Get it today, CBS Sports app CBS sports radio dot com. It is the first full Saturday of college football. And most of the coverage of the Games I've seen today have hit on the same theme, which is it's a celebration of getting Everything back at once with fans in stadiums and we're seeing it play across the college football landscape. Today, where in places like Madison, Wisconsin. In Norman, Oklahoma. There's close to 100,000 fans watching these games, which is really not having that in all the sports missing that last year in college football. Took away from the fabric and the very, um essence of the games and we had everything helter skelter last year where the SEC started on time, but the big 10 didn't in the Pac. 12 barely played. And so it really finally feels like college football and really, football is back for us here. "Which made it a eight point game. Illinois 30, Nebraska 22. But then missed the extra point. So Illinois maintains an eight point lead. And now, uh, they are in the victory for mate. They earned the victory formation. Nebraska is out of time outs. There's only a minute left. And Bret Bielema is going to win his first game as Illinois head coach and Scott Frost is going to start his fourth year. Oh, and one, having lost as a touchdown favorite on the road against a team that was picked to finish dead last in the Big 10 West. Because of a coaching change and the fact that Illinois has been a cellar dweller in the Big 10 for a long time now. So the Nebraska revival that was promised when Frost was hired ain't happening. Andrew Philip Pony, The Pony Express, CBS Sports Radio. Jordan Love today for the Packers. Made a couple of throws that You know, reinforced why he was a first round pick. But the day really was Him making poor decisions in the red zone, especially An interception that was picked off in the end zone where he had no business, throwing the ball where he did. No points produced. Packers got shut out and If everything goes right with Aaron Rodgers again this year if he stays healthy This is the last time the Packers We'll see Jordan love playing a game. Until maybe week. 18 if they've clinched something. Or next year. When Rogers is on somebody else's roster because short of the Packers winning the Super Bowl I don't see any way. Aaron Rodgers is back in Green Bay next year. 855 to 1 to 4 to 24 to 27. But you've got opinions on that. Here's Stacy in Dallas on CBS Sports Radio. Hi, Stacey. Hi, Andrew. How are you? I'm well, Thank you. Hey, Uh, so I just wanted to comment that now I do not profess to know all of the stats. Everything going on with Green Bay when they drafted Jordan Love personally, I don't have a problem within warning. An insurance policy. I heard you talking to a previous caller about you know how healthy and You know, etcetera Aaron Rodgers is I just my thoughts and my observation about him is he is just a very mature real person. And if you don't want, I guess if there's any player out there, you don't want to really be disadvantaged. It. Hitting everything on what they may do emotionally. He and someone like Kyrie Irvin or the two I would be suspect of. So were they saying Andrew Jordan Love Was better than Erin. I doubted or that he was coming in right away. I mean, once upon a time quarterbacks kind of chilled on the bench, probably 34 years, you know, learning behind. Think Steve Young waited. What 55 to 6 behind Montana? Well, right, but he had already failed somewhere. I mean, he had already went somewhere in Tampa and then the USFL and was taken to secure, circuitous route. To be a quarterback Bill Walsh liked him, but it wasn't set in stone that he was going to be. You know, the 40 Niners franchise quarterback and was absolutely going to unseat Montana. I'm not denying the fact that it probably made for an uncomfortable arrangement. Between the two guys. Uh, if you look at it from Rogers perspective, he had had a great year. They had made the NFC championship game and they drafted someone who a was going to take his job in B wasn't going to help them. Be a better team. Was there an understanding, though, that he was coming in right away. I mean, if you have a player that was willing to sit 34 years and maybe more behind Aaron, or maybe never play. I just I guess I'd never know you. Don't you don't take a quarterback in the first round to be a backup. If you if you think a quarterback is worthy of being a top 25 pick the long range forecast isn't he's going to be a really good backup quarterback for Aaron Rodgers. You don't do that. You don't trade up to take somebody. To be a number two for four or five years. That's not how it works, and Rogers knows that. That's why he was so ticked off by it. Right, well, and I I do tend to agree to that. I think you know, a lot of the professional athletes all have a healthy ego, and they need one to have confidence in what they're doing. I think his his bat probably bigger. Um, the level of what personal offense he took to it was his Um, something else You said earlier that you know he's a deep finger. Maybe he's not like Tom Brady, who just went along with the program for 20 years and and whatever. And you know, Green Bay knew that when he got him now, let me tell you, I'm not even a Tom Brady's fan. Anyone that knows Tom Brady will say. Down to his diet to giving up my whole right? Yeah. I mean, he thinks critically about that. But I'm saying he wasn't like questioning Bill Belichick's coaching and management of the team. And why would he? If you look at all the winning that was done in New England. He like understood his role that he was a player and not someone who worked in the front office. And Rogers wants a bigger say. I think part of it is because they haven't won a Super Bowl in so long or been to one You know, the timing of the of the love thing was just so atrocious. There was no warning. And I think the worst part of it all is It's not even going to pay off. You know, if you in and in Stacey used the word mercurial You know that Aaron Rodgers is sensitive guy. He's probably gonna be pissed off whether you warn them that you're going to pick love or not that either way, he's not going to be happy. He's going to be steaming over it..

