"That's like the ideal realistic. Adding sweet spot is a little higher than that so like if the afc south winds up being similarly bad. I don't think anything. I don't think any divisions really going to be as bad as the east was last year but if it's similarly bad like close at least where these teams are kind of like hovering around five hundred for most of the season and you get to like the final month of the season at that point. He's gonna pass those thresholds the seventy or seventy five percent or whatever that he needs to play presented snaps that that he needs to play in order for you know. Go from two one. If like you get to that last month of the season and everyone's hovering around like five hundred and then they on a losing streak that last year that last month which isn't out of the question You know they can wind up with like you know the tenth overall. Pick for example. I think that's like the absolute best case scenario but I think you're probably right. The more realistic best cases. You know like like you said around fourteen fifteen but if they don't make the playoffs you as soon be anywhere between like fourteen in like in one thousand nine or whatever When i wrote about that earlier this week to some people are asking like. Do you think will win. I guess basically do you think they'd be aggressive about points. And i don't think so. Like if it comes down to valuing where they're picking or hit the relationship with more. I would think like they're gonna value if it's like close whom i don't think they're going get too cute with that. I think they would slew. Maybe describe i think they would lean towards like we don't wanna we wanna keep this relationship healthy we don't want to like towards blow up this relationship because once it's going to be pretty mad. He's getting benched. I mean if he deserves it then. Then that's just you can't do anything about it but like do we have oracle precedent on him being mad about getting back. Probably get into that later and one of the questions. Who's our backup by the way the colts isn't it. Sam are.

Why Black Entrepreneurship Surged During the Pandemic

"Is of course the one year anniversary of the murder of floyd in a year of protests and reckoning there have been signs of hope even during a pandemic that hit black americans particularly hard and closed many black owned businesses new data suggests that people in black communities started new businesses over the last year in cities like new york and atlanta the study from the national bureau of economic research says. Black americans were more likely than white americans to take steps toward entrepreneurship. during the pandemic marketplace's euler has more on. Why so the study found that. After a relief package is passed last year. There was a big surge in registered business formations in the following weeks. Catherine facia teaches business at boston university and helped write the study. She says that's despite the cares. Act not directly infusing. Any money into new businesses are passed not to pat is a lot of start up formation so it was very interesting for us to see that cares out had that ripple of fat another reason for the surgeon. Black entrepreneurship could be the americans. Now have a better understanding of historic inequality or he goes. Mom is an assistant professor of management at columbia university and a co author of the study. There's being clear intends in banks and government to make sure all the financial reports out this year. Which is wachner hurts. And andre perry says that speaks to a bigger lesson to be learned from this study about access to capital. He's a senior fellow at the brookings institution. If you really want to see the economy grow figure out two ways to invest in the under appreciated assets in our community in that happens to be black and brown communities it happens to be black and brown entrepreneurs he says black people represent about fourteen percent of the population in the us but only two percent of all businesses with more than one employee this investment and black businesses. He says shouldn't be a pandemic induced

NBA Playoffs: Phoenix Suns Beat Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1

"Lakers phoenix suns with an emphatic. Ninety nine hundred game one win that they control from start to finish and you know what when we talk about the lakers. We usually get a lakers perspective. Someone from l. a. No two sons one game one. Let's get someone from phoenix. The first person. I thought it was the one and only eddie johnson. How are you sir day. I mean that's not being in the playoffs the so long. I can't even remember zach and i wake up this morning and we're gonna win the series. They can't be any better than this house. The arena. You know what i watch it on. Tv to be quite honest with you. I work i work so much is like when i get an opportunity to just listen to somebody else. Do a gain the replays. And everything i just feel like you know is so much more up close and personal for me but when i heard about buddies told me said it was just unreal eighteen thousand although they listed there's about ten six but it seemed like it was eighteen thousand so it was packed. Ready and people were partying outside so fun. Time right now saying we haven't experienced this long time. So we had a kerfuffle and ejection. Chris paul hurting his shoulder and and using a jump shot form. That was clearly not his normal form will have to monitor that going forward so it was an eventful game. The sun's sort of told the world. Hey we're here drayton. i'm here. i'm the. I'm the biggest guy in the floor. Andre drummond bigger than me. But i'm gonna play like the big sky devon booker. i'm ready you're gonna have to double me straight up hard double me like luka doncic. What surprised you about game one. What was something that stood out that maybe you didn't expect surprise me about the suns team. This is a team that i've been seeing all year long. I've been trying to convince the on. Tell them they are real deal. They are team. Personify one to fifteen. Every one of those guys are prepared. Money is a great job with them. They have confidence. they did. Not surprise me.

