The Golden State Warriors Path to Regain Glory
"Hello hello pablo. I am so excited to talk to you today. Because you have been digging into the golden state warriors and you've talked to their players. Their coaches their executives. But i want to know what other people are curious about. They hear that you're writing a future on the warriors. What did they want to know can still work can steph curry dragged his team by the scruff of its neck into the playoff field. Can they approximate without klay thompson. Kevin durant gone even a glimmer of what they were during their dynasty. And that's what people wanna know. And at the center of all of this kevin this week in particular is steph curry and we can't begin this conversation without talking about what he did specifically on sunday night. How would you describe what you saw. It was a volcano curry leads. In one hand or just off balance grows it up. It's good he's got fifty. Career screen takes a deep free. It's god fifty nine points. Curry takes another three. It's up job. He's got sixty two just unspeakable three point attempts that no person with a good conscience ever a nation of basketball coaches is freaking out. Because they're going to have fourteen year olds in practice pulling up from thirty seven feet. There was the sense coming out of their very met to into road trip. That steps showing few signs he might. It's gonna happen. It may happen. Don't you think it's going to happen. He's starting to move differently. We're starting to find him. The ball and places he likes it and as draymond green said to somebody on the staff. All it takes is one in. We saw that one sunday night against portland and essentially recreated the steph. We knew for those five years over the dynasty. Let's be clear about what the prelude to that career high sixty two was because he was shooting. What like twenty percent from three in those first two games so when people are begging hoping for that volcano to start shaking again. Why do you think it actually ended up exploding as it did. I mean one is just the laws of inevitability second is in your staff. They all emphasize this. And it sounds a little bit like spin. If you're if you're sort of cynical which is look. He's playing with guys that he's never played with before. But when you really start digging into it and you remember what it was like to watch the weird they don't run scripted sets all that much mall. Those great beautiful plays that you see that. Look like basketball ballet. They use intuition. They use a million reps playing together to sort of know where everybody's going to be almost telepathically on the floor. And so you've seen that a million times steph. Runs comes off a pick and roll. He gives the ball up. He relocates to the corner other people kind of follow him there. Somebody comes off the other side and then steph kind of relocates again and you find him and it's so second nature if you watched it for five straight years you come to take it for granted but if the other guys on. The floor aren't versed in the dark arts of golden state warriors movement. It's harder and it was something that i think other teammates. The new guys andrew wiggins kelly oubre rookie. James wideman guys. Who haven't played as long with him. It takes a little while to get in the rhythm. There was like a moment. I think in the milwaukee their second loss of the season where you saw step come off one of those speaking roles and he was going to kind of go fast too slow to the right corner and there was somebody there right and it wasn't the fault of a teammate. It's just they're not equipped with the intuition and just the nuances of golden state warriors basketball. Which essentially is how do we find steph. The right shot at the right moment at the right time precisely where he wants it. It's funny

"And he was driving home. I don't know what time it was, but Listen to what he said. Just kind of started. Got our trainers involved. Got him on the phone with him. They talked to him and then started setting up Way toe find out more information. Really? And then I had to get back to the draft. So Hard to disengage mentally from it, but we had a lot of stuff going on. Assed for his drafts and trades potential other things, so I couldn't really Let my mind go all the way there, but Now the drafts over and we'll find out more tomorrow. That was general manager Bob Meyers doing his press conference post draft and yes, they select James Wiseman, and they have a lot of expectations for him. But it doesn't work without clay. Like it could be good. They could have a good team. They've got Steph Curry, presumably fully healthy, They were able T give an Andrew Wiggins some reps even with Steph when Steph returned last year from the Shoot, broken hand had a broken hand. It was out a lot longer than what you would anticipate, but they had no reason to bring him back. In fact, he had only been back a few weeks when the MBA shut down completely. So it's just a weird situation. Dreamin was in and out of the lineup, of course, because they didn't know he was banged up. They let's be honest, the Warriors that group of Warriors has played a ton of basketball over the last five years before this past season. And then to not see them in the bubble because they had the worst record in the league. I mean, there was something missing. And I know I'm speaking for me, But I am also speaking for a lot of you fans that love the Warriors brand of basketball that made the Splash Brothers the most watched team by far over the last few years. I mean, they believed internally, and certainly the idea was externally that last year was the aberration last year because of the loss of Clay Thompson and you know the tourney CL steps injury. The fact that Cady had also tourney his Achilles but had moved on. Onto somewhere else. And they had made these kind of trades. Audrey Agudelo was with the Miami heat. I mean, they made these trades to clear cap space and try to figure out ways to keep their core together. The D'Angelo Russell experiment didn't work. I'm not sure they were ever fully committed to it, but they really like Andrew Wiggins. They knew they were gonna have a high draft pick. They've got roll guys, They've got coach Kerr. I mean, they really believe that last year was going to be just a one year blip on the radar and back, they would catapult. Into the realm of contenders, if not a favorite for the NBA championship. And so, Yeah, I mean, I I Don't want to make the entire hour about this, but I feel like this has definitely overshadowed whatever we saw on what is typically a dream come true Knight for the NBA draft. Warriors' plan aims to allow 50% fan capacity
"Year. We should have something to cheer about. But now, of course No fans or will there be? Or in the ESPN. Ramona Shelburne. Warriors have a plan a very expensive plan. Get 50% capacity at Chase Center this year. If you might be saying deter, how the hell are they going to do that? And I asked the same question. And I'm still pretty skeptical that they can pull this off because as of yesterday or maybe even the day before that, I believe they just rolled back. Lot of openings that we were doing here in the city of San Francisco. Situation is not getting better. Getting worse. We're not going to get into the nitty gritty of that. Because that is something I'm not fully qualified to do, Nor probably are you unless you are. George Rutherford, Dr Jordan Rutherford Police feel free to call in Anyway, KNBR. Warriors want to get 50% capacity. At Chez Center. And here's How Joe Lake up who, by the way Bio tech billionaire public health. Degree from U C. L A nose a little bit about. This has a little bit of expertise in this area. I wouldn't say he's epidemiologists or anything like that. I wouldn't put him in charge of the Coronavirus task force. Or anything like that, but certainly more qualified than myself. To figure out how to get 50% capacity. At Chase Center. Now bear with me hear it does get a little In the weeds. But when we're talking about this, we need to be specific about what the hell's going on. This information is important, even if it is a little dense. I'll do my best here but bear with me. The plan is Lakers going to spend $30 million Which you might say That's chump change. That's an Andrew Wiggins. The test every fan employees and player Media to be determined. I would imagine that he's not going to spend the money on us Can't really blame him. Of course, you will have masks and you will have distancing. But the plan is they're going to use a rapid PCR test. So the PCR test that's the deep one right where they get real up in the nose. Those were supposed to be about 99% accurate Now, Joe Lake Up, says he's gotta read. He's got a He's got a guy. He's got a plug. You can get him rapid PCR tests. That means 20 minutes or so you could get an answer, as opposed to what we saw with Major League baseball, where it's 24 hours later, which worked out great at the end of the World Series. I mean bang up job. Think about the amount of times that