"C. Why? Sirius, XM Channel 206 and AM and FM affiliates throughout North America. Including up in Canada. Hockey is king. And I'm a big NHL guy. Pony Express, CBS Sports Radio. My name's Andrew Philip Pony. Glad to be with you today. Looking up at the TV screen in front of me. I've got MLB network on their previewing Sunday's draft. Major league baseball draft something we don't get into here much. Because these high school players in college baseball players Our unknowns, names that a lot of you have never even heard of. Plus these guys. I like the NFL. Trevor Lawrence is going to come right in and start Trevor Lawrence is going to be from day one. The face of the Jaguars franchise in baseball, even a college guy. You're waiting years got to go play double a triple A all that stuff. I don't hear people complain. Like they do. A lot of, uh, a lot of College football fans complain That the athletes shouldn't get paid. Because the price of The price of, uh, the scholarship is worth it. He'll get a free education all that stuff. And then they say. You know, you give a kid too much money when they're too young. They make a lot of bad decisions. You don't want to give a teenager that money. His endorsement deals, this name, image and likeness stuff. There's going to be Pandora's box that's going to get opened up by this. I don't hear people say that about baseball players who get drafted 17 18 years old. And get Multi million dollar signing bonuses right off the bat. The top pick in the draft tomorrow is probably going to be a kid who's a high school shortstop in California 17 years old. If he gets picked with the number one Selection. He's.

"CBS Sports radio. Here's Andrew Philip Pony. You know, the only times that we've really had upsets. As far as seeds go. In the NBA playoffs. Deep into the playoffs. I know Or when great teams Kind of half ass the regular season. The Houston Rockets won an NBA championship as a six seed. They won. They won it the year before they beat the Knicks. The next year, they had a lousy regular season. But they were the defending champs. Michael Jordan had come back late in the year for the Bulls, so he wasn't himself yet. That's when he wore 45 then went back to 23. The Magic series. They lost. Orlando went to the finals. Houston beat him as a six seed. We saw. I think the cabs is a four seed. Go to The NBA finals with LeBron But they were stacked. Kyrie, Irving, Kevin Love They were stacked team. Um, they were a team that had gone to the finals before. So that happens. But very rarely do we see Teams that had not mediocre regular seasons, But we're Not predicted to do much. Like there aren't many Atlanta Hawks stories in NBA history. Let me put it that way. That's what I'm trying to say here. Where you get some postseason darling that gets hot. That almost never happens in the N B. A. That is a rarity. Now, a lot was expected of the Bucks and the Clippers before the season started. The sons were looked at like they were just a team that would make the playoffs and be one and done and that's what they were predicted to do when they got matched up against the Lakers, even though Phoenix was the two and the Lakers were the seven But if you go by what the odds makers thought going into the series, I'm sure we've had more upsets in these playoffs than ever before. I mean, look at the last round, the Sixers were picked to beat the Hawks wrong. The That's where picked to beat the bucks wrong. The Jazz were picked to beat the Clippers wrong. That was actually almost a 50 50 split. The Sun's did beat the but did beat the Nuggets. But Basically, the favorites went to and to Or maybe even one and three. So that's that's a total departure from the way the NBA playoffs usually go. I think the NBA for a long time has thought the best teams in the finals is what's best for the league. But I think it just made the league redundant, Boring. Monotonous and now I think that this change up his breathe fresh life. And fresh blood into the NBA. And I like this NBA product way better than I like the NBA product for years when you don't know who's going to win in the playoffs. And I want to know if you agree with that. Maybe you're still anti NBA. Maybe you found these playoffs to be boring. You tell me 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 Here's Doug in Sacramento on CBS Sports Radio High Dog. Yeah. Hey, Andrew. Great to talk to you Love your chauffeur. Thank you, caller. I've listened to you forever. And the boy the stable of, uh, CBS, Uh, sports talk announcers. Just amazing. And your show is one of the few Say yes. Totally agree with your cake and great take. I had kind of thought. You know about this earlier, but I hadn't formulated the take like you just did. I mean, I grew up in L. A I'm a huge NFL and, uh, Major league baseball guy now, but I mean, I grew up with the Lakers back in the sixties, and I mean back in the I mean, you go back to the The sixties of I was really young for that. But you know, Boston and LA every year, Boston and LA every year in the in the eighties and the Finals, Boston and part of me. Lakers and the Sixers in the eighties. And we have such a variety now, especially with the Hawks, you know, coming on strong the Clippers, obviously in the final four It looks like speaking of the Lakers looks like LeBron. You know, this might have been as uh, you know, Spawn song as far as getting a tough, I think. Look, the NFL Thank you. So much dug for the kind words to the NFL has so much has so much going for it. It's only once a week. It's only 17 regular season games. Um, it's not Like every game means so much. It's the best sport Tibet on There's violence involved. It's America's favorite sport. But I think one of its big selling points is that You know the whole any given Sunday motif. The whole idea that because the playoffs are one and done And there are so few games. That you can have teams come out of nowhere. And do well. You know they're they're examples. Up and down football. Teams that go worst to first and get to the Super Bowl. So that's what separates. That's another separator from the NFL. And let's say the NBA or the NBA for a long time. You got its best of seven for a reason. Flukes can happen in one night, but surprises rarely play out over seven games. We've had more of that than ever before. This is not supposed to be an upset laden league and it has been, and I think that's actually what's better for the sport. The more teams that believe they can win the championship. The more fan bases that believe we're not. We're just not going into the playoffs, we actually have a chance to win it. More wide open. It is, I think, the better it is for the sport. And maybe that will also Maybe that will also prevent or detract teams. From having players jump around as much and creating these super teams. If random teams get to the NBA Finals out of nowhere. Last year was the heat. I thought that was a one off because it was the bubble. Maybe not. The Hawks can do it. The son's No. One No one picked the sons. Early in the year to get this far. And their two wins away and they're probably going to win the series without Kuai because he doesn't look like he's going to play tonight and you probably won't play again this series. Here is Leroy in Atlanta on CBS Sports Radio, Highly.

