"Call Nick Batum about to walk in someone off camera said staff had 62 Uh, So those guys were definitely noticing that box score should be good, eh? It is good is good matchup. Good teams and good games tonight, So we'll look forward to reading in the L A times. Andrew. We appreciate you coming on the Murphy Mac show. Thanks for thanks for the time. Thank you. No problem. There is Andrew Greiff could break down Polly Clippers, and we already got people in the text lining. So you mentioned the Clippers. They just start coming with their clip Clippers shade saying they're frauds. That's what I'm saying to the Warriors will always own them. Yeah, I and I love that. I mean, you got to remember there was a time when this whole thing got started. Kind of in the Mark Jackson era. The Clippers were kind of like the main foe. If you really look back with the Blake Griffin era and Chris Paul and all these guys it was like, Can the Warriors get good enough so that they can get past the Clippers? Not only that they get past them. Like you said they owned him. But you talk chip in his do Don't ever forget about who was it? Blake and the and the angry Aussie getting chucked out of the game on Christmas night who went on with Willard last night. Willard called down to Australia last night. He got the angry Ozzy. He got the angry eyes so well, it's always on top of it. But anyway, yeah. You remember that one that one bucket and it was Christmas Day? Christmas night? Yeah, they got chucked all that the ghost of Christmas brawls and my personal favorite is the gift that we've all seen were step. Just puts Chris Paul literally on his ass dribbling and in such a fury, Paul, you remember the surfing gives not? Yeah, well, wasn't the Clippers was Mark Jackson's last game as a warrior coach, right? Game seven. Any war? Yes, number yours. He wore his execution suit. Yeah, he knew they were coming back. Yeah, Polly, Which reminds me, I'm waiting for another episode of With all due respect women they send for you. You'll find your best suit. Yeah. You know, when I said, Well, I don't wanna get too into the week. Remember? We know we knew we support that's a nice kerchief. Tony. Something's going on. Yeah, With all due respect, Yeah, I think cut from the Tony sound of our Tony. But our V law go ahead, flog flog. He had a great quote Rico log, he said. At one point, he said, in this thing about Twitter, you know he goes, which is the most negative thing in the history of man is what he said. He's right, though, right? That might be a good cut to use. Actually, you know, said almost negative thing in the history of the world. It's all right. Well, good stuff. We're ready for warriors and clippers go. "The national sports News. You need the local team talk you crave with the occasional die aggression. Here's Murph in Mac, just saying your Google home Smart speaker play KNBR. Yes. Speaking of digression, Polly flashes come over for his third batch of love today. Well, it's a whole new year. He's got a whole new approach, and he's trying. He's reinventing himself like a lot of us, You know, ther a new year new approach. That's the Warriors. Now, with dream on, and Steph help. Amount last couple games and brings us to tonight when they take on the Clippers in the first of two or calling these baseball sets, and I'm hoping that Clayton Kershaw on Walker Bueller on pitching for the Clippers, and there's still two games said here, But we'll talk about what they're bringing to town with. Andrew Greiff, who covers the Clippers for the Los Angeles Times, and Coming off a loss last night, which Paul George didn't play so little Clippers preview. Who with Andrew on the Yuma guess Line, Andrew. Welcome to the Murph in Max O'Brien, Murphy and Paul McCaffrey. How you doing this Wednesday morning? Well, we got him. Look at him. We don't have dropped him. We lost him. I thought it was just kind of a quiet guy, but we don't know this way. Don't we notice that he's not there? Hey, Andrew. Good morning, Brian Murphy. Paul McCaffrey of the Murphy Max. How you doing, man? Hey, I'm doing well, thanks for having me on no glad to have you on and let's go, man. Let's roll up our sleeves on these clippers because this is a team that Was last seen what flaming out in the bubble and firing their coach. And now here we come into the new season and what's the verdict? So far? What have you seen from the Clippers in this young season so far? Yeah, they've been. They've been down a starter of the whole time. Marcus Morris, the forward they re signed as a free agent. He's a top priority as a free agent, and they got him back four years 64 million, But he hasn't played all season, even the preseason because of a sore right knee. There's really no timetable for his return. It's a little murky about when they could get him back. Um, what they've done is they've plugged in Nick Batum who they got, you know, for the minimum after he was waving Charlotte But he has played really well. He's been an excellent passer. They wanted him because of his passing and his defense. Um, you know if he could make a shot, if you could, you know, stretch the floor again. I think that'd be sort of a bonus. He's done a really good job shooting the ball better than 40% from three s. Oh, they've They've been pretty well in terms of playing a starter down the entire time. The trouble has been when they've been missing one of either. Paul George acquire Leonard. You know, there's plenty of When they didn't have Kwai against Dallas. They lost by 51 points last night in that, Paul and you could just tell when Quiles up the floor, the the shot creation. The defense was really struggling for them, and they had they lost those non quiet minutes pretty handily. That's pretty good breakdown, so they're not at full strength there. They're missing Morris and either Kawai or Paul George and I guess small potato question. Do you know anything about Paul George's availability tonight? Last night. No, they have updated his, um, availability for tonight, but they said that last night he was going to test his ankle. He heard it Sunday against Phoenix warrants. He did warm up, but there was ruled out about half an hour beforehand. You know, obviously This being a back to back actually a rare back to back the only one who'll play in the first half where it's a home, then rode back to back. You know, I think that they could probably be looking at it holding out last night's precautionary. You know what? You don't want to put him in a situation where he's playing a bum ankle, two games and tonight, so no read on whether he'll play, but he looked pretty comfortable in the warm ups last night when he did test it so He didn't look like he was, you know, hampered visibly by by the angle. You were talking Andrew Greiff, who covers the L. A Clippers, who are five and three coming into San Francisco tonight to take on the Warriors. In general, you know the fall out from the bubble flameout. The semi final lost the blowing the 31 lead in general. How would you describe kind of the mood of the Clippers coming into the season? You know the head coaching change? As you mentioned picking up Marcus Morris and all that, But I mean, are they still viewed? Do you think they still think of themselves as the rightful heir to a Western Conference final match up with the Lakers? My sense is that based on what kind of happened last year, there's this little bit chastening that's happened. You know where people kind of think? Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, You know, like they knew they were good last year. But as quite Leonard said, several times this year, they skipped steps to get to that point where they should have advanced to the Western Conference finals or beyond. They didn't You know they didn't practice very often. There was obviously you know, elements of team chemistry. It was not perfect. Um, there were injuries galore that kept the team from passing. It kept him from really being around each other. So They knew that they could have been better in terms of building a stronger foundation. And so I think that the right now you know, they have wind against the Lakers. They've beaten a really good son's team on the road. They've got some pretty good wins, but I don't think you're gonna get anyone from this organization. You know, before the playoffs start Truly feeling comfortable because they know that they're gonna be judged on the playoffs. And that's really all that matters in that funny. Yeah, and the MBA and a little bit on Ty Lue. And we're talking Andrew Dr. Who covers the Clippers for the L A times a little anti Lou. I mean, you know, we know him well from the Cleveland and His resume, but he takes over for Doc Rivers is Can you describe any fingerprint He's put on the team so far, and the way that they want to play your tie. Wu is really, um, faster and with better ball movement, in particular on offense, glad being on the last couple years. Clippers right near the bottom of the league in terms of passes made per.

In terms of thinking of it was a free agent as he mentioned yet it doesn't cost you trade competition competition. That's a big deal. If you go get Ryan Stafford, you gotta make trades. And you gotta you gotta give up draft capital, you know, and so When he says, I evaluate Jimmy, just like any other quarterback, you have say yeah, but Jimmy knows the offense and has been here 34 years, but to his other point, the durability that's my biggest kind of concern with Garoppolo. It's really believe to the backup quarterback situation. All right. We talked about it like these teams that have good backups. Yeah, you can't roll out there with Beth 30 moans and we loved him. "To take off the power hour today. Sure you have some Curt Casali takes right they go Poot, Sally, you know it's funny now. It all came together now. Yes, was always talking about being in Nashville working out with my college buddy, Curt Casali, and at the time I was I didn't study the Reds catching depth chart. I didn't know who he was. But Gaz has been talking about that guy for a while. So It was like 400 son because he's he has his buddy, you know? Well, he said he was also playing. They were playing like, pick up like like baseball games. Once spring friend got shut down with a bunch of the van de guise of Antonio Campos out there. Sonny Gray was out there. He said that I think you, Sally said Yes. Was hitting bombs off a Sonny Gray left now. Stubble on that game down at the park. I would love to see that right? Some of that go down to the park. And there's the Vandy pickup games he has facing center. Great. Yeah, anyway. 8 35. Mike Florio is gonna join us talking more football. He always controversial Mike Florio. And they've known Jimmy G hater will have a tape area. Come with a take a You know what I mean 8 55 the daily dose of dubs doses. Tonight, And the biggest big question is Will Paul George play didn't play last night in the clips lost to San Antonio and ST Mary's Gail Patty Mills, who went for like 27. I think I want to see the Warriors maintain this kind of energy that they're playing with this kind of like inspired push. They seem to last three games, man. Yeah, and by the way, just we can talk about it later in the show, too. But Connor Letourneau has a great piece this morning. On Draymond Green and Steph Curry. Yeah, underrated relationship of Draymond and Steph. He does a deep dive into it and says, These guys are thick as thieves. It's always step in place, different clay or Stephanie, Isha or Stephane, Steve or whatever. It's about the the hidden bond between Draymond and Steph and like not only on but off the court to and how basically dream on is, you know he's such a, you know, session intense dude that he doesn't put up with any BS, and he just he's come to love step for. How really is. Steph loved Raymond for his his leadership in intensity, and then the numbers on the court. Steph When Dream on's on the court and Steph when Dream on's not on the court and dream on one steps on the court and dream on one steps, not other than these two grabs. Their success is absolutely linked, and there's a reason they think the reason why steps going off now is dreamin. Yeah, In all the positioning and all the vehicles. Yeah, I love it. I love that. It's a good story recommended to everybody. I'm psyched. I'm like, really safer warrior ball again. I'm all in all in. All right. Does 55 will doze in the 9 15 Andrew Greiff of the L A Times covers. "That fits your life. Rocket can I like that. Yeah, well punching back here have abs, a steel. That's right. The quarantine gave me the best abs I've ever had. So don't even try even try just off. You'll regret it. Your knuckles will just hit Muscle. Just like that Steal, steal, like, let me tell you. So we're taking your calls so far tonight at 855 to 1 to four. CBS largely about your reaction to the another night of N ba playoff basketball. Inside the MBA bubble. We just spoke to Andrew Greiff, the Clippers beat writer for the Los Angeles Times about the Clippers performance. Not only tonight and what I thought was a great win over the Denver Nuggets in a great game, most importantly to US basketball fans, sports fans a great game. I think that the Clippers were still of the favorite out West. I would still pick them to advance out west over the