"I'm going to come back and it's going to be fine. Did you have any qualms about that? Were you afraid? I definitely had qualms and definitely was afraid. And definitely gave up on a lot of opportunities that kind of came along that I had to be like, no, I can't do that right now. And it was not easy, but I know it's true. And also I should say, I don't think everybody should get married and have a baby. That's the life I chose to pursue outside of my career. That's the life I wanted. Some people's life is being alone, having a hamster, caring for an aging parent. There are lots of other lives to pursue that just aren't getting married and having a baby. And by all means, don't have a baby. It's very hard. But it's funny. But your son is the cutest fucking thing in the world. Oh my God. He looks just like a real kid, huh? Just the best. No, he's adorable. He's really great. But that's the life I decided to chase. And I was trying to figure out life and because I was chasing that life. I believe that my career was chasing me. And it has always made me feel like, you know, Amy Poehler, Amy Poehler, have wrote a book and in which she says, if you if you were like desperately chasing your career, your career is gonna teach you, sorry. Your career is gonna your career is gonna teach you like a bad boy or treat you like a bad boyfriend. And they're gonna not call you back and they're gonna date other people and they're gonna lie to you. Yes. That is exactly true. And just the same thing as don't quit your day job until you've made it and you're never gonna make it. Like having a life is part of that. You know, like some other interests and yeah, we've seen it all the time. I mean, the first ten years of my life were every single day not going to the vacation, not going to that thing because of that phone and the auditions and I realized, oh my God, I decided to pursue this to live a life. And here I am just as bad as all those people on the 48th floor. So you God, I love the fact that you had this foresight to understand what really matters and to know that it is right. It is the same with all of our friends who decide, you know what I'm gonna take a couple years off. You know what, I'm gonna go back home and connect with my roots again. And they get a call. And they're working again. It's like, that is weird, isn't it how it law of attraction and if you start to just kind of do your own thing, then your destiny kind of knocks on the door and says, come on back. Rather than you know. For sure. And it feels very much like we're either going this way or we're going that way. And this way is I am working towards a career and I'm going to be on Broadway and I'm going to be a star. And this way is I am not at all. I'm going the other way. But New York isn't going anywhere. Move away for a year..

"It's that simple. So <Speech_Male> i said <Speech_Male> what is this biofilm. <Speech_Male> He goes well. When you're <Speech_Male> when you're in <Speech_Male> utero is <Speech_Male> going you're completely <Speech_Male> germ-free. <Speech_Male> You're germ-free environment. <Speech_Male> But the moment <Speech_Male> you're born <Speech_Male> bacteria is introduced <Speech_Male> your system. That's how <Speech_Male> you build your immune system <Speech_Male> and that bacteria <Speech_Male> is part of your <Speech_Male> biofilm. You carry <Speech_Male> it forever and stuff <Speech_Male> as how does it. What <Speech_Male> happens when you <Speech_Male> come out to shoot <Speech_Male> like you hit the air and <Speech_Male> you breed them for the first <Speech_Male> time and he goes. Oh no <Speech_Male> no the bacteria <Speech_Male> you pick up <Speech_Male> you pick up in <Speech_Male> the mother's birth <Speech_Male> canal and <Speech_Male> so i was like wait a second. <Speech_Male> You're telling me. I'm at <Speech_Male> the periodontics. <Speech_Male> I gotta get teeth ripped out <Speech_Male> because my mother <Speech_Male> is still in my <Speech_Male> mouth using. Oh <Speech_Male> yeah you've been fighting <Speech_Male> that sushi. You're born <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> and i said <Speech_Male> what did this hyper immune <Speech_Male> system. It couldn't do anything <Speech_Male> for me. Said <Speech_Male> like wolverine <Speech_Male> and he goes. Well <Speech_Male> wait a second. Do <Speech_Male> you have ads. <Speech_Male> And i lifted up my shirt <Speech_Male> and i said i don't <Speech_Male> have i don't have <Speech_Male> one let alone <Speech_Male> thorough so i said <Speech_Male> no. And <Speech_Male> he said why he <Speech_Male> goes. Well i think a wolverine. <Speech_Male> I think adds. He's <Speech_Male> going but you don't have that so <Speech_Male> you're definitely not wolverine <Speech_Male> and he went in <Speech_Male> and took the teeth out <Speech_Male> and stuff like that. <Speech_Male> Ps the story <Speech_Male> though. Before i had <Speech_Male> the procedure <Speech_Male> he says this <Speech_Male> man he goes listen. <Speech_Male> It's going to be five hours <Speech_Male> and we put you under <Speech_Male> as i can't wait <Speech_Male> and he goes the problem <Speech_Male> is that's <Speech_Male> a long time <Speech_Male> so you might have to <Speech_Male> go to the bathroom and i was like <Speech_Male> i'll go before the operation <Speech_Male> because well <Silence> you could do that <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> or we have something <Speech_Male> you could use. <Speech_Male> And i'm thinking <Speech_Male> like are they gonna. Catheter <Speech_Male> is me for this. Like <Speech_Male> is there a tube or something like <Speech_Male> that as what are you <Speech_Male> talking about. And he <Speech_Male> goes. Listen you know. <Speech_Male> We start our lives <Speech_Male> wearing these. Sometimes <Speech_Male> we end our lives <Speech_Male> wearing these. <Speech_Male> And i was like. Oh you offer <Speech_Male> me an adult <Speech_Male> diaper to get my teeth <Speech_Male> work down. <Speech_Male> No shame whatsoever. <Speech_Male> They just let it flow <Speech_Male> aside. I i can <Speech_Male> hold it. And seth <Speech_Male> like a big <SpeakerChange> boy. <Speech_Male> I held it. <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> on behalf of everyone <Speech_Male> here. <Speech_Male> We're <SpeakerChange> so proud <Speech_Telephony_Male> of you. <Speech_Telephony_Male> <Speech_Male> Thank scott <Speech_Music_Male> is scholars. Proud <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Telephony_Male> <Speech_Male> skyline so scouse <Speech_Male> fully tuned <Speech_Male> out at this part of the show. <Speech_Male> But <Speech_Male> i want to say we <Speech_Male> are. We've run out of time. <Speech_Telephony_Male> You've done a wonderful <Speech_Telephony_Male> job plugging periodontics <Speech_Male> story. And <Speech_Male> but i want to say <Speech_Male> a few things that i do want <Speech_Male> you to come back soon because <Speech_Male> masters <Speech_Male> of the universe. You've <Speech_Male> done a great job adapting. <Speech_Male> You have a new book. <Speech_Male> That i think everybody <Speech_Male> should read. I'd like to <Speech_Male> talk about these likely <Speech_Male> to come back. I'm really <Speech_Male> happy doing clerks <Speech_Male> three. It's always <Speech_Male> such a pleasure. And i still <Speech_Male> have your weed and <Silence> one day we're going <SpeakerChange> to smoke it. <Speech_Male> Okay <Speech_Male> that means the world <Speech_Male> then then. It's still there. I <Speech_Male> watched every episode <Speech_Male> to see if <Speech_Male> it's in the cup the way <Speech_Male> howard shore watches <Speech_Male> every episode of <Speech_Male> could make sure they're still <Speech_Male> using steam music. <Speech_Male> So <SpeakerChange> i've been watching <Speech_Male> thank you.

