"It in the next inning and s o. I mean, it is a part of our life didn't get burned because you know, Crawford and get the ball hit to him. But, you know, I just don't like that. I mean, for the longest time, you know, basically, you know, see how right from pictures perspective. What motor you in? Here. There's a ground ball motor, your urine, a strikeout mode, depending on the situation. And when you get a double play situation, and you get that ground ball that, you know, that would be a double play. If the defense was set up for it, that really does piss you off. And you know being the next picture. I I just don't think that's right. You know, but I'm gonna change so okay. I gotta come down. It's alright. Giants 22 14. They're doing pretty good Another, You know, people say, Well, you know if they're still cynics out there Kapler's a bullpen management is sketchy. I don't know well yesterday. Everyone he brought out did their job. Camilo Dove all handed it over to Caleb Burger handed over to a guy. We just don't even talk about really on our show. Exactly Tell he's like most Giants fans wouldn't even know who he was. And then there he is, Jake McGee got we've talked about Jake McGee more than Almost anybody in the first six weeks of the season, But how about that little four Reliever usage yesterday by Kapler. Well, you got it done. He was going to use tighter. Rogers. He was gonna give my day and I think it was a significant save and from the whole group because they weren't using Tyler Rogers. I mean, he's been He's been unbelievable down there and you spend and you know, over half the games, so the fact that they got, you know, two innings worth of outs before they hand the ball to Jake McGee, I thought was big time significance, but they're still trying to find their confidence down there, so they're still shaking again. And in regards to that. Kapler. I think he's been amazing. I really do. I I don't There's not one guy in that clubhouse. That doesn't know what hear what his role is gonna be on that particular day. Kappas ability to communicate and put everybody in the game plan is remarkable. And you know, in the guy's tireless I mean, he gets there, and it's all about communication. It's all about letting guys know what the rules were gonna be, You know, and it's It's amazing the energy that he has going into the game and then we get to the game. You know, he's redefining a lot of Of how baseball is played. We call it the hockey line, the front line, the line change and it's in. We're all that he's educated off of us. That's how they're going to play the game, and he's had to mix and match with guys down there in that bullpen. And I think what he did in yesterday's game was was commendable. And so I like what I'm seeing from the skipper. I like what I'm seeing from the coaching staff. I love how all these guys have bought into it. There's a confidence Because they know what is expected of them. They know what their job is gonna be in that particular given day. It may be different than the day before. It may change in the next day, and but there's There's no confusion whatsoever, and I think when you have that type of commitment mentally from everybody involved, it adds to the chemistry of the team. That was a chemistry win. There are a lot of contributors yesterday's game and we've been able to say that a lot watching this club from day one It hasn't been just throw eight guys out there and let your starters going to have two guys at the back in close it out. You've got 26 guys engaged in that in that game. Even the starters, the starting pitchers. Who are pitching that day. They're sitting there on the bench of the spikes on they could be a part of the plan. And I think that is that's that's an enormous thing When you're putting together chemistry. Yeah, you're right. I mean, bring this Andy Baggaley piece in the athletic where you talked to Alex wouldn't Jake McGee, who are both on the Dodgers last year. Although he notes, they're going to get their world serious rings When the Dodgers come to town next week. It's gonna be kind of having to do it like in the darkness of the tunnel. You can't let Giants fancy that. Joke to say Wait, they gave out rings for that 60 game season ever ring. Maybe Here's the quote Mike. That kind of build on what you were just saying from Alex would, he says. The biggest thing is, the staff has done a great job, communicating roles and what the situation will be on an individual basis that night, whether it's for the pictures or for the hitters. Through that communication. They're able to start to formulate a game plan for how they'll be as ready as possible for whatever their job is for that night as a whole, you see guys doing that, and it's kind of contagious. It's really fun to see guys own their jobs. It's been a lot of great team wins. So far and hopefully it'll continue. That's kind of exactly what you were saying They're from one of the players whose In the dugout in the clubhouse, saying, this is what's going on. Well, I'll give another example of how our confidence Azaz you know, the fans who have been watching this whole team get put together, you know, Think about the guys who've gone out. Dickerson Solano. Just Rimsky. Yeah. Longoria, you know, belts miss time. No. These are significant guys when they've gone out. How confident are we with the people whose coming