"Your average timeline of someone engages in divorce versus the divorce becoming completely settled in finalized. That could be a variety. I mean, my longest divorce case lasted 15 years. 15 years. So the kids were like three and 5. And then by the time the divorce was done, they were 18 and 20. So it really runs the gamut because it depends on the issues of your case. And some couples can just keep fighting and fighting and fighting until their money is gone. Think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. And then other couples are pretty like, you know, Tom Cruise. He was divorced with Katie. They settled within the week after it became public. So I think it just depends on the couple, depends on the prenup, and depends on which lawyers they hire. Interesting. Now, that was one celebrity case I did not study coming into this. Brad Pitt and Angelina, what was the process of their court case? So what actually happened with their settlement? So she filed in 2016, the case was bifurcated, meaning that they have been divorced by status, but the status meaning you can go and get remarried. But the issues of custody, support, property division that's all still outstanding and recently, I think she filed a lawsuit against her for selling his half of the winery or something like that. So that's still going. And it's been like almost so I don't see that divorce ending anytime soon. That is crazy. I just can't even comprehend how, I don't know, just 7 years of constantly worrying about what's going to happen in lawsuits. It seems illogical. But aside from settlement, so once the settlement is made and in the intro, we went over some of the largest settlements in the history of the United States, but aside from that, how can one gauge how much a divorce will cost financially? Like when you engage with attorney, is it a flat rate? Is it hourly rate? Is there a standard someone should think about? Like if you engage attorney, you're talking at least X amount of dollars. What would you say? So I actually license trademark and it's marriage is grant, divorce 100 grand. So I think that's like a good starting point. If you're going to engage in a contested divorce, I think you contested meaning like custody, I think a hundred grand is pretty cheap if you're going to fight in your divorce. So typically, Laura's charged by the hour, I think in a reasonable hourly rate would be 500 per hour all the way up to 5000 bucks an hour, depending on who you hire. And it just, you know, it's a billing clock. So celebrities, they hire firms. So you have like the senior partner billing 2000 bucks an hour, you have the three associates billing anywhere between 804 50 an hour.

Women who expanded the norms of gender and sexuality in front of and behind the curtain or camera. Today we're talking about an African American poet and playwright. Born into a prominent abolitionist family, her work often touched on themes of race and racism. At a time when women were rarely publishing work on the topic. Though she was never able to openly express her sexuality. Much of her writing is coded in queer language. Let's talk about Angelina weld grimke. Angelina was born on February 27th, 1880 in Boston, Massachusetts to an interracial couple. Her mother, Sarah Stanley, was a white woman. Her father, Archibald grimke, was black. The son of a white landowner and a black enslaved woman. Archibald went on to become the second black man to graduate from Harvard Law School and served as the vice president of the NAACP. Racial and gender equality was a goal for many members of Angelina's extended family. Two of her great aunts, Angelina and Sarah grimke, had been notable advocates for the causes of women's rights and abolition. At the time, interracial marriage was rare. Angelina's parents relationship was a fraught one, leading to a turbulent childhood. A few years after her birth, her parents separated and Angelina went with her mother to Michigan. A barrage of bad news and compounding challenges brought a feeling of overwhelm unlike any I've ever experienced before. On one of those dark days, I tried to describe to a loved one how I was feeling. I felt as though I was standing on a platform with a small cup of water in my hand while watching a train that was completely engulfed in flames, speed down the tracks. I felt helpless beyond belief. I was afraid of what could possibly happen next. I was shocked at how quickly and drastically life could change. And perhaps the hardest part, I felt anguish over being so far away from loved ones who needed support in so many ways. It would have been easy to lose all hope and to yield to despair, but through it all, there was a sustenance that I can not explain. Yes, there was a numbness, but there was also a resilience. Yesterday and nights are hard, but there is a growing strength. As if the whirlwind of events wasn't enough, one night in the middle of it all our fridge and freezer stopped working. It was a problem that paled in comparison to everything else that was on my proverbial plate, but it was a problem nonetheless, one which brought with it too many impracticalities to be ignored. As my husband and I set out early the next morning to find a replacement, we weren't prepared for how difficult to task that would be. Apparently our old faithful is an outdated make, model, and color, and so we visited much more stores than we had initially anticipated in an attempt to find an appliance that would match the rest of our space. As we exited yet another store empty handed, we had to walk around a gaping trench in the sidewalk to get to our car. There was rubble on both sides of the hole, but not a workman in sight, for whatever reason this trench seemed to have been untouched for a very long time. The caution tape erected around the site was old and faded, and there was no indication that works would recommence anytime soon, or that the pavement would eventually be restored. As I carefully walked past the open trench, something caught my eye. Growing out of the side of the concrete drain was a single stalk bearing bright green leaves and two brilliantly colored flowers. The sight caused me to stop suddenly in the middle of the road and stare. