"How does that feel versus what you just described the speechless. Feeling of great moments. So it's harder to watch chris Tino take that type of beating for me than it is to watch a guy like Ni- get knocked out cold by joaquin buckley right because i think most of us understand that. It's the perpetual repeated damage that does more long term damage than just get knocked out cold for those are the harder things for me to watch. Certainly when i hear chris wiedeman after the facts. Say that as he was writhing in pain his brain immediately switched to that of a documentarian and in that moment he was trying to deal with the pain by thinking about documenting his recovery. Like that is incredible to me I was devastated for conor mcgregor. And other people out there that have said coldly that he got what he deserved. But in that moment. I'm absolutely devastated for connor. Has i know he wanted to compete again in three months and then again three months later. So it's hard man it really is. Obviously there are personal relationships that make it even harder but man. This year has been something else. I think to george about all the violent knockouts like yuri prohaska and dan e. I mean the competition for knockout. A year has never been stiffer and were not even at august first. So it's a violent game. My brother's nobody knows that better than new guys. John thank you as always for the time. It's always great to chop it up with you. We cover a lot not just in this board but others and we reciprocate that a dream job of ours would be just chopping up talking about anything and everything in the mandalay bay impact. When i was looking i i had to look very hard to see if you've ever actually made it into the studio for the interview you know what i mean. I remember us talking student for like an hour. One time But yeah it's been a while since we did down so when things opened up with other. Have you back yeah. I think i've visited guys in your studio probably four or five times. I've been on once or twice but we'll make it happen all the best guys and don't lose my number but take care. Thanks all right all right man. He's the best. Goes no no way around it john awesome. What an awesome person very equal. We our good friend sam. Who was visiting last week. We had a conversation about sports castles. And how we all are born with this group right. That's there when we're there. And then the next generation like you and me our generation right like hearing marv albert. Keith jackson certain voices that you kind of equate with the nba with college. Football that sort of thing but then they go away and they start to be replaced by guys. Like maybe like your godson. He's familiar with a gus johnson right. The moral renault's of the world We brought up. Jon anik as one of those guys that like never. He says today's my last day of colin. Mma thousands gonna sting for sure. I'm getting used to alexander. The great you know from watching. I think it's tough. I've been. I've been hearing that a lot man to be so much easier to book him when he lived in vegas but that we're probably like almost a decade remove seven or eight years that moved the florida Where loved the pullman. A lot more often e-eh you know it's a hectic schedule that the ufc people have. And i don't know i i he. He is an example to young broadcasters. He does his job. Great very Ah original i mean. He literally put gambling on his back. A lot of us has talked about gambling but he did it on the big stage and look at how much it's blowing up. He had a very big hand in that and preparation. Which it'll be the first to go while. I got that from brian stan. But guess what. He's now influence john other commentators well to up their game and not to say that they stopped or anything that cruise has always been a stud but now uses knowledge. Probably with jon. Anik influence going. It's going far. The uc's groomed a lotta great color commentators system your palate. Is you know who you like cormet. Crews this being is really really good. Ones out there Felder and these guys just gerald his his game to they They're excellent point guards. You know he's like a trae young. What will will close of what we started now seriously. But here's the last thing i'll say is you can run into jon anik On the strip treat you like he treated you it before. This happened in before the sport blew up. Uc continue to blow up. John agnew up. he's the same he really threw me though goes with derive. All you guys had the or lately is dodgers have been in a tailspin. The lakers got they got a punt out of the second round and i think last year we actually working on those back to back. La championships so he said i was literally like bhagat war. You gotta eat it because we've been likely you got so casually snuck up on me now you know usually one of those is like boom you know but he kind of did that creeper mall where you just kind of walk around or whatever then you come up with aside. How thank you john anik adrian as for their time I do want to say this. Because i think we said enough about the main card your other winners on saturday. Night where brandon allen defeated puna. Soriano puna will be back man. That's his first loss. He's got a lot of skills. You will fight until the end. Nassir dean amo. Bob defeated in high. Mickey gall goodwin for him man. Defeating jordan williams. He was an underdog in that While it's talking about early look out for him. He defeated on. You'll jar eubanks also look good thirty six years of age who she said. I finally tightened up diet her ways. You know her preparations she says really can do something. She's right. she's beating lauren. Murphy an roxanne more. The ferries so along with the read win. I could see her. Maybe start making. Some moves violate issue. You can keep it up Lastly diana bill vida defeated hannah goalie. The bonuses went to paiva and phillips for fight of the night janas and elkins scott performances. Other night so shout out to janas and elkins for sure elkins. Emoji wasn't going good for neither one of these guys early on and they turned it around came back. Not only did they win. They cashed the win-bonus and they got bonuses so.
"anik" Discussed on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani
"Anik with everyone is still buzzing from. Ufc to sixty one on saturday. Let's welcome back. Mr john anik was on the call for the whole damn thing and somehow he still has a voice after that craziness. John how are you. I'm doing well. And if still buzzing you mean the alike. I have a buzz. Yes i feel like. I am using recreational drugs right now so it is great to be with you absolutely so you're looking forward to calling this one. We spoke about a month prior. And you know not just because of the fights themselves but the return of the fans in a normal capacity over fifteen thousand people in the building and the people who were there from start to finish were on fire from the opening fight. I would assume having the fans back and being there far exceeded your expectations. No doubt about it. Can you imagine what houston is going to be like. If this is any indicator certainly over the years as someone who's been to brazil north of twenty five when we go to australia there are a lot of places that have such an appetite for this stuff. That not only are they there for all thirteen fights over eight hours or so but they watched the entire post fight press conference for every single live event and in the united states of america. That is not always the case. This was very much an early arriving crowd. It was a special ticket. A lot of people who were non floridians from ohio and other places who made their way to jacksonville. because they didn't want to miss this first event. And i don't have to tell you guys that the fans are the lifeblood of our sport. They add to our live event as much as any fans add to any live event atmosphere. We don't pipe in sound. Like the minnesota vikings all respect so This was a special night from the moment. I got to walk out and sort of embraced these fans and Was trying to fire them up. You know buffering our sort of joking that we became cheerleaders like we became the fans. Like i was literally walking over the sections. Be a mike. Let's go one one of the most memorable. If not the most memorable live event that i've ever been a part of and that is not recency bias. I think the combination of factors made this the most memorable live event. That i've ever yeah. I mean there's this sort much to discuss them this card. Let's let's start the main event because kamara who's been knocked out hori mazda on the second round the first round pretty much. What a lotta people expected like was was getting mas attention with his punches mazda was landing his leg kicks and got a takedown mazda. Got back up and it seems like after round one. We're in for one hell of a fight but then who's been landed at right hand and it was a rap and you know. Most people saw winning the fight. If you look to the odds the odds are clearly newsman's favor but to see it ends like that john. I mean wow. Did that surprise you. Yes i think a little bit the nature of it but i'm not surprised that comoros when was able to put him away after what we saw him. Do against gilbert burns seventy one days ago and in theory putting a training camp on top of that one and getting right back in a another training camp with trevor wittman and I've talked a lot about henry. Hooked and the value of all those years for tomorrow but the alignment with trevor. Women has taken his game to the next level and. I don't know that there's any other way to put it. He was gonna go see. Trevor mike as you probably know whether he thought gilbert burns or not so again. The appetite for overall well roundedness overall improvement. As a striker. Most telling thing from our fighter meeting was one kamar said not unlike floyd mayweather injected floyd mayweather name and said i know how to lead a striking fight bill. And i'm like oh man if this dude san stuff like this you know. And he's going to be that dangerous in that realm you know. Look out to the rest of this division i am. That's why to me. The steven wonderboy thompson matchup is so compelling to see that stylistic clash but nearly perfect performance from kamara certainly the calf cakes of hor. Hey moskhjadov were starting to to rear their head a little bit and again you don't wanna take too many of those you take one on the wrong tissue and you know it could be real trouble but a tremendous right hand Just a tremendous fighter. And i think when dana white suggests that kamara who's been appears to be on a trajectory to become the greatest mixed martial arts athlete of all time. He's not wrong. I mean it looks to me like we're looking at a guy who is destined for for undisputed go type greatness. Yeah we were talking about this. After the fight i think most people right now are pointing to the corey san hagan knockout of frankie edgar as the front runner for the it's only april. Were approaching. may at least until saturday. I mean a flying knee is always memorable but the aesthetics of this right hand that landed like the way mazal went down the water and the sweat flying off of his whole face. I mean we're doing year end awards. This knockout has to be right up there. And if it isn't and we are in for ridiculous eight months gigantic. Yeah no it's a good point and you gotta think that over the next eight months there's going to be something. Maybe not on a walking buckley level but some crazy spinning back fist type knockout. That's gonna get consideration. But i am with you. You know with respect to corey san hagen. You know this one. I think because of the championship stakes probably trump's that one But a dish depends you know beauty in the eye of the beholder. Dc and we're going back and forth on this later last year when he preferred kevin holland's shock at a knockout in a year. That i thought walking buckley had turned in the most unanimous type knocked out of the year that had ever existed. So but you're right. This was a special strike a special combination for a special athlete. And i'm really excited to see what he can do next. Because when you talk about anderson silva's record for sixteen consecutive wins for more to get to seventeen water. Those next few flights right the covington rematch in theory may be stephen wonderboy thompson fight. Which is a fresh fresh matchup if he gets by gilbert burns and then maybe liane edwards rematch as well if he gets through three of those and is seventeen and ellen the ufc he can have whatever distinction he wants with. Respect my man. Johnny balls right. So the world is commodity Alster right now. I think he deserves a lot of credit for being a workhorse. You know carrying the torch for two pay per views inside of eighty days and the excited to see this covington rematch. Hopefully in three or four months. Yeah i mean we talk about you. Know greatest of all time that go talk and even like the pound for pound list. I mean it's all subjective in a way. But but i agree with at this moment like i feel like right. Now because in the activity the performances. He is the best fighter in the world right now especially now that habib nevada made office official retired like it has to be at this very moment. Osmond at the top of that list right. Well why did finally get that distinction over. John jones certainly the the style points of his win but it also had to do with activity. Which was the word that you lead with. And that's what has sort of pushed john jones not out of the conversation but back a little bit you know..

"You know like dante hightower and patrick. Chung obviously opted out pre season for the patriots. And we've seen the way. Things have unfolded but I gotta think you're jones to get back in there. If you're if you're david price home making that money or not making that money. I guess in his case but seeing the dodgers realize a championship for the first time in thirty plus years To not be part of it to the on the team. It's gotta be weird. I am so upset right now. I'm john professional. So nice. And i had so many burns just in my pocket waiting to throw at him and he just kind of like to me. Is this when we lumet. Maybe there would have been more of me. That wouldn't be happy for the dodgers. Or andy reid the chiefs but i just think i'm old now bro. And i like to see people happy you know and josh gross and all these starve dodger fans. I can't help but be happy for those people on the i don't now having kids. To soften the goes we met. I had zero children. I have three now. I'm still waiting for that day when it's just us and he goes you know this is on it. He just gets in your face. Faith ears popcorn or something but they gave me drink in. The boston will come out. I assure you. George said you know we i. I grew up in the eighties and that was a great time but at no time for as much as we despise the celtics we had a respect from because i mean they. They changed the game. You they force you to play at your best. Every game and larry bird was just such a team player and mikhail perished none of them guys at egos just They were the consummate team. Right while you guys know of my love for kobe and i'm glad they're able to bring it home the year in which we lost him. I think for me when i think about two thousand twenty. I don't immediately think about kobe. Nineteen i think about where. I was that fateful day in january. What i you know at least for two hours didn't feel like i wanted to go on after that. Kobe news hit just not koby. You know I think that still just very raw with a lot of people. I only met him once and shook his hand. And i'll i'll forever cherish the One hundred and eighty seconds. I had with him But for people who had a lot more time with him and know how special he was and how much of a renaissance man he was still very raw now and the morning. I don't know if you're the news but we lost diego. Maradona a huge. I saw that arguably one of the biggest figures in all of argentina history like obviously. They've had their contributions In many ways. I'm surely composers and other singers and politicians I can't think of many. What is it a verona. Believe you know. But i'm just saying that's how mythical maradona is. I was looking go to one side. It's one year you can't drive more than a kilometer. Because that's what the other without seeing something has to deal with the national team in especially damara donna and man did he see your guy. Just nailed Whatever said better than i could. My johns you allude to or were you at home thinking about brandon fitzgerald saying that polish kid's name. Did you see squeezed it in ten times in like before the first round was overused showing it off. Got who rank i should. I should have prepped. Like jon anik but it was on one of the lives. Dana white contender series. You name's escaping me right now. But so i was the one who had that name. I surface on my radar. Because if you recall the week prior brennan wasn't feeling good. So i filled in on dana white's contender series and we were promoting the next week ahead and i looked at that name and then heard that audio file and singularly. I think it's the hardest name that we've had to pronounce. Some of these names are a little bit open to interpretation but a lot of the polish names and european names. A lot of people in those countries. Don't believe that. Americans are even capable of saying those words right. And i think there is some truth to that. We have sort of mastered young. J. check your gigantic. Whatever you want to say. But i tried to wish antonini's shevchenko happy birthday in russian and the american mouth just doesn't wanna make those sounds you know. It's it's our devil that we know but as you guys know not a show goes by that. We're not dealing with the name that is pretty damn challenging. Practice doesn't make perfect. But i always tell buff if you save fifty or a hundred times you got a better chance of nail method. If you say twice before you show nash after brandon man. He he not only did he rocket but i noticed he was going live. I was like okay. You're going a little overboard. you nailed it. We get it but he did a few times Even forced businesses. Got it right but anyway. Yeah ca- shown cave rich came to me orange gauge. So it's very natural for us to have the double s h sound in their coach. Sean gave its but you can tell. I literally said a two hundred tots so you it gets it becomes Still screwed it up could shown cave it..