Lakers. There have been some mental lapses, but as Andrew put it, I like it, So I'm going to steal it. Someone used it numerous times tonight just does a fore warning to you all but the Clippers can impose more on their opponents. Than any other team. And that includes the Lakers producer. Dave is back in our CBS headquarters. What are your thoughts on that? Dave? Do you have the Clippers coming out West store? I like the Clippers. I like their depth. Obviously, Kawai is a different animal when it comes to the playoffs. I mean, we've seen it the past couple of years. And Paul George is a complete X factor in this thing. Yes, but I still I will take the Lakers. I think I think you saw it in the last game. I think you saw LeBron It's just that another level of intensity right now and I know they don't have the depth, and I know it's just really the top two guys unless Kuzma wakes up and decides to play like a real player. They don't. They don't have much depth outside of them. But I will take the two best players on the court, for the most part and a motivated intense LeBron when it comes to the playoffs. I mean, that's a formula, right, LeBron An A D just overpower everyone play as dominant as they can be. And then you know, Cal Cosmo gives you 13 like it did the other night. And if Rondo can give you 12 and You know, then you're kind of in business. Yeah, I think that's all you really need from those other guys. Just just, you know, fall into that role, play a little defense. Get a couple of rebounds. You know, timely steel, you know, and just give me 10 to 12 points. Obviously it is a lot riding on the shoulders of LeBron and a D. But that's the way the team has been constructed. So if they're going to give you, you know, approximately 30 points 34 28 whatever they gave the other night. Then you know they're They're men on a mission and I I will still take them to come out of the West. I do think it's going to be a great Syria's, though I think we do ultimately get the Lakers Clippers, and I think it's gonna be fun to watch. I was getting a lot of fun to watch. There's no doubt and just the thing is to the Clippers. You know, Hawaiian Paul George on a given night like you say, OK, LeBron has to give you 38 D has to give you 28. You know, it's it's a hell of an ask We ask you think is a little less for a PG In quiet from the standpoint that you know you could have Williams go off for 14 to 16. That could happen, Harold, we know Montrose. Harold Six Player of the Year Off the bed. Jubak tonight had a big night. The Clippers are just are much deeper. Team s O. That is where I think the Siri's could ultimately swing as well. But I Lakers Clippers. It's gonna be great out West China Charming in all night on Twitter is well at Alex's number one. My user name again is at How extremely one. I also have declared the Celtics premature champions of the Eastern Conference. I think they will get past Toronto who, despite it being 32 heading into a game sex and they've proven they're the better team. They've had three blood winds in the bubble against Toronto. 22 points twice. 18 points another time, So I think the bed in Toronto and Jason Tatum, fifth all time now in playoff, scoring an MBA history for players younger than 22 years old. Kemba Walker. You start tonight. Great feeds with the ball Great shot. He established himself early after only taking nine shots in Game four. On the defense of effort for the Celtics was the X factor to wonder Brad Stevens have always been when they're at their best. A high effort. High energy Great defensive team They were tonight. Marcus Smart had a great steel in the fourth quarter. John Brown was good and a big change was Marcus Marc guarded Kyle Lowry, who Was not good in this game. Colorado He was not very good. I think he was gassed largely, but Marcus smart, not make things easy for me, either. I say that to say that Mark Paul Ways it on Twitter. The Celtics can have a let down in Game six. They have and go to a game seven. They have to be consistent. That's true. Cam. Another lapse like they had in Game four. Nick Cohen chimes in it Never count out the Raptor. The Clippers.

"We're going to kick off the show here this evening slashed this morning with some reaction to Tomb or N ba playoff games inside of the bubble. You had one pull out in the Eastern Conference, Celtics Raptor, which the game in and of itself, Not all that interesting unless you're a diehard Celtics fan. You have a blood like that? 1 11 89. I mean, you know, we're talking a 22 point margin of victory. Yeah, not the most interesting game from the game perspective, but I think It's interesting about what it says about the Boston Celtics and where they stand in the Eastern Conference with the Milwaukee Bucks on the cusp of elimination. And in Game two, Nuggets Clippers delivered another great one. Ah, the Westies. Late games rarely disappoint, and this one came down to the wire. The Clippers pulled away in the fourth quarter and One of the commonalities between the two games tonight. Celtics Raptor Clippers nuggets is that the winning teams, the Celtics and the Clippers really won through their defense in crucial stretches. The Celtics held the Raptor to 11 points. In the first quarter. They came out just with incredible effort and really suffocated. What I thought was a tired Toronto team. So Celtics dominated defensively in quarter one and really Ah, never looked back. And the Clippers. In the fourth quarter only allowed 19 points to Denver as well. Kawai had that nasty block on Jamal. Mary was middle finger. That's what I'm gonna do now not give him not flipping you off. I'm giving you the Kawai. Missed. What a rejection. What a rejection there from Jamal Mary. It just quiet is a beast. He and Paul George a great tonight so That's one commonality between the two wins. We'll dive into all of that coming up at the end of the hour. We have Andrew Greiff, who is the Clippers writer for the Los Angeles Times, giving us his insight on Ah, When I think remains the favorite in the Western Conference. Yes, as impressed as I was last night with LeBron and Anthony Davis, and the way the Lakers showed up against the Rockets, not just tied a Siri's, but I think Again. Houston does not have the height to match up with Anthony Davis. When he's playing aggressively in the paint. Nobody can really match up with LeBron James. Russ. I mean about him the rest of the series after what I saw The other night with the turnovers, so it's in miss shots, So it's I'm impressed with the Lakers and remain high on the Lakers. I should say hi and LeBron and a D. Everyone else slides and well below them, but I'm even higher on the