"I i could see you. You're glib doing. tv any any thoughts about that. I did a few games for the astros last year. enjoyed it. It was fun. But i enjoy being around the players and kind of being a part of a team and i and i love the coaching aspect of it. I feel like that. The things that i learned over the course of my playing career Could benefit the guys. That are playing today so i love to pass along a experience in information and doing things like i did with carpe. This offseason i mean that really is is where my I think my passion lies when you were coaching yet. Andy pettitte is. What are your assistance. That had to be the most veteran staff. I'm guessing in the league. You were in a you. Think other teams reverend intimidated. Look over and said well. That's a lot of big league experience on the other side ended. The kids all know your resume is years. Ago isaac bruce. He was coaching receivers in high school football. And he tells kid how to block them feeling kids. But what are you know. Well you could. You could probably look me up. Did the kids know your careers and you think it was intimidating to the other teams. Well i think. I mean. I don't know about intimidating. I do know that like whenever we were playing. We got the other teams best game because whether it's the opposing coaching staff for the players. You know they kinda wanna like you know. Hey we we beat these guys But yeah the kids are about the. I've had that kind of same experience. That isaac bruce did some everybody every kid's different but you definitely get a few that are less Coach -able than others and It doesn't take long for the allure of having a couple of former big leaguers to them. You're just their coach so Yeah i think. Initially especially when i first started there was a little bit of that You know man starstruck wherever you want to call it from the players but that that were operating quick and then it becomes kind of a typical player coach relationship which i enjoy and They they kind of me is not a former major leaguer. But just their coach. Are you have one of the greatest nicknames in big puma you. One of the most insulting nicknames fed elvis who gave you each name and you go by.

"Left field corner I'm not sure what happened in there because we never saw the finest a long time trying to get the ball out of the corner once in the skate the Sedins the judge was going to be a double got it there is the to follow back so the golf holes at to have the ball hit the stands that jut out sometimes it'll kick back to the outfield and again hold on to a single once it got past the stands and rolled over the quarter the slowest men that you know Swisher runs okay this changeable way a strike by milking Andy Pettitte out taking up V. P. yesterday at at the workout he was hitting some long balls in the end that is what they want him to do so over short it's going to coming home to be Swisher's scores and the Yankees tied the game at three want to commend Swisher that was a broken bat looper to center field and he ran right away he must've gave perfectly credit got a high curveball and lofted into shallow left center and Swisher left immediately and just scored the tying.

"Nine Yankees won that one eight to five they had a come from behind it was Andy Pettitte against against Cole Hamels to begin with and out tomorrow night with game Forgan have market share on with us at six thirty but John and I we haven't talked to fans and I don't know I'm getting tired of talking just to John and to my dogs so we'd love to talk to you tonight for this half an hour before this game eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six here's our number let me bring bring in the voice of the New York Yankees my partner John sterling how are you this evening Mister sterling well I'm wonderful on this beautiful beautiful day and you know the biggest thing is for most of them for you and for myself and for everyone who listens to you know use the the mask and gloves and stay away from this virus and then let's get over this thing eventually we will eventually we're going to win out and what is what is really a World War well tonight issues that were were playing game three they have split the first two games at Yankee Stadium quickly beat the Yankees top on the X. that in this game Mrs imagine that a come from behind your my memory this game Susan as a line drive by a rod to write and I don't think it was called a home run but then we looked at the replay the ball went over the wall the TV camera came back on the field and then after looking at it they did they did call it a home run so that I remember and you remember that the Yankees had a come from behind in this game well because Andy Pettitte gave up three runs not not early early but in the the what was it was the bottom of the second inning I just wore it started off with a home run and then a double by Felix a walk to Carlos Ruiz a bunt single by Hamels himself a walk to Rollins Rollins excuse me Felix scored and then the sex life that Victorino and you're right it was the fourth inning a walk to stir Shera and then a refund if that two run home run top of the fifth Yankees took the lead RBI single by independent member that the big grin that he had no space dot and and I also remember you know it Joe Girardi was talking about this last night with us they couldn't start Matsui because there was no DH and Matsui pincette later in the game only to get it he had a home run I almost forgotten that because we had the the nominal game in the in the pennant lab in the championship clinching game well we'll we'll get into that a bit later now you you called me was some news that baseball's come out with I think it's very exciting I don't know what's going to happen but I would love you to give the the team's in the three dividend gonna have three ten team divisions the only player in your division and so Susan before we take all the money you run through the team's yellow let me run through what this all is and this came out about four o'clock Bob nightingale had a conversation with the head of the Players Association Tony Clark who by the way have said unless there is enough testing and a vaccine or something you eat so this is all pie in the sky until absolutely intelligent case but let's pretend let's because yes yeah let's pretend that everyone is going to get tested and they've they're close to a vaccine this is what they would love to happen probably around it's it's Bob nightingale says late June I had heard July first which would leave you with a hundred regular season games but this is what they would do they would play in their own major league teams I mean their own majorly parts no they will not be fans in them but they will be home they won't be in Florida Dallas in Arizona that's going to be a big sticking point with players who have already said the biggest players in this game have already said I'm not going to Arizona for four months away from my family right right if they work if it works you would play in your own stadium and the east would be the Yankees and Mets the red Sox the nats the Orioles the Phillies the pirates the blue jays Tampa and the Marlins so up and down the east coast which changes travel at considerably the west obviously would be the Dodgers and angels the giants in Oakland the Padres the Diamondbacks the Rockies the Rangers Houston and Seattle and then the middle of the country would be cubs and white Sox Milwaukee St Louis Kansas city Cincinnati Cleveland Minnesota Braves and and the Tigers and what this would do at least it would give it would give some semblance of normalcy you would be in your own home in whatever city you play it you can have your family is with you and please we are all John and I are just you know giving something to to talk about here because this Bob nightingale who usually is a pretty plugged in and obviously nothing is going to happen until there's enough there's enough testing and close to some kind of medicine or vaccine to keep people safe but you know that's the first that's the first thing John I have heard that makes any sense at all well I think it's very intriguing it just in our own division that playing the Mets and the red Sox and Washington and the Phils and Tampa a lot of good James and and I think you would see this is kind of intriguing thing to think about it whatever happens and all and I agree with you it's only going to happen when they believe it is safe no one including the players players they don't want to get the virus so I I think that's gonna be one large step before we get back at it but anyway B. F. me might intrigued by these three different divisions yes I am I think it would go very well the travel would be much easier obviously I'm in the Firth for this we go beat Tampa and Miami and the rest of the city is really pretty darn close what would love to hear your information not your ideas on any of this and obviously on on how is everybody out there I was I was only not giving at all when I said the only person I talked to was John and my dogs I mean I'm out here in the woods so I really don't have a lot of people to talk to but eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and I am told we have to take a break and we'll be right back here on WFAN this message about coronavirus which caught this moment of gratitude is brought to you by rocket mortgage in the rock family of companies we really want to thank my wife's cousin Marie who works so hard as a nurse saving others those who leave their homes to keep us safe in ours thank you yeah you guys are awesome we're sending all our love gratitude.

