"Maybe he won't be able to sustain these changes. But through at least two starts, it looks like, oh, the Dodgers did exactly what some people expected them to do with inter heating. And so you sort of just wonder, how many pictures are out there who could have this sort of tweak made to them even now, even after we've been talking about data driven player development and player enhancements for years now. And B, well, if people publicly were predicting this, then why were teams not just signing intervening and saying, no, we won't let the Dodgers do that. We will outbid the Dodgers and we will do that ourselves. I guess one answer is that it's hard to outbid the Dodgers sometimes. They have the pitch that they can make to people and say, here's what we can do and we've done it before. So it's a nice set up the Dodgers have where they can afford to pay a lot for players and then they can also be smart about ways to make those players better after they acquire them. Yeah, I think that having the prior proof of concept is really helpful to guys. I think that some of this probably has to do with and there were other teams that were in on he need this off season, right? I think that it was reported that the reds were interested in him and the cardinals and the nationals and the Red Sox and the Blue Jays. Like there were other teams that wanted to be in the Andrew heaney business, but I think that some of it might be a matter of being able to articulate to the player. This is what we have noticed in you and here's specifically how we think we can help you unlock this new pitch that is going to be more useful to you than what's in your existing repertoire, some of it is probably, you know, I wonder how much of it is teams having enough good advanced scouting to know that the player will be receptive to those kinds of changes because you can suggest all you want. And there are plenty of big leaders who are going to be like, I'm sorry, my slider. Either because they're antagonistic to the change or because they have trouble executing on it, right? Like you still have to do it, right? You still have to throw the pitch. And so being able to say to Andrew heaney, like here's what we're going to be able to do is one thing having him buy into the process of changing it is another, and then having, you know, being able to actually help him execute on what you've proposed is another thing entirely and you're right. He's looked very good so far. He has surrendered a lot of really hard contact. So there's that piece of it too. That is a complete transformation. There are still things here that need to sort themselves out in the next couple of weeks and months, but the early returns are good. And yeah, I don't know. I wonder sometimes if we're properly defining the continuum of player dev. I think that at the extreme end or the teams that, you know, perhaps don't they don't know what they don't know. They don't know what they should be striving to do. And then there are the teams that perhaps do know, but aren't able to do it just yet. They either don't have the in-house personnel that can help them or they don't have the buy in from the rest of the big league staff or what have you. And then I think there are the teams that are doing it and doing it really well. And then there are the teams that are doing it and doing it really well and then are matched by the financial might of the doctors. And when you're all the way at that end of the spectrum, I think that it's just going to be a really compelling argument to someone like Andrew heaney, where you say, we think we know how to help you realize your potential and you get to do it on a club that is probably going to be part of a deep postseason run. And if we can help you, you get to be part of that. You get to be a meaningful contributor to a potential World Series team. I don't know. If you say that to someone and then you give them 8 and a half $1 million, I think they're going to want to hang out for 7 months. Yeah, you'd think he's basically throwing two pitches in his search this way. For steamers, sweeper. Jay wrote about the sort of early returns on he and yeah, he's thrown his four seamer 48.7% of the time, the sweeper 48.1 and his change up 5 times. Yep. 3.2%. And maybe because of the increased rate of sweepers, the average horizontal movement of sliders is up appreciably wide this year. So it's really interesting to see these things catch on so quickly and spread from team to team and you just wonder how pervasive it will be. Well, it's almost like, you know, to use a comp that is much more disturbing. It's like looking at some new COVID variant or something and it's like how effective will this one be? How transmissible will this be and how quickly will this become the dominant form? Hey, that's where my mind is going these days. I'm sorry. But you know, some of the variants, they're not as potent as others, and they're not as communicable and others are. And before you know it, this variant that you heard about a week ago is now like suddenly the dominant variant in at least some regions..