"Stat from Mr Andrew Philip Pony text it to me. So Pittsburgh working. Oh, you know what? I'll tell him. You asked. It's the right question. I would never text anybody during a show. I mean, I'm so focused. Oh, yeah. No, Andrew says. So it's Pittsburgh at Buffalo Week one. And the early line was Bill's minus 6.5. That's a good number. It's one of the biggest lines of the week, actually. So A lot of confidence in them and less on the Steelers in the Steelers. He said. Remember the game where the Steelers beat the Colts in the playoffs? Drone bet us And the Colts might have been undefeated for most of that season, and they blew it. Pittsburgh went in there and one of them. Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl that year. 2005, okay? So Don't directly recall that there's a fumble play. You remember that I was just going to say is there a fumble play and Steelers fumbled on the one? Roberts and Roethlisberger tackles the cold sky, right? Just barely trips him up. Or else he scores, right? Right, So it's a pretty big upset. I don't know that the line exactly. But it was at least 6.5 because, according to Andrew, That's the last game. Roethlisberger has one in the league. When they were a 6.5 point underdog or greater. Come on, right. That's almost a whole career. That is a Yeah, he's a rookie, you know, for all right? Join. It's a good A good question to ask is how often have right in 6.5 points. Well, because Ben Roethlisberger's their quarterback, because I was gonna say, just as Tom Brady ever done that, he also maybe you has never been a six point underdog. Tom Brady. Mm. I can imagine Rothenberg has been a six point underdogs very often. Maybe against operating. So, yes. I would think there'd be a couple of those, but you're right. Still, it's 15 years. Yeah, it's a long time. Baltimore is good, like right there. Always good. You don't play the Chiefs. Like they don't how many games it is. Let's guess because Andrew will know I'll say it's is it five games is a 10. I would go low. I would go 567 or eight was where I was thinking show. Yeah, not even once. Not even once a year. Okay. I think it's got to be double digits. But maybe I'm wrong. I'll find out I'll ask him why he's texting me and then ask him to reply to my text. Of her with this follow up question. Well, I've worked too, right. Okay, There's a lot to do here. Paul Hamilton and back to the sabers. Next, keep people to hear for the schedule News throughout the day. We think we know it will really dig into it after our chat with Paul. But again we're here for any comments you might have on the Michael crisis may be on the sabers. However much one tries to prepare oneself Listen like this. It's it's still It's in a dreadful shock, and we're still trying to come to terms of that. But I have to say that extraordinary tributes and the memories that everybody has had been willing to share has been so fantastic on Just goes to show you You might have seen our father grandfather, father in law, but he meant so much to so many other people, and Jim Wright was Canada's high commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2006 to 2011. He met Prince Philip and the Queen on many occasions, and he's bean sharing his memories of the Duke of Edinburgh. He's a character hey, can be hey could be a bit cheeky. At times. He has a fun sense of humor and extremely hard worker for Her Majesty for the monarchy. For Britain for the Commonwealth. You stayed at Windsor Castle yourself. Didn't you? Tell us about that? "Express. Here's Andrew Philip Pony. One of the things I've been trying to figure out this year. I live in a state Pennsylvania, where it's legal to bet on sports. One of the crazy things. About college basketball this year is how Some of these leagues. Have set up their schedule where you go and play. Back to back games. Just so I think tough. For We're talking about. Teenage 1920 year old. People. To beat a team one night and then come back the very next day and do it again. And I am finding and there are people You know so easy to find the information you need now is that your fingertips? Umm But they're starting to track this. And it's crazy like you're there. There are games where For example, the Horizon League Which is made up of mostly Midwest schools like that's the old best old Lee Butler was in when they went toe. Back to back. Final fours are back to back championship games when they lost to Duke, and then they lost. Oh, Connecticut. So they're playing games on Friday and then Saturday. Team will win on Friday by 20 points and they'll come back the next day and lose by five. I think it's because College kids they win. We'll take care of business the very next day and they let down a little bit. They lose. So that's that's that's my sports betting advice for today. If you live in one of those places find those games. Where'd you get this? The schedules I can't find. I'd like to see stats. I'm sure I could find it on when teams come off long breaks because of covert. How do they play in that first game back? For example, I've got West Virginia. My wife sound the mater on right now, and they've been off for about two weeks there at Kansas State who absolutely stinks. And 10 minutes in there up 50, West Virginia's up 15 