"Got a different feel with this city in connection with this city, almost as if he's somebody who has brought a championship here, so a lot of people had ah lot of emotions. But then it's since people towards anger because They know a big reason why J. J wanted out of here and wanted to leave along with the team president along with Ishaan, along with other people, is because this organization is being run into the ground. And the they're allowing this to happen and the owner as eight as Andre Johnson said. Has wool over his eyes that he is just getting taken advantage of, and I think that part of losing him and the anger of why they're losing him was was on full display with fans and listeners yesterday. Where's your field on where JJ Watt would land. To me. I think it's I think, JJ. One thing that he's talked about a lot since he's been here is how important the quarterback position is and how important it was to have a guy like to shine and man, you always have a chance When you got a quarterback this legal about quarterbacks, and I think J J wants to experience. I mean, JJ's never been out of the divisional round of the playoffs like that's the furthest we've ever been. When I think about that. I think you've got to look at big time quarterbacks that are ready to go, and it just makes too much sense. His hometown. He still has a home in Wisconsin. Green Bay. Seems like the destination spot to me where he would go. If crazy stuff wasn't happening in Seattle with Russell Wilson, I would say that would be another location. What people say Chicago don't have E. Don't think he's going there with the quarterback. Pull it play that they have their I think Green Bay is the one that makes a ton of sense. That is my guy. Ron. Hugely. He does fantastic work for sports radio 16 in Houston hosting afternoon sports talk radio Ron Man, I'm so proud of your success, man. I'm so happy for you. That's my guy. Ron Hughley joining me on today's show, Let's react to what Ron had to say. What he had to say about the shown wants in and that the league could potentially get involved in. "We know that Mahomes into Sean are very friendly, and we know that they have probably talked about the enemy before, but it's not a so to Shawn Watson has been campaigning for the enemy. I mean to Sean gets asked about him, and he says nice things about him. I think he would like to play for Eric, the enemy. Don't get me wrong. I think the difficult thing right now Johnny's is how damaged is the relationship between two Sean and the Texans who is to Shawn at a point now where he's even wanting to give input on the head coaching search, or is he just so checked out? That that he's he's just backed away from the whole thing because he's just he didn't want to be here anymore. You know, that's kind of what that s I article indicated is that you know, quote he just wants out if he just wants out, and he's not giving input on the next head coach. Of America the enemy. I'm not choosing to go to the coach for the Houston Texans have to Shawn Watson isn't on board and I think that's the chicken in the egg with this thing right now, With all these head coaching candidates if I'm any of the head coaching candidates, other than maybe some of the re treads that are out there that are just looking for a job. But if I'm a be enemy or a Brandon Staley or a Joe Brady or even a neighbor flu's guys who haven't been a head coach before, but who are hot candidates this year and presumably are going to be hot candidates in the next cycle as well. Do I want to take the Texans job? No. One that the Shawn Watson might not be on board and he might not be part of this thing. Hell, no. So it's it's gonna be It's going to be a really interesting and again. I'll use that work delicate time here over the next couple of weeks. Yeah, it's a great point because they take the job and it and the Sean John Watson doesn't care that he took the job. He still unhappy. So now he's going after next year, and now you're sitting here with this bad organization without a quarterback, and that's right. And now you've taken the job, Jack Easterby. Yeah, that team chaplain character coach now the vice president of football ops. How much of a problem is this guy with everything that's going on right now with the Texas He's a huge problem. I don't think You know, I e think people need to understand this about Andre Johnson. And I don't think Andre Johnson's tweet is going toe force change. Otherwise, something might have changed already. But I think I think your list there's no Andre Johnson sent out a tweet last week that basically said that you know it encouraged to Shawn Watson to stand his ground. It's said that the Texans have made a habit of wasting great players careers, which is true. Andre Johnson, JJ Watt. They're in the process of doing that with this John Watson, and then he went on to say that nothing good has happened in or for the organization since Jack Easterby got here. That's also I think, not even an opinion. I think that's a fact. So so hungry, made a lot of good points. I think what people need to understand. And I'm just using Andre is as sort of a way to illustrate my answer to your question that this guy is a huge problem. The last time Andre Johnson tweeted about anything other than a sponsorship for Crown Royal video. I guess he has on Twitter. Is April of 2019. The dude had gone almost two years without expressing an opinion on social media. And then he just hits the piece, slamming his fist on the red button for the nukes on Jack Easterby. This is not an Andre Johnson over action. People he'd understand. 200 was in the building last year. He was on the coaching staff last year with Bill O'Brien. He was, you know, kind of Ah, you know, almost like an intern on the coaching staff. Um, you know, helping out with wide receivers kind of things. He did not come back for 2020 once they traded DeAndre Hopkins. I think Andre Johnson saw the writing on the wall tonight. I need to be here for this this thing..

