"Six technically Playing for the first and only time moving forward for the trophy, usually awarded to the Western Conference champions. The Vegas Golden Knights in their third Stanley Cup semi final round in the four years since they've been in existence, had a tall task ahead of them. The game would be a 21 Montreal lead deeper. NFL Draft: Players Selected in the First Round

"With Aaron Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay, according to reports a night that ended with pick number 32, the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers going with AH, linebacker from Washington, Joe try on and there's a lot more to come. And there was a lot that was jammed in between those two big events. I thought it was really cool to thieve. The number of Alabama products six of them in the first round, which ties the record set by Miami. Back in 2004. I was thrilled to see Devante Smith go at number 10. Overall, The Eagles actually moved up to get in which I think is neat and they traded with E. Dallas Cowboys, their NFC East rival to grab Devante, and he's impressed me not only on the field, but off the field as well. Patrick's or Tan Hey, was sporting an incredible pink suit, though, is a lot to like about what we saw with the Alabama contingent. But also did you know it's the first time in any NFL draft that seven Players from one side of the ball were taken with the first seven picks in a row. Seven offensive players Bing Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing Bing Bing, first time that's ever happened where one side has had the first seven picks in a rose. There's a lot to

MLB To Try Experimental Rules This Year

"So here are some of the experimental rules that Major League baseball's tinker with this year. The minor league level. I think I'm about to say, like experimental drugs to help you deal with this situation. With the bank. So Major league Baseball is going to try. 15 2nd pitch clock. Let's start here. I mean, they've already been trying to tinker with this for a while. Pitch clock in the minors and trying to get this into the major leagues and the major League Players Association doesn't want it. But that's nothing new. I think it's a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with a pitch clock. Making sure pictures move quicker. Batters move quicker, and if you don't if you're not in the box or the pitches in off by 15 seconds, it's a ball or a strike, depending on the picture of the hitter. To me. I love the pitch clock. What do you think I do, too? It's just odd to me that here we are 2021. I feel like we've had the same pitch clock conversation for about five years. And I know the players association doesn't want it. But I don't even know why this is even being written about it. Still tinkering was they're changing the amount of seconds But we've been there. Done this with the pitch clock either. Make it happen, or don't Mortgage Ames govern to buying Elektronik Strike Zone So there was some light tinkering the last two seasons, I think, and now more expanded use of the Elektronik strikes only robot umpire now the way that this is Being implemented. It's not. There is a robot like Judy Jetson behind the plate or not. Judy Jetson, who's the robot from the Jetsons, the maid? Whatever the maid was. It's not like that's the robot behind the plate. It is an electronic strike zone and that a human empire behind the plate gets the read either Baller strike and calls it I guess they do have final say that the human Um, can override it but that he is getting fed the information from Elektronik Strike Zone again. I like this is well, considering how Much of a discrepancy There is with human Empire's I'm on board with this. What do you think? Well, two things number one. It's Rosie. The robot is bogus. Always out objections. I'd love the idea of robot umpires. My only question is when you start giving a guy like Angel Hernandez, let's say a chance to override Do empires. Egos get in the way, and they just don't care with robot is telling them And also is this going to be done quick enough where it's not going to slow down the game. All right away. You get something you're going strike Paul, and whatever Rosie the robot voice, and then they have to make that split decision whether to override it or not. I just I like the idea. But I think you're also giving umpires a chance to allow their egos to get in the way and make their own calls

