That was the first time I'd ever encountered an Arby's and it was love at first bite, my mom went to work at an Arby's when we lived in Norfolk back in the late, seventies into the early eighties. And so, I'd always be able to go over and see Mom and grab. Either a beef and cheddar or regular roast beef, an order of potato cakes, and a jamocha shake. And that, pretty much tells you why. "Can. Maybe you could fix it. It's easier to do it. If you can see the end of the tunnel. No question. I'm not take these three steps, and then I'll be out of here versus I feel trapped here. That's exactly right up here at stress. That's right. And in this situation is going. I've got to go to school to get into ministry. No, not necessarily. To necessarily get in and make those connections then that add additional schooling. Well, we're going to do that when we can cash for it. Yeah. Good stuff. Linda's in Anaheim, California. Hi, Linda. Welcome to the Ramsey should Hello, Mr Ramsey. Thank you so much for taking my call. It is a true honor to speak with you today. YouTube. I am I am happy to report I am an everyday millionaire effect of march of this year ago. Happy kiss you. Yeah, I could show that with you and six payments away from finishing up mortgage. And it's true blessing. Oh, yes. Thank you. Thank you. The reason I'm calling is I need some advice. I am soon parting ways with them ex business into the business, part ex business partner. And we haven't L C. We have an investment property in a different state. Actually that I proposed to sell. She wishes to buy me out. So my question is. What is the fare? I want to be, You know, First of all, most fair what is the How do I calculate my share of this? Do you know? Is it the appraised value minus alone divided by two or is it wouldn't let that you would be the appraised value minus about 15% for expenses. If you sold it to a real estate agent, you'd have closing costs and other things. And so I would take 85% of appraisal minus the lone divided by two Okay, That's what I figured. I wanted to be fair on that. That's very fair about that. Because that's about all you wouldn't it. But by the way, 15% might be a little rich on expenses. But you're also you're not gonna get asking price usually And this market, you might get more than asking Price had been on what it is. But most real estate deals don't sell for asking price over the scope of your life. So like I've got that actually an hour State plan if one of our kids wants to buy, we got a bunch of real state when the kids wants to buy one of the other ones out, and they want to sell out. They need to do it at 85% of appraisal. That covers all the expenses. And.

"About this man in California, you know we talked earlier. Guess it was last week about the catalytic converters. Being stolen from cars has been like, you know, 1000% increase in number of thefts here locally. Well, apparently, it's a problem all across the country. Yeah. Man is suspected of trying to steal a vehicle's catalytic converter in Anaheim, California, died after the car fell on him. Officers responded to a report of a deceased man there in a neighborhood, according to police. Man was apparently in the process of stealing the catalytic converter When the jack failed, crushing the would be thief to death. Right there on the spot. The car was was the was the car was the property of a local business owner in that area and came out and saw this horrible, thick sena killed by Prius. Yeah, it Zez Horrible isn't a Prius. Yeah, his Prius and apparently, Prius has been a very popular hit. That has been the number One cars that these thieves like to target. Yeah, and we were speculating, you know, trying to forget what How do you do? How did they do it so quickly? And I guess this is I don't know if this is the exclusive way of doing and having a jack it up and get under there, or some people are able to do it without doing that. But that was the mode he chose and the Jack failed and fell on him. Converters were targeted because they contain some precious metals, which can be scrapped and then sold to make a quick buck. On day estimate that the thieves are getting about $200 from each catalytic converter. Wow, and they're in the story. There's some photos of, I guess, um Some of the recovered catalytic converters on and it's amazing these things they're just piled up. This is this is rampant. This is really, really, really, really, really way to protect yourself. So that yours is installing. Can you go to the garage and have them welded on? Or is this something that they actually cut off? There's really not a way to protect your vehicle. Well, looking at these photos, it looks like they're literally cut off. So I don't know what the hell you would do. The only way I could think you could really prevent this from happening is, you know, Be sure to park in an area where it's not gonna be too isolated and maybe an area where it would be hard for them to pull this off in your garage and home. I think if somebody was doing this in your neighborhood Maybe somebody is has gone to work in that third cars in the driveway, walked outside and you saw somebody working on your neighbor's car. I don't think you know any different. Oh, they must be having an issue. Yes, Somebody's working on their

Disney Aims to Reopen Disneyland and California Adventure Parks at 'Limited Capacity by Late April'

"We do have a an end in sight with the opening of disneyland resort in anaheim california. So we're we're gonna see it open. That's exciting and so. Initially there was news that it would open april first and of course it is restricted. But it looks more based on. What we've we've heard from ceo bob Jap iq that. It might be leader in april and they've got a call thousands and thousands like ten thousand cast members that have been furloughed. They've got a call them all back and not only do they need refresh irs because it's been a year They need to be retrained because there are full year it has. It has been a year almost to the day well today but this week marks the the week that things started closing down last year. So i remember that day very well when we were podcasting and we couldn't believe that disney was shutting down and as we were recording that episode or no stuff just kept coming in as we were recording. I was very enclosing. This amazing that they're closing this closing bill o. Voice yeah it was very quick it was like do you think they'll close. They just closed it now. As a matter of fact yes. I do believe they will close very quickly so They've got to get all those cast members back and retrained. Now it is exciting the reopening but there are some caveats. it'll be at fifteen percent capacity. And initially they presume that it'll be restricted to california residents. Only so. Don't book your plane ticket anytime soon. can you imagine getting to do disneyland. At fifteen percent capacity.

