"Would you say that Virginia and North Carolina would be more attractive to the SEC, assuming that we come to that point? The conversation that we all have ten years ago when that round of real-life what was going on and we were at peak cable, we all pay for if we get the SEC network, we pay for it. Whether we see it broken out on our cap bill or not, we are paying for it. And that amount could be a slightly over a dollar within the footprint per month per subscriber. That adds up. So North Carolina and Virginia are the two most heavily populated states that don't have an SEC or a Big Ten school. So if you want to say where would the money be for two conferences that have successful cable channels as both of them do, that's where the money would be. Because you do get the brand power of each brand power of, say, Clemson and Florida state probably is more than that. But that's real money. Millions of people, dollar or so per month over and over and over again that adds up. Talking to Andy Staples India, which gets to the field because that is what ultimately draws those eyeballs wherever they are. As you and everyone else makes that turn from all the off the field stuff. What intrigues you the most heading into the season? Well, you mentioned that dear Andy question I got about Georgia's offense. It started out with, can we just say that that's been as good at quarterback? And I'm happy to say that. That's the minute it's good at quarterback. I know there's still people out there who think Carson Becker or Brock van de graff is going to overtake him, but sure feels like it's his offense. And I think the way he played in the national championship game definitely justifies that. And so what will George's offense be? And it's interesting to me because we've been watching all these defenses get smaller and smaller and smaller to deal with the spread offenses. I mean, Nick Saban has talked about this a million times. They weren't equipped physically to play with the old myth of 2012, 13, 14, Texas a and M when they got in the SEC. So they had to change what their people looked like instead of 260 pound Dante Hightower in the middle of linebacker. Now that person weighs in the two 30, now they're outside linebackers would have been safety before. Well, it's a cyclical sport. So what do you do if everybody got small? Will you get big? And that's what you're going to see from Georgia. You've got Brock Bowers, is their best receiver who happens to be 230 pound tight end. But they've also got during a Washington who only caught ten balls, but the average 15 yards to catch, he's 6, 7, two 65. You post a third and 5, you post them up 6 yards down the field. Who on the defense is supposed to cover it? And then they bring in Eric Gilbert, who is the LSU transfer replayed for them as a freshman in 2020. And he's 255 pounds, and he can move. And all of a sudden, you add them to some pretty good receivers on the outside, AD Mitchell we last saw him catching a touchdown pass for the national title. Then you've got done a blalock coming back healthy curious Jackson coming back healthy. All of a sudden, it's tough to cover these guys because they're going to go huge. They're like, they could go 5 wide if they wanted to. They could go four wide and two or three of them could be over 230 pounds. These defenses now are not equipped to deal with that. So I'm fascinated to see what those matchups look like because I think Georgia can really take advantage of that. Andy Staples always fun to check in with Andy. We will see you soon, Andy. Thanks so much for the time as we begin the program here on a busy, busy Friday afternoon, your phone calls around the corner. We will talk to Scott rabelais a little bit later on about the LSU quarterback situation. "Friday. Welcome in as we're in net August now and that means a couple weeks from now, we won't be here. We'll be on a college campus and that sounds quite nice. So let's get going with some headlines, speaking of college campuses, everybody has been a practice for a few weeks now and down at auburn. Can a special freshman make a difference? Camden Brown. He's a big bodied receiver and they need him because last year, auburn's offense just could not crack up enough production to get coach out of harm's way. Meanwhile, over in the west, down in the Bayou, Scott rabelais reporting, Jaden Daniels, the leader in LSU's three headed race, he's good. He's got a lot of starch too out in Arizona where he was the starter last year at ASU. Miles Brennan has got a lot of experience, but he keeps getting hurt. Meanwhile, nus Meyer needs a few starts. Dear Andy, wake up thinking about writing a letter to the athletics Andy Staples. I'm going to try it right now. Hey, dear Andy. Well, ala will, Georgia, having a lead offense. How long can Harbaugh coach? What about that fine bomb guy on TV? Let's find out by bringing in the aforementioned Andy Staples Andy, good afternoon. It's three weeks before the season, actually two if you think about the week zero, what are you doing on this fine Friday? I'm just shaking with anticipation for northwestern Nebraska and Dublin in two weeks. I can not wait. It's unbelievable. Have you been to Dublin? I have not. I have not been to Dublin. I have consumed a lot of guinnesses, but most of I've come. It's the only team Nebraska beat in the Big Ten last year within they had an aggregate score that was the same against the other ones, but they lost all the weirdest season ever and Scott frost has until October 1st when his buyout drops to show that he still gets to keep the job. So I'm fascinated by that game, even though it's probably going to be somewhat ugly. So speaking of the big Tim, let's start there, because they have, they have owned this week, and they may own next week or the week after as well. Once this television deal is officially announced, everyone's a pining on it. Your thoughts on what it means, especially to a league that has played second fiddle to the SEC for considerable time. Well, I think from a financial standpoint, they haven't been playing second fiddle to the SEC and I'm not sure people understand that. This isn't a new thing that the Big Ten is seriously cashing in on a TV deal. They've been doing that. It's just the way this one worked out. They basically are kind of showing have changed because when they did these deals 6 years ago, there was a thought, okay, maybe they won't sell a package. But even back then, it was, well, you can't not go to ESPN because any ESPN won't talk about you. And if ESPN doesn't talk about you, are you really there? It's like the tree falls in the forest kind of thing. But the way we consume everything is so spread out now. We all have our podcast or your show or our favorite fan site. And we don't necessarily get all our conversations starters from one place anymore. We go to where the game is. The ESPN, Fox, whoever's broadcasting the game, we're going there. We're going to watch the game. But we're not necessarily taking our conversational cues from one particular place. So the fact that they don't have games on ESPN anymore, no offense to your employer, I don't think it's going to matter for them. It's not going to keep anybody out of the play. I was going to keep it people are going to stop talking about Ohio State and Michigan just because they're not on college football live all day. You know, Andy, I'm glad you said that and I work at ESPN and I found that take of some of our colleagues to be really out of touch with reality. This is 2022 and you mentioned it. You can get information anywhere anytime any place and it's not as if fox is not going to fill that void on Saturday morning with something else. It's pretty obvious what they're going to do and what the Big Ten is going to do. And quite frankly, you're right about the money, but it's just from a perception standpoint, I think it was a really good week for the Big Ten, not that that takes away from any of the SEC bravado. It's going to be there primarily because the SEC wins the game that matters and I'm not sure anything has changed in relation to that. But what does it all this mean, by the way, since we're talking about the SEC to the SEC as Greg sankey sits there and watches the attention go elsewhere, does that motivate him to make a move, whatever that move could be? I don't think it necessarily changes much for them because I still feel like UCLA USC move was in response to the SEC picking up Texas and Oklahoma. I don't know that the SEC needs to go on the offensive. I think that the 16 they've got are pretty good. If they could pick the ones they wanted and get what they wanted, which I still think because of the fact that they have a very successful cable network and that does not necessarily matter in all expansion stuff, but does matter for them because they make a bunch of money off of it. And in fact, we're on it right now. But Virginia and North Carolina actually probably are the two most attractive for them if that's what they wanted to do. But again, that ACC grant of rights, I'm not sure anybody's going to break it. And just talking to people in the SEC, I think they're not going to act like they want to have them break it. They're not going to put themselves in any danger of getting to. So those ACC schools would have to figure that out themselves if they wanted to do anything different. So I think the 16 in the SEC has the plan they have going for it, they're going to be just fine. And really it will come down to Greg sankey and Kevin Warren hashing out what the college football playoffs are going to look like. How those games help participate that gets paid out because I think that's the next step is they're going to split a bunch of money with that. I would imagine it will go to several different networks that they'll cut it up. And there will be a lot of money involved. And is it a deal where the more teams you get in, the more money you make? Well, I would say that benefits the SEC and the Big Ten, but maybe the SEC a little more. Andy, you said something interesting a minute ago and I understand the principle of it, but maybe for those who only look and see, hey, Clemson's one, two national championships, large state has won one recently and others previously. Why would you say that Virginia and North Carolina would be more attractive to the SEC, assuming that we come to that point?

