Climate and Floodwaters Are Top of Mind for Some Iowa Voters

"Number one issue for Democratic voters in this presidential election season is healthcare but trailing a close second is climate change morning edition host. Rachel Martin it has been reporting an Iowa this past week ahead of the caucuses and she spent some time in the city of Davenport Mississippi River. The city was the site of record breaking floods last spring. How does the rising river in the threat from climate change affect how people vote? Here's what she found out. You talked to enough business. Owners down by Davenport's riverfront and you quickly quickly realized that pretty much. Everyone has a flood story. I got a call from my sister in law. That said I drop the kids off. I have to go downtown. The levee broke all the water started coming through the drains. And I get down here and we had four and a half feet in her basement. It was coming up to our doors and we just started sandbagging. It just caught my eye and then I went. Oh my God the weavers coming in that last voices Tim Baldwin. He owns an upscale pub right on the waterfront. Dan Bush runs another restaurant a few blocks away and we met them at low pies. Pizza joint. Andrew Lopez is the owner there. Margarita a really chill are red red sauce. It's got a really nice kick to it so you really don't need much with it. All three of these guys took a financial hit after the flood last year but they were the lucky ones. Some some of the businesses around the area had to shut their doors for good. I mean here. You are sitting couple of hundred feet away from the riverbank right over there so do just write this off or do you expect that this is going to keep happening. I think we're forced to take it seriously. That's Dan Bush. After the disaster he started a coalition of business owners to advocate for better flood. Prevention Science shows shows that this is gonNA progressively get worse uh-huh and that we actually didn't it didn't get as bad as it could have got this year The last big event was a nineteen ninety-three. Don't expect it to be another twenty five twenty seven years before it happens again affects your hearts about climate change and your political choices Andrew. I think it's a big deal and it's been getting worse and worse every year so I think it's signed the take a step forward in China or something about it. I you know I love these guys but we have a different political views. Where's the difference? Well the climate change as we hear about it every day through the national media media. I don't believe is our problem. I believe climate changing and I believe climate's been changing since the inception of this planet. Right all I know is what is obvious is to me and that is when it rains. Water has nowhere to go except to the Mississippi River but is it. Is it related to what driving cars I and eating beef. I'm not convinced of that. Damn I think this event definitely made me think more about climate than ever had in my life but Yeah I think we're at the point. Where the cause is not the conversation? It's okay we tim and I agree. It's happening now. How do we handle it? Their answers for that question are are different too. It's GonNa Shave Danny political choice this year. He says he'll caucus for Elizabeth Warren for lots of reasons including her plans to fight climate. Change Tim on the other hand and is a conservative. His primary issue isn't climate change at all it's the economy and he's voting for Donald Trump. We say our goodbyes. Then walk back along the river. We take a right near retail shops and eventually find our way to e second street where we meet any stop-loss. We've got a lot going on right now. So so that's why it's this. Andy runs trendy. Men's clothing store just a couple blocks from the river. I mean the whole community came together and it was. We were knees deep in water. I see and bagging all this area to protect you know our space power you preparing for the inevitability of it happening again. Since I've lived here we've only had one really really big flood And it was when I was young. I don't remember it so historically the are not very high but when you think of the environment the effects and everything that is included what's happening. The chances are a lot higher. Do those issues motivate you politically absolutely. She doesn't want to say who she's going to caucus for Monday but her fiance Kayla is all in for Elizabeth Warren. She's worried about our children and our children's children and what the environmental merriment earth is going to be like at that point because have kids. No we're yesterday. I got my apartment. Were Planning on it. Yeah in time a year. You're after the flood. Anne and Kayla are looking to the future like so many others. We talked with here and after tomorrow's caucuses they'll have a better idea of what that future might look like.