"Over a decade since the Yankees won a World Championship and WFAN is ringing you that playoff run we were trying to game six of the ALCS played on October twenty fifth two thousand and nine as the Yankees try to clinch the series against the Los Angeles angels of Anaheim at Yankee Stadium well Andy Pettitte leaves and the new pitchers Java chamberlain I already given you what what he has done two hundred thirds innings given up a run on seven hits and my server storage who gets the bat on the ball that's what he wants here figure my server has a quicker stroke then does math a solo map this is just been my Babe Ruth lawyers jumbo with one on one so the little switch hitter miser is tourists left hand hitter hitting against Java replaces Mathis Robert offers and the pitch is a strike so at least in this series Java has jumped ahead of Phil Hughes there's no other way to talk about it love tender Dimasa more today is upping the ante Boca no one do is tourists the bridge outside one on one FS well by the way ninety six of chamberlain is airing it out the end user to a look at it this way the Yankees are two hours away from Mariana we have a two run lead one on one out in the seventh chamberlain holds a set it'll be a one one and the pitches hi am account to anyone news tourists is a line drive into this tour is good hitter now he had about three hundred this year he's not a week cuter he's a single set of another weekend or two one Robert shortly and the pitch swung on a high file down the right field in the playoffs is tourist is two for sixteen no homers two RBIs two two two is Taurus Rivera shortly this song on one hundred seater off his glove and he steps on second does numbers not in time the bull Jeter but it caromed toward second man he's got the force and now with two outs here is well there's just a terrific heads up play by colonel who picked up the ball that Jeter had dropped and nope what is what on the basis that's just a great play by canal then tried to turn the double play too late the ball was hit hard and in front of Jeter an adjusted amount but the ball caromed econo so we'll call it a six four fours his G. to touch it so now two outs and here is hi bar a switch hitter batting left news tourists a good baserunner and speedy replaces Robert at first chamberlain deals sign in the count one and I think this is James last man alive or dead son I think you'll see mark J. the lefty turn Fagan's around and push through a break the bar is over to a switch in about a chamberlain deal stronghold chopper to short Jeter throws the first two in the seventh inning chamberlain did the job no runs one hit one left and now the end of.

"J. F. today judges Jansky right here on the phone at eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and because I had more QB on the show and not just because I had heels on who's got a terrific book out you should definitely check it out it's going to be very very enjoyable read if you're a baseball fan who grew up in the area who is just you know looking for some feel good about book before we got the news from Jeff Passan my idea who's going to be going through all time Yankee met teams that I know some people and I'm not just talking like ninety eight or not she's talking eighty six I'm talking the history of the franchise going through position by position how exactly we can go about this cell I wanted to do the Yankees first and then I figure with the Mets coming up before clock in the way I said it all okay is I set it up all time start a franchise in the franchise how did I do exactly I went with it of course all three outfielders infield catcher and I gave you DH so that way from a Yankee and a met perspective not giving an additional gotta throw in there I gave you five starting pitchers and I will give you three ball panels that's all you get you get three bullpen arms I can't go crazy how I can have a twenty five man roster that rule breaking down so let's have some fun with this the outfielder the Yankees with probably the easiest thing I needed today Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio Mickey mantle I mean it does it get easier than that now I did not break it down into like a left field center field right field specific type deal not I give you three outfielders route the Maggio mantle can't go wrong now when you feel and I thought about a couple positions that kind of had me point catcher didn't second to some extent and it doesn't matter they should stop no brainer Derek Jeter third base now this is going to upset a decent quotient of Yankee fans because they're gonna be upset to hear that a known steroid cheat is starting at third base barrel gap sundry guess the best third baseman numbers once in a storied franchise sorry look at the numbers two MVPs a World Championship in two thousand and nine now sorry guess at their base I've Jeter at shortstop now second I could go one of two ways you actually put it on one of three ways Korda put a guy like the military there I did not I could have won what Willie Randolph I ended up goal Robinson Cano more power left handed bat and I get that portion because I saw the duration of Carlos Correa put goalie the numbers could all pound for pound the end of story K. I don't care numbers where he was not tested positive in a Yankee uniform they just going to be better Randall's first base easy calls going to be Gerrick catcher stuff very very tough between yogi and bill Dickey now I ended up going with the old you could make the argument for bill Dickey it's not affect now designated hitter this to me was probably the toughest decision I had to make because either you are leaving out Reggie Jackson what don Mattingly from the starting lineup I ended up going with Mattingly it was a very very tough call and the reason I'm going with Mattingly is the duration of the career ray JI yes is remembered as a New York Yankee and yes nineteen seventy seven iconic with the three home runs nobody would argue that but Mattingly was the franchise player he was the franchise leader for over a decade one M. V. P. he won a batting title and I guess you know if you wanna flip flop Garrigan making the DH I guess good Mattingly slick fielding first baseman but I felt Mattingly needed to be in that starting lineup who knows who else that I consider for the DH was one of three gas was magically Reggie and with the and you could make it if they want to open it up numbers there listen he's not gonna win a popularity contest with don Mattingly Donnie was the favorite son when Phil was a hired gun in someone's coming over from the San Diego Padres any built all fame career but that was my toughest call in the every day