Multiple NFL teams removed Tua Tagovailoa from their draft board
"The hatred for to a total of a lower is at an all time high after the past couple of weeks of where do you draft two of his hip his hip his hip his tip is the big concern I wouldn't track to be sliding down draft boards he could go was as high as third or as low as twenty third which trust me that is not happening all the hate culminated tonight in at culminating in the all the hate coming tonight with a report of two was Wunderlich which she took it came back with a score of thirteen and now I can't get over and it's haters because I just have to say haters because of the way things have been going and I'll get into why but it's haters who are just continually jumping up and down on to and how all yeah I don't know if I could read about it if I can draft all right first of all let's deal with the hip he's got a clean bill of health right now okay he's healthy he is healthy could you get it in four years could something happen with his hip yeah put in four years a guy you draft instead of him could be out of the league right there's a risk in every single player you take in the NFL draft there's very few perfect prospects will the last perfect prospects pose it was Andrew luck I think was the last guy that got the highest grade that Kashmir was was Andrew luck and before that I think it was Peyton manning I did with over the last couple of guys to get perfect grades coming out of college there's no such thing as a perfect prospect all right the thing is the thing what people fail to realize with two a is that when you can talk about someone that's had injuries it's tangible it's black and white so it's easy to say well I would worry about him because you know we could wind up having an injured hip in a couple yeah you could you know other guys could wind up getting hurt too but because it's an injury it's something tangible that I don't know the hip could given problems you know it's not tangible the fact that the quarterback might not be able to make his second weakness progression mark Sanchez may not be able to do that and that's going to find a guy out of the league faster than a guy who's good with a hip injury there are so many risks for quarterbacks but we we focus on the physical because that's what we can understand what all the evaluators you see we have a filter they're looking at if they're picking everything apart why is this guy going to be able to travel to the next level because he's able to go through his progressions quickly or he's able to put the football in a place where only his teammate is going to get to it look Joe burrow it made a meal out of that this season only putting the football where his player was going to go get on LSU there's so many things going with there's so many risks for every player there's just as much risk for Justin Herbert because the guy could be a bust all right I want to play some games last year your chase a locker for on with us earlier this week he said there's a couple of games he looked like a high school kid playing quarterback he looks so bad last year everything to what has done on the field physically has shown you he is the tag for to a guy he is the most talented quarterback in the NFL draft and how I know what's haters when it comes to everything now you have the Wonderlic score out here of thirteen thirteen is not the worst for the world there's been guys with scores in the single digits and you know what some of them it has to stop Frank gore I think got a seven on the Wonderlic and he's going to the hall of fame so it's not like you just because you could have low score thirteen I think he took it before I got a nineteen on it when he was at Alabama together thirteen now his score is absolutely fine but all this jumping up and down on to a is all haters and it's all pushing is his value down and it's not fair because what's not being talked about by the same people that are like a draft to again as a present what about all the other things he brings to the table what about all the reasons why you would take of that height with considering what he can do physically what kind of arm he has what kind of accuracy has how strong his arm is how you can get outside the pocket all right his attitude that so far has been the best part of it no one's talking about because he's taking all of this eight and he is not imploded he's not explode is not blamed anybody he he is just trying to let people know I'm healthy right so this is a kid who's healthy could be hurt later on yeah but like I said the the risks for other players are out there too as long as he's healthy now he is the most talented quarterback in the draft there's no reason why I wouldn't take him I I I said months ago I would take him number one overall other people came to the party late on that congratulations it's good for us so I would take him number one I told you as always gets a clean bill of health I take a number one because he's that good the people are forgetting he was that good and if I'm a team in in the draft and I need a quarterback I am happy as hell with this is going on right now because this means the price to move up for him is going to be less and less because the lines are open for business at three and the giants are open for business at four and if teams are going to get scared away and there will be teams scared away of two a because of his health because what whatever reason because now is the time when teams talk themselves into things they don't need to talk themselves into the competition to move up to get him is going to be a lot less so a lot of teams that need quarterbacks you're not hearing from they are happy as hell right now still to this around that yeah yet continue to hate to us so we can go up and get in and get a franchise quarterback and be and be set for the next
Fantasy, Meet Reality: A Running Back Breaks Out, Then Disappears
"Liz Merrill is a senior writer for ESPN. So we're doing a package on one one hit wonders. And he editors thought who'd be better to sort of headline this but Jonas Gray story it's been about five five years. Since his breakout game. It was November sixteenth. Two thousand fourteen. What happened on that day? New England would've gone through one of those September's which everyone in Britain them off. You know they've lost that Miami in the opening game and then they went to Kansas City and just got clobbered and then to patriots form. They rattled off five wins. And they're back to their dominating cells. Broody leads US Patriots into town to the Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. Football how Michael Smith game was a Sunday night football game and it was a highly anticipated anticipated game because it was a rematch of that year's divisional round game tonight. It's Andrew Lock Against Tom. Brady get your calculators out. There should be really default to rescue teams. Both come off by weeks. There's a cave named Jewish graves is making star back to the ground. This this is Jonas Gray Gray to the thirty yard line. You know. It's amazing what nobody knew was except for people in very inner struggles of New England And he actually had a really impressive training camp and Bella check had told him. You know you're so close to making the roster oster but they didn't activate them until mid October when Steven Ridley towards ACL this guy he wasn't uh-huh regular starter at Notre Dame. He was on the practice squad until three weeks ago. So his mom and his brother drove about three hundred miles from mm-hmm where they lived outside of Detroit. The Game Jonas at the time was living in a one bedroom apartment and this modest area outside of Boston Austin on the very bare bones and the only tickets. He could really sport. His family. Were in the nosebleed seats. They're ZEHR watching the game. There's all this anticipation there's nerve block white with Michelle. Give the gray runs. Between Guard and center white. He pushes to the end zone. Owed go to spray has a touchdown patriots. He's scores his first touchdown and his mom is like okay. I'll clap. I'm I'm pretty exciting. This is so awesome. So she's Kinda cool about it in cash and then you know he's course again and then we. He scores his third touchdown. I get the great lowers the coders running. It was more a touchdown his she drops to a knee in like complete. You know amazement and just so older well that you know for kids. It's finally getting a chance. And then Jonas Gray Mix Histories Iowa thing for two hundred one yards and four touchdowns give give the pig right. He runs a lot he for the Patriots. Schoolyard can't stop. Stop it so Jonas Gray erupts. He has this once in a lifetime. Performance how does he react. After the game he'd reaction was pretty wide. I I mean I think that's one of the things that made the story so endearing it because he was just like holy cow. Here's Glock like celebrating Alabama with me. Here's Tom Brady headbutting. Me All the stuff that you see in the movies really you know the thing you know. act like he's been there I mean and he did act like you've been there but inside he was completely awash. You know in all of the surprise and the joy and there was sort of that moment where from Michelle Foia talks to him. They had the traditional interview with the Star of the game. Let's turn to John Ray. Yeah Guy who didn't hear his name before you're going to be hearing it a lot. We heard it many times tonight and he's doing nervous. I mean there's a guy who graduated with a degree in English and he did stand up comedy already in college. So you know. She knew his way around the microphone but she didn't know what he's GonNa say touchdowns the first four of your NFL career on at this stage had explain this performance. I'm just blessed. Blessed beyond belief we put together a great game plan. They hammered in all week. She watched this for so long. Keep Watch Tom Brady. And GRONK and company and Julia Nettleton on TV. It was just one of those things where you just couldn't believe all this is happening. Someone one of those guys men are probably go home tonight and get back. I'll probably just lay in bed. Look up in the ceiling. Just just astonished man. What's going on? Aw Right in a great story man. God's helping
NFL Week 7
"Let's get into the Games for Sunday pain we can start at Lucas oil stadium we're we're looking at Indianapolis a modest one point home favourite total in this game forty seven at Fox but of course to Houston Texans have been dynamic of late F one four out of their last five covered the last four have a little bit of playoff revenge on their minds for a game that they were dominated by Andrew Luck in company to the tune of twenty one seven season ago and in a unique scheduling quirk or call it what you will both teams actually enter Sunday's game fresh off a victory against the Kansas City chiefs interesting did not know that why Chins I didn't know I didn't really realize that listen I think when we look at this matchup we look at this game we're starting to see what the Texans offense has the potential to be right with a little help up front we've kind of seen flashes the last few seasons of you know in the lead offense when it's healthy Wendy Shawn Watson has it rolling and he's confident is a passer which you look the last two weeks Houston's had the best pass protection in the Watson air and I think that's pretty important moving forward the ground game has also been on fire something that the Houston Texans could not do last year was run the ball consistently would fizzle out constantly in the red zone and it's because I think they found some consistency upfront finally right you found your five guys as the talent is playing spots I think that suit them best in you're looking through the last two weeks eight pressures fifty six percent of runs of grades so now let's see if that continues because it's it's it's a two-game sample it's a byproduct of probably facing the chiefs and Falcons defenses and I think also the right is Howard injury at right tackle could shake up some of that piece of this that I've kind of been alluding to their other thing in this match up that's kind of caught my attention and it kind of is a a broader point a topic that we've discussed Ad Nauseam ruin knows at this point we liked the coach's coaching staff of the colts were not fond of it for the Houston Texans and I think coaching tends to matter when the opponent is familiar and everybody kind of knows what each other wants to do and it's the coaching staff that comes out and has the power Henschel or ability to make adjustments and make changes and I think the team that does that rise probably the colts and you look last season these guys play each other three times in the I meeting which was the first time Frank Reich saw this team Shawn Watson has seven point one yards per pass in week four that number tumbles to five point three per pass in week fourteen and then you had the quick turnaround Wildcard Game Watson was held a four point two yard pass at home and I think that's interesting it's something that you have to talk about here there's another element play and it's one we've talked about I think we talked about it on the Monday night breakdown of the new CBA about home teams coming off the bye and they generally haven't performed overly well it's you know about forty one percent of the time they're covering think it's positive if you've done some reading this week Frank Reich iterative that this was not a time to vacation that this was rest recover and mentally focused on the bye week there was no vacation time no one was allowed to travel so it would make me nervous in a pick em game choosing bill over Frank Reich and you know it just it that becomes magnified when you have two weeks the game plan
