"I'm not familiar studies, which is like a owned by the same thing previously were owned by the same key, They only think he comes I'm sorry, but it's like a journalism school and and it led me down. The opportunity with the same few times to kind of cover High School sports and there are people like Mike Stevenson who you know, maybe people haven't heard of these was a sports editor year, but he was like really influential but then there was other people like when I was in college and UF Sal paolantonio now one of my it's crazy to call them appear home. I don't know that peers right we're there but you know, you came to my school and spoke and I remember being inspired by that. So it's all different different types of people different types of influence, but she could always really important to me you've gotten an interview, you know, some of the biggest names in sports and football like real real Legends and you get just awesome genuine answers from them. How do you think that how do you think you were able to gain the respect from these athletes good question. I think two two things sort of I think of led me there. First of which is it's funny when we talk about, you know going from, New Jersey. Is talking about covering High School sports to to interviewing Tom Brady, but there actually is a real important threat. Therefore. I think people to remember which is like a human element. I find when I talked to Patrick Mahomes, I really don't I don't want to treat it any different and I don't think I do then when I used to cover, you know, Brian Fowler who went to my high school, you know football player back in high school. Like I just don't think it's that different because I think that there's a human element that exists and while still being respectful towards the achievements of these other athletes. I think the second you start to talk to them like people and maybe you know respect them as humans you start to get human answers off if you're doing an interview with someone like Patrick Mahomes what's like your preparation? What's your kind of process for that? So it's funny cuz generally back I was right off. More when I used to write for like the Miami Herald you do a feature interview your kind of just you want to create a conversation that leads to anecdotes so you can be much less than a prepared as the right word because you can just kind of string it out a little bit but when you're doing these TV interviews and you've got you know cameras all over the room and they put out the, you know, The Clapper and say oh excellent, for example, you know that's going to suck a lot of the ability to be kind of spontaneous out of the room you have to sort of prepare for that. So you're also usually on a pretty strict timelines. So, I mean, I'm definitely creating questions. That that I think will best lead to anecdotes, you know being strategic about the questions I asked and think okay, if I ask Patrick Mahomes off, you know, how important is it for you to be MVP. I know his answer is going to be well it's a team game and I'd rather win a Superbowl than an MVP. If you can predict that then you shouldn't ask the question. So I think like going through that down size in your mind of if I ask this question. What is the likely answer? And if you don't know the likely answer, it's probably a pretty good question what other kind of tips do you have with your questioning? And what makes a good interview. First of all, of course being open-ended, right? You know the old that's you know on a rule number one, right? Don't ask yes or no question, but I just think that like going back to that anecdotal aspect of it like I don't know just leading them to a place where they're more interested to tell a story. I had it with Andy Reid over over the Super Bowl before the week before the Superbowl was I was doing the zoom interview wage and read and we were talking about like the history of the Chiefs and how he has started taking on a let players create plays for him and I was like what am in your past ever LED you to be willing to like let people sort of just create a play like that and in the question ended up a little this response from him that he explained that he was in Green Bay as the offensive coordinator and there was a janitor who walked past his office every day and he his head instead. I got a play for you and like the third practice like every week or so. He would do it the third year and he said, you know, what here's a here's a card right? You're play down and let's take a look at it and he did and he's like, you know. Good work and you gives the plane of Mike Holmgren that week is the head coach of the time who then calls the play and you said the janitor is in the corner of the endzone to play works the gender jumping up and down like that's my thoughts. Nobody believes them. But in read alternately walked away from that thing, you know, what like everybody's got an idea and and that actually led to the way we completely constructive or teacher story which going into the interview. I had no idea that that was going to take place. I think if you can ask those questions that sort of Just create anecdotal opportunities for your interview subjects. And I think that you'll be surprised how much not only how much better the quality of the answers will be dead. But how much easier it becomes to tell the story when you have such a good anecdote to kind of tie it to what do you love about this job? Like where is your passion come from here? Oh God, so I'm not like a football head like I I love football. Like don't get me wrong like I love the sport and I've always loved it. Yeah, but like I definitely would describe my I feel like you know the movie Office Space from the guys like I'm a people person. Yeah, I feel a little bit weird saying it but I think that that's that's sort of my one of my better off. He's like, I think that's you know, I'm not like the smartest guy in the room. I'm not By no means a stout. You know, I'm more just like a guy I think who can talk to people and maybe get them to sort of trust their story with me. And I think that that's wrong. To me is you know, like that's probably what I love the most about this is when you can get someone to really be willing to do to kind of open up to you. Yeah, how just how special is that when you're doing an interview and just trying to get comfortable with the person and then, you know, you just can tell that moment comes where they really open up to you. You know what it's funny because it's like not something again the authenticity of that should not like like it's not supposed to be by nature of the hook. Like I'm not trying to get them to trust me so that I can get the best answer because that in itself is sort of contradictory and and disingenuous and I remember So I was at the Palm Beach post was like my first year covering the NFL was 2006 September 2005 and there was this guy coming any rights and he was Nick same thing is only headline to that point. There's a USU defensive line. Nick Saban made him cry during practice and a few months later when I went up 5-4 many right lived and I was like twenty-five or something and end up going into this neighborhood and I saw that he lived there but on the place where he was supposed to live there was a for rent sign took place have been cleaned out and I saw him pulling into the neighborhood and I I turn around and I try to follow to see where he was going and they you know, those Sushi menus they put on the doors wage to walk around the neighborhood. Yeah. Yeah. I decided that the best way to find him was to knock on all the doors where there wasn't a sushi menu. That means I'm just came home nice. So I get to it door and he answers it and he was at his sister's place and we talked for a little bit and he tells me about his depression and how he wants to be traded from because he doesn't feel like to understand him and he starts to cry in front of me and I remember driving away from his house excited and happy that this guy had just shared this story and cried with me or tried to me and I remember all of a sudden also being like disgusted with myself. Like you're not supposed to be excited about someone else's play. Even if it means success for your own career and.

Chiefs matriarch, now 82, will continue Super Bowl streak

"Under head coach Andy Reid the Kansas City Chiefs have one thing in mind when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl fifty five on Sunday make it two in a row read knows this is a special game obviously historic game from the standpoint that there's never been a home team that's played at their own facilities so I I think that's a unique situation the defending champion chiefs high powered offenses equipped to do just that having averaged four hundred fifteen yards per game during the regular season including over five hundred against the same Buccaneers just a couple months ago Patrick Mahomes will have plenty of weapons at his disposal with the receiving corps led by Tyreek hill and a ground game topped by Clyde Edwards Hilaire I'm Tom Aikens

Chiefs place Robinson, Kilgore on COVID-19 list

"This coming down. Just moments ago. Adam schefter saying the chiefs placing center daniel kilgore and wide receiver demarcus robinson on the reserve covid nineteen list due to close contact. You see diana receive their. She's been covering the chiefs all week long diana. They didn't address this. Kobe news because it came up right at the end of media day. But you were talking to all of them throughout so tell us what you learned. Yeah well. I gotta give a lot of credit to this. Kansas city chiefs team who are in kansas city missouri. Twelve hundred miles away from where the super bowl action is all going down starting today and these guys were having a lot of fun they were bringing the energy this virtual so it's very hard to have a lot of energy and to have fun but they did a really good job laura. Let's start with the most important thing i learned. And that's andy. Reid is going to have a double cheeseburger waiting for him at the end of the game. If they win if you remember he had one last year. That was the meal he ate after. They want kidding. That's not the most important thing but something that did stand out with. Patrick mahomes was talking about. When tom brady met up with him after the afc championship game. Two years ago remember the chiefs lost at arrowhead and our jeff jolly was actually down on the ground and he was the one who spotted this. He saw tom. Brady walk over to a security guard and asked to talk to. Patrick mahomes the security guard. A little surprise like okay. I'll figure it out for you. Well he was able to find him a little room in the equipment room. And that's when they brought patrick in radiant ham had a conversation. Take a listen to what patrick learned about it for me. I think it was important because it showed that. I was doing things the right way as a young quarterback in this leading You you gotta go in he or early trying to put it in the time and the work But you don't really know until you get to that that that spot of where you wanna be at Losing an afc championship game. Obviously i didn't get to the super bowl. But then him tell me anything kind of just just saying that he respected what i was doing and how i was planning filming the type of person that i was A kind of best on me to go any new better In order to get the super bowl which we did last year. And i'll just trying to keep improving and keep getting better every single day. We asked andy read about it. He said he didn't enter. Didn't see the conversation. But he said he heard about and he was obviously very grateful. That brady took that time to talk to his young quarterback but re did make a point With the reporters today to say that they are so happy. There in missouri no distractions very few media obligations. It's all football. Football football are

"Cody. Thanks for coming back on. I in the enemy man. How are you. I'm doing great great to be with you. I'm excited to talk some football absolutely and let's jump right in to the eagles. Coaching search here. Because more names get added to this list everyday to say that the eagles have cast a wide net would be understating it a little bit. You tweeted out. And i think it was either yesterday or today but as a recording. This on the fourteenth is was on the thirteenth. You tweeted out a whole list of names. We've got carolina offensive coordinator. Joe brady tennis offensive coordinator arthur smith san francisco defensive coordinator robert soleil tampa bay defensive coordinator. Todd bowles new england linebackers coach. John mayo kansas city quarterbacks coach mike kafka philadelphia assistant head coach do staley oklahoma head coach lincoln riley ohio state head coach ryan day. Cincinnati head. Coach luke fickle and more are coming each and every day and i know among eagles fans. You know we see this as a pretty dysfunctional team right now. We see this as an organization. That doesn't seem to know exactly what they're doing and we're skeptical as to whether or not a a really high profile coach is going to want to come here given the list of names here. Where are you at on this eagles. Coaching search as there really are just getting started right. Now yeah and we saw it just kellen more added today and obviously you know they're going to continue to cast the net and i think just in general. I think there's a little merit to the idea that you know when you compare openings. The eagles aren't A bursting with attraction just because of the situation. I mean Doug peterson clearly. If the reports are to be believed is is kind of worn down from from this run with eagles. And but i honestly don't put too much stock into this idea that they're undesirable because at the end of the day there's thirty two jobs. There's thirty two head. Coaching jobs in the nfl. We see guys in view with with teams like the jets and the jaguars every coaching cycle. Yes they sometimes have high picks so they sometimes have a lot of cap space but at the end of the day. It's nfl fell head coaching job. You can't tell me you know if you're joe brady and you're getting interest from all these teams. I mean you're not going to just not going to turn down the opportunity and so And eventually some of the spots are gonna get filled For me i mean i. I start for the eagles with looking at the offensive side of the ball. I know that's it's a big talking point. Jeffrey lurie with with you know really any eagles fan. That's been under or watching. Jeffey larry hires run. The team I i think really it comes down to are you going for You're gonna have to sacrifice somewhere. Because with somebody like joe brady even kellen moore. You're really banking on them. Being kind of an offensive mastermind and up and coming mastermind as opposed to this Person who's been around the league for years and respected and you know doug peterson even though he didn't have head coaching experience. Jeffrey loria himself talked about that emotional intelligence he talked about. Doug peterson former quarterback. In this league he had time under andy reid and so i. I think it's just a matter of where are they gonna sacrifice. Because if they go with robert. Sal the forty niners you're sacrificing. You might bring in a nice offensive coordinator with them but he may leave here for another head coaching job. And so what do they want. We're gonna find out.

