"Tuned into in deep with Angie Coiro Richard Clarke security and terrorism expert under George H. W. bush and Bill Clinton is taking questions from the audience member the audience is concerned that Congress and the president famously can't grasp scientific concepts how do we get them to step up and do their part before major calamity occurs and if I can add to that who's doing that right now do so I love making fun of the Congress because when I was in office I couldn't and it will have to testify before committees I had a the legislative adviser he told me this one rule to remember you can not be too obsequious in testifying before the Congress so now that I don't have to do that I make fun of the Congress but there are members of Congress I think of a guy named congressman Lang oven a Democrat from Rhode Island I think of a guy named Mike McMurray from Texas Republican they really understand the stuff so the Warner from Virginia really gets it so yeah you see some of these octogenarians senators occasionally making fools of themselves trying to understand the Google but it's not all like that and they have really smart staff members they really do so it's not a lack of knowledge it's really a lack of the president putting together a plan for a series of plans or series of proposals and going up there and saying here you know past this or amended let's talk about it there's no cyber initiative policy initiative for them to deal with does anyone currently have his ear that we might have hoped would do that Tucker Carlson all right good corporations get together to produce a one size fits all cyber defense system and you do describe collaborative efforts in your book there's a lot of collaborative efforts critically in in industry verticals for example all of the banks have gotten together and share intelligence information share best practices and have set up a system so that when one bank detects a new form of malware a new attack technique within minutes all the other big banks know about that the end of adjusted their firewall settings and and so there is there is a lot of data sharing in certain certain industries how are we doing with preventing ransomware attacks no well so ransomware for those you don't know is when someone gets into your corporate network or your government at work and they encrypted that sounds like a good thing because encryption is is one way of you know preventing spots the problem is they don't give you the key so you can't read it so now you'd log onto your network and all of the data everything on your network is it gibberish and this is a problem when you're trying to run the hospital this is a problem when you try to run the city so we've had a lot of cities hit by ransomware Baltimore Atlanta without hospitals hit by ransomware and what they say when they hit you is we will give you the key we will unlock the ransomware formed an million dollars in bit coin and occasionally decides vice companies the case Lee I got a call now and then the call will be one of my clients and they'll say somebody I know has a company that got hit by ransomware what do I do and typically I say do you have backup that you are confident has not been encrypted no then you pay no my co author rob Kentucky who's not here tonight screams every time I say this because he hates the idea of giving money to criminals I don't speak for him he says yeah they go out and buy Ferraris they are on the streets of Moscow but they also take some of that money and spend it on more advanced techniques you know getting computer scientist to figure out how to make things work so his idea which I think is in the book is we should make it illegal to pay rent somewhere okay but until it is if I'm the mayor of Baltimore North America led up and my job is to deliver services to that city and I can't because the computer network as them and all I have to do is give fifteen million dollars to some Russian I'm gonna give them fifteen million dollars USA today agrees with my co author and so in Friday's USA today you will see an op ed by the USA today editorial board saying don't.

"Give me a one eighty what what spell anything what the next person and another person was going away new Angie Coiro filling in for Pat Thurston KGO eight ten check out the cost of opposing Donald Trump if you're on the right I'm going back to the same article from The Washington Post I Serra Bailey Nancy French has ghostwritten for conservatives including Sarah Palin Sean Lowe in twenty sixteen she wrote about being a sexual abuse survivor she questioned how the evangelical community could continue to support trump after hearing him boast of sexual impropriety on the access Hollywood tape you member that language this is what it cost her her family has faced cost occupationally financially and socially they re three received threats from white nationalists after which she purchased a gun and took courses in how to use it they were confronted in their Presbyterian church for speaking against trump she declines opportunities to write books with authors affiliated with trump she said people were emboldened after trump was elected if feels very lonely if you're on the Christian right you speak out against trump at your own danger eight zero eight zero eight one zero Matt Hey thank you for waiting you're on the air on the Patterson show hi Angie so not a Christian not a trump supporter and I just wanna make sure I'm understanding what you're claim is kinda in terms of reading the tea leaves that were that the Christian right is moving away from trump is basically on this the subscriptions but these three thousand subscriptions main indicator I think what's been happening is is in the past the experience was just as as we just heard from Nancy French was the ghost writer experience in the past is if you spoke out against trump and you're on the religious right you did that you know at at your own risk Christianity Today has now taken a massive step it being as established as it is and as respected as it has been up to this point and broken they breach the wall they said you can be Christian and not necessarily support Donald Trump and to me the prime Meryl he posited they've gotten a lot of grief from the right I primarily positive they've gotten a lot of good press and they have sold more magazines now to me because of the caliber of publication they are that says a lot about whether they've really broken well here okay as long as you do not well it still seems like a kind of skip amount of evidence to be basing this on to me but I guess about the the other point I'd like to make is interview said that there's no historical precedent that that show the Christian so what would lose their rights with the government that's more atheistic an agnostic in America in America yeah but there's no real precedent for the love the majority that's being game now that it is proportional