"Say that's the one thing i will say about this again and i just lost a couple. More nets follows They every season asks for different things and they like you know the bubble was you need a group that's going to be Mentally tough for gonna throw them For that cliche out but that was led last year for the two years ago asked for the bucks last year they had that so but i also i agree with you on the bucks thing it. He just play style. That's really really hard to come back the next year. Yes and grinded out again. It was such a grind every single game watching them which i enjoyed. But i also understand that our thing to have as your basal exactly and like i should be fair to like they lost onto david. Chen zobel like looking at the majority of teams in the playoffs. Like okay dante. Great he was like their fourth or fifth best player last year one of their more important offenders but also like okay well. The hawks were missing andrea hunter. That really hurt them and they were still very good but like they got lucky with health in some ways to like a philadelphia. Joel was hurt for most of the series against the hawks like obviously brooklyn loses two guys or you could say one and a half. But i really thought it was losing to because james was like immobile by the end of that series It's just very difficult to have things work where you do. Have everyone healthy. So not to be unfair to milwaukee like i do think they got a little more versatile they got younger. Like i like the idea of shamir like a obviously people. I like him as like a rotation guy who liked thus stuff defensively. And i don't mind the hood either. Yeah i like you bank on rodney hood coming back from his achilles injury and and being healthier this season and i think that's a viable thought like i liked the grace analogy quite a bit. Actually he's actually given what they did to to give that up like again like okay. Well you're still relying on pat continent potentially to close games. I don't. I don't love that. So i am not a big fan of the landlord so maybe jordan or tastes that but like again..

"Good competitive industry that likes one of the clearest ways to be good is to be bad on purpose. Look at the atlanta hawks. I didn't need the finals. But they tanked. They got trae young andy andrea hunter and Kevin heard in the first round. John collins in the first round of lot. Now all those guys are top. Ten talk whatever picks but they paid for young dallas tanks for luca The sixers they flamed out like they've they've been. I think they've been a success right like they've been in the second round conversation like a contender conversation for awhile here. The bucks you know. They're built through the draft and homegrown guys to phoenix. Scott devon booker in the draft of andre in one like the path is obviously there. And it's something the league doesn't really want to be advertised and being highlighted. But it's something that's never going away. And that's something i would love to. Just have that open candid dialogue with him. I think you matter-of-factly referring to patrick ewing strapped as the frozen envelope draft. Probably won't get you in the door with adam silver but now that would have been. I mean his voice is obviously. It's it's valuable for clear reasons. And so that's that makes ten cents. What is your next book gonna be. That's honestly the hardest question foster could arrest And i'm working on it right now. That's for sure I'm wholesale the beans jake. Come on. I'm hoping to be able to say bike very soon. Like like before opening night of next year I i like. I'll say that. I wanna do something that touches more on society and culture at large through lens of basketball. This is like a fun industry nerdy inside basketball to use your phrase story and been great to talk about But i want to sink my teeth in fountain with more weight. That can do bit more. Good not to like the so chauvinistic. But i think that's like what the next step is. I look forward to hearing more about it and you can tell me once. We stop pressing when i when i hit. Stop on my record here. You can let me know exactly what it is can we. Can we talk a little bit about the off season. Did you do anything else to say about your book that i wasn't able to Let us say tom shinning. The last thing i'll say is that are glad to get into the newsy rumors aspect of this like there's that in this book. There's the human interest stuff like we talked about with. Spencer causes toilet paper and brett brown in the pool and like transactional stuff and real conversations. That happen behind the scenes trade calls like there's so much in this book on every pay like my favorite thing..

"And I'm not the world's Andrea hunter fan. He didn't come out, particularly well in any of the statistical projections that we have in kind of the ESPN family. My own ESPN Olympics does one and then five thirty eight he wasn't in the top thirteen of any of those. The highest he wasn't idiom was the end of the lottery. So, yeah, give you have so much value. They better be right. I gave the hawks D on that one which much to Travis Schlink's dismay the second consecutive year. They have not graded out particularly well when they're drafter trade, which still despite that they have this, awesome young core because trae young was great. I I've always been a big fan of hidden. It's prospect that grade last year was never a commentary on that. And then they nailed the John Collins and look like they nailed the Kevin Herbert picks. So if they do that, with the Andrea hunter, I mean, eventually, we'll probably not going to care about the cost, but it is a lot. All right. I want to clean up some business. That's happening this week. This is option week all these player options and team options come in during various days in this week leading up to Sunday, which is when free agency begins a lot of these have already become known. And let me just say that. When you ever whenever you hear a player option, if the player doesn't actually have to take action. So, for example, was reported over the weekend. The Kawai Leonard is opting out of his contract with the raptors. If y never says a word if gorgeous stands mute, which he is exceedingly good at he would have become a free agent. The only action he has to take us to say I opt in so there's in that may seem a little technical. But it, it does it does matter. So, for example, one of the big things this week that I am watching for is with the nuggets and Paul Millsap. Now Paul Millsap as a team option next year for thirty point five million to remain with another. It's it is it is. Because team option the team must speak up and say, we are exercising that option or not exercise. That option. There will be a full press. Release announcement one way or the other. And we're gonna talk about a minute there to me, there's three that I'm watching closely this week. And certainly if either of you are thinking of others, you can speak up. So the first one that's coming up on the twenty seventh which is what Wednesday is that, right? When Thursday Thursday, Marcus soul has a player option for twenty five point six million dollars. Again, he does not say a word. He becomes a free agent if he exercises that he will raise his hand. So that to me is, is an interesting one. The center market is really deep the summer if you want to center, this is this is the summer, you want to be in the market, because I, there's a lot of good names out there, which, again, we'll talk about in a minute. The Millsap option is really interesting to me because Denver. Denver is below the tax line even if they pick up the Millsap option, Kevin. But if they pick it up they put themselves in a position where they're kind of close to the tax. And you wonder whether or not they would use their mid level or more. Interestingly, they have a couple of trade exceptions. I know they remember they traded away Wilson Chandler last year and just handed him over to the to the to the seventy Sixers, and they've got a thirteen million dollar trade exception which could prove valuable in the next few weeks as teams look to get off money they could get a free player and one.