baseball had a problem this year because of the delay. We're going from 24 hours to 20 minutes. And you might go. We already have rapid testing like that, Peter, we do. There. Auntie Gin tests. Now this is this is the difference. The PCR is the 99% 1. So that's finding any kind of the virus. In your nose. Going up in there finding some of the virus. And then through technology being able to figure out, you know. If you have it or not, If you can't find it after the amplifying, amplifying, amplifying, amplify you don't have it. You got a little bit it. The anti Jin tests are different. They're looking for something that is bound. To the virus. Basically, you have to be shedding the virus in order for the anti Jin test to succeed. Now, those tests are very fast. Take like 10 15 minutes, right? You could get a result. If you're shedding the virus, you probably are showing some symptoms. And so it's estimated. But there is a 30 to 50% miss rate. With these rapid auntie gin tests. Which at a certain point you're like, Why are we bothering with him? Why are we spending all this money? The PCR is the way to go to believe to be 99% accurate. If we could have a situation where the PCR test He's going as fast as the anti gene tests. I don't know about you. But 99% is a lot better than 50% or even 70% on its best day. The Joe Lake up once rapid PCR tests for every fan player and employees. On day of game. Now. I don't know what it's not like You could put everybody in a room in test. Um, just sit around. Mean Chase Center has a great filtration from everything I heard. I heard that well before you know, we really cared about filtration because that was something I cared about him. Big fan, big fan of ventilation. I think they can change out. The air and Chase Center four times an hour like change out the entirety of the air, which seems like a pretty good thing to do. You could also have nothing but outside air coming in. Really let it flow. And I say that would be a good plan. But these rapid PCR tests are the difference. And then George Rutherford. The After mentioned George Rutherford public health expert saying This is as close to a perfect plan as I've seen
How Doris Burke Became An Accidental Pioneer
"We'll. So Dana I can you tell us a little bit about your own relationship with Doris Burke Yeah? I'm Lucky Kavita I. Mean I worked at ESPN for eight years. So Doris was one of the people that I interacted with frequently. I mean we had so much in common with our love for college basketball and we would just chat at games or she shoot me a text. Love that story that you did today you are. You're just you know you did a great job you knocked it out of the park or I would text her. So we've gone back for years and She's just always been the same. That's the coolest thing I can say about Dr is I don't care if she's super popular people are making t-shirts. Drake and all this, and she's still the same that she was when I first met her how would you describe her on air personality and her style in the booth I think what people like about Dr She's She's she's very intelligent and on point about all of her observations, he's got US billy. Donovan says excellent lower body strength and he doesn't reach over. Don't give the official even a window cut the angle. She is not loud. She's not there's no stick to her tough shot contest. Yes. Yes she says something and she really hones in her. She really calls somebody out everyone's Kinda like both. To Me is where Andrew Wiggins has stood in the corners on several possessions. Like steals reporter to. And if you talk to people in the game, they actually say that they they are very respectful of her opinion and they know if she has a problem with something, then there's a problem. We'll Dana you recently wrote a profile on doors for the athletic I. can you tell us a little bit about her background and her early days? She's like a lot of us or at least like me you know kids that grew up just interested in sports. Super. Star Sable. Start Tonight number eleven she moved from Long Island to the Jersey shore to a small town happened to be a park across the street and a basketball hoop and it was like divine intervention right? She hadn't really played a lot of basketball growing up in Long Island. But when she moved, she was young enough that she just that's where she went and there was never a sense of Oh Doris girls don't play sports. It was just whatever you're busy go outside and play sable from outside. and. So she just became a really good ballplayer where really good basketball players are often developed, which is on the playgrounds took all comers boys girls didn't care. The BUZZER GUARD SABLE Head. And grew into a good enough. Basketball players to get a scholarship to providence. We forget that that was a really big deal for young women. Athletes are just weren't a lot of them. That wasn't normal and she recognize it immediately as what it was. It was a ticket for her to get to college and pay for college and established herself in a career. She wasn't there was no WNBA obviously, she knew that this was the path for her future in her life and she just kinda followed it along. Well, she definitely likes to make fun of herself when talking about in her plane, I had it all going on bad hair bad teeth bad clothes, and the only thing I care about whether my jump shot would ever Mack my triple driveability. She does she downplays herself. She doesn't think she wasn't. You know whatever she wasn't the greatest player. You know she was more of a thoughtful player than a an athletic player that sort of thing. Yeah. I mean she's very self deprecating even about her broadcasting career, which is just hilarious. But again, that's what makes Dr. Stars is that she doesn't take herself too seriously. How did she get her start in broadcasting accidentally which I think I can relate that myself but in her circumstance she was coach she went back to providence to be a coach but then she got married and she got to look around. You know this was back when there weren't a lot of. MOMS that were coaches, you know a lot of coaches, maybe one or the other they couldn't do both and she really thought I want to start a family. So she stepped away from coaching and by Dumb luck at the same time Providence decided you know what? We could put a couple of women's basketball games on the radio and we need somebody to do the radio for us and Ella Dar's. You're sitting there. Why don't you do this and she did and she jokes pie five people are listening you probably honestly not wrong. Let's be honest providence women's basketball and some regional network probably not like drawing huge numbers but she loved it and it was easy and it was comfortable and that just sort of Begat one opportunity after another and an big break came because one of the men's basketball. Analyst for the Big East Games couldn't make it into a providence men's game and they were desperate and that she tells us hilarious story was at the emergency room with her son. He had fallen off the weight bunch cut his head open blood everywhere. She's GONNA to bloody shirt and they told her to come down and do play by play and she said, well, I can't play by play but I'll do the color and boom she's on TV and there she. Is I mean no intent to climb some corporate ladder it just sort of opportunity presented itself and she took it.
NBA mock draft: Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball as top pick?
"Minnesota Timberwolves had these third worst record this season but won the lottery last night and we'll select first overall in the upcoming NDA draft. lamelo ball has been consistently ranked in the top three prospects. This year's draft and is now projected to go number one overall in this warnings latest mock draft. So Shannon showed the wolf take. That's the question. SKIP. They moved heaven and earth to get the annual Russell. They have Kat Karl Anthony towns they have Andrew. Wiggins. Mellow. Foot. Compatible with very creative thing is that shot is on off the dogs like his brother Lonzo. Beating, people out the dribbling what's the unknowns they've only seen him for twelve games. Now, he's relatively nineteen years of age I. Think Turns Nineteen Couple Days Tomorrow Okay, yeah? But if you look at it all the top picks, you look Anthony Edwards, he's a guard top top in the when he was player of the year this year I think he's I think he's a three and then James Wiseman. semple. Put One. Nineteen and ten before he was A. Re declared ineligible Yup. Could Lamelo in the Angelo play together? Bass. The question skill that really that's what it comes down to. It's not about Oh, man, he was good. He can do that Kenny play together because you gave up and you have this guy he on Amax Contract Dry d? Rosana mags contract Anthony towns. contract. So Somebody willing to move is somebody will wars the Melo over that? No more big deal with me. So buddy I I would I would move. But if I if I gotta stay there probably I probably would take. I'm taking him I. Don't know what it is about me and these bonkers.
