"Brothers and sisters, if you follow up on this first sermon, you'll be diligent in prayer, praying for laborers, praying that God would bring us new preachers, thanking the Lord for the pastor you have of this church, missionaries of your churches. It's easy to rise up from those prayers and say, I've done my duty. I prayed for the mission of the church. But the Lord Jesus Christ calls you to be His witness. The Lord calls you because you are each prophets. Christ, who is prophet, priest and King in Christ, you are prophets to speak the word of God. You're not ordained pastors, but you are Christ's witnesses to speak His truth in this world. And so the text which we had before is particularly verses five and six. There's a text on personal evangelism, how to be a witness in this world. A text on personal evangelism, which personally I find is often neglected in literature about personal evangelism. But this is a text which is addressed to each and every one of us, each and every one of us, not ordained as an evangelist or teacher, but every one of us as a child of God. Walk in wisdom, walk in wisdom towards those who are outside, redeeming the time that your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. The verse divides into two teachings. First one is your walk. The second one is your talk. Your walk and your talk of personal evangelism. Verse five talks about your walk, the way you should live before unbelievers. And verse six is your talk, how you need to speak or even answer unbelievers. So consider both of these aspects. First of all, your walk of personal evangelism and then your talk. The text says, walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, those who are outside, that is those who are unbelievers, those who are not Christians, those who are still lost in their sins, those who are in fact enemies of God, those who have not yet believed the gospel of grace, sola gracia, that we are saved by God's grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Before them, you need to walk in wisdom. Walk in wisdom. Wisdom meaning means to live according to God's will, doing what is right, avoiding what is wrong, being wise and not foolish if we remember the words of the Proverbs, being like lady wisdom and not like damn folly and her sinfulness. If you're looking for what wisdom looks like, you can just go back to chapter three, a whole chapter about the Christian character in our life, personally, within our families and even at work. This is the wise life that you need to live before the world. It's a life that is Christ-like, that people can see in you, through you, something of Christ himself, a life that has been radically changed by the gospel, radically changed by the gospel of sin. As we read in the Belgian confession, we are no different than others. We're all born sinners. But if we are different, it's because of God's grace in our lives. We need to live as those who are at peace with God. No more condemnation, Romans chapter five verse one. We are justified in Christ Jesus. We are at peace with God. God is at peace with us. And so we worship him and pray to him. We need to live as those who have knowledge of God's will and growing in obedience to God's will, being sanctified day by day. This is the way you need to live before those who are outside, those who are unbelievers. Why? We'll listen to these words from the commentator, William Hendrickson, always bearing in mind that though few men read the scriptures, all men read you. People you meet, very few will have read the Bible or very much of the Bible, but they're reading you. They know you're a child of God, that you go to church. They're observing. So how is a Christian different? And their understanding of the Bible the first way will be dependent upon you and your Christian life. You need to be those then who are changed by the grace of God. You need to be like the church of Thessaloniki. If you read first Thessalonians chapter one, apostle Paul praises the church, gives thanks to God for the church because the gospel has changed their lives. They have left the other gods of this world to be attached to the one true living God. And then Paul says that the message of the gospel is ringing throughout Acadia, if we come to the Heidelberg Catechism. Sorry, I forgot to have us read that. Reverend Persaud said that you're used to having mistakes and changing order. So if you got to look at your Trinity Psalter hymnal Heidelberg Catechism question answer 86, 887. We can still recite that together. Question answer 86, the page 887, Heidelberg Catechism. Sometimes we say these old catechisms and Reformed confessions, they had no concern for missions and evangelism. Well, they don't have as much concern as we do. We've been blessed by the missionary century, the 19th century, but still listen to this text and particularly the last phrase, which summarizes our key missionary witness. Brothers and sisters, the question 86, since we have been delivered from our misery by grace through Christ without any merit of our own, why then should we do good works together? Because Christ redeemed us by his blood is also renewing us by his spirit into his image so that what the whole lies, we may show that we are thankful to God for his benefits and that he may be praised through us and further so that we may assured of our faith by its fruits and by our godly living, our neighbors may be won over to Christ. By our godly living, our good works, our neighbors may be won over to Christ. There's obviously an illusion here to the great words of Jesus in Matthew 5 16, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven. Let your work shine before men, not to glorify you, but to say this is what God and grace has done through me and that they might see something of God's grace in and through you. Good works, you might think of helping the old lady across the street as we often say, giving richly to some charitable work, spending extra volunteer hours, many good works that we can do. Sometimes our good works are much more simple. It's a couple years ago, I walked down the street, lady ahead of me was walking kind of slowly, so I just kind of walked past her. As I walked past her, I said, hello, bonjour. She stopped me and she asked me, are you a Christian? I said, yeah. And she said, that's why you said hello to me. Wow. A few months later, I was on a bus. Sitting on the bus and started talking to the gentleman beside us. Probably most of you in the city, you've taken the bus and you know how no one talks to no one. Started talking to the gentleman beside me. And after 10, 15 minutes, he asked me what I did. I mentioned I was a pastor of a church. And then he said, well, that's why you talk to me. You're a Christian. The good work starts with a small hello and taking an interest in those around us. These are the good works that shine the light of Jesus Christ. We need to be zealous in doing this, brothers and sisters, because the reputation of the church is very poor. I live in the province of Quebec. Anyone who knows anything about Quebec, most Quebecers are Roman Catholic in name. The vast majority never go to the Catholic Church. They have nothing to do with the church. When they speak of the church, they think of the church and heard the stories written in the news, sexual abuse, physical abuse, power abuse, authority abuse. It's not just the Roman Catholic Church which is abusive. I've lived in Quebec City for 24 years, and those who have made the headlines have been pastors of evangelical churches. A pastor who was accused of sexual misconduct with a minor, accused and found guilty of tax evasion, refused to plead guilty, accused, found