Mark Jackson is the reason why Mark Jackson isn’t an NBA head coach
"Joe. Lake. Up after mark was let go had a bunch of quotes This was one of them that I found co part of it was that he couldn't get along with anybody else in the organization and look you did a great job. I'll always compliment him mini respects but you. Can't have two hundred people in the organization, not like you. Okay. and he said when I say the organizations whole I don't just mean the team just fifteen players that are involved in the coaching staff I mean everybody there's two hundred employees here. So we look at the organization going forward and the kind of coach we want and not just the performance everything else all these factors matter. We took all of that into account. So we have the player part of it. We have the owner part of it. We knew the front office didn't like him when one of the assistance. was busted for recording Jackson in meetings to play for the front office, which again that actually becomes a pro mark Jackson part of it. The Mark Jackson staff was not good enough the ownership in front office told him repeatedly, the staff is good. Enough Mark said we have the best staff going he and scalping apparently got into it and scalloping he was reassigned the front office didn't like that part of it. So we have the players have the staff we have the ownership we have the front office. Let's also talk about some of the other stuff that's just let's face it. Weird Jackson's Amana Faith I. Don't question anyone's faith. I just say to you leave me alone and I'll do my thing That's the way I've always operated and that rubs people wrong way when he was a head coach but also would find time to get to La whenever he had a convenient off day to go and do that. It's tough to tell a man of faith. Hey, you know what don't be that interested in God? That's that's an almost impossible conversation but if I was at ESPN or anywhere and said, Hey, you know what? I can't watch football this weekend. Because I have this higher calling eventually it worked they'd be like, Hey, you know what? Man Like this is all part of the job being availalbe around is very difficult in tough thing to navigate as I'm not even hundred percent comfortable doing it but I'd have to say employer at the time being frustrated by it actually makes a little bit of sense and I think there's other things that just bumped people out when curry had his ankle issues he was brought up in it was kind of a playful thing curry's brought up they put the holy oil on his ankle and. Jackson's wife at the time and Pete Jackson was like look like he had chronic ankle problems and now he doesn't. So you figure it out. That's one of those things where people like wait what Jackson also had some issues off the core where he was caught up extortion deal and I'm not even really getting on his case for that because I think a lot of things happen to people that are public figures that goes on normal people's lives. But the public figure becomes the of jokes on and on and on. He also said when asked about Jason Collins availability years ago. He said not in my locker room. So it came off as if he was a homophobe because there's evidence that he is, and then when he was asked to clear that up, he said look I know Jas I know his family and I'm praying for them right now. Hey, man you save your fucking prayers. Okay. That's the kind of stuff that just doesn't play no matter who you are and I think the. Most important part of all of this because I guess I'm still maybe a little surprised that he doesn't have a job because other people have been on TV and not been great on. TV. I've looked at other coaches that haven't had great runs and there's been plenty of people that have gotten second chances by the way both black and white. So when I see people out raged that he's been blackballed or as. Shannon Sharpe said White Bald or Kendrick Perkins recently, just saying like all of these things that I just going off on the idea that Mark Jackson doesn't have job it really feels like, okay. Are you informed and but yet you've made up your mind decided not to change your mind or are you uninformed and I think so many people screaming about this or like Oh wait that's right. You know maybe either moments you had just now listening to this like Oh, that's right. I've nothing personal against Mark Jackson. He's one of my favorite college basketball players of all time all-time. You guys know how huge of a Saint John's Fan I am and I actually was you know as a little kid be like dude I can't believe he's going this late in the draft is GonNa be awesome and he was awesome in the knicks I felt so vindicated I was. Like and I could refer team right one day I love Mark Jackson and I was right. But when I listened to him on the broadcast Van Gundy I, think him being on the broadcast Van Gundy chances of getting a job because if I was worth a half a billion dollars or more and had the opportunity to own a team or owned a team right now and I'd go. Van Gundy's on all of these little things like, Hey, look at how they blind me Anthony Davis on free throws already have them on the other side of the court. So he can seal for Deepak smaller offender will there be an adjustment. Hey, what's going on with the substitution? Hey, this rule's actually wrong. Why are they doing it? This Way Jeff Van Gundy will say, here's Hey Jason tatum something's wrong with him. He's the first pointed out it happens multiple times every single broadcast Jeff Van Gundy is easily the best NBA analyst in the game right now. Mark doesn't do any of those things and I. Don't know if that's just him not being comfortable in that role but he's a coach. He's a former player and he doesn't do any of those things. He'll say, Hey, this guy's not just a great score. He's a great individual. He's a human being. Okay. So and so doesn't get enough credit for shooting. Okay. In everything is results based. If the shot goes in, it was a great shot at the shot doesn't go in Hey, that's the guy that shouldn't be taking the shot. It's very. It's very minimal depth and when. You have people that make these decisions. You're almost instead of looking at the resume in Golden State which is on its surface again resume. You'd say Yeah. What like six years? Nicholas gives Scott his shot young team garnered play defense that's hard to do. But I think being next to Jeff. When Jeff runs circles around him on the broadcast. It it might remind go wait why why is this one guy way better talking about the game than the other guy so I think the best thing market do would not be on the broadcast with Jeff and who knows what might happen. So I just think the more we look at it and hey man trust me this is not white guy decide to push back on racism segment because I've. Probably done with those the rest of my life. I'm seeing specific to this one because the NCAA numbers are atrocious. The ABC's the head coaching. Diversity that we have in the pro sports leagues still is not what it needs to be I'm not pushing back on any of those things. But when it comes specific to mark Jackson, there are the informed in the uninformed, and hopefully if you've resisted this, you're more informed now.
The Slow Regrowth of Vulnerable Coral Reefs is Solvable
"Minds. Sarah, Hamlin I'm a scientist Mike Marine Lab in Florida and myself is growing car rates forty to fifty times a spade that Karl grows in the wild. Now there's a number of reasons while Koru is really important I mean who doesn't love going out snorkeling and seeing colorful reefs teeming with beautiful fish but they also provide us with goods and services whether that be tourism or employment the food table. And Florida align every system he is estimated to be worth about eight billion dollars not only that but these race protect I landed property from things like storm surge. So really good example of this is Hurricane Irma which was in two thousand seventeen had twenty five foot waves heating the Florida race track down in Lewke where I am and we had a storm surge at building, which is in Summerlin K. of only five foot. So we didn't have a rift system they're healthy ray system there you can imagine that that storm surge those waves would really decimate the land. So I I can hear your Australian accent Australia of course, famous for the Great Barrier Reef what's going on with climate change and coral reefs around the world? Well, wide was seeing a great reduction in live Carl Kaba So this is across the well whether it be Australia United States or any Pacific Ocean island nations. You might have heard of coral reefs as the rainforest say and that that's saying is because even the car reefs tyke out less than one percent of the seafloor. twenty-five percent of nine marine species actually rely on car roofs. At some stage of their life we're seeing Wolmar, she anik temperatures. We're seeing a lot more pollution going into the oceans, and this is resulting in las of live Carl tissue almost as much. If any consequences of climate change, I can think of the people who are really in contact with this are shocked and appalled and upset at a level that those of us who don't come into coral on a into contact with Karl on a daily basis. I don't really get I mean I have your you're in the Florida keys I have a nephew who's into a skin diving and spearfishing in Miami and he's a young guy, and just in the years he's been doing this the coral around Miami I mean he's like shocked and upset when he sees it and says, he can't really fish anymore just because of the change in the last decade, we have lost around ninety percent of that Caro cover in the last forty or fifty years and some of the race in the. Case now or the Florida Reef tractor as low as between four and six percent starting Caro cover, which is quite loy. So we're talking on zoom you have a fantastic backdrop of coral and I don't know enough to know what kind it is but we hear these terms like staghorn coral and I heard of Elk Horn coral what are the main forms of coral that you're working with and what do they look like? We have branching corals and we have massive Carl's so branching Caro's the Stag owns the call and you. Can picture what the antlers of a staghorn or alcorn look like they look exactly like that. So skinny branch is really perfect three dimensional habitat for fish and shrimp and all the Little Rafe critters out there, and then we've got a massive Carl's and these might be brain corals essentially look like the folds and grooves of a brain stock Carl's have They polyps alike little cop. So little stars and their every feeling Carl's they the Carl's that are creating the race and really growing that lodge Rafe structure that remained stable off the storms

"C? I don't know that the win was at unexpected. I don't think so. And we're GONNA TALK WITH JON. Anik about that the voice of the UFC. With Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormet. He's going to join us a guy I've known for a really long time. One of my first jobs. His first job on the air was being co host with me which I know we could probably do a longer version that podcast some other time. We're not going to do today. They'll get a team like Jon Anik. Who can help you navigate? The unexpected talked to a state farm agent today. So that's the plan Jon Anik on. Ufc Two forty nine. Even a little Joe Rogan stuff because I think Aniko sat next rogue now for years. He's never been on Rogan's podcast which everybody asks to be on. I will not ask to be on it I'm not sure I'm interesting enough for Joe Rogan so I do know this though. This is kind of a Rogan type. Segue though what's up with the UFO'S KYLE. Where are you right now? Space travel level of interest scale of one to ten cow. It's been ten for awhile now. Okay detained ten though. I'm not like going down rabbit holes but I'm all the way they're all right but is that about UFO's or is that just. I mean if we send some astronauts up in space check on some equipment you know just circle round the moon rule. Quick maybe get a different angles from different pictures. Your level of interest in that is where I mean. I just. I've been always undermined. That's just too big and it's like yeah. Nobody has to prove anything to make a space issue. Big and like yes. So what if they're not in our little Siebel region? They're just they're out there no doubt but it's probably not going to be proven to me. I get it. Yeah back in the eighties when any kind of shuttle took off like that was a big deal. That was that was prime elementary school. Hey let's let's get these kids to watch a space launch and it felt like the world everybody would turn it on still you know it. It felt like missions even though the Moon landings had stopped like these kinds of missions were big deal and then when the challenger disaster happened that was January. Twenty eight eighty six. I'll never forget because it was like one of the worst adult moments I'd ever been around. I'll never forget how bad it was. We were loud at lunch. And I've told the story once before on the radio show but we were you know. Elementary kits were up to sixth grade. So we're talking ten eleven twelve and we were really loud at launch. Because we were kids and you know a couple of kids start getting loud. A couple of other kids start getting loud and kids. Y'All start doing the same stuff we've got yelled at for being loud and then we were brought back into a room and this one teacher. She had her good moments. She had her other moments. And this is one of those terrible moments where she actually was so upset that the Challenger had crashed that she was like yelling at us in our classroom as if it was like our fault and it definitely wasn't our fault we had nothing to do with it. We were just a bunch of kids. And it's you know you have these moments when you're really young kid and he in your it's so memorable like you can remember it. So perfectly where he? I know exactly where I was sitting. Remember the angle and she was sitting up on one of the desks. She had the stress and she was really upset but the Challenger crash and we were going to watch footage of it. I guess after lunch and we were just a bunch of kids that were really loud at lunch that day which is something that happens at school and she took out her. I don't know if it was anger. But her sadness about this disaster. She turned that into anger towards us. And we're like a bunch of kids looking around going well Yeah that sucks but you know I'm I'm eleven and You know today was Square Pizza Day so I don't have a ton to add so yeah it was. It was real weird scolding and it was one of those moments. I'm sure if your parent and you have a Shitty Day and then yell at your kid and it isn't really about what the kid did. And then you feel bad about it or maybe you're a terrible parent and then you don't have that realization and you know whatever I'm sure you guys have gone through it as parents or being a child where you're like. Yeah this isn't really about me is it. You don't realize those things but you can remember them and then realize later. Oh that was about something else that was going on but that was just such a weird. It was just the weirdest deal. 