"With how ugly the situation is, you would get a king's ransom because that's how great of a player he is at not only the most important position in that sport, but the most important position in sports period. The franchise quarterback. And they're taking the opinion. This is not built, Bella check. That you have in the organization. This is Jack Easterby. He was the Patriots character coach, Not that long ago. And now he could Whatever he wants in the Texans organization, he has freedom to do whatever he wants. I play hardball. I get what I want. I'm Nick this area. I know This is an awkward situation because Easterby even though Nick hysteria was definitely more than qualified, but Eastern, he was in the ear of comic there and basically got on the job. Would say, Jack Love you, your pal. I got to do what's best for the Texans organization. And get Jack Easterby out of that organization. That's what I would do The Texans at this point I have to get rid of Jack Easter Bay. It's an optics thing. Has now your franchise quarterback and Andre Johnson. Are annoyed. Mm hmm. This thing took a turn. This thing took a turn even worse than what I could imagine, and I've been so critical. Of the Texans organization. I didn't see this in the playbook. Andre Johnson. "Of magic City for you. Power hungry man. Always a preacher Vido. He's a preacher. That's what he is. Chaplin, the team chaplain, chaplain. Yeah, Strange story. How he got the power. Strange story. Yeah. I mean, can the Texans put this back together? Because, look, the I just feel like that is a player that you don't trade. But I mean, if Shawn Watson is ready to play hardball, as Andre Johnson is encouraging him to do that they're hand might be forced their honestly I don't even know I mean, I guess if somebody calls and offers you too, Shawn Watson, you you do it, But I think I think Miami really likes to. Uh, I think that they're they're all aboard that plane as well. But we have seen with 22 is still so young. We saw those moments J Beetle this year when he looks so good. But then remember, he got Yanked out of the game late for for the beard, A couple couple couple games all the time. So clearly not the best quarterback on that roster. The Sean will not get pulled from games he will not Oh, you don't put baby in the corner. Sean is obviously an elite quarterback in this league. But are you going to get that elite level of play from him? If he truly has soured? Not only I'm the entire organization, right? I mean, what's your motivation? I understand your teammates, but if you're like, Wow, I'm well. And if I mean he wanted them to interview Eric, the enemy, the offensive coordinator from Kansas City, they were not going to do it. Now it appears there. I'm going to call it a token interview. But if they hire a guy who he doesn't like that, Yeah, he's just from the beginning Playing for a coach that he doesn't like. I I don't see this. You've got no real path to surround him with talent. You have no draft picks. You spent up a bunch of cap space on guys like David Johnson. Brandon cooks on so Yeah, I don't. I don't see that situation improving for Houston. Maybe it is the right thing for them just to blow it all up and start over. Get some pics back. Head, huh? I just say, I think.

He had twelve carries for what was it. Sixty yards and a touchdown are twelve carries for whatever yards the six six catches for sixty three yards and such. I'm sorry he had two rushing touchdowns and six guys for sixty three yards on nine targets. So he did a great job. Filling.

