"Alfredo and then he's been a guest on the podcast before and i've always found him to be an honest and engaging interviews. I wanted to have him back and pick his brain about what. It's like being a rookie. That here in nascar cup series. Because the last time. I talked to anthony he was trying to wrap his head around being one of the drivers in one of the famed. Richard childress racing cars in the xfinity series. And now he's in the deep end of the pool and it's not easy to swim in the deep end so basically the angle of this conversation as i said was to just get inside his head of what. It's like this year being a rookie and a lot of our conversation centers on trying to keep his head on straight. How involved he is with the team. Why the cup series is so hard how he is training differently. Any moments of frustration. Of course having more critics at the cup level so again very open and honest and i appreciate anthony doing that because it makes it easy to ask questions like that because i know he's going to give a very straightforward answer so a lot of the conversation centers on that. But we do get in a sponsor plug because anthony is going to have a new sponsor this weekend at michigan. So we're going to end the conversation on that stay tuned here about it and i also ask him some fun stuff such as why he posts videos on social media after races to engage with you the race fan how his life has changed as a cup series driver and even what he's been doing on some heavy equipment lately if you follow him on social media you might have seen he's been he's been on some heavy machinery and i was very curious why so again i appreciate anthony coming back on the podcast and i hope you enjoyed the conversation. Here is anthony. Alfredo on the racing writers podcasts..

"Logano's mirrors are full wants to Benedetto is there Chastain is there as well? Solid three car fight for now for fifth and further back, Alex. We were watching a battle five wide as they made their way across the start finish line. Truax was penalized. On pit road a few laps ago, man. Oh, man, he had him stacked up. He was almost in the grass. Yeah, he was with Austin Dillon back there with him. He had Anthony Alfredo. There. He had Ryan Newman in the mix Those drivers at the tail into the lead lap cars exiting turn number two still jockeying for position. Everybody trying to fight for their piece of real estate there. One of those Chase Elliott, just trying to break out of that. He was running up front a few moments ago. Now he's got a lot of work to do to get back to the point. How about Ricky Stenhouse Jr going after Kyle Busch battle for second? It's on and it's over. Yeah, he made short work of it just pushed his way up underneath. Kyle Busch. No contact coming off four. He just flat drove on by to take over second place further back. William Byron just put it Eric camera rolling off the bottom of the racetrack. Here's William Byron. Sliding underneath Al Merola Al Merola challenging back though, at the end of the back straightaway, one car starting to get it going a little bit. Kevin Harvick and grave Digger cars got himself up in the eighth position right now. Harvey. It's been kind of up and down through this field. He's had a tough year this year. Have a tough time getting this car handling good, but the day it's getting better and better as this race goes on, it is indeed as Kevin Harvick Continues to soldier on. He's in the back half of the top 10 being scored in position Number eight. Here's a look at the top 10 as they run right now, for the most part single file at the front of the field. Kyle Larson. He leads Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano is your top five. The rest of the top 10, Matt DiBenedetto, Ross Chastain, Kevin Harvick, Christopher Bell and Cole Custer. "Back here in Nashville Superspeedway Pit Lane is indeed open. Jason looks like Austin Dillon and Bubba Wallace have come in a couple of guys that have been running towards the back trying to get the adjustments right to work their way towards the front coming in making the adjustment, Satan he didn't some tires getting some fuel and an ice cold Coca Cola the beverage as well to try to contain hydrated here this afternoon, See Post Chassis adjustment for Kevin Harvick. He was a little loose on the first run. They made an adjustment during that pit stop, but now make a little bit more adjustment on the car. They were toward the back of the lead like cars. So there's Harvick that grave digger paint scheme headed back out under the speedway here as he pits on Latin number 57. Now let's take a look at the leaderboard brought to you by Skechers Skechers, the comfort and fit specialists. Try. Skechers. Relaxed, fit wide fit. Stretch fit, arch fit and many more 32 laps to go in stage number one. Kyle Larson leading over. Kyle Busch, Joey Logano right now. Third in front of Chase Elliott. Kurt Busch is fifth. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Sixth. Eric Al Merola, the pole sitter. 7th 8th belongs to Eric Jones. Anthony Alfredo is ninth and Michael McDowell completes the top. 21st is Alex Moment. 12th is Justin Haley, Chris Buscher Goes 13th and Matt DiBenedetto 14th. He's being scored 37 2 cars out of the race in 38th, and we'll finish There is Ryan Blaney and 39th after a turn one lap one crash Quinn house again now 31 laps to go in stage number one. Mike Bagley, let's bring you in on this. Kyle and Kyle Show turned out to be and granted. It was only a short run, but it turned out to be Kyle, Kyle Joey chasing Kurt. In other words, Maybe those pit stops for some of the other drivers has Made them a little bit better and closer to the Kyle and Kyle show. Well, that's the hope, and that's the prayer coming from a lot of crew chiefs down on Bit Road. Alright, boys. What do we need to put in these race cars to keep up pace with the with the two Kyle's at the front of the field Now we've only got a couple of laps, and it seemed like that over the course of the long run. Larson and Kyle Busch cars got stronger while everybody else was laboring and just trying to make do with with what they had, as many opportunities to come down pit road to two can tweet to tune and tweak on these cars will be much welcomed by the drivers and the cruise, except for the two at the front of this field that are setting the pace and being the maestros at this race so far absolutely are and These drivers all out here today. Racing for the trophy is not one but two trophies, and we'll try to describe both of them for you. One of them is a brick pylon with the old neon sign like what you would see in Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. That Neon sign is the Nashville Superspeedway logo and Dave Moody, the other one. Is a familiar and famous Gibson guitar. It is indeed, of course, the Gibson guitars for many, many years, the personal purview of our late friend, the great NASCAR artist Sam Bass, who put his personal test on so many of those guitars over the years, they unveiled a special commemorative guitar yesterday honoring Sam's memory. It will remain on.

