win. If you can go relance if you can go on the road to the clink and come out with a victory, that's how you get your preseason started off correctly in the momentum to carry you through the next three week finished. And I know I know this this is. is this is not the same as I understand it, but when you can go into Seattle, you make a state? Well, the thing about the pres. It's kind of like college football almost boiled down even further. It's like every game matters because when your own one, your season's almost over for the Seahawks their backs are right now against the wall. They only two game season needed. It's. There quarter of the way to infamy. All right. Moving on the sky, go bears and Cincinnati. Bengals played football and west. I'm going to tear up again here because I know you are a lapsed Catholic also a lapse Bengals fan. So I wanted to see you often laugh at the Bengals and putrid offense last season, but this team for the pick six. This team looks like they're going to be able to move the ball, yes or no. I would use recovered rather than lapsed in both of those instances. But yes, the Bengals offense look good. The pick six came on a plane which John Ross slipped and fell and would not have been an interception. Otherwise, that's not even. That's just bad luck. That's not even Andy Dalton doing anything wrong. So to me, they moved the ball. Well, John Ross look good. Joe mixing had a play, a touchdown where he slipped a tackled at a spin move, slipped another tackle and got into for the score. This, this looks like a much better offense. Than last year. It's almost like you look around the entire AFC north and Pittsburgh is gonna stay obviously what they are, but I thought the Bengals ravens last year had obvious issues on offense, and we're tough to watch at times. Cleveland wasn't raging disaster. All three teams of the all of those three teams. And they have see north have a lot more going on offense. It feels like a division that's going to produce another three playoff teams base that entirely on preseason games from last night. And the offense of Lyon, the combination of those two improving, which I think they both will changes everything for in the rest of the team. My one bears takeaway. I'm not sure exactly what this means, but Kevin white was targeted twice on the opening drive. So maybe they're seeing him as a guy who has a chance to start Mitchell. Trubisky didn't play in the first week. They had one negative one yard in eight plays with him on the field..

"To. End the day Royal spa Matt Taylor is the. Voice of the Indianapolis Colts you can catch him. On television later on tonight ten, o'clock, kick-off out in Seattle Matt's what can? We look forward to tonight Yeah I mean obviously the headliner the marquee. Reason why a lot of people are going to be tuning in is the Andrew. Luck obviously you know the return of number twelve NFL game field hammer. It's been you, know five hundred and eighty five days nineteen months? His last game was January first twenty seventeen so he's going to be the marquee reason why a lot of people tune. In we think Andrew luck is gonna play about a quarter tonight with that I team offense and that's another story line, is what is, this offense is gonna look like, with Frank Reid is going to be our first. Chance to see this offense on the field I don't know if it's. Going to be the full version of what we, can expect to see in the regular season but you know maybe a little bit up tempo the ball. Coming out quicker from Andrew lucked hands these are some of the things we've. Been hearing all training camp long some of the, things we've been seeing so intermixing the new. Talent around Andrew luck is something I'm going to. Be watching out for as well was fine Cranston. Chester Rogers and Eric Hebron who, came, over in free agency as well so Offensive leaders a lot to watch out for in obviously. On the defensive, in to I mean you could have up. To. As many, as nine, new starters on defense twenty eighteen of new. Linebackers Howard the colts gonna get after the. Quarterback that's going to be an issue all see them all for the first time. Tonight so plenty of storylines and I think a lot of reasons for. Folks tonight Matt, unless you're a die hard fan of what goes? On in the trenches very few people tune into an NFL game to see what an offensive lineman does but we were. Talking the last couple of days here on the show I'm excited I'm really looking forward to watching Quinton Nelson beat the, hell out of, some people because I think this, could very well be the start of a good. Ten year proble s run on that colts offensive line the night yeah. I mean all the paper the colts have they've. They've invested a lot of resources and have done a lot of good things ups on the offense sublime. And you look at the left side of that often said wine you've got. Three A former first round picks and Anthony Costanzo and Ryan Kelly Nelson like you talked about he was the sixth. Overall pick he was the highest gar taken in the. NFL. Draft since, nineteen eighty six, despite the best offensive. Lineman and the interior come out in the last fifteen or sixteen years that saying and he has certainly. Backed that up with what we've seen so far camp and I. Agree with you I it seems like the colts have had their struggles upfront lately. You. Know they gave up six acts last season hopefully they're going to turn that. Leaky faucet off in two thousand eighteen and I think when Nelson won't be a, big part, of it