"Because, uh, on this day in 1962 Paul Reynolds. Which one was he? Well, there's not a lot of guitar. In the There's enough. A flock of seagulls Carolyn he's a guitarist for a flock of seagulls. And it's his birthday. Today, and we played that one for you because we know you're tired of hearing Iran. I ran so far away. Oh, so back to this dog control issue. Okay, Amy, don Amy Donaldson. Yes? Can we talk about dog and cat issues, please? And she just said in that Moscow a few moments ago that she she calls you know, she lives out in West Valley and live in Taylorsville. So West Valley Animal Control is my Animal control. I guess so You call my jurisdiction You call animal control about animal control, and they have done on a number of occasions. They don't really reply or if they do they No. Honestly what happened? Like one morning I very friendly pit bull. Came and tried to play with my dogs while we were on a run. Um, I have a dog that's reactive. And he is. He's okay with other dogs. So it worked out all right, because the dog was friendly. But you know, it could have been a problem. But the bigger issue I size. There's all these little kids that wait for the bus in a few in a little while and a lot of them are afraid of dogs. Sure, I know this because I walked through my neighbor with my dogs, and I walk a couple of neighbors dogs. And they're afraid even of the friendly dogs. So I'm thinking dog running free is going to terrorize his so sure So I call and they said, we're not open. I called. The police Dispatch picks up the phone when they are not open. They're not open and they won't come if there's not a problem. So honestly, if there's not someone's life like a dog is not running in traffic. Or if there is not imminent threat of some problem, and you say this, if you say I'm I'm working. I like I lured this dog. She just followed us to my house, and I got her in my Have a little fence garden area time. My garden I had it was winter, So I put her in there. And, of course, she's barking, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciated at six AM, but you know, I said to them, these kids are going to be waiting for the bus and it's going to be a problem. Want to wait until they came at like 12 30, you know, so I don't know what time they came to work. But they couldn't get to me and the stray dog until 12 30. Meantime, you know, we put it on Hair cells lost using Facebook and everything else. We found the owner eventually, but she didn't have a tag on so I don't I mean for me, it's even more Unnerving what they've done with cats. So now if you find a stray cat, you try to take it to a shelter to animal control. Um, Unless there's a problem with it. It has a medical problem. They will not take it. What are you supposed to do with it? They consider them community cats and what rescue groups now are trying to do it like cause will come and trap these cats and get them fixed for you. We pay for, Um they're nice Veterinary who give us a discount, But still they we need to step up our animal. Well, no, you control you need to move to the East side because on our East side are animal control is actually a little out of control. I've got an animal control officer who is harassing my dog groomer. What do you okay, I would. Why not? Wait. She's new. Uh, goes right into her shop. I need to see the vaccination records of all these dogs now serious. I mean. Meanwhile, I'm being chased on the Jordan River halfway off leash dogs because, and I've been told by Murray police. We don't police that for off leash dog issues, which I I can barely take my reactive dog anywhere because people don't feel the need To put their dog on a leash. Not only do I need to see all the vaccination records of all of these dogs right now, What is that dog doing in that carrier? That's not approved that carrier that's too small that carrier Did she have a complaint lodged against turn or something? She was new. Ah, she's a new business. And so it's not a new business that the dog control officer, the animal control officer was new, So she's like, really excited to do her job. Well, I have some exciting things for her to deal with. Yeah, I mean, I'm tired of giving people lectures on being considerate. I take dogs that are in boarding that just need a break from boarding. They're trying to get adopted and I walk them on the Jordan Parkway and every single time we have an issue with somebody who has an awfully shock and I'm convinced that the same people Who do not want to wear a mask because there's a sense of entitlement could be that my public space you can do whatever I want, wherever I want, in whatever way I want just moved to the East side because this is the same animal control officers just sit in park in a parking lot and just sitting No, wait for something. You get everything better. No idea. I mean, I know idea. It doesn't make any sense. The parkways amazing. It's we're so lucky to have this really beautiful trail system that runs all the way through an urban area. And it's terrorized by jerks. Yeah, well, let their dogs poop all over and that don't say it up. I'm sure the animal control