It's always a pleasure. Thank you very much as always, you gotta John. Thanks a lot. John maclean. Joining me on the show topic. Topic topic boom boom, boom John's grade on that stuff. Awesome. All right. Any thoughts on anything? John had to say eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven that was a big topic here in Houston throughout the week. And I'm curious if you're in another city that has similar needs. And we say needs Texans don't necessarily a need it wide receiver. But that was the big topic here is in trying to get weapons for Shawn. Watson. Would you rather? Sign Levy on bell or trade for Antonio Brown. Probably wouldn't have to break the Bank trading for Antonio Brown in his contract is extremely team friendly for the team that winds up getting him. The Steelers are the ones who take it in the shorts. Trading Antonio Brown because they take a dead money. Cap hit of twenty one million dollars. So they'd have to take twenty one million against the cap to get rid of the guy. Antonio Brown is probably better at his job. The last five years, then Levy on bell has been at his all the Levy on bell has been great. But then Tonio Brown has been the best receiver in football. The last five or six straight years of one hundred or more catches first guy to ever do that in the history of the league. So I'm curious if you're in a city that theoretically could use what team couldn't use Antonio Brown. But also, we're running back is a position of Mead. Would you rather trade for Tonio Brown or sign levian bell? That was that was a big talking point here in Houston throughout the week. Whatever city you're in eight five five two one two four CBS. "Anthony Davis stuff. Andrew Lopez is our guest at the New Orleans. Pelicans beat writer for the times pick a unit in New Orleans. You can follow us work on Twitter at underscore. Andrew underscore Lopez heart Intersil, you just retweeted something about a half hour ago. The pelicans have reached out to the Celtics, and they are seeking promises on specific Anthony Davis packages at this next sentence doesn't surprise me at all the Celtics have been reluctant to do that five months early. This is a really tricky situation. Just talk about this from the pelicans management, and how difficult do you think of a position Anthony Davis put them in a couple of weeks ago when he said they were not going to say he was not going to sign their term. You know, the one thing that Anthony Davis, dude, when he made it, you know, public so early was he didn't like you said put them in a in a in a kind of a precarious situation. Obviously, he has a target in mind. You would like for them to trade into the Los Angeles Lakers. But. It seems like the the pelicans you don't wanna do that. And now, you would think that that would hurt the value of it. However when Boston can get in the mix and the summer, whoever gets the number one pick if that's New York can get in in the summer, maybe the Los Angeles Clippers can now get in a lot of that kind of changes in terms of where the value comes from. So you may not be you won't get the Lakers deal where you're you're basically offering twelve players six picks and six player actual players or anything Davis. But you're going to get quality guys in your hoping the one of those guys Jason t-that when you're hoping for a promise on that soon as I was thinking as I was saying that I was thinking to myself, you know, what maybe Davis almost did the pelicans a favor, you know, he'd been there. What five six years, and he didn't want to move on? I think communication is good thing in any kind of relationship a boyfriend, a girlfriend, friends, it doesn't matter. So if Anthony Davis he was just being honest. He said, look, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sign here. So this could could I make the argument that this gave the pelicans basically the opportunity to get the. The Lakers best offer whatever that may be the get their best offer before the trade deadline just so they know they can ask for the Lakers. Best offer. Could I make the argument that Davis actually did him a favor? The the one place where David did do them a favour without a question. What's he made it right before del Dem's was probably going to sell? The pelicans first round pick to get a some sort of asset back to try and help make the playoffs this year. Whether that was selling it for renting parents Ross or whoever you were gonna make that deal for he did help them in that regard. But you also could have still kept it could've told the pelicans. Hey, I'm not gonna resign. Start looking at deals, and then you don't think you would have gotten the best appeals deals from everybody, especially if Boston was putting Jason Tijuana table that Los Angeles doesn't have a singular asset. I think that is viewed higher or viewed better right now. So I still think you would have got the. The best offer from the Lakers. If Jason Tatum was on the table that was going to be my next question. Andrew Lopez is our guest in. Well, it's pelicans beat writer for the times pick you out New Orleans. You could follow his work on Twitter at underscore, Andrew underscored Lopez. So that's my next question is Jason Tatum. The best singular asset on the table. I think it's a very tricky situation because Anthony Davis did come out with this list of teams that he would side along with the box. You have the Los Angeles Clippers the Lakers. You have the Knicks Danny aines, though from people that I talked to and just what it's known. I think he's going to be aggressive. He's going to make an offer. So from that from the pelicans point of view, it doesn't really matter. What Anthony Davis is list is right at the Celtics come in and bring the best offer you're gonna take that offer. No matter what the list says it didn't matter to Indiana. What Paul Georgia's list was it didn't matter to San Antonio? Kawhi Leonard was and it's not going to matter to the New Orleans pelicans. What Anthony Davis? That's how it's going to play out. Del dumps the general manager of the of the pelicans for for right now is a disciple of the San Antonio Spurs system. He he is playing this by the Spurs mentality. He's not going to give into Los Angeles just to give into Los Angeles to send Anthony Davis to his intended spot. He's going to do the best deal for the team. And if that's a number one from the Knicks where you could possibly die on and restart a new with a fresh superstar. So be it. If that feeling it to the Boston Celtics and getting Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and maybe a couple of picks back then that's what he's gonna do. You know, you have Los Angeles injure back pocket doll for they put on the table. Just now may not be what you get in the summer, but you also probably taking back asset that you absolutely did want you maybe didn't want all five of those. If you get an offer in the summer from Los Angeles. Maybe it's what you wanted. Instead of all these extras that you have to cut or a move or send elsewhere in multiple other deal. What do you think is what we're talking about value for obviously when it comes to the that's the word value value. So I look at. Value in a couple of different ways, the Celtics if you look at it just for the player point of view, they have a trio of guys. Jalen Brown, Terry Rozier, and Jason Tatum. And then you have a trio of guys that Los Angeles