"Ball a little bit high in his foot in the yanked it a little bit Kinda happened is during the game. He kinda develop that and it was hard to hard to get out of it during the game but his pre game was excellent. He actually hit through sixty two yards in pre-game. That's why we tried to sixty two yard in the game. And plus it's pretty you wanna see you know how we can you know what his leg is. It's not you know it's not something you probably do in a regular season game you in that situation but it was good to see you know. He almost made it. I mean he was probably about a yard and have short. So we're we're happy with where bucker is right now. You one hundred percent today on a lot of kicks. So he's he's going to be fine. We are very shepherd you know. You've mentioned laughing. He's he's he's he's a solid catcher and i count on him. He's gonna he's gonna catch the ball. Great talking punt returns He he didn't get an opportunity kick. Return. we're going to try to get him one this week But you know he's a solid catcher to get north and south. You know we're still waiting to see. I wanna see that burst know that the nfl burst. You want you want to see that and you'll probably get more opportunities this week next again. Put someone in there to evaluate not. I mean it's practice. It's glorified practice really what it is. We we need to find out about guys you know so got to put them in there in the situations and find out if they can do it if they can't do it you'll see a little bit more of the ones for us like our ones you know the first kickoff first punt you'll see you only got one rep last game this this game. They'll get through. Maybe even three the fours will probably get a little bit less. That's the way we work it. You know throughout the preseason. I think it's huge. I think it's always knew we had has the talent. He has the talent about transferring and it was good to see that he's able to do. I think it's it's only going to help them. The experience that he had.

"Take you. we're ready. we're ready whenever you are. Just cy young hallway. Now i see on the screen. I think Look at all good. Happy to be out there practicing. I don't have much say. I'm just going to open it up fire way. It's good to see everybody. It's good to be doing one of these so appreciate everybody being here. Go first adaptation steve. How're you doing today. great good. Hey we're talking last week to Hitchens into tyrant. And they were talking about the emphasis. You're putting on fixing the red zone defense team better in the red zone. Are there some components that are really important to be a good red zone defensive team are there things you look at and say if we do this well we're gonna we're gonna play well down there evening. General ones adam. Low what we did just in general playing good zone defense. Yeah i mean the first thing to me is we always says we don't want to allow teams to run the ball. We really do want to force them to throw it and then have tight coverage down there. The throwing lanes get tight. We all know that everybody that knows football so he tried to force them into thrown in those tight windows. So that's that would be the first thing You know in these kinds of practices. We obviously don't get run so we can't really work on that they'll come and training camp and preseason games but then the second thing is just everybody be on the same page. The third thing to me is is where the league football in general has gone in the red zone especially in a tight red zone with all the i'm gonna call it option football. We call it swaps and seals and tight ends coming coming across. Behind the line of scrimmage. There is a lot of aging football nowadays. And you gotta make decisions on zone man as you put up on the line so we're working through all of that and hopeful that we can get better and i you know if we had just played fifty percent better in the red zone last year made a huge difference in certainly points allowed and i think we were terrible terrible and points allowed but certainly when people get in the red zone. It was a challenge for us. Sam mcdowell was a sam last week. Gandhi mentioned that he thought one of the. You're under the radar signs. This year was Was jarran reed. I'm wondering what he allows you to do on the defensive line specifically Wraps with with moving chris around a little bit. yeah. I tell you what sam what we're really trying to figure that out To be quite honest with you in it's gonna take a little bit of time but listen. I remember when he was at alabama. Good friend that Actually trained him as you got ready for the combines. We have mutual friend coach. I have a lotta respect for. And i've always liked him as player so i'm glad we got him. We've had them here a few days here. And i tell you he attacks in the other day. I just really liked the way. He handles himself here. Practice see serious about football. He knows to lighten it up right now. In the short amount of time. I've had where i really loved the personality. The attitude and what he gives us football player to coach could see new is always you tour two questions for you. The first one year bringing kendra joleon will was your reaction to be reunited with them on the we started with you as defensive coordinator. Yes saint louis. Yeah well i you. Ken flagel wage. Yeah yeah he's we laugh about what about calling that just kidding around. Sometimes so i'm gonna tell. Tell them that you said that's our telling you but he'll he'll affeldt funny that's like nobody can pilots miami. Neither you guys figured out after a while but listen. Can i have known each other for a long time. Andy new away before. I did But i got to know him at the same time. I got to know andy when they were on the staff. You tap together missouri. He's been in a illegal long time like you said he was defensive coordinator forest in saint louis and i just got a great deal of respect for him. I think he's just going to be a a great sounding board for me. Another set is somebody that's had a lot of experience in this league and on game day i know. Can we run together on the sideline. He's really good on game day with certain things. Dow run schemes with the offense is trying to do to us. So i'm looking forward to that. And you know he knows. Matt brendan a lot of these guys. So it's kinda pretty comfortable Him just coming here. It's been great. He's been great to have in the second half the coaches. Obviously you've got young linebackers here in willie gay as well as mc bolton excitement level as you wash them and what kind of feedback are you getting from your friend. I'm not gonna inside of house. Call it yeah you come. Chen chen Listen madhouse does a great job at those guys. I really get my feedback from that on the linebackers and he does. He's been doing a terrific job. Both those guys were really excited to have an really looking forward to what they can do. I mean let's not forget willie. Gay didn't have any preseason games last year. Now nichole get a benefit of that this year We're going to try to find ways to get him on the field that might take a little while You know the volume of defense is probably catching up with the both of them right now. You know we've asked Willy to play two different spots. Salmon will that's typical in the nfl. Just like we do with really all ambassador except for except hitch But we're glad we got him both. We're looking forward to what they can do. Well as to pietinen sir in the good to see you get to so last year we saw you know no brillant at the beginning of the year because of the suspension obviously not here anymore How much of a desire is there to push legit to the outside and if so in that what happens in that slot position and he was meeting last year. Yeah a great question people. Before i answer it i just got this. I got throw this observational. I don't see any defensive. i'm looking at the back behind. You can see fifteen fifteen fifteen dollars defensive to work on that. Yeah work on that now. I forgot your question. Jerry is to the yeah. Yeah well i tell you what i think back in philadelphia. We had bobby taylor. What we do with. Bobby is he played outside and the four gb packages and then he moved in and the five db so we go that route. A little bit is going to depend upon the. I'm gonna just say the next corner that surfaces or is there a next corner that surfaces if we need to keep them on the outside. We'll do that. I think until then will probably work them at both men. Just see where it goes. We really need to find out what we have in the quote unquote other corners. If.

"The one of the most unique offenses in football. And i know people say well. What about andy reid. Yeah i understand but any reid is still a pass. First offense which is what the rest of the league is trying to do. And the rest of the league of copying andy reid anyway. So andy reid. Really has the common pence in the lake. So you really look at the ravens offense and what they do with the mark jackson and some of those running backs and the option and the quarterback iran's not really throwing the ball because you did have a lack of weapons this is vastly different way. I think that orlando around is going to be playing. What was right tackle and left tackle and you know what else does is it emphasizes that andy heck is a good offensive line coach. You know the struggles. The chiefs have had with offensive line. over the years since andy reid arrived here. People tend to throw shade. At andy hack. But i think what it shows what we have seen from what the chiefs have done since eighty read arrived. Is that andy. Heck is an outstanding defensive line coach because the chiefs have not invested a lot of resources into the offensive line. And yet they've been able to get starters out there some of whom we've played very well. I mean do does lauren. Do rene tardif become a starting. nfl player. If you don't have a good offensive line coach now does eric fisher become a quality starter in the nfl with unequality offensive. Line coach. no he doesn't because he's undersized and all those things andy heck has made these guys work. And i think it's important for us to mention that this guy is really a fine coach. Yeah and the point. That isn't talked about as much with. L. d. t. and making him into a starter for multiple years. Is that the canada rules.

