"Then there were a lot of people that would get in the, I'm willing to do what it takes, what's required to win. But there are no guarantees. And it's the old saying, remember the guy who remember the guy who quit right before he had success? No. Yeah, nobody else does either, right? It is. It's one of those things there are no guarantees, or are you willing to do the work even though there's no guarantee. Good is the enemy are great. Because it came from somebody on the text line said, it comes from the book good to great. Yeah, I think it's a guy named probably John or something. Oh, man. Vote by Jim Collins of Jim John. I was close. As we get you set for game one. Now, some of you, we're getting a little pushback. Why do you keep bringing up the negative history? Because we want you to use it as fuel. If you don't know your history, then you're what? You're bound to repeat it. Bound to repeat it. We want you to use this. We want you to use this as inspiration. We want to stoke the embers. Of your passion for tonight. And a reminder of why the Lakers have been a major, major thorn in our side. Here's the yet another example. Gotta get that 2009 hometown hero Chauncey billups was treated to Denver and led the best nuggets team in over 20 years to the Western Conference Finals against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Got the game one. Anthony Carter committed a mistake that continues to haunt the mile high city to this day. Trevor ariza shoots the physical while the smaller Anthony Carter had trouble passing the ball in. Over the long Odom, which allowed of Visa to shoot the gap for the steel because Carter has the lobbyist bounds pass. After a hard fought series, the nuggets magical season came to an end in 6 games. At the hands of the Lakers. You know, I think there's a lot of revisionist history about and it's probably the people who like to come after George Carl. Because we're like, they couldn't throw an inbounds pass. That's why we lost the series. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. Hold on a second. They lost that series in 6 games, okay? It was a two two series. We just got done with a two two series. All important game 5 in LA, they lose. Okay. You're down three, two. Guess what you get a chance to come home. Yeah. And you get a chance to come home and beat the Lakers, force a game 7 in which the idea is that anything can happen. In that game they got beat one 19 to 92. They quit. I mean, they flat out quit in that game 6 at home. They got beat by 27 points at home in game 6. So kind of like Phoenix. Yeah, don't exactly. So don't. This revision is history while Anthony Carter cost him the series. We talking about. You're at home in game 6 with a chance to respond and you quit. So anyway, I think the history of that series has been rewritten a little bit over the years. I do have, I do have some people saying, well, you guys did the same thing with Kansas City last year, and they rolled us again. Well, he's got a point. He does, but he did have a point. But I'll give you, hey, but tax year one, us zero. You know what? You're not wrong. Yeah. They know that to work today. You know what? You win. You win. That's whole milk. Yeah, that's heavy cream. Shannon Sharpe. You're not our friend anymore. Here's what he had to say as he was taking a look at the Western Conference Finals, breaking it down from the Lakers standpoint, of course. And then his prediction. It's going to come down to this gift. Okay, your two best players, Jamal Murray jokic, AD and LeBron, play to a stalemate. Okay, now the other three, the others, what are you going to do? Austin Reeves, delo, Lonnie walker, Rui hachimura, vandal, those guys, can you outplay Gordon? Can you outplay KCP? Can you outplay Michael Porter junior? Bruce Brown, if you can, I like the Lakers. So I'm going to take the Lakers. I will be bold in my prediction. I've been, I'm going to go legacy 6. You know what? Shannon, you had me with your analysis right up until how you interpreted your analysis. Because I totally go with the idea of the others. As the key difference in this series. But after just watching the nuggets, others against Phoenix's others, I think Lakers, others are better than Phoenix's others, but I still don't think there are others are as good as the nuggets others. You follow that? Everyone get that? So Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter junior, Bruce Brown, kentavious Caldwell Pope. Versus Austin Reeves, D'angelo Russell, Lonnie walker, Vanderbilt, and hachimura. Hachimura, I think that's how I pronounce it. Yeah, hachimura. Haki Mara. You should have a film guy. He still works over at the Broncos. Yeah. Is that his last name or his full name? First and last name. Last name. Horror hoochie. You must have come up with a nickname for him. I always wanted him to marry Kristi yamaguchi and she'd be Chrissy yamaguchi horo hoji. See, I knew you had something. I knew you had something. Wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever? Christy yamaguchi hora Kochi. All right. "Getting the laboratory, you know? Legalize the fumble rusky, bring that back. Yeah. Statue of Liberty play based offense. Spikes anymore either. Yeah. We should fake spike it more. Fake spike at rent or just spike it at random times. Just throw everyone off. I don't care about these downs. I have Aaron Rodgers give himself up and then draw a penalty. Oh, like the pit version of Kenny Pickett. Yeah, like fake give yourself up. Yes. Yeah. Those are all options. Here's what I'm saying. There's no excuse. You and I have, yeah, no, I'm just picturing Matt Lafleur like listening to this podcast and furiously scribbling down these ideas. Why didn't I think of that? Make spike. Coaches, though, and granted, they don't have time to do this. Coaches have so much stuff going on. But the availability of film that they have at their disposal where they can go to all available levels of college football and they have like a little overlay system that can be just like show me every trick play that gained 20 or more yards in the NCAA this weekend and they can watch them all in 40 seconds. We just have terrible game pass. We can't do that. So how do I know what's out there? There's probably some cool stuff out there, you know? Watch it. Do a whole script of it, you know? Just show us that you're willing to get a little nuts, you know? Man, 50 53 fake plays. How, okay, I recognize that this is not gonna work, right? It's that it's screwed up and then it's not gonna happen. But yeah, how pissed, how messed up, how stressed out would you be as a defense if you came out like Philly special Statue of Liberty play? Annexation of Puerto Rico. I'm trying to think of the other ones from NFL. NFL quarterback club 95. The one play at the Vikings have in tecmo bowl. Anthony Carter and around when you want to lose 8 yards. Yeah. That one. Oh, what else could you do? You know, you just run them back to back to back to back to back. You run like a hook and ladder. Just do it all back to back and then as a team, what