lineup and yes I threw in a designated hitter now the starting pitching and you'll notice this when we do the math team coming up before caught starting pitcher for the Mets go look a whole lot better starting pitching for the Yankees now what I can roll in my starting five Whitey Ford of course hands down the board store red ruffing is to obviously before my time numbers back it up more backs it up I put red ruffing till now the final three US should know pretty well Louisiana lighting ruggedly one of my favorite Yankees all time Andy Pettitte an NFL starter former Yankee amet pitching coach and a guy who probably did not get the credit he deserved in the nineteen sixties on a whole lot of god awful Yankee teams after sixty four Mel sama so that for me is going to be my starting rotation for the Yankees Ford roughing give jury Pettit Steinmeier now the bullpen I told you I was giving you three gas I'll give you three relievers and that's how I was going to die Marana Vera number one goose Gossage number two now three I thought about this more queue Lyall is obviously going to be a choice that a lot of people want their don't be tenses and I know it's going to sound crazy gonna be like pelvic pain it's it's a really delegate passes but look for time all star somebody you could have considered you also could have considered a role Chapman if you wanted to put him on that list you could've taken Chapman who's been on the team sixteen seventeen eighteen and nineteen and has been a top reliever and you could put him there I ended up going which parking lot because I felt it would take off too many Yankee fans of I ended up goal what role does Chapman mark my words don't mark my words you easily could put japonesa if we did this team out all five years rears Chapman might be a choice that was the polarizing one for Yankee bullpen goal what while over the missile but they have it that is my Yankee all time team now if I'm going to do it which we won't know little bit involving players I've seen you to get some different names the outfield's gonna be far more complicated the pitching staff is going to be a little different the bullpens good build different so that's how I'm like drawing up these exercises and for me in order to be eligible on my all time team you had to have played after the year I was born in nineteen eighty eight Beyonce that's my balance that's why I'm giving you two I'm giving you the all time team and I'm giving you the all time team that I've seen so got to make sure we break it up each way eight seven seven thirty thirty seven sixty six sixty six let's head to the Bronx Chriss up next he's on a phallus up Chris we go in very good all loosened wouldn't when you told me is that when you said that all of them on the fan that you know you would be doing this all Tarantino so excited because a few days ago I actually texted my my group chat boards you know for a friend and I said you know what here's my old card yet you can give me your alternate number and but anyway I have a line up for you so batting first employing shortstop Derek Jeter batting second playing left field because I need the best deal with Cerner batting third and playing right field the starting forwards employment first before Garrett said since the playing field so to measure you betting six and engaging Reggie Jackson when Reggie you went Reggie over Mattingly yes it was the toughest call for me Chris I have to admit trying to figure out who that DH was going to be Chris was in the first five Emmy will lock in step Jeter Ruth Gehrig DiMaggio like having a Yankee all time team and not having those guys there is absurd you can't have it all time team well near I think Reggie and Donnie it's a very debatable topic it depends what what you value more if you are valuing that ability to rise to the occasion you're going to take a right at rugby that's really what I reward you know longevity over period where you're the best player on the team you dominate the MVP batting title you gold Mattingly cell that was a very very tough calls you won't read Jeez your DH okay here because because I wanted to collect your article white affair so I get it okay so betting something catching yogi Berra writing eight am playing second I put pony was already because if you took steroids you're automatically disqualified for Bilic I said I need you to have a different team the mind that means you got off the team and that means you have three guys on the team okay I actually would have broken if if I was including steroids I was going to sound crazy considering where kiddos career has gone now with the New York Mets putting you all from two thousand five until K. no left the Yankees in two thousand and thirteen I mean you really can't find a miserable season two thousand Ono was disappointing but basically every single one of those years Chris you're talking about two ninety twenty plus eighty ninety RBIs in a plenty of those years he had over three hundred exactly and also he was such a great deal to fill our anyway so batting ninth and claim third base I actually just put in for the goal of great battles the choice listen I don't think it's unreasonable I think if you look at a third baseman not name Alex Rodriguez I think it's got to be nettles because probably it's not for a long enough period of time Brosius was only their ninety eight ninety nine two thousand and two thousand one you're not going to go out like a quick Boyer cell you know to me if Iran is not gonna be a choice band I think it's kinda nailed by the fall yeah I I agree I agree okay and I only took one picture of what clothes of Whitey Ford earlier to give and then I actually put the well Casey Stengel because I think he was just so darn yeah I mean listen for Yankee manager and I do have a ticket at Chris to be fair you could have made it Miller Huggins you could have made you know McCarthy you could have made it Casey Stengel you could have made a joke Tory if you're really you know not valuing championships and you just want a character in the dog out and a guy who is a leader of men I would drive everybody crazy you could put Billy Martin at two really listen Billy's be loved for so many different all the reasons but as far as like just looking at like an all time manager I can't put Billy there when the championships just aren't going to match up to the other gas all year yeah especially with a team like the Yankees were like every year you know thanks but anyway thank you for taking the call JJ take care hi Chris Preciado please let him go there because my call screeners down now for a hot second I'm gonna pull it up momentarily see this is the beauty of modern technology.