now Anthony Costanzo will not play. Tonight ninety doing. With a hamstring injury so we. Think Joe Hayden is gonna start at left tackle but I still think you're going to get a pretty good idea of, how this goes often some wine has been training together and trying to cut down on the mistakes the pressures. In the sacks that has been so prevalent the last handful of years you know Andrew luck getting. Rid of the ball quicker plus he's had he just has a better understanding I think of this offense that he had in the minicamp and. Then he's continued that. On and training camp so far. I think you're going to see the Sachin the pressures go way down inherently by the way the colts, play plus I think the personnel upfront on the offensive line has been drastically improved chatting with Matt Taylor he's going to have to call tonight ten pm. On the TV screen for Are you as the colts take. On Seattle in. The preseason opener Matt I think. One of the things that's kind of being overshadowed here as everybody's talking about Andrew locks first game back in a long, time quitting Nelson's first game in the NFL this is also Frank Reich's first time taking the sideline as an. Indianapolis Colts head coach for those who aren't you know completely all in on the background of Frank. Reich what kind of a play caller what kind of coach is thank you Pretty from. A personality standpoint he is very cool he's very chill and collected nothing seems, to rattle him he's he's a lot like Tony dungee in that regard where he's got kind of the same. Demeanor whether they're up by forty are down by forty never too high never. Too low you certainly players coach in, in some regards because he did play the game he he knows what, these guys are going through but. He has ramped up to competition and he's ramped up the physical. Nature of camp I don't know how much your audience has been paying attention to colts, camp. But it's been a much physical much more physical camp than we've been used to the last handful of years I think the culture practice, eleven times so far and two of. Those practices they weren't allowed to be, in pads but out of the rest of those practices have been forego, not forego, but they've been in full pads they've had some, four wide contact drills and and? Moments in practice and I think you That I think this team needs. To, Spar they, need, to they need to practice how they're going to play and they're trying to change the. Culture on how they. Play a much more physical. Much more nasty team heading. Into the season with this new regime of Frank Reich and from a play caller standpoint he's very, aggressive you know the foot is always on the, gas pedal he's. A very innovative. Coach looks looks to just game plan for that particular weekend and tried to. Beat the opponent for that that specific we'd and, he will leave no stone unturned and he's going to be creative and I think this. Offense is gonna be a lot more exciting than what we've been used to, last couple of years and there's a ton of new playmakers like I talked about with Iran and t. y.. Hilton coming back and Chester Rogers and Ryan granted there's a lot of new. Faces for colts fans to learn and, get excited about Kenny with Matt Taylor the TV voice of the Indianapolis, Colts not before we let you. Go obviously you know Nigel we're to radio nerd that grew up. In Indianapolis and use To work in this building as. Well you were a Jayme vs, sidekick and producer. For a, long time and on behalf of Nigeria I. I think it's just really cool to see the way your career has progressed you took this gig and you took the Indianapolis. Colts job, and tonight you're on the call for an, NFL game I mean you have. To be excited because that's a really big deal I appreciate it yeah I mean I am excited you know this is, this is sort of something I've been working towards up and looking forward to you know last year I got the chance to call. The, fourth preseason game against the Bengals and then you know they gave me the opportunity to to take over, the reins this year which I'm really, pumped for you know it's still. Doing, all the, radio, stuff with the Indianapolis Colts that sort of my primary gig So I have. Had a chance to call a game on, the radio side now the TV. Side so yeah I mean I don't? I certainly don't take it for granted it's? It's a privilege it's an honor and you know it's I crept a lot and we'll we'll. Try, to do the broadcast Justice looking forward to it and like I said I. Mean there's so many new faces on this colts team I, mean there's seventy guys into never played a game with. And so, I think for a lot of fans are going to be. Tuning in for. The, first time, trying to figure. Out who, these guys are and what the role is gonna be for next season so my job, tonight is, try to give you some anecdotes and help people learn who these guys are because, some of these rookies, and first time caller you're gonna play big roles in two thousand eighteen, beyond star you're sitting on, any over, the top cheesy catchphrases breakout after a touchdown tonight is there any boom goes the dynamite any Anything like that, we can look forward to my. Goal is to not be a YouTube? Sin Do you know what. I mean like just keep it cool keep it chill let let things unfold Be organic things happen, naturally I think, people will tell you if you have those things kind. Of ready to go walking loaded your gun they don't come out the way you want. Them to and that's when you that's when you. Become. Like a Twitter gift for.