'cause we even at eleven started to kind of look at each other going like Yeah this one's not really on US though. Like sorry about the lunch thing but feel like this is a little displaced right now. But we didn't use those words. We didn't know what displacement the reason. I bring this whole thing up and I'm not even sure there is a reason anymore but it just feels like space travel in general no one cares about and the UFO thing like we have footage now stuff. And I'm not the biggest believer all stuff like I always wonder why are always why wire the weird things always happening in New Mexico. Like why can't it be in Chicago not even Chicago? Why CAN'T BE TAMPA? Why can't it be a city bigger than twelve people and I can understand if the government and everybody just went all in and said yes. These are the. Ufo's this is what happens. And you know this is the footage that we have because some of the stuff looks really weird these these orbs that are flying by but again that's the backdrop from another vantage point. Which makes it look faster and weirder but that's the way it would look sip. We're used to looking outside of planes as opposed to one passing by although if you do see one going like underneath you. It's kind of a cool little deal if not a little scary. But I don't know I guess maybe it's the crow virus cow but I I guess I just I feel like so. Is this mean that we're now confirming and people were on the same page. These are actually. Ufo's was some footage that was released from the Pentagon and these fighter pilots. Like freaking out about it and all these other things that we've watched and everybody just sort of like I duNNo. Stay inside where mask. I would have thought this. Ufo footage would have been a bigger deal. Yeah and that's my point. It appears people are just like. Hey we're too busy right now. We're too busy to acknowledge aliens in spaceships. We just can't handle that and that's fair. That's fair I'm just surprised anything from you on this reading the two the two things you hear you like some country has got this awesome toy that we're just we can't even understand or it's aliens so and it's also he's the worst days to ever be believing video you announce like a Pentagon video. It's just another layer. It's like this is the worst time to be like looking at grainy video and being like wow. That's something there. Yeah because every sasquatch video I mean the one that we've always seen that's gonNa cost you okay. I can you know there. Is this one going on going around the other day that I saw was like these little people these elves debt like were only around native American dwellings and my whole counter. This for years always been okay. Fine make the case about the man bear that roams the woods and lives hundreds of years. Make the case for the The what is it the macabre Cuba Kabre. Yeah that's just the goatsucker though right. Isn't that along the same family? Yes I think that things are real thing right. Yeah there's a lot of goat's that have been taken out in South America but I haven't researched it really. Well I wouldn't I wouldn't call myself an insider when it comes to the goatsucker but there's all of these things and they all live on the fringes of can't we just have like couldn't sasquatch all right that Taco place smells good like I'm going for it. I mean if you really are this guy. That's been avoiding being spotted really well like I don't believe in any of the lake monsters by the way like yes. Are there weird. Are there weird aquatic things way down deep that we have no understanding of? Yeah but is it this dinosaur just sorta POPs in but then again? Some people will argue and say. Hey alligators are just dinosaurs. They were just underwater. When everything went to help you know like okay. Let's you know I'll allow that. But yeah the U. We all have that conspiracy buddy guy that believes every single one of these things you actually. It sounds a little bit like you might be one of those guys. Is that fair? You know I'd like whenever you brought this up a couple times on the Bill Simmons Pod when you're just like with the whole MJ leaving for a year. You're like it just. There's no way that there couldn't have been something. That's like a little bit definitive by now and so I believe in all that stuff and I like all the movies about that stuff but I'll see it to believe it but also believe it at the same time if that makes sense. Yeah I believe there's stuff that has happened that the government knows about that they just know. Wow you know what we actually. We don't want to tell everybody about this because people are just GonNa Freak out. So it's not so much withholding information which is part of it the power part of it but the other part of it is just. I don't know how the public will process this. Let's let's just back up so then all of a sudden these Pentagon video get released and everybody just sort of scroll suet and like it looks kind of weird and why the fighter pilot freaking out although the real conspiracy theories out there would say these are fake to try to distract his from how tough day to day life is right now like hey show me a couple spaceship videos. Maybe you know maybe people stay inside like handing us the IPAD. Yeah exactly exactly great job Kyle. Mackinaw need anything from you. The rest of the day because I was so strong before we get to antic during this time of social distancing connecting with friends over beer today looks pretty different as the original light. Beer Miller lite has always been there to bring people together in real life. Through Miller Time Miller time is a moment for people to come together in real life to connect over a few beers but having Miller time is tough. When you can't be with your people I've noticed more people doing the social distancing outside lawn chair connected. Garages deal that seems to be approved grab Miller lite grab case a Miller lite. Next time you know lights the beer that makes Miller time possible. Lite is the original light beer that tastes great less filling which means it won't get in the way of enjoying time with your people and that's what I think about Miller lite people's that when they're out and they see your lawn chairs a little dinged up. Maybe a rusty hinge a miller. Lite guy could fix it or he's GonNa go wait. You think I just have one mon. You think I only have one now man. I drink life..

"And I love H E I do I walk into. I'm going to be that guy who goes. Well it's early. It's going to be Aga lady again. No I'm going to get off the fucking fence and I'm GONNA say man. It is so rough. Do just I'm going to say Tony. I in fourth round stoppage. Okay okay makes you more likely by strangle. Yeah Henry Jehuda. Over the crews. Do I bet with my heart or do I bet with my head. We'll Jimmy well. Who's what your Heart Dominick Cruz? You're not to be manageable. See I like him too. I am more a dominant. I like Henry a lot but I'm more of a dominant cruise fan. I you know I'm saying I'm going to cut you off there okay. I don't blame you because you're you're you're really struggling with this. I WANNA say pseudo second round stoppage now. I'M GONNA say Dominick Cruz by decision. Because this guy he's been in this so so long he's got such a fucking high fight. Iq I wouldn't be surprised if he took down shallow in these exchanges because he has he can switch levels very fast. He's got a very unique style. A style I believe that Dominic cruise for more aggressive type fighters like Henry who not that. He's really wanted to say there's a lot of guys like him because he's unique and his own because he just thought but he's for similar fighters than she who doted dominick Cruz. Yeah probably right. I'M GONNA to say Dominick Cruz by decision. Because I think shoot does a tough tough guy he's going to be able to take licking but I think cruises in a comeback and it's going to be something to be talked about. Well you look at pseudo. And that fight. He had with Marlin Rice. Which I guess I ended in around three. Tko with that first round was Kilian who does extremely tough. And the only reason I'm going with him and early is because he has looked so ferocious early but it's hard to bet against dominant to like. I really love dominant cruise. So let's go no. You didn't go yet. I'm sorry I know because my first instinct was pseudo in the second round. I hate to say that though because I really like dominic more doing the old fucking. Oh I'll take in the second all right good right there you can do first round in Ghana in the first round knockout wow yeah rosy strike doesn't like that. Shay I like Roseanne stripy. You know. What as far as I'm concerned he's great but older mm-hmm I thought it was such a smart veteran found a way to win four rounds and I thought he won that fight. I thought that was over. He was fighting. Referee's mistake so I'm GonNa take in Ghana in the first round. Jimmy you know many fights that Roja strike loss non-pleased ten ten in. Oh yeah he's never tasted defeat now. He's never he's never been. He's bought some tough guys but in Ghana who is different. You know I mean he he knocks out guys who have fought tough guys. Listen I like Rosa strike a lot and I'm big for the underdog round. Do you taking in GonNa win. I'M GONNA say it's GONNA come out. It's going to be a fast and furious fight. And I'm going to say the second round for Francis Okay. I'm seeing it hanging there for that first round. And that's good. That's the story that way we could just wanted to more like not doesn't matter like a and here's why. I'm taking Francis in the first because I talk a lot about reach and I know like when you get a Cormet who's one of the best fighters in history. That's the guy who closes distance really well but again it's not as easy to close distance. I think at a guy like on a guy like Francis and I think that roses strikes GonNa try to get in and he's going to have to get clipped a couple of times to get in and I think that's why Francis Pizza in the first round but again I'm wrong all the time. What the fuck domino telling cater Jeremy Stevens do the whole main card. Come on I. I live a hard time picking these guys because I really have something for these old school like they even all calkins not really old school guy either. They remind me of a throwback both of these guys remind me of a throwback you know I like Jeremy Stevens Alive Calvin gator. I like what they're made up. I catered by decision. Catered by decision I think cater second round third third-round stoppage shit. I'm saying and I love Jeremy Stevens. I'm just I just think that they're both be laying on the line and I think Getting just flashbacks in my mind. Of Calvin Kate oversaw They Cardo Mental yes. I was there for that. So maybe that's why it stuck in my brain so I think and I don't I'm not I don't. I'm still on the band wagon if there was fight with Sabih. 'cause I think it's not a fight starts at its telephone. Ends Dude was coming on strong so I WANNA see some of the same in this fight and Jeremy Stevens is a great dance partner. Yeah but he's also coming off of his winless in his last four fights three losses one no contest with the air. So I don't see him. I know just stopped him with punches in the in the first round I I don't see him being stopped then again. It's hard to pick against him. Chris do I see him losing? I don't see him. Being winless in five fights either self loses. It's going to be a decision Greg. Hardy for Yoga. Yorgen decastro. That's interesting Greg Haughty. He's a beast to but he kind of fucked up in his last one didn't he didn't think he fought on short notice and lost a decision and it was to hear it was to Alexander. Volkov was more impressed with it was in. Moscow was more impressed with hardy in the loss. Then I was with Volkov which they already wasn't wasn't well he had short notice. There's something going on with to that fight. I think he's he's a beast. I know he works with our good friend. Dean Thomas the fuck data. I'm going with your into Castro because I could be a little chubby. Sometimes I feel like power so maybe I'm just I'm just. I'm just feeling something for that. Dude I mean I just watched his last fight and he did that walk off the knockout and it was something to be of a Justin Kaffa. Tell you right now. He's a fucking beast man. I listen that's one taking. You're taking hardy. I don't know I mean you're right to Castro got down. He is good. You know what Hardee's due for a win hearty second round. Knockout Jimmy. Jimmy Jimmy. Listen we could do. We could even do all the fights but let's just stop it at that. Okay I'M GONNA go finish the not just go sponsor but let me tell you about the Buffalo Wild Wings. Waiting for me downstairs. I'm going to eat those boneless wings and I'm going to have those fries and I'm going to watch the Embedded okay and then. I'm you know watch. Vikings Season Sixers came out. I can't wait dude Jimmy but it could show what a good show. Okay and what about you my friend? What are you doing the rest of the day honestly? I'm probably just going to have coffee and relax and not do anything. I'm just looking forward. I have radio tomorrow morning and I got the fight this weekend. And that's all I'm doing when you also got what you've got a friend in me. I audio cut on your got a friend in me. Y'All Jamie no matter where you you got a friend in me. Anything else up. That's it that's all I take on toy story. Jimmy don't know words Jimmy. Nowhere to single back Jimmy out attitude texture during the fights yes please do Jimmy. I miss you pal. Sorry about that okay. I'll talk to you later my God..