Clippers. And I think Denver is a better opponent than Houston. Yokich, the footwork. I mean, talk about his growth, and they showed a graphic on the telecast tonight. About what You know, Yokich looked like Like it was last season. And then this march like March 11th the day before, or the day of the Corona virus, shut down. And now what he looked like when he entered the bubble in July. I mean, Nicolas Yokich looks like a different guy. Always a very skilled shooter, skilled passer. It wasn't easy, All star but just even better and crisper in much more athletic looking since returning to the bubble in July, so I think Denver is a better team. Then the rockets with Clippers. When very impressive, so clippers Lakers don't going out West will be interesting to get Andrew grieves perspective. Andrew Graves perspective. Excuse me. I did it, Andrew Greiff. When the Times get his take their on the Clippers and teams, and he falls on a daily basis now. Of course, much like Rich Herrera, who was filling in for J. R. Before me here. "We're going to kick off the show here this evening slashed this morning with some reaction to Tomb or N ba playoff games inside of the bubble. You had one pull out in the Eastern Conference Celtics Raptor, which the game in and of itself Not all that interesting unless you're a diehard Celtics fan. The Clippers pulled away in the fourth quarter. And One of the commonalities between the two games tonight. So The Celtics dominated defensively in quarter one and really Never looked back. And the Clippers. In the fourth quarter only allowed 19 points to Denver as well. Kawai had that nasty block on Jamal. Mary was middle finger. That's what I'm gonna do now not give him not flipping you off. I'm giving you the Kawai. Just what a rejection. What a rejection there from Jamal Mary. It just Ah Kwai is a beast. He and Paul George a great tonight so That's one commonality between the two wins, We'll dive into all that coming up at the end of the hour. We have Andrew Greiff, who is the Clippers writer for the Los Angeles Times, giving us his insight on Ah, When I think remains the favorite in the Western Conference. Yes, as impressed as I was last night with LeBron and Anthony Davis, and the way the Lakers showed up against the rock, it's not just this Tida Siri's, but I think Again. Houston does not have the height to match up with Anthony Davis. When he's playing aggressively in the paint's. Nobody can really match up with LeBron James. Russ. I mean, I know about him. The rest of the Siri's After what I saw The other night with the turnovers, so it's in miss shots. So it's Ah, I'm impressed with the Lakers in remain high on the Lakers should say Hi and LeBron and a D. That everyone else slides and well below them. But I'm even higher on the Clippers. He was, um He's an All star, but just even better in crisper in much more athletic looking since returning to the bubble in July, so I think Denver's a better team. In the Rockets with Clippers. Here we are, And I can confidently say yes. The Corona virus continues to rage throughout many areas of the country. But I have faith The NFL is going to make this work is going to happen. They're going to do it. We're gonna have NFL football. It's going to start on time. Unlike of course, baseball and no restarts like the N B a N H l on the other leagues. "PM eastern. And we've spent a lot of time today, talking about the NBA and, and their free agency period that is about to come up, and so many of these moves and so many of these players just become interconnected. Because one player in one move of facts, how the movement, you know, ends up going elsewhere. So if Kyrie Irving going from the Celtics to the nets, it appears that he is ready to sign a contract with the nets wants free agency opens tomorrow. So the Celtics knee replacement, Kemba Walker slides, it looks like he's ready to sign a contract with the Celtics once free agency opens tomorrow. But that means for the. Nets, what happens to de ngelo Russell will earlier tonight, we talked with rice, young ESPN, NBA reporter, and he said that the ngelo Russell could potentially option for the Lakers, Dangelo, Russell makes a lot of sense for the Lakers. And while obviously, they're gonna chase the big fish like Hawaii, Leonard, Jimmy Butler, it shouldn't be looked upon as a consolation prize just to get the ngelo Russell. He's a good player in all star caliber player that probably would feel some sort of redemptive factor going back to the Lakers and, and teaming up with those guys. And plus, I think with LeBron already in place. Anthony Davis already in place who at Leonard, clearly puts that team as the favorite in the Western Conference, but there are going to be some fit questions, I think with that kind of group and then plus you have to fill out the rest of the roster. Dangelo russell. I think makes a lot of sense in terms of basketball fit. And also, I think in kind of pecking order fit. Kenneth seems that that's the direction that we're heading is de ngelo end up back in wash Angeles. But I'm curious if other teams start to get into the mix four Russell, Anthony. Once, you know, the Lakers are waiting around here to see what ends up doing. I think the Lakers find themselves in interesting position where if they end up trying to be patient with Kawhi, they could end up losing out on a guy like de ngelo Russell yet. I wonder for us would be a nice fit for a team like the Minnesota Timberwolves for example, but going back to what you said before about or ROY said about Russell. I mean he's twenty three years old. He's matured a lot since the Lakers took him with the number two overall pick. He's coming off an excellent season in Brooklyn. A fun team that the, the, the nets built up and now they're going in another direction. But that's not an on, on de ngelo Russell who, whether it's the Lakers or the timber wolves or somebody else there, they are going to wind up with, with a stud, and while he's not in the same category or anywhere. Close to K D, or, or, or whatever we're spending a lot of time talking about Jimmy Butler, and some of these other players de ngelo Russell may slide into a team like the Lakers and be that, quote unquote, thr- three but it makes it winds. It proven huge dividends and makes maybe a better fit both financially and on the court than somebody like coli, and Katie is somebody who is going to be mentioned with a number of different teams in with the nets looking like they're ready to sign Kyrie Irving and potentially let go of de ngelo Russell. They still have a spot on their roster for another superstar. And we talked with Brian Lewis, who is. The New York Post