"Let's learn a little bit more about the Cincinnati Bengals in two thousand nineteen from the host of the Orange and black podcast Anthony Costanza joining us in the Sports Anthony. How are you? How are you doing yeah Anthony? It's gene endanger here. We sound alike so anthony what tap gosh who's closer here. The version of the bengals is the team that probably should have won that game in Seattle or is it the team that got whacked last week. Tell us who are the Real Cincinnati bengals heading to buffalo well. That's still a question remaining to be answered and that's a question that I think both the e man it's fan base or I is asking itself right now. I think a lot of people people if you were to ask that locker room after the week one result if you'd ask some of those players I think they would have said hey this what we're capable of. We've been telling you this all off season and and then if you were to kind of fall the fan base after week two that's kind of what the fan base would have told you. This is what we expected to see probably a struggle of a year for the bengals so personally elite speaking. I think it's probably somewhere in between I have long said that this is a team that is probably better in terms of a record standpoint that they were last year when they weren't six games and had a massive amount of injuries. I don't think this is a team. That is a double digit win by any stretch. you know probably something that caps out at eight or nine wins especially if and when somebody's critical players come back at Anthony One thing that has changed from last year to this year's head coaching coaching Zack Taylor looks to be getting more out of this offense although it's still kind of short on talent with Aj Green still being on on the sidelines sidelines with that bad foot. I'm curious to what you've seen out of Andy Dalton through two weeks of Zack Taylor regime and we always talk about the assumption of Rational coaching my God you have speedster. That's actually getting used in the passing game and John Ross talked about the bengals offense through two weeks while the run game has been atrocious and that is a much part of the offensive line. There are a number you know you mentioned. Aj Green being out of the lineup back Taylor has done a good job of being able to concoct passing teams that played Andy Dalton ranks he is I believe the second leading passer in the NFL and turn passing yardage right now. Andy Dalton is so oh he's he's getting the ball out. The short intermediate routes quite frequently was timing route. kind of growing dies open quote unquote. If you WANNA use that these these are things that played Andy Dalton Frank and I think exact Taylor has done a good job of bat now what they haven't been able to do is utilize play action cable the properly sell that that because of the struggles of the office of wine they've led up. I believe it's been eight or nine DAX. The first few weeks combined no Joanna Williams the number eleven overall pick by the bengals E torries labour them early in the in the spring summer so he's been out. Hopefully he'll be back later in the year. They had him late to be left tackle but he's out the guy who was lashing at left tackle and who had been slated to move inside the guard but then it over at left tackle for Joan Williams forty glad you guys are familiar with him. He's been out the first two weeks with a concussion still dealing with that last week the Bengals to guard Michael Jordan Rookie to a knee the injury though it has been an absolute mess on the offensive line. It's activities have a lot to a lot to deal with on that front. He's making it work in the past asking but not so much on the ground and he sends a he's the host of the orange and Black Hawk cast year nine Fran the Dalton year nine. I mean Anthony. How many more years can you give this guy without any playoff victories or I mean is this what are the chances that he becomes a later day rich Gannon in an figures it out winds meaningful playoff games at Anthony? What are your thoughts on Andy Dalton and where the future lies that position for the Cincinnati bengals while L? I interpreted the question of rich Canon and kind of a late late career renaissance. I think that that's the hope with Dalton being married now to that Taylor's the head coach. I think that you know the hope is that you know. Dalton has been guy for the first eight seasons. He's been under a defensive minded head coach. Marvin Lewis a guy who was he's known as kind of a rigid old school. you know defensive. I type of Guy Not really the most innovative mind in terms of offense that they the hope is that you know some of these things that Taylor is bringing to the table is going to light a new fire underage dot and then have him playing while in suspects is playing his best football of his career in others. It's a lot of the same up in ups and downs that you seen for Mandy throughout his career career. you know I think there is a lot of unrest amidst the fan base and in terms of the quarterback position I think they see some of the prospects aspects that are going to be coming out and twenty twenty twenty twenty one in those drafts and I think they would like to see the bengals potentially make a blue for one of those guys obviously this front office probably even Zach Taylor you'll pretty good at least for the time being with with Andy Dalton because they had opportunities to draft a quarterback back this year and they did not do that. they waited all the way until the fourth