Let's get right into as to why i ask you to come on the show today. Well first of all you've been in oil and gas industry. I think for thirty years now of focused on various different land administration land management systems. I believe your energy software consultant right. Yeah that's correct so. Currently i'm a manager and product expert at quorum software or all over the world. But i'm here in our houston office. And i've been in history like you said for quite a while it's been about thirty years. Focus on land administration and land management system. So depending on whether i was on a business side or software side so much of that time about eighteen years of it i was in ohio. Napa late you working with some oil and gas companies out there and then pass twelve years here in houston and so of that time. Twenty years was on the business side working with some larger independent impedes like resources and apache and then ten years i was doing software consulting so for two companies pete to energy and currently with corm software. So in that time. I've kind of been. I also have my own little social group. Pre it just organized. A small gathering energy influencers called.

"In an organization to then have the platform go buy from there. Okay and then. Let's talk about the elephant in the room here for the last eighteen months or so now and that's our good friend. Coded there's been you some challenges with pandemic safety in return to work support. Have you guys worked on it. It's a really a question so you certainly whether it's wave to wave three culprits here for a while as an organization. We were very well. Well-funded well-established going into it with a unique opportunity to kind of look across the valley as opposed to into the valley and we came up with some solutions that could help our clients by making timely investments and small pivots to our business so turns out that being a digital health and safety company in the middle of a global pandemic is actually a very very good place to be and so you know. We grew two hundred twenty nine percent. Our revenues grew year over year while working through the pandemic. Yes so it's been a very very difficult time for for many. Certainly we're here to help. Our businesses and our shareholders have been able to support those people going through very very tough times when we look at getting information about people's location their whereabouts which translates to are they at risk. All we're doing is taking standard health and safety conversations and extending it to those elements that are prevalent withholding so submit to you. That organizations have become more aware of where their people are organizations. Have become more aware of what people's health status and in we think. This is a great a great movement towards utilizing digital to continue that momentum into the hse space on what basis to follow up a little bit of bonet in. This was the final thing i wanted to talk about. Unless you have something. In addition to it but punch you called lone worker monitoring. I think that's you know with failsafe. You know your workers are never truly alone and especially gas industry. You know a lot of times. These guys are out there in production fields or whatever and they are all alone. Some it seems to me like knowing where your people are and understanding what they're working on and having them connected through something like this means that they're not alone right and you're right you're exactly right armour's to make sure that people return home safely every night. We think real important collie way love that thing. That's our thing. We think we have a very important calling and teammates that i get to come to work with everyday share that share the importance of that and really appreciate the good work. You do your organization the awareness you bring to the challenge in front of all of us and yet look forward to one of those thursday night events by arguing by the beer. Oh wow yeah. "Great connectivity. With lots and lots of capacity so you know during the super bowl 's go into these facilities these arenas these stadiums and build out massive distributed antenna systems and deploy these networks on another thing that we're doing is we're coupling that network with something called met mobile edge compute or multi access edge compute. So it's basically bringing the ability to have the cloud compute applications closer to the end users so now we can have a fan wearing an augmented reality set of glasses watching the football game. And you know just imagine as the quarterback drops back and he's looking down field. You might see on your screen on overlay. You're watching it real time through the glasses but the overlay might come up of a red zone or area where he's completed more passes than the other area you know and then you actually see him. Deliver the pass to a certain area so those kinds of things are really neat. I think it was not this past super bowl super bowl before. Don't quote me on the one hundred percents here. It was that one. But i'm pretty sure it was where we deployed meg in onside elta at a stadium and we had wide receivers with not during the game. Of course they had on virtual reality glasses and they were able to use the camera on the glasses to see you know just basically to be able to see through the camera. They are actually seeing an augmented reality. You know picture and they were able to throw and catch a pass real time. So what enables that is quick compute or low latency so if you have applications where you need really low latency verizon's also bring into the mix this of putting compute out there with the network so some of those types of experiences that were starting to deploy and develop in. You'll start to see very very soon in places like nfl football games. You can just imagine the benefits of doing something similar to that in the plant for a real time. I want you to tell me a little bit about yourself because we do have an international flavor to this podcast. My next podcast is supposed to be with someone out of israel here not too long ago. It somebody out of dubai and somebody out of aberdeen and we've had people out of pears and england and then we have a lot of