nets writer. What happens if the nets don't net land, K d-? What do the next do that? At that point, you're looking at Tobias. Harris, Julius Randle possibility. These are the kind of options that you'd be looking at Jimmy Butler is a guy who hiree had talked about playing with that long standing eight talked about that a year ago playing together, and quote taking over the east. So those other some of the options, you could see them looking at if they don't get Kevin Durant. In the nets are looking. This is game ninety SPN radio ESPN app. Siriusxm channel eighty I'm gave nights all along with Anthony Stelter, and the nets have that space. And maybe they signed K D. Maybe they don't mean Katie seems to be one guy that, oh maybe he's going to team up with. Maybe he's going to team up with Jimmy Butler. Maybe he's going to team up with kyri. I mean, the next to Domino's the next logical Domino's for me. If in my brain, the ones that are gonna fall are artesia, K, D, And kunai. But I also feel like those are going to be two of the most patient guys when it comes to their free agency some curious how that affects other teams determining okay, did the meeting go well to the meeting, not go. Well. And just using how they felt the meeting went to determine whether or not they're going to move on to try to sign some of the other free agents who might be out there. Yeah. And if you're the nets, and you bring in Cairo Irving, and, and you're going to renounce diangelo, Russel, and you're going to move him. You wanna. If you want to be proactive and add, yet another superstar, you know, your window is wide open. I don't think I'm stepping out on a limb though by saying that they, they need to add a Katy they need to add a Jimmy Butler, they need somebody to go along with Kyrie Irving, and maybe they have a sense that somebody else's willing to come to Brooklyn after Kyrie Irving signed his deal, I would imagine it, it's not just about Brooklyn. It's not just about Kyrie Irving moving out of Boston After a tumultuous season. He maybe he figured somebody else is going to be there. But, but the nets need another superstar. They've got a nice young collection of talent. They have the space to add two guys, they are on the verge of adding Kyrie. I don't know if they can, if they can afford to be to patient and then miss out on everybody. And then you have kyri along with this, this group of young players, I think they need to be proactive. And if, if Vince available and they can strike, while the iron is hot. They added Jimmy Butler. K D, And now they're set and they can make a deep run here in the Eastern Conference. Of course, superstars teaming up not a foreign concept something they wanna do in Brooklyn, but it's something the clippers wanna do as well because they have some cap space available, and with Kevin Durant, and Kawhi Leonard talking, as if they may want to potentially team up and play together somewhere. The clippers could be one of those landing spots. We talked with Andrew Greiff, who is the LA times, clippers reporter and he let us know what the pitch for the clippers is to Katie. And I think they're going to say, look, we have a bunch of well respected voice, we put together a careful plan. And I think also pointed the fact that west rivers, and their general manager and assistant, general manager all had opportunities to leave this year, but chose to return and a couple of those Baker promotions. I would expect some kind of Lyon thinking to say you know, we've had people think about greener, pastures, and yet they decided to come back. You know what does that tell you? About once like to work here. I could see that being something, that's, you know thrown their way. Of course. Kevin Durant is one of those names that's rumored in a handful of places. We've talked about him, potentially going to the nets we've talked about him potentially going to the clippers. The Knicks are a team that have been brought up in regard to Kevin Durant as well. And Mark Berman of the New York Post. Well, he also talked about Kevin Durant staying with Golden State I do because of the injury, because it was a I always said that extra fifth year Golden State at fifty million dollars is awarded your issue for him. I think a total of fifty seven million dollars total to sign re-signed with Golden State. I think that might look a little more appetizing, but he does want to hear all the teams in order to teams like the Knicks the nets and the clippers make your. Yeah. I think that's just such an interesting part of how patient Katie inquirer going to be Anthony this game night. ESPN radio ESPN app. I'm gave nights along with Anthony Stelter. Those two guys being patient and those two guys not really letting on to anyone or saying anything anywhere to let us know where they're likely going to end up. That's just such an interesting wrinkle in this whole thing to me because of how teams if they're just going to be patient and their KD or coli or bust. They may end up missing out. And then what do you do? Do you end up overspending for some guys to get your salary cap is, is it a one year deal? What do some of these teams do if they miss out on on these guys? Kevin Durant is fascinating, because he, he won in Golden State. You know he he's got his championship. He's one in Golden State, but he's viewed in Golden State as somebody that is along for the ride, when in reality, the warriors went from a. Great team to a dynasty when Katie got there. But, but that's not necessarily, how it's perceived by by many so of K, D goes to Brooklyn are people going to say, well, he just followed kyri, if he goes back to Golden State. I, I actually think he would get kind of a loyal welcome back, especially after the warriors just lost the raptors maybe that perspective changes a little bit no Clin. But if he goes to either the clippers or the Knicks now it's all him. And I think that's, that's the most fascinating thing with Kevin Durant. He can be the guy. It's not Russell Westbrook and K D, And it's not Katie in the Hamptons, five. It would be him. Joining the Knicks it's my team or him. Joining the clippers it's my team and on the guy so it all comes back to what he wants and it's going to be very. Fascinating to see. Katy chooses. Hey, I'm gonna go back to Oakland, and I'm going to try to help help my current team beat down the other super team that's developing out in LA, or is he going to join kyri in Brooklyn or, you know what I wanna be the guy in New York or the guy with the clippers? I that, that I think is the most interesting interesting aspect about Kevin Durant. This is game night, ESPN radio and the ESPN app straight ahead..