"Did the Yankees due to get their man Gerrit Cole as if the nine year three hundred twenty four million dollar contract wasn't enough they brought along Andy Pettitte for their meeting California which we talked about who's a former asters Yankees pitcher that thirty pound contraption thing that we talked about last night begin keys clubhouse manager Lou cook cook cook sack played unsuspecting role the Paisano kuta definitely seal the deal for the Yankees in call because Kerr call once told him about a trip he took with his wife to feed and say Italy and a meal that they had there that included a bottle of this wine when he's manager Arent Boone walked into the room for the meaning of call he was carrying to the Cole was for close it when I came home I was telling my wife Amy how that did they pull that off not many people in the world know that that's my favorite wine I lay my head down eleven thirty that night and didn't sleep much in case you're wondering the bottle is a two thousand for my exacto firm organ and I yet bull Getty in the region of Toscana and I was interested in trying it and so I looked up and found that it cost nine hundred dollars and it's actually sold out I guess that's the gear call effect but you can try different vintage for a cool one thousand two hundred seventy six dollars per bottle I would be absolutely flattered to fire Gerrit Cole it sounds like the wind sealed the deal as soon as we walked in I wonder if they cracked open the bottles right then and there next time Scarborough's has big time client that might be tank is interest is definitely gonna be able to gauge how interested they are by the show that they put on to that player after having seen the Kerr call show there are fifty one days into pitchers and catchers everybody let's see the calls everything's on table eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six I'm the I'm a card on the fan he is mark ability yeah the.

"A. NWSA an FM New York already we are back couple of quick things before we get back to our final phone calls had an email and and we had a conversation with a call or a little bit earlier that gave some incorrect impressions Yankees wanted Cole originally and he decided that he was going to go to college in his father said don't even make an offer because that's what he's going to do is gone honors commitment so the Yankees were interested in him they did make an offer on a trade it wasn't the best offer Houston one out on that one so I think the bottom line is the Yankees have been interested in this guy all along and he's never really played with the Yankee organization so the Yankees you know let's see how interested they are whether they're willing to break the bank and break their previous vows not to go over the two hundred and forty six million dollar luxury cap which is not really a cap but attacks point whether they will say okay we we said we would never give a player more than seven years but this guy needs eight so we have to do it it'll be thirty seven when it's over we can deal with that we'll see we'll see what the Yankees to mostly what Boris does Chris Morris likes to stretch these things out mmhm and the Yankees may say Hey look we can't hold up our entire organization for one guy here's our offer this is the best we're going to do take it or leave it if you don't want it now will look elsewhere and maybe they'll go after Strasbourg or somebody else but that usually doesn't work with Scott Boras unless the client in and this is where Gary Cole as the control Gary Cole says Hey look best thing we're going to get I'm not going to wait till California comes up with a better offer take it you may or may not do that we may think that living in California not disrupting family is the more important thing for him we don't know and they're not going to tip their hand because that gives whoever it is an advantage and they don't want anybody to have an advantage they may be using the encased out the offer from Marino or whoever else is interested or they may be seriously Hey Yankees Andy Pettitte great although they're rich in White Plains is with us here on the fan rich rich thanks for taking my call jets obviously having a bad year for the people who were like calling for the head coach to be fired yeah I can understand how you can't hire and fire guy you know within a year but Adam gase doesn't really seem to support make a case for himself what it seems the like the guys doing the game knew more about how to use lead free on bail then he did and they you you know I was listening and watching the game and I forget the guy's name who is doing the game but he seemed to accurately point out that the Bengals strength is stopping the run up the middle and I watched the game as time after time after time they tried to run bell up the middle eighty got stops well if you heard Brian Costello and I understand no nobody listens to the entire show but Brian Costello explained that in that a lot of times it's the running backs call the running back runs to the line and seize okay I can cut this inside I can cut this outside and in a lot of these cases bill decided to go inside see I thought they were having better success with Paul Paul in Montgomery then they were with bell and that's not to say that they're as good as he is but their style may fifth what this team has or doesn't have in the offense of line better than his state and this was the whole thing before they got him Brian and I and everybody talked about well you know bill style is kind of hesitate see where it's going and then jump into the hole where as you know with this team you made room being mailed in the backfield if you do that you got to be more decisive quickly pick a hole and go for it or pick a creasing go forward or pick a guy to run over go for it so that's a question it's very very difficult the answer unless you have coaches film the backyard let's go to Mel on Long Island you're on the fan mail I have a giant question the third or not enjoying because I got up this morning at about nine and are you say you know we'll get our usual time here the jets how come the jets a rose on later in the giants are on early that's basically all the teen always available at eight o'clock and Brian Costello is available at nine that's not really our decision it's you know they've got their schedules they've got the things that they have to do in terms of covering the teams and and if they were I was under the impression they were paid employees so you could tell them you know this is we want to change it occasionally it should always be the same way well in in you know frankly on weekends eight o'clock might be a better time than nine I mean if you're saying we're putting the jets ahead of the giants by putting them on at nine o'clock you know was listening patterns eight o'clock may have more listeners the nine o'clock so that's that's the issue there I mean look what we you know we have any comment on a forty five generally Sweeney Marty comes on at nine twenty we favoring the Mets the Yankees it's just the way the schedule worked out it's no particular rhyme or reason to it at least on my level that I don't know about and you know if people have certain things in certain obligations I mean Paul as obligations Brian Costello has obligations to the New York Post is primary employer so if his duties for the post say that he can't come on earlier then so be it that's kind of the way it works it's going to John and breezy point here on the fan John good morning which is always a pleasure primary questions by saying that I'm a giants fan since nineteen sixty two and I'm a little bit two or more than a little bit irked about the comments made by yours Jenkins not only have I seen this guy torched on numerous occasions a couple years ago in consecutive games against the rambling of forty nine is still going to giants will