Whether I'm there or not, it doesn't really matter. Next year is when you'd be on the ballot, so we'll wait and see. We assume, though, that you'll have really good conversations surrounding your candidacy because you had such a wonderful standout career. This is a time of giving, and this is the holiday season and you've always been very front and center with moments of charity and doing great things in the community, especially in Houston. You had very famously, the toys spree for the kids, and that kind of went viral for the Andre Johnson Charitable Foundation and helping kids have a happy Christmas. Why was that so important to you? What it is so touching about that helping kids have that type of Christmas experience. I just think You know? Just when you grew up, I mean, Different situations. You know, we all grew up in different situations and Uh, you know, things you may have experienced as a kid. You know? You know that there are other people out there that may be experiencing the same things or even worse. So immediately just You always said I was able to make it. Um you know, I would Wanna, you know, just don't think they're just trying to put a smile on someone's face. Or you never know how that could change a kid's life or you know what they're going through. So Um, that's why I will always did. You know the shop which create towards the rest with the kids? Because You never know. You know what hope for what? You know what would that kid may be going through? And so that's why you want to provide happy memories for kids now. Um Hmm. They were happy memories. I just think, uh, you know, Yeah, he wasn't always fortunate to that. You know, get Certain thing. You're Just, you know, get big and get you. May I wanted and You know, sometimes it may not have been 678. You're 19 gifts under the truth, You know, uh Maybe it was just that one thing that you got so You know, it's just my gosh, There's just certain things you experience as a kid. And, um, you know, I just wanted to change change that, and, uh Mind itself in my family in a better situation. While I'm doing that, you know, be able to bless other than you know, Help put a smile on that face. Andre Johnson joins us here on CBS Sports Radio. He won a national championship of the Miami Hurricanes. Remember the Texas Sports Hall of Fame? The Houston Texans, Ring of Honor? And while you did play for both the Titans and the coal to the end of your career, you're obviously most associated with the Houston Texans. They're going through some major turmoil right now. Bill O'Brien fired earlier in the season. There was a lot of speculation of the end of your career in Houston, that you and him had a broken relationship. It sounds like you guys repaired it. Where are you right now? With Bill Um, yeah. Good relationship. Okay. I mean, when I was there, I wouldn't say it was the best relationship. But You know all the time. You know, you sit down and talk, you know? Just figure things out, and, uh No way. Have a good relationship. You know, Like I say, you hate to see anyone get fired. Good job, things like that. You know that's that's the nature of the business. You know, when things aren't going the way people make their they should be going. But In the largest wish, bill the best on you know, I'm I'm sure you're getting another coaching job. Just go move forward from there. Right now, The Texans are dealing with their own controversy, as Will Fuller and Bradley Roby. Two players for the Texans test positive for PDS were in violation of it, so they're suspended the rest of the season. In the next year as well, and people are pointed the finger at Brian Cushing. Potentially, Cushing has said to ped violations in his past. He's a member the coaching staff when you see news like that pop up out of the Texans yesterday, where do your thoughts about it all? I just think you surprised, Um You see that? Um.

"Okay, so the devil's get Andre Johnson from Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Joakim person. This is just Kyle dubas trying to reframe the bottom six for Toronto. They had too many top six forwards Andre Johnson is not directed to be a top-six forward and I think they just needed to also move some cap and some money out to get some cap relief and boy has Toronto been busy this month or two waiting Chris not Yeah, this is again Toronto picking up the stuff and throwing it at the wall and scraping some of it off. So, yep, seeing what sticks Colorado gave Brandon Saad in exchange and defenseman Dennis Gilbert from Chicago and exchange for defenseman. Nikita's is a door off and an Tomlin home. So Brandon Saad is going to Colorado. It's not like Colorado needed any more freakin offensive Firepower. Now, they've got another top-six forward and it's just an insult saying the the amount of moves that Colorado has done and how well they have picked up some some players. That was a good one for Colorado. I think there was also some nights there was talk about Chicago Blackhawks players very much not liking this trade if that if I'm thinking about that, correct, is that right? Right. You're correct. Jonathan taze was not happy with especially the fact that Corey Crawford was You know allowed to leave to go where you go new New Jersey. Yeah, something like that. But and yeah, he was not happy with the direction of this team is going apparently. Yeah, I think I think the Blackhawks are finally finally conceding. I think that's a this offseason is showing that they're kind of they're kind of going to go down into the bunker and start rebuilding that team. So, we'll see if some other big stuff happens from from them if they completely blow it up, but I think they're done for now. Well, we'll see if they have any kind of decent hockey team left of speaking of Colorado freaking Colorado. Not only did they go out and get a top-six forward, but they also went out and got the volunteers ye from the New York Islanders and I love davantes. He's I mean, he would I would love to see him in Dallas. Obviously, that's not going to happen at least now in, Colorado. But he is in Colorado and I think davantes is a huge upgrade over Nikita. Zadorov. Now don't get me wrong. Dourif was a very good defenseman for Colorado. But you know divorce is just an upgrade on that and all they gave up was were to second round draft picks. So they didn't they didn't even give up a first-round draft pick they gave up to second round draft picks for collar off the car audited for davantes. So goodness gracious, man. I don't like Colorado anymore. They're hiring. I know they're I think I think they're really ticked off that they lost to us and they were like, we're going to make quadruple sure that nothing happens this year after the battle for the the central conference if it's still the central conference this season is going to be mad tough. Yeah, I can't believe maybe I'll talk about at the end of this podcast but that for another podcast. Yep..