"That group of guys would hang a banner at Jack trice stadium and they would come back every year and be celebrated. And to me, that is the value of the expanded playoff. Exactly. And so I get that the Big Ten and the SEC, if they want, can just say we're everything, all of you can pound sand. I don't think that would be a good move for the sport. And I think they could probably make more money on the playoffs the other way. And remember, this is the SEC's way to make some money from Fox and the big tens way to make a little bit more money from ESPN. And I think there's probably going to sell them a package anyway. But it makes a little more from them because you do what the NFL does and just parcel out the playoff to various networks that want to pay highest bidder prices. Yes. Can you get more per school with $2 billion split 12 ways versus $1 billion split two ways or whatever. That's the mathematics there. Real quickly here India, I got to let you go. But when we do get the next round, is it North Carolina and Virginia, those two states that the Big Ten and the SEC are going to fight over? Well, they're the only ones that it matters territory acquisition still matters for them because they have successful cable channels. That's still worth money. That's worth real money if you can raise the per subscriber fee on people in a new state. Now, I don't know how long that's worth real money because the cable bundle still seems to be dying, they may be selling it over the top to us in 15 years. But yeah, right now, there's real money for that in the Big Ten in the SEC, not necessarily for the other leagues. But that's why I would imagine if they could get out of the grain of rice, which at this point I don't know if any ACC school can. But if they could, there would be a tug of war there. And oh, by the way, a lot of really good football players come out of those two states as well. Andy. It just so happens. Thank you so much, man. Appreciate it. Thanks, Brad. Absolutely. Now I'm curious what you guys think about the big 12 as well because I think there's a market in college football. For a conference that is just absolute parity every year every Saturday, every game top to bottom as balanced and as equal as it could possibly get. And if you look at where the big 12 is going to be and let's say they merge with the pack 12. I think that could create the same kind of deal. Where you literally, on any given year, or any given Saturday, you have no clue who the premier program or franchise is. We know in the Big Ten that Ohio State's almost always going to have the best players. So you have to beat Ohio State. In the big 12, it's been Oklahoma. Texas has always got as much money, but they can't ever get it all organized. But basically we know that Texas and Oklahoma are the best programs. For a long time in the ACC was just Florida state in the 90s, right? Florida state dominated. Would they win like 65 straight ACC games or something like that to start? So there's always, it's always been very top heavy. And the SEC, you know, it kind of ebbs and flows a little bit more, but there is a dominant few programs at the top. It's the programs that have, right? Right now it's going to be Georgia and Bama. It's been Florida and Tennessee in the 90s. There's always sort of a the SEC is a little bit more balanced over time, not certainly under Nick Saban's rule. The pack toll has been very balanced, but man, you look at the new big 12. And what that's going to be when Oklahoma state is the best program. And maybe Texas tech or Houston or West Virginia. I don't know who's like, who's like the tenth or 11th best program in the big 12, the new big 12, without Oklahoma and Texas. You're talking about BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, TCU, Baylor, Kansas state, Iowa state, West Virginia, Oklahoma state, Texas tech. Like tell me a difference between all those programs. There's not one. So you hire the right guy, you hire the right coach. And your program could go from worst to first in a matter of a year, two years. And I think there's a real market for that type of parity. Where you have one of the most insane Saturday afternoons every single Saturday every year you don't know who's the predicted winner every year. You don't know who's going to win the championship. Every year you think your team has a chance. That is the opposite of where we are in college football right now. We're in the Big Ten, there's a great middle class, but it's been Ohio State and that's it. Michigan and Penn State in Wisconsin have popped up every now and then, but basically Ohio State has been the dominant program for the better part of 60 years in the Big Ten. So to me, I think there's a huge market for that. I think there's a huge place in my sports diet as a sports fan who loves college football and loves the weird idiosyncratic imperfections of the college game that fell in love with the college game because of all that silliness. There is a great place for that type of conference. I hope Andy's right. Talking to any Staples last segment here on the Paul 5 show that that those conferences, those types of leagues, even though they're not going to win national titles, they're not going to have 5 star recruits or top 5 classes. They're not going to be beating Alabama and Ohio State and Clemson and USC pretty routinely, if at all. I sure hope those conferences still have a seat at the playoff table. And that is how we can keep the game intact, keep it recognizable and save it from getting too big. For lack of a better phrase. And so to me, that is that's the type of way you do it. The PAC 12 and the big 12 together with the Apple cup and the territorial cup and the holy war in Stanford and cow. And then you mix in Baylor TCU and Texas tech and then you mix in Kansas and Kansas state and mix in Iowa state. To me, that's a great entertaining college football conference. They're not going to win national titles. But it's a really interesting conference week in week out year in year out. And to me, that's still what I want. I want to be entertained. So I don't know. It's going to be fascinating to watch to see what happens. The SEC and the Big Ten are not moving right now. They're good at 16. They're going to stand firm. Notre-Dame is going to stand firm. They're just going to all sit back and take a deep breath and start working on some calculations. Methodically, strategically. So nothing's going to happen soon, but the big 12 impact 12, what do they do? That is the next big domino. My name's brayden Goldman for Paul, your phone calls next. This is ESPN radio. "Andy Staples joining us here from the athletic Andy, how are you, sir? Good to talk to you, buddy. I am great, Brad, and I hope you have mentioned that you had the greatest idea for a trophy game in the history of trophy games. For those who don't know, brayden has long endorsed the idea of Michigan and Wisconsin playing every year for the right to control the upper Peninsula. And I think it is the most brilliant trophy game idea in the history of college football. First of all, Andy, I love how your brain works that you remember that nonsense. I appreciate that. But yeah, the UP, man. It's attached to Wisconsin. Michigan people claim it now, I guess. Why doesn't Wisconsin in Michigan play for the rights to the upper Peninsula for the UP every year? I think it's a great idea. I think it'd be a great game, like a giant bowl of mackinac island fudge goes to the winner, something like that. Oh, that's tremendous. Andy, so there's been a report, of course, a couple of guys Matt Hayes Dennis dod saying that the SEC is going to stay at 16 four now, which is sort of like me reporting that my wife and I are not pregnant for now. At least well, if she was, it would be big news. If you were, it would be massive news. Right. But you get my point though, right? Like I don't think that there was ever any movement coming for the SEC. No, they were not going to make the next move. Something drastic will have to happen for them to make another move, but that's not to say that won't happen. But this screams to me, hey, ACC. We're certainly not tampering with any, anybody's grant of rights here. Like, we're not bothering those schools. If they want to do something and then maybe reach out to us, that's fine, but we are certainly not reaching out to them. And then I think the only there's really only one school that could ring up Greg, thank you right now and be like, hey, we want in and he'd be like, okay, cool. Would be Notre-Dame. And it doesn't really make a lot of logistical sense to do that. I mean, if Notre-Dame decides that they want to give up their cherished football independence and join a conference, at this point, the Big Ten being basically a nationwide conference in their name being a nationwide playing and recruiting school, that probably makes the most sense. And I think Andy Andy Staples joining us here bring all in for Paul and the Paul find bomb show ESPN radio. I think it's more of like if there's a breakaway and the only path to a playoff spot is if you are in a conference, like it's mandated, then I think that Notre-Dame gets pushed maybe into the arms of the Big Ten. But again, I don't think they're doing anything anytime soon either. They don't have to. They're in a position where they can wait and see. But here's the thing, they're going to have to get together. And this is something Greg, thank you, has been warning people about for the last few months. They will have to get together and come up with a playoff plan because there is no plan past 2025, stadiums are not booked, hotel blocks are not like these things have to be done years in advance or there's going to be some pipefitters convention that X is you out of where you want to be. So you've got to actually start talking about this stuff and it's created this weird chicken egg thing. Like we're going to find out whether it's the chicken or the egg because we'll see which actually happens first like the playoff format or the schools ultimately aligning in the way we think they're going to align for a while. But at this point I don't know what comes first. I think that's kind of fascinating. Yeah. What's interesting is I