"In the parade after they got off the boat and got back on land. Little trash talking going on, their general manager said. They're going to win it again. Others similar comments and stances. Something like that. You say way to go like the confidence go out and do it, boys or be careful. We know you won this year, but it doesn't guarantee you anything for next year. I like the confidence and I thought really scared for the TV producers who were broadcasting those speeches after the drunken boat trips because absolutely let it fly. If you want to see it, but I mean, I'm with it. I like the confidence. I'm not gonna sit here and say, Be careful because we saw it with Tom Brady went to Tampa. He got a lot of people to come with them. You know, Antonio Brown on Monday for network Bonkowski, a bunch of guys. And I'm starting to think you know this wasn't a one year thing. I think the Buccaneers are going to be aggressive and free agency in terms of re signing their guys and trying to bring some other people on board to run it back. I mean, that's that's the kind of confidence that the franchise has that with Tom Brady under center, and we know Tom Brady is one of the best contenders in the end of an NFL history and Every single year for for him. Is Lombardi. Your bus? So I mean, I love to see the confidence. I'm all about it. And now that change a want some, you know, Mark use, you know, maybe he's considering Tampa for a potential landing spot to end his career. Now we know that Brady when he was in New England was never the highest paid quarterback, although he was the acknowledged goat, and he's already signed for next year, But he could renew his deal and maybe take a little bit less, But they've got some high quality positional pre agents. They're hitting the market for the first time. They want to get their payday. Can they be victimized by free agency? Guys say I got my ring now I got to get my check. Yeah, when you bring that up the name that kind of comes from my mind is Jack Barrett and you know he didn't have as good of the season as he did in his first year with the Buccaneers, but she was still important defensive player in terms of brushing the pastor and also just being the leader on this team. And you came out recently and said, You know, I played under the franchise tag. I think it's now time for me to quote break the bank now. So with the book in years like You said, they have a kind of interesting and talented free agents that they have to explore resigning, But In my mind. I don't think they're gonna be able to get everyone and that's why I think shot their truck. Lee Smart to test the open market because we know these pass rushers can definitely make sure money. When they're talking to different teams of free agency. They're valued highly so shocked parents gonna have my eye on. I think the Buccaneers will do a good job of keeping that court together first show, But like I said, they can't keep them all and I think shack there it might be playing for a new team and 2021. Fair enough. One way a soup bowl question and we'll move on to a couple other things. You're talking to about his big Anandhi refinished you're gonna find I caught him for a decade and a half in Philadelphia like the guy a lot. Glad to see one at last year. I think it cemented his place in the Hall of Fame coach for the stunt his entire career. I thought he and his staff were woefully out coached last week by the Bucks and their staff, and I made a big deal about it in game I was on during the game and might show ended just before the Super Bowl itself ended here on CBS last week. And I thought, And he kind of got a free pass after the game was over and done with because everyone was celebrating the Buccaneers and Brady and his accomplishment. Where you as critical of Andy Reid as I was, And do you think That he kind of got Ah little bit of a break here, and not many people did note and or Harang, the fact that his team was woefully out coached in the biggest game. Yeah, I agree in the sense of its objective that he was outcoached and you know, I think in certain position groups were outcoached as well. I mean, namely the offensive line and Andy Heck, you know, he was a guy. We talked to moving up to the Super Bowl. And he said, You know, he wasn't worried about the shuffling his offensive line yet again, but Sure enough, it really It really affected the Super Bowl. The sense of Patrick Holmes was basically running for his life on every play. We're going back to Andy Reid for a second. I mean, he opened was dealing with what kind of is a personal tragedy outside of this as well. And I wonder how much that kind of affected the chief And any reader as well. But you are right in saying that he was outcoached. The 10th grade Buccaneers finally got dance. This is really interesting and kind of a sad situation that was happening with the chief's off of the field reading into Sunday. I know I hate to bring it up, but I was kind of wondering how much that affected them. May very well and I know that it is probably another reason why Andy Reid didn't hear about it as much as I thought he might, because I thought he was well coached in that game. Um, you mentioned JJ Black. He gets on the free agent market ahead of everybody else because he gets released from his contract with the Texans. They weren't up to paying him 17 million this year, so They decide to do the right thing by him and let him go. I had a time. J. J. Watt is going to try and take advantage of that. But the question is, what is JJ Watt worked at this stage of his career. He's the formerly defensive player of the year in the National Football League multiple times. That's just not the case anymore. I'm not sure his market develops just like that, and that there could be a quick signing, or am I reading the market wrong? First off a J. J. What? You know, I thought it was so interesting how they just released him because I would have traded them. I mean, you 100% could have gotten something in return for them. The Texans say that they're doing them a favor by letting him get a chance to jump on the free agency market. But That doesn't make sense because they probably could have gotten a deal done quickly gotten at least something in return. And this is a business as well. I mean, come on. You don't see many teens getting parting gifts the players on their way out. You need to get return for what you are parting ways with But in terms of his market, I mean, we already found report last night, saying that a dozen teams are interested in changing lot. Of course, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns, the Buffalo Bills, the Tennessee Titans were the four that were named trumped by ESPN. Edward ER. In terms of his contract since there's a market out there for him, you know, I don't think he's going to get 17 5, but he was set to make but I agree that there is definitely somewhere some legitimate reason to give. You pause in terms of his ability, moving forward, and if you want to give him a multiyear contract and how much money that would be worth, but just based on the fact that there is a market out there for him that He's going to get a decent deal in my mind, and he's gonna have you no control of which he signs with us Well, so I have interested to see you know how negotiations go with the teams that he's interested in. And how much how much money he'll get that contract as well. Well, one thing that was good about Katya. Get released Was it got our mind off the quarterback carousel for 10 minutes this week every ever since the Gulf and Stanford trade came down rumors on a day in day out basis about who's not happy who may want to move. Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers. We know that the Eagles shopping Carson Wentz too short. Watson is well on record that he wants no part of going back to the Texans. But the taxes while releasing JJ Watt said, Oh, by the way, Yeah, he joins going nowhere..

Russell Wilson Aaron Rodgers Jack Barrett Patrick Holmes Andy Reid Tom Brady Cleveland Browns JJ Watt Pittsburgh Steelers Andy Heck Buffalo Bills Tennessee Titans Eagles 17 million Monday JJ Black J. J. Watt ESPN Katya 10 minutes

"How are you? I'm good. How are you, My man? Good trying to figure out exactly how I feel about this game. I mean, I'll just tell you I think this is a close game and I think this comes down to the wire three points. Two point something like that. Let's start off with injuries. Alright, how healthier the chief's right now they were a little bit banged up two weeks ago. Libyan Bell, Sammy Watkins, the most important players will they be playing today? Well, Belle is an interesting one because he hasn't really done a whole heck of a lot here. He's the second like name running back that's come to Kansas City in the last two years and kind of just stood on the sidelines and didn't contribute much, But you know, it's to the point of the season where if you're capable of going, you better get out there and play and it's time for you to get out there and play and Sammy Watkins is Kind of the big name and all of that, And you know, the guy doesn't do much during the regular season, but his postseason man have been just so awesome. He's so great in the playoffs and you saw him last year in the Super Bowl, right by Richard Sherman and make a big play late in that game, and so playoff. Sami is really, really good. So I hope he can get out there and play today and be a big part of what this chief's team does on the offense because He's the type of guy that really like he understands Patrick Mahomes and Patrick starts to scramble and move around and you're looking for somebody to get open man. I'll tell you what. Sammy Watkins knows how to come back to the ball, and if it's third and six, he's gonna get your seven and it's 37. He's going to get you A and so I think family walking is a very, very important player to have healthy and ready to go for this game. And then, of course, Eric Fisher is gonna miss And obviously that's in the big story for the last two weeks and How this offensive line is banged up, and he's such a valuable asset to this offensive line. But I expect Andy Reid and Eric the enemy and Patrick Holmes to come up with a game plan. That's not gonna expose those guys. Yeah, and I was reading the staff this morning. Bob. Pat Mahomes under pressure is good. Pat Mahomes, Right? I mean some quarterbacks. If you could get them off their spot, you're totally changing what they could do more homes. As the second high second highest Q. B R in the league when he's under pressure, so a normal quarterback with a banged up line that might be something But with Pat Mahomes, he just seems to be able to make something out of nothing so many times during a game. Well, let's think the Pat Mahomes factor. People are always like we'll explain patent homes like well, you just can't. I mean, he's gotta watch and see what the guy does and how he performs and, you know, you know, people say I swim in the Red Kool Aid and that's fine, man. I don't care about that. This team is the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen. Play football. I mean, just incredible, right? And so when somebody goes down, I always just think, OK, well, Andy Reid and Eric the enemy, and Patrick moms will figure it out. And they do They figure out a way. And you know this was gonna be tough, obviously, without Eric Fisher, but Just know they've had two weeks to prepare for this. They're going to come up with something That's not going to expose the offensive line. And Mike Remmers is not a bad offensive lineman. He's playing Super Bowls before he's played. I think four of the five offensive line positions and so he's gonna be okay. Their left tackle All right, Bob Fesco. We're talking about Fesco. Andy Reid's son, Britt Reid, and I'm from Philly. So I You know, I've I've known Andy for 20 years. I know them. Stories in the history of both of his his Children, Britt and Garrett, the Lake Garrick, but Britt was. I don't know if he's been arrested yet, but he didn't travel with the team. He was involved in a possible dy incident, where at least one of two Children had really serious injuries. Anything that any latest on that Bob has there been charges filed. And what are you hearing in Kansas City about it? You know, I I got nothing on that John would be honest with you. It happened on what Thursday night Friday. Whatever what had happened, And so you know, it's it's been the weekend and you know how things don't happen really over the weekend, so I got everything that I'm finding out right now. I'm reading online and I'm reading through the media, just like everybody else is on this one. Yeah, it's a It's a shame that it had that had to happen at all, but certainly heading into the into the Super Bowl. If he if the Chiefs don't win, Bob why Why? Why would the chief's not win this game? What's what's your biggest weakness? Weakness that could be exposed? Why they probably couldn't find the stadium, I guess is that would stay on that one. But you know, it's hard to say what their biggest weakness would be there to be exposed because I think their biggest weakness right now, obviously the offensive line with all the injuries on it, but Andy Heck has done such a great job and coaching those guys up and I think they do a really good job of game planning for the players that they have out there on the field. The only thing I could think of. Maybe their defensive backs get beat bad, you know in this game because they're trying to do too much. They're trying to play outside themselves. I hate using this stupid cliche like that, But like like they get caught up in the moment of the Super Bowl, you know, luxurious needs a rookie. My God, He's 1/4 round draft. Put it. He's out there playing and sure various Ward has been banged up this year were shot that has been banged up this year, You know, So if they like, play like like outside themselves there, too, and for this game because I think the defense is going to be amped up. I think they feel like they have a lot to prove, you know in this game because people still think it's the defense of 2018 that couldn't get off the field and stop anybody. And so this defense is carrying that badge like they're trying to go out there, improve that they're not a bad defense. Carrying the weight of your team's gone past where this can city Chiefs team. So that's the only thing I could think of. You know if they just get too caught up in the moment, but I don't even think they will. Because last year they you know, most of these guys played in the Super Bowl, and so it Patrick Holmes goes down. Maybe and they've got to go to chat. Any obviously could be an issue for this ball club. But I just haven't seen a team this solid at 1 53 like we're watching with this chief steam. Bob the M V P of the Super Bowl could end up being chief's trainer, Rick Boat, Burkhalter. As the story goes, the guys they're getting their haircuts by the barber. Burkholder finds out the guy who test positive flies in gets everybody out of there before there could be any possible infections..