would you what would you do? You'd be freaking out. Yeah. Pretty cool, you know? Or you'd just be watching the other team not move the ball. Yeah, or to just be too bad plays and then like an interception or fumbler punt. Yeah, but and to answer to answer Tom's question here. No, I don't think. I don't think the packers are heating up. I think they have enough answers to kind of be maybe in the wild card hunt. You can stick around in games. And that's the thing. They're part of the goulash now. They're part of the 24 team goulash. They're probably, I think, optimistically either in the middle of it. I think you even argue that with the injury issues on defense, they're on the bottom half of that. But yeah, you just hope you catch a couple breaks. You hope you get a couple tipped interceptions. Whatever Casey Hayward was doing last year to keep getting hidden to chest with passes. Hope that happens again. Yeah. Well, that was good, Gary. I think, you know, I don't know how many questions we actually answered, but I had a good time. I had a good time. We covered the weather, we got into foreign affairs a little bit. Some mathematics in there, I think. What else could you ask for? It's a mailbag. "I still do it. Who cares? Washington does have that cap space though, which is a problem unless I'm wrong. KCP and coos is 26 million, I didn't look to see what Thomas Bryant is at. Yeah, that's too much. Too much. Just opt out and all our problems are curious. Hey, Anthony Carter forgot to turn in his paperwork. You never know. Yeah. Who would you compare max Christie's shooting form to and predictions? Okay, again, this is another one of those things where I'm going to say something and I want you guys to not misinterpret what I'm saying. You're not saying he's as good as this player. Yeah. I'm not saying it's upsize as good as his player. But his uniform reminds me a lot of Klay Thompson's. He kind of goes to elevate and shoot it. It goes a little bit higher, like it's released points higher than clay's I feel, but what about the dip in his shot? Are you worried about that at all? When he comes to shoot, he brings the ball I think he brings it. He needs momentum because he's not that strong right now. So he really brings the ball down low and then brings it up. Do you think that's an easy fix? That's an easy fix. That's just now the problem with fixing that would be it's just needs to be like countless repetition and like breaking a quote unquote bad habit. It's not a terrible thing. Necessarily. We have the mason bee said max equals clay confirmed. No. If I call that one too, maybe I am Doctor Strange. But no, his shooting form does kind of remind me of Klay Thompson's a little bit. A little bit different and some spots. But I think their footwork coming off screens and how they relocate for shots is similar. They're shooting form, especially at the release is similar. Again, Chrissy's a little bit higher. But yeah, I'm about to dip, like you mentioned Trevor. I'm not too too concerned. It's just about getting in the gym and trying to fix that. But you have Christian and Bill handy, so go ahead. I can't wait to see him at summer league. Lords of the sky, how's it going, gentlemen? Thank you. Just wanted to go in well, just wanted to say that I love the breakdown Shawn did. I'm max Christie. Oh, thanks, man. What are the chances he turns out to be a gem kind of like how Jordan Poole did? I mean, I think it's dangerous to put that kind of an expectation on a young player because most of the time that doesn't happen, but I'm intrigued by his skill set. I don't he's never going to be Jordan. Jordan Poole's skill set and Christy's skill set are not the same. Yeah, and I think one of the things that makes Jordan pole so dynamic is his finishing ability and how he can not only shoot the crap out of the basketball, but he can put the ball on the floor, and go finish through two players at the rim acrobatically. That's not max Christie at all. He's not really the athletic and he I think shot 40% at the room. Those numbers sound about right, and that's for anybody at the don't know. That's awful. Shooting 40% of the room. That's bottom 10%. For sure, so. But I do think there is a great chance he turns out to be a gem, maybe not Jordan and poll level gem, but that's because they're different players, so different skill sets, but three and D player. They can shoot and he's a really tough shot me because I'll give him that. I've got him and this may change once we see him in NBA action, but right.

"And that's where I've said. Nope, not doing that. From the Lakers. I think that's a pretty high price to pay. But anyway, not what I expect to happen. Just interesting. He's got some cap space and who knows. Yeah, they're going to be involved in doing something. They're going to bear as they should. Yeah, I mean, you're going to be busy anyway, because they've got three first round picks, but they'll be really busy. You know in other ways around the draft because that 20 to 30 million has a clock on it. Isn't that glocks about a month and a half away? Because once we were able to do July 1st, it's gone. That's gone. Now we're in the newly gear and it's gone fully. All right, let's move on to the Charlotte hornets. Only us can turn Derek favors doing a minor piece of bookkeeping into a 15 minute Russell Westbrook. Back to OKC and yeah. That's true. That's true. But you know what? I mean, I'll say this at least Derek favors didn't, oh my gosh, why is the name escaping me? Who's the guy for the heat that didn't pick up his agent didn't pick up the player option in time? Didn't submit the paperwork. It was. Gosh, I referenced this the other day too. Anthony Carter, was it Dion? Oh yeah. Yeah. I would say for some reason I wanted to say Dion waiters. And I was like, that's not right. It's not. Beyond waiters, but yeah. Okay, but let's move on to the hornets darvin. Man, that was a deep hole. I had to. Darvin ham is a serious candidate to get the hornets coaching job, which is, I mean, great for Darwin ham. I think it would be a good fit for him. He's also in the running for the Lakers job, along with like a dozen other people. And the hornets also interviewed Terry stotts as well. So right now, it's the Lakers in the hornet, so those are the two jobs open now that the king's job has been filled by Mike Brown. So those two jobs, all the major coaching candidates are going to get interviews. We talked the other day about Frank Vogel interviewing with the hornets, Mike D'antoni, being a candidate as well and how much fun that would be, whether or not that's good for the hornets. So interesting that they're looking at these different candidates. If it's me, I probably prefer darvin ham. If I'm the hornets, but we'll see ultimately which direction they go. I wonder if they want to do this before the Lakers settle on anybody. If that's if that is any kind of a thought in the hornets process here. Yeah, we're starting to see a lot of crossover in candidates here and that's part of your worry if you slow play the process..