"And this is supposed to be the greatest moment in these kids lives like wouldn't you rearrange things maybe move the draft back or move free agency forward to make sure that the league year fell in the right place? So you can have these kids actually put on the right damn hat. Yeah. You can't move it back because quite honestly, the days, maybe I've silver watching to create greater chaos in college basketball, but I let me ask you this. Why can't you just do that? You know, it trade is pending. You know what trade is pending, right? Why can't you just say all right, that this guy drafted from Minnesota, but and put it on the head of the of the paintings Goto, and like, yeah, right? The contract would be signed yet, but they have been dealing place. That's what the guy was rapid. And that's yeah. What is what is so difficult about saying, look these teams have a deal? All right. And, you know, right now, the Andrea hunter was drafted by the jazz. But he's, you know, did a trade he's going to Atlanta right? Yeah, it was actually the Lakers, and you'll never be a Laker. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. So I mean like it to me. You know we make we make it so complicated. Yeah. I mean I have to be that complicated. You know, I think the other thing that we have going on with you know with the league and I don't wanna get too controversial is that we think we're spending so much time talking about, you know, to G league, and they're gonna, you know, they're going to go to raise the minimum, and I'm just telling you. Let's say an academic Ponant in the G league. All right. They're going to ruin a lot of lives. What they need to do is, we need to give likeness name and likeness to college guys. Because I don't think the values can be as great this whole idea that while, you know, the ball kids going overseas, because, you know, he's going to take that on bulk, it's going to see he was never gonna be eligible for college basketball. Right. So let something like this is not an epidemic, but we're, we're talking about such a miniscule number of kids. Let's make sure when whenever they decide to do what they're gonna do like the D league raising their minimum. One hundred twenty five thousand and then three years, some of those kids are going to be out of out of the G league, and they're gonna twenty dollars twenty five thousand seventy five grand as we know where does guy guys go back so leaking. Well like that. Component are they're basically. Prostituting these kids futures because they have nowhere to go back to and that it is something really wrong with that. Yeah. I it's gonna be interesting because obviously you have the NCWA and they're kind of position in the NBA. I it's a very weird weird dynamic Cirque lake but maybe for another day, you and I can sit down you and I maybe to chop it up at summer league, and we can figure this thing out a couple of weeks way. I hope I'm working with that'll be magic. There's no doubt about any seven academy. Stop it. I said, thank you so much, buddy. Always appreciate it. You're the best buy that was Greenberg ESPN college basketball analyst, coming up next. All right. Let's just talk about something that needs to be discussed when it comes to the Rams and Todd Gurley. Okay. You guys ready for. We gotta have a serious discussion here. We'll do that next. We're back at four and a half minutes..

"They get de'andre hunter national champion. He lost his father at a young age was wearing the necklace with his father pictured in it last night. Hunter the story of Jinya from what happened two years ago, then to what happened this year is tremendous. You get another piece in the Andrea hunter. And you also get cameras shoe. It's a lot of hot and cold takes on him. Either love him or you don't think he's going to be that great. But the third player for Duke goes in the top ten some other news and notes MBA draft the Cavaliers. They draft Darius girl in the injured guard from Vanderbilt towards meniscus this past year still did go number five. The Knicks brought him in the day before the draft for another workout, but he goes to the Cleveland Cavaliers at five with the Knicks take and RJ Barrett at three and they'll team him up account sex, and they try to make that the next big time back court in the NBA covert from Texas Tech, he goes to six to the timber wolves. And then you have the UNC stories as well. Kobe white to the balls at seven. Kobe white lost his father. Not that long ago they were as close as close could be dad put the basketball and his sons, Hans, they would play all the time they watch rocky together. Have all the friends over his house, a really close relationship. And unfortunately, has father passed away, not that long ago because of a battle with liver cancer, and the best Kobe, right? Reaction afterwards as he's very emotional. He was talking with the Sam, I got time to spend time with the family last night, a little bit at the draft, but really Koby white in his moment, you show how great of a teammate he was because I asked him I saw on the screen. So the press conference room. I looked over, and I saw Cam Johnson won eleven and that shocked everyone to Phoenix. And Kobe white had an awesome reaction that will play for you later on in the show that shows how great of a teammate he is. When it was in his moment of getting drafted and doing the media obligations and he was just shocked and so happy, I team that his teammate what eleventh, the seer little goes twenty-five to Portland, so three UNC players in the first round you have re Maurya first Japanese. Knees born player to be drafted in the first round that number nine to the wizards, you get the Kentucky kids going back to back PJ, Washington and hero to Charlotte of Miami. And then the one last story before we get to the break, because I know him up against it when we talk about these stories of family, the Sixers draft pick Matisse eyeball. He lost his mother to cancer years ago. And that was the emotional selection. They interviewed him retailers. Great job. They interviewed him talk about his mother that was a surprise pick. Very good defender. And it's someone that is very easy to root for with this story. So I was blown away by some of these stories we get all caught up in the top three picks. And they are great stories as well, and Zion, and John rant and RJ Barrett. But there were a lot of other stories as well, and I could go on and on and on about it, but I want to open up the phone lines, you eight five five two two four CBS eight five five two. To forty two twenty seven let me know how you thought your team did. Give me your reaction to the draft. And what was your favorite moment will keep on discussing the draft when we come back and we mentioned the pelicans, how good can the pelicans be this upcoming seasonable just out on the other side? It's Zach yelp show. We're off and running Saturday morning, right here, CBS sports radio. may not be stomach issues for me it's intense gas or pain or diarrhea sometimes all at once over and over i spent years with the symptoms but could never figure it out no matter what i did they never went away so i decided to break it down for my doctor and get really specific about my symptoms we discovered that execrated pancreatic insufficiency or ep i may be the reason for my stomach issues e._p._a. is caused by my pancreas it leads to diarrhea gas bloating stomach pain unexplained weight loss in oily stools the symptoms just don't go away but he can show up with even one symptom the good news is manageable but to get to the right diagnosis you have to break it down.