with Lonzo ball, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram. So I have said over the last week that I think there's more value in the Celtics guys not just because I think the individual player the best individual player there Jason Tatum. I think it could make a case for calculus. But he's averaging eighteen points. A game is the lights out three point shooter. But I think Jason Tatum in my opinion. I think it sounds like yours is the singular most valuable asset. But also the Celtics players. These guys went to an Eastern Conference finals last year. They have playoff experience being the guys that to me has incredible value outside of these guys individual talent. Thought out there that I've heard from MBA circles that some people think that this is this is what who's going to be in his career. He never gonna make the jump to be at twenty five point nine guy. He's going to beat this level of guy Ingram you worry about him getting stronger, you worry about his shot. I think right now. Julius Randle any Anthony Davis have both made more three pointers that season. Wow. Yeah. Jason Tatum on the other hand shot. Forty three percent from deep last year. I've seems getting a little bit more open books show. He's down thirty seven thirty eight this year, but he he's still the best asset. And then there's also possibility in that sort of deal. You also send Marcus hardback who is I think twelve thirteen fourteen million over the next three years. You're gonna end up having one of the best defensive backwards in that game. If you pair, Marcus smart with your day. And and I know that is something that when they were talking about Lonzo ball having Lonzo through really kind of something. They were looking forward to having that. So to me, I think it's I liked it because the the package. The Celtics better. They know how to win that for the Lakers guys. Just yet. I think they're they're more well put together, and I also know the pelicans you don't wanna go through situation like they walk through when the Hornets treated, Chris Paul, and you got Eric Gordon Chris came in and Alpert of new three guys did not want to be an oil. They want guys who want to be here and are not not necessarily want to be here. Long term. Jason Tatum expansion stay here for ten years. They want guys who want to be here for the short term. And now we've got a better going to play for Angie. Lopez is our guest, and well, let's pelicans beat writer for the times pick you and you can follow his work on Twitter at underscore. Andrew underscore Lopez. Yuping in New Orleans, I was just into Orleans last weekend for my birthday. I love that town. I think it's great. It's a great city. Why is there this thought out there, and I've heard this with the saints? And I'm here with the pelicans now from you, why is there this thought out there that New Orleans is not a a destination kind of town for younger prospects to want to be. I had a great time. Man. I'm twenty eight years old. I had a great time in New Orleans. I would think. The fun place to be as a young athlete. I'm glad you decided to come down here where where we appreciate I wish more people felt that way. I don't know why. Basketball is that when you when you step back and look at everything the thing's kind of changing it because obviously they're having success right now. The pelicans have not had the same success under del dams. When you when you looked at it you've been? Flipping up with Dell Umeda three playoff appearances since he's been here things have not gone smoothly. There's also the perception out there that that they are the kind of second class organization behind the New Orleans Saints at how things are frame it in part because. Has the title of executive vice president of basketball operations for the telephone. So many people think well, why is a football guy baking the basketball? Minimize the only steps into big situations. Like that as part of the brain trust of the ownership. He has no real say the day to day operation. But I do think that agents is being spun of they don't care the second rate. Please don't go there when it's really a a little bit different. But I do think that that idea will change come this off season that that will change the dynamic will change if I can give pelican's fans a little bit of a silver lining here. Don't you think that the hall back for Anthony Davis to the pelicans is going to be better? I mean, obviously, Victor Oladipo was the player and the Pacers. I honestly, I don't think many people saw that coming based off what Victor did in Oklahoma City that I think you can attribute to just real shortly real luck for Indiana. But right now on paper, I mean when the deals are happy they're going to get something better back for their superstar than the Spurs did for Kawhi Leonard and the Pacers for Paul George. I think if you're a pelicans and say, look this sticks small market team for whatever reason people don't wanna come here. That's fine. People don't want to stay here. Anthony Davis doesn't want to stay here. But. I think this whole back is going to be better than what the Spurs and Pacers got back when those traits initially went down. Do you think that's fair? Absolutely. You go back and you look at the Paul George strait. And you really like they got lucky. I mean, nobody thinks saw that sort of lead from people coming everybody thought they were going to be a leap. Okay that he was gonna make it. He didn't have you know, he was kind of not used properly in Orlando in Oklahoma City. It was a little bit off this because Ross was dominating the ball. But he really was able to flourish in Indiana. Kawhi you were able to get a perennial all star into Marta Ruth. And you're going to be able to get more than that. I think for Anthony Davis, and what they want back they want. You know, a first second thirteen guy who can make all NBA, and they see that and Jason Tatum. That's not something that they've seen. And maybe some of those other guys, you know, Jason Tatum has has that star power right away. And you know, I it's hard to argue with that Andrew. In a minute here fit. Final question. Appreciate the time. Do you as bad as this is do you do the fan base? Do they understand Anthony Davis point of view? They don't have to like it. They don't have to agree with it. But do they understand at least why Anthony Davis? You know, he's been there five six years, whatever it's been they haven't been winning do they at least get why Anthony Davis is making the decision. He's making absolutely the initial the initial response to it was more of not not any hate for Anthony Davis. Kinda spit towards the the pelicans organization for for screwing it up, essentially. Right. They they didn't really appreciate that. They didn't like it. That was called for Dell. There was called for Alvin to lose their jobs. But the thing that they don't seem to understand why he's still around if requested a trade from this t-. Yeah. Go away. And that's something. We're we're fans are starting to turn it on a d a little bit because he's still here. Well, he's collecting a paycheck. He's still there. So obviously, there's the story that came out today that he's not going to play a up until the trade deadline. What do you think? Like, what do you think the response is going to be if the pelicans do play him in a home game after the all star game? It's not to be pretty now..