guilty, but before he could be sentenced, fled the country. Headline news in the newspaper, evangelical pastor. This is the perception of non-believers of what the church and Christians are like, abusive, guilty. So we need to let our light shine by the way we walk before unbelievers, living wisely. It's one of the reasons my wife and I stay in Quebec City. There's many reasons to leave this mission field, but by God's grace, we'd like to continue. Not because we're more holy or more perfect than anyone else, but we have prayer. Our prayer is that through our faith, through our hope, through our love, through our forgiveness, through our perseverance and patience with ourselves, with others, something of God's truth may shine towards other people and that God would save them. Lord willing, I'll say another 20 years. I'm looking forward to seeing who the Lord might draw to himself, even through my own testimony. Testimony may not be a bright light. We're well aware that Christians in this world, particularly those who are truly in the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are a smaller and smaller group, right? Very small. And sometimes when we read this text of Jesus saying, you are the light of the world, let your light shine, we think of a big bright light. I in Quebec encourage believers to think of themselves as nightlights. You know what the nightlight is? You put it in the bathroom or in the hallway. And during the day when the sun is shining or the lights are on in the house, no one sees the nightlight. But when it gets dark and the lights are turned off, that little nightlight is so bright. It shines so far and it guides us as we walk through the night. We are and we will become, I believe, nightlights in this world. Very small, insignificant. But because the world around us is becoming darker, we will shine. And people will be guided by our little light to the truth of the gospel. Brothers and sisters, let your light nightlight shine before the world, that they may see your good works and give glory to God who has maintained that little nightlight. Walk in wisdom towards those who are outside, redeeming the time, because your Christian walk will create a missionary opportunity to talk. This is the second thing we need to retain from this text, verse six. That once you have walked, you will begin to talk. Verse six, it says, let your speech always be filled with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. As what's implied in the text is that people will be asking you questions, because you will need to know how to answer each one. The parallel text in 1 Peter 3 15 says, always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks to give the reason for the hope that you have. Always be prepared to give an answer. An answer to questions. To questions that outsiders, non-believers, are going to ask you. When someone who is not a believer looks at you and says, you're different. Or, how come you go to church? Why do you go to church Sunday afternoon and spend two services? That's weird in our world, but it's your first testimony. So glad to see many young people here. In province of Quebec, there's very, very few young people who believe in Jesus Christ. In the Catholic context, there's almost none who go to church anymore, to the mass. So I encourage young people in our churches, when you're at university and college, and someone asks you, what did you do on the weekend? Don't forget to say that after I watched Netflix on Saturday night, and yes, I got my homework done, Sunday, I went to church. In the province of Quebec, for young people, if you've gone to church, they'll probably look at you and say, where? And then they'll probably ask you, did your grandmother die? Because one of the only reasons young people go to church in the province of Quebec is because grandmother died and there was a funeral. So we had to go to church for the funeral. There's no more weddings. Very few go on Christmas or Easter. But here's your testimony. I went to church on Sunday. And most people will say, well, that's bizarre. But every once in a while, someone's intrigued. He says, oh, yeah? What's that like? Come and see. They'll be asking you questions. What have you done with your marriage? Why are you married? How come you're still married? Why does your marriage seem to be more happy? It's not necessarily more happy, but why do you still stay together when so many marriages fall apart? Why do you listen to your parents? Sometimes people will ask you questions. Sometimes they'll just make statements about you. Your children are well behaved. You're such a happy person. You're not always complaining. I admire the way you work hard, even if the boss isn't there or the teacher has stepped out of the classroom, you still keep working. You just displayed real sportsmanship. The ref made a bad call, but you didn't complain. I admire that. I admire the way you take interest in other people. You ask how they're doing. You listen to them. These brothers and sisters are the kind of comments or questions that people make and that you need to lay hold of, redeem the time, buy it up, look for something to say of the gospel. These are the questions or comments that they will make and the scriptures are saying be prepared to give an answer. Now this may raise questions for some of you. For some of us it calls for self-examination, particularly if you're here and you're saying, well, no one makes those kinds of comments about me. No one asks me these types of questions. And you need honestly before God saying, are you not giving them any reason? Don't they see the difference? You may also be asking yourself, well, how do I answer these questions? How do I take hold of these comments to say something of the gospel? I encourage you to take time to think about the answers you might give. What can you say? What scripture truth can you share with them? It's good to have memorized a few scripture texts. Glad your congregation memorizes a few texts in this world of struggle, that you live by hope, persevering, knowing God is building your character. What a great truth to share with those in this world who are suffering. You need to have a basic understanding of the gospel. Basic understanding of the gospel. Use Bible tracks, use evangelism tracks, evangelism training. Learn the basics of the gospel. That God is sovereign, that God is gracious, and that God is calling you to salvation. Be ready to share one or two elements of it. I often encourage people to have both ready a short and a long answer. We are good at the long answer because we like talking, but most people don't have time to listen to that much. It's better to have a short answer. Something you can say of a long answer is, whether my boss is there or the teacher is there, it doesn't matter. I still live before God. How do I live my life? I live by the wisdom that God gives me in the Bible. It's so full of wisdom. It teaches me how to live my marriage, my family, my work. To come back into our text, we have two instructions about the way we should talk. First of all, the manner of speaking. Let your speech always be with grace. Seasoned with salt. Filled with grace. Always filled with grace. Because we receive grace, we want to communicate grace. We don't need to communicate judgment. The LGB community knows that we judge them already. They're condemned. We don't need to communicate that. We do need to communicate God's grace for them. We need to be those who speak with grace, full of grace as recipients of grace. First Peter 3 says we need to be those who speak with gentleness and respect. And then there's this delightful metaphor Paul uses. He says seasoned with salt. Why do we use salt? Well, back in the days before the refrigerator, salt was there to preserve food so it didn't spoil. We need to preserve the truth. We don't compromise the truth. We have to speak the truth even if it hurts and people are going to reject it. Seasoned with salt, preserve the truth. But salt, as you well know, adds flavor. We need to add salt because, well, the soup just doesn't taste that good. A little salt makes it taste better. Watermelon apparently tastes better with a bit of salt on it. It adds flavor. And so when we speak the gospel, we need to be those who speak with flavor, wincently. It's the good news. Make sure that it sounds good. Or as Paul says in Ephesians, speak the truth in love. There's a second instruction about the hearers, those who will listen to us. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Answer each one. Answer each person. That is, we need to have a knowledge of the person we're speaking to. We need to take an interest of the person that we're speaking to, asking questions about them, knowing who they are, what their life's concerns are, what their life's goals are, what things they're wrestling with. We should prepare our answers for these people because most often the people who will ask us questions are people that we know. It's pretty rare that a stranger on the sidewalk will ask me or make a comment, but it's more common that a neighbor, coworker, a friend who's not a believer, they'll ask me questions. And so you can spend time already preparing your answer. What would speak to this friend in his life? What gospel truth could speak to him? One of my friends, his name is Andre. Andre, his wife left him several years ago for another woman. I reached out to him and just got together with him. We both like watching movies so that's great. We go out for walks, we chat. Andre is always discouraged, pessimistic, things are getting worse in the world. Recently when we had lunch together, we were talking, walking together, and yeah, the world is getting worse, right? I could agree. That's why I believe the gospel of Jesus, in case he's coming to make a new world. I'd like to tell you that Andre was like, wow, yeah, tell me more. No, Andre didn't say anything. He's hardened to the gospel, but God had opened the door for me to share one truth of the gospel of hope for which I pray that he will indeed believe. We need to know how to answer, friends, but ultimately we need to know how to answer sinners, that every sinner needs a savior. From this text then we understand that we as Christians are not only those who walk or talk, we must also be ready to talk about our walk. We walk or talk, we put into practice what we believe, but then we need to be ready to talk about it, explain it to others. Maybe a couple of practical considerations and I'm not always sure this applies to you in your church context. Many times one of the encouragements I give to churches is just to think about their relationships. I often preach in churches, large churches, and everyone knows the Christians, their friends are Christians, schoolmates are Christians, the mechanic is a Christian, the lumber heart and lumber store worker is a Christian. I'm not sure if that's your context, but sometimes when we live in this Christian ghetto, we need to say I need to spend time with non-Christians to get out there and spend time with them, get to know them. So if it's your context that your work just brings you in contact with Christians all week long, I encourage you to find time, ways of spending time with non-Christians, getting involved in a local club, reading club, hockey, soccer, poetry reading. In Quebec it's pétanque, if you're interested I'll let you know. But get involved with Christians or Christians or even your neighbors, looking for opportunities to get to know them. But maybe the bigger challenge for us, particularly when we live in big cities, is just it's hard living as a Christian and letting our light shine. It's hard saying hello to the stranger we meet because we just meet so many strangers. It's hard talking to the co-workers because it's been years that they know we're believers and they're not. So we need to pray God to give us renewing grace, that resolve to continue to live our testimony to do good, persistence in doing good, persistence in prayer, and persistence looking for the opportunity to speak a word of God's grace. Sometimes we're not too comfortable speaking the truth. I know growing up I would never have known how to share my faith and I still struggle and still learning. Christian faith is something private and personal. We need to have that boldness to speak. We need to have the encouragement that comes from the word of God. That God's word, when it goes forth, will not return to Him void. That is a wonderful promise. God's word will not return to Him void. And so we share the word, we sow the seed. We also have a wonderful heritage of Reformed theology that we must not keep just for ourselves but share. Is there anything more beautiful than Heidelberg Catechism 1, question answer 1, that I belong body and soul, life and death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. We live in a world of solitude. People are alone. They belong to no one. They think it's good. But when they're in their apartments and they're alone, that loneliness eats away at them. But whether we're alone or we're with friends or family, we always belong to Jesus Christ. Is there any better comfort? What a wonderful testimony you can share with a non-believer. You need simply to immerse yourself in scriptures, learn a few key Bible texts that you can share with others. Remember God's exhortation as we read earlier, Acts chapter 8, verse 4, as you go preach the gospel, you are His witnesses in this world. We also need to be warned by Christ and His words as we read in Matthew 10, verse 33, that whoever disowns me before men, I will also disown him before my Father in heaven. We must not disown Christ by refusing to speak. We must not disown Him, afraid that we'll be mocked or laughed at or no one will want to talk to me afterwards. They won't be my friends. You're right. They will mock you. They will avoid you. Rico Tice has a great book on honest evangelism, and it's honest because he says it's not easy to evangelize. And most people will refuse you, laugh at you, turn away from you. But he encourages us to take the risk, to ask the questions, to share the gospel. Because not only are we warned by Christ, but we are also encouraged by Him, by His promise. Again, Matthew 10, 32, whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. Is there anything more glorious than for Christ to say, I know Arthur or Chris or Emily? He's your child, Father. Is there anything more wonderful than to be acknowledged by Christ before His Heavenly Father? Christ encourages us because He Himself has been persecuted, suffered, He was crucified because He rejected His truth, but God raised Him up. And so He says to us today, I and the Father love you. I and the Father love you. So let's not give into excuse-making. I'm not sure what to say or how to do it. Well, surely that this friend will never believe and there's never a chance that he can join our church. God can do incredible things. You're simply called to give an answer for the hope that you have. And ultimately, you give witness not so much because the other person might believe and be saved. You give witness in order to give glory to God. Let your good work shine before God, that they may see and give glory to God. Speak the truth of the gospel and the people will give glory to God when He