I get a lot of pucks from my lime mates and just try to shoot it as much as I can and got a little lucky tonight but I mean when you're hot you're hot so I just got to keep firing. "They brought in Chris pronger and Scott niedermeyer's there and you guys have that young line with pat maroon. And somehow, you're the one guy not playing off of that line. With maroon and Perry. How the hell did you get you would have lost some money there? No chance. How did that happen? I tried to go out before the league kicked me out. That was kind of my plan. Those two are going to play until they get tossed out. Now what was that like? You guys are also young, man, not only were you just a young line, but you guys were like so impactful all the way through together, all young. That had to be just so cool. Yeah, it was great. You know what? The nice thing was, is me and Paris kind of obviously got paired together from day one, coming out of training camp. That was coming out of the draft for that matter. I'm pretty sure that was what Brian Murray envisioned when he drafted us. But once we got together, we kind of developed that chemistry of how we wanted to play. And I thought the team did an unbelievable job at plugging guys in there that could fill that void or the role that we needed on that line. Obviously, we started with penner when we won the cup. We needed that another big body where we could control the puck down low and then Bobby Ryan was there for a while and then patty maroon. So those are voids that those guys came in and played important roles on our line that allowed us to control the puck down low and not have to skate too much, so that was always big for our lives. Well, it's a kind of funny, the three guys you mentioned are all the bobbies right handed. They're all kind of that same sort of body frame shape, size and all that. I guess it does fit with you guys, right? Yeah, it turns out the management sometimes does know what they're doing. Well, you'll see you'll see why. Exactly. No, I thought they did a great job, obviously. Those are planned decisions that happen to work out, not everything does, but those were definitely guys that were very impactful in our line. How many times did you look back up the ice? There's a whistle, the play is going back to your end and there's a whistle. There's a penalty behind the play and Perry's lying on the goalie. Like, I already knew where that was going. I'm like, Jesus. I'm doing, I'm doing games last year in the year before, and they're in the playoffs. I'd be looking up towards Tampa's and there'd be a whistle. And I didn't even have to know what was going on, but there'd be gloves and sticks and he's right in the middle of it again. Amazing, isn't it? It is amazing, actually. That he's still doing it right now. Still is. No, it's tell everybody.

"I don't know that I could ever be a head coach, but ward was going to give me shit if he hears this. I might go down that path because I told him to hold him all last year, no chance. There's too much bloody video to be a coach. But anything that I can make an impact, I think, interests me a lot. So I'm definitely ready to work. I'm not someone that can sit around. I don't like to just kind of go through life and go through to the day to today. I always need something to do. So something I can sink my teeth into that I could make a difference. Are you working at all? On a regular basis with the ducks or just kind of right now. No, you know, I wanted to be a little bit more involved having pat verbeek come in midway through my last year. It changes things a little bit. Pat wanted to come in and make some changes and obviously do things in the direction that he wanted to go having a relationship that I had with bob for so long. I'm probably would have changed things a little bit this year, but trying to work through that with pat and build that relationship that traps those kind of things. It's kind of what this year is about. I've been doing some stuff with the promotional side business side sponsorship stuff like that where I can learn a little bit about the business. When you look back at your career, such a fabulous accumulation of numbers and successes and is there one thing that stands out for you, Ryan, that you're most proud of? I mean, probably just relationships I've gained throughout the league and the teams and my teammates, places around the building, that kind of stuff. I really think it's a great way to leave a building. The way that I was able to go out Anaheim understanding that I had relationships with people that were ushers at the building in the valley guys, all those guys, I still go to the rank and say hi to them, they all know my kids, that kind of stuff. Those are things that I really valued at the end of my career for sure. You know, you play it obviously played your entire career with the Anaheim ducks. And I know from my experience with bob Murray, you know, probably in the last three, four years of your career, we would ask the questions when you got into the second half. Okay, the trade deadlines coming. You know, the ducks are heading in a different direction. Is there any chance he'd consider trading or would Ryan gets left consider chasing a Stanley Cup and all of that? Did that ever get to you? Like not get to you mentally I'm just saying, literally did it get to you? Did bob or the organization ever come to you and say, hey, look, get, you know, if you want to chase another Stanley Cup, you let us know and we'll do whatever we can to make that happen.

