"I sit down with fourth and fifth generation. Mosque scott's dr harvey mascot and zack moss got there the ceo and chief design officer of moscow. Eyewear and i care. Which is the new york institution for more than one hundred years. I wanted to ask them about the company's secret to on jeopardy including how it's fared during the pandemic and why continuing to invest in physical retail has made fence a welcome to you harvey. Good day thanks for having me your highs at also nice to meet you. Yeah nice to meet you as well. So fourth and fifth generation i mean. Was there ever any doubt that you'd be joining the family business. Let's start with us that it's funny. When i was a little boy always had a reluctance to joining the family business. And as i got older. And i saw the business evolve Always had a passion for product design and the relationship between products and objects. And there's this great opportunity as harvey's was growing expanding. The business to develop the brand and develop the product lines in the creative. And i saw this opportunity transition the business into the digital realm as well so as i got older and went to study product design at the university of michigan. I realized it was my opportunity to join the business. Not as an optician or an eye doctor but instead is a designer and that was my segue into the family business and that was how i joined right on. How about you harvey you were you. Were studying up for this. Yeah well. I genuinely liked to help. People and helping people with their vision was always intriguing. And the new angle for entering moss. Scott as the first communist and background in health care and getting a dr thomas degree love play my guitar and being banned. But i couldn't sing. So i had to figure out something else to find another path that merged a lot of my interests and this was a great
Merkel's Bloc Spars Over Who Will Run for German Chancellor
"Good after from somewhat soggy. Very not sunny zurich the two leaders of the parties that make angle miracles. Conservative lines in germany have now put themselves forward to replace her. Frau merkel will stand down at september's election with the various premier. Marcus suitor and arm allow shut. The recently elected leader of the cd the christian democrats vying to fill her big loafer as well. Let's get the latest on this now from quentin peel and associate fellow at the your program at chatham house quinton also spent a few years at the f. t. as many of you know he was the man in berlin And of course has met mr lash attack from time to time. Good afternoon quentin good afternoon. Let's maybe start with a bit of a snapshot you've spent some time with mr lasted i've been in the company of mr Suitor before Maybe let's compare notes. Because the last time i was In munich at large event it was the unveiling of Of an a three fifty tons of course Airbus very much invested in bavaria. And there was mr at the center of things and really quite a quite a force Commanding the room Very much that the character that we've seen on On television probably of of late may be but look back a few years clinton maybe even a little bit more bolshie and boisterous but someone who certainly had command and presence How is this going to square when we think about Mister mister lash. Well they are a bit of a contrast rally because lash. it doesn't come over with quite the same self-confidence he seems more hesitant a little more ambiguous. He's not a what marcus urda is. He's not a real conservative. He's much more a centrist in the party. He's much more. The person who would still be a chance salah like angela merkel somebody who tries to bring the different factions together.
Volkswagen's Name Change Joke Didn't Land
"From brown and business wars daily on this monday april twelfth. Happy started the week. Everyone you know. Who's been having a tough april volkswagen matsue and as you may have that's mostly because they started the month with an april fools joke that fell flatter than a busted tire is started in the last days of march when the automaker quote accidentally unquote released a very serious sounding statement announcing that they'd be changing their name to volts wagon that's volts as in electricity. Now volkswagen's id for is the company's only electric model in the us market so far but the company is planning to build more and said that all future electric models would come emblazoned with their new name volts wagon now in eighty-three rolled company. Suddenly changing. Its moniker is suspicious right. But the name change announcement was so deadpan that it got picked up by the likes of cnbc. The bbc and the verge and all that publicity had an impact on the company's stocks. Volkswagen stock prices rose nearly five percent on the day the statement was released the ap reported but only hours later. A company spokesman confirmed that the name change was an early april. Fool's joke a joke. I should say that didn't quite land sea. Volkswagen isn't exactly held up as a model of corporate transparency. You may remember that in two thousand fifteen. The company installed deceptive software in its vehicles to cheat on government emissions tests that move launched a five-year fiasco. That cost volkswagen thirty. Five billion dollars led to the recall of millions of vehicles so volkswagen's been trying to dust off. Its image since then which makes this joke. Well puzzling to say the least and the us securities and exchange commission doesn't seem to have that much of a sense of humor. Manipulating the stock market is of course illegal. An even though it's not certain that manipulation was the intent behind volkswagen statement. The joke certainly swelled stock prices which could bring regulators knocking. But there's another automaker who's been there done that and is thriving that would be tesla which has in the past straight up to see the public in two thousand eighteen founder elon. Musk tweeted that. He had the funding to take tesla. Private stock prices surged ten percent. But it was later revealed that actually there was no such funding. Musket has company each over twenty million dollars in penalties to the sec. But today it seems like things are working out for tesla their social media the spotlight and their electric models are in last month. Wall street journal columnist dan. Neil took volkswagen the new. Id four for a spin and said tesla has nothing to worry about the id. Four is five years behind the comparable tesla you'll wrote and the engineering betrays a premature rush to market harsh words for volkswagen. Which of course has been angling of late to compete directly with tesla. Both automakers plan to open new european factories for their electric vehicles and volkswagen group
The CARES Act Could Help Tackle Nation's $1.7 Trillion Student Debt
"Is reporting Americans are on the hook for more than $1.7 trillion in student debt, But some of the government stimulus aid does present a new angle for tackling that problem. According to money Wise, the cares Act allowed employers to voluntarily pay up to $5250 Oven Employees College loan during 2020 here, both employers and workers were able to avoid paying federal payroll taxes on that money. And as former Iris agent Carla Thompson explains, That option can also be used moving forward now that's extended for an additional five years. So if you have an employer who wants to pay your student loans for you, they can actually get a deduction for that, which is different than in years before. Now, while student debt will likely remain daunting for million's one possible upside here is that very low interest rates could mean opportunities to secure more favorable loans and save money in the long run. EVs & Infrastructure - Katie Sloan, Southern California Edison
"Drivers do percents of their charging. That's eight zero percent of their charging at home. There are over twenty two thousand charging stations on over sixty six thousand chargers across the united states and counting with more being installed every day. The new electric vehicles have a healthy amount of battery range. Some as much as three hundred fifty miles as i recall and the cars. Frankly are very very cool. I was at the dc. Auto show recently took a ride with a race car driver in an electric volvo sports car. That was way cool. There are electric and hybrid. Suv sedans sports cars et cetera. So what is holding it up. I'd like you to meet a woman who we hope can answer some of these questions kate. Sloan is the director of mobility at southern california edison. I met katie a few months ago at an electric drive transportation association forum. And i knew i had to have you meet her. Katie has been at southern california edison for about seventeen years if i read that right in her linked in profile and his knee deep electric vehicles. She earned her degrees in economics. Which is an interesting angle to approach this from both at her graduate undergraduate and master's degrees from new mexico state university welcome to green connections radio. Katie and thank you so much for joining us. Thank you john. I'm excited to be here. Oh you're welcome you're welcome so you focus on removing the barriers to electric vehicle adoption which assumes there's a big market for these vehicles but since most of us are not even be owners. What's your pitch to own one. That's a great question to start with. And i would say that. Electric vehicles are funded. Drive that is the number one reason that people should be thinking about purchasing them love to share a little story about my own personal experience and that is that my husband has always driven really large. Suv's and trucks his whole life and when we went car shopping a few years ago and we started looking at electric vehicles. I have to say that he was like probably the majority of folks saying that he was not very excited about purchasing an electric vehicle so much so that when we went to test drive one of the cars he refused to sit in the front seat and actually sat in the back with his arms folded
Does Aaron Rodgers Want to Be the Permanent Host of 'Jeopardy!'?
"Course, is the reigning M v P of the NFL, a Green Bay Packer and we should note a former winner of celebrity jeopardy. He's hosting this week and next. As the quiz show looks for a successor for the late Alex Trebek. Erin was great to keep prepared so intensely. That it was really a joy to watch. Mike Richards is the executive producer of Jeopardy. Fans will recall. He also guest hosted the program recently. And although they could be angling for the same job, Richard says there was no sense of competition potentially on the golf course There might be some competition. But you know my job is to make everyone who comes onto that set. As great as they can be, he says. You'll see Aaron Rodgers get better during his guest run. The quarterback already showed Grace under pressure when a contestant took the chance to poke fun at the Packers strategy in the NFC Championship game, Scott You come up the correct response who wanted to kick that field goal That is a great question should be should be correct. But unfortunately for this game today, that's incorrect. Well, the competition is intensifying because this week the actor Levar Burton of Star Trek and reading Rainbow. And roots, among other things, said he wants to host jeopardy to Mike Richards would not say whether burden is on the list, but did confirm they've talked
Coming out SOBER With Mark A. Turnipseed
"I'm so excited to introduce our guest to you today. This is going to be a good one and this is actually an angle. I've wanted to tackle on this podcast for a while. So i was really grateful when mark reached out to me and was interested in coming on. I am not going to try to introduce him myself. Because you know. I will butcher it. So let me say mark. Thank you so much for joining us today and coming on the show with me. Why don't you take a minute and let everybody know who you are in a little bit about you. Thank you angela. And i appreciate you having me on. my name is mark turnip. Everybody and i am the recent author of my suicide race winning over the trauma of addiction recovery and coming out basically that book tells my story of recovery and my childhood and oeste maids coming out. I did so through this process of going to do a ironman triathlon so over the course of three years i trained for an ironman triathlon. After a series of relapses and throughout that process my story get more fruitful and there began to be more things that i could share with other people so i started blogging about it and then people were like you need to turn us into book so then i started writing into book while all this introspection all this work which is similar. Most people do this in recovery alone. But i wasn't. I like recovery alone. Didn't actually pull me into it that much and so actually engaging with an audience in the blogging. i've got to do a whole bunch of introspection. By the end of me writing the book. I realized that i had to confront my final biggest fear that had been holding me back and causing me to relapse over and over and over again and that was to finally embrace my sexuality and who i was since i was six years old and who i had been denying that my whole life basically.