news twenty four hours a day on air and on quick take by Bloomberg power by more than twenty seven hundred journalists and analysts in more than one hundred twenty countries I'm Susanna Palmer this is Bloomberg this is a masters in business with very results on Bloomberg radio extra special guest today is Paul Krugman he is the winner of the two thousand and eight Nobel memorial prize for his contributions to new trade theory and new economic geography he is a distinguished professor at the unique graduate center of the city of New York he spent much of his career teaching at MIT and Princeton where he focused on economics he has either authored or edited twenty seven books published over two hundred scholarly articles most recently his book arguing with zombies economics politics and a fight for a better future just came out he is the second most cited author on the college syllabus for economics and is perhaps best known as a columnist for The New York Times Paul Krugman welcome back to Bloomberg hi there it's good to see you again let's jump right into this so I recall you telling a story that you were a science fiction geek as a kid how did Isaac Asimov's foundation trilogy lead you to economics Isaac Asimov wrote this you know these these books things nineteen forty or thereabouts which are you know what states galactic empire and people use blasters have space ships but after the science fiction part is the least of it it's social science fiction the the core of the story is there's this group of mathematical social scientists the cycle starry ins with figured out the galactic civilization is falling and have discovered that if they intervene in just the right way they can limit the period of barbarism so it's basically social scientists save the universe I want to be one of those guys and economics was as close as I could get that's pretty amusing people may not know that you are an economics textbook author you and your wife wrote what is today the second most popular economics textbook in colleges today who who's the lead is that make you are yeah I'm afraid is Greg Mackie he's so what ever led you to write a textbook that sounds like a lot of work actually yes so the first thing about it is that nobody writes one of those principles books except out of ignorance of how much work is going involve the actual the the the labor that's involved in producing especially the first edition but even the revisions is enormous partly it's a it's a reasonably honest way to make a living it says it is my aging is not well it's supplemental so this is my wife is Michael author our in house name for the book is economics four oh one K. funny but it was also we thought that if we could have a different kind of text book that people most students come up thinking economics is this totally dry subject and you know some of it is there anything I've got a net that put this story so we thought we could try to write a textbook which was as much as possible story driven that was about real world things and then we say here's how economic help you make sense of these things and so we wrote a a text book that was different and a lot of people like it and you were you still doing the revisions on the textbook while you were in stock home of for the low prices that that that is a decision that was second edition and the financial crisis broke as we're going through pages so we already were in in galleys and suddenly nothing in the money and banking chapter was true anymore as so we were frantically working to revise that that chapter in pages so every replacement passage had to exactly physically fill the space of the stuff it replaced so yeah we I had a lot of stuff I had to do install chrome robin spent a large part of the time on the floor of our hotel room crawling from one set of papers to another doing the revisions that was insane you had written or maybe I've read it in an interview about a decade ago that at the top of the dot com bubble you said Gee the stock market doesn't any more sense so I'm gonna pull out of equities it was a was a true and that he how did you that was true then we have in fact gotten back in some still I think of probably in our portfolio is less equity heavy than than probably the the average but well twenty years ago you were what early fifties late forties I was no twenty years ago I was late forties late forties so you should have equities then and now let's say yeah yeah so I mean I don't claim to be a great investor in fact Robbins got the better head for detail which is important so we we own a lot of selective real estate not not at the things where we think we know something okay what realistic goes up over time as well so wait if you when you say you've partially gun beckons that mean you're some stocks some balance some real estate yeah so you have a different we have a diversified portfolio that makes a whole lot of sense there's another issue I have to ask you about which is that of media bias lots of people these days have accused the media of being fake news or biased whatever you take a decidedly different perspective on bias tell us a little bit about that yeah the biggest so by and large the media get facts right the the foreman he I mean that's obviously true of me upright barter Seinfeld but the but the New York times gets facts right the what it doesn't do very well is it it doesn't know how to handle things where there really are two sides to a debate one of the very first columns I wrote back during the two thousand election said that if if bush at had said that the earth was flat the the headline would probably read views differ on shape of the planet right that the media are really terrible and that's very hard to this of a real problem when you have a not just a highly polarized political environment but asymmetrically polarized political environment where one side of the debate is pending zombie lies and the other is is not and so it is very that there's a real failure I think to inform there's a unwillingness to I mean when I started out I was literally forbidden to use the word lie in my columns and that's the longer true but even so there's a tremendous bias towards evenhandedness even when the hands are not remotely even quite interesting coming up we continue our conversation with professor Paul Krugman of CUNY university discussing the role of free.