"That's a big time question moving forward to the next one, the biggest value before a couple of days ago on the show, the most intriguing talent there is in the draft Cam, reddish cameras had a little bit issue with his mid abdomen is down that area had surgery on that still affected him the whole year. But this kid is one of the most talented kids in the draft can shoot from anywhere on the floor. Yes. His shot was a little bit sporadic this year. But still he was top-five talent that went away. And don't forget, where he's going into the Andrea hunter or going to hawks play alongside trae young also one of the most intriguing teams in the draft as well as far as next year with NBA moving forward again, sneaking big move PJ Washington, people didn't talk about the Kentucky Wildcats year, Laura. I know you're SEC girl year. I mean if PJ Washington really reinvented his own game, John Calipari, really challenged him to be deleted for this team. He added a game. He added a three point shot as well. Can put the ball down ground people have compared into David west. I'm not saying he's going to be the piece that keeps Kimba Walker in Charlotte. But still defensive mind that God it can give you offense of explosion at times. PJ Washington is actually a sneaky, big move boom-or-bust. Little now. We might Smit on here who talks about all these guys and watches them all in the high school level. Little last year was a guy coming into this drab that was going to be a top five talent. Okay hours eighteen minutes per game plan for North Carolina. It was said that he had a hard time understanding this system for two tar heels, but simply and defensively but at six eight he's a guy that can diversity he can defend multiple positions. Gotta can't knock down the mid range jump shot and also guys he has possessed was game. He's one of the few guys in college basketball that wanted to guard Ziya Williamson all day, every day and took on that challenge head on heads to move. Okay. This kids game too, but Cameron Johnson. I mean not only got for me has got here for my man. What one? Three times. Twenty three years old transferred from Pitt into North Carolina how great year North Carolina, forty five of the three point line. But the amazing thing about Cameron Johnson. He's the oldest player drafted in the lottery says two thousand nine him. But respect on this since Tyler Handberg. Okay. He's seven months older than Devon Booker. I don't think anybody saw Cameron Johnson going with eleven th pick to Munich sons, and then last, not least shot guy, this, this is hate me for love me here. Okay. This is this is Jerry. Lebron Zo fear of God. You saw cut sports out something on the internet the other day. Rich fall about why they did this. I mean, this is Jesus walks piece right here. I mean, look at the drip drip, all I love it, 'cause I'm Vivian this way. Sometimes Brooklyn people in the mid west don't like it. I don't care. I love it. I think it was what he can look like a mock, but he's killing the game as among remind more, you know what I mean that one time when I was walking through New York City, and I was like. Wearing my pajamas and I ran into you accidentally that. Just wasn't like avenue. Let's not forget, Jalen rose. About it. We got to see this. I mean. Guy, real quick. I know he's gonna talk about it. But see this was very fashionable. Need a Taylor rose things every day all day. Always six about the future J expect them choice, stand up on his face. Matala just right out that. Life changes and J Rhodes. A small well done Jay. Well, let's go here. Celtics have lost Horford and most likely kyri Irving now that he'd to replace two of their best players..

"The pelicans obviously one last night in the draft because they got guys I on, we all know that there was also some shifting around remember the pelicans, acquired the fourth overall pick from the Lakers, as part of the Dave is deal. That's not yet complete that fourth overall pick was then traded before the draft to the Atlanta Hawks like it's very confusing. The hawks also a massive winner last night. We'll tell you why. But I do wanna get you, as I mentioned earlier the draft had me, crying ugly. Crying alone in my apartment last night as I watched young men. Get the opportunity of a lifetime. I asked you to tweet me at Jason Fitz, ESPN radio with your ugly, Krystof, we've had several of them. Scott gives. Scotty gives us one that we oh my God. All the time anytime that you get the soldiers to prize homecoming videos on Twitter. My God just discount me out for the next hour and a half. I'm done. I'm done. Heather says that her husband's Bryan song made him ugly. Cry Bryan song. That's another. That's another strong one. And Michael said the golden buzzer on America's got talent makes me ugly cry every time it feels like they coordinate that, like, I'm sort of new to the thing that wasn't ever my thing until like about a year ago. But if you only get the golden buzzer on some story that also is just going to make you ball. And yes, when the dogs greet the soldiers coming home undone like just the rest of the day, I'm out, you tweet me it's confessional time. Remember always honest with each other on the ugly crime moments. This is all based on last night's NBA draft. I want to give a lot of love to the Atlanta Hawks because what do you want from your team on draft night? Want your team to be aggressive team to go after what they believe. Now, the hawks last year went after trae young some people questioned that lot of question that, or people that thought the trae young, given his the way he played in the big twelve maybe maybe trade wasn't going to elevate to the next level. Well, everybody thought that was absolutely wrong. Trae young comes in. He's lights out the hawks last night aggressively go up to get the number four pick which they use on de'andre hunter and name. We started to see out of Jinya a name. We started to see really rise over the last forty eight hours before the draft. There was obviously a lot of interest in the Andre hunter. You can see that. Also, by the number of teams that we found out in the twelfth hour we're trying eleventh hour I should say eleventh hour we're trying to twelve hour that'd be late. They were trying to trade their way up to get to four five six lot of action for the Andrea hunter. He goes number four overall, and then the hawks sit where they are, and they get Cam reddish at ten. Important to note to the hawks moved out of the number eight slot in the straight that's important because as my goal exceed educated as yesterday in the last twenty five years, the person selected eighth overall in the NBA draft has never made an all starting don't know what that means, but it means glad you don't have the eighth overall pick. So now the hawks have trae young de'andre hunter cameras. That's an exciting young core to play. That's exciting. Young core to watch. When you start thinking about who's gonna make you get league-best, your big NBA junkie like who you going all into get league pass on this year. It's not usually on your radar. Yeah, we've got the Lakers. Yeah, you know the box all those things. But based on the draft who's gonna make you start wanting to move up. Well, the hawks absolutely have to be have to be that now Atlanta, Atlanta has been aggressive, and his Bobby marks points out that could dividends, not just short term, but also long term. Check this out, this is sort of amazing. That's one of those teams that we can be talking about, for that possible eighteen next year. I think it's going to be important. They've gotta think fourteen million room. They gotta go out and get some veterans for that bench. Some mentors and now lock and we saw last year with Vince Carter having a really strong role, but that's a team that's going to be fun next year. I don't know if they're quite right there. But if they can develop the follow year, eighty million in room because all these contracts are so, so cheap that they could be a destination for free agents eighty.