"Yeah. And he is something like I think 72 wins away from 300. You know when I know Justin in the back of his mind, he's thinking he's going to get that. You know, I remember having a conversation with him back in like 2011 about why he loved Nolan Ryan and he said because the guy was a power pitcher all the way to the last day of his career. And I think that's Justin's mindset. He's going to be with Tommy John surgery buster. That is exactly what you are. You've been given, you know, you've been given a stronger arm that's got more bullets in it. I don't understand why there would be a question about it. And I think sale next year throws 96 to 98 again. I just think they do. Yep. And Verlander, of course, has a qualifying offer in hand from the Houston Astros one year and $18.4 million. The Dodgers did not extend a qualifying offer to Clayton Kershaw. There were a lot of people scratching heads around baseball about that decision. I think that's just purely respect from the Dodgers four Clayton Kershaw legacy player saying, look, we're not if you feel like you want to go at the end of your career and go pitch someplace else like for the Texas Rangers, then we're not going to hold you back with draft pick compensation. But I think everybody assumes that eventually Kershaw and the Dodgers will work it out if Clayton wants to continue. Yeah, a little bit. You know, I think to their credit, I'm not sure if Theo was the sort of the blueprint guy for this, but, you know, there does come a period too. Will you recognize the inability to post when you need somebody, he wasn't available at the end of the year and then the postseason. At some point, there's a reality that we've got to really revisit how we're going to approach this, treat him what we're going to offer him. Yeah, I think there's a sentimental feeling that Kershaw will end up there, but, you know, from a front office perspective, boy, you just sign Andrew heaney for a year, and you didn't offer arbitration. You didn't offer a qualifying offer to Kershaw. I don't know. To me, I'm reading into what this says about their feelings, you know, maybe different than you do about his real ability and his health and yeah, if he wants to go do that, go ahead with some other team, and if they're willing to pay you, you should take advantage of that, but I do think there's some reality here with what they think he's capable of. Very different, unfortunately, for me, then those early under situation. I don't have a great deal of faith, not in his work ethic. We know there's nobody that works harder or prepares more or may have been a better picture over the last ten years than Clayton Kershaw. I'm suspect of what's left in his tank. And I love the guy. But I think there's some of that for the Dodgers. You mentioned the Andrew hiney signing yesterday, $8.5 million and you and I both saw heney after he went to the Yankees. He was awful for them, who was dropped out of the rotation, wind up in a sort of filling a mop up role for them, and he was getting pounded doing that, which is why when that contract came down yesterday, it was like, wow, you know? The number was surprising because you're thinking after he performed so poorly that, you know, he might be one of these one year four to $5 million guys. But 8.5 million from that team already, you know, you're kind of wondering as you do with a raise or with the asteroids when they pick up a pitcher when the Dodgers pick up a player like they must see something in him that they view is correctable, very specific information kind of like when the asterisk signed Charlie Morton to a two year deal after he was awful for the Pittsburgh pirates. I guess. I mean, there's a lot of faith in your own staff.

"Taylor one to sweep them not home in a in a series where they are giving up the entire wildcard lead and brings in andrew heaney How is that. How is that not a fireable offense. I'm because the guy that would fire him as the one who put him on the team. Okay that's exactly why it's because i think they they still think andrew heaney's got it look boon's comments after last weekend's game when andrew heaney blue it's like oh he's gonna he's gonna have his moments he's going to. He's going to get there. We thought we thought stuff was good. It was just a victim of soft contact. They truly believe angel. Heaney can get the job done. I can't sit here and take these people seriously when i hear that shit. I can't sit here. Watch the games that i see. Watch the things unfold before my eyes with the decisions that are actually made by grown ass men who have been in baseball from in some capacity for twenty plus years thirty plus years and make these decisions and say andrew heaney. The guy who gives up four home runs every single time he comes in. Is the guy that. I'm going to bring in to avoid a sweep to keep my team in the game. A two run game in which those two runs were actually given back to us in the ninth inning by two solo shots with two outs. And yet we're still down by two because andrew heaney gave up another spot and put the game out of reach you. It's crazy crazy to you. Talk about the bad approach. The bat approach is obviously there. I i'm more pointing to the fact that wants the game gets tied. You would think that is a momentum shift and that the yankees would actually come to life whether it's on the pitching side or on the offensive side and try and win a game when it's tied lightning and what happened was toronto. Shrug that off. It doesn't matter that we're tied because we know we've got this. They came back every single time scored more runs and the yankees bullpen which is completely decimated. Andrew heaney should not be on the roster. That's true people bitching about sal romano in a tie game in the seventh-inning last night that's true. That's that's something to bitch about. But my question is what's the alternative. What gives coming in after a one year andrea. Who's a guy that's that's on this team and has come in big moments my point but he's having both right now. They're all bad right now. The bullpen has been awful for two weeks. So yes sal. Romano is not a major league pitcher but everybody else has blown games over the past. Two weeks including aroldis chapman. Who makes twenty million dollars a year. Okay so they have nobody to rely on in the bullpen. The offense is completely non-existent with the small sliver of a couple moments which they do nothing with and to boot number two garrett cole leaves his start which was another game you just needed to have coal pitcher shutout in he with a hamstring issue. Now luckily to hampshire issue doesn't seem like he's going to land on the i l. He didn't have an mri. He seemed to