Police lieutenant testifies Chauvin did not use authorized neck restraint
"Testimony on police training at the murder trial of a former Minneapolis officer in the death of George Floyd, Fox's Jeff Man. Also has this live Lisa jurors any Derek Murder trial heard from Minneapolis police officers who trained and use of force and de escalation techniques, including Lieutenant Johnny Mursal, who reiterated police chief material. Caradon does testimony, Sir. Is this an MPD trained neck restraint? No, sir. Has never been not to my neck restraint, though, from the same image that when seen from another angle chief. Arredondo also told jurors Monday that it appeared showman's knee was on George Floyd's shoulder blade and not his neck. The defense argues that the former officer did exactly what he was trained to do. Lisa Thanks
Microsoft Signs Deal To Outfit US Army With AR Headsets
"Essentially this. This broke yesterday. And what i called. It was the biggest news in the history of the ar industry which is not saying much since the air industry is relatively young but this is like a big bang moment because in one deal in industry can be validated and so the headlines would be microsoft Signed a contract with the pentagon to create one hundred and twenty thousand custom hollow lens. A our headsets for the us army and that deal could be worth as much as twenty one point eight billion dollars over ten years. The point that i made on the show was think of all of those moon. Shots that google has been investing in and this is not me being snarky in one fell swoop. Microsoft has essentially completely earned. Its money back from a moonshot that no one was paying attention to were. But this is a hardware moonshot. This is essentially if people have been thinking about a. r. n. vr as the next big thing to the tune of twenty billion dollars. Microsoft is like this is by the way a thing now so I this follows. Of course the the deals that microsoft has done with the pentagon in terms of their cloud computing stuff. But i'm saying and compared to the moon shots of google and comparing it to what amazon has done with aws and all the sudden amazon out of left field. Or i'm sorry. Microsoft out of left field has this whole pentagon arm of its business that depending on how you term it in terms of years something is worth thirty billion dollars so dialing back from the pentagon angle of it. It's just the idea that out of nowhere. The ar vr space in my opinion has suddenly been validated.

"Day for the Derrick Show over murder trial has resumed and on the stand right now, on this fourth day of witness testimony, the girlfriend of George Floyd, who is breaking down in tears right now, Again, Derek shove in the former Minneapolis police officer on trial for the death of George Floyd, the girlfriend on the stand fighting back tears We get more from ABC is Mark. It's taken on them. Defense has yet to lay out its
How Will Biden's Infrastructure Plan Stocks Affect the Stock Market?
"Reality headsets for the U. S. Army fell apart the board so because there's a story we can't get away from, And that is Joe Biden's 2.25 Trillion Infrastructure spending plan on a big focus of that is climate link Stocks. Look at the Raymond James No out about 630 Billion of the 2.25 Trillion is all climate related and big part. That's a TV story. No wonder then that we saw Tesler up 5%. Of course, you just said end of the call. What a year. Today test is one of the laggards so far, but it's clawed back some of those losses in a single day, some other movies in the evil space there for about the boards because a big part of that plan is 500,000 public charging stations throughout the U. S So again, no wonder look at the performance on the day by some of the biggest names of publicly traded charging companies charge point up almost 19%. There is a broader energy story to this Joe Biden wanting to double down on renewable sources of energy, but also energy story, too. If we flip up the board One more time. You can see that the love was felt throughout those publicly traded providers of renewable energy alternative energy storage systems. One final area when I look at if we flip up the boards for a final time is $100 billion committed to spent being spent on Rural broadband, basically giving people access to Internet. This is something Emily you've discussed in the show a lot there in society. A lot of the disparity is caused by lack of training and lack of access to Internet and you can see actually, what's interesting. A lot of the telecoms provider is not that much higher T Mobile hired by 5/10 of 1%, There is a five G angle. This is well on T Mobile's been a surprise leader. The five G's space. But why's on Joe Biden and how he's going to spend that big
Derek Chauvin ‘betrayed his badge’, prosecutors argue
"Former minneapolis. Police officer derek. Chauvin betrayed his badge by grinding his knee. Into george floyd neck during a deadly arrest last may a prosecutor said on monday at a murder trial that is widely seen as a test of the us justice system show. Wtn's lawyers responded by saying that the former officer was simply following training from his nineteen years on the force even as they acknowledged that the arrest caught in videos from multiple angles was distressing to watch. The use of force is not attractive but it is a necessary component of policing show. Wtn's lead lawyer said in his opening statement referring to the videos that show floyd a forty six year old handcuffed black man pleading for his life. The footage sparked worldwide protests against police brutality but in his opening arguments jerry blackwell a prosecutor with the minnesota attorney. General's office told the racially diverse jury. That officers who wear the minneapolis police badge. Pledge never to use unnecessary force over. You will learn that on may twenty fifth. Mr derek. chauvin betrayed this badge when he used excessive and unreasonable force. Upon the body of george floyd said blackwell aiming for a red conviction of a us police officer for killing a civilian chauvin and three other officers trying to arrest floyd on suspicion of using a counterfeit twenty dollar bill to buy cigarettes a misdemeanor. That prosecutors said could have been handled with a summons to appear in court. Instead of an arrest forty-five-year-old chauvin has pleaded not guilty to degree murder third degree murder and second degree manslaughter. He faces up to forty years in prison if convicted on the most serious
Lil Nas X releases "Satan" Nikes containing real human blood
"So Luna's X had an eventful week and he dropped this song called Montero Comey by your name along with this Really crazy video. He's like seducing Satan with a lap dance, and then he snapped his neck and takes his horns. Well, he's teaming up to create a line of Nike Air Max 90 seven's and they've been called Satan's shoes because they have satanic imagery and Okay, it says they supposedly contain a drop of human blood like it's just a drop this mixed with the ink to color them so like they're the color of blood, but it just start up a lot of controversy. It's so Nike came out to say that they have no idea what this is even all about. They said. They said we don't have. We don't have a relationship with Lana. Zac's They We did not design or we're not releasing them. We do not endorse these. So I don't know what what? Yeah. Mike McGee, Nikes part would be like We have no idea what you're talking about, or where these things came from, because there's so many angles here that could offend people, you know, not just the whole, you know, blood in the shooting, but you know the Satan
Serbia vs. Portugal: Ronaldo Robbed Of Game-Winner
"Kick things off by focusing on serbia's two two draw against portugal political tuna at halftime. So getting back to two two but the big talking point cray was late f- from cristiano renaldo and doubts whether or not a date cross the line. It wasn't given echo furious. Serbia had just ten men with half sent off but really it was neither here nor there. A minute left. And the extra time as you said long diagonal ball. Over the top of the defendant. The at the angle was not keeper. Really pulled decision to komo judger and rinaldo from manado really. Not a language said took it for time. Lick good ball was traveling over the line. In one of the seven defenders. Go back to hook it. No at dead on the face of a look over up just in a couple of sales on twitter and when is twitter ever wrong just in unless the angles are wrong from the pictures at the whole ball was probably over and of course. You've got goal. Line technology el al ticket to melanie as the ball. Hovering over the light will not be given for deadlock just managed to meander over but cost. Don't have this technology and we're talking about world cup. Qualifiers here in the technology has been around for a good couple of years. Now at least until now have an qualifiers all beat when you argument. Well the cut off gibraltar. Walk marina or wherever. I sorry that just doesn't cut it because it's too
A Review Of The New OnePlus 9 Phone
"Okay so One plus announced the phones. This week they've been teasing these for a long time. I mean one plus the king of not spending a dollar on advertising and just using the power of their voice on the internet to To let you know about everything so the one nine series is the oneplus nine. The oneplus nine pro. You guys know that For for prices we have seven twenty nine starting price for the oneplus nine and then it tops out at eight twenty nine hundred bucks more That gets you eight gig ram and one hundred twenty gigs storage at seven twenty nine and then for another hundred bucks you could ask for more gig rams so twelve gram double the storage certificate six for the nine pro. Which is this guy starts at nine sixty nine. And that's also the eight gig one twenty eight gig combo and then this model i actually have is fully specked out so another hundred bucks which takes us over the thousand dollar price point to one thousand sixty nine twelve gig to fifty six storage. It's kind of what they've done for a couple years so it makes sense but we are at another increase the The eight pro last year started eight ninety nine and then topped out. I think right at ninety nine ninety nine I can't remember offhand with the eight price. Was the april five ninety nine. Six hundred ninety six ninety nine seven ninety nine have been six nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine. Yeah because we're up to seventy nine so kind of a thirty dollar increase in a seventy dollar look. They packed a lot of specs. And we'll get to that so anyway if you want the top of the line one plus nine pro we are whoa well over a thousand but were over thousand bucks now so were ridiculous as far as specs go you know oneplus. Didn't really hold back. They kind of gave us everything and everything you would expect from a modern phone. You know they they haven't done headphone jacks for awhile. And s d cards i. I don't know that they've ever really done those in there. Really cheap phone so i. I'm not gonna waste time complaining about those. But they added the newest of the new. Obviously the cameras going to be a big focus with the with the hassle blah partnership But like this nine pro has hd one hundred twenty hertz. tim's lower lesser of a phone much Ten eighty p but also still hundred twenty hertz. They both have staff in eight eighty eight. I talked about the ram and storage configurations On the camera this has a quad camera. Yours has triple camera. Believe so the big thing. There is the hospital vlade partnership so. This camera is the sony. I m x seven eight nine. Which most people doesn't mean anything. But it's just sort of the newest sony sensor. They said they they developed it in custom with with sony. And so you've got that. And then it has a fifty megapixel wide angle lens.