Only 13 Dennis. Real quick. You know, we were talking about corners. Here's some corners from your childhood. Okay. Bobby walk in, and Bruce McNorton both transferred that I think that next year I think the next year I figured you would remember those names because ever to start in corners anyway, I know they're not really I got I'm particularly dirty. I I'm getting a dirty I I got to go. But I appreciate you call us back tomorrow. We'll finish. No blue 734 1918 50 God we loved to have in Jake from and are going up, Jake. "The guy. They dragged the yesterday Penny Fool. Why a Davis for William? I really like that like that, where they could just run the ball. Run the ball play action. I can get some good wide receiver third around they could come back and draft You know, to make all the owners around here. Have you take a draft Nico Power And they come back or draft Rondell more from producing a third round up there, But I don't know who's gonna be there. But I just think, believe it or not everything from the place for that man and I really Like the move they done with the GM and the hiring and the process. And You know, 80 90 days. Maybe they still nice player tonight. Maybe a couple more. In the third round. They got the Rams third round pick and Do you think started falling the blade for him? Yeah. You know, Troy, they're all done on the offensive line and with running backs. I mean, you just went through all the running backs when you can't play for this isn't Michigan last year with, you know, Josh Gattis rolling for running back the other guys. And you already mentioned how the tie you know he wasn't a right tackle on. You know, he wasn't a starter, but you can play him on the inside and they paid so much money for him. They He's going to be on the team. So there's your left guard mean you know what? The offensive line like they you got Jackson. You've got a hell of Italian. The guards. You got rag now. You got Decker, and now you've got Panay Sewell out. There are right tackle. They're all set and you know what? Carry on Johnson. He's had some injury problems. But when you put him into a tandem with DeAndre Swift and then you should call Williams, right? Right? Yeah, they're they're all set. You're all set. I think you gotta look on that defense of side. Dennis. You got to go get some guys that I think there's a lot of guys that it's I mean, it was said by Nick Bomb Gardener from the athletic Look, There's guys over on that side. There are guys available that could start on this Detroit Lions team. Right away immediately and make an impact, So we need to start looking on the other side of the ball and get you some defensive players that can make an impact. And this is where you make your your bones here like you first round. Yeah. You want a hit on that? I was looking at the all protein first team from last year. David Bach CRE and Corey Lindsay from Green Bay Ball first team All pro. Those guys were both fifth round picks. You find you find yourself in all pro in the fifth round. Now you're talking. Now. The rest of these guys are all first round picks. Jack Conklin out of Michigan State Quit Nelson, the Notre Dame guard. He was a first rounder Brandon. Sheriff from Washington. He was AH, first team all pro last year at guard. They drafted him as a tackle kicked him inside. So three first rounders into fifth rounders. But as you go on here, finding guys later in the draft No, that's the name of the game and get them not just to be productive. But the being, you know stars in this league. That's how 7349 and 8 10 50. Let's go to J. J. What's up, JJ. Well, my name is a boot harbors. Sorry. I've been really, really busy The last couple weeks of projects and teaching and stuff like that. But I finally caught up today. I got to call him by the way. Wednesday morning. You know who I heard on CBS radio? My quick it. No kill Morris. You're that guy that was here Accused Jamie. He played for the New York Giants. You know that guy? Known. Well, I talked to him yesterday. Yeah, well, he was on CBS radio, right When I get on Now, somebody's calling in on my phone. So I'm gonna try this. I just have to wait for it to go. I apologize, but the readers Draft again sucked. They reach for somebody in the first round, and so then the lines might have did something nice about my Raiders. They never recovered since that Marcus JaMarcus Russell. Yeah. And I gotta ask you a question. Dennis and Jamie You've got Tom, Um Ron Dunmore, other than Anthony Carter. He's the best wide receiver I've seen in the big 10. Because you need a first round draft pick. Hey, he did opt out, and he I mean, no, he did not doubt He got hurt That sophomore year. Remember, JJ. And then generally, Jamie. I saw up on the field. Well, that guy's game breaker. I think size, I think size and injury concerns those of the two things there, But I'm with you. You know if you sit there at number nine. I want the lines to select him. I You're right. Like he's one of those guys that you watch and he takes your breath away. I don't know what you say. Best. Y Hey, hey, time, everyone. One Claire, Hold on. J. J. Hey, Sean Austin Limitation on Austin, Avon. Avon, Austin. Remember him West West West Virginia. He was at West Virginia. He was just like he was just like Rondell more. I mean, a great player. When he got to this when he got to the next level, he couldn't do the things he was doing in college. So that could scare a lot of my God. Wait a buck 60. Hey, man, that was recently time He had the ball, but he would only missed one game is college career. He was a threat Every time I listen. I'm jealous of Rondell more. I might listen. I know Cris Carter, not of them, David Toral, You know, I'm saying he's better than them in my eyes. What I think they don't get. What the hell do are? No, I'm just a stupid swimmer. I'll say this. You know, it was nice to see you know. Quitting paced story and stuff like that, and what? We're lucky to have some kind of people like that. But you know what? You got to give our bloody patch but shelled a little credit for developing a couple of players over there. I still think he's the best coach in the Baytown. When you put everything together. That's my opinion. Let you to some other collars Go blue and Dennis from the old sea view out there, Colin. Thanks. Appreciate it, JJ. Uh, yeah, we're gonna take. Hey, I'm taking Philly Eat. What up, Billy? How you doing, man? It was so boys playing hurt again. Man feels damn good. No. What the hell happened? I got some major GI issues here, but Yeah, we have that late night Whiskey. You know, e so much me. All that old but just bought the damn thing. That's two days ago, but I don't know whatever. Anyway, I thought quietly, right? No more. The best wide receiver since Anthony Carter in the big town. No, I was changing. Bellboy godfather of all wide receivers. So you know you do with the conversation always starts with Anthony Carter. You compare it. You compare everybody that him. You don't compare him to anybody. And that goes for anybody in the Michigan uniforms, too. And brain Lynn and Terrell ever every every one of them. Do even, uh, even death anyway. I say What? I was the pick when you guys were talking about him last week, and you were saying how, how Next? The prick was saying that he's got like this incredible work work ethic. I think it's Jerry Rice when I hear things like that, when you get that kind of work ethic combined with talent. I almost always the guy is just unbelievable. So that's what I'm expecting out of him and pride of his injury. He was, was he not the man? So that is one thing not to mention He's gonna be the Dawsons Got him, right? So that means he's reunited with two. Uh so that's a huge help. And, uh, is good. And, uh, you know, little Dante Woz. From what? I remember what it was taken snaps away from that kid. So I mean, what does that saved? How could this guy is? You know what I mean? Um You guys threw out a name the other day, and I was dying, laughing because it instantaneously another name popped up. You say Puget sound in automatically. I was thinking like our fight, And then you guys were talking about that was like, Hey, guys in my lifetime were you actually saved her at school and know the one guy that went It was crazy. It was like, you know, so I sort of got the thinking..