"Amy Lawrence, when you drive in the left lane below the speed limit and will not move over so the sinners can feed by. Just let us go. You want to drive grandma style and hold up traffic. What are you doing in the federally or the right hand lane, but your force people to go around you. Some of us actually had places to go. I mean, you might not have a care in the world, but some of us that places to go. This is after hours with Lawrence In addition to that, being one of the situations that creates road rage for me. Keeps driving in the left hand lane and going super slow and not caring enough to move over or even noticing Really something else that drives me. Absolutely batty is when you're on a three later, four lane road. And there's one car in every single lane all going the same speed. They're all going the same brick. It's be. It's like they're forming a barrier. On purpose. To prevent me from getting through. It's unbelievably annoying. However, I did say no, I didn't live up to it. But I did say that after not driving my car for essentially three months. In fact, I one of the highway maybe twice in three months during the spring and early summer last year that I would never have road rage again. I will say that even though I haven't stuck to that I do have better perspective when I'm on the highways. Just not when I have a place to go and people are poor. Mostly blocking me from making any progress. You may have seen the reports that kind of sprinkling out over the last couple of weeks ever since he got the starting job, despite the fact that they were three and three in Fitzpatrick. Is a guy that really brings a lot of energy and great leadership. The reason they went to to, uh According to reports, it's because they want to know if they need to go back to the draft. And start looking at quarterbacks or to a can be the man moving forward and considering the number of times the Dolphins have been hit or miss on quarterback since, say, I don't know. Dan Marino retired. They want to make sure they've got the right guy. And so yes, there right in the mix in the A, F C and now are above 502nd place in the East Division ahead of the New England Patriots. When was the last time we said that? But they want to know if to Ah can be the face of their franchise or because they've got some high draft picks Houston being one of those right they had Houston's draft pick in 2020 and Houston's terrible Right now sitting on one win, and so it could be a really high draft pick. I cannot claim that I've been road rage free since I started commuting again or since I've gotten back on the roads again. But those seven weeks that I went without driving at all except to the grocery store and back the seven weeks during the pandemic where I did not put gas in my car That was in March in April, I soar no matter what, that I would never get upset about traffic again. Ah, it's good to get to a Friday morning, Andi. I hope that you have fun plans for the weekend. Even if it's not crazy. It's not travel. It's not something that you might have done any other year of your life. I hope it's something you're looking forward to. I have got my first beach day planned. And so, barring some unforeseen circumstances, which gosh isn't that pretty much to find 2020 unforeseen circumstance? Let's hope there aren't any. Between now and my beach Day on Sunday bright and early I will be on the Jersey shore. In fact, I'm one of those maniacal people, so I am not a great morning person and less. We're going to the beach. And then I like to leave about the time The sun is coming up, but they believe have Ah, ah friend, former neighbor who is also maniacal about the beach and likes to go early as well. So looking forward to that And in this spring and summer in which there's not been a lot to look forward. Tio, this is got me all giddy. If we stay on schedule this time next week, we will have to baseball games already in the books. I am resisting the urge to yell or to say, boom or to go. Whoa! Because I told you I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic. I know that there's a chance the other shoe to drop the proverbial other shoe. I love shoes, but that phrase ruins it for me. There is a chance that something could derail the whole thing. So I am Optimistic but cautious. Tom Brady. What did I just say? We're going to not get over. Exuberant too. Please. Could you imagine what What happened to Tom Brady? If the football season got cancelled? Just go there for a second. The man would be devastated. Yes, there will be a lot of people that would be upset. That would be angry. That would be just Yeah, depressed. Brady. I don't know if the man would ever be the same, he might not recover. Look first. I actually think Richard Sherman would enjoy the drama. He loves drama. He likes to be in the center of the drama. He likes to describe the drama with words like Poop fest. That was a tangent. I don't You know how I got to that anyway, this time next week. We could have to baseball games in the books. Do I know where the nationals will be playing their home games? Nope. But Scott Miller, National baseball reporter for Bleacher Report, he joined us earlier in the show from San Diego. He has an idea. And we're going to bring back a part of that conversation. A little snippets. So much good stuff with Scott. You have got to listen to this conversation on our podcast. What? Maybe you hate baseball right now, That's great. Listen to it any way it gives you so much information that honestly, I hadn't heard anywhere else. So we'll bring back a little bit of that, including when I asked him about the nationals and where they might be playing their home games, So that's one thing we don't know. We also don't know. Dave. If the numbers the testing, the positive rates are going to remain is low, But right now the signs are really positive. I'm telling you hockey, basketball football, They would all take a rate as low as what baseball has got so far through these these first few stages of summer camp. Okay, so we're getting closer. I'm more optimistic with every passing day. In Major League baseball. They're inching forward. They are. Going through. They're testing. They are now doing not just interest squad games, but going to be doing some scrimmages soon, so that's really cool as well. Some of these games are now being carried on TV. If you want to bother Obviously they're not games that count, but it's kinda like pseudo spring training, late spring training, preparation and good news for Mets fans or just fans of pitching, great pitching, I'll think a pitcher's duel over Ah, home run Derby any day. "After hours with Amy Lawrence predictions their guesses so often we have seen the story lines that are nothing like what we expected the brilliance of sports I mean there's so many storylines import your after year after year that kind of smack of by the head of that's my favorite part they continually surprised me every time you think you know we don't know this is after hours we that is so true about sports in twenty twenty really supported anytime but it's never more appropriate then this year this spring summer and fall spring summer and fall a year unlike any other and just like the rest of the world sports a microcosm of real life and sports are having to more for the adaptive changing habits and navigate and honestly dial back expectations at every day that's happening more and more we're seeing sports react to the fact that here we are starting the the month of may first full week in the month of may and there's been no green light though there are now states and communities around the United States that are slowly slowly re opening in the state of New Jersey on Saturday parks and golf courses reopened the we've been threatened by the governor if we do not abide by the rules of distance thing and so I went early early penny and I were at our local park our favorite park on Saturday morning at seven thirty and there were probably ten to a dozen people there is a huge park so very spread out you don't have to go anywhere near anybody else but a couple runners couple of people sitting on park benches a couple of people walking dogs a sheriff's deputy who was parked there and they did have a bunch of the lots roped off so they were only going to allow so many people to get there and my brother and sister in law my niece said the same thing about about hiking in Virginia over the weekend the parts were actually open but the trails are open so you could park your car in the lot you don't have to pay to get in but you could walk in you could hike in in people getting out on the golf course more in some places restaurants are now re opening as long as your lead I'll just use this number twenty five percent capacity or less I I think that's a my mom mentioned her county is that they're starting to have restaurants re open until we're inching forward depending on location and the impact of the pandemic and and how the hospitals are doing and whether or not the numbers are coming down and there are various phases and each governor and each municipalities they're kind of on their own their own little island so to speak by the federal government is allowing states and and communities counties to decide what is right for their own people which is very smart you can't have one fed government deciding what is so different all the way across the country and but what's happening in New York is not the same as what's happening in Alabama not the same it's what's happening in Michigan not the same as what is happening in Arizona there's no possible way to do it to have one formula or one size that fits all but that's starting now what we're seeing it so when is it okay for sports to get back a lot of the commissioners the leaders in sports will point to the testing when it's available I gotta tell you this is something I had never seen and I do I don't really know the reason why but I was really surprised to see it I live in a town where there is a drive through testing facility and it's sponsored by a local vendor here who is providing free testing and the first few days that it was open and then even up for the first couple weeks it was open I never was up there at the time when they were at when they were testing people because I sleep during the daytime but you know people complaining the traffic in the cars they're backed up on the main road in la la la la la and when I walked by yesterday at noon there were medical medical technicians that were there under the tents in the parking lot but not one car waiting not one car not one person there to get tested even though there are probably I don't know seven eight medical technicians who were there today to administer the tests no cars I was stunned I think that's good news that's got that can't be anything but good news that there aren't people who wanted to get tested yesterday at least not in the area and I hope that's happening around the country as well and so as we enter the month of may sports are waiting and and they're trying to decide what it's okay to go when do you get restarted when do we have the green light when do we know that it's safe for our athletes but also do we know it's safe and for the people who are working at these games who are working at the facilities where the games will be held the the coaches the general managers out the other people that are not athletes world class athletes and so it's it's a sticky situation it's difficult to navigate because there is no blueprint there are no right or wrong answers there's file by error and and moving forward with the all of the information that they can gather from the medical community from the health care officials I mean there's there's a lot to consider an endo concrete answers as I've said all along for the last six weeks it's the question with the impossible answer when and then you throw in the how ANC the how much and the what and the where and it it's extremely convoluted but we are in may and I have hope for the month of may it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio we are now starting week seven from the after hours super secret home base in fact this time exactly six weeks ago I knew I was wrapping up my final hours CBS sports radio headquarters and I didn't know for how long ago I think it is a part of me that Miami Dolphins looking to move the 5th pick

