It's four 32, the future of the Atlanta city jail is back on the front burner after the city in Fulton county reached a deal to house up to 700 county inmates. Roe valley reports the deal still has to be approved by the city council and the county commission. Speaking to the Atlanta city council, mayor Andre Dickens addressed the controversy around the deal to use the city jail to relieve Fulton county jail over crowding. When confronted with hundreds of men sleeping on the floor throughout the hallways, the humanitarian response to that is to do something. Do something immediately. We are not in the jailing business. I do not want you to be in the killing business for long. Tiffany Roberts with the southern center for human rights pushes back on the idea that jail over crowding is a new and urgent issue. What we have been proposing for years was that

"My mom could do that, I believe that if I work hard enough, I can also achieve anything I want. We'll ask question Andre, so you're getting on a plane and you're sitting next to a young entrepreneur who's built the next big thing. They're jazzed about it. They can't wait to show it off to the world. Can't wait to show it off to you right there on the plane. What advice do you give that person? Having gone down this road a bit. I would say two things. Be patient and work hard. Nothing is an overnight success. All of these stories that we see about the amazing companies that were built, like some of those grew very quickly in the early stages. That's real. But it was a lot behind the scenes to get to that point to get to the first phase of building that. So for example, if we, if we look at Facebook, it looks like an overnight success story like Zuckerberg had that idea and built that product and everybody started joining. But actually prior to executing that idea, he actually tested a lot of things before. And most of those ideas failed. But he was there trying building the learning until he got to the point of launching a new thing that took off very quickly. If we look at all of these stories of great companies, I saw a graph recently that about 96% of the value of the most valuable companies in the world are created after year ten. So the reality is, if you want to be very successful, you got to be very patient because if anxiety takes over and you start feeling that things are not moving, as quickly as you wanted, you're probably going to give up. And the reality is that the companies that fail, the startups that fail, they don't fail because the person lacks cash or because of competitors. In most cases, they fail because the founder gives up, you have to be very patient, but at the same time, you have to work a lot because you won't be rewarded if you are not putting the effort. That's fantastic advice. Andre, thank you for being on the show today, and thank you for telling the creation story of incognita. Was a pleasure. And this concludes another chapter of code story.

"You know, but that was actually that was actually short lived because and by 1988, Andre resumes his reign of terror and was now seeking young boys. And they kill count that added another 19 victims to his list. Yeah, it's almost like he was aware that now they were starting to gain. Yeah, so he was trying to change, I guess, his way. So he went from girls to now attacking boys. And he stopped for a while to kind of throw them off, I think. Yeah. Yeah, he did. But he seemed to be increasingly careless. Even killing him public areas, you know? So by November 6th of 1990. He killed his final victim. And due to his suspicious behavior, he was arrested by police and linked to one of his arrests in 1984. All right, so they kept surveillance on this guy. And just a few weeks later by November 20th of 1984 and due to some more suspicious behavior, bukhanovsky, who helped develop the profile, managed to convince Andre to actually speak with him and better understand the working mind of a killer. Yeah, and like most of these killers just seeking some attention, someone to make them feel important. Bukhanovsky is interest. Did just that for Andre. It made Audrey feel wanted. And I think this is something this guy's been wanting for a long time to feel wanted. You know? Yeah. So he did what you would think he did. He opened up. He wanted to great detail about his killings and led police to many undiscovered locations of victims that were unknown. Andrew claimed over 56 victims and 52 were definitively connected to him. That's a heck of a lot of bodies men. You know, and by 1992 he was put on trial after he was after he was declared mentally fit. He was trying to pull that card. Yeah, despite him being declared fit for trial. I mean, I got the impression that he wanted to come off as crazy. And I guess to try to avoid the whole death penalty thing. And he would act crazy in court just blabbering away in a times exposing himself to onlookers. Yeah, we actually did see you. We have a video up there. But mind you, those in attendance were also families and friends of the victims. So it's like adding insult to injury. He even claimed that, due to his impotence, he was sexually frustrated, which led him to committing these atrocious acts. Yeah, and you were saying, you see, we saw that video..