Have there been anything any positive tests right? Everybody's gonna play that was getting their hair cut, etcetera e think they're like 20 guys in line when they finish like 1.5,.

"He's not gonna call for a running back ray tied into stay in protection to help. So you are going to get fisher. You are going to get one on one with him. I think the only way that she's about trying to mitigate that rolling. Patrick mahomes away from him. I don't think they will alter their protection calls a ton. Because that's just not what andy heck has done in the past. I great pass rushes. I do think they're going to move the pocket especially in the red zone. Because patrick mahomes for some reason defies traditional thinking is extremely capable of operating in closed quarters in the red zone. It's just something that he's uniquely. You can cut the field half in the red zone and he's just gonna roll out to find a guy that's what he did to the. That's what he did to the texans last year pm. Fifteen for president. Aside from taking patrick mahomes how many and which cheese players would you have to give the browns in order to beat the chiefs. That's a really good question. It might be close to ten or eleven. I mean travis. Seriously if without moms you gotta take away travis. Kelsey tyreek hill and sammy watkins from his weapons which would slot in very nicely in place of a lot of the browns weapons. Then you can keep the rest of their offense on defense. You need the entire chief secondary period and then anthony hitchens. Chris jones and frank clark upfront. Those guys need every single one of those guys to even have a shot. And i still wouldn't love the browns chances. Even though you're taking those guys away from mahomes in you're taking those guys off the defense still love. Love love the chances i think. That's a shootout 'cause home boy. If i could give the browns travis kelsey entire killa take them off the chiefs. I am taking the browns in this game and i. i'm not trying to go after our beloved chiefs. Are patrick mahomes here. But you take you give the browns that deep threat. That we don't have to match the raiders. Did you then give them the best possession receiver of any kind in the nfl to work over the middle of the field versus the chiefs. linebackers Yeah no i think just those players right there which is a substantial amount of players. But i think taking away both of those two weapons i mean severely would alter the outcome perhaps came out. You put travis kelsey tyreek hill on the field. And he played twelve personnel with austin hooper and jarvis landry and one of nick chubb kareem hunt and if the chiefs out to play the clip play in their base wolf. I mean.

"Is that they consider every one of them to be important. And i think that's something that's easy for us to forget when we're looking at it from the outside And say oh this guy in the sixth round. he's just going to be a special teams mean when we're on day. Three of the draft. And i have four hours total of sleep the last three. I don't want to talk about bowe. Pete keys yes i. I'm right there with you. Yeah i mean think it's real easy to do that is to just concentrate on the first two or three rounds of the draft and say okay. These are the guys that we're going to count on. But the chiefs clearly. Don't look at it that way. They demonstrated that when they traded back into the draft to get a guy like keys himself. You know they didn't wanna they didn't want to wait until next year to get a guy in that spot is allow. This is a guy we want. Let's give up a pick for next year and get back in there and get it. And that's the sign of a team that considers draft pick potentially important. Not all of them will turn out to be important but any one of them really could be and and this is great evidence of that. We've got this fourth round guy who has made a substantial impact on the chiefs this season as far as we know it seems like this draft note that the chiefs might have gotten another six rounder next year from their seventh rounder conditional from the dolphins for deondraye washington and washington had to start against the chiefs and so i wonder if that was the condition where he had to be up. I mean this is the weird thing about sometimes with the draft. We'll see where the cheaper picking the team will eventually release that officially but those little moves do matter you know and not think you sometimes see cornerback x. Who everybody knows. Because he's a cornerback. In the national football league traded for fourth round pick only a fourth rounder. That's a legitimate need you know. And so weren't paying attention to those little moves that we sometimes see in the off season and otherwise at the deadline so on and so forth when we come back. We will reveal our questions as we start. Chiefs falcons week the chiefs win and they have an afc by stay with us. On the arrowhead pride editors show back here on the arrowhead pride editor. Show coming up in a few moments. We will reveal the best chiefs thing we heard all week. But first we have our chiefs and falcons questions. And i will start with this. Because i think it's important for the future of the chiefs and how they perform potentially in the nfl playoffs if this is the tandem. And how levian belen daryl williams look in this new one two punch. The chiefs are going to be working with projects that clyde edwards helaire will not be. Available for jason falcons. I think we can almost assume that falcons are eighth in the league yards per game at stopping the run. So it's a nice challenge there. I think they're going to look pretty good. I saw some moments from le'veon bell last game. That reminded me of the days when he was in the yellow and black and torturing the chiefs by staying patient and waiting and having a snack and then finally passing the line of scrimmage for twenty five yards. I'm seeing little glimpses of that. And i would like bell to be able to have a game here and unfortunately it's at the expense of edwards. I don't want that. But i i like to see him get a game where he can get in a rhythm i know he basically played that other night. We're edwards. helaire was waiting on the sideline just knowing that he's the guy for the next game or two and maybe more it sometimes makes a difference in mentality and i'm eager to see how he performs an of course good to see dr williams back in the mix who was having a pretty good year before he was pseudo replaced when bell came into the lineup and he took the rb to spot. Yeah you know the only real difference between bell today and bill in the yellow and black is the offensive. Line's right really. I mean You know the the chiefs offensive. Line as i said before did a great job in blocking the run against the saints. And that's good but to say that they're on the level of what those steelers offensive lines were like. When bell was having his best years is is just not fair they they. There's no comparison between those two groups. And that's not too that's not to be banging on the chiefs offensive line. They've they've just had too many problems. They're doing the best they can with who they have available. And i'm i'm i'm credit the work that that andy heck has done to make these guys serviceable in the nfl. But you know watching bill today. Compared to the way we want to see him when he played for the steelers he looks slow but he's not. He's remained patient. He still looking for that whole there just as many of them so i i agree. I think this'll be really interesting to see how this plays. Out against the falcons on sunday. You can say john. I know that. Eric would andy heck heck of job coaching up. I said well. I don't see everything that eric would say. I will say this. We can get to your next question them. Yeah i'm wondering if the chiefs can stay focused on a game that some people are already considering meaningless. I mean i'm already seen people saying. Oh we should. We should rest against the falcons and go all in against the chargers. First of all. I don't think andy reid is going to do that. Yeah i don't think that's going to be his. He's not going to be tempted. To look at the falcons game is meaningless. Not when there's a chance it could clinch the by for the chiefs. Because it certainly is that. But i think it's hard for players to stay focused as andy. Reid mentioned a couple of weeks ago. They've got those phones attached to their hands they can't just stay away from the newspaper and To remain unexposed to what the media is saying about the team it. They just can't afford it anymore. And there's a lot of talk about how this game is meaningless. And i think it's going to be hard for the players to to filter out that noise than focusing on winning this game. I think it's worth the question. I i just i have so much faith right now in mahomes and.