I know that there was some ground swell for LeBron's camp. Removing Luke Walton as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Well, more of these forty two point losses and the camp may not have to do any work is a million excuses that we can come up with the travel. First name coming across. Trade all everything else. But bottom line with better. And we will be okay. If you say so right now, it's yeah. It's a bunch of distractions at a bunch of guys who win they're standing on the free throw line are hearing fans and other stadiums or other arenas say lebrons wants to trade. You LeBrun wants to trade you that's the kind of chance. I mean, let's give the fans points are being creative. But that's what these young guys are hearing. And they're wondering when is the phone going to rank to indicate that I've been traded to some other franchise that's what they're dealing with right now. And if you haven't seen the photo of the Lakers bench from last night's game. Chris put it up on social media after our CBS just look at where LeBron is sitting and where the rest of the team is sitting it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Now does look like the pelicans are extremely reluctant to make a trade with the Lakers before the deadline. They've raised the ass. Asking price so high that the Lakers can't possibly meet it. Well, they could. But they know better. Finally, don't do it Lakers. So then what what did the pelicans do with Anthony Davis? The rest of the way it was a question. I posed to Andrew Lopez ties picky when he joined us the first hour of the show, and I said to him what is Anthony's playing status. Number two. I feel like throughout this this day. You could do that at three separate days. Nobody giving you three separate. Right now, he is listed as questionable to play on Wednesday night in Chicago, which is mind boggling to me. I I don't see why he would suit up for the rest of the year for these last twenty eight twenty nine games make the playoffs. Are you think they should sit him the rest of the way? Oh, yeah. Wow. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Would there is no value to me in playing Davis? The final twenty eight games of the year. If you're the pelicans one, you're six or seven games out of the playoff. You have to jump teams like the kings. The Lakers even the Mavericks are headed right now. I think the timber wolves are headed right now you have to jump five teams back into playoff. At work. If you play anything Davis. He hasn't been the model of health throughout his career. I ever played only two games in a season. Just last year. The pelicans you remember one step by boogie cousins off of miss free. Throw completely changed your franchise. When you think about it because he doesn't get hurt last year. He signing a max deal in the off season that you're gonna put on the table in the Nathan Davis and even thinking about going anywhere. I just can't imagine I get that. They might be a little more nervous because of the boogie cousins injury year ago, but that can happen stepping wrong in your backyard. I mean there are freak injuries. You're just going to not play in the final twenty eight games of the year. Andrew Lopez the full conversation from New Orleans on our podcast after hours, Amy Lawrence dot com. There is one player that the pelicans desperately covet. And they believe they might be able to get that deal done in the off season. Now, we did have some breaking news overnight. But it wasn't breaking news until after the clippers beat the Charlotte Hornets in a close finish. Number one Tobias up top was seventy shoot he goes to the foul circle of Fowler. "Made coups Ma eat it such a great call from Mark Boyle. I mean, you can envision it. Right. That's what radio play by play is all about on the Pacers radio network. I know that there were some ground swell for LeBron's camp. Removing Luke Walton as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Well, any more of these forty two point losses and the Cape May not have to do any work is a million excuses. The travel. Cross country trade all everything else. "Media. I know all those young guys loves social media. I mean, I'm pretty sure I saw LeBron tweeting on Super Bowl Sunday, stay off social media. Tobias Harris, by the way, a couple of hours ago after he got traded to Philadelphia tweeted, a gif I have no idea how to interpret it Chris. That's your department. So if you wanna go on social media and see this gift from Tobias Harris, it looks like something out of. What was that show with Will Smith back before he was like super famous in Philadelphia prince of Bel-Air, right? So fresh prince of Bel-Air, it looks like they're out on a playground, and it's Will Smith and the fresh prince of Bel-Air, I got you covered. So it's from the theme song. Okay. Wine in the theme. Song is my life got switched turned upside down. So he's referencing that as him getting traded, Chris why you make the big bucks. I mean, you should see the red face. Chris has right now. It's fantastic. Thank you for that. Could you please read tweet that and maybe you can tweet the light along with it from our show account after our CBS so Tobias Harris has not buying into all this the young guys to stay off social media because he took to social media to let everyone know that he is leaving Los Angeles actually was leaving Charlotte. Because that's where the clippers were last night. He's leaving Charlotte. And he's joining Philadelphia. So it's not the big l a blockbuster trade that a lot of people were expecting when they went to bed. Maybe you thought you'd wake up and