Fantasy intel for all 32 NFL teams ahead of Week 7
"Of information kind of funny because the beginning of the year we were told the Broncos had the most difficult schedule the NFL or second most most behind Texas dipping high look at it now everybody's talking about the schedule being so easy it's funny how on paper something looks in the beginning of the season and you get a way it was easy to find out it's not what you thought you with the Cleveland Browns for instance everybody was in the high pick for the Superbowl now they might not even win their division so you know it's it's it's interesting to watch to stop play out well even in the course of the of the flows of the season I mean as soon as Andrew luck announces retirement a lot of people just immediately said okay the culture gonna be picking in the top five judge go we were set is doing okay in fact the colts might even not necessarily go into the draft picking a high quarterback they might say you know Hey you if you if you could make us a competitive team Jacoby maybe they let you roll with it another year and they'll just bring in a quarterback they'll draft a quarterback to develop behind him I agree and I think it's amazing that you didn't mention Chad Kelly in there once that's because I shouldn't and nobody should here right but they they you know a little help Broncos fans are some people that I know I know I'll floater the one that got away the legend to the got away preseason legend Kyle floater all time grease motor back in a pre season he's putting up some really spectacular preseason numbers Benjamin rushing it yeah but highly loader single handedly ending the dreams of future insurance salesman but but to that point and I and I'm glad you brought that up and we we spoke about this a few times the ANC overall pretty weak conference you have the top in teams right we know those teams it it that doesn't change anything we knew that those teams were gonna probably be good but what happens is there's a lot of middling to bad teams teams actively taking in the A. F. C. N. and then there are teams that are look inconsistent at best and so for for the Broncos that's why you when we were in the midst of the old for when the Broncos were in the midst filled before we were talking about it we said look star string together a few wins yeah you never really know how this is going to shake out and in the midst of the Broncos getting the two wins in a row which they really should have three in a row the chief lose too and they lose too in a way that actually is a replicable likely teams or Detroit Lions basically did it carry that into the colts game the colts they went to Kansas city and they didn't even better and in the Texas look the the Texans model what is John Watson and and the officer told this sort of their shots it wasn't like they they wanted that game saying if we can hold them under twenty no I just did their thing they took chances will fuller drop three touchdowns in that game now three touchdowns in the game on now you know a great week start will fuller your fantasy league yeah I don't know any Benjamin all rights that would have invested heavily in him and done that but I I but yeah yeah that happened well buddy that that's that's what kills is like you know well for the week before hundred seventy yards receiving three touchdowns any of this to find digs going off for three W. like those things happen in that everybody's gonna rush to put it back in their or their line ups and then at the very next week their their disappointment right I'm not appoint chaser by as those good match up and then put in that vein it's not like the tents that that's where I'm I'm like look does the size of the Broncos to do their thing but it doesn't mean that the offense can execute effect I'll go almost a further with you on this bed I think mostly Joe Flacco today I think Joe Flacco once it I think Joe Flacco after kinda have in a a little a little bit of a everything taken off of him like like Hey we got this game Joe don't don't stress too much don't screw up in in the Titans game we got this one the way he's been Kerry himself the way he's been talking about the office I don't have a cut for me but she basically said something to the effect of like we want to be a reason why we win this game but not just part of like along for the ride the office was along for the ride in the Titan's went kinda yeah and I think that Joe Flacco of all people knows what both sides of that coin feel like you know he he was along for the ride with the ravens a lot of the time he also strung together the reason that they got two and won a Superbowl so you've been bullseyes that coin he sees tasted in all the that the tree of of winning in a great offense and now I I I do think that you think is will chip on your shoulder when you come away from the Titans game like well you know we actually kind of stock but the defense held us together you know the run game was next out the past came with very good at it I mean it wouldn't the office of Lee that what a great game by the Broncos are flashes they made some big plays and they need to but they try to put it in kinda cruise control because they knew they didn't have to I mean that the tides getting crossed the fifty yard line in the first three quarters play that I recall they got to the forty nine once had a point all of our four template but I mean you know when you when you bottom up that well get out your office kinda I don't see the check out but you know they recognize are not needed and there can be you can kind of let off the gas a little this was the quote he said there's always that side of it of wanting to go out there and have your claim on the game and all that is like there's always a personal side going out there and playing football games I don't think that always means it's a bad thing it's like I said I think you go out there and focus on what you're doing with the idea that it's for the guy next to you would have to repair the best you can so you're not letting anybody else down but again he kind of point at the very beginning of that he kind of pointed out yeah you know what you play this game you play this game to be remembered you play this game to be a winner and you don't want to be along for the ride of your quarterback like they did there you're less your a career pack up that is being brought in just to keep the seat warm you want to go out there you want to kind of put your stamp on the game just like I didn't get a chance to really do that this last game I think he really wants this one and he's got the defense I think to do that if they can get that run game warmed up early he'll have his spots to be able
Colts reportedly sign former Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer
"The colts have signed former patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer to a three year twelve million dollar deal that includes nine million dollars guaranteed purse source so we now have Jacoby per set and Brian Hoyer also known as the former back up room for the patriots as the quarterback room for the colts makes a lot of sense to Kobe percent obviously the start of a Brian or your lawyer gives you somebody that has started has played high level games of this league not regret regrettable playoff game but he's played some high level football in this league and is somebody you can depend on to be a back up yeah I know it's a shame the patriots really just want this guy to be their back up again I can't seem to keep him around so thoughts and prayers the patriots are now going to deal with that's right Jr instead and had a phenomenal pre season on the patriots it's gonna be a more than capable backup that some other team probably tried to poach at some point the rich just keep getting richer there but you're right much needed depth for cold seem that now is dealing with a new reality yeah well and you know Brian where is kind of like what Pat suggests a pancake with peanut butter and jelly he's a delightful treat you got Brian Hoyer come in peanut butter and jelly pancake that is Brian where here for the colts I'd listen I don't know if Brian Hoyer necessarily qualifies as one of those are coming about originally are a league level sandwiching agree as I don't know if Brian Hoyer gets the credit for. no but that's like a surprise you know you didn't expect you were gonna have a pancake were bright with peanut butter and jelly Alexis looks fans weren't like we're gonna expect to have this this quarterback situation buttoned up with the colds definitely are getting that like if you were getting a stack of pancakes the were the Indianapolis Colts going into the season you were expecting it to look like the you know the top of an I hop menu blotter syrup all over it the perfect picture because you're walking with Andrew luck and now instead what you're left with is Jacoby percent who we think could be a very good quarterback for them this year we've seen it in a smaller sample size and they love him in the building so much so the danger look was jealous of him coming back and you throw Brian Hoyer which is much needed depth but it would be like opening up a set of pancakes and seeing what someone suggested as peanut butter jelly pancakes I for one am shocked it has taken us this long I mean I'm sure people have done it but why is that not a menus everywhere like is there something I'm missing about that combination that wouldn't make it perfect you need to go to more boozy brunch places which I'm surprised isn't like right up
Colts reportedly sign former Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer to a three-year deal
"The patriots cut Brian Hoyer over the weekend so but that quarterback is now landed in Indianapolis of course the colts lost Andrew luck who abruptly retired so Brian Hoyer gets according to the NFL information guys a three year deal worth twelve million dollars nine million
Andrew Luck stuns NFL world with sudden retirement
