Umpire Vanover released from hospital after 'scary' beaning
"Major League Baseball umpire Larry vanover was released from the hospital Friday two days after being hit in the head with a relay throw by a guardians player during a game against the New York Yankees in Cleveland. Van over was discharged from the Cleveland clinic after being under care for two nights and will remain off the field until he's cleared by MLB's medical personnel. The 67 year old was struck on the left side of his head in the 5th inning Wednesday by a throw from guardians all star second baseman Andres Jimenez, who was firing toward home plate on the play. "Major league umpire Larry van over is being evaluated for a concussion and other injuries at a hospital after being struck in the head with a relay throw during Wednesday's game between the New York Yankees and the host Cleveland guardians. The 67 year old van over was knocked down by the throw from guardians all star second baseman Andres Jimenez, who wielded and fired toward the plate and hit van over positioned on the infield grass between second of the mound on the left side of the head. Major League Baseball said vanover was being checked for a head injury and quote other potential medical issues.

I think Cleveland was the first team to start doing that, right? In the early and mid 90s players that they had there? Yes, John Hart was the one behind that, saying, we got to lock these guys up long-term and not let them get away. But here they are, the guardians, again, Andres Jimenez is a really, really good player buster. I did a radio show yesterday and one of the guys said he's the best second baseman in baseball. I haven't even thought is that true, but all I know is when he was with the mets, one of their coaches told me, wait till you see this guy play defense. He is sensational. He is a magician, but there was no talk of whether he was going to hit or not. And I just, I thought it was implied. He's a great defender. Well, he can really hit and he had a great year last year and now he's got over a $100 million and I think it's money well spent because that kid can really go. So the braves and we mentioned them before in the podcast, you know, they're dealing with all these injuries. Kyle writes went, he's going to start the year on the IL. He has had some shoulder weakness during the course of this spring. He had a cortisone shot back in January, the braves, the team that won a 101 games last year. They won the national yeast. They're going to start the year with Jared Schuster, former number one pick and Dylan died in their rotation. 5 starting pitchers for a team with a lot of success in recent years and yet, you're going to have two rookies start in the rotation. What do you make of that? Right. And as you know, buster, they were probably 8 and 9 on the depth chart for the braves coming into spring training. Ian Anderson was supposed to grab one of those jobs and a few others. And it didn't happen. Now, those kids have good arms. We all know that the brave really do well developing young pitchers. And they do have freed and stridor and Morton in that rotation. So I think they'll be fine, but I'm with you. I think it's a bit of a red flag. They're going to start a season with two rookie starters. And they're going to start, you know, without their shortstop. I'm a little bit confused still. How they never really made a really big effort to keep Dan's Swanson and you lose Freddie Freeman dance be Swanson back to back years. That's hard to do. As I said, I still think they can win the division. I'm certain they're going to the playoffs, but there are a couple holes there that they haven't had in a while. Where the first video you saw of it was JT as you see catchers do often, sticking his glove out, anticipating a ball from the home plate umpire, Randy Rosenberg, and just as Rosenberg goes to slam the ball into his glove, JT moved his glove, the ball hits the ground and Rosenberg ejects him. And Tim, I thought for sure there had to have been greater context of this. Maybe JT said something that made the umpire mad, what happened was the pitch before that, or the moment before that crate kipper was called for pitch clock violation, veteran reliever, his body language clearly he was annoyed with what happened. He got a baseball and then he threw that baseball out, he asked for another baseball. And that's when Rosenberg turned to give a ball to JT, JT moves his glove. He gets kicked out of the game, and as he's walking off the field Tim with his bemused smile on his face and you know his personality, he's very understated. He looks at the crew chief of that up hiring group and said, my first ejection of my career, I don't know how you land anywhere else other than empire just blew it Tim, yeah, look, as you know, buster, I'm a big umpire guy. "It sounds to me and I'm not saying It is. Or it's going to end up like that. But it sounds to me a lot like other off seasons with this team. Yeah. They made a big trade for Francis Golden door. They have not signed and that is a fact. They made a big move. Big acquisition. Another fact they have not signed a top player that's available for just money alone. So the argument against what I'm saying with Springer would be cell. We don't want Springer or they