Anthony. Davis was a member of the Lakers. We'll get to that momentarily. But instead it's Tobias Harris who's having a career year in points in rebounds in says right now averaging nearly twenty one points per game. And he is in the final year of his deal. So this was interesting. There are a bunch of players that are changing teams a lot of that is about the NBA name the salaries to balance output, also guys that. Guys that maybe have expiring contracts and the two teams agreed to have this. You know, these players move, and blah, blah, blah, the big pieces Tobias Harris and two future first round draft picks. So those are essentially the the the pieces that form the framework of this trade Tobias Harris from the clippers to the Sixers to join a lineup. That already includes Ben Simmons. Joel Embiid JJ Radic and Jimmy Butler wonder how Jimmy will take to having a new kid on the block. Interesting. So that's the latest news that happened about three hours ago. Not even we were on the air when it happens about two and a half hours ago. We brought you that breaking news. Maybe not the trade you expected, but it's the one that has been agreed to from Los Angeles. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS sports radio eight five five two one two four two two seven. That's our toll free line. You can find me on Twitter a law radio. But actually, it's better. If you go to our show Twitter because Chris Chris killed this gifts. He interpreted Tobias Harris and his tweet at his gift, and it's awesome. I'm going to read tweet it now and also on our Facebook page. So he here's what we know about Anthony Davis. The pelicans have raised the the asking price so high that not even Magic Johnson. Lebron James and Rich Paul think this is a good idea in good conscience. They can't even give what the pelicans are asking, which is essentially seventeen players and picks combined. I mean, it's insane. But the pelicans are doing it on purpose. It's pretty obvious. They don't want to trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers at least not before the deadline. Now, we had an amazing conversation with Andrew Lopez the times picayune in our first hour he covers the pelicans. And he believes he knows what they're waiting for. Not only can more players get involved more teams, excuse me. But yes, more players more teams can get involved. But there is one particular player that they're really hot for. I'm gonna have you go and listen to our podcast. You can get that after hours, Amy Lawrence dot com. You're looking for Andrew Lopez pelicans insiders, so there's one particular player that they believe could be a cornerstone for their team. And it's not a player on the Lakers. So that begs the question, then and this is something that blows me away. If they do not trade Anthony Davis, which it appears right now, they will not do before Thursday's deadline if they do not trade him. What do they do within the rest of the way? We've had this great debate on the show already because. There's this growing support for benching Davis the final twenty eight games of the year. Are you kidding me? You're going to pay the guy twenty five million dollars for the rest of his twenty five million say roughly a third of that. And he's going to sit the rest of the way. If you're worried that will get hurt in a game. Aren't you worried? He might suffer the same fate in practice. So what do you do you? Sit him literally the rest of the way in bubble wrap on the end of the bench. A suit disguises bubble wrap. And he doesn't play. He doesn't practice. Every time I say this Dave nods his head on the other side of the glass. So I know how Dave feels I've asked this question multiple times for various stages of our show and he nods his head every single time. I mean, if you're one of those people that agrees with day the thinks you should bench him. Are you really okay with paying him? Let's say the roughly eight and a half million dollars the rest of the way to do nothing. And also, this is maybe just aside aside question that nobody really cares about me. Oh, and the pelican's fans. Why would you wanna go watch them play the rest of the year who in the world is going to show up and watch them play without Anthony Davis? The rest of the way. Now, I don't generally believe in tanking. But that would be one major step now. Davis precipitated the whole thing. Maybe he wants to sit out the rest of the way. Maybe he's worried about getting injured. The thing is he gets paid anyway. And he's got a free agent until after next season. Just the whole thing is bizarre. Could you imagine? They just bench him. And then does the union do anything? I have all these questions so many questions. Does the union step in and say, you can't just sit him on the end of the bench? I don't know how much play the union has in this type of a situation. But I know if it were me I'd want my union to step in. If I wanted to play Davis may not so coming up. We'll let you hear. What are pelicans insiders said about the potential plan for Davis? The rest of the way. And also a couple of other headlines from the NBA, we're running full court. It's our hump shell. How would you combat amount line? If it attacked you while you were running. Oh my gosh. I run so slow there'd be no getting away from about mine. I would just have to stay in there and fight. I bet there's people out there who think they could outrun the mountain lion. Like, they think they could outrun the grizzly bears. Right now, we're all shaky our heads. No, that's a that's a really bad idea. Don't encourage the mountain. It's after hours on CBS sports radio. Uber. NBR's.