round to get a quarterback in Ryan Finley who's now Andy don't back up so the team him at least for now feels pretty good. He's he's getting a lot of a lot of money but it's actually you know no guarantees so the team could cut ties with doll neither official if they wanted to do it or even next year and not really pay any penalties so I think for now they've got him on a team friendly deal at at worst. He's a bridge guy for the next. You're too maybe he does have that career. Renaissance like you mentioned with rich Gannon but remains to be seen now with fourteen games left a year and a patchwork offensive line anthony with an offensive minded head coach in Cincinnati and Zack Taylor what's going on with the defense. We know that they haven't been very good against the run which actually when you factor factor that the bills may be down Devon Single Terry that might that might actually improve a little bit they might look a little bit better trying to stop Frank Gore and TJ yelled and talk about the Bengals bengals defense through two weeks of the season so that was probably the biggest pleasant surprise in week. One against Seattle is how angles defense play they really stifled the seahawks offense. I think the seahawks had just under two hundred fifty total yards on offense. I think about forty or so on the ground so you they really played well as I spoke to some people who are pretty familiar with only niners after this week's game at during the game it had been made known that Kyle Shanahan in a handsaw some things on film to exploit the bengals defense what Seattle done in week one is basically kind of run right at the bengals defense right up the middle and the linebackers that the bengals employ have limitations but they were able to make the plays in week one on that front in week to San Francisco really spread the ball out us a lot more sweeps in and outside zone run a lot of screen passes and you could see the limitations of the Bengals linebackers in terms of lateral federal way in sideline to sideline feet or lack thereof so I think that that's kind of weak area of the bangles in terms of their defense. They obviously have a couple of very good players on the defensive lines. You Know Acting Sam Hubbard's been playing well Carlos Dunlap so they've got some good players players up front. The safeties were very very good last year but they are currently ranked as two of the worst safeties by pro football focus metrics so that's been a bit surprising in terms of their regression overall again still trying to figure out who they are very good week one performance absolutely atrocious too performance. They've got a lot of things to clean up. Buffalo Bills six point favorites in their home opener against Cincinnati our guest is the host of the Orange Black podcast on the ESPN network. Anthony Cosenza Kneza Anthony going back to the year of the bengals on hard knocks. Remember watching and Gosh this team plays underneath a freeway a- and the reputation that that Mike Brown has had over the years the bengals still have this reputation of being cheap. Is this an owner. That's doing everything he needs to do to make sure that his franchise is competing at the highest level well. That's a loaded question. There you know I it depends on who you ask right you know a lot of people would say look. The Bangles are team. They've told you who they are. In terms of their free agency approach they like to say like the draft develop and keep their key players a lot of time they before their key players hit free agency they extend them too big lucrative contracts that's why they've hung onto Gino Atkins and potential hall of fame player for as long as they have Carlos Dunlap one of their best defensive ends. They've ever had a franchise. He's basically a lifelong Bangel aged aged green the list goes on and on there but when you look at some of the way the perennial championship teams operate when you look at the way hey that teams who have always been pretty good and don't stay down long if they have an even bigger things a little differently in terms of being aggressive in the draft in terms terms of gooby up to get a player that they truly covet instead of waiting back ball to them. The bengals are boring the latter category the bangles aren't aggressive arrested outside free agency at all unless they happen to be a former buffalo bills player apparently then then they go after him but you know to be the biggest the biggest issue with this team is they have made it known that they live and die by the draft of who they get in those classes but they employ one of the smallest analyst doubting staffs in the NFL and they aren't very aggressive as I mentioned we've been up in the draft to get some of these higher caliber players so to me. There's kind of a little bit of a contradiction. They're going on They also don't have the indoor practice facility. That's a big issue for a lot of different fans and maybe some of the players in that locker room if you ask them but you know I think they're slowly moving in a in a right direction. I think Marvin Lewis believe it or not probably helped push that but you know I it is slow moving franchises kind of run as more of a family business instead of a business enterprise if you will so you know it is what it is with the bengals and their ownership with an epic first week of football behind this Dr King's the leader in one day fantasy football is upping the ante with another huge contests heading into the second week of NFL match ups.