"How convenient this is keta suppression. So that provision was eventually removed after backlash in walkout by texas. Democrats but still. It's been clear from day. One with this is all about republicans. Admit it they wanna hold on to power in texas and let's also keep mine. Texas is already arguably the most difficult state to vote in even just registering to vote as a hassle. Unlike forty states texas has no online registration. Anyone who wants to sign up voters must be deputized by each county. He or she works in every two years. Which makes statewide voter. Registration drives nearly impossible in a state with two hundred and fifty four counties. Good lord sounds like the directions to one of those board games. You only find an upstate. Bnb's anybody up for game of municipal paper chase up hold on wifi is back on. Who thank god. Second the situation where either ever wanna be deputized as as the nerdy sidekick to an outlaw cop played by bruce willis and the whole movie. I'd be begging him to deputise me. He'd reviews and then at the end there'd be a climactic heartwarming moment. Right before we storm the bad guys hideout where he puts his arm on my shoulder and says myers hereby deputized me to be my deputy. Then yes in this movie. I play myself because it's easier. I don't want to have to remember care. Details like a fake name or a job. I mean despite what you might think from all my flaws impression. I'm not a professional actor. Just a side hobby of mine. That i happen to be very good at stanislavsky. Begged me to teach him. He pleaded with me. Please teach me how you do. Your vince vaughn impression. And i'd say buddy buddy buddy you gotta relax i should. I should admit impressions. Camp was a camp you go to make you stop doing impressions anyway. The rules in texas already clearly skewed to the type voters republicans. Wanna show up to the polls for example under the state's voter i d la a handgun. Permit is an acceptable form of identification but state university issued ideas. Not that's really the whole game. The only way. It could be more obvious if they said you can't use a driver's license but you can use a maga online store frequent shopper card. So those are the rules that already exist in texas now. Republicans want to make it even worse which led texas democrats to flee the state in a last ditch attempt to stop the bills from passing and fox news criticized the democrats for bringing beer with them. Texas state democrats are in washington. Dc this morning after leaving the state in an attempt to block republican efforts to pass a bill making it harder to vote more than fifty house. Democrats got on a plane and flew to dc on monday afternoon vowing to stay away from texas until next month so that republicans can't vote on anything. Lawmakers need a quorum a certain number of members present in order to vote fifty eight democrats. Texas democrats are taking a stand against republican voting bills. By what do they do. They hopped on a couple of private jets and flying a dc. But of course. I fix himself east to show the books and they grabbed the beer case. Miller lite i think. Republicans think it's a gotcha to point out. They had a case in miller lite. So what is the gop. Really going after texan beer drinkers now. Everyone knows real americans. Drink vodka peach shops and cranberry juice. And yeah. that's a sex on the beach as soon in texas a throw down at the hoedown. Now if you're the republicans and you want to dispel the impression that this is just an authoritarian power. Grab the absolute last thing. You'd wanna do is threatened to arrest the democrats who fled the state and yet. That's exactly what abbott did. I can and will continue to call special session after special session after special session all the way up until election next year and so if these people want to be hanging out wherever they're hanging out on this tax payer paid junket they're going to have to be prepared to do it well over a year. As soon as they come back in the state of texas they will be arrested. They will be cabin inside the texas capitol until they get their job. Done surefire way to make clear your the villain in any situation is to threaten to arrest your opponents especially in the south. You sound like boss. Hogg threatening around up those duke boys who i want to do was when i do a cabin damage out of capital but somehow another texas politician managed to outdo abbott in terms of pure shamelessness. And i'm sure by now you probably you guys you you guessed it was what you're seeing. The democrats do here is a political stunt. And i will say it's ironic. Because they were getting on their private jet to fly to washington. Dc they almost surely to show identification to get on that jet and yet they're doing this a fit because they don't want mail in ballots to be verified. They don't want the signatures to be verified. They don't want basic integrity steps to be strengthened in the state of texas. This is at the end of the day politics and they need to get back to doing their jobs. It's not ironic that they had to show. Id to get on a plane. Since unlike voting flying on a plane is not a secret right protected by the constitution. There's no article ten that grants every american. The right to get your elbows slammed by drink cart while the due to cross from us spends ten minutes trying to cram suitcase into an overhead compartment. That's too small. Of course of republicans really wanted to treat flying the way they treat voting than every plane would be forced to idle on the tarmac for hours while they wait to take off. Because there's only one runway open it would be illegal to serve snacks not even sun chips which are barely food. It's like eating salsa flavored packing peanuts. I'm pretty sure there's less actual food and sun shifts in their subway. Tuna republicans have come out and said what this is really all about. They don't wanna lose texas and they're willing to change the rules to stop. That from happening. Couldn't be more obvious. They admitted it. They just haven't succeeded yet. They couldn't pass these bills the first time. They might not be able to pass them this time. So if wanna ram them through. They're going to have to try at least three times. This is better closer. "The governor of texas threatened to arrest democratic lawmakers who fled the state to block jakonen new voter suppression laws designed to keep republicans in power for more on this. It's time for a closer look. I'm sure don't have to remind you that. The twenty twenty election results were for the most part very bad for republicans yes. They won back seats in the house but they lost the popular vote by seven million to democrat who got the most votes in american history. They lost the electoral college in a landslide and even lost several states. That were historically red. Lake georgia in arizona where they also lost four senate seats. In fact biden. His win in georgia was confirmed so many times he turned it into a joke when he was campaigning. There for the democratic senate candidates. Thank you for standing strong to make sure your voices were heard. Your votes were counted and counted encountered again. I've started to feel