in there and taking their place? We have been very confident about that. And the FT to I talk about is is, uh Is the confidence. We have been watching the advance. Whoever they are, whoever's coming off the bench. We feel we feel pretty good about it. I don't think there's anybody right there who I'm looking past. Now when they get back in there, and I'm thinking they have a threat. They have a plan. Have a chance. Um, you know, I don't think I've ever felt that way with any Giants team ever. Like I do now, and I think that's you know something that they feel from within and that's significant as you go forth. Look, you're all wondering, Can they sustain this? All of us. But I don't see any reason to doubt it. I really don't. I mean this because there's been so much distribution of of contributions and I think, and I love I love that. I mean, it may be just the T shirt you get for this club is everybody's having a piece of it. Yeah, good. Mike. Just kind of looking around is always keeping our my wary eye on the Padres and Dodgers. They didn't play last night. But did you see what happened to the Padres with this cove? It? Yeah. Fernando tattoos, test positive sodas. Wil Myers. The middle of the game. Now, this is on the heels of the news of the Giants. I think as of tomorrow will be 85%. Were they vaccinated those guys? I don't know. I do know Phil Nevin of the Yankees. Was vaccinated and also tested positive. Heard. That s O. I mean, there's still it's still lurking out there. But Mike, we mean there's good news. Bad bad news is that is happening the Padres. The good news is the Giants might be unmasked on Thursday, we might see Kapler's jawline. The first time ever, but I mean, just your reaction to the Padres and man, you know, you never want to see a team go down..

"But when he's been in there He gets the lion's share of the target's downfield. Remember that game against Philadelphia earlier this year, he was just a monster. He looked like Julio Jones out. They're lining up outside, you know, grabbing state balls running every single kind of route so that the offense did they pay George Kittle for two. It runs through him as far as Fasting targets Go and also the run game runs short Skittles. Well, you could motion and either side and hey, could road great for you. Or he could go out on a on a play action pass, Which is really what makes this offense terms so When you have a kid all centric offense. Think too good receivers that can also run the ball. You know, on jet sweeps and reverses that Kyle Shanahan likes the put in there, and Brandon I You can devote Samuel. I think that's enough for your core. You just have to make sure that these guys stay healthy, right? And then that's icing on the cake. When you talk about Jalen Hurd. I mean, that would be you know if he comes back and is 90% of what the 40 Niners envisioned him to be or even 80%. You're talking about a guy that's 65 £230. You know Justice physically impressive, if not more physically impressive than Nana George Kittle, maybe a little bit more on the receiving end of the spectrum than a tight end. But still a guy that could get really physical who has Our back in SEC pedigree and big 12 receiver pedigree. And you just would throw that in as the fourth or fifth option into the 40 Niners offense, then you're really starting to get into daydreaming territory. Right? So I think that they're fine with the core of kid Ally you can Samuel. Then you know the rotating cast the guys around them and if they can have another powerful weapon like Jalen heard that would just be found money on top of what they already have on this roster. David Lombardi does a great job covering the San Francisco 40 Niners for the athletic David. I wanna flip the attention and conversation to the defense of side of the ball, and I think that most 40 Niners fans have come to the realization that Robert Sala is a real hot commodity in the head coaching market, and there's an expectation probably internally and externally. That solid will get a head coaching job. If Kyle Shanahan does have to pick a successor for him this offseason, given Any inkling as to whether he would prefer to stay inside the building and promote from within or, you know, perform kind of a national search and look at candidates who were on the outside might bring something different to this defense. I'm not really sure how Kyle Shanahan would prefer to go about this. I know that the 40 Niners are very, very happy with What their individual position coaches have done on defense this season than I mean, This is just a testament to the whole coaching operation on that side of the ball, but they have just surged in terms of the fundamentals and tackling this season. You look at any of the advanced metrics there in the top five as far as tackling goes and we'll just watch the film from the Arizona game. It was so impressive teams all around the league have really struggled to take the right angles. Against Skylar Murray and the 40 Niners toe fall of the right angles against him from tar Very small to Marcel Harris. But you know that was a spread attack that Cliff Kingsbury throughout the 40 Niners. And you would think that with so many reserves playing there be tackling sloppiness, and they're absolutely wasn't and there haven't been throughout this season. And I think the 40 Niners really credit The entire