Curry scores 23 in return, but Raptors clinch playoff spot
"Stephan curry made his return to the war years after missing fifty eight games with a broken left hand and led Golden State with twenty three points but the raptors pulled away to win at one twenty one one thirteen curry was six of sixteen from the floor and made only three of twelve from beyond the arc but two of those threes were from over thirty feet is definitely weird everything seemed to be going pretty fast as we can simulate you know that game intensity and screen shot do I came into work hours but just another scan controversial spontaneously also had twenty three points and Andrew Wiggins added twenty one but the raptors Norman Powell had a career high thirty seven points and Kyle Lowry had twenty six Ryan Leon San Francisco

"Ear as currently constructed man? That's tough put you on the hot seat. I mean it's hard to go against Lebron in a D as as duo but when you look at the clippers they at least have the pieces that you would think as as far as what you need to win the playoffs they can. They can beat you defensively. They've got great defensive wings they have guys who can switch in that way. They can be a great defensive team on paper and offensively they have a bunch of guys who are shot. Makers you have Kawhi Leonard. You have Paul George Lou Williams. Now you got Marcus. It's more than a mantras herald is certainly a threat. That's five guys on your team. Who on any given night can get you twenty plus points and can create a shot or create an opportunity community in some way? I think obviously would trez. It's more about attacking the glass and getting opportunities that way. But you know him in the pick and roll with Lou will is Super Dangerous Zain. PG are about as good ice. Oh Ball as anyone. We've seen especially in the playoffs. So I think in that way the clippers make a lot of senses on paper favorite but man. How are you going to go against Lebron and a D.? And certainly all. The data team is playing for emotionally nationally in the wake of Kobe. Bryant's passing and and everything that comes with that it's really tough to see. I don't know maybe that's just the emotional side of it. I think tactically. The clippers should be favorite. But there's just something about who the Lakers have in what they're playing for. That makes you think that at the end of the day. They're the team that's GONNA come came out on top. I just hope we get to see Lakers clippers in the western conference finals. I think that would be an amazing series. We were NFL fans out there. We were already robbed of Ravens the chiefs and the conference finals in the NFL. Hopefully we can see Lakers clippers because it would be amazing. I want to ask you this. To which team do you think is better situated waited for the future We talked about this year. Obviously but Lakers or clippers. Which team do you think is better situated for the long haul? ooh I mean they're both kind of screwed right because they won't traded tons of picks to get the teams that they have. I think you could argue that the Lakers these are slightly better situated. Because they have number one they have. Anthony Davis who is a little bit younger than coli and Paul George so he as someone who in theory should be someone they can build around for a long time assuming that he returns after this season whether by opting into the final year of his deal or signing an extension of some sort and also You Know Kyle. Kuzma is is a promising young player. Who I think has had his issues the season in terms of finding his role and figuring out how he fits in which is not unusual for new talented players on teams with Lebron and another superstar? But when you you look at that potential mini nucleus of ad and Calcutta. That's certainly promising. It's not just obviously. If you're the clippers you have you have Paul George. That's great but you don't know what's going to happen with mantras Harrell this summer Lou Williams is GonNa get up there and PG certainly have their injury reissues and they could both be gone after next season as well so think. There's a little bit more uncertainty there with the clippers. But you know the Lakers. You're talking about Lebron James Going into his late thirties too. So it's kind of a toss up but as long as the Lakers are able to retain Anthony Davis for the long-haul I think he still has more upside to realize either of the clippers stars right now. Yeah I agree with that. I think you'd have Lebron passing torch to ad and all signs point to him resigning as of right now. So I think that's why my pick to especially with the whole situation with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in their shorter contracts. Had they made that deal in brought those two guys and they signed long-term deals No longer deals like we saw in Brooklyn for example they don't feel a little bit about it but The fact that they could leave so soon after in the clippers gave so much to get them. That just kind of scares me a bit but obviously we. You know we're picking these. Two teams are an amazing position. Going forward it doesn't get much better than having to elite players that could go off any given night and They're they're both an excellent position but I was just curious there. Let's talk about the Golden State Warriors. Now they traded diangelo Russel to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They got back. Andrew Wiggins got back top three protected first round. Pick in two thousand twenty one. I believe Do you think Golden State got enough for Russell. We talked talked about this on our trade deadline. Recap podcast. I wasn't a fan of the move. I'm not a big Andrew Wiggins fan so I felt like there was no pressure. No sense of urgency for them to do this deal right now. I think they could wait until the off season and maybe offers would improve or more teams will come to the table. So I wasn't a huge fan of this I I thought they could have gotten more for him because at the end of day. He's a twenty three road all star. But I know that there's some people that believe Andrew wiggins could You know really developing Golden State. The only good job of getting the most out of their players even guys this year they brought in like Alec burks Cauley Stein. They were able to develop them and flip them for you. Know some assets. So we're where do you stand on this deal. Do you think Russell are enough for Russell. And then do you think wiggins is going to be a good fit in golden state especially alongside oxide Steph Curry Klay Thompson and draymond green next year. I think that's what the warriors are curious to find out and they must have had a sense that some level that they didn't see a a really snug fit for Dangelo going forward and Diangelo had even mentioned times that you know he was learning to play more off the ball but that's wasn't really his strength and obviously if you're going to be on a team with staff and clay and draymond particularly steph and Draymond says those are your top playmakers on the warriors. Then you're gonNA have to get used to playing a secondary role and I don't know that de Ngelo really fit that as well You Know Ah certainly the timing is an ideal maybe the warriors could have gotten more bullock. They got what could be a really nice pick that they can use either themselves jobs or as trade bait going into this summer they'll have one of the top picks most likely in this year's draft which is probably a little bit weaker compared to what we'll see in two thousand twenty one and you know people have jumped off the Andrew Wiggins bandwagon pretty quickly. But he's not exactly you know he's not exactly an an old an old fart out there you know chomping around on on the court like he's only a year older really today or you're older today then Diangelo Russel. They both will be celebrating their birthdays on February. Twenty third as it happens now. Wiggins is a guy who's average better than twenty points for game two into prior seasons in his NBA career. I think he's a very productive player. Obviously he hasn't taken full advantage. I would say all of the gifts that he has but I think there's still a lot of potential there in that maybe ultimately he was miscast as a number one or even a number two star. You're on a team. Because he was the number one pick and he came in with all this hype is Maple Jordan and all that I think in Golden State. He'll have an opportunity to settle in his. Maybe the third or fourth option a guy who can you know play some defense hopefully hit some shots. Have some big games here and there but doesn't have to be the Guy Hi and look. The warriors had a very similar player to Andrew Wiggins Before they had Kevin Durant and a guy in Harrison Barnes and they won a championship and went to the finals again with Harrison Barnes playing alongside their nucleus. So a Andrew Wiggins is is a younger version of Harrison. Barnes at this point is the guy who is probably a little bit better overall as a basketball player. Obviously he's not Kevin head so but nobody's Kevin Durant so I think he can be someone someone they can least evaluate alongside their nucleus down the stretch of the season when stuff comes back and who knows maybe Klay. We'll be back at some point. Yeah no I do agree with that. I here's my thing on weekends. So when I look at Wigan's sometimes players do perform better when they're in a situation where they could win a championship If you're losing a lot of games and you're in Minnesota it can be frustrating and maybe you're not giving it your all. They were a lot of questions about wiggins and not reaching its full potential. So maybe maybe being around the Golden State Development Staff and being with so many great leaders like Steph clay and drain on Steve Kerr you know maybe that will give him the boost I he needs and some players. They need that kick or change of scenery to realize their full potential de Ngelo Russell Gray example of that we saw that in Brooklyn and he was kind humbled by being traded wiggins was a number one overall pick who was given this massive contract. Even though some people feel he didn't deserve it And that's that's kind of. That's always been my thing. So I talked to you an executive that you know work closely with wiggins and he even said. Why would this kid change at this point in his career? He has been the top recruit in the country. The number draft pick. He had a crazy shoe deal. He had Max Contract given doom and all along. He's been the same person he hasn't worked worked very hard. He hasn't had to realize its full potential and he's never really had to Care about basketball one hundred percent and he's been rewarded for doing that you know he's gotten all this money and all these accolades and why would he change now after all. That's behind him and we've all kind of validated elevated his mindset in the way that he's been all along so when I heard that I thought wow that's actually really interesting. He was handed a starting job. He was he's been given all all these things. So why chain now but maybe being traded and being a we have Minnesota. Okay we give up. You know what we're going to give you away. Maybe that is the kick that he needs to kind of. Snap out of it and say okay. I need to start being more of a team player. I need to start working harder. And sometimes that comes with maturity to sometimes sometimes you know early on your career thinking let me just get as much money as possible. Get as many endorsement deals as possible and show. I belong here and then later on your career. That's when it's like like. Oh Wow. I really need to win. And you start. Focusing on more of the team will comes first for the team so I could be wrong as of right now. I have those doubts about wiggins based based on what we've seen so far but maybe in golden state we will see that He is more of a team player and he does work harder and he comes closer to realizing realizing its full potential. So I don't know I do hope we can see that from him. It's just I will say with that contract. That was something that always scared me with wiggins because he has three three more years after this will and he'll be making around thirty million dollars next year thirty one point five million following year thirty three point six million a year after that but with golden state. They already have Steph Curry Klay Thompson. Draymond green locked up on long term deal so I think for other teams that are still want to try to find star players and they want that Catholic ability. That's one thing but for Golden State where they feel. Okay we already have our stars locked up. We don't really need that cap space..