have caught it before. It got really serious. So i guess that's a smart move on coal like some people might say. Oh you gotta stay out there and battle but you know what he pulled himself out of the game before he actually did some serious damage to his hamstring. So he's not gonna really miss that much time. Boone says he's going to start a game early next week. But that's one you're number one rotation piece who's going to be out of start the number three thing jamison in place on the with a partial right ankle. Tendon retroactive to september seventh. Which was his last start. Okay there's another body down. I know tonto had a couple of bad starts in a row but here we are again three fifths the rotation out and the the guys now who were there are jordan montgomery who i guess is the most reliable at this point corey kluber. Are you kidding. Me louis louis. He'll i guess he's gonna get another star but he walked seven guys in less than four innings. Okay yes i know. We've been calling for louise. He'll because you'll walk seven and andrew hedge anything he hasn't given up a run at the major league level. He deserved to keep getting a shot. But if we expected him to have zero already going forward. We're all fooling yourselves. He walked seven guys. Walks have been issued for him. He averages five point two walks per nine innings in the minor leagues. Yes his talking about that for for a while. All these right-handed arms that are coming up through the yankee system while there are very very very talented. They can't throw the ball over the plate in a consistent manner he did he started to. I mean he still walks guys in those in those scoreless innings as well. But i'm still looking at him. Gave him another start giving it definitely give them a national point because of the injuries but but it's it's his stuff was still filthy. He still got a ton of swings missiles. That potential is there but again. Let's not fool ourselves. Lewis your ancestoral. All problems is not ready. Sure he also came against a very good team with that knows how to hit the ball. I'm looking at. I'm looking at the run differential. we're talking to rondos. Got one of the best run different ones. In the american league i think tampa's tampa 179. Iago's one thirty three plus one thirty three and houston's plus one seventy three so their third in the talked about this. I talked about this with johnny on the podcast the other day it's like toronto's bullpen blown so many games so many games so many games so it was only a matter of time for this team to start teetering back up and the offense to to carry it. They've won eight straight. The yankees are just an absolute tailspin. And you're right look. The injuries are problem their problem..

"A lot of games. Yes starting pitching certainly this week. Other than garrett cole was not nearly as good kluber anton. We're gonna talk about them in a second and then also. I still see this team as being mentally unaware team. And i look at that double steal that they allowed The otani steal of home on the on the double steal and it was just like a a poorly executed. There's a poorly executed situation Poorly executed play by the yankees. In any you know the anaheim's not going to the place or anything like that but it's just just like the yankees are still going to get exposed on things like that and to boot or shell on the throw. Home falls down and hurts his hand. It's like great great. The guy just came back and he falls on his hand and injured it. So it's just Those some some general. I test takeaways. That i saw from this team. Maybe does not supposed to participate in the rest of the season i left. It's like you know he was. He was one of the guys you look at in the first half and you're like all right. Go go cares gio trying to do it and then you know he gets hurt is gone on this this streak and then he comes back immediately and you know to errors in that first game. It's like it's like maybe he wasn't supposed to be where he is right now in guitar it again. I don't know it's strange. They have to go back to this ragtag scrappy group of of something for them to do well and like forced to play baseball in a in a way. That makes sense very odd. The number two is corey kluber return. I mean it's obviously great that he's back on the mounted. Starting he was on a sixty five to seventy five pitch limit. Any completely ran out of gas in the fourth inning. He ended up throwing sixty eight Pitches so kind of an ironic situation because the yankees pretty much were forced to call him up for he was ready to actually start a baseball game at eighty ninety pitches because they're just trying to avoid andrew heaney who other than one start at didn't terrible for the yankees and what happened. Was they tried to push corey kluber. That didn't work out. He got crushed in the fourth inning. And then andrew heaney comes in and allows an absolute freaking moon bomb to shohei otani so everything backfired in that plan on monday night. I know we're going to talk about this later. And is going to screw up our our five looking back five forward here but it. It almost can't go without being said lewis hill is available. He's a guy that has not stopped still hasn't done anything bad in the in the major leagues. This is a guy that's come out and prove that he can be a starting pitcher obviously small sample size. But he's been amazing in that small sample size. Why are we forcing a guy like kluber to come back. You said that. They were forced. They were not forced. They have a. They have options to be able to do this to avoid injured keeney. If they wanted to they chose not to. They chose the bring kluber back. That's fine if you're going to do that. Like i'm looking at the i fifty pitches. I'm like i'm excited. Because kluber look like he was doing really well clearly he fatigue clearly he was you know he was leaving the ball over the plate. You could tell. His location was not where it was when he started getting mashed around So i'm not chalking that up to anything besides the fact that he just wasn't ready to go beyond where he was and and the yankees should not have pushed him beyond where With that breaking point was clearly they did and it backfired and say look at look at the grand slam look at the grand slam pitch visit spinning slider in the play. Exactly and then. Yes you bring. In asia heaney who off the bat boob. Let's go you got one of them out. Got one of them out making sure that we get those Those home runs. And but you know trying to avoid a guy like that then then do something different lewis. He'll hitched in relief for scranton on sunday in boone. Said they want to see him what he looks like. Out of the bullpen but quote..