"The coaches are young and inexperienced variance so they're still growing as well. This could be a team that if they end up being competitive which is very possible they end up being competitive and maybe for a playoff spot plot. This could be a team that starts slow to begin the year <hes> and then as they grow together. Maybe as offensive line melds together everything you're going to see a team that starts putting together winds. Maybe gets a little streaky. I don't know we'll see but there's a lot. There's a lot to kinda sort out. Still with two games left in the preseason. The pre season game is in cincinnati and it will be kind of the dress rehearsal the the bengals first team offense probably wasn't they weren't thinking they were going to get that many snaps but with so many penalties early in the game they the drive kept getting extended because of all these replays replay the down replay the down so they ended up getting more snap so but i think you'll probably see andy dalton in the starters <hes> play about a quarter and a half. You'll probably see quite a few guys who you have not seen very little of in the preseason so far get more snaps. Get some time so i think <hes> i think there's a lot to take in over after this game and there's a lot to watch next game over although main two words from tom johnson goodwin a win is a win. It was a sloppy win and it depends on how hard you want to criticize things things. I'm i'm i guess i'm a little bit harsher of critique in the maybe some other fans but the sloppiness everything needs to be cleaned up some of that is attributed to coaching some of that is attributed to just talent on the roster <hes> but you do have to like some of the explosive plays you have to like some of the development. You're starting to see from some some of these young guys in under zack taylor but i think maybe as a as the preseason starts to end in close up. Maybe maybe we'll sit here and will will be saying different. You know singing a different tune about a you know now. They're not thinking as much they're more playing and reacting instead of <hes> you know over thinking and maybe causing some of these penalties <hes>. Thanks for tuning in everyone. We're gonna get outta here because it's late for <hes> probably quite a few i love you. If you're tuning in here on thursday night again. I'm anthony costanza was since jungle dot com. "That's fine when you attack the drought that fine if you have a certain base level of talent or certain base level of franchise elevate repairs on your team and compared with the n._f._l. As a whole thing certainly have a lot of that and then i'll tell they have a couple of guys concern serbia lead from a rolling the upper part of the roger sense but not exactly the most top the n._f._l. Can necessarily carry a lot of niche place needed additionally acquires much talent players as possible which is why you know in the wrath of one of them to take a little bit more risks not say safe players who can only one or two things do them well so when those taste shirley turnout then your talent going on even bigger and that's i think this will be saw basically reasoning the deaths on on these positions assault okay for players compared them just the rest of the league when they go up against other teams like you see the spirit of talent and when you don't have the league coaching eighteen not yet we hope we go taylor and stuff that we don't have around you becomes tougher to really joke with the really easy but some of the best teams in the league so so in terms of reacting to this like dishonored lots take away from it because of the increase in that sense but basically tells us that this this long way to go and we can't can't really you know crown them as playoff contenders just yet still a little bit far fetched for me personally right now. I'm like see what this team does with more count but you know the the the the starting twenty two that came out there is very similar to what they had last season when they have those drew so as we've seen like is not going to be done with different if they suffer a lot of injuries <hes> again lou the injury late in that sense now. It's not that much different in terms of you know players carrying unloaded replacing compensating for losses. If everyone stays healthy it can be a different story but if everyone stays healthy in the bengals has not really you know follow. There's very little dynamic in that sense so i think we just need to see more and drive of the stars is really going to sway my opinion back forth but in a lot of working a lot more kushner kind of this one of the big things that will show zack taylor's worth erc show him cutting his teeth as a coach is creating his staff in general is creating schemes in creating eating plays that minimize the the matchup weaknesses of the players that they'll be putting out there if they can do that if they can. They can really play to do their specific players that they're trotting out there to the strengths of those players. <hes> you know this team can be a competitive team. If if that's going to be too big of a hill to climb mm-hmm and really maybe some of us are over estimating the talent of some of these players that they are putting out there then you know that's not this this could get ah ugly pretty quick but i think that you know having a joe mixon geo bernard in vert and ross and green and all of for those guys back obviously make a huge difference but none of those guys <hes> there's no loss in there's no jackson but that defense looked a little loss which was <hes> <hes> not not very good to see and you know taylor first time n._f._l. Head coach callahan. I you know really first. Stint is an offensive coordinator <hes> <hes> in the n._f._l. And anna room first time as a defensive coordinator as well so a lot of experience from the the major trio of coordinators and coaches there. This is the orange black insider bangles podcast. "With when the Bengals do these kind of deals there is a major risk in major reward award factor when they do these deals in the summer <hes> the the major risk of course is that the they've done a handful of these vaunted perfect Gino Atkins others and immediately after some of those guys suffer some bit big injuries