Las Vegas Raiders face 'daunting task' with COVID-19 issues ahead of game vs. Kansas City Chiefs

"Kid city chiefs at eight point favorite leg. I said we'll get to that in a second on the road against the vegas raiders on this game. Fifty six and a half. We will have. John cheering on later. I'm sure he'll be able to explain whether slightly above the market pain. i have to believe. That's all covid related to be quite honest. The raiders defense in the contact tracing protocol. We're not quite sure. If i'm going to have to get called up to play safety and let me tell you my foot speed not enough to slow down tyreek hill and open spaces really wouldn't say i mean i might try and slew coming off the line. That'd be my only shot. so listen. I the raiders offensive game plan back in week five was good. Obviously but the halftime adjustments that. Paul guenther in the raiders. Defensively really is what i think won them the game. It's really what gave the chiefs offense trouble. You really hadn't seen that from the chiefs offense before during this. Patty mahomes like run especially against the defense of that caliber. You go back to week. Five in the second half. Kansas city was successful. Only twenty one percent of their snaps. One point to carry twenty eight percent success rate through their moms is pressured. A ton the raiders. Were able to do something in that game. They hadn't been able to do most of the season which is get pressure vegas. Twenty six on the season pass rush win rate and then obviously after a few good games. Recently where the raiders have been able to apply some pressure to quarterbacks. They've surged to an average defense in pressuring the week. Five game if you look at some of these numbers. Mahomes was pressured on forty. Seven percent of total dropbacks specifically from eleven personnel. Were kansas city. Essentially lives seventy three percent of the time moms pressured on fifty seven percent of those three wide sets. I would envision off the bye with the little extra motivation of not. Just losing to the raiders but but kansas city not being really happy about gruden and the gang taken victory laps around the the stadium there drivers using using the loudspeaker thereafter the week. Five win that Andy reid is probably gonna come with a pretty good game plan here and you know past the success that andy. Reid is hat off the bye. You mentioned this. The raiders are are probably going to be without a few key defenders but You know another handful of defensive players are going to miss practice all week due to this contact tracing. It's probably isn't the offense that you wanna face short handed in in pissed off and not having practiced to four. I would think. I also believe we'll probably see a little more play action for mandatory. You know patty mahomes in the chiefs past game will probably fair little bit. Better here with play action. Especially if if the pressure starts to barrel down. I would also think that it's worth mentioning that three chiefs offensive lineman or on the cova the list it's believed to be contact tracing but we'll have to see this certainly make this game a little bit different. If if all three of those offensive lineman are out. You also expect sammy. Watkins to return in this game us a full practice participant on wednesday so he should be a full ghost that they're gonna have their their complement of weapons out there. The number in this thing is is really interesting. But i think that this tougher makes a lot of sense. I i just don't see. Kansas city's offense not bouncing back here in a major way talk. i mean. They're playing with a chip on their shoulder. Which is always dangerous to begin with. We've seen their passing offense. That was more a work in progress. Probably the nicest way to put it early on in the season and no doubt that was by design. Get on track with mahomes during for more than eight hundred yards the last two games when you look at the way. Mahomes performed against the raiders. Fifteen total touchdowns just two interceptions one of them of course coming earlier this year the chiefs loss as a double digit home favor and i think it's pretty staggering to know what costs kansas city. That game is the fact that hey look. They finished a net negative minus sixty four in terms of rushing yards. The raiders held the ball for nearly eleven minutes longer and kansas city knows that they can hit the home runs. That are widely available. If they keep mahomes operate i think. The raiders passing defenses. You mention it may trending in the right direction. There's no doubt a lot of optimism out here around the raiders especially on the defensive side of the ball. This is a different beast that they're going to try and counter and with sammy watkins back amongst others. I just don't know where the raiders consistently find a way to get off the field. I agree with that. And i get it. You have to young corners in trayvon mullin in our net and people are thinking to themselves like. Hey we're trending in the right direction. We're starting to get some pressure. Would you look you play at the browns. The total is suppressed because of weather and wind. You're at the chargers. It's likely a a lost game. If two guys can hold onto football on the back corner fate and then the broncos last week and drew lock was clearly injured after taking a hit in the second quarter but you could have been trailing at halftime in that game so listen. I think the raiders are better than we all expected. You look at who they've lost to. It's it's the bills box and patriots. All pretty good teams obviously bucks in bills being very good patriots. You know with bill tough spot. There is well off the monday night game traveling across the country. So i get the by of the raiders. I just need to see more defensively to believe it's real and so that that's kind of where i'm out on that unit. I fully expect kansas city to do some good things here. Offensively

Chicago Bears: Matt Nagy handing over play-calling duties

"And let's see if the bears moving offensive coordinator duties will be money on the field tonight. Normally it's mad nagy their head coach. He's been offensively inclined. That's why the bears hired him away from kansas city where he was working under andy reid but with the bear struggling. They're handing over play calling duties to bill laser. He's been in the nfl for a while. We'll get into his bio in just a second to see what you can expect on monday night football when the bears. The bears take on the vikings. Here's matt nagy essentially saying. I didn't really want to do this. But i've been around long enough to know i kind of had to do this. I've been around. Obviously one of the greatest head coaches in the history of this game and coach reid and of the best play callers in the history of this game co treat reid and for me in that time where he was able to show the trust in me at that point to give it to me to to run the offense and call the plays there was a little bit of a change and sometimes when you're in this position that we're in right now you wanna make sure that you're looking for solutions and you know you can always talk about execution. You can always talk about teaching. You can always talk about all facets of the game but this year with me going through that and seeing what can come from it. I just think it's it's the right thing to do. And we'll see where it goes. Laser been a longtime. Nfl assistant key the eagles the bengals. The dolphins is actually the oc for the dolphins for a couple years falcons washington football team seattle in more subordinate position. So he's been around the block. Tell me what this means i. It just means dead the pressures on in whenever you see a coach head coach playcaller give up play calling duties this late in the season. That tells you the pressures on in conversations have been had that they've got to figure out another way to generate points because clearly the will matt nagy calling. The plays was not working and if he continued to call the plays and continue to go the way that has been going. There's a large chance of the possibility that he may not be retained after the season. So he's trying to fix it before they get to that point which is smart on his part. I mean look when you go to. This is when you go to this. This is the last stop right. this is right. This is the last stop. We gotta turn it around because if we don't chances are i'm going to have for sale sign point in january in front of my house on the the reality of what they have to make the playoffs in your expectation for matt. Nagy not to lose his job i would. I would think so. But i'm but i'm not the owner of the team but i would say that for the general manager matt nagy to be back with me and twenty twenty one. They've got to get to the playoffs especially we started off with a quarterback that we drafted several years ago. It was the second pick in the first round. We went away from him. We listened to you by going out and getting nick foles and now we missed the playoffs. I can't bring you back.

"The first place Kansas City Chiefs playing an airline stadium yesterday on paper pretty sizable favorite against the Carolina Panthers. This one turned into a tussle. She's kind of got off to a slow start on offense did not score a touchdown in the 1st 26 minutes of this game, you need to get the offense in gear a little bit by the second half. Chiefs did have things moving pretty well. Course You heard the game live. Mitch holders had the call Right here on 98 7 and 13 37 45 to go in the game. Hardman spinning in motion. They faked the Jets sweep right side the right front Pilon touchdown. Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes, four touchdown passes 101 in his career, the fastest in National Football League history, doing so in his 40th game to reach that benchmark and the Chiefs with a Ph. D can go back up to scores. Yeah. Pat Mahomes 100 touchdown passes now in his career. And that record had been around since Dan Marino said it 34 years ago. He was the one who got to that the quickest after Pat Mahomes, But geese were locked in a close game and the Carolina Panthers have the ball at the end with a chance to beat the Chiefs. Now they're going to try a field goal. This would be an NFL record field goal to win the game. This will be a 67 yard attempt to win the game. By Joey slide. It would be a National Football League record, She said. To be careful to hold a water slide, big leg kick is up, and it is good water is good. "Patrick Mahomes. Eyes 23 years old, Okay, He's got three touchdown passes in the first half of this game in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson League MVP is 25. Great quarterback. He doesn't have a touchdown past. Nor is he rushed for one scores. 27 10 in favor of Kansas City and Baltimore was a 3.5 point favorite going into that game. So, Casey, you've got your quarterback and you got a great coach Andy Reid and that ladies and gentlemen, is what you call playing big in front of a big time national audience, even though there's no crowd there, Westwood one radio is there. Again. Baltimore is the favorite and a half 27 10 Kansas City leading now to the ice, Tampa Bay and Dallas of Tampa Bay wins tonight they win. That trophy, the Stanley Cup and right now they're in the second period, and Tampa Bay is leading Dallas to nothing. So by the end of this evening, we will know whether or not they will play a game seven. In the Stanley Cup war of Tampa Bay. The Lightning have become the Stanley Cup champions for 2020 and that Monday night football game again. 27 10 halftime Kansas City leading Baltimore. That's a shock to me. I just thought Lamar Jackson People have said, You know, he hasn't played big in the playoffs in the past. You know this guy's a great player, even though there's no home fans there. They still are in Baltimore. There, the favored. I thought he was not over yet, but I thought he would have come out with a much better first half performance. Patrick Holmes, I knew he would be good. It never ceases to amaze me. Three touchdown passes in that first half pretty incredible. 27 10 in favor of Kansas City.