"Those treatments are very specialized only a very small subset of the patients. So we're talking like 1% of the kids may have it and they only treat them when they are two or three years old before the show any signs of the disease. So it's not something that somebody who already is in a wheelchair would benefit from right and that's what I tell my students. This is what we can make a difference. I those folks that are doing that kind of research that is amazing. Maybe one day they'll prevent any kid from getting sick right are millions of people out there who are going to be sick with this disease and we might be able to have an impact by birth. Turn it down or or sort of reverting something, you know to help them. So once the damage is done to the muscle then that's it. There's no repairing it. Right, right. Yeah, and that's one of the tragic thing is that even some of the repair Machinery that the muscles normally have. For example, when you go to the gym when you engage in any type of exercise you do in doing some type of Micro damage to your muscle, right and your muscle has this amazing Machinery that allows it to heal itself and to grow and that's how people bulk up when they go to the gym basically, right? However, that is targeting more the engine part of the of muscle that the part the contract the part makes the force not the part that withstand those forces. And so some of the the the ways that muscles try to cope with the damage for example inflammation and some of these steps that any tissue that you have we'll try to to basically said Is said chain of events to kind of overcome the damage that has happened people have come up with the idea that this is actually making things even worse. So some of the amazing that is available for patients with muscular dystrophy aren't actually treating the disease but treating the response of the body to the disease, right? So anti-inflammatories like, you know, things like that. These are things that are not really targeting muscular dystrophy, but rather what the muscle is doing now that it's breaking right right. It's more like alleviating the symptoms rather than the ride like in the symptom is really the muscle trying to cure itself, but it's just not working out and there are a number of things that we have them in order to folks in in our lab also have seen that kind of makes this more tragic, you know, and so one of the things that happens when the muscles break Is calcium which is you know, probably familiar with it. Many things is a very important component of all right, right positive. Right and we use it for signaling thought. Oh, yeah. I like the cat shown in the forecast. Maybe you can take a picture but you know this the kind of calcium is important for the Masters to contract in muscular dystrophy. One of the things that happens with the muscle break is that the the stores will discuss humans being kept safely get out of the way get broken and costume kind of leaks and goes everywhere and that leads to the muscle becoming hyper contracted because the calcium is the one that decides now the month contract and so now you have a muscle that it's week, but it's also Contracting when you shouldn't be contracting and you know, Kelsey mm because the calcium is their birth And not only that but when you're moving around if you think of your arms or your legs you have sets of muscles are act in a position to each other. Right? So you're bisexual tracks your tricep relaxes in your arm. Right? And so one muscle contracts the other.