which is shame name and you can't really help that hopefully that does not happen with tyler boy but those those contracts ended up biting him sometimes when they do those but other times it's a good thing because these things these players go into these contract ears and then all of a sudden they explode now. They want more money than we know that when March rolls around teams get frenzied and they pay a lot of money to get guys at some a lot of times overpay to get guys on their team pull them away from other teams and we know that the bengals are not very adept in the bidding war department so <hes> I that's. I think that's why these these summer contracts in getting them done before training camp all that kind of stuff I think that that is a a very wise move by the Cincinnati bengals and keeping a player like tether boyd is obviously key who what they WANNA do on offense in what Zach Taylor wants to do going forward insuring right yeah and like you said this risk on both sides of the thing link he could get hurt. He could go crazy if if you don't if you don't sign down he can be become even more expensive. I think you'll you'd only WANNA do these. Deals with declares confidently usually guys g line guys like Charleston guys gauge a green in that sense guys who feel comfortable being cornerstones of your franchise and generally with with receivers <unk> question their value in grand scheme offense and what their value is relative to the quarterback and whatnot but I think when you have a guy like Boyd who proven who proved that he can still produce the effective you even is as the more receiver in just a guy who can do multiple things. I think that trump's <music> allotted value from from other receivers in other receivers for you hesitant to give out a market sending deal like there's no doubt that if talent boyd played a similar level in history <unk>. I just don't believe that the thing was what resigned. I think there was only be <unk>. There would be another team that handed him a lot of guaranteed money and just what we said the market for again that that to receive which which is exactly what void is so getting this deal done now is the smartest thing is taking the necessary risks like every deal like this has risks racing balls especially when the player in this young who only has one goodyear under his belt but this is the risk of the kind of have to take tangles and taking risks of contracts. It's usually not a very good thing but <unk> with this in itself. I I think this was arrested. They had to take S._S. agreed and they did <hes> they. They made it known they wanted to resign tyler boy. They get it <hes>. We'll see what happens with A._J.. Green coming up. I would be pretty surprised if they do not get that deal done but dangerous things have happened A._J.. has made it known. He wants to stay in Cincinnati so we'll see but for now the the the headline is on Tyler Boyd for years forty three million to stay with the Cincinnati bengals long-term a good move for the team team and well deserved after a a good year last year by by the receiver. This is the orange blackadder bengals podcast. He's John Sharon. I'm Anthony Costanza will be talking about <hes> training camp here. We've just had been discussing tabloids new deal <hes> right before training camp start and will be talking about training camp. I don't know how they did it. It's like our flight that Japan Anthony Costanza refused to pay the fee to upgrade to the pod. He's six foot fourteen. He didn't fucking back because DON's a bad decision here but on the way home he got the pod but on the way over there so they just first-class <hes> yeah see I think like whole planes should be outfitted like that. "<music> everyone. It's the orange and black insider bagels podcast once again. It feels like it's only been a week but it feels like it's been a long time for some reason at least to me. I'm Anthony Costanza and I'm joined by John Sharon. I Dunno John. It's kind of a weird feeling maybe it's just because we only did the one show last week instead of the couple but it seems like it's been an eternity. Maybe also the holiday since we last took the air but it's good to be live again. Good to see you again. You're looking. You're looking well groomed my friend. I saw you making sure everything was in place before we took the air. How's your fourth man? A fourth is great. <hes> had my mom's sixtieth birthday party on the the infamous party. How was that Infants Party on men have story for you <hes> so my sister bought these <hes>? I don't remember what the balloon is made of but it's like the the really big ones like shiny metallic it has it has a word for him but she bought these Blues Amazon. It's spelled my mom's name names Kathy but she can find a why so just was cast so we took these balloons to our local kroger to blow them up and the lay behind the counter <hes> <hes> over inflated the Tea So my dad was walking the balloon back to the car just popped over his shoulder. Oh Jeez yeah and then the A in calf was also had a hole in it so that was under inflating so we had a K. and an h but no a T. so we come home on data Russia's the Michaels to get these little tiny yellow balloons than inane a T. fitting between the K. in the age in basically ended up working out fine because it kind of looks cool artsy where you have just like the two big letters at the end to come to smallers in the middle but other than that party was party was <unk> success over friends with their families. There get really drunk midnight when she when her birthday was officially time it was it was all fun and then my birthday was the eighth <hes> yeah it was almost on a whole raft. My Mom will little overshadow this year for for good measure but I didn't. I didn't know that I'm sorry I nobody cares when you turned twenty three. Everybody cares me turns in sixty though we're obviously now we're nowhere close to succeed. <hes> yeah thank you <hes> I if it makes you feel better John <hes> we were joking about this and talking about a little bit for the air you are I found out you are now is old is my air conditioning mission unit at my house so so <hes> happy birthday man I didn't. I didn't know that was a gosh. We're we're we're buds. Were were bengals comrades