"I speaking of trades that seems to be one in the works among the top five picks according to Miami Herald columnist at NFL insider are mondo sell sell kero you've got the lion's that could be taking that dolphins ticket number five with the dolphins we moving up to number three well that seems likely because it's really unlikely you'll be awed the dolphins would keep both of those picks number three and number five but when he last tweeted which was not that long before we went on the air he said according to a source familiar with the lions they're planning to pick at number five as opposed to number three which is where they set in the draft order so we'll keep an eye on that of course and then we'll see what else unfolds the at the dolphins reportedly are investigating all the options whether moving up weather moving down if they're trading with Detroit with the more likely that they're leapfrogging up so that they can take the quarterback they want as opposed to waiting and seeing whether or not he fall to them at number five so kind of a defensive move

D. Watkins the replay operator was doing it on his own he was going to sign sequence says when he noticed that the opposing team the pictures started using different sequences then he would change the scouting report he would pass that information along to the players now rob Manfred says both the players didn't even know you need to realize that half the time we're completely oblivious and it really only mattered ninety percent of the time because it was very specific situations that was out with a runner on second base I mean that's a runner in scoring position so it can matter do you still have that element of how much it actually it actually affect the red Sox that year but it wasn't the players banging on trash cans in the moment it wasn't orchestrated by the bench coach who was all in it was a completely different situation and if you believe the commissioner this was a man gone rogue I'm telling you I can't help but draw the parallels with the patriots and they're they're a quipping guys John Jastremski Jim McNally they disappeared off the face of the earth thank you for a little bit like Steve Bartman poor man never to be heard from again they could all be hanging out somewhere on an island it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on Facebook Todd says the punishment is just right John I don't believe the punishment fit the crime but the problem is the punishment that was assigned to the Astros set the bar and yes I don't feel that fit the crime either now John doesn't say if it was too heavy and have to your if it was too light but we are definitely looking at this through the lens of the Astros and how heavy handed the commissioner was with them so if you're comparing the two and you're looking at it through these reports the commissioners clearly indicating that the Astros again as an organization were all in that everybody knew about this from top to bottom other than the owner somehow but that the general manager was responsible the manager was responsible something else that jumped out at me.