like. I want georgia three times. One of the few things miss about cova dera politics is the drive in rallies. It's the only time in history will be able to look back and asked. Was he giving a speech or crossing against the light. I know georgia but the sound of honking just makes it feel like new york like he should have been up there with a time square spiderman and a cigarette smoking cockroach can you believe this mets. Bullpen they blew a lead against the pirates. What do you mean i give giant valid. Id stages in the middle of forty second street during rush hour traffic. I want georgia three ties. I don't care if you won. Miss america got to get this s the jfk. I'm sorry did you just call me and ask. Oh sorry pal me over the tv. Actually i'm trying to turn down the taxi tv know how to do that. Hey i didn't put it there. Take it up with cat greenleaf now. The losses in georgia and arizona really freaked out republicans because it meant. The electoral map was shifting states. That were traditionally read. Were suddenly play and the gop's built in advantage. In the electoral college was roading. That was especially evident in texas. Where trump one with the smallest margin for republican in two thousand four years in biden got the largest percentage of any democratic candidates since jimmy carter when the state in nineteen seventy six. A fact that surprise me because everything's bigger in texas but according to this photo jimmy carter's super small. When i was young and i heard him referred to as a peanut farmer i assumed he firmed peanuts but was he a farmer the size of a pena. He's the best. I love him. He's a world renowned humanitarian. Human rights activists. I'm just saying judging from this photo. If he tried to wear a cowboy hat he get lost in it. Rosa rosal help. I'm stalking her again. As a reminder. I spent the last two weeks and impression camp. The point is republicans are terrified of the possibility of the democrats could continue making gains in texas and potentially win the state's electoral votes in future presidential election. They're not hiding it or being shy about. Here's texas. lieutenant governor. Dan patrick at the conservative political action conference over the weekend telling the crowd that if they lose texas they'll lose the entire country in texas. We are last man. Standing there are a lot of conservative red states around the country but if we fall. America falls the electoral votes of new york. California new york combined together means we could never elect conservative republican. The white house ever again. I can tell you that as lieutenant governor of this great state that i'm blessed and honored to serve. We're not ever going to let that happen. Why did these guys always sound like overexcited. Loppers in the park. By order of the queen. I shall not allow this heresy. Come down dan you work at hobby lobby so now though they're just admitting it they don't wanna lose texas. That's what this is all about. And it's one thing to say we can't lose texas so we have to work on our message and our policies it's another to say we can't lose texas so we're changing the rules. It's like subway deciding between actually using tuna or calling. It tunein hoping no one notices so texas. Republicans are afraid that if democrats make gains that they can be locked out of the white house for this forseeable future and they're desperate to preserve their political power in the state anyway they can buy patrick's own emission. Gop success nationally depends on republicans keeping control in texas. Which is why texas governor greg. Abbott called a special legislative session but this month to pass a series of draconian voter suppression laws in texas. The state legislature is set to vote this week on too restrictive voting built. The legislation moved forward yesterday after a heated debate. Critics say that measures unfairly harm black voters the proposed texas legislation includes banning twenty four hour and drive thru voting new voter. Id requirements for mail in ballots and expanding the powers of partisan poll-watchers. They want to ban drive. How can you be against drive. Throughs the pandemic's been nightmare but one thing is taught me is. I love not having to get out of my car last week. I had my appendi- route. And i just left the engine running. There's nothing when we're talking. What was i look right. Definitely glad we we saw the open cut. There's nothing more american than a drive thru. If you asked me not only should you be able to vote via drive thru. But while you're there you should also be able to deposit a check. Your car washed it. Pick up a doritos locos tacos supreme doritos locos taco. Supreme may with one hundred percent all natural beef. That's beef with threes in these bills are obviously designed make voting harder and in particular target black voters for example in an earlier version of the bill would have implemented a ban on sunday voting before one pm because gop lawmakers were targeting souls to the polls the longtime practice by black congregations and encourages members to go vote after sunday morning services and of course they were targeting black voters. What other possible. Excuse could they have. For banning voting on sunday mornings. Did they not want to bump up against everyone's weekly yoga in the park class. Because we're all capable of doing. Both i can get up first thing in the morning to vote and then make my way over to the top of the long time. Did you childs pose linda. I know you're mad. Because i was five minutes late last week and i immediately skipped to cat cow and you said you have to start in child pose. It represents birth and i said oh does it. Linda is that what it represents. Can you tell me more since. This is my first time doing yoga. Linda it was fired. Republicans ended up backtracking and moving that provisions after a backlash although their explanation of what happened was ludicrous. They claim they weren't targeting. Black voters the bill had just been misprinted and nobody caught it when i read what i think is the final version of this legislation that limits the number of hours that account he can have early voting on a sunday which some people will think is targeted directly at souls to the polls black church events Can you tell me why Limiting the number of hours of voting on a sunday would make elections more secure. And actually that's one of the things. I look forward to fixing the most They call it a scrivener's air whatever. You ought to talk to our team yesterday. Kinda regrouping war happened. That was not intended to be reduced. I think there was a call. It a mistake if you want to. What should have been eleven was actually printed up as one first of all eleven doesn't make any more sense in one. Why would banning early voting before eleven am on sunday. Make elections more secure. You guys afraid. The poll workers would be too hung over to detect fraudulent ballots. envision super blurry this morning beer eighty looks good to be mr cockroach cockroach kedah. You've done your head never been insulted in all my life. Which is you all know is seventeen years seventeen years. I'm still in my prime. Oh you gotta be eighteen devote.