"Question. How did he do? Okay. So here's the thing about Joe Brown. This is why I think you like him so much. Oh, it's a really great quarterback that just plays hockey team. So he's like your deck Prescott your a bitch. I thought you were like the light bulb in my head went off last night when I was watching it. I was like, well, he's a good little quarterback like Dak Prescott. He just plays for no wonder Jasmine likes them so much. By the way, I have you know you Optimus Prime Don the word shity so it cut out on you said shity team. That's all right. I show you going to say that we were going to like look we could be an item now. I'm just disappointed. Oh, I'm sorry. Now he's to you guys wouldn't match very well. He's back to blonde hair doughy eyed, you know, he still has his dreams and happiness. I was just that his way too innocent for you. You know, you just strip him of all of it off. I would fare. I tend to do this with all men though. Let's be real I tend to slowly take away their hopes dreams, you know their desk for Life their happiness any kind of happiness life. It's it's what I do to all the men that are in my life. Okay, so so that's your analysis which fuck off so that's no that's my analysis regards to jobber. Okay, my analysis in regards to the Browns. All right. Here's the thing about the Browns obj less. Always he had headlines Amy. Okay. This team has a boss ass offense page. There is no reason why they shouldn't be scoring touchdowns all the fucking time. I mean think about the players that they have Nick Chubb Fremont who both went off last night Jarvis Landry. I mean you couldn't get you can get that is a fantasy leagues dream right here, right? Yep. There is no reason why this team shouldn't be amazing because you know what their defense is really cool. Good to this team should be really competitive and making the playoffs and they're not understand now Grandma, who knows what's going to happen tell you what happened last night watching this game Baker Mayfield just he changed into a different person. Like when he like a human in a good way in a good way when he came off the field. He didn't go and sit down on the bench. He stood on the sidelines and watched his defense playing and then he I mean he rallied those guys. He was not going down to Joe burrow. I mean, you could totally he's like, there's no fucking way. This guy's going to show me up and there's no way I'm losing to the fucking bangles and you know what he totally carried his team. He really truly did stepped up it was offensive. Now if they can do that every single weekend this team is really like it has all the weapons that it takes to be a fantastic team which made me. Made me Ponder the fact that there's some teams that you just expect to lose and then there's some teams that you expect to win like the team's you expect to when you expect the steel real attacks right now. You expect the Cal you expect to win. You don't expect the Lions or the Bangles or the Browns. I mean the low-hanging fruit, you know, you don't expect those teams to win. So when they have when they have rosters long, the Browns have their own turning into a team that you they should be winning with what they have. So it sounds to me that the Browns are basically like if you're looking at it from a fantasy league point, it's the guy in league who basically cheese his way to get the best team because everybody else is internet either sucked or they were on auto draft or they forgot there was a draft right? That's the guy in the if you're equating it to a fantasy team roster birth. Okay. Number one. I liked it. You know I prematurely said shut up about the Cowboys cuz I thought you were going to say that you expect them to lose and I like that you're saying that you expect them to win because that's what you do you absolutely suck. Oh you that's what we do problem. That's where we are a we are an elite Lord team. Anyway, that's what you're going with I am. Well, I don't know the baker Mayfield is still a shitstain to me so good for him rallying his team. He's still a shitstain. I do love his Progressive commercials their home like the latest one. Yes. They are the latest one where he's like. Oh, it's getting ready to rain. Help me cover the furniture. And two guys like you mean the stance he's really good in those commercials. If you could only be as good a quarter as he is in those commercials. We would be set the dog pound would be set. Well, we are you a dog pound or now. I mean, I you know, I have a soft spot for the Browns just cuz they always lose. And ever since that movie came out draft day with Kevin Costner yet. Oh, I'm out. I'm done with you. done with you Amy. Your brown spot is showing. I know I know you know, I just I'm weird that way I don't understand it. Either it is I don't either try to figure you out every day and I just you know, I do too and since I'm like, oh I get myself today and then sometimes I'm like now he's nope don't understand myself today, but that's okay. That's most of us as well. Amy. So rest assured you're not in Company by yourself. I think it is twenty-twenty it is. Okay. Well that's sad because now Joe burrow Hollow be his name Falls 200 and two. Yeah, it does and but you know what this guy he's he's a good quarterback. He is is there he should be in his helmet I think time to get mr. Guys. Sometimes he tries to carry his offense which isn't great because then he gets pummeled by pencil like he got pummeled last night several times. Well, you sure. Why does LSU brain sure what he's trying to win? And I totally get it. But at the same time he needs careful because you know, oh, he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. Well getting them know and you just see a lot of what he was doing at LSU that worked and I think you know like every rookie has this learning curve right where you come out transition from college to the big leagues and it's like, oh, okay, it's funny cuz I was like really different style of football right? I said to Bruce last night. I'm like, surprised that they just threw this guy in the deep end. I mean they just started. Oh totally, I mean, they didn't granted he dangles. What else do they have? I'm. That's the problem. They don't have anything else but you know like places in my where to get backing up Fitzpatrick that makes sense. It makes sense for him to kind of, you know way into the NFL same thing with Dwayne Haskins, you know, he he was back up for a while until he kind of learned his name. Yeah, now Joe girl, man. They just threw him in the deep and they're like here you go, bro, you go bu. Yeah. Well, you know what gotta he is trying I mean, he's playing his ass off out there. No he is but he is and that's why I'm like super team Joe burrow like we gotta do this man. Like I'm telling you. It's the stogie. We'll do it get this guy that mean that you're a Bengals fan know how fucking no. No, I like. Oh bji in a Browns fan. I like Joe burrow Ina Bengals fan, you know, I will always bleed silver and blue Amy. That's the only color I would leave home. Anyway, let's move on to the Chiefs. Okay, love us and Pat Mahomes you love some Andy Reid do that cheaper mofo back, right? So Andy Reid's big old windshield mask that he had on. When was it last week? I can't remember. Yeah. We're only in week to segregated windshield wipers. Yeah, so people were like what the hell and so like it was fogging up. You couldn't see shit, but this may be a thing. This may be a thing coming to a coach near you because off on the first Sunday of the NFL season when this happened several coaches were seen either one not wearing masks or to not wearing them properly because the mask police were out and the league is not going to stand for that. It's currently vice president of football operations. Troy Vincent issued a memo this week saying protocol requires all individuals with bench area access including coaches and members of the club medical staff to wear face coverings at all times failure to adhere this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and or clubs. However, Amy, there is no word on what those accountability measures will be so that to me that phrase is what kind of sticks out to me. What does that mean? do you do find them? Probably I mean you can look dead. Here's the thing. They're coaching on the sidelines of talking into Mike's they have to be able bird they have to be able understood. It's really hard for all of the to happen on your face plus all these guys are around each other all the time. They're all you know, I practiced together around the field. They're hitting each other all in each other's faces, you know, I mean and how many people have tested positive since the start of season one? Yeah. They did a very good 2700 players so very good job with with that right off because like you said, they've been implementing measures. They've been following the rules, you know, they've been testing a lot, you know, we got into this, you know leading into this actual season. Jeez, how many coronavirus updates that we talked about on this podcast about hey, this is what the League's doing. This is what they're making them do kind of thing. So something is clearly working. It's really great to see that that's positive news that you know that they're only seeing that wage. Chat, I think I that they should I really think they should go with a handy read mask to be quite honest can still see the coaches face. The microphone can kind of be up underneath it. So they may be able to understand what the coaches saying and and you're shielded. You know, when somebody comes up to your face, you know, I mean, think that that's fine but having to wear them like when it's just, you know covering your face in your nose again, like it's hard for me to understand people when they're wearing a mask and talking to me. Yes, I mean, so imagine imagine being on the field the quarterback coaches saying the guys in booth coordinators up in the booth are trying to understand what the guys on the field coordinators on the field are trying to say, I mean, it's just it's a it's crazy. So it's a shitshow you gotta be able to walk. You gotta be able to your job. I would take that looking like I've got the windshield of a Camry in front of my face the whole time vs Lee having something on my mouth cuz that's frustrating me. Yeah. Give me the telephone number. Windshield all day long over the you know, suffocating face masks which by the way speaking of Tesla. Did you see that their reports of some them being janky like getting like parts that were like really cheap shity on some of the Tesla's that were falling apart marvelous. I know so yet twenty-twenty doesn't happen. Just wanted to put that in there for you. All right coming up next in offsides, you know fall like we said is upon us. Although you wouldn't know here in Texas. It's still like an anus outside but here's something for your home that will make it fall feel less anus e okay Mom handles some new ones that are coming out and they're actually already out and we'll explain to you with those candles our next. All right, let's get into offsides and we've got some candles to tell you about so Amy, yeah, you know football's back. So if you want to get a little piece so that game day experience at home along with fall. This might work. Okay. I know you love candles. There's a company that's owned by Anheuser-Busch call Babe wine. They just created three football scented candles one smells like an artificial turf field. Okay one smells like a Nachos not bad and one

"You just heard from chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback. Patrick. Mahomes and now we continue on with wide receiver Sammy Watkins. The season and one of the things we know fans but not the energy standpoint just a way you guys speak to each other build each other up on the sideline something is right or wrong. Who? On present. So what is the plan to do the things you do without anybody here? Unanimity Stadium. Think the most important partner thing that we've been doing this practice I think we practice Oh fast and the way we the way we are coach Yes hard to go out there with the fans out there. But at the same time we off enough each other and now we create an energy and we've been together for three years together. So we just go out and find enjoy ourselves and we're not planning to do anything else but get to win the half on. Let's go to herald coots. Good Harold. Samuel. Clemens layer obviously you're being. And everything. But you'd probably had to kind of noticed how impressed you with his. Debut where you can go forward and incorporate into that passing game we're it now becomes three or four ops the four five options going down to fill. I'll just thank you need to continue to do. He's been doing now I'm having fun enjoying herself and throwing of all around making the right reads and so far. He's been doing that the whole time and like you said, we got another Guy Clyde in the backfield. We can hand him the ball another thirty sometimes. So I just think for all of us go out and have fun and run around and catch the ball. No Pass continue to do his thing like he's been doing. He's a special player just gotTa, Have Fun Enjoy Ourselves To Adam. Good at..

"Had a good weekend. Editors next game, you'd mentioned surveyors ward had a fractured hand. Then he was gonNA, get tested on Friday on curious how those touch results wind and. Missing anytime, going forward. All say we'll see how it how it goes. He had some work done on it and we'll just see see where he's at. You know when it's A. By game time, but you know we'll say. We just got sal field. Adam Tyson go at him. Excuse me to ask you about one thornhill on and how he felt he was doing on the knee and. How he came through the game also, he didn't play as many snaps as. He otherwise might have. was He on some kind of snap count? Well you know we did. We watched him and he actually came out feeling good. which was what we wanted We were cautious with them. He wanted he wanted to play more to his credit. That's you know it all worked out well in particular the day after was important for us. And for him, most of all. Go to todd legal it's gotTa leave a good. Coach, you guys have not travelled yet Have you can you take some of the protocols and how this is GonNa maybe be different for you when you guys do make that trip out to La. Yeah so you can't leave the hotel so we'll stay. We'll stay we'll leave a little bit later. Get a little bit later and then. we won't have the individual media that we normally have out there But we'll be able to the had our team meeting than grandma by date get on with Avia. So spend a little bit more time here. With our morning meetings and get those done. Good Sam McDowell. Go and SAM. Andy If. This lindell's too much into strategy. Hey, I get it but I was wondering the amount of times you guys ran the ball on Thursday was that something you were intent on doing or is that just the way the game float and Web light out? So I mean, we wanted to get the run game going as where we wanted to do and especially the younger back. I, think that. was important to. Get him used to the speed of the game But at the same time you want production, you know you're you're striving to. Put points on the board. So So a little bit of everything there that you mentioned. Yeah. Part of it was we got in there and it it was working. So we stuck to it on the other hand. It was also good to get our young back. Some carries an experience which I thought was important. That's Kind of the answer to it. Sweeney good. Good afternoon coach. Patrick has said this off season that he wanted to improve on decision making on the fly adjustments on the fly. In in the Game How much did you see him maybe crow in taking what the defense gave him maybe last year this year again I know realizing it's only one game. Yeah. So He did work on that and I thought he did a nice job with that. Managing the game and still taking shots when when needed and You know I thought he was accurate a ball and I thought he handled the the situation against a good defense I thought he handled it well so And that that to me showed. Some growth Not that he hasn't been good at, but he he's who was even better. Thursday night. Go surrend Petra goodson. Coach kind of a follow up to what Sam was asking. Just you know your philosophy on on how much it's not a loaded question like Oh Clyde got the ball too much right. But just to philosophy on how you bounce it and and balancing the workload and just your thoughts about riding a hot hand versus you know giving everybody a little bit of work and trying to get everybody to the finish line you know still at the end. Yeah. So. I mean listen I mean, that's what you do said coach you're trying to manage the whole thing. So we felt like were still able to get people. On the ball or at least opportunities. On the ball and and that's that's important. For. Forever. It's the port for the team and it's important for success on offense. And at the same time, we're able to get our young guys involved really on both sides of the ball which I thought was important and You know and the case you're talking about Clyde. Got Some carries and there are a whole lot of things that go into that. How are you going to recover for the next week? There's a way of doing that as a running back in the national football league. to get yourself right for a Wednesday practice and how do you manage manage yourself up to that point and then get yourself ready throughout the week for for the game. So all of these things he has to learn as he goes forward here. Go to Aaron Lad Aaron. Code, this is a along the lines of todd asked about traveling. Nobody's really played in the stadium to this point and I know a lot of people talk about the new stadiums kind of being almost like airport airs out there empty and just. especially with no fans this year is there any getting discounting report on where you're going to play a quarterback really particular about site live where the clock is and all that Costa? Now, you can see it a little bit on tape. You know that's a it's the same place that they played last night. So we we got a little bit of a jump start on it the thing that jumped out edges I mean it was. the the sound there. There's a that percussion that takes place. In the same her the ball hit the goalpost and you could hear it on TV and as loud as can be, and you could hear players talking in particular. As you get players talking. During the game so it was a Yet understand that with nobody in their things are. anyways. They're magnified a bit from a normal game. Go to nate Taylor coordinate. Andy entered a follow up on the jury just what have you seen to be his biggest growth from when the rookies were able to be in the facility to offset what he did on Thursday? Yeah There's been there's been plenty I mean. Like like all the rookies. Every practice they can get in. Is Good and then if you can get them in the game. Even better. So so they the speed of it is so much more magnified once you get in there the. You've got to get used to it and and it was that that ends up being I think important for all of them. But. He's a good growth. Matt Derek next good met. Hey coach I'm curious overall about what your thoughts were on the offensive blind Thursday night and specifically, with Colucci is does he bring maybe a a different physicality? You'll maybe a little bit more of a brawler attitude that you guys kind of need inside. Yeah. Larry was a little bit that way too and and while he's got some of that in them too so. But it's good at it is going to be able to put another guy in there with his experience. In his attitude about I mean he he plays he plays aggressive and and you have to love that I'm not saying we haven't had it before. But what what an addition to put it in there and I think his you know thing that's followed him throughout his his career as ban. You play against some you better strap it on because you gonNA bring it to you every down and it's going to be aggressive and and he's going to do it to the whistle and that whole thing. So I. I appreciate that I think you've gotTa have that upfront and. It's a good temple center. Got.

