"Association, the American Stroke Association and the Ad council and we went out on a date and was the worst date I have ever been on in my entire life. It was terrible. She was a little older. I mean, I was I was 17 or 18. She was 19. Her ex boyfriend was a cop. Ah, she was a smoker like she was. She was kind of an adult. Just I was not. I was a kid. Anyway, shopping. One of my competitors says Just because something is on sale doesn't mean you have to buy it. Which is true, which is true. A lot of people get sucked into sales. Like Oh, it's on sale. I should buy this. No, you don't have to buy it. My answer to that is yes. But if you buy something, make sure it is on sale. Now. Like I said, I like to do some shopping. I'm kind of a clotheshorse. I buy a lot of my clothes from John Barr, Vados and A very famous designer. Actually, they went bankrupt in the early part of the current virus. They went bankrupt. It was owned by private equity, and they put a lot of debt on it. But They're struggling. It's it's rock and roll and music theme close. It's perfect for someone like me, but it's It's expensive stuff. I mean, it's expensive clothes. It's a great place to get addressed T shirt. And if you know what I mean, there's such a thing is addressed T shirt I'm wearing. Actually, I'm wearing a dress T shirt right now. The best stuff they have is their jackets. They have the best jackets in the world. Some of these jackets are pretty expensive. Some of these jackets are over 2000 bucks. And I am not paying 2000 bucks for a jacket. I am not So I have a strategy for this. So I'll go on the website. I'll see something that I like $2000 jacket and I wait. And two months later. It's on sale for 30% off. And then two months later, it's on sale for 60% off and then it goes even more on sale, and then I get a $2000 jacket for $500, and it's just I just have to wait. I have to wait until it goes on sale. I'm not spending $2000 on a jacket. I am always trolling the Web site for sales. The T shirts are usually 99 bucks or 129 bucks. I get them when they're 49 bucks. Yeah. Just because something is on sale doesn't mean you have to buy it. And the other thing is, is that the sale oftentimes, is an optical illusion. It's not really on sale. They have $100 shirt. You walk into a store, There's $100 shirt, and it's 50% off. $50 Well, it's not $100 shirt. It's actually a $50 shirt and you're not getting in a 50% off. You're getting it at full price. The discount is an illusion. They just say that the original price is $100 just to make it give you the illusion that you're getting in for 50% off because a lot of people go 50% off. I want to get it. A lot of people do this. They go around buying up a bunch of stuff on sale and justify it by saying it was on sale. Like it's good to be a smart shopper. It's good to get stuff on sale. But there is an alternative here in the alternative is to not spend the money. Right? So the question is Are you debt free? Are you debt free except for your mortgage? Do you have credit card debt? Do you have a car loan? Are you debt free? And are you saving 20% of your income? Are you saving 20% of your income? If both of those are true, then go ahead and buy something on sale again. I am not categorically against consumption material possessions, make people happy. If a $49 shirt makes you happy, then buy the $49 shirt But again, are you debt free Except for your mortgage? And are you saving 20% of your income? Come to think of it. Most of the stuff I buy is on sale. Everything I buy is on sale except for Apple. Apple doesn't really have sales. Apple has incredible profit margins. They don't have to have sails. They occasionally they have stuff on sale. I was buying deejay gear. A few years ago, I was buying CD players in a mixer. I shopped around and I save 600 bucks and it was worth it. I never really have cars on sale. If he find a car on sale, you're usually getting screwed. Although if you go into a car dealership at the end of the month, you might get a better price because they're trying to meet sales quotas. And if you go with the end of the year, they're trying to get rid of the previous year's model, so you might get a better price. Remember the story of J. C. Penney? Penny hire Ron Johnson. Ron Johnson was the head of marketing and Apple. And Ron Johnson took over J. C. Penney and he says, We're not having any more sales were just goingto have low prices. We're not playing these games with sales and coupons and stuff like that. We're just going to have low prices every day. And they were almost out of business in a few months. Sales are marketing tactic coupons or a marketing tactic..