here. I didn't know that about you. I feel bad but off the off the Getcha a little something I'll be waiting gift in the now okay. Give me your address. Give me rhetoric all ultra often person. "Well, everyone, welcome to another episode of the orange block insider Bengals podcast. And there's really kinda just one thing to say, I guess, to start off the show. No, please. No, no, no. That about sums it up, right? John, I am displeased to be bringing this episode to all of you on the heels of some very bad news. But I am Anthony Costanza, and I'm joined by John barren. Michael, Scott says it all right. Forty have you pointed out right now. Say I could probably use a couple of those. Yeah. Pretty unbelievable. For those of you who don't know what we're talking about did come out earlier on Tuesday, Jona Williams appears to be done for the year based on some reports. He's got a torn labor him. And he underwent surgery recently to repair that. And that is now where we're at with things. We're going to talk about that from a lot of different angles, and then we're going to try and lighten up some things towards the end of the program. We were afraid that we didn't have much news to talk about this week. But Jona Williams for what you wish for I know Jona Williams Cincinnati Bengals and lady fortune provided us with the quite a bit of news to, to discuss here. I do want to for those who are joining us live. I do wanna say thank you. Because we usually record our weekly show. We do some other things throughout the week. We usually record our weekly show on Wednesday. We had to do it Tuesday for a scheduling conflict reasons this week. And so I appreciate those of you who turning tuning in live for a little bit of a different day in time, here, we will be doing listener questions in a standalone episode at the end of the week on Friday. We'll talk about that more and just a little bit. And of course, you can get this. Program on I tunes on Stitcher on Spotify on Google play on megaphone. You can also subscribe to our YouTube channel, and all of our stuff is on cincy, jungled dot com. I think based on what I'm seeing, John, it appears as if perhaps, our, maybe our video issue has resolved itself from last week. So hopefully that's not a not a problem for the, the YouTube viewers. But let's talk Joan Williams, man. What I am struggling to find words start here. You know, I think we were all pretty excited about the pick when it happened. One of the pluses, to the pick was the fact that he has shown immense durability. It is time in Alabama. And of course he gets to Cincinnati doesn't even suit up for training camp a preseason game or anything in it appears season is done before it, even started, yet, it's not years. So this is the this is the labor MIR. John Ross is twenty seventeen headed torn Lee room, derail most law season. Drippin's rookie season journalists the twin LeBron twenty nineteen the even years is actually the turnpike Toyo because that was swim. Jackson's injuring twenty sixteen causing the midst all year and then torn pectore off season in twenty eight last year. So we're going back and forth here between over body injuries. Fortunately, no ACO's sports, not least, but, you know, we're Bengals stance, we only get. So much luck. But. Yeah. Like what else are you supposed to say like it was we were on last week? And I was talking about, like injury regressions supposed to go both ways of positively negatively Benz don't have positive injury, regression aloe. This is just the start of snake bit and year again, but not only is this on fortunate, because there's another first round pick knocking to see the field is rookie year, but this is an offense of lime this, maybe one of their best often slanted. "But I think beyond that, it's just a matter. It's just all out of our hands all kind of Bengals as they can. They can present their case in, in, hopefully, you know, Taylor's good job of does a better job of going beyond just, you know of just bringing guys in just just seem what they're about. But if there's actual genuine interest than the may be, but at the end of the day, there are other teams who have better prospects of winning now that's gonna be something McCoy values dearly. So if it comes down to the price tag problem with being the Bengals being the front runner of this competition, but I do think that there's a possible that, that Taylor with whatever sales fish because there is definitely playing time to be had at that position for the Bengals have right now. I don't think the course should be scared by Ryan Glasgow or reading rattle rent for that. Her. So I, I do think it's possible. I just wouldn't get my hopes beyond we're right now, because right now I'm just content that they aren't satisfied with what they have in that they are actually interested in a solid player on the open market, because it's more than we can say about the past sixteen years. Yeah. And like you said, you know, he does have some, some juice left. Some, some ability to contribute to the Bengals I think, as you saw the atrocious defensive performances last year throughout a lot of the season. You know, I think you saw some fatigue set in front once Glasgow went down, Gino Atkins, had to play a few more snaps than than, you know, than you would think he's entering his tenth season. Carlos Dunlap, all those guys were, you know, getting up there in age and they could use another rotational player. It seems weird is call McCoy. It will take player, former Pro Bowl guy, but that's kind of I think they would kinda mix and match and I think it would keep guys fresh in. That's, that's that was a key to the defense. Dominant under Mike Zimmer years ago so that, that rotation in varying the fronts. So maybe, maybe that's the plan. We'll see if the Bengals have enough money and Parrilla, I guess to, to sell McCoy to get to get to Cincinnati. "They did have two guys go right in front of them back to back that you would think would have been fits for them and at all of her Devon Bush, but they did not do that. So interesting to see what's going to happen with Jona Williams where he'll play and if he'll get immediate playing time for this team. I'm Anthony Costanza was cincy jungle dot com and the orange black insider will be