OnePlus 9 Pro Phone Review
"So there was some big Hardware news today. Maybe you heard of it. If you're fans of one plus then you probably saw that the company held a livestream this morning and then shortly after the embargoes lifted and reviews were aplenty the oneplus nine and the oneplus nine pro wrong article okay. Plus nine won't buzz nine pro on house this morning. That's does because i didn't put an article in there burks. Donald the worry about him Were announced this morning. You don't need to put an article in there. Because i have them there they are. That's right this right. Here is one plus nine in. I think they call it a matte. Black does a color. Although it's not very mad i was gonna ask. Does it have did you. Keep the protector on there. Because it looks real shiny to me is look mad at all. No it's not matt actually. It's very very shiny in fact both of these are very very shiny. So that's the nine and then a slightly larger nine pro like super glass. You know what i mean. It's like error basically But it's got a got a little kind of like haziness up the top that gets to completely cleared out the bottom but You know. I colors What's the other one is like a do. They call it an arctic green or something like that. I can't remember the name of the third color but it's kind of more similar to here. Hold on. I think i have a more similar to the oneplus. Eight pro this. I would call matt right like this is kind of like a hazy sort of not glassy reflective thing but just really disappointed by. I'm sorry i. I don't mean to be hard to please but i'm disappointed by the black and silver of it all like what is this is like some sort of ball where i'm like put on a fancy gown only wear like black or silver. Are i mean you still. You still have your color options. Vic the oneplus maper wave like whereas the vapor way. Where's the beautiful -til back sometimes. Save these things for later. You know how oneplus roles they come out with their colors in there and then a little bit later they come out with their special edition. Vapor waves now. They did last year. I'm just saying sometimes they do Bites What you will notice with the oneplus nine nine pro. If you look hard enough. And i don't know that i've got this on auto focus so i'm just gonna keep right here but Basically this little branding in the camera bump which says hostile blog. I saying that right And so basically oneplus has a has a partnership with hossa blonde. The camera company. That is a highly respected. Although we should definitely point out the fact that hasselblad was also the big camera partnership that motorola had for a moto. Maude that did not actually take very good pictures. So the question was once we started hearing kind of the news about oneplus and blah. Having a partnership. Is this a branding play. Or is the cameras hardware actually amazing here which is definitely the focus. That really seems to be the focus. This time around the oneplus eight year. You may remember at least eight pro. it it did well improving upping oneplus game when it came to the camera and it looks like with the nine. They're looking to do the same thing here. I've had these phones For about a week and a half now although. I've only really used the nine pro with any regularity. I haven't like lived with the oneplus nine Camera hardware is very similar between the two. But i've i've leaned into the camera on the nine pro. I'm actually doing a comparison for hands on tack. That will go live tomorrow between shots on the eight pro and shots on the nine pro to kinda show. You did one. Plus actually upgrade here But know feel free and show some shots. Hokey stay on this one for a second because this one kind of bothers me. This is the main rear facing camera. I don't know that anyone else would notice this. Because you don't know my daughter and my wife the way i do but their heads look stretched totally noticed that actually. It looks like your daughter's flat look like cardboard out to that. This was done with main camera. This was not the winding lens. I'm used to seeing that kind of tearing that smearing on wide angle shots. But not the main and i realized what it is because this was like within. The first couple of days of having the camera was like okay. What is that if all of my main shots are going to do. This is going to bug the heck out of me and realize what it is the main lens does not have optical image stabilization. And so if you are even moving your hand the slightest when you take these shots you end up with really Erotic images and that. I see that as a big bummer. Because it actually did kind of rear. Its ugly head to me multiple times. Where i thought i was still but it wasn't quite still enough then. I looked at the shot later. I was like okay. That's just a little too blurry for my liking. The actually end up getting better shots out of the uae than you do with the main But yeah i mean. I mean considering that it's a wide right so you get that wide effect but the i just enjoy the shots from the live more than i do the main and a lot of the shots that i took those very dark outsize store. That's that's frustrating. It out the person who uses that you know it's going to distort the images. They take that they want us to. I'm sorry usa. The angle has the optical image civilization. Yeah yeah the wide has optical image stabilization to my understanding. The main does not at main absolutely does not and yeah so i got arenas on on really yellow. Yeah maybe maybe fact. Check that for me. While i walk through a few these eligible here but yeah i know for a fact. The main does not. I'm pretty pretty confident. The why does. But i could be wrong That shot that you were just looking at that. Was low light. Low light in the back yard near dr not quite dark and it was fine like lobe light performance on some of my shots were were fine. Nothing like screaming amazing. You know what i mean. you know again low light. I don't know. I feel like that could be better right by. I don't know This those two shots are interesting because one is the rear. This is the front facing and it shows you the differences in color balanced detection between the two cameras There's just i don't know like a time and time again as i'm kind of going through and taking pictures and comparing and everything it's like the images like i'm really curious to compare between the eight pro and the nine pro because i haven't actually done the side by sides yet for tomorrow's review. I'm doing that After the show actually. But i'm really interested to compare. Because like i'm kind of guessing guessing without comparing at this point that images are relatively similar between the two and if so then what is the hasselblad partnership actually mean

So now Sukhoi's yeah so so anyhow he's he's way cool so he went from BMX triple X.. Yes and all right so the video game right. There was triple eight triple X. thing I've ever run into Max was what's his boss. Orion comes out here for X.. Games back in the day ninety seven and we have we wrote the COM. Whatever and then we're out on the Gold Coast and he's freaking out coaling Maula going to gut four zero that even just triple X.? Giants crazy foreing. It's just on but he. He fell off the radar after that that mission Russia's still doing shows he's got his own team and doing stuff like this but anyhow you never know who you're GonNa meet ruler into BMX at one time that's some Shaquille O'Neal was a huge huge. Red Van do you know about that. Sorry no I wanna hear him on an ICANN's tucked crazy. Yes they they did. What was funny is at so so Mike Miranda and bill or not bill but Bart Conner? They went to this celebrity golf match and all these other celebrities read this golf tournament tournament. And things like that and they're on their their lunchtime right now and they're hanging out and there's all these people and all of a sudden Shaquille O'Neal walks in the room and he's just looking around because he can head and shoulders above the rest and he's just looking around and he sees Bart Conner and Mike ran a sit at the table. Saw and like the Guy mm-hmm Mike Miranda told the story he says it was like the sea split and Shaquille. O'Neal beeline over to Bart Conner and went over. Dude what do you were my favorite randy shakes his hand. Ju just lost it now. All right so a man so barn Bart goes to him and says I win six gold medals for the United States. And you remember me from rat. Now's the story so I worked on raising. I worked on a on on one of the movies with Shaquille O'Neal and and I wanted to hear from his literally asked him. He says one hundred percent love with that movie man also if you walked in and pushed like Miranda aside and said you're nothing next to Barton Taylor it well man I'm defining moments human being axed defining moments Johan on I don't know if there's any highlights. I mean everything was a highlight. Everything was new. Everything was awesome. Many of these models have that many to go. We know forgot one all right so I mean I I I was in magazines here in the US. I was in magazines in Europe. I was in magazines in in places in Japan and places like and there are some magazines. I don't even I know about but there was one magazine that I did get into in. It was called new. Look it's a Nudie magazine got right and so there's BMX in this full just full stripper magazine but they had bmx ended at one time because in France I guess it was just not that big a deal will be as big and and nude photos league and just blow vice magazine Rubik Fashion Mag back in the day in front of Mongo's student like no but that's a sick double page pick. I think it was the spark photo and it was made it now in fashion. And that's another thing like some of the guys from BMX. I mean Spike Joan. You know huge director now all right. So what notable didn't you do work and whether while things. Oh I did work with where the wild things were and also worked on being John Malkovich the F.. Yes ma'am right. Yeah forty three in that next references in movies at Ross. So they're all there but yes spike spike in and then he did. What birth of the big error and and judge? "You know that trick you did in the in the beginning of Rod where you've got one foot and you swing your leg and you wrap around us. He literally really from from the very beginning of the movie till the end of the guy he knows it back and forth he was all that was so cool so I had to on my wall and and I had a BMX team name and he had a BMX freestyle team. So Ed Helms was. BMX writer so anyhow and so we started talking. And I was explaining to him that we're trying to get the rights to the movie rat and this and that he remembers the movie and all this other stuff and he goes the. The Director of this movie knows IOS Talia. He goes to dinner or breakfast with Talia all the time so he gathered. I'm talking to the main one of the main actors and now he brings over the director and I'm just another stunt guy all the other guy going. What are they just another stunt guy? Just another song. I agree with that. So anyhow they he comes over and I'm telling him we're talking about the movie Rad on the movie the hangover you with panicles explaining how he he literally takes his phone. I'll tell you right now. She's a right right now So he's on the phone. I'm going to get the rights because it's not released. It's not really. It's not legally released so so so he calls her and there's no answer though and that's literally as far as it got set up right so I heard that she sold the rights to her son now. Her son owned it for like eighty five bucks so she literally sold it for whatever the paperwork for costing let's let's check in a couple hundred bucks eight. Yes right but the thing these guys so so anyhow she she got the movie rap. See that there you. He's seen it. That is that this. This is an original from the video rental store that mm-hmm not a lot of people know this. But if you couldn't buy that video you had to rent if you owned it is because you never returned it would not bird someone else's cod someone else's parents God and he borrowed and he doesn't take you never took it back but and then the the sticky type right and they've put a blank learning once you once you rented it You copied it or tried to or they Anyhow you have DVD. Now somebody pirated off. Yeah so so anyhow. That's a I got a shout out to Tim. Lynch ever heard that name on a Sydney's rattus nineties dude. Like me ramp shredder. He was his auditor where he got that from but he he gave it to me as a present for my for the for the store and yeah I'll never let your tape. I'll always be thankful but yet he's not going to back especially be a bill signed that when he was over the last night the other year said so often and I don't know how much time we have but there's another story about a nether bring it on so so I'm working now. I'm doing some stunt safety. I'm working in L. A.. I'm working on this this this this float that supposed to be in a music video and I have no idea who the artist is and I'm just working on this thing and I'm making it safe and I'm doing the rigging in things and and you know when we show up on the sets. Our names are on this list that everybody that's on the list is going to be on this thing and I don't know anybody's name name and I don't know who the artist was but then I'm working on this boat and I'm on my. I'm hammering down something and in back of me. This in English accent.

