"It's brought to you by credit karma, and it comes really in a bushel. Because Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning despite the lightning being outplayed at home last night was the difference. He stopped 42 of 43. That's 42 saves of the week to give Tapa now a two Nothing lead heading back to Montreal for Game three. Tomorrow night. So up to nothing thanks to Andrei Vasilevskiy he makes are saves of the week Brought to you by credit card. My go to creditkarma dot com slash win money. Um Even though sports has become Or remains, I guess, uh Quite unpredictable. The NHL has often been unpredictable. Hot goalie, etcetera and certainly carry price of Montreal has been great this whole post season, but When you've climbed the mountain the way Montreal has from You know, from the bottom, and now we're here and they are here. Um You often run out of gas, and I don't know that they can play with Tampa. Even at home. Clearly, tomorrow night is a must win. They're not going to be temple forced four straight, so if they don't win tomorrow, it is a matter of time. I don't think much can take away from the Canadians Year. Especially post season year and look we are, you know, it's very interesting. We are Trying so hard in the argument in New York. Where I am aware of. You know how things are viewed. About The Yankees, for example, is a good example of How the sport's fan today is really Evaluating teams. Based on what they do in the playoffs. You know if you don't make the playoffs, you're not worth my time. And if you do make it, you better play. Well, that's sort of the attitude now because so many teams make playoffs and all the sports, so For all the things and this really relates to Brian Cashman and the fact that the Yankees have not been to the World Series since 2000 and nine And before that, weren't there. Uh, In Oh 4567 and eight. So since The 2003 lost to the Marlins in the World Series. They have been to one World Series. And yet they've won all the time and Yankee fans that complain on Twitter, etcetera are quickly shouted down. Oh, poor Yankee fans. You only win 100 games every regular season. Oh, you're always in the playoffs, so poor Yankee fans. And I get it because from a distance, what are you complaining about? You're always in the mix. You're always there. But that is my point. Really, And that is that we have Changed what we appreciate. And always when a successful team is successful for a while. Your bar is going to be raised. You are going to ask for more from that team. You expect more? Their payroll is more their pedigree is more. Their history is more you expecting to live up to their pedigree, their history, their uniform, their payroll. Their personnel, their general manager and manager, and when they don't Leaning now on the regular season and what you did in the regular season. Doesn't cut it. Whether you're Paul George or Chris Paul or the Milwaukee Bucks or the New York Yankees. You need to be postseason successful. And you can talk about regular season MVPs and Most valuable everything, you know, most outstanding player. Top player at whatever position It's it rings pretty hollow. To sports fans today because Because that post season goes on for two months. And if you're not in it Your absence is noted by your local fan. Regardless of what sport you're in. That post season is a long one. And if your team isn't in that post season, it has not been a good year. I've noticed Recently, more than ever. Like Even recently, I saw a story. And this was before the bad game. He just had But You know, they write what they think we want to read, so I'm not going to blame. The writer. But this happens a lot. The story was Does Garrett Coal Deserve to start the All Star game. And when I saw the headline I thought to myself My God. Is there anything more irrelevant? Than whether Garrett Coal Deserves to start the All Star game. But you notice when things aren't going well. You try and find bright spots and often in team sports. It's about your guy. Winning some award. It means generally that your team stinks. Or or at a minimum, that your team is a disappointment when you start talking about does this guy deserve to win this? Does this guy deserve to win that He should win this. He should. He's definitely the rookie of the year. Who does he have to face to win to be M v p. When that stuff is being talked about by your fan base, it generally means you're not proud of your team. It generally means that the teams of disappointment But this guy might win Rookie of the year, but this guy might win the Cy Young. This guy might lead the league in home runs that this guy might Lead the league in points scored. You know, that's what it's about. When your team is doing well, you notice that the individual talk Most of the time. Fades. Most of the time. You know, not in LeBron James case sometimes and not. There are exceptions. But for.