here. Just another couple of minutes to answer some questions and this Facebook live chat for those who listen to our podcast, we won't be doing live videos on our usual YouTube channel or since he jungle we're going to do them here on Facebook. And then they'll be on our feeds later on. So in case, you aren't able to catch all of these Facebook live videos that we're doing over the weekend. You can get the stuff later on both. It'll be on cincy junk dot com as well as the orange black insider feeds. This is a good point by George Johnson. What's going to happen over the next couple of picks, perhaps the Bengals look around to round three MAC Wilson from Alabama seems to be a guy that will probably be there at the top around to maybe even the top around three depending on how players how people look at him be interesting if the Bengals went Alabama Alabama with their first two picks, but he's a guy that, you know, obviously, a lesser talent. Or a lesser sure thing than a Devon butcher, Devon white. But a guy that could help them in and probably start immediately for them as a day to pick wide receiver might be a sneaky need tight end might be a sneaky need. I think the Bengals will probably get another offense of Lyman during the weekend. But I would say probably day three. And it'll probably be one of those swing interior offensive linemen. I think now the Bengals will probably focus over. The next handful of picks linebacker defensive line wide receiver quarterback. I think those are probably an in in no particular order there. But I think those are probably where they're going to look now, I this is an interesting, I'm seeing some talking here about trades. This is an interesting topic of conversation. There are a couple of players the Bengals could look at trading for that are supposedly on the trading. Block solemn Thomas, I saw is on the trading block from the San Francisco forty Niners. Darren Lee has been rumored to be on the trading block by the New York Jets. So we'll see if he ends up being trade bait going forward. And of course, Josh Rosen from cardinals now that they selected Cuyler Murray. Number one overall, these are all guys at the Bengals could potentially look at trading for as the weekend unfolds. I think most teams are as Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported ESPN, I think most teams are probably going to look at what happens the rest of the first round with quarterbacks. And then see obviously, Arizona and other teams will probably start fielding calls for all that for Josh Rosen could be a target at a minimum a very very good backup. Randy Dalton in the developmental guy that could potentially take over for him. And if you years Darren Lee, not the best linebacker, but a guy who's ethnic and could play be a two down type of linebacker for the Bengals and could do some things and. Then of course, you have as I mentioned psalm and Thomas who'd be a rotational guy that could could help the Bengals out going forward. I appreciate all of you tuning in here. You may hear a little garble in the background. That's my that's my sign. He's eating and on solo dad duty as we do this. So kind of juggling a lot. But I appreciate you. You're listening in and my little son says Hello to all of you watching and listening on this draft weekend. Again, I'm Anthony Kazan's it with the orange black insider Bengals podcast and since he jungle dot com the Bengals selected Alabama offensive lineman Jona Williams with the number eleven overall pick solid pick by the Bengals as you heard on the telecast from both NFL network and ESPN it's not a pick that you're going to hear a lot of. Wow, great pick because of the position he plays..

"Interesting to note, what you said about him cleaning out the locker in you know, his his position coach potentially becoming the defensive coordinator here. This is the orange black insider bagels podcasts. He's John Aaron I'm Anthony Costanza. We're talking about the Bengals seemingly never ending defensive coordinator. Search. This is kind of the other area. You know, you mentioned that Taylor probably went into his interview prepared with a list of coaches that he had in mind for certain areas certain positions in all that he probably had a list of like, you said, you know, we had Dennis Allen he had a couple of others on that list at least probably three or four guys deeper is II K. You know, these are the guys I'd like to interview in the either said, no or stayed where they were at. I mean, it is at this is kind of a two pronged question. I guess but his at an indictment of Taylor. And what those coaches have seen from this defensive staff. You know, you said, yeah, there's talent there there is. But there isn't. I mean, they're they're holes there. Or is this? I mean, I kind of look at it and go will if you bring that list of names that you're going to potentially pursue as defensive coordinator. You have to have an inkling that these guys are interested in the job are going to potentially leave a pretty like Dennis Allen is going to leave a pretty good gig. And you you have a pretty good idea that they're gonna follow you here or was he just kinda shooting for the stars..

"You could change it could change it. I mean, you do what you gotta do. That was it man. A few words because I felt assured who's sitting on his knee when I was doing was interview with him. And I and it was so hot which basically made me realize a hates everything. He's doing right now is getting heated. But also the man you don't take things from this guy. What an exclusive interview. That was incredible. I feel like I know everything I ever wanted to know about the he's not a talker. It's not a talker. Did like mean some bitch means son of a bitch is the nickname. He'd like to go from go by. So maybe we have to change the juggernaut shirt and make it the mean son of a bitch shirt. The team of extraordinary gentlemen, but that guy is your prototypical offensive lineman. I've never been more uncomfortable in my life talking to somebody. And I mean that with everything every ounce of my body never. There was no way. I was breaking him. I feel like I can break people. I've you're like can get them to put their guard down. There was zero chance as soon as microphone one on