C. T. you know what go ahead of focus on the ACT only M. prep and study for and I really want to encourage all parents to get my book get free degree because I actually teach some secrets inside of the book on how to press when should you start prepping when should you start having a conversation about the A. C. T. or the estate to you there are some schools that only accept the SAT SO one do the research and make sure and know what your school is going to require here Nikki and then from there I will say focus on that one but if you can do both of our church to both of them it's going to help you know low crime it's a great question real quick question we're gonna go out to Virginia and we're gonna be talking to misty misty how can I help you today hi Anthony I'm calling about my son world home school family okay my son will be graduating this June just a few days short shy of his sixteenth birthday wow he's yeah he's decided he doesn't want to go off obviously to a university okay sixteen so my question to you is what is what should we be doing or what should we help him be doing before he goes to college should be doing community college which is currently doing okay or is it okay to give them some space the modem be a kid or what the mixture what is going to benefit him back and this is good so your son is about to turn sixteen graduating from high school so clearly it is smart because he has more thanks I just love it so what is he what is he wanted this even know what sixteen other career field he wants to pursue he was talking about doing medical school and being a dermatologist but he's not committed to it I think his heart is then engineering but the way he puts it he doesn't want to go to college and band four six eight years getting a degree and then having the worked his way up in the field so that's why he doesn't want to do computer engineering because if that after you graduate it doesn't have to start at the bottom and work its way out before he can make that money yeah yeah so he isn't totally decided yet he's but I'm my husband and I are thinking about getting him a mentor and I've also connected with the local dermatologist to maybe talk to him about that route yes I just don't know what to do once you graduate and I don't want I don't want his resume to look battered application look bad I don't want to have gap but I also wanted to be able to be a kid but I I want to do what's best for him and so that's why I want to call you that's good we don't miss you thanks for calling I think this is a great question because your son is sixteen and I believe right now he doesn't have to rush to choose what he wants to do the fact that you are having this conversation now is amazing I'm split between two things I still want him to be a teenager I mean enjoyed a teenager life but at the same time I don't when his mind to drop so if he is okay with going to community college earlier on I think that's fine take one class online a maybe take one class inside the on the building I think getting creative there is great but the fact that he is already thinking about what he wants to do I agree with you get him a mentor get around some different people who look up to into the.

Rotor Focus

"Hello and welcome to. Who Aviation Week's check six podcast where this week? We are at the Heli Expo. Twenty twenty conference in Anaheim California I'm Guy I noticed. The senior Serb based in Los Angeles and with me is Mike Hershberg Executive Director of the Vertical Flight Society and Tony Osborne who've courses our London bureau chief and well known rotor heads expert at four so gentlemen thanks very much for for being here Just like to say that sadly of course the start of the show was inevitably overshadowed by the tragic accident last week and which took the life of Basketball legend Kobe Brian. His daughter and several several other people on the S S. Seventy six. That crashed north of La so was a terrible moment And of course it did slightly overshadow the start of the show but and did put some sort of focus perhaps also on safety and the renewed focus. That industry always strives for but because of that accident accidents And because the accident is still being investigated the at this point. There isn't that much we can talk about on the podcast but Just is to say that. Obviously it was a tragic event. And the industry's recognizing that we we. We saw some several of the companies sort of moment silence before the press conferences. And so on. But it hasn't really been overshadowed the event in a way that perhaps we thought it might ride. Just think of one thing. There's a number of safety workshops were done on this past weekend. FAA Administrator and others it it allowed them to highlight safety even more SAFETIES core focus focus of the helicopter industry but is going to be I think a rallying cry to redouble our efforts for the Industry Roy Absolutely Mike and and so moving onto the events of the show itself of course This pretty well. The biggest news that broke in terms of the industry was the surprise acquisition of the Swiss helicopter Copter Company by Leonardo so Tony of course we're in the middle of all of that. Yes it was a real surprise. I mean they had a press conference tonight before they no clues were revealed it was. It was quite a shocker. That the next morning sort of been clearly been bubbling away for a few weeks or even a few months. We'll see aviation. We have been invited out to Sicily the month before. If you've read your most recent edition Asian of the magazine you'll seeing that Doing their flight test and Sisley. But this is a real big deal for Leonardo. It gets them back into the light helicopter market and so finally just got could be awol one nine Koala which is just one the US Navy Pilot training competition partition But now by securing the s eight zero nine. They don't have to develop a new one themselves. They literally bog in it costs. Release something like five hundred million to a billion euros to develop a new helicopter and they've got one for one hundred eighteen million euros essentially that Isabel and was is that a bit of a surprise the promise of all of the aspects of that story the fact that it was such a bargain basement price culture initially been looking for four additional owners had their their owners Lynnwood. They've been funding them for the past decade. I mean we I saw what was then. The Marinko says I helicopter in two thousand eleven and they managed to prove to produce a flying prototype in in four years and there was a lot of skeptics when I showed up here in two thousand eleven even but but since then I've gone from strength to strength. They had had some challenges. I mean they're on prototype free now and that's the one that really seems to be working. And that's the aircraft that seems to have given confidence