"Foot should be a more important topic even on the presidentials well and it's going to become a bigger challenge given the climate change that we're experiencing parts of the world in which In which the reliable food sources are going to be threatened by changes in the climate for example in Haiti. I have a big project that I've been going down and down where I have these farm and we provide the best civils to a school nearby in the middle of the mountains from Barrett Stampa. And they've been trying to drill. Go Down to look for water and we cannot time water. It's dry part of the island is technology. We're GONNA have to mesmerizing technology. Where investing in these machine that he's not able to provide more than fifty gallons of water per day. Only straddling the humidity of the air. That technologies there. We're going to have to more to invest quicker to Invest Pastor to make sure dad precisely those problems become opportunities if there we have. No water is a good way to do it. Using solar energy we can be bringing water to that little town in the middle of Nowhere Haley. If I'm able succeed there I'll be able to succeed. You know the parts of the world again. Repeating the problems are huge but we start breaking them down in a smaller. I'm we start building from there. Then we can sell very much any big challenge that humanity faces so again. I listen to you and I'm wondering like what what gives you more satisfaction a thing like the the the enormous task that you undertook in Puerto Rico and cooking. I guess it's for millions at this point. Millions of meals served Or OPENING UP. A new restaurant. Well I think we all phases moment. Noise probably went. Where when you laugh whatever you were doing used to surf and trying to to to put Mr Obama in the White House. You had role to play like many many others. I think my role on the role of chefs. Yes I feed a few. I have to start Michel in. I WANNA have three. I WANNA be in the lease of the fifty best of the world that my restaurant is not yet. I hope one day it will be all those things. Yes judges are listening. I well yeah but I'm not trying to buy those things are important but you know one thing. I have so many amazing young talent around me that I think I've been doing this for over thirty years. I don't mind to passing many of those things to them and start pouring them on the front on the forefront I myself I'm forty eight by the Damn I'm fifty Brawley. I'm going to be more and more and more into these Into these raw pro. Yes why because it fulfills not not not not my personal needs but I think we need to be showing that if we want we can who was meant to be saying that A young kid was fifty. You're all could be dreaming about all those crazy things. But they've seen many people before me. Achieving amazing things with nothing. Clara Barton US happened. Had Her house in front of maybe twenty three years old and knowing that in that little house in front of my restaurant that women very much was able to show us what be no money. -Tarian looks like and somebody that was known was able thanks to our hard work to create Red Cross with the so many wonderful things redcross has done over a century is and I think if we can. We all should put our effort helping if he's only one person to our right. That's one more person that he's going to be doing better of thanks to help. So I think is the role of every American and every person on this planet to try to do for others. You the know what you will do for your family. I think these is the new American dream and I'M GONNA make sure that my daughter's receive the America. I always love on the wall. We all dream of where we should note that as we sit in Chicago today. You're here because you received the two thousand eighteen humanitarian of the year award from the James Beard Foundation. I don't have to explain why you receive that award. Anybody who's listening to this conversation knows that but part of what you said there was. I want you to see the world's greatest challenges not as problems but as opportunities for us to serve hunger poverty environmental destruction an equal treatment of women in the workplace and immigration reform for the millions of hardworking immigrants who feed America and make our country great especially the dreamers and the more than eleven million undocumented that deserve to be part of the American dream that that is that your agenda for the for your next your next act. I think it's GonNa be a busy schedule. But you understand beg undergrads of Wrath said Yang told the main characters at the whatever whenever there is a fight so hungry people will eat. I will be there. I think trace users sums up everything I think. He's not anymore. Though about the I said what we the people are. Three powerful wards. Ju Ju Ju on this point Do you think how the people affected you. Who've who've come into contact with people that people in Puerto Rico the people at the at the DC kitchen the people who you've touched and who touched you over all these years. Every one of those people have some amazing stories and what happens in our society sometimes. Is that in a moment? We were talking about the building a wall to separate America from the rest. Sometimes we don't need to build walls. We have walls in communities where we are in cities that we don't cross the river and we don't go to the site because the people over there they are not like the people here and we need to Reagan. Those wolves I'm when you are able to cross a bridge I'm reach though so that people that maybe then