"You just heard from chiefs general manager bread vh, and now we continue on with the head coach. Here's Andy Reid so. Don't everybody will practice today. We look forward to the challenge of. Playing, the Texans we we know they're a good football team we've. Played each other enough over the last few years. So I think players are familiar with each other as coaches are. We know be a tough battle. So we've got a good week of preparation in ourselves ready. Again to play. Play good football team. That time jurors. Let's go to Matt. Derek Good Matt. Hey coach you mentioned being familiar with Texans 'cause you played a lot the last couple of years. But without having any preseason games to go off of and you're going up against a defense with a a new defensive coordinator young guy this, what are the challenges as far as prepping for a team like this and building a game plan? Yeah. So Anthony Weaver is a football coach was a heck of a player and Is having a chance to to coordinate and. So. As with every first game, there's some unknown I think they probably tell you the same thing. So it's but you go in and. You gotta stay true to what you do and and You know be able to execute both sides of the ball. So no and special teams knowing that could be a wrinkle there. Let's go to Herbie Kirby..

"He was such an interesting guy so earnest. And End and so fast forward to today. Every player I talked to plays, for Ron, Rivera are played for Ron, Rivera. You might find somebody who will you know I should have been starting I should have been this but whatever that is that doesn't have anything to do with. About the person right you know he is he is simply a beloved figure and that is right today. In my opinion, you've seen such an outpouring You know last night and today an outpouring of you know sort of love and affection from Bill Belichick to. Players on the panthers the obviously a lot of players in in Washington. Tell me a little bit about how you have gotten to know him and just the impression early on that, you have the guy who's going to coach your team. I mean we're early on in the relationship. Obviously. His leadership in this on this team is one of the reasons I was excited about taking this role. When you're around as you said, when you're around the leak, you hear about this man. And it's not just that he's a good tactician. He knows how to build a good staff and all that stuff is true. But it's also that he is steadfast that he's a person of integrity. He's someone where what you see is what you get and I think especially for players and even executives whomever it is in sports where those tend to not be the characteristic that you apply to everything where things shift on a dime where few sources of stability and constancy when you find a rock like that it is formative for your experience and you latch onto that and that's why so many players talk about their experience with him because he's anchoring force, he help people find he knows himself and that's why he's so. and. Then he allows all the rest of us around him to also anchor ourselves as well as a play that unlocks show performance that makes you feel good and it makes all this craziness that pro sports feel a bit more tenable a bit more digestible. You CAN SORTA see you're making your way through it I think that's what makes him so special. And I knew that already about him reputation only, and then in our first conversation. Oh my Gosh I came across. It was incredibly clear way he talked about his values very succinct. Very, Chris unwavering in talking about the standards that he sets on, it was arresting to me. and. Everything was backed up in. The Sky went to work alongside. Jason, I've gotta ask you. I've noticed this in some of your interviews. Your vocabulary is awesome. I mean it's really it's really really good and you know I find that somebody who has really good vocabulary. Had you know a mom or dad or an uncle or an aunt or grandmother Greenfield who really stressed education and hoover who for Christmas would say here I got three books this year. Tell me what you think of it. So I just WANNA know how you How This I don't know. Why are you? Like this? You are in my mailman, read my mail. Yes. That's exactly how I came up. That's exactly how what exactly how my parents were and then on top of that, you know my personality embraced dirt I like information. I eat it up. And so you combine parents who are going to push you a ton of information all the time with a ton of resources. Some Personality wants to just eat it up barechested then yeah that's what you end up with but it isn't often that a reading nerd will get to be really good at football and I know you went to northwestern but still I, you know I wondered, was there any sort of conflict along the way between you know being really well educated trying to be great at this game? Oh, I mean I think it's more in sort of like your identity because. Usually we route our identity in one or more of our strengths or something like that I. Don't know this is a little bit philosophical talk but but I think a Lotta times when you're an athlete, you root a bit of your identity and being ballplayer but I also route it a lot of my identity and how thought about and being curious about topics and learning and all that stuff too So I did always feel a little bit between worlds a little bit between worlds. But the good thing about football at the higher levels is actually pretty intellectual Especially when you're learning a new system when you have a new coach come in that ramp up period of learning all the nuances and before it becomes instinctual and second nature is exciting. But I still I. Mean even with that as always felt a little bit between two worlds. That's why really excited about this role and it's quite personal for me is that I get to bring a little bit of. All the parts of myself in a more integrated way than I have in the past who knows what I'm going to be good I think I will be good at it. But we'll. Do you think if you ask the twenty one year old Jason Writer Twenty, two year old Jason Right that what do you WanNa? Have you WANNA have a long career as a running back in the NFL or do you want to have a long career making decisions for an NFL franchise? What what do you think you would have said at the time Oh, interesting. I don't know twenty, one, twenty, two year old it was pretty greedy. He wanted you wanted. On either give it all give. Give it all Gimme Gimme a fifteen year career and then the rest. And then the rest. No. If I were honest with myself in that moment I always knew.

"I want to ask you about one other player on your team who's really fascinating to me, and that's tyronn Matthew. For him to have taken on the sort of leader type role that he did basically when he almost just walked in your your team. You know and I've always thought it was really interesting about him. He did not allow he would not allow. A when he was like in college and just you know he was his is price tag was devalued because of all the off field stuff that happened he refused to let that part of his life ruined his life. And he has done something every year I think in the NFL two show teams. You know you want me on your team. It like every day with tyrod Matthew. Now, Bill Brian that he just goes listen this kid you just got a phenomenal later. And that what tribute to the kid I mean, he did he added it a rough go. He grew up rough and any. He changed things around. and. He gives back the first week in town. He was out doing community work I mean that's just how he how he goes And then he's always here I. Mean You. It's fine because we're working in the stadium now. So we have called carts at circle the stadium. Circle. Inside the stadium on this on the carpet, we've got the great tires I. Mean we've got it all set up where we can drive these things in one direction around the stadium and utilize all the space we possibly can for social distancing. So every day. I. Drive by the part of the defensive media room where the where the. Defensive backs end up. Going after the defense breaks up. And he's in there I go up early early. He is in there by himself and he's talking to the film. He's located evaluating evaluate the film. He makes funny noises. I think that's why they call them the badge. Up Crunching Groans. but he? You know is. And he is so smart and such A. a smart on the field and off field and such a good leader and he doesn't it with great energy and intimidated by nothing nothing. Is. He just he was a challenge every play. He's kind of maniacal with Howie sort of fires himself up and the screaming and all that stuff and. You know you wonder about that you sort of wonder what's going through his mind I've seen a couple of NFL films clips where he's just you know kind of a crazy guy and then he goes and plays football. Yeah he can work within that lot of people they get crazy in. They can't thank straight and they make a lot of mistakes. The best one of that is the best example of that was. He was miked up during the Super Bowl and. He comes off the field. He's you know he's badgering out on, and so he goes in a sense next the tyreek and he's just gone. LANESE. Stuff tyreek looks like, what are you talking about a new? IDEA. You for that for that second invented, and then he got it back together and he went out and you know Blaisdell up so. But he's he's he's unique What's unique about those two guys as as much into the offense and defense the other side of the ball that they play. As anything so they're they're always talking. To the often. Durant talk the office of guys and then pat talking the defensive guys. There's no wall at all. Yeah. I think it. So interesting about how quickly teams change in everything you know if you've been sitting there in two thousand seventeen if were sitting there in training camp and you thank or even two, thousand sixteen, you look ahead Nisei, well, the two team leaders when we win the Super Bowl in two thousand nineteen are GONNA be Patrick Mahomes Entire Matthew, and that's a gross oversimplification. I'm sure you've got a lot of other guys who who were leaders as well, but things change. So quickly and football, and if you can't adapt and he can't live within that change. It's kind of adapter die you know. There's so much parody in this league and that that's one unique thing with the salary cap that gives every city in opportunity and and so it gives the coaches, the the owners opportunity to compete for a super bowl and and that's what hey during a recession the the NFL was still growing. It's popular people love it too exciting. It's fan friendly. I mean it's it's great for TV. All the new technology that's out these ipads and everything else that your cell phone it's everywhere and allow you and I to make a living doing what we love to do and so It's IT'S A it's a unique. Dynamic I would say or or. Business. will end with this. For years. You obviously were looking to win a championship and everybody who talked about football would say, yeah Andy Reid a great coach but he never WanNa Super Bowl and I just wonder if. Has Your Life changed even one Scintilla. By winning a super bowl, what's what's different in your life now if anything? Not Much I mean. I'm not much a not much. cheeseburger spear. How greater those? Great as a cheeseburger. I like. As much as the next guy, but I don't think I like him as much as you do. Listeners yourself about it, but it keeps it keeps you grounded Peter. Will Anyway listen thanks so much for taking all the time. Good luck. This year it's going to be such a fun chemistry experiment to see if this season can be played out to fruition. Signs are good right now but you know you're in the first quarter of a long game. That's right. It's exciting. Thank you Andy, thanks a lot for taking the time. beat appreciation..