to investors and in particular not to Leonardo that this might be a viable product. Roy Of course they did exhibit exhibit. Some design changes. Could you just talk about a few of those. Yes so we. We saw some changes to the upper. cowlings this is essentially a single engine helicopter POW by Honeywell H. E. S. nine hundred engine so two point eight five metric ton aircraft. So they've essentially made some changes to the top of the aircraft after justice of the aero-dynamics to better ride smooth ride which is something that they want. They want to try and get a smooth ride as possible because they wanted to make it easier. Easier to develop an autopilot which will then give them a single engined insurance rules and capability Rydin and Mike. Did you get a chance to go and see it on the exhibit floor. Aw I did Now also visited them at their headquarters at secon Switzerland last month and I was really impressed really by the team So they've hired a lot of X Airbus and Leonardo Bell really from from everywhere and they've really changed the the the makeup of the team that it's instead of being a Swiss helicopter using Swiss suppliers is a global helicopter using global talent and global suppliers so I think think That the new road ahead the new the the The new prototypes. That are flying. I think they've really turned the corner in the last year and obviously their her Their new owners saw that as well pretty important to remember as well. This is going to remain an autonomous unit. Going to be separate of Leonardo this is pretty. The more crucial aspects is that Copter wants to try and remain small in quite agile and speedy so Hopefully away away from the Bam off. The Leonardo it can still develop an bringing new technologies pretty rapidly. Leonardo management of talked about the copter being used as a as as a testbed for hybrid technologies for electric propulsion. And so on so the next steps should be interesting and with the backing of a big group that should help push sales els change the supply chain. It could be a game changer. For for the copter draft and Well of course talking game changers and the segue potentially into the electric field Although there weren't as many e veto type concepts here this year the with the the bell nexus showing up at last year's event There was of course still some activity and Mike. You're you're leading the charge really and telling the world about the veto revelation. You came up with some startling. earthling statistics To open the show with the could you tell us a bit more. About how many numbers of of new entrance right so the vertical society's been tracking EV development since two thousand thirteen timeframe we had our first workshop in two thousand fourteen so this past week or the week before the show. We had our our seventh annual electric. Vitale symposium So we've been tracking things closely and we have a website that tracks the all the developments the aircraft so the beginning of the week we had two hundred fifty two different concepts listed By the end of the week we'll have a few more as more things of have have come to light But yeah it's That tracks everything you know. Let's see later this area so not all of those are really be likely to end up on a product right But yeah almost two hundred companies or or inventors are looking at this base and didn't do say that it's the if you average out the rate at which they've been added added they seem to be coming out of the woodwork about two two per week to March one hundred year so every January two fifty. Now it's one hundred and fifty last year about fifty the year before so it's It's almost like a mass hysteria where everybody is so excited. Needed about The potential of electric vitale. That anybody who has this idea starts to design something or maybe even flies a drone or something subscale but It's really much more complicated than that and You really have a really holistic view of of an airspace. product development because safety is really key and understand system. Safety Design is really Was GonNA make a viable product right and of course. We did talk to a few of the company's traditional national helicopter companies like instrum for example who've Just told us that. They're talking to some veto manufacturers about being able to provide production facility or at least a way of certifying and even Helping them through to the reality of of the of producing the defying an aircraft or at least in a veto vehicle right. So they're really exciting. Thing about electric vitale is. There's a lot of investment money coming in from Silicon Valley another millionaires or other investors which is fantastic to have all this new money coming into aerospace defense money or or big. Oem Money so it's it's new money so they have a lot of really exciting innovative ideas but they don't necessarily know how to certified aircraft or aircraft production facilities so companies like instrument and others. Who are interested in this new space? certainly should be open minded and and look for partners For this kind of new Urban Urban Your Madonna aircraft

California Cities Turn To Hired Hooves To Help Prevent Massive Wildfires

"Are a part of nature. If you have fuel meaning lots of dry stuff and wildland it will eventually burn. People can keep fires from spreading so quickly by removing some of that fuel in advance. You can try a controlled burn. Hired hands can clear it or hired hooves can eat it. That's a bit of Megan. Monagas exclusive interview with firefighting fighting goats. It's lunchtime at deer. Canyon Park in Anaheim California pokey peggy and the rest of the roughly four hundred goods on the Parker hungry. The city hire these good as part of this wildfire prevention efforts to Canada's long and hilly with a few walking paths in the middle of a residential neighborhood this whole embankment meant going up to the homes. This is the kind of departure fee that they go excel in. That's Johnny Gonzales. He hires his good different cities. Businesses and homeowners associations associations across southern California. These goats have been at this park for about five months clearing out invasive plants and brush that poses challenges during these wildfire. That's and when we can go ahead and reduce the fuel loads and take out the invasive plants and established a native plants on these banks view reestablishing the ecology city recently upped. Its contract with Gonzales to have the guts working nearly year round. He's getting so many requests from other potential clients not can't take on all of them. One California town even had a gofundme campaign to support bringing in goods for Wildfire Abatement Anaheim's aspira Marshall Allen Hogue. Doesn't that go part of their fire. Management plans because they have a particularly useful skill where the goats grazed all that off