Hollywood Won’t Quit the Golden Globes, Despite No Black Members and a Corruption Scandal

"Maybe this'd year's awards ceremony is wrapped in controversy because of the composition of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is the group that gives out the Golden Globe Award. Unlike the Academy Awards, which are given out by the academy that's about 6000 people. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is about 90 people, and they're all reporters. There, guys like me, men and men and women like me reporters that cover entertainment and they're the ones that give, you know, decide and give up The Golden Globe awards, but The controversy is here that it was learned that not a single member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association astonishingly is a person of color. And you know that may account for why movies like the Five Bloods the, uh, movie about my rainy my Rainey's black bottom. The movie about cash is playing Sam Cooke and This meeting of this four legendary black leaders of the sixties. Why why all these movies that are black oriented movies were not even nominated. When? In fact, they're some of the best movies of the year, you know, So there is a lot of controversy about this Golden Globes being exclusively white. S so you know, we'll see how that's gonna play out if if it does at all tonight. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are

"78th annual Golden Globe Awards were the nominees were announced yesterday. For the show That's airing on the 28th of this month with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co hosting for the fourth time. I didn't notice this yesterday, but There were some snubs. Always snubs. There were some snap it up, Dubs Love is dead to me was shut out. Completely. I wasn't surprised by that. I get So I wasn't surprised because I remember. I feel like you guys weren't loving it. I feel like I liked the second season more. Then most people did. But eh, so I'm not. I'm not surprised because I didn't feel like it had the same critical acclaim that season. One did when it felt very unexpected, But I guess I would be surprised just because you think of the total Number of releases this year, which didn't seem like a ton. I don't know. I just feel like this Christina Applegate, especially and Linda Cardellini. They're just So good. There's like so much great. So many great performances out there. I get it if they were nominated in the first season, it's like, OK, we already did you let's move on to the next person Ma Rainey's black bottom, which I just watched last weekend. Did not get a best picture nomination. But Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis did get acting nods. I think that's accurate. Sure it was You know, I know it was. I believe it was a play, right? Yes, And it felt like you were watching a play. It felt very Like what? That's a weird thing to happen. But if you're watching a play, you kind of have a different suspension of disbelief. Sure, oftentimes than you do in the, you know a movie. So, but Violet Davis outstanding. Chadwick Boseman. They did a dedication to him. Also at the end of that movie, by the way,

Snubs and surprises from this year's Golden Globe nominations

"The globe. Nominations happened and boy. They'd seemed a mess. How do you feel hi. How are you feeling about words and being back. I guess i'm glad to have award season back though isn't it. We can discuss specific to these nominations. I feel a little bit like charlie brown with the football because every year we talk about make fun of the hollywood foreign press association. And let's be clear we're going to continue to make fun of them. They are traditionally. It's a small group of international journalists. Who do not have a lot of renown really know outside of the fact that they are in this mysterious priests small group of people. They really like celebrities or their definition of another other thing. We'll discuss and their star fuckers and they give nominations to people they want in a room rather than a merit or at least our interpretation of merit. It seems like to win an award. You just have to go to as many parties as possible and then think the association from the stage. We know that there are always bad. Choices always mysterious traces. We're always like what is going on. Who are these people. Why do we do this. But i would say even for the hollywood foreign press association and even for a film here had some challenges aka pandemic theaters being close and far fewer films released unusual. These are real embarrassing. And i woke up just being like. Are you serious. We have to do this again. Like come on yeah i. It's hard to know we've gone through looking glass or not some of these. I think we're fairly standard and expected in their plenty of movies that i'm sure we'll be talking about when we get to the oscar nominations in a couple months but there were a handful of nominations. What what. I will generously called the surprises. That just took my breath away. That i i think even in my wildest dreams i could not have imagined the fbi concocting so. Let's just talk about them because this award show is happening really soon. It's february twenty eight. It's gonna be hosted by. Amy poehler and tina fey. It's going to be on nbc. And so we're going to actually having awards season to cover for real for real. I think we have to start with the jared leto nomination for the little things. This is probably the single biggest. W t.f of this collection and it's funny because when we talked about the little things on the show last week i think we both walked away from the little things thinking. Jared leto is pretty entertaining in it. And maybe rising to the challenge of this camp script and that being said i. I never considered him. A worthy report surprised to see this nomination. I enjoyed watching him in the little things in the context of the little things which was not a film that worked at all and so at least someone was doing something you know and i was talking with friends about it. There's like a really a nice like vintage. This is bad feeling to the little things that i found pretty comforting. You know it's like it's not like someone just made a twitter thread into a movie on an iphone and like someone wrote a script and they tried to do this old ninety staying. And then jared leto is doing the weird villain and having too much fun with it. It's like i know what's happening here even if it's not working and and i'm glad to have it back. I do not know that it needed to rise to the level of golden globes ovation especially because the golden globes supporting category does not differentiate between drama and comedy in some of the comedy. Nominations things get wild. But that's because you're kind of you're filling it out there some extra slots. A lot of people didn't get nominated in supporting actor. Jared leto like weird joke of serial killer. I think he's right. Can we talk about that for a second. This is dangerous rabbit hole to go down. I have no idea. The truth is. I don't know i think you're meant to believe that he did. Not if you haven't seen this movie. Sorry for spoiling it for you. It's unspoiled in many ways because it has an ambiguous ending of sword. I- i- i- jared. Leto obviously is has won an academy award. He is a very famous person has been celebrated. He's also like kind of a joke. You know like. I really enjoy him as a performer. A famous person. But he's kind of a joke. I mean he's he so Has all of the pretensions. And absurdity of the method actor who sort of you know pulling pranks on his cast members by trying to get into character and so outside and so masking his beauty all the time with these ridiculous roles you know like in the little things that character has like a is is fat and walks with a limp and why it's just pure actually affect nation and the role is actually affectation and the asia was impressed by that or impressed. By the idea of having jared sit in on their award show. But jared. Leto is not tom hanks. For example someone who did not get knocked out.

