Not exactly a name isn't it? You're like you're like you're not entitled to that because you don't have all this works to actually it's a whole world is on pause. You do guilty about it because you know there's so many people suffering obviously the medical profession epidemic of wonderful thing but from a selfish industry. Point of view is quite nice to have a little bit of time down and I think the thing about it is creative. Energy is to really let that go. Wouldn't you agree? Trina yeah like in the sense as well. Why the London Tube Map May Need a New Design

"Max. Maybe I can start with you. You're a cube map obsessive. It's very famous map. Of course the many Londoners think is a thing thing of beauty. But you're not so sure about it. Can you explain why you see some problems with the London Tube Map. The main problem is that although the networks expanded founded massively since the nineteen thirty maps exactly the same size as it was when Henry Beck. I did a sketch so having absorbed more and more stations at the same size is and the other thing. Is that the map pretty well. Dates from the year. Two Thousand and it wasn't designed with Elise overground extensions in mind and they've just added the monroe thinking about. Is this the right way to do things. So there's been quite horrible geographical nasties on it now stations which have well out of place. which now they're showing walking's change on matchy disorientating so it's crushed? Up is all twisted up. And it's geographic wrong as well which is about as bad as you can get from out. They do try and tweak it and change it and every time they do. That seems to be another round of controversy people who don't like that thing being tinkered with coming from the nineteen thirties that Mr back may they still want to keep hold it. Why is it so difficult to change it because if you change your property they'd have to and make a bigger? She's a paper on that gives you also logistical problems. It's more expensive to print distributes and on racks and they're trying to save money with his anyway if you sort of feel the thickness of the paper compared with ten years ago. It's pretty floppy least we're talking about and we're going to be looking some very physical maps maps on paper maps. The here in London were used to sing posted up in stations. But a lot of the work that you've done is looking at maps in a kind social media agent at an age of technology. Are we wrong to be thinking about their representation always as pieces of papers physical maps that even this kind of data for tube map is a revolution that needs to happen so that we can see on phones in better ways is more designed for today's technology will there's two ways of looking at this right because in many ways kind of we're being away from using maps a tool like mice people in London. We'll probably have city map. Worldnet the phone and they can just put in where exactly that going and it will just tell you get on this line then gallon this London. Gallon this boss. Whatever is I've had to look at the map or undo the understanding astounding yourself in some ways that is easier? It's easier not to have to kind of follow things through but then touchy have understanding of kind of how it works walks especially if it because that's what I'm good until the cheap breaks down and your cheap station you've never heard over and you out and you have to try and figure out. Okay where actually our amway in relation to anything so there is a sense in which it's still as important to have. A map is easily understandable. You can understand how everything into relates and whether it's on paper oil scrolling around screen I think ultimately is always going to be useful to have that map and I think even most of the APPS do have like a backup mode. Where if you're off line they'll have downloaded map? If all else fails you'll be able to go Nikola and Laura. You're joining us from the United States. This is the London. Intrude map crop up for you as a topic of interest. Yes so I on a West Coast Bureau chief at city lab where we write about urban policy and politics texted. We just closed out Three months long essay series on the power of maps in personal lives to sort of shape personal snow histories and we had a lot of submissions about our readers and writers attachments to the transit maps in their cities. Kind of how the subway maps or bus route maps helped open up a new kind of understanding of the place that they lived in and I think it as one of the few remaining kind of common. I'm in touch points that we have in twenty first century urban life. Even if you know we're no longer using paper maps to necessarily navigate as much anymore. I do think that like these. He's common paper. Maps do become a shared understanding of the places we live and I think can really kind of lock people over when changes suggested or made and one really interesting fact about the Linden map is a story that came out of some research a couple of years ago and that was a pair of economists. Messed look at what happened when a branch between two London tube stations was shut down as a result of a strike in two thousand seventeen and they studied the paths that the passengers made when they were not navigating the tube underground and solely on the basis of the maps and they actually found that passengers. I discovered that there was a much shorter route in navigating between Paddington station. In Bond Street station when they were actually traveling on the street versus is traveling from Paddington Station to