"Blazin reward points and have your food delivered directly to your door so you can sit there you can watch the fight and the prelims are about to start. It's Buffalo Wild Wings. Yes I just dropped the Frie- I'll cover while you get five second rule. Yeah yea I have not seen a card this good for a long time man because there's always cards were like all right. Boom boom will these fights. I am looking forward to the most. I want to see the other one so some of them. Some fights surprise you but I'm looking even from the early pre prelims consenting Gabor's Nico price that's a that's a fucking great fight and one. I bring up a lot. Is these young gun to Bryce Mitchell and Charles Rosa early. Prelims telling you this is as deep a card as I've seen certainly since maybe UFC two. Oh five some people would argue. This is the deepest carton. Ufc history there are about six or seven main events on this sweat co it stands to reason that call far as the former champion fighting. The karate hottie Michelle Waterson who by the way headline in her last fight they be fighting in a main event and Bryce Mitchell Charles wrote Sir fighting on. Ufc fight pass early on so yeah. It's one main event after the next and just just going to be crazy man. Seventy five fighters eight days your success. I met Francis Jersey Rosen's strike. I think that's the fight. Obviously against Ferguson. I WANNA see fight. Anybody all the five. I think he's the guy. I think I say this every time we talk about him but he's the guy that nobody wants to deal with. Because we fight conor you're fighting a giant name. It's a huge payday for everybody cowboys. Houston GATES. He's a big name but he's not on that level so you take your fighting this animal with with With a tremendous risk and not as much reward as as you would want from a guy like connor so I think just the fact that he's getting this title shot is is really great and it's not great luck but it's it's great that the lined up this way for him. Yeah I think you're right and a big reason why he's getting it. Is Tony Ferguson? Because Tony Ferguson. Believes that gateway is richly deserving of championship opportunity in the UFC interim belt or otherwise. Yeah but you're absolutely right about just engaged in Tony. Ferguson is very much cut from that. Same cloth two guys who just relish going into that dark place. That guys like me never wanted to go to as an athlete you know what I mean. They live in those dark places as you. You were a runner. No I mean I've always been a roller. I was the captain of my high school basketball team but if I went to a big public school there's no way I would have been. The captain logged any appreciable minute so athletic career was aided by going to a small school but I played varsity tennis basketball high school choice. Sean I'm five. Nine twin brothers like five eight and three quarters so that's really all the matter Shimmy right. Yeah Yeah Yeah. That's all that you definitely ruled the roost. Because you are taller you aren't you Jimmy. I tell people five eleven. Five six is probably more more true five six also but I feel like I'm sixty you do. But you're a former champion thank you. I've taken six kickboxing classes. You have a reason to feel alpha. You know what I find interesting guys is that I was reading that just engaging with not taking a short was fight against Khabib. I guess it'd be and he did Tony Ferguson. L. Because the style wise but it shows you his mentality because he knows he'll be fighting those take downs and that could be grueling. I don't think Tony's going for a fucking take down. He knows that this is going to be just a bond burner of just fisticuffs and elbow. Shore that Rashad Halloween Eddie? Bravo know what Tony's going to do. I'm not even sure. Tony knows acutely what he's GonNa do on fight night you know. He has really had a pension for sort of making adjustments and going with the flow of a fight. And it's just incredible the resume and the body work that Tony is put together and I hope I'm not a broken record when I am laying out Ferguson's credentials but it's like to do what he has done and to have never have competed for the sports. Ultimate prize is almost criminal crazies. A first ballot hall of Famer. Who put together the greatest lightweight winning streak ever right? He had double digit wins at fifty five before Khabib and yet no one talks about him as being on the Mount. Rushmore of is one of the four greatest fighters of all time and is prominently in that discussion. So Ferguson is putting a lot of his legacy on the line as well and I'm just excited for all the athletes. We talked to all these guys. I know you I mean. Could these guys sound anymore? Ready for these fights like they're all just chomping at the bit like the fans. You might be John. I'm wondering I'm looking at. I wonder if because of Tony at one point had one fight a year and in twenty six teen. He fought twice so maybe it was just like. I'm not saying OUTTA sight outta mind. No one forgets Tony Ferguson. Fighters that your first thoughts might be somebody who's been fighting more actively but you're right. I don't know why he hasn't spoken about in the top five fighter conversation every time. It comes up the first time that I heard about. Kabibi Tony Fighting. I was on a van with Joe Silva after Tony Ferguson had beaten Edson Barboza two thousand fifteen and so I said to Joe I said Oh you gotta give Tony a title fight right now. And he's like no. I WANNA do Ferguson. Let's go bieber. Magomedov essentially dates to two thousand fifteen. And you're right since then has been an active schedule and I think that's certainly is hurt. Him At least in the in the court of public opinion. Yeah well. I'm almost as excited even though again. There's no long standing dream of Ferguson. Fighting Justin Gage. He I think from purified perspective. I am looking forward to this more than I would've with Kazaa and again I'm saying that now because it's not happening but I I like watching gay Xi fight for a title and I think it's really fair so whichever one of these guys fights Habib after. It's a great fight but this fight. I'm looking for two as much or more than I would have against him fighting and the Gateway Bhatia Work Mattie outside the UFC right with successful title. Defenses and everything else. I'm just happy like you are Jim that he's getting a champion shot in the UFC. Because he certainly is earning well. Listen I have no dog in the race or is it a horse in the race with about? I will say this if it will he wins. Obviously we want. We've been waiting forever for that. Fight happened with him in a beam. But I would be equally if not more just intrigued to see the fight between just engaging in Abib because of the way that the styles clash because nobody's able to take down just engaging ground and pound because there's wrestling's out good he uses it strictly to stay up and not the wrestle. Just can't take them down. Just get up and work as kicks in his punches and he's got such a good gas tank could he'll be he gets pissed. Holy could be a do what he does to everybody else to just engage or could just get up an inflict our age. Just fuck man. That's why they play the Games and obviously could be and Justin had the same manager. Elliot so they have intimate knowledge of each other and some have suggested the. Maybe that's why I was so ready to go because he was getting updates on copy before some other people. Oh no doubt. He is maximized the extra three weeks. He got but I think he was pretty damn ready to go on April eighteenth but yeah man. It's all in front of and if the Habib Tony Fight doesn't happen a six time because of just gateway at least a fighter will have gotten in the way of it instead of a of a global crazy circumstances. And I'll tell you another. I don't know if it's been signed yet. But Woodley Against Gilbert Burns on the twenty third. That's a fight that I can't wait to see either because Gilbert Burns looked incredible I mean it was a very brief fight against Damian Meyer. But he's one of the few guys that has any experience now fighting with no audience and he said it made him a little. We talked to him a little nervous because of the sound. You're hearing that. You're not use to hearing so everybody fighting for the first time without a crowd. It's give me interesting to see how they respond to that. Yeah and Gilbert Torino. Burns is on a roll. He could be top five and two divisions but it is a real part of this equation for the fighters and I've been asked a lot leading up to the fights atmospherically. What's it going to be like for you guys? Call the fights candidly for me. It's like I got forty six athletes to master so I focused on the preparation. The what it's going to be like in that atmosphere and that arena. We have a call later today to go over some marching orders. Ufc wise but it's going to be weird but you know Jimmy. These cancer pretty noise cancelling your focused on the action. I'm not sure it's GonNa feel as differ to us as people think it Mike. While I'm so claustrophobic I always wear one on one off and I feel like I'm getting a little hot here like it's going a little with. I always leave one off because I feel like I'm GonNa Fishbowl and I have to be for many reasons terrible play by play announcer because I'd be too distracted by the noise around me. I have to hear the outside. I can't have my headphones on Mighty. They would kill me. John me you something the quarantine. What's an average day for you. How you breaking up the day? What are you doing so You know we were doing the home schooling for a while. Now it's the distance learning that is more associated with the school so there's legitimate work that has to get done like our kids have legitimate work that has to be completed. So it's a big part of the undertaking. One of us is assigned to my one and a half year old son at all times. He's head to head smashes over the fifty five days or so but it's been really hard you know. I know people have much harder. Circumstances than I'm dealing with but just with the three kids getting restless. The older one is starting to get concerned. The daddy's leaving so the kids have sort of been at the at the center of everything that I've been doing but I can't wait to get out of here. Man Just I gotta get Outta here. I really do. I think I'm a better father when I have a little bit of that separation and a I'm ready to go and and hopefully I think the big question for us is when we get home. What exactly are we going to do? Are we in quarantine away from our kids for forty eight hours or so? We don't know exactly what the Protocols GonNa be. But that's probably at the forefront of my concern right now as to how to handle it when I do come home. Isn't it nice to be working though like isn't it nice to have something to focus on and because there's so many people that are just literally running in circles hoping for check because they can't work their jobs are not open so just to be mentally focused on something like man? I'm really lucky to have a job that I'm still able to do that. Is the RUB right there. And we were so prepared for April eighteenth that I felt like I had already prepped. Sixty percent of that show so while everybody else was shouting boredom I was completely immersed in pay per view preparation and have been really for the better part of a month. I've never been in a better place in terms of my fighter cards in my preparation for UFC to forty nine. I'm used to having a bunch of shows leading into these patients. Dark for two months so I'm just ready to go boys speaking about being prepared. I think this the the fact that just got push-back Justin's fight would would tony. I get to help them. I mean a lot for other people. It's only a couple of weeks later. That does mean a lot for if I can. It really does. And we make a big difference if he says he had eighteen or nineteen minutes. Pure hell for Tony. A few weeks ago in theory to see twenty-five minutes of Health Forum. Now right well he's got the same mentality regardless but I definitely yes. It could do nothing but help him. The fact that the fight got wander for a guy like Francis in Gato who I think is the athlete that I've talked to you guys about probably the most in our time. He has built over the years. He's been going hard for like sixteen weeks and I do think you get to a point where it's just too much. I mean all indications are that. He's handled it pretty well. But for him and Rosen strike. I mean these guys have been in camps since like January. One roses strike seems dialed in though man. We had him on here the other day he. I mean I'm thinkin `bout asking him you still used to your power believing your power now you're fighting arguably the most powerful heavyweight ever knew Z. Does it kind of missile? You Game Plan and I don't think this guy's GonNa be looking for any disguise. I don't think he truly believes innes striking and look at his last fight..