'Parks And Recreation' Cast Educates Wisconsin Voters On How To Vote By Mail

"Was a beloved sitcom about local government and small D democracy and in that spirit cast members got together last week to give Wisconsin voters a virtual education about voting on behalf of the state's Democratic Party. Two of the show's main actors Aubrey Plaza and Adam Scott, were the elections experts in a few moments we are gonna bring out everyone from our caste to discuss what fans of the show are all dying to hear about. Indepth minute details of Wisconsin absentee voting information right. That's right. Plaza and Scott take through the ways people can mess up when absentee voting like uploading a selfie instead of a photo I deep to request a ballot. Getting mail ballots right is a big issue More than 23,000 mail in ballots were rejected in Wisconsin in April, slightly more than Trump's margin of victory here in 2016. And young people and voters of color see their ballots rejected at higher rates. Amy Poehler, who plays Leslie Knope, the show's protagonist, had a creative way to remind voters they need to get their ballots witnessed. I'm excited about all of us beating each other's witness, that's going to be fun, and I think that's going to be a big ask, I think, and I don't want to like Try to create a meet cute, but I better be some people that get married after their mother's witnesses for these absentee ballots. Tens of thousands of people tuned in to the event, which also doubled as a fund raiser. Well, it was a new way to educate voters here in this closely divided state. The advice is consistent with what Democrats have been telling voters ever since Last month's convention make a plan to vote. Make a back up plan to vote and then make a third plan. How you're gonna vote. Chelsea Cross runs the Democratic congressional campaign. She says Voters should treat October 20th his election day this year, not November 3rd. So they have plenty of time. We don't want them to get a mail in ballot. Fill it out. Haven't be wrong and have that vote not be counted. All this comes as President. Trump has repeatedly made false claims about the security of voting by mail. Cuts to the Postal Service have raised voters concerns about how to safely cast their ballots. Election officials worry that with everything about voting becoming so polarized this year, voters may not always get accurate information.

"It is practicality sometimes you you can't spend the money that you would like to spend or you know you can't move all over the world to make a movie or TV show so you know I think you you do the best that you can and try and be as creative as you can to sort of create that world and try to make just feels as right as real and then the last. Subtlety the added on top of that is what does it do. Or how does it make the character field in that space to something that matches the moment in that story to right? That's right that's right. I do remember on on parks and REC. We used to do this. A Lot. my decorator and I We talked about it many times. She would put stuff in to all of the desk drawers everything. There was just stuff everywhere so it gave the actors an opportunity to really get into their character and to have things to interact with. You know you actors are going to do things anyways but if they open up the desk drawer and there's nothing in it it kind of takes the it'll take them out of character so you really want them to feel comfortable in what they're doing so if you give them pens on a notepad and little toys to play with the you've sort of come up with for their character they get super into it. Amy Poehler used to come up and say oh. Yeah found such insights in the drawer..

"amy poehler" Discussed on Biz Talk Radio

"Amy Poehler. We're talking a little bit more about social media and just what we share and how much we should share. We have an expert on now with us to talk about specifically should see. Eos shared their personal beliefs and political perspectives on social media were chatting with Chris Ruby, the CEO of Ruby Media Group. Public relations and social Media Agency and Chris Welcome. You frequently speak to associations and work with people and CEOs and do workshops and people can contact you on your website to get personal help with that. We thank you for being with us. Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to be here and we're happy to have you so let's just get right to it. Should CEO share their personal belief. Is there any good that could come out of something that could be controversial in this day and age when we're so divided over our political stances? You know, it's a really interesting question. And unfortunately right now, I would say that times are only getting more challenging as this upcoming election years, and you know, I've seen more relationship sort of shattered over political divides and CEO sharing their political opinion on social media sites, whether it's family members Or even colleagues or professional contacts, the sort of traditional hierarchy that existed within the corporate world, you know of employees to boss or anything else like that. It's just those rules are right out the window right now, when it comes to politics, and it seems that every day there is something new, and AH, NIU, you know, explosion on social media perfect example of that. Actually, you know me personally as the CEO, I put out a tweet the other day about the Super Bowl. And my own thoughts on that Now, I never thought that something that I could say would have such extreme political ramifications. And I, you know, I think it was retweeted or something over 5000 times and I just had a mop. Come after me online and basically attacked me for it. And so the question as a CEO is really what is your time worth? And do you want to spend the time to engage in the backlash that your will suffer as a result of putting your opinion online? Those are such good points, Chris because I mean, I think of Colin Kaepernick and people protest ng the NFL altogether, as you say, so it's like you tweet one thing about something that's that's an American tradition. It's basically a holiday, almost the Super Bowl and there's backlash. And I know there have been Super Bowl performers who have been criticized because they agreed to perform. But when it comes to people like that, and CEOs, you've worked