him. And he sat next to me. It was over as soon as he walked his foot in the indoor facility. I turned around, and we all hey, nice to see you had nothing to say to anybody just walked up. Then Pat did this thing. I started soiling myself because I'd say this is not good. This guy is not wanna be here. Three hundred and thirty pounds of men that does not want to be on a Cam. No. I asked him a couple of questions before that. By the way. What's your hearing? There is the majority of our conversation. True. I got I got out early. I got out early because I was like we're just wasting his time. There's no way he was very nice that he allowed us to chat with him. Very nice. Then he did that. But he is a guy who doesn't want any attention. He wants no media attention. That's why when that viral video want with the fake screaming he was pissed off about it. He just thinks it's a we thing. It's not a meeting just let me block people and get the hell out of here. And he likes the nickname of means son of a bitch. So there was exclusive interview Clinton Nelson he'll pro offense lineman. They're rookie huge get to the any anything from the other linemen about him. Or was he just a silent killer say so directly after that interview with Quinton Nelson. Conversation. Quick chat. We'll call it. Quick chat with. All right. That's what that was. It was we had a quick chat with Quinton Nelson. I go to leave the building Jeffries with me, we both made a lot of friends in that building. They've remodeled. It the training room is directly inside. Now. After you go in they they asked me if I wanted to go see the training room. I'm like, sure. So I go walk up. It's all remodeled. I peeked my head in and it's all the trainers and physical therapists that basically have rehabbed me from three surgeries. I'm very tight with these people, and they'll go ahead. So I walk in there. It's a very, you know, it's like the old days. How joke inventory's in there? He comes says what's up? He just got out of the hot tub. He's coming over a lot of tea wise in there, which you're gonna hear an incredible conversation chess Rogers, her Anthony Costanza also in their guy that I went to Japan with their calling him Godzilla fan real story. True story who was awesome. He he also offense lineman mentality. Like, right. He's an offensive lineman, and he has his head down. He's getting something like a maybe a a roll out on his hand before practice. They're just kind of keeping him loose getting everybody loose before practice, and they go, Pat, how was it out there? You know? And I was like I've never been more uncomfortable. Thai. I felt like I was holding him hostage. I I felt like he did not want to be there. I thought he might have killed me by the end of it. So we ended it a little bit early because stanzas starts dying laughing dying laughing hollering laughing over everybody else in the training room. And he goes, I never would've guessed was rape. Rape back into the fuck is happening Costanzo, and he just he just laughs. I think everybody in..

"One hundred percent you have success on the field in a building on a court in a pool. I don't care where it is. If you have had success there consistently. You're you think you're just going to go out and kill it. Yeah. I mean preparations, obviously, still counts. But the the amount of confidence you go into a game like that with when you've been so successful at a particular venue like you pointed out, you feel like you're just gonna tear the roof off the place when you walk in. I mean before the game even started like, I own this place and AT why did it again? Oh, yeah. Yeah. He did. And and you know, it's interesting too because he he walked in. And there were some social media stuff. Going back and forth before the game. And it took him a while in the second half to get back on it. But final individual t y Hilton had five receptions for eighty five yards, which is well below his average and along a thirty eight he was a factor. Mostly in the first half of the only threw for two hundred and change. Anyway. So I mean, you could still argue had almost half the receiving yards. I think that's the thing that surprises me about the colts. Yeah. T y Hilton and Andrew luck. You've got a quarterback who's playing as well as anybody and T Y Hilton who's who's dominated in that building as we just said, but you know, what and his wide Andrew luck and credit Frank Reich a little bit. But Andrew luck as well. If it take the culture doing whatever it takes. They ran the football with with a quarterback and running back who really probably are receiver who probably could have thrown for as much as they wanted to throw it and they end up with Marlin MAC hand in the football off MAC ends up with one hundred and forty eight yards on twenty four carries averaging six point to a Carey. I mean, they just they just push the Texans around. And I think the Texans get into that. They're one of those teams. I think the Texans were built to rush the passer. Right. Well, they don't stop the run too. Good. Well, I think it shows you what how quickly you can fix an offensive line from one year to the next because the the cult -fensive line had been much maligned for the for the last three or four seasons was Anthony Costanza wanna bunch of guys in Costanza was slightly above average is an offensive tackle in this league. But everybody knows they drafted Quentin Nelson sixth overall, but they also drafted the Auburn kid. Brayden Smith in the second. Round. So your to starting guards are rookies and their rookies to their player killing people at mobile guys, you know, and, you know, Quentin Nelson's all pro as a rookie, and he's gonna probably be for the next ten years if they keep them there. But you you draft to quality guards with some high picks, which is what Indianapolis did. They've changed the landscape of what they are offensively, which now is one of the most balanced, offense left balanced. Offense is left in the playoffs. It's not all of them. But I get it. But here, but I'm just saying for Bill Phil they got T Y Hilton, and Marlin they had a lot of defensive holes to fill season. And you know, they didn't really have anybody beyond t y Hilton at the at the receiver position. And yes, I mean, they had oil tight