"Like I said I didn't know much much other than riding my bike and let I fall off my bike many times so that I knew how to fall and in a stunt business. If you don't if you have a second thought about doing it you shouldn't be doing shouldn't be right when somebody says okay. We're GonNa hit you at twenty twenty five miles an hour with a car. Great you second. Guess that you're GONNA get hurt. Yeah he wants to sign his. That's pretty much isn't right through at your head for that jump you do. How did did you revolve out of being a BMX? Doing stops on a bike into a slow progression to learning how to do stuff like you like the one on a bike. Like obviously fulling. When did you just have to someone to say? Hey learn how to this. And you've got the job or so And I went from being sponsored writing competitions being in the magazines to doing more and more TV commercials and because BMX is still big but then from BMX mountain biking became it so I started doing a lot of my. BMX tricks on a mountain bike. Still riding a bike still doing tricks just bigger bike so getting paid your coupling. I was about my thoughts on that. And that's a good transition as were they eh They paid me to to double a lot of the crew or the cast on. TV show called Pacific Blue and and they were riding mountain bikes and then they wanted us to do stuff that that normally you wouldn't be doing that we're doing jumping over COP. Cars landing on the other side and then doing three sixties fees and doing backflips was one of the very first person verse people to do a backflip on a full suspension mountain nights on a TV show so Doing things that they normally wouldn't wouldn't do. And then crashing into a hot dog carts in going downhill. You would normally do putting bombs on the back of armored trucks in writing behind blowing stuff up and things that we like. I said we didn't normally do but from there. Are you know I I would meet one stunt coordinator and the need another stunt coordinator and then they found out that I ride motorcycles. So I've done motorcycle stunts. And then from they're just evolves from here on and it's more money since blocks motorbikes cognisant necessarily more money but it's it's a consequence. It's a coincidence income consequences quences you know. And then then you know as I was learning a lot of the rigging aspects I was working alongside another another a couple of guys that were rigging and now he's learning through them And they had bought brought me to come on this job. Yep Yep bring me on two different jobs and I literally went to South Africa and worked on dust till dawn partout. Yeah and from there. I got thrown off a building landing car and you know exploding loading and catching on fire. People know that I used to be the smoothest dude. I shouldn't just eating the ground. And there's there's times where I got had hired onto a commercial just because so this kid blond hair blue eyes. Good Lookin' kid got cast. Ask for the part. He is a number one BMX Racer of the state. And this is what he did but he was like fourteen over X.. Six and they needed him to ride this bike and do a little back slap onto a swimming pool into the swimming pool. Water the whole nine and he says Oh. Yeah Yeah I can do this. I can do this well. This stunt coordinator knew who I was and he wasn't real sure who this kid was and he says well I'm just GonNa Hire Eddie just in case right just in case it's number one kid that says he can do everything can't do his whole life. He was racing his whole life if he learnt how to stay on two wheels he never once landed on his back slipped in as well no not then then so so anyhow The kid as he jumps into the swimming pool just kept on throwing his bike out in front of me because he because he's scared to land on his back but this is what they needed. And did you know where in a stunt aspect I know what they want and I know it's going to hurt a little bit. I know what they need. Eh done it before and and it's it's just a slap flap back land and you do it once. And hopefully they're happy a done deal so they hired me just in case and it happened to worked out for him because the kids don't do it so it goes I guess he's lucky you're in California a uh-huh good guild around protecting. Yes some people because in Australia in the use of sterling film industry nevels right if you look at the original Mad Max. I didn't block the roads up for anything right. People Got Stein a proper stance on streets in Sydney with not with no locking down event Ryan. I just broad daylight. Let's film it's different world out here right Yup right. I'm blaming expanded to America. It did make it to America and it actually made it onto you like let's say. Hbo It was on HBO. The first time I saw it and thought it was the greatest in Greece thing since sliced bread other than the movie. We Rat Nicole Kidman Yup McColl who vessel and national treasure right and it looked good. I mean the the doubling looked really good when she was on the track at the very end of the race. Yep It looked like she was riding around. It looked like her. I don't know if it was or not but Nahed wow dude as it did at the very end at the very end on the BMX track when they're singing about BMX raising and all his a song. The right the song these guys singing it you guys know the words being excellent. Yeah so so anyhow. Aw Yeah it was good movie good movie I actually liked it. It had better plot and chases and shotguns in moss point break ripped off right right so and we just literally just got back from that the oval where they ride Danley yes If ended never caught going on did no I. It's been yelled at me as a kid. It was yelled at me out of any car. The joy pause or run flat jumping occur rodney drain it. What do you think you are being expanded? Yoda in my whole life and I. It just killed me but in the last few years someone yells at media tickets atone youth. I don't care anymore. I've got the Fountain of Youth Kit. Rodney I tell people that this is my fountain of Youth Riding my bike. It's Kinda like the movie tag back right where you see the movie tag where you stop playing the game you get ever. Yeah right but if you keep writing then you're gonNA stay young. This is Dr Fountain of Youth. You're you're using your hands or feet. You're you're thinking of where you're going what you're doing. You're using every muscle in your body. You know unless you're eating too much then yes I'm looking we're thinking about or drinking too much fifty fifty five okay I i. I like my food to eat. Well I think about when I first started racing which was twenty something years ago. My Dad was about fifty fifty five five and I. I actually thought about this back then because they want the guy ran the club's constantly Obama Club the God ran the club's name is Ian Code us and and he was mid forties erode cruiser. And then my dad who's about you know five ten years older than this guy in a look at my dad who accomplished racing driver rice Historic Sports Causes Suffolk that also the seventies and eighties but looked at him. I looked at the track and I thought my fifty fifty something year old dad. There's no way inhale he could get around this track and I actually go to like worried thinking that picture in my brain of Muhdad going down the hill in like I was like no. I don't WanNa think about that but you know what a fifty something year old looks like. Nowadays I mean you think about you or Dennis McCoy still hot nine eight hundred a veteran and lucky you because you landed on a squash. I he was trying to take a photo of Ben pig. WHO's one of the best That skate park and he climbed into the ball without announcing it and he has a short dude. Right you're scratching down the base of the spine and trying to get a photo of Ben do who like an alley both like the channel and dropping jump the spine and I'm at the peak described Dennis and I just flat into his back. I was Mojo than a was thinking election. I've just ended this McCoy's career addresses scary but he's tough but like you said and we think about it. I I thought about it when I was eighteen. Nineteen twenty years old when I thought of a fifty year old. I think this guy has got to be you know fifty Walker wheelchair or cane. There's no way way. Am I going to be able to ride. When I'm fifty and people told us that you never going to do anything? If you have to authorize these broken bones and crashing shut up. I think I quit because of writing. We don't have Kazak. No key word. The Rolling Stone gathers no moss right. So you tape Richard Right. Richard doesn't gather any moss right. He still aw Zaka. East went off stopping. He's got different fan of youth. Bevan maybe box in the background right. He is yeah shredding. And there's there's people who who you never know that were that was into BMX that it was one of the movies that I worked on was From the hangover okay. Do you know this story. What go to Vegas so right? No no no so so I get hired on as a stunt guy and my job is literally to just get out of the way of the COP car. That's on the sidewalk right. So it's a scene that I'm supposed was to do. And they fly to Vegas and I'm there with a bunch of other. stunk is just all stunt guys to get out of the way. It's supposed to be a near Miss of a twenty five mile an hour. Uh Car that twenty five mile. An hour car got changed to a two mile an hour car so now they're just driving on the sidewalk. Well and just another stunt guy I get there on the set and the P. A.. The production assistant comes up to means wardrobes. Here make-up's there Do you ride bikes or something at all. Yeah I ride a little bit. She goes as well. One of our one of our actors is a huge fan of yours. WHO's really who? Who would that be? She goes Ed Helms and at this point in time I didn't know who Ed Helms was but then found out who he is in the office and all these other movies that he's really good and and and So anyhow I I didn't think anything of it I'm on the set. I'm hanging out with all the other stunt guys. They do the scene three or four times. They have to put film in the camera because they still use this station film so good or they had to put a new battery. What are you anyhow? They had to stop and they had to let the actors out. and Ed Helms is literally runs over towards me and he and he he goes..

"Uh but never made it so and I tell people you know the they've asked me. I've been around the world a couple of times and and I've been a lot of places where would you live as it. There's no place like California. No place like California. Well now that I've been to Australia east coast of Australia per year. Could definitely assume Larry's yes. Yes yeah yeah pretty much jump on a plane you know usually check out the water on duck. I get on a plane you end up you know Venice Santa Monica. The water joins the two countries. Cyprus Trees Brian Same TV signed free. Sells perfuse still to. Yes we're having with the double double Ben. I see that killed that box right so so yeah right. Yeah Ed was literally. There wasn't even my idea. So so the thing is that Martin did more flatland and and they wanted different bike. They wanted to upgrade. Had to do something different. You know like cars getting better and this and that so that when they did that that that s frame that was for literally more ground freestyle flatland tricks the stick your foot in between this section here so because with the performer. was a little bit tight. Yeah so I had my name. You know the performer and Martin had the SBN so you know and then you know gt stopped making the performance you know that the story the GT stop making the performer. For Awhile. So When I got out of it in a couple years back I decided to make a pro former yes pro former? I made it look like the performance but I was able to change the geometry. I made all all new school. I made it ride like a Colt. A fit a standard us. You know all the bikes that are out there today. That bike rides exact like they do except for it looks old school. Well I did two hundred and fifty of those and I got a letter from. Gt Caesar's assists really they. They said it nicely they said well. Hey if you're only going to do a short run and you're doing this and that we're okay with it but you're not gonNA make anymore right. Yeah Yeah I guess so anybody because work who who is around you know nothing about Durell Canadian company. Yeah so so oh so anyhow I got this letter saying that you know performer and pro former sound a lot alike looks a lot alike and this and that I you know. I'm one one of those guys that I walked right up to that line but I didn't cross it was close but I didn't cross but they have lawyers yes and I don't know so I stopped opt the pro former and I found another company to make my bike and we don't call it the pro former anymore. I cut my sticker in happen happen swapped aside so now it's a former pro excitement. Nothing not even close. Is that through. supercross that is through supercross. BMX Bill Ryan and he has helped one thousand percent and read so still rice a little bit. You see it blocks supercross on every game. They like they make Mike now stuff yes yeah. And then. When they went into the the carbon fiber I went to the FA- the not the factory but we're his warehouses and she goes all? You gotta see this new bike Kirk. Grab that box. I grabbed the box. And it's literally feels like an empty box calvin bike in there so I believe I mean if if you had had that technology back in the eighties Kaban of being on probably would have been wouldn't that there's I really think that you could have made a flat area. You could stand on you know edged out and molded perfect and didn't wait anything and strong and most sticks mostly graphics solid right across the board. Thanks all right. It's the one thing I think you know about. The scouting was artwork and graphics on box. I think box it ever got the the difference between bike riders skateboarders in. You might agree with me. Here is that you know with when you buy when you buy I skateboard and you're skating it for a long time and you break. It was like yeah I just did that ten seven. I broke the board built right and they go the by the exact same board and they do against her if you break a bike. I'm never buying that bike again next next company next company. Yeah Yeah I mean. y'All had my issues with some brand young someone. Someone cracking somewhat twisted. Yeah you know and you knew that and you wouldn't bought because of that right it's tough off isn't uh-huh and then you know we as as a professional writer writing for GT. We wore uniforms. Wanted to promote. And you know who is buying the bikes but the MOMS and the DADS ads. The kids didn't have any money. So the MOMS and DADS wanted to look at it professional writers. It's very and when we had these magazines everybody wore competition. You know I you. You could look across the street and see who I'm sponsored by you could and every bike look different. There was a huckster the skyway. There's there's a red line there's every bike. Look different. You you go to a competition today and everybody's wearing a black shirt black pants and there there. There's not one sticker on a bike near going. Would you know wonder if they're not making it. A zoom in. It'd be like what frame is that I mean not change me. Not Change from the uniforms and the organized comes into the whole street. Yeah that happened to me. It was funny when when we put this up it's good year and year and has got era right but then there's this this and that was the change that was we know who it is. It's Edi Rama any lives by my house so I know I took the I took the moonwalk from him. Gotcha really is was Eddie. Romans Moon in raw moonwalk and and he did it. I just did it. Yeah but just going back to like the the the image of the professional as you know talking about an advertising in the magazines and stuff like that and image being selling selling point I mean before I mean this ad behind you you know. We didn't invent freestyle weeds perfected it. Yeah and that that. That photo is all about attitude that you know. It's less about the DOC and more about US sitting there looking like just the man sure that was that was another thing that that a