"Seven. So they need to track bar adjustment and keep in mind that these teams can go the entire first stage with about a 31 lap fuel window for the Sunoco fuel so they can They can easily make it to the end of stage one without having to come in for fuel. That is our sonoco fuel mileage window update. Fill up your top tier Fill up with top tier certified Sunoco Ultratech today. Here's what's so fascinating Doug about this, So those guys pitted for tires before the competition caution. No fuel. Now the guys who didn't pit they took on fuel and tires. So they may pick up some track position. Maybe try to go the rest of the way through stage number two, which is only 20 laps. They may try to go the rest of the way on those tires again, trying to score points. Get some track position for that second stage, and it looks like when all of this cycles through with that group that just came onto pit road, the ones that elected stay at the first time that Kyle Larson will be scored our leader when we get back to green flag racing. This, really it had the opportunity to jumble the field. I think the impact is going to be minimal, and I think, though, Doug, this will play out long term. We don't know exactly these two strategies, which one will play out the best down towards the end of the race. But surely we have a number of cars on a completely different path right now, then the leader Kyle Larson. Let's go up to turn seven. Brad Gilley. How do they stack up when they get up to the top of the hill in front of you now? Well, right now we've got Kyle Larson in front of Chase Elliott, William Byron. Then it's Kyle Busch. Martin Truex Jr. Fifth Behind this group of cars. Anthony Alfredo is actually right there in the freight. I can tell you this is Anthony Alfredo breaks hard Return seven. He's locking him up just about every single lap, Alex moments behind him. It's going to be kind of interesting to see how this restart goes. So we're being scored as Brad talked about. Larson, Elliott, Byron Kyle Busch fourth. Ryan Blaney, fifth. Martin Truex Jr scored six the rest of our top 10, Anthony Alfredo. Alex Bowman, Austin Dillon. In that ninth spot. The light is off on that Toyota camera TRD Pace car as they ease ended turned 10, which is that big, sweeping right hand turn at end of the view of Rob Albright. A variety of pit stop strategies have shaken something's up among the top 10 with the aforementioned Alfredo being shown in that seventh position. But Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott from the drop of the green have.

They were gonna have to go. 78 laps where the challenge is, is that the fuel window I heard was 92, possibly 94 laps. This is about a 96 lap run. Now We've got caution Flags here. "83 Kyle Larson, now seven seconds. And closing rapidly. Kyle last pitted on lap 1 22 Alex your calculator in your crystal ball, says Stenhouse to pit road win. I'm guessing another 4 to 5 laps or so, given the fact that the tires are wearing out he's gonna be out of the throttle longer in the middle of the corners. Which means when you're not pushing the gas pedal, you're saving fuel. He may be able to go Just a tick further than that, But he's not going to be able to go the next 23 laps in this state. Well, we'll keep an eye on Ricky will also keep an eye on Anthony Alfredo Daniel Suarez, Michael McDowell. Whole Custer. Those of the drivers have pitted back on left 83. Everybody else got service in and around lap 1 19 to 1 22. Looking him off in a hurry. Here Absolutely are. We're in the midst of our longest green flag run of the afternoon. 53 consecutive green flag laps. Knock on wood. We've only been slowed by two caution flags for a total of 10 laps. First caution was the competition caution that NASCAR had scheduled a lap 25 the second Was for the conclusion of stage number one, which was won by Kyle Busch 21 laps to go now in the stage as we wait for Ricky Stenhouse Jr to come off turn number four and he does, but he will bypass the opening of pit road and stay on the race track. Right behind him is Joey Logano. Steve Post real quickly. Joey Logano has been a non factory. I mean, it's hard to say, but Logano has not been in the top 15 this afternoon. What's the deal? The deal with Amanda has been fighting a loose condition all day long. He just didn't get back into the dance without the car.