"I think andrew luck came came to a place of peace says you're grading system is on a curve that i'm not subscribing anymore so it was andrew luck that has to answer the answer to andrew luck ultimately even though we all get the witnesses. Can i respond you better word that we're not putting out their obligation shen obligation quarterback ability. Have you ever been as a franchise quarterback. I haven't either believe it or not. I have never been a franchise quarterback quarterback. I always dreamed of being one but never had that opportunity or maybe it wasn't good enough to get that opportunity. The bottom line is that organization committed and invested in him and to do this to a team going into the season. I believe he has an obligation to try to handle the situation in the best way possible civil even if he knows he's gonna retire why create a controversy going into the season when you can easily defer that conversation until after after the season by just saying it's best for this organization. Maybe i might even change my mind because i even admitted in my previous in the press conference. I've only thought about this for about ten days. That's what he said. It was a quote right so give give yourself another couple of months to think about it. Go to europe for a month. Get away. Let that foot healed up a little but maybe maybe you'll come back in a month or month and a half and say i actually wanna play. I wanna try to take this team that i hear what you're saying. Steve i think obligation is a really tough off work. I do think there's a responsibility when you take on except all that money and everything they give you as a franchise quarterback but but obligation you've chosen that word intensely that gives you no wiggle room and you're saying that i think he tried to do the right thing. I didn't say he's got an obligation to stay in going into reserve. He's got an obligation to try to do. What's in the best interest of the organization. At that point i think in andrew luck mine did that in his mind what what he thinks is in the best interest organization may differ from you and jim and frank reich and jacoby perset but he did what he he felt was in his best interest and i think part of he thinks in the team and i always will bring this up byron left which was a franchise quarterback who went to the season ticket holder order luncheon who was demand and then they say august thirty. I get up outta here. David your turn sometime. Well guess what you could go the other way as well. This is not to jesuit. Yes what the boss can always fired period
"andrew luck" Discussed on NFL: The Dave Dameshek Football Program
"I've got a big one here. I already mentioned it. I know i know but i went <hes> jacksonville jaguars lars but now andrew luck is retired so let's jump in on that right now andrew lock first of all handsome. You have a little bit of history with him. The thing that strikes asked me about it is and not to get up. I'm out pious because there's so many people running up to malpractice over the seventy two hours or so since they andrew luck news broke that he's retiring first of all it is absolutely his right to retire whenever he wants if he doesn't want to play for whatever reason that is his right the reaction though before we even talk about the football implications that this is another opportunity to for people to to prove to themselves if no one else that they are better than their fellow human beings by sending up to mount pious and condemning fans how dare air fans blew andrew luck. Don't they know these these rubes these dummies these these people who lack any sense of empathy andrew luck is a hero for all. Don't you know he peed blood. Let me tell you one. I'll go one step further than everybody up. I'm out pies. I say andrew luck does was in half to have suffered some minimum standard of of physical injury. He can retire for any reason he wants. If he wants to become a yahtzee <hes> yahtzee competitive player popular. We're up more and eating competition. He can retire for that reason too that the thing that everybody is citing is don't those people know what he laid on the line don't they they heard the stories shame on those people good for you yeah and by the way that the players are getting getting in on it too big names aaron rodgers. I saw david decastro who played with luck at stanford now a high offense of lima for the steelers of course. I said they treat us like we're circus animals. I mean i you know. How much am i supposed to weep over that treatment. Yeah that's part of the gig man. You're like daniel day-lewis complaining complaining. I only got into the into the movie making for the craft of acting then just oh go go to stage go to the that's exactly really right just go and find some london haunt and do <hes> stage productions for eighty people who shop to see you you wanna be a part of the big states and that's part of the thing and the idea that fame shouldn't do this straw man argument. That's been laid out that like hey let me just tell you something. It's in fact mean-spirited tabu. Other people like yeah everybody agrees with that. Also that's part of the deal if you are in the pro football in the pro sports in our society in the twenty-first century people. We'll pay money to go there. Yeah it's to me. It's a little strange that grownups where the jerseys of other grownups with the names on the back and everything else but ed hey players hey leagues. That's what you want to have happen if the fan stop caring if they are passionate about the whole thing implodes pay. I don't know why i feel like i have to stand up for the fans but that food chain that i always talk about gm's and coaches get up and condescend to the media bill belichick probably the best of doing that then and the media turned around fans. You don't get what's really going on you. You can't understand that and the fans are these dopes who just have to take it and only genuflect to the players. I it makes me crazy that this is the place that worrying and there's a lack of recognition of until they need fans and they need the support ford. We're going through a hard time when the lakers pulled that jazz a couple years ago hey lakers fans. You were with us for the good times. You better stick with us for the bat..

"L. of leadership their style of play well. What do you make of it. Is it is. What did you make your first thought on andrew's retirement. My first i thought was mad while surprise when it goes across the ticker you surprised because you just don't think that that's what you're going to get two weeks before the season hell tell you it's only one we were tipped off. Wedneday hill jacoby were set out of their preseason game. We knew that probably starting the season edgy cobra so it was going to be the starting quarterback for the indianapolis colts so that was the first thing coming off last week the secondly when you hear this news you like man. This injury must have been a lot more <hes> severe than we were initially led to believe and we've heard different things. There are three different stories about what the injury was a calf strain typically. They wouldn't take this long. Maybe he was being extra cautious on the heels of like what we saw with kevin durant but you knew there had to be something going on for it to take this long for him to return to action and then when you hear about the retirement and you go back and you really hear him talk in the press and talk about being in the dark place and how how tough it was to sit out for eighteen months on the previous injury and how much punishment did he is taken. I can't begrudge him for for wanting to walk away. Because only he knows how much painted he has been in. Only he knows the struggles of his rehab. Only he knows the dark place that his mom was in and i would say this you come to a realization where you like. You know what is time and that time when you realize it can happen at any time for me. It happened in the middle of a preseason game getting ready to run down on a kickoff and i remember saying man. I really don't wanna hit which i don't wanna get hurt. I don't really want to endure anything and so you just know in gladiator sport where you have to have this era of invisibility once you lose that it's time to walk where a guy and so when andrew look fields. I can't do this anymore. He's doing everybody a disservice to continue to walk out and try to try and be the quarterback <hes> the colts when physically and mentally he's not there. You know it's interesting one of the beneficiaries of this. There's a bunch of old quarterbacks. There's a bunch of young quarterbacks luck russell wilson and matt ryan. We're kinda. The middle guys good enough to win a super bowl. I felt i guess you could put them in there. It kind of feels like russell wilson now. It's not one of the old guys not one of the babies. He's he's kind of in a six seven year age gap. He's the guy now once the rivers ben breeze brady move move. I saw a thing today one of the rankings they have him russell wilson now as the ninth best player in the league and the fourth best quarterback. Is that fair. Do you think think that's where it's at this fair. I think we should have been anyway. I think based on how russell wilson is played in what he's accomplished. I think you deserve to be in a category. I would add them over andrew. Luck anyway when you look at the way russell wilson came in the league and was viewed as a game manager. He managed a team when they have marshawn lynch and they won because of their defense. They're running game and occasional play making when they remove marshawn lynch and they didn't have anything around him. He's still played at a high level. The team didn't but he played at a high level last year. They paid him big money but still went back to the run first premise where they were running the ball more to anybody else in the national football league yet they would only break him out when they needed him any made place in my mind. That's actually how you supposed to use a franchise quarterback. You know use him all the time you use him when you need him. You have a franchise quarterback for those three or four days as with everything else is struggling. That's green bay has been too dependent on aaron rodgers. Yes you don't use it for all sixteen aaron. I need you to win..

E._j. husband avas joining us eleven years in the n._f._l. Multiple pro bowler so first of all andrew luck retiring. How did it sit with you. I was shocked when you retire retire. I don't even know if he was in his prime. He might have been approaching it. It's it's shocking. You don't see this happening. If you're injury rehab and you come back and play but anybody that's playing the n._f._l. Has had major injuries or just major pain. If it's just relentless in its day after day year after year. He was worn out mentally interest he was. I can't do it anymore and i wouldn't do it but i i don't fault them for doing it because i don't know the paint he's going through dea. Blame the fans for boeing. No i do not that. That's a natural reaction. Fans are fans when their team loses their upset a guy that they looked up to for what he did not for who he is <music> when they get the news. That emotion comes out. I'm okay with that because that was their initial reaction if they had to reflect on and look back on right now. I'm sure it would be different but no. I have no problem with it because that was a natural reaction. Steve berlin came out. Yesterday i applaud him for having the courage to go on twitter and have a different opinion nyan he said listen. I had <hes> you know zillion surgeries. I think it's a calf injury to lower leg injury they do he'll. I think you should have given up more time. What do you make his reaction listen. I read his comments. I thought it was irresponsible. No disrespect steve berlin played fourteen years in the league. He was a starter for three three years and so does he really know what it feels like to game in and game out get beat up like andrew ron ron griggs in his the main culprit. You give up a first round draft. Pick for trent richardson you didn't you didn't surround him with games or one and loss upfront and they didn't do that with andrew luck and for steve birla steve birla's looking at it like i was a career backup. There's no way i'm retirement but andrew lucked which is mentally worn out his body physically really took a toll on him and he just said i couldn't do it but birla's looking at it like i would never do it of course because you only started three out of fourteen years and so you wish you could have started fourteen eighteen out of fourteen in maybe his perspective would be different well yeah. I do think there's a pain element here. I think listen it's dangerous andrew alexa smart guy. If you're on painkillers repeatedly watch out we've had athletes. We've had like politicians. Governors people get addicted to painkillers that stuff scary colin every i had one surgery but i would get shot up almost every game with a needle that looked like it was like a foot long in my in my ribs and back area five six times times a year and i had one surgery and there's i didn't get hit as much as quarterback scott hit hit now and so i can only imagine the pain that i felt what if it's worse than that i can see it. I wanna talk to you about leadership for years and years people compared brady aaron and i said no no brady eighty in breeze have the same temperament. You can't find a player their combined thirty eight years in the league..