talk like you. Maybe they'll look like you and then you see them that they they have the same dreams you have and they same hopes for the children and you see that all of the time when you reach them and they redo together you become more powerful. It's so simple that idea. That's why America has done so well because he may grants like me. We are those bridges. We're breaches of uniting faraway places and show people that we are far far more more equal than not an in the moment we see these. You're Republican and Democrat. You can be whatever you want. But you'll respect each other and you believe that together we're going to be stronger and in the moment you arrive to that simple conclusion. Everything is simple. Does why maybe we need to have more chefs in the Senate and Congress. Because you'll be a beautiful table like this one where everybody will be sharing. Played The food and right. They're having conversations about how we should be investing more time in. What brings us together. The not even makes us different and breaks apart and this is a type of shit we need in Washington. This is the diaper of leadership. We need our communities What about you you can move across the border to one of those states that actually has representation in the United States? Senate run yourself. Actually I bought in Maryland. All right good well. I break in Maryland but I think we need to start fighting for Washington DC. Where the six hundred fifty thousand American citizens? They're finally on. I think I'm GonNa sit in my lifetime. I one day. I think one day we're going to have to go congress and say you know one thing you want to eat out. I don't think you're GONNA eat you. Don Give us the same rights that others leverage my friend. I I think maybe we started something here. I'm going to go one way. We now restaurants open Because it's very hard I would say that a Washington does a half true representation. You actually did close you. Restaurants down for a day to protest The policies on immigration. I actually we. We'd began only because my team came to to tell me who said don't get upset with us but we would not come to work or would combo. We will not do anything. I'm we don't need you to pay for anything but I want you to know that we are doing this so I then do it on my own initiative but I did it supporting Dan December. They've been supporting. How did you? How did you patrons react? Everybody was super supportive and then I I believe that if one day they migrants and especially the undocumented and I think this may help the come together on one day they say women stop doing anything until you don't recognize. We are that we are not ghost in the system but real people contributing to the American dream. Say how we will not be able to play in any golf course who we will not able to eat in any restaurant who we were able to go to supermarket because the shelves would be empty. You'll see what will happen. So that's way migration reform should be something like Abrahamic Republican or Democrat. Should be supporting what time we make up. Well let me just say this. You Sir are a great American and Not just a great story but such an asset to our country and I I'm I'm proud to know you proud of what you're doing proud of the difference that you're making and grateful that you're here today. Thank you for having me on. Let's keep this conversation of one played the foot of the time kind of self big challenges we face we do. Thank you for listening to the X. "Thing that has made you. Such a noteworthy figure in Washington isn't just that you have wonderful restaurants patronized all of them when I was. I was in the city and I thank you for it. but But that you also have been deeply deeply involved in the community the when I first heard about you was about your role in the DC central kitchen explain that what DC central kitchen is in your involvement in it. Well this isn't. Tradition is a place that gave me also hope for a better tomorrow. These was founded on president. Bush inauguration day by a man called rubber egger legendary. He was a fireman he saw that was a love waste of food going on. Iran. The restaurant industry. He's the AWA's food waste is wrong but Dini's is worse wasting people so he got those untouched. Plates of food on inauguration day on Bra brought them all to a central kitchen. He began getting homeless cleaning them. Given them a sense of belonging by finding them place to leave and training them to be cooks they will be in charge of pulling those together and leaving the volunteers that began coming into the kitchen. And then sending that foot the communities This isn't today. It's probably more than eight thousand people. A day has employ and train thousands of men and women. This is the new way to the people who were trained. Going on to find on. There are many success stories and this is the venue they are. We need to be messing. Ngos that we've done throw money at the problem but we embed into solutions on. Broberg always said that charity seems was always about the About the redemption of Gaber versus what should be which is the liberation of the receiver. And we need to start seeing that in the twenty first century and years like that they need to be really investing the dollars and knowing what the return on Investment East in our case the returnees we feed people. And we're trying Homeless an ex convicts that all of the sudden become a very important shady robberies in La Kitchen right now in in Los Angeles doing the same amazing work in the heart of La and thanks to him is