"On the road beating twice this year to the warriors yesterday. They traded the Angela Russell to the timber. Wolves for Andrew Wiggins a twenty one dollars protected first rounder and at twenty twenty two second round pick the Golden State Warriors Warriors are twelve and forty the state warriors have the worst record in the NBA. Okay hold on go ahead sorry. I'm just curious what what what you made of all the while I love the NBA. I love it. I have been in football mode for about four months now obviously asleep even more so with my hometown. Chief playing in the Super Bowl. Just got back from Miami. So maybe I've been a little disconnected so I do have to ask our NBA insider And also boxing insider Chris Mannix. The question is there another Andrew Wiggins and the League there are two guys is guys like the same names or is this the guy that was the number one pick for the cavs traded for Kevin Love and as arguably the worst contract from the sport. Same Guy that's the guy man. We are light years away from the warriors. Light years ahead of the whole rest of the league. The the hell you doin' Bob Myers the next time. Steph curry takes. The court is going to be thirty two years old because he had a hand. Amputation evidently is the world's worst hand injury we've ever seen you. Now you have to untradable contracts now draymond four for one hundred Draymond has specific value for your team. I'm not saying Jeremiad player. I'm saying even if he's a good player. That contract is not movable because he's unique to what you do with Stephan Clay Wiggins is is horrifying. All the smart numbers show you. He's never been contributing to a contributing factor to winning at any point in his career except upper ten games to start this season and they went right back to being Andrew Wiggins what they did here was they traded the better player and Dental Russell's not a perfect player but when they got him we knew it was to flip at some point right. They traded a better player on a bad contract for a worst player on a bad contract. And they gotta pick back that needs to have gone the other way you flip the Angelo plus your pick coming this year this offseason four a contributor now by the time Lamelo Ball or whoever the hell you draft this year is ready to compete steps. Going to be thirty six years old. And you're done I I cannot this is the most shocking. NBA Trade. As far as that. What are you thinking in recent memory? There've been shocking trades like. I didn't see Paul George getting traded. But I understood the logic of it. Can you help elucidate this for me. Like what is the logic of this if you're golden state no I don't like this trade at all for Golden State for for the same reasons you articulated their eye off the top. I love this trait from Minnesota because now you're rebuilding timber wolves you've got towns you've got Russell great great relationship with those two guys. You are starting the process of digging your way out of this whole but my whole thing with the Angelo Russell was hold onto him through the trade deadline. Line Minnesota's thirst for de Ngelo Russell. They like they had been pursuing him for seven months they would pursued him for three or four more. You wait Out if you still want to make the same deal that would still be on the table but by taking russell out of the equation. You remove yourself from the possibility of going big game. Hunting this off. off-season Russell has proven in two different systems that he is an all-star calendar player he wasn't Brooklyn in a different system. Go thought it was really good so far this year. So if you get to the end of the season and let's say the Lottery Ping Pong balls go your way you get the second pick in the drawer. You can take de Ngelo Russell and the second pick in the draft and see what's out there see what's available billable. What happens next? We just talked about Ben Simmons and then Philadelphia. What happens if they fizzle out in that first or you can go to Philadelphia and say Hey Deangelis Russell and the second pick in the trash you can drop Anthony Edwards? You can drive James. We can whoever you want. And you can have a point guard who might fit better playing alongside alongside beat without it. You have wiggins who is not going to have anywhere near the same value in that type of bad basketball player. He's owed ninety five million dollars dollars over the next three years starting next year it. It's unspeakable they did this. I listen I people think I dislike the warriors things they've done that'd be irradiated me but going into this year I said I thought they could be six feet. I thought that of clay came back at the end of the season. They could be dangerous and that starting next year we'll we'll see if they can rejuvenate the old splash brother fifteen sixteen team and be dangerous. It's over for them now. We will never see step in another NBA finals ever they. They have no path forward drums thirty Claes thirty steps about to be thirty. Two when he takes the court again in mid March one would assume I. I they are Draymond wiggins clay and Steph next year one hundred twenty eight million for the cap caps one fifteen. They have no way to get better now and you can say Ooh now they have their top five pick. If Minnesota's terrible next year a good pick me and young players do not help you in the playoffs unless you're the raptors the last this young player to make a big impact in the NBA finals part of the Raptors was Co.. Why seven years ago? I I can't believe Bob Myers did this. I I you just can't I'm. I'm shocked that they went this route. Instead of what you're saying. Take your own pick parrot with your best asset that you actually might move and try to get someone who can help you. I I would love to see Steph. Curry's live reaction to this because he now is go. Play with Andrew Ward a little bit of shot Friday there for Nick. You've always been sort of well. Yeah but I want to see them again. Have like with the old fifteenth the Pre K. D. Warriors and. I guess we'll see but Andrew wiggins going to be out there and in terrible long too. That's their boy. They are hoping Andrew wiggins becomes Harrison Barnes and they can put together a finals type of team. I'm skeptical for the same reasons you are but maybe a change change of scenery changes wiggins. I doubt it. That's the only six years in this fired up.