lot of the companies figured out is that not only. They may that they made bikes but they also made. I'm going to say superheroes. They made us into Super Heroes that We were the the icons of the sport and they did image ads right there. There's a couple of spots where my bike's not even in the shop. And there's you know oh my woody just hanging out. Not even writing was the adage at ad agencies involve there were some addy. He's at that it'd like. What is this This idea man you know and then yeah in who is in charge of that ad you know but but yet they I remember some guys saying can you know. Oh Hey you know. I used to ride a bike just like you and I was you know when we wrote our bikes I was Eddie fuel. And this other guy. He was like Josh White and we always competed against each other and I was gone this way and he go this way so we we were back than superhero. Yeah I mean the magazines defined it. We didn't know anything else about you other than the UN that big right you had those wheels. You know you what that Helmet uh-huh and and that was I guess when when your kid you to find yourself on that right. Hopefully later on magazine started doing interviews and we started more about the personality but even just find out a bit more about the rata. Yeah it's years until I read a ride. The Taj Malik interview and suddenly a personality was really pood- out hotter than just the riding right because we always knew everyone could not good. I think the story is now together. Sit and talk about the stories from the past. That is much bigger than just the riding. Align mm-hmm really brings a lot more to the table. And hopefully the kids will have that somehow right definitely I mean I think back to in the first time I read what's red and and I mean I was young. I didn't I just started saying magazines and I was ten years behind because the first magazines soul were around light easily nineties mid to lighten on his started saying magazines veins and I was like you know time watching all the all the stuff i. I'm so wraps I heard your name would like you all dudes in the start outline older guys and Hollywood Mike Miranda and going back to that shot of you on the startling qualifying rice of the Mohawk helmets and stuff like that. I'm research a single being like having no clue who you were keyed and be like that dude. Looks like a tough the best bad that God looks like he'd be the coolest one out there on the stop introducing guys decide the rice. The Hill Tracts. finale yeah and you just do the whatever like the kind of like you you and I was like that guy fucking rules like think about image and you know I guess reminds. CBS again. It wasn't around back in but you watch like don't Tennessee boys. In the talk about tiny Alva- released that ad zero. It was just standing there with his arms across the US. And it's just like you see that as a key like that rules that not a jump back back to to some of that dog. Town Z. Boys the difference between skateboarders and BMX writers skateboarders they would dog town Z. Boys had all this great great archives of them skating pools that you're not supposed to be skating in and doing things they weren't supposed to be doing because they had friends Who didn't escape but had cameras and you'll and everywhere they went they were able to bring these cameras or these people who didn't skate when we wrote BMX? We wrote a jump spot. Then we never cavalry. Nobody brought a camera with us. And nobody's GONNA take up. Take time out to take off. Take digit me. No the only it took a picture of you is your mom right and it was out in front of your house nets or if you're in a competition and somebody else had taken a photo while you're competing We don't have those really cool archives back in the day other than some of the old king of the skateboard competition so oh But I do know that. There's a couple of guys that did show up to a lot of these competitions with a big huge huge VHS on their shoulder that there are some archives out there somewhere. Yep because I've seen the cameras but it's normally somebody's dad that has Hasim so we just gotTa find those guys. Bring those out and put those up on Youtube. Everyone to see we'll talk and movies and video and over that going forward ride and you stunt doubling for Bill Allen. Yes you ended up in the movie business Fremont full-time. Yeah so I went from riding my bike and somebody paying me to ride my bike to somebody paying me to fall off my goodness now. It's and I figured out that. Not every movie has BMX. In and so and I had it right. I had to learn how to do other things so I had to start driving cars and riding motorcycles and driving boats and doing things and high falls and then I got into into learning the The rigging aspect of it so now I've been in it for the last twenty twenty five years and I've I have now working on the The rigging and designing of some stunt so what suffocates gonNA flip so so sometimes the the you know the degree angle of Aram or throwing somebody out of a helicopter guy a and and Doing decelerating and that's something that that let you fall at full speed cargo box to what yet that we've done on that before but And I've done what not to do. Ads for Southern California Edison. The Electric Company and so I was climbing. This is pull and now I'm supposed to fall and land on these boxes forty feet near so anyhow but Eight decelerating actually actually worked out a rope and air cylinder and things like that and these guys fall four stories free fall and then slow down to storage to the bottom but they don't die so I designed a couple of those in that worked out really well and but I I in the movie industry.

"Yep Right. Seven all based out of California this and then we had all all these skate parks all based out of California and I wrote the skate parks. Possibility I'm going to be in the magazines. The the the amount of people who watched or looked at the magazines I think just more you know and then you you know when you just see it on on a youtube video. It's okay that's great. You forget about you don't remember. I quit his instagram. No but you remedy fuzz magazine. Yeah so I'm giving you magazines pretty inside. Add you you worked out early. I guess through Bob and how to get in a magazine not necessarily how to get in the magazine but once I got in the magazine I figured out what I was worth because that way you could put a price on your head you know. If they have a an advertisement there are people who you know vans and gt Ian Skyway and all. These people have ads in magazines and it would cost them money to have these things and and we figured out how much that would cost. So now thousand dollars was an adult. She went down well. It's like three thousand dollars at so so if I got in the magazines and I'm using your skyway tough wheels and you and you're paying me. Let's say five hundred dollars and I just got a full Oh page Colorado ad will then I was well worth the money and if I got more than just one picture in the magazine. Did you end up working out. Contracts attracts with incentive. Yes so so. It was a monthly plus a photo incentive to the bad part was you know I had I had grip sponsors sponsors. I had seat sponsors. I had pedal sponsors. I had rim sponsors. I had helmet and blenders and shoes and every little bit. That's cool where I was making. I I was making when when I was making my first amount of money I was still in high school and I was making. I was making more than the teachers. were making. It isn't the whole reason I'm in high. School is to learn how to make money and you finished high school of Science Day. Just like Eddie. How do I make some cash physics going fourteen foot out of a crazy all? Let's look that up and then you know. When I was in in school I went to Japan? Dan so I mean like wh. What better history lessons can I learn in going there? Lock experience as much life experience. So anyhow I got I worked it out to where I did homework there and this and that and I actually paid somebody to do some homework in red rash and release is your life right so he he you know but if I was to do it over again at definitely get more into the the business aspect of learning from the from school But so so I have all these sponsors co-sponsors and then get gt as a sponsor within within GT started to make tires and then I couldn't have a tire sponsor because they may tires and if I wanted to GT sponsors. And then I'm GonNa let my tire sponsor go so. I made a little bit less but I still had. GTS My big sponsor then Gt made Pants Jersey Franks cranks. They made eight helmets and they made chains even my daughter. She's for Ron Van Slim. I couldn't run bands so I may like literally I was a GT posterchild. Dialed that Iran. Everything head to tell so. Gt of the specialized of gates specialized. Do that with the amount Magas. Nancy everything I guess and before that Aww co-sponsors for jt making everything is that why ran the discs for the product place. So on ooh on one of the contests that I wanted to win against Brian and Michael and and things like that. I was blighted Yup Yup I I was running skyways. I was sponsored by Skyway and and the thing was is that the next competition was going to be a pipeline and I knew the time in date was going to be hot skyways. You know they just get really flexi publicize tires pop off. You can't put any. Psi Science tyrant who wants bombing in the breaks before the bottom the KAKUNA and the heat up. Aw Sauce blows off so anyhow. I wanted to win a wanted to win. I'd do almost anything to win. Twenty one three eight. No so what I did is I just. I got some alloys and I made these wheel covers because I seen the cover of the Free Selam. Yes go there yet so this is actually afterwards. This is after the fact. This is after. I've already there was a different competition than I did needed. In and I covered up the wolves with these covers that I made that I had seen speedway racers. Yes yes what sponsors. So we don't run numberplates anymore. Why not put the sponsors on the side of the wheel? Why not put skyway stickers all over the sides but run alloys? I thought they would be happy because they got this phone. Logo logo would win the contest. Because I felt better and faster. You're on him. Well I won the contest. Skyway didn't like the wheels and lost a sponsor so Then Uni you literally came out. Luke took my idea we've recovered and made will covers. And then I had a co-sponsor through UNI because they made something gt. Didn't and and I was able to run them. And then I put stickers on and this and you know unless it was a windy day and windy with socks yes but but and the sound these things would make while you were writing him who a womb. All the way back down it was cool was was it a weed with the extra noise. WHO's spayed reference? When carving a bowl like Papa was resonating sound right did it was almost like like riding we eat? It was almost like writing a dirt bike. So you could tell how fast you were going to as you're rolling but you also remember that you know we rode we rode I don't think there on that. But we rode cop threes at one time or you can tell how fast you're going just by the knobby sound in the Nabis peeling off the southern Ente- news yet. I I've tried to three sixty spine was with a company on the front and it just folded washed out cobbing is being was a plywood. Masonite verdicts yes. Good Culture in the Front for some reason hasn't yet but everyone random everyone ran. Well it sounds like acuvue got back in time when you go to like a national level rice every single person on the gate would have had the same ties. Nowadays is billion in time. Manufacturers brands ties token magazines encompass. I have heard that you ended up dating Bob's daughter Oughta Hoop for me was one of the most influential I. Yes I get magazines right. Yeah no I started. Dot Windy Osborne. And it was you know we we. He had a relationship and I was at the magazine. A Lot Doing photo sessions and we just got along great so I'm sure it didn't hurt. Did you get more cavs. Because uh-huh that's for ad I'm I'm not that wasn't the plant. I'm sure wasn't the plan. I'm sure it didn't hurt. Yeah you know Some guys would say there are some people out there that say I didn't do any of this stuff I didn't I didn't deserve any of this. Deep fake yeah. It's everything's fake and and you know because have furnish them jeep because GT helped sponsor the company or the competition that I won because because of that not because ten foot out. No no not that I had any talent landed everything. Yeah Yeah and if you ever looked at the numbers on the nor- Cup competitions where you know I don't know exactly what the numbers were but I won by fairmount. Yeah you know so uh magazines defined. I guess for us out here in Australia. You waited magazine to get here. It defines you for the next three months right. You know I really did your to him. Yeah you're a big influence on a lot of Estrada's and I you know in. I just loved riding I. I was in the right place at the right time like I said you know the the Skate Park. Were there the magazines I wrote the skate parks. I'm going to get the magazine. So yeah and that brings us to the point of love. I was able to put a price on my head back in the day. What are the kids get to do today? How do they make any money? How I'm like? I set my my life riding bikes. I I grew up riding bikes and I was able to make money. You know being in the magazines and doing shows and and doing commercials because Max and then eventually got into into doing the stunt work where I would fall but so ride my bike and it was riding a bike and falling and so making money riding my bike kids now oh you know they they have it they have it easier because now they have foam pits and they have reggie mats and they have all this stuff and they can learn new tricks easier but once you've learned lurked what do you do with it. Just ambra instantly about those. How many how many followers do you have to have? And what's that number. How do you monetize it? You know. It's quite tricky. You know I mean I had a lot of people talk to me when I finished up. Twenty twenty one. So what Mark Vodka said to me what sets and he asked me. What do I aim? Aim for now if I can't get a cover I can't get a double page photo in a magazine. Why throwing myself dentist is? That's an interesting on. Yeah well sort of like a change in Attitude almost with the keeps now speaking earlier about how we're growing up. We had magazines we had. We had posts in the wool. You Stare at the photo Uber's obsess over the photo and it was like the pro rods pedestal right and now with instagram instant satisfaction instant. You can pull up a photo in you. Know it. It's he the and then it's gone lighter. Kids have posters anymore and they can see what their favorite pro rod is having breakfast and instagram stiffly like shadows is the special factor a little bit and there's nothing to shoot for the Doug around kids a better than On by and keeps get good. Sorry fast but where do you put it like what do you do with it. I mean obviously there's a few comes does not industry small others less keys riding compared to I. Guess y'All oh you're from the top of the game. We did it because we had fun doing it the kids today. They're doing it because they have fun. Doing you want it but we were able to make a living out of it. You know all the guys that were on the top. They're made living doing shows and competitions and things like that and tours The the bike manufacturers made money We made money doing you know the tours and traveling all over the world and in that was it but but now now where do these guys go. You know. They're still they're still having fun you know. And and they're keeping true to their sport but that's how I it's hard talking about those tours especially the GT to they were proper will will be proper world as it went to Germany Switzerland. Sweden Ireland Japan and then we went all across the United States. We went a lot of places. The only place I didn't come was here choice. Equi so I think I think that was Josh White and smart real. They they did a tour here so I I was already on tour somewhere else at that point in time so one place.