"The real against the only place that you really need to know where the stats really matter is points. And when you look at the Kansas City Chiefs, they've only lost one football game. So allowing teams to throw the football for 300 plus yards game. It's no problem when you end up winning because everybody at the end of the game and we all know what this looks like. He's trying to throw the ball for 40 and 50 times a game just to get even. Yeah, I mean, listen, this is gonna be a tall task for the Denver Broncos. And there is a reason why they are the defending Super Bowl champions. I'm referring to the Kansas City Chiefs. Why they lead the division and and Alfred. I mean, when you look at this team and obviously They're way more balanced with their running game. This season compared to last season. Is this a better Kansas City Chiefs team than they won the Super Bowl? I think they They understand how to win now, which makes them more dangerous, because when you're young team, sometimes you just never get over the top, and you just are a good young team that never really makes it all the way to the Super Bowl and wins one. Andy Reid has had several good young football teams like the the groups that featured Donovan McNabb. That one NFC championships after NFC NFC Championships, but There is an art form to winning it all and when you learn the winning out, winning it all, then you know how to do that going forward and you know when to turn it on in the game, and you know what the moment is, and it's It's not. It's not something that frightens you. And once you learn that And I think you become a different team. So, yes, I do believe that they are a different team than they were last year because they understand that it 10 point deficit is not that big of a deal. They can make it up and Steve Magnolia. The defensive coordinator has been awesome. And, you know, Andy Heck is their offensive line coach. A guy played against while he was at Notre Dame. He coaches them up so well that it's it's fun to watch. I'm not telling you they have the best offensive line. But their sound and what they do. Yeah, and listen, they do they do so much movement, and, uh, it does make it difficult to actually get a beat on what it is. The Kansas City Chiefs are doing to you. Well, it is Broncos Game Day. We do have a kick off at 6 20..

"Com Did a good story about the job Burrow Injury York, Andre You know, the basically the The point of this story was that you know the Bangles put themselves and put their franchise quarterback in a dangerous position, really, based upon how they constructed their offensive line. I mean, they're online has been arguably is That is. The Bears didn't prevent them from game 200 yards on the ground one game. You know the Bears can't figure out a way to do that, but I digress. But it's been a bad line, especially it's really struggled to protect your borough. Most of the year. Some of that's probably on the rookie quarterback. I would imagine your chi. I think a lot of time to see rookie quarterbacks get sacked a lot right because they're still kind of learning. Right there, you know, Still a little bit of Ah, delay in their brain. You write to him their first year, and you expect him to get rid of that second year? Yeah, There's still just a little bit too much thinking going on back there instead of reacting. But by and large, I mean, most objective observers would be able to watch a little bit and say, Yeah, that line's not very good. They haven't been good at protecting him. And the again the basic point. The story is that the line was constructed poorly. I mean, there's really I think they make the point York that there's only one guy that You know, a top 10 pick was used to select and he's their best player, their left tackle. Other than that, they've sort of piecemeal that together, you know, they've got a late first rounder that's turned out to be a bust. And some six rounders and seventh rounders and undrafted free agent and it sounds like the Bears offensive line. Well, I mean, that's the way you've got to do it. Some guys respond. You know, I went back over the Packers and I went across the one time then you know, I looked at Tauscher where he was picked. Then they had another guy playing. You know, Blogger was the first time you go back and you look at it over the course of time. Somebody's gonna have to hit for you as a free agent. You know, something's got to come in and be able to play. Bears did it with J. Helgenberger. You know, they did it with boards in the eighth round. He'd be a free agent now, right? You know, they found guys later on in the draft and they became productive players. You've got to be able to do that. With your offensive line. I've seen people drafted offensive lineman like they would boards. Converting the offensive line because they could see all right. He's got the tenacity he got. He has this certain quality and we're gonna take that We're going to switch it. We're gonna put it on the offensive side of the bomb. We think we're going to be pretty good. She's so great, did it? There are other players that have done it played tight end switched the Oh, you know, switch to the offensive line. Andy Heck was a tight in early on in his college career switched over the offensive line became an offensive lineman, so it's been done before. When you've got people that can see talent. You've got people that can see a certain set of skills. You got people that can maybe see another guy in a different position, Then you're in good shape. When you've got scouts and you've got guys that don't know you've just brought him in, and you've taught him what you think you you know nothing. You've got to find guys that have seen you know certain things in the past and could identify Hey, with that skill set. We think he could do this. If you have a shoddy offensive line, you run the risk of getting your you know, your franchise quarterback intern in his first year tore up his knee pretty badly. A stranger's Yeah, he's gonna Be out for probably about a full year or if you have a shoddy offensive line you bring in your hand pick quarterback who is your co described is completely immobile and his slow of foot and he makes your offense even worse because he can't escape any sort of pressure. In your own line stinks. I mean, when you don't have those blocks of granite that you're cold likes to talk about. You're in trouble when they're blacks, a cream cheese instead of blocks of granite. You're probably in trouble..

"My dear Powell's I find him on twitter. At Cheap Carolina Matthew laid what is good with you this fine evening. Everything did chief. So know we're back to winning football. We Got College football season is in full swing. We almost have all the conferences that matter backing PAC twelve lag behind a little bit but things look well, no conferences that matter you're good. Yet, you say that the Justin Herbert you say that's the best quarterback in the AFC west the one that can actually throw the ball downfield. Guys I'm kidding guys that was a tweet during the game because drag edit that out because Patrick mahomes in a half his best game this past week eew Craig. Stout. The renaissance made. Hollywood hop the barley stunner. The nicknames go on. There's only so much you can do with the guy. So famous, how are you doing this evening? I was doing a lot better before that intro but I'm doing well, you guys, I. The chiefs are doing well. The easy part of the schedules coming up we're going to have a lot of fun conversations coming up over the next three weeks whether they win or lose they will be very fun conversation and. I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah. We've got some pretty cool stuff coming here on the AP laboratory that you're going to hear about here in the near future to so be on the lookout for that some pretty cool stuff. But let's answer questions and we'll start with a five star review. Just reminder if you like what's going on the head pride podcast Chino feel free to leave a five star review and we see him we answer your questions and Bobo fifty to fifty two did just that and he said Hi guys love the pod. Hope all is well. My question who are your top offensive line prospects I've been messing around on draft simulators to see. We could get what about the OT from Minnesota would love to hear some feedback I think offensive line or wide receiver is a must also seeing. Some nice tight end prospects what your thoughts. That's a can of worms that doesn't what opened already on this particular asked I'll just sit back here. Go ahead let Mattie Cook. So often detach on Minnesota I was a little disappointed that he was a late scratch from the game against Michigan Daniel Foley is how to pronounce his name. I'm not sure if that's correct. However I really like him I would like to see. Him Show a little bit more technical improvement. He right now he's a massive four hundred pound man that moves like a man that's like two hundred ninety pounds. Yeah. That it's wild looks that wild he just needs to look like he can play offensive tackle a little bit a guy that I really like is Alex. Leatherwood. He's playing tackle for Alabama but I think he's best. Spots can be kicking inside to guard at the next level but I really like his footwork and for guy that has good footwork. He kinda struggles on the outside like I think he works best in a phone booth. So when you put them inside at garlic played earlier in his career Alabama I, think he looked a little bit better and he would fit with chiefs. are kind of moving towards. It looks like on the offensive line. So He's one of my favorites. Another guy loves RASHAWN SLATER OUT OF NORTHWESTERN YOU won't get to see him play this year, but he's another guy that played tackle in college. It's GONNA kick inside most likely. The NFL, suing his arm link is what it looks like I'm a sucker for guys that play tackle Keep them there or kick them inside. I like just having the better feet uc from guys at offensive tackle. It would you can find a road grader at tackling college and then move them inside of the NFL I think there's a lot of good luck to be had that way. So those are the guys that kind of have vitamin I could go on for the next thirty minutes but I'm going to let kit jump in here and see you know I didn't take any of his favorite guys yet. You took Alex Leatherwood was where I was going. That's just real quick. I want to just say real quick I think that's a guy that makes a lot of sense for this football team versatility plays a lot of different positions has the ability to do that. There's a lot of versatility. You know Andy Heck's love and that I think that is a big plus for him. I'm? GonNa go I'M GONNA GO Dylan rates. Out of North Dakota state. He's a guy I got to watch a little bit. So of already got my avert got. An early initial grade on trae lanes for the Casey draft. Guide. In twenty. Twenty one. Was Not really impressed with trae lance when I watched his game this year against Central Arkansas but I thought Dylan Radon ratings did some good things it a little disappointing watching that game because? You really didn't get to see him do much in the run run game they were running to the right side to the right tackle a lot. But Dylan ratings has outstanding movement skills. I do think he needs to develop some more strength I, think that's going to be a big thing for him moving forward. As. He developed as a prospect. He's really got a rework, his body develop more functional Strength Butts, movement skills, or outstanding good feats. I think there's a lot of tools to work with I. Don't mean first round. The first round that that might be the kind of range that you look at a guy like that. Potentially we'll look at his final grade but I think that's where you could potentially see him. So that's a guy to keep an eye on for sure. Complete the full circle let's get some center prospects. Josh Meyers out of Ohio. State. He's a guy I. Don't think that does anything excellent Britos everything. Like he's a quality football player. He's GonNa play in the NFL for a long time a guy that I feel similar, but you can have them later in the draft is Jimmy Morrissey at Pittsburgh. I'm trying to stick away from the guys that are super athletes that we've looked at in the past with chiefs just because I don't know if they want guys that are super thin that are made to do all the blocking and space. I feel like they want a little bit more of a stout presence up the middle. Song. China to adjust when I'm looking for a little bit in some of these interior guys. But I figured you know we talked about some offense tackles kicking in runes should be able to play offensive tackle completely at the NFL level. So we might as well rounded out and get you some senator prospects to keep your eyes out for two. We're on it this year fellas. I this is just thinking out loud on this terrible podcasting, but I've I've thought about maybe doing a draft show during the bye week. Let's just leave it at that. That might be a fun little thing to do Mattie just smiled. weirdly the way he's you should see this. Terrified AP nerd squad at G. Mail Dot. com if you if you don't have a twitter, you WANNA ask your questions on the PODCAST AP nerves squad at g mail dot com is where you can do that..