think you could solve some of those problems by just playing all the games at host locations in home stadiums where college what a crazy idea. Playing college football and college football stadiums where they're meant to be played. Maybe on Saturday's two Andy, how about on Saturdays maybe even think about that? Listen, Braden, let's not go crazy here. Here's an interesting angle though to consider about playoff expansion. I am, I don't know how the timelines line up, but Greg sankey in that four person playoff expansion committee said they had been working on this expansion concept for two years. We know that Texas and Oklahoma goes back to about January of last year. Give or take. So in theory, in theory, if the group of conference commissioners had voted to expand and they had given the PAC 12 and automatic bid and the big 12 and automatic bid and all these teams and the or even not giving them an automatic bid was it said 6 of you the top 6 get an automatic. Does that stop the Texas Oklahoma USC UCLA move in your opinion? Or at least or at least delay it some. No, because the Texas Oklahoma move made too much sense for them. And USC and UCLA have been agitating in the PAC 12 since it became the PAC 12 and started doing equal revenue sharing. Because they always thought, hey, we should get more. And they did get more at one point. And so it was probably bound to USC especially. UCLA is a little bit different. And I realized they had debt. But USC probably probably wasn't going out of partner anyway. But USC has been headed down this road for quite some time. Andy Staples joining us here on the Paul find bomb show brayden Gaul in. So for now we know things are maybe going to calm down a little bit, but we know that there could be a West Coast combination merger of some sort coming between the big 12 impact 12. Do you think there is space if everyone's concerned? And I'm a diehard college football nut just like you. If everyone's concerned about the big business approach to college football, the consolidation and losing the charm and not raising another generation of football fans, is there a place for counter programming where you on the West Coast could say, look, we're going to take that 10 p.m. Eastern Time slot. "William and maryville, Tennessee, is up next. Hello, Paul. The conqueror go right ahead. Well, governor Paul governor signed bomb excuse me, so I don't want to be disrespectful. Yeah, I've heard a couple of your guests talk about how walk ons are affected under NIL. But you know, there's another angle of this, Paul, and I don't guys talked about it. And why couldn't a coach or a program use walk ons to expand their 85 scholarship limits by taking a young man that maybe is a good student in state player and saying, look, we're not going to give you a scholarship, even though you deserve one, we're going to give you an NIL package and maybe an academic scholarship and some NIL money and we're going to keep you as a walk on. But it's going to open up another scholarship for somebody else so we can basically had our roster. And using IL to get our own scholarship limits. Good point. Have you ever been to talk about doing that? Not yet. You're the first. Interesting point, interesting point, Paul. Was that a doubt? Day care governor, see you. I can't get away from this governor thing. If elected, I will not serve. Don is in Maryland. Hello, Don. Hey, I was laughing. Hey, governor. That's a good title. That's a good time. I like that. Thank you. Paul, the downside of the SEC, I think it affects people's thinking. I have two quick questions. How many years has Kirby smart been head coach at Georgia? 6. How many national titles did Nick Saban win in his first 5 years? Zero. At Alabama? Well, no, well, now hold on a second. You didn't say it Alabama. Kirby smart's only been a head coach since he went to Georgia. Nick Saban started at Michigan state. Nick Saban won Nick Saban one, I think, three in his first 5 years. Right, right. I meant to compare. Kirby smart's first 5 years at Georgia. That's okay. With Nick Saban's first 5 years of Alabama. We have a delete button on this show. We can always correct. Hello? Hello? It's me. The governor is still here, Don. Don is not. The dawn. It has left the building walker is up next to hello walker. Hello, how are you? Quite well. Thank you. So I want to talk about the division standings. So who do you think will win the SEC east and the SEC west? Georgia. I feel like that's what a lot of people are saying, which I mean, I feel like Georgia and the east right now is pretty secure. I feel like they did lose a lot of players in the giraffe, but they got a lot of people back in the new recruiting class, but this year I feel like honestly think a and M has got it in the west. They got like, tell me if I'm wrong. I think 7, 5 stars, 8 5 stars. I know so wrong, but you told me that. Can you tell me who their quarterback's going to be? No, I can't. The quarterback is. I can't tell you who the Alabama quarterback is going to be. One more thing I can tell you, I can tell you that the Alabama a and M game is October 8th in Tuscaloosa. That will meet tough game. I feel like I do feel like bam was going to win that, but I feel like overall I do feel like sex a and M is going to have a better season. I feel like they're going to win more games outside of their like outside of their outside of the outside of Bama. They're Bama game. I feel like they're going to win all their other match ups. My question is, will a and Evan will a and M be even undefeated by the time they get to Alabama? They got Miami. Arkansas at Mississippi state. That's a those are two games that the aggies lost last year against Arkansas and Mississippi. I feel like Arkansas, I don't think I do not think they will lose to mister state this year. I just don't think that's going to happen. Miami probably not. I feel like if they're going to lose one game and it's a big, how do I say like underdog is Arkansas they are very good. They think they could shock a lot of people like they're going to be a soft matchup for my gamecocks week two, which that's a game I'm really scared about. So I feel like if they're going to lose one of those games, it's probably going to be dark and so. Walker, you've got a future in sports casting, coliseum. We'll take a break. I like that kid. We talked to buzz yesterday we will be interested in that, the women begin tomorrow night and the men on Saturday will cover it all for you right here. Let's get going. With some headlines and, oh, snubbed. Come on. We talked to bugs Williams last night. He's sound like he's in a pretty good mood, but he's also pretty determined to let everyone know that, yes, they are going to win the NIT and let everyone chew on that one. How about that? Do you remember who won the NIT last year? We'll tell you who won the NRT about 5 hours from now. Let's get going here with some more headlines and before we get too deep into the program and Alabama are they ready or not? Unleash the best pass rush. Well, when you have the best player in football, it doesn't hurt your pass rush Anderson Turner toe to toe. That's a lot of sacks. Beware if you're a quarterback on the other side of the ball. How about a new rivalry? Tennessee football. On this, did I read that correctly? What's all that about? Oh yeah, lane kiffin. I keep forgetting he remember he tossed out the golf ball the other night and his almost promptly lost three straight to Tennessee. Are we going to see Tennessee and all this? Notre-Dame LSU, Oklahoma, southern Cal, Miami, and Ohio State. Those are rivalries from yesteryear. We're not probably not going to see too many of those because when the SEC expands with Oklahoma and Texas, I don't think Tennessee will miss is going to be one of the games that we see. But the plan, it has not been worked out yet, should be that we see every team sees the other. We'll see every team within two years. That's the working plan as we speak, much more on that. I mean, nothing against Mike leech, but how do you, how do you rank Mike leech ahead of lane kiffin, who has had his number the last two years. Now, Dion, that's another story. After all, he's got a lot of experience. We are going to begin your phone calls right now at 855-242-7285. Is that am I reading that correctly? Vic calling from Austria, where it's probably what? 8 O four, is that right? It's 9 O four. 9 O four. Okay, I got my Australia. Austria standard time wrong. Where are you in Austria? In Vienna. My grandmother was from Austria. But not from Vienna. So tell us what's going on there in Vienna. Well, before I get to my question, I just want to invite handsome Joe to Vienna. And if you'll bring me some vine sausage and saltine crackers, I'll take him to some fine art museums. Yeah, you know, there's so much culture in Vienna from classical music to art. I don't know. I'm something tells me that handsome Joe is probably not interested in going to where Beethoven wrote some of his greatest works. Would you agree? Well, it'd be nice to hear him report from like the porcelain collection at the CC museum. I hope so. Okay, hi, Paul. I remember the very first call from your Louisiana process server. And it was a good call. And while I don't want to plagiarize his format for fear, he'll retain a real lawyer, I'd like to borrow from his format and ask 5 questions that require one answer. Okay. Number one, not according to the number on the paycheck, but according to the value to his organization, who is more underpaid, Sabin or sankey. Good question. Are you asking me to go to number two? Okay, I'm going to say underpaid would be sankey. Number two in 15 years will Vanderbilt be in the SEC. Yes. You won't tell Jeremy foley up as the gold standard, but given the state of facilities when he left and the millions paid to fire coaches, do you still consider him one of the best? No, I do not. Do you think low and mid level schools that have zero chance of ever playing in the playoff will break away and form their own league, which adheres to the old scholarship only format. Vic, yes, I do. The number 5 if Jim hadn't heard his shoulder in junior high school some 65 years ago, what archbishop merino still be in Birmingham and.