"One thousand. I really believe in three four years. We're going to be looking back and saying, why were we not calling this a four player draft because with the evolution of the point guard position in the NBA, right? All the guys having success. Our guys who can shoot it off the dribble with range in play pick and roll you look at Dame Lillard, you look at Steph curry, you look at Kyrie. That's exactly what is garland is he was a number one point guard on our board coming into the season. I really believe that if he didn't go down with the injury teams would be having the debate of whether or not he or John Miranda, is the best point guard in the draft. There you go. There's a sh- Mitzi. But he did go down with injury. He did go down with an injury and for Sheila put families really good on him today. Don't think it's five game average because he got hurt in the fifth game. I don't think he scored in the fifth game in the four games that he was planning. He was averaging over twenty points per game non-conference. Right. So a little lighter competition. I see like thirty five point game. I think that's what friends said this morning. Gotcha. You could shoot. He's a small guy too. Dan? Dockage is our guy. One guy small guy Dan's big guy, then walks with a big stick. What that means though. Yeah. I don't know any because he's got to fight off all that are coming at the end does not speak. Softly. No, no, for sure. He's got barking by Dan dockage. And he joins Waddle and Silvy right now on ESPN one thousand Dan dockage. How the hell are you? What? But we lost you. Yeah. That's you got hit by a hawk. Yeah. It was hot Hawk's zone. And I'm not talking about the hawk Harrelson willow reestablish, by the way, when I was walking into the garage yesterday. I heard a bunch of rustling coming from the garbage can was rat and our ratchet was off a high dive just jumped right out of that, at that garbage. It wasn't that. No. For city rat wasn't that big. Well it like that. But it's still like that. Yeah. Expecting that. Yeah. So I didn't think of dollar actually drove to the parking garage. Dan? You're back, and you're all you're an Indiana guy. So does that make you love various garland? Garland basketball camp and years ago. And he was like six eighth is dad Winston from Gary and was really good player Roosevelt, claiming MBA. I do like areas garland. I don't know. You know, I know the bulls, right? The bulls are all excited possibly Darius garland. Maybe. Great layup shooter, which sounds silly. But very important, Kyrie Irving. Isaiah Thomas Darius garland. I don't know you know because he was injured. I assume he's he's good. Everybody likes him. He was really good. Nice school. Compass hell to dad, was the same way. I like Darius garland, but man, you know what I was asking Kamar Baldwin today from Butler bother point. Put yourself as an eighteen year olds running an NBA team about every kind of art, but you're going to have to grow with him. And I think he's pretty damn good. I think he's really tough. What's his comp for guys that are in the league? Now, Sylvia was talking about how, you know, maybe the kid from Oklahoma last year trae young. I don't think he's wild shooting is Trey alleys score oriented, like trae young to meet became a bit of a pig last year is, is, is year in college. He can shoot it. I like I don't know if he's not Kyrie Irving, but he's kind of like that. I mean he goes into rim. He could finish its floaters. He can see to me the two best finishers I've ever seen that guard or a Thomas, the good Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving. He's, he's got some of them. I here's one thing that I don't think I'm headed percents. Sure. And that is a never know how far or how deep agai can shoot the basketball. I've told you guys before this going back a while. But when Calbert Cheney was the player of the year in college basketball. I had a bunch of NBA scouts asked me about him. I said grades best kid you'll ever find elite athletes fantastic shooter, but the NBA three point line is too far for him. And, and it was I think he said about eighteen nineteen percent on threes. And I always wonder that about people. I always wonder like all right? You're young kid. You gotta shoot under duress over bigger guys stronger athletic guys to fun. I don't know. But I think he's got a little trae young. I think he's got a little Kyrie Irving in them. And I think he's, he's like I think he's a tough kid. I think you have to be tough. If you're going to be any good leading your team, you know, if, if we're talking about the plows, if we're talking about just playing on a team anybody can play on a team anymore, the NBA because there's no and checking, but if you're going to be a playoff, you know, caliber point guard, you got be coming. I think he's tough what we were just discussing Deandra hunter and in really good career at Virginia tough kid, but like. I feel like that's the prototypical bulls player and scarred by that. Because why don't I would like a higher ceiling guy? More of a guy who can school 'rumour guy couldn't do it from the guard position. What are we wrong? Do you like the Andre hunter? Oh, I like the but me everything in my life revolves around gambling. Okay. Let me just practices again. 'cause I 'cause every college game like I got these knuckleheads told you this before the call me and say, okay, who's gonna win. What do you like? And I saw in the national championship game, the Andrei hunter the over under on rebounds was five so I'm like, look. He's gonna get eight to ten rebounds. This is a frequent lock. I was leaving my car and I gotta yell at the hawk in case. It's around. So anyway, true story. So I tell these knucklehead look, everything you got on the Andrea hunter over five and a half pounds. Well, I want my friends to win. So I'm studying the Andrea hunter, and you're right man. He had a great game. He was great. But I'm telling you in watch hill man, does he go after the ball saw, he can't revote? I was stunned by that. The dude can't re bunny. He's, he's. He's a great looking kid. He's got -bility. You said he polish he can shoot it was terrific. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But he always cost him actually national championship game. But I'll soft he went after the basketball, and that would give me pause in the NBA now I'm not saying it's you know, he's a really good player. Great kid, but I'm with you, Sylvia. I'm not I'm not jumping up and down standing on my head and Cooper snowballs 'cause I got the Andrei hundred. If you can prove a snowball, I, I you know what that'd be more exciting than the NBA draft. That would be cool. Yeah. Things go a lot of things going on internally in this body. Right frosty frosty. Listen. So if you're drafting seven for the bulls tonight, and both hunter and Cam radish, you're there, despite the ups and downs of a camera tish is there. More upside potentially for camera dishes. He if he's available at seven, I can tell by the question, you believe it to be, and I'd do that was while Lata like that was me. I'm the basketball fans. Start the smart one. Yes. Thank you. I am I am in on cameras. I think the cameras is victim like I'm big on watching what happens off the corner. It looks to me like RJ Barrett and Zayn Williamson got this little Colt thing going this click thing going while they were Duke and reddish was kind of the odd man out. I love cameras, and I'm setting myself up for ridicule. But the dude is six foot eight six foot nine. So the next one time he is tall he shoots it grazed got fantastic athleticism. I don't know if he's a blow by you guy. But what the hell is six foot nine? I'm telling you, my opinion, if the bulls, get cameras or cameras there and they don't get cameras. I didn't you guys are gonna be talking about some people over the years. 'cause I think Cam, reddish, I really liked long shoots, and let's be honest in the NBA playoffs. Two things. We did not here. We did not hear about rim protectors anymore, real here that and we don't hear about point guards anymore. What do we hear about? We hear about length athleticism and shooting the ball. And you gotta be able to shoot the damn ball cameras can shoot the ball and he's got length. He's got athleticism, if I'm the bulls, and I get cameras. I'm I'm good with. I'm really good with that. So I liked Kover a lot from Texas Tech, then wild got in the late and saw his worst games of the tournament is Kover a guy that you like to be a good pro. He's all right. I think I think, you know, somebody asked me today, would you take Culver, would you take the Andrei hunter? And my answer was probably the Andrea hundred just because I think I know a little more when I'm getting not in love with him. I think he's an improving player which I kind of like I think that, you know you like to see guys get better. I don't even mind you know, guys coming out of nowhere that kind of thing. But I you know, all right. Let me ask you this question. You saw as tourists games in the tournament were they bad games. I don't know if they were bad, Danny. But I didn't think he made the impact that he was advertised as possibly making I guess that's the best way for me to describe it. That's a that's a great way to put it in. Normally in your world in my world. You know, an older school world, I suppose the guy who's the seven ticket draft should should make an impact in the freaking NCWA tournament. No. I mean that's, that's not the way the world works anymore in the NBA kind of about. Well, you know, what's your potential, who are you three or four years from now? And I think call is a good player. I think he's a very good player, but I don't know again. I'm not staying on my head, right? Because we're all excited, we got Jerry Culver all right? All right. This is C. You know, I'm the king of the two game sample size. I came to my conclusion on call. Kobe white after two games, and I really liked what I saw from Kobe, white knowing the bulls have a need their greatest need is a point card. Could they do worse than Kobe white? If the bulls draft Kobe white if he's there at seven what say you, I'm happy. I like Kobe wide. I didn't Kobe white runs a team. And you and I think he's got I you know, he's got he got back to, you know, the phrase man, he to me, he's a dude. He's not he's not a fake. Do you know one of them guys, you know that, you know, like we had one here Romeo link for Roleo Lankford. Maybe he's going to be good pro but he's a fake. He came to. He came to Indiana and he was all about, you know what he's going to do in college. I call it shoe guy. He's a guy that's playing for a shoe company in the NBA more than he is playing for the college. Kobe was the exact opposite. I thought Kobe came to North Carolina to be a North Carolina basketball player. I I love that kid. I think look, I'm a bulls fan always been a bulls fan at the bulls got Kobe, y for cameras. That'd be cool with that. Very cool. So we ask you about Carlin. There's a lot of talk in Jalen was talking about it. There's we've heard. A lot of smoke about the bulls.