"We have play makers everywhere on on on this offense and I think light is He has the right mentality is very humble dude. But just comes in works his tail off and when his numbers called, he's ready to he's ready to go off and have some fun. But I think I think that's Kinda. Unique about everybody in the in this offense is that nobody's really selfish in that regard everyone's kind of selfless and just trying to you know do their parts and When their numbers called, you know make a play I mean you're you're you're part of it all Travis Travis Kelsey here on the richeisenshow and by that I mean okay. So you're going to go out on some routes and catch touchdowns from a home that you did on Monday night, and then you're part and parcel of run game that racks up two hundred and forty five yards by my buddy Brian Baldinger pointed out that you basically ran only three running plays all night about forty six times over is that is that accurate? Did you run only just a handful of the same plays over and over again at the bills? There were a few plays that we that we ran back to back in a few places that we I would say was a little bit more than three but Yeah we've definitely we just we knew that we had to. We had we had to force the the defensive players in the run game and you know they I, guess their mentality was to try and stop the big place. The safeties and backers were at depths and are off into line did A. Job At just coming off the ball and just create creating a new line of scrimmage and and it made it easy for myself to get the second level blocks in a made it easy for for Clyde in the running backs to pick apart the defense and sure enough I mean two hundred and sixty are like you said later it's a it's a win on the. Board see what do you like best catching the touchdowns or being part of hitting people in the mouth for something like that? What do you gotTa Love Them, man. You gotTa Love them both you got to be equally as fired up when you get a good block that can spring a guy as well as getting in the end zone and taking a hit put up six. Points man it's It's just a love for the game man you. You gotta find those little Itty bitty parts of the game that you can just flourish, and you can just really appreciate doing your job and being held accountable and coming through for you guys. Now, you hear quite a bit around league. We're banged up this that the other thing offensive lineman being. Banged up. I'm staring directly at the Cowboy Fan on our set right now in TJ Jefferson who's sitting there not knowing why he needs his head on swivel during the Travis Kelsey interview I'm calling him out but you guys have got some injuries as well and you had people in the mouth and you got two hundred some odd yards rushing to what do you attribute all that Travis. I'm well I. Think one is the culture we were just talking about how coach read always. Always kind of set the tone and and and hold everyone accountable, and it's not just the starters and said, it's the guys that the the villain pieces knowing that there are only a step away or a play away from from getting their opportunity to go in and make a play for the team and I think that room that often collide room is such a tight tight room and it's it's very Business like and that's and that's hats off to coach heck goes Andy Heck is has been in the room so I've been hearing and and there's never been a flaw. In how he coaches and how he gets guys ready and prepared for the game and it's I mean one through ten or however many live and we got everybody is is definitely an understanding of what they're doing and and the mentality that they have to have gone out there and sure enough I mean it was on display this week. A few more minutes left with Travis Kelsey here on the rich Eisen show. Okay. You got your visiting Denver this week. A couple things just leapt to mind here. This is the spot where mahomes got a little bit of a wet speak a little bit at the end of the season and Alex Smith's last season there as the. quarterback of the Kansas City chiefs we just saw the Miami Dolphins make a move to to What is that like in a locker room where you know that there's a kid who's really special but you also adore the veteran quarterback that that you wanna play for walk me through. Do you think that Miami Dolphins players might be going through that potentially you guys did in that situation travis a lot of mixed feelings and granted every situation is different but a lot of mixed feelings because especially for when Alex was here for the situation that we went through in. Kansas. City, we everybody wanted to win win the Super Bowl for Alex men to see that guy come in and compete his tail off never shy away from the moment never shout never point a finger just always you know stood up in front of the team and demanded a accountability and excellence and You know knowing that that we you got something special in your back pocket man that's It's always going to be a business at the end of the day. So it's just it's an unfortunate situation and you'll for the for the veteran guy that's that's taken kind of the high. Road. Out. And And it's just. So it's pretty unfortunate especially when you see his Patrick talk about it like that you knew he was invested and he really wanted to take this team and keep winning and keep leading this team. The way he was but you know to was a great guy, a great player and I'm sure the dolphins will will have. Success with who out there on the field and if they don't I'm sure it's magic. We'll be able to come in and feel like you always have that and how about Alex Smith coming back making it all the way back and then carrying Aaron Donald and carrying Aaron Donald on his back for a couple of steps in the return. I'm sure you saw that right? Oh. Yeah. Man I mean, how can you not get fired up about that entire situation I? I'm just so excited that he's back playing football he looked like he was having fun. Trying to sling it around there and try to avoid Aaron. Donald in the pocket. Man is the IT I'm sure I'm sure it was fun for him to get a see wet again and to see his wife and kids in the stands are going crazy. That was just a awesome. Awesome seeing. to witness no everything has gone through such a touch topnotch human that Guy Alex Smith. He is one of the best man no doubt no doubt and then in Denver what is it like a mile high seriously like do you do you have to do anything different? Do it defined it that it's difficult to keep you breath up there for Me To say that I don't feel anything I mean I'll walk up. A flight of steps in feel way different. You know what? I mean just chest pump in lungs trying to find oxygen. It's a different feeling by by the time Second Corps or second quarter second half come around your your acclimated and everything. But for that first quarter man, you're sucking wind and there's not much you can do about it and with covert and everything I don't know how they're going to do the oxygen. Thanks sideline what to figure it out. How about that? Okay and then I guess. Is Somebody GonNa have to a test for the change in altitude with Andy Reed's visor system that it seemed to take a step back this week to be honest with you.