"Holding in. Anyways, so Andre is eventually arrested by police. But he managed to still avoid suspicion because of the whole blood type situation, okay? Mind you the way they got to him is because they launched surveillance around the bus terminals that he was picking up off his victims. Okay, mind you. These are little runaways. They're all hanging out around these areas, and transferring over to different locations. And this guy with that work that previously mentioned, he used his opportunity to do all this traveling and come across his victims like this way. So police obviously, like I said, they mounted up on the surveillance. They finally got close to Andre because of him being really suspicious. And then, of course, nothing's done. You know, he did, however, get sentenced to three months in prison for some minor outstanding offenses. Got away with that one. Yeah. But you see, going back to his profile, police initially believed who they were looking for was someone in their 30s. But something to note here is they did find gray hair at some of the crime scenes. Not to say people in their 30s can't have gray hair. I mean, hell, I got a freaking head that is full of gray hair. I got a few. But it's just something that's not usual to see on somebody in their 30s, really, you know, it's much later on down the road. Yeah. You would expect to see it. Someone maybe they're 40s and so on. But I mean, his profile was revisited because of this. So with the help investigator Victor burakov and Alexander birke, I hope I said that right. The profile was now that of a 45 to 50 year old. And one who was a Negro statist. Okay, so due to what he was doing to the victim's organs, of course..

"So after so many allegations of child molestation, he actually stopped teaching and took a job at a factory in rostov, Russia. This allowed him to travel quite a distance often coming across runaways at bus stops. So in September of 1981, he strangled and gagged layers cache. She was aged 15. No, 17. Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, she was 17, 17. Sorry. He mutilated her using his teeth. What the hell? Yeah. He bit her and even tore off a nipple off of her. She was found the next day. Yeah. I mean, how sad is that? Just think, what the fuck's going through? This guy's mind. He's depraved. He's absolutely the prayer. And you're warped. You're completely fucking warped, but. And mind you. In 1982, another young child fell victim. Aged just 13 years. Lubov, biryuk, who was walking home. Andre follows a girl. He manages to walk with her. And pretty much leads her to be out of sight from all lookers. He manages to lunge at her raping her and stabbing her. When she was later found the medical examiner noted over 22 stab wounds. The murder would be linked to the already growing numbers in the surrounding area. By September of 1982, there were another 5 victims added to his list. Okay? And then by December of 82, and this one's a really hard pill to swallow guys. Just the graphic nature alone that I'm going to describe here. It's just really tough. It's a trigger warning. Big time. See, he murdered another ten year old girl that he met on the bus. He took her to a nearby field where he committed the similar actions previously described to all the other victims that we mentioned already. Okay? But this time there was over 50 stab.