"I don't know, maybe his shoulder issue is real because I think the Yankees would prefer to not have to deal with him for the remainder of the season. I suspect I don't think they want to I don't think they want to go out of the way and bend over backwards to jammed mink or Herman back on the roster. He's participated in some of the worst games of the year. The four nothing Fenway game, awful. Although he was great, yeah. How quickly we forget, actually, he was the good part of that game. But then the 7 two blown gaming Houston. Oof. He was a big part of the oof. Fart noise. I would suspect the Yankees probably don't want to jam him back onto this roster. I agree. Luis severino. The structurally wrong with his shoulder. And with a little bit of a depleted bullpen, I think you would sign up for one or two severino innings every couple days. Yeah. I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm not banking on it. I'm not banking on it, but I don't think you have to get to the point where you're like doing mental math. How can we get Luis severino off this roster? Like, no, him in the bullpen, that'd be pretty cool. Severino Kluber, Hermann. Glaber Torres Torres is gonna be the starting shortstop of this team in probably another week and a half. That's four guys you probably have to come on to this roster for one spot, right? The maximum number is four, I don't think you're gonna be seeing anyone other than those four, and there's only one free space on the roster. Again, presuming you want Louis heel for that 27 spot. So what do you do? Alaska is probably gonna go. Yep. Andrew Velasquez probably probably gotta go at some point. In terms of starters and relievers, Andrew heaney gonna get cut. Maybe. I mean, what are we looking at Albert Abreu, Andrew heeni, Tyler ray Andrew Velasquez, Tyler Don Velasquez. A combination of whatever those three need to go. I mean, I'm not, are we crazy about it? No, but we're theoretically getting better players in return, even though these guys are igniting us in very different ways. Well, it probably won't. But it's going to be complicated. It's going to people will be upset. Nobody wants to see Velasquez go. I think we could all agree that we talked about that at length on the last pod. It's tough. But the Yankees are the eggs have a situation right now where a number of guys are coming back. Obviously, that could change if somebody has a really bad week in the bullpen and the Yankees want to make a shift there, then who knows, but we're gonna be looking at some guys who have been very integral to the last two weeks of action that have seen the Yankees go from 61 and 50 to 74 and 52. And they won't be here anymore, unfortunately. Velasquez is a prime example of probably like how much do the Yankees want to squeeze from this stone? Yep. You know, he's not an offensive player. He's been ignited by The Bronx..

"Montgomery and proactive bullpen management. Then one and excruciating game behind Andrew heaney and excellent bullpen management, the starter went for innings, didn't matter everybody except the role as Chapman was nails, dynamite, et cetera. We do have to talk about Chapman, obviously, we gotta talk about Peralta, who Andrew he and he said, has a ton of nuts to throw four straight changes to Freddie Freeman. We agree, he also slapped himself in the face like a maniac. We gotta talk about the roster moves that are upcoming that you don't want we don't want, but they're gonna happen. And we gotta talk about the worst takes of the first half because 11 wins in a row for the first time since 1985. I think that's enough to revisit some poor takes for a couple of weeks ago. We're sitting there great. Just win the first one and then Morton can kick he and his ass. It won't really matter. Morton heenan. Yeah, not that I'm not that I'm sitting here saying Andrew he and he's bad. It's just the matchup is clearly clearly Morton has a very, very good career numbers against against the Yankees. Glacier tours is still healthy right or he's not on the list that he he He got is stomach jammed his thumb sliding into second base the day. So he's going to be out my god. This is terrible. Because your the yankees legitimately have a very good starting lineup. Either on cova. Or on the on the i l. 'cause you've got jiro shell out if got gleyber out like i said rizzo der sanchez. You're almost building an all star in infield and then and then garrett cole could be the pitcher of for that for that injury team. And i love to scrape by with some rain of outfielders but the you get my point. Alturas had a big series the last time the yankees and white sox played in may One player to watch for jose abrego has three career. Home runs against andrew heaney in his career So that may be something to wash for if you're looking for someone To hit a home run. Who's a break to be a good man. If giancarlo stanton aaron judge get a hold of one. I just wanna see on how far it flies into the abyss of corn behind outfield wall I think this this could be a fun game between the yankees white sox again. "And of course what star. The knicks are going to be trading for next right here on knicks film school. Do you know what pissed me off from. Yesterday's game is rizzo. Has the fourteen pitch at bat in the first inning and it actually gets it ends in a walk but like crowd is on their feet and their subdue s- in the building and the judge twenty twenty-seven hopper to the on the first pitch. It's like awful announced three straight out at that's the yankees put together in big spots between judge and staying in labor and when when hicks was the team earlier in the season. It's appalling it. Just i don't know and that's why i say night. But that's that's why. I said a couple of minutes ago. It's like yes. The additions of gallow and rizzo were necessary. And i like them both and on paper. The lineup looks way better. Because you can. Go lefty righty. and it's just. It's just rizzo doesn't strike out as much. But then you still have the holes