"Eight five five two one two four seven eight five five two one two four to seven. Jay in Dallas says he believes the pelican should take the deal now and start rebuilding out of the available superstars how many really wanna play New Orleans trade him to the Lakers ace app. Well, the problem is Jay in Dallas. The the pelicans don't really want the assets that the Lakers are offering other than the picks in return. They don't believe that Lonzo ball would probably stay there. And according to Andrew Lopez are pelicans insider who joined us an hour ago. They really believe that Jason Tatum of all the young players. They could be offered. Jason Tatum is the most attractive to them. So I believe that they're actually raising the bar just high enough that it's out of reach of the Lakers that not even and this is also creepy while we're talking about the Amazon echo, and Alexa, and the other listening devices. How this is a little bit creepy to me to the vaccinate the Davis signs with Rich Paul who's the business partner of LeBron James. And now this whole thing is being played out. Well, of course, Rich Paul and LeBron James one Anthony Davis to go to Los Angeles. And if somehow convinced him of the of that idea just the whole thing is it's inbred. It's almost incestuous. I don't like it at all. But that's the way the NBA goes these days you play with your, friends and your contacts and your business partners. As opposed to sticking with the team where you're drafted. At least initially everybody wants to be wooed. Everybody wants to play with their buddies. It's just. It really does change the competitive nature of the league. Eight five five two one two four two two seven Brian is in Maryland. Welcome to after hours CBS sports radio. Brian. I did hey how you doing? I'm fine. But you're in a tunnel. I'm in my car, you are and you sound like tunnel. Well, that's the problem is that it doesn't sound great on the air. Okay. Gonna tell you about the echo. But I'm not coming in. I understand. Right. Well, if you can call back when you're not driving down, a bluetooth that would be great. Thank you so much for your your attempt, though, we've we've had some issues putting people on the air on their bluetooth or whether they're on a headset. It just doesn't sound great. So we'll wait until you have an opportunity to call us at some other point eight five five two one two four seven. That's our number. I like this suggestion from Chris send the echo to the winner of survivor island. Did we never hear back from that guy? We did what he say. Where's email? Why didn't you tell me? Why are you producer Chris? This is just wrong. No, no, no, no. It is. When did you last hear from him? I am waiting for him to send me the questions. He did not want to come on the air. I'm not sure if it was nerves or otherwise. Oh, yes. I made people nervous. He was going to send me three questions to ask for asking me anything. And I am still waiting ever so patient. But when what did he say when did you hear from what did he say about winning survivor islands? And do you think he wants an Amazon echo that? I'm not sure of said, there's a prize said, yes, you get to appear on asking me anything live on the air and asking me three questions of your choice. And then I said, and then he said, I don't have to claim the prize. If if I don't want to I said, no you don't have to come on the air. If you don't want to you can send us three questions on here, and we on the air, and he said awesome. And he has yet to send the now how long ago was that exchange that was on January twenty third. Oh, it's been a while. Okay. So all the way through through all week and the Super Bowl and here we are. And we have yet to hear from him. But now probably he doesn't want to do this because we made. Give him the Amazon echo. Let's see this tweet comes from young Huey. He says, wow, I was on Amazon looking up sweaters guitar and dang if I was on Facebook minute later and saw ads for a guitar and men's sweaters. No, I'm telling you that is what happens you, look these particular items up or you search for Sade Airbnb. This has happened to me I've gone on Airbnb and Airbnb, by the way, you log in either through your Email or through Google there or through Facebook. There are multiple ways that you can log into your account. So you log in you, look at places on Airbnb and lo and behold, you log into Facebook, and there are those same places or other places similar to the ones that you looked at their all data sharing. Remember Facebook gotten all kinds of trouble for giving out. It's. Its subscribers specs and details and other data to other companies. I'm telling you what you don't even need to have an Amazon echo or Google. What's it called on Google Google? It has one too. And I know people love them. I have a friend of mine who uses hers for music nonstop. However, if you're on the phone, and you're having a conversation, and the Amazon echo is recording. You that's creepy or just listening to you. Because they listen to words, they record patterns of words and Google home. Wow. Never heard of that before Google. I mean, Google is like the devil. I love Google. But I have a love hate relationship with Google. I'm serious if you ever noticed when you Google something they not only do they keep track of it. But then it shows up on your other devices. So here I am on the computer, and I've logged into Twitter, and so on this particular, it's Google Chrome. But I'm logged into Twitter on Google Chrome as well as on Facebook. So, of course, on this computer, this particular, Google Chrome knows me it recognizes me. So there are many mornings when I go home, and I'm on my laptop and the same stuff has popped up. Or if you go to us do go on your phone, some of the different topics that you've searched for on the computer are now logged into your phone. It's it's it's you know, they're ill is what it is that we are telling you there. Listening. They're watching their keeping track. They're sharing. This is. I mean, the off the grid type of person I couldn't be right because I have a national radio show, and we use social media. But this makes me a little nervous. I think I'm going to draw the line at something listening to me in my own home, unless it's BB eight if he wants to come live with me. Well, then maybe I'd make an exception or RTD to it's after hours with Amy Lawrence are hump show on CBS sports radio. At carmax.

"Jay in Dallas says he believes the pelicans should take the deal now and start rebuilding out of the available superstars how many really wanna play New Orleans trade him to the Lakers ace app. So I believe that they're actually raising the bar just high enough, and it's out of reach of the Lakers that not even and this is also creepy while we're talking about the Amazon echo, and Alexa, and the other listening devices. How this is a little bit creepy to me to the fact that Anthony Davis signs with Rich Paul who's the business partner of LeBron James. And now this whole thing is being played out. Well, of course, Rich Paul and LeBron James one Anthony Davis to go to Los Angeles. And if somehow convinced him of the of that idea just the whole thing is it's it's inbred. It's almost incestuous. I don't like it at all. But that's the way the NBA goes these days you play with your, friends and your contacts and your business partners. As opposed to sticking with the team where you're drafted. At least initially everybody wants to be wooed. Everybody wants to play with their buddies. It's just yeah. Yeah. It really does change the competitive nature of the league. Eight five five two one two four two two seven Brian is in Maryland. Welcome to after hours CBS sports radio..