"I'm thinking. We'd better hustle or or. He's got a trip or is it got to be an overthrow? One of those to it We're fortunate on that. When he split a double coverage on that so. He he he's a player, wanted him once upon a time right up to Denver. Yeah, now he did. He did I saw a guy got away from us and and picked himself up. A Super Bowl wins. I didn't feel too bad that he didn't get on there, but. He. You know he was just Jimmy was off just by attack. He's not gonNA mess. Many of those we're fortunate that that happened. You played a lot of good teams in your career in the regular season and the playoffs, but where would you rank that forty nine or team? Just top to bottom of all the squad played now, I! I, really think they've got phenomenal head. Coach that he does a great job. Call does and through defensive coordinator I just think is one of the up and comers I like Hairdo. You know what you and both minutes. You Got Yours right down to the bone, but mine's not far away, so come on. His, shined up man! A shined up, so they played fast and physical. They do and and so and they're young, so they've got A. They've got a good club. And they've got good coaches. good players coaches in our way late a success for rookie defensive end he end of the game with twelve pressures in his whole season was pretty dominant. WH, what you think Nick Bosa. Yeah, it was tough. It's tough. That was the third time we've had to face a Boza on. In the year, so his brother and he never stopped coming. There's something that was in that refrigerator. Man They. Eating the right thing, so is is Future is great. Sky's the limit for him. And listen he that hold defensive line as a good defensive line, so he's surrounded by good players so chip in him while you chip him, you might. Three other guys coming at you, so you can't chip them all He's football player. Two of them look like they should be in the NBA I are enormous both of the same school right so? Those pretty good job of Oregon recruit those guys. Do you think it helped the your off of line? Especially, the tackles over the years have just played. You Know Khalil. Mack was in the division forever. The chargers, guys and then obviously von forever. They added Bradley Chubb I. Know He got hurt this year, but I mean a lot of highly paid defensive ends. So I've got a bunch of guys that have played at Cleveland that we we snuck onto our team, and and Cleveland Lego, and we were able to pick up Andy Heck deserves a lot of credit there on. Coaching those guys up and and. That, he developed these guys. Well or Fisher was the first round pick our first pick in the draft my first year. At Kansas City and I've watched him grow, he had his hands full of both bows. You know throughout the year. But again he one thing he does, he battles. He's come a long way he's done a nice job. So you win the Super Bowl. Life Change. A life doesn't change other than You know it's kind of funny. Thing you. You and I were together for a while there, so You have the two hundred twenty one. You're fortunate to be on teams that are one two hundred twenty one. Games then for four hours out there you get two hundred, twenty two, and it's a different. It's a different deal. I mean things do change perceptions, and and that it it puts you in a different a different category. I guess you'd say. You're the same guy you're gonNA coach the same way, but because of that super bowl. that. You're looked at a little a little different, so which is an amazing. It's an amazing thing about this is business, but it's also why you work your tail off, and it's attributable our guys and they. We came four inches short the year before, and we all did I mean before got the blame for, but equiano cut played better. So. Margin for errors in the big games tiny right? That's right. That's right. Great. You know the. It's a small margin there. are a lot of parody once you get to get to that level, so you know it was just The guys were mission to get this thing done. and it was great to be a part of and to watch. And now there's another great challenge so once you get the taste this you wanna go back. you understand though that it's tremendous amount of work. You gotta catch a few breaks in there. That's a all kinds of sit down in the national football league during the season. So that's going to be easy to inspire the guys just knowing we're the hunted. Everyone's coming for us. Even though you Kinda have been, but it's a different level when you are the Super Bowl Champs. So I like I said I think there are a lot of variables that go into it whether you how? How you stay healthy that whole deal that you know works in there. They're going to be games like I, said. The parody is like nuts in this lake so. A normal game, the margin between and losing his like seven points in there so they everything's narrow down here that. The ball bounces the wrong way for you might play. A heck of a game might lose the game so. You gotta the ball bounce for you. But you can't the one thing that you can. You can take care of it. Is that work ethic? and so that's where who put our focus and. Put our focus on continuing to grow as a team. Take take our young guys. More experience open the package up a little bit forum. And and keep growing. Would your phone look like after the game? A little bit over to two thousand. Five hundred text messages, and he talked humbling now I mean that was humbling deal and I tried to return every one of them. was whether it was just a heart or thumbs up. I was going to get everybody back I. Just I respected the fact that they. Will reach out Pretty humbling do. There's someone that you didn't expect the reach out. Now. Not someone you didn't know I've probably in or something I mean a form to someone an actor i. don't even know. Yeah, whether there were a few actors in there. It wasn't. It was people that I knew I mean you're you're forget because you get so tied up in the season in the season's fast furious. You forget how many people that as businesses brought crossing that you've.

"Thanks everybody joining us today. My Name's gets wants this is the AP laboratories the second episode of the week we are continuing our positional breakdowns. Discussing how the season for a position in looking ahead to the future. We do the interior offense of line today. Someone who is very fired up about this. Find Him on twitter at chief and Carolina Mattie Lane. Let's Talk Big uglies very fired. Up is a strong word but I do enjoy some some offensive line play. I will say watching the interior offensive line. Play does not does not inspire a lot of fire. So we are here. Took her to recap the season Tell you about Dole flames that we've seen throughout the year. But we're going to transition we're gonNA throw some installation INSTA- light fire logs on that bad boy. We got Craig style. The Renaissance may find him on twitter barley happier. He is here with us he can start a fire with a little bit there in a green leaf. That's how good he is so he's going to be here to help us out. How do you start a fire with dirt in a leaf? That's why you don't tell us period so that's definitely not a thing that happens is we. Just gotTA WE GOTTA. Lean into the bit. So what we're GONNA do is we're going to recap the two thousand eighteen season we're gonNA talk about the interior offensive line. Kinda ask them questions and then after the break we'll look ahead and kind of start talking about the future what we think about this group what we think they can add and all that kind of stuff. It's GonNa be fun so let's start with this we gotta ask and we'll start with you craig. How overall did the Interior offensive line deal? I mean frankly not great. Andrew Wylie started the year they had at the other guards spot and Austin writer. Those were the three guys that primarily got reps early and they gave up a lot of pressure and they did not move guys in the run game they just frankly were overall pretty poor at just about everything that they did and the chiefs have kind of made it a point to try not to invest in the position as much as possible and it. Kinda came back to bite him a little bit this year. Now obviously it got better. When Stephane was new ski got to play in their little bit he did have some rough moments early on when he was coming in but he got a lot better as the year went along. Martinez ranking actually got some reps in their look pretty good and you know until he got hurt due to Cam Irving but I overall think the group was pretty poor so I would say a an overall mostly failing grade for the interior offensive line. Yeah I think you have to reach pretty hard to come away with a lot of good from the Interior Offensive Line Group. I don't even think you can put your hat on the guys that played outside of Martinez. Rankin which may or may not come up again here in another segment of guys. That are super promising going forward. I don't think you can hang your hat on this elite athletic interior offense of wine. That excel getting out in space on the screen game. They section was one of the first years. Why the chiefs screen game was not near as effective is. It wasn't Andy. Reid and I think a ton of that is totally. Eric Fisher. Nothing in there. He's great Hurts but I just think the interior offensive linemen. They just weren't as athletic as they've been in years past so you don't even have the super athletes out there anymore. Like the chiefs have had in the past like there was a lot of good going on. I will say as the year went on they do. This is probably going to Andy Heck. They didn't a lot better job of pick it up. Interior stunts in some delay blitzes. They got better at that throughout the year. Especially if you compare it last year but outside that like you said you just don't have a lot of real good to go with this group and I think you really have to look at that go at Ford so I'm with I'm with graduate. This is a mostly failing grade across the board. I tend to agree. And you know you saw Andrew Riley. He took a step back the McCleary Hill Award winner last year. He took a step back. He wound up not even being active for the last couple of games this season. We'll see what that really says about his his outlook moving forward. They tried to go with Austin rider to replace To replace Mitch Morris last year and it was not particularly strong and sometimes I wonder if the reason that the the entire interior offensive line wasn't as successful is because of of him starting with him as the pivot point in that Group L. D. T. Another your back. I think he missed some games again. This season as well it's it's it's just. It was a bleak outlook and through a lot of guys in there to try to solve the problems. What was the biggest surprise of the Interior Offensive Lineman? My was cam irving not really getting a chance. I know he had to get put out there at offensive tackle but last year camera in played off into guards while I thought Andrew Wylie was better across from they both roughly about the same which was serviceable. And I don't think you could make a very good case the chiefs offense guard play with serviceable is year. Why did came? Irving not get a kickback inside. Especially once Eric Fisher came back let him play. Left Guard. Let him play right guard. I don't care you instantly improve that athleticism that I was talking about. That's missing. He's a guy that clearly gets along very well team. There's a little bit of continuity between him and Eric Fisher. I just never seen him get a chance on the interior is a roth is the position group. As a whole was that would caught me off a little bit. My Guy was Martinez Rankin. I geeked out when the chiefs were able to acquire Martinez rank in when it happened because they traded Carlos Hyde who is not going to make this football team. That really disappointed a lot of people here in Kansas City including the chiefs organization very obviously and they traded Wa- Carlos hired a thousand yard. Rusher Carlos sure whatever cool we got the got three years of club control of a very good potential very a potentially good interior offensive linemen in Martinez ranking. He was a top one one hundred pick about eighteen months ago. He's still and I think he showed some promise before. Cam Irving ruined his season. But that's neither here nor there I am very. I was very surprised that you know first off they were able to get Martinez ranking for Carlos. Hyde and I was pretty surprised that he was able to play pretty well so quickly. My biggest surprise was Andrew. Wylie and it's not for a good reason. He took a step back and got to the point where he was a healthy scratch at the end of the year over. The phone was new ski who they picked up off the street. That doesn't necessarily bode well for Andrew. Wylie that's not saying that the chiefs are gonNA move on Done with him or anything like that but the fact that he couldn't get up there with how terrible the guard play generally was brought most of the year there that speaks volumes as to how they view. Andrew Wylie so I'll be keeping an eye on him this off-season see count. What they do with him. But that was my biggest. Surprise is how far back you took a step. Let's move onto the biggest disappointment. And I mean there's a lot of candidates for this one I think for me. I'm probably going to go with Laurent Rene Tardif. I think you were kind of hoping that he would be the stabiliser along the interior of the offensive line. He's the Guy John. Dorsey paid a lot of money. He was the highest paid offensive. Lineman for the chiefs this year along the interior and he was not good. He just he's he's he's taken steps back. I think all like the last two years I would say. And he hasn't been able to stay healthy either. And maybe there's a correlation between that but your best abilities availability and Laurent. Rene Tardif hasn't really been available a ton last couple years and he hasn't played well at this. The Super Bowl wasn't great for him. Either frankly it was. It was a rough day for him as well. Mike Austin writer. I kind of thought that the chiefs were going to get a little more out of a second year of Austin rider. Didn't think it was going to be great but I did think that they were going to get a little bit more out of him based on what we saw in training camp and some of the work that he put in this offseason but frankly he just struggled he really struggled. Upfront power. He didn't pick things out particularly well and he didn't move particularly well. Just a lot of the hallmarks of Andy. Reid Center There in I think that the chiefs I we knew that they were going to Miss Mitch Morse a little bit. You know just because he was an excellent center but I didn't feel like it was going to be as significant as a drop off as it really was. Austin rider was my biggest disappointment for the year. After Craig successfully used to disappointment over his last two answers I am left with. Actually nobody's left of the interior offensive line appointment. So I'M GONNA go with like I mentioned earlier. I think this is the first thing that I thought that she string game wasn't good and the Interior oftentimes big part of it more than just a screen game. I don't think these guys were particularly well suited for the chiefs steam general in it sounds weird because L. bt Austin rider. They've had success thus in July. They've had success in the past the same scheme. Just you watch especially the way the running the ball. These guys just aren't making it to their set once they need to. They're not getting across defenders bodies. They're not calling the second level on the zone blocking place. They just don't seem like they can functionally get where they need. Do you look at all Damian Williams or even similar SEAN. Mccoy's big runs their outside zone. They get stretched all the way outside the tackle box and then make a hard cutback because nobody can make the reach block and get their hips around the defender. These guys just simply were not able to execute what was being out of that includes everybody that we've talked about so far. They did not look good in the scheme. The scheme isn't going to change. It's an outside heavy zone rushing scheme with a lot of RPO's they don't get a chance to just play power football. I don't think they'd be good at that. Either they need better fits or guys that can execute the scheme better going forward whether that's new players new coaching or they gotta figure out something to do to help these guys better because they were bad across the board in that regard all right Craig. What are we most optimistic about? Moving forward along the interior of the offensive line. I feel like I got the easiest one because there's really only one guy it's Martinez ranking like. That's it and I feel like when he was brought in that they liked him as a swing. Tackle a little bit and saw what he could play his guard and then when they went out and got Jackson Barton. I think that was another thing where they're just kinda submitting Martinez. Rankin is going to play guard forum. He's got the brightest outlook of anybody on this roster in the interior there so I hope he recovers quickly. I hope he gets back on the view of the chiefs soon because I feel like he can move a little bit. He's got a little bit more anchor than some of these other guys as feeder pretty. Good I just I would like to see more Martinez Rankin at guard. It was just taken away from us a little too quickly. My the reason. I'm most optimistic. What I'm most optimistic about about the interior offensive line. Moving forward is that they just WanNa Freak and super bowl with this interior offensive line. And yes they want to get better and they need to get better and they need to continue to protect. Patrick Levonne moms however all the problems that they had along the interior piecemeal together signing Steven was snow ski at the end to end starting him and benching their McAfee will magically Hill Award winner and and all that stuff still want to super bowl. They're going to be able to figure this out. I still have reasonably that. They'll be able to have success whether or not they get it fixed to for me. It's the growth that we saw the one spot did some argument. But you go back to that. Had a loss against the New England patriots. What real in the playoffs? Two thousand eighteen? What really killed them. The inability to pick up inside stunts looping blitzer is delayed. Blitzer is all that stuff they hear. That was an issue sometimes but not near as much. There was a very clear emphasis in focus on picking up passing off these different blitzer. These rushers that chiefs like the split like almost every other team a combo protection. Half the line is doing man. Blocked with the other half is dropping into gaffe protection protecting specific gap. They were able to figure that out as the year went on and giving into the playoffs they were pretty good at picking up the extra blitz the middle. You think that kind of emphasis. That focus is going to translate to the next year that just seeing that growth than something. That was such a big weakness of this year. Lets you have a little even more faith in the heck get some real talent in there in in you could.

