"It was just straight ahead is. It's about human behavior. He put simple. Keep it real. Don't turn it into a three at this. Isn't that just between people between two people between just simple basics which honest got him on my hands and knees in gratitude for any just said to me one day. You could do this. You know if you want to that stunned me and also. That's the time when a character. If i let it would float in and i would disappear. Every like whoa. This is the way. This is the most joyous thing i've ever experienced in my life and then denied we're very close and we have both suffered tremendous loss mine and my dad and she lost her brother senior year and so grief. We understood deeply plus. I loved her. Anyway she's fantastic. Person maribeth wally and she. She said we go off on her own. Because everyone else is like all right time to put your best foot forward. I know you lost your brother. Don't worry about any foot forward ever. You take your time hon. Here's the key. I had a little gremlin. God help us off you get. There's no rush here. We are not know grievous grief and we'll get there together and she lived. Mitch said you wanna really want be a doctor. That was one of those late nights in college. And i said no. I wanna be an actor. She's well what are you doing. Gonna so literally said thank you and then i auditioned for an acting school in in. And that's it still feel that way about acting. Oh yes who got. Here's the great thing. Can i just say when. I told you i learned about anxiety that will the day. I thought that's how you do acting school to chemistry. Organic chemistry is beautiful thing. Really you know it's built on the carpet and it actually makes sense over time. It builds on that you know regular chemistry was confusing to me is like okay but i just learned that part. Now we're going into this thing. What's this but anyway. I would study for hours and hours and hours in. Because i had no sense of what i was capable of non. And that's that wonderful teacher who who said to me. What do you think an these tests were grueling. I'm must be in the wrong test. Because i can't believe we studied this because i don't see anything familiar of course what they would do to extrapolate beyond what you were just taught to see. Can you. then now this do not. I mean yes. Yeah and the test is to ours. And i finished in like twenty minutes. I remember ones Maybe i got the and he said well. How do you think he did share said. I'd probably flunked. I don't know he said you got hundred and the mean of the classes fifty six the point. I'm simply making is such lack of awareness and this teacher was so Michael graph. i won't say his name aloud. He just had the good sense to say hunt commitment. D do you you you doing well on. You're not happy. That's a big tip. Okay so anyway just to jump quickly to acting school. I've learned his lines. And i will know them this week and then i will know them again and this you know no way acting does not participate in that way. In fact no is the big word that comes out. You cannot do that to character. They're not interested in being bullied. And so the thing. I love as time goes on is that i'm realizing that affect babe. Relax with you. It'll come it'll come. you know what i'm thinking about. This all makes perfect sense to me. But because before i did this i was an attorney all my god hun and have you covered. No i don't mean to be respectful of no. No no i. it's just it's very. It's very familiar. I was i. Yeah i yeah. It's interesting isn't very similar. It's a similar kind of idea that you can be good at it but you still. It's still is kind of setting you on fire from the inside out. it does not know. Self-awareness is landing on you. Of course that that takes. Like i mean i had to do an analysis gotta back in school which can i say. Save me to seen by then. I was like who is that person that i thought. I wasn't a block shirt but good for you. Are you happy. I'm very happy. Yeah i mean. It's a ridiculous thing i get to do things like this. Sit here and have this conversation. Just chat with people about the things that they do that they love to do and That they're great odd and it's it's In some ways a ridiculous job to have what. Can i just point out something to you which i know now because i've known for full hour that that's not ridiculous because i'm telling you there are people you don't want to talk to and you know what right away. You think i'm going to do this because that's my job but now i would tell you anything that would be called a gift on your part and a skill. That is not ridiculous. in fact it's very meaningful. I'm just putting that out there to you. Thank you thank you. I appreciate that and thank you for being here on black. You are wonderful. linda. "That's wild that's that's absolutely the the interesting thing is it has had very long. I mean had very long legs in terms of people still love it and talk about it and talk about the spectacular nature of that cast and they think for a lot of people. It's a it's a reference point for sort of you know or a different kind of entry. In how television started to to broaden how how. I wouldn't you know you're far more aware than i. How about cardellini dead to me. Oh my gosh on. She's wonderful. And i just watched her the other day and Legally blonde as well. She's a she's all over the place she's all over the place but yeah i. I loved seeing her show up in dead to me. She's one of those she and christina applegate. Both our tastes stop. Can you love to see them. Every time love to see them every time i i'm gonna just tell you right now. I don't watch a whole lot. Because i don't understand how anyone has time i stupid. I mean yeah no no. No one does does that is serious. I watched the whole thing twice because and then the scary part is really challenging. Things happening in my life in my personal life. Personally just things that what people do have challenging things right and so i suddenly was hypnotize pie. Applegate in her responses anger problem and you can really adopt her way of looking at the world and ito which is talking to someone and she says under about the hunt. So what. You just slips in under