"Just be our greatest teachers there's a tremendous amount to learn from the Brenda Pressley character. That's the beauty of it. That's why I feel like she's so lasting is. Because you know. In the end, we all need a little bit of Andy and a little bit of Miranda in us. Right. Well, I would like both men and women to examine their ambition. And I encourage people to strive for excellence, and I also want people at the same time to understand the sacrifices necessary tasks themselves, they're prepared to give up parts of themselves in that quest. And ultimately, I think that's what the movie's about is who am I I think all we ever wanted was for people to enjoy the movie, and the fact that they do is is beyond thrill. And that's that's all David I ever wanted. Go. Thanks for joining us for this episode of Spreen dive, I'm Anna van Valen for more than today's show, including exclusive content and past episodes. "The most famous scene in the film when Freddie and the monster perform putting on the Ritz almost didn't make it into the movie. In fact, it was the only time that Mellon, gene. But it heads only one fight a big, gene. I add the biggest fight of our lives because he said in order to prove that the Munster was really reanimated from tissue and could move and turn, you know, he said he wanted to do musical number. And I said, gee, that would tear it our salute to James WALE, are are are caring about a a beautiful black and white film of, you know, the thirties would go out the window. Just be silly. He said, I've got the number plate putting on the rich. And I said I said you want the monster today putting putting on the rich but sitting in a hotel room in the Bel Air. You're saying I'm not gonna tear the. Picture up. I'm not going to the picture of pizzas. I do. But I thought I thought it would not be fair to do James whale to the movie to black and white. He said, okay, I'll make a deal with you shoot. It. We'll test it. And if it if it's rice if in any way, we do. Anyway from one person. Well, we'll cut it out. So we tested it. And it got the biggest and best response of anything. We did in the movie, and I heard them kissed him and said, I'm so glad that you were so fierce and you'll fought me on this. What I love about the setup of the putting on the Ritz scene is that if humor is about surprise. Maybe the biggest surprise in that scene is that the monsters pretty good dancer. That's the humor that there's also that line when the most starts to freak out in June, Waller's responses, he yells. Humiliate him, and it's the strange little truth bomb, right at the end of that scene that the worst thing you can do to any man is mock him or if Mel Brooks is mocking you. It's the best thing you can understand why Mel says that out of everything he's ever made he's proudest of young Frankenstein. And it's easy to see how close it is to his heart. I asked if he had a favorite moment from the film. He had a hard time picking. But I think it's the first time. I mean that is just and you didn't even want to put it in. Gene, tiger gene won that argument so much so that they turn to the entire movie into a hit stage musical and melon. Michael even wrote a book about the making of the movie I wanted to know what they want people to get out of the film. Whether they're watching it for the first time or the hundred time, I want them to see the amazing talent of gene wilder number one. I think it's his greatest film performance. The have a good time. Basically, I'm very proud of the movie, I think that a lot of the films that we remember that are huge in memory. We remember them because they were either the first or the best, and I think that is where I would say that young Frankenstein fits in. It wasn't the first horror comedy. But it is probably the best. Poor and comedy goes. So well together because they are two sides of the same coin. Young Frankenstein uses the conventions of fear scaffolding than tears the house down with funny. This year is Frankenstein's two hundred birthday there are BI centennial celebrations happening all over the world from all night, readings of the book on Halloween to symposiums on bioethics, major universities. So this story isn't going anywhere. But there will never be another Frankenstein, quite like this types. Coat times with so cod awake. Perfect.