"The agile hunter doesn't shoot it as well. Right now from that range, but he's an interesting. I'll tell you the one guy would stay away from his camp. Right. She camp ready. Probably the most overvalued guy. Left. Didn't you know of of the top upper echelon guys, I do like Arlen? I like Arlen a lot. I like her a lot. I sit little of the season. I thought that that hunter was hunter was the most undervalued player in the country because of versatility defensively because he can make shots because of you look at the Virginia kids that have come out they big ready to contribute right away. Whether it's Malcolm Brockton. Whether it's Joe Harris, you know, even my Scott who's had a good career. They've done a good job of getting those guys ready to play winning basketball, and there's no drama with those guys. And let's look at the playoffs right now. Here's the one thing that people do in Laker land got understand look at the playoffs. Right. Keeps it alive this no drama within those teams. Those teams are solid as a rock katie's the closest thing that any drama, you know, left in in of the four teams left. You look at Portland drama free. You look at Milwaukee drama foot free. So when you when you look at you look at it you want guys that have lost in the game. You want guys that are lost in their teammates. You got guys that are serious about just getting better. And I think that's the one thing the Lakers need. I mean, the Lakers have a bunch of guys that maybe a lot of ways aren't a little the time. They love the they like the game they like the benefits of the game. But are they all in on on winning or they or do they like, you know, what comes along with the NBA lifestyle? ESPN NC A analysts Seth Greenberg with his hair coach I liked the Andrea hunter because of his age. But is there a is there a senior out there that the Lakers can look at in the second round because they've done an excellent job. I'm sorry. Cam Johnson drops to the second round. Both carolina. Cam Johnson has he's a shot maker. Who's got maturity guy, you know, early in the season is about the guy early in the season. You wasn't on anyone's radar. He was Kurt a little bit of last year fifth year guy. He started off at Pitt. A Cam Johnson is a really good a not a good value. He's a terrific value. If you can get him into if you can get him in the second round. I mean, he's a he's a guy in the after you get past twenty you're picking second rounders if you look at big picture. I mean compared this this. This draft effort says it's deep draft. It's heavy at the top. You can you can come up with all the things you wanna come up about it. It's not a good draft. And and we're going to be in a situation right now where these drafts because so many guys are coming out early are watered down the kid the kid from for Florida state. I think if he drops to the second round, which I don't think he'll drop cabin. Golly. I think it'd be drops to the second round. You're talking about six ten who could shoot three who has versatility has an interested as an interesting game. You know, in my opinion, if Carson Edwards drops to the second round, Louis king would be an interesting guy. Those guys are good prospects. Not seniors book good prospects that have a chance to to you know, to be winning players. And and that's the biggest thing you wanna find winning players. Seth Greenberg joining us ESPN college basketball analyst and go back to the top for a second. And. I think we all expect Zion to be the number one pick did does. He just come in. And immediately have a major impact. Obviously is a great basketball player. He plays hard. But seems like there needs to be some polish on his game..