"I I love nothing more than a little early in the game. Just cuz you you know, he's he's coming through at this point. Like you just know it's going to happen last one will talk about just cuz it was related to Kyle Lowry not getting trade in, Georgia to Philadelphia. They did a nice job plucking him for really nothing did didn't give up much at all, but I will say Tony Bradley is a bit of a loss right now in that to me says they're very confident Joell embiid will come back and be fine because right now it's kind of Dwight Howard show in the middle until I'm beat gets back. I remember it was pretty clean out well for them. So so they're they're they're in a position where that that's a bigger loss and it looks like but as long as you think it'd be it's going to be fine and can go 35 minutes A Night in the playoffs. You're good song. Hey, I think they're fine. I think George Hill's a major upgrade for them as a backup guard on their second unit. I think he'll do really I mean they can already shoot it from three and he can certainly continue on with that the case but this was like I said an amazing trade deadline a lot more fun than we thought it was going to be way more action and that's always a good thing. So you gotta love it gotta love this league and the way the NBA handles these these transactional time periods. It's it's a lot of fun and glad that we got to experience that as exhausted as we are now. Yeah, absolutely. I'll take this over the the trade deadlines where it was. Yo, I remember your many many years ago. There's what deal was like Anthony Carter got traded in like that was like it and it was like, what was that just like I remember I think I skipped classes when that happened in back in college that year and I was like, oh no this isn't good. I remember a year very clearly. I called into work and one of the biggest trades Alexey shved got got dealt and it was like that was all was I skipped work for this. I blew a sick day. It could have been hanging out enjoying the sunshine but you know instead I was inside but yeah, I mean this was wild absolutely off my cap sheets are still a mess on the following through as quick as I can but those will be up on patreon pretty soon. But yeah, yeah, I guess we'll come back next week. We'll we'll talk about bio market and all that stuff and then we'll just start for our specific show here while we'll still talk about what's going on the week now, we'll we'll start to turn our eyes a little bit towards the offseason. That's right. That's right, which is going to come up before we even know it because the season is absolved. "You like you said if there's a player like that available to you at that spot i think you really have to strongly consider it. And let's be clear. Just because if the raiders were choose to go offense in the first round doesn't mean they can't address defense later in the draft doesn't mean you can't find offensive starters later in the draft in back layers later in the draft just because i mean the first round picks are always kind of the sexiest fought take is but you see all the time you find starters. Second third fourth round undrafted in. Especially when you look at gama. Gus bradley and his staff what they what. They're able to do developmentally. Defensive players I would feel even better about about possibly waiting until the second or third round address. The defense side of the ball depending on what you doesn't mean just neglect. There is a best player available defensively or if one of the top defensive players fall us a little bit based on fit. And he's there. Obviously you have to consider that too. But if i say smith i think is going to be a big time out of our zebra based on everything. I've seen from college in everything i've read like. Why wouldn't he be good. I'm not concerned about the slender frame. We've seen small receivers hold up and have long careers spinal on how to take care of yourself and avoiding it. And i think he's going to be able to do that. And he's certainly make the raiders offense a little more exciting that right now. Yeah at a you know. Touch it on the on the slight frame. He is a smallish a wide receiver. There's no question about it in terms of the The weight the length not too bad on the length. He's he's follow your average you'll lengthwise a nfl wide receiver but if you're looking for a cop The most recent player. That i think Fits that mold. Is marvin harrison the hall of famer. But also if you go back a little while on you grew up in minnesota. I think the this player probably predated you a little bit but i remember them And his name was anthony. Carter and from. The university of michigan tremendous tremendous player tremendous. Nfl wide receiver. This was before you know the The kind of passing numbers that we see nowadays. So don't get you know. Caught up too much on the statistics necessarily but go watch the film. Go watch anthony. Carter's film The the the body control the route running the elusiveness the separation and the hands. And when i watch devante smith You know that's the that's what he's the whole package as a wide receiver in the hands are district The speed the the the in and out of the of cuts Kind of footwork. And just how he is able to create separation. I you know i i. I was like guy. They're gonna go defense. But the more i thought about it. The more you think boy what. A great compliment Not just a compliment. But but what a great piece to have alongside of henry ruggs and then if you're projecting a little bit further bryan edwards. I think eventually is gonna Our ernest starting job as that. Big kind of kind of a wide receiver session. Yes exactly and then with hunter renfrow still being in. That mixes plenty of room for for hunter. Renfrow do his thing that would really you know in time that wide receiver room for the raiders would be would be off the charts but anyway i just wanted to throw that out you that out because you mentioned nelson agholor and i do think that he's obviously a priority but if they're not able to sign him then that's that makes a devante smith in the in the draft make you know A whole bunch of more sense. If he's available at number seventeen i think didn't sell good has played his way into a you know a a role a permanent role As a starter for the raiders. So i would think that he's definitely a priority. I think nicholas morrow is somebody that probably need to bring back You know. I i'd be in favor of bringing that entire Linebacker crew back more nicholas. Nickleby cory littleton and And giving that unit Another shot i think. There's there's talent there at their speed there. I think there's you know Football instincts there. And i think in the right system that could be a nice group You know As far as linebacker. I you know A lot depends on what happens in the draft and elsewhere in free agency vic beasley Not quite sure where he fits into the plans tack mckinley because he's such an unknown right now To see him at all you know sometimes that sometimes that helps 'cause you're like okay. Could he be like. You're you're thinking the best basically. What about tack mckinley. Is that something that you would You would bring back. I'm not quite sure what his market is. He was out there for quite a bit last year on multiple occasions after failing physicals I don't know if there's a market out there. So maybe that helps the raiders. Bring him back on a kind of a nice. Prove it sort of a deal if it was one of those contracts many short term. Maybe some incentives you know since incentives in there like you said you could possibly play your way into a new deal. I think he would make some sense right. I mean he's twenty five years old skyser first. Picks of the talent is there in. He had seven sack since one thousand eighteen in sixers a rookie twenty seventeen. I mean he can get after the quarterback. Nobody's saying he's one of these elite pass rushers but at this point with the raiders are at if you can get any type of help at pass rush especially at value or some kind of discount or something. That's that's team friendly. I think you really have to consider that. And like you said mckinney. Only played four games last year. No you didn't suit up for the raiders at any point so I it's hard to judge what he was. What he brought to the table with the raiders towards the end of the season there when he was with the team like feeling physicals. Just trying to work out and get his body right and get it together but but some upside there. You still young player. I think that that has the town that has some upside that has some ability in on the right situation. In the right contract you will make sense as kind of a supplementary player. In addition to whatever they go out do in terms of addressing the pig holes in terms of their pass rush and upfront so he makes sesame for sure and is an interesting option given his age and given that he has produced at i level before in the past yeah and from the players perspective You know he got a chance to to to land here And spend time here in las vegas at the facility Get to know the area get to know. The you know the different events coaching south. But but certainly you're jon gruden and that that side of the ball teammates and whatnot. You know i. I'm with you i you know he's not gonna he's obviously not gonna break the back with without question but There's probably a sweet spot. There that makes sense for the raiders at makes sense for tac mckinley in a way that You know can get him back out on the open market To take advantage should he cash in and play really well. So i think if there's a deal that could be structured in a way that The raiders can get a really good look at him. Whether it's you know for for this one year with an option On year to make a player option on your to In a way that he's allowed to To to go back on the open market should he play really well. That's fair and i think from his perspective. Why not i mean You're here You got to spend some time here you and so i wouldn't be surprised if he comes back but again like you said the money's going to be you know obviously The priority in terms of making sure that you know They do it in the right way. In a way. That's going to you know Make sense for both sides but also not break the bank. So and i think they're carrier is just one of those kinda stallworth pillar type of guys And and you know he's a guy that knows his role in those. I hate to say this but his place But you know guys like give a lot of respect to because we'll be reliable veterans special teams contributor voice in the locker room. You know been there done that. Breaks play seventy percents. Special teams napster. Many that's that matters right. Yeah absolutely and i would love to find out what his career earnings are. Because you can. He's he's sort of a lesson in the.