I don't really think that this game today was a step we wanted to take, but hopefully, you know, we can find a way to make it a necessary one and learn something from it. The former Norris trophy winner has been returning to form so far this season after a turbulent start to its shark's career prior to joining the sharks in 2018, Carlson established himself as one of the best players not only at his position, but in the NHL while playing for the Ottawa senators. "I'm good in that department. As far as preparation, things were a lot different this time around. I had to take the last year off. I've talked a little bit about it, but I had a really bad eating disorder for a few years and then preparing for I had a fight schedule last year in March and I had to pull out of it because it was like at the peat. So supposed to take a year off kind of step back, take care of my physical and mental health. And then now I'm back, so I'm healthy now. I'm fully in everything is perfect. So my preparation was I'm around. I feel like I'm growing up like not only as a person but as an athlete, you know what I mean and everyone's kind of seeing that firsthand, so I'm excited to showcase what a healthy K can do in the octagon. What do you expect the energy to be like? Because yeah, you fight in front of your hometown. This is your first you have some pay per view with fans in attendance. And I believe as a fight card order is set right now that we've seen. You're opening up the show. On the prelims, I believe. Yeah, so a few weeks ago they had me as the featured prelim right before the main card and now they have me opening up, but they also said that it could do a complete 360 again. So I don't know where I'm fighting on the card as of right now. But either way, whether I'm the first bite or the last prelim whatever may be. I know a lot of my friends and family are gonna be there. You know what I mean? So for me, it's a lot more intimate and it's a lot more personal, you know what I mean? Not all the time that you can buy in front of your hometown crowd and all your friends and family can go watch you. You know what I mean? Especially since I've been off for a year and it was like the hardest year of my life and everyone in my inner circle has seen you know what I mean, start from my breaking point all the way back to now. So it's gonna be really personal. You know, really emotional. And I'm really excited for it, you know, I couldn't ask for anything better. I was supposed to be fighting last weekend and then I had them move it to this week and I got myself in a little bit of trouble doing that. But it was for sure worth it because you know what I mean? This is what everyone dreams of fighting in the UFC in front of your hometown crowd. You mentioned, you know, your health, your mental health going into this. It's something we see all over combat sports, right? And sports in general now we have Ryan García boxing. How important is it? That you took and you had that space to take that year off and really focus on yourself. Because a lot of athletes, a lot of people in general, especially young people feel like they can't step back. They can't take time to themselves to get right and get mentally healthy. How big was that for you? It was huge, you know? Like I mentioned, since I was 16, I've dove head in and I was training two or three times a day then, and I haven't stopped, you know what I mean? Until this last year, like after I pulled out, I was forced to take like a month and a half and literally do nothing. And it drove me because just like everyone, everyone has their outlet. You know what I mean? Like, when a frustrated with having a bad day, some people go to the gym, some people play video games, like everyone has their thing. For me, it was training. And when I was struggling in my regular life, whether it's mental health or whatever, I would push myself during training and then I'd come home. And it was like a bad thing that they put together very well. You know what I mean? Especially when it's like you're training like three to four times a day with no fuel, you know? So for me, because she was a young athlete. You want to prove yourself. You know what I mean? I started training at 16 was pro by 18 in the UFC by 20. And you want to keep that going. You know, and in your head, you're like, okay, everything I've done so far has got me here so I'm doing it right. But the matter of the fact is I wasn't. Me taking that step back. It was the hardest year of my life because I went a year without fighting, which is my outlet. You know what I mean? I wasn't even allowed to train for a month and a half out of that. So for me it really forced me to take a step back and now when it comes to training, it's more of like a passion again. You know what I mean? I feel like when you get in the loop of like, it was my therapy or everything in my personal life added up to that. It almost seemed like I was punishing myself when I was like I was overworked and be like, you know what I mean? Make sure I was the hardest worker, but it's like I also wasn't taking care of my body, you know? So in an up crashing. I mean, like I said before, every fight at a professional level since I was 18 with Invicta too, so I've been in front of the camera since I was 18. So everyone has seen me grow up, you know what I mean? People do stupid shit at 18, you know what I mean? But mine happened to be what I'm doing with my body. And an athlete wise. So everyone's kind of seeing me grow up in and out of the cage. So I think it's pretty cool. But definitely taking a step back with your mental health is especially for a longevity. You know what I mean? Want to be, you know, I did like 18 to 22, like two, three.