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Hardly a place of nourishment and growth, this plant had somehow found exactly what it needed in order to thrive. Barely a footing yet standing tall and firm, his beauty was pronounced by the rubble all around it. Wait, I called out to my husband as he walked up ahead. I need to take a picture of this. Of a drain, he inquired, watching me as though the stress of the last few weeks had finally gotten to me. I looked at him in awe, he hadn't seen it. That which most brazenly caught my eye was so easily missed by someone walking right beside me. I smiled and turned my attention back to the brilliance in the trench. I was painfully yet peacefully reminded that there is a delicate dichotomy to life, that we could feel helpless and yet hopeful. That we could experience fear deep within our bones and yet stand firmly grounded in faith. Though we could grieve immensely and yet, rejoice in new found life. That we could be miles apart from the ones we love and yet bound closely together with cords that can not be broken. That we could understand with a rational mind, and yet pray for a miracle. That we could look at the rubble piling up all around us, and yet miss the brilliant colors of hope that managed to grow through the cracks. Although the challenges of April have left our hearts filled with grief and wondering what comes next, I have a piece in my heart, a piece that knows that there can be joy in the midst of sorrow, and there can be laughter in the midst of tears. A piece that knows that even the darkest of nights have an end and that the sun will rise with brilliance once again on the horizon. A piece that knows that there is promise in tomorrow, hope for today, and that I am only expected to take it one moment at a time. And so I take this one hard moment and I fully lean into it, determined to look for that which is so easily missed. If I don't allow myself to sit with those difficult feelings on those darkest of days, determined not to miss the brilliance in the trench..

I thought the resolve to the kids are like forty years old. I mean this is. I don't see any. I don't see any resolution site. What do you think. I think that's a strategy. I think angelina is going to play out the clock and throw a legal arguments so the kids are going to be twenty and by then. They're probably not going to know their dad. He wants this to be over now. How do you know to get to that point. How do you know. I mean the young lady who had ocd and was sexually assaulted by her data believe Murphy place her daisy daisy. Yes thank you lady dmc for you to get to that point to taught someone like that. I don't think any acting school can teach you that. That's something that unless you've gotten to that point before the f. Viewpoint per se are not allowed to say that but dots where she was at at that time and my question to her is. So i mean somebody who's already developing eating disorder there and you're told oh you're not getting enough. You need to lose more weight on top booth being. Stick thin you know. I guess that's stuck with her. And all her anxious moment she's she's they have exacerbated her eating disorder and there's come a point now i read that she's actually gone thirty four days with not eating a complete meal each day. My concern with her. If this is true is that nowadays you know. She's she started her divorce. Process from brad pitt and twenty sixteen. You know. there's the horrible accusation of domestic violence and from what i've read. It was towards one of her kids which is which would make sense. She says that she would never Forgive brad for what he did. But that's a story for another day anyway Going through this having to place a restraining order as she says for the safety of herself and her kids mainly for her kids Going through that separation going through now. Having to go to south korea leave matic's nineteen year old there to start college. I mean that breaks any mother's heart you know having your child go off to college. you know. even you're buying the same countries hard enough in the same county in the same state and city is hard enough but show diva you know across the world essentially with all the stuff that's been going on. It's scary because she has essentially lost a lot more wheat. They're getting taken care of by the paramedics stuff and they have their moment to eat them and the little boy turns to hanna. And says is this what you eat every day and hannah just says three times a day and then little boy just goes. Oh no wonder you're so skinny and in a joking way Hannatised turns me. And she says. I'm lean buddy and lean. You know like they kind of make a joke of it but they included it in the script of the movie like you can tell her for her. Eating disorder is very prominent nowadays again. They got together and she seemed very healthy and that movie and the movie before that she seemed very healthy to end up movies after she seemed healthy. I guess happy again. We don't know. She has that facade that she can put on kind of like demi levato where everybody thinks. Everything's fine and dandy and everything isn't finding the them but then when this whole of worse happened i remember when she got married like officially married. She was skinny like a stick. And i wonder now knowing all this history that you