staff for that, you know D'Amico, Ryan's the linebackers coach is done a great job. Obviously. Chris Chris Serik, the defensive line coach, is it has, you know worked miracles with a defensive line that didn't really have edge rushers this year. I mean, the numbers haven't been awesome, but he's delivered and scrounged. Effective pressure out of what they have. That doesn't include Nick boats and be Ford. So there seems to be you know they're really content with what the individual position coaches have done, so I don't know if they would really want toe. Reshuffle that now The problem is of Sallah leaves. He could potentially take. You know one of those coaches with him to be his defensive coordinator, wherever he goes, So, um it's gonna be tough. But if The 40 Niners want to maintain as much continuity is possible. Stay that say that all the position coaches stay. Then you could look at a guy like Dan Quinn. You know, who is one of the elder statesmen when it comes to this 43 scheme that they run, and he might be able to give you what Sala Has given them at the top and let everything else kind of stay stable, So they really like what they have now, and I know that Kyle Shanahan wants to maintain as much continuity as possible, said it before I'll say it again. 40 Niners one of the most interesting teams to follow as we get into this office is a lot going on David Lombardi from the athletic appreciate your time. Good to catch up, but and have a happy new year. Yeah. Thank you. Happy New Year. Me ask you this. Yeah, our depot and I yuk in any way. Redundant. Mm hmm. That's a good question. That's a tough one to answer. I think that even if they are a little bit redundant, they're complimentary in a Kyle Shanahan offense to where he wants balance on both sides of the field. Unpredictability is a key and being able to have two guys with relatively similar skills. As I would say that Debo is a little more physical and Brandon I use about I think £10 bigger a bit, but physically, they're not that far apart, and I trust they'll said Why. Same for Well, I trust that you cause a route runner a little bit more at this point. His career and and a better deep ball guy, And so I think that they are complimentary enough, But are they redundant? Sure, in many ways, yet I'm not sure that that hurts the offenses Long as George Cable is on the field. Yeah, I think that's a good answer. I think that in this offense that's probably OK for the long term. I guess. I guess I just I want to be able to wrap my brain around that these are your two guys. And they are you're legit one A and one B wide receivers going forward, and you don't have to worry. You need death. Obviously, you're gonna have to address the receiver room, and I think it's gonna look different next year, But at the end of the day, these are your two guys. And you know you got your your one, and you're too and they're your starters for the next attack least three years, right And you don't have to worry about it. I guess that's what I'm trying to. I want to feel comfortable with that. And let's say that the 40 Niners get to a position 2021 where there once again challenging for a division title in a playoff chase, and they understand that Ask your Emanuel san. You know, your five into you get you get your Sanders and you go out and you give up your third round pick from the following off season because the 40 Niners under John Lynch have shown a willingness to do that. When they're ready to compete. They will wheel and deal and they will use draft picks to their advantage. And that's why it could be a really fun draft this year because the 40 hours could have a lot of picks, and they could go all in on a few guys that would really make them fun. Or they could have, you know a bunch of depth and hopefully hitting on guys. 3rd 5th Round Fred Ward. George Kendall, come to mind that could really form the foundation of this future. Like I said, it's gonna be fascinating. Hardest job in football. John Lynch this offseason the hardest. Whoever inherits that Houston Texans job was, you're not gonna do anything for three years, right? What time's bags four o'clock or so He's like coming up next. Absolutely. Wow. All right, so excited. So are our deep NFL dive is gonna have to wait because we're gonna talk a little baseball looking forward to it. Time to talk and out. "I know it must be worth in back available now on your apple pods, Smart speaker to say play KNBR. Yeah, well, the Giants remember them. They haven't seen orange baseball and Jastremski. Somewhere in there looking like a friend you'll lose touch with for a while and you need to get re acquainted briefly showed up on Sunday. But since they didn't play Friday, didn't play Saturday. Didn't play Monday. Didn't play Tuesday. They're back tonight. At Oracle Park only to be the visiting team wearing road graze in batting in the top of the first so all crazy stuff to talk about with Andy Baggaley of the athletic Our weekly check in here, Andrew Good morning on the home a guest line. How are you? Hey, bags. Good morning. Good morning. How's everybody? We're breathing a little better, right? Conceive this guy That's good. Yeah, This guy's actually blew its like that. That's the color should be no man's amazing thing. It was one week ago today, I think was the orange Day was that was the Mars Day, So we've come a long