"There are a five hundred team cincinnati to me has to make some upgrades grades at quarterback. They're five and eleven a lot of that is just not going to win. Many games under division are gonna be pittsburgh or cleveland in my opinion. They're going to go and four with those guys and finally the a._f._c. South big changes here because of andrew looks departure. I gave houston <hes> because of another win that i would have in the summer eleven and five <hes> lamar miller's injury is something but they have do johnson also thinking the waiver wire. You can find running backs. Who are you know be minus. E plus complementary other offensive line is better how how much will find out. I think deshaun watson spectacular not sure why everybody doesn't embrace him. I think the big winner in this division to his tennessee could not be luck their own twelve against him. They could not be andrew luck. They're going to go from owen to two zero against the colts so i think tennessee light cleveland light the chargers like the jets viceroy playoff spot. I don't think it's man man overboard for indianapolis. I'll put him at eight. I think they're going to have. I think they're ceilings lower but i think this is a really good roster. I think they're going to run the football more tight. Ends are excellent. They upgraded wide receiver. They up get graded corner. It's really good roster and you go beaver set to big strong kits not special. He's not transformative. He's fine. He's been there. He knows the system so. I don't think this man overboard. I think they're going to lose those close games. Andrew luck pull out in the fourth but three times but they'll be fine. They'll be in that playoff picture week thirteen week fourteen jacksonville. I don't buy nick foles. I don't buy the organization do like tom coughlin six and ten thirty now you strong staff. We'll see if it's strong very high on the steelers. I liked that very high on pittsburgh. Best seen in the preseason doesn't mean they're the best team but they've they've been the defensive side of the football. They have been noticeably more athletic. Chris collins said at sunday night. He's like they don't want to say they look younger faster more athletic at linebacker remember they lead the n._f._l. And sax last year so this is a team that gets after the quarterback and protects their quarterback so tennessee a c. I thought looked overwhelmed against pittsburgh and tennessee's tough out being tennessee crushed new england dallas last year that game wasn't close that game was not competitive and that was a game of starters played for the first half so i like pittsburgh a lot t._j. Cushman's oughta is around the corner for us bucky brooks. We are loaded today on a tuesday. Be sure to catch. I live editions of the heard weekdays at noon eastern nine a._m. Pacific on fox sports.

"Polka dots joy. I am always dramatic fares so here. We have done this during we both love n._b._a. Free agency and then m._b._a. Free agency and we got about six weeks of kinda treading water right now. We're into football. Season like andrew lucked just retired. These are big boys stories. Cam newton got hurt and you know i do kind of summer n._f._l. Prediction segment but today. I got everything i need. All the starters are done playing in the preseason. I've got a retirement andrew lock an injury to lamar miller and cam newton. I have all the free agents in. I've seen enough of the good rookies like devin. Bush is going to be a real player. I've i've got hold out out still holding out. I do think zeke and melvin gordon will return so to me today. Hold me to these predictions. These are you're my n._f._l. Predictions now. I always get myself a day or a one change going into the season and somebody else retired but by and large what dominic do for the next seven or eight minutes maybe longer. These are my predictions of the n._f._l. Season i got all the information i need now. None of the stars are playing anymore. I don't think we're going to get key the injuries. I mean the jets offensive line starts haven't played any games so like people are just rest on their people so john here we go. Let's start with the n._f._c. I alright alright n._f._c. East philadelphia wins at eleven and five dallas battles to the end of the season for the playoffs at nine seven giants. I still think if eli starts you've got the third best quarterback in the division now at six and ten and washington's in a tween screener year at quarterback i have them at five and eleven i do think washington has some real players and i like jay gruden. I just think this is a bad spot for them. Listen philadelphia alpha when carson wentz returns in my opinion should be the favorite in the n._f._c. to the to the super bowl. They have a very good owner howie roseman. Perhaps the smartest g._m. And the league carson wentz is a special talent by year two. He was in the m._v._p. Race like patrick mahomes a doug peterson. Jason has surprised me his ability to step into this organization and win. Big games aligned d. line full of talent now i i do think by next year. They're going to have to start drafting on the old line again. They're getting a little long in the tooth. They do not have superstars in the running back but like new england just a lotta do everywhere. Let's go now to the n._f._c. west. I'll take the rams to win at ten and six san francisco to would be a very competitive nine and seven seattle five hundred eighty eight and arizona a wildly entertaining five and eleven. Let's start with the rams listen. They've got todd gurley is going to play less and i do think they're getting old on the offensive line..

"It wasn't the same show and and those are really talented people. There's just a limited number of great actors that really elevate the project are on and i mean it's a handful and there's just a handful of great quarterbacks. Aaron rodgers makes my sunday better andrew luck russell wilson patrick mahomes. Tom brady i. I mean the list gets thin after about seven. I think carson wentz could get there. I hope sam darnold gets their cross. My fingers onto shawn watson staying saying healthy like andrew. Leaving is not good for football. It's steve carell leaving even if you're replaced by james spader. It's not the same luck. Luck is an all timer so whenever i see these stories about tom brady listen i watched that i watched the steelers play the titans on sunday night on n._b._c. and i'm watching three quarterbacks big ben marcus mariota and ryan tannehill all competent. One of them is really fascinating to watch. I'll let you figure out which that is. If you want to root for tannehill in marietta marietta to call it quits all right. Don't you should want big like ben in this league until it's like all right forty two. He smoking cigars on the sidelines. It's a little past his prime. I just don't get the idea of i've had enough of brady. I just want good football. I don't care where it comes from. Just give me good football. Speaking of the patriots. They're center is a very very good player. David andrews and his season is now in jeopardy because of a blood clotting issue. It's very interesting because nobody in the n._f._l. N._f._l. Has a surplus of offensive lineman running backs tight ends linebackers there are there are some replaceable positions in this n._f._l. Tom brady is at this point of forty two forty two year old statue. This is not good news for new england and i've said this before. Is that if you told me i was an n._f._l. G._m. and i was rebuilding a franchise and i was going to draft and sign a bunch of players eta bunch of positions but i was guaranteed that seven positions one player at each would be great and i may on some free agent signings and i may whiff on the draft and i may whiff getting players but seven of them would end up being for my new team really good acquisitions. This is the order i would put him in quarterback. Great defensive lineman left tackle edge rusher center corner wide receiver receiver used to be running back. It's a new league. The center is in the middle of the field the the middle of communication. He sets protection. It is one of the most cerebral demanding positions in football and i said this for years people. Just don't get how valuable jeff saturday was to peyton. Manning jeff would put up with this crap. You could yell at jeff. Jeff would yell back at him jeff for smart jeff at a chip on shoulder peyton. Peyton was not an easy guy. They got in a lot of combative arguments and it was very in the end healthy. Tom brady not a lot of centers by the way when the when the players get released here and it's like the waiver draft..

"I heard all all sorts of people saying who are we to say this and who are we to do that. We're sports media and there's political media and there's tech media and we have opinions and and you don't have to like them. Don't tell me that all retirements are equal and that we should celebrate all players equally. I i will celebrate luck because i thought he inherited a tire. Fire took him to far greater heights than they deserved and now as living with some chronic current pain. I'm all in on him but let me throw this out to you. Kansas city patrick mahomes get to the super bowl. They're playing the philadelphia eagles and and patrick mahomes saturday night retire saying i can't take the stress. I are mentally exhausted. We all good with that. Leaders do not bail on the infantry heading into battle. This is why you ask when you draft a quarterback about mom tom in about dad and about family about cousins. How will you handle the money. How do you handle the stress. This is why we blame big. Ben for some of antonio brown's sounds pushback. We hold quarterbacks to different standards. We pay him more. We ask more brutal questions in the draft half process. This is why not all russell wilson joe buck calls the world series for us and enjoy buck calls the super bowl for us one of the reasons and there's thousands of great play by play guys in america. One of the reasons zain's we pay joe bat. Is we know four minutes before the first pitch. He's not going to go on freaking out on. I can't do this you pay. Hey for a lot of things for quarterbacks. Not just he's got a big arm and wow he can really run you pay for maturity and leadership or ship and toughness and guile and metal and durability and sometimes you don't get an a plus with all of those andrew luck's <music> retirement is justified based on what he inherited what he overcame and what he is now dealing with but if you look at the history of hall of fame quarterbacks they have one thing in common. It is not size. It is not arm strength. It is not mobility. It is not dominant in college hell half of them. We didn't even see playing called in his not you went in the first round around with all of them with no exception they were all great leaders and leaders don't bail l. on their men schwarzkopf to patent to kobe the michael abroad to brady day before battle unless unless unless like andrew luck it is justifiable physically which in my opinion it is but if andrew would a retired a couple of days ago because the stresa playing is too much he would have deserved criticism instead of deserving what he received overwhelmingly lee which was condolences for the injuries. We feel terrible for your decision. This is actually actually courageous. Go get a man. Not all retirement should be treated. Equally quarterbacks are defined signed by a leadership qualities and leaders should never if at all physically possible bail on a team right before the big mission. Let me switch to this so aaron. Rodgers talked about he's is obviously going to be a first ballot hall of famer super super talented guy he did not like how andrew luck was treated by the fans in indianapolis when the announcement came in late in the game. I thought it was pretty disgusting. On now. He's making a really tough decision and even before that you know he makes the decision. I don't know why that doesn't stay in house. We kind of protect protect them a little bit. Although when i think about it i thought it would have been more of a standing ovation type thing and a thank you than than oo <music> aaron era smart guy..