"Don't even know I'm sorry, JJ George Rogers. Now George Rogers won the Heisman Trophy in 1980. Anyway. It was Steve Smith. Oh, wow, really. Well, there's an article about it. I'm one of those websites. I don't remember him being that high. But the list. I thought you said he was the number two. I remember his first game in 1981 against Wisconsin. I think you went my three for 21 passing And never do the vomit. Anthony Carter, and we lost our number one ranking from Wisconsin. Still remember now JJ Sam Web crystal balled him to Michigan over Wisconsin. When Sam was like, five years old. It was his first ever crystal ball. Do you think people He wanted Order Michigan State and going in there and crawled over the table. Told me you're going to Michigan. We have Anthony Carter and I was really surprised Jamie you mentioned in all the greatest players in Michigan history. He didn't mention the greatest player, really, haven't I? Yes, I did. Leave Willie tested out because I wanted to egg agitate you so you would call in and let everybody know. My God. It was over when we have gone over 1000 times, But the other one you left out might be the greatest athlete ever at Michigan, then Rooster mine All American three times that football all American and basketball and all Big 10 in baseball, and he coached off a sports at Michigan. His numbers retired in that 40 isn't a 47. One of those numbers. These women with you? Yeah. Well, he's one the greatest of all time. We've had 23 time all Americans. Here. Many Anthony Carter And listen. I have what we have to hang it in my office and I have two pictures of Anthony Carter, his first touchdown catch at Brighton, Michigan. Yes, Northwestern, and this last touchdown catch ever at Michigan Stadium against pronounce And when he caught that one day, the whole stadium started chanting. Hey, C A C A C. I'll never forget that. What a what A guy was that Philly guy Sure knows what the heck he's talking about. Have. I will say that you remember all that stuff going back? I have no idea Who your guy that could shoot 48% from the field that 90% for the free throw line. Don't thing that comes to mind is a spartan in Paul Davis. What is it? Paul Davis witness. It's not. It's a good guess. No, obviously wouldn't be a spartan on this stuff. I lose it. You could shoot 90% from the fleet thought line, especially in college. You're pretty damn good. But Jamie remember when you were growing up the A. C C with Ralph Sampson, who doesn't get any love for the greatness that he had in college free.

"He was a hero of mine in junior high just and then a little high school too, But Think about what he did when the Big 10, especially Michigan, and Ohio State, Those offensives were absolutely in the stone age, You know, Neighbor run dominant teams, and I think there was some big names in the Big 10 at receiver from the sixties like Gene Washington from Michigan State War field from My highest state, but really the salad years of the Big 10? What was the big two in a little late? It was it was. It was three yards and a cloud of dust. Still be kidding. In 80 kind of brought them out of that stone age. I remember watching a Tele case telecast on the same early two thousands. And I don't know if you guys remember David Norrie, but he was a quarterback for U C. L A. And he later became an analyst and I don't know the subject came up during like, you know, door like downtime, and it came and he was just gushing about Anthony Carter, and he was pretty much saying what I was saying. It's like And I know if you guys remember, but I referred to him as the godfather of college football wide receivers, all the great receivers that you've seen. It's the conversation starts with little number one from Riviera Beach, Florida It starts there, and nobody's gonna tell me different. Think about what he would have done because when both retired and Mueller took over, and he's suped up that offense, I mean he really Emmy, the passing game become much more advanced. When Mueller took over, Uh, think about what he would have done if he was in Desmond slot. I personally think Desmond made more plays than anybody's ever awarded wing helmet, but I think he was also a product of Of the change in the offense, the emphasis and sophistication of the passing game. I really think that he benefited that. Not to mention I think Sam said in the morning that you know if Alexander doesn't get hurt. Uh, that also increases the amount of opportunities as well. But boy, I just I would just love to have seen Anthony Carter and and there's more advanced offenses, especially You know, with with Away the kids that were playing like Mark East Walker and that whole crew. Can you imagine him in those offenses? I can't even match think about this. Jerry Rice is with that question. Probably the greatest football player ever right where it leads to this position anyway. Anthony Carter. Absolutely. Blew him away in the 1987 playoffs and that 1987 San Francisco team. We're supposed to be a team for the ages because they totally wrecked the NFL that year, and then Minnesota just went in there, and Anthony had 10 catches for 227 yards and Jerry Jerry Rice of all people was an afterthought, and he just Anthony Carter literally dominated the NFL playoffs in 1987. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas on the goal line and RFK. But will you come to the right place? If you want to talk Carter like we don't have any. Carter. You're talking about boy here. He's Yeah, I think that's like for me and he's the first player that I could remember a little bit of Robledo. But he was the first guy that really Remember, And I thought he was like a superhero. And I thought it was one of those things. You remember when you're young. One of player leaves you don't get it like you're thinking. Wait. I thought he got to play at Michigan for his whole life. You know that sucked. And I always thought when I would you know, I always thought Well, if I ever get a chance to interview Bo, I'll tell him like, Oh, my God. Like Bo. I was just a young kid and he was wearing the tearaway jerseys and it was awesome. And he was the greatest ever and I I said, you know, Bo, I cried because I thought You know, the Anthony could stay at Michigan forever in both said I did, too, and I loved it. It was a great response to 1983. And I kind of touched on that last week as well. What it was just It was awful when you first turned on that TV during the 83 season, and Jamie I guess you are redshirt freshman that year, but It was the first year of his life. It was life without Anthony and I'm telling you, it was a major. It was a major hangover for these half a season. And of course, yeah, they had a nice you guys. You guys have a nice year 10 million Afghan Sugar Bowl. We talked about that, but It was life without him. It was kind of like watching the ad Metin Oilers for the first time about Wayne Gretzky. That's That's how I felt like it was that much of Ah Okay, there's something missing here. A C is not here. Boy, you could just you was just a big difference without having him but, uh, She might have been bigger in the pros. E. If you didn't go to the USFL, you know, won the championship with the with the Michigan Panthers and those of the greatest uniforms. He was awesome. He had the number one for the Michigan Panthers. He was dominant there. And before he went to the Vikings and you know. Oh, yeah. Hey, I got a phone call. I was working in a pizza shop, and people don't realize this, but the Miami Dolphins had the rights to Anthony Carter. And I got it. I'm working at this piece of place in the summer of 85. My friend calls me he says. Guess what I said The Vikings just traded for the rights to Anthony Carter and the Dolphins. And I think I think the Dolphins got a decent linebacker. From Texas. His name was Robin son line. He was OK, but he wasn't in the great chicks on we we got Anthony Carter, that snake of what he would have done. I mean, you really think that that kind of morphed into Clayton and duper could you match his phone? Anthony Carter in there, too? With those two? You gotta be kidding me. That would have just been insane, but anyway He turned out to be a Viking and I still remember getting that phone call and poured out, worked out great for Minnesota because the Vikings were actually made. They made some nice runs in the late eighties man, but unfortunately You know, there's a Vikings and you already know it Z going to add on a sad note, But man, it's a little bit. It's a bad day. Just remember, man. My childhood was marred. You know my entire childhood Michigan and the Vikings always ended their season with a loss. The first time in my in my childhood that the Vikings or or Michigan ended the season and the wind was that 1980 team that and in that one in the Rose Bowl. Can you imagine that? I mean, I'm a son of the scar child grown up. I'm telling you right now, but even gotta go. Please take the phone call you tomorrow. Do you like? Okay, 734999% 50. Let's go down badly..