"What's up everybody? Thanks for joining us today. My Name's Kent Swamp and this is the AP laboratory in is the game preview edition a for the game against the New England Patriots Won. We are all very excited about Obviously it's a big game. It's probably one of the game that we've all circled old and here tell me helped me talk about this game my dear palace. I find him on twitter at chief in Carolina Mattie Lane. How are you my friend print kid? I'm loving the energy. You're bringing this podcast. I'm ready you. You were turned up as the Craig. Stoute's would say you were you. You were flying high buddy year Craig. Stout find him on twitter at Barley. He is the youngest in the soul of all of us. Despite being the most mature how you a young life. But I'm doing fantastic. I'm pretty sure I've never said that. My Life I put on oldest on the ID card youngest the youngest in spirit. It's great out. How are you friend? Oh my God all right well Patriots Week kids amped. That's ready man. that-that's one of us so I'm low key more excited for all of the College Conference Man. Of course it makes added for the chiefs game to Michelle STAS excited if not more so for all of these Championship Games coming up before the day. Gt It's probably probably because all three of us have been cleared to go by the Bosses Aka the wives to go to the senior bowl so that might be part of it. But we're not here to talk about at that. We're here to talk about the new Patriots. Mattie might be mad he just go ahead and meet your line. Let's just go ahead and just get out in front There's three storylines on offense and defense. We need to talk about with this football team In big game in Foxboro on the road so I think we gotta start with this the Patriots. I have one of the best defense in football. And we're going to talk about the offense for the chiefs and the Patriots have one of the defense the best defense in football. They're very good upfront. They've done a very good job with some of their games upfront. Getting to Patrick Mahomes. He started slow in every single game. All two of them that he played against the Patriots. I think we're expecting some games upfront mattie especially with a struggling interior offensive line more so than even just the interior offensive line if you go back to the raiders game especially a soon as the place started if the raiders new like the chiefs run a lot of combination protections their offense and flights. That'd be half. The offensive line is blocking a man. The other half is blocking specific gap or kind of area on the offensive line. As soon as the raiders determine which side was demand blocking they will almost ran a stunt off every single time. Now a lot of times. That's a little bit delayed. So it kind of leans towards the fact that they were waiting to read the chief's protection before they did it. Ah but they still had a ton of success. Looping their defensive ends back inside or pulling their defensive tackles up and around the outside they they called stunts but they also ran these impromptu stunts nearly every pass rep that the chiefs took and they were finding a ton of success with it. They weren't just challenging the chiefs blockers whether they interior guys or the tackles tackles one on one they will make in the work. They were making them handle these different guys loop around Denver Directions and they didn't do a great job at it. Patrick mahomes clearly doesn't feel comfortable when he sees stumps coming. There was more than once where he got out of the pocket. The moment he kind of saw what happening in front of him now. Maybe that was an internal clock. Timing thing for him but he did not feel comfortable. Look like when he saw a stunt coming the chiefs after really cleaned that up with the Patriots coming up I would expect them to do much of the same with the Patriots will do that. The raiders didn't they'll also also put seven guys on the line of scrimmage in make you guess which of these guys were coming if all of them are if only three of them are they're going to add fake pressure on top of these stunts. Real real pressure on top just makes it that much more difficult to the communications. GotTa be on point this week. Somebody's gotTa Sit Andy Heck down and teach him him the definition of a stunt because he's terrible at picking them up and he's been terrible pig. You're the entire time that he's been the chiefs offensive line coach. He's got a lot out of a lot of dudes like he's really gotten the most out of most of these guys and they still can't seem to ever pick a couple of stunt. The Patriots are going to run them all the time. I think we expected. Maybe with Brendan Daily in House. His ability to scheme up some of these things at the chiefs are using on on defense to get guys free. We kinda hoped that those games upfront in practice would help this offensive line. Prepare for some of those things a little bit more. It hasn't they've arguably been worse this year so we we just really need to make sure that that everything's covered because I think that they're going to have a lot of free rushers in Pat's lap this week. It's either perfect timing for the chiefs to get this challenge. Terrible timing for chiefs to get this challenge and we're gonNA find out this week whether or not you know which side of the coin that falls on. Because you see we. We kind of talked about a little bit here. Some of the Games upfront. That the raiders rain were getting home but Patrick Mahomes was not hanging in there particularly long either. So there's there's a lot of inconsistency going on with with quarterback and upfront. There's just I mean that's just that's what we're dealing with right now here so you know we're GonNa find why now obviously I think everyone in that building is up for the challenge. No doubt about it. I think this is going to be a sharp week of focused week. You you know. This team seems to play to the talent levels that they are facing across the other side. So I think you're GonNa get the best effort for the chiefs and it really ultimately could wind up benefiting this team in the long run if they can all kind of get things right up front impact can can play consistency and with some trust upfront. I know he said he didn't tr. I know he said he had trust in the guys up front and all that stuff this week and of course he's going to say that but the the tape says things there's there's more inconsistencies there than he's playing on going back to Andy Heck. I think he's done a great job. Kind of developing some guys offensive of line. You can go back to Eric Fisher. LSAT even though we may not love him anymore. He's gotten guys better but something that he decis struggled to. Instill these guys is getting there. Kicks steps past sets on the same page. If you go watch just about any passer up. You'll find offense attack offensive guard on entirely different levels which makes it nearly impossible to pass off those stunts. Without letting the spear guy the underneath player coming between you to you. Whether it's Eric Fisher. Assurer Andrew Wylie's inconsistent footwork. Both of them are a little inconsistent. There Elliott. He's working just garbage in general was Mitchell. Schwartz is really good so these guys are just always playing on a different level and it makes the stunts impossible to pick up and I don't think Andy Heck sees it as big of an issue is clearly has been judging by just like his interview that he he had the day where he was talking about it. He seemed as talk about they needed to keep working on it. And they'll figure it out. I don't know what he seemed to think they're gonNA figure that out because this has been an issue for well over a year okay. So another thing that we're going to probably see in the game on a on Sunday is man coverage this is something that has given the cheese problems with lesser talent. Looking at you Indianapolis Colts. They've they've had a hard time getting getting. The Chiesa had a hard time getting off in coverage tyreek Hill is certainly capable travis. Kelsey certainly capable But outside of that there's a lot of question marks Mark Sammy Watkins. I think when he's been locked in when he's been healthy has has has shown the ability to do that and win in contested areas. But this is going to be a big challenge as as has it has been because bill bill tries to make you play left handed. So he's going to double tyreek They doubled A Lot last year in the AFC championship game name They're probably GONNA put Stefan Gilmore against Travis Kelsey maybe put him up against Sammy Watkins like they did last year. We'll find find out but they're going to really challenge. You know to to try to take away your two best players and then they're gonNa make McColl Hartman Sammy Watkins demarcus Robinson Environ pringle and to this point. They just flat out have it. It's been a really big struggle when teams have really challenged the chiefs across the board with me and coverage McColl McColl might be able to might be a guy that can spring-free a few times. Potentially if you know if you can get off the line and he can beat that physical press press coverage and if he can. There's some lucrative opportunities there if if the line holds up long enough but I it's not even just as simple as the explosive plays they've got to be able to consistently instantly move the football and that's where it's going to be the biggest challenge for this football team. This week is going to be the secondary guys the secondary weapons being able to beat tough man coverage and and and present a receiver. A target for Patrick Mahomes something the Patriots it will do that like the colds and other teams played a lot of band coverage against the chiefs didn't do as much they will essentially leave very minimal or only one help defender offender against or with this man coverage so they're going to man up on all your receivers are going to dedicate a safety to play over the top Terry Kill and while this safety can't come down to make plays elsewhere if he sees it. His first goal is to stay on top tyreek Hill if they do that again. That means they're going to have at most one extra defender out there to the help and usually if it goes anything like either game last year that it will be a spy of Patrick Mahomes in case he breaks contain drives a run or just extend the play. So when you put all these other guys that could help offenders into other roles that means you have true one on one match ups with all these other receivers and may have the entire field work with if Travis Kelsey is split out away from all the trash near the bulk of the formation near the trenches and they allow him to get jammed over and over again by defense invent. I may pull my hair out. I may go over to Kim's house pull his hair out. Because I don't understand how many times we will let the Patriots Jam Kelsey with the Defensive Linemen that has no intention on doing anything but jamming him. Before getting into.