station underground and that was solely because of how distorted the map was in that particular spot. And so it's really interesting story. That highlights the stark differences between reality and the kind of shared truth. I think these transit maps create a woman in encourage people to walk more of an environments. That is a problem with it on the map. Isn't it because often people look at you map. And they think I need to get on the tube guy between Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus. It looks a long way and they didn't realize that today one hundred meters apart. The distorted map isn't very good. We have a new way. Finding finding system in Las Years in London tries to encourage people to see what the walking distance is our. Is that another argument. Potentially changing the London subway map that it just really doesn't match with the passenger needs in a way I mean it is a thing. Remember having an argument with people about fifteen years ago and all of us living in London this and people who he wanted to see me we were in town and they are going to come up. We need to get the tube from necessary. Cone gone. Took me pretty about as long to argue my case that we didn't we need to do that as we could've walking it. But the lack of geographic information can be a problem and I lived in places the on really represents excellent cheap. Mumps I lived somewhere where it was sort of very vaguely could of Finsbury Park but it wasn't really if that wasn't the nearest station but the nearest station nationwide train station. That wasn't on the tube map. So there are these places that sort of exist in London but sort of fall out of existence because they're not represented on the one map of London. Everyone's aware of an eye so my now that sort of I lived in Nepal which is on the cross rail lines. So it's a place that is coming into existence. Finally after years of being on some national rail line and no one cared about. It's going to be one day across you'll ever opens on the tube map and it's interesting. That does obviously have as well as the consequences. It out by transplanting structuring better. It probably just helped the exists on the map for things like property prices and kind of just awareness of as a place. You might want to go because these places are invisible. They're represented which is kind of interesting thing about the fact that it's a a map that's not a map because it doesn't actually necessarily have to represent present anything other than the sheep

A Vet Explains Laryngeal Hemiplegia in Horses

"Chatting here on in the gate with Dr Norm Ducharme of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. I read about another reason that a Horse Airway can become obstructed. It's called Laurentian Hemiplegia. It's where cartilage in the windpipe becomes paralyzed and partially obstructs the flow of air. How common is this? This limit Israel. He needs please. Your problem and in a medical term is returning original. Rossi is quite common. The probably in the neighborhood of variable deranged a to invite percents of horses. thornburgh racehorse are affected with this disease. If you look at the draft horse breed it's probably closer to fifty percent that are affected by this disease and unlike the soft palate this original obstruction happens happens during installation so horses that problem getting air into their lungs as opposed to palate horses that problem getting the or the air out of the lungs. So what happens for Laryngeal Hemiplegia so this one the nerve becomes it comes standard. So they're tuners running on either side of the windpipe and both of these nerve for reason we don't understand Start to die back and I say back the muscle atrophy and the muscle being atrophying that prevents the normal symbol opening during elation to cure and so the problem getting air in during the lace. And and and. Both these condition the Pallet Orangeville. Please you the lack of oxygen is an acute determinant of the Horse's performance. Let's and cannon lead to injury because the horse could be exercising ended up fatigue state. Well that's the thing I mean. You are. Undoubtedly aware of of the scrutiny. The horse racing community is facing this year now. Most of the fatalities we hear about in racing are as you indicated earlier musculoskeletal still in nature but in your experience. What connection is there between horses who have suffered on track racing and training fatalities and potential respiratory Tori issues? It's actually a small numbers Cornell University received perform postmortem exam on Says is that euthanized on the track for whatever reason and we got to look at their airways as well as the muscular skeletal system and it's a very small percentage of horses They have this as an airway problem and have had an orthopedic problem. It's slow on the airway. Problem is so obvious that interferes with the performance of horses that almost all trainer the area would seek some kind of remedy for it rather than continue pushing a horse true that no oxygen. These horse can't run well at all of course so I mean in the bigger picture. What role does this research of your team play in the greater effort to increase that quine Kline safety and wellbeing well? It's a welfare issue that we need to understand problem and come up with remedies that are are more natural more physiological to allow the horses to able to have proper oxygen and and leases cardio vascular pulmonary system or able to deliver oxygen to the muscle that these horses have and so And both of