Chiefs lock up Patrick Mahomes through 2031 with massive extension

"For Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl MVP and now locked up under contract with the Chiefs for years and years to come. He's only 24 years old, and he's already won a Super Bowl and is considered an elite. NFL quarterback thoughts on the big deal from the man himself. Obviously, I want security to take care of my family and my and my future generations of family. I also wanted to keep really good football players around me. I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and lie and say that I have a great football team around me. Doesn't help help me when I'm on the field on. So I wanted to find the best way that I could do that. And I feel like as we talk to me and as crazy Chris and and all these guy, Chris Meijin and all these guys talked that they came to me with this. This idea in this concept of Of obviously making me financially secure. But having the ability to go out sign these recent all these guys and like we were returning 20 or 21 of 22 starters, I knew that this was the way that was going to the right way to do it where we can accomplish boats, those things that are so important to me. And, of course, having Patrick Mahomes locked up under a nice contract is also a good deal for his head coach of the chief's Andy Reid. I'm so happy for for Pat for the Can study chief's organization on daily for the city of Kansas City for having this opportunity to have Ah True franchise quarterback here in Kansas City, one that was drafted here, which hasn't happened for almost the duration of the chief's organization. It's stuff homes under contract with the Chiefs. Now from 2031 keep healthy, keeping healthy. That's the you

"Coach we appreciate you taking the time today. Thank you for joining us. Listen I appreciate you guys to listen. I hate talking that much, but. I think it's important I. Appreciate you guys, even listen. Thank you back here on Arrowhead prides from the podium you just heard from chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Now that we've gotten through, that will turn it over to quarterback Patrick. Mahomes with your platform. Just the saddest that you hold is one of the faces of the NFL right now. Just how have you worked through the challenge of standing the scope of all the different things that are happening right now in ways that people could help while figuring out for you specifically how you want to help in how you want to push forward in China may change. Yeah. I think I. Think the biggest thing that I. I've done is just lean on people that I respect that. I believed on it the right way and I I've been lucky enough to grow up with a lot of great role models around me, and just trying to find listen to them as a as they talked to me and then other people around the league. Right way, listen to the advice. They give me and then trying to make the best informed decision as far as What I do in the next day I. Take the move forward, because like you said I've been given this platform and I wanna make sure I can do whatever I can make. Make the world a better place in whichever way that is. Going to see him Nolan's, you're going. Hey Patrick thanks for the time did A. can you name names on the? Adams has fallen on your answer there to Bj. Can you like who who specifically did you talk to that? You respect in is something you plan on doing more of going forward. Yeah I, mean. everybody's a lot of I mean obviously. I talked to those guys in the video Michael. Thomas I've talked to my Godfather Letroy Hawkins Talk to my father and then I've talked to talk to coaches and and people that I respect coach. Read in religious got as much information as I possibly can in their several others of people I talk to. That I get advice from every single day and I try to do that as I make any decision and and do whatever it is that I end up doing. What them. You're doing while today of understanding it. There's a lot of voices and a lot of players involved in this in this player movement right now, but none of them are you and they're not another quite accomplished. Your Age which you've accomplished in your career. Are you aware of what kind of weight? Plans to to the calls here. Yeah, I'm definitely aware I'm aware of everything aware of my surroundings I'm aware of of coming off a super bowl championship, and being being the quarterback of a super bowl, winning team, but I I've always believed in an people and I've always believed in when people do things together and do things for the right reasons and have a good heart when they do things, get done in changes change happens, and so that's always I've grown up. I got I got kind of said in my statement, a locker rooms, seeing how people come together and strive to certain goal into to. And got us. We got. Yup We got a good. Good yet all I met well. Hey, I want to ask you going further with this message that you sit. What kind of be your message to somebody? Young people look up to you now that you're in a position where you're looked at as a MVP a champion. What's your message? The young people that have to do it. Some of these things would racial inequality. Inequality and maybe their dealings with police something through your past at you may have gone through that was dealt with in a racially motivated away. What's your message to them that? Look the to say. Hey. I'm going to get through this and I'm going to try to make myself better. See How your green people together to come back can make better place. I would say to do the same thing that I that. I've done a montage. Life matters to talk to the people that have taught them. Their values have talked them the right way to do things and. Listen to them because they've had those experiences in I'm a twenty twenty four years old, so I I'm maturing learning things as I go. But I've learned a lot from people like my dad. Literally Hawkins and coach Read and learned that that there's ways to handle things in order to get your point across into end to respect people, and and do the right thing but you have to to learn in had your own experiences to do that, and so just taking as much information as you can make the best informed decision that you believe you can make Anna tried to whatever you can to make the world, a better place and every action that you take. Go to Bob. VESCO GO AHEAD BOB. Patrick, you've Kinda gone from the leader of a franchise winning Super Bowl to now basically the leader of the face of the national football league. How do you view your responsibilities now as the face in the leader of the entire lake? Yeah, I mean to me. It's always been about just being the best person and the best teammate, and and the best friend that I can be with whoever interact with That's what I was taught at a young age when my mom and then for my dad, and and from everybody around me is treat people the right way, and usually, and usually you get treated the same, and if it doesn't. Doesn't happen. Keep your head up high and head. Hell Hi just go out there and beat the best person you can be in every instance if that's on the on the That's a listening to one of your best friends. Yeah I mean I. Feel ever decision that you make. There's going to be positive. Negatives in that's that is the world that we live in today, but I believe in both of my statement in the video that I made that it that stuff needed to be said we needed to come together as as a group as players in show that we believe that black lives matter in that that we believe that this needs to be informed that we need to be the role models go out there and take that step and obviously It was great. "Great question Jesse David Fox all right. Welcome back to the OCHO. The first half of this a little bit negative fry like. Oh God. The Sky's falling next door. Terrible COUPLES GONNA lose other sector players. I know I know that would be positive time to be really positive. And I don't think there's anybody more positive than Andy Reid and I mentioned that Mike McCarthy depending on the time that you're listening to this episode we'll speak later today The point is he speaking Wednesday about lunchtime twelve. Pm Eastern and you know this. This is the first true press conference that Mike McCarthy will give the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And that's important. Obviously he had the one at the star but that was introductory press conference. You know this is the first time Mike. Mccarthy is going to have on the cowboys sweater right and maybe they're cowboys cap in the the whole color scheme is going to be different man. It's going to look really weird and then we're going to go to get used to so. This is the first time that he will speak to at least a legitimate degree about the plans that he and his staff half or the two thousand twenty Dallas Cowboys and seemingly beyond and so Mike McCarthy's name is obviously Percolating Because he is the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The cowboys have a lot of things going on. Lots of storylines. And for what it's worth you can always tie anything back to the cowboys. Anything and anybody can be asked about the college when I talk to Anthony Hitchens on Super Bowl opening night. I asked him how how often do people asked about the cowboys. And you're getting the guys having the opening night for his super bowl week and he said yeah. It's been about half of my questions. That's the life when it comes to the Dallas cowboys anyway. Andy Reid Super Bowl. Winning head coach. Good for him. Andy Reid who took to the podium himself on Tuesday and just like he wasn't Miami. Andy Reid was asked about my McCarthy Miami Android was asked about Mike McCarthy once again in Indianapolis. Here's what Andy. Reid had to say courtesy of the Kansas City chiefs website. So he's he's another. He's good for the National Football League. Some of these guys that we're talking about here are good for the National Football League. They're good. They're good football coaches and they handle themselves right way. I have a ton of respect for my um he. I think he was out of football. He kinda recharged by going back. And looking at all the things he could do or do better Analyzing himself in the game and where he wanted to go to once he became the cowboys coach or whoever was going to hire them. So I think you're GonNa get even a better coach said. He was before and that was a championship caliber coach. So certainly. Very kind of Andy. Redo offer Such praise for Mike McCarthy in look. I mean. You've likely heard this comp at one point or another since Mike McCarthy was hired in now but Andy Reid is the Guy Right. If you know if Mike McCarthy is to follow any sort of path that has been set the has been trailed a or a trail blazed. Excuse me It's the one that Andy Reid. Your state right Andy Reid. This coach that had a lot of success in Philadelphia. Five should NFC championship games and Super Bowl. Appearance couldn't get over the hump. Obviously Mike McCarthy WANNA super bowl in his previous stop in Green Bay but then Andy Reid goes in Kansas City kind of sort of recreate. His career gets young. You know that was a point that a lot of people talked about in the Super Bowl. That Andy Reid was the more evolved more creative head coach offensively whereas Kosh Shanahan and his forty nine or more sort of traditional. Your play defense. Run the box and Andy. Reed's this this guy that found the fountain of Youth. And that can theoretically be McCarthy right and you look at Mike. Mccarthy had an awakening right. I mean spend a day at pro football focus. You know understands analytic send. Those are a lot of buzzwords. And there's a lot of fluff I think to that but there is a lot of legitimacy and I think there's a lot of I think there's a lot of reason to buy into it and I think that's what we're all sort of hoping for the best case scenario is that you know. Mike McCarthy does have some sort of Andy Reid to him and I think the most common response. I think you've probably been here. Okay you all probably have a cowboys fan or football fan or a friend or whatever in your life rally member. Whoever that anytime anything remotely positive comes up or something that you think. There's no way that anybody could be negative about this. You get this response with something like this. What else is he supposed to say right like? That's the response. I like. Somebody praises somebody You know somebody praises Dak Prescott. What are you going to say? It's not gonNA trash in publicly. Andy Reid is not going to go out there. And he's not GonNa Trash Mike McCarthy. I don't know what the accent that I'm doing is I'm very embarrassed. Maybe it's because this episode is airing on Wednesday and it's survivor day. Oh my gosh it's survivor day. And I'm really really really enjoying this season. I by the way I have found that I really enjoyed talking about survivor. So if you want to talk about survivor we can totally do that. But anyway And so the point was that was a really terrible Boston rob accent. But that's that's how people are like what's he going to say. Whatever he's just being a nice guy I certainly by And so that's why you shouldn't take what Andy. Reid said his gospel. But I do think you should take an andy. Reid said and feel positive. I think there are a lot of reasons a lot of legitimate and objective reasons to feel positive about Mike McCarthy and it's all kind of starting now it's worth noting that Mike McCarthy Spears Spears Goodness Gracious. I'm all over the place today and again we don't go back and edit this all right so I want you to know this is. This is the one trial through the fire. That's how we roll Nancy. I did again. I'm I'm a mess. But anyway it is noteworthy. Mike McCarthy's peers are speaking positively in so glowingly of him. Like that and for Andy Reid to say you know again that part of a little fluff but I think there's going to be even better. I think that that says a lot and I do believe that. There are a lot of coaches who are watching Mike McCarthy and rooting for him. Obviously because you wanNA root for people because you want to be nice but I think that there are a lot of coaches who get fired who are dismissed who aren't retained. Whatever you WANNA call it. And then they don't know what to do and so a lot of coaches ultimately ended up taking a coordinator job taking the next job. Taking whatever Mike McCarthy played it very differently obviously took the year off to study to learn. And if this works and you can define the definition of works however you want whether the cavs playoff team. They won the Super Bowl. Whatever but if it works then that path. That trail is going to be blazed that it again whoa but And so I think the spell of the Kansas City chiefs Andy Reed's Guy I mean he was somebody who took a year off went to NFL films in Mount Laurel New Jersey and studied and learned KC and that could be Mike McCarthy obviously in a different capacity and so I think that's cool that's cool and I think you know the I had a really sort of down tweet on On Tuesday to a spoke to low in talked about how he was he grew up a cowboys fan. He always kind of grew up rooting for the cowboys etc and Date home in our friend from DALLAS COWBOYS DOT COM tweeted out the quote and I quoted the tweet and I said Dallas Cowboys having appeared in or obviously won an NFC championship game or Super Bowl in to his lifetime. And while that's true I going to be a wet blanket. I want to be optimistic. Ought to be positive. I want to be just want to be upbeat. I've had a cup of coffee which night explain all the verbal missteps that I've had so far in this episode but I think that this is a good first step in the positive direction Our I slammed my hand on the table. Goodness RJ good together But anyway Tuesday was a good day it was a good sort of first day of NFL. Combine action. I'm really excited to hear from Mike. Mccarthy in terms of what I want to hear from Mike McCarthy I want to hear that he's not gonNA come out and say look at the seventieth overall pick we WANNA drift this we wanna Jeff that but I want to hear direction i WanNa hear I wanNA hear forecasting. I WanNa hear forward thinking this. I want to hear legitimate objective. Things that the cowboys have been in our planning on doing instead of the stuff that we've gotten for the last decade and some hopeful that we're all going to get that with Mike McCarthy whenever he does finally takes the podium which will be exciting fun draft class. Who's obviously Joe Borough? Great lied about the hands. it's really been enjoyable to watch so far it's interesting being in primetime so You know it is what it is. And that's just that's how it rolls but Hopefully your first half of the week was not as clumsy as this episode was my apologies. Goodness Chris I will be better for you tomorrow. That's what's going to happen because I'm going to get better tomorrow because I'm GonNa make sure the tomorrow a better version of myself and I was today. I'm GONNA take a day by day. One day at a time tomorrow is going to be better than today's sergeant in the next days are just better than tomorrow's RJ. Just you've got to build build build block block block and just climb. The ladder climbed verbiage letter. But that's how it so anyway. Look you need to do me a favor after. I just completely ruined this okay. You got to have the absolute best Wednesday of all time. Have the best ever Wednesday. Just have the best Wednesday could talk about it. Be about it. Have the absolute best Wednesday of all time. You know why because you deserve. We were my friends. Always go cowboys and peace out.