end. But you know, they make a free agent acquisition Eric Hebron, and he takes off this year would have nine ten touchdowns in the regular season. So they they made some good moves in free agency. And they made some some really astute moves in the draft. And I guess my point is if you're a bills fan worried about how are they gonna fix this offensive line in one off season? This is evidence that it can be done to draft picks at at the guard spots. You know, and why spending and free agency? And you know, look at where the team is. Now, I really I think they've done. You know, you gotta tip your hat to Ballard. They're the GM. Chris ballard. He's done a nice job in one off season. Kind of retooling that unit. Granted you're crossing your fingers that Andrew luck shoulder was gonna come through. But it did it's easy to say. Now this like I figure it's gonna be. Alright Ben and Frank Reich is one hell of a plan b Josh mcdaniels said, thanks, but no, thanks. I mean, holy cow. I asked myself this question, I'd like to know. Where the colts would be if Josh mcdaniels had gotten a job and not Frank. It's a worthwhile debate to have. But there's no way to prove any now, they wouldn't trade it now while there, I don't I don't tell you what even even privately they're saying, you know, what they're getting. We fell into it. You know, they're they're they're they're openly. Admitting said listen, we have Josh me. I don't know how good Josh mcdaniels would have been. But right now, they're like we hit a home run. When we got plan b and it was it ended up being Frank Reich. You got to applaud them for and Ballard's openly admits it and good for him. You know? I mean, hey, we'll found money. You're listening to Steve Tasker Chris Brown on one bills live presented by Kaleida health. Word from one bills drive. You can get in on the conversation. If you like we're we're talking about the wild card weekend. We're also we're talking we're going to have a visit from Thurman Thomas later in the show Sao Paolo. Antonio who covers the NFL. And also the Philadelphia Eagles also covered twenty five Super Bowls. Now, he'll be on with us later in the show. We're going to be here until three o'clock, and we we've been kind of skimming through these games real quick. And this opening segment we can go back and get more in depth to him as well. I think the big story the last game of the of the game. We started out with Chicago game. I wanna give you listen all of us in buffalo are in a different spot with a missed field goal than anybody else. But I want to give you a chance to listen to what happ- what it sounded. Like when Cody Parke's kick for the Chicago Bears to give them the win in the wild card and advanced them to the divisional Ramsey labs. Yeah. It instead it would have been advanced bears. It would have been the winning field goal. Instead it advanced the eagles. This is what the Spanish call of the Cody parkey doing the double wink, feel sounded like on Spanish radio in Chicago. Let's listen. Cody.

"Just when you think your heart rate could be raised enough, the Cincinnati bangles for the second week in a row, pull out in absolute stunner to get the foreign one and her top the AFC north division everyone has gone. It's Anthony Costanza with the orange, black inside are once again, and even though the Bengals have a handful of great winds already this season, they've got a big game coming up this Sunday week. Six. We'll talk about that. Just a second. I'm joined by usual coz John, Sharon, John promise that wasn't mad at you last week, man. On purpose. I, I don't know what happened there, but we missed you for the rest of the show. We got a couple of questions in from you to our to our other gentlemen joins us, and then about one commenting. About the falcons dolphins and then you went by. So it's good to have you back in hopefully no little Google demons will get you this time a plea, not of those guys in we will home not only in for the night. You must've piss off the corporate don't. I don't know anyway. Great. Great to have you back obviously exciting past couple of weeks or the Bengals. Right? Like they can't get very, I guess, let's try to recap what the hell happened. Last Sunday. Once again. Cincinnati. Cincinnati had a different kind of comeback against the falcons right. There were kinda going toe to toe that score. It was just kind of score for score for story out a couple of of, you know, holding the the opposition to no points and all all that kind of stuff. But for the most part, especially first half it was like a toe to toe game right. This was a different kind of comeback. This was your play, like absolute garbage for two and a half quarters, and literally. Every facet of the game was not working. There were getting early in the wrong game. They couldn't get any kind of semblance of rhythm on offense. The special teams had a blocked field goal and a punt return touchdown with like less than a half a minute left in the half a seventy orbiter. That's inexcusable. Then you come out and you're like, okay, you get the ball in half, okay, but now they've had time to regroup. Let's get this together. They come out put forth probably the worst possible three out series on offense. You could put you could go out there with after after I played the first half. I guess I'm trying to figure out a question here, but I mean, what was what was the biggest catalyst in this comeback was in anti Dalton was Joe mixon was at the defense clamping up in in making adjustments that way. Lot of fingers to point both on the positive and negative, but I'm trying to sit here and say, that's the person responsible for this comeback. And I don't know who that is. Yes, in mining has hung over watching the game, but. I just felt like it just sounds strange, just a wise because it was the game that both Bertha CT in Nixon returning and they are, you know. Kind of like the heart and soul of both sides of the ball. They're the guys who kind of gets everybody going, the kind of feed off their energy, and we saw none of that in the first quarter and a half. And obviously to perfect point knows his first game back all year. You know. I only use add fate. No, he kind of collapsed down on a question before the the game later in the week..