hundreds of other kitchens that they've opened all across America. And how much time do you spend on the on the kitchen in DC whine? Del Days that will go like one. More cocaine user `tatoes. I became the chairman dummy. Why and I always try to be a good essay. Call cheerleader. I do a lot of work on on on making sure. Everybody's aware of them making sure that Congress is aware of them on making sure that we keep racing. Good money when he's needed to make sure that those our organizations can moving forward and now you've taken the concept global With the world central kitchen that began in two thousand ten with after the earthquake in Haiti would tell me how that came about. Well I think from my navy times that watching happening I began and in the Fabella real yet ruin. I always wanted to do something I in those type of places. I was on vacation on Cayman Island. When ended two thousand ten at quick heat? The per prints on a had. These two to go on. I try to help but more the helping. I learned that you need to learn so few weeks after I use when they're nice. Spend almost a couple of weeks cooking from camp to camp but mainly was my beginning of learning. How come we be helping in those situations? And what are we done? What are we not doing that should be done? And there is when I fall in love very much with the potential of habeas country and now we have many projects like one of them is. This is cool that we train. Young Woman We take them out of the streets. Were there cooking. Sometimes in use made up rest runs in the middle of nowhere. We've charcoal cook stoves and we'll bring the mean. We train them to be we. We we elevate their English profile and then we find their jobs in the in the in the Neil thriving restaurant hotel community which is going to be part of the future. Heavy he's beautiful country with amazing story and I think if anything to really is a very important economica development for the country and who does the training I mean? Who are the people who go in that we have We have a laugh If you go to our war with Beige Wall Center kitchen that door there. You're going to see that. We have an amazing group of talented chefs men and women that they are very much part of our volunteers but obviously we have a very good group. Those guys I know you've got Anthony. Bourdain Kalicki Oh and well those guys do all the buff. Some of them use. Bring money by doing charities. I have I'm about to do what I see a big one that they do every year around the that we close more than thirty restaurants that this Corden Dash I bring Andrew Simone and were then Khaliqyar and helps raise money. I'M NOT GONNA lie to you. But then they are also involved in showing up when there. We need people to to be helping one of the big projects we did. We change hundred schools from charcoal to LP Wisey so important because everybody's talking to end hunger by the year twenty thirty. That's a big lie. Ain't gonNA happen. The main reason is not going to happen. He's one of the problems of the United Nations. Millennium Goals is that until we don't provide every family every woman we clean kitchen the same one that you and I have a home so we lieber them from their daily ties of having to be cooking with charcoal. Charcoal is killing more than four million women every year. Charcoal make the kitchen healthy because the mothers carrying them on their arms young girls. Don't go to school because they send them to the forest to cut wood when the families too poor to buy charcoal so they don't receive education rank calms deforestation. The rains come down. The mountain takes away the top soil. Supposed to be bringing in a new Happy Harvest all of this and that that same Dirt and some the ocean no coral reef because the water is cloudy. No Fish nocona wreath. Now hotels notorious NAS divy off from Sharko all of the sudden we give them a humble. Gagen. The mothers are healthy. They save money and they put it on their pockets helping the local economy economists to become richer jungles halftime to receive proper education. The forest thrive the harvest multiply by ten. They Ocean is healthy and the fishing output increases to recent shows up an all because of Berry humbled Cook Stove. We need to be bringing the conversation of Cook Stoves for were Hunger and poverty part of the money you raise for these pyro fed. I have two roles. I am the ambassador of the alliance finco soaps I was named by Secretary Clinton and I took that role really seriously so I go all around the world bringing awareness to too many countries and then I need also not only talker but the door and so through my was central kitchen. We make sure that clean. Kuchen is at the heart of everything we do on. Let me tell you so far. We are doing very good. Berry Berry Berry Berry good successful programs but I only see that Dick Lincou subpeona be listening more and more because he's the only way forward you. You also responded More recently to the tragedies in Texas and then Puerto Rico. This was another one of those things where you just felt called when you when you. When the disaster struck so hurricanes and floods mighty monarch. We've been going to many not only there but then we were in New York Sandy. We were in many other hurricanes in Haiti. So I guess doing the same thing. Yeah we've been doing the NBA. Let me put it this way. I was going to tell me that. Yes Houston with. Almost a quarter million meals was able to bring with me over one hundred thousand pounds of chicken and beef and we gave them their to convention center. I heard on