"It's the trust and the coaching staff by finding former first round picks in trying to make something out of him and we've seen this on defense defense alex okafor for emmanuel. You know are two examples are coaching staff can bring their level up. Get get manual log bob back to where he was was. It oklahoma state put on that defensive line. Keep in mind. He was the thirty second pick in the draft which technically it's the first round but the patriots have won that year right because the deflate gate an incredible that still great pass rusher in college okafor was a tremendous pass rusher at texas. Bring them back to level. It seems to me that bread veto veto a lot of trust in his coaching staff to coach players up big reason why i think they bring clue mckinsey in letting be with andy heck in see what he can do. You and i think they trust mike kaffa the quarterback coach to get matt moore <hes> which andy reid said he likes better and he prefers the veteran. I understand this because when nick foles available that one year he's brought in right away with kingston tease any redistributed for keeping his career going but i think it's that trust factor a the g._m. Has of look at these. Maybe failed first or second round picks. Put him on our coaching staff with our guys. Let them coach them up but to me. The move is made shows a lot of trust in his coaching staff to elevate these guys today for level find spags doing. What are you good at it. He said you're staying inside no question about it. We have a position for you. He is simplified this defense and he's looked around in d ford when when when when spags was asked about him back when he was still a member of the chiefs. They didn't know he says well. We were talking to the linebacker coach madhouse. We're talking to brennan daily defensive of line coach..

"I know earlier his career here. He caught a lot of heat but he's starting to build a decent stable of guys that he's helped develop in the N._F._l.. So he does a good job here with these guys and I would expect nothing less with awesome writer better. He's not great but he's plenty good. He shelling when he's on the field when it was for the browns or for the chiefs that he's a quality player. He's probably bordering around the average mark for starting N._F._l.. Centers but that's good enough when that's what your entire offensive line is especially especially on the interior and last year we saw when he was in there he more than held his own. He's not as athletic is Mitch Morris or even either guard either side. It'd be more athletic than him but that's okay. He can get out on the move. He can play in Andy Reid system. It's it's just a matter of the fact that he's good enough without being shining star and it's really hard to have five guys that are just at that top-flight level. There's only a handful of offensive lines. Ever that have really had guys is like that. You typically have a piece. That's a little bit weaker. I think maybe that is Austin writer but I still think that yet like Matt said he's going to be league average. I think he'll float around like the Fifteenth Sixteenth Best Center in the League and that's plenty wanted good if you get the rest of that offensive line to play well so I think you'll be fine I know I said that he could do some upgrading last week you know he was a replaceable starter quote unquote but I mean that in the way of he's just average and there is his room to go up from there he could make the leap though from a communication standpoint is going to be important for writer in Mahomes beyond the same page. That's something to keep out an eye out on in the beginning of the season especially mahomes. Generally you know seeing how he processes things is in how he communicates and y you know if he gets things right with protections and stuff. That's that's going to be important for them. This year Andrew Wiley the chiefs McAfee Hill Award winner last year made a big jump improved over the season. He's in Craig. What is your outlook for him starting left guard and overall best most awesome offensive linemen to follow on twitter or social media of any kind? That's that's my outlook on him on this season and now he's great. I Love Andrew Wiley. I think you'll be great this year and I think that he will actually take that next. Step that we're talking about. The Andy Heck will be able to get the most out of him. He's a little bit more of a Mahler and he's also athletic. I think he's GONNA fit really well into Andy Reid scheme. I think we're GONNA talk about him as a very underpaid Jim along this office of line throughout the course of the season yet one hundred percent agree with Craig here. I think that he's GonNa take the next step in. It's Kinda a strange. I think that people have this misconception that injury Wiley that he is a big strong mulling run blocker and he's very good at that he does do that but Andy Reed's reminds people multiple times if you can see it when you go back to watch the cheese he's he's a very good athlete. He gets out in space and he can move. He's not held back pulling laterally getting out in the space in the screen game so he fits what they're trying to do. One hundred percent I know some people really liked Cam Irving's athleticism and he still might be a hair air more athletic than Andrew Wile. It's quite possible cameron organs kind of frigging that way but Andrew Wile e is a great athlete he can do anything you're ever GONNA ask for an offense enliven to do and if he can keep developing as a blocker he's the sky's the limit for him and I really do expected to take a big step this year and probably be considered close to his good is L. D. T. as by cheese fans right now and I think I think Andrew Wylie's in line..