"Tom Will Brag or anything. I was invited to a big Fox. NFL Party Sean. Payton stop by great talking to him. John Lynch talk to do the GM of the forty niners. I've known John Forever and ever and ever covered him in Tampa as a riot. Super Smart Guy. These guys are so open fund. There was no pressure. Saw Troy Aikman last night. And Howie and Terry Jimmy. Jimmy's on later today. But it was so good to see Sean Payton. He's so happy I think he just got engaged. Right Sean. Payton just get engaged or married married and he was in a very very very goulet. You bring women into your life and it's just a much better everybody's happy yeah women's who make literally everything better. They really do. I mean I've been saying that ever since I met my wife all right so. PF judges every player in every coach. I think judge every coordinator and I don't rely exclusively on it. I watched the Games but I do think. PF does a really good job breaking down the minutia of football. Simplify of simplifying it for us you the the consumer so you know. I love Andy Reid so it was a great pleasure this morning to read that Andy Reid was actually taking every play into account. This year voted judged the best coach in the NFL. Now I saw Sean Payton last night. And Sean is a legend. Sean walks around with that super bowl ring. There's a certain Gravitas Sean. Payton good-looking Guy Walks into room. It's like they're Sean Payton. But the difference between being a legend Sean Payton and just. Espn a good coach was an onside kick here in Miami. That took three minutes to unpile people in a guy on his team had it. They scored ternal minimum one. No it's perhaps not as simple as that but the line between good and a legend is really thin thin in this League Pete Carroll was fired twice seven nine seven nine in Seattle and had Matt Flynn going into camp. It was is all over fired for third time. They passed on Russell Wilson twice not a third time now pete is a legend happens fans in the NBA. To Doc rivers was fired in Orlando. It's like twenty five and forty eight in Boston and then he got. KGAN Ray Allen. Docs now hall of fame. Aim Coach and he's a legend in the NBA. You gotTa land to stars the right to stars in the NFL. You gotta get quarterback back. Bill Belichick was fired in Cleveland because he couldn't and was three in eleven and New England before lead so was hurt and a young driven even willful aspirational. Tom Brady walked off the bench. novus about Andy Reid Andy. Reid has the second the best record in NFL history bins. Lombardi off a bye vince. lombardi eighty two percent winter. He is also one of seven seven coaches to make the super bowl with two different teams. And he's never had an a quarterback he finally finally does the line between good and a legend. Pete Carroll Sean Payton. WHO's your quarterback? Bill Belichick had a losing record in Cleveland and a losing record in New England. So if you want to take sides who wins it. The coach of the quarterback take nick either but just have perspective. This is the first time for the next ten years. Andy Reid. It'll be a fair fight for the smartest offensive coach probably in the NFL since Bill Walsh. Here's Joy Taylor.