clone out this guy was deliberately avoiding making tackles engine dropping it in general we saw this year when there was an opportunity to make a tackle any kind of a lady yeah I mean yeah no doubt about it I mean I mean you know if you want cool Hey listen from years ago the guy strong if you live in the city in the a and he's going to make the calls on defense in considering his who's who's our his history is is just it's not going to make well I mean if he's got a problem with that sooner and and his calls and the way he's being used you should take it up with his defensive coordinator and his head coach and not the you know complain the to the media and complain to teammates Hey you know I should be in coverage more I should go to the other side more if that's where they need me that that's something that you truly should try to keep internal problems with them all along I mean he's a talented cover guy for the most part but he gets beat a lot too and I know they think highly of him I am I'm not sure exactly why because to me he's kind of a pain in the neck and if he was a great great corner I can see all right you got to put up with some stuff to put up with a great great corner but I don't see him being that let's go to robin Kingsburg around fan rob I just want to say I'm a mom so much until a Gloria calm conversational sports talk show W. W. two hundred Bucks poll shows on the planet full of more calm conversation anyway I will only benefit history books it's as if the fascinating and I know this is a very far fetched but early on and it's on the side of the P. on Sundays because college football so much more popular they were those again I'm so sick and tired of missing the eight o'clock something like in them for thirty games we have a real like I'm looking for the patriots on the twenty first four thirty the point in the bowl Saturday night do you see any chance in the next century and if all goes the salaries of the much more popular than culpable well you know they do go to Saturday's late in the season you know one college football is pretty much over there will be Saturday games and of course when the playoffs come there are Saturday games as well but I don't think they want to step on college football's toes college football his turned into a very nice minor league teams and I fell that's not their intense but that's pretty much what it's come they kind of work hand in hand they have the draft and all that kind of stuff so I think they're going to avoid that but you know when there isn't anything going on a call like this weekend I mean big conference championships and seating and all that for the final four they're not gonna want to step on that but after that yeah they've they have Saturday games for sure let's go to Pat in east Hanover you're on the fan Pat hello Pat are you there apparently not let's try Ian in Belmar New Jersey you're on the fan he and Hey Richard outgoing happy Saturday happy Saturday to you Sir what's doing I'm not much I'm actually on my way to the the Saint John's what Virginia game go Johnny okay what's the matter or garden but anyway so my job I'm big giant that obviously this season has been the herbal I'm not sure I can look in the press conference anymore because it's just like a broken record so do you think in your opinion would get a minute the GM with a great relationship with the riverboat wrong of there do you think you bring the men because I think that is the perfect set up because head coaches are hard to find someone experienced or if he I don't really want to college coach I don't think that that the giants I think Rivera the giant good relationship with the GM and what someone picked the defense locally so I am one well I mean I I I have watched from there a lot I don't like using game strategy I think at some point she's way too conservative other points east riverboat Ron taking too many chances but he does motivated team any is a pretty solid coach and given charmers record he probably would get more out of the team then Schirmer has been able to do self having said that let's see what happens at the end of the year but to Ron Rivera I don't think is going to have trouble finding another job is very well respected well that's it for me thank you so much for tuning in and again let me refer you to Richard near dot com you wanna hear Christmas.

"Second thing is is that forever. The Yankees have always basically handled injuries by telling the players. Look, we just wanna make sure you're okay for down the stretch into October. And so of Stanton needs. You know, extra two weeks he'd be needs an extra three weeks, if he needs an extra month, they're going to handle this conservatively in part, and I think that they would do that anyway. But they have now an enormous lead in the American League, which allows them to do that. Yeah, yeah. No needed all the Russian back six and a half over Tampa nine over Boston, they've obviously done very well all season without Stanton. So you want to get him ready for October. I know Yankee fans are going to be critical of Stanton and his production last year in the injuries. You're better team with a healthy stand in the light of, you know, the Yankees want him there, knock Tober. So let's get an healthy get him ready. And I hope he comes back in as a forest because baseball's better with Stanton, mashing home runs. Tell me what you think so far of an it's a it's probably a stupid question, based on how well it succeeding at the time I made the trade amid very clear, I wouldn't have done it. If I was sitting in Kasmin shoes for Edwin Encarnacion for me it makes a line of two right handed. But man, you can't argue with the results of this point. No. Yeah. That trade seemed a little odd at the time because in a way, you're sort of, I guess, pushing Clint razor Brett Gardner, ultimately out of the lineup. But yet now with this injury and Colonel. The oh, looks like a, a huge addition, so moral the story, I guess you can never have. Too much depth. Even for the New York Yankees. All right. So I'm sitting here in London stadium as they say, doing sound check in the background, is we talk the Yankees getting ready for batting practice. A lot of their players filtering out on the field taking look Andy Pettitte just stop by to say, hi. Aaron Boone waiting for batting cracks begin standing with Cashman is since I'm here I just wanna turn the tables a little bit. You had any questions about this venue things that I've seen so far fire away? Well, I mean, we all got to know our Harry and Megan going to be watching this game in person. That's all fans care about. Yeah. Well, apparently Harry is going to be here in person on Saturday. And you know I asked if he was going to somehow Rangel, so that Harry would be his booth with him for a couple of innings, but I'm guessing that's probably not going to happen. And unfortunately he's not going to be your on Sunday for our broadcast on ESPN, which is ten AM east coast time. I was kinda hoping that the Queen would some point would make an appearance, but there's no no schedule for that. Maybe she's not a ball fan, Dave. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe not, you know, cricket and soccer and darts, you know, probably more per alley. I have a question, you know, the, the games are sold out, but doing no, the breakdown of how many of those fans are just Red Sox and Yankees fans coming over on vacation. And how many are actually purchased by fans in England? No. I don't know the exact rate down. You know, I was told today at the park. Yes, sixty thousand fans there may have been fifty six thousand tickets sold was some discrepancy in the numbers. I've heard I actually did in man on the street type interviews yesterday. We went down to the West End, and asks Londoners about it, and some of the responses were awesome, that's going to be played on Sunday..