"In the corner on surrogate champ. I believe it was and Cirelli didn't like it. So as Dana was going to skate out of the zone, Cirelli went right after him. Cross checked them tried to engage with them, which he did that brought in the rest of the players, including Corey Perry, including Hedman, and now they finally get everyone separated. It was a hit by Daniel. They got everything going looked like a clean hit to me, but Tampa Bay thought Maybe it was a little dirty in the last Seconds. And Corey Perry's And had been Still that fairly close quarters and now the officials Get them separated. You mentioned the dying seconds. That's going to be a big storyline in this one. It is Over Game two goes to the Tampa Bay Lightning by a final count of 31. They let the last couple seconds just whittle away off the clock instead of calling an icing call as they tried to clean things up back in the Tampa Bay zone. And the official count for Andre Vessel Levski is 42 saves. Well, little did we know in the first period when Andrei Vasilevskiy face some good Montreal scoring chances that what we were seeing then was what we were going to see all night. We go back to the first period. What was then a scoreless game and one of many great eight chances for the Canadians. This one went to Nick Suzuki Joseph Stanley Cup final debut here as he draws in the absence of Alex Killorn. Suzuki gets behind the defense takes a stretch past ties to go backhand. It's kicked away by Vasilevskiy. Tampa Bay got caught on a line change that left to line up the middle and Suzuki was able to take the long pass. And we would say it time and time again the rest of the night, Joe Well again that first.

"But when you're having preliminary conversations and that that that doesn't surprise me at all that I mean, they're not going to let anybody talk to Eichel, or just just because they've had preliminary discussions about a trade. We wanted the also talk to you a little bit about Stanley Cup final. I wanted to make sure we left enough time for your picks portion of the segment because I know you're very big on predictions and making picks for the Stanley Cup final. In all seriousness, though we were talking relating it to the Sabres. Paul, you know Montreal has gone on this run. They weren't that good and they were middle of the pack regular season they get into the playoffs. They go on a run. What have you hot goalie, Blah, blah, blah, And now they're in the final in. Do you think there would be like? Would the Sabres be looking at if there is a quote Montreal model of Get the get the wall in net and spend whatever it takes to get them either trade for a big contract that may be another team wants to get rid of a goalie or some guys on the free agent market. Philipp Grubauer, you know, go give big money to somebody on the free agent market. Is it possible that the Sabres would do that, after seeing Montreal make it to the final? Well, the big contract for Carey Price is finally paying off. You know where you know he he gets, you know, close to $10 million. Um, you know, that hasn't really paid off much at all for the Montreal Canadians, and what's what's amazing what they're doing is they were the 18th ranked team in the NHL in the worst division. Yeah, So, So it's like you say, Well, They have no business being here. But Carey Price all of a sudden became Cary Price again, you know, and you know has become a big time goalie. But look at Tampa Bay what they've been able to do. You know when you talk about Tampa Bay? Yeah, of course you're talking about, you know, Stamp coasts and Kuchar off and point and all the great players had been All the great players and how they've built their roster with phenomenal talent. They they've, you know, got guys like Coleman that they can put into that gives you the grit standpoint. You know, they go out and get good role last year and does same thing this year. They get Savard and put them on their defense. And you can talk about all that. But They also have what many who many think is the best goaltender in the NHL and Andrei Vasilevskiy. You know, he's part of that. Winning to his numbers actually are just a shade better than carry. Prices are in the playoffs. Ones. 199 the other 2.2, and there And Vasilevskiy save percentages, 9, 36 and prices 9 34. So I mean, they're very, very close in the playoffs, and But Vasilevskiy actually has better numbers Where Carey Price I was thinking, even if the Montreal Canadians lose for that would have a good shot at the Con Smyth trophy. Losing players have won textiles wanted Roger Crozier has won it. You know when their teams didn't win the Stanley Cup. So you know, I could see that happening for Carey Price, too, but Um, as far as spending huge amounts of money on goaltending. Uh, you know, goaltending got the golden Knights to to a certain point, you know, it got them past Colorado. They didn't get them past Montreal. But I goal tending to me wasn't the problem in that series for the for the Vegas? Yeah. Marc Andre Fleury did give away one game that they looked like they had one. You know, behind them that handling the park and all of a sudden game a minute 50 seconds. All I gotta do is run that down and they win the game. They wind up losing, but overall, still, let's let's be honest. Fleury was great in the playoffs and and Leonard except for the one game was great in the playoffs, so I don't think it was goaltending that hurt them. So Yes, you need to find I think a good goaltender, but I'm not going to sit there. I I don't want to sit there and pay us. You know, Goaltender $7 million To come in here and you know again as grubauer the answer. His numbers weren't that great for Colorado in the playoffs, he played 10 games had to save percentage of 9 14. That's Yeah, you know for me, 9 20 is that if you're under 9 20, I'm not extremely impressed. So you know their goaltending. I think needs