Warriors trade D'Angelo Russell to Wolves for Andrew Wiggins
"And twenty the warriors finish off the trade deadline yesterday with a trade of de Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in return the warriors get former number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins as well as a pair of draft picks a fourth rounder and a second rounder from twenty twenty one top three protected for that first rounder from Minnesota courtesy going to rule
Warriors deal Russell to Wolves, get back Wiggins
"For people that missed it. The warriors and Timber Wolves agreed on trade us in the Ngelo Russell Jacob Evans in Amari spelman to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins a a top three protected twenty twenty one first round pick and a twenty twenty two second round pick. I like to steal from Minnesota. I think Karl Anthony towns and de Ngelo. They're obviously good friends. And that's big because towns it's been very frustrated recently but again let's get back to what the warriors got back in return. I'm not a big Fan. I'm not a fan of that that contract but I guess when you're the warriors they're already a situation where a lot of their guys are locked up so I understand that for them. It doesn't matter as much for another team they just Trying to add a guy that can help them on both ends of the floor and the contract isn't as big of a deal for them. But I just think with twenty-three-year-old all-star which is what Russell was he. He was an all star last year. I just don't think that's enough to get back in return. I do like that. They got the draft pick again. Talk Re protected. Twenty twenty. One should be a much better draft twenty twenty based on what the experts are all saying so in top. You're protected. I mean this Minnesota team made it could finish between four and ten could end up being lottery picked so I do think that is very valuable. That's my favorite part of the acquisition here for the warriors I just feel like with wiggins. He's been so disappointing. Maybe maybe they feel like they can help him reach us well potential. We know they've done a very good job of developing guys. They have great leader as a strong culture which may really help someone like wiggins. This could be totally wrong around here. I will admit that maybe wiggins goes there and this is exactly what he needed to reach us and become a better player in guys like Steph and clay and dream on push push him. I just feel like how did they wait until the offseason because they couldn't afford to be patient here. There really wasn't a sense of urgency. I would like to see if there were different offers or different teams that kind of came to the table. I just don't think this is the kind of package that you pounce on when you have a great trade ship and again twenty-three-year-old all-star and no roe pressure to make a move now so but I it is newsday what you're saying. Though had Russell and curry not work together you think that Russell's trade value could have diminished. So I see what you're saying. I'm just not a big Fan. I think that's my problem here. Yeah and I think for Minnesota standpoint It's a very interesting gamble. Because of course they want him as a free agent right and it's always nice to be able to sign a young player like that. If you get the right opportunity comes along but they miss out. It's so let's remember that to make this deal happen. They basically had to ship out Jeff Teague for basically nothing it trade Covington to get some assets assets kinda like sweet things up and they have to wind up trading wiggins out. It's actually make this deal happen with golden state so I don't WANNA say Minnesota gutted their assets but they actually you. You know invest in quite a bit to get Russell. Now the upside to doing that is you're gonNA have a very exciting offensive oriented team where you've got your best players are both all three point shooters with Karl Anthony towns and Diangelo Russel and they should fit together. Great in pick and roll it could pop situations right so for a fan base. That's been through a lot here. Typical era the Jimmy Butler you know You know being upset a few years ago in the long losing streak this year. I think there are some genuine hope and optimism with that pairing between those two guys. But I think my concern is that they really have stripped out a lot of their other proven talent around them and I think that both those guys are just minus defenders and that part it makes me nervous right. Because you know if you're trying to picture these guys is like this inside outside duo right well you want at least one of them to be a plus defender. And I don't think that's it's ever GonNa Happen for either one of those guys and so now it creates some roster challenges where you have to go out and target some other perimeter defenders guys who can help cover up for Russell in towns so that you can at at least be you know average on the defensive end. If you WANNA be a winning team so I guess long story short I think they invested an awful lot of assets. Just make this Russell thing happened and I'm not totally extolled. That he's the right guy to pair with towns but big picture. They did the most important thing which is keep Karl Anthony towns happy. He's their franchise guy he's been disgruntled. You you know for for months now because of all this losing and so I think they do get a short term went out of that.

Kevin Durant reveals when he knew he'd leave Warriors after last year
"Lot of these trades. Aides are confusing and Diangelo Russel. This is his fourth team now. and He's twenty three he's eight dynamite all star and so he kinda got thrown into the mix. Because if you're the if you're the the the warriors and you could get him in the process of losing durant you do that a hundred times out of one hundred. It's just the question. Is that if I told you at the time right that when they were losing him you know when they were losing durant and gaining him that it would turn into Andrew Wiggins and a top three protected first round pick. I think we would have said at the point in time. Okay I got it because you're already seeing the first blush results on NBA NBA twitter. That he's kind of playing the role of Harrison Barnes and the first championship run remember Harrison Barnes was the crucial member of that was and that wiggins is going to play that role. Livingston's not there anymore right so so he would be that guy. And if you're Steve Kerr you're like I can. Let's get to this guy if I'm coaching up. Three million green and his personality Wiggins of former number one overall here comes wiggins. I'm thinking he's thinking that and is now just think about it. Think about it next year. Are they open up in that beautiful jewel up in San Francisco. It's all filled up right and Curry Klay. Draymond Andrew Wiggins and number five stroll on the floor and number five could be the first overall selection in the draft left or the fourth overall selection in the draft. They could have all those guys showing up there next year and have the first and fourth overall picks in the draft tiredly possible

I've never understood this eye for an I think in baseball somebody's GonNa get hit in the head so stupid and I I mean now. You're throwing one hundred hundred mile an hour sphere at somebody's head and then you know mason you start you well. It's it's old school baseball. No it's not it's assault. That's exactly how I described it earlier today yeah. I just think that there's better ways of doing things. It's also like you know there. You can bud somebody without hitting them sure throw one up in it and high. Just give them a little Chin music and that's all you need I see you we didn't like it. That's it we don't need to you. Don't need to escalate. Oh by the way George we spent a all the time today talking about <hes> Chris Paul if he'll play any games in Oklahoma City and Ross young both saying looks like he might I was listening to a Bill Simmons Zach Lowe podcast and I thought the Simmons had a really good idea Minnesota for Chris Paul Andrew Wiggins has never really had anybody who makes them better either as Karl. Anthony towns Wiggins one foot out the door. How do you get him Jeff? Teague is an expiring okay. I'd look it up but and Awhile Dang is still in their books right and he's coming off so you could yeah but he's not a lot of money he just because he was stretched by Reich but I'm seeing you. Could you could piece together some of the guys at the the end Minnesota bench what this would be about would be the wolves taking Chris Paul's contract which is a huge ass. I would imagine that okay see would after attach picks to it. I would guess that probably won't happen. Says Gerson Rosa's was <hes> Darrow Mores Guy I like my ass is that's probably not gonNa go and happen. WHO's tougher guy to Trade Andrew Wiggins Chris Paul John Wall oh I would say Chris Paul and then I would rank them? Chris Paul John Wall Andrew Wiggins injury with Wall Wall. We're healthy. It would be wiggins before him and some but but there's somebody out there that there's always somebody that thinks oh I can turn Andrew wiggins around the N._F._l.. We have that with former first round quarterbacks right okay Chris. Paul has the most money in the worst contract of the three. I think well maybe John Wall money but John Wall. You may eventually get to write off. If you never comes back and Chris Paul can still play a little. He can help a team in the rate-setting like of their three guys..