people would say, Well, you have no idea what we're dealing with. And I get that you your budget understaffed. Your budgets have been cut. I'm sure you're understaffed and I get that it's a It's a problem with the Legislature and who's distributing the money to whom They don't not just the Legislature and I'm making I am going to my I'm letting Taylorsville City Council Murray City Council in West Valley City Council. No, I am going to be coming to them with these problems because they they need to deal with especially the cat issue. If you're not going to take care of community cats, then you need to help and support rescues with some money. They if you're gonna person put this on regular ordinary people to deal with Hey, you're the There are ramifications for every problem that you turn your head on. If you don't control the cat population disease goes up. They kill birds that kill native species. Listen, I hear you, Mr Johnson. But you know there's a walmart moving in and I need to give them a tax break. So we can and also, please can you like send have your dog Rumors. Send that woman to the parkway. I will give her so much to do. I've got business for you. I've got business for that Lady East side. Animal control people. Come on down to the parkway. Meet me there. It's great so when you how much of the the manuscript that you had at the reading festival two thousand seventeen. How much of that still exists in this final form of which is steeped gold given that you brought in jamaica elements and just. There's it sounds like there was so much Growth that you've done as a writer and apply to this book from time at the festival. I always love getting this question. So they're all to notable scenes sequences from the draw off still in the final draft. Today one of them was important. One of the original draft the other came in one of the later Lee drafts when i changed it to a jamaican this bagwell say. Because his which is and it was quite western. Initially they had walnuts. Was that something that you established before kind of diving in or was it something you sort of had to learn along the way as you work through the plot and the characters. I definitely had to learn those rules along the way so always surprises me when anyone says anything kind about well building because we did say much on it. Arteta's time to run the board here on straight outta vegas the debut addition and we start of course with a difficult name to pronounce for many. It is nikola vucevic on his way from orlando to the chicago bulls right so when i look at this. I think i'm looking to bet against the magic tomorrow night because these probably the two best players on the team and you're gonna say wait a minute. Rj your account for the line. It is which not going to be accounted for is psychologically if you have a team and these are the two two of the best guys have not the two and one day. They're just gone now. I get it if you're like the seventh eighth man and you might start your happy but the rest of the team's thinking. Oh my god the whole season now without these guys. I think that's a big big negative. And i think that psychology only lasts a game or so but i would look closely against the magic tomorrow because i think the psychology is against them causes trade that we've seen a fire sale from one team like this in a long time to where they just took their three best players and said see you later and just so who would be the third one in your mind. Why evan forty. Aaron gordon and vucevic so And i think the compounding of that makes it even more psychologically a downer and then again they'll they'll professionals but initially it's a problem. Yeah vucevic on his way to chicago. We keep it in chicago but we go to the nfl. Next as we run the board here on straight outta vegas to where the chicago. There's still fuming over president trump's brilliant speech at Mount Rushmore. And the beams that came out afterwards. They were not happy about that. either. The beams had a fit to trump's face up there on on Mount Rushmore? and. Of course, we've found out so much about the The man who sculpted. Mount Rushmore. Ye was part of the clan of thank or He was A. Sculptor for the clan. I don't know if that's true or not. But that's what people throwing so that's how much they hated the president. Well, then the question was asked whose face what should be the next face. On Mount Rushmore. Puts them one on Mount Rushmore sibling the history of this country, the first black president should be front and center and add to Mount Rushmore. That's first of all. I think it's a more salable idea than the idea of taking away founding fathers. What we do have to do in this country is everybody you're doing it beautifully. Brilliant yourself of course I'm biased and I love you, but you're using your platform. You've made a choice. You may not be winning yourself a lot of fans, but you're going to say what you think is true from your experience hard minted for many years in this business and in this country right? You the say what you believe to be the truth. You speak your truth like admittedly Jesus was not