"I did move out and I got my own apartment. It was cool to be able to do that. You know what I mean? I have one fight in the UFC and I win a performance bonus, and I walk away with 80 something $1000 and a lot of it goes in the savings and then I can like, as I'm making money throughout every month, I'm keeping money in the savings while paying my rent, you know? So it kind of allowed me to finally be completely on my own. You know what I mean as far as financially being set for myself? So that's what I did with that. I kept in the savings and then I kept it. I did buy myself a car too, but I bought myself like an $11 used car. Just like up front and then after that, I just put everything else on the savings. No car payments of financially responsible. I hate bills. I don't know what it is. If it's like a recurring Bill, I hate it. Like I would rather just pay it all up front and see all my money gone out of my account right away, then have to remember to pay a bill every month. I'm super forgetful. Well, self aware, I like that. you know, it seems like yesterday it was your UFC debut. I'm sure, but now you're two years removed from that. So now you've been in the UFC, you know, you've had your first defeat. You have seen you've had success in the UFC now. Do you feel like you're getting comfortable? Do you feel like this fight you bring all that experience in has anything changed and how you prepare from this fight? Because now you have a couple fights in the UFC under your belt. I mean, honestly, before the UFC, I had like ten profiles already. And I have a long career ahead of me. So for me, I felt like I already had some experience coming in, you know what I mean? Obviously having the two fights as UFC experience is cool, but it was also like at the apex, so it was way more low key. You know what I mean? It's like the smallest crowd I've ever thought of in front of so this time is going to be like my first time in an arena because all my fights have been like COVID fights with UFC. So for me, it's almost like this is a debut in a sense. You know what I mean? At least experience wise. Like I have the experience in the cage, but like experience like with the crowd and the walkout and everything. It's finally gonna be like what you dream of. You know what I mean? When you get to the dream of walking out to a sold out stadium, you know what I mean? Especially know that's in my hometown too. It's like everything's coming together. But for me, experience wise, I definitely, I feel like.

I was fine with that. And so that was definitely one of my takeaways from the first game as well as i think a lot of people would get a kick out of it a kick out of having kind of a a new team to follow in a new venue and so you know as you said hopefully next year something and obviously they're gonna have their own arena built shortly for their third season in the american hockey league. But hopefully people get to experience orleans arena and knowledge new bells and whistles at some point here before they pack up and leave for arena number two. I mean they gotta bring how half have like a giant like trojan horse. You know or something going on or like instead of the castle. The there's so there's so many cool things that they can do with that. I can't wait to see 'cause. I know how creative they are and i know how many different things that they're willing to try out in in especially with the theme so like you said i think especially when they get their own arena in kind of. It's it's their hall. They're dealing with you. Know a little bit of the weird sort of configuration of orleans arena. It's obviously not the best for hockey. Got of that open into it Rather than seating always behind the net and all that so it's got a bit of a different feel in that regard. And i think once they get you know the henderson pavilion. Probably more of a hockey environment. It'll feel different but just to go to the hockey side of things too. And so i i will pick on one thing. They have to fix the numbers on the jerseys. 'cause i know my dad's going to go to games and he's going to not be able to read those numbers and be like what is going on it. That's the they gotta have an outline or a border on those number something some that make him stand out a little bit more but just in terms of the hockey light like you mentioned the system sort of trickled down at least in theory and in what the golden knights sort of wanna do is supposed to be. What the silver knights were doing it. And i think we clearly sauce or you know in temple you know transition fast paced style of play. The the silver knights are gonna implement. I think that's mainly the Style if you go back to like juniors and sort of his history is a coach and they've got some talent. i mean. This was a team a couple years ago. That had a good mix of veterans in in younger players. That made a calder cup run. I don't want to say that that we might have to cover you. know calder. Cup playoffs the series here.