didn't want Springer. Then I say Fine. I happen to respectfully disagree. However, there is another big time player available that can take you to the next level, just a different area of the ball club that Trevor Bauer And there's no excuse for it. Get it done. What's the excuse? This is not about the luxury tax threshold. I'm not trying to force the Mets to go out there and spend recklessly. They need to improve the ball club. They need better players. That is a fact. I'm tired of your people's. Although their offense is good. Oh, it is. The team is stunk for the last several years. No, but the offense is good. All of a sudden you're it's automatic. McNeil and Alonzo. We're gonna be all stars like they were a couple years ago. That's automatic. Now. That lineup is a given. Not to mention that they missed and I hate Robinson Cano, but not to mention that they're gonna miss his production from a year ago. I mean, the facts are he did produce drawing the 60 Games shortened pandemic season. They did get production from shortstop. What? Andres Jimenez Was in the land or trade now on his way to Cleveland. Brazoria was a promising offensive player. He potentially impactful offensive player. Not that they're on the level of Lin Door, but they did produce You hope McCann will be a little better than Ramos. But he's gonna be a defensive guy first, which is fine. They still need more offense. And if you don't want the offense, and they didn't what, Springer then do it with the pitching and build a rotation with Graham and Trevor Bauer that cannot be topped. Now I don't want to understand how everything that I just told you over the last 10 minutes or so how any method could possibly disagree. We could have disagreements on how you would prefer they construct their team. But the point is, we should be getting toward the same goal building a team that can legitimately contend. For a World series. I mean, I actually had one person and this just shows your Twitter and I've had a lot of people on Twitter and women this week. Which is why I need to start the show with this. Actually had one person on Twitter. Tell me, Sally, you look at the position The Yankees were in right now. All those contracts you have strong the way that they are. You know that? That could be an issue if the Mets were to go out there and sign Springer Yeah, look at the Yankees. And their team that legitimately contend for the World Series every year. A team that is in the postseason every single freaking year. Look at them. Why would I ever want to be tied down like that? Why would I ever want to be hamstrung like the Yankees? If only The point is trying to build the best team every year. To go out there in content legitimately to win the World Series. Blue Jays. They're trying Padres air trying. I mean, not enough teams around Major League baseball, unfortunately, and even more so now because of the pandemic, But even prior to that, not every team in Major League baseball Tries to win every year. That said that's pathetic. Because every team in every sport every single year should be given it everything that they have. And the Mets under new ownership have a lot to give. I love the acquisition of land door. I love the direction of the franchise. And I loved it even more a week and a half ago, then unfortunately had the issue with their GM Jared Porter, who harassed a female reporter. Four years ago. And now the Mets have to live with that black eye. And that embarrassment and then they lose George Springer the next day or the next day or two. When you look around the table at the decision makers what we are seeing is that the decision makers are not coming from those communities andres jimenez is executive director of green two point oh and initiative to increase diversity within the environmental movement every year it releases a report card assessing diversity within leading environmental organizations and foundations. But the best thing to do well, if somebody comes to your approaches you online and said, Look, I can help you apply for unemployment benefits. Pay me $100, and I'll make sure that you're the check is in the mail to you. Well, you should never have to pay for Unemployment benefits and you shouldn't really need anybody else to help apply for them. It's a fairly simple process. If you receive money that you should not have gotten either benefits directly deposited into your account or receive a payment card or something that allows you to spend money. That probably isn't yours. You need to report that as well. Because That was the result of fraud as well. A lot of this is just accidental stuff. I'll tell you and I have a story about that. Um, in April, my dad got his $1200 cares. Act fund right? It was directed positive into his account. Very nice, and he could have used that money if he hadn't died two years ago, And in fact, the letter went to WJR Ryan, deceased. And it says my fellow American, You're $12 just about it, So some of this is just it's a rush. I think to get the money paid out to Americans. Some of it is lax security at the state level, and that's what some of the scammers have been able to capitalize on. And then some of it is just playing fraud. It's making application for funds that you didn't deserve and Been receiving those ones here.