to improve. Definitely. Um, if they're going to be a playoff team, you have to have a goaltender. You can count on to make the big save at the big time. Vasilevskiy is that guy prices? That guy For the most part, Fleury was that guy? Even Florida. I mean, once, uh, You know, they switched over and put Spencer night Spencer night, a rookie went in net and really looked good. But Brosque as as usual. Is the worst goaltender in the playoffs, numbers wise and the eye test wise and he is just not a good playoff goaltender. But you know, all of a sudden the kid goes in there and plays a couple of games and And looked really, really good for them. So you know, I I don't think you necessarily have to go out and spend big money. But you got you have to be extremely solid and that if you're going to do and make any noise in the playoffs, so no I wouldn't go out and spend big money on a goaltender, but definitely I'd be trying to find ways to improve my goal tending in a fairly big way. Well, Mr Hamilton. I'll tell you what. We'll let you get on your merry way this morning. We've already run late on the segment anyway. And you're welcome for not mentioned. Well, then I got another question. I refuse to believe that I got another question. Hey, how are your Yankees doing? You want to Okay there, There's I was told you that. That probably is the worst put together team I've ever seen in baseball. It's they're awful. They I just awful. They can't they can't execute on the base paths. They're awful defensively. They they hit double plays like they practice hitting the double place. It's like that's what they worked at spring training. Let's work. Let's work on hitting into double plays because they are good at it. I don't know if there's any team in baseball, better hitting in double plays. In big situations in the New York Yankees. You know, I think there's a certain part of Yankee fans that I think you guys tend to overreact if they're not 20 games over 500, however. You might be right with this team this season with some of the flaws they have. So you It's not your usual Yankee fan hand wringing. And why? And I say it every time when I thought why they ever got Stanton and just that makes you want your head want to explode? Well, I still love you, Paul. And And that should make your day. Thank you, Mr Hamilton. Alright. Have a good day..
Martin, Pulock help Isles top Lightning 3-2 to tie series

"Stability and a lot of confidence and goal. There's no question about that. And whether it's you know Varlamov or the rookie Ilya Sorokin. But Varlamov is the guy kind of leading the charge. And You know, While you got your role in all three defensive units when you're able to contribute defensively with your guys up front or forward course. I mean, it makes life a heck of a lot easier because you know you can do a little bit extra when one of those guys are going to help me in position to bail you out in certain circumstances in the New York Islanders have One of the best third line. It's not the best third line center in the NHL two way guy and John Gabriel Pageau and they've got one of the best checking fourth lines in the NHL that they're not afraid to put out there in key minutes. Especially as a game to win those down so it to do it by committee system with the New York Islanders From a defensive perspective, it's been the trademark of Barry Trotz and the Islanders. How they've been performing. Uh and they're carrying it out and worked last year got him to the same point. They're hoping to go a little bit further this season. David Pignata from the fourth period dot com and host on Sirius XM NHL Network. Our guest On CBS Sports Radio. Um, I mentioned this in the fresh round of the playoffs and you'd go all the way back to last year. I always thought Matthew Barzel was a good solid. Kind of a pest hockey player who got underneath the other team Skin. But with the playoff run that he had last year, I said, Damn, he's and he's not just a good plays a very good player and I was wondering if the island is going to make him available during the off season. I said, that's the perfect Kind of fit guy. You bring him in. He's the kind of guy who gets the other team upset. Yeah, they weren't making them available. They they know they've got a star player in their hands and I talked him up all year long. He had a good season and I don't have to catch a good season. And then he did Zippity doodah in the first round of the playoffs. They took pen the Penguins out despite getting nothing from bars. L But man is he gone off the last five games. I think it's five consecutive games that I watched. I said the end of game. Oh, he's the best player in the ice five in a row and, oh, by the way, But Boston's got a whole bunch of very good players like Mr Potts, or knock and the like, and Tampa has got a ton of good players. He's the best player on the ice. How do you How do you attempt to match up against him? If you're Tampa going forward the rest of the series? Yeah, You've got to pay a lot of attention to this kid. There's no question about that. I mean, you know, First of all, he's the center, so he's going to help ride the line and create the offensive opportunities. You know for for his group and whether it's playing with Brock Nelson or whether it's you know, having Leo Komarov on the other wing, a physical type of player that that goes into the dirty areas. I mean, this is Matt bars. L is a dynamic type of player now one of the reasons His offensive numbers aren't as off the charts, as some people may anticipate is because of the system that they play on Long Island. It's making sure that you were playing responsibility defensively as well. If it was a scenario where they just Let him run with his offensive abilities and just not worry about the defensive stuff. This guy would probably be a 90 plus point scorer in the NHL. And while he's cracked 80 before, I