"It so straight Arba he he rolled in and we got the bottom. He was leaning too far forward and did a front flip boulder on on the ground but he this guy was you know toughest nails. He got back up and he did it again. So a second time down he leaned back so literally almost backlit but on the ground and just over rotated on the bottom the first guy to actually make it from the top to roll in was beadle Rosecrans Krantz. Okay so era Lulu from Honolulu. Yup and his dad and his dad Everett Rosecrans just got inducted into because the USA Hall of fame. He's the vans dude was yes he was now so so the movie I mean in my recollection of that movie which probably a million million times the bits that are worn out tape as a stop. Yes lock on section. Yeah and then the credits at the end Yep and then also the qualifying rice next viva. Who took the crash of the roots? So that was me Rexel. Yeah Yeah it was funny. That's heavy it's legit ninety nine point. Nine percent of the crashes on that move legit are legit the only ones that aren't legit her the Mike Miranda Uh of course crashes off the one berm and then off the cliff hanger section but all the other crashes were you see crashing off of the spoon off the kickable. Some guy broke his thumb guy broke his nose and it was on accident. Nobody was meant to do that when when I crashed coming down on qualifying track. I just didn't see a tree and I just hit the streets. Don't win over the bars and when I landed back inside the trail I got hit by another guy and Kim Jong knocked out after that and then really so I got knocked out. They stopped the race. They stopped filming. They hockey helmet didn't predict right. We get some galaxies out of that thing refer him yet that Cooper S. K.. One hundred so the they woke me back up smelling salts the whole nine. I took some advil or tylenol or whatever was in about twenty minutes of stop time and ready to go get to go so Sunday. Injuring taught pretty much ruled out in the Bush in racing. Again great stuff I like it man you bring it on. The magic of Hollywood is Israel and the the weird thing is Canadian. I mean I've watched. Is that qualifying rice. Because an audience say that till ninety six ten years after came out was one of those videos ever really soul and I just started rising Baymax the qualifying rising like sprinting kits off and all that really spoke to me but hearing that story of you've been crew like plan crew Jones's joins crashing in that scene and then flashing back to Moments earlier in the film when you're on the start line and the scanning across all the riders riders. And they mentioned the Aussie. Go here. Tyler Bob La but as you hulk helmet and it's a stripping thinking about you on your in that crash and then you're also you raise. Yeah so anytime. It's kind of like superman right anytime you see. Clark Kent. You don't see Superman and anytime you see Cru Jones. You don't see me. All the garbage is works out that way anytime in any of the races but it jumping back and forth. I doubled a lot of people in in that even doubled in crews best friend when the lady was backing out of the driveway. Yes crashes on top of the hood that was also me When an crew was at the park learning the backflips or his friend was writing the quarter pipe with the black helmet? Yeah that's one type situation gets so then you know in that in that particular scene. It's funny is that I double that guy and then I'm down. And then they put the actor in and then I get back into my clothes. And then there's a section where they said they need the the mattresses off the backflip thing and now I'm moving the mattresses in the movie as myself. I'm in quite a few times but during the during a qualifying race. What was funny as I'm racing? I not not racing. I'm in the race with all these. BMX racers you. Know there's some Scott Clar lar- heavy hitters heavy hitters. These guys were fast and and I'm not that fast literally. We had these guys scrubbing speed riding riding with their brakes on so that I could be out in front yeah eighty I shot a shot. Jump Rope ways. Yeah so the jump is now the biggest question provide for me with you. who was the girl who was go? Founded the twins icons any of my whole childhood as it was. It was the tiger otherwise Tiger Leopard print the save my mind. Yes I think it was a leopard-print one right. So that was so she. She still around she still hanging out. She does a couple of signings does she was at the the. The twenty fifth anniversary was Canada. And she's She was an actress and she still had the dress and it was. It was great. We had a great how brainy Yup and and when we did when we did do help track the in Texas you know Bart Conner came out really and in heeds brought the Jersey Z.. That he wore and he still had it and it still fit him so I think it's the only thing that fit only guy that would fit to. Do you. Know anything about Bart Conner. Do you know about Olympia Muslim. Those news so Zuma gymnastic he is a six time gold medalist for the United States funked gymnastics gold medal or UNFO-. Yeah so he. I don't know if you okay sir. Another thing another thing about this. Is that two weeks prior to filming Rad. Had He is training and blows Nia. Oh so he shows up on the set on the first day in crutches with this knee brace on and he didn't say anything to anybody. This is golden boy right so they you could pissed. Did you watch ninety nine percent of the movie. And he's in it. It's it's from the waist up really. Yeah and that that Strut. He does going going over to the girls in the parade scene right. He's got you know it's at struck. That's because he's limping infant. I'll start with some mean swag swagger right. Yeah so and did you. Here's the So what's the other thing is is that he is married to Nadia combing each really. Do you know who knows you WANNA million gold medals and she wants. She's got more than he does. And and she's got the perfect ten like she was the first. Yeah perfect end so anyhow they're married that's gymnasts right there. That's everything there's a Mexican gymnastics is widely linked with wooden Olympics in the fact that Mexican. You lympics antics next year. Yes is linked to Gary. From Woodward does he was. Og Masks and he liked pushed for Olympics for the study is right. Wow also rub dub auden being honeys coach now being paid by the Chinese government to smell trained gymnasts because they have airway Innis to. Yes the tricks on bikes. Going to hang hang up the cougs so okay well Olympic what do you think about. BMX conflicts not not rising so much good stall twenty twenty. So that's that's the hard part you know with me is that how do you put a heavy put a number on style. The Sky Pot comes you wrote right but I mean we all had different different styles. One as a style like my style might be different than his style and Mike Dominguez's style and Brian Blinders and we all had different style. But I mean it wasn't in about how hard the trick was but it how stylish the zinc looks and I claim that I had up more style. The mitric sworn is hard. I just had more style than I call a little. I gave it a little. Bit of Elvis. You're right so I had elvis going on and that's one-meter competition plus. I had the height then I landed smooth but in the showmanship swoon. We did freestyle. It was about being and Shannon. Write us about entertaining the crowd and doing that You know there's other guys. I guarantee that were better than I were than. I was But they just didn't have the style should've trick win a contest. I mean you know I mean for me growing up you know like a key crash Ron Loss trick governor. Something huge poet it and win right and not used to frustrate how to me. Because it's like why yeah not to me. That was another thing I I didn't. I didn't agree on that either. I just thought that it would be eh in the Olympics. I don't know how you you you like figure skating. How do you put basing the judging on things? It's like figure skating right so I mean like if you do a backward south cower something how do you do that with the backwards. They do that though no so the skater. The ice skating goes. I'm going to do these things in my wrong. So the judges know what they can do and then they judge those tricks on. How will they do it coming? So the making the judging similar in BMX. It's a bit bit Lusa by sat on meetings for early days with the Australian connection. How are we going to judge it? Just exactly the same conversation. Well we're GONNA have to break it down. They did it with snowboarding right so they know the ACI will attend eighties. What this much you have to do? Then you're judging right. That top percentage of how what was done points given our air more points and the longer you're in the air and Big Table should still win the free with the current level of freestyle in that in that realm. I guess not necessarily a Union Evan's ball complex in the face in the Olympic that. Ucla stuff the the numbers of how many whips and spins and flips like. It's almost impulsive. have style doing so many things they look at. Ah someone like maybe Dennis Innocent Kevin Peraza who go to those cop sometimes into a nice talking to handle three sixty and have like the most beautiful thing you've ever saying yes. And and then you've got a guy doing a triple back flip or triple tie whip flip something and the criteria have breaking it down in awarding points to AH gets who who judges on how hard that particular trick is right. Yeah and are they qualified I to be judges. So I'm like there's a whole process for selecting the judges and training the judges for the dealer wads on using the mix. I I would not the Jones coming out next month. I'm going to talk to him about two. Wow because he's he's on UCI properties his head of the BMX. Yeah Yeah I think it's great that it's in the Olympics but would you shop for the Olympics back in the day. I mean it's would. You have thought of when I was in my prime prime and doing what I was doing back then. Yeah definitely did you ever think it would get to this no not even close. It doesn't seem to be mixed as big now as it was when you're in your prime arm so back in the day we had seven different. BMX magazine Yep Right. Seven all based out of California this and then we had all all these skate parks all based out of California and I wrote the skate parks. Possibility I'm going to be in the magazines. The the the amount of people who watched or looked at the.

"This corner owner and leaning at the same time and pedaling she just knows he took the federal. She clipped the penalty over the bar and she might like a sack of potatoes right to the ground so we then please become infinitely cornell right so she she did it. She took it to the ground and she got up and did yes she did. She got back. We explained. Don't peddle so much or don't lean so much turn more and then she did it so and then then it was Martin on that jumped into the water. Yes off earlier that day that up that little lake or stream had ice on it. You're up in Canada isn't it. S Calgary I went to Canada. I went to that town gone right along the river the soundtrack I had the John Fontham Song. Because you know the guy wrote the soundtracks in Australia does yes. And he doesn't really administrator that that's his music tries to uh-huh pushed aside right and it's the only music Tom. Yeah ev of remakes of hardcore. Yes yes good yes right. There's a lot of music read. Send me an angel. Yep John Fong Him. I don't know what the other music is in the John knows the rest of the numbers in his but I mean don't find and keeps doing his farewell tour and he has like. Why don't you just come back? And just do the red soundtrack and I'll go. We'll get at least can you. You Bet and then we had some ramps off how that should do it at Advanced Cup Huntington. Or something fonzie. Farewell to right. Yeah the Red Soundtrack. If anybody's out the help track rebuilt a truck. So did you see any of that. I did YEP HAKA killing it on well Dylan Stark. That's right yeah start in the will not only that as he as he as the the the qualifying race. He backflips where they're supposed to be a backflip. In the race in the movie he backed Lipson passes so that he could qualify. Yeah that's qualifies and actually relive the movie he then after he qualifies. There's one last race because all these other qualifiers there's and the very last section of the of the race a there's two guys in front of him. They go up the step up the waterfall waterfall with the cliffhanger and they go up and as they go up he transfers over a twenty foot distance one way and then a twenty foot the distance deep if an en- lands literally lands in front of the first place guy and then comes in first place crosses a hope someone yelled. Give give it to join right. Yeah somebody might have said it it. You couldn't have done it any better. It was it was a picture perfect right out of the movie. So so who designed the original track. I'm no it was not myself was not myself. He was was it. Was Hal Needham. He he just tried to make it. You know the the best of both worlds and he knew he knew a little bit about the scape parts and he knew a little about raising seeing any and you know a a BMX starting track was this. So we'll make it like this and that was not something that anybody did. You know we had to stick a ladder up against the wall up ten steps and then drop in one foot and then go up in a couple of more than step in and it took us a little while to get the top. Actually excuse me do it. On our own and I think Jose John is the guy the back backflip. He rolled in first but he didn't make.