Excuse me eighteen gene surgeries in the n._f._l. Football at notre dame from california played in the n._f._l. Now broadcast or very good one he came out yesterday. He didn't like by the way this takes guts. That's because everybody's petrified of the twitter mob. Everybody is so p._c. Andrew luck for quitting in the n._f._l. He said his health and happiness for more important than half billion dollars he gave up again. He's not making five hundred million dollars michael moore. I don't know what the no parent i know. Let's their son play football so his head can be repeatedly bludgeoned by twenty fifty. This game won't even exist. I don't know what's more annoying michael moore coming in as a football expert or a health expert okay. You're you don't know nothing you know nothing about personal l. and just because you hang out with a bunch of super liberal millionaires that don't want their kid playing football doesn't mean football's not an amazing game. "And we were shocked by the stunning retirement the age twenty nine Andrew luck the Indianapolis Colts quarterback one estimate I read it a half billion dollars in four gone earnings your reaction might going to made it your top ten but your personal reaction to this young man saying I've got enough I'm not going to risk my health my personal reaction is that this present a massive issue to the NFL how dangerous indeed bill attending the sport can be hold it takes on top talents agenda and I were talking about this last night you reminded me of one of the great Green Bay Packers Brett Farr battled addiction to pain killers the talk about taking fifteen by the bike it in at one time taking a month's worth of pain killers in two days and so I think that the lock during the war you said that the joy had gone out of football the you're stuck in a cycle of the injury rehab injury we have the New York times on football a comma convulsant writing players of locks generation now make a loop whose calculation between help Christmas money and that's going to put them in conflict with team owners who always want more football not what and if you did a little more digging tomorrow you'll see that Andrew luck got crushed his first two seasons with the colts because they had a terrible offensive line to go back to Michael Lewis is great but the blind side and I'm watching Baker Mayfield were on the cover of the brands on the covers SI Odell Beckham junior Jarvis Landry and behind the Baker may feel and Nick Chubb we're gonna have a great year we had a very good offensive line after job attorney I was at left guard and I'm beginning to think that reading that Andrew luck story the brown should start trading draft choices to get in a line to protect their asset which is Baker may feel he's the whole club these everything and the reason Andrew luck is quitting with half the career of Roethlisberger and and one two fifths of the career of Tom Brady is because you don't have an old line it be it Michael Lewis is frightening still right this is a brown story is proof that all politics is local the the the ill the triumph of hope over experience has led me to have season I have my four on the fifteen people want them and I'm so excited about Mike Allen always a pleasure good Monday

"Players they sit in front of them microphones and do the dog and pony show he did was best for his family but in the back of their massa i say damn he just collected twenty million dollars and can still play football but here it is a sequel elliott is getting crucified through the media from dallas all the way to africa and you're telling me the best running back in football. They need to pay that man to gay. He should not play another down for the dallas cowboys. Amari cooper show hold out that prescott her hold hold up. It's just set a precedent to the national football on if you could pay a guy twenty four million dollars right to sit at home. You better pay the guy that wanted to play that can play the money right away. Let me tell you something right now. Here's where you and i do disagree though i have no problem with ezekiel elliott making getting his money because he deserves it because he's a star running back in the national football league. He probably the best there is right now. I don't have any problem of however him having the sweat shirt because the fact that the matters when you suspended for six games when you get called up to the commissioner's in his office on two or three occasions because you don't know how to act and you besmirch the franchise the way that he has by finding himself in those particular situations in the midst of dak prescott never ever missing the game being the quintessential leader that you're supposed to be who by the way is in the midst of contract negotiations with the cowboys himself. I have no problem problem. I don't have any problem with ezekiel getting his money but also have no problem with him having to wait for at least a few weeks. It doesn't bother me with this one. I'm elite league this one. The day arce said i'm gonna give you twenty four million dollars to sit at home. It don't matter what none of these players do anymore. You gotta pay the guy that's willing the play if you can sit at home with twenty four million dollars in the bank and this is a league that does not give guaranteed contracts. That's a slap in the play face face to every n._f._l. Player that ever played as plan right now in future play in the n._f._l. The deal you need to get. I mean somebody needs to say so. Damn jim irsay the owner for the indianapolis colts. That's who's to blame and i'm gonna tell you why you blame him because he did not do his job. When you got a franchise countable quarterback the likes of andrew luck you go go all out to protect him. You don't protect chuck pagano. You don't pretend ford g._m. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a check from an n._f._l. It was coats. He drafted an offensive lineman digital lock in basra it again before the seventh-round only three times. You've got to be kidding me. This is a franchise uh-huh protect them not nearly as well as you said. If you looked at a six four frame you looked at the two hundred and forty pounds you look you look at those tree trunks but thighs and legs and you're just assumed he would be all right. Would each drop back would each hit this. Man was withering away and grigson didn't do enough to protect him. That's why he's out of a job with the indianapolis colts. That's exactly why and as a result of it. This is where we are. Angela came into the league twenty twelve twenty fifteen. He was missing games. They twenty twenty six t was the last rated kidney twenty seventeen. He had to miss the whole season due to the shelter about a way not once but twice there was a a couple of soldiers surgeries he comes back last year. He wants comeback player of the year with frank reich as coach has his best completing completing percentage do for the second most yards in his career over forty five hundred ninety three do for the second touchdown his career with thirty nine had the greatest quarterback rating of this career ninety eight point seven had the greatest q._b. Off his career. At seventy one point five bolaise gentlemen almost telling stat was that he was sacked one hundred seventy four times in his career which means he was hit at least four hundred. Sometimes you can say whatever you want about andrew luck but the fact that that is that's a lot of punishment to take man. That's a a lot of punishment to take guys. Come in full speed at you and you don't even have an opportunity to brace yourself football. You got no time to brace yourself. You gotta just throw roll your body to the wolves and take those heads. That's what he was doing. Took a good look good licking. It was tough for him to keep on ticking off. Some of these hits a lot to take then now. You come in the training camp. I mean since april got a calf and you got an ankle injury. No o._t._a.'s c._a.'s training camps to kobe br assessment practicing with steve quite some time he's going through this. I can't blame andrew luck for his decision. Everybody wanna sit up there and engage in hyperbole aw takes a lot of courage blah blah blah now listen..