the sentencing. You're tying yeah. I just love seeing the two of them and you know you'd think they'd been. They're fantastic. that's all you outside of handmaid's which obviously you're you're you know you're busy with handmaid's and and film water kind of the most important things to you right now in terms of deciding what kind of work you want to do. Well as we speak. I'm working on a one person show that is written and be directed by robert. I do you must know him. I know who that is. Yeah he's beyond beyond it's based on enemy of the people and so we have been zooming and he's been writing as we've been talking all along and it's nearly complete and more begins may three here. It'll be happening here in the army at the armory on park avenue. So you know. Let's talk about challenge can we. Because it's it's been extraordinary to really focus on the complexity of character and let's come to know this character and will if we don't get it in this state just relax within his lotto as we're gonna shoot this and then if it doesn't work we'll just do it again So what the theater is to me. Which is where. I began is. Let's step up into what real courage is not just on one level but on many which is to say drop the armor This is what i have tonight. And i'm gonna trust it and i'm going to put the walls down and i'm gonna i'm gonna just say yes i can and i say that i'm talking about some. I don't know hallmark card. I really don't sound that way. Because that's the challenge in front of me. You know and i'm determined to embrace it and enjoy it but it's you know i haven't been there for a minute. The last a did with something called a night is a room by naomi. Holmes what made you wanna act i. What are your first memories of wanting to act you. Don't use a bug. May is when i was in acting school night with here. You know children. How did not do it naturally. Back what will of course. That's true rose net. You don't have kids playing now as a woman who's older. My children are are miami. Sixteen but you know my kids are. I could watch children all day long. Could i just sit here in the park. And watch them the imagination the lack of boundaries. You say to them. There's you kingdom right over there. You know what don't let anyone that's you gotta You don't ever have to say twice. And i had just feelings like that in my womb alone that oh nobody's watching nobody's gonna say what are you doing. I kept from seven kids. You know you gotta keep yourself sharp. Can i just say. But i would say high school but the thing that really i i was going to be a surgeon. That was the whole plan. My father and i discussed that and that was the plan and then he died senior new year so i really double down on that. It was even that there was great love for theater in my household and he had the feeders from ireland. Can you imagine in our living room for gracious sakes. And he's to do stuff at christmas. I my daddy would read in be putting on his velvet red coat and he was like whoa but it was never any would come to see place that i was in in high school. And just stand in the back. Never tell me was there. I mean he would come for the formal coming but then he would show up things and but but the message was never. This is what you can choose for your life by the way absolutely not. That's a hobby. You know you enjoyed it for fun. Business good now. You're gonna get serious. And so when he died in my senior year i had done plays there that i loved. I mean they meant to everything and when they were over the depression just sank me. And then i went to holy cross college as a pre med student and then i learned about what he is and how it can impact rule the day and i had wonderful teachers. Mind you just extraordinarily the organic chemistry teacher. You know just looking at missing you happy here. you sure. And there's no rule you're eighteen. There's no rule that you have to do this. End head to get as mind you because you had to get as or you're not going to be able to get into medical school but also acting in plays and i had an acting teacher that was.

"Right ann dowd a blanket ban on everybody gets what insurance because i'm not everybody it it you made it sound like everybody everybody's severely mentally gone culture youth vote and that's not true belga the what i said and i'll say it again chuck there are roughly seventy five thousand americans who are so severely disabled by their mental illness that they are unable to work and qualify for social security disability insurance and if any of those seventy five thousand people are going to apply for a permit to own a gun at the very least i think it would be reasonable to have the psychiatrist or psychologist who certified that their mental illness was so severe that it prevented them from working also to to personally certify and take responsibility for asserting that however uh you know they may be to mentally ill to work but they're not to mentally ill to own a gun athena officer cadrez wants to say that i don't have a problem with it but i'd buy i i be your sometime now i'm mentally ill my wife go and i'm not talking about somebody who's out social security disability 'cause they hurt their back no no i am only talking about people who are on who who are claiming that though the reason why they are disabled is because they are mentally ill and i i see snow stigma associated with that there are people who particularly with things like ptsd you know from going off to iraq and afghanistan life's experiences there are there are legitimate you know depression another another one bipolar disorder there's a number of uh you know the figures in some cases debilitating mental illnesses they don't mean that they're people are bad people it doesn't mean that they should be ostracised but in some cases particularly if suicidal id asian is part of it or homicidal id asian um the i i don't think they should be able to buy a gun right i agree with you on a case but not a blanket ban on it but here would go through to grow that's why upscale well i think the the the uh the blanket ban was a was a flag i'm uh i'm not sure if during the obama administration people in know the social security disability.