"So by 1978, he finally commits his first murder. All right, now guys, hold on on this one, all right? This is these next few minutes are going to come up. It's just going to be really really hard pill to swallow. He commits his first murder on a 9 year old child. Yelena zakat nova. Okay? A witness provided a description fitting of Andre. Andre, try to have his way with this poor child. But he was met with some resistance. Unfortunately, he did stab her in the stomach. And like his previous encounters with struggling girls, he, of course, ejaculated. It's as if this he associated sex with his victims struggling and he found this to be something erotic. And that's what makes him climax. At least that's what I gather from this, right? The child's blood was found near his home. And her body was dumped in the river. And the child's book bag was found nearby. On the riverbank. And this is all closed by where he lives. Now, like I said, a witness provided a description matching of Andre, but unfortunately, the wrong man was arrested. There was this man named Alexander kravchenko. And previously he was arrested by police for rape and murder of a teenage girl. Okay. So obviously the police are looking at this guy like, hey, you're a suspect. Yeah, you do this before. You're in the area. Interestingly enough, the police went to question this guy and they rushed at him. They did find the blood of the little girl. Okay. On the kravchenko's wife's clothes. So, as they were questioning him, his wife comes up with this alibi. Along with her friends saying, no, he's been with us here this whole afternoon. But the police are not buying this. It's like, hey, your blood is, I mean, this kid's blood is on your clothes. You know? So they pretty much said, hey, listen, you know, we're going to make you an accomplice to murder at this point. Well, obviously now, hey, you threatened somebody with jail time. Story changes now all of a sudden. Now they turn around and say, oh no, well, he will be really wasn't. Guess what? Kevin goes arrested. He's hauled off to prison. Okay? He eventually testifies and admits to committing the murder. But then he later changes his testimony saying that this was all done through extreme duress. Essentially saying that they forced us out of him. They forced him to say it. Which you can buy in those times it was I'm sure. Yeah. It was hard for, I mean, they really just probably wanted to close a case and this guy wasn't easy target. All this news is circulating. So it's putting people in the panic. So they want to keep the touch. Of course. So in mind, things are not like holidays over here in the states. I'm sure their method of handling this is way different. Oh, for sure. So this guy kravchenko, he was eventually despite him changing his testimony, claiming his innocence and all that good stuff. He was later executed by farm squad. So Andre got lucky on this one. Now, there were many others that unfortunately fell victim to under his hands..

"This city in this franchise on the hockey map because of who he is and the way that he plays. Yeah before turn the page. A little bit i mean. Do you have a personal favorite. Marc andre fleury moments or interaction Four years of covering him. Ha ha new idea. But it's not safe for work. So i'm gonna try to tell the story but i have to admit it so the very first year after they swept the kings in the playoffs. There was you know a few days of off time off days. There only a couple of us that were standing around mark grungy flurries locker and we were asking him questions and you know one of the things. I was trying to ask him about and learn about really. Was you know the difference between a regular goalie and a playoff goal and and guys who can kind of flip the switch and turn it on and you know at the time i think i didn't quite fully grass the difficulty that he had times in pittsburgh with sort of the playoff flurry in the criticism that he got there. He you know everything about marc. Andre fleury is so positive. And i asked about that night push them a little bit and he basically in so many words told me to get the bleep out of here and i did and i walked away and then he kinda shot another whatever at me about. You know. it wasn't good enough for you. You know holding the the kings. I think it was two four goals or something like that. In the in the four hundred remember seven goals whatever it was in that series that swept them in the and i just was stunned. Denied just stopped and was just kind of like i come so you know yes. Yeah yeah yeah but he came out in you saw like a completely different side sort of the side. You know we see a little bit. I'll let the saudi oil. You know our contract flurries got very foul mouth. And i love it like. He'll catch himself when he causes. It will apologize. But he's was mad at me and he was really. You know use legitimately angry and probably had a right to be. And i walked out a locker room that day and i felt really bad and i was kinda checking myself a little bit as a reporter in you know how i asked questions in how i approach subject and i was walking out of city. National arena and marc andre. Fleury happening me doing some photo stuff in a different area. And he walked right past me and stock me me right. In the eye of david i apologize. We talked for two minutes. And i apologized to him and told him i push them too hard on that. You know that that subject. And i understand than will always felt like we had a cool relationship and going forward. Maybe that had something to do with it now. Always love hearing him. Slip up in us and john f-bomb bomb or something like that in the locker room and get all sheepish. Shido feel bad about it by that. Just yeah