"Some taking your reaction now on both Twitter and Facebook and also you're sending your questions for ask AB anything though. Many of you are procrastinators. That's just how it goes. I am too though, I can't possibly be in my little glasshouse and throw a stone Casey is listening in Wisconsin. Welcome to after hours. Hey, wanna say love this show? I'm just calling in regards to the trade possibilities and stuff like that. You know, obviously, there's a lot of different places and scenarios that he wants to go. But I just want to know your thoughts on what you think about this potential, and Milwaukee, and if it would make sense to get rid of some of the, you know, some of the core that they have in Milwaukee to possibly obtain them. No, I just I just think that they would have to give up so much to you know, possibly make that work. I just want to know what you think I'll hang up in less. All right. Casey. Thanks so much. I think perspective and time changes a lot of of how this plays out. So yes, it's going to take a lot for a team to get Anthony Davis away from the pelicans. But the longer the pelicans, wait, the more the price goes down. So optimally for them. They'll have a bidding war in the off season. Casey. And we know that Davis would like to go to Milwaukee are the bucks interested. Well, there are certainly not giving up Yannis. We know that to be sure and they've got some other young players too. That you think you what you look now. What are they out of their last ten they are tops in the Eastern Conference? So I don't know that they're in a huge hurry to do anything right now. But when you consider the guys they've got who are making noise for them Janas. Khris middleton. Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm brogden, they've got a good core. However, none of those players is as good as Anthony Davis. Are you willing to give up a couple starters and a couple of picks for Davis? I would think yes. Because Davis is the kind of guy that can put you over the top. So we'll see I'm not opposed to trade in which there are two or three players in a couple of picks Davis, but what the Lakers or potentially putting together. What the pelicans were asking of the Lakers was outrageous. And the pelicans were doing it on purpose. Raising the bar just tied up the Lakers. Couldn't reach it. They don't want to trade him to the Lakers. I think they really according to Andrew Lopez who joined us last hour, they're really interested in potentially dealing with Boston. Because they think Jason Tatum is one of the most attractive players out there. So that if you put that lens on the Milwaukee Bucks. They're obviously not getting Yoenis. Would they think Middleton or brogden or Bledsoe would be enough? Are those? Young players as attractive as Tatum and Bledsoe's not even young young. I mean, he's still in his twenties. But. We're not talking about a player early early in his career brogden certainly had.

"Marriage and Anthony Davis that starting five with Julius Randle is the sixth man when that group has started or play together of the team is seven three the problem that being we're fifty three games into the season. Right. Played together. Ten times there's been a minor injury here. Whether it was alpha Peyton ankle and or his broken finger to start. Teaches miss seventeen or eighteen games Jewish Randall's. Now, miss six each one more Mr. some Ave sometime earlier, they just haven't they've been moving pieces around and the defense has suffered because of it, and they just they were built to to be healthy. And when they weren't healthy. For sure I mean, isn't that the story of pro sports, you think you've got the perfect combo and then few injuries here. They're all right. So with the latest you wanna follow Andrew Lopez on Twitter at underscore. Andrew underscore Lopez. Covers the pelicans for the times picayune with that NBA trade deadline approaching Andrew thank you so much for a couple of minutes. No problem. Thank you. Am I the only one who thinks that's nuts? You're gonna pay Davis for the rest of the season to do. Nothing. Now. This is Andrew Lopez who covers the pelicans. But in his opinion, he says an quote there is no value in playing Anthony Davis the final twenty eight games of the year. If you're the pelicans because you have to jump five teams just to get back into the NBA playoffs. Well, if the whole idea is to make sure he doesn't get hurt as much as you possibly can always trip involved on the stairs at his own house. But. If you're not gonna play him because you're worried about him getting hurt. We'll then he's not going to practice either. Right. See you're going to pay Anthony Davis twenty five million dollars this year. So that's his salary for this season. Two thousand eighteen nineteen. You're going to pay him twenty five million dollars to sit and look nice at the end of the bench for the rest of the season. That is crazy. And I understand it's a major investment. And there's always the chance that say Davis can suffer an injury like a Gordon Hayward or a Paul George, but both those guys are back playing again, just. You're going to wrap him in bubble wrap and have him sit on the end of the bench. Now, the the other side of this is that Davis is the one requesting the trade if he doesn't demand to get out of New Orleans with a year and a half left on his deal. Then of course, he's allowed to play. But I'm just looking at it from a viewpoint of the money. The rest of twenty five million dollars. So they're not quite two thirds of the way through the season. But you're going to pay him the rest of his salary to do. Absolutely nothing again, if he can get hurt and a that he can get hurt in practice happens. All the time. I multiple teammates who Tori Thales in practice. Not in games. I mean, he can't practice then. And I get that. He's Anthony Davis. I understand. He's an elite talent. But then the trade for a guy who just sits out a third of the season. I'm blown away by this. I I hate the way that two thousand eighteen nineteen sports has unfolded where it's it's about treating athletes with kid gloves..