in the lineup. Where the hell's gleyber torres. And when the hell is he gonna ever show up is on the podcasts. I just did With derek alvin Yesterday when is dj. Lemay who gonna turn back into All-star player so gary sanchez is now kovic so you have hagi. You know he. I know he's he's the is. Apparently he's the best receiving catcher in the history of baseball. But guess what he can't hit so so so the lineup. Everyone chirps outline. They're like see it's like if you have to point out every single dime the guy gets on base you should recognize. There's approaches like which is what like twenty eight percent of the time to overseas giancarlo. Giancarlo gets a big hit. You again billion people saying what is your criticism of. it's like. Yeah you if you have to point out when the guy making thirty two million dollars. It's a home run. That's a problem. So i don't want i don't wanna make this just a bitch fest right. So let's talk about something that i actually was excited about this week. And that's louis. He'll he'll soft g he'll He had a lot riding on these days. Not ready so the show look like he had electric stuff. i think. Mlb pipeline graded his fastball. Seventy five out of eighty so if you believe in the in the scouting and all that kind of stuff. That's an elite fastball. with a high spin rate. That's i mean. It's this is one of the pitchers that had been on like their their list of like good stuff kind of pitchers but like when are we ever going to see them. So i was very excited. About what i saw. It was a great debut. I would much rather see him. Get a few more starts than andrew heaney. I don't need to see andrew handy. It was a lottery ticket. I think maybe they lost out on berrios. The price is too high. There were some reports. That cashman was looking at trevor story to the deadline. The price was too high so they had to sort of pivot to different plans. Okay so andrew heaney is someone that you can just sorta get off the scrap heap and As a lottery ticket. I know what that lottery ticket is gonna turn into. Let's let's say lewis hill pitch for. Yeah i mean this is a guy who the continue to say is not ready. Even after his dominating performance like the first yankee to have whatever six innings the no run six strike as they do since like nineteen. Twenty years and people are still after the game like. He's not ready as change. Needs to come along if he's not ready. Thin fucking twenty people. That i've seen pitch for the yankees. This year aren't ready because the guy dominated a line of andrew heaney couldn't even keep in the ballpark and i know the orioles aren't good. And if we were to go out there and face the astros or the red sox or the blue jays maybe he might get rocked. But he didn't face the orioles a team. That heating has been in the league for years now. Couldn't get out against. Keep them in the rotation vinny sent down after the game. I know it's like rostrum manipulation. I mean i hope he comes back. He doesn't come back off. That's crazy he's got to get a start against seattle. He has to. Yes who who will see you. Starting in you have confidence. In who else is deserving of a spot. The thing that i can't stand with the yankees is they've done. This for years is whether it seniority or money owed always takes precedence over performance like esteban. Floreal comes up. Guy is unbelievable for a stretch here after the all star break is him and greg alan singlehandedly. Carry the team to four wins and five games and they're like banks for all your production but we're gonna go with ryan lamar brett gardner up there rather than you like. There's nothing you can do to keep your spot i was. I was ready to see a tweet. That writings was getting set down the other day and they for the for the minor league shuttle in that nick nelson was going to be back up. Because that's sort of what this team does. It's all it's incredibly frustrating. And i'm with you on it that it's frustrating but if we're if we're worried about roster spots number twenty three through twenty six making or breaking this team then this teams in bigger trouble than they got to be. The top. Half of this roster. That's going to carry this team to the playoffs or not. Let's hear the the bottom of the roster is what it is. I think every team probably has these same sort of annoying things. Go on and we're just close to the yankees. And we hate aaron boone. So we so. We're frustrated with how. Brian cashman has maybe developed this roster. So we can. We can bitch about it a little bit more. But but i'm way more in the camp of aaron judge needs to be better in big spots. Dj the man who needs to turn around giancarlo stanton at least. He's playing the outfield. A little bit more now right like the. He played that he played the outfield on monday. Which gave judge a. d. h. day voice should be returning like what are we waiting for mean. It's going to get injured in the minors. At least let him get injured at yankee stadium like don't let him get injured in scranton. So call him up. D. h. input. Stay in the outfield. And let's just let's just go. Let's just see what happens. Yeah and i really the bottom. You know the last roster spot shouldn't matter twenty six roster by eight does because the manager puts these guys in situations they shouldn't be in so you might think to the last two guys in the bullpen. Don't matter but when you're in a fucking tenth in game against the phillies or the red sox and there's a guy in second with no outs those are the guys that he's using the pitch because everyone needs their time off. Even when every game is a muslim game right now has been i mean. I'll i'll retract that. Because i hate when people say now as if like april games didn't matter like they didn't have any impact on now but boone finds a way to use the bottom of the roster in big spots and so every spot on the roster matters because you could be the twenty six guy he'll find a high leverage fought for you. I mean was it We were joking through text message..