that one story especially. I don't know why it always stuck with me. Just you know maybe it was kind of my welcome the nhl or something like that. But just to see kind of a different side of marc andre. Fleury you know a little of that competitive side in you know little of that. Will that that foul mouth has certainly as we do this podcast than i do. Radio stuff i have a bad now. I have to catch myself all the time. So i can certainly appreciate that about mark andre flooring that's just one rambling long story that i'll actually never forget. Yeah no yeah. That stirs perfect. I own a quick yet. Tell coupled for von here one. When you're i was trying to wrack my brain because you pops another story into my head. And i was at a road game once. I think he was one of the nearby ones. La or san jose anaheim. I wish i could remember. I don't And you know there's a couple reporters that were just talking to flurry after we wrapped up like his post availability whatever Someone had mentioned like. Hey weren't there like a lot of nights fan. Wasn't that cool influence that. Oh yeah. yeah and then. He asked the reporters that were there like. Hey please videotaped me like saying. Hey thanks for all your support fans. He wanted to get it out there. Any like stopped reported. Like k- know. Turn your cameras back on to make sure that i get this out there. Which is crazy by all time favourite. Marc andre fleury story is at one time i was in summerlin at a friend's birthday brunch and of course you know we were being very over the top You know obnoxious table. I think by friend had some silly hat on to indicate that it was his birthday. And we'd sung happy birthday for him so we just took everyone's attention in this nights brunch and right before we did that you know. I just notice out of the corner of my eye. Marc andre fleury and his family kind of you know just walked in sat down at a table and obviously had to be you know forced to listen to all of our lovely singing voices and i don't think he actually notice me or sauve that i was there but a little bit later after finishing happy birthday all of a sudden our waitress brings some drake's over to the table in mentioned like hey like these drinks have been purchased by someone the restaurant happy birthday and obviously we're perplexed like kind of confused like who would have done this and we can oppress the way channel bitch like book like whoever you know bought. These doesn't wanna say doesn't want it known that like goes in does this or whatever and so obviously is pretty easy connected dots Mark under clery bought my friend birthday drinks just because he happened to walk into the restaurant. We are at and saw that it was his birthday and decided to do like a super nice thing for him despite not knowing him at all or whatever. That's just what marc andre fleury..

"I guess that At this point More importantly than anything. I've said so far. I'd like to thank mark on briefly for his time in vegas it's Incredible the moments that We shared with him as part of our organization. He was the most Audra player i've ever seen in sports. He was the face of the franchise when you think back to how it all began the story book for season the You know the You'll the passion that he has for the game as As both a team made a wireless connected to the fan base. I wanna recognize His great accomplishments. Thank him for his time For his time here he's out in a tremendous impact on our organization. He's a tremendous impact on our cities. What is a pocket fans. This is the golden edge. Podcast the podcast. Where the las vegas review journal talks about hockey and some special players who play it because obviously this is going to be an episode. Devoted basically entirely to one marc andre. Fleury i am ben goats. Your gold nights beat writers for the las vegas reviews on joining me on the other. Line is my colleague. Dave shane. Dave how is this. Lovely july tuesday treating you while i was hoping to get this week. You know maybe a little quiet then slink off to my vacation and you know just kinda see what happens from there but not with this team now kelly criminal george mcphee in charge no way so as always gotta be something for us. Gone on exactly. They are a lot of things but never boring in that includes on. Today's massive news of they have traded. Marc andre fleury to the chicago blackhawks. There is so much to dissect with this kind of bombshell of news out of the drop dinner laps. This guy tuesday morning. We're obviously going over the implications of for the nights why they decided to do what how they ended up doing it. And what it means for the future were based gonna spend this entire episode going over that we will probably be back with you guys later this week recapping what. The nights did in a free agency but we felt the marc. Andre fleury was obviously based in his outside impact on the organization and the city of las vegas worth than episode basically unto himself. So before we dive in. I want to remind you guys that the podcast is sponsored by one hour heating and air conditioning. But we are also presented by blue wire hustle. Also you guys get Subscribe whatever you buy gas due to this one. The really really be appreciated helps people find us a and of course if you guys could check out all are written work at review journal dot com that would be much appreciated or even the print section because no spoilers but i think tomorrow's print section of the review journal is going to be a doozy and one that you guys are going to want to hold onto it so many people covering so many different angles of this story. All be there in one neat little paper sized package really recommend you guys. Pick that up hull