"A public service announcement brought to you by the American Stroke Association and the Ad council. Now here's a message from Alcoholics Anonymous. I grew up in a normal home in a normal town. All of a sudden, everything. They're crazy. I don't talk to anybody about the way I was feeling. I was scared and I was alone. I started drinking and taking pills. I just didn't want to know what was happening in my life. You knew about it, but I thought I was too young. I found out I was wrong. If you're having a problem with your drinking, buddy, you give us a call, eh? It works. Look us up in the phone book or check your local newspapers. Welcome back to Lars Larson show. It's a pleasure to be with you. And I'm glad to take your phone calls and emails a bit later, we've been talking about the battle where US fighters managed to intercept. The bomber that was carrying the Japanese admiral is Hiroko Yamamoto, who was the architect of Pearl Harbor and who was so significant to the U. S to the Japanese military on the mission of Rex Barber, and we'll explain why his name comes up so so frequent. We? We've done that a bit. But let me ask you this colonel as they're heading home. You said Barber had some engine damage. They'd traveled 416 Miles to get to the site of the battle. They burned a certain amount of fuel in the middle of the battle. How confident were they that the amount of gas they had left in the tanks was going to get him back to their base. Well, it was always an issue. They did not fly a roundabout route home. They went straight back because they didn't have the gas too. Then you know, go back out to sea, so they had to fly. Back down the Solomon Islands. It's a It's a place called the slot. Uh and there were Japanese bases on on a lot of those islands, so it was a dangerous trip coming back. Fortunately, the Japanese were so dumbfounded. By this that they didn't really react. Uh, quick enough to follow any of these guys on get the only There was only one pilot that never never returned. His name was, uh, was Heinz And our time and he just went missing. He was damaged. His plane was damaged over Bougainville and he was coming home alone and nobody ever saw him again. He was the only one that was lost. So I think I think I did all the calculations when I when I was researching the book, and they had 781 gallons available and 736 of those or accounted for just by getting up there and getting back so that left him with, like 40 45 gallons of fuel for fighting. Which is six, maybe seven minutes, so not a lot. That was a very, very big problem for these guys. And they were all feeling it so other than the one loss, all the other planes made it back to base. And when they landed, they were pretty close to draw. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Um, Rex, Uh, Rex, especially, um, and lamp here, incidentally, was actually the first one back, which if he'd done everything he claimed to dio, he would have been the first one back. So that's kind of another nail in his coffin. They were very, very short of fuel. Let's get to that. And I told you ahead of time, Colonel. I've met now late Rex Barber, who's passed away Now I know his son. Just ID through the business. He sends me e mails from time to time. And I told you that I drive across the bridge from time to time called the Rex Barber Bridge, and it's named for the man who took out Yamamoto. But Lam fear Had political aspirations. And he wanted to be able to claim that he was the guy who took down Yamamoto. Would you mind talking a bit about that about why this was so significant tow land fear. Yeah, he, um you know, it came from a military political family. Hey, was educated at Stanford. He was a smart guy, and you know, he was a brave guy, or he wouldn't have been out there. He was nakedly ambitious, uh, regarding his post war, You know, aspirations, and he had stated on several occasions, including the Rex Barber that he wanted to be the president of the United States, and he was going to essentially do whatever it took. To build up a war record, really, or imagined to assist him in that, and, you know, I'll tell you from experience that those are the kind of guys you really, really want to stay away from..

C.'s this week that the American people should know that every targets that we strike will be a lawful targets present trump has been diligent about that he doesn't want war he's talked about this repeatedly he is a reluctant participant in this but he will never shy away ABC news correspondent Karen Travers is with us from the White House good morning Karen the morning the rhetoric seems to be ratcheting up yeah and the president just a couple hours after Mike Pompeii did the big rounds in the Sunday political talk shows where he said that the US will behave lawfully with in the system he says that we always have and always will a couple hours later the president contradicted that doubling down on his threat to target a running in sites that have significance to that country culturally the president said to reporters on Air Force One last night they're allowed to kill our people they're allowed to torture and maim our people and we're not allowed to touch their cultural side it doesn't work that way well it does because the president's threat could be a potential international war crime and a violation of the Geneva convention that you don't cook target sites that have kept cultural significance is there any feeling or or word that hearing at the White House that there is some push back against this attack that the U. S. staged well this certainly push back from Democrats first just because of a process here Democrats say that the it ministration did not properly brief Congress and give that advanced warning ahead of time and that they should have done that and they have to consult with Congress under the war powers act has bigger Nancy Pelosi says that the house will vote this week to limit the president's authority to take military action against Iran she called that strike last week that took out Qassem Soleimani quote provocative and disproportionate Iraq's parliament yesterday voted in favor of a resolution calling for US troops to leave the country where does that stand well it's non binding but certainly if this is added another dimension to the challenges of the administration has in the Middle East the president yesterday told reporters that the US will demand Iraq pay back the money that the US has invested in that country through the U. S. military any threatened economic sanctions if troops are forced to withdraw if this is not done in a friendly way between US and Iraq it will make a runny and sanctions looks somewhat tame I mean the U. S. has spent billions of dollars of course in or rock rebuilding there but also just for the US military presence the bases and outposts that are there the president has always said he wanted to bring troops out of Iraq this could be a way that he does it by saying they made us do it the president's just wrapping up but extended holiday vacation at his resort in Florida there are there are there any plans for him to address the nation on this nothing sixteen full days in Florida that seventeen if you count the ninety travel down there and today he has no public events here at the White House alright Karen thanks for your time is always say be sees Karen Travers with us from the White House Vermont senator Bernie Sanders holds a very narrow lead over former vice president Joe Biden in the latest poll for the New Hampshire democratic primary the CBS poll shows that Sanders leads Biden twenty seven percent to twenty five percent Elizabeth Warren is further back eighteen per said Pete booted yours is fourth at thirteen percent again in New Hampshire the new report shows the US states will need to tackle greenhouse gas emissions to be climate change the study released by the rocky mountain institute stated that the shrinkage of coal mining has decreased electric power sector emissions but natural gas and other fossil fuel emissions have remained the same the institute hopes to see greenhouse gas emissions reduced by eighty percent by the year twenty fifty a South Carolina police officer has become the first U. American Stroke Association, Aspirin And CNN discussed on Chris Plante