your way to the top of something. And they might just think you know what this is What I feel. I'm going to say what I want to say. So, is there a way Is there a place for that? Because if you try to please everybody, you're going, please. Nobody. But you might just have a cache of people who agree with you. And you get new followers and new respect or something. What have you found? What I found theater. Fortunate reality here is that I do think there is a place for some CEOs to share their opinions and political point of views in this country, and unfortunately that is only people who align or are on the left. I think that if CEOs put out their opinions from the left, and those air often applauded and agreed with, right, but if you see that there is a CEO that is going to say something that is more right, leaning that CEO is 100% going to get attacked. So what I have found from working with CEOs of both sides of the aisle here is that there is really room for one opinion, one common vernacular in this country right now, And if you try at all, to veer away from that sort of set narrative, you will be attacked, And unfortunately, that also means that your business is going to be attacked. And CEOs have to really think about. You know what prices is worth to me? And also for my own mental sanity. How much can I take this? Because see, I was thinking about running a business in addition to this firestorm, just for putting out an opinion online. Sure you know it does the dynamic right now, Politically, as you say, the left. People will be applauded. But there's a silent right that people are scared to come out there. Hollywood actors it will whisper and they're afraid, Teo say what they really think that they approve of President Trump or what the right is doing on this and that Because they're afraid that just won't get work. So it is. It's such an interesting time to be looking at this have you seen Have you seen some worst case scenarios where CEOs have shared something, and it's done a backlash. And Chris if there is a backlash should people apologize? Sometimes it looks so weak and other times that they say no. We're saying this and we mean it. That could get even more. Plus, I don't know. What have you found being the expert? So unfortunately, we have all of these CEOs who are not, you know, have never really experienced a Twitter mob before. So they're in this your position. We're unless you've experienced it. You have no idea what that's going to be like with their phone going up for, you know, 24 to 48 hours, So I tend to agree with you that You end up apologizing for this crazy narrative That is so far off course, from what you ever even meant share it, And I don't think that's strong brand positioning or brand message E. When we're forced to make these apologies for messages that we were never even really putting out to begin with. And so I think that's really the challenge When you start apologizing for everything, which is what you know, we see these forced celebrity apologies all the time or force corporate apologies again. I think a lot of those are really written by PR professionals because there Sort of being told by, you know their handler that they have to do this. I'm not sure that in the first place, sometimes those people said anything that was so wrong to begin with, right, But I do see you know what's interesting is people direct message me a lot with their opinions around this, and one thing that I will talk about is that in terms of the question, you asked about CEOs where they get this wrong Sometimes you have CEOs that air publicly making statements on behalf of their company and all of their employees. You know, we saw this with all of these tech leaders. With a gun reform, right? And and these people are saying Wait a second. They're speaking for me, but I don't agree with them, right? And so these employees don't know what did Yu because Yu know they signed up for a job. They didn't think that this you know politics is ever going to be part of that equation. And now the CEO sort of thing. We all collectively feel this way. Well, no, they don't all collectively feel that way. That's impossible to collectively feel that way. If you have more than one employee So maybe they can get away with it. They say this is my belief. This is my opinion. I don't speak to my employees. Something simple like that which they're never going to say right? Because if they're good leader, they should, of course, be speaking to their employees and understood not for their employees. I meant to say, Yeah, exactly. Chris Ruby is the CEO of Ruby Media Group. You can find her at her beautiful website, Ruby media group dot com. She was a columnist and cover social media, public relations and tech trends. So, Chris, we have a couple more minutes. Just what is some of your best advice. When it comes to you talk about CEOs they might be. They've been still themselves in just a specific direction, and they're experts in some capacity, but social media sort of new to everybody. We're getting used to it. What is some of your best like social media? 101 advice for all of us? Sure. So I think my first tip is that if you are ceo, and you've decided that you do really want to put your opinions out there? You may want to sort of create targeted audiences were not everyone can see what it is that you want to stay so that you're limiting that risk and liability every time you're putting that opinion out there, so that would definitely the first step. And I think you probably also really want to think about you know. What are the ramifications of this, My okay. This tweet or this post being used on the cover of The New York Times. One thing that I have noticed that I think most executives don't realise, is many reporters now our polling tweets into their stories, and so they don't necessarily need to get approval for those because when you're tweeting it, it is public, so they're just pulling that directly into their reporting. And so I don't think most CEOs really aware that that is even happening. I can't tell you how many times personally you know, my my tweets have ended up in stories, and I think that's it. First thing that I never reached out to me about that, and you know they're just embedding this tweet in there. And so I think CDC should know that that is a risk. Every time you put something on Twitter..