your on your way to Houston. You stopped at target and bought out there. Some Pasta redcross gave me a mission and I was not successful because the place they want me to arrive with surrounded by water and this is when I get very like next time I have to have a car. That is a boat so we we're going to that kind of but yeah that that's that's where you have to. Sometimes when they took a beating in that the Red Cross for the way that disastrous. He knows that was that warranted based on what you saw. Well the men and women of Red Cross Day date only can receive my compliments because they are amazing they leave everything behind and used it. Go to surf. Fellow Americans what they think everybody would agree. Is that we need to make sure that the bigger from FEMA to Salvation Army to Red Cross that they are more ready to provide help when Americans are in need of help. Because he's why we put our faith them sending them a paycheck. It's a dollar or one hundred million. We sped them to take care when I arrived to Puerto Rico and I told my wife I will be there. Five days I write on Monday three days after Maria hit and by Sunday. I hope I would be home. Aung by Thursday night. I realized that was not the plan to feed the NYLAND. That was not only a few thousand people to go hungry. We were talking like the entire island was about to run out the foot. The foot was on the island the private sector. My friend works like amazing. What was not working was used a consensus in how star providing that eight on. We went from one kitchen on twenty volunteers undone Monday. Thousand Meals to more than twenty thousand volunteers in more than twenty three kitchens and more than one hundred fifty thousand minutes per day I think up to today an organization that was never supposed to be there that we had only two people in peril and less than a million dollar budget a year for many projects around six countries We are about to reach four million hot meals surf. You didn't. You didn't tell me when you actually did get home after telling your wife you'd be home in five days well I. I came back almost two weeks later. I'm mainly because I- dehydrated myself and I I got a couple of trouble a hit myself against the rocks crossing a river and I'm not a millennial anymore so I had to go by home to three days to fix myself but the team already was amazing. We went from having no plan to really having these master-plan in power held by the army Engineers that they got me these a mason virtual map upper rico and there was two ambition the possible dream if Dyer Island is hungry because they have no money. Atm's Banks Close. They have no no no electricity. No gas stations because nobody can pump. Nobody could move. Nobody could talk on the phone because all the cell signal were gone. We are toying. We're talking about real chaos. No one day but for month foot was something like nobody had at one point and the only thing we did was. Can we bring food to the most of quantity of Americans Eric? I'm we said where I once foot in the six thousand People Island Collaborative Thousand People. We're ABLE TO BRING WATER TREATMENT. Solar run machines We began bringing medicines because we we gather so much in one neighborhood at the time that we knew not only the people were hungry but dispersion needed this medicine. This person the needed these these meals. You provide them on an ongoing basis. It wasn't like a hit and run kind of every time we made contact with one. We began serving the hospitals the first days because the hospitals had food for the patients but not for the doctors and the nurses and what was issued that the doctors and nurses were working. Twenty four seven. I'm what was the issue that they had money if they had money. They are no restaurants on if they hadn't Under supermarket were empty and sometimes the lines were two three four hours to go and they only will let you buy one of two things. What were you thinking when you you couldn't have anticipated what you confronted there And you mentioned all of these Americans who were going who are starving and You know the important word here is American Caesar American citizens you just recently become an American citizen yeah. I became American almost three years ago.

"American cities in the wake of covert nineteen. Here's my conversation with Jose Andres. Jose Andres so good to see you my friend. You know this is what we know about you. You have a sense of justice. You have a sense of fairness you have a sense of obligation to help People but it all began with a sense of smell. That's what I've learned it back in In the day in northern. So let's start there and how you became so enamored of cooking. They super thrilled to be here. And do you have many chefs coming to these? You know what? I'm probably your all your only the tenth eleventh chef. We've had nothing. You're blazing the trail for us. Some spending more in the years to come. Yes I'm if if they are socially active chefs they get they get to jump to the front line. So you know Michael Levin call when I was fourteen th but for making always Sainsbury early on why was so important. Listen I was born in Studios Mining area in a tiny town communities and northern Spain yet Super Green love cows rebours sal moaning spring But we need to remember. That is Spain. I grew up in Restaurants were luxury. Everybody had to cook a home. Everybody will go for the bread every morning. If you ate fees you will go to the fish monger. Everything was daily. Their refrigerator was full. You would buy for the day. Those were the days