Don't have a lot of details, yet, I did see that the other driver of the other vehicle that they ran into her the that they crashed with was a sixteen year old so still waiting. For more details. Not that it makes the loss any easier to stomach or to understand he and his wife in the early fifties. I believe, and then the, the loss for the Wisconsin basketball team. And, and so it's, it's a sober morning for a lot of sports fan, bases and communities because it was a tough weekend Bart Starr, being part of that. And you know, it's, it's easy to say, oh, he was eighty five. He had a great life. And that's certainly the case. But for his family, and friends, even when we think we're prepared that loss, and those emotions can be so difficult. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio on this Memorial Day, I want to thank those, those families, and friends and loved ones who in losing men and women that they loved who are served in our military. They also made the ultimate sacrifice is not just those who died, but those who loved them. So we think of you, we honor and salute you on this Memorial Day over one million American servicemembers have have paid that ultimate price in protecting us in defending us in preserving our freedom. And, and making sure we have those liberties that sometimes we take for granted have to be honest about that, for sure. So I hope on this day, we do not take.

"It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. We certainly have seen the NBA defending champs uncomfortable situation. Already in this postseason. Here are the Washington Capitals facing a winner take all game not foreign to them. I mean, this is a capital team. The core of whom has been through pretty much everything you can possibly go through over the last several years from being the king of the regular season the presidents trophy winner to being unseeded unceremoniously dispatched way before they were supposed to be based on their potential and also a team that last year won ten road games on their way to their first Stanley Cup title. However in. Carolina in Raleigh. So far there. Oh in three on the road in the series. They did win there during the regular season. But could not do it engaged. Never six to close out. What would have been the end of their first round Stanley Cup playoff series? It's after hours on CBS sports radio inside that arena. It has been crazy this entire series though. There was also a moment that I think many Capitols fans will point to certainly that Washington. Coach Todd Reardon and Alex Ovechkin are pointing to in the aftermath. This was a goal that was waved off in the third period. So it was about oh halfway through that third period. And you've because nets off looked like he had tucked up the puck underneath the pads of the goalie, and then you have Alex Ovechkin kinda comes crashing in and makes contact with the goalie. So after the puck is already crossed the goal line and everybody celebrating the capital's. Anyway, you have the officials waving it off. And saying no way because Lovie interfered by pushing the goalies, Pat, so it was ruled goalie interference even after a review if you can read lips it was really obvious. What Ovechkin was saying from the bench, and he continued to hound the officials during the course of the rest of that third period. When Carolina was able to break out with a few more goals, even after the game. Ovechkin was still pointing to the officials..

And Chris HOGAN, some of the linemen the defense, Matthew Slater, of course, being a longtime special teams, captain I mean this locker room now has a large group of core of guys that are decorated with two and three Super Bowl rings, which is really impressive. So it's not just Tom Brady. Bill Belichick though. "Shotgun Baker takes it locks. Fires. It is caught inside the answer. It's a touchdown. It's and it's a rookie record for touchdown passes by quarterback. How 'bout that Baker Mayfield into the record books? That's pretty special. Considering that you're on the roof user come in and play. A lot of guys around me that helped me do it though. So that's that's one of those things that you'd recognize individually, but there's so much more to that. This is after hours with Amy Lawrence one thing that will not change in two thousand nine hundred and Cleveland fans coming in hot as always when there is a Cleveland player or a particular Cleveland moment up for any type of award you all show up to vote in droves. And so once again, it's Cleveland's Baker Mayfield who wins the TD of the week. And he was a special moment. His twenty-seventh touchdown pass in just fourteen games. Played only thirteen starts happens in week seventeen. And though the Browns did not finish with a winning record. They still are poised to turn things completely around in two thousand nineteen. I'm actually working on my first football column of the year, and one of the well the theme is what a difference a year can make and I want to look at. Some of the differences in football from a year ago to where we are now. And of course, tops on the list is the Cleveland Browns going from Owen sixteen to seven eight and one and the fact that they are now pointed forward in a in a very positive way.