"The Great Jon Anik but honestly there is no other way that I wanted to kick this new era. This fresh coat of paint. We are applying to this space. We figured out what we're going to do with the show. I knew exactly who I wanted as my first guest. And what better time than in the middle of a hectic Newsweek to bring on the play by play Voice of the USC a fellow born and bred Bostonian. You can catch the ANAKAN fluorine podcast on Mondays with this man. Jon Anik great to have you here. How are you man? Thank you for doing this. I am doing okay. Man Day by day I think like the rest of the world book. Congratulations to you and Happy to sort of Chris in the show so to speak by Matt always good to chat with you. Absolutely we are creating Bar Trivia question. Sean I guess history of the show and it's right off take it absolutely was not available today. So you know you make do. He told he told me to get you on so I I am so I have. We were talking a little bit off air about this. I have one kid running around during this pandemic and we're keeping them active but he can be a bit of a handful. You're probably hearing that. You'd probably like one kid grow up dude. Like how has life been in the Anacostia sold in the middle of all this? You know not easy. I mean I don't want to lead the League in complaints right now. I think all things considered we had pretty good and I know my daughter's at least one of them likes the fact that daddy has been home for a while. But it's tough you know. My daughters are eight and almost seven and it's Day nineteen of what has essentially been total isolation. I mean we're taking them outside and making them run which they don't like and thankfully we live in Florida so there's a pool But I think they're starting to hit a little bit of breaking points socially they certainly miss their friends. It's making them appreciate school. Which I think long term is a good thing right. They WANNA go to school. Which isn't always the case. But yeah we got a baby too so Certainly have our hands full homeschooling to the best of our ability and I think like a lot of UFC. Staffers candidly Waiting for that call from Dana to find out where the show is going to be so I can either get a car Figure out what my next move is dear. Do the older kids do they. Do they understand what's happening right now. 'cause my son just just thinks he's home from school. He doesn't really understand what's going on. I think they do maybe more. So the older one then my middle child. But I think things pop up when they're on the IPAD. And if she clicks on an article maybe reads a little bit about it. I think she heard even when schools were open that maybe young people were less prone to get super sick so I think she hung on that a little bit as sort of some positive thing But it's tough. I just think that a lot of kids crave routine not unlike adults and when that is taken away from them a- It's a weird transition but we're going through it were conditioned doing another probably eight weeks or so and You know just try to make the best of it as everybody's doing around the world you know you mentioned waiting for that. Call to come from Dana. Why in the? Afc has just been a weird time for you as a broadcaster. The play by play guy for the team. And you understand what's happening here. Sure but you know. We're looking at the stretch of time on the calendar very closely last year multiple events associating matchups were booked prior to this pandemic from that side of your life has just been kinda strange. It has been strange to not have a show on the books to know exactly which twenty-six fighters. I need to prepare for decks. I've only missed one show right. The Columbus Ohio show three or four days ago was the only show that has gone off my schedule so I have had pockets of time where maybe all have two or three weeks off in a row and then do a rip of six or seven out of eight weeks or something like that so I'm conditioned to a little bit of the British but yet to not have a show on the books as a super weird feeling and I've said this interview sort of over the last week or so. There's a lot of US present company included and perhaps foremost in some cases who have maybe pine for UFC OFF SEASON. Man If we shut it down for the month of September when when college football and the NFL or peaking and then come back. October. First it'll be the most watched show and UFC history. Give the staff a chance to to catch their breath and everybody who covers the sport. I wanted that off season now. I'm not so sure I do have a month off. I'm Johnson to hit the road. And hopefully you know all things considered and everybody's health considered it sooner rather than later. Dexter obviously a big sports fan very intelligent sports fan like myself since our teams when championships almost every area you know you've seen all these major sports shutting down waiting for this to pass. But you look Dana White in the AFC and he wants to keep this train going. You've known the big boss for a long time now John. Are You surprised by this? No not at all right. He he's bullish she's relentless. He is in pursuit of this fight for more reasons than water. I mean I don't have to sell your audience on the magnitude and the importance of this singular fight in terms of UFC lightweight history and UFC history overall. But when you couple that with the backdrop that it's been made five times you can understand why there's a huge promotional urgency to make sure this on April eighteenth now that it looks as though Habib Mammography is not going to be able to get out of Russia. Maybe I'm a little surprised that they still seem to be all in because all indications are that that fight has gone away but you know I was. I had trepidation. Certainly when I got the call for that March twenty first show maybe it was gonna be Oklahoma and really know how it was going to get there or leave once I got there but now I feel like it's Kinda my obligation that if the fighters are willing to be there and we can all get tested than I gotta make an effort to be there right. I mean if you're thinking about it from a fighter standpoint and everything they have to deal with training elements everything displaced weight cutting everything that goes into it for them kind of feel like at this point for me on an individual level. At least I can do is try to show up to an edit trailer or wherever they want me to call this fight and and you know try to service. It's been this weird relationship. Turn between the Media Dana. Why I don't think we've always Seni- anyways I mean there's a lot of media media members that have been all over Dan about putting this event on. I haven't really been one of those people I mean. Do I think these events should be put on during this time probably not however I do understand that nobody is going into this blind like this. Isn't that church? I read about in Florida. Where the pastor basically said screw the roles. We're not changing a thing. Five hundred people come pandemic or not. I'm not sure the due diligence John is ongoing and has been for a long time the AFC doesn't obviously want Egged on their face. Someone gets infected so I see both sides for sure but I also think it's totally fair for members of the media who are more versed on this virus than I am to ask those questions. This can be negative space and in my opinion maybe it will be less negative. Should there be a little more clarity on the situation in my off base with that. No and I've heard from a lot of fans who say you shouldn't be Jones into call the fight you need to stay home and Dana. White assured our entire staff Very early on in the process that if you need anything medically that he was here for you and I know that gave my wife everybody else sort of some semblance of security but like does my wife want me to get on a plane and go to Abu Dhabi right now. Does she want me to drive to Las Vegas? There are so many unknowns. The situation is so fluid and ever changing on a day-to-day basis that. It's hard to know what the next move is going to be. What the right move is going to be. You know I'm not trying to put a bunch of people endanger. I've essentially been shut down away from all human beings for three weeks. But certainly if I'm GONNA be breathing the same air as the fighters you would think I gotta be tested. You know So there are a lot of different elements to this but I do think that you emotionally kind of ebb and flow a little bit at least as an employee thinking man I I hope they cancelled these shows. Because I really can't leave my kids and leave my family because then I got a quarantine and come back and then you get to a place maybe few days later where it's like. I gotTA GET OUTTA here. I'm having cabin fever. I Want Support. Dane in the UFC and workers show so Just trying to stay in my lane and Do things like this and stay busy. Keep THE MIND. Sharp Bend Whatever promotional they decide and are able to pull off hopefully the staff. Can you know help them? Execute I smoked two dominant crews this week who is scheduled to join you on the desk to forty nine and he is fired up to say the least to call that event not only does he want this event to move forward but he feels like this would be a huge victory for the sport of MMA. Putting this event on would hype up. The entire world is doing something that other sports are not. Do you agree with that sentiment? No I mean I wouldn't see this is a win for mixed martial arts. I think a lot of people are on the firm opposite side of that and think it would be a win if the UFC fell alive with everybody else. Just shut things down. You know indefinitely But you know they did. The show in Brasilia granted. Everybody was there at the time you can be sure that this well oiled machine that is the UFC and this brass executives have thought about logistically. How best to pull this off? You know announcers edit trailers minimizing the people that are gathered under one roof you know shuffling the fighters in and out. I mean you gotTa think they've been immersing themselves in trying to pull off the impossible for weeks now if not a full month so I have every bit of confidence that they will you know. Check every box and try to make it as healthy and proficient advantage possible I know in sorta texted with Shale Sunan to pull off an event for him was a huge huge challenge but they were able to get through it. We'll see However unscathed but Yeah I don't see it as this huge win for Ama if you can pull it off but certainly in my heart. I'm hoping that Dana and the brass is able to do so for sure we do not have had any fight cards in the last couple of weeks but the news cycle hasn't slowed down at all. You mentioned Habib magnate off pretty much stuck in Russia. The chances of that twenty Ferguson happening pretty much slim to not at this point from all all senses of it. All I thought it'd be the nail in the coffin. Looks like it won't be like you mentioned when you woke up Monday morning and heard about that instagram live. How did you react to it? Well I can't say I'M SURPRISED BY ANY HEADLINE WAKING UP. You know it's almost like you open your cell phone or whatever your news feed. It is and you're just hoping that there isn't something terrible in terms of the death toll or anything else but Yeah I was surprised I guess because I thought could be was moving closer to maybe where the fight was going to go down and I think that's the danger in all of this and the fluidity of it is such that it does change in twenty four hours and I think could be thought he was getting ahead of it. And and probably in retrospect should've stayed put but again as we're sitting here. Mike on March thirty first. We don't know if this event is going to be in the United States we don't know the extent to which just engage. You was preparing for April eighteenth. I have heard from one of his teammates that he has been in the gym. And and you've got to think that anybody was tabbed as a backup or told to get ready even before the corona virus reared its ugly head. It was so we'll see if he's prepared. We'll see if he accepts the fight. What's the upside for Tony? I think the biggest disappointment for me in all of this. Is that Tony Ferguson. Somehow someway April eighteenth is not going to be competing for undisputed UFC CHAMPIONSHIP. The fact that it might be an interim belt again just seems totally absurd with the body of work. That Ferguson has put on paper but there are a lot athletes that want to fight. You know we talk a lot about this singular fight but you know all too well Mike. We got fight cards from March. Twenty first through April twenty fifth and there are a lot of big names in high profile. Athletes littered across those fight card. So you know. The cupboard certainly is not bear. There are a lot of high profile guys who WANNA fight on April eighteenth and We just got to see if they can sort of make it a lot. I feel like medicals are going to be an issue you know. There's so many hurdles to get to April eighteenth but hopefully we can get there. Yeah I thought it was really interesting to see some of the names that store to stepped up to the plate yesterday. Tyron Woodley and Kobe. Covington WANNA fight. Each other doesn't through his name in the hat even come are been in a Mazda..

"I'm writing something that will keep someone that'll intrigue someone that they have to finish it and that's where good copy comes from. Most people think great copy comes from hi-p words and then you end up looking car salesman and actually people away swipes. I Swipe I can't send a swipe out to my Lloyd how I talk. They know who I am. It's not gonNA work. And and so they're going to check out and hence. I failed as a copywriter. If I don't have their attention. So my whole approach to copywriting is so different. And that's why a lot of people will tell me I think you're such a great storyteller because literally my whole copy is in its own way. A Journey And it's like I say it's a season of breaking bat away. Well now now that the marketing is sort of more of this like two way communication. We put out marketing and people can actually interact on our marketing. Right they can leave. Comments can leave reviews with the. That's that could be good and bad right but the good thing about it is the people that are ideal clients are essentially telling us how to sell to them. They're basically using the words they're using the language they're using the they're showing us what sort of things interests them and the things that they desire through their comments on the marketing that we're putting out there and it sounds like what you're saying is that like we can sort of leverage that in this new sort of two way communication of marketing that we've got these days as well and it's so easy to do research now to understand what your market wants. It's so easy today so I did. This live in front of a bunch of students. I was teaching copywriting too and it was a fun. Exercise put myself out there on the UH try it so we picked the space. The students showed dog training. I don't have a dog. I know nothing about puppy dog training or just anything about it. Right said all right so onto facebook. I typed in dog training or dog. Training in the top bound. A few groups found one group that had like twenty eight thousand people in it are awesome. Joined the group it. Luckily auto approve me. Sometimes you might take a few hours to get uproot on approved me I logged into the group and I just grow old and what I started doing is I created a word document that they could watch me so I split my screen with two browsers at one had google docs up and had one that had the group up and every time I would catch phrases or words that I saw being used I copied and pasted them over and these were just. It was such an amazing exercise unless the scrolled for about five or six or seven minutes in front of the group. I swear I had enough. I take which words to focus on where they dislike specific terms. You saw repetitively used. Yes look for phrases. I looked for so I look for things that were problems. Like how do I do this? How do I fix that? I looked for pain points like I remember one. It caught my attention. It was something like my dog won't stop pissing on my on my couch and it was just like I just I just figured like man. That's probably something new dog owner. Just kinda like super relate to so I just wrote that phrase as is on the word document There were words. There is a certain type of leash. Certain type of Training toys tools. That were coming up lines. I wrote them down. Because that's jargon that's what if your dog training mindset you. Those things will mean something to you. I want to amend my copy There was just common problems common objections. Oh there was one My dog will bite me like my dog bites when I try to discipline him. I just never thought about that dog and I'm like well. That's gotTa suck if you're going to be something in the sub-headline there that's got to be something. I could make video about for an ad and I had no intention of doing a product on this. I just wanted to show students. He can pick pretty much any obscene example now go online forget facebook groups. If that's too much doesn't Google it. Look up the top articles go to easing articles dot com and type in your subject and just read to see what people writing about. What topics are being written about Amazon? Dot Com type in dog training. Pull up ten books that are popular. Pull up their table of a table of contents and look for trigger words. I mean it's just I really believe if you gave me two or three hours and gave me a niche. I know nothing about in two to three hours. I could write something that would make you think a pro and I still don't know anything about it but I can catch all these words and phrases quickly off of the Internet. Yeah there's golden those Amazon reviews to you. Know the the reviews. They're going to tell you. These are the things that we like about this book. These are the things we don't like about this book and you'll start to figure out real quickly. What people are digging about the content and things they don't like about the content that's right yeah we use core all the time you know for a read it. Those are all amazing. I Love Cora just because people are literally asking questions that are typically pain points around whatever topic. You're so much you're exactly right man. There's so much that's the thing about it. We didn't have twenty thirty years ago. This is why I tell everybody. We'RE BLESSED OPERATING. Today's easy just formula pop plug in all the information is out there and your consumers are engaging with you. You know what you can split test.