You got a couple of hall of famers on their produce through produced a few guys over the years when you say, yeah, is Andre Johnson hall of Famer. That's a good question. I mean, he he, he's gotta be in the mix. I mean, you, you know, maybe not first ballot, but you know, you start talking to as a guy who's you know not only had two high, you know, high production, you know, as much as anybody in the league, but over a long period of time. And I always think that's kind of the the magic, you know, kind of equations that they use when they talk about skill players is you know where you had dominant player at your position and if so, for how long and you know, I think his numbers, if you know of course, sometimes they hold the the Super Bowl stuff against guys and that's something. But yeah, if if if they hold te'o out for perceive not being a great teammate and whatnot, then they should give the benefit of the doubt to a guy like Andre Johnson who is as good, a teammate as good, a person as everybody who's ever played with them and known them couldn't say enough, good things about them. That's gotta go for something if it can go the other way. Right. How crazy was the competition at the you just practice? Yeah, I'll tell you. I on my the way I sum up my whole experience, so I transferred. From Notre Dame. I arrive on a Friday after they opened up the season. I was a week late. They had already opened the season against Louisiana tech on Thursday night. I watched it for my my family room and my my home in New Jersey. I flew out there Friday morning went to the Friday meetings, and then we had our first practice on Saturday. We break the huddle. I'm on the scout team and of the eleven guys on the starting defense. I think seven or eight of them went on to get drafted in the first round, know either that year or the following year. So I mean that kinda symbolized what what it was like. And you talk about an eye opening experience just being around such good talent at all. Three levels of it was it was a very unique experience in my time there, but who was the talent that you just went? Oh, my God. I never encountered this when I was playing football, New Jersey. When you break the huddle and you look across and the linebackers John Vilma DJ Williams at safety, they had Sean Taylor. I mean, you Vince well, for, I mean, those guys were on the same p.m. You know? But I think if you had to pick one, I mean, Sean Taylor was, you know? I mean, obviously just a tragedy..