appears because of the wisdom of His truth. Brothers and sisters, this text, this exhortation to evangelism, personal evangelism, comes in the context of prayer. Verse two, continue earnestly in prayer. If there's any one thing we learn when we're active in evangelism is how much we need to pray. Oh, that we need to pray. Pray that God would convert heart and hearts, but pray also for us. Pray for our Christian walk, for our testimony, which is definitely not at the height of Christ's holiness. Pray for forgiveness. Pray for the renewed work of the Spirit. Pray that indeed we would walk as Christ would have us walk. So indeed give glory to God and our light shining. But also praying for the words that we need to speak, that He would loosen our tongues, give us confidence to speak, to speak the truth in love. For it is not you who will be speaking, says Jesus, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. The Spirit of the Father speaking through you. Continue in prayer. Brothers and sisters, remember, even our prayers are weak. But we have a Savior who intercedes without ceasing before the throne of God. And His prayer, as we learned in John chapter 17, He prays, yes, for the ministers of the Word, those who preach the Gospel, but He also prays for each of us, each of us who believe the Gospel, so that through our Christian life we might also proclaim the Gospel and Word indeed. And Christ's prayers are answered by our Heavenly Father. So devote yourselves to prayer. Pray for ministers, preachers of the Gospel, and then commit yourselves to walk and talk the Gospel of grace. Amen. Let us pray. Father mighty God, we give you praise and thanks again for your grace to us. Why did you save us? Why did you love us? Why was your love placed upon us even before the creation of the world? Why have you called us, Lord? There's nothing that we have earned. It is all of your grace. And Father, if there's some here who have not yet embraced the Gospel of grace, or some here who are struggling with doubts, with sins, with rebellion, with wandering, we pray, Almighty God, for your work of grace in their lives, that you draw them to yourselves. Faith is your gift. Grant faith to each of us, we pray. Renewed faith, strengthened faith. Faith that is active in love and good deeds. Father, give us faith and renewed faith so that we would indeed live as children of God, walking the talk, walking before unbelievers. May they see in us and through us the grace of God, the wisdom of God, the love of God. And Father, we pray that through our Christian walk and faith, that they would ask questions, that they would make comments, that they would observe and be curious to know more. Father, loosen our tongues. We often don't know what to say. We're shy, nervous. Give us words to speak, the words of your spirit, the words of your scriptures. Help us to speak a word of truth, Almighty God. And even if it's said awkwardly, we pray, Father, that you'd use those awkward words to touch hardened hearts. Father, I pray that through the testimony of this church, through the testimony of each brother and sister here, that you would draw many into the fold of God, into the family of God. Lord, make us bold witnesses, we pray, so that others may be saved and that you would receive all the glory and praise. Amen.

"Is 5 21 on Wall Street we checked the markets for you all day long here at Bloomberg and we have shares of FedEx absolutely skyrocketing. They are up about 12% right now. FedEx posting earnings a top Wall Street estimates, and it's also raising its annual forecast as cost cutting plans begin to kick in and that help make up for a decline in package volume. Meantime first republic getting a total of $30 billion in uninsured deposits from the nation's biggest bank in a rescue package, and this is including uninsured deposits from Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and others. We do have this somewhat sobering headline though just out from the fed the fed discount window borrowing will that soared to an all time high bank spiral to combined almost 165 $1 billion from two Federal Reserve backstop facilities in the most recent week that ended yesterday. And this guy's includes about a $152 billion in borrowing from the discount window that's the traditional liquidity backstop as well for banks in the weekend yesterday. That is a record high a $152 billion there the prior all time high was just a 111 billion during the 2008 financial crisis. The fed, of course, holding its next FOMC meeting next week. Stock surging on that bank rescue news and the Dow up 372 points at the close up 1.2%. The S&P 500 up 68.71 .8% the NASDAQ, up 283 of almost two and a half percent the yield on the ten year ticking higher today 3.5, let's say 5.8% right now. And also we have a spot gold which is pretty much flat just a slightly higher right now. And nymex could it is up more than 1% right now after several down days in a row nymex could still below 70 bucks a barrel though 68 35 a barrel right now. And that is a Bloomberg business flash. All right, Denise, thank you so much. Carol master along with Mike Regan live in our Bloomberg interactive broker studio on the Bloomberg today is a story about how Silicon Valley bank helped close the funding gap for women in minority founders. Are Kelsey butler reporting it out. SVB, which had relationships with more than 50% of all venture backed companies in the U.S., built a reputation for working with businesses owned by female black and LatinX professionals often when other banks would not. So we want to dig a little bit deeper into this. With us as Kathy park, she's partner at the San Francisco based venture capital firm, Andrew capital. They have invested in the likes of Palantir SoFi Stripe.. I can't read my notes. Grub market and more. It's been a long day, sorry. Kraken is what I wanted to say. I just couldn't get it out. She's here in our Bloomberg interactive broker studio. She is based in New York Cathy. Great to have you here. It has been a little bit Fast & Furious on this Thursday. First of all, how are you and how are you reading the tea leaves and some of the headlines when it comes to what happened with Silicon Valley bank? Concerns about venture and money for startups because of that collapse. And then just the bigger broader banking situation, kind of the nervousness that's out there. Sure. Sure. And thanks for having me on. So I would say that it's crazy to think about the fact that this whole SVB situation has literally just been a week. And so in the very beginning, I think there was a lot of panic and a lot of concern. It's a fairly small circle. So just a little bit of context around Andre, Andre is a growth and late stage equity fund. We focus on Silicon Valley pre IPO technology companies. And we were originally founded with the mission of democratizing access to these types of pre IPO companies. And so for us, Silicon Valley bank is just a household name. In the valley, funds, as you pointed out, Carol funds, 50% of startups. And so there's a lot of panic because people have both deposits, people take out mortgages from them, and it impacted individuals on multiple levels. And so when the run of the bank happened initially, I think there was a lot of concern and a lot of the first question we asked is how much exposure do we have to SVB? And then the secondary question is how much do our portfolio companies have exposure to SVP? How much did you guys have? The good news is zero directly. And we only had a couple of companies that had exposure, but nothing where we were concerned because they had loans. And so we did have one company that had fairly large cash balances