"Long time. I don't know Ellen personally I know personally. Good Guy Yeah Nice guy what. I'm John I feel like we're continuing. Oh I should the white bellied powerful crying. I look fat come on very. Is John like an eight guys are we. What is going on pro? Jimmy always says every time I come on but you know. It's actually more work more to do it. You know the microphone gets switched up if I don't use so we are speaking of being professional and AH being a professional in the room you might have been the only one you Anthony Linhart Smith because myself Daniel Cormier and Michael businesses were having having a hard time being professional the other day we listen for people that are no no. I don't win. This thing's airing. We did a year. You're in review well best of the year of nineteen and It was a little round table discussion. You pretty much. It's the host of it and I want to apologize because I was. I was a mess. So sorry Johnny. It Noah Jimmy. The Jimmy's looking at you like he knows your pain. I feel what we we married the same woman now. We're talking about in court. I understand what John had to deal with. Although I don't get to see that woman nearly as frequently as you do with your twice a week but yeah went off the rails pretty pretty quickly. Mattie for sure I mean part of it conceptually was to have it be a free flowing roundtable and they didn't really want me in the traditional host role but at the end of it they needed voiceover work. They needed. Certain Liners Daniel Columbia which is not shut. The fuck up and work the pay per view the night before I worked the post show after and I'm just trying to go eat some Korean. A barbecue in DC decided the end of the shoot would be a good time to get in my way so you were the least of my concerns Canley. I'm still after Korea. You were trying to do. A liners was just to kind of tie INS that. They're going to need post production and I really need the outline again. He kept talking over them. Yeah and yet right. Exactly just the safeties on all the INTROS. In the Rosen Daniels. Have none of that. Call me a tight ass and everything so producer Anthony. He was he was very happy with it. So hey did I we. I know I had fun So I WANNA see how this thing turns out. Let me ask you when you do this broadcast. How long long because when? I'm watching the when I'm watching a main card like I'll play when I'm watching the UFC. I got my whole thing set up and I'm like okay. Do this and that during the Saturday I'll get get my little nap in and I'll be bright Bush for the main card she told. Bushy tailed south pushy high nurse. How pushy pushy? I'd nobody would have caught that. I'm helping you embarrassed me for John Hop we're all friends using anyway. So John Bright eyed bushy tailed. I would be awake for the main card high talk a little espresso. You'll have to be energetic. How how long? How many hours is it at a protest because you start from the early days from the time we first start taping something to the time we get off off the Eric B eight hours? It's it's pretty insufferable in a lot of respects right if you compare it to call on a football game granted those guys the NFL guys are doing seventeen in straight weeks and I have a lot of respect for that but these broadcasts are like nothing else. I'm complete toast after them. And there are a lot of different challenges and things going on behind the scenes is that people are a little bit blind to in terms of transitions and adjustments being made on the fly and we have an in house producer and a whole show that needs to line up with the television television broadcasts so it's pretty involved very mentally draining. And that's why do twenty four forty one. Because if I had to do forty I think I'd just walk home and collapse at the end of it. So you twenty four year do they. Do they want you to do more. No I think it's a pretty good balance. You know they try to not. We'll have more than three straight weekends. I think I had a stretch this year of five and six weeks and I literally did collapse in my front door. Way when I got home from Wichita Wichita Kansas or whatever it was. It's a lot for sure and the preparation to his a lot. You know and we've talked about this before but when you're talking about twenty six fighters and if it's too shows in eight days it's fifty two fighters and I try to give them all their fair amount of prep so It's pretty daunting but you know I think it becomes the devil you know win. And that's what it is for me now. Eight plus years you know. Do you do now when you're doing all the prep work. 'cause you prep work is so good do you have. Will you have it on paper in front of you or on a computer. How are you comfortable? referencing your notes. So I mean I just happened to have Alexander Volkov Skis fighter car right here. I know a lot of people are not watching this on video. I'm holding get up for the guys right now. I find that handwriting Afresh Fighter Card for every forces me to memorize some things forces me to go through a very very arduous process that I think helps me on the air and helps my brain. That isn't that shark. My memory's not great. It's not like I'm Joe. Rogan Kenny Florian. With a steel trap remembering sequential. Show things that happen in round two of two thousand fifteen so we all gotta you know play to our strengths and for me. It's an open book test and I have to prepare God. Damn lodden hasn't failed yet. I feel like I haven't seen my old friend Kenny. Florian what does he do you guys still doing the podcast with Longo too right right. Yeah every Monday. We got the antic employees and podcasts. You know he's no longer featured on UFC broadcasts at least right now but. Hopefully that's something that changes. I'm sort of hopeful full that we went back to US PM. Because he and I really cut our television teeth there in two thousand eight a program called. Ma Live was hoping there'd be some sort of reunion between us but as yet it hasn't isn't materialized but he wants on that desk or on that commentary table and hopefully They call his number at some point here. I hope so he's talented and he also did a great bit with fucking Octo- what's his name. Yes yes LAMONICA Lamonica. The guy that's not really as little Brasilia did a bit with him. He did a bit with him where he was he was Al Pacino. It was the Al Pacino and Robert Robert Deniro seen from heat. Oh my God. It was great. Wasn't it can. He's got some. There's no doubt about it you I wish I wish I was out on our podcast. I can't he's got a lot pills. Can you guys hear me. I'm sorry I'm just talking over. You like unprofessional asshole Johnny Berry to make sure I started screaming like Al Pacino and Kenny Florian from that bit. It's a bit. Did you. See The bit. Brilliant absolutely brilliant nat can close. Got Some acting challenge for sure. I I don't remember heat. How does Al Pacino do? GimMe all your guy. He doesn't what a play with. Jimmy started I am. I am an energetic ball of. Just I'm bright eyed and bushy. John Having coffee today. So what Bush when I'm having coffee today So it's weird when you don't have caffeine for the day it really affects you me. We we have a good energy just energy eh balance it out like what did you think of Goddard's stoppage. I didn't think it was bad. I thought it was a little premature but it was like it made me feel better when I saw what the judges judges scorecards were. Yes so chill Sonnen and I don't think it's because shale has a relationship with Covington he thought Colby was intelligently defending himself. I guess I could see that side of things but I'm okay with it. You know he was getting pretty leaky there right and I think sometimes you know whether Marcotte or do the jaw was broken gainer fractured or what it is or isn't I don't know but all of a sudden the blood really started coming out and I don't know that fifty one seconds we're GonNa make things any better so I can certainly defend the stoppage. I can understand why koby wants to go out a certain way but Goddard is certainly one of the best in the business and you know more often than not. He's is GonNa make the right decision you doing. Better Goddard now. Put you on blast but you had a little thing. I'll be frank right. I mean he don't like me. You know I mean. I think that's pretty clear right it. There's some big time heals a lot of wounds. There's been some distance you know. I always I will always respect him. As one of the better referees in the game I will. You'll say humbly that I think he has tweaked his style since March when I and others criticized him publicly for maybe talking to the fighters in a condescending way you know I'll go to my cremation chamber believing that that affected change at least in terms of the way he approaches the fighters and if he disagrees you know power to them but I have a lot of respect for him. You you know and the job he has to do. I am a huge Tomorrow WHO's been fan. I think he the way he handles himself. In and outside of the cages ages is something to be said but I felt I felt. That was definitely a little premature faulk. The guys fighting almost ten minutes with a broken jaw and he went down. He's moving his head. He's he's covering up why he gets up first thing he says what are you doing so yeah and listen. I'm I really feel weird being go to baffled Kobe. 'cause I'm out of here I don't like the guy and I'm and well you. It's about the immediate protest. You're right I mean. He protested immediate but he was there. He didn't look he didn't look like he was rock. Little shoot. Yeah I know it was a little it. It was a little soon but I do think continued. I don't I don't think that was gonNA stop hating him and let him get up now. You're thinking and he had knocked him down now. Now you're just you're just having a theory out there yes you know. What's amazing man? Go ahead John. I'm how much Kamara use men had left in the tank right. I mean when he went back to his stool after the first twenty minutes. He's dancing backwards back to his stool. He just it sounds too simplistic stick jammed matt to say that he wasn't going to be denied this night but like dude without a weapon. That isn't human. I just don't know that you were going to beat Comoros. mm-hmm and Covington was a lot better than everyone knows. You can find a copy on the first round. I thought it was at least two two going into the fifth. Maybe even three one. I mean it was fighting very well. I feel that Who's got the decision so he wouldn't let them get the decision -sition or else see what else happens? I I just I just look at that stoppage and say good. They might have been worse ones but yeah it was pretty bad. It was pretty bad for what was that stakes there. You know what I mean. If he's GONNA lose on most of the fighters I think most of the fighters as you would ask would certainly dove tail with Matt's opinion especially fighters who have been in that championship setting they really want the opportunity to To go out on their sword so to speak so I hear you man I hear you. It was. It was a great fight though. I mean I knew it would be a good fight. Nobody saw Japan being a total list. Astana fight nobody going to stand up and fight without going down for twenty five minutes. I agree I anyone who says they didn't expect back. The singular takedown attempt on either side is being disingenuous. I agree with you and it's funny that I keep bringing up but I think we both fell caught a little bit short-changed that we didn't get to see a little bit of wrestling because I if you're a fan of wrestling and their two styles.