"There's no science. There's no formula even with this tournament. There were people that thought Michigan state should have been a one seed instead of a number two. And then why do they get stuck in the number one in the same region as Duke who was the overall number one seed, it seemed like it was unfair to Michigan state. My point being is this whether you felt you NBC was a sixteen last year Virginia, of course, a very worthy one. It was bound to happen. But what about this road? What about this year? Right. It was another Virginia basketball team, which was certainly good enough to win a national championship. But there's always that skepticism with this club because they've been really good. The last few years, you know, national championship material made their way through the which is of course, one of the best conferences and all of America. So you knew that they were worthy. But you just wondered if their brand of basketball, the brand of basketball where they just sucked the life Adia. They're all about pace. I like to say they take the air out of the basketball could that be sustainable in March because for the last couple of seasons it wasn't. So for all the critics out there that did say that you know, what Virginia and Tony Bennett or never going to be able to win playing that type of basketball. Yes, what they shut everybody up here during this run of the last couple of weeks shut everybody up, and you can win if you play the right way, and you know, necessarily have to have a team. Littered with lottery picks or McDonald's all Americans. Now, granted the Andrea hunter is going to be a really good pro. At least he's got the makings of it. And he was by far the best NBA prospect on this basketball team. And boy did he show up in a big way last night. They're not winning the national championship without the Andrea hunter. And how well he played last night. We're winning the game. Not just because he made that impressive game-tying three there in the waning stages of regulation. But just the fact that he woke up from let's call it a slumber from the previous couple of games, and he wasn't maybe delivering on the scoring in as much as maybe we would expect with somebody of his ability and his talent phenomenal player. But college basketball over the years is also transitioned into a very much a guard oriented sport, right and Virginia's back court when you're talking about Kyle guy and Jerome, and of course, hunter those guys led the charge for this basketball team. And it was their poise and they're shot making talk about how about Virginia at the free throw line last night. You know, friend used to tell me when you look at this tournament, and when you really sit down and kind of zero in on what team is going to go deep and what team can make a run look no further more often than not than the free throw shooting department. You need to be able to make free throws in this tournament. And for Jinya..

"He actually locked up Jarrett. Culver Jericho wars five with twenty two from the field for only fifteen points. But also on the opposite end this do gave them twenty seven points made it three that was a dagger to tie the ballgame up and the versatility of his game. It's going to make him fit automatically into the NBA last night. I mean between myself Chris long, Danny amendola. Charles barkley. We were raving about him last night at the hotel bar just about the fact that he kept coming out you all the time. I this is who this kid is. And before he may have been top ten pick. I think now he's a top by pick in the draft that nobody really knows who's going to be behind that three picks NBA draft between RJ bear Zion. Williamson and John Mirant that forth. Name could be the Andrea hunter. Because of last night a great performance. No question about it hits the big shot to to tied and regulation. Jay. We'll thanks a million get some rest, my man, and we'll see you when you get back here to New York. We're looking forward to it. And you know, who was among those congratulating Virginia on. Winning the championship last night the crew from UNBC who made themselves their social media became legendary last year when they knocked at UVA in the first round last night, they tweeted what an incredible season for UVA was a turnaround for the ages. Congratulations to the chance they'll be bringing to the table here. Farnum who covers the sport all year long, and Jalen, of course, you played in this championship game twice and your career. Let's just start with the coal because so many things stem from these conversations. So do they get the call, right? When they go back and look at the call should they be able to call the foul that was obviously missed or the travel that was obviously missed where does that end at the end of the day. I locked the where we're at right now in college basketball as far as the review system goes. I mean, look, here's the problem..

"The Andrea hunter opened in the corner. The three times he had seventeen in the second half. We're tied at sixty eight in suing taxes taxation covert for the way. No, good run overtime. Where's time to championship game and eleven year in the OT Yuba down one hunter again how good with this kid twenty seven points for the fight it up back in Charlottesville. You'll be up to same school minute fifteen ago Jerome driving. No, we're going the other way. Here's a huge moment. In the game. The ball post away by hunter taught the hands of Dave Moretti, literally office hands a very close. Call alternately ruled Virginia ball, we'll talk about it in a moment. Because this went a long way toward the side of the outcome. In the end Virginia was briefing. And then this uncontested Jan Virginia wins eighty five seventy seven it was closer than the final scores out. And so again a year removed from the worst loss in basketball history. Virginia atop the college hoops now. Forget last year. The has just everything you turn up since you're a little kid. You know what I mean? I'm not even thinking about you in be right now. I'm just thinking. This is a dream come true. You have scars. Right. You have a scar. That reminds you that. But. You know, it's a memory. I does go away completely. No. I wish that went to happen. Some ways now say, well, if it bought us ticket here, so be it. We definitely had our time. We're in our shows and upset and whatnot. But to be able to move past that and get where we are. Now is incredible. He's the pain gone run. I still feel a little 'cause I remember that feeling, but I think I'm okay. What a remarkable game. And you know, who took notice you NBC. That's the team that knock you out last year was a sixteen seed offering their congratulations on Twitter what an incredible season for you VA that was truly a turnaround for the ages. Congratulations to the champs, and of course, on the positive side. There's always the negative side the tough loss for crispier and Texas Tech. Chris look like you stopped to talk to a couple year guys before they walked off the floor. What was your message to them after the game there? Just. Just taught him. I loved him. And. You know, relationships just getting started. Those guys I weddings one day. Hopefully when their kids get born. Do everything I can talk them out of getting into coaching. They don't ever feel like this. But I just love those guys. Tough loss for crispy or team at a three point lead with twenty two seconds left in regulation that gives them e seventy six percent chance to win the game. Virginia, overcoming a deficit of three or more points in the final twenty five seconds of regulation in each of its last three games. So perhaps we can say they were destined to win this championship. Let's a Minneapolis. Or we find ourselves Greenberg. Live good morning set. Thank you for doing this early in the morning. Let's talk about it Virginia down by three in the final seconds as they always seem to be and still found a way to win. What is your reaction to this incredible run? Well, you most times degrading at team reflects its coaches personality. And when you saw what Virginia did in the last three games when the game was on the line..