"andrew luck" Discussed on The Stephen A. Smith Show
"League two thousand completions out of thirty two hundred thirty two two hundred and ninety attempts completed sixty percent of his passes in his career to for twenty six thousand six hundred seventy yards in his career one hundred and seventy one touchdowns eighty eighty three interceptions. That's a better than two to one touchdown the turnover ratio a quarterback rating of eighty nine point eight five which is pretty damn good you now a lotta. People were very critical of andrew luck in his decision. Let me say this as much of a fan i a- as i am of r._g. Three the person person i was never a proponent of g. three going number one in the draft coming out of baylor over andrew luck. I knew he was stud. I went to his his game <hes> against u._s._c. in his senior year at stanford as last year stanford rather and he went up against u._s._c. at the coliseum. I was at that game when he dropped fifty five on him. I was there and i saw this dude in a per person. I knew what a study he was an andrew luck being this dude six four two hundred and forty pounds. That's what he's listed. As first year in indy plays all sixteen games god's them to an eleven five record a wildcard game second year played all sixteen games james gosden to another eleven and five record and a divisional playoff game third year eleven and five record god's them to an a._f._c. championship game that year he led the league throwing forty touchdowns and just sixteen interceptions does do written all over me at franchise written all over him and loved loved loved loved himself playing some football. That's what he was about. Andrew Luck's Retirement Highlights the NFL's Growing Problem
"Know what it wasn't long ago. I think it was last week when two weeks ago when mclovin said hey how about this poll question is andrew lock more likely to be an slight disappointment or hall of famer and this is when the ankle injury came. I remember it was the calf and then the owner robert say said i think it's an ankle and then i started to think there's more involved in this. There's more to this story. Sorry ben just glynn from the calf to a high ankle. I don't even i still don't know what he has but we know it serious enough that he announced his retirement and everybody's got an opinion on this. His decision to retire was a shock to the system for you know the the entire n._f._l. Nation when people say boy oy this is the most shocking football story we've ever heard i mean like new. No no no no how about we start with o._j. Simpson michael vick aaron hernandez. Those are shocking stories. Andrew looks different cat all right he is. He went back to college to get his degree. He could have left after his junior year. He went back to get his degree in architectural design. I believe he there are guys who are or football players and then there guys who play football most our football players j._j. Watt is a football player. Should he still be playing football. No no not at all but it andrew luck is a guy who is a guy who was good at playing football. I don't know if he's a a football guy and there's a difference in that but that doesn't mean he wasn't good at it or didn't love it. I just think that we're we're so unfamiliar. Oh you're with an athlete who uses logic where you go. What are you doing. Most football players in pauley had the analogy. Let's say you have a rock rock in your shoe. Most football players will continue to play in fact. Stop down on the rock. Where is andrew luck goes. How about. I just take the rock in my shoe. I mean it sounds logical. He just took the rock out of a shoe. Football players will tie the shoe differently like they'll somehow find a way. Hey i'll walk differently who care i'll take madison. Shoot me up. Whatever andrew lucked just said. I'm gonna take the the pebble <music> out. He's removing football from his life. Everybody has an opinion on this and when he started rattle off the list of injuries it makes a lot of sense but it's hard for us to imagine and by the way athletes are just commodities. We've moved on from all of these athletes. We don't care really don't care eric. Dickerson joined us in los angeles when we were out there and here's one of the great running backs of all time any looked great. I said the kind you look like you could give me a couple of carries. He said people don't realize the toll that this takes on goes. I slept in a reclining chair for two years because i had neck and back injuries. Nobody cares about eric dickerson's injuries. Nobody cared about jim. Mcmahon's injury his health. He thought about killing himself. We move on and andrew luck realizes that and yes he got paid paid and the reason for people to be upset and how do you do this to your team. And how do you quit on your team. I understand those emotions. I really do but i have to look at this and say andrew. Luck did what andrew luck thought he needed to do. Is it inexcusable to you know oh colts fans. Yeah i get that. I don't think he's saying boy. Watch what i'm gonna do. I'm going to set up the colts for failure now. I don't think i think that he had to process this. It took a long time. It's something you do you do well. It's your identity and maybe he doesn't want that is his identity and can you get away from this. You know the guys who had all the surgeries. I'm seeing all of this stuff here. Everybody's saying how do you do. I understand all of those emotions. Russians here but andrew lock did what andrew lucked thought he needed to do. If barry sanders was a quarterback and he walked away we would have abba bigger issue with what barry sanders did at age thirty-one calvin johnson at aged thirty. Jim brown age thirty. What are you doing walking away from the sport. Guess you've got a contract extension. There are a lot of questions. I have ranted you luck in this situation. When did you really know and when did you let the cold snow and what is the reason. Is there more surgery down. The road like you went through shoulder. You had and i put some of this on the colts by the way ryan grigson in particular the former g._m. What did i say for years. You have this investment. It's like having this unbelievable engine but then you have a car that's falling apart. You traded for trent richardson. You didn't use any lyman you finally went out and got quinton nelson and what happened. Andrew luck had the best season of his career. He had the fewest sacks. It's not something that takes a whole lot of thought. Hey how about we have a good offensive line. Chances are andrew. Luck might be able to play play a little bit longer but so many injuries and then you start to get down on yourself and you get in your head and you don't wanna go through it and and i look i couldn't play the game. I've told you if you ever watched a game on the sidelines. You never let your kids play. It is violent. It's more violent than you think because when you hear it you can close your eyes on the sidelines just listen. There's no way you go yep. I want to play play. I know we're macho. I know we all wanna play through pain. I did stupid things with my knee and my shoulder waited thirty five the years to get my torn rotator and i'm not even a pro athlete. I have an artificial knee because i was stupid when i played this guys out there and they're taking shots at him. He's getting hit lacerated kidney. He's got shoulder. He's got yeah. I understand all of these injuries. Do we want him out there. Yes because it's about us he. What are you doing to my fantasy team. Hey what you doing to my colds. You're you guys got a chance to. I understand hold loose things but this is something that we don't understand an athlete who says i'm gonna take a logical approach. He's a guy he's got a flip phone. He's got a book club. I mean he he's not your normal guy. Hi and we can't understand this. He's newly married. We can't understand this because all of us would go. I killed a play and make that kind of money and be a starting starting quite yes. This story is about us in how we perceive. This people didn't play wanna tell you they would play or how oh you need to play or. What's wrong with your your soft. You gotta take a step back and andrew luck. Doing i see all of this twitter chatter. Oh this is going to stay with him forever. I is very sanders. A quitter calvin johnson a quitter. Is jim brown a quitter right i. I haven't heard that i'd never heard somebody say. Jim brown's a quitter. Barry sanders quit walked down on the <hes> the lines how can you do. I guess andrew luck is a quitter but i'm guessing will move past this calvin johnson. Is he a quitter or see smart. I don't know i just i saw this reaction this vitriol that andrew luck how dare you do for this. He walked away from his team. I get i get it. He gave up on a sport. He excels at but no matter what people say. I think we can all agree. Andrew luck was outstanding when he did play and wishing luck and no pun intended with his life after football.

Andrew Luck retires: Colts' personnel moves forward with Jacoby Brissett
"The Indianapolis Colts in thirteen days face the LA Chargers went out Andrew luck and with your cover percept the guy for whom they traded Labor Day weekend at twenty seventeen he started fifteen games that year after being thrust into the mix with no opportunity to learn the offense no opportunity to learn the personnel no opportunity to learn the coaches everything's on the fly for Jacoby per set it was for an eleven which obviously is not an ideal record but he played well under the circumstances and remember twenty seventeen GM Chris Ballard was still trying to dig out from the mess that Ryan Grigson had made from two thousand twelve for two thousand sixteen in Indianapolis so I think there's reason for optimism as they move forward with your cover per set they have resisted all options and opportunities to trade burset elsewhere and now they have him and now he's the guy now Chris Ballard the guy who has compiled this culture Austin made the playoffs last year made the final weight has to cover percent he understands that the office will be different without interlocutors Ballard from Saturday night we're not gonna ask you go we were said to be Angela Angela was a unique unique player but you go we were set is is a winning football player initially and he is an apple I think your would you what Andrew said Cody said is a rare rare leaders he is he's a rare human being man I know look in that moment Chris Ballard needs to say something to inspire confidence in the locker room and beyond that the colts will rebound from this but look at what they rebounded from just in the past couple of years Josh McDaniels fails on a verbal agreement to take over as coach of the team following fifth Super Bowl fifty two bad stunner on a Tuesday night and we had a hard the rumblings that you know what McDaniels may not take that job after all and they didn't and they were covered and they pivoted to Frankreich and Frank Reich has ended up being the guy who maybe should have been at the top of the list from the get go and right there was a thing or two about moving on from disappointment about changing circumstances and adjusting on the fly right was the quarterback of that game in buffalo the comeback for the ages when the Orleans wrote thirty five to three it wasn't Jim Kelly he was injured it was Frank right it was Frank Reich who was the offense of coordinator the Philadelphia Eagles in two thousand seventeen when Carson Wentz suffered a torn ACL in the middle of December the kind of injury that would derail a team's playoff run they pivoted to Nick Foles the cobble together an offense that would work in light of his skills and they won the freaking Super Bowl with Nick Foles that was the final active Frank breaks career in Philadelphia's offense of coordinator he's not going to panic he's not gonna give in he's not going to give up it was three years ago that teddy Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL at a no contact practice it's always no contact quarterbacks just a week or so before the start of the regular season and Mike Zimmer said nobody's gonna shut down the season nobody's gonna cry force we just have to go forward it was not long ago we heard Frankreich explaining that he learned from watching Tony Dungy how to stay even keel in that setting how to be the call in the middle of the storm and the importance of that message sends to the rest of people the organization now since how possible Frank break knew what was coming so already was working himself into that state of call so he could be the beacon of hope and stability for the franchise because he knows that they're going to go into the season without interlock but regardless between Ballard who has put together a top flight roster couple of all pros not just pro bowlers but all pros that were rookies last year and continuing to build continuing to finesse continuing to make that team better and yes it makes that team worse not having interlock but there's a quiet confidence between Ballard and right and also what we've seen from the cover set I'm not gonna write the colts off at look people will write them off they will have no expectations the fall off the radar screen and and and now well one hand the division to the Jaguars with the Jaguars in the Texans act the colts I think we'll still be