and see the steepness of it. And that's why we use the GO-TO be almost impossible for a human to sit there and walk up and down with a weed wacker a weed eater goats are really good at eating stuff right. That's Bethany Bradley. She teaches environmental conservation at the University of Massachusetts. Amherst the challenge with them. Though is that it. You can't just do it once. They need to go back time and time again in order to keep controlling that biomass. She's the CO author of a study that recently came out on invasive grasses and plants Bradley and the other researchers found that invasive grasses double or triple the likelihood of a fire rang if they're present in short they're very very flammable and they're masters of moving and spreading into places where they don't belong and then a lot of cases like they're already there and the is environments that are going to become better here for them with climate change so they've got like a huge like up on on native plants using goats alone isn't enough though wildfire numbers can be balloon overgrazed areas onto houses and buildings the city of Anaheim says the goats are a key part of their fire prevention plans. But there's just one piece of the puzzle that also includes he sensing satellite images and wildfire detection cameras Johnny Gonzalez who hires out. His goat says that they're not just a tool but something more one of the best comments of our God ought instead. I didn't realize how peaceful it would be the goats here and that's very rewarding in my job where a lot of public perception actually stopped. Stop the use of goats in the early stages and now that the public perception has been opened up and they see the benefits. That's been my greatest reward that the public has had a chance to interact with them. He says the community looks to the goats and asks when they'll be coming back for N._P._R.. News I'm Megan. Menaka in Anaheim California.

that there there's a pick of the week a tip of the week it's I you know little bias but I think it's pretty good site and it's free there's no sign of no charge just there for your perusal and enjoyment and so that you don't ever have to worry about writing anything down while we do the show tech I labs dot com lying to Matt Anaheim California Harman's Hey how you doing I'm great how are you June well so my question recently bought a warehouse and it previously had spectrum twice no problem I'm gonna get spectrum it's fast it's cheap and they did an inspection and they're saying that they need to trench to the building it because they don't want to run it from the my internet from the pole my building and I don't see the point because everything goes in the ceiling anyways so they're gonna have to transfer and then in the run up the side of the wall through the ceiling well I did that not to wait sixty days hi what a bummer so any any by some well I you could talk them into doing something different I mean this is their decision I guess what I would do though if you're in a commercial area in a commercial building is is see if there's other choices because what spectrum it you know they're the they're the cable company but there will be other in and it you know friends are building here we have a six or seven different ways we can go including the incoming cable company Comcast and we actually chose company called sonic net that offers us ten gigabits in and out I mean really nice speed at a very fair price now if I were you I are the are you the only person that physical building silly I I think it's scared like Kay the school building is right for you next okay you might check what what we do is we just went back to the yeah they have a little room where all the internet stuff comes in and you go back there and see what else is in there or you can go you know check online and and see what other commercial choices there are but because you're a commercial area you probably have more choices than you would at home typically a home user has the cable company or the phone company if they're lucky there are other choices but usually if this commercial area there are other choices and by the way that might be some leverage with spectrum because you can always say well no I need it right away so I'm gonna go with somebody else they may find a way to put in off the telephone pole free that would be right you know because I have security cameras up and I need something to attach them yeah before we moved we're in and we just moved into our S. current studio about three years ago that was of course for me the number one question what kind of connectivity do we have what choices do we haven't there were a number of different choices I think because we're also remembers being which I do a podcast network and we're always streaming video and audio of this show and every show I do all week long it was really important we have good high speed upstream internet and so that was a major consideration in choosing a commercial space and we have redundancy so we do in fact have a Comcast contract along with a sign a contract and there's another company it's a concert company because we want to have it's not so much about having more bandwidths ten gigabits per second is more than anybody could ever want but least for now but having something if one of them goes out because nobody's internet's perfect so it's always good to have a little back the plan is worth I think you give you gonna be in that warehouse for a while it's worth checking out other options and maybe what folks you never know but in Lolo Montana hello but Leo laporte the tech Lil my course my question is did but apple over incorporate live listen in to their new this is something that that I I wear hearing is a lot of people love the idea of live listen is feature of the iPhone where you could turn on basically use it as a microphone turn it on and then it comes in through the headphones doesn't work with their parents no I have a look but the it's supposed to so so you go you get at the I'll go I'll walk you through it I haven't picked up put on thinking this donuts to the apple techno use live listen with their pods and then using the power beats pro both of those are wireless Bluetooth headphones that frankly is the only way live listen makes sense if you have to be in a wired headphones it you know one of the reasons you by Lou is alive listen as you you're at a restaurant everybody's talkin in it you put it in the middle of the table conference put in the middle with table you're at a speech put it on the podium having a wired really limits your capability but wireless means you can get as far as ten meters thirty feet away from it to use live listen happens apple says you have to first add it to the control center troll centers that thing that you slide down from the lower right hand corner of your eye phones so go to.