"Special AJ green. Remember when courtroom. Nagin and Andre Johnson got into a fight and Andre Johnson was, you know, known as a professional or quiet guy, never would say anything bad. Never had a public controversy with his word note. And when he got into a fight a fistfight with Cortlandt Finnegan on the field, you knew Cortlandt Finnegan must be really good at annoying people, and we've never seen AJ green do any real talking on the field carries himself a lot like Andre Johnson did and Jalen Ramsey got to him. Well, this is just a new thing, though, the idea and that's sport of somebody being so great and knowing it and telling you it, that is not something you see in the violence business that often when it's football, you see it in boxing, but you do not see a guy who comes forth and is willing to say, Joe flacco sucks. Ally Manning's overrated. When talking to Meena about the green incident, Jalen said what he told AJ green and what he told them was I call them soft. Called him a punk. Talk to him, said whatever I wanted to. I did whatever I wanted to. He snorts receivers are like naturally soft, that's so sensitive. Love the more right and more like you're not going to Jacksonville's not going to get into our face and into our conversation with the quarterback like this team is led by Yvonne should have beaten the patriots. If they had a competent quarterback, they would have actually their quarterback was the conversation. Last year wasn't a, I know, but you shouldn't have quarterbacks competences in question. I don't think wrongs good. Now the quote, from this meantime soy, I don't think wrongs good and Meena reacted the way that most people would react just taken aback by it and then he corrected himself. I mean, let me just say, I don't think gronk is as great as people think what you know what, though I, some of his assessments. I'm wondering how it is that I'm getting snowed by Jalen Ramsey. 'cause the advanced metrics tell you now how good people are in that sport, the football insiders, all of that stuff. Their ways of doing the measurements that we've never had before and Jalen Ramsey is except. Personal, but his viewpoints lineup with my viewpoints, which is that Matt Ryan was a system MVP that he's with holy Jones that you've heard me say that I what I think of Matt Stafford as everyone yells at me. Right? Like his and I'm not saying he's opinions or right? I don't think they're informed by the by the data. I think they're informed by. He's just a loud mouth. You're saying the same as yours, right, but I'm his, it's he's doing is he doing it with his? Is the same way I am like, is he doing it? A lot of people wonder, grotto also played against them that helps. Look gronk is leaps and bounds better than anyone else in the history of his position to say. He's not that good to say he's a system tight end is not something a lot of people are saying Jalen Ramsey on AM and dole. This is not from menas article. He's just got a brand new contract and he is terrible. Jalen Ramsey said, people think he's so great. He's not on Brady, made him. Look On on could could take take me Niyaz. as a receiver, and I'd be a first team pro bowler. Mike, how great is the week buildup of him. Verse Odell Beckham junior week, one odds. We said this about Josh Norman at the time if you livered yet, if you put that on pay per view at, I just got to watch on a screen Jalen Ramsey and Odell Beckham junior the entire time you asked me to pay for it. I would pay for it. This show in free time for some at an expensive. You're also completely just the weirdest because my grind I'm not kidding you. This is something that happened that he was just spitting it his computer, Chris Carter, hey, Chris Carter, you held onto years too long. And now you're telling Adrian Peterson to retire, please. And then he looks at himself looks maybe his reflection the computer and just takes his head and says, why do I care. Why do I care? I am. Chris Carter was just yelling at Chris card, two years still on them. Donlevatar stugatz listens very poorly. I'm not sure he was listening right there..

"Why would you say why would you for who you are you have to understand i don't fuck if you believe in his political ideologies i don't care that was an important historical moment for bragging in this country so why would you go hold a meeting with a roomful of black people and say that's to shit right so do i do ain't said that said that park by heard that and went in i think it was new york times he had an interview and said oh he's he's a liar he's a troublemaker that never how that was the do bra yes traded him to seattle seattle but then so andre johnson came on my podcast confirmed and i like the bullshit about it was like every was known it was kind of like set everybody knew that have but he's but like like i said he continues to believe this facade of of what he's saying and the nfl is so politically divided right now as the country that that people are are drawn lines in the sand and but that that that adds to the character of what the nfl owners feel about the players in makes you it makes you think this is how they all think makes you feel like this is how they all must feel like this almost think especially when you look at the situation with cat right capper nick and and my boy erie not because i think he has the worst air greed has it the worst i'll tell you why because he should be playing not only that but like one hundred percent but he took a knee the date kat took a knee and so he took that stance with him but he's not being heralded in in our community as as the guy that that that made that sacrifice i play kevin book deals and speaking engagements for the rest of his life he's going to be his legends go eric retook all those bullets but he's not getting any of that notoriety and i felt so bad for that man because he's he's he i mean he's still he's still wanted to he's a starter starting safeties.