"And Andrew Wiggins Karl Anthony towns in either Saroj Gibson that lineups only played thirteen games all year, and that was all before Ryan took over. So he's battled nothing. But injuries and had to throw these makeshift lineups out there that have included guys that weren't even a not even a thought of being on. This roster Reynolds wasn't even a thought on this team up until a month ago. And he's getting he's getting rotation minutes and Cato Bates Diop hadn't played at all. He's now a part of the rotation. So I. I think he's got a lot to deal with. And I think he's done very well in the situation has been thrown into. I think he's doing a good job with an incomplete roster to be honest with you. And and I know it's it's the bias in me, you know, coming out because I've known Ryan since he was a little kid, you know, as a as a basketball community relations intern and doing camps and being around the gym and and being around the Babcock's in the Sanders clan, and all that stuff whatever and putting up shots, and then playing a little one on one Ryan I want the kid to to be able to have the opportunity to coach his team because I feel like he's earned that that opportunity. But we'll see how things play out. I I think that he's earned it. I I hope that he gets the job, and yeah, he I think he's done a good job. I'm with you Alan, he's he's done a really good job with the fact that this team it's an incomplete team right now. Yeah. Yeah. And I think the other thing to balance point about mixing and matching lineups and finding mismatches and trying to exploit those. I think that's where you really see and flip his dad obviously had some of that too from his days in the CBA where you might have a guy for two games. And then you don't have to hold differ roster in there. And so there's just kind of a sense a good field to be able to say. All right. This combination might work. We'll give it a couple of minutes. We'll see how it goes gambling. But just as far as Ryan getting the job. I think certainly, you know, he's done a great job. So far, the one thing that is what what do you do with the front office? You know, there's there's questions surrounding that moving forward. And so I think that will be interesting to see does does one follow the other does one come in front of the other. What is this Aleutian there? The other thing with Ryan to that. He's done a great job of is playing through Karl Anthony towns, you have an absolute unicorn in in Karl Anthony towns he is a dynamic player. He's a rare breed. He's a top one percent. And you're starting to see. What he can do when when you play through him. And we saw it with the shot. Wasn't there tonight? The team rallied when he was down. But he came back stayed in the game. There was a play late, right? Fourth quarter where he thought he got fouled on one end. What did he do? He sprinted back down the floor, and he got a crucial block. I think it was on a grill or Draymond green layup I thought that was a tremendous play by cat. So I think Ryan shifting things through Karl Anthony towns now, he might not have had much of a choice with so few guys available but playing through him and and making him, you're centerpiece. I think bodes really well for the future gotta get caught up on a break. But we'll take your phone calls here at six five one nine eight nine nine two two six it's wolves howling with John folk, Alan Horton and me Henry lake right here on NewsTalk eight three zero w c c o Henry.

"They have good players if he doesn't want to try and compete just bench him in a Kobe's letter defender, then or Andrew Wiggins. I mean, I wouldn't stunned me he was more effective than Wiggins in terms of plus minus and stuff. I just saying he's he's one hundred fifty million dollar man who looked into the eyes of Glenn Taylor. Who was like Wiggins? I need you to improve see this whole look into the eyes businessman, Dan, you mentioned his scoring three point shooting. He takes five shots a game. It's thirty five percent charge. Like, that's fine. It's okay. For for two three. Like, he is the promises thing. Just doesn't offend thing is yes to compete on defense. And I think that comes to playing time like if you don't try and defense, you're not gonna play that's purely an effort thing is competing on defense. I don't know. I'm not giving up on Wiggins. But it's not good injure lands. Who were the team is winning anyway? So it's like, it's okay. Fine. I mean, they won by thirty nine points with him having like one of the worst games. They just him being so big and fast and shooting decently. Like, there's if you nor the contrast think sometimes these players like the money's the money. It's not even argument spent his guaranteed contracts. So whatever at this point, what does this fit a team Wiggins that bulls game over twelve one rebound one assistant twenty nine minutes. And they still wellness week. They're still on this one. It's just it's this appointing that some like Kogas stuck behind hundred fifty million dollars zero Andrew Wiggins sucks. He's minutes. Man Oko he's gonna find he's a tips player to he's a rookie. But don't get tips likes him. Well, Andrew Wiggins is struggling so far this season for the timber wolves to move on from one Canadian prospect that was highly ranked out of high school to another RJ Barrett from Duke who you wrote about this week on the rigor dot com. Charkes RJ as somebody who coming into the season. Like Wiggins at Kansas had I expect stations to be clear number one pick a two way player of versatile. Player, but he's disappointed. So far early on hasn't been chargers. Yeah. I mean, I think with him at least he he does compete hard. I'm he'll compete. Wiggins isn't always do that to me with arcades. Like he just hasn't realized that he's not the best player on his team. And it's obvious to everyone else maybe on him and coach K almost don't realize it. Instead of me. It's interesting to see him will the except being zion's number two. Right. Because like in the NBA might be the best part is team either. You can't go to Atlanta's Bod trae young sands. Right. "He's pointing to very particular things that he's talking about stuff like attention to detail. Like if we look at this play that they had at the end of the first half against the Cowboys and the Cowboys marched down to fill in the Cowboys. They're trying to hurry up and a lineup at. Into that possession urging a and you've got a guys on the eagles that are walking back there. Those are the things that make you point to the head coach because biological the guy like what is that? If you've got the proper respect for your head coach, you know that sort of thing would not be tolerated. Like people will look at something like that. And it'd be like they wouldn't have done that Bill Belichick was the coach and think about how many times you've seen the patriots walk up and down the field. So yes, I agree with you that they're probably ascribing lot of people describing a lot of things and put it on the coach. Yes. But for the kinds of things he's talking about that is what you look at the coach. No. And that's fair. The example of urgency enough hurt and win that flags is fair. But there's also the turnover eagles Royal Royal route. route Bravo. Bravo had bad turnover margins. We typically look at the coach last, quote, I feel like I learned I feel like a lot of guys wanted him to state. I learned a lot from him. And I was still learning. Said Andrew Wiggins about Jimmy Butler. Joel the beat reportedly called Wiggins to ask what Butler was leg as a teammate and got glowing reviews. Wiggins also said he definitely wanted Butler to stay. So does this apprise you not necessarily because apparently when Jimmy head crazy practice Andrew Wiggins daft him up. We have the soon then a lot of Jimmy's I r- is pointed toward Andrew Wiggins. And he did say the Andrew Wiggins is the most talented guy on the team and talked about how you could jump at his hang and everything else. But I take what we're saying. We're we're learning here. Basically Jimmy really didn't like Karl Anthony towns, very particular to felt about Karl Anthony towns, if for whatever reason, you got all the sympathy in the world for Carl towns, and for Andrew Wiggins Wiggins is not good at basketball in the way, that Karl Anthony towns is good at basketball. But Andrew Wiggins also isn't deaf and religion solve the news cycle. Saw. "And yeah, I mean, this is validating for him, but also like you said, it is a kind of a disrespectful thing for the teammates, but my that's my next question you were there. Obviously, we saw what happened on the court in the locker room. What's the dynamic? Because I can only imagine it's extremely awkward with, you know, guys talking to him, you know, was he kind of doing his own thing? Did he act like nothing was wrong at all? What was it like behind the scenes in the locker room who I will. I have to say, you know, I, I don't cover the wolves every day, so I'm not one hundred percent sure mayor with their with their procedures, but within seconds of the locker room opening after the game. You know, it is Alex, you know, it was a back to back which I'll talk about the second. So the players did a place to go. But Andrew Wiggins was out was draped with shower dressed in out of there within about nine minutes after the game, and he had a good game at twenty two. Points and a couple of good plays Jeff. Teague almost ran over me when I went into the locker room after the game because he was getting out of there now, like I said, for all, I know Jeff Teague is the fastest. I mean, I don't know this to be true in the past, but for all I know, Jeff, he had somewhere you needed to be. You know, I'm not. He didn't speak to me because he was. He was Blake blazing out of the locker room, but some guys in there were like, I've never seen Andrew Wiggins. Got outta here so fast. Like I said, maybe Andrew Wiggins had somebody in the stands he wanted to see. I mean, I can't say for sure, but for a team that just had a nice win. There were guys trying to get the hell out of there. And so Jimmy was the last guy locker room and you know, on the on the board. It said, you know, we, Ted forty five flight to Dallas, had back to back. This is very commonplace. You know, for teams that are flying that night, they say, hey, this is what we're flying meet at the at the plane. And you know, they always put a suggested time, but it it, you know, they always leave a little bit later, but Jimmy was like he, he was not showing any interest in moving at all. Like he was sitting. He was icing. He was icing his knees and everything, but he was on his phone just laughing in texting with people. I'm sure people is friends were texting him and and you know what a game and he was just enjoying, and he was just laughing there. And I'm like, you know, just to be like ten o'clock five after ten after ten. On my boy, he's really not trying to catch this flight on time. You know, because it's a twenty minute drive..