"All guests via the shell Pennzoil performance line. Let's head there right now. We're gonna get kind of a beat on the Los Angeles Clippers with Andrew Greiff of the LA times. And Andrew, thank you so much for joining us, and you can follow Andrew at his name Andrew Griffin injury. We talked a little bit about the clippers in conversation to the Knicks in that maybe throughout this, this NBA free agency period, even though their position with so much money. They may not have anybody that's willing to take it. What's your read on the clippers adding star such as Colli or? K. D. You know, those guys are, are so inscrutable in terms of what they're going to do to remarkable degree. I think people across the league have said, it's remarkable that it's this late in the month and is really hard to pick up on the leanings for your guy. And in often that's not the case with Kemba Walker reportedly agreed at Boston, sometimes these things happen. But those two guys are really difficult to pin down. So it the thing that I think is probably encouraging clippers is that they are in play for both of, you know, Kevin Durant, and quite Leonard are both expected to give them an audience this week. And, you know, after a whole year of kind of planning for that best-case scenario signing Katie and her that's that's about, as good news. You can get the clippers. What is going to be their sales pitch to these guys? Because I see, you know, get up with with Greenberg earlier this week and Jalen rose, telling guys not to do it because the clippers are the JV team in the Lakers own Los Angeles. How do they turn that, that perception around and make pitches to these two big time for agents? I think the thing that they emphasize is that they are very been very stable, the last few years ever since the clippers can recycle their office. This was two years ago. Restock the office made it very deep brought up a bunch of well-respected executives. They've had Jerry West that makes St. bombers considered, I think, for my dealers last year, one of the better owners in terms of his commitment, how badly he wants to see the team, win, and Doc Rivers, especially the way coasts here has a lot of cachet. And so I think they're going to say. Look, we have a bunch of what respected voice, we put together a careful plan. And I think also pointed the fact that west rivers and their general manager and assistant, general manager all had opportunities to leave this year, but shows to return and a couple of those big promotions. I would expect some kind of Lyon thinking say you know, we've had people think about greener pastures, and yet they decide to come back. What does that tell you about what it's like to work here? I could see that being something, that's, you know thrown their way. Longside gave nights this game night on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Andrew gripe LA times clippers writer joining us right now via the shell Pennzoil performance line. Art. Andrew, let's say that they miss the clippers miss out on coy. What's the pivot? And do you feel as though that they if they're gonna make a mistake, just in your opinion? What would that mistake be assuming they miss out on Koa? Well, I think the mistake would be having a knee-jerk reaction to missing out on that top top superstar and spending the money just because you have it. But that's something that might understand the is, is not the plan. You know, they, they want to stay financially nimble because they had a really good young core guys. You know, three starters aged twenty two that could potentially be back next year. And they don't really wanna screw goes teacher up by signing. You kind of those really awful long-term extremely lucrative contracts that basically kill teams cap. I don't think like the summer twenty sixteen what we saw a lot of teams do their cap. So I just I think that would be mistake. And every indication, I've got is that they're not going to panic if they don't get one of these guys, they'll find a way to stay competitive with perhaps the lesser stars. And they can do in a wide open west is the hope just to get one of these guys or because Agent, Orange ESPN. NBA insider reporting today, that Kevin Durant. An Kawhi Leonard have talked about potentially playing together. And the clippers are one of the very few teams that would have the ability to do to be able to bring them both on with the cap space that they have. And they would actually have to make another move to get the requisite cap space, and the most likely move right now to free up the money to get to max loss would be trading will Nari, he's gonna be owed about twenty two and a half million dollars next year in the last year of his deal and, and that would be the with one move. He would basically free up the necessary space. So there would have to be a little bit of work done, but I don't necessarily think that would be all that difficult because Gallinari would provide a team and expiring contract for next year, which is an asset. And he's also had his career best year last year. I'm sure there might be some skepticism about his health. Can't keep it out. But he played at the best of his career last year. And I think that opened up a lot more suitors to the pasta. In playing elsewhere. Andrew dry fellow LA times, clippers writer joins us right now here on game night on ESPN radio. It's interesting that you bring up gallon are here if what would be the, the, the best thing for the clippers franchise to trade him. Get that space. And then, you know, you've got space to add a couple of superstars or continue to build not around gallon are per se, but continue to to build the roster alongside him because as you just noted he's coming off a career. Well, I mean, I think than gave a lie detector test. Of course, the clippers would say they'd love to have superstars obviously, I think that Calvo it's not like they're actively at least for minor standing been actually trying to get him off their books. Because again, he did play very well last year you sits well with what they do team likes in worse hard, and he was. I thought I mean there's a lot of talk about Tobias Harris being the best player on the team until he got traded. But I think had equal case for that. He was excellent. So there is not a rush to get rid of him a year ago. It would have been different. I think a year ago because you've been injured for his whole first season team, getting rid of pain would have been seen as a salary down now becomes valuable. So I, I think that they still really like all right about, obviously, if they had not fortuity to sign a Durant. And let at the same time I think you make that move. Point guard Patrick Beverley somebody who also free agent from the clippers. I keep seeing today on Twitter that he's taking meetings in, in a number of different. Places are planning on taking a number of different meetings for free agency officially opens tomorrow at six PM eastern. Is he a priority? Or is he cutting in the background until they figure out what they're going to do in the superstar race? Yeah. I think everything's gonna hinge on the superstars. But he's absolutely right there with them because he was really valuable for what they did last year. And he doesn't have huge capital. They can offer a little bit more than that. So he's definitely someone that they would love to have back because I mean, he was the linchpin last year for a lot of success. It was collective thing how