"One is drinking two or more diet beverages. A day linked to higher risk of stroke, comma, heart attacks. Now, this is yesterday just told us that even though we've been telling you for years and years to take a low dose aspirin eighty one milligram aspirin every day to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, you should stop doing that because it doesn't to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, and it may increase the risk of other things. So settled science just like the polar bear on the ice shelf and all that good stuff drinking diet beverages. A day late to higher risk of stroke or heart attacks, more bad news for diet soda lovers. CNN wrote drinking two or more of any kind of artificially sweetened drinks. A day is linked to an increased risk of clot based strokes heart. Attacks and early death in women over fifty according to a new study by the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association. They're

Drinking two or more diet beverages a day linked to high risk of stroke, heart attacks

"Show I die coke yesterday. And the reason why I had a diet coke because because I didn't want the calories Coca Cola, and I love Coca Cola. I like I could take like Coca Cola any day. I liked the songs of Coca Cola. I like the commercials of Coca Cola RC is good Pepsi's. Good. And some of the other colas don't give me a Shasta. Tell us a soda don't give me don't give me any of that. I like Coca Cola the best. But I don't want the sugar. So I will just to get a little bit of a taste of non water, drink a diet coke. But if they say two cans of sugar, free, diet drinks a day. It's going to increase your chance of heart attack or stroke by a third now, they looked at eighty thousand winning. So now, we're talking to win because, you know, people like well men always get heart attacks, you know, first of all, no men, don't always get heart attacks. Number two women are just at risk rally risk. And they say major study of eighty thousand women is one of the first times the risk of specific types of stroke in older women who drink diet drinks has been steady. I don't know if I'm considered older. Over fifty. Okay. Okay. I'm getting there though. I'm getting there in a hot second. Women who drank the fizzy drink are thirty one percent more likely to have a stroke caused by get this a blood clot because people go away. You're talking stroke, but what kind of stroke? You're talking about a schemic strokes or a hemorragic stroke. Where you bleed have a bleed to the brain. Caffeine in a drink could possibly do that. But they're actually talking which is what scares the hell out of me. Schemic strokes caused by blood clots. They say twenty nine percent more likely to develop heart disease. Sixteen percent more likely to die than women who rarely drink that why the hell is it affecting the heart and affecting the brain to that degree? So obviously, there's a similar mechanism at play with these diet drinks putting the war risk for clots. Now could be because of the insulin. The insulin induction from the very very highly. Sweet artificial sweetener artificial sweeteners are hundreds of times where Sweden real sugar. So I told you what ends up happening. This is why people gain weight on these streets. But what ends up happening is you start beating drink sweet and your brain notices because of your tongue, right? Your tongue has receptors that can tell the brain of something sweets coming or something salty coming. And so then the brain starts getting the body ready. So when something very very sweet like an artificial sweetener is coming down the pike. Your body gets ready and your pancreas gets a signal to start shooting out of insulin. This is why we get hypoglycemic with diet drinks because you end up taking a drink. There's really nothing to add there's no real nutritional value. And then you have all this insulin right going. Well, where's the sugar? And then whenever sugared finds it tries to move towards the cells. And then you end up not really feeding yourself. And so then the bodies like, whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Hold the phone. Okay. This Dalia chick is kinda stupid the leg. I know man. I told you Bob. Well, I, you know, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. So she drinks fake food. So she's gonna drink fake food. We need to slow down metabolism because she's not feeding us and we. Need to store up because I don't think she knows what's real food at what is I told you she's dove. So anyway, my body has this conversation all the time. And here, I am, you know, thinking, oh, you know, I'm going to let you know. Pretty like, what was it? It was it like Cindy Crawford us to do those diet drinks right back in the eighties or whatever. So I'm Christi Brinkley's. I'm like I'm going to look like that. When I'm in my forties. I'm drinking diet soda, and it doesn't work. But again, why would it make you clot? Well, it could be maybe the insulin. Or maybe it's just there's so many caustic things in these bubbly fizzy drinks that could be the unfortunately put you at risk now. Doctor Yasmin Mosa VAR Romani lead author of the study by the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, said many, well, meaning people especially those who are overweight or obese drink low calorie sweetened drinks calories in their diet. They say our research, another observational. Studies