"Hey marketplace tech listeners. Marketplace has a new podcast out now called this is uncomfortable. It's a weekly show out Thursday's about life and how many messes with it. The show looks at things like what happens when one person in a relationship has way more money than the other what happens when work is the thing that makes us cry at work and how to manage all the ways many gets in the way of our relationships shapes our identities and a lot of times defines what it means to be an adult subscribe to this is uncomfortable wherever you get your podcasts. This marketplace podcast is brought to you by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Evan Lyle of rush enterprises is a big fan of Michigan as he put it. The future of mobility is going to be decided right here in the state is a planet dot com to find out why. That's P. L. A. N. E. T. M. dot com. It's BITCON twenty nineteen. The Mecca for Youtubers influencers and there are many many fans from American public media. This is marketplace tech demystifying the digital economy. I'm Jed Kim in for Molly. Would masses have converged on Anaheim California for the tenth annual Vid con where Industry execs and fans they interact with their favorite influencers and of course take selfies with a giant rainbow slide barbecues glittering dream house. People vote lined up early like Valerie Ortega at seven A._M.. She says her daughter WHO's on Youtube as galaxy lunar begged to come from El Paso my daughter Dazzling Ortega is a big fan of a lot of youtubers. So she's helping to meet some important. People try to get her name out there. To <hes> Jesus Kevin Wagner live streamed from the line to Gamer platform twitch. He had thousands of dollars worth of gear strapped to his shoulder. His waist erased my main goal of doing this is a share experiences with people that maybe can't financially afford to go or if they have you know fears of planes or just have social anxiety altogether so that's why I'm trying to do most of community helped me fund this rig covering all of this for the Atlantic is Taylor Laurenz. She says instagram and Tick Tock are gaining ground on youtube among creators at the same time. Being a Youtuber is still sort of seen as a very higher status mark. If you're successful youtuber you're making a lot of money because youtube is still the only platform that offers creators direct monetization so they can run pre roll ads on their videos and get paid. You can't run pre roll ads on your instagram account or your fifteen second tick tock so it's. Harder to get money more directly. Those people have to rely on brand deals which are a little bit more volatile. What are the kinds of announcements or big things that you're going to be looking for this year? I think another interesting thing that's happening this year. BITCON is the influence of China and Chinese these companies. You have executives from Baiju ten cent. There was a big East West Forum actually held at the Mary where a bunch of ten cents executives and other Chinese executives met to figure out how they can stay claim to some of the American market and was such a big deal for the it's interesting they have this whole Morad of APPs and platforms that have reached scale in China and have hundreds of millions of users but they haven't really been able to penetrate the Western market so I think we're seeing more Chinese companies see if there are big American creators they should be working with and also what can they learn from what we have going on over here a lot of controversies these days surrounding you too. How are those things showing up here? It's funny because they're completely. Wheatley not most stories about youtube this year defined as like extremism problems with Algorithm <hes> you know leading to the proliferation of all these outright white supremacist videos getting shown teens feeds and it's funny because here there's is just none of that is very entertainment focused. It's very focused for industry professionals and brands so you have brands like chipotle lay you know Walmart coming bitcon to scout new talent and they aren't interested in the kind of Neo Nazis that are actually the trending on the platform pretty calling Taylor Lorenzo reports for the Atlantic. She says YouTube uses vid con as a space to keep pace with competitors like announcing new ways for creators to make money and now for some related links the vid con experience has already gone overseas with Vid Cons London and Australia next year it will expand to Mexico City. The Hollywood reporter quotes a bid conning. Executive says some of the top global creators have emerged from Mexico in recent years content creators will have a new way to make money announced at BITCON. The S._e._C. has qualified a new crypto currency called props. They'll allow content creators to earn Crypto for the work they do and probably usable across several APPS. You can read more about it at tech crunch and Yahoo and finally youtuber ten emotional had a rather infamous role last year with BITCON BITCON over its denying her featured Creator status that led to her skipping bitcon and announcing her own concurrent convention tennakon was not a success some have made comparisons to the disastrous fire fest well the hedge it has been unburied. Tanna is back at Bitcon this year and happily. She's got that future Creator Badge Stephanie Hughes Produces Marketplace Tech Tro is our senior producer. We had production help from Matt purdy Serb. YouTube looks to edu content to weed out the nasty stuff