points. But you know, I came to stay thinking while West Virginia's got rust. They haven't played a game in two weeks. So just You always look for an edge. I'm always looking for out. For especially when I'm betting college basketball, and I couldn't name More than four guys on the court right now. Just probably not a good recipe for winning bets when you can barely name the guys out on the court. Eric the enemy. Why is this guy still an assistant coach? Do you agree with me that it's a terrible look for the NFL. What can really do about it? Who are the hires in the NFL coaching carousel this time around that make that decision look even worse. Do you agree with me that if the enemy went to Houston, he'd win. 855 to 1 to four. CBS 855 To 1 to 4 to 27 is the number here is Darren in Michigan on CBS Sports Radio. I don't Hey. Good afternoon. Sure. Hey, Andrew. Sorry about that. You're okay. I appreciate your show him out in the woods around with my dog. You're running. You're not. We're not even walking with him. You're in a full on spreading with the dog. What kind of dog do you have? Darrin? Although she is she's a mixed use a rescue dog. He's a shepherd. How have I think beagle about 10 now and she could still turn it up, huh? She could still let it loose and really well, Yeah, OK. Finally. I had to admit she's slow down this year, but The top mileage is she did 90 miles within a couple years ago. Wow. So She can move. She gets, you know 70% of the water Like I tell everybody, you know so But, you know, I've lived in Michigan most of my life. Thankfully, I'm not lying sand, but You know? When I heard Andrew that They were hiring Chris Spielman. Mm hmm. Very Sanders to help lead their search committee. I knew they screw it up. Because you know, you got to have people who actually know what success looks like if you want to be successful, and the Lions were never successful with those players. I mean, Chris Spielman to me is Matt Millen two point off, and that's what we're seeing from what they hired within Campbell. I'm sorry, but it was embarrassing to listen to his press conference about. I thought so too. I know it made me uncomfortable. Had one head coach in my life in person make the same kind of impression. On that coach was fired less than a week later for something that they had missed on the guy's resume. So I'm not saying that that's gonna happen with Dan Campbell. I don't mean to imply that I could just tell you in my life of watching football press conferences, it was number two. The one that made me feel like the guy was in over his head from first blush. Um, I'm with you to me. You brought in people to hire him for nostalgia's sake, because you think the fans are going to get excited. About names that they recognize guys that had not glory on the field but were Sanders is one of the best running backs of all time and spoke. It was a very likable gator, but they're not. That doesn't make them qualified. How do they know? How do they know in an interview process the difference between a good coach in a bad coach? How would they? How many? How many times have they gone through? Something like that. I mean, I would just because Barry Sanders was a great running back and thank you for listening. Darrin doesn't mean that he has any clue. And I don't identify someone that's right in 2020 or 2021 toe, leave the lions out of the abyss. Dan Campbell. Woz..

"No back to the Pony Express with Andrew Philip Pony. Tom Brady's not gonna Miss Antonio Brown against the Packers. In fact, Brady is a better passer rating with a be on the sideline. I think it's a It's just like Just like Odell Beckham Jr and Cleveland a little bit of addition by subtraction. Think when Antonio Brown's out there and I watched this happen with Big Ben. I'm in Pittsburgh. Baby's great thieves, the third best wide receiver I've ever seen. Hi Jerry Rice and Randy Moss. I didn't see Raymond Berry. Steve Largent before my time, I didn't see those guys. All war field. Wide receivers my lifetime. Is the third best. Brady, I think feels the pressure to get the ball to him. So you take that away. He's got God When it Mike Evans, the two tight ends, he'll be fine. Hackers have a very good defensive line, but so did Very good defensive front. So did Washington in Brady was fine against them. So did the Saints who harassed him. In the two prior matchups, but a ton of pressure on him Cam Jordan. Right. He played a very efficient game. You know you don't in today's NFL. You don't need to put up fantasy football numbers to have a good game, but I think a lot of people are stuck on that. You're obsessed with that. They need to be numb. They need to be numbers that when you're contests on Fanduel He's like that. Lot of Brady haters out there. I'm not one of them. I shoot it straight. I tell like it is with him, just like everybody else. Don't have an agenda. No ax to grind. And Brady's gonna prove people wrong again tomorrow and then we'll see what people are saying on Monday. Will probably come up with reasons to not give him credit. Oh, Aaron Rodgers blew the game. Oh, the Packers coach screwed up. Oh, Packer's defense wasn't very good in the first place. Always going to get killed by the Chiefs. You know, that's Lot of people are just that way with.