So what's up coach farm? What is going on who ever thought you see today on the fly mom show that Iron Man would stand up for the legend, Paul? Telling secrets about you know who? No. No, Ted Williams said. I mean, you know, me and I man speak occasionally, you know, most callers on this show, Paul, we know that there's three sports in reality. We know about having fun. You know, I was just thinking the other day, man, you got a hell of a lineup of collars. You know, they said the old college, you know, like, Tammy, the legend. You know, K dove, all them guys was a great lineup. The man I was just saying, man, you got a hell of a line up now, Joe from red bay, Daryl. Of course, the legend. Can't wear this occasionally bad cleanup. Squirrel. Oh, these ones. I mean, you got a lot of gold. Well, I hate to remind hate to report that we have lost one of those callers. We had an off the air call tonight from the artist formerly known as Ted Williams and he's not calling anymore. Well, I got that same phone call 30,000 a day for 30 straight days and believe me brother. Believe the legend. You know that old world game Simon says oh yeah, well we gonna play legs and says. Let's have that old ass baggy ass dragon ass man. We'll call you with a two days. I bet a 1001 on it. Hell, his old ass might be on the line now. Hello there, it's 5 feet on the line. Now, hey, let me say this Paul by the auburn situation. And every Oliver fan out there listening knows I am telling you the frigging truth. You've been a dirty program forever. You know it. We know it all miss those admissions. I was at Arkansas on the floor, and I was at George knows. Everybody knows you dirty. Everybody knows you to pay late and say program. If you can't pay them, payoff, you get them late, and if they don't go for that, you'll get them safe. I mean, there's no program in the country pay them more coaches than y'all. Y'all got 30 X coaches on the payroll and fixing the add another one. So let me give you the right. And you can give me a $1 million you pay an M generals and them yellow wood and you can give that money to me. Go get you free. You already got a basketball coach on 8 year probation. You already know you're dirty. We know you're dirty. Go get a real freaking coach. Go get you freeze and get back in the freaking game and stop playing around. Now, there was Alabama plan yesterday that called and said they're embarrassed by the legend. Well, let me tell you something. I represent a sidewalk alumni. I resent I represent the construction worker the dishwasher. The ladies as a waitress. I represent a normal man. I could give a damn if you don't on the wall, loving Alabama's plan. Like the legend. One damn little bit. A black hat. NWO. East coast baby. And your opinion on me means absolutely nothing. I'm embarrassed by you that your education has made you stupid and uneducated. That's what's bringing embarrassment that you think you better than me brother. You ain't. Legend out. Black cat. East coast, baby. Well done, rack that. Let's continue with more calls, Sam. Is next. Hey, Paul. It's just saying from people. I just wanted to throw my two CNC and own the situation at home. Sure. I'm an alumni. My wife is alumnus, my three children or alumni have a vested interest to say they see an emergency do well in all areas. Two individuals in my mind need to be removed from their positions and that's when Jimmy Rayne and John harbor. And I'll tell you why. If you think back when jet gate occurred with tunable, Jimmy saxton was smart enough to get a clause in terrible contract that if anybody represent an album university, contacted another coach without comparable or Sexton first, they were going to pay the price. Well, guess what? Mister rain, in one of his fits, calls up mister Sexton and inquires about Houston nut, who happens to be the agent for both Tommy and net. Well, mister rang has given a lot of money at the university, but he's also cost us a lot of money from stupid decisions. Fast forward to mister Harmon. He turns around, first of all, the university goes to seek out leaf as the president. He's a crook. He owed our state money. They cleared all that up. They turned around and hired him anyway, and he and mister harmer gave miles on the moon. First of all, the board, in my mind, did not exercise good judgment in hiring somebody like lease, but they went on anyway. And then we give all of this money to miles on. So mister Harvard has given a lot of money to the university, but he has cost us a lot of money as well. And just like your Andy staple said earlier, we've created an environment down there. Then you're both want to get involved with it. So just going to come down here to this circus. This is a power grab is an egotistical thing on the part of these two individuals. Let's face it, coach die called the shots until he drew his last breath. When he died, they created this vacuum. They are destroying this university. And they don't like Alan green, Alan green is the AD. He's in charge of her in a coach. He went out and got a coach. And the almond family should get behind this university and kick these two clowns to the curb, and that's my opinion. Sam, thank you. We are officially out of time for this program. We appreciate all of you for being a part of it. Some really interesting guests today will see you right here tomorrow. Thank you for listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast, the Paul find bob show airs weekdays on the SEC network, beginning at three eastern..

"Ron August the next year. Okay. And then start a whole new civilian life. I grew up an army brat in south Alabama so I've been the military brat, and that almost 26 years and figure out what I'm going to actually do for 11 once I get out. Well, it sounds like you whatever you do, you are well prepared for it. First of all, thank you for the call and thank you for what you've done for all of us in your many, many years of service. You'd be well. Take care of yourself. We're heading to a break. We have Andy Staples next on the latest with auburn. At some point, we will move on. Probably soon. But Andy will join us in just a moment. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Supercuts moments that matter from the first draft podcast where Mel kiper junior Todd mcshay and field Yates is there a quarterback worthy of being drafted number one overall because no player has the ability to influence a franchise more than a young quarterback in. Is there one this year? Absolutely not. And I could say a 1000% no. And how high will you move Kenny Pickett from pit up? How high will you move Desmond Ritter Cincinnati? Todd already set. He doesn't seem to have Ritter as one of his top quarterbacks. Matt carral, old myth. You think about a kid like Malik Willis liberty who struggled down the stretch. He really had some struggles to re INT against Louisiana Monroe. Middle Tennessee state saw what happened late year when the competition got a little bit better. So a rough game guy's old miss. Now that's not his fault. You can't go just on just quarterback when your team's out man. They couldn't block them. You can't pay them if you can't block them in football, but the quarterbacks they answer your question feel nobody is then that top tens at a category right now. In fact, when I look at my big board, I see Kenny Pickett at 19 Desmond Ritter 20, Mac pro 22. Malik Willis the 28. Yeah, it's interesting because just looking at my grades on this year's class versus last year's class and talking to a couple probably three or four different people over the last month or so in the league for evaluating this quarterbacks already. I would say the same thing as the people I talked to in the league and that said, you would be jumping off at number 6 in terms of quarterbacks if you were trying to stack this year's.