guests on from that foreign country called texas. But i can tell by your accent. You're in the south somewhere right russell. A lot of people oftentimes confused me for being a native of boston or london. One of the two. But i can see how they would make that mistake. So so you're in the birmingham alabama. That's right also yeah. I'm in a little town. Outside of birmingham on springville alabama out in the country. Love it out here. I'm sure everybody will know exactly where all have can they find it on google maps. You probably so probably. So you're in israel that may not able to find springville. Yeah close enough to birmingham. Okay all right. So you're in alabama boy so i guess your role tie. Oh yeah. My son actually just started electrical engineering and auburn. So that's kinda hard to stomach all my goodness. It's going to be a good thing for him. But i'm a crimson tide man. Well for those who are not in the united states and of course they're obeying states will know this but for those who are not in the united states are football. Rivalries are almost religious in nature like the christian crusades or whatever. You know there's michigan and michigan state and and then there's texas and texas am and then there's all burners and there's alabama and of course alabama hose record for more national championships than any other major college university. So that's quite a thing in alabama. So tony did you graduate from the university of alabama now. I actually went to school at a small school in eastern alabama about night of jacksonville state. University some jacksonville state graduate but growing up in alabama as hard not to be an alabama fan now my auburn folks unless you exact. That's right that's right okay. So let's jump right into this tony. Because i got to thinking about it and i know everybody else probably thinking about it and we have the psychologist us. We have two hemispheres to our brain. We have the if you're mostly analytical and methodical in your thinking you said to be left brain and if you tend to be more creative or artistic you thought to be right brained so what that means is in my case on the left side. There's nothing right on the right side. There's nothing left..

There's some trying times for industry and in health safety specifically. I think you have to have those people that you can drawn and bossing office to help get through and then incredibly valuable. And i think from both you and jason that seems to be the biggest insight take advantage of all opportunities you can to relate to other people. Don't be the lone ranger out there. Don't think you know at all. Don't make the mistake of of not taking advantage of other people's experiences and then all of a sudden you get caught in a situation that you could have have avoided so jason laura. Jason is the h. s. manager for red bluff resources out of oklahoma city. Is that right. Jason yes sir. Well jason. Thanks for coming on the show. This is a little inside baseball. We're just waiting for another shoe to drop. This is our fourth or fifth attempt to try and record this podcast. So it must. We've entitled to podcast valuable insights. I know from what we've gone through already and trying to get the recordings out before. I know that we're definitely going to have some valuable insights and for all of you listening out there. This i've told the story before. I think about the nba students and one of their topics was to discuss effective business presentations and so they got to talking about using powerpoint. And they got to discussing how you should put together a powerpoint slide and how many how many points one slide should have and and they couldn't come to an agreement on it so they called a professor and i said how many points should a good powerpoint slide have and the professor said at least one. And if you've been to a lot of presentations like i have with powerpoint presentations a lot of times. They're just they're pointless. But i know we're going to have more than one one good point here on on this show so you're gonna wanna listen to it but you can also wanna be listening for the foot to drop with the luck. We've had over the past two or three weeks you know. Sit on the edge of your seat and wait for the explosion to happen here. So we're going to really keep our fingers crossed because we have another special guest that we want to introduce at this time fact. Jason let you introduce her. Because she's in your your office right now. We tried to do this remotely like we normally do between all three everson. That was another technical issue that we had. But jason. Won't you introduce. Laura forster got laura right. My office zora is in charge of completions safety and or safety for energy lauren. I have worked together on and off on various projects at different companies and we worked together very closely. When i worked at energy as well. Okay so let's start right there. And in fact laura one of the reasons we initially had problems trying to to get this podcast recorded. She was out on location. Somewhere in the bows of new mexico. I think aren't you laura and this all this high tech technology it just. It just won't work on mobile hotspot so laurie use. You actually spend most of your time out in the field right definitely lately. We've been pretty busy picking up on boarding racks drilling rigs as well as workover as well. Good okay so so jason. Let's go back to you for just a second. And then we're going to segue into to laura you have kind of an interesting career. You're now the h. S. manager for red bluff resources. But you've been in this field for flood over twenty years. Yes sir. I got out of college and oklahoma state in nineteen ninety nine have worked in oil and gas manufacturing consulting now back to oil and gas which hopefully barring any market related swaying. I'll stay in for the rest of my career and well. We certainly wish you look on that. So you started off. You started off in. Hse four an oil and gas company but then you moved off into other industries right. Yes sir. I actually made a mid foray into human resources which i turned tail and ran from as quickly as possible but one of the valuable insights that we're going to talk about on on this