Hopefully, Andrew Phillip phone. His wife had a baby on everything went well. Can't say that we got the confirmation of that. But I'm hoping for the best anyway and Andrew off today. And Chris Moore sitting in Nice to have you with us. James Bochy. Oni. Yeah, that's correct. Reducing the program this afternoon. And we're taking your phone calls at 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. As always, we appreciate you being here on this college football Saturday. Really the last big college football Saturday off the year when you consider that everything else will be bull related. Although what you know the Christmas holiday is the 25th. So obviously Saturday, the 26th and Saturday the second so we could get some games in there. I haven't really looked to be honest at all of the bowl schedules. And who's playing and who's not. Some of the Bulls have gone away and some teams of elected not to play in bowl games. So we just wait and see about that Remind you that we're coming alive with rocket mortgage by Quicken Loans Studios when you want the ability to adjust your loan options in real time, remember that rocket can Watching surprisingly, at Justin Fields in Ohio State and the struggles thus far for them. This Saturday afternoon against Northwestern. In a terminally long Halftime show. I might add, but the Bills have to be paid, and the promotions have to be done, and the money has to be made. So I get it, but eventually they'll start playing again. Hopefully in the year 2020. It has been Very patchwork. 2020 season. We know that It has been very hard to embrace it from a fan standpoint, and it has been difficult to evaluate the teams. You know, it just is. So of course, the committee and The networks and everybody wants the big names. Why take Indiana when you could take a while? State? You know the country is not gonna pay much attention to in Indiana or Northwestern. What they will do in Ohio State just out of habit more than anything else, and let's face it. We have been in an era where Alabama clumps in Ohio State in particular. Those three have Dominated the college football landscape, and we just expect them to be around at the end, and it has been good for ratings. It has been good for debate. And having the heavyweights. Has been You know, perception's everything we see it in elections and everything else. So America's learned that perception is everything and the heavyweight perception of Alabama Clemson pimp Ohio State. Isn't going away any time soon. We'd rather have that. You know, we would rather have that asked the NHL, you know, they rotate there. Winners all the time, and it hasn't been great for business. It's fine for competition. You know, Competition and entertainment are two different things. And a big part of You know what I was going to talk about today was or is the difference between competition in an entertainment and how The marriage has to be a good one, You know, really in order first for spectator sports. Television sports to thrive. The marriage of competition and entertainment has to be a good one. Baseball right now is not entertaining. It is competitive. But it's not entertaining. The MBA. The heat with standing is generally not overly competitive, but it is entertaining and the numbers show you that, especially with the younger fans who really get into it. So It's important to serve both sides. It really is and when you don't There are Consequences to be had And you could look at all four of the major sports And understand that and now you must add into it. Although you could say this is the entertainment side as well. The gambling aspect, which has escalated it's always been there. We know that fantasy is not exactly new anymore Fantasy sports and, you know, yes, the fan duels and draft kings and all that. Are relatively new compared to fantasy football itself for fantasy sports itself, but The Organized nature of it. The financial choices that you have, and the numbers themselves are clearly Escalating to the point where It's a central part of Young people's interest in sports right now. Is that Either. Primary interest or secondary interest in The financial aspect or the pride if for some people who who really participate in there Uh, Fantasy leagues for pride. You know, they want to be the smartest guy and they want to prove that their smartest and the money is nominal. But the pride level is high. There aren't as many of those there used to be a lot more of those. Just be a lot more people operated on pride than operated on the financial aspect of it. That is flip flop completely in my mind now, and it's mostly a financial Endeavor with the pool but still with high school kids. College kids, etcetera, younger generation is a great element of pride in their in winning your fantasy league and being smarter than everybody else. Etcetera, So that's a part of it as well. But what really got me thinking about this? We'll take your calls on it at 855 to 124227. Is.

"To the Pony Express. Here's Andrew Philip Pony. Stanford goes up on number 23 Washington seven. Nothing that's getting back to what we're talking about here this season and how much It really matters. How about Stanford? Now they're going to stay in the Pacific Northwest. They're not going back to Northern California because of the restrictions placed on Team sports. Group activities. Craziness of this college football season, so many games canceled. Games that won't get made up. Teams playing without their head coach's teams playing with Small rosters. Some teams playing 11 games, sometimes playing five Nice to have it better than nothing. I can't look at this season as 20 twenty's just in a category by itself. Kind of numb to it like well, like we're numb, do a lot of things. So I can't get too high. I can't get too low on anything that happens this year. You know, in extreme cases, you do something like Jim Harbaugh at Michigan would be one But I think coaches that are on the hot, see if it's borderline. If there's not an obvious case to fire the guy, I think you keep him. I just don't think you can take too much out of this year. I don't know what you think it 855 to 124227. I mean, are you carrying and watching and following college football the same This year is you always