right. So as i mentioned off the top of this morning news broke that. Marc andre fleury. The face of the knights franchise the vezina trophy winner. And of course a almost certain hall of famer was traded to chicago. The return was a minor league forward. Mikhail hacker rain and who is actually going to remain in chicago organization Nightstands fans remember a similar kind of arrangement happened when a defenseman knicks de simone was technically traded to the nights in the mataya danmark deal at the deadline but actually stayed with the sharks organization. It's basically similar up so essentially. The nights treated the best player in team history. So far and his seven million dollar cap hit this coming season for essentially no return Before we get into the bus particulars and boy are regan. Get into some particulars of this trade. Dave just win. This news dropped in you i saw. What was your initial reaction in response to the news that marc andre fleury is no longer going to be a golden night. I mean i think we heard somewhere spurs if you follow the right people on twitter and things like that there were some rumblings elliott freeman from sports that hey kind of floated that something fell apart at the draft with a goal and he didn't really say it by name but he kind of enhancing in some other folks have been hinting. That chicago had shown some interest in marc andre. Fleury and i think we can say now. Because i don't think it's going to happen. But apparently like new jersey had shown some interest in robin lehner and maybe new jersey showed some interest in our contract forty as well. It seemed like kalama criminal alluded to a second team as well that you know kinda come in at the end. It may be wanted to do something as well. Also in that regard. I think you know it wasn't like totally caught off guard and yet i say all that and you're just never ready for it like you see it. Come across you see the nights in makes phone calls and talk some to some people in you know. They put their release out. And it's just like really. It really really happened like you know. I mean you're kind of preparing for your preparing for it and then it happens and it's still just feels you know like it came out of left field in and you just never saw common. The as is one of those things where in we've obviously mentioned on the show several times. The possibility that nights could move a goaltender this off season. We talked about it all the time last off season when there were i would say even more rampant rumors that marc andre fleury was on the trading block potentially on the move but until you know they actually pull the trigger on it until as use of kind of like the tweet comes out from the night saying. Yep it's official. we have traded. Marc andre. Fleury as you said it just kinda hits you almost like a bus brick to everyone. Say it's just something that takes awhile to really impact and realize that the organization you know for better for worse there obviously hoping for better is never going to be the same dave. We'll see you know. He certainly had his impact on the city. I think on clarity some fans and all that you.

"Andres, you've got health care is one of the expenses that can go up for many people, you know? Medicare when Medicare kicks in at age 65 that actually can help bring down the cost of their of their medical insurance. But you know, expensive surgeries, you know, for me replacements, things like that, depending on the insurance that you have the Medigap or The additional insurance that you have medical over Medicare. Those may or may not covered us and then also, what can happen is if you need long term care that cost can be just really outrageous and so medical is one that comes to mind and then travel for a lot of people. So a lot of people wait till retirement until they start doing their heavy travel. So a lot of people go, you know, do some world traveling, and that can be quite expensive these days. So that's when they will go up, You know, obviously hobbies. So if you haven't been playing golf every day and you start playing golf every day, that can be pretty expensive. So, um, all those hobbies out there that obviously costs money that you're doing more of that as well. Those will increase Another thing is things that you're giving. So gifting, I would say so often times people will provide for education for the green kids. Things like that measure savings are or expenses that come up that they often will help out with. But beyond that those are some of the major things that will typically go up once you're retired. Remember, we're talking with Josh Strittmatter today in regards to estimating retirement expenses. People came just to see him because he was so large however almost anyone they paired him with was utterly unconvincing. Even the biggest wrestlers. Look tiny next. Andre eventually in montreal crowd stop coming because andre was no longer a novelty that was when andre an extensive travel schedule at the time professional wrestling was a regional business promotion might only work in a few states and their television shows only pure and in a few markets. As there wasn't an internet most people were clueless as to what was happening around the country. And certainly not in other countries. When andre came to town he would always sell it. Arenas andre was a special event as a result. He almost never lost. And he almost never won any championships. He didn't need to win a championship because he was popular and could sell tickets without one. It was living on the road and traveling between towns. That the legend of andre the giant was born. It's hard to express on a podcast. Just how big andre was. Andre was seven four seven five.