"Now, do you think everything we've been told says that February seven can happen? The league ain't gonna let it happen that, you know, tampering stuff that they've interviewed Rich Paul the league has about everything that's gone on here. And it seems like there's enough rumblings from the small market owners right to don't cave to the Lakers. Stephen had earlier, right? Let's hear Stephen a on this. I've been told that one of the people that del Dem's has communicated with. Is is Gregg Popovich not for trade talks anything. But a guy like great pop that just said, quote, don't cave to the Los Angeles Lakers. In other words, like we did it right Kawai? Let it we trade. Don't wait for one second that you have to be compelled to move Anthony Davis now, you can wait right show. Pop. Dell is one of pop guys from the Spurs organization. Now, do you believe that it's that they may actually move by the deadline, or do you think my theory of they're just not gonna play him the rest of the year? I think I'm gonna go with your theory. I just think they're they're being I wouldn't say petty because they have the rights to Anthony Davis right now. And they need the best offer for Anthony Davis and that night not be on the table for them right now. So I think I agree with you, man. I think that they might just sit them down, and wait it out, but just being petty like to say that the Lakers or matter of fact that Rich Paul. All. Tampered into be, you know, have their player find that's just pettiness right now he He was grin. grin. I know he makes that every every eight minute Anthony Davis. But still you still have to look that player in the face. I just think it's just bad right now for the organization Anthony day, which is why I was surprised yesterday that Anthony Davis has been I guess, I shouldn't be surprised. Right. But I was a little bit surprised that because he's a good kid. So that's why shouldn't be surprised. He was talking his teammates yesterday. He was working with the coaches in that game when they were beating the rockets yesterday. Now, we have Alvin gentry sound. So if you're just sitting in Andrew Lopez beat writer for the pelicans says that Anthony Davis has been removed from the end of the intro video where shows the entire team. And Alvin gentry was asked about my theory. Not because I said it, but apparently other people have this same theory if Anthony Davis will play for the pelicans, again, here's what Alvin gentry the head coach of the New Orleans pelicans set high assumed that he will. That's something that. Obviously is going to have to be and can send you know. What's best for him? Just about. Offered anyway..

"Him a little bit later a here's, a text from the two to five Bro. Horrible without you, actually called the station to check on your current employment, situation LL glad you're back we missed you Yeah well if you call it a check on my employment situation here I'm not sure are you gonna. Talk to, and I'd be worried about who you talk, to. Because some people may may tell you different stuff on that but anyways let's. Get. To what I. Did on Saturday And it was. On my, bucket list for years and years and years To go watch a professional boxing max You know some rag tag. Semi pro. Boxing match in some dingy, Jim somewhere, I'm talking about big time boxing match and I wanted to do here, in New Orleans since I was. Here but they just haven't had, anything, there was no big time, major boxing mid championship level event here. New Orleans since two thousand and two I was talking to Andrew Lopez dot com out here. At the law school fight on Saturday he, was telling us that when it's true so it'd been what. A decade and half since that, happened, so it was the local kids Ruger ru Regis. Program against one Carlos Velasco of Argentina I believe probably still pretty bummed about a soccer. Team on Saturday out at lakefront, arena and I will tell you what what an incredible atmosphere that was as. A sports fan really is a human but especially as a, sportsman pageantry It was kind of visceral human level watching to. Incredible athletes incredible fighters dual it, out, and especially when you're watching somebody here from the. City New Orleans who is in incredible promoter of the city in New Orleans and now. He is the still the world, title holder holder in reaches program as really had no problem with the Juan, Carlos Velasco first couple of rounds I was sitting next to t Bob Barron a couple of other people and we were kind of rating the matches on our own or rating say scoring the rounds on our own and we had, the first couple of rounds of draw I didn't actually look at the official scorecards to see what the the judges said but there's a little bit. Intrigued at the beginning but at the last couple around you saw that this is programs fight and I am not. Sure beyond what happened in the. Actual fight. Because it was actually pretty good finding the hometown. Guy one but I'm not sure that, I've had more fun at a sporting event here in New Orleans recently VIN that one mainly because I was. Actual fan so when I'm covering the saints or LSU or, any big, time basketball event. Pelicans almost all the time I'm there I'm sitting in the media box I'm working I can't be a fan focusing on other. Stuff this is one of the rare times but relatively few times here in the city able to attend a major sporting in in the city spe- fan And we were on the floor and I'm hope ESPN and I hope boxing officials were watching what happened there, at the lakefront arena because it was almost sold out the sections that they had open it was allowed people were dancing cheering having fun it was. Incredible it was absolutely incredible it's something I'd one or two for very long time and to say it's exceeded my. Expectations would be a disservice because..