McIlroy wins FedEx Cup, biggest payout in golf history
"Mcilroy smooth fifteen million dollars today when the tour championship for the second time in four years and that fifteen mill that he wins for winning the fedex cup. That's the largest cash payout in golf history. How's it going kepco was right there again till the end he bogeyed a couple of holes in the middle the back nine when roy birdie didn't that was that was a big four-shot swing so congratulations roy because he's getting a little short on cash steve with with the small little endorsement daily as he was the guy that was complaining kinda going <hes> salmon up the stream on the p._g. As new game plan here learn how playoff will work and going into the final tournament of the year that justice thomas starting with a minus ten like he's minus ten on the first i hole of the first day and that gives them a ten stroke lead on the guys at the bottom and so roy mcelroy is actually quite outspoken about that. I wonder if he's going to feel that way when they hand him that novelty cheque right now for fifteen million dollars
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retires from NFL
"The whispers around Indianapolis show that Andrew luck's decision to retire from the NFL in the prime of his career was not a sudden one one report said the team knew this was a possibility back in March and head coach Frank Reich echoed something similar noticing a change in his quarterback when you hear him talk about the cycle of pain and injury and re have you could feel that you could feel it take its toll so as Mr say Chris said tonight you know we celebrate we celebrate what he's done for this team the city and the game in general the season starts her Jacoby Brissett playing for his future as the colts QB is entering the final year of his rookie deal with Andy opening the season in two weeks against the
What just happened? Making sense of Andrew Luck's shocking decision
"You know what how is indeed going to remember Andrew luck's legacy in in his career what what is his era and his legacy going to mean to those colts fans one we now look back in hindsight well so great girl he had said he told us Jason that he actually believes that when we look at Andrew luck we're going to think about the things that he did not do he's going to be remembered for the things that he did not do versus the things that he did and that might sound harsh it might sound unfair at the moment but when you think about that it kind of makes all the sense in the world doesn't well I I do think it's Marcia and I do think it's unfair that if we step back for a second engine log your armored when he was come out of Stanford I had scouts in player personnel people telling me he was the group he was the best quarterback quarterback prospect since John Elway I mean I had several people independently say that to me at any comes in succeeding Peyton manning arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history mean we can go over Brady debate would go around around but if you take manning is right there and what does he do he picks up and gets his team into the playoffs he has great seasons pro bowls he gets hurt his body his body lets him down and I would certainly phrases but England out his body was in the NFL okay and you got hurt and he still after missing season came back I played with a lacerated kidney the playoff game and we're gonna remember for what he didn't do I get it Nick that's the waste that's we sports works in this country it's all about winning championships if you don't and if you walk away your brand the bomb but I don't look at him that way I look at a guy who you know what he made good on his promise but his body did not allow him to continue making good on it but I will look at the guys a failure at all I don't think that there's a difference to say that will remember him more for the things that he didn't do verses what he did then saying he's going to be bomb or a boss or a failure I think it's just looking back at his career and saying what could have been right because he is so so talented he has all the tools it's just looking back and saying them you know what if things fell into place what if he was able to stay healthy what if if he played until he was thirty five thirty six here is Greg Doyle's answer from the NBA star the J. since questions about how long would be remembered you're not gonna be remembered for what he did he can remember for what he didn't do what he left on dark even called quick message what's going to happen and it's a damn shame because he's he deserves better that I realized what he did I realize we did the scene I realize all that but this is not a sports story it's a human story this is a human
Colts star Luck announces shock retirement
"Andrew luck announces his retirement from the National Football League at the age of twenty on after seven seasons of citing various injuries lost nine games in two thousand fifteen and a lacerated kidney of dominant abdomen not a dominant injuries lost the entire two thousand seventeen season with a shoulder injury was trying to re having come back from an injury that Klay was diagnosed re diagnose an orderly new seem to be publicly Claire fly clarify what was the last night announced he was retiring the reason he announced he was retiring it was supposed to do it today according to Adam Schefter but then Adam Schefter had the tweet last night it caught fire went viral everyone knew about it including those at the game and the fans and those covering the game including Adam Levine visit ESPN play by play extraordinaire he was at the game broadcast in the game because he broadcasts every game and he's excellent and he was part of the bears broadcast of group last night in the preseason joins us now the shell pens or performance line Adam thanks sure doing this fourth buddy I just I I just like the how the sausage was made conversation you're in the broadcast booth what was it like when you got the news and just what what was the situation like up there in the press box yeah the it's it was surreal actually to kind of walk through all of this and a I think it's a good way to say about it so if the sausage how how the sausage is made kind of conversation we don't really get a lot of insight on this very often so it's weird to just be a part of it I was I it was only third quarter and I got a text from a friend of mine who's a reporter and she happened to just say Hey have you seen chapter sweet I know you're in Indianapolis well I won't be talking about so I'm gonna try to get my phone during a commercial break and I looked down and I find chapter and it says Andrew luck is retiring and the other this this is the tweet obviously went viral and blew up and and that's the thing that got the ball rolling on this show we're very lucky on preseason broadcast for the bears there is typically a lot of these preseason broadcast are produced by the teams they're they're not I'm not insulting them I just entered there are sometimes lower budget there you know it's only to broadcast rebroadcaster doing they're they're six or seven camera set ups we have a like CBS Sunday level of broadcast for the pre season my producer mark Wolfe has produced super bowls for CBS my my director Bruce Troy and his camera crew are outstanding and I've got Jim Miller in the booth next to me who knows the league inside and out so I feel very confident that we can talk about this so I get into talk back because you can talk your producer off the air and I told him Hey you need to see this chapter tweet and we might need to talk about it because we're here we're in Indianapolis and what I didn't know and I found out later in the post script was that the colts broadcast and I understand this whole you completely they they were not your basic barred from talking about it because they had a plan and and the team had had a plan on how they wanted to distribute this news you just said about they had a plan for Sunday they have this press conference but what Adam Schefter week much like you get a load to bomb a time that you get you get a Schefter bomb it's it's gonna spread through the league it's gonna spread fast and because the cold broadcasts wasn't really in a position to talk about it we've we've got national people on our broadcast for preseason game so we're ready to do this and we show Andrew luck we start seeing bands in the crowd because of our care a great camera crew getting all the shots there are people looking at their phone lying there people looking at their phone throwing their hands into the air there are people literally taking their Andrew luck jerseys off their bodies while they're looking at their phones well he's standing on the sidelines with is able to speak up watching this preseason game we're trying to talk about Tyler Brady and it's what the third string running back battle is like for the bears in the preseason while we're trying to balance this Andrew luck news with chapter tweeting about it and suddenly we dive into all holes the whole Andrew luck breaks down what is the injury what is the time line what is that's been like Jacoby percent wasn't starting which we already knew but I know a lot of people of that kind of surmise that that had a lot to do with with what was happening with large so we're just kind of talking about the ripple effect in and what you call the percent did as a starter a couple years ago and lost without so it just becomes an entire story almost based around Andrew luck and we're not we're not even a cold broadcast but we ended up being kind of the broadcast of record for it because again the Coltrane composition
Andrew Luck retirement: Here's hoping he finds peace and fulfillment in whatever is next to come
"Colts quarterback Andrew luck retiring played six seasons in the NFL he missed all of the twenty seventeen season made one A. F. C. championship games the forty four time pro bowler with zero Super Bowl appearances and there are some people as expected Joe on social media and elsewhere that are calling into like a botched I think he's a disappointment I think that's fair to say but I don't think you can call a guy who was predominately injured and then played well when he was healthy Abbas injure looks kind of like a bill Walton to me now I guess bill Walton did win a couple of championships including one with the Celtics when he was coming off the bench but he had his career defined by injuries I think that's more lock then putting him in that Ryan leaf Johnny Manziel category which I just don't think it's fair at all no no no no no I. V. kebab that would they they got to an AFC championship game he made pro bowls as you mentioned and if you can't shake the injury bug well that's a completely separate topic if you want to call it a disappointment you want to call it one of the great what ifs in sports not just football but just sports you know sometimes I always wonder what would have looked like if Ken Griffey junior could have stayed healthy throughout his entire career in baseball those I think are fair conversations but this business that he is some sort of a bust com on people let's step away from the Twitter machine for a little bit let's get away for that to think this through a little bit before we start talking that noise you know that that were just pops like it's an evocative word it's you have an emotional reaction when you hear it but I I do think that it's disappointing I I think he's one of the most hyped quarterbacks to ever come into the league and to see him with zero Super Bowl appearances on his resume at least for now I keep reminding myself tonight Joe that Andrew luck story may not be quite done here mom because you know twenty nine years old whenever you retire like rob Gronkowski retires similar age you know not not that much older than and you lock in everyone says the same thing just wait until November in ground pool plug himself back into the New England Patriots in here we go so I would not be shocked to see a lot get healthy and come back but tonight certainly he signed it sounded pretty resigned to the S. and like he had given it some serious thought and I imagine I can only imagine how the colts organization feels you know after preparing for a season where they thought they were going to be Superbowl contenders with one of the top G. M. as in the league in Chris Ballard all of a sudden they have Jacoby per set as their starting quarterback after luck made the announcement colts owner Jim Irsay gave his reaction to Andrew luck's retirement right now we're just thankful about what Anders meant to this city I know a lot of a lot of range of emotions go through our fans and and that's a a natural thing that we can all relate to it was something obviously that we are hoping that might be something that that could have went a different direction but if he had a file is hard and and that's what he did and so again we have nothing but gratitude and thankfulness for for the blood sweat and tears you spill the as number twelve and part of our hearts broken and I