2018 NFL training camp preseason players to watch

"A few more days of practice Head of them still and the latest is Anthony Costanzo and the way that coach. Reich kinda describes the injury to Costanzo is Oh it he had it and he's got it back and he's gonna There's. Gonna be some rest right he's gonna. Need a little bit of time. It's as vague as. Anything, out. There I'm wondering about Costanza 's future tell me I'm wrong Yeah Tony I I don't know about in terms of long term but I think. It's something to monitor the, rest? Of the that it'd be the first injured. Hamstring about two weeks before training camp. Started and then re tweaked it. During Friday night practice It's. Been really really durable NFL career he's only miss three games, maybe since his rookie season it's eleven and he looked, at positions on the colts. Roster and talk about depth I think left tackle might be, the most bear and unproven position on the roster so Dongo's bend your left tackle for the last seven years and he's going to miss a little bit of. Time, and, that, is very vague and maybe he doesn't play the, rest of the pre season but you would think just a tweaking of a hamstring he would be able to go by the regular season opens up here in a little over a month So you don't see it as a serious thing when you take a, look at the injuries that he had last year No, he was hoping last year two years ago think or maybe even the year before that when he was heard so I I don't. Think it's anything to fret over long term why. This is a guy that has been extremely extremely durable in bell career That guy wanting the, blind side of you know Through that awful twenty eleven so you end up through Angeles early. Years in these past couple of years as well I don't think it's anything that. It's a reoccurring injury that happened for several years maybe came back a little bit too soon, from that hamstring injury and and he openly. Admitted he kinda. Over trained in the off season so rest stuff you don't. Need a Santa Costanza in the month of August you need to see some of these other guys play left tackle in case this does become a lingering issue talking to. Kevin Bowen from ten seventy the fan dot com that's where you go to get all of. His latest on what's going on a training camp one of the things I noted is that when it comes to running back where, a little bit, of everywhere and nowhere on here we've, got MAC I think people are happy with him. But you, need a, little bit of that day Angela shoulder maybe better, but he still needs to hand off the ball who is he handing off to and, what are we seeing a lot of young guys Tony with Robert Turbin suspended for the first, four games James Andrew lock arguably I think the top three running back to the roster none, of them have, played with lock when you talk about, Marlin MAC going into the second season the mid. Rookies and, I am, highs and Jordan Wilkins as well and Jim Irsay, had quite hyperbole on Friday night saying that he thinks Marlee Matlin rush for fifteen hundred, yards this season I don't know if anyone in for Is He has his, bell Donald Trump of, sports just don't let them tweet Did he tweet which one was it he said it yeah. Said that we have three hundred and fifty yards rushing all last year so that's that's quite the jump for the second year back and especially. On the colts have said they want to be running back by committee so I think there are some young pieces to work with with MAC and what Jordan Wilkins the fifth round pick, out of night's camp, and I kind of bored More of a hybrid player probably help you out on special teams maybe a wide out as well so that's really really. Unproven and when roster cuts happen and the end of August you know you might be a decision that you look for more of a, more of a veteran objects I. Do think there, is something. To work with their but if the group they just, hasn't proved, themselves on the NFL level quite yet as you see it so far as in training camp Who is the player that we should be looking at and who's the player who you think is causing the most concern But I. Think a player that's really, surprises then the Niko Autry new defensive lineman signed from Oakland this past season. Back in March, I think one of the I think it was the first free, agent signing, McColl patio in, twenty eighteen and you know when you're talking about quit Nelson and how dominant the rookies ban, you know in full pads the guy that have occasionally been Autry and. The colts need some help with this new four three Friday and, Autry I think could be kind of a nice surprise I. Think that a guy that you feel, good about concern standpoint I'd probably go back into the secondary and go Quincy Wilson the second round pick some last year Who figure to be. Maybe the number one cornerback a corner in. General I think as a physician group that hasn't had a lot of play making here. In the first couple of, weeks at grand park and they're rotating a lot of bodies there doesn't look. Like many documents, in terms of starters and that group so they need Quincy Wilson, to a, merge because you, spent a second round pick on them you know we know full well how valuable corners are, today that I Sal and the colts just don't have a lot to. Work with with that you know kind of really a it's of, your top four corners I would say three of them are..