mean, this is a guy That has to be responsible, his own zone and he's owned it, But you know, because of how deep they are the team he didn't need to be the the superstar in that first round because they have the other weapons. Yes, Like you said. He's definitely been been stepping up. He scored the opener in the game today on a beautiful goal on Andrei Vasilevskiy going five hole. I mean, he creates offensive chances and offensive opportunities. Tampa's got a very strong sound two way system as well. But they need to put more. Uh, I guess physical awareness against map ourselves to kind of cling him up a little bit so that he doesn't have the opportunity to score and I like you said earlier these two teams while yes, they met last season in the conference final. They haven't played each other all season, so there's still that feeling out process that has to take place. At least they got one game out of their belt. I would imagine that the next game might be a little bit more open as teams try to see if they can get a take advantage of the other club. And then things will start to tighten up a little bit more. But Matt bars l I mean, he's a key weapon. And if you let him roll, Yeah, as we saw today, he'll burn you. Scary. Good. Alright If you're Tampa, you get to go in the 60th minute to the game with the goaltender out. You got the man advantage, poking home couldn't get the equalizer. Does that goal count for anything? Does it give them a psychological lift? Because they got out playing. They were down to. Nothing could have been shut out. But they did get that late go, and they even had some opportunities there in the final seconds to maybe get it Even What does losing 21 do? Compared to losing two? Nothing for Tampa? Anything at all or nothing? Yeah, No, no. It It certainly plays a factor here because then Alex Killorn one of their their top two way, guys, Um, one of the primary scorers. I mean, he said this after the game today that it's a mental game. It's you know, as much as it is physical. It's mental as well, knowing that you were able to put one path. Varlamov allows you go into the next game with a little bit more confidence knowing that Okay, look again. We're feeling each other out. We got to see what we got to do. But we know if we crashed the net a little bit more create a little bit more havoc. Then maybe we can. We can start penetrating than that a little bit a little bit more. So you know for a team that just there's still the defending champs, and they're defending champs until they're not. So this is a team with a ton of experience. And they know what it takes in pressure cooker situation to seven game series. You know, this isn't done in two or three games..

Another Shutout As The Dallas Stars Fall To Vasilevskiy And The Lightning 2-0
"The Tampa Bay Lightning won their fifth straight game yesterday after shutting out the Dallas Stars two to nothing in Dallas. The Lightning have now shut out the Dallas Stars and back to back games and it was the third straight shutout for goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy
Andrei Vasilevskiy delivers consecutive shutouts, Lightning top Stars 2-0
"Vasilevskiy was once again dominant. He stopped all 20 shots He faced supposed to shut out in his second straight start and earn his second shutout overall this season that earned him the first star of the week in the NHL. Is now posted shut outs and back to back starts five times in his career, and he's gone seven consecutive periods without allowing a goal. When you talk about the advantage the Lightning has in net every game. It's pretty wide, especially in this division. Vasilevskiy is head and shoulders better than everyone else. Ben Bishop might have a say in that, but he's injured right now for the stars Brian and Blam from Sun Sports and My partner for The Last Call, which is presented by Jack Daniels told Dave Michigan and me on power lunch yesterday. That vast Celeski has grown so much as a netminder. He's a machine. He really s vasilevskiy. That really interesting character. And, of course, is a hockey player. He's very quiet with us. Naturally it apparently he's a real riot with the players, you know, on practice, days and days in between got a great sense of humor. But he is all business. When he shows up first thing in the morning, you talk to other players and go. You just leave Vasi to himself. He's he's already in that zone. He's got the body for it. It's 63 and well over £200. He's got the long legs and long arms. You know, we're talking about circuits have an experience exactly the same thing of front, John Goaltending coach talked about it recently saying that you know, vastly going all the way and winning the cup. It solidifies everything that they've talked about all the way along How your off season training regiment right through to the very last save in Game six against Dallas to win the Stanley Cup. Your gold center. Oftentimes is your best penalty killer and the Lightning had to kill off six power place from the stars, and that was big, according to egg blam, and he loved what he saw. Thought Alex Killorn had some sequences. I would point him out, especially. I thought he was incredible. He had four if not five. Individual plays where he just dismantled their attack. Turned the pack over and either shot out of the zone himself or made availability for somebody else that he was playing with the get the park and get it down. But they all were in great sequence when the pressure when not to That was a big part of the game and then getting on the scoreboard first two now, But Andre, polite, just has an affinity for that, And then he starts on time all the time. And that's always a big deal. Doesn't matter who you're playing. Whether it's Dallas and the team you played in the Stanley Cup finals or the last place team, Callie always seems to start on time and a that gives you a big advantage.