"So I do think like just because they're calling these close games, and they're lucky to pull out these winds. I do think Virginia's playing decently. Well, it's not like they're lucky their way into winning because it's more of like they outplay team. They almost fuck it up. And then they save it at the end, and that's kind of how they're advancing. But yeah, you're absolutely right. Texas Tech has been the best team in this moment. And I guess that's the point. I want to make is like, it seems crazy. But then it doesn't because it's like both teams are the best, and they deserve to be here in it doesn't sound that crazy to me. I mean when you look at Texas Tech's roster when you look at how they're playing you look out good defenses. Like, of course, they're playing in a title give just because they're jersey doesn't say Kansas or Duke like we're used to see doesn't mean it it shouldn't be that. Crazy villanova. Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those same rights or had to bring the Villanova fans would be mad at him. Bring that up. I think the cool thing about this. That you know, every single, and you know, this every single AAU team the replayed on your life. Every single rec league basketball team church league basketball team YMCA basil team where have you played on? You always see the team that defense championship. Right. And you always look at Wasi. They suck. You know? What I mean, those takeaways a kid like, well, they obviously can't do it. So that's our way to say. This is how we're gonna win. This is the case. I mean crispier build a team on defense. And obviously as your governor has a guy gained pidonia isolation situations score and the same that we have the pack line defense and Tony Bennett. And of course, we have the Andrea hunter and tiger in isolation situation as the score, but it is a defensive minded game. And that's why you look at it over under one nineteen right? And you look at the fact that Tony's probably be handed out in this game. Also get a lot of Tony's in this change again. By the way, the defense wins championships. You team is also the Dunkin warm-ups a Uteem, which would you tell tell. That they team sucks. If you guys are are throwing down windmills and all that kind of stuff. I remember what I figured that out like when I was in like seventh grade, and we're playing teams that are Dunkin warmups, I was should my pants and then by ninth grade. I was like, oh these dudes suck. That's what that means. If you're talking more of well, obviously, suck the dunk contest. You know, like, they'll find the one guy from prairie view AM who has a forty five inch vertical was like can't even dribble on the beige. Like this guy. You bring up a good point. Should we talk about the cause? Or should we do? We have other thoughts on on Texas Tech Virginia. We just keep our final thoughts on final thoughts. Rapid all rep up the games. We saw tonight. We're going to see Monday. Let's just put a bowl on this. And then we can talk about what we really want to talk about. Which is ourselves number one. For me Virginia. I don't know what's going on there. But there's some sort of higher power behind these guys baby. I'm talking to what's going so God's plan. Virginia yourself, Drake. As me. He said it's going to happen. Number two. Auburn an unbelievable run again. I don't want to discredit the fact that Auburn beat a canes team North Carolina team, and obviously human goes down that game. And then to be Kentucky say people I saw people trying to discredit the blue book because I became like sort of a talking point. Then Auburn beat Kansas Carolina Kentucky, and I sell people try to discredit some people. Try to discredit that can't wasn't Vance. Yeah. Kansas wasn't the Kansas that we know in love this year. They kind of sucked Kentucky game was kind of closed Kentucky and went to overtime. Maybe Kentucky put whatever the ads, but dude they beat the shit out of Kansas..

"And not only that I think their style of play actually matches up quite favorably against Virginia. Bruce isn't going to change anything that they do? They just got to be good at it. And they have been very good at it in these last twelve games if they can stay true to that formula. I think they have a real chance to get the Monday night. And obviously, they're they're short handed. Didn't it didn't seem to to have as big of an impact against Kentucky. But but Shuman being out where does that play into tomorrow night? Well, I think the biggest impact is going to be defensively. De'andre hunter is Virginia's most talented player. They have a very good team. First and foremost, they they were the prohibited. Favourite to be here. Unlike Auburn and unlike Texas Tech, and quite frankly, unlike Michigan state Virginia was everybody's tie into the final four this year because of the cast of players that they had returning. The Andrea hunter is very similar to PJ Washington. And if you remember when Schumer was out in the last game against Kentucky PJ, Washington went for twenty eight points and thirteen rebounds. It was a matchup issue for them defensively that could be problematic for over tomorrow. They're going to have to get a number of contributions from guys off that bench. Whether it'd be horse Spencer or macklemore are Daniel purify or me Dunbar. Those four guys cannot get in the foul trouble that they did against Kentucky in order for them to have a chance against a big and talented, frontline Virginia. I mean going back to the Kentucky. I mean, some of said, well, it was such a quick turnaround. But there's always a quick turnaround. But how do you think Auburn was able to to make up for the deficiencies? I think they're back court Paul we we'd sit all year going into the season in order for Auburn to be the team that everyone felt they had the potential to be Jared Harper and Bryce Brown not only had to be one of the best backwards in the southeastern conference, but they had to be one of the best backwards in college basketball, and they have been exactly that in this in this winning streak. They had no answer for either. One of those kids Bryce Brandon struggled a little bit in the first half. He came out in the second half and made play after play off the dribble, which is typically not his strong point. And then Jared Harper took over the game at the end Kentucky made a concerted effort to push out to the three point line not giving Auburn threes..