these disease were. We've been looking for physiological solution to to resolve the problem. The upper for Amway feel as made a lot of advantages or advances. I should say because we can examine the upper airway of horses. That answer cise with us go so we could see during the training phase. What is really happening to the upper airway? And then once you got the diagnosis. And we've been focusing on finding the cost. We can find more physiological response whether it's between the horse with a power alad problem or the transplant on Earth to fix a horse that has a problem to his larynx. But yeah it is is a large problem. The industry and what a few of us are trying to figure known for all help program nationally that would allow proper opera prescreening of horses to identify not horses that have Fractures but before that horses that have underline bone changes. For whatever reason whether it's training related or reading related the Hor- ground related Ed or respiratory related and trying to make the proper at outpatient in changes to reposition the horses in the right access so they can compete successfully and more orderly say Dr Norm Ducharme as part of the team at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. That's been researching this breathing issue. Thank you so much for sharing the results of this study with

Trump kicks off re-election campaign at Orlando rally

"What a evening we had last night in the Amway center before I took off. On average, average, we we lost lost two two thousand thousand manufacturing manufacturing jobs jobs a month, since by an organization we've added sixteen thousand manufacturing jobs, a month that didn't happen by accident. Remember the statement from the previous administration, you need a magic one to bring back manufacturer. Well, we'll tell sleepy Joe that we found the magic wand. The sleepy guy. Magic one he did fine with me on the ninety four five. The answer guest line for a few minutes this morning. Drew mckissick, chairman of the South Carolina, Republican party, welcome in Mr Chairman, glad to have you. Good morning. How you doing her? I am wonderful after a night lack a last night. I mean what an it, citing Kreil down here in Orlando, drew, and I know that we had a lot of watch parties around South Carolina last night. Throughs, iast crowds. And that's our job now that's, that's what we have to do in South Carolina. And we got rallied troops and help the president get reelected next year. Look. It was it was a great night in view actually being down there. We were obviously up here in South Carolina. And like I said, we had a lot of watch parties around St. last night. I was actually in Greenville, the green will counted. You watch party last night, had a big crowd about half of the people in the room actually were completely new people never been to Republican party needing four, so, which which is goes to prove that the president has drawn a lot of new people into our party. So grow our party, we saw evidence of that and the elections here in two thousand eighteen here in South Carolina when we were able to actually beat Democrats by eight points on a straight ticket ballot statewide. And so just a record for us more and more excitement about the president. But also, you know, look, the accomplishments. I mean he's is he recounted their last night. They've got a great record to run on the economy's booming. We've got a record low unemployment rate over six million new jobs. We slash government regulations and he is actually now manage to get the Mexican gonna. Government to do more to defend our southern border than Democrats are willing to do forgetting, I mean, you know, so tremendous progress, and then on top of that, obviously a conservative judicial appointments incredibly important, as you know, over the long haul, and look, it's just it's a things like this or opportunities for us to continue to bring new people into our party and grow it, which helps Republicans all the way down the city and county council rations and drew. That's the encouraging part. And I'm glad to hear you say that, that there were a lot of new people there in Greenville, and I suspect S's case over and smart murderer, Cordis, and the others. And that's what I witnessed here in Orlando, drew, I got down on Monday and got out and walked around had an opportunity to talk with people who literally had pitched tents that we're gonna be sleeping out on the street so that they could be a part of this. "Shuffles Amway center is going to be lit tonight. Billy Joel me live in concert making love to his tonic again. Hit after hit after hit out of that guy. Is joining us from the news ninety six point five WDBO Washington DC bureau. Good morning Dory. Hagan my name you want to go to the concert with me tonight. I bet you do. All right. So today's twenty one days twenty first day of the government shutdown partial government shutdown, and we we had a story that that they're people, you know, taken out loans and stuff like that to try to make ends meet. And then someone else had scoffed at the idea that anybody would be taking out alone. With with something like this. But that's what payday loans are about. That's what they're for that Speedo people need to cover bills. Yeah. I mean, rent mortgages childcare payments, none of that stops because of a government shutdown, and we've talked to dozens of federal employees who've been on the hill this week who, you know, who say their they have a lot of concerns that they have student loan payments coming up and a lot of