there. But the good news is, by Sunday, I think between chairman secretary Yellen and the FDIC, they had already come in, put the markets to rest, basically contained the contagion, if you will. Yeah. And that gave us a lot of we were able to finally basically take a sigh of relief by Monday because we knew that people would then be able to access not only the 250 million 250 K of deposits, but the full amount. And so that was good. We'd also been able to connect with the companies and just confirm that they were in okay shape. So that's so that was the near term. Right now, what we're seeing is, while it is concerning, I think people, at least feel like there are some breaks on, we know that the government may be having learned from the great financial crisis before. Understands what the rule book looks like, even down to having the equivalent of kelp, but having these funds available. So that they will buy securities back at par, including treasuries and things like that So that's great. Now, what does this mean though? After this near term panic. And so just to turn this towards a lot of the women in minority startups. So who struggled to begin with? You guys have made Andre have been on a mission. But you do wonder, right, so this is our concern. It was already hard enough for women and people of color to tap into the system. They're not part of this club. In Silicon Valley. And there was increasing focus. Now, the concern that we have is if banks and lenders become even more conservative, they're going to just continue the path that they went on before, but even more so, right? So what we worry about is that some of the these ventures that maybe don't look and don't quite fit into the mold of what you think a traditional venture founder looks like. Or business models that might serve communities that maybe are not the mainstream in America. Those are the companies that we think are going to struggle a little bit more to get funding. And so if anything, it's very important. I'm so glad we're talking about this today because it is important for people to instead of just pulling back to really think about maybe we should lean in more and really focus on this and make sure that we're not going to go backwards. Yes, you're making some progress. Yes, in the last few years. And so I think that's kind of what we're trying to focus on. Well, Kathy, I mean, the good news obviously is that those deposits are safe now. But even before that acute bank run on Silicon Valley bank, there was sort of a slow drawdown of the cash in these accounts that startups were burning through cash. And the assumption was that, okay, maybe you got that first round of investments stuck around. That was starting to dry up. And I wonder if that's accelerating the problem, obviously I would assume this failure is accelerating that problem. But what's sort of the climate there is there, especially for someone who invests late stage. But is there this major risk of just the purse strings being completely tightened among VC firms right now? Especially if the IPO market too isn't there for an exit. Yeah, so here's the concern. So just keep in mind, in the VC space, there is a statistic. I think they have roughly a close to 600 billion of dry powder that they've raised. And so there's a lot of, there's a lot of capital available to find very early stage companies. And you're absolutely right, Mike. So now we're

"By was a completely different story. He never kicked me once. I picked him a couple of times. Took him down and ended up finishing him in the third round. Even go the distance. So it really was a turning point for me technically. I learned a lot facing that adversity facing that. I fight aphid. Sign that contract and fight again right away Was was a big big end. That bite with josh barnett. You mentioned that was a big turning point for me to like. I said i'd been working a lot on my grappling and being on my back and doing all this stuff and the heat of that flight in early on we got into a scramble. And i pulled guard and josh were add on oppa me. I went back and looked at that tape. Like what the hell was i thinking or attend. There's no way that guy could take me down. And i put myself on the bottom. Which cost me the fight. I had to go back and really kind of realize what my mindset was why. I put myself in that bad position Eh go back to wrestling making guys russell me not pulling guard not playing this game. I was never going to catch up with those black belts in jujitsu any more than they were going to catch up with me at our wrestling experience. There's no way so at a really kinda shift my thinking that loss forcing you to do that really analyze what was doing and again. Sometimes those losses are just as important as any win because it forces you to analyze who. You are what you're doing makes you a better athlete and a better human being at the end of the day after josh barnett won you won the fight. He felt a drug test. One to ask you. How bad do you think steroids were in. Mma at this point where they started they started testing in two thousand obviously started fighting in one thousand nine hundred ninety seven. I knew there were guys that were doing it. It was apparent. But i never looked at it as as an advantage for them. I felt like guys that were doing. That were focused on iraq. They were more focused on their beach muscles in how good they look walking out it instead of their endurance durability technique and tactics to win bites so i was looked at it as an advantage. I'm rolling there against the guy that's been doing that for that. I suspect there's been doing that. I knew his head was in the wrong place. And i would have a chance to really make him. Work really make entire l. Push that cardiovascular system to the pump oxygen to all those muscles I just saw that as an advantage. They didn't really start testing with the athletic commissions until two thousand. Obviously that's josh popped because they started testing It was what it was. They tried to give me the title back said. No you're not giving me the tunnel back. In my opinion. I still lost that bite front. You're not a hand the bill back. i'll white belt. But you're not just going to give it back to me and applied. Rico rodriguez in the higginson. I was winning. That fight is a big strong guy taking me down in the in the fifth by around and catching me with an elbow right in the eye and fractured my eye of which absolutely exploded in my brain. I barely tapped instantly. I knew something was seriously wrong. So berry serious. Injury took me about six months to recover from that. That's the first time my mom called me. She she was at that by she saw them put me into the ambulance and the whole thing but she called me you know. I couldn't fly home for a couple of days because of the you know everything that was going on. She called me after. I'd gone and had surgery on the orbit. She's like hey you know maybe it's time to think about doing something to retire like now. I'm i'm fine. Mom gonna be fine. Got more to do and obviously recovered in my back fighting but It was definitely one of those times. Mom's worried about my being by their knows best. Yeah did you ever look at what kurt was doing on. Wwe programming and think well. Maybe there's a way to make a bunch of money. Keep my orbital bones where they belong. Does that never even cross your mind. Well i loosened. That did the job that kurt was doing weekend. Weak out night after night was any easier than meet on in that cage every couple months and getting potentially get punched kicked in the head. The the grinding grueling schedule that those guys in pro wrestling keep is no joke. Burke