"Bob Morales started this thing in call the ASPCA. The American Skate Park Association and it it was a small contest. Guys that you know went to a Skate city and Lakewood and there was a couple of other skate parks around. And we just found doc who there was no pro- class who was an expert novice beginner class and wasn't any pros but we had a lot of fun and I just happened to win that that contest and it turned out so but but from their Bob was able to get more and more sponsors for the next one and then changed the name from. ASPCA is P. A.. Something like that want to the American freestyles. Yes and you know. I'm good friends with Bob. Bob And I knew where the contest happening. And then Bob had this company a sticker company also and and then he introduced me to. I think it was. Ah Kuwahara back in the day. So as one of my first monsters was Gora and I was able to get sponsored through everything bicycles and Cora and actually a promoted the movie e t Gotcha with that Mike so the before making a freestyle frame. Yes yeah we literally road that e t Cora says reservoir. Yeah Yeah it's definitely a race by show it right spot but we we KUWAHARA had sent us to Japan to promote it and we were right around the little doll duct tape or handlebars so I wanted to put my daughter in a in a mill creek. BMX on Halloween. which is like majestic busy? It's going to be mental but never did. At That I guess really. BMX Two a huge ordeal and another reason Where we're BMX was in the movies and I was in Japan promoting the whole thing where where they were filming at that time. And I you know Bob Myrrha Bob Haro was in the filming of et and a couple other guys Larrea. The choice thing is big chasing and made a lot of people. Think in WanNa ride a bike at that point in time so but you know trying to make a bike fly for so far. Didn't really happen so so when when Rad did come out and actually tricks you could possibly do that. Hooked a lot more people definitely so yeah. I guess we'll always going to get to ride them. There was no way. We're going to avoid that. Ask the leaders a job. There's a jump here. We're really skipped a few years here. I mean he draw me back in. We sued I mean. I mean the skype pox series. Yes so that's that's getting bigger so so literally prior prior to the Skate Park series. He's I got a picture in the magazine but then jeans engine and the other dude I know as uniform yes so so there's other. There's other pitchers of other guys in the magazines like Fred Becker. An old gay park writer Fred Becker. Then there was Steve Bennett and he was doing this. Bio Air Bennett. Where he's straight up and down enrolling straight into the playing and the thing that really started the skate park competition was that they put a caption saying well who's better Bennett or fuelling ver- and the next one that record on on his pace not on each page age but the prior month you know was knee and then the next month was fred was the next month was Steve and and so they were? They literally made the competition Russian. Start right and that's when that's when skate city happened after back. And then the bigger guys in the bigger airs in the in the a cover shots and you know and then Bob Horo coming out with their his freestyle rame which was sponsored for one day for one day for one day. Did you hear about that hold. I had sent it back in Christ. Bob Found out that I was going to have a photo session in Whip Bmx plus and it was going to be like a six page spread. So that's a lot of money. He's not being right and and it's his bike while he found out that I was GONNA do a photo session so he he calls me up says hey you wanna be sponsored by Haro coach. Really you're GonNa give me a bike. Give me a full uniform and the whole nine helmet and everything and and and I do the photo session and the next day he calls up. Say Yeah going to need that bike back. But I'll give you right back but but I need that for because it's the only one we have avenue it's the prototype and we need it for photos for promotion and all this stuff and never seen it again. Welcome to start up companies. You know the very first frame like the head is released e. They have released anything. That was there for frame as far as I knew that would. And that's why they needed it back. So bad is does that was the only one they add and I wrote it and and I still had the uniform and I still had the helmet and the gloves and everything and that's when I you know. Oh he said Oh. You'll get it back so I was riding corker prior to that which road the exact same way. The the Horo did so the next contest. Yes that I entered was I was in Horo and I got a cover right so I got to cover what you can't buy so there's a the combined that cover right so it's all it's one thousand nine hundred eighty two something but I got a couple of covers found a few. If we go back to the COM- slack Combs change with Morales on efate and then the village UNSCOM start happening in the quarter pods. How's the transition from right? So when the very first freestyle competition started you know we you know depending on where it was at depending on what type of What's the word I'm looking for you had freestyle an ramps men and you had to do them all all so you you did. Flatland did a quarter pipe kick turn ramp and Skate Park all at the same time and Co not same time but but in that same yeah and that was freestyle. What you'd go to a different venue for the skype Hawk? No We'd literally so. There was a skate park competition at pipeline and then right outside pipeline hype line. We set up quarterback. I never knew we did. horrify kick turn flatland routine. Gotcha at the points is added up. Ended up so uh-huh so you know I. I won the skate. Park won the Quarter pipe kicked. Turn Flatland all around happy-go-lucky it is the most famous I mean like footage and photos all the pipeline pipeline stuff right the net youtube King Escape Hawks and it's always that that Olson pipeline footage of you destroying it I guess we all flashback to. I mean I wasn't there was was one year you could feel like I watched some of it again recently. I remember how to nearly. Gt type when I start writing and seeing all that and saying the pipeline thing. These DOC is ridiculous. I watched it again today. I am obviously the box. Being I guess lack of Benetton Primitive. Yes and and and doing what we did on those bikes is act in. Yeah ridiculous and mega respect. Obviously skyway remakes being heavy lumpia. Cy Watching you. Have you know like I don't know ten o'clock in the in the full and then get on the gas of stockpiling before even the origin. And sprinting down. That deepened. Ten foot transition then above the fence bigger are my highest air out of that not with skyways but highest air is about ten feet out so now I want to talk about that You you did go bigger probably than everyone else there. There's better you'll run bigger wheels and everyone else. So the the reason for those. They weren't really bigger wheels but they were twenty twenty inch rims. Wants Elliott's by one and three eighths so the one and three eighths and like you said the skyways you only put like forty forty five Psi X. reflects in everywhere that that squish Sean the frame so when I went to that twenty one inch or twenty by one and three eighths you can put right and it was so much faster so much smoother so much easier on there and I tried believe me I try to a couple of different things to try to figure out how to get higher how to keep my my momentum going better and I literally one of the time. I actually stopped water inside my wheels zoo. Yeah I aired him up with water instead of air and just so that I can have as I was rolling down the Skate Park. I was rotating the water mass and so when I go up for an air that would still spin had hit my the brakes and that water would still be spinning inside my thing so when I let my brakes go start back up and Bruce Series. Yeah it didn't work but every it was an idea that I had that I thought would work. And that was the concepts knitted urethane highest. So you wolf. We had one hundred ten PSI tires back in the day on our twenty inch wheels. Yeah it'd be great but we didn't know any better ego coast with the twenty one three. Yes yes I guess. That's essentially initially the wheels around little kids rice bikes. Yes I mean what when by the time I got to that twenty one. Twenty one and three eighths. It's not a twenty one inch wheels. Twenty one twenty by one hundred radio anyhow I had gotten really smooth and landings mood and not hanging up and I wasn't breaking bikes and and it just so I could ride those nice skinny wheels but that frame I still have. That frame was custom built by Gary Turner owner. So it's it's made out of a thin wall tubing the the standing platform isn't that big platform. It's actually reduced and smaller whoever. Oh how it should have been. It's small Jess for the skate park yet. Just for that Skate Park bike I road because of the the the the rims I had to run different break so that it would have to be sure and The it was all custom built so I still have that bike and that bike is actually hanging in my stairwell going up to my bedroom in what it is that on the first platform of of my stairwell. It's exactly ten feet. That's awesome so that when people come by and see Mike Stuff I stand here if you were standing at the pipeline and you looked up. That's how high up to me. That's awesome now magic falling ten feet past. Did you now as twenty down. That's right. It's pretty amazing. No one else in industry has gone down that path. I don't think they need to because of the tires. Being you know the devil rims I think changes it. Yeah I think that was rolling resistance one hundred ten PSI tires and and I don't even like going going to one hundred ten it's sixty. That's my dreams. Come out though I mean. That's my difference. Well I came out with a twenty the six inch dirt jumper and I'm running eighty PSI tires and I'm riding escape parks with this thing and and it's literally Edwards. It works works. It's effortless since it's so smooth but it's built as if it feels like the seat the same spot that my my my twenty inches. The handlebars feel like my twenty inch. And it's just big wheels. You've had a big pot. You put a lot of energy from your experience in designing your.