"Seth chats with his friend at former Saturday night. Live colleague. Amy Poehler. Who also joined seth in a special remote addition of really was set the naming but first a closer now. We're all bracing for very difficult few weeks or months but there are things the federal government could be doing right now to help us through this. Instead the president has essentially abdicated his responsibility and left the states up to themselves for more on this. It's time for a closer look. Pandemic like this requires a centralized federal response you know how. Republicans always complain about big government. Well how sweet would a big government be right now? Because I don't know about you but this tiny government stuff sucks. It's like being on the top floor of a burning building but instead of a catch net the firemen show with a little workout trampoline. Feels like right? Now we've largely been left to fend for ourselves for example for weeks. We were told. That masks don't work and that we shouldn't wear them now all of a sudden the CDC is considering recommending mask usage for all Americans. You might want answers about what you should be doing to protect yourself and others and why the government is changing its position. Instead the best advice the president could offer. Tuesday was this could use a scarf scarf. Is everybody a lot of people? Have scarfs and you can use a scarf. Scarf would be very good. I would say do it but use a scarf if you want. I mean most people have scarfs in scarfs have very good our grades so now. The president is Martha Stewart using a blanket. A bike helmet and Saran wrap you can make your own has met suit homemade pretty great but it's true. Most people do have scarves and no one has more scarves than Lenny Kravitz. So breathe. Easy everyone. Lenny Kravitz is in the clear I mean obviously the man has been preparing for this moment is entire life. I mean look that not only. Can you use that scarf? He could share it with two other people while maintaining a six foot difference. Now it's true. There is evidence that wearing a mask or some other kind of face covering even something rudimentary can prevent a symptomatic spread of the disease. You can wear Bandanna you can wear a cloth. Just don't be a guy who wears a Jason Mask and one it's freaky into literally has holes. Jason Come on man I'm asking is not approved by the. Cdc having you killed Enough People Jason now. The president could have gone into detail about that or any number of other important issues during his briefing on Wednesday but instead he chose to brag about this. Did you know there's another one a facebook? I just found out I'm number one face those very nice. What are you talking about a man? You're in the middle of a deadly pandemic in your bragging about how popular you are facebook first of all. Of course you're popular on facebook. It's the preferred method of communication of drunk aunts and people who still own flip phones being number one on facebook is like. I don't know having the number one album in Belgium. I mean good for you. I guess your album probably sucks and by the way that's not even true. You only have twenty eight million followers on facebook. Barack Obama has fifty three million. I wish someone would point that out to trump because it would annoy the hell out of them enforce the CDC to update its corona virus guidelines. One stay home to wash your hands. Three Donald Trump on facebook but stay six feet away from Barack Obama. We've heard he's facebook friends with Tom. Hanks so his page definitely definitely has it now. The favourite we're currently enduring in the months of hardship ahead. We're not inevitable. Hundreds of thousands of people dying a national lockdown. That is disrupted daily life. None of that had to happen. I mean just look. At countries that managed to successfully contain the crisis countries much closer to China the source of the outbreak like Taiwan Taiwan. Just off the coast of mainland China. Millions travel between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. Johns Hopkins University had predicted that Taiwan would have the second most covert nineteen cases in the world but today there are eighty countries and territories with more than Taiwan's three hundred and twenty-nine cases succeeded in containing cove nineteen starting at a rival and the first step. Taiwan took was identifying possible cases. Lee told authorities. She had a cough in the last two weeks. Security escorted her secondary screening. She had her temperature taken like this woman. And she got a cove nineteen test at the airport. Taiwan uploads these results into its national healthcare database. After her bags are disinfected. Ride home is in a government provided taxi by herself. One phone APP allows Taiwan residents to find stores with masks in stock. Another APP provides information. And all of those who are covert nineteen positive where they've been in their case histories. Holy they take your temperature. Give you a test disinfect. Your bags a ride home and tells you where by mass send you? Get six months a showtime free of charge according to yourself. And don't come out until you've watched every episode of shameless. It's certainly better than what our government is doing. Compare that to when you arrive in an airport in the US close anyone comes to taking. Your temperature is when a TSA age and gives you a full cavity search because you accidentally packed a bottle of shampoo that was larger than three point. Four ounces or you don't WanNa look at Taiwan Take Iceland another country. That's using advanced strategies to track a nice lake cases of corona virus including detective work for the past few weeks. Detective guest has been chasing down leads and pursuing suspects. He's on the hunt for covert nineteen where he and dozens of other detectives tracking every single case of corona virus in the country. As quickly as we can we have to read everyone that might have been in contact with someone who is positive and tried to stop them before they get in contact with more people. The literally have detectives tracking down cases. Not only is that an effective method for containing the disease. It's also a great premise for a netflix crime. Drama starring Kenneth Branagh as detective. Guest your Monsen. Hey Kenneth so excited to be working with you. Have you worked on an Icelandic accent? But I think I'll just use my British accent. Yeah but it. It takes place in Iceland so everyone will have an Icelandic exit new. I think everyone else should be British to Kenneth. WoN'T THAT BE WEIRD? I'm sorry friend. Those are the Kennedy Brennan Rules and that was an extended bit for people who have seen. Bbc's production of the Swedish Crime Drama Wall Lindor. Hey the addict shows are going to have some deep cuts. Everybody dimsdale rules but who are the biggest takeaways of Iceland's approach? Is that by aggressively testing? Everyone they've been able to avoid having the lockdown their entire country. The way we've had to it's very important to tests are very aggressively. We put those who are test to test positive in isolation and we do contact tracing very aggressively also put all contacts in in quarantine. And it's interesting. That more than half of those who we diagnosing now are actually in quarantine one of the diagnose which means that our policy of quarantine is probably very effective in minimizing the epidemic. This is a lot authorities head to delay the closure of bars and restaurants like in many other major cities. Some stores remain open. People still walk the streets and explore the GREYTOWN doors. They still go outside. And they're outside is awesome. They have lagoons and volcanoes the closest thing we have to a lagoon here in the. Us Is Disney's typhoon lagoon and nothing's germ city they should call it typhoid lagoon so in Iceland. They get to go outside. Meanwhile in New York to go outside you have to wrap your head scarves and swerve into the street to keep a distance of six feet from people on the sidewalk at this point. You're better off. Just hitching a ride on the back of a garbage truck. New Yorkers aren't used to avoiding people they're used to bumping into people that's why the line and midnight cowboy was. Hey I'm walking here not hey. I'm trying to maintain a safe distance of at least six feet here. And then they're South Korea which had its first case on the exact same day that we had our first case. They deployed massive nationwide testing the tracking contain. The spread of the disease as Fox News found out on Wednesday when they invited Dr on who was much more critical of the trump administration than they were probably expecting. Now what we hear every night. Is that the tests that there are millions of tests available and yet when we don't have that pinprick blood tests that you can just sort of get at your local doctor and no one fifteen minutes but yeah they're working on it they should have no working on it for months. So the fact is we knew about this from the. Who Went December thirty first? Two Thousand Nineteen so last year. We knew about this. We needed this months ago. You look at Korea Korea South Korea and the US had their first official confirmed case on the same date January nineteenth. I mean since January. Nineteen you look at what? South Korea did what we did there. Population is one sixth of ours. Look at the cases they have looked at the mortality. Have it's a trifle compared to what we're dealing with right now because we've had a very weak response and they had a really strong response. All Man Fox News viewers never hear that kind of real talk. You asked the wrong doctors. That's like asking your weird uncle of San Israel not real. He's just construct of consumer ristic system designed to Milton brains before you learn to think for yourself. Oh gotcha some scratchers. Also I love how long he shakes his head while she's repeating trump's talking points they put that guy in a box on the screen during all of trump's press briefings. This is a flu. This is like a so South Korea's contain the outbreak with aggressive testing. Meanwhile here in the US. Our president said in a conference call with governors and he hadn't even heard about problems with testing any system in place adequately identify and.