Paul George of Oklahoma City Thunder sides with Jimmy Butler
"Reports have. Surfaced, George Sodano from ESPN is the main source of this. He says that the heat and the timber wolves had a deal done for Jimmy Butler. The two teams were exchanging medicals, which is the universal sports. Signed of a trade is done is. Now, let's make sure that this guy doesn't have a need. That's about to explode. They were exchanging the medicals and Tom tibidow called Pat Riley and asked for an additional piece to throw in at the last minute in the deal, Pat Riley called him in for and hung up. The phone on him. But as you've read reports all week for major awards and asking others. The two teams will certainly the heat hope to reengage with the timber wolves here before too long. My question is. How long till the nuggets get in there. How long till the nuggets decide you know, what let's throw our hat into the ring we have been through this as an organization before at some point this situation becomes untenable with a superstar that wants out the nuggets dealt with that with Carmelo Anthony. So. Could we potentially take advantage because my my guess is? That the nuggets have. You know, thrown at taxed maybe sent a Facebook message to the timber wolves. My guess is they haven't pushed very hard. Nothing more than just overtures and normal GM GM speak. Because one if you believe reports the nuggets label, Gary Harris is untouchable along with Nicole Yokich Jamal Murray, which I think is a nice thought, but. Let's be fair. At what those three guys are one of those guys does not have as high as ceiling as the other two, right? Like, I love Gary Harris. And I love what he's become but to label. Gary Harris untouchable is a little bit. Surprising. So there's that. But then there's also the idea of why in the world would the timber wolves wanted trae Jimmy Butler to the team that they just barely beat out for the postseason last year. And while that's still a valid question. If I were on, Minnesota's sports talk radio. I would be saying do not trade Jimmy Butler two the nuggets if you got to get rid of them get rid to the Eastern Conference. But again, how long? Can put up with questions like that. How long can Scott late in deal with being yelled at at practice by Jimmy Butler? How long can Karl Anthony towns Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler awkwardly tiptoe around each other in the timber wolves locker room? I would say

"We've been talking about them a lot already. Lee. Question number four hundred nine most overrated player, Andrew Wiggins. Skeets biggest comebacks number nine, Andrew Wiggins tests, which is worst has fallen. Fallen Wiggins. I'm definitely into what is he going to become camp. Sure. I'm doubtful. I'm doubtful more. Rudy, gay? Is he Jeff? Green is the so I had that Scottie Pippen think we've decided on that that as a question for you too, because you're saying the biggest comeback think he's had the surge and then the full to come back. He he hasn't. He's numbers at not changed basically since his rookie season, people do not think people you've just for the first twenty minutes of this podcast. We're basically questioning everything about him. Yeah, but his numbers Phil. He's not saying numbers. I'm saying how you think about him is right. Comeback angle. Okay. So I'm not giving up my Wiggins quite yet from a different angle. Yes. I'm not saying he's numbers did go down because Jimmy Butler twenty three point. Thanks. I had an impact on about, like if you look at his rookie season to last season and then look at all. Those other is mentioned on the show points rebounds, it's just flatlined. That's incredibly rare for a planet. Excuse me to. Excuse me because I just bumped my my nothing else. You gave it a wacko. That's that's very difficult to not improve at all in one of those categories for Playa who plays, I think he played the most minutes in the league. You wanna make another bet..