can attest to that Also i think because of our my collegiate wrestling roots and already being involved in may It never really appealed to me did. I don't know any other way to say why you are. You're heavyweight champion. What made you make the move to light heavyweight champion. What reason for them. Well i lost that. Fight to josh burnett in had lost the fight to riga. Rodriguez wasn't the heavyweight champion. I was a small heavyweight anyway. Walking around twenty I threw it out there that they had already scheduled to fight the last fight on my contract with andrea in the heavyweight division. I had thrown it out there to joe silva and company saying. Hey i you know i can make two five. There's a chance at or you're interested in me coming down at finding a light-heavyweight i can make that pretty easily I was scheduled to fight. Andre andre broke his hand relief before that. Fight the same time. This is going on in the lightheaded division chuck and and tito tito was the champ. Chuck was number one contender. For whatever reason they could make that fight hap and junk was pissed off. He wanted his shot to like friends. I we always agreed. We'd never fight So they were the processes stripping tito of his title and they asked me. If i said i wasn't gonna fight andrei because of the broken hand. Would i find chuck at light weight for the interim championship while they kind of got out of there and gave chuck his shot. I said yeah. I'll do that again. I think they expected my old ass was just gonna get beat by chuck in chuck would be the interim champ that will put more pressure on tito to have to find to unify the belt and the titles. Obviously again i was the monkey ranch. A record plans ready at beat chuck and now. I'm the champs. And so they they said hey. We want you to fight year right away. unified the belts and said okay. That sounds great. And so three months later i ended up fighting a tito to unify the interim championship. The and the championship belt in. And now i'm the light heavy champion so Again kawamata whirlwind. And i was the fly in the ointment.

"So like me. Feel so much better about colombia and australia because obviously we didn't necessarily the best of terms but the way that they functioned. I felt like truly as a unit that was on the same page. That made me feel so good at warmed my heart and just fell nice to see them. Not fighting with each other but taking on the drama of of lucina and tammy which is so much. And i think it was our andre andre. Maybe that commented on it though is look. These are like major cultural differences. And i think that he really just hit the nail on the head. I mean look the way that tammy and lesean are behaving to me is very unacceptable but what they believe in what they stand for that you know. Obviously i think is one hundred percent culture. Also they're just never going to be on the same page. And i don't know how you reconcile that yeah definitely. There seems to be some conflict or disagreements. They're on on how they're behaving. I guess towards one another. Potentially it's just come such a long way liana from when a just locked himself in the bedroom and play games and sleep there and not be with kalani. They're on the same page. There are taking all of this conflict on head on together like to the point where they tammy is out here instigating instigating an insect trying to get a rise out of us. Well that pay. You chose her family over us. And he's a no. You're disrespectful to me in my house and to my wife. It's her bodies choice. I had no choice but to throw you out and then came the whole obviously cheap. You can push your mom. Natalie is on the same pages tammy being you can push your mama bush your mama and then they show us the clip again which seems like he like lifted. Her out of the house is the way i saw it. Mom that's where the cultural comes in. Where like you know depending who you are you might see that as a very rude gesture very aggressive gesture or however you might take but to me. It seemed like he was just moving them out. Because of the drama that was ensuing and the conflict that was ensuing right. Yeah and that's the that's the thing is that he was putting a really tough situation. What do you kind of expect him to do. You know it's Think of the the charlie.

"That's friends without the our best fiends, who? All right? Talk about Libyan. Andre, speaking of fiends, okay, this, I didn't like any of this either. Okay, so here is the funny part about this. So Libby is pretending to study Romanian and now she has no accent. I know. It's like, wow, funny how this works. It's like you can under the day long but now you're going to pretend that you don't even know how to do an accent, huh? You're like. Oh, ha. I when I tell you that's like my biggest pet peeve with her besides, her neck is the way she says Andre Andre. Yeah, but now she has a nice accent. So, you know, she also, she has a Romanian teacher. I know. That's kind of fun though. All right. Well, this is weeks after the reunion. I love that. Just her and Andre, and the baby. Drove the RV home and everyone else flew home. It's like that would have just made more sense to begin with. I mean, it took ten minutes to get home and it's 12 days. Right? How many times you stop then am sorry bro? Hm so Andre make some Crepes. They look delicious. I love Crepes and he's like, listen, get dressed. It's going to take you so long and she's like, no I already have makeup on. I just and it's like I've that's you at Mike? Yes, I don't think you do. All right, you know? They go to the go to the property, they go to the flip and they go to the web very bad. Like sour milk Libby so that way she's going to be a designer and Andres like, yes, she's going to be a designer cuz she's a woman. She knows colors, I guess Noel. He's in a winter coat. Chacos in shorts. What's happening and Andres in Ohio, right? And is it like a cardigan? I think. What is the temperature? Okay, so I didn't know. Florida, ever got cold enough for a down jacket phone. Number one, although Chuck, is that guy to always wear shorts, no matter what his world, but also like, what is the temperature for Andre though? He has on like your favorite type of Hoodie? That's super odd. Material hoodie, love that. I know. I was like, that's Tracy's favorite hoodie. It's a good hoodie on today. It was probably like 70° there. Oh God, that would be in a bikini. So Andre is getting the listing dead. He's going to be the the listing agent on this piece of property and Chuck that all of his kids are going to get mad. Okay? So Chuck aren't you the boss? He lets everybody walk all over him. Yeah, why are you letting this happen? You're creating a circus. It's like I don't understand what it has to do with the rest of the kids. I just don't I don't know why he has to keep talking about. Yeah, Chuck said well, so Andre was talking about how Charlie screwed up a few houses buffets on it cuz he was probably drunk. Well, he said, he all he wanted to do was party. Yep. And that's an interesting. It's very funny. So now they bring their the kids to a bounce house place so they can rent one. Yeah, he brought they brought the kids to last Ariel and they brought the kids to the Norovirus. That's gross there. Like which one tastes like, the best sickness that you would like to get which one tastes trappy. Why is she bringing her sisters to a dog? Mom's house to tell them that Andre will be the listing agent because they need this. They need a story. I guess. All right. So now she's also hurt her theme for the party is T4 too. Cuz l e is going to be to Thursday. It's cute. Okay so now something that I noticed about Jen, yeah.