people are feeling feeling. Very stressed is they get a paycheck today with the net pay zero dollars zero zero and it's really that's brutal. And it's really two separate issues. I mean, one can have compassion for people who are not getting paid while still wanting to see the wall constructed. I mean, they're they're they're not separate issues mean they are they are separate issues. I mean, yeah. And and that's the argument that the, you know, of course, we're hearing from from Democrats. But also now some Republicans I think we're up to three Senate Republicans who publicly say, you know, there's really not a reason for. For us to be penalizing. These federal workers who worked for the forest service or National Park Service or. You know, the FDA over a fight on border security. So let's reopen those agencies and continue with the battle over border wall funding, but you heard Nancy Pelosi say that that's you know, that vote's not going to happen. In the Senate. No because Mitch McConnell has said that he will not bring anything for to a vote unless the president says he'll sign it and the president feels like agreeing to that gives Democrats too much of what they want and in no assurances for him that then you know, he may get something on the border wall. Right. And that goes back to what blue what Pelosi and Schumer had said when they met with the president of the White House this week. And is if the president asked if I open the government now, we sign these bills will we get funding for a border wall. And she said, no, right. And I think. You know, there's two realities here right now one is that it's not just federal employees who are getting a paycheck of net zero today that are hurting, you know, I talk to one congressman who represents Olympic Nash the area where Olympic national park is in Washington state, and there's a ski resort run by the park service that Olympic national park. Well, the shutdown started on the first day of ski season. Well, that stinks. But what it does is it has a ripple effect? The restaurants in that area the hotels in that area. The gas stations all those people are now affected because there's no visitors coming to a closed a closed park in a close place to ski. So there's that reality the second reality is the political and that is that Republicans feel like by standing in their corner by holding their ground on the border wall. They will win politically with their base with their voters. Democrats feel the same way that they were they won the majority in the house by saying we will not give Donald Trump money for a while. And so when you have that reality. It's really hard to see how there's a pathway forward in that. We're not going to be stuck in the shut down for a long time. All right Dory. Shammar have a great weekend. My friend dorky gonna follow this story for us throughout the day today and into the weekend seven forty three on Orlando's morning news our weekend and five day forecast. "Now right in front of the Amway center band. You're just a bumper to bumper. Crawling this morning, we have a red alert. But Ed, you say that that backup. There is is the remnants of an earlier crash. That has already cleared. Correct. Yeah. We had an earlier crash eastbound near par that had a few lanes blocked that has cleared. But as the traffic starts to back up it takes a while for that to clear out. And of course, we're getting to the peak point of your morning drive. Some more people are coming in. So the beginning, or I should say the tail end of that delay starts to clear out as that crash has cleared, but the back end continues to build so. That's what you're seeing through downtown. But we're in red alert right now because of a crash on I four westbound at orange blossom trail where you got two left lanes blocked your delays now back to the four hundred eight and I'm just going to give you an updated time here. We've got about twenty three minutes slow down with those delays from the four way to OBT, you can take John Young Parkway as an alternate. Get onto I four westbound from John Young. And then you're going to skip the bulk of those delays also gonna find slowdowns on I four westbound down a by the attractions area, actually, just after the attractions near state road. Four twenty nine on the approach to four twenty nine. Got a crash there on the right shoulder briefly had a right lane blocked. But that's why you're seeing a slowdown there. And then also slow traffic westbound from four thirty four to four thirty six that's gonna take about ten minutes. Now checking that drive on I four eastbound, here's Eric Brown off and on delays twenty-seven two four twenty nine and solid downtown Kelly to Princeton for eighteen ninety Eric Brown. "Hi, my name's Muny on. I was art the Amway organization but in. Categorized. And I'll end within Amway. It was called rose. My and. From the start. So trolling from every aspect of my life from how I spend my money. And then who I would have thought the way it was highly in hurt. Other people did not want to be part of worldwide group that you should quote, Nixon out of your life. I better not use my real name. So you can call me whatever you want. He means they whatever care. So here is having to me in two thousand two I was pregnant with my first child, and I was virtual assistant, and I had a client in town through starting a new business, and she was professional motivational speaker. So her sales pitch was bought on. She was super excited, and she talked me into being part of her Ecorse amazing opportunity. She