to the to the questions I mean they're becoming a larger and larger minority so it makes more sense that they're going to be under more more threatening specially with the evenly judgmental hostility on the left or to other groups that they perceived as dangerous and and limiting their right to free speech a cut or a you know this is going to be interesting I think you're gonna like our next guest mass so hang on for that we're gonna be talking Sir shortly to oppose you been he's going to address a lot of what you said right there so thank you for calling hang on to listen to him let's get one more call in here before the news break and I don't have a name on this caller we have we're going to call you line six welcome to this so I'm sorry what's your first name Kevin Hey Kevin you're on the air what are your thoughts I didn't didn't act he didn't ask me my name so inspiring and it's okay so let's have the holiday spirit here you go but no I you know to me I was raised Catholic it's all about the got I lost my train of thought digesting will you pass around the money into it the typing in the donations yeah yeah and and I mean just more money religion gets taken away into our government and you know Sam and this is the the founding fathers foresaw this day they specifically did not want religious influence in government some of them didn't realize how much influence they were I mean it was the water the swim in it was it was much more religious times so the incorporated some religion unless anyway but the that guiding idea was you were to have a body politic and whatever freedom of religion you had but they were not to be next exactly and and that's just my point is the fact that religion plays too much into everything that we do and like I said I was raised Catholic and I cannot stand religion and church and so on is it I mean this is half of the reason why the world is in war with each other yeah yeah it's unfortunately is a huge credit here power struggles unfortunately and when people have that sense of mission thank you so much for the call can I appreciate it what people have that sense of mission that they are driven by god when they really believe that that that over our king drive because god told them to you can't even argue with that and it comes down to power struggles in many cases comes down to war from the crusades on well I guess we're just talking about pas you pass out to join us and talk about his research on white evangelicals and Donald Trump coming up on the other side of this news break with Paul Rodgers here on KGO a ten.

"Opinion was becoming widely shared as Warren and outspoken critic of big banks and corporations gains momentum against Joe Biden in the twenty twenty race let's pause just a minute and look at the difference between those two candidates Joe Biden has made no big showed no big declamations about trying to go after inequality in this country he has friends in big banks he's got friends in Wall Street they're not afraid of him they're afraid they're afraid. of Elizabeth Warren. not everyone in the one percent of the ten percent of the one percent. really look askance at this some of them are very supportive. in answer to that story a group called patriotic millionaires who define themselves as traitors to their class they tweeted off poor Wall Street looks like all this talk about a wealth tax has bankers shaking in their boots sacrificing your principles just to save your offshore accounts and private jets keep crying we will work to tax the rich. now what patriotic millionaires claims is that they are the rich. they don't really publish not that I've been able to find they don't really publish a whole list of who their members are maybe because they're traitors to their class but every indication I've seen over the years with everything they have published everything they said it looks to me as though they're true to their word these are not poor people these are not minimum wage people these are not you know living on the next paycheck people these are the bankers these are the heads of corporations these are the people who run America right now. and they're not afraid. to support Elizabeth Warren. in twenty sixteen they came out in favor of Bernie Sanders tax the rich plan. my question for you. and I'm primarily speaking to the Democrats in the audience but anyone is welcome to call my question for you is if the land is staked out. if Elizabeth Warren gets the nomination. and Wall Street decides to withhold its money or worse worse. it into Donald trump's carvers because Donald Trump is rich Donald Trump is pro bank he's pro investment and he doesn't give a rats **** to the about a quote inequality. and they would support him over Elizabeth Warren. does that make you less or more likely to support her in the primary going into this. knowing that she has. for the word I was about to use would get me thrown off the air so I won't she has infuriated. people have a great great deal of power and may in fact have enough money to up in her campaign. if they all choose to get behind this this principle for lack of a better word. is that the end of her campaign what about you. do you look Elizabeth Warren campaign and see somebody tilting at the stars who isn't practical enough to work the system who has pie in the sky ideas about attacking a quality who isn't the right person to take the banner for the Democrats and try to work ride it to the White House. most of her campaign money so far has come in from small donations she is rejecting pac money she is a true believer in the salt of the earth voter and that enough small donations from enough people will negate the massive massive amount of money that under ride's most of our elections. eight zero eight zero eight one zero if you want to get in on this conversation eighty eighty eight ten what do you think of Elizabeth Warren as the democratic candidate especially in light of this new claim. that the people who hold most of the power and most of the money in America will not only not donate her but may in fact donate to trump instead to protect our fiscal interest. these are Democrats that CNBC talk to. very interesting stuff going on very interesting stuff in this equation. I think. there are if they can feel empowered if they can feel that they're both can't vote counts if they feel they can under under mine. gerrymandering and messing with the voting system and all the other stuff the powerful due to try to undermine the will of the voters if they can be convinced that they actually do have power and their vote actually does count I don't think she got in they worry about. it's sheer numbers. and her rhetoric. is becoming more and more mainstream. it's kind of rhetoric used to be really outline but a lot of things have happened since those days. we're seeing support for the auto workers strike it's lasted longer than a lot of people thought. the