It's a giant slice and it's a giant box that they give you like a full size box recorders. Yeah and so. That's what i mean by like a giant slice of pizza. It's like no. They actually made it. Look like if you found the giant person and they were to hold. It would look to scale andre andre. Yeah okay it says there's okay it has pictures but i'm just like i want. Click on one of those No it's not. There's we if we haven't seen it yet because we have to wait for one of those disney bloggers. That's what it is. We gotta wait for yeah by vendors. Campus back open all. Apparently if you know someone that works there you can get in anytime you want. Because they work there but then you are an actual. It's impossible for my friends to get in but my friend. That knows someone that works there. She was in there the day before it was open to the public and i was like excuse me because he works here. I'm like what but then my other friend lives in l. a. and she said that it's like a What was it a nine hour q. Just to get tickets just to get tickets. Yeah yeah i was kind of looking into it when we're at a time that you have to be conference resident but i think they're opening up like in a week or two completely but And they're to be a mad dash for those crazy opening up completely and they were like the worst place Disney come on. We try picture of the sandwich. We gotta wait for that. So that's another interesting thing that we that we saw speaking of this hundred dollars sandwich is that's why they made that title is because there are people who a living going to disneyland and they're living is them going to disneyland recording them going to disneyland and they put it on youtube and they just get like sponsored and they just get fans of their patriarch and whatever and they're just like. Oh my god. Please go try this for us. And it's like that's exactly what disney's doing is they know. They're getting all their youtube bloggers back. That's what they're going forward if you're a youtube and those are the sharks k. Yeah those watch almaguer sir. But wouldn't you as disney like. Not once people just showing off all your stuff for free like i guess it's a fine line of blake promotion and or well known disney's not sponsoring anything for these people like these people are give me. Disney would have the power to shut down. What i'm saying disney right. Yeah but they're not gonna be like you can't bring cameras in here. Yeah it's such a weird. It's such a weird gray area of cross promotion is what's happening. Because how can you be mad at someone for promoting your business. And that's basically what dan i get away with when we go to meow wolf for go on trips and we have the gimbal camera that small and we have our phones out. But it's like us. There's only very few places like certain hotels that were like. You can't have cameras out but yet all these venues and stuff. I want you to promote. Because they know how important instagram and twitter and social media is that people are going to see that more than they see a tv commercial So it's like you can't be mad at me when i'm promoting your business. It's making people come out here and you don't know who i am because you see rich people wearing black slacks and crocs and you see how you can't judge people if they have a camera out you just need to say hey. Thanks for promoting me giving me.

"Okay yeah yeah because the other part of the poll was to have matthew mcconaughey. Hey run for governor of texas that. He's actually talking about doing yet. That apparently was another big one. Yeah no um lying. Matthew mcconaughey in talks right now about running campaign for governor of texas. That's so let's talk about that ferment. Hold on there seems to be a lot of people moving out of la in hollywood and moving to texas. Yeah i don't ride. That might be the next stop. Don't think love to think that georgia was the the next stop but with all of the politics going on in georgia with the voting rights and everything. Yep there's a lot of studios law productions that are pulling out right and a will. Smith announced his emancipation movie to pull out and not bring. They're not doing that. But what are they going to do with. The backlots at are already enjoy the same shit that they did with the backlots that satin nevada or in arizona. They just dry up and die. Like there's a netflix Studio that's like dead in the water. Somewhere out there really. Yeah they're empty. I thought that they were building one in our kirke. They bought one. I think it was like netflix. Bought one in albuquerque. Okay but there again. There's a but the fact that they can buy go in and buy a lot by studio lot means that their studios again that are drying up. So that's the question. I don't know i mean i don't know enough about studio real estate right a straight answer on whether it's a good idea where to move your studio too but it just seems i don't know everything i listen. I listen to other podcasts and actors and celebrities and things like that and it seems like everybody seems to be. I don't say migrating or moving towards texas and i don't. I don't know what the draw is missing something i don't know like i don't know i don i dare say what's the big deal i mean how might even my kids moved to austin. Yeah you know. They're in austin now. So i don't know what the i don't know what the draw is. I don't know what. I'm missing miss something. That might be something to look into. Yeah probably maybe the very hard rundown go on the road. You do a rare rundown road trip. Yeah the railroad down. It's been people asked we've had. I've had multiple people. Ask if we're going to do it. And if we do it to film it oh no it's definitely going to get filmed so something like i'm already looking into that as you know Into the new equipment that we're going to need to take this into a video podcast. It's time so it is time is for short time. The animation didn't quite go in the direction that we wanted it to go right so now we just need to do the video you know. It is going to cost quite a bit of money. But i'm definitely willing to make that investment. So have you watched any. And i'm kind a left turn here again but have you watched any movies or anything on netflix. Hulu or anything recently I mean aside from movies or show does that include shows. Yeah i mean aside from like i mean. We've talked about before some of the other. The other