"amy poehler" Discussed on Parenting Roundabout

"We talk about parenting issues but once a week Catherine and I like to get together to discuss. TV movies books and other entertainment topics. Yeah because it's nice to talk about something other than parenting for Change This week we're going to finish off a west wing to partner with election election night part two but first we're GONNA talk about making it making it is a show that started last year It's a competition for Makers people who do crafts mostly or woodworking or really all sorts of different things and and It's hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman from parks and REC so of course automatically we love it and I think we really enjoyed the season last year. We we had some quibbles but it was fun and the person we wanted to win one so that was great and now here we are a year later later with season to which they are doing instead of on a weekly basis on a daily basis. it's going to be four days this week and an-and three days next week with a two hour finale right the whole thing is going to be over and done with in two weeks and perhaps because of that I mean I know. Last year's was pretaped also. It was made very clear a number of times at least in in people's instagram posts. Or whatever that the thing had already finished in somebody had already won it but it wasn't quite so obvious this time they're really leaning into it all like the the bumpers the intros and stuff like that are all showing things that we're going to be saying the competition so that's weird to me any. It's weird to watch a competition show. That's already been decided. Considering most of the judging shows we've watched maybe that would be a good idea. Maybe take sit down and say okay. This is GonNa win. Let's work backwards right but You know usually they least try to make some suspense mm-hmm or some idea that it could be anybody's thing at the beginning right which I mean it was when they were filming it so it's just a quibble. It's just just a little jarring to me. But they have a very appealing bunch of makers I think with a lot of different styles and I really liked this group. I like the stuff. They were doing Last year I really was not happy with the judges. I didn't like a lot of the things they said I. He didn't like a lot of their decisions. And then I was following all the makers on instagram and wants. The competition was over. They were all singing. The praises of the Judges Nice. They wore how helpful they were. Clearly lots of stuff was going on off camera. Yeah that made me feel a lot. Better about them And that just what they shows to show made them look like jerks so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt this year. That and then today Louis Gentle today a yeah I mean they were very positive. I thought in general they were. Yeah it was so positive that when they said something not positive to somebody I thought made it seem even that much more harsh because like you know if you if you're just praising eight of them unequivocally and then say to one person but we're expecting expecting better. Why are you being mean to her right? It's like giving one person sit tens when he makes yes. We're we're still smarting from dancing with the stars apparently But the first challenge is very cute. They're all making different kinds of foods. I I thought all of them were just adorable and very nicely done. Yeah very interesting. I was happy for the kid to winners in nineteen year old kid in this competition. Who is excited to meet Amy Nick as I would be and just very cute and very sweet? I wish he hadn't played the bullying card on the first episode. But you know you never know how long you're going around right. There's only six get seven. Well it depends. I six seven seven or eight depending on how you count the finale right. What I you know I'm on team him. That's just just have the nerve to come into something like this at that age. Good for him So he won that first challenge and then the second challenge is to make something reminiscent of their childhoods. I guess and one person made a credential Danza and one person made a share and one person made this giant shoe structure The kid made made a lemonade. Stand those big projects like were huge. That seems how much time do they out to do. That's impressive in in that that they sent home it was because she totally ran out of time. She just been off way more than she can chew. She could have done the same project project. Yeah on a smaller size. Yes the flesh it. Other people built furniture. She could attach a bunch of Clothes pins in the same amount. It was like five thousand clothes pins I mean she put up a front. It's this is. This is shows my complete fleet lack of knowledge on certain things would seem to me like building a credential or a chair will take a fantastic amount of time take more time than than fascinating even even five thousand clothes pins. I loved by the way the fact that everybody was helping or yes. That's one thing I like about this. Show what they seem to all help each other. That's it's a really fun part of it and then somebody like Mehta laid. I mean I guess. The weaving takes time. But you put up a woven wall hanging next to do. Have I mentioned a credential. It doesn't seem to be an equal amount of effort but then again I guess if you're a woodworker it's weaving. Something would take an incredible amount of effort right. Although woodworker lady has been doing it she keeps mentioned. She's only been doing it for a short while so uh-huh and she's an engineer for her day. Job Yes yes these beaming interesting way. Jobs fighter jets so of all the most of the stuff at the in the second challenge was really cool Even the clothes pin thing would have been really cool if she could have gotten it all done right And and the thing that one was fine it was a room divider her. It was cool looking but I was. I was a little surprised. The lender welcomed by it But apparently it may be one of those things that in person it looks more impressive than it does on TV. It'd be there were textures. That didn't really come out. Let she seems very nice happy that she won but but yeah some of the other stuff was crazy and yes the little robot things that was very cool cool instagram account. That guy his wife isn't it wife. I think it's his wife Anyway I enjoy one thing. I recommend people if you're watching making it and you're on instagram. Follow all of the makers It's really fun to see their see a lot of their stuff and see their personalities and they're all so excited to be on this thing and then afterwards you get to see you you know you get some light behind the scene stories about it. So that's something I did last year and really enjoyed it and I'm doing again this year so this was a good start. We're GONNA talk about it again next week. After we've seen I guess three more four more episodes and that will be interesting to we'll have some ground to cover it but he's like you can come back for a second season but get it done within a two weeks because that's kind of maker thing make all season in just two weeks and once again lots. Lots of a nickname acuteness It just it seemed like a very produced our television rather than sort of a scrappy. Let's let's all try to build something. It's clear that they've had all this stuff in the can for a while so they can pace it in they. Can you know show their clips and all that stuff. So it's very entertaining. I enjoyed it and it's fun to a name for all she's back within does strobe. Gordon Yes yes. They're both very cute. So welcome back making it from that happy fun. Show the transition to the west wing election night part two which is like the saddest possible year. We one episode angerer. Oh my goodness so much sadness. I see why they decided they couldn't possibly have Santos lose. Because wow that was just like you know. How long is this show? It's like you know three quarters grief and one quarter triumph. Yes Oh man and you even had to feel a little bad for Vanik lose. Yeah assuming the triumph was a bummer to some degree right so you can just barely there. You Know Sliver Kluber thin triumph womanly for the grace of denic. Being an unrealistically upstanding politician. Right wasn't even a win. Yes USC most other ones would have been laurie. Lawyering up right and we're not already were. Yeah I mean not necessarily wrong to either. Yeah exactly because it was very very tight and you know the UN uncommon incident of the vice president passing away away while people are still voting is certainly might be open to in education but Wow I just I watched this Thanksgiving and I'm like this is not. This is not a good holiday episode episode for walking and watching a dark room. I'm on a rainy day. And just being openly. Oh you know just every you know Josh Finding out and cj a hearing the news and and being upset. And then you see Margaret and then St Jay has to tell the president twice. She had to tell the president twice. She had to tell him once that hospital in one right. Yeah shed is calling people and oh man it was you know Donna telling Josh City Him. And my Gosh airy lash out of the whole thing being a picture of Leo and how Rame Teary Eyed Ryan and I mean Donna. Having to tell Josh that Liotta Liotta well I guess she was just telling him that. Leo was had had heart attack. You know after. She'd already had to tell him. His Dad died the last time. Oh you know. He's had a well one of the last times they won. Something's just just ran. Stay away from Josh on. When he's doing well with the grace? s You know you got the nomination. All Your Dad died. Well you got the presidency whoops you got shot well when you won the presidency again but.