"Doing that started coffee business Going through some live stuff and yet not board at all. Ben Actually the exact opposite. How was having your own? Jim Is that still. Is that still doing well doing great. I mean it's a process brick by brick and takes a lot of time and as matters is an Jim I mean. It's a long arduous process but We're we're right where we WANNA be with it and it's coming along and I did my whole camp there so I'm pretty happy the level we're at right now. Where where is the gym and is it a mixed martial arts Jews it open to the public or is it more fighters or both public yet? Worden written Lewis Center of suburb north of Columbus Ohio. And yes open to the public. He's really. It's a martial arts gym. I mean that's what we focus on first and foremost most kids and and ready to their families and stuff doing martial arts and of course we have a separate time for the fight training. Are you good with all the stuff that you you have to be like you know getting insurance and all that stuff does your mind work well for that Stafford. You have somebody else help you with that. I do have someone else helped me. Only because it's so So so much time consuming but I think I have a perfectly fine mind for it. I take all the end up being better businessman than I was fighter. I mean I I have a good mind for my whole family. They all own their own businesses. Alcoa's my dad owned a business and I I enjoy the process Says just time consuming. So you got to have someone manage and take care of all the media's ass yes it's good to do it now to while you're fighting it's a good time to have it because you're still an active fighter so you probably be more likely to bring people in his an active fighter which is very smart. Yeah well there's that and then there's also it'll be set up for actually retired right when I fully to walk away. I'll have something that's not started from scratch. Is it something thing that you just. When when you're done fighting that a lot of guys just want to be around it's almost like some of that plays football and comes back and coaches? Do you just want to be around. Do you think you'd miss it if it wasn't in your life at all. Yeah that's exactly like being around the sport. I like seeing other guys. Come up when it's fire others helped him and more they pay for my kids man you know I want them to Have a gym. That grow up in. And when it's your Jim It's a lot easier to have the narrow the time and the guy that actually lives it like it's way more fun than doing what you're doing now and say fuck the money's getting low I gotta get a real nine to five and forty. You know what I'm saying so now it's like you could put a lot of work into it but it's like it's It's very fulfilling because you're like it's your it's your Gig so I don't know man I love it man. Congratulations on that that's awesome. Yeah tasty mushy and that's exactly right. I mean there's a lot about sense of fighters have no compensating or negotiate like which has to do on the podcasts always and none of that really sparks my interest. I mean I've done some podcasts stuff. I've done some commentating for local fights and like I don't takeout ever pursue it to the point where I'd be very high level editor. It's just not interesting I just want to be on those mats everyday and That's the only thing that gets me up in the morning Jordan. Everything else gets boring real quick and and I just doesn't excite me a by any means I'll do it for money but would do it for or any other reason. There's no love they're coming from me. I'll tell you got some you've got some props from Mickey Gall and his crew. He came down eight trains with you. Mickey Mickey couple guys came down. They were training for the fight and You know we're good friends. He's a great guy. He's got a lot consensual and I think we're gonNA see some good things in the future to. Do you like odd training people. Do you like teaching people as or are you good. It's it's it's not easy to do. Everybody absolutely love it here again the. US another thing. I think I'll do better than even be in a fighter. I think I'll be a better coach. you know this generation fighters will different. You know so you Kinda have to adopt a little bit. They're not old school savages. Decide you know. Give me a fight in those go. You know everybody treats it more businesslike. These days I think and and a little bit pre Madonna days and so so you kind of have to treat them a little bit differently But in terms of the technician skill set training. I think I have a a lot of value that I can bring their in terms of like the managing and a all that kind of bullshit. I guess not really my thing but I think I can build fighters is pretty well especially Stuff at something. I have a lot of knowledge in so I really enjoyed. I said there's nothing else that that gets me up more than being being on every day and you definitely see a difference between them and say a younger version of yourself. You can see the difference in how they are compared to how you God yeah. Yeah I don't know that I necessarily want someone like myself other than other than the fact that I mean. I thought on twenty four hours notice multiple times I mean I find on less than a day's notice a few times and these guys can't get them to fight on two weeks notice then they'll everybody wants the big opportunity. I wear us when I was coming up. We just wanted to fight. We didn't care about the money or the crap. Yep Yeah now that the the you have C. is so big people can see that there's there's such a tremendous amount of money to be made. Yeah they probably are more cautious and more direction oriented. Yeah there's certainly a part of it and I'll take their software all around but I think this generation altogether softer group of people and document our day. You know this thing was new. We were excited. We're happy to do it and we're all just happy shit like we can go a a fight someone for free and people are GonNa Watch it you know or or not go to jail or whatever and these guys. It's just a completely different thing and you know I hope that. Find some real savages. I got a few guys that are pretty tough man hours out you know Begin we focused. More focused focused more on teaching martial artists. And then if you're going to be a fighter that's go if you don't want to be a fighter you're at school too but I want to promote the martial arts and the great take that it can do for these kids that grew up on it. I think the difference is at least when I was fighting. Is like if felt like it was going to be over at any moment so you had the really because there wasn't a lot of money in it so if you didn't love the fight you really wouldn't be in there. There's no reason to be in there there. Unless you're a fucking Weirdo you. You're not and then you find out. It's not view when you get it but it's different so these kids growing up like autism Conor McGregor meet with that fucking liquor in this one. They can money like this. So it's a different thing is a different thing now because they know it's not going away like that we were fighting. I remember being like right. I remember I literally remember thinking like all right I'll take this fight because I mean fuck I mean this could be over and I had something to tell my kids about when and I used to fight in a cage is crazy thing that used to be legal and but you know the kids nowadays you know they know it's not going away. It's going to be here and I don't know that's why I'm I'm betting it's the same at your school like folk on a focus on the martial artists. I oh yeah algae. Yeah I got a Jitsu school. I mean I gotta tie there too and everything but like it's it's strictly like my fighters obviously like last night. I saw my crew owl and held fucking wiedeman everybody but at Butler because somebody comes in off the street they can't like these rules. It should. It's not like a gold's gym blocks. They gotTA leave the get four stripes and all that kind of stuff but you know you go along a lot. It's more like I'm not I love it. It's Christmas to attack it. If it was just long goes I attack it but if you go. There is kind of reminiscent a rocky three when they visited fucking Apollo. Oh to try to get them better. Everybody's walking around with shirts off the fuck in back in a towel. I don't know but it's a hard core fucking place. I don't know you got all types you know with you. I'm right and you gotTa have vote Okay and you gotTa have both for mental right like you just only do the martial art stuff kind of like start feeling a little bit soft right you gotta work with savages as well. Yeah man you got an animal out every now and then but you know again you know business side though right you gotta make money man. That's what the business ain't nothing. If they make money you make money off the martial arts so yeah can also reach each of much wider audience and actually be fulfilling for you to help inspiresleep. I got one guy. He's loss I think one hundred forty pounds. Yeah he was morbidly obese and now he's living in a much better life things like that and then you know even though you know. He's never going to be a fighter. Is Never we're GONNA walk into a cage or anything. That's more inspiring. beat if I build a world champion man I say the same shit. I love that. I've done a couple of instagram. The grand posts of guys that train with me. They came in like I did a few of them and I say this came came in a nice humble like fat kid and now he's a fucking Jitsu Superhero where they looked at the rash guards on now. They're in shape. I mean shoot man. I love that and to me. If somebody was is like in a situation where the approached and get embarrassed in front of their family by some drunk or something and they now could have the power to defend themselves and take care of that dude that to me is as important as any fucking champion. The you know what I mean because that's where it really counts. You know why would focus focus on that and it's exactly the same with the kids. Man You know this world we live in specially these days can be brutal for these kids. You know we we really try to empower them and reach out to them and I see some of these kids coming in with their heads down day one a month later they're walking around like they'll fuck up everybody in the joint sir about the next happy man. That's great do you think that Being there all the time like your I came back and started fighting again and I wonder if training guys all the time and being around it makes it in a way harder to step away. Because you're always seeing guys getting ready for fight Do you think that is actually going to keep you wanting to fight longer. The more you're seeing guys getting ready and training you know that's a good question and that's a good point that you make that haven't really thought about it. We'll play by ear. Orissa goes one fighter. Tom Chimera now alleged to fight you. You put the two guys away so you expected footage was the ego correct. Yeah yeah so fuck while. It's such an exciting time for the welterweight division. I feel I feel a lot going on and I'm thinking about you. Who would even some of these like the top top guys? It's all exciting fights. Is there anybody in particular like a style. Maybe not a person just this sky style versus me would be a fight of the night. Is there anybody on the radar that you'd like to the go to be honest. I haven't really thought about it much at all man. I got an on hold on Sunday evening. And Straight to my kid's been hanging out with him Star Gift Prep for Christmas about to go by kids at dirt bike for Christmas. I I don't know what life is how I ended up in this situation by in dirt bikes for kids on Christmas store and buy some print says all ship for my daughter. So what a world world man so great time will come March Twenty Eighth Columbus Ohio that you have ceased coming here. Some fighting on that talking to Dana Sean. About a Tony names have the crossed my mind. I I don't care I like being in the Cajun as long as there's a man Senate across from me willing to do battled and happy dude. And you're saying you didn't plan your you didn't see like how differ your life. Then maybe you thought you didn't plan having this stable or normal in existence when you when when you were younger like buying just toys for the kids and doing normal stuff. They're nothing stable about this shit man. It's a day day by day. Grind bad crazy that things drivers of trying to support three kids by going out in a cage and fighting riding another man is not a stable way to live by any means. Yeah it is very unpredictable. I mean just the Christmas you said You'd never saw yourself buying a dirt bifurcated like is this not how you saw yourself as an adult when you were.

I like what they oh and I want to thank him because me and my wife started watching that show that he recommended these the underground six would Ryan Reynolds. The only thing would Ryan Reynolds is like I like it. I like I like it. Yeah but he's literally the same dude in every movie. I mean he's literally just deadpool. He's just a wise guy. He's not wiseguy. Like the guys that you goof it on at the Copacabana and right. I seen that by the way. Good Job Jimmy. And they they did have you in there for a bit but I thought that you have you know but what was I to talking about Burma right back the fuck. I know I wouldn't want me to do. I'm so tired today because I I didn't have any teeth whitened and the lack of caffeine. My Body is really adjusting to know coffee. You know what one day. I'm going to get my teeth whitened because I told you earlier that Like sometimes I got my I run out of Listerine listerine in my car so I don't Wanna I smoke weed so I'll take some coffee and Espresso Richard around my mouth spit out. Yeah yeah I understand that but then that can't be good for the color of my teeth. No but once you get them whitened you know it takes about an hour and it's pretty easy and a good for a while and don't have coffee for a day or two. Yeah but I have the whole problem with me is i. Don't really care less my unless the yelling really Brown. But I don't know man. Yeah yeah well my wife GonNa leave me because my teeth. Well she better not help got her loss now. What do you not even sure world hunger? Ah Fuck Dude. I'm late headed Jimmy. That could that hurts feelings. The second Jamie Jimmy. No I enjoy that I would do for sure. I mean I'm crying. What are you getting ready to go out and do so you can see me working? I just see a hat the head. I'm just waiting in the past some deer heads on the wall buffalo heads. What's going on man? Are You on cloud nine right now. Body 'cause that was a hell of a fight. I mean. I did what I plan on doing time on the next one now now. That's not one hell of a victory dance right there. Are you happy. Of course. Yeah I'm satisfied. I did the job that I set out to do. And that's what it's all Alabama man. I'm not looking for much more than that. Were you worried that the layoff would affect you. I mean having to lay off sometimes effects guys a little bit. Well it did a little bit. I think it took me maybe two three minutes to get into the fight. Get into a little bit but once things started going along a little bit Didn't have no problems. Did you reach each under him and grabbed his arm. At one point it was Kinda hard to see what you were doing. You had his arm so he couldn't hit you while you were while he had his final. Yeah well breath yet because you know he's known for those elbows from that rubber guard stuff stuff. I was grabbed his wrist. And you know that also prevented him from being able to pull on my head that way. I could manipulate not posture myself and You know you just I man I've been. You're training hard this whole time off so I thought strong and there was no way he was catching back did you. How close did you feel like close close at all where it's a guy and I might blackout here? No no not at all. I didn't feel threatened at all. I knew that I was in a position. Where a mistake would me at a huge threat? But I wasn't in a position because my on my left arm was behind his back. I thought he was going to look for the plot But for whatever reason he never did he kept it. Locked up in non might really hurt him bad because yeah he looked. I mean you will look definitely the fresher pressure fighter even know. You look like you're in jeopardy like you said one wrong move could have been your downfall but the fact that you weathered that the next round he you he definitely looked worse to wear. Yeah you're you're you're exactly right I mean you to You know what it is. You can't be squeezing like that for that long. Yeah something's gotTa give. How did you feel between rounds? Purfleet we find your first round was pretty slow You know it was in my normal. Wasn't normal pace so I felt fine. I mean I thought one hundred percent now you looking great lately. I mean what you did to the EGO Sanchez. In what was is going to be your last fight ending on top in a beautiful brutal fashion but yet you came back and now you still brutal you still do beautiful things. What made you want to quit? And then how if you quit for a month and you came right back. What made you want to jump right back right? Well I guess I did quit for a month and come right back like Carlos condit right. That's right to be honest at that time. I just didn't have the excitement of the sport. I think I was getting a little bit burned out. I kind of just ran myself through the grinder just training constantly putting so much pressure on myself and that ended up being a blessing in disguise to a macy's l. and then it went through some other things in life and didn't have the opportunity to come back console now and that time was a blessing in disguise. Manner kept working my strength a lot stayed up on the cardio worked my fundamental skills a lot more. I mean you guys know as to you know you start getting into all these other funny stuff at becomes problematic you know the fundamentals admits owes you can always work on those always making better. And that's what I spent my time off doing negative fundamentals better we'll wrestling and You know so Reinvigorated me all around my my energy was and I just felt like fighting this time it. It didn't feel like I was just going through the motions again. It felt many times or House. Kind of starting to feel So yes I'm just a much more excited to be back in there again. Do you find yourself getting very bored and the time you had off no not also busy open mon Jim you know start a business..
My Platonic Romance on the Psych Ward
"Today's essay is about making friends in a really unusual place. Genie banescu writes about her relationship with a woman named anita in her essay my platonic romance on the psych psych ward. It's read by actor director. Miriam shore who stars in tv land's younger. She's also appeared in the americans. The good wife and jessica jones anita and i met five years ago as roommates at a hospital just outside of new york city according to the brochure and our patient and take folders the hospital scene at grounds boasted rolling lawns open meadows forests and a gazebo but and why would we care about landscaping. The brochure reminded me of a commercial. I had seen for hulu while watching who we didn't need an advertisement for the hospital. We were locked inside. I was twenty eight stuck in yet another manic episode in yet another psychiatric ward anita was twenty four experiencing her first anik episode. A lack of sleep had left with purple crescent under her eyes. We sat on her uncomfortable twin beds and shared stories. That would make new roommates in most situations since i'm comfortable. Anita told me that in the ambulance she had suspected she was being driven to a secret location and a team of progressive political operatives would prime her for presidential campaign. I knew the recent election was over. She said this was for future campaign. She looked down on confiding all this so i offered my own embarrassing story and once i was crossing the street and hallucinated that my eyes had fallen out by held up traffic while i patted the ground searching for my eyes and that was our introduction because in a psych ward friendships reverse engineered you start with the deep stuff off and get to the shallow stuff leader.