have You think the national champion will be viewed the same. "They call him the Pony Express. Andrew Philip Pony. How you doing, my friend. That I was let go tonight. Left Go was good now will jump into it, I guess right out of the gate left. Go said that the Steelers need Levian bell. Do you agree? Well, let's go something I'll say about him quickly. We went to school together at Syracuse on DH. I was a better stretch for than him. So I was kind of hoping that you would have me on before him. That way. You could revisit these comments. With him. But if you needed a guy who was a little over 6263 Step out. Make a perimeter shot. I would say you would draft me first. In him second, which is to take nothing away from Adam, left go. But if you go look up some of the intramural records and media cup records of Syracuse you're going to see my name. They're not his. We'll forget. Hold on. Forget the belt question is left. Go trash it playing basketball or you just much better. He was fine. He was more into the fraternity league. That's that. Then then the open intramural league I have We have a mutual friend who played on both teams. And I think he would vouch for me. Over Adam and Adam was a fine player. We had very similar games. That's why bring it up. We both were not really Um, we were power forwards. We were guys that were bigger than like to play away from the basket back where you always sober for those basketball again. I wasn't but I don't think he was either. I got a big gig. Now He's got a big job or he might not tell you the truth about that. We used to have a tradition. He might not remember this, but we used to go to the same place on campus. Watch games on Sunday because he was a huge eagle fan, and we wouldn't get all the games that Syracuse so we'd have to go to a place with Sunday tickets, and that was during the MC Nabb, Carollo and Sarah. Of Eagles football, So I only got to school. He was really excited about the Eagles, and they went to a symbol moths in New England. And that was our freshman year And then my senior year on a giant and I wass And I was there for the undefeated Patriots win in Super Bowl 42. So ultimately I got the last laugh on him. As a football fan, But Adam's a good guy, and I'm happy that he didn't disappoint tonight. Zach, I appreciate you saying that Andrew Philip Pony here with us Now, you know, the Syracuse broadcaster. There's some guys that are really good dudes and cut for this business. And there's some other guys that are just Syracuse snobs. Where do you fall in those categories? I am very sheepish about bringing up the school as faras our dominance in media because I know the negative connotation that comes with that so I am one of these guys that is very happy and very lucky. I should say. That I I got in with the right crowd there and then used those contacts to get myself a job. But I'm not one of those guys that rubs and everybody's face that we do broadcasting the right way. And everybody does it the wrong way. So, ah, lot of those people that you were hitting at. We don't have to name names here. But if you want to, we can go down that list. Our guys that even though they went to the same school as me, I would not. I would not brag or have not boast about saying that we have the same diploma on the wall. How about that? Is there one name that stands out in particular that you're not a big fan of Well, I hate you right now. You don't. Yeah, I know. I was going to say I was going to say you guys are gonna lead you had, like in a week. Class where it was Nick, Right? Who else was there at Syracuse? I've heard this story before. So Nick Wright was a year older than me. Lap Ko is my year. Ah Steve Gelb, Susan S and Y. In New York Mets games a year younger than me, John Jastremski. It was on the network. Ws in New York, I think is a year younger. Than the Danny Parton, who's on the score in Chicago, and it was on the network for a while. If you're younger than being is one of my best friends So we had a good run there. Zach Berman, who athletic eagles beat guy He was on our staff. So, Yeah, we have We have some guys that ended up you know, you never know. You know, You never know when you're in school. These guys just pour everything into broadcasting in their career. Which ones they're going to make it A which ones won't And I'm not sure I fall in that list. I did. It might have been some bets on me. Kind of followed by the way, side slipping slipping through the cracks that but you know here we are having this conversation right now. Andrew Philip Pony, not a Syracuse Snow up here with us on the Zach Gelb show Levi in Belle. Do you think the Steelers would be interested in bringing him back? Well, they should be in this. It's such. It's a question that if you if you pulled my peers Ah, you get a lot of different answers on this, But you had me on the show and not them. So I'm going to give you my take. On this. Um I'll start by saying I I was not said to the Lady on Bel Leve. I thought he had worn out his welcome here. I'm not a big believer in paying the premium for running backs and given his contract demands. I thought when he turned down the Steelers offer, it was a blessing in disguise now. That's not I'm not here to tell you. I told you so. I'm just giving the tide of the back story the context to what I'm about to say that You know, no one really dispute here. What Schefter reported last November. The Steelers tried to trade for him. Which is super interesting because of the contract. He had $52 million in $27 million guaranteed. So I think it stands to reason that if they were interested in Lady on Bell with that contract Why wouldn't they be interested in him now? They won't have to pay him much money. They have a history of bringing old Steelers back. Plaxico Burress closed out his career here. James Harrison went to the Bangles retired and then came back to the Steelers. Most of the moves they made around, cut down. They were to bring old Steelers back now. Those were just fill out the roster. The point is they like guys who they know in their system. And they obviously know that Belle fit here because of all the great numbers we put up so That's my way of saying Yeah, they should be interested now. I don't know that for sure..