"He had a goal and two assists and he was flying all over the ice. It had been a while since he was on the ice for a competitive game. But he said it was a great first start. Like I said, any time Europe you're on the ice. You wanna help your team win, So it's the best I've felt in a long time. You know, it's tough, sometimes in camp in those scrimmages, that intensity is just just not there. And when you get into real action, like I said, the instincts take over and you want to be out there making place. So it was nice to get out there playing with pointer, and Palley makes life a little easier for sure, but I felt good. I feel like I'm just gonna You know, build off of that and continue to get stronger as the season progresses. I haven't played a lot of hockey for for a long time, so it was a good start. Stamkos now as points in his last 17 games he's played going back to last season and including his one game in the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. So when you talk about Steven Stamkos and what he's able to accomplish. It was great to see him have that shoot first mentality. Ah, couple of nights ago, as I said before the landing control play for most of the evening, but there were a few moments in the first period were Chicago push play. They had some dangerous looks but couldn't beat. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 of 23 shots in the wind. He's led the end a job or shared the lead for wins each of the last three seasons. Look for him. You get to start in that again tonight. Now, one thing that was really need. Wednesday was the ceremony before the game. It honored the Lightning's.

"I think he's up for the challenge. Well, he's gonna have to be. And I think so. Will Andrei Vasilevskiy for sure. I think both goaltenders once and outstanding performance tonight, obviously of acid to close this thing out, but you don't and force a game seven. Anything could happen and I'll leave you with this on. What's the key for the stars tonight to extend this win to a game seven. What are you gonna be looking for? That gives you an indication? Alright? Yeah, this star's teams ready to go tonight. We'll has to do with a couple of factors. But one of the keys is how they deal with managing the park because when they win Either clean exits or through having good play through the neutral zone and get in and fortune. These two teams are surprisingly similar. Now there's different aspects to both. But both teams are on their game when they are hunting the puck in the offensive zone and working the fore check wearing the opposition defense down, causing turnovers and then creating scoring chances off that now. Sometimes I think that the Lightning do a little bit more on the rush than the stars do, especially with guys like Ropa hints out who had that sort of blinding speed. But if Dallas is able to get the puck on the other side of the red line Actually. Forced Tampa to go backwards. Go get it and then try to get out of the four check. I think that will speak really well for douse you saw, especially in the first overtime starts out a lot of trouble breaking out of their own end. And they were very passive. And that really was a problem. Now. Dallas is pretty good about bending but not breaking, so it didn't completely hurt them. But you'll see really quickly if they're able to not get hemmed in too much early. Will be fine because the stars can play that slugfest style game that we saw in Game five. With lower energy. That's fight. It's it's a bit more of the run and gun trading chances. I think they prefer to avoid. You know, it's funny, Greg because I just like you have a natural tendency to want to take over as the host and ask questions so Always ready to start grilling you on stuff. But Vasilevskiy, as you probably will know is about seven minutes away from setting a new playoff record for most minutes played in one playoff here, and I know he's in his private. It probably is an effective you have to wonder he's played a lot of hockey. Is that an issue piling up? Yeah, I don't think so. I think for him to your point, he's a highly conditioned guy. All these guys are, but he loves the workload. I think he thrives in it. If he was maybe 35 36. I think you could probably talk about it being an issue. I think I think he's ready to go. I think he's been really good in this serious. Maybe not great, but I think he's been good enough and I would expect him to have a really good game tonight. And if he's not, I'd be surprised. Andi think if that's the case, the Stars would win. But, you know, I think he's going to have AH. Pretty standout game tonight and we'll we'll see how that plays out. But who knows? That's why they play the game on they play the game. And we'll see what happens. Well, look, man. Thanks for coming on. I appreciate it. And best of luck to you guys have fun tonight. And maybe we'll do it again down the road. If not, I'm sure we'll talk in the off season for sure. Maybe they'll be a game seven. There could be thanks for having me Greg Appreciate it that zone Newkirk, he is the Stars radio hosts, and we appreciate him making some time. They want to let you know you could never miss a player.