shows that you've watched and stuff and that's fine but anything new or different Clearly didn't watch wanda beaten or the falcon the falcon winter soldier. I'm not gonna talk about some not do the spoiler thing but the last episode of and winter soldier an amazing shift like somebody told me the other night. That is my favorite thing to come out of marvel so far yes talking to the minnesota and i'm like Punisher mine and i heard that. They're rebooting punisher with john byrne paul well. Let's hope so first of all. Let's hope because it's always better when they keep the same character. Right in line are the same actor. I should say in line with the character But yeah no the The falcons winter soldier is very much of i. Just hope the correct. It's kind of like a buddy flick. It's kind of a very much a lethal weapon feel. Oh that's cool yeah. It's it's like that like they're you know they're trying to figure some shit out like a They're not detectives clearly but they're trying like kind of playing that role a little bit while. I'm still finishing off Vikings okay. I'm halfway through season six Which is the final season. And then i guess they're starting up new spinoff show that takes place. One hundred years later that i think is going to be on. Net flix called vikings valhalla. So it's going to be a hundred years later with and once again it's going to be done by history channel so it's going to be about true. Vikings okay so hold up we gotta take a step back here because something was brought to my attention a few episodes ago. Okay when we talking about vikings the last time i have to lay down the correction here so when you were talking about before. I think there was a there was like a mixture. We wrong a topic and then. We spun into another secondary topic from vikings to greeks. Okay but i think because of the way that the show was edited it made it sound like all one big thing. Okay so i just want to clear the air real quick with everybody like we get the difference between viking mythology and like angry absolutely. Yeah we understand that. But i think again and i said this when it was brought to my attention before i said i think during the editing it got a little mixed little boy because i had to cut some things out for time and i think things got screwing in. No you know. We're we're very very aware of the difference is sorry about that. So episodes ago on that one soviet link were not completely yeah Oh yeah but besides vikings. I watched the rest of season. Two have solar opposites. Love that show But i started watching a show that i started many years ago. It only had four seasons. I found it on hulu again. I was like. I remember that shot. I remember being funny. But i remembered nothing about it. It's called happy endings. Oh yeah so do i. shows funny. It's super funny but it did have a short a short lived. Yeah dude the the best friend. I forget his name but the the gay guy talk. He's hilarious bro. That guy alone. He's like coming out to his parents. He goes all coming out. It's going to be so gay. I like he's so funny he was the other one That was with jason jason. Today siddique's in the stormtrooper outfits. Oh that was him. That was handed. I'll get the fuck outta here all. That's awesome hilarious but yet that was him jason today gifts that was in the store. The one that punched maybe auto in the mandalorian. That's also put a face to that voice but if you listen if you want again you can hear it. Then you'll you'll pick right up So as i've been watching happy endings again Love that i mean. I've been watching married with children so often i saw i said i thought i'm keeping up with doc. Winter soldier. amazing amazing marvel's doing it again It only a couple of episodes left. And it's done and then we sit in basically wait for black widow to come out either. How does it lines everything up. Yeah and that's perfect. That's fine then When i watched bad trip on netflix. I know nothing about this. He told me this earlier. When i walked in like our have not seen as i'm just gonna i'm i'm gonna wait. I'm going to have you watch it clearly. Can you tell me what it's about. i mean. clearly it's about a bad trip. no i thought so too. I thought i was like oh just about these. getting high. get them. no. I meant like a road trip. That was my thought process. But okay no i thought was about getting high so there you go both both sides of the spectrum there but it's literally like what you said it's a brick and road trip right so when you brought up the heart wrote down i was like oh my god trip is so funny so the basis. Who's in it is. The comedian akin. I can't give his name right now. eric andre andre. Little rel. hurry. Okay i'm saying that right company haddish that i don't know who that is. You could say his greatest football player ever greatest one forever in the NFL. You know all of that. There's so much more to me that goes into being Just a great professional athlete. And this is not even looking at global sports International sports. You think about influence globally, It might be someone like Pele. Not that I'm great, Kevin, who's the greatest athlete of all time in your opinion, all right. Just my opinion. I know it sounds cliche, I say, Michael Jordan, but I personally think it Beyond sports. I really do. As far as athletically you already know. Everybody already knows what he's done what he was capable of. Um culturally. He's almost touched everything in my personal opinion. I mean, he's on in boxing. Marina Lobo's, he's overseas. A Zafar is just When the Gatorade commercial first happened for us Literally. Everybody wanted to be like Mike, you first leaving. Remember little jingle that you know it mean it was catching. Um, if our asses society wise? Yes. I believe you're right with that. Jordan really wasn't a Hard, too hard individual. Um, but I really do believe he does check. All the other boxes. Everybody does clean T o the records and the numbers As far as you know, the sports concern, you know individually. Yes. He changed the game. They had Jordan rules. You know it Team wide? Yes. He even changed the game. There he was. I think one of the Pioneers of just players that were able to elevate other players. Engines put him on a second level will put them on, I guess on the same not even the same pedestal, but something where they will be able to take it go with it, and even the most successful in their careers.