"Banana Eddie feel fans. The answer is back after a short hiatus GONNA come back dead might as well do a biggest legends of BMX. Evan in Eddie. Feel some say it's it's a bit of a pleasure to have you in the studio banking on. I never thought the head angle would would get to this point and it's great to have have you. It's good to be here here. Definitely blew my mind when McClellan's game in the coal and said I can get ed if y'all the old for you he just if you're gonNA talk about BMX. I'm here all day and I explained to a lot of these guys when we're at the dinner. If you have a question and you didn't ask me and you left without asking your fault totally mantle. I I want to jump into some in a pretty broad audience. I guess we've got an I like young dudes the middle mid school thirty year old guys and then some of the guys. There's a lot of young kids who probably on lucky enough to have lived through the years when you were in your prime. Didn't start running till ninety six. Gotcha I was born in eighty. Four which is you know. One of your king escape hockey's but luckily I'm such a note and I love this the stuff man so I mean maybe let's forbid a history for some of the guys now I mean how did it will stop Journey a good question So you know. I used to ride skateboards a little bit of skateboarding here and a little boring there but you know. BMX was the way to get from point. Point eight point B because skateboarding just took way too long and when you go to your friend's house after school and they're on their bikes and then we find find some dirt jumps in you know. Evil Knievel is the thing back then and we all wanted to jump motorcycles but we had our our bicycles than we add to make them look like dirt bikes and so now they turned into. BMX BIKE so Taking her Schwinn Stingray and sticking single seed in the motocross bars and the mud flaps. And all that where you know just riding every day so and and we're outside. We're not in a couch or on youtube or anything. I just writing so whereabouts. Did you grow up. And so I grew up in in a little town called bellflower. It's in California. It's near Long Beach Doc. So and and Skate Park was I guess that is the start of the American skype pock dream. And where was the closest big. Right hunkered sue. So the biggest just Skate Park near my house was Lakewood Skate Park and you know going through high school. I didn't get a car until I was eighteen so I rode my bike everywhere so I I didn't fit in with any type of clicks. I wasn't part of the football team or the wrestling team or the pole. Vaulting team I just wrote on my bike. I was a guy I was literally the guy that everyone else is all. That's the BMX kid. 'cause I was able to talk to some of the teachers to let me bring my bike into class. Because they didn't want to lock it up so if they disappear outside this it's it's not every earn world. Yeah so Lakewood Lakewood was my my local park and then you know after writing it a couple times news and other skate parks would start letting bicycle variety. It was at that point in time. We're skateboarding was on. Its decline and the the skate parks understood that you know bicycle. Riders wanted paid get into their park so they opened it up for the bikes and More and more aware more bikes than skateboarders at one time but like I said I wrote this park every day after school and and one day I I collected the magazines and read all the magazines put pictures on the wall. I had Stu Thompson Greg Hill Harry leary all these magazines up on my wall but one day Bob Osborne from. BMX action showed up at this park. Mark that was doing a photo session with What was his name Road for Hutch Timmy judge judge the judge the judge Wright Big Table. Top Cross up one footed right so he showed up at my skate part that I wrote every day the day that I didn't bring my bike the one day the one day so I so I I begged employed within pleaded with him that. Don't leave GonNa Bring on running home to get my bike and he He says okay. Yeah we'll see what happens. I ran home. I Ram I. I wrote my bike back. It was about five miles away so ten mile. Yeah I'm sweating ten kilometers so I'm hoping I get back and literally Bob. Osborne is putting his his backpack back on. He's putting his cameras away and he's walking out the door going just two minutes two minutes. Just Yeah Watch me ride and I did one run and he started unloading his cameras again and and what was funny. Is that if if you looked at the bicycle motocross action if you go through some of the years prior to me getting in everyone has a uniform on everyone on looked sponsored everyone was just a sponsored rider and I think I was one of the first writers in his magazines without a uniform. Warm European genes. Yeah I'm rocking genes yeah. BMX every year. Yes yeah but it was kind of went out of his realm but I liked wearing the uniforms. I wanted to be sponsored. I you know and that's what helped. So that was the start of everything so was it. Oh rice in the magazines before. Yes so what was your inspiration the lung tricks in pock knowing when you couldn't see I think it was a skateboarding aspect of it so watching the skateboarders doing and then we're emulating the skateboard trick you know when they do a tale tap so that was literally our our aerial but was tale tap and then back in and back in the day we ran coaster brakes so a free will. Wasn't you know didn't work for us. And plus we were riding skyway. Tough wheels and brakes didn't work unless you had a coaster brake it just rolled from there. I mean as as skateboarders. We're starting to do little aerials and things like that. which was big for them back in the day? We've figured that on the bike we could go higher and faster than we had bricks. We could stop open and that's what it was is. We just went bigger talking about time. Tinker Juarez. Was Run your pock. Yes so tinker was a racer at one time. And and and he was in the magazines and seeing that and again having tinker on my wall was a big inspiration. Stylish Dude yes right right and it was just you know seeing him back in the day he was just just just gnarly. BMX Racer just the big and Boffin. Fast and I was just as a kid that came out of high school and ride my bike so we wrestling at all. I mean that the only option so yes I went to the racetrack. Only because we they built jumps that were jump -able and and everything was smooth so I didn't matter if I got I or or I got last just along as I got to jump the jumps and ride the ride the track and I always thought of who you GonNa remember the guy who got I that the guy who did the three sixty or that the doubles. That's probably what todd lines a whole rice career with rotting backflip. Ain't GonNa win this stuff blame but I'll flip it rice career. Todd actually want a couple couple in doing a backflip in the middle. Yeah definitely seen some of those. Yeah Yeah but I I you know I didn't. I didn't want to blame anything on anybody else. So that's why I wrote BMX. And that's why I didn't do a lot of the ball sports where you have a whole football team if you did something wrong and we lost the game I we can all blame it on you but if I fell writing. BMX free style. I fell because I fell if if I was racing. And somebody the knock me down with other seven other guys trying to knock me down freestyles all about you no one else you can blame so yeah I kind of starts. It's your point in time at that point of view log learning new tricks and nobody was before us other than you know. So there was Bob Haro there was RL Osborne. But I mean like the tricks they were doing the action trick team and and you know. They weren't writing it. Many skate parks even Sue Thompson. wrote some skate parks and they have it in some of the the the the book freestyle whatever and and we took it to the next talks crew until he started doing but we took it to the next level and it wasn't that we just I wrote escape parts. I wrote every day I wrote ramps and I did flatland and I just rode my bike and anywhere. I could ride my bike. That was it and flatland liked flatland. Because I didn't have to go title apart. I can go right outside my house I can do flatland and I think that's why you know when I started writing for. Gt and we came out with the performer. That at sold so much quicker so much faster and it was just an evolution that that you know kids now don't have to go to a BMX progress to write a BMX bike. They could go right out front and do freestyle so more accessible for the masses as opposed to going to tracking the town then good luck purpose of having a race by exactly and going back up to the sky influence. I mean that area in that time early eighties and the progression skateboarding was pretty rapid. Guess Pretty Heavy. Heavy dudes in that against those California areas like heavy influences a lot of big names that you guys would have probably seen on daily basis. I rode with Steve Cavallero. Mike McGill Tony Hawk. Christmas Soy Mike Smith Neil blender all these guys wrote at my local Skate Park. wrote it other skate parks that I wrote and we all got along and that was the best part is that we all knew that we were just writing and we're having fun and we all took turns and and we respected their space. They respected affected ours. It wasn't a bike thing wasn't a skater thing. Park thing so it's awesome. I mean I find it kind of weird as if there is a pocket doc. That doesn't allow bikes in such a weird thing. Because like a Scotsman such an Anne Anne Anne as its own thing and if I want to skate on corporate allege I can do it and I'm doing my own thing. I'm rioting landscapes this suddenly wise as such a rigidity around or anything and it's it's a weird thing for me. Yeah it's the newer school kids that that are coming in and think that skate escape and bites her bikes and we can't mix. It was in like Venice beach. There's a beautiful beautiful skate park. But they don't let bikes. I heard that so. You seen videos of some of the skaters getting real upset and swearing and screaming being in threatening the black riders and stuff like dude come to Venice Alesha the world you know. He's from Europe Australia. And he's sees escape he's GonNa try ride it. That's analyst. Local dudes at like supreme escape was at him. You know where where I you know I was at the grand opening at the new pop. Line right and Melba and Salvador both there and and they said why can't you come. You aren't writing. How Ya got you do out of anybody you should be writing this art because it's pipeline in and they wanted me to ride and I just I'm just here to watch? I'm here to hang out and I was talking to. "angle" Discussed on The Head Angle Podcast
"Welcome back to head angle podcast starting with Matt Holmes again. Welcome back for the heading number four. Yeah. We're pumped in a minute. Well tonight, we're pretty state. We got a pretty amazing dude with us. Basically, the voice of good times and bay mix in this fair city. The man the myth the legend design Cohen fuck doing of pretty pretty flattered by that. Doing. Well. Thanks. Thanks very much for having me. This fucking is pretty sweet I'm really looking forward to get to talk to you guys massive microphones in front of vices. Good. Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. We've all of us. We've dining for a long time now, and it's definitely shed a lot of RAD RAD times lot of black. Rod just cool shit, man. So that some glue to block roading than is still miss still deep wanna let's go back to the beginning of Young's. I've grown up in the Blue Mountains. Fuck you Atika start run box man accan- account out of necessity luck grown up needing needing a block, whatever to get around ten. You know, like good go up shop and get milk, and whatever that type of thing starts, rotting blocks, and then I was lucky enough that like Iran town. They just happened to be the worst BMX tracking lock all of these F Lyles go that flu season a row, but. Fucking everybody. Does what we the whole day. Issue on dudes, I suppose, and so I used to go down there. And so to hang out, and then I slowly learnt to ride a block as well, actually, like rolling down a fucking old school role in hillock wasn't like crazy one. They have now, obviously. But you guys know that. Wells as I kind of like learn how to rod down there and kicking around or whatever. And it wasn't like a little bit long. I guess I was fairly young when I noticed it. I would do in Rice's, Dan, the a whole bunch of people getting together and having Rice's not had no idea that it was like a formal thing or club any anything like that. But I just thought it was cool in whatever it is doing his cool, and I enjoyed that. And then I found out that my two cousins Roger and Mark Vaughan who like as g is a fucking com there from Megan area, and I used to build these jumps like like modern style jumps but way back in the fucking midnight. It's know these John still had square square fucking, edges and all the rest of it. You know trials midday young back then early. Whether the ones up near the cheap yet trials. That was both of those. My cousins. So that they were the guys that kind of like, I guess I saw like a block with pegs full pace BAAs and all that shit that really fucking tunes you own. You know, like the stuff that luck is fuck that's mechanical in. Oh my God. And then to see the dudes like like the. The strap in through the fucking Bush those tip jumps like just flat like a flat fuck implying, and then the jumps to just build out of the ground pretty old school stall. But pretty modern as well anyway, strapping through there, and then just like launching and all it's just like what the fuck is going on ways. He where's he going to landing there? Like what the fuck just happened lucky with fucking there. And there's nothing in between like all saying was the bam X track. You know, everything's like you make it or whatever the fuck you done yet. Whatever you make it. You don't know. There's no repercussions. This is jumping jumps with black built out of the ground with fucking nothing in the middle. And they knew that they were going to land. I was like how the fuck is. This had a fuck you guys work that out that is something that you can do and that just got me like just absolutely Amit with like just fucking fell in love. And I just spent the fucking the next. I don't know fucking longtime in my life trying to have a block that was even similar to this like something that looked heavy looked solid mechanical looks fucking like we could take a beating and shit and. Yeah. I never know getting one of those kids. Kid can't be fucking hunting. Really? I love. I love that your member was the first block you remember having like in writing the track and stuff. Well, do remember having a sixteen inch box. That was pretty sick that I locked because I do know what is on it for some reason fucking. At me knows like young for doing that trick. But I mean like young for having a memory of of socked on. But the grips will those molded hod plastic grips that molded to shape of little kids hand, we weaned flange. Exactly. Yeah. Like wrap up of edgy pinky and shit. Let's see a clean be wing ripple or whatever is.