"They're for the power play, and it could have been the hero and Game six. And then suddenly we're talking about maybe a dangerous power play going into Game one of the Stanley Cup final here, but it's just that game of ventures off. Just the you know from a near Miss Teo, you know, potentially being the hero s O. I will be something. Toto. Watch here as we get into game won something else that we're going to be looking at. Is the goaltending battle on? I think that's going to be a big key to this. Siri's Andrei Vasilevskiy versus Anton Khudobin. I think the lightning have a big advantage here, eyes. Certainly Cadogan is a guy that can steal a game for you. He's played extremely well. Certainly in that Vegas serious he was You know the stand out for the stars in that Siri's really helped him get through that one in five When I thought everybody felt like Vegas was the better team would probably come out of that. There's you know, big surprise around the league that the stars were able to handle Vegas that the way that they did, and you know it was a big part of that. But For me personally, I think even as good as he's been this postseason, Andrei Vasilevskiy is still the best goaltender in the world and the Lightning have him and his this at their disposal, and he's been getting better and better as this postseason has gone along. I'm interested. Do you feel like the same way as far as how that gold tinny battle breaks down, and it's You know, it's Vasyl a ski and kudo is a little bit behind. But Vasilevskiy is kind of could be the difference in this series. Yeah, I think no question. Like you said. He's the best in the world. I'll take Vasilevskiy any day over. Probably any opponent. He's played tremendous up to this point. I know he's played a lot of hockey, and that may have come into question. But To get to this point and the experience that he has under his belt, I think also gives him the the edge there and you know it's it's hard to get to a Stanley Cup final. This team's done it A TTE this group at least in 2015. It took a long time to get back here and I think with the early exit, you know, this is a team that came into this playoffs with a much different mentality, including him. I think we've seen some maturity with another year under his belt, Justus we have with several other players and even the top line for the Lightning, so I would take Vasilevskiy. He's bigger. He's proven He's he's got the vest under his belt. But it's the playoffs in like, you know, Burns E. It's anybody's game. Ifyou're goaltenders, you know hot, and I think that's where cute open he'd have to steal a couple games here for the Stars and You know, it's just going to be interesting. I think the only thing that scares me a little bit about Dallas. I would say going into this. I think you know the Lightning are the better team, but you know, they remind me a little bit of the ST Louis Blues last season in the coaching aspect. Craig Burg comes in, takes over the group, and he has their respect and commands the group there and leads him all the way to a Stanley Cup championship. I think bonus has similarly done that with this group for Dallas. Clearly, they trust him, and they believe in him and Nobody would've pegged ST Louis or the Stars to be in the Stanley Cup final at the beginning of the season, so I think for them, you know, I wouldn't say they're underrated because they're very great team and it obviously takes to team the two teams in the finals deserve to be there. But they may have a little bit of an attitude coming into this, knowing just how good the lightning are, how good Andrei Vasilevskiy is and what it's going to take to win and I think you'd opens. Goingto have to steal games for them if they're going to Yeah, I mean, there were you remember, there were questions about Vasilevskiy after last season's.