"Hear directly from your Kansas City chiefs and I'll provide a little bit of color along the way my name Ms Pete Sweeney. I'm the editor in chief over at Arrowhead Pride. Dot Com and the three and chiefs have turned their attention to the Detroit lions are set to play noon Arrowhead time at Ford Field in Detroit great and this'll be a quick episode of from the podium because only Andy Reid and Patrick mahomes spoke from the podium on Wednesday so we'll start with the chiefs head coach. Here's Andy Reid read from the podium. The guys won't practice today or fish and tyreek. Damian Williams also be the practice before the challenge of playing Detroit. We know their football team. They're undefeated right now doing in a two and a half of my Matt Patricia these joint changed and their personnel players coaches playing hard aggressive football. Sorry guys are starting to get back in and make sure we study him and go go through a phase. We need to go through before we collect money that line for football. What about what what they're doing is really incredible. They play they've got a good scheme and then they play hard and tackle well. They've been living off turnovers on defense and now says of festively. They're scoring points so you gotTa make sure you stay on top of that. You've got you've got quarterback that has been around awhile and goes the game. They've got some guys that can also put the special teams who do took a job. Two turnovers are turnovers count but there's maybe a little difference between did go get it and then someone making a mistake making a living my actually take it away and things they're doing forcing them to tackle the ball and the ball ball comes out and and so yeah fumbles have been one thing about a couple of interceptions then there so that's all so far mentioned engined malnutrition obsolete kick from those though check and talking about big. That's your guy. How how long does it take for you to find who you are. You're always going to be influenced by came up with but what did you like reading reading to. Not You know Oh baby. I'm a smart elegant and so yeah I mean you. Develop your own thing. You put your name on it and you go you do it. As a player you doing as a coach in any profession where so normally starts aren't right way. You can't help but if you're copying somebody then the players re through that particular when player comes it was somewhere or else and then you've got problems so you've got to be yourself but he's done that. He's not nice job. He had a big responsibility with New England being coordinator for a number of years and he was so and I think he's kind of put his own mark movies. Those three released between Steve's Today. We sort of rotating was eight guys in these. I just how you feel it. The ideal yeah yeah you try to keep fresh throw fastballs in there. I think it's good to get some as young experience in there. Too pays off free down the down the road but I think are playing fast and aggressive. They seem to have a good grasp of the concepts mm skinny and we're trying to do so when the shop became available. You noted that he still showed a bear stocktake added for a few weeks different now than last yeah. He's got gray hair but he still has the vision in the shifty. He's never the fastest guy in the Orley fast enough but not that's not his game is gave him a great vision and an ability to move they still has he's got a burst. I catch pretty. We're not asking him to go. Every downed probably did that more in Philadelphia than what we're doing now so I I can't answer that part because he's he's in a rotation so But the vision and the feeder a the rookie receiver you've had with more through three games and go hardin Sean Jackson. UC makeup wise you know whether it's physical or mental that's kind of comparable to those took is our all legs little short torso long legs which is interesting unique and they don't. They don't now way at time. You put them on a scale. They're not going to be like one of our legs so it's but they could run and run fast and they both have a good feel for the game. Both of them are smart guys. Johnsboro smart kid wants typical Williams taking his opportunity yeah now so he played for us last year kind of the same type role and he's just kind of Mr consistent instant tough again. He's a smart kid so he knows everything protection wise. It's gone on patient runner. He goes he's GonNa. He's GonNa hit you. Bring a lot of hardaway behind him so he can shoulder down and get you a couple of extra hours there any the You seem to be pretty impressed today with coys ability to self right he played last week. He'd do anything above and beyond. was there something about what compared himself last week. I think it's just a willingness to spend time here. You know just stained and worked as well those injuries in the morning work at the better given it takes a lot of time and effort you got to kind of push through some things there that and he did he worked it and as a result he is able to play but I think it's a good example a certain injuries. You can't do that with this one that you can't and you're not going to hurt your career career. Your or your future to be able to walk is not just the time over the years is just one of those guys can push through some stuff. That's a tough position place. You'RE GONNA take a few hits now. He's quick enough and vision comes in handy so he knows is when you get down and then when to drop his shoulder and try and get extra yards but he's been pretty good with that you know from even when radio's young limit some of the unnecessary hit suggest to take on defense. Some of your stats are already better the last year but I'm from coach said the other day. He thanked the turnoff to come from coaches. Be What do you see. It tells you that this tanking get down. We're so oh close. I mean you see or were right there. We'll get our hands on the ball or were hesitant in some some areas to go. Get the ball and I mean there's small things and so I look at that and I go. Hey you give that a little time. You Trust those exchange and you've been league. I've seen it before so you know that's gotTa Company. That's earth Kerr things like warp speed out there so it's happening right now in real time and one of those things where you have to do it you gotta keep. I'm doing it and then it just becomes second nature so the improvement. The expectancy is mostly other things well no but that was so yeah. Turn turn so I'm saying that turnover is you'll see improvement in that area. If we have opportunities like the ones we've had or created opportunities like the ones we have so by putting yourself in the right position and but I think overall you're gonNA more. They planted planet. You better get who you mentioned making more coming from his days with the Patriots where some of the challenges I'm just for you as a play caller and also the game clinger knowing that you working when it gets guy who does like the scheme he's very good at it and and so you can say well they played man coverage here but they might come on Blake over to the next game so you don't know and so you make sure that you cover all the bases with you guys and he's got like I said the scheme that they've got is their base game is tremendous and then they can go different directions but I can tell by disciplined as guys are and I know that defense well enough what they're asking them to do you and and they're doing those things sound looks like the players trust and believe in color coded from a company standpoint. How big of a big frank ticket that I I mean it was good. It was good sack. I mean as much as he's doubled in keeps fighting through it. I think that's where I look at it. I mean I'm not into all the staff stuff at how many actually gets but being around the quarterback and then having him finally an opportunity to tackle. That's a good thing just a couple of good running backs up. This is another workload back. Have you worked lives. How critical tone early lower yours to carry. That's what you do. I mean the players want to do that. Way And the coaches want to do it that way so they work on it. I I just always give credit also to the team for a reason if they're good and tell you they're good the number one offense the number two defense is not like they're. GonNa win a lot of games and so good football team news emotional times fired up times baby chat and Chambas leaves teammates thing or something that he needs to get more more confident offer. Maybe a little bit more animated. He's he's been that way. I mean he's he's competitive and he's a leader Combat Punch and he's the one that's on the field and so he wants certain things out of the play as a player you got to get those those things done and so and that's were my trust in him and the other coaches trusted him comes in the these you make sure you demand the right things. Obviously you're in the game and he's very good with that. I mean that's one of his strengths so he's got that natural leadership ability and and he doesn't get job with. I think it weighs it. Well you do every every play. Just GonNa turn you but I think he's got a good show. For of course you can throw the ball tied into the first happened. must the second half run the ball. Pounds is their philosophical thing on every plane with the lead. Is there a certain waiting start trying to maybe get a little more conservative play calling situation. I probably tell you situation difference with that. In mind off feel so that's chiefs head coach. Andy Ndi read from the podium and you could tell he he's in a good mood. He's really excited that the chiefs for three and enrolling here but he's also focused on the Detroit Lions Matt Apper Tricia Really defensive-minded head coach from that Bill Belichick tree they really liked to run the football and he made some good comments about the defensive line rotation and how well that's been working out for the chiefs as far as defense. The defense is coming along. I found the compliments on the running backs interesting really highly complimentary of Shawn McCoy and Daryl Williams and what I found particularly interesting about it. This week is that read is going going above and beyond to commend Leshan McCoy for pushing through that ankle injury and that could just be a compliment for him but I wonder if there's more to it because Damian Williams has now been out for two weeks running. I'm talking to you right now. On Wednesday night he missed practice today. That's the fourth straight practice missed and read really said he was proud of McCoy. The thirty one on your old who sounded like did extra treatment to get back on the field. You wonder if there's an extra message that he's sending to perhaps another player on on the team the player at the same position it does make you wonder all right after the break. We're GONNA keep from the podium rolling with cheese quarterback. Patrick mahomes will be right back. Check out the American Ninja Warrior podcast for a behind the scenes. "This is the podcast where you get to hear directly from your Kansas City chiefs and provide a little bit of color along the way today is the Wednesday September eleventh version of from from the podium and I think as Americans we all know what goes along with that and with that being said I do want to share something but I won't do so so until the end of the podcast so we'll get through your Kansas City chiefs and if you wanNA stick around I have some words about September eleventh. I I do WANNA share with you before we do that. Of course we're going to hear from chiefs head coach. Andy Reid quarterback Patrick Mahomes and linebacker Anthony Hitchens the chiefs turning the page from the forty forty two twenty six win over the Jacksonville Jaguars now focusing their attention on the Oakland Raiders Oakland Coliseum the last time in Oakland this Sunday three we oh five PM Arrowhead time. Let's get into the podium interviews. We're GONNA start which sheep's head coach Andy Reid. Here's Andy Reid from the podium the other injuries you know Patrick. He's GonNa Practice. Today's just a quick word in September eleventh. I realize that but again are too onto the responders and in the victims families of of of the September eleventh incidents interplay so we'll keep that close to her heart and then our minds at this time we look for or the challenge of playing the raiders football team. We saw that Monday night so we've got to go through the process of getting ourselves ready it to play them and again. We look forward to that challenge so time in writing his when you step in that stadium when you're out there you you understand the rivalry the guys that have been here they get it. It's a long standing rivalry discloses. You're GonNa have the college atmosphere that way. As far as I go and and then likewise when the raiders come here I think they realized that so I think it's a neat neat thing had our fans and their fans feeling and and the players show you get the rivalry when you really you. No you got those rivals here when you really start feeling if you if you look at the history of the NFL you realize it. I realized that when I came here I mean I know about it so if you've been around the NFL or studied it at all you gotta realize how important a I feel played there. I know you history. What's the best and worst part bathrooms flooded last year so I won't miss that you know I it's it's unique stadium. It's a little the thousand to it and you won't be plan land. Still Baseball season will be played on the dirt which doesn't happen in this league anymore so that part will be kind of neat and then the great since since I've been here and over time I know since I've been here we had some great battles out there and I wouldn't expect anything different. Short missile sure receiver can't play least Ringo what went into that decision making these for now has so you know we get dat back off of suspension and so um we still we should be okay there. We had worked Smith in their during the campaign so he can also do some things for us there so they felt like we'd be okay that that spot however we love triangle on you know that it really nothing. There wasn't anything on his performance formation's for that. Don't you mentioned the dirty. He'll put the fact how you prepare change guys just off so there's there's a low water table there anyways. I think we know that too so their turf is a bit slippery even when you're on the grass part so were that and then guys that haven't played on the dirt though he'll get out there and pre game and have a chance to work work with that so. Would you not call play because you're in the Dir- like a certain office and play. If you get more intuitive is that we just call the dirty plays dirt calls. Okay okay we're we're. We don't care still have to monitor Patrick so they keep a close eye on during the game I mean how do you process that our our medical staff rick and the doctors. They're the ones really monitoring. I didn't have a chance to watch them practice and he can move around to play so right now. He's you know he's feel pretty good so the practice that John coys workload could reasonably increase this week doc. I think we have a good blend. I can't tell you one way or the other but I would tell you that we're comfortable. Both guys and you know Oh sang so he can get in there and do the same too so I mean we're going to alter it was gonna be more effective on the ball with Williams this Jacksonville better when he helped me out and yeah it could be that could be the coverage is in the Frans presented some lots. Ah Things go into that are obviously instantly with Terengganu potentially. Take on bigger role. What do you mean to see. Maybe I guess I evaluate anyway so he's. We've rotated men so he he's played got to play. Ah During the Ota's got christened during that time and and and so we feel comfortable that he can step in and play and you know I'm not gonNA compare it. Sit here and compare them to a tyree Graham. We just go in and we play in so that's that's what he'll do but she'll come from. We can do this stuff we do. You don't have to change. Thanks Bernie running back in there so I hadn't thought about them. I mean you could I mean I mean that's why we'll talk on your understanding that the Jaguars offer one of the best better transcend. The league passed as a little cleaner to see my couple three hits. You don't WanNa get hit at all. I mean that's the objective and so as we got do better. I've got to do a better job. Put the is in the right position and when they are they. GonNa make sure they pick them up and talk. Go so what we're trying to keep them. Clean the whole again in your experience with your experience guy. If your total scheme would you try and do things like having fun now he said at the best this year your second year you're you're familiar with everything from the practices to the installs to whatever amount of plays into actually knowing that the play and then a lot of it comes off a known what the next year is is. GonNa do not just knowing your assignment but known the guy next year his assignment so you can play off of him so I think he takes a little bit of time to do that. Have a smart kid and we worked extremely hard now. We probably didn't cut me breaks because we hadn't playing all three positions and and so that's that's another load on there but he works extremely hard and he learned everything. I mean you saw him. Improve as the season went onto so trying to contain a phenomenal passage misses. I hit him in the pro bowl before I got the I've known as a as a kid and smart smart guy with a lot of talent and and so he's GonNa Player and we're aware that it's it's a great challenge who we played you. Go back and look at the table got hurt with a clean football. Play the tackle. There is some answer a game yeah. I think the play was that partner stuff after I probably questioned what happened. Initially was attacked. It took us with the team. You can be back as you said with you. The abyss big business is poised yeah. He's done it before. It's been kind of in opposition are working. Both of them were okay with that. I know I'll play mm-hmm. Yeah Indeed Rob. Where confident derived knows everything. He's got the whole thing down to so. We're not tied into one one thing or one person probably so I I think pretty good on the wind is how do you manage your such inconvenience kind of wind that success but time you are against absolutely. I wanted to have success. I love the competition I mean. That's why we're in this and so I know that it'd be well coached. I mean really well coached so I love that I think are coaches low that challenge because he's got good coaches and then they they went through a retool that team is off season and they've got good players so you love that part. That's what you spend all these hours. Do what you do and you want the best you want other guys healthy and everybody you know that's how you want and and then you go play. A great part about this news brought over Aussies. It's one of those guys. Give me one of the guys that kind of the leader of that gets young guys. What were you takeaways himself. I think mostly knows that defense headed out so you give them different looks he. He can be the adjuster on that and get guys so from a coaching standpoint. He helps out uh-huh and that way so he's GonNa Coach on the field goal. I guess maybe it certainly I prefer to congratulate you. Love the process as opposed thrown okay if they play I remember very long so in this day and age so with with free agency and all that so they can play you explain point their talents mega man and cut them loose to go and you remember feeling on nine eleven. And how much do you think in the days afterward were we. We were part of the House right there on the eastern seaboard. They're in Philadelphia and remember very well. I mean I've ever talked calling my sherman who was in Green Bay area. Actually he called me and wanted to talk about football. You know he's going on and he wasn't even aware that it was going on so it's a but I think everybody in the eastern seaboard was pretty locked in on on where where things are happening and how they were happening and then afterwards I thought the country degree Java Rally Phanom Sports taught absolutely absolutely a big part of their par- getting everybody back something to jumping on a very important a positive way in a a negative very negative situation that was a real positive so some classy words there from Andy Reid as he's asked about September eleventh again more at the end of this podcast if you if you do wanNA stick around when it comes to the chiefs notes Andy Reid was asked about Byron pringle the chiefs ended up releasing Byran in Pringle Wendy Anthony Thomas came off his suspension pringle did clear waivers and he is now back with the chiefs as a member of the practice squad but it it seems like with tyreek. Hill now being absent. The chiefs are are turning back to tremont. Smith so tremont. Smith went from a cornerback to an offensive player. During training training camp went back to a cornerback to begin the season and now with the injury to hell. The chiefs will be working him as an offensive player once again. Andy Reid wasn't willing to commit that there'd be more work for Leshan McCoy but I think things are trending in that direction probably gonNA end up being a fifty fifty split this weekend and in my estimation a lot of Nice words about Sammy Watkins Sammy Watkins coming off one hundred and ninety eight yard effort against the Jacksonville Jaguars three touchdowns downs Watkins looked outstanding and read credits both his ability to learn the playbook and it has to be his willingness and what he did this off season to stay a in shape and the chiefs are going to need that to continue now without tyreek. Hill one of my questions that I asked read about Jon Gruden and these are two coaches reading Gruden Rudin that grew up together in the nineteen nineties is coaches with the Green Bay packers and so I asked him. Is it tough seeing him succeed given the fact that you're playing him in the AFC West Division and I think read answered it perfectly..