shared with us if things work good in the relationship and that maybe this was you know her pattern that she's had where okay. And she's over very unpredictable cruel towards other patients like you described and she did cause someone to and their life but on her twenty and we'll talk a little bit later and isn't there also Like her character is also the one that kind of teaches susanna to or encourages her to not take medications as well like she shows her like how to hide it in her mouth when the staff gives it to her and everything like that yes. You're correct so she was a bad influence. She is the person that your parents tell you to stay away from. But that movie is very very powerful mental world as you mentioned that those that work in the field at some point we are required to watch that movie whether it be traded paper on. Do diagnostic on it. But that's a very important movie. Because i think in what we saw on the screen was really angelina. Jolie i don't think was lisa. So tell us the story of the movie correct. So those who wish me dead as i said was filmed that came out this year She plays she. She works with the with the firefighters She's the one that's on the towers on like firewall ch And basically what happens her. Character's name is hannah and what happens is one day when she's fighting a fire. She miscalculates the wind direction. So she kind of informs her team that it's coming one way but it's actually incorrect. And unfortunately she has those flashbacks of Of three children you know being swallowed up by the fire basically and there's other stuff that happens in the phone. I don't wanna focus too much on the other characters. But she ends up. She ends up feeling that guilt. Which is we'll discuss this later. Which is why. I thought you know i don't know the dsm. So i'm really happy that you taught me this. I thought who is pbs. St the reason because of the flashbacks and the guilt that you can see through her character. Hannah she ends up meeting a another boy. Who's trying to escape or really really bad situation. He ended up losing his father to two assassins. And she's with the guilt that she has. She basically is trying to save this child now that she couldn't save the other three so you could see through her character of desperation. The determination to to kind of make up for the mistake that she made you know She she feels super guilty about not doing her job right. She says that she wasn't brave enough to actually jump in that fire and risk her life. Which is what her her job was supposed to be as a firefighter. And so yeah i. I wanted us to talk about that diagnosis those flashbacks things like that. I think it's also a very powerful and important in that movie. Absolutely so let's talk about angelina jolie and who she is you kind of touched on a little bit when you were talking about And then i kind of touched on it when we talked about growing up to but i want to talk about her as the woman she is and not gio lisa enhance. So can you kind. I know you know her life. So do you want to share with us her life and what she's gone through. Well the reason. I look to the reason why she identified so much with jia and minis those characters to go into her life story as much as i can as much as i can. "Love that. So, most of the day will end up with me just working on a painting. And then as the Sun starts to set off, I will probably take a break. I may work on a journal at that point for a little bit or just try to come up for air and then dead. As the evening progresses. I'm, I'm working on my articles or I'm working on my book, I'm researching and I'm writing. So my night is, usually when I'm up, when I'm working on books, and articles, and research, and then, during the day, I'm usually working on my paintings and journals, that's kind of how it goes. It's somewhere and somewhere in there are, if I'm really, really good, I can throw in for hours for a little sleep. Well, before we close this and you've been most informative, what would be your Sage advice, what would you tell people? If you were sitting across from own at a dinner or something and they said you junk journal and you would say absolutely. And then what would be the very next thing you should tell them? I would tell them that they need to try it because it's very freeing. It's it would give them an opportunity to express themselves off. Define some joy in this chaotic World in this chaotic life and all live, you know. And there are a lot of people who will say, oh, I don't know how to journal. I don't know how to write or Draw off and right? It's really very simple. This is your Journal. This is your space. This is where you get to be, whoever you want to be and there's no one sitting there saying, oh, you did not draw. That knows correctly. You're just doing this for yourself. It's your space. "Lot of people discover needlework, you see. Yeah, you see lots of Long Point where the bushing, any crochet and its competitive. You walk by in your see someone got a blue ribbon or gold ribbon and then you go. Wow. You know that is the the showstopper that's the piece that all the judges thought was spectacular to me that in itself says a lot because you're competing against other crafters and if you offer a reward that's nice you can hang it on your wall at home. But you know, darn well that all the people that didn't win a reward are going to be back doing their crafts. The very next day with just thought, Much enthusiasm as they had before they ever submitted it to the show. There is one other thing, I don't know if it's a craft or not, but the area that I always like to hang out is where they have the model train displays. Oh yeah. This were kind of cool, the bunch of boys and a bunch of men standing around watching this