"If this is the end zone still expand. Welcome back to him Zone Jamie Mars, then it's 15. Over in the possible hall. We have Matt Mr on the Wanted dues. 734 1918 57 34 1918 50. Jamie. We have been talking about pizza and then And retiring numbers and statues and everything else, but I wanted to put a trivia question out there. I know this is a little bit like last week for the Super Bowl, but it's an interesting one. And I want to see if anybody can answer it. If nobody can. I will give the answer at 5 39. The trivia question is There has been only one player in college basketball since 2000 and eight So we're talking about over 10 years 12 years. There's only been one player since 2000 and eight to average at least 14.5 points less than a turnover and a half per game, shoots 48% from the field and shoots 90% from the line on Lee one player. In college basketball, and the last 12 years has been able to do it. Can you name that player? That's just out there as an aside if anybody wants to take a shot at it at 5 39. I will give you the answer to the only player since 2000 and eight Average 14.5 less than a turnover and a half per game shoots at least 48% from the field and 90% from the charity stripe. Well, I know it's not LeBron James because he didn't play in college basketball, but such 73498 10 15, let's go to Mr Positive. What's up, Mr Positive? How you doing? Oh, my God. Fantastic! Dennis, my man, eh? Good to hear you, my friend. Good to hear you. Um Don't have any clue as to who that is. I'm thinking of luaus on cinder, a k a cream Abdul Jabbar, but I wouldn't know that's a great question. But Oh, Well, you know what? It's nice to have Ah, real positive call to start things out here in the five o'clock hour. If you bench is, um Um, other than that, I just cut the tail and whatever the subject today, you said pizza. And what else did you bring up? We're looking for. We're looking for the Super Bowl favorites for next year. And what? Michigan Shaken football. Where were they finished? What do you think? Next year. Just the prediction. Oh, prediction, right? Super Bowl. I'm gonna think my homes is gonna learn from this and they're gonna work around him better. And he'll win it. Um, God forbid, Prady win it again. Apologies in Michigan with Jim Harbaugh. I think that man lives on another planet, but I would have to say You know he might go. I forget how many games you have? Do they do 12? How many games do they do, 12? There might go eight and four. I don't think they've changed so I don't see it. I don't see them going very high. You know what? I went through the schedule the revised schedule that was put out justice. So what was it late last week or Monday? I don't remember which one but I picked 842. Very good, Dennis. Great minds think alike. Hey, real quick. You working out still standing great shape. Am I am trying to get to that part. I am trying to get to that point. Yes, Very good. Hey, love your brother and I'll talk to you soon And thanks for taking my call Everybody. And always remember, you start with the dream. And then you believe your thoughts become magic, and then you achieve go for it. Have a good night. You guys Thanks for taking my call like that right there. Iced. I love starting this out with Mr positive because now it's a positive feeling. 03 418 50. Are you feeling me? Philly Eat. Are you positive brother? Absolutely, you know, may I'm usually have class. So I guess what? That you guys got a lot of frigging nerve. You guys jump down my fricking neck or Friday about pizza. Now, all of a sudden, you guys were pizza connoisseurs, But you guys didn't even belong on on your table for the supermarket. That's got a lot of nerve. You know that. You have made it to seat, actually. Yeah. You know, why don't you go back and listen, I was with you on pizza. He's got it. No, no. Yeah. It was me with the fellas in the hearts of pizza. It was me. It was me. I I'm not a look. I need a cold pizza after the Super Bowl. You right about that? But not in the beginning. And you didn't say chicken wings or anything. And you didn't even put the Philly sandwich down. You know, I mean, God, Pizza, man. You need a good pizza pie, Jamie. And you know what? You can't have too much cheese on it. The sauce has got a bleed through. It up, Tony Right now You gotta have a meat on their sausage. Onion. Well done. That's how you do it, baby. That's a pizza. Anyway, Let me get started. First of all, we're going 10 wins, and I'm going to tell you why. First of all, we got the quarterback whisper who has already lost his reputation, But now he's actually going to prove that he really is. He's got the quarterbacks this year. We're gonna fix that. We already got Bellamy and heart into really that we're got alums in there Now. They're gonna work on the culture, right? We got used. We got you have enthusiasm. Oh, I love that. And you already know, heart's going to straighten out that running back disaster that we, you know, we call the rotation last year. Uh, if you guys peep, the If you keep the schedule, I mean, it starts off. Kind of like building blocks a mean there's very winnable games in Aaron, and that helps a couple things. First of all, it's going to help with confidence. All right, Number two. It's gonna buy us some time for when we actually come up with better, better competition. We're working at scheme issues were working out personnel issues so that by this time And here's another thing I love. I think a lot of these gone, They're breaking in a new quarterback, and we have Ohio State and home so they will be quarterback lobbies coming back. Oh, Christ, that guy art Well, okay, So who knows? And I said this last week, maybe the roll snake eyes on a quarterback for once. You know what I mean? You know, not every four or five star quarterback works out. I think I think the law of averages I mean, are they do for for a bus at the quarterback? Because all the guys that have been 45 star quarterbacks don't work out and transfer, So I'm hoping that's going to happen now. You've touched on one of my favorite subjects of all time. You guys talked about the most electric dangerous man on the football field named Anthony Carter and I said the other day or yesterday that we were talking about 1980. Herschel was the best player. You know what A C was the most dangerous He was just I just absolutely loved the guy..