"My name's Andrew Philip Pony, the Pony Express, CBS sports radio say on Saturday. That all of this talk about Bree's being shot is totally Ovary overrated in it. It's a complete overreaction. I got a guy Bucky Brooks here who played in the NFL and rights for NFL dot com. His The topic of this story is that Drew Brees won't rebound from his early struggles, and he's citing next Next. Ah, next Gen stats. Talking about how So many of his passes where two guys out of the backfield and how his percentage of throws downfield. Or just incredibly low. Oh, yeah, because Amira. Is in his back field that he didn't have Michael Thomas, Okay? There. I mean, problem solved. Orb. This isn't really a riddle. This is not a hard one. This isn't complicated. The one of the best wide receivers in the NFL didn't play. And he's got a running back who just gave a bunch of money to who can catch the ball out of the backfield. So Yeah. When Drew Brees goes off, we'll see. We'll let let's wait and see what it sounds like Monday morning because Aaron Rodgers is going to play without Davonte Adams. Let's see how good he looks. Without his all pro wide receiver, his number one wide receiver, he can see what it was like for Drew Brees last week to not have a guy who he can count on and depend on When a play breaks down. He knows who to go to his first read. Almost every time is Michael Thomas didn't play with him didn't have them they lose. It's not even like Dorland. Scott blown out or got held three points They scored in that game. That's the other thing. You didn't Goto Vegas and lose 37 to 6. They scored a ton of points. Not a not a time. They didn't score 40 points they scored. They scored enough. Major Phillip, only CBS Sports radio, So I want to know. Where you are Injury breeze. If you watched that game on Monday, if you're now that if you believe that the football Grim Reaper Have finally has finally found him. And if you think his career's over any shot and he's done, and they need to go to James Winston or Taysom Hill, which I still think is insane. You could call me and give me your thoughts at 855 to 12 for CBS. 855 to 124227. The other thing, in addition to breathe, because then we could do two things at once year. We can multi task and talk about a couple things this hour. The other conversation I'd like to have with you is about the game on Monday. And I don't usually talk about Monday night games on a Saturday show. But I can't help myself. This chief's ravensgame might end up being the game of the year. I I see the Ravens favored minus 3.5. I can't wait to bet the Chiefs. I can't believe I'm getting an opportunity to bet Patrick Mahomes as an underdog. The reason why I'm so convinced Kansas City will win the game. Is because And I'll say this, too. Before we get to that point, I'm going to say something you almost like. I don't like to say stuff like this. Because I think it's usually not a big deal at all. But this would be one of the rare times where I think it is. If I if I'm keen to city and I win the coin toss, I'm taking the ball. If I have an opportunity to get the ball first. If I'm the chief's I do it because we don't we have not seen a ton of Lamar Jackson when trailing His team in the regular season last year. I think they played 14 straight games now. Without trailing in the second half. NFL regular season games. Obviously, Tennessee didn't work that way in the playoffs. But in the regular season, they've I believe they haven't trailed in the second half in like 14 games. And that's that allows Baltimore. To have that dual threat offense with Jackson, where He's such a threat to run and you're so worried about it. It opens up It opens up things for everybody else when he trails he's a different quarterback, and one of the rare times we've seen him have to play from behind the entire game was last September in Kansas City. And when that happened, the Ravens were much different Team. He only ran the ball eight times against Kansas City. They ended up scoring points. But there was mostly hollow points. Garbage time points, cosmetic points that just made the score. Look better than it really was. I came to city. I take the ball to start the game. I can't believe I'm getting a chance. To bet on Kansas City, and I can I can bet on it legally. I'm in Pennsylvania. We've legalized this thing. We're not living in the You know 18 hundreds. We actually believe that sports betting should be legal. Other other states have said you, Khun, play blackjack and bet on horses. But you can't bet on sports, which makes no sense to me, but anyways Um I get to bed on. Mahomes is an underdog. A guy that short of getting injured and hurting his knee and a quarterback keeper last year against Denver. In a few times where his offensive line has led him down a little bit is pretty much the best quarterback. Going and.

"Sports radio. Here's Andrew Philip Pony. Well this week that was blown way out of proportion. By those of us in the media. And that was the Bruce Arians comment on Tom Brady's first start, where he was critical and Not Brady needed to be better blamed him for interceptions wasn't shy about Saying those things publicly. And I think there's a method to that madness with Arians. I think he's doing it number one to show the rest of the team there. That Tom Brady is not a God that he is in on a pedestal. But he's a guy that even with his six Super Bowl rings in all of his records, is still A player that is subject to review. And isn't above getting called out for poor play. Okay, So that's the first thing there. That's the first A reason why You don't back off or you don't shy away from using. That platform. Two. Given honest assessment of the player. The second reason why that gets blown out of proportion in anybody that is given Arians are hard time about it or thinks it's going to drive a wedge between the two is nuts. The other reason why I love it is because we know That that kind of coaching Gets through to Brady. We know that works. Now, Brady doesn't always maybe in the moment appreciate it. But For 20 years. That's how Bella check coached him. For 20 years. Belichick wasn't Above. Or was not beneath him. Two. You know, I know this because I've got friends who played for the Patriots. You said he would rip into Brady. And tear into him. And dress him down like he was a practice squad player if he thought he deserved it. And the reason why Brady Reason why that's in the effective coaching strategy with Brady. Is because he takes those slights and those criticisms so seriously. They motivate him to be better. He's wired. So have people doubt him. When people doubt him. He he plays better. He uses that is fuel. So Arians knows that. If we're talking about a coach That doesn't have. Bruce Arians doesn't have Super Bowl championships like Belichick. But he's won everywhere He's been He said. Great success working with quarterbacks. He said. Great success with Peyton Manning banner out this burger. Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer. He's coaxed wins out of guys like Drew Stanton. So he's got the clout. He's got the background. Where if he wants to get on Brady's Ask for something I think he can. And I don't think No, I don't think Brady would have signed up to play for a coach. Of any of any less pedigree or no R or notoriety. He he picked in part, I know he didn't have a ton of offers. But what I think attracted him The Tampa Was the personnel. The guys to throw the ball to In the coach. And I don't think Aaron's gonna flush all that down the toilet off of one bad game in New Orleans of all places. I'm going to take Brady a little bit of time. Not a ton. I don't think we're going to be having the same conversations around Halloween. I'm not. I'm not surprised one coach and quarterback that have been together. For almost 15 years in breeze and Sean Payton. Would find a way to win that game and would look not that breeze looked super sharp, sharp. It's not like he had Like he had a game for the annals for the record books. I'm not surprised that breeze outplayed Brady in that game. Readies Offensive line Two isn't exactly set the world on fire and That's something else that needs to come together. Better offensive line pit play. I think Tampa Also Needs to give Leonard for not a chance, And if he loses that job, or he's not good enough, so be it. That's a position where you can plug and play easier than others. Get for net out there, enough with Ronald Jones. That nonsense. We know what Ronald Jones's Four. Let's help the team go to the go to the F C championship game before Shady. McCoy's a nice, complimentary back, but he's also 100 years old. So I would give for another chance. 855 to 124227 Here is Matt in Florida on CBS Sports Radio. Hi map. How you doing, man? I want to. I want to talk about the Colts and Vikings game for both teams. Both quarterbacks have a lot of proof, and I think you know it's starting on here. Like you said earlier. It's a detriment to the king. And I also think Calvin Cooke is the makeup break player of the Games. Well, I thought, even though it was a loss to a team they were heavily favored against. I thought the Colts actually there's Mohr toe like them to not like about that game. Against Jacksonville. Philip Rivers was outstanding 366 yards. Why Helen dropped a couple of balls. He should've hung onto late in that game. You're paying him like a number one wide receiver make those place. You've been punked..