show today is you learn from i guess not. I hate to use these terms that have become cliches. You know thinking outside the box you know. Th you know thinking outside the box that phrases no longer thinking outside the box you know but seeing other industries oil and gas that gave you kind of a broader perspective on hse correct. Yes sir the interesting thing about health and safety and environmental. He kind of lump those together. Is that regardless of what industry. You're in regardless of what company you work for. Nobody if if you're working for a company that's worth anything. Nobody wants to see their employees injured. Nobody wants to see their contractors injured. Nobody wants to see the environment harmed. And by and large we have a good network to work together to solve some of the problems so he each don't have to go through the same thing over and over yet and so by reaching out and taking advantage of of other people's experiences you know what's that that old saying the young man went up to the old guy who was you know very successful than everybody looked up to him and the young guy. Seo guy said added you get so as you get so wise you know an adult. You have such good judgment. He said well that comes from experience. He said well. Where do you get the experience. He said from all your bad judgment. So i've been very fortunate my career to have people to lean on when i had a question. And that really has benefited me more than more than you could ever imagine. In fact i think that's actually going to segue into bring in laura back into the discussion here in just a second but jason happened very early in your career that i think had a profound effect upon you add like free to to share it with the audience. Because i think it's another valuable insight. Sure one of the biggest things that sticks out oftentimes whether you're at a seminar at a conference or what have you somebody will ask about what's one of your biggest memories from saving health and mine came about two weeks on the job. My graduated from home state nine hundred nine and went to work for a small drilling company in stillwater. Oklahoma and one of the we had eight rigs and there was a floor hand. That was washing the rig off the water hose and the water hose was such that got tangled around the rotary table and in doing so. Wrap the floor. Hand up in the hos- which causes head to hit the derek as a rotary table win around and the heart had that he was wearing took the first two blows and his head took the third one before the driller could get there and get the rotary table shutdown and i worked for safety director at that time and the safety director win with the employees to the hospital and my job was to go pick his wife up and take her and you know this time of twenty three twenty four years old and this is before cell phones. I think i might have had a bag phone but it costs like seventeen dollars a minute to talk on it so i had to. I had to go pick her up. Explained to her what happened and take her to the hospital. And that was so impactful to me because here was a young girl about my same age. Who neither of us had any idea if her husband was going to be alive or not when we got to the hospital and you know just the just the look on her face. The fear of the unknown. That really pushed.

What's your position enroll with the company. They've i'm the north american regional manager and one of the things that i am in charge of what north america is the safety program. So not only. Do i run operations but i run the safety program for north america and then couple of other hats like we all wear these rough times. We've been in the oil field last couple years. So yeah it's not my job phrase. That doesn't go over too well anymore. Does it no sir. Sure doesn't everything has to be our job. Dr davis is a small family. Nick close knit company. That we've always pretty much how that mentality. So so where are you right now. I live in houston. And i work out of the houston office. Does our corporate facility here in houston so north american operations and then all of the corporate support systems work out of houston off. Okay all right so today. We're going to be discussing the general safety culture gyro data for all you. Hse folks out there and and what you guys are are doing to improve safety across your company and your operations so christmas hit three or four bullet points on it. Okay sounds good yeah. There's a few things that we've done over laos You know couple years to really improve our safety stats and culture and one of the things i would say. Dreams is the main thing that we've done is actually adopted. A safety culture you know. Previously in years past safety was always important to eight. it always has been one of the staples that.

"Obviously that the tried and true when his is digging it out and taking it to either a obviously a landfill or bioremediation land farming facility or something like that but depending on the state there are land farming opportunities in some states you can take stagnated dern put in a sale and turn it until right right because at the end of the day. Oil is organic so the bacteria and things will continue to eat it and it will remediate itself after a while but the other soil there some in situ things. Some people use chemicals that can make santer adages adjective move. You can make the soil to kinda to do that. Same process in situ versus exit. You when you dig it out. A kind of depends on. There is no one-size-fits-all for most oil spills. S was another. Good thing about having a qualified algebra. Roy was probably saying something as close to this. They can think outside the box and really find the best remediation method for your release at that time. I think that's a very good point because one size does not fit all. "Transported through pipelines. There are quality standards related to oil and anderson. Anderson house has applications for the other liquids it. We're talking about correct going all right. Hey russ me break in their fellow second essentially just want to talk about the acquisition of spectra sensors in twenty twelve session. They're all equally important to do those measurements for gas quality control for the same reasons.