"Zone still explain. All right, it is the zone look or issue with miss here. The five o'clock hour on this eventful day here in the United States is The service your distraction as we talk about what's going on in the world of sports, especially what's going on right here in Ann Arbor with one Jim Harbaugh and also what's going on on the hardwood tonight in a squared, and that is Michigan trying to stay undefeated in Taking on Minnesota. All of that is fair game here. Forya 734998 10 50. That is the number to get in. We do ask you about this. Harbaugh extension and When does that optimism term to pessimism for you? And then for Michigan basketball? We ask you this. This can be difficult for some can be very easy for others. But we're asking you for a comparison. Hunter Wilkinson. The Michigan freshman center. Who does he remind you off? Don't have to be a Michigan player Don't have to be college could be a pro. And have to be even funnier doesn't have to be a lefty. But 7 FT. Ready? Maybe somebody that you could bring up you know earlier, Jamie. Somebody mentioned it was not somebody was Antoine's Robert. He said to me a little bit of Tim McCormick. Jim McCormick, a seven footer A guy that played at Michigan. I have done. That's great comparison. I can I can see 100 Dickinson to McCormick. That's an excellent comparison. You know, night it was. It was Dan Dockage, who was the color analyst There was was that new years? That was the Maryland game, right? I think that he did. Yep, I did He mention it. Or did he say that somebody out? Maybe it was the play by play guy that said, Hey, away, blob now! Yeah. Dad heard the name away, Blah. But you know what? Who A blob is. A 7 Ft Center from Indiana Back in the day and Oh, yeah, he was big white dude. So there you go. OK, what happens, you know, and for me, He's not a center foot seven footer, but he's a guy that currently place He plays for Illinois. His name is Bazan ish. Really. He's a left. Yeah, he's doing what he said. I think he's listed 6869. But he is remind the first time I saw Dickinson. But Sean is really came to my so there's a comparison for me. And as we move on, Jamie will see if Jamie's prediction comes to fruition this hour, or Jim Harbaugh signs on the dotted line, and that extension becomes reality. Right here for the Michigan football team, All right? Let's go to the phones and we welcome in. Anthony, You're on the end zone. Hey, Anthony. Happy down here. What's up? Avenue year. All right? Yeah, put out the name that much shrimp. Nice. I like that left trip. That's a good at that. That's a good one. Pacers mad. Remember him? Yeah, Yeah, yeah, Then the shrimp? Yeah, I'm gonna put that name here. Desert shrimp? Uh, um Probably play with the Seattle SuperSonics. We may have I look up at it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, That's why No one game from and I've just tell Jimmy the sign so we can get this thing over with man. Uh, the boys a ball it and, uh, speaking of Robert reference I met a guy that went to high school with him today. "So write them on Twitter, a low radio or showed Twitter after our CBS and then our Facebook page will put a post up there as well. 855 to 124227. Jane is listening in Michigan. Dan, you got about two minutes. Go. Okay, I have a couple of things, but Validation it I was so happy that he won high since you reminds me of a guy that played it. Michigan and late seventies early eighties Anthony Carter. I mean both electric Electric players. And it would have been a passing quarterback, and the Carter would have won the Heisman because he was that electric. But my one question you aren't asking me anything. Did you ever think about having kids? And we don't do asking me anything for another two hours, so I can't be asking answering questions now. Well, you can answer it later. Anything else about football or well? As fires the quarterbacks that are available Hope Matthew Stafford available for someone else because Blows. Right, but There's a lot of that. I think there are a lot of questions about in the NFL. A lot of questions for sure. I couldn't disagree with you more about math. Stafford, though, of all the reasons why step why the Lions lose. Stafford is not one of them. I mean, he's so tough. I think he might be the real life. Thor actually s. Oh, he's gonna be AH, attractive commodity if they're well, if the Lions too, so let him go, and they choose to part ways me. He's been so steadfast and and wanting to play in Detroit, even passing up. Opportunities to go elsewhere. He's so loyal, which is rare in sports, but I hope that he has an opportunity to move on. If that's something that he really wants to do now, maybe he does now. So on Twitter after our CBS, then your questions for asking me anything. We will not be doing that right now, because that's not how we do things around here. You know, we're gonna wait until the the 4 A.m. eastern time. Our the 1 A.m. Pacific time our and it'll be our first ask Amy anything of the new year. And then on our Facebook page, you could send your questions there as well. Excited to hear your thoughts about the potential available NFL quarterbacks and coming up next hour, we will talk to Steve Wife of NFL network and get his.

"Back to Enzo. Anymore, Dennis 50 and Matt the hitman, This is ever gonna go right to the phones, 7349 and 18 50. Let's go to run. Hey, Ron. Happy New Year, guys. How are you? Happy New Year Greater I've been listening of, basically since you started, and Dennis I I've more or less fall in two years. You're courting your views on this thing. I look at Jim. Hardball is the you Them made a huge investment in in hiring him and they paid ah lot of money out, and they've gotten very little result. You look at his record, It's average at best. You know, uh, 49 22, I believe is his record. That's not outstanding. And of course, they will have state record in the bowl records or just abysmal. Um You have to ask yourself would be elite programs put up with a record like that or a coach. That's you know, come in and spent six years with a record like that Alabama club center Ohio State. I don't think they would. They only know we know Texas wouldn't Well, in order to media, Auburn and Texas to me are the equivalent of wire. Michigan is right now, you know, uh, not. They were elite programs at one time, and they're struggling to get back. But they wouldn't tolerate it. I mean, they got rid of their coaches, and they had better records. Michigan has been relevant in the big 10 for almost two decades now, and we've seen Wisconsin and Iowa basically, uh, replaced Michigan as far as status in my opinion. And I look at Jim horrible after six years and you look at him when he was at Stanford and then the proles, and then they're in Michigan. You know, he's been under a lot of pressure and expectations and in all these positions Maybe he's burning out. Maybe maybe the desire and the fire is left in. Because, like I said, I think we're all been disappointed the last several years on what we see on the field, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of, uh, you know, uh, fire and you know what I see on the sidelines. Hey, hey, He's not getting the best out of his players him in the staff, and so you know, I'm all in for a change. And if you go to the pros so bit, I mean, like I said, Michigan has invested a lot of money and gotten very little in return on this whole deal. And, uh, something, the real, uh, not that significant. Whoever's coaching this team, I wish you'd do two things. Get rid of those God awful white road uniforms. And go back to two captains on the team. You don't need 789 10 captains That was different for this year. That was for this year, though, Ron, I mean, he had been doing that. Very well. No, you didn't work out. But you know, you can understand. Hey, was trying to make leadership as part of the whole thing. Sorry about that Run. If we hung up on you 734 1918 50. You know there's got to be really eat. Oh, go ahead. Sorry. Hey, What's up? Happy holidays, gentlemen. I didn't realize when I called you for your last show that that was actually the last show to the holidays. I had no idea, eh? So I feel like a heel. So happy holidays. I'm sorry I missed it. But I'm just glad you guys are back. All's right with the world again. Almost, uh, First of all, I just wanna do my comment. About what With JJ. I love the 85 team. Absolutely loving it. But you know what? Okay. Be careful. Eat. I love 85 thrown. 80 80 was tremendous. They had that three headed monster in the backfield. Uh, the offensive line on. Of course, they had the most electric dangerous man to put on that uniform. Anthony Carter. The godfather of college football wide receivers. And to me, that's the topper. And, of course, like I said, they won the Rose Bowl at handle Lee. I don't even think they gave up the puss down in the last 20 quarters, so, but I love 85 at that. You know, Of course, you guys broke my heart against another way. They showed that game the other day in Iowa on Big 10. And JJ was comment since I was favorite. That's Iowa's Whenever Iowa has a football classic. They show that damn game, every e he's always gonna throw my man after the bus. It's a royal oak a trap in the air Saturday. You know, calling him out. But there's a lot of things that could happen in that game. That should have happened in that game with me. We wouldn't have lost. So stop calling about Oh, speaking of it, since you're on the phone, the Larry station is that Miss Proctor. They just time that flips up real good. And he got you way didn't get that hit. We didn't get that block. I kind of figured that because you know what we get a couple first downs there of women that came but You know what Philly than 2016 Iowa game gets under my skin a little bit, too. If you look back in the fourth quarter, I know Spade got hurt, but they had in the fourth quarter. The offense had a chance to win that game. The defense had a chance to win that game. The special teams had a shot to win that game in all three Let him you know, they let him go. No one's sister dance. What? Know what played lost that game When the world it was the wildcat. They read the Wildcats, Not the fault of the real peppers into real was running around that you loved your bro in the Wildcat. You're right about that. You loved me. It's a brilliant A wildcat, the world from work If you actually show the past once against somebody bad with a 20 point lead, So we've never, ever thought we were saving that pass for Ohio State, But we never did it. Right. So what the hell is the sense of running it if you were never gonna trick somebody, but whatever. Yeah, well, the other thing in there is you have to have a guy that can throw the ball and you have to throw a high percentage past. You know what kind of all the quarterbacks and all the throws and I watched this weekend. Nobody was running up to the line and fraud it directly right in the middle of the field, like, you know, they tried to do with Haskins. That just doesn't happen. It's geometry it zip. It was bad conceived. Bad. Everything you know involved in that do something where you have an angle. They had no angle there. Well, the other day of the argument is too. Why are you running wild cat when you already have a door straight quarterback that makes no we're talking about except that now that we know that that.