"Welcome back. It has been a remarkable show so far and we still have an hour to go. We'll get more of your phone calls in just a moment, but Andy Staples is waiting to come on and we look forward to chatting with Andy. Certainly, a lot of conversation about the playoff. Where is Jim Phillips up to? He's the ACC commissioner for those of you who are wondering. Andy, good to have you back with us. So two weeks removed from the national championships, still trying to figure out what the future looks like for the CFP. How are you and tell us more? I'm good. I'd love to know two Paul. I thought they came up with a pretty good plan and I heard George cliff cough on the show on Friday talking about how, well, nobody told us the plan and it was four guys who came up with this and it shouldn't have been revealed to the public. I think it was the reveal to the public and the reveal to us was a calculated move by the people who came up with it, Greg sankey and bob bowlsby and jacksboro brick and Craig Thompson. I think they knew that a 12 team plan was going to need some massaging was going to need some selling. And they got it. They got it sold. And I think there's a lot of people who look at it and go, hey, this kind of meets everybody's needs here. But now you have other conferences saying, well, we don't need to do it so quickly. And it seems like the inciting event that made people say they don't need to do it so quickly was Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC. And if that's the only reason because you're mad, the SEC made the move that you would have made and the SEC commissioner was one of the four people who created this plan. That's a bad reason to hold it up. Now Jim Phillips and the ACC has said, hey, there's a lot of change going on. Don't really know how the sport's gonna be governed in 2026. Maybe we shouldn't be making any knee jerk decisions. That part, I understand. I understand why you would want to be cautious there. But I don't know how long you want to be cautious if it's to the detriment of your league. The ACC hasn't really been left out of the playoff much. They've had Clemson and they have the year they had Clemson and Notre-Dame when Notre-Dame was playing the ACC. But Clinton doesn't get good again, the pressure might ratchet up a little on Jim Phillips to get something done. Andy, I want to go back to what you said and I thought clear cough very compelling individual and even though I didn't agree with any of it, he had me nodding my head going, yeah, that makes a lot of sense. But this thing came out, sometime in June, the Texas Oklahoma decision was huge. I 22nd or third when it still lies do you remember anyone saying they were against the plan from the moment it was formally announced about where they were heading until Birmingham and the Texas O you revelation? No, it's amazing how the opposition popped up right when that popped up. But listen, if I'm one of the other folks, I do understand why you would want to pause on that. Because you had two of the people involved, you had the commissioner who was taking the schools and the commissioner who was losing the schools in the same room, formulating this plan. So if you ask Greg sankey and I know you have, he's going to say I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I can concentrate on membership of my conference and concentrate on my duties as one of the commissioners who manages the college football playoff and was put on this subcommittee. That's what his answer would be. I don't blame the other commissioners for kind of side eyeing that. But the thing is, if you boil it all down, the plan they came up with is the best plan for the PAC 12, which needs expansion for the big 12, which needs expansion for the group of 5, which needs expansion for the ACC, which if Clemson doesn't get good again, really needs expansion. And for the Big Ten and the SEC, which would do really well with a lot of that largest. So again, I fail to see where anybody loses in this deal and they all make a ton more money. So again, I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. I feel compelled to ask you about something you've said twice now. And I'm really curious because I'm wondering the same thing. And it's only one of the absolute premier programs in the country that we're referring to. And that's Clemson with all the changes losing another coordinator on the offensive side losing its storied defensive coordinator. Where do you think that program is right now, Andy? I'm not bailing on him yet. I do think it's funny that when Davos Sweeney finally takes a transfer it's a quarterback who was already there before with hunter Johnson. But listen, they've done really well over the years. They've shown that they can recruit that they can develop players. I understand why davo wants to hire from within and keep that culture the way it is because they've had a culture where people really want to play there. I mean, they hardly ever lose players to transfer unless it's over playing time and usually it's because they've already graduated and had a good time there and just really want to get some snaps on video. I don't predict the demise of the Clemson program. I'm not doing that. I think if they guess right with Kate club Nick, the 5 star quarterback they've got coming in, that they're right back where they were. But the ACC really needs that because I don't see Florida state doing that. Miami, maybe I'll do it Mario Cristobal. We'll see North Carolina. Could they do that? You're talking about you need somebody who can compete with the Alabama's in the Georgia's in the Ohio State. Clemson is the only one built to do that right now. So if they have another down year, that's going to be a problem for the ACC. Talking to Andy Staples, we were talking to Scott rabbi earlier about the LHC situation. It almost seemed impossible to gauge where we're a program is right now, especially that one with everything that is going on in the portal. I'm curious where you are right now on Brian Kelly and ill issue. Well, Brian Kelly's been successful everywhere he's been. I know a lot of people don't like him, but they don't call it feelings ball. It's football. He's been successful at grand valley state at central Michigan Cincinnati and at Notre-Dame. My guess is at LSU with every resource at his disposal, plus some really good players he's inheriting on the roster. He's got to do pretty well. Sometimes I think we overthink this. This guy has wanted every level. So I think he's going to win there. Now, will he reach the heights that Edwards run reached or that less miles reached? I think it's possible. I mean, he had Notre-Dame playing at a very high level where the job that the degree of difficulty for the Notre-Dame job is higher than the degree of difficulty for the LSU job, even if you are in the same division as Alabama and as Texas a and M so I think he's going to be just fine there. I know a lot of people say, well, I didn't like the way he acted at Notre-Dame or yelled at a lot of he's a football coach. You know, he's going to win at LSU because he's won everywhere. He has. And I want to ask you two weeks removed almost two weeks removed from Georgia winning. Other than fans being excited and jerseys being sold and a lot of exhaling, what has changed for Georgia moving forward? I don't know that anything's changed for Georgia. I do feel really bad for the fans of my Alma mater and the fans of auburn because what are they going to do now that they don't have the 1980 jokes anymore?.

"It is 27th of the month in case you were wondering and so far it looks like another college football bowl game has bit the dust. We're watching closely out in Arizona and it may not be the only one today. We've already had a couple over the weekend. Wayne is up next to hello Wayne. Hey, bob. I've been watching your show for quite a long time now. Thank you. It's a real good. You can get on there and hear anything from a really good conversation about football and to some kind of Jerry Springer or you know. That's the nature that's the name of the game here is to try to be as abstract as possible. Absolutely. But I got a little something for Dale. Tell him to quit complaining about what Alabama does and other colors quit working about. When the coach is going to retire because he's going to retire when he feels like he's not good. So have you ever have you ever heard anyone more obsessed with Alabama than Daryl in your life? Not that lives in Georgia. I feel badly for Daryl because this was supposed to be and maybe it's still will be. Still may have another shot. But the disappointment of Darrow is running buddy down in Georgia that they thought this was the moment and parole Nick Saban just won't give them their due. Yeah, I really think that even though, you know, we might get a chance to play George again. I think the outcome will still be the same. I think at least I think the build up will be different. I think everyone will be on the Alabama train this time. That is a prediction that I feel comfortable making. Thank you for the call. Fernando is up next in Arizona. Hello Fernando. Hey, how are you, Paul? Great. Thank you. Yeah, I am just listening to people and I'm watching the news, the national news, and I really hate the way this game is setting up for Alabama. It doesn't look favorable. It looks favorable. And I think we've, you know, or maybe a little overconfident. I mean, what are we 13 and a half point favorite? To win? Yeah. That's true. Now, Alabama, I mean, you can point to anything you want. They are not one of the great big favorites. Some of their worst losses have come as big favor. So they were pretty big favored against Ohio State. In the slot 7 years ago, and we all know about Texas a.m., but I think Cincinnati is a very difficult team to read because they really didn't play an Alabama like schedule and they did have a they did have their huge win over Notre-Dame and Alabama is for the best team in the country. He's been pretty erratic. Well, they've been dying to get in. Like the first year, a team like that has been in there. You don't think they're going to be ready? No, they will be. And everyone, everyone in the country will be pulling for them, which has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game. But I understand, I'm sure Saban is very concerned because he was at auburn the week before the SEC championship game. He tells how close that game was. Yeah. You know, he loved the Red Bull that was given to him. You know, we're giving them the rat boys on this year. No, you're right. Look at Albert. We had like a, you know, those little percentages don't help us either. You know, was it 91% chance we should, where does that come from? It is interesting that if you could go back and I'll include myself in the conversation of all the things that we all said going into the Georgia game and the second that game was over, they went out the window. They were just thrown out like yesterday's garbage. They still matter. I was on that was on TV the other day with somebody, and I was doing the usual, and he said, he countered back saying did you see how Alabama play this year? And the answer is obvious, yes. We also Alabama play 13 times. And about 70% of the time, they gave Alabama fans fits, even though they won all but one game. Well, they did. They get and you know, I mean the thing is, the game is set up perfectly for Cincinnati and it's terrible for Alabama. I mean, how do you get up with that team? I mean, you can say it all day long and all my business like that Andy Staples play. He was on there. He said, well, I think, and I'll never pick against him again. That's why he's picking Alabama now. But the thing is, you know, he was wrong before. When he think George? That's the situation where I borrowed my own rule because I decided over the last ten years to never go against Alabama, but what Andy said is true. It seemed obvious that Alabama was going to lose that game. And I know there isn't an Alabama fan in the world that believes that now, but many believe it at the time. We don't need to be looking what's going on in the Georgia Michigan game. Well, the good news Fernando is this. The Alabama game starts Friday at two 30 local time in Dallas in an Alabama. So nobody's going to be paying attention to what happens that night because the game will follow. But it is, I hear you. And it will be one of the themes of this week as we work our way to AT&T Stadium on Thursday. Let's take a break here. We have been through there's only been an hour. I guess when Daryl calls, it feels like time just stops. But we are one hour in. We'll talk to John, talk to you about the mindset of Alabama. He lives in Alabama, of course..