I asked our resident bear fan? STAN Lear tell, me about jamarcus web. Is this a good pickup stance at absolutely said. He's not real bright you make some boneheaded play from time to, time he accidentally sacked his own quarterback at one point. With the bears but it's definitely a guy you want in the field so. I, will, take the gospel? From Stanley earned run with that right there okay? So, but what's this tell you. About Anthony Costanzo picking this guy up well. I think we'll be back he's on the pup list with a Hammy what I'm reading from the colts on their official website was that another tackle was. Injured and he's going to be. Placed on the season ending injury west so this is just more depth but I think a good Up for the. Colts can't get enough linemen Asked me colts training. Camps going on in grand park right now Andrew luck starting to look better starting. To get that timing down a little. I talk to you guys next and have improved go to bed tonight saying I did this and I got better, and that's Andrew, luck so sounds like he's going to be speaking to, the media on a weekly basis okay that's information we'll take it moving along time without. Underway at grand Park New colts head coach Frank, Reich said Andrew luck, is expected to play not only in practice. But the preseason opener coming up against the Seahawks. On August ninth, that's up in Seattle how you feel. About that If it's. Only a series I'm okay with it because that's what most starting quarterbacks do in the preseason may starting quarterbacks that, have been injured, for two years almost yeah that's the way it works, kind of opening gay man it's just a series I'm full I'm all for him not. Seen an out to action Season-opener I don't know man I. Get, a few reps maybe game two or three right you'd. Be all right with. That if. He sat out the entire opener I'm good with it The last game. I'm good way back maybe? A couple of running, plays, maybe a couple of screen passes in the air and, not? Looking for him to stay there. In the pocket for thirty seven you, know what I mean Well does it make you feel any better that Anthony Costanzo the colts big tackles going to start training. Camp on the pup list That doesn't explain to people what that is but no. That doesn't maybe be physically unable to perform list they said he should be ready for opening day and all that kind of stuff I texted are Powell Kevin Bowen who covers. The coal to, ten seventy the fan because the colts put out the statement? That said he was on the non football injury. List so I thought what does that mean that he get drunk and fall off. One of those. Are wagging things driving around downtown now he injured a hamstring. While training on his own wasn't at the, football facility so that's why, so it's a Hammy injury, should, be back before too long but let's hear from the colts head coach Frank Reich about Andrew lucked and it's all systems go Yeah no I mean when he practices these forego there's, no restrictions so there you heard that right there no restrictions full..

"Look at what they've done since then in the draft it's basically franchise my practice i mean they bought the house without the homeowner's insurance they've only taken one offense of lime in the first four years of his career with a high pick which is second round or better so the fact that they've addressed it draft ryan kelly a few years ago they'll get him back from injury they drafted quinton nelson out of notre dame this year that's gonna help they're going to fortify that guards and guard combination to go along with anthony costanzo at the left tackle it's going to be a much better offensive line arguably the best offensive line andrew luck has had since he's been in the nfl so i think that's where it starts for me for this team to get back to success in andrew luck to get back to playing the level of football that we want him see can't you make some some good points and i think as a fan you need to realize how important the psyche of an athlete is even though he might be great or might have been great what he has done of late will be on his mind is no different than steph curry when he was in a shooting slump i'm sure he was shooting thousands of balls off the out of the game and then and to it went in in the game that's when it finally click and what peyton is talking about people forget painting miss the whole year so he understands what andrew is getting ready to go through so he's talking about that positive of knowing i got my fastball i can fire in eighteen yard comeback i can put some loft on cover two if they go down to sideline or go down the middle if i get a blitz read someone out of the out of the middle of the defense i can throw to my back i know all these things that i've done before but i haven't done them lately man sports is about repetition repetition repetition so much that when you get under the gun that you can repeat what you've done in practice that's what it's all about in peyton no one has mastered that better than him so his information he.