"Your ranking silver, Andrew Heaney, and John lesser. You have fifty and fifty one no way. I would take over either them and lesser maybe trending in the wrong direction heating going up, but like they strike people out, and they have a track record and they're not learning a new league and no, but you agree. I agree. They do need to be behind those two there, their cases I can make for that Haney injuries. Lester, the decline in the second half last year, but he has put up some premium numbers, the other thing, too, is after this miss time, we do have to consider the possibility that kaikal is not his typical self. It did happen guys last season, more than considered that the J habits sixty one, I'd have them higher. I take over Kyko. Yeah. And Happel probably move into that range of LeicesteR, and Haney. And I agree that he should be head of all using left easier. Joe Casey, definitely I would take him. So I don't think he's going to be in your top sixty. Who else here's and have to be a lefty like sunny gray looked fine on Sunday. I was watching I was listening, he's pitching well, and somehow that read staff is just not giving up home runs. I would take gray. Chris archer? Still a strikeout guy said fatty, arraign whip on a good rank comp not stuff. They're completely different rating left. He case not case, but I think that, that's a good value based comp. Steven Steven Matt seventy six I would take maths over Quaco hundred thought a you know, we've talked Matt's Hutton, et, nausea on the show and you're saying that, but like mats and Pablo pays if he removed their one bad start. And I know you can't it all counts, but they've been fine this year. If you just remove the ten run games, I'm sorry in advance, I hate that approach. I do too. But it tells me look, you never have a bad day. Of course you do. I've seen your bad days. You've heard my bad day. Every Monday Thursday hear him. But the point is like they had a bad game was allowed ten runs in a game and massive and get out, get getting out against philli the rest of their seasons are erased like three even like that tells me okay that maybe they had a bellyache maybe they're argued with their wife. I don't know that they had a bad game. I am bad days and my performance reflects it. I'll give you three guys on that. I know I put them ahead of. Okay. Let's hear that. All right. As I blank. Marcus Stroman are yes. Sure strong. Pretty decent year but he seventy nine that's not even like someone. You have to roster. They're, they're people like Stroman. Apparently, I'm not one of them report Selo, and Frankie. Mantell. Frankie month as can everybody out. Why don't you like? Well, there's two reasons. One is the fact that the, of the best schedule for pitchers coming up in the other is that he's going to face innings cap and that's gonna find another question. I'm very shocked that people aren't talking about this Kevin Guzman's been anointed the guy bumped from the rotation. Why good? Why terrible? I get it now. But does this signing not signal to you that the Mike sarokin max, freed innings caps are going to play a part? Yes. I do think Mike sarokin on the Chris paddock timetable. I will give you that Rocha's probably not pitching. But if they're in first place in September, and I think they might be like, how can you not like saroka just getting a deal stint any day right off around the all star break? They'll be funny business. That's my they'll be funny business. But, like, I'd really have the funny business around paddock and saroka that Kevin gauze Missouri is six fifteen. They should Pavetti him and put him in the minors for month. Sure. Like maybe that'll visit maybe that'll fix. I do think is good stuff at times. He can. Give you productive month or two and more to a major league team into a fantasy team..

Michael, I would not be doing that. Other action there of notes, John snow at Citi field against even Matt's whenever John gray pitches. I think it's interesting because I don't know what he's going to do. Wrote Mets is a very good matchup grade needs to step up snow needs to step up in a big time way in this match buddy is coming off that injury. Mike saroka Miami watch the moral. Get five off them. Do this. Think it's obvious. And then it's not brand Woodrow who's winning games from walkie starts at home against Pittsburgh. I'm not sure Brandon would've is getting a love. He deserves a lot of strikeouts. Throws really hard. That's a fifteen game winner this season Brandon Woodrow. And that's a, that's a great layup of a win to because he's facing rookie tavis. Milwaukee, Andrew Heaney one of the most added pitchers ESPN leagues is pitching against Seattle that team man in the tank Margolis have been terrible. You want to light hinge in Rio. Excuse me, a light hinge in Rio. Well, sure, not sure what you get out of any. Oh you mean statistically the wide variance because of the injury factor? I think he has got very good stuff. I don't think you can compare anybody. I mean we're us doing Kershaw. Why the light word is they're really liked though. Like I wouldn't make that comic if, if I'm saying, what's, what's he like saying, like, almost prime John Lester? I'm not saying like a one fifty year Ray. I mean that's Kershaw. Ridiculousness the numbers to