"Was getting a little bit of work in there and learn that part so that kind of player in this offense becomes you know ends up being a valuable if he can do both it's a valuable position couple more coach n._f._l. Films uh-huh carrying a film on sundays from including behind him and you know the family pretty. Well your thoughts on the project. Yeah well i. I got a taste of it at the owner media so so i'm believable i mean everybody was in tears. It was it was crazy stories. I mean you you gotta see it. It's just one of those. You've gotta see deals. It's it was phenomenal capture. I'm sure the whole audience and <hes> you know it was <hes> jagged did <hes> she did the <hes> <hes> narration or the the questions and answers airmont. We call that monitor monitor. She was the monitor so she did a great job with it and <hes> and then the ladies they just they were able to express express himself in the history. The history is phenomenal. Some of the stories are just unbelievable was the worst but <hes> we'll see on that yeah. We haven't even got there yet. Yeah i'm not that far along <hes> in this over kind of getting through through all this and then we'll see. How do you feel that your team just just in general terms where you are right now where you need to be yeah i i love the attitude and the work that they're putting in. I appreciate that <hes> we we shelve away this ago. We gotta keep working <hes> but there there were doing some good things and but we gotta keep built. You know you gotta keep. It's it's early yet and <hes> and you gotta keep your foot on. The foot on the gas. Got blank like everything out. I put everything aside here and go play and so that's what this this groups have been doing that. So far and i appreciate that part is that she's head coach. Andy reid from his press availability on tuesday. He welcomes jeff allen and the anthony thomas back to the team and you could hear it in his voice. He really doesn't think there's going to be too much of a transition for these these guys who know the offense to dive right back in and get up to speed in the twenty nineteen version including patrick mahomes mccoll hartman and some of the other different things that now exists exist. I found two points interesting in this press conference. Cam irving had been working as a starting left guard on tuesday. I thought it was interesting. That read said eh. He's just trying to mix him. With andrew. Wylie andrew wylie had been the starting left guard all training camp so this was a little bit odd but reid said he just wants to get the two players experience at both positions so the way. I look at it as this. If one of the tackles eric fisher or mitch schwartz goes down does it make more sense for the chiefs used to put andrew wylie at tackle and slide cam irving in than it does to just put cam irving and tackle is he better as a guard than a tackle. I tend tend to think that wiley is still a starter but the chiefs are just trying some things out and that makes sense to do at this time of the season. I also thought it was interesting and you heard my question to read about trauma smith that she's reworking shimon smith as a wide receiver now a member. He came as a cornerback transition to a running back. He was working as a wide receiver on on tuesday and it's just a chief trying to see what they have. In smith. I think with thomas now added to the roster smith making the team becomes more difficult because he served the chiefs chiefs as a backup returner where we've seen anthony thomas run as a backup returner before he was actually a starting returner on this team over the past few years so that certainly hurts the chances of tremont smith are we're gonna keep it moving here with the quarterback of your chiefs. Here's patrick mahomes from the podium. Media got a new face out there kind of during back danny..

"Play not looking for money looking for a smart team where he can win playoff games. Let let's let's and I've said this there are organizations where you can kind of feel that pressure hanging over you. So you can buy Andy Reid who's been a great coach struggled and some big games in Kansas City last year, your last, you know, big game there, they lose they blow that huge lead against. Nece- it almost feel like it. Feels like Kansas City, historically has been a little jinxed. Can you sense that you know, what I I wouldn't say jinx as? On some things that happened that as I Alarcon can. out about control. But at the same time man, we pass some great years in Kansas City since India stepped in that organization, especially the five years. I was with them. We we want every year one had had a winning record. Yeah. Went to went to the play offs and things happen. If you wanna go down a list as Peyton Manning Brady ban. You guys were in a era when you face three of the best AFC quarterbacks of all time is actually exactly and some things happen, whereas outta control. But at the same time Andy Reid is a proven coach in his lead. So I I think anybody would take Andy Reid as a head coach. And and and you can win with Andy Reid. I mean, especially especially now you have this quarterback. This is this pet Mahomes quarterback man, you can do disguise limit. Okay. Let's let's talk about Mahomes. So your last year in Kansas City. He's a baby Patrick Mahomes comes in Kansas City moves up draft to get him. Take me to the first time, you're at a practice your CNN. And it you. Thought to yourself. Wow. This is all different it really every day every day. He would he would just mess up the defense. I mean, he would throw the ball. No look passes hearing. And I've always thought like man, I will get mad. I'm like, hey, stop messing around like, you know, throw the ball look off a little bit and throw the ball. But this is what he does like he looks off and his I control his I'm Olympia latest craze. He will be looking this way. And throw the ball this way. And I'm like coach he's messing around. That's why you know, they're fuss. Like, hey, don't don't let them throw a ball. And now, I'm like, hey, he looked this way. And through the ball this way. So it was one of those things where it was some special things going on. And we would just look back and be marble at him at his ability to throw the ball side on. I mean, he did all this in practice like he was working on what he does in the game throughout the whole year being scouting quarterback in. I see it like first hand right now. I'm like, oh, I've seen it throw all the time. So you were with Andy for. Five years. He's known as a great teacher and mentor Nali two players, but coaches, if I said to you gimme one thing, you learn from Andy Reid that maybe other coaches didn't teach you or you thought separated Andy from other coaches, what would that be how I would say his confidence level. And and and and the way he goes about things he's he's a guy. That's he's always always harps on the little things like he's on means showing up to meetings on time just doing a little things. Right. So when you get on the big stage, you can make big things happen. But I still remember I don't know if it was two thousand fifteen or something like that. We went one in five, and he came in usually coaches they come in. And it's stomp or chewing chewing session, we was one in five he walked in and said, hey, guys, we're not far off keep working keep doing this. He's very calm. And I'm looking around like. Wow. Like, okay. Like, okay. We can do this. Let's do it and went on, you know, nine ten game winning streak made. Playoffs. I mean, this is this is coming from Andy Reid. He he he's he's a type of coast can get every all his guys playing on the right on a high level you face ballot. Check four or five times in.

"It is it is not safe for work. It is bad. And Andy Reid is the only coach who still there. And when you look at that list. He was the safest coach we knew what we were getting good one thing. You don't want to do is develop a coach alongside of quarterback. We have no idea. Zack Taylor the quarterbacks coach from LA Rams can call plays. We have no idea. All we know is he no, Sean McVay. He can tech Sean McVay every once in a while. Congratulations taylor. But I don't know why you would wanna take a risk when you know, Mike McCarthy can win games. And that's what I understand that you want the higher ceiling, but Lincoln Riley is not coming paths. Cheryl's not come and David Shaw is not coming when you're dealing with the NFL pool right now. Mike McCarthy is very high on my list. All right. Let's go to the four games. Let's start with the colts. Texans. I have no strong feeling generally. If teams. Meet again after a team beat him. The better team does win you feel like there's revenge, but January teams win for a reason they have better personnel or their better teams. I don't like the idea that the Texans have the worst offensive line remaining in the NFL with very little conviction. I would take the colts and have no confidence. Where would you lean? I'm leaning towards the Texans. And here's why we talk all the time about the problems great quarterback. And solve you know, who else selves, great problem aside from having to Shawn Watson Danja Hopkins is a problem solver. If you throw the ball to a covered deandre Hopkins, he becomes uncovered. That's he's one of the few guy. He's almost like shack a little bit where you can just throw the ball in his direction. Something good is going. You didn't have a drop this year. No, that's unheard of. And nearly two hundred targets. It is unbelievable. And it's just it's one of those things where I think that that's going to be. I think that home field is it's real it's very it's real plow to man. Nobody was played in the Super Bowl has won a road game since twenty twelve well slow slow down time out. Hold on say it again, nobody who's played in the Super Bowl has played in a road game since twenty twelve in the playoffs. Joe flacco and Colin Kaepernick today on the same day in twenty twelve twenty twelve isn't that amazing? That's an amazing stat. Right. How we just noticed that just throwing haymakers good Lord. You like Houston I like Houston because of the with alleged. I think that both these teams they tied and points to fifty eight each in their matchups. I love Andrew luck. I love Frank Reich. I think that the defense on Indianapolis. They are they have probably set it on the show. They have the capability to go forward and be a dynasty because they have a lot of really good. They're better story than a team right now. I mean, let's be on. I agree. I agree. And I just think Houston is ready to win right now. JJ watt. He is somehow JJ watt one of the most famous players in the NFL is not getting the credit. He deserves after fifteen axes..

"Care of every employee that is displaced and flies. Our family to us puts them in a hotel with us and has our back at every turn it makes you feel connected. Appreciate it and inspired to give them everything. You've got as a player. So in the midst of this basic horror that the Rams have got to put up or had to put up with. They've got a very interesting thing building there possibly possibly in terms of team chemistry, and I found that highly highly interesting. So I think I would I would end this by basically. Really? Just saying, okay. What does this mean now? And again, this is going to be a story that's going to exist for quite a while. And it may still exist after this season, you know, the spate of fires out west. But, but I I think the one other thing to appreciate is the fact that in look most people live in Missouri, and who were bitter at cranky for moving the franchise a couple years ago to LA, I totally get if you're bitter and unhappy, and and all that. But the fact is this team this organization stepped up huge at a time of huge need for these players. And I think it was really a good move by cranky. And I think most people would agree that that is sort of a standard setting issue. You know, by STAN Kroenke that. He didn't have to do. But he did it. And I think he'll be the beneficiary of this down the road. And now my conversation with Kansas City, coach Andy Reid. Back on the Peter King podcast happy to be joined by Andy Reid. The coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy were sitting here after you have one yet another game. But this was a little bit of a different game win over the cardinals. It was probably tougher than anybody on the outside. World would have thought you prepared for this game? What did you expect going in? And what did you see? Yeah. While you you're sitting in between this game. And then your game the following week against the Rams, and so in Mexico City, and so there's there's a little bit of that distraction. There you're coming off the team to teams whose records are very good at or working to get themselves better. And and so you're going to get their best shot, which we understand is great for football team to get this experience where young team and a lot of areas in particular winning back back toback type games. So it's important for us to learn how you go about doing your business week in week out. Doesn't matter who you play the situation. And so we take a bunch for this. What do you think you learn especially in terms of protecting Patrick Mahomes? He got beat up a little bit. He got sacked five times in this game by the cardinals. Yeah. This is great for our office of wine. So we've got a little bit of a mix in there of new new guys and young guys..

"That's the leadership i think we've lacked in other areas where you're going to come out this is what you're going to do and andy reid is going to have to live with the results and as long as he owns up to whatever the decisions made the results to me always matter a little less than the process by which you came to this decision and if you're consistent and of itself from huge firmly believe in in andy reid who was lauded for being exceptionally close with his players and usually reluctant to discipline this means something vis matters clearly he feels like there is reason enough and so if he's firm in his conviction i would point that out that is leadership that is pointing to the rest of your team and saying i'm going to draw the line in the sand somewhere that despite the way that this could reflect on me and maybe part of this reflects in a security in his position as the head coach of that team that is afforded a few other people this is a we were we see the turnover happen all the time and i think that colors allotted decision for people i think that affects a lot of decisionmaking for people is understanding that were so result driven i see this happen with coach is on the positional level all the time they're becomes this problem where when you're playing and coaching for only only the result and you're not is focused on the process in the things get you there and you start coaching for an outcome instead of coaching the principles and the things that you believe in a know jor ward system is so is skew that i think actually runs counter to finding your way to success like we don't there's no surprise that the teams that are successful are very disciplined but also very set in what they coach people could always readily identify the tenants of those teams and how their coach and so when you stop rewarding technique when you stop rewarding the things that go into the fundamentals of winning i think you undermine yourself and sort of this is in a means to that end for andy reid than i sort of applaud that effort if i don't on a personal level agree with it eight.