"Here summer stop for pit stops. Kevin Harvick brings his car in here's Chase Elliott in getting his pit work done. Really? They're just worried about maybe driving through debris over there on the backstretch, and we're a little far out on the pit window or leopard too, Eh? Probably about six or seven nights out on someone. No, but backing off here, But four new good. You're racing needles on the cars. And send them back on. And then if this thing does go green to the end of this stage, it would be a quick splashing cold pit stop, Dylan welts say it's a little dicey down here. There's still a couple wet spots on pit road. Kyle Busch came in for fuel only and hit a wet spot and slid nearly out of his box and into the back of Anthony Alfredo in front of him. So as crews work on these battered and beat up race cars, other cars trying to make routine pit services. Well, there's three or four of them in my and still down here trying to pull off sheet metal and composite body pieces to get these rays Car's fixed. Kim Kun Way had teammates Joey Logano and broadcast Lasky and also in Kyle Larson took four tires. Sunoco fuel, also taking four tires and fuel cold Custer, Austin Dillon, Ryan, priests and Korean the joy making us Stop. We'll give you an idea of who did not pit when they come back around because they brought all of the cars down pit road. Not everybody made a stop. So we'll double check that in a moment, Christopher Bell was in and out first service and then we can reset the lineup. Rusty five hours 40 minutes 28 seconds of downtime. As a driver and you in particular. What would you have done during that during that time, But every time it rained, I want some my motor coach and sat in that thing and just got away from everybody relaxed. I was always aware of what was going on. The guys that were helped me out where you know radio into me or call Amir hanging out with me and saying Hey, looks like 15 minutes, so it's gonna dry up will be out there. I had a lot of information, but the big thing for me was just to sit down and be calm and relax, restore all that energy and just keep your mind focused on the job in hand and that was running the race. And so that's what I did. There's a lot of racetracks that that NASCAR races on after some rain. You're really worried about how much the track changes and the conditions change. What we were supposed to run the Daytona 500 today in the daylight, we started it. Obviously the 5.5 hour delay. We're completely under the lights. It's 64 degrees, ambient temperature right now. Track temperature much cooler. And the rain that came. Is there any concern with the Daytona International Speedway? Well, the only thing I could see right now is that the car should be really hooked up to track his pool. And what have you got A cool temperature out there. You'll get more speed and mortgage report. What you will get is more travel also meaning that the cars you're gonna hook up pretty hard heart in the corner, so I wouldn't be surprised started straight. We see a lot of cars, sparking because they're running a little bit lower to the ground because The way they had that set up is for daytime racing and maybe lose her conditions. Ah, hot, a racetrack and like I say when it cools off, you get all that grip. It's gonna force the car into the ground just a little farther, especially when the tire pressures air down on the car. So don't be concerned. If you see some cars, sparking and shooting sparks off underneath him. It should go away when the pressures build up. I also want to take a quick swing around the race track for another just important update as to the track drying that continues day when I look down towards you, I see a couple of jet dryers at your feet further down. There's some work being done off Turn Number four, but let's take a swing around and find out how soon This track is going to be ready, Dave. I think we're good at this. In Jeff. They were giving one more bit of attention. They had three jet dryer, a couple of jet dryers that were just attending to that area. The extreme outside right up the last six or eight inches before the safer barrier where the water.