"Hiring is challenging but there's one place you can go. We're hiring is simple and smart. That place is ziprecruiter where growing businesses connect to qualified candidates try it for free at Ziprecruiter Dot com slash tech talk ziprecruiter the smartest way to hire we're here in Anaheim California with Neil Mohammed chief product officer for Youtube at bid conned big video online convention. Neil has a bunch of updates for YouTube. We're just going to jump in what's going on Neil <hes> well first. Thanks for having me <hes> Jefferson so millions of people come to the Youtube Platform millions of families individuals etc come to youtube to learn something new could be anything from you know how to fix my. Garage door to <hes> you know. How do I get to be a better reader? How do I get to be better at math to like college level physics or chemistry or a new vocational skill so that I can get a new job and so we're gonNA lean into that and <hes> one of the new product announcements we have today something called learning playlists and the idea here as the name suggests is a playlist of content focused on a particular topic and it's something that's curated by by our youtubers in a way that they would imagine their content being consumed in the global virtual classroom that exists on Youtube and so instead of you know searching for you know Organic Chemistry and being overwhelmed with the search results Ulsan videos that might not be in the right sequence or order? Now you can go to a specific learning playlist. That's been sequenced by an expert in that area and not only is the content organized in an appropriate way. <hes> it's designed to allow you to focus on learning so when you're consuming video from a learning playlists and you leave off it'll go back to that right that same spot in the playlist. Now recommendations will be turned off when you're consuming videos from I'm learning playlist so that you can actually focus on the learning process and we'll be rolling this out gradually because of course <hes> you know there's a really high bar for this type of content and we'll so we'll be starting with a handful of of trusted creators creators crash course Ted Khan Academy et Cetera but based on the feedback that we get will broaden both the set of creators and also the set of topics <hes> so that's that's going to be a brand new announcement in <music>. Are Those curated playlists. They're they're effectively curated playlists <hes> but they're they're curated <hes> by the edge youtubers themselves that built that content so how am I going to find them. <hes> you will so for example back. Go back to my cert- scenario when you search for them <hes> you instead of getting sort of an assortment of videos you might get a link to that learning playlists and that's basically your entry point and the way it would work. Let's say you searched for or a chemistry again going back to my example <hes> that learning playlists might come up in the search result and then when you click on it it doesn't it won't take you to chemistry 4. Are Graduate Level Chemistry. It will take you to one to one and then you and then basically basically once you're there you follow the sequence in in the learning the creator I make the playlist Creator makes the play listen and part of the effort here was to build tools so that they could do that in a relatively kind of quick and efficient manner <hes> <hes> but the other side of it is this experience for our users because I can make a playlist today at any topic I want what's different so the difference is the user side treatment so how it will show up in our search results but also <hes> this this. This concept of kind of learning focused mode is not something that exists with <hes> existing playlist on the platform today so if I'm Creator A and I WANNA do a playlist of whatever the topic how to do plumbing at home or whatever auburn input ten videos together. What do I need to do <hes> so we have a team that works with our edgy tubers and we have actually had a program <hes> called <hes> YouTube learning which has been kind of a pilot program where we've been working with a handful of these actually seventy five of them across <hes> across the world so not just here in the U._S.? <hes> and we've been holding and we've been working on <hes> working with them in various educational events <hes> we had one here actually yesterday in L._A.. Swear we're partnering with them and <hes> Really <hes>. The idea is to reach out to youtube if you're interested in in this we're starting small just to be very transparent about it because. We Wanna get not just the creator experience right but we really want to make sure that the user experiences a high quality one as well and so we can't support <hes> right out of the gate every Creator who's interested in this and so will be gradually expanding spanning this product just like we do with our other products. Neil Mohammed chief product officer Youtube. Thanks as always for sitting down with us. Thank you very much hiring used to be hard. It was and still is one of the biggest challenges businesses his face before it meant dealing with endless stacks of resumes flipping through them and hoping the perfect candidate would jump out at you and the manual review process wasn't any easier but in today's high tech world hiring can be easy and you only have to go to one place is to get it done ziprecruiter dot com slash tech talk with their powerful matching technology ziprecruiter scans thousands of resumes to find the most qualified contenders for your job and actively invites them to apply ziprecruiter is so effective that eighty percents.