way, baby. Okay, let's go through before getting some big picture giant stuff. Just go with the nitty gritty details here. They're the visiting team for the next two days. They'll be wearing their road grays and In baton in the top of the inning. I guess we stopped short of change in dugouts cell, right, Andy? Yeah, I think they're going to use the same dugout. Same clubhouse is for visiting at home. And we've seen this before. In 2013, there was was now in Cincinnati on July 4th. And I know the Reds did not want to give up. It was a son, a crowd. Obviously fireworks and everything like that. And then just when the weather was awful, he couldn't get it in. And the only time they had left on the schedule. I think there was like there was a mutual ofthe day where the Giants were gonna be finishing the course field. In the rock here in the red, you be alive. There was some talk that they would move it to a neutral site course killed game because of what happened to intersect there. But then they said, no 23 games in a row. We're not gonna do that. Let's just have the Reds play. The home team in San Francisco when they visit San Francisco later on in July. So that's what they did. And Dusty Baker was the manager then in the giant's plate, game one of the home team and played that everybody changed uniforms. They played a game to is the road team in the Reds. You know about it, Suck it, And so that's that's kind of a flavor of what we're going to see you in the next two games. The Mariners, you're going to be designated. Home team. No man. So there you go, Guys, don't you've been amply warned. If you tune in tonight and you see the Giants in Grey don't flip out. It's just for the next two days actually know. Then they'll go to Oakland, where their graves on Friday so I guess the biggest news to happen to them other than this crazy travel in the false Covic Dickerson is the Kevin Gausman news. And just kind of get to get the latest no structural damage. But are we Are we certain that he can pitch this weekend accomplished there? They still gonna wait a day or two. Well get capital. Did hedge a little bit, He said. Look, we still need to make sure that he's gonna be okay to make this start this weekend. No clearly got some inflammation in there because he wouldn't have tightness otherwise, so I'm sure they're doing things to try to calm that down. But, yeah, no. No structural damage. That's that, obviously is is really good news and you just celebrated could get these days. So ah, They're looking to hold him back in this weekend against the A's, and that's just going to be so critical. I mean, regardless of the fact that he's you know, private, their best starting pitcher this year. They just don't have a whole lot of rotation depth. And now all of a sudden you're in a position where instead of having a lot of flexibility with one ofthe day coming up Thursday that that's not going to be an offing island. In fact, we're going to end the season. With 13 games in 12 days, so they're they're starting pitching is really going to be tested. You know, one through five or beyond. So not having Kevin Gausman be a part of that mixed with the world be a crippling blow to this team even more so and, uh and then you look at the play offs and if you start having Cem Some hope that the Giants could sneak out of a first round. Siri's. Now you look at the way that the division series in the LCS or set up there's no off days anymore, so teams can't sort of, you know, deploy their ace multiple times in a row. A five game series. So Yeah, Rotation depth is going to be really, really important. If if you dare to dream a little bit, it's It's huge news. And by the way, forgive my ignorance here on the 13 games in 12 days, which is the doubleheader they have coming up. Yeah, they haven't rescheduled the one game in San Diego that they couldn't make up. They only made of one of the two games. We only played three out of four that responsibly in San Diego. So so they're going to fold that we're back in when the Padres visit for the final Siri's final weekend of the regular season. And they haven't announced when that's gonna be yet And that would be one for the road Graze again, Boy. I would presume. So This's the reason where their home whatever word yellow, whatever whatever the designate camera and by the way, just a quick detour on the Padres because we talked about this with Mike and Dwayne Monday and Tuesday Tuesday Wednesday, but I said, it's like the Giants are watching the neighbors fight, right. You're out on the lawn. You're here and you're seeing these two neighbors have a dispute, and they're yelling at each other for the Padres and Dodgers, or Ah, they're ramping up intensity and the Niners. The Giants are kind of Ah, eating their popcorn up here in San Francisco, watching Yeah, It's been some interesting theater and ah ah, transgression and clean her shot and wounded a little bit Dave around getting into it And, you know, really, It's kind of interesting thought exercises do the Giants and you may get in as the number eight C and you're going to face pretty much. Whoever wins in a West has one seat. Who would you rather him serious? Would you rather face the pod ways Would you rather face But the daughters or I don't know not only entertainment purposes that chance and knock out the Dodgers go to something Giants fans would want to relish..