said she couldn't even explain it or or she wouldn't and that could be only three hundred dollars, and she was going to. She was quite sure she's making twenty thousand dollars a month before seeing you it, and it was gonna be so easy. Of course. It's not a great to me. And I quickly signed on not even understanding what I was finding on to do. Her website was literally swimming in cash dot com. That was what her website was. Of course, it was just pictures of her family, and they case in places they've gone to and no other information whatsoever. Sephardi hundred number to call for more info, which didn't really even get anything. So within hours of spending my initial three hundred dollars. I was on the phone with her and her supervisor turns out that what I done was to sign up to sell herbalife the phone call. We'd had was explained to me how I could go on to become supervisor. Without even telling thing all I had to do was my five thousand dollars worth of product and into bump me up to the next level. Their sales pitches were nominal by the end of the call by seriously, couldn't wait to give them five thousand dollars. So that I could to get in at the ground level. Of course, never mind early have been in business for years. And there was no grammar of a left. Never once during the phone, call did they mentioned sales or even the product. It was all about and building my team when I joined the call when I raised objections for them that I didn't wanna recruit new friends or family. They told me that I wouldn't have to that. They would teach me how to do it through classified ads in the newspaper putting signs up mailing out booklets. So this way, I am now fifty three hundred dollars in the hole, my business the money. That meant that for the next few months. I spent my time buying classified ads in target markets in newspapers, which in my case turns out to be Sakado. I was running ads in the newspapers that were anywhere from seven hundred to nine hundred dollars a week. And then I was buying mailing lists that were similarly cost and I was mailing out. These booklets literally had pictures of people in yachts on vacation. And I was there was no other for me in it. But this time I was about seven months pregnant, and I was also trading at signs around town. I was literally settlements pregnant in climbing ladders and trying to my science finance that other people wouldn't take them down. Things works from home earn twenty thousand dollars a month. Never during any of this time all told it was about four or five months never done any of this that I saw a single herbalife product or even really learn that much about the product. I really had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. All I was supposed to be listening to. These motivational weekly daily falls telling me how to sign in people at because the more supervisors that I find the more money. I would make. After Howdy my son. I quickly realized this is not for me business and was like twenty to twenty five thousand dollars in the hole. I. Never ever ever have told my husband any of this. He has no idea. Hi, jamie. "Hi, mike. Hello, mike. You're thinking. King of doing a side business as a rep for which multilevel Amway. Okay. My question is is it a pyramid scheme and would be a good idea to start a business with them. So it's funny Amway is not an illegal paramedic. There've been people who've accused it of that over the years, and generally the people who've accused Amway of being an illegal paramount or people who have not made any money in it. And the reality is in Amway most people who get involved lose money. There are a small number who do well in it. And let me tell you the profile of who does well with okay, you have to be willing to spend a lot of time on it. You have to be the kind of person who can go up to any stranger and strike up a conversation. And you have to have that entrepreneurial kind of mindset where you're thinking of selling every chance you get. Okay. How many of those three tests? Do you meet? Well, my wife is included in this business with me, and she needs all three of them. So if she is the kind of person who's never met a stranger will devote a lot of time to it. And we'll be very aggressive and doing it. She may do very well just as she might do well in any sales activity, but in a multi level like Amway all the success flows to that very tiny percent of people who can fit that profile. There's nothing that I can see inherent about Amway that would support people saying it's just a pair amid it's a scam. It's a rip off all that. But it is true that most everybody who gets involved in a big multi level like Amway walks away with less money than they started with. Brought their rural old world Halloween costumes with them and they helped to establish even more American Halloween traditions. The it was a little bit scarier night until fairly late. We're still talking about the appearance of bogies on Halloween. Bogies or bogeymen were ghosts used by adults to frighten children into good behavior. Especially around Halloween time, they were said to be hiding under beds tapping on windows or lurking by gate. Holla, weans signature symbol, the Jacka. Lantern? Also began as a European tradition. But the prototype wasn't carved from pumpkin. Luncheon about character named Jack o' lantern and Jack was a troublemaker, but he was so bad. So Jack takes the ember, and he puts it inside a hollowed out Purnell, and he walks around and that becomes the legend Jacqueline. In one age old European practice.
