Coronavirus scams claim to offer vaccines, treatment and testing

"While the justice department is filed its first enforcement action against alleged corona virus fraud it obtained a temporary restraining order against the website corona virus medical kit dot com now prosecutors say the site claimed offer consumers access to vaccine kits from the World Health Organization but there are currently no vaccines for this disease CBS is Anna Werner joins CBS this morning to explain how to avoid the scam and others like it what exactly did this website claim to offer so basically this website was claiming to offer vaccine kids from the World Health Organization they said if you added water it would work you pay for ninety five and shipping for this kid of course we know that there are no vaccine kits available the only people doing the tasks are state and local labs and yet there are scammers out there who are trying to convince people Hey there's something that you can order you can use it at home and if you do happen to see one of these kind end of things you can contact your state attach a terror attorney general's office scale but now these are these are not vaccine gets and there are none of it such a crappy thing to do to anybody are there any approved at home testing kits anywhere the religion no there are and I'm really glad you asked that gal I think it's really important to make clear to people there are no at home testing kits the FDA has not authorized any home testing kits at all for use so if you see something that says Hey you can test yourself at home it's not a real deal here is the government saying a lot of these scams Anna so I found something really interesting over the weekend so customs and border protection has been tweeting out photos of items that he it it has seized one of them is sort of like a a box of little vials they show these pictures on on Twitter of things that people are saying are either at home treatments or they are or they are seeking one of my treatment a treatment kit the acting commissioner said on Twitter that police in the UK arrested a man for selling those kids and then the other ones are counterfeit test kids came through Los Angeles airport they were labeled as purified water files so these are the kinds of things that people who are you might call them creative or just call them scammers frankly are saying Hey I can make a quick Buck off of this sell something to people and one of these things actually the CBP said had some what might be dangerous ingredients to it so there's some there are some dangers there too and what are people listening to when it comes to robo calls well you know the robo callers have jumped into this I'm sure you're not surprised to hear this they're saying Hey we can clean your home air docks your air filters for corona virus we also are going to help you with your student loan that one before and even the Social Security scammers are jumping in and saying Hey there's going to be something with the corona virus and your social security number so be careful about these calls if you get one of these calls just hang up yeah that really is the best idea that is CBS news has an order on how to avoid the Cronus virus scams that are already targeting people around the country and

Better Business Bureau: Risky Scams To Look Out For

"To a new report from the better business bureau of the Federal Trade Commission says Americans lost get this nearly six hundred and seventy million dollars to scams in twenty nineteen alone that is a lot of money more than thirty seven thousand were reported to the B. B. B. the better business bureau and while that number decreased from twenty eighteen the median the middle amount of money lost per scheme rose two hundred and sixty dollars thirty five percent of people who were exposed to one of those games in twenty nineteen lost money as one one three our consumer investigative correspondent Anna Werner is here to explain more and implement scams are the biggest one apparently had of those work you know somebody will say to you Hey listen you can make part time money working from home one of these victims said she's a college student and she shared her story with the baby and she said you know they said the friend told me we can make three hundred dollars and you can make three hundred dollars per per quarter if you just sign up for this but what they're really looking for is your personal information here so they'll say in order to get this job you have to provide your personal information like your birth date your social security number here's how we're going to pay you yeah and I think a lot of these appointments scans is look you're not going to get a lot of money for not working very hard this is part of a true right now right yeah the launch people want to believe that they can and they've they're talking about the fact that also they've gotten really out with a call into a high touch approach in other words instead of just sending you a quick email that says Hey make money though actually engage with the victims they will actually have them do some work for the business before they get paid sometimes they'll send a check here is your check guess what we overpaid you we need you to send us some of the money the extra money back of course the first check is a fake thank right and then you're actually sending them real dollars out of bank lots of employment scams yeah the second riskiest I was surprised about this or crypto currency scale yeah I was surprised to hear this too because crypto currencies I think it's something that people don't really understand that well we're talking about bit coin and oftentimes I think what they're appealing to people and is Hey there's this new kind of thing you can buy bitcoin and you can maximize your money like a thousand times your money and people don't really do the research here's a tip don't invest in something that you don't understand so interesting that is really good advice because they can talk at you so well and you're still single I don't understand a word you're saying but it's a state with such confidence you think okay right or something former Cork and I thought did a really admirable thing in it in a meeting probably clear that she fell victim to a scam Tony almost had a similar experience where the emails off just a little bit yeah those most at risk because you think about Barbara Corcoran and Tony to couple Katie terror very savvy very savvy people should look at rules well yeah I think that they're getting smarter and smarter you know they're they're not just sending you without cracking looking phishing emails they're actually making them look good and you really have to we would have to Microsoft I think it was maybe a year and a half ago and they showed us some of the pages and the emails that are now coming in because they watch this stuff they have a team that does this and some of them are incredibly sophisticated and unfortunately as it so often does with us as consumers you have to watch out for yourself also keep in mind we all hate to admit this but there's a little bit of a green factor you know people get excited right I can get the five grand I can make the two here and and they kinda wanna believe it because all of us might be just a little greener I tried to get the money I was surprised by another thing here to the the the most profitable for scammers tends to be these romance scams and and that's not about money scans right three thousand dollars the people yeah yeah I I never understand sending money to somebody who you don't know who you haven't met just because they're telling sweet nothings and let me set this up for you okay I actually have eight somebody that I know yeah who lost two hundred and eighty thousand dollars to romance okay and on this person I was somebody who was a little bit vulnerable but as they say in the romance scams one of the main factors a lot of people are fifty five to sixty four in a his loneliness and they really want and you know what there's very they're very clever they'll call them on the phone to develop a phone relationship with the victim okay you know the people feel like women second riskiest scam for women as you see because they they feel like they've developed a relationship with somebody now actually save them on the phone don't tell your friends and family about us they'll never understand and then they start saying well you know how I flew to South Africa I'm on my way to you I was an accident I was in an accident Michael my daughter couldn't get out of the hospital I just need to brand and then next time it might just need like for Graham yeah you know the next time it's three hundred and by then you think you've built up a relationship with someone you want to help you have is just not a real one yeah exactly one eleven you want to