And it'd be another big part. Is that. I sit on a Executive committee for francophone music in alberta guest and Unfortunately it was. It was with a past government. I don't know if you've heard down there. But we have a new elected government. Yes which is more. Like the obama administration. It's a lot more Democratic yes are are equivalent of the republican party was in control for a long time. Yes and. I'm not trying to speak ill of anybody but but having is we lost a lot of our funding Just through cuts and will start become real hard for us to be producing music. Like we had been yeah. It was hard for us to get kids involved in francophone music and this new government. There is a little more hope kind of shows up with that which is really big for us to yeah. My my sister was a huge in the band when she was in high school. I sang in the chorus and I believe in. I believe in sports and w wrong. That's what my son loved. And he was active in every sports. But i believe that the liberal arts and the art and music and in in all these other kinds of curricular activities help someone be of better rounded person and it is I remember when my son went to University or as we call it college and Even though it's stephen f. austin university you just tend to call at college and you know he said the guy talking about said. Why if you're gonna major in business do we make you take a foreign language. Why do we make you take electives because we want you to be a learned individual. We want you to be a well rounded representative of our university. And i think that's a great work and absolutely wonderful.

After the water theory fight Andre ward came out in a Cessna things that a lot of people have problems with. I'm doing note that barbershop conversations had a interview with war where he kind of kind of dress everything that was being said, so well, let's go ahead in a in a in a get to the tweet the tweet that war put up. I do apologize about to get tomorrow the computer, but I have the tweet on the on the main mainstream I under- award. Now. This was December second day at the the way out of very draw. Wards don't think a rematch whatever happen. Wow. There probably won't want to go through that again. We'll take the draw and move on very doesn't really have to what s commission point. So with that. I'm a I'm a break down even a draw where they win for him last night the way he performed three jobs at Wembley in the summer. Sports. Senate Twitter run it back, but war respond to two sports going to what that tweet. Now. This is there. He says he doesn't make a rematch happened. I no problem cool with it. This your opinion while they're probably one wants to go through that again damn that right there as I will problem and were a lot of people had a problem with it's not about a China. Let me get to that. I'm a big Andre war fan. I think under award was incredible fighter had a great career one. That's six because they'll twice moved up from one sixty eight where he unified the division move up to one seventy five where unified again ward that first ballot hall of Famer, and he will go down as one of the very best quarterbacks. But with that being said, nobody's is from from criticism. So wow, do probably want want to go through that again. Right there. You're you're you're judge a man's won't to a man desire in a man's heart. Mo- maybe not so much as what maybe maybe maybe his are real because you're saying that he doesn't want to go through that again. Meaning he doesn't wanna go through that kind of fight again. Meaning that fury style may be a little bit too much for wilder. Meaning that the way for you bucks. Water doesn't have a answer for that. Now, he goes onto say will take the draw and move on like a champion can't accept a drawl or champion can't accept attire or championship. Everybody saying that a man we thank you ought to or a man a ferry outclass you or any of that a real champion here. Here's these kind of things most to run it back the embezzle xactly what? Wow. The wants to do. And then he goes on to say and really real quick Andre war. People could have said the same thing about you. When you faced Sergei Kovalev after the first light therm say cover there. Some say it could have been a draw some say, you warm, but just by a hair, and I personally I agree with the decision. I think you've got up the campus and did enough to to come back and win that fight. But with them being saying people reporters all came out and said, I don't think war would take them a a rematch. I don't think board we're running back. I know I know you story because you came out at the press covers, and you said, I ready went around with his man already went to around with the man. I think the biggest thing that they have to do to beat the patriots is they need to play clean mistake free football. It takes a full two weeks of preparation to get ready for that game. Number one. You have to be prepared for the unexpected. If to know the rules of the game, but the biggest thing for me looking at this game is it comes down to coaching and I talked about. Halftime at halftime. Usually come in. It's about fifteen minutes during a regular season game or a playoff game. Put the Super Bowl. It feels like you're in there for like an hour.