"And so he's very difficult to forecast. So I want to look at three four years down the line, which veterans committee. I want to look at guys who are legitimately on a ballot and USB about Andy Pettitte who is one of my favorite all time. Baseball players. Love Andy Pettitte. I have to be fair. Andy Pettitte is not a hall of fame pitcher. Any has a career array of like three eight three three five. It's not worthy of Cooperstown. And that's okay. Listen, not wrong with that anybody's got a lot of records as far as the Yankee record book. He deserved this be retired out monument park. Had no problem with that. Pedestal whole fan. Borough on and Mike Mussina got it. You're mentioning guys. The top pitchers of the generation. Remember the criteria is going to change dramatically. For starting pitchers. Why? Who's getting the three hundred wins in this day and age don't tell me now when you judge and pitchers twenty years from now thirty years from now forty years from now that furniture wins because nobody's going to get. They're gonna be really really difficult thing about how long CC Sobat is pitched in baseball. All the way back two thousand one. Cici right now. Pull up the statistics for the big fell. Cici right now has two hundred and forty six three seven oh era. That was inflated because of thirteen with a four seven eight fourteen with a five to eight and fifteen with a four seven three. In this day and age what he accomplished with the Cleveland Indians. The Milwaukee Brewers in a New York Yankees. I think he's going to have a hall of fame resume really though. So I would say Clemens to I answer your question. My next answer would be no, I do not see Andy Pettitte. Would a plaque in Cooperstown hall of fame? I'd be very surprised five thirty seven here on this early Sunday. It's JJ after dark jazzy Stransky Jimmy company right here on the fan. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six come right back. Right. I mean that's.

"In brooklyn. Hey, hey, guys. How you doing? Hi Cal at Mogollon in a while. Listen, I gotta just comment on something. It was probably a already commented many things about this item on vino thing. How does a guy comment get signed by the most prestigious world renowned sports franchise in the world get signed by nominating criticizes, the most iconic baseball figure getting defend himself, obviously. But instead of concentrating on striking Babe Ruth out while you concentrate on making more than one or two all star teams striking people out and his current point while I agree shouldn't bring it up. It's just a stupid argument to have his point wasn't ripping Babe Ruth was saying guys, basically from the twenties and thirties couldn't hit the pitching of today was really comment on that. And I'm a former athlete myself on the fifth year old man, I train every day. If there's so much bigger faster and stronger, which they are. Doesn't mean they're better. And why are they bringing the fences in every year, and why aren't guys completing as many games, not even close if there's so much bigger faster and stronger treated differently? And to your argument to defend your side of this if Babe Ruth played in two thousand eighteen he'd be working out. Jim it would be different eating properly. No question. So to just pop yourself into nineteen twenty seven while you've got all the benefits of eighteen. Right. That's exactly right. Trivia contest because I can Google things. And those guys can't because they don't even know what a cell phone is. Right. It's a different time. My only point was to our last caller was he wasn't necessarily ripping Babe Ruth himself. He was ripping the arrow really talking about the differences. So it's not like, you said, Babe, Ruth, socks and everywhere. There's no reason to rip the era the era either era either. And it really isn't. I agree. I mean, what are you gaining by that, you know, he can't compare baseball in one thousand twenty seven to baseball twenty. Now, you just can't twenty nine thousand nine can't do it. Of course. Not. And it's just it's simplistic because those guys Jimmy Foxx. We'll use him as an example, Jimmy FOX is going to treat his body differently. Anyway, nineteen. These guys just a smoke. Yeah. Like, you know, serious smokers, right? And then you can walk over to Jimmy FOX and see Jimmy. I gotta show you something. And he's like what what are you show me? And I show them this ipad, right? And he says, oh, yeah. I can track every pitch you've seen in nature. Throws. Oh, he's got that too. Now can actually watch the pitcher really? I mean, come on. It's a different time. We know about the differences. It was also bigoted times when fortunately, FOX and Baber. I always liked the point this out. Babe Ruth did barnstorm you did with a lot of the great players like satchel page. Yeah. They didn't count with any staff that we have they did face each other at least, which is cool to think about Rick and Danbury. Hi, rick. Hey, guys. The only thing a couple of things about Andy Pettitte thing. One is. Could be wrong. But I don't think left-handed pitcher who won a hundred games more than he lost has made all things so far. So that's one thing he should have going in his favor. The only gone him, really. It's DRA career. But when you look at his wins. He's only got ten wins less than that. So I I mean when you look at the post season thrown in I think he is. Borderline hall of fame and people are giving them credit for he's born line hall of fame. I just don't think he's all famous. I didn't think Messina was either. What's what's the ER? A it's not that big a difference. Visit ERA wise not monstrous within the it's three eight five, and I think with Mike Massimino sixty six eight. Yeah. So it's not that big a difference. The winds are very tough to take. I mean, the guy was on an amazing team for fifteen years. Now, he wasn't on the Mets. I wasn't on some lousy team. That's why this win thing. And I know a lot of people love to bring it up because that's the way it always was I can't take it. That's like that's the reason why is in the hall of fame because he was on the Yankees. And they scored a lot of runs for me had the best closer in the history of Houston too. The pitch for the Asheville. Did don't you think? The Astros were good. They won the pennant. How many years three years? So the only one that one. Yeah. But they were in the LCS the year before that they lost out was the unit that pool sit to homerun actually one didn't two thousand four was the year. They just lost to the cardinals seven, right? The following