auto makers. tried to rescind the health care coverage of the striking workers and the public outrage was large enough and was making them look bad enough they have to put it back in place. support for the workers is growing. awareness of inequality is growing it's at a pitch. sadly enough that's because more and more people are falling prey to it. I think she has the rhetoric to talk to exactly these people. I think probably the biggest thing for her to have to overcome is that feeling of powerlessness that feeling of my vote doesn't count. for example in the poorer cities every year there are on the average fewer voting places. and their lesser staffed. you can ascribe whatever motivations you want to that. you can talk about. you know whether that is intentional or unfortunate happenstance that has to do with other stuff. but it is the fact it is a statistical fact it is harder to vote. in poor areas and you have to stand in line a much longer time that delivers the message your vote counts less and you can talk to any number of people who feel disenfranchised even though they have the right to vote as much as anybody else. my question to you is what does this do to your opinion. of supporting Elizabeth Warren if you were inclined to do that. and if you believe. which is not entirely irrational. that to get into the White House you need that corporate money. you need the money that otherwise would go to Donald Trump you know how many rich people supported Donald Trump in his stealth visit to the bay area. in those. in those visits to the fund raisers that were hidden under the cover of darkness because the people who were holding them felt they get retribution for supporting don't trust but the money is still going to him. whether they're publicly embarrassed or not. eight zero eight zero eight one zero we got calls coming in let's go to the lines of Gregory in Calistoga why don't you start us off your on KGO well place rack taking my call I just need to say that we should remind that history shows that that the rich and the powerful have never willingly given up their fortunes order power for the benefit of the society and now actually there will be pushed back against Elizabeth ward for even taking even to go back to Reagan era tax level so to speak with a screen yes you're absolutely right I wish I could point to an instance in history where you're wrong but I can't it usually comes down the pitchforks and torches yeah do you think we haven't done that Elizabeth Warren has what it takes to get enough money from small donors that she has a chance to take the White House. well you can never under estimate the possibility of unintended consequences how do you mean. well she major at the tide of history just made sure it may turn I mean let's be real if another women and and young people got out voted for should you know we wouldn't have dropped out the country didn't vote the last election so you never know what's gonna really antagonized people may be it may be people are tired of white old white guys in corruption you never know it's a possibility Gregory thank you for that eight zero eight zero eight one zero if you want to pick up that phone line. no it's worth noting that of the groups of people that vote one of the most badly represented one of the least represented is single women. often single parents not only people who've never been married I mean women have never been married women who are divorced women who are single mothers is one of the most poorly represented groups. to say the box office I'm one of those Hollywood liberals. the polls. there and a lot of them just don't have the time in addition to that feeling of disenfranchisement they haven't got the time like so many people they're scrambling to stay alive there are efforts to organize single mothers. not partisan efforts by the way there's an organization like I can't some of the name out of my poor little brain cells right now but there's an organization that is strictly devoted to getting single when the polls regardless of who they vote for but to get single women represented at the polls back to the phones at eighty eighty eight ten we talked Roberton Tracy Hey Robert welcome back how are you go there and say so first of all let me dispel your. your error in judgment you said you can't make the White House in small donations thirty seven the bar be able to do that he proved that he could do that but the difference is is he proves that he is a person of the people okay. I was a forty grow to twenty six to eight I now will all blown Donald trump's the border wow that's a turn around. well let's tell you why. because what I saw with the Democratic Party did Bernie Sanders who was one of their own and then I figured the way they come after Donald Trump if they would do that to their own people. there's no telling what they would do to a person that is not of their party hi this is only see you saying that robber I I was disgusted and dismayed at what happened Bernie that was to I was a pretty voter. but here's the whole thing there's two things why Elizabeth Warren will never get the I or the vote of the common person number one how many common people get paid four hundred thousand dollars year for teaching a single college course they can't relate and she can't wait and the second thing she works for her law firm she was the principal litigator that shows the as best as companies how to enter into bankruptcy and minimize your exposure to the claim that the people who died of lung cancer she's the one who stepped down the the. the strategy yes. or to do that yeah. would you show that you use you she does not walk the walk the great thing about Bernie Sanders ever since the sixties that guys getting arrested that guys do what he needs to do we're already lost be after twenty sixteen thirty turned around and he adores Hillary and he never apologize to the American public. and I appreciate your call I got to go to the break your son let you go but the yeah you makes an excellent excellent point yes I was absolutely appalled at what happened Bernie I wasn't so appalled that he endorsed Hillary what was the option Donald Trump and who else is going to endorse but I also want to correct something very quickly I am not of the position that Warren can't get in the office on small donations I asked the question that is not my opinion I'm curious what you think eight zero eight zero eight one zero eighty eighty eight and let's take that promise break here on the Patterson show on KGO. your listening about Thurston show filling in for Pat today it's Angie Coiro on KGO eight ten. for this is okay yeah what's your children in other words it will mess them up anymore than the other things you do I try not to yell at my kids I'd rather yell at you sometimes I feel like you can go and play now I think you broke the microphone and I have to change my fancy today at three..