"Show. Patriots owner Robert Kraft is among dozens of people named in a human trafficking investigation involving multiple massage parlours in Florida is being charged with the same offenses as the the others. That is so exciting another to commit prostitution Jupiter police chief Daniel Kerr said Kraft would face two counts of misdemeanor charge. He has not been arrested. Investigators said craft appeared on video inside a massage parlor after he had been dropped off there on video dropped off. Why would you do this? You're worth billions of dollars. Why would you do this? Why why in God's name? I you know, what I you like why why does Jessie smollet do what he did why do people do certain things. And the other thing is worth all of this money. There's subtler ways of doing these kind of things isn't there? Right. Isn't there subtler ways of doing things like this? You got all the money. You've got all the connections. You got a lot of stuff. And I know that maybe you know, you've had some paternity issues in the past right with some some some some younger, ladies, and maybe you don't want that kind of thing. I mean, you're worth six billion dollars. You can't figure out a way to just maybe figure something out. I get it. But you got all that money. What in God's name? What are you thinking? And you're on video you're on video that is just. Wow. And think about this. This wasn't like he went up to a Hooker. This is sex track. This is like a human trafficking ring that they were were were investigating. That right. There is it's it's vile and the NFL and Super Bowl week is one of the biggest human trafficking sex rings that go on there. There's a lot of little CD things that people don't understand with a lot of stuff like that for years. It's always known if you if you go to Anaheim, California, you go down by Disney that in and around Disneyland you'll find a lot of ladies of the night. Why because they have a lot of big corporate events that happened in and around there because you've got the corporate center right across the street there on top of that you get a lot of people from out of town. Oh, and this is just this is awful, obviously are

"He's been getting paid for well for a long time stack of paper. Yeah. He's very very active and. So I bet you is really really at peace. You know, where maybe now money's not at the forefront gave, but the more money you make the more money you spend, right? There are some fighter's that number Djilas on one time. I asked him if you got paid a good amount, but you fought the same fighter every single time. Would you do it? And he said, yeah, I rather do that just do it over and over. He goes to that. I don't care just want the money here. Certain fighters are just wired that way, not a daily debate question. But maybe a show show question. You know, five five matchups you wouldn't mind seeing over and over again, if you had to gun to the head you're forced to see these guys fight again and the different different outcomes, obviously like natural era like when they like Lewis and on you. Are you saying a fight that didn't pan out? But I think it would suck. It doesn't matter. Really? I mean, I mean, I I don't know if you'd want to that's even more of a gamble like, for example, like Sunday seem like because I thought I misinterpret I miss her, Dan, I thought he meant a fight that didn't live up. But you think the second time would be gangbusters because God who came back on blades that was the old in new and Louis came back and fought a great fight again or Greek comeback against wolf costs. I can't see that fight. So I guess I meant more like an God forbid, I would not want this fight on either guy because it just seems like it killed them. Whether it was getting to the scale of the fight itself. But you L Romero verse Robert Whitaker, I feel like you. Compare those guys up every time. And you're you're hard pressed to get a bad fight, you go super hipster like I like to bring up Matt grades Dennis Bermuda's a lot. But that was just an incredible. Those two styles just seem to complement each other. Turn out. I was always a good fight when they locked up then in Anaheim, California, Grayson Bermudez, and I cannot my my notes in front of me down written down. I it very well been though. Yeah. That you might have been an MGM grand one. Okay. So what's another fine? I'd wanna see oh how about the as in daily again. I feel like even though short I feel like that's a great bed. I feel like no matter all different ways out could go a little bit Hearns haggard Jimmy have a conversation. Oh, yeah. What's Hagler way? And we said it couldn't be a fifteen minute fight because they only went three at a twelve round. So I had to be a fight that kind of like didn't get out of the first because that's all. Maybe like a little bit out of the first. Yeah. And I threw that one out. I think goes liked it. Right. You approved which one Paul Daley versus Nick Diaz. I threw out a, but it wasn't UFC. But it was a Palomino engaging that because that had a finish in it. And they did battle for a while. Yeah. Yeah. I like yours, and I've seen it brought up Hagler Hearns. I have no issue with it. Although I will say in my round of the year article actually compared Hagler Hearns to the one I had chose which was Cal. Go saunters. Jimmy, Mon Mon Manno are very similar maybe around the difference. But the the the story was set in the first round Hagler and Hearns a little opposite. Where you had the longer the longer precision puncher getting hurt in Manu is opposed to Hagler getting hurt by the longer precision puncher and Tommy Hearns in their fight..