year. Right. Andy missed a big chunk of two thousand four I don't even know if he pitched in the playoffs there. I gotta check that out. You know, he didn't even in the playoffs. Got hurt. Okay. He was on some very good teams throughout his career set aside his record as that being the region. At least for me. I don't buy. I do think he's borderline now. I really do Matin easthampton, Matt. How are you? Hey, guys doing what's up man on the corner? But I is Jerry series watcher put everybody logo on every single hat, and all that's gonna look ridiculous. He's crazy. Yeah. Yeah. You can't Jerry Recco. Anyway. So I was fortunate enough to David Cohen perfect. Later on the Red Sox Labor Day weekend Sunday night, then why not loose and we talked that game. Yeah. Oh, I didn't. Real well in that game. They what was the ninth. Yeah. And I was like perfect seven and moose was I never broken up. Call everett. No, no, no. But we did we did mention that already as much as we love for you to listen to every second of the show, we understand that it's impossible with some people. Xiaomi neither. Well, it was incredibly well pitch game. There's some regular season games that stick out in your memory. And that one was one of them. There was another one Pedro. The chili Davis at the home run. Yeah. See struck out seventeen. That's game was probably the best game. I've seen pitched that was not a no hitter in bedroll was unbe ninety nine ninety nine that game game. Just completely jumps out of you know, what's up there? There was a great question greatest well game without being a no hitter a perfect game. And we were there in Tampa Bay flaw Dickey. That's right. Like a bunch single in the first inning, right? Right. That.

MLB -- Why Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens aren't getting into the Hall of Fame

"They get in. But I think it's going to be tight. I also find it ironic that the new voters might decide if bonds and Clements get in. So the new voters who didn't cover bonds and Clemens could decide if bonds and Clemens get into the hall of fame, and if they get in a Rod's going to get in we can start to go down the list. I don't know if Andy Pettitte gets in Sammy Sosa gets in five years ago. I thought this would never happen with bonds Clements it felt like with the old guard. They were not going to let them in because they were the keeper of the flame there at the whole of fame the holes doors open to players who will once thought not to even have, you know, even have a chance here in bonds and Clemens they have a chance a very good chance over the next three years. I love the reaction with Mary on a Rivera Seton. If we could play that that. This is the actual phone call. And if you've ever been around Marianna Rivera that he is who he appears to be from a distance. If you're a fan, and you see him, he's as classy as any athlete I've ever been around as nice as anybody I've ever been around. And no ego. Here is the call from the hall for Marian Rivera. Hello. Here's this. America. That the writers of elected baseball. Thank you. Thank you, sir. And so finally for the D H is a hall of Famer, which is really cool. Curt Schilling got sixty one percent of the vote didn't make Roger Clemens fifty nine point five Barry Bonds, fifty nine Manny Ramirez. Twenty two percent. Gary Sheffield thirteen percent Andy Pettitte nine point nine percent. Jason bay zero percent. He got a phone call as well. Hello. Hello. Speak with Jason bay. Please. This is Jason. You know what dude? Yeah. I tell you that that's unfortunate. Yeah. They do the same thing. Do they do the same thing with with football players that they knock on their door. I don't know. Then they don't let people know that. They didn't make it. Right. We have the call the boomers. Oh, really? Hello. Hello. May I speak with boomer Boomer Esiason. I'm calling to tell you that. "You want to get into the hall of fame. Let's do it. Tony in queens. Tony what's cooking, bud? M b. You know? Guys. I'm like junkie. Listen to you guys a great appreciate that. Then. So what I wanted to call about this two things. First of all. First of all, I think. Easiest thing in baseball to do reality tonight, then but also things. I'm a mess bay. I'm telling you watch Marianna envy that I didn't have that guy. On a percentage should be. My second thing is about the. I was listening to you guys with Tom and how he feels but he should also feel. There was a list of all plays that never came out. And we'll never ever come out. So how can he feel that about question? Okay. Well, I can understand where he's coming from publicly connected to it. I mean, that's kind of a Yata. No, it's not because Thomas. Don would say. Not too could have been on that list. List that David Ortiz ball players. But we never knew that is going to be David. David Ortiz right now is not connected to it. He was on. He denied that list. That supposedly was on. The Mitchell report was was he was supposedly on the Mitchell report, I believe Klis. Something was supposed to be, you know, unnamed actress the same one that Alex Rodriguez. Got caught right, right? Right. Right. Okay. Let's bring it out. Why not bring it out? Let's be fair about it. Listen, it might work against David Ortiz. But at the same time, I just think that. It really is a very slippery slope. Very very slippery slope as to what goes on between. Guys that have definitively been connected to it. And guys that we just think calf. Can I ask a question? Yeah. Can I be brutally honest. This is one of my least favorite topics. Know. With other hall of fame football there's controversy but not like this with basketball. We don't even know who votes. Let alone how they're selected right? If we didn't have the steroid controversy, whether it be bat is this actually good for baseball keeps us talking about. It keeps people engaged it keeps people engaged, but I can't say it's good because I think it's getting stale. Let's go to jail for years. Hey, I'm good. How would you guys? You guys need to be on longer. That's the first thing. I'm gonna say, thank you. So you're welcome. So I wanna talk about this whole steroid thing. Now Joe level. We'll probably never gonna see again. So baseball should be held accountable because after the strike happened. They had no one going to the games attendance, downright benefited the owners the owners benefit from this. And I don't feel these guys should be penalized for something that wasn't legal to take and bonds. How do we know when he took it, you know, my mind, and he took it after ninety eight, but