and my mother or my that they will always be. The ones who does away was I still remember the end of the month when already was not the love with love around home on many of the leftovers will be used for making the meals like protas. Those chicken fritters that today. I cannot believe I charge two three dollars. Each those were the the hunger dishes. The word those were the dishes like one of my father was waiting for the next BIG CHECK. My mother will be able to multiply wherever was left. And it's funny. I never remember the biggest stake moment or the big fish. I remember all the dishes that my mother made during the last week of the month with almost nothing and those are the dishes that sometimes attach made too much. And why did I understand? Why the the the tastes and in the foods appeal to you but excuse me the preparation of it. Why why were you so into that? Listen them watching us. My mother win indication and and US going in and give her a hand that to me probably was the highlight of of the day for me. I C it'll have the romance of those roasted red peppers that then she would stay with garlic and olive oil. I should man. We're never I'm going to have to move them now or we suffer sweet. A touch of Sherry vinegar at the end dose. Peppers is still I. Try to recreate with memories. A half of this Mel's of the romance of putting the finger if she was not watching mom and that you will bring that data finger of something fell. I was distilling. It always stays so much better. She's still living. No my mom. My mom was a nurse. She buys a year and a half ago What did she think about your career and your success while they were always very very proud of Cindy's boy came very much America with fifty dollar and and so how managed to to have to have a restaurant and then to and and everything else obviously mother and father's therapy already. I think in my leg who's counting right. Yeah so did. She approve of the taste did you. Did she think you were doing it right or did you say you know what not quite up to snuff? No she was like every mother Now my daughter they will only give you enough credit. So you you you. You had to push yourself harder. I think that's key on life. I think family members if anything they need to be honest with you and and many of our family structures I think yes given support but also pushing everybody for were no not not saying everything is okay. You have to push harder to convince everybody that you could be the best chef. And What Does Your Dad do? My father is retired now. Another no then. I North Aisle suing the hospital. So I was born in studios but we move very early on to Barcelona so even if he's Spain a stress on Barcelona in the province of Catalonia. They are two different things Like Alaska and Florida. Yes I always felt. I was always an immigrant because moving into Catalonia woes different language different way of living different ingredients different foods so you will say Spain more country but is saw. Mason Hobart early on. I always learned that very much. We are all immigrants in the moment. We move away from the place we were born. Catalonia is obviously the the seat of a lot of unrest right now. What do you make of what's going on in Spain when I wrote the OP-ED for The Washington Post from his heart because I feel Very proud of Spain I feel very proud of where I was born in the region. Asturias but then I feel very very catalan. I speak on bright fluent Catalan. Many of my family members are Katelyn on. We have different points of view on me. I try to be a man of inclusion. Wins the day I cannot understand how Catalonian especially catalans that they use. One BURP one ward. Call saying Sanyo Katelyn as E. N. Y. Saying is common sense on if you ask any Katelyn. Every by the will always describes themselves as people of saying beloved the best commonsense on the face of Earth. And so how? I don't know where that sank has gone because nobody wants to be borrowed. If some people don't want to be part of his Spain I respect if they they don't WanNa be speaking of Spanish. I respect but what I another respect is that they are not respecting the bigger majority the UCLA people on the streets and to be this that everybody wants independence. It's kind of a prom. Not just all over Europe but here as well you know everybody has sued absolutist opinions and even if they're in a minority that's tough democracy If if the minorities unwilling to accept but we need leaders. Don Try to bring people to the streams does leaders that want to break away from the rest of Spain. They claim that the Spain he suppressing Catalonia and only going to be giving these facts cut down on the speaks its own language and he started in every single school ninety percent of the time. Catalonia has many newspapers in Catalan. Catalonia has more than one hundred radios in Catalan moisture. Watch movies theater. Catalonia has its own police. Catalonia has seven DB stations owned by the Catalan government. Catalonia has the biggest level of independence of any region in Europe so we can have leaders that keep selling the story. That Catalonia is being embraced by Madrid when Actually Catalonia is one of the most amazing regions anywhere in Europe anywhere in the world where the economy thriving were immigrants. They've been arriving and they've been that were catalans are Catlin's but then everybody else. Whatever they want to be adopted into they got the only way of living very much like America. So almost what? I see some of those leaders that warns independence from Spain. You