"And the reason for that. Wasn't like because because she explained act where he's like it wasn't like some chess move. You know, why they went zone they're tired, and he can't take Zion and RJ off the court. So he's like the only way I could get them to just not fall apart is Goethe's own and let them rest on defense a little bit. So it wasn't like let's go to zone because for Gina won't be able to attack us. It was let's go to zone because we've got to rest these guy, but we cannot take them off the court Duke only played seven players and Zion. Cam RJ inject white each plate at least thirty seven minutes in that game. And so just there was a lot of interesting little coach stuff going on between K and Tony Bennett that I thought was just fascinating to watch on fold in real time. Okay. So seventy nine eighty to seventy three eighty three seventy five eighty to seventy seven seventy four. Seventy to ninety one sixty three what are those numbers there? The amount of possessions in games Duke has played dating back to late November. The sixty three is obviously Virginia Duke average is about seventy five possessions per game. They were twelve less against Virginia. Too. Little surprise, obviously, Virginia plays at a tempo that that is that Chris slowest possessions per game on average in the country. But the fact that was so tired speak so well of Virginia and the way that it makes you play on both ends. But particularly when you're trying to face that offense in the in juke needing to go to a zone out of fatigue against that scheme. But also those players let us lead the charge in stating that Virginia has this secret. They've got potentially multiple MBA players on Braxton key legitimate athlete. Andrea hunter, obviously Kyle guy. Fantastic. Five star prospect in a really good player that good athlete. Mama d day. No slouch. I thought he had a solid game. And Jack salt is a big body down there. These teams are built to bring out interesting facets in one another in ways that against most other teams, they'll play won't. So that's why again, I can't wait for the rematch three weeks with love to see if we could get them. One more time at least in the postseason in the ACC tournament or would have to be basically probably under final four circumstances in the instability tournament, it'd be treated we've got these teams three times in one season. Right. It's very rare for teams to play four times in one season. It has happened. And listen, it's improbable if only because a lot of things have to break certain ways. But I don't think it's crazy to imagine a scenario where these teams are playing for ACC tournament title. And in these two teams are playing a final four perhaps even in a national championship game. Like, if you're putting together a list of legitimate national championship. Tender's Duke and Virginia both have to be on there. And I know Tony Bennett as never been to a final four. And I know they lost to a sixteen seat last season. That's got nothing to do with this team. This team is rock solid. And they almost even with Zion an RJ play in the way they played. They almost were able to get a win at Cameron indoor like, you said the Knicks games in three weeks. Believe you'll be there. Right. I'm scheduled to be as long as long as things break the right way. I will be in Charlottesville. Yeah. So that'd be that'd be terrific. Let's move on on Saturday morning. There were two undefeated teams left. It was obviously for Jinya and Michigan by Saturday night. There was Eero. That's because before Virginia lost Duke. Michigan lost at Wisconsin. Final score was sixty four fifty four, but it was a controversial ending. So there's fifty nine seconds left Michigan's down three and Iggy breath. Jake is intentionally fouls. Ethan hap- away from the ball because eastern half is a forty nine percent free throw shooter. Let me stop there for a second. I love. Giambi doing this. I mean, we'll get to where it messed up in a minute. But the extending the game fifty nine seconds left a lot of coaches. In fact, I think most coaches would say we're down three we shot still on..

"But see problems on a good job with that team. And they've been short handed. Now, they're starting to get back to where they're supposed to be Linda Wigan is now back he's averaging like fifteen points per game through I think three games two games back. So I don't think it's crazy to have. I would say to they really could finish up there. Yeah. And camera lard getting back into the rotation as well as significant I was surprised by low all of our colleagues you included had ISU. Now, this was the worst team in the league season ago. So it's a lot in a conference the big twelve to expect a team to go from tenth to second in one year. I I was in in my pick there. I think the lineup actually will split the difference. I've got him second. And you and everyone else had him sixth and watch them finished fourth. But I don't know. I was a little surprised because I think that what they've got overall is very talented roster and don't have a bad loss yet lost on Arizona's to neutral. I won't call that a bad loss full strength. And then they lose at Iowa. They've got you know, we'll get to the preview in a minute here. They've got a tremendous opportunity on Saturday hosting Kansas. But I like I say Justice midge ahead of Texas Tech just a little bit. I've got the red raiders third in the ACC. I went with Duke you went with for Jinya. I got for Gina to you got Duke to then we both have you in C three. So we agree on the top three in that league. We don't agree on the water. Yeah. I will. I was in on Virginia as the best team in the preseason. I'm not going to move off that it's the highest rated undefeated team in the metrics at this point still out rates for Jinya. It would be it'd be it'd be something. If this if this UVA team, which is not short on talent Kyle guy highly touted prospect coming out of high school has had a really good college career. Andrea hunter might be top fifteen pick. But if it can outperform, the blue devils man that would be that'd be a lot of fun. They get to play twice, which is which is great. There's a home away with Virginia and Duke, the first one doesn't come into mid January. And unfortunately, Virginia only has one matchup it's at UNC on the schedule this season. So those three teams will not have your round, Robin amongst each other. But dukes the overwhelming pick it makes sense. But I just didn't wanna move off of my Virginia Piven, they still haven't lost a game and figured it. Still made sense to to stay with them in the SEC. We both went with Tennessee to finish first Kentucky to finish second. I had Auburn third. You had Mississippi State third. But I believe I had Mississippi State fourth in. I if businesses take finishes above Auburn that won't surprise all been Hal. And it's got a an obvious. Very good basketball team his first really good basketball team since taking over and star for when I talked to been I don't know at some point few weeks ago, and he was really excited about about this team. He likes his roster, and he likes the way it's come together. I'll take it a step further. You know, I think Tennessee has to be the pick right now based on what they did last season combined with what they brought back combined with what they've done so far this season. But if Mississippi State is is s champs or coach that that will not be a shocking development. That's a good team fair team perish. We haven't talked about him enough on the podcast yet part of that's because they haven't had a lot of a lot of games have been featured like when they've had good opponents the games. They've played have been overshadowed by other games that night or that weekend. But Helen's got it moving twelve and one unquestionably in my opinion, playing like a top twenty team in college basketball, right now dairy Weatherspoon has been a three years going top one hundred player in the sport. But they've got more than just him. Lamar Peterson solid Tyson Carter Nick Weatherspoon as well. I think this will be a very good season. I think Mississippi State is destined to be unless like it's the shocker winner of the SEC tournament or regular season. Then they'll kind of really. Improve their profile..