"To overtake them and andre johnson put up a good fight but eventually as calvin johnson hit his prime he became the best receiver in the game and i believe that's about to happen at age twenty five turning twenty six for dell beckham junior he's the eyeball test says he's better than those guys how good he was at certain ages says he was better than those guys and furthermore guys he really hasn't played so far in his career behind a decent offense of line or on a team with a running game which would help him greatly even evan ingraham last year rookie tight end usually titans take about a year to get going this season the giants will see what the offensive line is but certainly it should be better than last year willer nand isn't need soldier on the left side and they drafted saquon barkley who's another all world oh my god i've never seen that before level talent in the running game and he can catch passes out of the backfield so is set up both in terms of age in the trajectory trajectory of his career and now what his own offensive side of the ball has on his team to overtake brown and julio jones is the best why'd out in the game and i'm calling it by the end of this year you'll all be agreeing with we'll god love it i love that you're calling it i mean you look i get a little sick and then i come in and out of the show i'm a guest on most occasions not today but there's a double standard okay that's the god's honest truth there's a double standard for what i'm held to and you the truth matters i get all right there and you were saying.

"We when we were kids we spent more time outside you know we wanted to go outside play football play basketball whatever you route through the neighborhood now you'll even see kids outside yeah so you know it just they just end the different things you know smoking weed and doing whatever that's that's the best thing for like the influence of drugs in our communities have always kind of been there but it's weird nowadays what i'm noticing is really the internet i think is kind of created this there's really no barrier so like their influence is a lot bigger than ours was ours was like just your surrounding areas your neighborhood and like you kinda wanted to be like the boys you saw the doe boys boys told you not to be like that or like nowadays it's just like a free for all because of the internet i think too like coming up like when our play lily the the dope boys were more like your sponsor i i know know what what i'm i'm saying saying they will more like you know hey you go out here and score a touchdown you get paid you know they they kept you away from that you know they don't wanna see you you know following the same footsteps they had they always wanted you to be better you know what i'm saying so i think i think that has a lot to bility i mean it's hard to pin because it's a it's a i mean it's it's a countrywide pedantic.

"Not not onus i it was a point in time where we weren't allowed to be onus added abridge but you me blacks just didn't go to south beach really yeah i had that's brand new news what was the aspect of that what was i mean we just we just didn't you know we won't won't it over there wow unless you will working right so wow when did that kinda was like that when you grew up winning that kind of start or i'm not sure to exact you right it it just wasn't like they used to be this club called it was called chris style you may have known it as club play or i don't really go out of mind that that was that was the furthest we we would go it was soon as you came over the bread you know all that other stuff like they do not hanging out on the beach and all that stuff that's wild and kind of like known yeah it is not yet you didn't go over there you mostly would be like we went to the beach we would go to haul over that's mike you ever heard of avenue them all down there bear harbor shop that's like an okay so we went to the beach to the crandon parks so when did that kind of change like when you got money i wouldn't say when i got money because people were going over there before i just i just thought it.

"He trade because they're so fleetingly rare like trading a twenty five year old super duper star in before he's even reached his prime is not how you get better in this league that's a fair point side note like your jacket allot looks very new wife's the style so that i haven't seen you yet today soom i can say this eighthly love the sweater pretty smart okay right i can now say it right okay here's another thing it would it would be very easy if a coach came out and said i don't like celebrations if he was sixty six rigid system guy mike tomlin is a pro player he's forty six an african american head coach who is completely relatable to players a tough no nonsense football guy but it's never been antifun anna emotion and passion and he says i don't love celebrations it's not a great look for the record nick andre johnson walter payton jerry rice larry fitzgerald some of my all time favorite players russell wilson they don't celebrate you know who does grunk i don't want to join the grunk club i liked the russell wilson club i think mike tomlin's right all right so listen even the cool young black guy can be wrong the cool young black guys wrong like i here's the thing we do a weird thing where we assign a calm or lack of celebration we assign that character character trait to be a high character guy i mean there's a another guy you mentioned who never celebrated in marvin harrison now i think you could ask maybe the philly da's office about what character they think marvin harrison is you might get different answers but he always handed the ball to the referee i think your quality of player has no correlation to celebration 'antonio brown is the greatest wide receiver under six feet tall in the history of the sport he likes to celebrate dion sanders is the greatest defensive back in the history of the sport he liked to celebrate like i don't i got no problem with it i i'm one of these crazy people that things sports are wing of the entertainment industry because oh yeah they are.