sound like a Catalan trumpism. let's use breakaway. We've with everything why because we have to break no has to be a reason why you want to break is noble breaking. So what improving on Catalonia anger improving or Hispanic by having Alania moving away from the rest of his return to your story you join you joined the navy Why did you join the navy? Well Spain the military service was mandatory. But probably was the best thing ever happened in my life again. I leave school early. Young Fourteenth Fifteenth and then. You say okay granted and was because I've been throughout my life. Six six month was the admiral on the boat as well but was willing to part with your cooking. That's how much his wife I'm done. I still remember her. His wife is screaming. What what you've done in this house. I mean well but it was able to on the boat and his first time it came so the walled Ivory Coast and Brucie than the cut even for stymied so American shore on happened. We went to Pensacola. The city that celebrates that amazing day the five flags were happened. One of them was the CASTILLIAN. Spanish flack that day. I thought of short span belongs to America and who was going to tell me that after his military service I came back to mark. Who is the first person that's almost comes through the doors? Senator Patrick Moynihan no kidding on through many conversations giving one of them when they told me who say if you love America America will always love you back and that's the only thing what made you. What made you decide to open up a restaurant there? Because as you point out it was it was pretty down on its luck neighborhood until the arena was built and well at the time. I was used Young Twenty three years old. I came the head chef by Mike Partners. Who FOUND ME? Roberto Alvarez who? He became the domain Dominican Republican by southern in the United States rogue wider. They're the ones that gave me the opportunity to to to have a place to belong. "Chef Jose Andres has a deep respect for Puerto Rican food, but as with so many foods across cultures. There's always the chance that food that people once thought of as low brow will suddenly become cool. The thing to eat. I picked up my conversation with chef on talking about food gentrification. Listen, I drink sometimes when we talk about anti fry I cannot even pronounce it. Okay. But you know, what? I mean, right. We over think it was the best thing to happen. Is that something is no on these known to everybody. Yes, you're going to see that certain things are taking the wrong. The Bronx by people should be putting gel with their pie recipes, many, magazines, I hope they're listening. They put in the cover of their medicines. By is that it looks horror movie on Halloween day going through carnival. And they put it and I'm like really, but I always take the bus site. The name is known the dishes known people understand where it came from. They have more or less than understanding of ingredients. So I do believe at the end always ends being more positive negative, let's pivot here for a minute to talk about the industry that you're in the restaurant industry. A lot has happened in this space in the past couple of years, particularly when we're talking about me too in this era of metoo. There have been colleagues in the industry who've been named as people who are participated in this. Unfortunately, the restaurant business has a reputation for being a lot of things difficult high-pressure all these things does it also have this reputation for just allowing bad behavior to occur. The restaurant industries are very big industry. I would say that will be to me unfair to us. Narrow it only to the restaurant industry because this is a is a social problem. So we should all be here to make sure that every individual is treated with respect. And if you see something you should say, something the great thing has happened. The last couple of years said those women that came forward to speak out or making sure that older woman they feel their support and that the days because they're gonna be finger pointed or shutdown. I think those as hopefully are behind pro lean more has to be on socially starting by home. Parents very important. I starting by school teachers, very important, and then our common behaviour to each other. So I hope.

"Career started going south how did that affect your relationship with jim morton yes so you know he he was really reliant on her famous excess and that was sort of that was sort of the linchpin for his his control over her and his ability to manipulate her because like andres was saying you know he he well well like christie said he held her career in the palm of his hand or at least she felt like he did and so you know shoes she's boxing and she's winning them both money and they both know all along that she's gay and that she's you know if if she revealed who she really was and if they broke up and she kind of lived the life she wanted to live christie was under the impression and i think she had some some real legitimacy and feeling this way that that would that would deal a blow to her career being being gay or being leslie at that time was not super popular and not super well received in athletics or in general in the public eye and so he sort of had this kind of like web of control wrapped around her where she couldn't really live her life the way she wanted to she couldn't be who she wanted to be and because she was winning and needed the money and he was like managing her life in and making sure that you know the money kept flowing in.