little train, go around on the tracks, around around around, but it's fascinating and you have to understand that they build these models, all the little houses and the people, the cars, all that stuff is handmade. So yeah, that's handmaid handmaid's or crafts. That's crap. And a lot of talent and experience goes into building such stuff. True, I went through a model railroad, I guess, like, for just a few months, I think. And I got a little train and then once I set it up and watched it, go back and around a few times. I think that was it. I think I got bored six. I I did. It wasn't it, wasn't there more? So I didn't like it anymore. We would be remiss if we didn't talk about The food that you find at county fairs where they compete for like the best Jam. Best pie, best cake best all of that, well, that is a craft and requires training and everything, but but you have to be very talented to make a great apple pie, that wins the Blue Ribbon. I think that the judges on on that one are the lucky ones because we get to taste all this stuff. So it's kind of cool cuz they'll they'll try out somebody's preserves or their vegetables that they can't or whatever to make sure that they did not correctly and everything's fine and it looks like it's and they do a blind. They don't they really don't know, they don't know. Know know who they're judging. You just have to do it strictly by taste, but that sounds like fun. But those are very creative people. She is a successful artist historian and a writer. She's also excellent at crafting junk journals, which is why she's here today, it's going to be interesting to hear what she has to say. I've known her for a while, and the thing that I always like to say about her, she's a truly, a Renaissance woman, she's so talented in so many ways, so many things that she does are just quite brilliant. Thank you so much for having me over. You are so, welcome. So we have a little question that we want to ask you. It's a tough one. It's a hard question. So, okay here. Yeah, what do you have for breakfast today? Actually, I do not eat breakfast. Oh okay. Do you have coffee, or tea, or anything like that. I will just have water and start my day off as the day progresses. Sometimes I may have some coffee but I actually only eat when I'm hungry and most of the time I'm so engrossed in my work that I do forget. Oh, okay. And breakfast is definitely not a staple with me. Well, some people don't like it, they're not into it. You're not always eating. I mean that's not your favorite meal, you know, not me either. I would rather I mean I'm I want my coffee or tea and that's it but I'm forced to eat breakfast virtually. I'd rather have a nice big breakfast and then eat light meals during the day or the end of the day, we all have our own Rhythm I guess of eating and and things like that. That's true. I think I think my maybe a little off just because I the way I work it's, you know, home. I sleep maybe four hours a day like a good day so I'm constantly in a working cycle and so well that leads that leads breakfast time that leads me to our home. Real question here, although the other one is pretty real, I know, and engine I know we know what you're very talented. In many areas, you know, an artist, you're a historian, you're a writer. And you also create beautiful junk journals today. We'd like to start out by talking about the junk journals. So perhaps you could tell us exactly what is a junk Jersey. Sure. So as the term implies a junk Journal is essentially a journal that is made out of materials, that would be considered junk off. So for example, all newspapers, you know, checkbook, feeds things that you would normally just trash because there's there's no room for a flyers advertising dog. Meijer's coupons, things like that and so it's made up of all these items. These Pages these sheets that are considered junk, but when you put it together, you can change and transform. Those junky feeds into something more valuable and more beautiful. As you continue to work, on your Journal essential, that's put a junk Journal. Is people use all kinds of things that really just depends on, who is making the journal. I use all of those things and I use old envelopes, all kinds of things to transform it into a workable page that I can use in my journal. Hmm. So, what is your philosophy behind junk journaling? So, long as you know, I'm a historian and I find anything dealing with history, very exciting, My Philosophy, philosophy in general, whether it's my writing or song, Or making journals is just trying to preserve. Whatever is old, whatever is something that people normally wouldn't think twice about. So preservation is what drives me and my work and junk journaling is no different. I find it exciting because it gives me an opportunity to find something that I can reintroduce repurpose and recreate into something else, which still has a little bit of its own history left to it. So when you're out and about and you object, yeah, when you're out and about and you see something, does that trigger a thought related to history and you go? Well this would be a great in the one of my junk journals. Yes, absolutely. One of the things I enjoy doing is just going, you know, in in my town where I live, there are small shops and I'll freak with them. And sometimes I'll come across items that may inspire me either. I'll take the item itself. For instance, old vintage papers. I mean, come across something like that wallpapers off. And I mean, just grab those and then incorporate them into the junk journal, or it could be that. I just saw an old painting and painting it out. Antique shop, or an old image of a statue or something that just triggers some sort of an inspiration in my mind and then I'll go back and translate that.