realistic levels and. Don't you almost double reuse? I when I see Heaney I think that could be a John lesser to eighty five year. Ray guy. That's what I'm thinking. Okay. I'm aboard with Saturday. Oh, it's Lucas GIO, Lido day at Kansas City sale, just fan twelve royals Giotto might be able to do the same thing. I think we all agree at this point he needs to be rostered all formats couple guys here strike up. Attention interesting to me. If you have a comment on any of them to speak up, we've got a framer Valdez replacing Corbin Martin for Houston. Nick Pavetti at home against Cincinnati. Meaning to go eight innings there because they have no other relievers, Adrian Sampson of Texas had eleven strikeouts, in his last outing, I believe Zach police at home against the Yankees, not a strikeout guy. Zac Davies who never loses and pitches. Well all the time against Jordan Lyles who's had a good season. Trevor Richards Theron a lot of interesting pitchers on Saturday that are available and a lot of leagues and Tehran is one who currently is in a great portion of schedule. This the Miami game, the one after that it's going to be the only one that great. It is a tough one. That's Pittsburgh at home and I'd still start him for that one. So get on board with Tehran and his Braves counterparts there from of all does moving into the rotation. Interesting guy. Good matchup on paper. I don't know about the, the, the death. He's going to give you in this game. So I'd be a little bit careful there. And since you mentioned Samson in Texas, doubleheader, there is talk that the Rangers could give a spot start to Joe Palumbo. One of their top pitching prospect. So at least get a look at him. Sunday, Sunday baseball PIN. It's the cardinals and the cubs, Adam, Wainwright and Kyle Hendricks own the ladder. Not the former Wayne ten minute game Wainwright's pitched. Okay. But no. Yeah. Hendrix, Chris paddock, showing some signs here that it's not also, you know, rainbows and unicorns Phillies, hit him the other day. He's pitching, Washington. I would obviously leave him active but I feel like the Padres might just like send them to the end of this for two weeks for whatever reason they want tipping tipping pitches..

"Because the big risk of throwing that many innings is that the elbows Barkan. Yeah. That you re kind of injure the elbow. So I'm gonna push him down. But I'm hoping that that happens in drafts in general, and I did take him last night in that in mid event qualifier. So took him in the twelfth round just after Fulton average. So. About what one seventy ish. Yes. Something in that range, then and I can get in at that price. I had him ranked much higher for Andrew Heaney. And so just to get time out there because I did have it a little bit wrong. Obviously came in elbow was barking bit was scratched from a star because of inflammation. And then through this twenty five pitch, quote unquote will call it a start because he did start the game. But it was a couple batters. And then another twenty in the yeah, he was an opener. Exactly, he was it was just essentially an opener and that was on March eight so he's behind schedule for Heaney, and you gotta move them down. But I think the market's going to be willing to do that too and move him down quite a bit. So the price. There's definitely a a price where I will jump in. I will I won't have an issue to send you know, what I'll take this shot here. What about let's say. Well, he folded just off the top which one would you prefer Heaney? Okay. And then he. He versus say sunny Kini. Hey, I just wanna test. You just wanna see where you're at Heaney verses spring standout match strong. He. Okay. But I we'll talk about strong later. I like straw. Just I versus teammates gags how about that Skaggs got his own issue. I mean, I know it's got to be heating for twin? Which scares you leased? So typical angels stuff, man. They just can't catch a break in part too. Because they need they need to stay healthy, and they have a legit shot. I think wildcard, but they all much health from that pitching. And that's the problem. Harvey's your as. Ace Andrew hineous. Well, he might be of injury. And he's out for a long time Trevor hill rock-solid, she's all right? So that's that's a little injury update. Let's get into we didn't go in specific like ADP owner with e-e-e-e-no we bounced around a lot. So we're just bouncing around again here. We're gonna start with Patrick Corbin is moving over to Washington on the heels of a big deal as he doesn't have to be the guy because obviously they have max. And and Strasberg's that's kind of nice that you can kind of come in settling and not have to really worry about, you know, trying to earn your your paycheck or the full contract. Every time out. Of course, you want to earn your paycheck, but six years one four one hundred forty mil I'm somebody who lays off on the first year of a big deal the data shows that generally a little bit worse. That's probably just normal regression. Anyway, because if you were good enough to get that deal that you probably just bounce down. But that's exactly what I expect. Here. This him to just have some normal gravity. Kick in because Patrick Corbin just came off a career year. Three fifteen or a one zero five whip insane strikeout rate..