there's so many guys they may have took it the hardest thing is sports database for okay? And how do we know steroids is good enhance that? Because we never seen numbers. Like, Barry Barnes many. You know, and this guy's never Jack Lemmon. He was big guy on Oakland. Couldn't get the ball, the safest. But and you know, they might be so many more of those guys these guys should not be held accountable. And why you should not play God the lucky guys. These guys have the numbers there dare. And like you said. There's no controversy any other sport. So why does it have to be this way in baseball? You know, I'm never going to see these numbers. I played the game. You know, it's hardest thing to do. You know, these guys because they were allowed to the O'Hare should be the ones accountable and social Felix because he's the one who turned the eye, and then he tried to read a rod and now all the other guys on that west. They're never gonna be banned. But Gabriel cheese. Should he be allowed and go to hold the same? When he's name was on their list. He moaning complained to get his name off that list. It's absurd. You guys should be just allowed in the hall of fame. You know, what happened the number two? There is a good point. I think the I think the tipping point for a lot of people was Seelig get did he get he got in right field and getting in. And then also like the Bobby Cox, Tony LaRussa and a lot of the managers who were presiding over the steroid era getting in because listen, it's gotta be hard for you to convince me that managers of baseball teams had absolutely no idea when this kind of stuff is happening in the clubhouse. It's happening in the club. House that they had no clue that this was going on or the guys were potentially hurting themselves here or that they were whatever cheating the game. However, you want to say it. I mean now nothing. No, budgeting Bobby Cox was like listen. Yeah. Let's talk about morality here. I think he was like we need you know, what you gotta do to get on the field. I think is the plausible deniability. It is. I don't want to know what's going on. I'm that dumb. I'm looking at it. We can put Joe Torry on mullet. That was too. We're winning games. You can put any manager on that list. They didn't want to know. I absolutely did not want to know the guys that I find the most interesting right now. Are the ones that? Got pegged for instance, if you're Alex Rodriguez. And also never failed the test. Right. So if you're gonna use the if you're not gonna vote for Manny because he failed the test that's one thing. But are you gonna vote for a rod who admitted it eventually? But that's the thing. A rod who got really really singled out and era. It's no good guy. Don't get me wrong. But I'm curious as to how. Frankly, pissed off guys like that are about the people that never got a sniff who they knew they knew. We're absolutely the guys who were probably in a ready or about to be in who they knew were using. Through the same people. Because honestly, I mean, it's it's one thing when you look at like, the body type, and yeah, you look at guys and just have that bloated muscle. Look, you know, where the muscles. Just look like they're water or whatever. But then you have other guys who were perfectly normal looking, quote unquote, who were thin guys who are getting pop diva. Now, who's the guy from the Marlins? Police officer, Gordon, Gordon like Gordon looks like he's about one hundred twenty pounds. You can't tell and for anyone who says they can I feel like yeah. You have the obvious ones. Like, I said bonds head getting bigger as fee getting better bigger. That's weird. But different drugs work on different people in different ways, Jim in south Brunswick. Jim what's going on, buddy? Trivia. Don't realize it seventy percent of the games. More modern was first baseman second. Hey, Mark seven years since. I about how. To these players to buy players. Sixty. Wow. That's pretty remarkable. I'd have to go back and think about that some more. But if that's true that'd been that. Yet. I mean, just on the surface. It sounds oughta present true last hole. Whole. And now they're going to get two years. And know. Down the road. Hall of Famer. It sounds like you're often get a wind tunnel somewhere. Yeah. Not. The hall of fame player. Andy Pettitte a hall of Famer, I don't think so I don't know. And does the fact that he admitted it does that make? To me. It's not even a debate Andy pendants, not now I didn't put them off Kevin in east meadow. Kevin what's going on good afternoon? Guys. How you doing? Yeah. Getting back to Andy Pettitte Andy Pettitte the hall of Famer Tommy John it's a hall of Famer. But that's not why I'm calling. I'm gonna talk about Jeff can't. Yeah. Jeff can't should be family. There's no question. No question about Jeff can't be in the hall of fame. I don't know why he's not getting enough votes. It's very thirty. What am I mentioned this earlier? The criteria of when you think of someone are they automatically a hall of Famer though, I'm a big believer in that. When I think of Jeff can't I think he's a hall of fame player because I remember how good he was. I don't think a lot of people think it's so subjective though, you can't use that you're better than someone else's. You know what I mean? But I'll be honest with you, this is what goes this is why I'm not surprised that one hundred percent a first ever unanimous vote would come to a specialist because other people Maggie it shouldn't come to a specialist if Willie Mays Ted Williams or Mickey Mantle are not unanimous selections. Nobody I get it. But I'm talking about in reference to Jeff Ken. So this is where I'm going with like someone like Jeff Ken who authencity? Yes, was the best second best second basement. I guess I mean top top three or three or four right offensively at his position. But did have such a big deficiency. Defensively. Pop three or four look at the stats. He also has the defensive side of the ball. So that's what I'm talking about. There are holes that you can poke in the Jeff can resume because he did lead the National League in errors. Because I know Tom Purdue she said the defensive metrics are not perfect. But there are you also saw that with your own eyes. Right. As much as he saw Ken was good at the plate. You saw at his own and with your own eyes that he was good defensively. No. He was it. But you know, what I I'll I'll throw another name out dacha this person played five positions wasn't all star five possessions. Pete Rose, Pete Rose should be banned. Kevin. Good day, sir. Can't or.