"I'm Andrea misogynist, male or female, a lot more guys are doing yearly that I have to go into a cave and study fantasy sports sweetheart. And then you smell like six hours drinking a beer, and like, you know, just fallen in like a rabbit hole like Google in the multi verse or something like I didn't. But this year. I did that that struck me as really interesting is they broke down over the last five years. The likelihood when you're trying to choose between players the likelihood that if you choose the player that is on the team that is favored in Vegas versus not. There's a twenty they have a twenty percent uptick in terms of performance, and basically, and I'm explaining very badly because I'm not very smart, and I'm not gonna math that's bad combine this topic. But, but basically, there's a strong correlation between being a favourite and playing on a favorite and having fantasy football success and to that point talk about fan duel. If you did you're getting ready. The Vikings are sixteen and a half. Playing favorites in the NFL sixteen and a half point favorites. So Kirk cousins that Viking defense feeling digs whatever you got get it out there. It's going to go very very well. I was talking earlier about some of the guests. We're going to have on CBS sports HQ's writer's block next week. Just got an Email the confirmation. So here's me shamelessly to be honest zero shh. No shame. Maybe maybe a little bit of shame plugging writer's block, five o'clock eastern. We will have we'll play these interviews for here on the radio as well. We're gonna have cream Abdul Jabbar, rob gronkowski Chakib Griffin. Both the Kelsey brothers. Jason and Travis Kelsey just to name a few of the guests that will be on the program. So I hope that you'll tune in. And check it out. Of course, we'll we'll get you here. The interviews here on the radio eight five five two one two four CBS. We talk about this Browns game adamant Lansing, Michigan. Thanks for your patience, buddy. You're on CBS sports radio. Hey, what's going on? Right. I've called a few times. Love the show. Thank you. You're allowed your leprechaun IRA. Was your. I'm glad. It was good about the same time. I mean, let me trying to take a shot. I'm not going to be like your being here, your producer. She's gonna take a shot. Our mighty always time playing for you. Vontobel Bill button who go ding, dang, dang atom. I like it. And I liked you took a shot at both Tom and do you're right have more courage. Life is short. All right now. Jack. I'm in. I think the jets are gonna take the Browns. I don't think they're going to get it done. And I think it's going to be twenty four to twenty. I'm not I'm not a jets fan. I'm not a Browns fan. I'm actually alliance fan about how he came out late against the lions and again Stafford. He impressed me a lot. I mean, he's going to do that with the Brown. I gotta tell you. And I appreciate the call. And by the way, great effort, great effort on the on the pirate your Detroit team needs to hope. So it would certainly boat a little bit better for Matt Patricia and his squad his group, if it turns out the jets are a lot better than we think they are. And there's no way to spin. Well, what's the score that game guys forty seven to to me? It was like forty seven to who cares. But like thirteen seventeen forty eight seventeen was almost a fifty burger. It's not not that it matters. But it's not like it was forty eight forty five it's hard to put a positive spin on that game. But you're right. You better for you. The jets are a good team that cross you than a bad team. Eight five five two one two four CBS at the phone or my guy. Kevin Todd gonna join me five or six minutes whenever he calls it whenever he able to to get with us and give us some of these busy guy. He's got Kanda. It's interesting. These guys do lines, right? Like Todd firm into great guy and Kevin Todd. They're like reporters in that. They are out there collecting sources and getting information, but when I was a newspaper reporter, and when I was a columnist. I would call sources of what what do you think I should write? What's the real? Who's the big guy Wiggins or bother these guys are like is he injured is a depressed at his girlfriend leave him. Did he find out? She cheat on them. Do you think he's gonna under? I mean, like, it's amazing. It's almost like I've got several colleagues and friends and family members who have gone on to work for intelligence agencies or the FBI like some of the and so I've been a part of that process was like a FBI background check. Where you get this weird kind of phone call. That's what bookmakers I Kevin tod do like they are putting together these dossiers of information. And Kevin will I don't think he'll give you all the info. But he'll tell you. What do they adds up to in just a few minutes here speaking, by the way, oh my gosh. Speaking of drama. Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler. I don't I don't know the guy the bad guy is Minnesota and the latest sort of turn of the screw on. This thing is that as Jimmy Butler has made it known to Tom. He wants outfitted reportedly has responded with he would sooner quit his job then trade away Butler and rebuilt. I said this last year on the air and a bunch of you scoffed at me, but I'm going to say it again, Minnesota should have traded Karl Anthony towns for Kawhi Leonard. What should have happened because cats amazingly talented, and he's not going to play defense, and he doesn't get along with this coach or Jimmy Butler. And you you go you get a quiet Leonard who will play D guess what's going to happen automatically that T wolves team with Butler inquire going to be a star defensive team. But it doesn't it didn't have to be just Colli go you're gonna you can't move Wiggins for whatever he might become. You don't want to move Butler because he's the sole of your team. If you have any soul, the move to may was any towels, and I set it on the air. And I understand people were a little like, you're lost your your freaking mind writer. Well, let's fast forward to year. Butler wants out Theodose talking about quitting, right? Chrome ethnic towns is probably somewhere like I won this battle. And Andrew Wiggins is I think taking shots and everybody including Jimmy Butler, wings brothers got. It's just it's ugly. And now Steven Jackson whose amazing by the way is getting in on the act Stephen Jackson, former NBA player decided to drop this on Andrew Wiggins brothers shots at Jimmy Butler, say this out of conversation should've win with a Andrew Wiggins and his brother when Andrew found out the bud Sunday tweet about Louis and right? I'm Andrew Wiggins save big, bro. I don't think you should have sent this tweet out. Why you say? Jimmy Butler, man, he played he played all you pay. And I ain't got no now you wanna get on social media and talk about Jimmy. We lose them. I team ain't got no Hoi. Now, if you're gonna take me to the wizards, and he'll be fine. And you'll be road to give me a heart. Cool. You can talk about zoom. Y'all you won't 'cause you know, how you got no heart. So you're going to take back. Tell me finding you ought to be taking to the wisdom, man. 'cause I ain't got no one. Oh, that's why leaving traded me. You ain't got no heart and your brother, you know, play basketball. Deborah. But like you say. He dropped a yellow brick row. Now, I have to remember ten man didn't have a brain. And the lion. Didn't have a heart is that that was going on there and Dorothy head murder shoes on that. We all vote were pretty beautiful and sparkling landed on a witch. By the way, Stephen Jackson, a lot of things he's rarely wrong. We all know that guy. He's not wrong, Walter. You're just. Like, that's exactly what's going on where against has no heart. And I shouldn't. I gotta be careful disparaging here. Karl Anthony towns because it may not be true. And I haven't like reported out the way I did say when I heard that Chris Paul was a bad guy as a teammate as a human being a father just as a teammate he subtracted from all join the key like a black hole of hope enjoying chemistry, and I actually reported that had forty sources whatever now me and the clippers really really got along. Great and Chris bar, close close friends. So but with with any towns, I've had enough people suggest that all the shine and all the charm on the outside isn't legitimate. That may be right. I don't know. Where there's smoke. There's fire. I've had the opportunity to interview cat a couple times, including on the CBS sports HQ show and other than dodging a few questions he's in mechanized guy. But there are some problems there, and there's a real chance that the heart and the given a dam and the things that it takes to be good in the NBA to be great are missing. And they ain't missing in Jimmy Butler. All right. So I promise you that. We would we would talk some some gambling get with my guy my guru, the man who I turn to for the information when I'm trying to really put some real money up. He's kevin. "He's like breakout candidate number one, pick and sort of, you know, all the arguments you like to make about Devon Booker people were making in favor of Andrew Wiggins, right this year. It was like, what do you mean is the top one hundred player and. And if you read the blurb, I mean, I basically said he's got the empty stats in the league. I called him a ten man because he has no heart like you could see that I was writing it up through gritted teeth, but I also think we in his defense and we try to do this. We try to make the case for guys in the case against guys. The case for him is he's playing the most minutes of anyone league for four straight years. So it's bound to be difficult out to that up. Has it missed a game? Very durable. He is best skill is scoring but always on team where he can be no more than the third option. So that's not really a great fit. He would probably look better in a vacuum on teams that didn't have as many craters because he would have more touches. He would score more and that's pretty much the best case you can you talk about essential crisis like that's Jimmy Butler showing up and suddenly taking seventy five percent of Andrew Wiggins is responsibility when you're stepdad's military guy, you know, and all of a sudden new stepdad, got you up for running lines. Tough. It's tough because we doesn't do a lot of the. Little things that you would want a third star to be able to do. So he is in a tough spot and that was my take because we got a lot of pushback in the emails from people who were just kind of appalled by Wiggins is spot on this list. And I think at this point he might be a little bit underrated among like the NBA internet set because he, he's not what you would want from a number one pick, but he's also close to Harrison Barnes zone. And I think he might even be a little low. But I have another question because another thing that we've heard a lot about in the emails and on Twitter is Dwight at sixty nine. Okay. Was that a conscious choice that you guys made in a in a marketing effort or what? Look, how hotels have the ability to skip floors? They don't have a thirteenth floor. They go from twelve to fourteen because it's unlucky. We don't have the ability to just skip sixty nine answer. You can't just have a top one.