"Hold all of you here on a Monday as we begin to wrap up the year. It's great to have all of you with us and we sorry to have missed you last week, but the network was a little bit darker than usual. Lights were out, and we're happy to be back here. I hope you had a great Christmas. And we march on toward the new year with a lot to talk about. Let's get started. And how about this? O'Brien and maroon. Still expected to coach in the CFP, no Alabama players currently in COVID protocols. COVID unfortunately has been the story of the last couple of days in college football and pretty much every where else. But the teams in the CFP are looking very, very good. Anyway, Georgia is in Miami and feels a little bit different with Dan landing calling the plays for Georgia as he also double dips now the head coach at Oregon. Ball games, trouble everywhere, two more ball games have been canceled. I think this is now 5 games that have been affected, there have been replacements, but since you may have last looked at your news channel, the military bowl gone, Boston college in east Carolina. The ball gone SMU, Virginia, Hawaii, Memphis and Hawaii, the game was scrubbed last week. Of course, Texas a and M unable to play in its bowl game and there's some late stories developing about other games, but to CFP games are the ones that we are concentrating on most of this week. And they are in pretty good shape. Meanwhile, Dan landing is the new ducks coach show. We told you that before we took the break, he is in Miami, though. With the Georgia bulldogs. Andy Staples joining us shortly, John toldy from male dot com will also listen in on some of the press conferences at the CFP reminder. We will be in Dallas. I mean, we're planning on it. I don't think anything is guaranteed these days. But we are planning on being in Dallas on Thursday, getting you ready for the Alabama game, of course, as well as the Georgia game in Miami. We'll be going back and forth between Arlington and the orange bowl down in Miami. So that's where we are glad to have all of you back with us. The phone number has not changed in case you were forgotten. It's two four two 7 two 8 5 and actually is that phone number? No, 855-242-7285. I've already forgotten to spend so long. 8 5 5 two four two Paul and we'll always enjoy hearing from you. Why don't we dispense with the frivolity and get right to the calls? And say, hello to John first in Louisville. Hey, John, good afternoon. Hey, welcome back and you're off a week and you'll already got Alzheimer's. But at least you meet new people. As long as I remember your name because it's written in front of me, John, we're in good shape. Hey, Paul, you know, when you're gone, we get a better appreciation of you and the show in my daughter mention it. She said, you know, last Monday, Paul is not Andy, he gets fired. He said, no, no, and besides he part ways. Well, not you said the call. I didn't mention the big Donald tissue, but that's still heart hurts. Yeah. I know. Where's my name? It's not on the work schedule. Anyway, she said the interviews aren't as good and a lot of the mean girls were done. So it just wasn't the same show. But I said you'd be back this week. So I have two questions. First of all, will you be able to get the archbishop bomb before the end of the year? I'm glad you brought that up. I talked to archbishop Marino the other day, and we are talking to mark about that. We are going to have him on soon. The schedule this week is a little bit up in the air, but he will be on very soon. We'll give us a heads up day before. It's a segment. I think we all have very, very much appreciate. Second question is regarding the CFP coaches. We all know about the great coaches at George and Alabama. I'd love it if you could get an interview with Luke fickle. I never thought he got a fair chance at Ohio State and he's done a wonderful job. And then you've been really complimentary of Jim Harbaugh lately at least and I'm just fascinated. It's an all American quarterback heisen finalists, I think, 15 years in the NFL and in fact he coaching AFL. I think he went to playoffs three or four years, but I know the team was good last year, but I just love to hear from both those coaches. I think they've got fascinating backgrounds. Well, we will definitely work on that. We'll see if we can talk fickle in the dropping by on Thursday, hey, thank you, John. And all the best to your daughter. I appreciate her remembering me. Let's continue will is in North Carolina. Hello, will. Hey, Paul, good. Good, good that you're back. So thank you. I felt this even before we've been having these COVID issues and I mean everybody knows COVID down the faded, but I almost feel like there's too much downtime in between the end of the year and when both season gets kicked off, is there going to review issues in college football, I mean, it will be doing with COVID for the next few years. I don't see why we can't speed up both season by a week or so. You know, well, I agree with you. We go through this every single year. And the excitement in the momentum of the season just runs out of gas. And by the way, it's not coming. It's not. You're not going to feel it this week because it's too convoluted the way we do it. And even though we have arguably the two biggest games in college football this year, it doesn't feel like it because the great part about the regular season it builds to a crescendo and there are upsets and we had the championship games three and a half weeks ago and then it just goes off the map. And the one thing that I will say four or 5 years from now when we ever get to the 12 team playoff, it would be different then. But until then, we're going to get this. And forget COVID. COVID has nothing to do with it. I've covered college football for plenty of years that there was no other obstacle out there. And it's the same. And I'm not going to waste any more time talking about today, because nobody is listening and no one cares, but we wonder why the NFL has three times the ratings as college football and that's the reason. Yeah. Other than the Hilton stuff, I mean you're given an option given you're given in players and auction to opt out, which I mean, it's in their best interest, but to me, I'm a die hard fan, but I've lost interest out in everything else. So. Well, you're right. You do give a lot of opportunity for that. And thank you for the call. That's a big debate. And everyone has different opinions and will certainly listen to yours. But this year, more than any other year, you have so much change, the transfer portal, you have some teams that don't have a quarterback who have COVID issues who have injury issues who don't have coach coaches. I mean, Florida played a game the other day without a coach. We've seen we've seen other teams do it. College football in spite of what you'll hear over the next few days about what great shape it's in is in a world of confusion right now. We'll take a break. We'll talk about that with our next guest. Is Andy Staples from the athletic. He'll join us right after this. You are listening to the Paul find show podcast. Hello, everybody,.

"AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds at the network's basic restrictions and acceptance may apply. Watching a clip of Dan Mullen jousting with the media about the narrative of all the yards gained against Sanford Mullen talking about the significance of that, the media pushing back and Mullen saying that you guys may have already made up your mind. Well, let's talk about this with someone who tries to be objective. And that's Andy Staples, a great writer for the athletic and a great talk show host as well. Andy, I know you wrote a very significant piece recently on Dan Mullen, so I'll sit back and let you explain what you have been seeing down there. And maybe where this state of the program is right now. Well, Paul, you just heard me, 'cause I'm the one who said, but you realize that was against samford and you have to consider that as well as part of the story. And Dan says, well, that's your narrative. Well, my narrative includes all the context. You know, those guys always get mad at us saying we cherry pick the facts and leave out context. Well, if you're gonna talk about Emory Jones setting a record and how many yards through four and start comparing them to Tim Tebow, well, yeah, Tim Tebow set the all time single game yardage Mark. I believe in the sugar bowl against Cincinnati. Cincinnati team, I think that was undefeated at the time and had finished in the top 5. It was not against Sanford and it was not where the starter was in the game against Sanford because Florida had to score at least 53 points to win because they gave up 52 to samford. So that's where they're at. So now, I do not blame Dan Mullen for what he says about celebrating. Because yes, you should celebrate everyone. He's right. You should absolutely celebrate everyone. And I thought he said it very well when he said, I'll celebrate any win and I've never celebrated a loss. Like when they lost to Alabama by two. He wasn't celebrated. And so I think that's perfectly fair what he said. But the problem is, he's sort of played himself into a corner here. Because he can't really say anything overly critical publicly about the team right now, because I mean, you saw the way they played in South Carolina. You saw the way they played against Stanford. I mean, they look pretty ready to pack it in. So if you start bashing them publicly, well, they can just pack it in against Missouri and Florida state and be done with this whole thing. But so I get that. But the problem is when he says stuff like that when he tries to make Florida fans believe that what they saw on Saturday was some great thing. Well, they're insulted by that. So that's the problem. He's sort of between a rock and a hard place here. Andy, not to reiterate exactly all that happened Saturday, but in a nutshell for those who were not watching, and that would include a lot of people because there was no reason going into watch. What happened? What did you see, especially from the Florida defense? It was a game where neither defense could stop the other offense. There were very few stops in the first half. Florida's defense finally came around midway through the third quarter and that's when it sort of settled down and then began to look like an SEC team against an FCS team. But the first half, it was just up and down the field, both directions. And remember, Florida had justifier had just fired Tod defense coordinator. And this was a move that the fans have been pushing for for a long time. Dan Muller had been resistant to do it. They fired him after South Carolina because I suppose the volcano must be fed. So they fired ran them and John hevesy, the longtime offensive line coach, who's been with Dan Mullen since both of them work for urban Meyer back at Bowling Green. So they make that move with grantham and the thought is okay the defense will get better. Well, it turns out, maybe grant them was the one keeping the defense from being worse. It may be that they don't have the personnel. I mean, you probably should have known that when you watch the LSU game, when LSU's running the same couple of concepts over and over and nobody can win a one on one match up, that's what that tells you. That's why what happened against South Carolina happened? That's what Missouri will try to exploit with Tyler Beatty. That's what Florida state will try to exploit with Jay star Corbin. So that's the issue they're running into is I don't know that there's a fix to that right now. And the problem is it's gotten so far along, I'm not sure what Dan Mullen can do to bring it back, because it's not like he's sitting on a top 5 recruiting class that you can say, well, you can't get rid of me because I've got this class coming in. He doesn't even have that. So he's going to have to work some magic here these next two weeks. This is it. Oh, let's talk about reality versus all of us throwing opinions against the wall..

"Program is getting better and it's getting better the right way. Yeah, no, I won't Dan Mullen's stay in Florida. Believe you me, I want him to stay there. I'd like for Jimbo to leave, I think I'd like to get a crack at some of the 5 star wall Nolan. Mike, I'll tell you something else. I had the opportunity to visit with the Chancellor. She came by an event that I was. And is that donda ploughman? Yeah, I never met her before. I knew of her. I told her I was speaking to the school newspaper group, and she came in to surprise me. And I said, I'll say this publicly, what I said to those young journalists, I said, this is a Chancellor here that you should be proud of because she did something that takes a lot of guts. She showed integrity in saying what she did about Jeremy Pruitt. I know there has been disagreement, of course. But I think Tennessee is charting a new course with her and with Josh hypo. And I'm not saying that guarantees anything because I still think there's some dark roads ahead because of the NCAA mess, but my hope is that the NCAA is so incompetent and so inept that it will drag on long enough for Tennessee to build itself back and maybe find some ammunition to get to get appreciated for having done the right thing as opposed to be squirrelly like most schools. Yeah, now the NCAA has kind of been neutered by now as we all know and they're losing a lot of power and agency by the day. So you have a plowman in the AD. They've invested in the baseball coach at Tennessee. They're giving him the money, Rick Barnes is crushing it at Josh highball is built our brand up. I mean, we were the laughing stock relaying for Jeremy Peru at for the mustard thing. And I told you a couple weeks ago I said look, if we go into Kentucky healthy and when that game, a lot of that stuff is going to be forgetting, we should go 7 and 5 in a decent bowl game. So it's a win win. Mike, I think it will be, thanks for the call. I think it would be better than just a run of the mill bowl game for this reason. That Tennessee fans are so hungry that if you put Tennessee in the same boat with Florida, assuming they get to a ball game. Auburn, I think Tennessee will be more attractive because they will they will take they will take a lot more fans. They'll be energetic. Appreciate, appreciate the call very, very much. We'll take a break. More to come right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Sonos is the official sponsor of ESPN college football. Bring the stadium experience.

"To have Andy Staples with us as we reach the midpoint of the college football season. Andy so good to have you on and I don't know if you always hate to stay start with the most obvious question, but what are you intrigued by right now as we head into the weeks week 7 of the college football season? Good afternoon. I'm intrigued by a lot, especially in the SEC this weekend because how does Alabama bounce back at Mississippi state and what can be a pretty tough environment, I guess a defense that has defense people call it kind of like the triple option of defenses. It's one of those. You've got to be pretty careful in terms of preparation. And so how does that offense recover? Because it was as surprised I wasn't how Zack calzada just came on and kind of blossomed before our eyes in that Alabama game. I was also surprised at how well Texas a and M got to Bryce young and how much they disrupted Alabama's offense and got pressured. So what has been to be taken? That's a good defense with pretty good up front, very good corners. Are they going to be able to keep Alabama scoring down or is Alabama going to be able to fix some of the things that we're playing against? And that one and then obviously Florida LSU because I think a lot of circumstances and with most ADs and most situations, that game at Kentucky would have been it for at orser on, but I know Scott Woodward has not fired a coach. This season yet, I didn't do it with ty willingham. He didn't do it with Kevin someone. And also, they don't, there's not an obvious interim. I know it's Mickey Joseph. If you go to the organizational chart. But that doesn't seem like the easiest thing to do. So if Florida comes in there and wins the way Vegas is predicting they will and 11 a.m. local start could be a few empty seats at Tiger stadium. If that happens, do you do it then? Because it sure seems like it's a fade accompli at this point. Man, I love it when somebody uses words like that. And my question, though, and this is just technical, but with one more game before the bye week, do you think losing to Florida at home would pretty well wrap it up or because the old mis trip would be a fader comply, wouldn't it? Yeah, here's the thing. LSU still has enough talent, even though they've lost some of their best players. I mean, the Eli rix things just yet another blow. But there's still talented enough to beat most of the teams left on the roster under the right circumstances, but it's almost like the moon and stars are going to have to align for that to happen. It's actually somewhat. It feels a little similar Paul. Remember it's going into the Florida game last year where that was when Eric Gilbert lost the team that week and they lost a bunch of guys before that. And they sort of galvanized the team. And I kind of wonder, does that do they have a similar thing here? Watching the Kentucky game, I don't know, it's hard to predict that. I don't necessarily see that. But I don't know if it matters when at this point. I just, I'm a big, if you got to do it eventually you got to do it immediately kind of person, Jeremy foley at Florida used to say that. I believe Henry Kissinger coined it. But I just, I don't you kind of run the risk of something weird happening. If you don't do the thing, you were going to do eventually. LSU has a history of this, not with Scott Woodward, but back when Joe oliva wanted to fire less miles in 2015, he floated out there, it gets written about and locally, it's all anybody could talk about. And if you talk to somebody from Louisiana during that period, it was like, oh yeah, they're going to far less miles. They should have fired in years ago. And then that last week when you get to the Texas a and M game, it starts to go national and everybody nationally is like, why would you fire less miles? What are you thinking? And he gets carried off on everybody's shoulders and now you're stuck with less miles for other off seasons when you're going to fire him anyway. And sure enough he got fired four games into the next year. So I don't think you leave the door open for weirdness. If you know what you're going to do. Understand. And losing, what would that be three straight losses, two at home, for four overall? There's really nothing left to figure out after that. Is there? No, I don't think so. I mean, and people will say, well, I can't believe you would fire somebody two years after winning a national title. It happened at auburn. When it happened at auburn, what happened next, auburn won the SEC and was 30 seconds away from winning a national title. So they made the right choice in that situation. And it I realized it's harsh and they did just win a national title, but you should be really good at LSU every year. Like that's the baseline. Really good is the baseline. And if you can't do that too bad years in a row.