"January 2021 details the t mobile dot com Nbr 10456 80, the sports leader. Crash That's going to change the complexion of this year's running of the Daytona 504 sure, an update on the cars involved in just a moment it's growing. What we know. Is this Rusty? It happened at the front of the field running 2nd and 3rd. Eric L. Merola running second behind him. Christopher Bell on the bottom of the race track. Looks like Christopher got into the back of Eric turned Eric around and it was on. This is just a classic bump. Drafting Gone bad. Christopher Bell started bump drafting Erica Merola turned them sideways right into the wall in the whole thing started. I got tell you what I was really concerned about this guy's because everybody is so jacked up for this Daytona 500. We got a little bit rain coming. That's in their minds, and they started getting after down that back straight away and another wreck a major one in a straight away using we see these wrecks in the corners. But of late with all this bump drafting. It's been in the straightaways turning these cars loose. So right now, as it stands, we're up to what 17 cars involved in the crash starting at the end of the backstretch. Those cars Chris Buscher Martin Treks Junior Matt DiBenedetto, Jamie McMurray, Alex Bowman. Also out there. Daniel Suarez, David Ragan, Anthony Alfredo, Ryan Newman. William Byron involved. Ryan Blaney involved Kurt Busch, Eric al Merola. Tyler Reddick, Eric Jones. Those involved in the big crash headed off into turn number three. That was my favorite and my favorite and my favorite and my favorite. Yeah, you get the idea. We took out some of the sport's biggest stars in that crash way too early in the running of the Daytona 500. Now we're getting word from NASCAR that we need to bring this race to a stop on pit road. We have lightning in the area, the skies of darkened here in Daytona, and so NASCAR has instructed all of the drivers and the teams to follow the pace car that Corvette pace car onto pit road. And shut him down. And unfortunately, the crowd here is gonna have to disassemble is well seek some shelter lightning in the area within eight miles of the racetrack if we get a lightning strike We have no choice but to put it on pause and Well, this has been a grinding or halting start to the Daytona 500. No kidding, Jeff, if you just think about it, if these drivers would have been able to just hang on for another 34 minutes sweeter. Potential not torn up so many race cars. But as it stands right now, it's a mandatory 30 minute hold when there's lightning within eight miles of the racetrack, So in Marin weather delay coverage, by the way is brought to you by New Michelin endurance XT silicone wiper blades. They're real world proven for extreme weather performance lasting two times longer than other blades On Lee available at WalMart. Everybody has a radar. Anybody that is in this country can pull up a radar and see what we're dealing with here in the great state of Florida, and there is certainly weather all around the race track. There's some out into central Florida and out on to the West Coast. We do expect some of that to move this way. Our hope is because it is tremendously scattered that some of it will skirt us north some south and leave us alone. It's not raining. At Daytona do not gone would because there are certainly some cells around us. But again just as a safety precaution and when it has to be in play because you do have race fans here, and we don't want the race fan in danger, so we'll shut him down with Kevin Harvick. Christopher Bell got away unscathed. He still second Austin Dillon then Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Ryan Priests. Joey Logano was in it, but apparently he stayed. Was able to get through there and Joey Logano right now shows up eighth in front of Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. It's tough. It really is so many race cars taken out out there and a lot of them that people had penciled in as winning the Daytona 500 today. That will not happen at all because of the big crash over there, as Mike Bagley described at the end of the Daytona super stretch headed off Into turn number three again under the red flag right now, which means all the cars that came to pit road and the teams began to try to assess the damage and work on them. They have to stop working on them because of red flags. So you cannot work on those damage Race cars while the red flag is out, Rusty, I'm gonna put you back in the driver's seat here, and you're gonna drive a number of cars during this little back and forth deal. You've had a chance to see it. Now I'm gonna put you in the driver's seat of the 20 of Christopher Bell. What happened? What was going on? Take us through it. Christopher just tried to bump draft the back Americom role. And now when I watched it and look fairly normal to me, they were pretty well in line. He didn't scrape across the bumper and turn him sideways. But when he gave that last little straight jolt, where he was just Get in line behind Eric. For some reason, it lifted Eric back of his car up just a little bit, unhooked it and it made a big time. Right hand turn. I don't think Christopher thought that he hit him. The way he hit him That would turn him. I don't think Christopher ever thought he would turn the 10 car Berekum alma role and send him into all the way. But it happened and that was part of my progressive keys. The race. I told this guy we were talking about it. I said, look. Everybody's got so much adrenaline flowing. Her body's still jacked up. They just got to stay calm. Somehow the first part of this race because we've been seeing a lot of Rex and the straightaways, and we just saw it again a little while ago. This is becoming the new norm for speedway racer where they get a little too aggressive in the straightaways, and it turns to driver upsets it they get in the wall. And I'm afraid that's going to continue. There's they learned from this, that's for sure. But I think that Christopher's gonna go back and look at it and go, man. I didn't think I hit him that hard. I didn't think I caused this. But it happened. 15 laps or complete is we sit under the red flag. The field has been whittled down drastically because of the big crash. 40 drivers started the race again. Involved in the crash. 16 drivers, Some of those were able to drive away so hopefully they'll be able to get those cars bandaged. Back up and get him back out on the racetrack. So for now, we are going to sit and wait. We're in a lightning weather delay again. No rain at the moment, but we are under the red flag. Every day. People experience mysteries that challenged.