perfect. He's served, but but but. To their point, you know what instead of blowing up Mount Rushmore instead of instead of cancelling Mount Rushmore, we can make it more palatable. By putting. The face of Barack Hussein Obama. If they're gonNA put someone on Mount Rushmore sitting in the history of this country, the first black president should be front and center. Here's my question. If they put his face up there. Will they paint. It black. Liberty Tan. So, you can't have them all all the founding fathers or the next four presidents that erupted right now. There is like marbly white. Use Black Onyx. How how can we black it up a little bit? Give them like a Mocha Tan or something what? I'm playing Don. Lemon they're. Going to put anybody at the put. "And usually that was the level of specificity just, you know, someone said something kind of strange of former colleague, there's a school record that feels a little bit off to sort of go investigate this further and come back to us with a supplemental report. So usually it sort of the directive was a pretty general when that was often just given by phone. Somebody in the White House counsel's office would call the eye and say, do a little bit of additional investigation on this topic. Never in my recollection would the White House have given a specific list of witnesses to talk to and usually no specific time constraint. Now, sometimes time was of the essence, and we would say, please get this back as quickly as possible. And I'm sure there were target deadlines given and maybe as aggressive as a week. I don't think that the one week timeline is is totally unprecedented, but the specificity of the limitations that sounds like we're initially imposed reporting is right by Don Mcgann. That struck me as totally inconsistent with past practice between the White House and the FBI. Well, Amy, Don Mcgann of course, was sitting there with cavern on you had a believe it was Senator Durbin who was saying to Cavanaugh in the course of it. You said, I welcome any kind of investigation. I quote you, I welcome any kind of investigation. I've got a suggestion for you right now. Turn to your left in the front row to done again, counsel to President. Donald Trump ask him to suspend this hearing and nomination process until the FBI completes us investigation of the charges made by Dr Ford and others and goes to bring the witnesses forward and provides information to this hearing. I mean to me, it's just abundantly clear a that Cavanaugh is repeatedly lying under oath that he was desperate to try to cover all of this up. You know, went full blown angry, privileged white man. It's impossible. I think to look at this and not conclude that the Republicans on the judiciary committee and the White House want to cover all of this up. The FBI investigation is meant to be like a whitewashing of this. That's what it seems like the people. They didn't want an FBI investigation. And I think it's so interesting to talk about the history of this. For example, when you look at Jeff flake, yes, he voted down party lines, eleven to ten for the confirmation of Brett Cavanaugh, but then even in the midst of that, even as he had done that, he then said, I will not do this again on the Senate floor where it matters unless there's an FBI investigation, and that's what has started all this, but it's critical to look at the grass roots, activism all along the way of this process. And I hope the history books will record this because this is the story of this historic moment, whether we're talking about the beginning of September. With the original hearings during those what four days of hearings. I think more than two hundred twenty. Overwhelmingly, women were arrested as they were protesting both in the chamber of the hearing, the original hearing where it looked like Cavanaugh was shoo-in. Shouting about the rights to determine the future of their own bodies, their reproductive sovereignty over their own bodies, or they were outside of he senator's offices getting arrested, demanding that people like Macao ski centre Makovsky of Alaska. Senator Collins vote no against Kevin. This was on the issue of course of abortion and Roe v Wade on that. We should be able to control our own bodies. And then you throw in to this mix the just incendiary horrifying testimony of Dr Blasi Ford, research psychologist from Palo Alto who was following Cavanaugh from a distance didn't really, you know, most people don't know who federal judges are. So she wasn't really following that it was when his name was getting on the shortlist and she thought it was my civic duty. Eighty to step forward. If this terrible thing happened and when the Republican senators talk about, I mean, we're talking about him as a teenager, how are they looking at his yearbook? And a lot of people sympathise with that entice cool because the allegation is he did this when he was a minor when he was seventeen years old and Dr Blasi for his saying, it's not just for me, I will tell my own experience. That's what it's about to tell her own story, the power of this, how it has changed the world has in bold and so many..