But for Tampa sports fans, it wasn't Brady that delivered Sunday it was braided The honor's line old centers at point a shot Boyd huge goal 31 waiting, but 16 27 left. A Michigan, a lightning radio network. Yes, Brayden was on point. Their leading scorer inside the bubble delivered a knockout blow to the Islanders. As the lightning took a 31 lead later they would in an empty netter and make it for one And in Tampa, If you forgot about Dre, the lightning refreshed your memory is Andre Palat. Had an enormous tie breaking goal earlier in the game, and Andrei Vasilevskiy and net made 26 sage to again be a stone wall for the light. Right better than aboard didn't squeal. We're on the verge of a copy of a more serious but we're not done here. Okay? The early one that tree fell in the forest. That was a good one. I appreciated you sound bite of the day, though. After the game, the Islanders fairy tale season seems to be unraveling. Baker Mayfield was talking. Wake up calls his non related brother Scott Mayfield of the Islanders. Was you doing the same? "One walking in lightning and right corner center cost black. He gets it from Arnie shoots and scores. Bad Martin. The Lightning would be in a tough position later in the first period when trailing one to nothing. Alex Killorn was called for a major penalty, but the Lightning was able to kill off the five minute major and lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy was at the heart of it sort of ourselves Poles and shoot, say, NASA lost along with least reading rebound. That was a great save Everly on the rebound centers it ski As the first period progressed would be Victor Hedman coming through with the equalizer one by Barkley. Good Road Headmen takes it Lapointe shoot school that deflected off the bar Cross bar down in the net. Following the icing lighting, win the draw and headmen blast that one. So wonder one would be the scar as lightning and Islanders headed to the second period and into the third period. Adversity struck again for Tampa Bay when the Islanders find themselves with a five on three man advantage. But Andrei Vasilevskiy once again stood tall. Let's look Bailey Pavilion, She wanna save rebound tapes right circle. Let's tickle Josh Bailey Bailey, Shoot. Block it away by Vasyl Escape out of play, So as this game came down the stretch tied 1 to 1. It appeared this game might be headed to overtime until you drop. "Is lightning radio. What a game! What a game. Lightning defeat the Bruins 3 to 2 in two overtimes. Take the second round Siri's four games to one Tampa Bay. According to Brian Burns has won six straight overtime games in the playoffs, going back to 2016 and therefore no in the 2020 playoffs. That is pretty incredible. They're moving on to the Eastern Conference final for the fourth time. In six seasons, Victor Hedman with the game winning goal. And he is speaking to the media. It should be Ryan McDonagh and Andrei Vasilevskiy speaking to the media right now, let's go to that on letting radio He impressed. You have played your ninth overtime period in this building. It was obviously a great feeling, not OT winner and guys really earned it all serious, play great and It's a tough a point over there, so they have a lot of credit, too. Next question. Media Center. Hi, Andre. It's Chris Johnson from sports that I'm just wondering. What does it mean to you did it to get another chance to go back to a conference final with this team? Yeah. Great feeling to win. Surrounds after special after a loss here. We kind of screwed up. Yeah. Great. Seriously. Well, they were pretty consistent were broken system and, uh oh, for games were tight. Actually, no stick for Vasi coming right down the middle Square to the shooter made to save no rebound. Good stuff there from vastly but give credit to who? Lakas well. When you take a look at that first overtime, Boston with 11 shots on goal, Tampa Bay was seven and for the most part In that overtime. Boston carried play, but then letting started to find their legs David Phil talked about towards the end and started generate some offense. Bogosian had a couple of opportunities from the point. And lightning started a pressure lock a little bit at least more so than what they did early on during that period, But you know, all in all I think if your lightning feel pretty good again playing shorthanded Nokko trough since the third and Ryan McDonagh back in the lineup for the Tampa Bay Lightning going 11 and seven tonight, we'll come back and take a look at some statistics. "Plus, you're facing arrested team relatively speaking Oilers did not played since Tuesday and they've been sitting back to back losses that came after a really strong stretch for them essentially since Ken Hitchcock took over. So I think all of that means that it's not going to be easy circumstantially. But we've seen for this team that the circumstances don't really seem to bother them. I mean, they have those tough. I home games back after long road trips. They win. Yeah. They face motivated opponents they win. They figure to be tired second of back to back. They fall behind they win. So I think they've already shown that there have been some tough circumstantial type of games this year that they've been able to navigate their way through. But I do think this is another one of those and they didn't do very well in this building last year at a similar situation. It was the last game of a road trip and mcdavid thoughts and had four. Goals and five points. Obviously they want to avoid a similar situation tonight. Makes a lot of sense. Dave, no doubt. And you've got to think Tampa Bay will be up for a game like this. I know the talk of Edmonson was Ken Hitchcock had a couple of days the practice, and they felt like really they could install some of the things that he wanted to implement that. He hasn't really had a chance since taking over as head coach. I also think tonight's match up between the pipes is going to be really interesting because Mikko Koskinen has been really good this year Davis. You talked to FRANZ John. But he's been really good at home as well. And we know about Andrei vasilevskiy, Jack Michael's confirming. I think many of us believe that vast is the best netminder in the game. So this has the makings of I think being an interesting. Goaltender matchup. Kaley. Yeah. I mean Coskun, and and no at home, he's been really impressive. And I think from who we've talked to as far as the oiler side this morning. It sounds like he's someone who they expected to be a solid backup. And is now kind of turned the tables and been exceptional for this Oilers team. So I think they've been having tremendous goaltending. They're gonna look to make a strong statement at home, obviously as you mentioned with the holiday break, but it'll be a good goaltending battle Vazza left. He's had some time now to rest, obviously with domain playing in the last game. And he spent some time usually just whoever isn't playing we'll get on the ice during the optional skates in today both bass left the ending were on the ice. Oh, I think he's hungry to get back. And it's been nice for him to have this rest. You know, obviously, you never wanna see a player of that caliber and kind of the backbone of this team as many of his teammates have said about him being injured. But I think in the long run it's going to really help and as far as being fresh for playoffs and likewise with their blue line. I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily to be able to rest some of their veterans Girardi and Coburn and even surrogates have just to kinda give their mind a break, especially on a road trip. That's been this challenging so far. They'll give Eric Cherniak another chance to see, you know, everything he can get and everything he's got as far as being inconsistent player. And they have the luxury of where they are in the standings right now to see that. For sure. And you know, the back end, I think it's been a problem for Edmonton. As you said Kelly depth scoring thinks bit a little bit of an issue. But hasn't been an issue for Tampa Bay? I mean, I it seems like whoever they're putting it on that third or fourth line is producing another. It'll be a couple of.