"You have the line of scrimmage now taking care of, But now you need some dues. Some straight news. They can fly. That's the that's the one lacking component for Notre Dame. Are you sold on Devante Smith next level? Oh, yeah. I mean, he's He's a good as you've seen. Maybe, but we've had rugs before, and I don't I don't know. It feels like there is that Alabama receiver and He does have that burst like there's something about him. He gets around the corner, and then he just does something that is completely different than anybody else that I've seen in a long time. He's like Anthony Carter at Michigan, like he's thin. He's really small, but you know they can. They can bully around in the NFL, so I I don't know. I will say this about that. I do think you can get bull in the NFL. But now you're starting to see so much so many systems that protect you from that and stacking wide receivers behind each other. I see my comparison for him is Marvin Harrison. I think he's because he's his routes are exceptional. He catches he's not big, but he catches 50 50 balls really big. He catches come. He comes back to the football. He's great after the catch, and his routes are very precise. I would have told you that about rubs a year ago. I'll tell you rugs can flat fly. He can run as well as anybody the country but He was in his detailed in this routes as a guy like Vontae Smith the Monday Smith, I think is a home run. Now, listen, Jerry. Judy was too but Jerry duties withdrew lock in Denver. I mean, your situation definitely dictates how well you could be, but he's definitely a guy. He's a top 10 pick in the NFL, and I think he could do some damage in the right system. But I also wondered about this, though. David when you're trying to assess like to, uh You know, I see to it with the Dolphins, and he feels a little exposed. Where is Joe Burrow? I was curious if he was going to be exposed, not having those weapons in Cincinnati. You know Justin Herbert with the Chargers. Trying to assess how good a quarterback is like. I don't know how good Mack Jones is..

"So you sign on with the. Usfl our did that did crush you in any particular way. Because that was the measure a professional football absolutely not i never planned on at some point ronn when when people were turning me down and tell me i was too small. I gave up on that dream of playing professional football. I just wanted to get an education. That's why i went to cal and so the usa failure and pay me twenty five thousand dollars. Yes i'll do it and for me. It was just trying out. I'll never forget i. There were twenty six linebackers. I was probably twenty seventh on the depth chart. That's how bad it was when they told me i made the team was. It was unbelievable. But what i remember most about that. Lebron is that guys that were there for the most part either. Weren't good enough to play in the nfl or they'd already been cut by an nfl team and the enthusiasm. The intensity was unbelievable. I i hear what the chargers i was. I was looking around like you guys have no idea. You should have played in the nf and the us fell. Those guys were intense. I mean there was a every once in a while in training camp in the nfl. Football play with breakout amongst the brawl. Because we had scrimmages every day there were four teams down there in arizona. I can't remember them all. But i know that the amazon wrangler and the denver gold. And somebody else. And we would scrimmage three days a week and a scrimmage is like a game you wanna talk. I mean those are concussion after concussion happening in practice so It was it was amazing to go to the nfl. Afterwards i thought i died and gone to heaven. What was the early days of the usfl. Like because i've heard from the guys that were in the afl in those early days especially the new york jets where they would get paid and they would go in their uniform practice uniform to the bank and stand in line because they weren't sure that their checks were actually going to be any good. I've heard just great wars and we were so fortunate with the oakland invaders. Toby was our owner and he never missed a payroll but we did fly when we had merged with the michigan panthers. And all those guys bobby. A better and carter The wide receiver a great team. We were. I think we were something like fifteen in one. We played eighteen games. Seasons in the usa fell. We were going down to play the sorry san antonio gunslingers and they hadn't been paid in six weeks so they decided forty five minutes before the game they were telling the coaches and the owners were not playing so guys from their team and from the invaders were sitting in the stands before the game forty five minutes before drinking beer and then suddenly like fifteen minutes before game time. They showed up with certify checks clinton merchant. I think was the owner of the team. And all of a sudden these guys were geeked they were jacked and we played the game ron. They were kicking our butts until a last minute. Fourth and eighteen yard catch by anthony carter for us to win the game. We were getting beat by the worst team in the league. Their story after story we we do a lot of charity. Events with steve young and he tells stories about Literally the bus drivers stopping in a parking lot halfway from where their practice facility was and where they stayed in some fleabag motel and said i'm not going a one inch further until i get paid. Steve young had to get out of the bus. Go to an atm. Get six hundred bucks and pay the driver in order to get back to the hotel. It was crazy and but it it built character. It was fun it was intense and it was built with a ton of guys that just loved playing the game. That might be the biggest. Shocker in the nfl. There are a lot of guys even to this day. The don't play for the love of the game and the usfl. I would say ninety. Five percent of the guys loved football. We got about ninety seconds left. But i hear the same thing about the afl. And i think that has been lost. Is that because of the money factor in professional football absolutely. I was recently up there in seattle. Helping kenny norton. Who's now they're defensive coordinator former teammate. he just wanted me to kind of observed things and i asked him what the biggest difference was. He said. you know we. You and i am leeward. All a bunch of guys would stay after practice. And we'd watch film together ethan. These guys the car is running and beat before practices even over and they are sprint. They don't even take a shower they just sprint to their car and get out of there so the camaraderie isn't there and he said that's the biggest difference in today's game and it's because of the money as it hurt the quality of football. Well i i think that as he said there are better athletes today but they don't know the game as well because the dedication and commitment of jerry rice of ken norton of junior ceo. Just isn't there. And i think it's kind of i don't even know who. What were you use to describe this if you think about professional football day. It wasn't like the practices of the old days where you guys were out there on the field for a long time. It's boop boop boop boop absolutely everything is shortened up and it's for the safety of these players and that's all regulated by the nfl players association now. There used to be two practices there in training camp right now. Too padded practices day. Now they can't ever have more than one each day and i. It's never more than two days in a row.