"Well fits is out again, believes on vacation. I don't know. Maybe he was hosting eleven other shows today. It's hard to keep track, but the good news is as always I have another co host with the last name starting with f in Nick, free Dell. So it Spain and fits with free del filling in on ESPN radio, the SPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty. And both of us were at Pearl Jam last night, but we managed to check out all the big highlights and news stories from Monday night football. Andrew luck back out on the field again. And you know it was funny because we kind of fell in love with Andrew luck. When we got the mic'd up segment of him, thinking dudes after they hit him and saying, you know, great, greeted sizzle, you got me that time, you know, and then there are sorry, man, it's okay. Dude. It's football, right? And we were all like, who is this guy? Just, you know, chatting it up after dude, sacrament and destroy men. We got a little more of that. Andrew luck again last night. Here's what he had to say. After he took a huge hit from the angels wonder Terrell suggs and had everybody gasps. Wondering if it would affect his injured shoulder. Here's Andrew luck too. Happy to have been sacked by, you know, saga and a legit like sack because I go, I landed on my right elbow, sort of reminiscent of what how I injured my shoulder many, you know a couple years ago and I didn't feel anything didn't didn't give it a second thought. So I think in, I think that's actually a big deal for me, you know, and being able to sort of lose that thought bubble if you will, he's such a lovable goofball nerd weirdo when he was like legitimate all sack. Honestly, that was one of the most positive parts of the game. Nick, which I guess doesn't say much about how the rest of it went, but to see him out there taking a hit and pop back up and getting back into it. He's the nerdy lovable goofball in everybody's lights there. Everybody's got a friend like Andrew luck at some point in time. But yeah, as far as the game goes, you need him too. Get over that mental hurdle, you need him to feel like, you know what I took the best somebody could could offer. I got up. I brush myself off. I kept rolling. Andrew luck when he is right is one of the very best quarterbacks in the league. He just hadn't been healthy fully healthy last couple seasons. So you're, you're questioning everything. He does at this moment and Sarah, he's questioning if he can do it and how he can do it the same way. So it's a very positive thing for him in for anybody to get their preseason game. Feel unhealthy is the key throughout the league, but for Andrew luck specifically given what he's gone through to have that experience and get up at the great son luck just six of thirteen passing for fifty yard ten interception. He was sacked twice in twenty three plays, but worth noting. There were a handful of really important guys. His lect left tackle most notably out, and it's been an issue since he got. There the protection and so has been his decision making that injury. He got was on a play where he didn't need to take the hit or or or the not this injury, but the last rated kidney memory at last rated kidney. And so he's a guy that needs to protect themselves better in part because he doesn't have great protection. Of course, we need to wait and see how some of those offense of weapons and offensive protectors when they're back, helped that situation. And it's always hard to tell in the preseason exactly what you got your. You're more looking at mechanics with them right now. And we haven't seen from him at all is a deep bowl and the play where he got sacked by subs was supposed to be a deep pass. That's what they had called the. But his fill in left tackle was a little slow, getting around the edge there to get this sucks. And, and so we still don't know what what it looks like for him trying to push that deep ball and you know the first team offense had a total forty four yards can't really gain much from watching that in terms of what he's able to do..

And I said this before the draft, everybody was like, oh, I said, this is going to be Tibo both T-Bone the more Jackson profoundly popular in college. They win a Heisman, both mechanically don't throw the world's greatest ball in college. Both have great offensive coaches in college. Bobby between for Lamar urban Meyer for Tibo that mask an elevate sort of average throwers both get overdrafted in the first round and both are in proud franchises Baltimore in Denver, with loyal fan bases that won't wins. And you go to game losing streak, and they're chanting t. Bo mar. This is this is exactly he. I've watched him now for three games. The he is exactly the player. I was told. He would be by all three scouting directors. I talked to first round changes everything for the owner for the fans for the media. Let me shift to this ever take a two week vacation and you come back and it just takes you a couple of days to get back into rhythm at work. And by the way you're good at work, whatever you do at work, you're a sales person you're in, you're an engineer, you are a vice president of marketing. You're good at what you do, but you go in that two week vacation. Just two weeks. I'm not saying a month. I'm not saying summer you come back on that Monday. Not quite these things. Tuesday, you're like getting them by Wednesday. You're okay. That's just for a two week vacation and you're good at what you do regardless of what you do. Andrew luck did not throw a football for a year and a half. Now. I mean, he's. Defensive lineman, throw footballs in practice. Angela couldn't throw a football for your half. He's a quarterback. Andrew luck this year is going to be good because he's an all time town not going to be MVP. He may not do to Shawn Watson, be the best quarterback this year in his division. You cannot go from doing something for years, twenty four, seven, and then go to total inactivity for an extended time and come back and just be great. You and I take two weeks off. We come back. We're rusty. He took a year and a half off from not throwing a football enter, looks going to be good this year. He'll be a borderline Pro Bowl this year, but he's got a new coach, new playbook, and I don't know, hasn't thrown a ball in a year and a half. Michael Jordan took a year and a half off in a sport which is easier to get into basketball shape than football shape. Football shape is weightlifting. You got to build up calluses gotta be able to take the heads you get. It's a precision sport, especially if you're a quarterback Michael Jordan Leifer year and a half came back for a seat. Season and shot forty one percent lowest of his career including his last year in the NBA when he was an old man and couldn't jump..

He'll be a borderline Pro Bowl this year, but he's got a new coach, new playbook, and I don't know, hasn't thrown a ball in a year and a half by the way, Michael Jordan's the greatest basketball player. Most people think of all time. I don't think he's number two, but I understand those who think he's number one. I don't need to argue about it. Michael Jordan took a year and a half off in a sport, which is. Easier to get into basketball shape than football shape. Football shape is weightlifting. You got to build up calluses. You gotta be able to take the heads you get. It's a precision sport, especially if your quarterback Michael Jordan Leifer year and a half came back for a season and shot forty one percent lowest of his career including his last year in the NBA when he was an old man and couldn't jump. Now the following year, Michael Jordan shot fifty percent and was the MVP the league, but you can't go twenty four, seven something for years. Even if you're like, Michael Jordan, go to total in activity. He goes to baseball, comes back. He wants the same guy. He was a forty one percent shooter in Michael OAS hovered around fifty by the way, Tom Brady same thing member, Tom Brady, two thousand seven, Tom Brady throws four fifty touchdown passes. Now at the time it was like the all time record write fifty touchdown passes. They breaks his leg and then Tom Brady comes back totally healthy. And he's like a twenty eight touchdowns thirteen picks. Passer rating in the mid ninety s and he was okay. And the following year, Tom Brady went to Super Bowl. He's amazing. He's MVP. Okay. I'm talking Michael Jordan and Tom Brady unbelievable forces leave come back and they're good, not great. Then a year later they're back to being dominant. Andrew luck is probably the best young quarterback I've seen in this league since like like Dan Marino John Elway like walked into the league. You're like, holy wa house. He wouldn't eleven games with that roster. He was unbelievable, and then he got the, you know what kicked out of him. And then he couldn't throw a football for a year and a half. And I watched last night and I thought he'll be go this year because Michael Jordan's still, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady still, Tom Brady, and Andrew luck st- still Andrew luck..

"Go to Lowe's. What what pros us brands like Purdy and Cabot trusted by pros. All projects have a starting point start with Lowe's. By the way our best for last today. I love because it makes me sound smart and I and I always felt this is true. So let's go to it after almost three hours. Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point yet quit hold now. Out on us coward it's best for colts head coach, Frank, right? Eagles last year. Now the colts quarter coach is expected to start. Andrew luck in the first preseason game. He's ready to go. He's practicing. I have been saying this for years. I think being a Colt quarterback is the toughest job in the National Football League. Just a recap it Andrew luck with the number one pick in two thousand twelve when eleven and five, eleven five, eleven and five. And then he missed two thousand fifteen part of it. Due to injuries, he missed all of last year. He just got beat up. Here's how rough it is. The most hits taken per game quarterback since twenty twelve Andrew luck leads the league. Now you may be thinking, well, that's an Andrew luck problem. He runs around too much. She doesn't throw the ball away await. The most sacks taken last season cold quarterback. Jacoby perset who further records is athletic and moves a little bit. Light luck. The first step in fixing a problem is in meeting you have a problem, which is why I defended the colts for taking two guards in their first three picks. A lot of people thought it's it's not a glamor position. There is a reason they went with guards because Andrew luck and Jacoby Bruce sat on that interior pressure colts think they're tackles are okay. And that's about what they are. They're okay. But when they got criticized for not fixing the defense, say it again. I don't think it's complicated when you build a house. The next thing you do is insure it. If you're gonna build an NFL franchise, if find a quarterback, you build the offense of line than the defense, why Seattle in trouble. They built a defence, found the quarterback, ignored the ofensive line. That's why Pete Carroll's in trouble. In the final year of his contract, you find your quarterback. You don't go to your defense. You don't go to your event. Yes, Saul the offense line your number one asset quarterback. You protect your number one asset with insurance offense of lines insurance for your number one asset then go fix your defense..