"And when you're a high performance athlete, and you're consuming an unnatural amount of food in regards to what maybe your body frame of your genetics allow you to do, you know, obviously, someone like Thor those strongman guys is what I think of when I think of this. I'm thinking, okay. These guys have very very highly body mass that require an incredibly unrealistic amount of food. Now, what answer what would answer your question is? Can we actually figure out whether the body can absorb only fat? And protein faster than it can absorb the combination of fat protein and carbohydrates. Is there a bottleneck on the peps in production? The body is there bottleneck on these pro- as spoke protein, adjusting enzymes, amylase, carbohydrate, digesting enzymes is the body bottleneck in producing these enzymes as well as insulin or can the body actually produced just as much of these enzymes as it needs in the context of animal foods based diet. I think this is gonna be Anik going to be anecdotal. If you're not a super, high performance athlete. I really don't think this will make a difference once you achieve a certain amount of activity in muscle mass. Then you might notice if you consume carbohydrates, and you're on a carnivore diet, and you notice a performance increase. I think you're at that threshold where your digestive enzymes cannot keep up with just the protein and fat diet. That. Yeah. That that actually makes a lot of sense. And I think you know, bodybuilding purposes, I think some people talk about like getting a pump. And a lot of bodybuilding coaches will say that's critical, you know, in in your training, and then from powerlifting perspective or strongman perspective. It's my belief that it's just important have body weight on you. So this may be against what most people are looking for most people are a lot of people are looking to get smaller or lose lose bodies. Yeah. Lose weight, but for a power lifter, or for strongman athlete or even some MA athletes. It might be important for them to stay in a particular weight class..

"What a fine episode. We have of UFC unfiltered today. We have the great John Anik on the phone and matinee joke around and talk about the fight. It's a delightful afternoon. Charles are this away. The nobody is sitting chasing that. He's. This is you have see on filtered. And now your host, Jim Norton and bad, Sarah. Welcome to a fine. Hopefully, find possession of is if we recorded might suck. And I think every episode pretty fine episode. We have our pal Jon Anik calling in who is just signed a four-year deal. He's one of the final. Joe and Paul filter this time because DC was apparently unavailable to do this week at the guards are unprofessional. Boy, I'm chewing on a cashew butter. That's fine. Our week was that done to a half hour week. Jimmy, jimmy. I shouldn't have bit that you enjoy. Also, I'll I'll say I went with my radio partner. Sam I asked for tickets, and they Dana once again comes through puts us in the second row right behind Cormie family. They seem like very nice people and two seats behind me. There was a real celebrity. I guess he's a big UFC fan. We should have him on this show who's apparently action Bronson. She was the hottest girl. He was at the hottest girl in the arena. No, I'm not, okay. He's he's better than action Bronson better than Browns. He'd better than action movies all on my back. Had beautiful wife. I was so happy. Here's a gorgeous white deserves it. He's a hero. And he deserves knock out of a wife. Who Robert O'Neill? Ono who does that Robert odeal does crickets are play that again? This is not right. Yeah. Play the crickets again..

We can do something you do. You think John Anik would be up for a wage. What is this? You speak of. I pick a team and there's the risk. In the vet work for Jon Anik and goes. Tattoo she. I don't know. I don't know that I can offer any services that he would even want. Just signed a contract. I'm onto him. That's when I win the mega millions tonight. Even things out. All right. Well, if you think of anything will pitch it to them. Like I said, I, I don't think John will back down from one I think, goes game as well. Joining us now on the hotline is the UFC had play by play announcer recently inked a four fight contract. Jon Anik, what's up John, how you doing. I'm always good and always going to be with you guys. Thankfully, it's four years enough for fights because I don't think I would fare too well. Sorry for years, you imagine, can you imagine the list of would be lining up to punch me in the fucking mouth. My games thrown off because the wheels are turning. I'm trying to think of a bet between you and goes, goes, the dodgers fan, your Red Sox fan game once tonight. So I don't know. Well, at the wheels keep turning. And in the meantime, let us congratulate you man for that contract well-deserved. Well, I appreciate that. You know, I will say as far as the Red Sox from the dodgers are concerned, my excitement is through the roof. You know, I'm glad it's LA. My prediction is dodgers and seven, but as a lifelong Massachusetts guy, I'm certainly hoping it ends up going the other way. We'll figure out a bet though. Afterwards, Jimmy Smith, I think that bet with me like I gotta have the LA dodgers logo as my Twitter picture for like a week or ten days if the dodgers win it and he'll go with the Boston be if the Red Sox get it done. But yeah, as long as we're not doing jujitsu matches goes or tattoos, I think I'm pretty much down for anything, but thank you George, either one of us. Yeah, right. But no, thanks, George. It's it's exciting. Obviously, and I think anytime you go into negotiation, there's some trepidation and you have a lot of different thoughts going through your head. You know today value me today still want me. Do I still want to, you know, devote my life to this. And then I think you know, you allow some other thoughts to creep in with other sports and other things. But when it when it came down to it, I mean, I I wanted to to be with the UFC for twenty five thirty years. I wanted this to be what I did with my life, and that's why I left the SPN in two thousand eleven and onward and upward man. Thankfully, they're giving me a longer leash and an opportunity to continue to prove myself beginning November third in New York. John, did you represent yourself or do you ever presentation? I haven't Asian. I do. What's the worst thing he could came back to you and said, like something along the lines of he said, take it or leave it? Well, I think just that they wouldn't be interested right? Because I think sometimes in business or in the corporate world, you don't really know where you stand until your contract is up and that's kind of the cold, hard truth. I mean, oftentimes after a pay per view, broadcast, no news is good news, right? If I don't have a tax from Zach candied or Craig Borzoi with a message from one of them from Dana. That's a good thing, right? So sometimes you don't know exactly where you stand until it's time to negotiate, but I think they knew that that I need them and maybe vice versa. And thankfully we're able to make it happen for another four. Before, have you actually? Well, I mean, there's things and they don't do it during the show. I mean, obviously they all have a talk. I have a talk back and they can talk in my ear and do for most of the show as you guys well know. But no. I mean, there are certainly times where you know, hey, I didn't think it was a great show or you could have done better with this more often than not the tax more often than not..

"'cause there's parts of it goes where unlike solid brother, you know, the raw, Steve reminds me of the MGM when he head on and couldn't have back on and went out there and gave some praise. But yeah, exactly. Like there's a couple tidbits in there where you're like, oh, you're bordering on an excuse or offering an excuse and either just do what you've done. 'cause you're such a, you're still the sport's biggest star that you almost don't need that because you, you're just by saying he was the better man, and I'll be back. Good. When you start getting into pudding on your lenses of how around one wasn't as bad as people online, there was tuning. The damage wasn't there, but remember duration and dominance was. So there was some people bordering on a tiny, I, I don't wanna look at it as as you know, you thought maybe. One good score for you if it was more of a sport, like you said, I appreciate that he reached out. I appreciate that he that he did break it down, but when people get into that argument of what's for and what's fight, you have to remember to there was a bell that sounded where they told guy to get off of you and stop beating you up. So I mean, can't really do that. That argument of it's also a fight while you're also have referee there. That's saving. Shot Evans used to say, you know, like I knew there's a referee, wasn't there. I'd be dead, you know, like teeter? Yeah, that's right. Ali that card on Dominick Cruz. Your is said the same thing had I think it was her now pulled me off. You'd be dead because crews would tell them, you know, whatever he tells them, but you're riot said, hey, I let you live. Remember told me and I was like, hey, that's not a bad line. There's a point took out of it, and I think he guys make some great points about Carson. I mean, I think this is the part of Connor that we all like, right. I mean some of this provider and brashness over the years. It started to kinda wear thin on me. It's just a little too much, but this is the side of Connor that we all love is the fact that he really can reflect, it'd be honest, you're right. He did go a little close, you know, hey, it's the same thing in the Mayweather fight that drove me crazy when he was like, I got to his back three times, whatever. Like, what does that have to do with boxing, like what are you talking about? But the one that's the one one small line stuck out to me in this. Listen to nobody, but yourself on your skill set. I'm curious, do exactly where he's directed at because I like one thing. I really like what he said in an Cavanaugh said the same thing. With Rogan is about how they were to defense minded, and I think that's understandable and gets a b. I mean, you think about his offense of wrestling dominated as you're thinking about how to defend that. But if all you're thinking about is how to defend it, then you're actually making his job easier because you're you're, you're backing up and giving those opportunities in waiting to defend. So I, I liked that, but the listen to nobody, but yourself on the skill set I'm curious with that is, is that is that addressing us? Is that addressing critics? Is that addressing people internally, you know, we'd heard on fight night the same thing that Jon Anik has come forward with publicly that you know, his coaches didn't wrap his hands that night. And that's normally the case. Was there some kind of turmoil? Was there some kind of is he talking about people within his own camp that he that he listened to that he shouldn't have that that one stood out to me is something I'm a little bit curious. Is there a deeper meaning to that? I haven't read it. I haven't read the whole thing yet. Admittedly, I think it's a smart move for him to get out and do whether you're being political about it, or you know what I like to see what joy that genuine side. But as far as that line, what you're saying. My initial digestion of it is that sounds like a self psychology. You're projecting our, but you're really talking to yourself, but, but to your point, we're hearing more and more talk about that..

"If I didn't hope to eventually ascend into the number one seat and you know, try to be the lead voice of the sport that I care deeply about, but I'll tell you, man with three kids. It's like reality hits hard. You know, I hit the Red Eye last night. I come home and it's just like in your face. And obviously I love them dearly, but there's just not a lot of time to, you know, think about what happened when you get back to to the reality of my life and what it is right now with, you know, three kids under seven God help me. But no, it's been great. And you know, I know there are a lot of people close to me in my life who thought I made some bad decisions. You know whether it was taking out a loan to go back to school for broadcasting or leaving ESPN for sport, you know, that didn't have necessarily great domestic TV future, but you know a lot of it's been right place right time learning from people like you and I just wanna say for your audience and I know you think I give you this ego stroke. But like I watched ryen russillo work for years, and I was like the, I can't do daily radio. 'cause I can't compete with this guy, not just the knowledge, the work ethic. I've never seen anything like it. You know you're the hardest worker in the room. You're Kobe Bryant. You've always been that guy and you know, it's kind of nice to see you get some credit for for that output and everything else. My man. So. Chop up the UFC. "Thanks so I opened up the pod just kind of giving my thoughts you. Jon Anik, the voice of the two Twenty-nine. The aftermath of this whole thing. You're sitting there with Joe Rogan Dom, right? And you know, listening all night. There's, you know how much I love love this whole thing and and think you are. So now that you've had just kind of like a day or two to think about this and we don't even want to start with the fight, but just everything. Like give me your perspective sitting there ringside. Well, it has changed as we sit here Monday as opposed to Saturday night when I bought walked back to my hotel room, not feeling super good about things. But I guess my thesis statement is that this thing could have been a whole lot worse, and I worked for the UFC for seven years and steadily or UFC security team has been beefed up. Certainly the Dalai throwing incident in April resulted in an increased security presence. You know t mobile arena security, obviously. And the Las Vegas police department prevented this from being just a massive ordeal. I mean, we've seen in boxing and other sports, personal injury and other things and bottles being thrown. And I know there was one usher that maybe should have corral could be. But other than that, I thought the police and the security presence really did a good job at making sure that this thing didn't spiral any worse out of control than it already was. So as somebody that's been around Connor, I remember you as far as I've known you. Time. Now I remember that and you're like, you gotta see this guy Connor fight, and it was wasn't just as ability. It was. It was the personality, the showmanship of it all. And we've both for those that don't know John and I work back in Boston a long time ago, we used to go to Vegas for fights. He started in boxing, and that transition over the UFC and is just different. I mean, it's just a different world out there..