"We told you about Andrei vasilevskiy, maybe the biggest save of the game in the second period at five fifty nine Eric Fehr thought he had himself a goal. For three of the game of the powerplay pattern tops it out to fare little lightening Zoloft circle et cetera grail at open takes up corner. Soups wildlife rebound Pollino trying to center. It bats Pollino, got it. Back right point pattern, appoint a Steeler shoots. Come grandma. What? The other way to God's another right wing was phenomenal. And lost a stick right before that as well. Pad save at a beauty fair again completely robbed Minnesota using their sizes. Katie was saying in that second period to try and wear down Tampa Bay as well got a little feisty. But Tampa Bay held all you've got to think they're just going to regroup here and have a much better third period. Again, keep in mind Minnesota played last night on the road against the Dallas Stars. All right. So I had a chance to speak with Matt Larkin from the hockey news earlier in the week, and we talked about a number of different things, but you heard the vast Levski safe right there. And that's where I wanna start this interview. A couple of minutes a preview of what we do on lighting power play with her various talk shows and starting out. I asked mats are people around the league really just on board with Audrey vasilevskiy being a top five even a top three goaltender in the game. Here's what he had to say. I mean, I think a lot of. People are on board deservedly. So I think is one of the top five goaltenders in the NHL, and he's always supposed to be a very elite prospect pedigree. Here's first round pick, which is pretty rare for goalies these days, he's very big. He's very strong explosive. And what I like about am. I talked to him a lot last year. And he really relishes getting opportunities even when he was called upon in the Cup. Final twenty thirteen gene joys the pressure. He likes a guy, and that's he worked number one goaltender that type of swagger. In terms of what's going to get him in the discussion among the very elite in the general populace fans, I just think it's consistency. So that's what's key last year. He was leaked to the first half of the year. And again, a nine thirty one percentage by the all-star break, but he's game really came down the stretch. And I think it was because he shattered his career high in starts and his body. Just hadn't seen that work will before he broke down. He did did rally a lot in the playoffs, of course. But I think people look at those numbers, and maybe soured opinion on basketball, just slightly. I mean, he still doesn't. But I think he can put together a wire to wire season of consistency. Then he's really gonna be revered as one of the top guys. Matt Larkin from the hockey news joins us here on lightning powerplay live. Matt this offense is so deep you mentioned having legitimate scorers on each line game breakers. No doubt JT Miller heck is on the fourth line. They break up. Stamkos and kucherov because they didn't like what was happening there. Did you like that move? How long do you think they stay with that? And what do you make of Steven stamkos more of a playmaker? Then as a shooter. Can he be effective? It's interesting. I I mean, I guess for now I like the move. It's just it's early right? So I think it's a good time of year for coaches to play with their toys and see what clicks. And I think that's what John Cooper's trying to do. I I still expect stamkos and kucherov to end up back on the same line. Because of the magic thing made last season, especially it's just too good of a connection. But I wonder if this is done in an effort to spark stamkos as. Shooter because the right he has developed this tendency to be more of a playmaker. And he's deferring to kucherov as the shooter on their lines. Whereas we stamkos is one of the best pure shooters. That's generation especially one time on the power play.