"70% of those guys never returned. So all I'm saying is, I don't think this is right for college football. If a player goes down and it's my son, the stadium's booing them. Nobody does outraged better than James Franklin's. For now, still the Penn State coach. Let's get to the guest list and then your phone calls, Andy Staples, always good for some chuckles. Steven a Smith is not on the show today, but Steven M is, I've been mazell returns after a long absence and champ Bailey. He's a Hall of Famer in both college and pro ball. He's a Georgia great. We'll get his take on the big weekend and the dogs. And your phone calls, 8 5 5, two four two 7 two 8 5. Let's begin with Kyle, who is in Alabama, hello, Kyle. All right. Quite well. Thank you. Well, they were talking about the injuries in the ten states, they can injuries and the pain of saying, our game, you can go back to the Texas a and M Alabama game. Texas a and MP 50 players were falling down after Alabama, I got 6 and 7 yard gangs. And then the very next play, they were just running back onto the field like nothing happened. So I mean the coach and all of them have a point about the players faking injuries and all that because I may see it a lot now. So the only way that stuff like that's going to get fixed is if they change the rule where the player has to sit out for a couple more plays, if they tend to take injuries like that because Texas a and M was doing it all night. They were faking injuries left and right, coming right back into the back on the field, but that's still not excuse for a while much to lose the football game. And then, you know, Paul, you was on the show the other day with miss Heather, talking about y'all had bet the house on Alabama not making the play? Did I hear that correctly? Well, let me explain. The segment was introduced as would you bet your house on Alabama being in or out of the playoffs? I would never bet my house on anything. So I mean, that's a little bit hyperbolized, but yeah, we did say what you heard us say, though. Right. These rankings are really don't mean nothing to me that I mean, Alabama steel controls their own destiny. They got to win out and then play. That's great. That's where we have watching and listening right now. So in your heart of hearts, you believe Alabama will still make it to the playoffs. If Alabama can just get to it, and we all know that Georgia will choke it away. They choke it away every time they play Alabama or whether it be in Atlanta or whether it be on second and 26 for the national championship all. Everybody knows Georgia can't close the deal and on the Dallas Cowboys fan also. And you know, George is just like the Dallas Cowboys. They roll through the season, but when it gets to the playoffs and it gets to the big games, they'll choke it away. Roll fireball. Pat is up next in Georgia. Hey pat. Hey, Paul, thanks. I beg to differ on that. However, I have a double heartier repair this morning and I'm on pain pills and ice, but talking to you for a few minutes is the best medicine. So here goes. Well, thank you. By the way, if today shows like yesterday, I may meet I may need some of that pain medicine to get through the end of it. Absolutely. Absolutely. Listen, I think I'm all in on Georgia and you are too, and I think it'll be, I don't know. 35, 38 to ten Saturday. And Georgia is going to make it all the way to the natty. I think Alabama is is still in control of its own destiny, okay. It's still next segment and it's still Alabama. And I think we're going to meet him in the SEC championship and I think Kirby's going to beat Nick this year. And that will that will probably put them out of the natty. Your thoughts? Yeah, everything is based on today. Pat and a week ago, I probably would have disagreed, but you can not argue with what George is doing. It's historic. And we're not even really seeing their best effort on offense yet. And I think that will still to come. Ron is up next in Kentucky. Hey Ron. Hey, how you doing, Paul? Ron, what a pleasure to hear your wonderful voice. Well, thank you so much. It has been a while, but my goodness, I'm on cloud 9 being the oldest UK fan of all you're listening and viewing audience. Okay, just for the 5. How old are you? I am 86, Paul. And you're the one. I have been a just a few years my senior, didn't you challenge me to like a race or something that long ago? I did. Paul and I just competed in the Kentucky singer Olympic Games and came away with ten gold medals in track and field and you have agreed to race me in the 100 meter dash and I'm looking forward to..

I remember another one telling us. Lsu was going eleven there wont was buried so because his law. I don't know tall guys getting paying these analysis. And it's clear that bias against alabama clearly making them look stupid as hail. I mean i'm not going to get on national. Tv or radio and say the kansas city chiefs all have a chance against the jaguars other tag wires. They're going to beat the cheese. These so called experts can look at rosters. Hey look at lineups. What Could a College Football Super League Look Like?
"I wanna talk about the super league. Right to the super league takes over Soccer and for forty eight hours eight hours and now it's gone. It's a thing of the past. It was a nice wispy thing. It's like at the end of forrest. Gump it's a little feather. They just flies up and just goes away and then the super league is gone forever but it did cancer. The imagination is a pretty much fans of every other sport who came up with their own superleague for their sport. Now this happened a lot in college football as the lazy among us decided to just do a super league not me. I have the super. Oh kaley coming out. But so the super league proposed by andy staples he has. Let's see fifteen teams only team all right. Well there was only twelve. Or i think there's only twelve in the super league. Now they were gonna eventually get the twenty. they're starting with twelve broke alias. Twenty-five i liked this

Patriots Knocked Out of Playoff Race for First Time Since 2008
"Patriots who i said would not make the playoffs are not making the playoffs here. Is bill belichick with this loss. You guys were eliminated from playoff contention first time since a wave. Just wondering your reaction to that does that. We win deserve to win tonight. So yeah pretty much. So and i started look at cam. Newton's numbers. Because if i'm new england do i play jarrett stidham the last two games. Do i want to see what i have do. They know what they have do. I just ride this out. And have cam newton as my starting quarterback in his last seventeen starts so this goes back two years cam. Newton has thrown. in seventeen games. Five touchdown passes twelve interceptions. He is had almost five hundred throws over those seventeen games. Peter king points out in his column today. Aaron rodgers has had four hundred seventy seven pass attempts through the same time period. He's thrown forty touchdowns cams thrown five. And i know coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his rotator cuff and for those of us who've had rotator cuff surgery just coming back for a normal life. Not trying to fit a football into a small window is really difficult. And i don't think cam has come all the way back from kovin that but cam. We're not going to see cam twenty fifteen. Never gonna come close to. That can still be a quarterback who starts in the nfl. Is he a quarterback who is going to be a backup quarterback. And i think that's going to be the next step to decide what happens with the patriots. What direction they go in to the go after quarterback do they keep cam. Do give him more. Money is jarrett stidham as that experience experiment over as