"You're listening to Andrew Philip Pony. Blink of an eye. Clemson went up 14 and nothing on the citadel that didn't take long. I wonder how long Trevor Laurence will play in that game. I'd get him out of there. I don't even know if I would have started him. Maybe they didn't because I don't have that game on right now. But I just I don't really see that gay to me makes no sense. I understand it was hard to find, not conference games. Last second for some of these A cc schools. With everything that's that everything that's going on in the world. What does What does Clemson gain? What can they get out of playing The Citadel? It's not a game where you can make money off it. You can't put 70,000 people in the stands and Hey, a bad team. A bunch of money to come in and get its butt kicked. Who wants to watch that game on TV. Who wants to sit through Clemson at the Citadel, Clemson in the Citadel. You've got A quarterback that You know, could be sitting out and getting ready to play in the NFL. I think that would not have shocked people to see. He's back on Ly to win a national championship. What the hell do you get out of? I just I don't get that came at all. I'm not asking Clemson to play a nonconference game against Some huge program mean no one's doing that this year. Couldn't you find another? Couldn't you find another? FBS team. Notre Dame's Plain, South Florida. And they're blown him out. But that's at least a team that people know who they are. And beforehand. Yeah, the line was big, but it wasn't like people were rolling their eyes at the prospect of seeing Notre Dame in South Florida today. Notre Dame has answered the bell. They've come out and they've looked fantastic. I see no reason to spend if Clemson could win the game 77 to 2. And that wouldn't inflate or affect my opinion of Clemson whatsoever. It's just a colossal waste of everybody's time. I don't get it. Ohio State got off easy with this eight game scheduled in the Big 10 put out all the other contenders got a tough Crossover game. They didn't they got Nebraska. Illinois is like the big 10 wanted to punish Nebraska for Their players threatening a lawsuit. Okay, that's what you want to do. You want to try toe go independent on us. Here's Ohio State opening weekend. Good luck with that. So there's some Pettiness there. I think there's also the big 10 doing everything it possibly can. To make sure that that look not that Ohio state needs. Help. But they've got a tough road game going to Penn State. Even if there isn't 105,000 people there. That's not going to be an easy game. And now there's talk that Penn State might get like a parson's back. He opted out. Talking about one of the best linebackers. In all of college football guy That's probably going to be a top 10 pick in the draft. They're trying to do everything in their power to make sure that Ohio State can get there..

"Listening to Andrew Philip Pony. And per the conversation we were having before. We took a time out looking at a video right now on social media, professional baseball in Taiwan, and they are fans at games. And they have found a way to socially distance people and Fans are getting sick and players there aren't getting sick. And that is so unbelievably upsetting in frustrating to me. Because For America. This is Major league baseball. We were supposed to set the tone, and we're supposed to be better than everyone else. We're supposed to be the leaders. I love baseball. But I'm not in. I'm not in love with baseball anymore. If that makes any sense I love it, but I'm not in love with it. Inserting the word in there makes a big difference to me. It's I love it because it's something I'm comfortable with. And it's just been a part of my life for 30 plus years. But I'm not crazy about it the way that I used to be. And that's because I've watched I've watched them really mishandle and bungle and screw up. So much. And the sport is good enough. Even now, with interminable games and The way that they've bastardized thegame. It still is good enough that it has my attention. Even It will when, when? When they Presumably start the season in a week or two. I'll still be there. But it's it's a source of so much. If I'll give baseball this it does. It does get me to a motel. In this sort of way where my passion is still there, where the mistakes they make. The lack of leadership the short sightedness. The game's failures. They they still do. Get me upset. It's not. It's not apathy. Which is what all sports try to guard. And ward off and protect themselves. From You know, I think we have seen Some of these leagues. They have started to come back. Things have happened that I believe have created hope were optimism for people. Golf being able, and that's an easier sport to social, socially distant peeps, socially distant people and pull off and it's an individual sport, not a team sport, So if somebody gets sick, the show can go on. The Gulf is giving people hope. I think the NHL is doing that they get a new C B A don. It seems like everybody is committed. Everybody believes in that what they're trying to dio. I think the NFL did that with its draft in free agency. I think baseball is just on the exact opposite ever since they started negotiating and trying to figure.