"andrew heaney" Discussed on FanGraphs Fantasy Baseball
"But I think he went about one hundred sixty. Six which at that point. It's like, okay. Take the gamble because he's free, but you have to make sure that especially if you're like where you don't have DL slots, you gotta make sure you you're the rest of your team can handle that. And I knew my team couldn't the way to my team last night. I don't have any room for any injured players. It was. I think I think people are going to have to really kind of back off. And if you wanna take the gamble super late, and you've got a team that seems pretty healthy going into the season. I guess you take that shot after one fifty. But that's that is a big if for me, two hours already laying off on on full just because I didn't really wanna pay full price did last June. I think there are some positive things. I definitely can see scenario where he improves Drake rate and makes makes his strikeout rate a little bit more commenced with his whiffs there. But he still walks a good number of guys. It was very clearly a career year last year, and I just didn't wanna pay full freight for and of course, as injury now makes it easy to completely lay off. And that's what I'm gonna do. My ranking will almost undoubtedly reflect that there is a price. There's always a price and the price that you're talking about their what'd you say went like one sixty five I'm trying to find. him. Oh, maybe went hires in that c-. He went at the beginning of the twelfth round. Okay. So in that the fifteen team, right? Yeah. So he's getting around. One sixty one it's one sixty five just to get rule. Evan around. So one sixty six is where he went. At that point. I I I would there is a point. There is a point for Fulton debits where I can't turn it down. But here's a question. So he goes in the next pick is Nathan evolved, e an evil guy. So just even even with the like one thirty five that you have thrown Ron right now. When after him, you know, how I feel about Ross Jimmy Nelson went after him, and you know, how feel about him that's literally three spore favorites right there. And I'm just I rather have those guys they're pretty much without a doubt. So yeah, it it's just not gonna work this guys. Is that you just don't we could find out two weeks from now that he's having Tommy John that you may get nothing out of that pick. Now. I mean, it's such a discount it might be worth it. But like I said it's largely due to team construction. Like, if you've already taken a guy like the next guy, we're gonna talk about injure Heaney or the guy we just talked about and Luis Severino. You can't take the risk on another guy like that. No, especially not in NFC. And that's that's the problem. Andrew Heaney struggled with injuries throughout his career and again, dealing with something walked off the mound after two thirds of an inning with elbow issue. He threw twenty five pitches before being replaced. He also through twenty pitches. Sorry. I thought that was an injury. That was planned. It looks like he was scratched dude inflammation in the previous starts using time line wrong. So this was planned to just throw twenty five and through another twenty in the bullpen. But now he's behind schedule at this point for Andrew Heaney. So have you moved him down? Am I correct? That prior to this when he was presumed healthy you really loved him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Andrine he got. Yeah. I mean, you have to move him down. He's not gonna be ready. Who knows if this is some sort of bigger issue? Heath went from I don't have his player page up. But I believe he threw twenty one innings in two thousand seventeen and then through a hundred eighty and that was his first full season. Tom, Tom, Tommy, John. Yeah. So there's definitely some risk. I really liked the way he pitched I know he struggled down the strategy. He you know, he did all those innings coming off at Tommy John. So kind of expect him to slow down. This is really troublesome..

"So I just think that it's it's possible that just in terms of of Knowle's ratio stats that they regressed a little bit more to like wear his fifth has been which has been really regular. You know, it's always like around three for the last three years. So we're not talking about we're talking about like regression to still being an ace. But just that I think you're not gonna quite get the numbers from Nola this year that you did last year anyway, so back to Panetta, you know, one of the thing. That's really exciting is if it's just like if he can just be not that dang unlucky than maybe he can be a lot better. You know, maybe it's about the defense backing him up a little bit. Or maybe that really is just about this. This sort of like weird luck, the one thing, and I'm sure you guys know this. But it's just that. He's really prone to sort of like blow up starts, and you know, I don't I don't know. Because I mean, I think I I hope that I've proved at this point in the conversation that like I like looking at numbers as much as the next week. But I I don't know if there's just a sort of psychological component to that that, you know, some pitchers are better at sort of like getting their face caved in and dealing with having a defense made of like Lincoln logs behind them. And and and like, you know, maybe pathetic doesn't deal with that as well. So when things start to go poorly for him he has a harder time executing pitches. And like that would be me if I were in that that'd be that'd be really frustrating. Yeah. I'm not. I'm not castigating him in any way. The only other thing to guess to tag onto as sort of like concern was a there was this article on the athletes by this guy, and he had. Weird name. It was like emo-. But not. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've blocked his articles if you contact athletic. They can set a special filter where his articles don't even come through. Okay. Cool. All right. I will. Extra. But it's absolutely worth it. But but since you read that just go ahead and tell us when it was since you had to be upheld. I'm gonna be blocking it in the future. Because this this thing from this article keeps me up at night as long as we're talking about the quality of my sleep. So he was talking about how pathetic pitches differently with the shift on and that he throws fewer outside. Fastball. Fastballs when the shift is on. And the thing that like makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up is the fact that apparently all of the pitchers do this. But I just think Pavetti was the most extreme example. And of course, it's worrying because it's like, no, they just let the shift take care of the shift, and they should just pitch the same. So I don't really know what's going on with that. But that is interesting. I actually hadn't read that from optical check on that. See what what it says about Vata? I mean, you look at a twenty percent strike out on his walk rate. Twelve percent swinging strike just should have had better results. Even the one point three home or per nine is. His high. But it's not so agreed that you would have thought you'd have a near five-year with the four seventy seven. So the defense being a major issue makes sense. And as brought up there were all those blow up starts from Havana. Jason you're back in you.