they got that eight seed and push the warriors, six games, the first round, but there was I mean, it was been had multiple times that the clippers after best when Beverly was playing well. So they absolutely want him gave him. They've reached out to representatives today to make sure they have FaceTime with him now wants to be paid. You know, he's thirty years old. He's never really had a big payday in his career. So he wants his money, and he should this might be one of his last opportunity out of big contract. So I'm not sure how that will bad desire will match up with whatever price the clippers are willing to pay or would be willing to pay. But there's definitely interest from both sides about a reunion. He's Andrew gripe. You can follow him on Twitter at his name at Andrew gripe. G. R E F. He covers the clippers for the L A times. Andrew, thank you so much for joining us, and enjoy the free agency action should should be pretty fond of this next twenty four hours. Yeah, we'll be thank you so much. Absolutely right. I mean he starts her gave nights here. One eight hundred flowers dot com Twitter feed at ESPN radio at Anthony Salter at G nights. All sixteen. If you wanna follow us on Twitter, we haven't spent a lot of time about coli just solo. We've been pairing them up with K D in and can they coexist in what would that look like for a team, what of Colli heads, right? Back to Toronto after winning a championship. "Year but it's also time for n._b._a. free agency billboards or ghibli the best time of the year and they're already two of those in so cal and of course they're aimed at kowa leonard according to andrew greiff of the l._a. times there's a king of the north king of so cal billboard and there is a california license plate with kawhi on it so much sure you've seen this yet if you haven't you're not missing anything let's be real they're not the most creative billboards i've ever seen in fact it might be d- leased creative billboards of ever seen trust me who is not looking up from his booze and is desert to check out those boards fact that according to my guest who's coming up next seven kris haines he is planning to opt out and become a free asian also pretty procedural we knew that was going to happen and since that's going to happen you know what that really means right it means kawai is going to be a clipper those clipper bros. we'll be so fired up turn up love you guys awesome up love the guy's awesome is specially when somebody recently tweeted out photos of colli allegedly at home depot allegedly buying box is allegedly and immediately raptor fans started freaking out like kawai is bond boxes no no one buys boxes unless they're moving he's outta here he's already bounced he's jamming us he must be moving quick get some delivers together and a weather man and drake we have to drop a please stay hawaii Track stat. seriously tracking home depot boxes that is some next level stuff right there tracking plane flights is so early two thousands people are now snapping up picks of guys picking up boxes that is next level i mean people need to know and if you need real intel where do you go to get it freaking home depot that's smart that's real that's the choir larmer right there he's gone that's real and so as the freak out when those photos hit he had because coli leonard two time n._b._a. champion in a man worth millions and millions of dollars is going to pack boxes and move himself from canada to l._a. like a kid moving out of a dorm in college because that makes sense look i don't know what this guy is doing i don't know why spine boxes but knowing hawaii's i do which is to say that i don't know him at all he might be buying boxes for millions of different reasons and one of the reasons might just be to mess with all of you after all it is the same guy who was in on the joke about his life and he dropped that on everybody at the parade how and then there is this part of the report from chris hanes quote leonard twenty seven is believed to be seriously considering resigning with the raptors sources say and quote so he might be staying in toronto after all the amazing thing to me about wise free agency is that it starts in less than a week and nobody has any idea what this guy's going to do there have been exactly zero leaks about his plans and today's day and age that's borderline impossible the media the fans other teams they've been all over kawai and his plans for months and yet nobody knows the guy plays his cards so close to his vest they're stuck in his ribs honestly the fact that it's such a secret is amazing quite keeping all of this quiet is almost more impressive than anything he's done on the court so let me say the following i don't know what is going to do because nobody does but but i know what he should do that stay right where he is i mean easy for me to say from thousands of miles away and having absolutely no idea what is life is like there what makes him happy or motivated but it sure seems like he's already in the perfect spot don't get me wrong i'm so counteractive he's a so-called native so cal is awesome the clippers have this energy about them right now in notice we're talking about the clippers and not the lakers because the clippers have a legitimate shot at ham and the lakers don't i must be real about that but when you look at the clippers what do you see you see a team has got some good going on right now a team that battle in the second half of the season and they're serious we're going state you can see why a super estar would want to join doc rivers and those players but to me is a pretty damn cool spot right now he's coming off an amazing season he's worshipped in toronto and pretty much all a canada it's a tremendous organization around him it's incredible front office led by messiah jerry great great coaching staff a deep roster was young talent that feels like it's only going to get better it's amazing fan base it's a great great city oh and he is a world champion again and the organization and the coaching staff into mazing job in dealing with his load management they managed his minutes perfectly to allow him to come back from injury and remain fresh for the postseason again i've got no idea which in this guy's head or what's in this guy's heart the probably three people on the planet who do but i know this he's in the right spot and i don't think there's a better place for him again that organization the coaching staff and the roster so good the choir was able to come in and do his thing from the outset they need to seize new adjust they didn't need a season to get up to speed they got up to speed in a hurry and there is no guarantee that he can replicate that anyplace else oh and one more thing the jack there is that they can offer him in additional year and fifty mil more than anybody else can listen i understand that if anybody may not be all about the paper it's probably this guy but fifty mill is fifty mill and i don't see too many people leaving that kind of money on the table but again it's not just the money it's the money and the fact that there really is not a better situation out there for him when he has right now he's call his life his legacy but if i were him i'm gonna take max contract and stay where i'm worshiped in where i just wanna world championship and with an organization that gets me what do you think this guy's gonna do what do you think that this guy should do what's going to happen chris hanes had that story he'll join me in about ten minutes from right now one eight hundred six three six "But even if his in their ten minutes, he's proven to be a guy who can score double digit points. Locked couple shots and keep opponents in rim. So what were you doing in Oregon covering the blazers the ducks organ? What was what was your job at? They're actually covering college football. I was at the Oregonian in Portland and working ducts football was the thing around a lot. Although in the in the playoffs last year. I did get to fall around the trailblazers, and that was kind of a nice introduction to what the NBA like. And this is obviously now I'm jumping in with both feet, but mostly the last five years. So is this your first time covering the NBA full-time? Absolutely. Yeah. Okay. So the Portland is a one MBA team. Right. The blazers. That's it in that city. Most of these elected you come to LA they have to teams, but nobody's gonna lie here the LA times and everybody else it's LeBron LeBron LeBron some drama with the Lakers more LeBron LeBron LeBron. And then the Lakers have couple beat writers have columnists. Everybody's the attention there. It seems like you're alone with the clippers tells that world, you know, it's it is an interesting dynamic because this is being a major Mia market, which alone is transition for me. But to have a franchise that hungry for the spotlight and knows that it's not going to be a big story. See how they'd gone about this kind of just saying we're just gonna let our play determine who takes notice. So it's been interesting for me. Actually, I've enjoyed it a lot because it means there's not a whole lot of national media around the team or even local media. And so I feel like in the last six weeks or so in a lot of time where I've had opportunities to kinda gets no the clippers, and that's been really valuable. So for me selfishly, I'm fine with it. I think the team obviously would love to get a lots more coverage especially when they're playing right now. But it's been great for first time beat writer in the NBA. So when you're covering Oregon, duck football, it's a big deal. Right. Everybody's like asking you all kinds of questions, and you can't get enough. Right. Because there's so much exposure out there, right? Yeah. That's the biggest probably the most passionate fan base in the state of Oregon is ducks football. I was just going by our readership. When I was covering the team it was much higher than than blazers or even Oregon state beavers coverage. So that felt like I guess in analogy is the Lakers of Oregon where just in terms of the media presence. It's probably four times the size of the media who regularly run the clippers. So again, it's kind of been an interesting thing to walk into this beat where you have a lot of opportunities to tell really unique stories I feel like it's been a great gift. So far the big man the big shot covering the ducks. You're from Oregon why go to LA? I mean LA times is one of those spots that if they ask you if you late to join you have interest from my point of view, I don't know there's any way you say, no. So I thought that covering a major team for the LA times. I don't know how you could have had me sign quicker to join. I mean, it was just great opportunity in. Field. And I was extremely excited to get it. So that was a no brainer in my wife's family's from southern California. It also I don't know if you know, this also rains a lot in order. Definitely didn't enjoying California for that to the sunshine. As in that you leaving because you don't want anymore rain. I don't blame you sprinkle soon. I'm really concerned about my driving. Andrew Greiff from Oregon now covering the clippers. What's it like just going around with one of the better teams in the Western Conference where in the rest of the country, they pay attention to loom is quiet. What's that vibe? Like, yeah. You can kind of feel the attention growing. I think there are signs that outside media are taking notice I think they were ranked number one in the NBA dot com power rankings this week. So you are starting to see that it's not just kind of fun cute story anymore..

"Now, the clippers team close to my heart. When all ten eleven years old, I got to play on the court sports arena. Billy crystal was in the lower bowl. So you kind of pull for that underdog. The clippers aren't getting a lot of headlines right now because it's LeBron the Brown the Braun Lakers, Lakers, but the standings one of the better teams in the Western Conference. Andrew Greiff is in LA for the first time covering the clippers the new beat writer for the Los Angeles Times joins us now. Yeah. How you joined the clipper beat it's been really enjoyable, actually, obviously it helps when they are eleven and five, you know, they've won five in a row that makes things in the locker room, obviously, pretty light. But I think it's an interesting group to be around because there's not really this true, quote unquote, superstar there's a lot of very good players in a very deep bench of good players behind them. But there's not that one kind of transcendent player who everybody kind of falls in line behind. It's really interesting lesson. In almost group dynamics, we're watching unfold over the last month of the season. So who would be the biggest name, you know? I think if you would buy long jevon the league into new low going Ari who's been doing this for ten years in the NBA, of course, has been hurt for a long time. But he has the biggest contract, and I think he had a pretty good reputation coming in for being a score more recently. I think Tobias Harris though, could be a guy who would maybe the guy. You would think could be the biggest star because he's. Scored fifteen points in every game this season after he got traded to LA from Detroit last year in the Blake Griffin trade. It looked really good and his comeback even stronger this year. So I think he's got potential case to be an all star. But after that you'll the biggest name is really a fan favorites. Ianovich? How'd you on Mariano? So Why why would? would? Three. And he is a delight. Oh, do tell. He's just I don't think I've ever seen him have a bad day. I mean, this this is obviously we're out around him, very often shoot arounds and practices and games. But you talked to anyone on the team and they described him as just one of the most joyous teammates. They've ever seen in a locker room, and you go. Okay. We'll tell me more, and they say that he does not wind. He does not worry about minutes. He just comes in and like can score twelve points in ten minutes and just be highly effective and even great Popovich, a guy know Spurs coach who is famously surly I asked him about Boba on a couple of weeks ago. And he said that what was one of the favorite player has ever been around. And that just goes to show you the kind of the reputation on the league. Yes. Where do you come from? He came from Serbia originally as first year all only four years ago in the NBA was with the Spurs. He went to Detroit after that for season half. And the story goes Popovich had to explain. That free agency was coming and on had a three million dollar offer from the Spurs to retain him or Twenty-one million dollar offer from the pistons and Popovich has said that he basically told bovine you need to take this. You have to go since he's been in LA everyone around him just loves him. I think Doc Rivers is still trying to figure out when and how to use him best..
